Aquarium
Nature & Parks
The Maine State Aquarium, open seasonally, offers a captivating experience for visitors to immerse themselves in the diverse marine life of the region. The aquarium features touch tanks where children can observe and interact with various aquatic species while learning about local marine ecosystems. Additionally, nearby attractions such as the Burnt Island Living Lighthouse and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens provide further opportunities to explore the maritime history and natural wonders of Maine.
We had a great time everyone was very educated and everything they were talking about. My grandson and granddaughter bonded with a girl named Emma. She answered all their questions, which were a lot. It was a wonderful morning.
Sam — Google review
A great way to see, interact with, and learn about local species! Got there right at open and it wasn't too crowded initially. The lobster talk by Ruby was really awesome and Ford the lobster was great! It may be small, but the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and very excited to share their passion for these creatures. Plus there's a bunch of fun hands-on activities, in addition to just seeing the animals. My husband even found his new favorite fish (lumpfish) during our visit. The gift shop has a modest selection that is WAY cheaper than I'd expect from an aquarium gift shop! Overall, we had an amazing visit. The Maine State Aquarium does a LOT with their limited space!
Kai W — Google review
Much smaller then expected. I’d say better for kids 0-3. Somewhat costly for what you get. Arts and crafts. Beautiful view. Good time for smaller children.
Sierra B — Google review
What a fun and informative place. The staff were all super friendly and knowledgeable. Really a nice layout and display for a small location. We spent about an hour there and really enjoyed it.
Katerina L — Google review
There was a lady outside the building requiring us to pay online on pur phone before entering the building. Cost $7.50 for seniors each . Wslked into a tiny room with a small fish tank with a dozen fisg and an even smaller tank with a few jelly fish. A very small touch tank a few star fish . Very small !!! That was it. A small turtle and a very small 12inch shark in another tank. Definitely not worth $22.00 fee to see.
Ann D — Google review
It's very small and not nearly as hands on or interactive as it used to be. The grandkids (2,4) enjoyed it! I remembered taking their mom and was disappointed. She was too. We were looking forward to the gift shop to take learning back home. It didn't exist. Thankfully there were other attractions in Boothbay that made the trip more memorable. Boothbay is beautiful.
Wendy J — Google review
Very small but makes up for it in the rarity of petting starfish, seasponges and a large horseshoe crab! As well as other marine life to see and learn about.
Noah S — Google review
We had a great time learning about sea creatures, listening to the hourly lobster talk, and petting clams and urchins at the aquarium. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable :)

Carousel Music Theater in Boothbay Harbor, Maine offers a unique experience of dinner and entertainment. The summer dinner theater features talented servers who double as performers, singing cabaret-style music from Broadway composers while guests enjoy a three-course meal. The theater's original reviews and musical numbers create an engaging atmosphere for both adults and children, making it a great family outing. With friendly staff and audience participation, the theater provides an entertaining and interactive evening for all visitors.
My theatre kids loved this experience. Our waitress was the lead in the musical. The food and drinks were good. The staff was great and each of them took care of us at different times throughout the night. It is a long evening, so be prepared. I would definitely recommend it. My kids want to go back if we ever vacation near there again.
Jim L — Google review
What a fun evening. The performers did a great job, they are also your servers. The show was interesting lively and entertaining. We all really enjoyed our meals, the strawberry shortcake was amazing.
Claire B — Google review
Didn’t go for the full meal, just dessert and the show. The strawberry shortcake was okay. The cast definitely has talent. I was picturing more of a cabaret, but they do write their own “story”. If you like community/high school theater, this would be for you.
Emily S — Google review
Love the small venue with dinner and a fabulous Broadway Show! $60 for dinner and show! I love seeing anything here!!! The cast was funny and entertaining. The manager, Paulette, was accompanying and friendly. They love their customers. This is a hidden jem and a best kept secret in Boothbay Harbor Region. The recent show is for the 70's. Nice to see 2 cast members come back for another year!
Jim H — Google review
First, the food is really good. We weren’t expecting home cooked, delicious food! The cast was friendly and the show was fun. My wife and I never heard of this place and happened to drive by it and went to the show that night. We’ll go again for sure
Bob J — Google review
The actors were also our waitstaff. The show this season included songs from across America. ie: Oklahoma, Chicago, NYNY, etc. The entire cast had good strong voices and did a great job on the vignettes between songs. I enjoyed myself.
Bill O — Google review
We came in for 39 Steps and dessert. The show was amazing the performers are the waiters, waitresses, and bar tender. We had the chocolate torte and the strawberry shortcake both were really good. The performers/ Waitstaff also sang periodically during the pre show. The show was a non typical theatrical performance with a great deal of audience participation. You sit in a row of other dinner guests and they are friendly and very talkative. It is a place that makes you feel like you are a regular from the moment you walk in. If you are looking for something to do in Boothbay this should be at the top of your list.

Seafood restaurant
Ports of Italy in Boothbay Harbor is a charming restaurant with a spacious porch, offering an authentic Italian dining experience. The menu features traditional Italian dishes, including housemade pasta and a selection of wines. Situated in downtown Boothbay Harbor, the restaurant is surrounded by other local attractions and eateries, making it a convenient spot for visitors to enjoy delicious cuisine while exploring the area.
Ports of Italy delivered the best Italian meal we’ve had in years. The pasta is homemade and absolutely exceptional. We loved the lobster in vodka sauce and the ravioli stuffed with veal, mortadella, and pork, all topped with a rich cream truffle sauce—chef’s kiss. Even the Caesar salad was outstanding. The staff was helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable, making the experience even better. While it’s not inexpensive, the quality, portions, and authentic flavors make it worth every penny. This is real Italian food, and we can’t wait to return.
Katie C — Google review
A true Italian experience nestled in the heart of Boothbay Harbor. The evening started out with a couple of cocktails at the bar, served by Kathleen. Her attention to detail and friendliness started the experience on the right foot. Ricardo was our server for dinner service and he gave us beautiful descriptions of the evenings specials and any questions we had with th menu. Service was consistent throughout the whole night, which made the food that much more enjoyable. I have now visited the Boothbay Harbor area five times in five years and each time I make Ports of Italy a stop for dinner. You will not be disappointed! The restaurant also has dedicated parking in the back for customers, which is a plus in this town of limited parking near its restaurants.
Taylor D — Google review
This was an exceptionally good meal featuring authentic Italian cuisine served to us by a native Italian waiter. The caprese salad was served in a patty shell. Bother the clams and veal were exceptionally tender. The wine list offered a few gems for those of you who enjoy that sort of thing. Highly recommend; we will definitely go back the next time we are in town.
Bob B — Google review
We had the best dinner here on one of our date nights in Maine. The service was too notch and the gnocchi is the best I’ve ever had! We will absolutely dine here again on our next trip to Maine.
Amanda L — Google review
One of the best Italian meals that I’ve ever had, including while traveling in Italy. Rollatini di melanzane, braised pork with saffron rice, and fresh mussels all were A+++. Would definitely visit again.
Alex G — Google review
Food was amazing, true Italian creative concoctions with flavors that explode on the palette from the olive infused olive oil and bread that comes with the meal to the creations on the menu - this restaurant is amazing and the service was great too
Korelle C — Google review
Great from start to finish. From the warm welcome at the host stand to the attentive service and unforgettable food—every detail stood out. It’s definitely a splurge, but worth every penny for an experience this memorable.
Brittany B — Google review
Stopped in on Tuesday, for a celebratory dinner after proposing to my partner. This was hands down the best Italian food we have had in years. The Ossobuco was divine, and the veal ravioli was heavenly. Our waitress was amazing, made great suggestions. This was a highlight of the multi day road trip we had, and if you are lucky enough to be in the area, make this a planned eating spot.

History Museums
The Boothbay Region Historical Society Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of the area. Housed in the historic former homestead of Elizabeth F. Reed, Fullerton Park, which dates back to 1847, this small but interesting museum features six rooms filled with photos, maps, artifacts and family memorabilia. Visitors can explore exhibits that cover the region's history from prehistoric times to the present day.
I was so impressed with this place. Wonderful information from Jane. Being from Wyoming, where people are friendly, Jane gave me a lasting impression of Maine. Thank you!
Cindy M — Google review
Awesome place with so much history definitely worth the stop!

Very interesting, though small museum of Boothbay history, from prehistorical peoples forward. Also got excellent help from the resident historian who guided us through the well-organized genealogical records and files. What a treasure trove.
Jerry P — Google review
The people were very nice and helpful!
Ben B — Google review
The Boothbay Region Historical Society, housed in an 1874 home on Oak Street, preserves the stories of a coastal community shaped by shipbuilding, fishing, and tourism. Its welcoming front porch and shaded yard make it feel more like visiting a neighbor than entering a museum. Inside, exhibits bring the past to life with photographs, ship models, maps, and artifacts that trace the harbor’s evolution from working waterfront to summer destination. Volunteers keep the archives accessible, with family files, newspapers, and records that make it a resource for anyone tracing local roots. It’s a quiet but essential stop in Boothbay Harbor—a place where the town’s memory is cared for and shared, connecting today’s visitors with the lives of those who came before. #BoothbayHarbor #HistoricalSociety #MaineHistory #CoastalMaine #NewEnglandHeritage

Embark on a Downeast Clambake adventure at Cabbage Island in Linekin Bay, Maine. Start your journey with a scenic tour of Boothbay Harbor aboard the Bennie Alice before arriving at the 5-1/2 acre island. The Moore family, hosts since 1956, welcome you to indulge in a succulent feast featuring Maine lobsters and clams along with traditional accompaniments.
We had an amazing day, The tour is great, the Island is perfect. The meal was good and way more than 1 person can eat. Cornhole and other lawn games ...overall a very relaxing day.
Heather P — Google review
Invited by friends who had enjoyed it previously, and did not disappoint. Left promptly, friendly crew. Quite a bit more people than I imagined on the trip, but it never felt crowded. Drinks available on a 45 min tour of the beautiful harbor, with commentary and history. Arrived at Cabbage island, felt like a hidden summer camp with amenities. Food was great for what it was. The experience and trip made it all worthwhile. As far as food goes, Blueberry cake was in fact legendary. Fish chowder was fish stew. Lobsters and other accoutrements were amazing. Even in inclement weather, it was an awesome experience, I look forward to sharing it with family and friends.

Wonderful day! Take a boat out of Boothbay harbor ME and feast on lobster with fixings and homemade blueberry cake! Make reservation early because they sell out everyday! Recommended at least 1 month in advance for reservations if you want weekend . Cash only. Worth every penny!! Many generations family owned. Only run this for a limited time in the Summer.
Tracy M — Google review
An experience like no other! The boat ride to the island is informative and lovely. When you arrive you pick the table you'd like to sit at on the Island and the lobster meal is large and delicious! It's not just a restaurant on an island it's a whole Maine coastal experience! Fun for all ages.
Emily L — Google review
As an experience, Cabbage Island was amazing. Definitely come starving! They give you two lobsters, potato, corn on the cob, clam chowder and this amazing blueberry cake desert. The food was pretty good! What added it to me was that the island had small strains, good enough for some activity in between the food and some beautiful views of the sea.
Paola L — Google review
A great experience! The boat ride out was very enjoyable, definitely recommend standing at the front of the boat in lieu of sitting, you get to see a lot more. The food and service on the island was incredible. Get yourself a table close to the cooks so you can be first in line and get a great ocean view while you chow down on the freshest lobster around.
Chad M — Google review
We had a great time there everything from the staff the boat ride and especially the food. They did not disappoint a very friendly family. My wife and I had a great time we would go again.

July 4th we boarded the Bennie Alice and learned all kinds of cool stuff from Captain Gusto on the way to Cabbage Island, a beautiful little island near Boothbay Harbor. They've been doing their huge seafood bakes for 60 years, which makes sense--- the team moves like a well oiled machine, something that comes from years of perfecting your craft. We got to explore a little bit while the team prepared their famous clam bake, which includes: clam chowder, TWO big old lobsters, steamed clams, corn on the cob, a baked potato, a hard boiled egg, and a thick slice of Blueberry Cake. They also have a chicken option if lobster isn't your thing, and a hot dog option for kids. You're also allowed to bring your own food! Dani and I packed a vegan picnic (though I absolutely did eat some of this food. You expect me to ever stay away from blueberry pastries?????)

The Boathouse Bistro Tapas Bar & Restaurant is a lively spot in downtown Boothbay Harbor that offers a delightful mix of Spanish tapas, New England seafood, and an impressive selection of wines. With its rooftop offering stunning views of the harbor, it's the perfect place to gather with friends and enjoy a convivial atmosphere. The restaurant is centrally located, making it convenient for visitors to explore nearby attractions and other dining options in the area.
Food was amazing (some of the best we have had, after living in Maine for over 40 years. This little spot was unexpectedly delicious!) Views were amazing. Only complaint was there was a handful of hornets that kept trying to get into our food during our meal. One good slap and they leave you alone for a few minutes, but quickly return. Waitress said this is a regular issue. Otherwise, a perfect spot!
Darryl G — Google review
Boathouse Bistro is one of our favorite spots whenever we’re in Boothbay Harbor. In a town full of tourist-heavy restaurants, this place stands out, and we’ve tried quite a few. Prices are fair given the location (you are in Boothbay, after all), and the quality and portions make it feel worth it. We’ve been in both summer and winter, and it’s been a great experience each time. In the colder months, the indoor tables with harbor views feel extra cozy. In the summer, their rooftop deck has one of the best views in town. Service has always been friendly and attentive, even during busy times. Our go-to is the haddock sandwich. They use these massive pieces of fish, and it’s always cooked perfectly. We’ve had it both fried and blackened — both are excellent!
Amaury S — Google review
One of the nicest spot in Boothbay harbor, offering a great view of the bay from their cozy rooftop. The staff was very nice, even letting us linger past closing. The clam chowder had a delightful texture and flavor, and the lobster bisque was good. The green salad with well-seasoned and well-done shrimps was a simple yet noice choice. However, our main disappointment was the seafood risotto, given the restaurant's reputation for risotto. Adding Parmigiano or any cheese to seafood risotto is unacceptable. Despite the rice and the seafood being otherwise well prepared, this was a major misteps. The sangria was not a smart choice as well - it contained no fresh fruits and was noticeably lacking in flavour, very watery/diluted. We also felt the pricing was quite high for the overall experience.
Ilaria — Google review
Had a small dinner (clam chowder) here at Boathouse, but wanted to try so many things. Plenty of options for all dietary restrictions, gorgeous rooftop seating with views of the Harbor, and friendly service. Great drinks, too. Would definitely go back to try the chef’s famous risotto.
Monique P — Google review
My husband had the salmon and orzo. He absolutely loved his meal. I had a vegan option which they have a lot of of those. I had the sticky tofu with regular rice, not the coconut rice. The mail was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Lisa R — Google review
One of our go to spots every summer. The atmosphere and seafood hit the spot every time! I love that they offer gluten free New England Chowder as well!
Shannon B — Google review
This restaurant has quite an ambitious menu and I was skeptical they could pull off as described. But they did! The risotto was properly cooked and the shrimp topping was delicious and well-seasoned. It was a wonderful surprise among the many other restaurants with typically similar menus. Thoroughly enjoyes!
A M — Google review
Tucked into the heart of Boothbay Harbor, the Boathouse Bistro is a three-story tapas bar and restaurant that feels both cozy and expansive at once. Its first-floor dining room offers a warm, intimate setting—especially welcoming on cooler days—while the second level opens up to views of the working harbor. The rooftop deck on the third floor gives diners an elevated perch to watch the harbor come alive with boats and sea breeze.

Nestled in the charming coastal town of Boothbay Harbor, Footbridge Brewery is a quaint small-batch brewery that prides itself on crafting a diverse selection of beers using locally sourced ingredients from Maine. The brewery offers an array of beer styles to cater to various preferences, including unique brews that pleasantly surprise visitors. As you explore the downtown area, don't miss the opportunity to walk across the renowned footbridge and visit the historic bridge house, which has served multiple purposes over the years.
As a Virginia transplant to Maine, the brisket sandwich at Footbridge Brewery/Bridge House BBQ is the first Maine BBQ that lives up to my standards. Thick slabs of delicious brisket form the backbone of a meal that doesn't rely on toppings or sauces as a flavor crutch; I look forward to coming again to try the pulled pork. My (chosen) beer flight was a mix of solid and interesting; admittedly the jalapeno and habanero pale ale (Ovens Mouth) was a bit spicy for me, but I am glad it was an option and enjoyed trying it. The rest were solid beers that I would drink again. Finally, massive props for having an incredibly clean bathroom with both feminine hygiene products and diapers in a variety of sizes. Mad respect. I look forward to coming back.

Visited on a Monday in July and not busy at all. Our teens were tired of seafood and wanted something like back home and this place helped us put. Pizza, pretzel, and BBQ. Worked out nicely! Cider and beers were a nice addition. Lots of stuff to do inside for kids and adults. Darts, the ring game, and drawers full of fun activities for everyone.
Deb C — Google review
There are many amazing restaurant choices in the area and we were *thrilled* that we chose this spot for dinner! It is located near a scenic footbridge by the water, plus has an adjacent lot for easy parking. We loved the cider flight and pesto flatbread, and had the pleasure of trying out a new special menu item in advance - the jalapeño cheddar pretzel with beer cheese and garlic parmesan aïoli. You know the food's good when all you can do is chew and nod at each other in delightful silence! Our server Maya was friendly and attentive, even considering that we arrived within the last hour and a half of closing time. It was nice to have outdoor tables so that we could dine with our dog. (the cute neighborhood brewery cat is friendly although my dog might feel differently 😂) Would love to come back again when we return to the area!

The Best Resturant in Booth Bay, Period. Y'all this place was like being wrapped in a warm hug from the moment you are greeted. Everyone likes their job and wants to create a lovely experience for you. The host who also happened to be the owner was so kind and treated us like family. She ended up chatting with us for most of our meal. The bar tender was also incredible and made sure we never wanted for food or drinks. Now the drinks! Excellent cider and my husband really enjoyed his pale ale. I don't even like most ciders but this was incredible and not overly sweet. The food...HONEYYY as a Texan I am PICKY about BBQ. Well slap me sideways because that BBQ was some of the best I have had in a long time. We ordered the burnt ends to start and they were melt in your mouth, right amount of sauce without being smothered finger licking delicious. Then we ordered the Steak Pizza and the Brisket Sandwich. I have never been so jealous of a Brisket Sandwich. Large, hunky, juicy, smoky pieces of brisket. Lawwrd! My pizza was also incredible with the right hint of garlic and cheese. Also the portions are super generous! No leaving hungry here. Also what was surprising was the prices. Where everything in Booth Bay is over priced and frankly subpar on portions (think appetizer size for $40). FootBridge Brewery didn't disappoint. They also shared they reworked their entire menu over the summer. So if you haven't been go check out the lovely new menu! Also PET FRIENDLY PATIO. 🩵
Jordan S — Google review
For us it’s a short walk to this restaurant. How lucky are we? We went for a beer and light dinner. The starter with our brew was the pretzel with sauces. How to make a pretzel interesting? Well they did it. Crispy and salty with a soft center with a grainy mustard and plenty of cheese for dipping. We both ordered flatbreads for dinner. Delicious and not too bready with lots on top. The weather was perfect for sitting outside and had a great time people watching.
James B — Google review
Lovely setting with views of the bay and the beers... Well, they are worth the journey! The brewer is not afraid to get creative and defy the odds with a durable brewing method while serving great tasting craft beers to his guests. Awesome!
Maarten V — Google review
Tldr: Amazing, must come here for the beer and BBQ! We had the burnt tips and two flights of beer. Just incredible! A must visit for booth! The BBQ was great, the beer varying in splendor, and the atmosphere comfortable.
Edward C — Google review
This place is conveniently located and offers spacious indoor and outdoor seating. They have a diverse selection of interesting beers, but they do not serve food directly. Instead, you need to order from a nearby food truck, which is a separate business. We tried a flight of beers, but none of the flavors suited our tastes. Despite this, it’s a fun spot to pass the time while waiting for your cruise to depart.

Boothbay Lobster Wharf is a charming, rustic shack that offers a variety of seafood delights. From lobster rolls and fried seafood to live lobsters available for takeout right from the dock, this spot has it all. The casual atmosphere and picturesque setting make it a must-visit for seafood lovers in Boothbay Harbor. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite from the window or taking home some fresh lobsters, this wharf provides an authentic taste of the local seafood scene.
Let me start off my saying this is a 4.5 star post but best lunch stop in the area. I got the crab meat roll and fried clam roll. The food was delicious and service was quick but portions were a little small. They made it up with super fresh seafood and amazing harbor views. Best views and fastest service in town by far. Super kid friendly and seat yourself. I just wish they gave larger food portions. If in the area, I would highly recommend for lunch. Top lunch spot for a wharf/harbor restaurant.

What a find! Great location right on a pier with all the food made right there with indoor and outdoor dining options. An on site bar that you can drink outdoor to as well. I’m just gonna cut it short and get to the point - the Colossal Lobster Roll is no joke and is worth the price. I live in Maine and know a lobster roll inside out and have had dozens on dozens from all over the state for years and j have to say - this is the absolute largest one I’ve had (and yes I’m aware of the one at Taste of Maine but it’s the equivalent of a health insurance copay 🤣) This lobster is a behemoth of a roll. At least a pound of lobster meat if not more. I counted three tails and three claws and more. Sandwich so bag I couldn’t wrap my mouth around it and had to eat it like an ear of corn taking bites out of it (after showering it with butter of course). Twice collapsed in my hands from its own weight. A fork and knife might be the safe way to take this bad boy down. The best way to describe it is like holding a giant burger with the grip style that you can’t relax knowing it’ll explode if you release. Anywho - it was great and it was the first lobster roll that about knocked me on my ass - usually I’ll buy at least three to be satisfied. After one of these I had to tag out. Give it a try.

Always delicious! Lobster fresh and sweet! Sides are nice. Fried chicken Sammy was so good I wanted another. You place your order, go take a seat and they call you when it’s ready. Can’t beat it! View is great too. Inside seats available and a nice bar.

Cool place to have the best lobster dinner! Fresh off the boat. Corn and Coleslaw were both delicious. We ate outside and then enjoyed a beautiful sunset. The staff really hustles to get this food cooked and out of the kitchen.

Wonderful place to hang out for drinks and food! They had live music while we were there which was great and being right on Boothbay harbor with the light breeze made for a perfect date night! We arrived at 5pm and had no trouble finding a parking spot or a table. By 6pm they were much busier, so get there on the earlier side. Everything is counter service. Food counter is at one spot and the bar is inside, first come first served. This means you’ll need to order from two counters and likely will stand in line twice. There was basically no wait to order food. My only complaint was the wait for the bar. There was a line of at least 8 people at the bar when we first got there and there was only one bartender working. Wait time was at least 15 minutes for our initial round of drinks. I didn’t mind waiting for our first round which I got before ordering food. But once we picked up food, I wanted a beer to go with my dinner but the line for the bar was out the door, so I didn’t bother because our food would’ve been cold and my husband would likely have been done eating by the time I got back. But this is my only complaint. Food was delicious and perfectly cooked! We got the crab roll which was stuffed and had the perfect amount of mayo so I could still taste the crab. The bun was warm and toasted. I would’ve liked to have a butter only option for the crab roll instead of mayo since my husband hates mayo, but it’s already mixed with the mayo which just meant more for me ;) We also got the fried fish dinner which was some of the best I’ve had. The fish was flaky, perfectly cooked and the batter was the perfect amount and stayed stuck to the fish while eating it. Loved their tartar sauce which used sweet relish and that was a pleasant surprise. We got the garlic mashed potatoes which used red potatoes and were wonderful. We also got the fries which were great as well and were a good portion. They also had a section for steamed seafood where you can watch them steam lobster, clams and mussels and a special section to pick up your steamed food with all the fixings like lemon and butter. Prices were very reasonable and our total cost was less than every other restaurant we’ve eaten at since moving to Maine. This is our new go to spot for dining out. Can’t wait to get back there.

My wife and I spent the day in Boothbay Harbor and made a stop at the Boothbay Lobster Wharf for lunch. This was the highlight of our day! First, I ordered the Jumbo Lobster Roll, which is 16 ounces of lobster. This roll was HUGE!! On top of that, the lobster was sweet and melted in my mouth. By far the best lobster of our trip!! The restaurant had a lobster and steamers area, sandwiches and fried food, ice cream and a bar, with plenty of seating right on the wharf! We already were talking about coming back during our next visit to the area!

Best meal we had! Casual atmosphere with great food and a beautiful view! We had lobster rolls (1 jumbo, 1 regular) that had so much fresh lobster, you couldn’t see the roll! The mussels were also tasty! Delicious!

Food was amazing. That’s what we came for. Great atmosphere, outside seating, plenty of shade. My only issue was waiting for drinks. The line was so long, definitely needed more than one bartender. Our food was ready before the drinks. So we only had one.

Barrett's Park is a charming dog-friendly park near Boothbay Harbor, offering beach access and shady trees. It's an ideal spot for launching kayaks, paddleboarding, swimming in the cool ocean water, or simply relaxing with a picnic. The park also features a fun rock that can be reached during low tide or swum to during high tide. Visitors can enjoy beautiful views and explore critters when the tide is out.
Barrett Park is beautiful! It's a good sized park, perfect for a nice walk, or to sit and look out over the ocean. There is also an area where you can walk down to a small cove. I have even seen people swim there. Very clean!

8/30/21 update. Still a nice park. Irresponsible pet owners are not cleaning up after their dogs. If you own a dog, clean up after them or Stay home ! Don't expect others to do your job. Great little pet friendly park on the coast. A few picnic tables.

Rented kayaks for awhile (no tour) with my fiancé. Hes somewhat disabled from a motorcycle accident but they were VERY thorough with their instruction for him to get into the kayak & offered a lot of assistance if he needed. The staff was tremendous. They have a small changing room & they'll hold any items you need to leave behind. All instructions were thorough, the scenery was beautiful, & overall an amazing experience!! Highly recommend going! It was $25 per person.

This place is the best! Been coming here since 2012. One of my top 2 must-dos in the area. Travis and the others are all awesome. Very knowledgeable and extremely friendly, laid-back staff. Awesome shop as well. You can use a wet bag and bring your belongings. There are public bathrooms very close by. You can even bring your dog. I recently did on a hybrid-type SUP like a sit-on-top kayak. There is no better place to paddle board or kayak than in the harbor! So much interesting stuff to look at. Good gear. Please support small and local businesses and try this out! If you have been on the fence about trying something new, just do it! You will love it.

Had such a great time. Walked in and we’re immediately greeted politely. We rented two tandem kayaks for 1/2 day and they showed us a good route to take, recommended a kayak-up lunch spot, and provided a map. Afterwards they offered to let us swim off their dock. Such a fun group of people working here. We really had a blast.

I spent about 4 hours out on various bodies of water for the wildlife tour - it was worth every penny, including the generous tip I gave to Abe for being a fantastic guide. Tidal is super professional, friendly, and knows their stuff. I would never have known that Abe has been guiding tours for four or five years - he was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and just plain adorable. Do this when you are in Maine!!

We had a great day on the water thanks to Tidal Transit! We rolled in with 8 on a Saturday, for a variety of single & tandem kayaks & SUPs. Travis was super helpful & got us out on the water quickly & well-prepared. They had a great assortment of well-maintained kayaks & SUPs & awesome tips about trips/destinations for our adventure. We headed out to Burnt Island & back in just over two hours. Awesome time!

Gardens
Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is a stunning 250-acre waterside destination featuring meticulously maintained gardens, including rose and meditation gardens, as well as natural landscapes and trails. What started as a small conservatory has blossomed into a sprawling 100+ acre garden showcasing the rich diversity of New England's flora. Founded by passionate grandparents, the gardens boast awe-inspiring landscapes crafted by top landscape architects.
This place is huge so bring a good pair of hiking or walking shoes and water. We went almost 4.5 miles and didn't walk all the trails, just heads up. The breeze on The Landing is divine after hiking. Nice clean place. Trails were well maintained and there were places to stop and rest frequently. If you needed to head back and were too tired to walk there are places to sit and wait for a trolley (upwards of 20 min wait). Employees were polite and engaged with visitors often, very patient. It is a long hike and very steep and rough terrain in places. Some areas were fairly easy to get to in a walker or wheelchair and there were scooters for rent. Some areas were not accessible to walkers, wheelchairs, or scooters. Interesting and beautiful place, would go frequently if lived closer. Would have bought more gift shop items if they had sizes larger than XXL in the prints I was interested in. Prefer baggy clothing so not really their issue.
Aurumi — Google review
We had the most amazing day exploring these gardens in July. It was a very warm day and I was definitely sticky by the end of all of the hiking. The grounds were much more expansive than I expected they would be and we easily walked a few miles that day. The flowers were gorgeous and plentiful. We loved searching for the trolls and posing for pictures with them, too. The terrain is rough, rocky for sure in places, and I highly recommend sturdy shoes. There is a trolley that comes by periodically if you need a lift back (as we did), but it's probably 15 minutes between pick ups. The quality of the food at the cafeteria was better than I had dared to hope for. Usually zoos and other similar attractions offer frozen food product. This was fresh and delicious. Their menu rotates regularly, but I greatly enjoyed my curry chicken salad and salad. And the brownie was delicious and huge! The admission fee isn't cheap, but I feel it is well worth it for the experience and great care taken of the grounds. The entrance also has a gift shop with a lot of options for souvenirs to visit on your way out. I highly, highly recommend spending a few hours here. We were here about 3/ 3.5 hours including lunch and that was perfect.

I spent a wonderful afternoon at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, and it was easily one of the most beautiful and well-maintained places I’ve visited in Maine. The gardens are vast and thoughtfully designed, with a perfect balance of natural beauty, art installations, and peaceful walking trails surrounded by flowers, trees, and water views. It took me about 2–3 hours to explore comfortably, and I felt like I could have stayed even longer just soaking in the scenery. I booked my tickets online, which came at a discounted rate — definitely worth doing ahead of time since the tours and accessible rides fill up pretty quickly. The entire space is impressively accessible, and I appreciated that wheelchairs are available free of charge for guests who need them. Parking is also free, and the staff were friendly and attentive from the moment I arrived. This place feels magical, especially with the mix of themed gardens, sculptures, and peaceful outlooks over the water. Whether you’re a plant lover, a photographer, or just looking for a serene escape, this destination delivers it all. I left feeling refreshed, inspired, and already planning a return visit.

If ever there was a truly magical place, it's here! Stunning gardens with something for everyone. So many vibrant flower beds, (one of them shaped like a butterfly if you can find it), a children's garden, a fairy village, many walking trails, a plethora of relaxing areas to sit and chill, a learning center, a cafe, and the trolls! The children's garden was full of whimsy. I FELT like a kid again wandering through it, marveling at the growing things, the quaint workshop, the pond, the book themed areas, and so much more! I walked 23,000 steps in these gardens, but if you have mobility issues or tend toward lazy, there is a free shuttle that is always on the go. I had a marvelous time hunting down the trolls, they are quite a sight to see. I had a preconceived notion of what the fairy village would be, which was nothing like what it actually was, but the interactive nature (pun intended) of it was satisfying. The cafe was nice, although I wish they had more variety of hot meals to choose from. The heirloom tomato sandwich I tried was quite good. The gift shop is fantastic! Beautiful items, many from local artists, along with a great selection of shirts and books. You can see it all in a couple hours, although I would dedicate at least 4 to really immerse yourself in it and not have to rush. It was more than worth the price of admission. A wonderfully soul nurturing experience.
Lisa W — Google review
Go for a visit- you will be glad you did! Loved seeing the trolls but there was so much more to see and enjoy. Staff were all very friendly, lunch in cafe was simple but good. Loved hiking the full loop to see all the sections. You could stay all day! Loved it!
Charlotte P — Google review
This botanical garden is routinely listed as one of the ten best in the USA. I understand why, but it could be even better. I loved all of the trails I went on and the excellent variety of plants and trees from the Northeast. There are great options for children including the interactive fairy village. The giant trolls and a huge hit and I particularly enjoyed the woodland garden and the hillside walk. If you get tired, there is a shuttle that will take you to most places in the gardens. What I found lacking was consistent clear signage for the trees and plants. This was notable in the garden of the senses. I needed more guidance above t what to touch, taste, smell, etc. There were at least 20 times we needed to look up a plant or tree on an app because we saw no sign. This was particularly challenging because the cell.coverage was limited and spotty. The cafe seems much nicer online than in person. It was a serve yourself cafeteria style and felt hectic and loud like the sort of cafe I expect in a zoo. I wanted a calmer, fancier dinning experience because I'm a tired old queen and I want my creature comforts served on glass plates. It you are charging $29 for adults admission per person, why not add a swanky restaurant too. In for a penny in for a pound.
Peterson T — Google review
We were only visiting the NE for a short road trip and I heard about the Trolls recycled art and that they were the Guardians of the seeds. The story lore and the awesome venture by the artist peaked our curiosity. This is a DO NOT MISS. It may seem weird to go to a botanical garden on vacay, but this is beautiful, amazing for kids, although this trip was just my husband and I and it was outstanding. Nice walks and hikes. Just outstanding place to visit.
Candice W — Google review
Visited a few times. Busy place in good weather. Rainy day visit was quiet and great to explore without crowds. Definitely check out the trolls built into the landscape. Take advantage of the free shuttles that drive around, sometimes you get lucky and get one to yourself and get a semi-private tour. We also did the guided tour on the electric cart and the docent was great with the kids and gave us great information. The kids really enjoyed riding on the cart too!

The Thistle Inn Restaurant is a charming dining spot located in a historic home that was once owned by a local sea captain. The restaurant offers an elegant and refined dining experience, with four cozy dining rooms perfect for special occasions. The menu features delightful dishes such as Lazy Lobster, baked haddock, and filet mignon.
We are lucky enough to dine here often through out the season. The owners are amazing, the food delicious & the staff is friendly! Tonight was a surprise birthday dinner. The owner sent out an amazing piece of chocolate cake w/ a candle, the staff sang Happy Birthday! This was above & beyond any expectation I had. I appreciate you & the staff! We will be back! Thank you

The food was excellent. We will definitely return next time we are in town. The seafood risotto was the favorite dish we had. There was also a cheaper pub menu which we ordered off for the kid, the chicken fingers with fries off of that menu were very good as well.

I almost overlooked this place and I'm SO glad I didn't! We had the Brandy Lobster, Calamari, Seared Scallops, and Steak Tips. Every single dish was perfectly cooked and seasoned beautifully. The waiter was kind and attentive, and the cozy atmosphere was perfect for a chilly, rainy day. I would absolutely come back to try some of the other dishes!

My wife and I enjoyed wonderful food here. We shared a crab cake appetizer and followed it with steak tips (pictured below). We finished the meal with a blueberry pie slice a la mode. Everything was extremely well prepared and presented. I can honestly say the steak tips were the best I have ever had. The blend of flavors with the green beans, fried shallots and mashed potatoes and demi glaze was outstanding. Highly recommended.

Our meals for four people were all quite good. The seafood chowder is over priced for it's size. The mushroom tart appetizer was excellent. The seasonal fall salad with greens, pears, pistachios, cranberries/craisins, feta was outstanding. We all loved the ambiance. Our servers were all excellent. Location very convenient to where we were staying. Scallops with potato gnocchi, spinach and bacon was very good, a little too rich on top of all the rest. Chicken and shrimp fettuccine was reported to be "good". Lobster appetizer was reported as very good. The way they serve hot tea is amazing. Good Pinot Noir. We didn't stay at the hotel. A memorable meal.

The restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel and they were spot on! The ambience of the historic building was romantic. We both had the sirloin steak which was very well cooked and flavorful. They also have a very nice wine list. But the best thing by far was the blueberry pie, it was seriously the best pie I've ever had!! 10/10 recommend!!

This review is for Thistle Restaurant, not the Inn. My wife started with a Mocktail Citrus Spritz and I had an Orange Dragon. Both were very good, mine was quite boozy and lasted me until I finished my meal. We had the Tuna Tartare for an appetizer and it was very fresh with lots of flavor. My wife had Steak Tips and said it was the best meal of our 10 day trip. I had the daily special which was fresh bay scallop scampi on angel hair pasta. It was a simple dish with seared scallops, tomatoes, butter, wine, and garlic sauce with fresh basil. I think the key ingredient was that everything was fresh, fresh scallops from the bay that is literally right outside. Service was excellent, our waitress suggested the scallops and she was right. I'm giving them 5 stars.

Drove up to see a friend play Van Morrison tonight. The doors on Smith were all locked(?), and the sign said to enter on Townsend. Walked to the Townsend door, and they were locked, and the staff wouldn't open to hear a word -- just pointed us back to Smith. Went back to the Smith doors, no one was around, no one would let us in. Never seen a venue this locked up and frosty, went home bummed.

I was there on 9/2/23 to hear Seth Glier. It's a very nice venue.I purchased two glasses of wine with tip $20.00.After 10 minutes I went back to the wine bar and a woman was there, same woman who addressed the audience before Seth went on.She may be on the Board or associated.I had seen a bowl of mix and asked her for a plastic cup to put the mix in.She handed me a napkin and said you can put it in there, then thought again, and handed me a small cup, half the size and mentioned we are not using our cups for that item.I looked at her and thought, could you be any cheaper or less customer service orientated. Then the evening started with a special guest, who one might think is involved musically,or perhaps the president, but instead he made a politically motivated speech regarding climate change because the headliner is deeply involved.Under other conditions,it may have been appropriate, but then the program started and the lyrics in most of his choices were all themed with related messages and innuendos.Seth has many talents and interests and you can read about it in his bio.The audience didn't have to hear it over and over throughout the first set.I'm a musician in six orchestras and have never been held captive by a left leaning political agenda at a concert. He claims to be versed in many genres of music which is fine, but making a bulley pulpit from the stage was uncalled for.We left after the first set as we didn't want to be exposed to more political rhetoric. Climate change is a worthy issue, buy I didn't come to attend that type of forum.I would prefer to have my entry fee refunded.Response is welcomed.10/15/23 The management/ownership doesn't have the decency to respond.Shameful.It's now been almost five months and no one from the staff has bothered to reply,in any way or format.I appeal to Cathy Sherrill,Executive Director, for having the decency to respond to a customer and to acknowledge to all of you, that they read and care about their reviews.Today it's 6/25/24 and no reply from anyone.New season is beginning and common sense would dictate,it's time to take care of business. My guess,at this point, there will be silence, just like silent movies, and you know what your happened to them. They're history.Hiding behind social media is today's definition of cowardice. The theater is going dark with the current director. For those of you reading reviews, before buying tickets, beware of the September 26th show with Seth Glier. You will probably be forced to listen to a Green New Deal leftist speech, prior to the start, and then be forced to hear Seth's political position both from him personally and in the lyrics to his songs(political diatribe). If you are embarrassed to walk out and wait until the intermission,do yourself the favor, but before you leave, ask for your money back, because management will not respond to you and bring your own small specimen cup for the mix at the bar,as they're not prepared for such an overwhelming request.Try eating it on a napkin with your other hand around a wineglass,as there are very few tables to set anything on.By all means, try to enjoy yourself. It's now May 29,2025.A new season is upon us and yes,SILENCE from THE OPERA HOUSE HIGHLY ESTEEMED STAFF.What else is new.*August 20,2025.They've invited him back.I surely hope he's changed his approach with the audience.Quite talented, but may come with an agenda, separate from his performance. If management hasn't cleared this up,you may be in for a one way, left leading lesson in how to be a politically left follower.GOOD LUCK !The newest show under consideration should be " Hiding behind social media or "Silence of the Lambs", Maine Version, starring the administrative staff of The Opera House. It's now July 3, 2025.By not speaking or responding doesn't make what you did to me, go away. SHAMEFUL!!!! It's August 23,2025.The silence is deafening for Ms.Sherrill as the longer this goes on "Sherrill's Farce" will be the curtain closer,as more inquisitive patrons will read this review and wonder WHY ?.

With options ranging from half-day trips to full-day adventures, visitors can choose to see seals, whales, puffins, or lighthouses while cruising past nearby islands. The company's experienced captains provide informative and entertaining narration throughout the journey.
The most beautiful experience of our whole trip to Maine! Everyone on the ship was so kind, welcoming, and helpful. The boat ride was long and eventful and SO worth every single penny. It was a beautiful ride with SO MANY puffins!! I love that it also benefits organizations (Audubon, Sea Bird Institute) that are doing REAL work to help the puffins and other birds :) highly highly recommend!

Lovely day out on the water with our pup! The crew was very nice and knowledgeable. We parked on Howard Street and it was a very easy walk to the dock and much cheaper than the closer lot. There is a covered area downstairs and an open one up top, though the first few rows under the roof do have shade. We saw a number of puffins, sea birds, and several whales. Our guide was fantastic at pointing things out and where to look. My one and only disappointment was that the boat did not stop to see the puffins as they did the whales so it made it harder to view them. It could be for nesting reasons though. the boat slowed but did not stop. Bring layers as it was very hot on land but the ride back was absolutely freezing. Overall, it was a great pick! I was afraid there would be no room to move but there was space so you were not on top of other people and we could easily see things off either side.

We very much enjoyed the Cap'n Fish's harbor cruise aboard the Pink Lady vessel. The weather was perfect. All the crew was knowledgeable, friendly and professional. The narrator did an excellent job. He was loud enough, clear, and easy to understand. We saw different sea birds, and seals along the trip. We were pulled in close to some of the islands for better views of the sea life and lighthouses for perfect photo opportunities. The cruise is informative on the local lobstering industry. It was educational. The boat was clean and comfortable. The 1.25 hour cruise was perfect for the time we wanted to spend.

Originally we had reserved a different cruise but there was a mechanical issue with the boat so they offered an upgrade for a longer cruise. I wasn't too sure about the change but our group loved it. The Captain was very knowledgeable and provided an interesting and informative narrative. We were lucky to see a pair of tuna competing for bait in the bay. It was highly unusual to see them so close to the shore!! It was a great evening.

The lovely lady who we purchased our tickets from was very friendly and helpful. The two young men that were part of the crew were also very nice. The Captain was knowledgeable about the area and informative. We really enjoyed our trip.
Tommy H — Google review
We had a great experience on our whale watching and puffin cruise. We saw multiple whales, a few seals and only 1 or 2 puffins. It was the last puffin cruise of the season, so it's not surprising they were less prevalent. The entire crew was great, especially Lexi, who was the naturalist for our trip. She was very informative and enthusiastic whenever a whale would surface. Once the whales surfaced, the captain did a great job positioning the boat so that we were close, but not too close to the whales. The boat was clean and even though it was full, it never felt crowded.

We went on the puffin tour. We got there around 9:35am for the 10am tour. The ride out was about to the island was about an hour trip. We then circled the island for 25+ minutes. Lots of puffin flying around. You do need a professional camera to be able to take great pictures as the puffin move fast. On board, there was a naturalist giving information about the animals we might see and then pointing out any. The captain made sure everyone got to see the animals. Some other people on our cruise got to see a seal but I was on the wrong side at that time. We sat in the front top area in front of the capatins window (very limited seating and fills up very fast) and really enjoyed our view. We did have to kneel when at the railing but you can stiĺl see perfectly without moving from your seats. If you are on the bottom front, you may get a little wet but still get great views.

I went on two tours (puffin/whale combo and the harbor cruise). Both were excellent! I was able to see a lot of wildlife on both, a lot of scenic landscapes of Maine, and the boat ride was so much fun! Just remember to bring your sunscreen because you can get pretty crispy out there on the water

The Eastwind Schooner offers a memorable sailing experience for all ages, with its beautiful and comfortable boat. The crew is friendly and inclusive, allowing guests to participate in hoisting the sails and engaging kids in various activities. The sunset cruise provides blankets for chilly evenings, while the educational aspect of the sail includes learning about sailing and local sites from the knowledgeable Captain Sean.
Amazing experience. If you really want to enjoy and absorb the scenery, I highly recommend this tour. Josh and Christina were fantastic. I went on another tour and it was so crowded, my two year old wasn’t able to see a thing. She was able to really be part of the experience which was great. My son & husband were able to help set the sails, which they really enjoyed. I can’t recommend this enough. My only regret is that we did this at the end of our trip, had I known, I would have booked with them several more times this week! You don’t want to miss it!!
Brandy B — Google review
What a beautiful and fun sailing experience! The deckhands Andy and Mary were great in working the sails all the while taking care of your cocktail requests, conversing with us and answering questions we had. The captain Pablo told us stories of the area and took us on a beautiful tour on the water during sunset. A highlight of our trip !
Kathleen S — Google review
The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the cocktails were a nice treat. Even though the weather didn’t fully cooperate for our “sunset” cruise, we still got some beautiful views of the area. Highly recommend.
Tori P — Google review
We had an amazing time on the Schnoor Eastwind. Sarah and Christina were so much fun to talk with, and they are having a great time out there on the water. They are knowledgeable about birds and stories of the land/buildings. There were four of us (including a four year old and a seven year old) and we all loved it. I would highly recommend it to anyone coming to Maine. It’s so important to get out on the water. And it is so fun to be riding on a beautifully strong boat.

We had an amazing sunset cruise with the Appledore crew. The schooner was very neat and well kept. Crew was friendly and knowledgeable. There is a nice drink menu that offers something for everyone. 10/10 would recommend to anybody.
Clay K — Google review
Awesome experience. Great crew. Beautiful sunset cruise. They take your oders for drinks and bring it to you. They had blankets which was fantastic! Great price for experience! I'm from our of town and it was fun to see Maine this way. There's also an opportunity to help raise the sails!

Phenomenal. Exceptional. Classy. We had the privilege of sailing with Captains Josh and Sarah and their mate Christina. I purchased this as a Father’s Day present for my Dad, Uncle and Husband. There aren’t enough words of praise I can give to Eastwind Schooners and their very fine employees. We will be repeat customers both in Maine and one day in Florida. Well done!
Lesley C — Google review
Such a great day sailing around the harbor. It was fantastic to relax, enjoy a beverage, and watch the captain and first mate trim the sails. Nothing better than feeling the sea breeze cooling the decks, hearing the gulls calling overhead, and watching the waves lapping the hull as we leisurely sailed past lighthouses, islands, and the occasional disinterested porpoise. A great day on the water!

Sherman's Maine Coast Book Shop in Boothbay Harbor is part of a chain of bookstores with six locations across Coastal Maine. The first store opened in Bar Harbor and has since expanded to other towns. At the Boothbay Harbor location, visitors can browse through a variety of books and stationery while also enjoying treats from Ornes Candy Store and exploring Gimbel & Sons Country Store for an assortment of items.
Wonderful and charming bookstore with all kinds of stationary items. I always make it a point to stop in here whenever I visit Boothbay Harbor. This place is a real gem for high quality memorabilia after a vist to one of my favorite towns in Maine. Don't miss stopping by for a quick visit.

A lovely place with great employees and great prices. The cashier was extremely sweet and knowledgeable about the area. She recommended us other enriching activities in the area and her welcoming demeanor is not easily forgotten!

What an awesome store!! The range of items from books for all ages to kitchen gadgets, stationery, that perfect greeting card, lobster socks and other fun gifts like little balsam pillows or bell buoy wind chimes. It’s easy to lose track of time. If you’re disabled, an employee can fetch a book, magazine or art supplies from the second floor (no elevator).

This place is amazing! Emilia at the service desk upstairs was so helpful ordering the book I wanted when it turned out it wasn’t in stock at the store. The title I was looking for reminded her of a wonderful story she shared with me while we were filling out the order form. The staff was so friendly and helpful, and the store itself was beautiful. It was clean, well-organized, and the selection of books, puzzles, games, and other novelty items was extensive! I can’t wait to come back.

This book store was the highlight of my visit to Boothbay Harbor! So much to look at, and so welcoming. I spent 2 hours there the first night, got overwhelmed and went back the next night. Emilia patiently helped me with the art department, pens, yes even cartridge pens which I love. I left with a book Drawing on the Right side of the Brain, multiple pens, paper, stickers and an adorable plush stuffed monkey! Love this store!

Balmy Days Cruises offers a variety of sightseeing tours, including the Monhegan Island Day Trip, Burnt Island Lighthouse Tour, and mackerel fishing aboard the Miss Boothbay. The Monhegan Island Day Trip allows visitors to explore the island's natural beauty and artistic inspiration. Meanwhile, the Burnt Island Lighthouse Tour provides insight into traditional lighthouse keeper life.
We had the best day traveling on the Balmy Day to Monhegan! Our captain was super informative and pointed out all the sights along the way. The staff was courteous and friendly. Thanks to everyone involved! We could not have had a more perfect day.

A wonderful experience! The boat captain and crew were kind and professional. We had a very pleasant ride to Monhegan Island and back, arriving perfectly on schedule. The captain shared interesting details about places of interest as we passed. We even saw several pods of dolphins on our ride!

We went on an amazing Mackerel fishing trip with our teens. Our pictures do not show the fun we had as I try not to post pictures with people. We started in the fog and ended up with beautiful weather. The fish were visible from the boat. Schools of them were below us and we caught one after another. Our teens had so much fun especially our daughter who doesn’t fish. My son who does fish also had a blast. There was one other larger family on board. Their kids had so much fun as well. They had younger kids, grade school. They had a blast! They caught them to bring them home to cook. The assistant took off the mackerel’s heads and their insides and placed them on ice. I think they only take like 15 people so it is definitely a smaller boat. Only two crew and no bathrooms.
Deb C — Google review
I had a really enjoyable time on Balmy day cruise. we traveled to Mohegan Island Maine. The captain gave some details about the surrounding area as we traveled to our destination. There are clean bathrooms on board and some basic coffee, Tea, soda etc. Pack your drink for the island and make sure you are wearing layered clothing
Angela O — Google review
Very disappointed with the company's customer service - or lack thereof. I grew up in the area and wanted to take my family to my old home and our favorite island. In my excitement, I booked the hotel and boat trip for our family of 5 (at 5:30am) for a trip 3 weeks from now. After securing these two reservations, I tried to book the kennel for our dogs. Unfortunately, there was absolutely no availability at any kennel we called. Just 2 hours later (at 8am) I cancelled our hotel (no problem) and asked Balmy Days to refund our tickets given the circumstance. They flat out refused to even consider my situation and only offered to take a cruise later in the season. I suppose that would have been easy if we lived in the area. So we're now out $265 or need to make an 8 hour road trip. Customer service is atrocious! Hindsight being 20/20. Note to others...IIf you have a party of 5 or more, make multiple reservations under the 5 passenger limit. Reservations under 5 people can be cancelled within 48 hours of the trip.
Sean T — Google review
We had a great boat ride out to Mohegan Island. The Captain and his crew were all very nice and professional.
Lewis F — Google review
Took 2 trips with this company: Monhegan Island - good value, great views on the island (can hike down to the shore or up to cliffs), friendly staff on the boat. Scenic Harbor Tour (Squirrel Island) - great value, really good way to get a quick overview of the area. Captain talked through most of the tour explaining what we were seeing and telling us about the area. We did this our first day in Boothbay and it gave us a good overview. This trip isn't too long so if you are prone to seasickness this would be a good one to take - also doesn't go far out from shore so it doesn't get too wavy.

Excellent folks, very friendly, professional and always on time for everything! From the ferry/tour, to the sailing and lobster cruises, it is hands down the best run operation I've ever seen. Hope to see you all in a couple of years and take a fishing tour too!

Historical landmark
The Boothbay Harbor Footbridge is an impressive 1,000-foot historic wooden walkway that was built in 1901. It offers beautiful views of the harbor and connects one side of the harbor to the other. Visitors can enjoy morning reflections of boats and houses on the water, as well as a romantic ambiance with string lights during sunset. The footbridge has been recently rebuilt and upgraded, making it a must-see attraction in Boothbay Harbor.
Visited here on morning of October 10, 2024 during a day trip to Boothbay Harbor. Admission is free and it serves as a nice shortcut between the east and west banks of the quaint little town of Boothbay Harbor. Perfect spot for photo opportunities and selfies. Appeared to be wheelchair accessible. Highly recommended if you are doing a walkabout tour of the town. Lots of restaurants located on both sides of the bridge within 3-5 minutes walk.

So beautiful here! Highly recommend walking on the bridge for sunrise, and at night to see the lights!

Trust me, add this town to your coastal itinerary. The footbridge is a short walk across the harbor, offering a unique view of the fishing boats. Plan to shop and eat lunch here too. There's a huge variety of shops and restaurants. This was my favorite stop on the eastern shore. Park in one of the public lots - street parking is limited.

Cap off your trip with a stop at Downeast Ice Cream Factory, a beloved local spot that has been dishing out top-quality ice cream for over four decades. Despite the bustling crowds, the central location and extensive selection of 70-plus flavors make it a must-visit destination. Visitors rave about the generous portions and homemade quality of the ice cream, with popular flavors like black raspberry with chocolate sprinkles and blue moon drawing high praise.
This place is great! Lots of different flavors and options of what you want. Great tasting ice cream and the workers are super nice. Ice cream also came out fast with lots of customers to handle!

Nice enough to keep the doors open close to 9 when they close! Very nice gentleman behind the counter that helped us with gluten free suggestions as well as his favorite flavor combos! The portion sizes are huge for the price!!
Shannon B — Google review
While walking around the lovely town shopping area, we wandered into this ice cream shop. We were the only ones in here yet it took nearly 3-4 minutes for the man in the back to finally help us. He was on his phone via an AirPod and was talking to someone in his native language. While the ice cream was good, both waffle cones had an ice cream ball hanging off the edge… as a huge ice cream shop person, this doesn’t make sense. Had we walked outside into the warmth, this would have fallen to the ground. ( didn’t get a photo of the second cone, as he was too busy trying to save the falling ball). Over all maybe it was a bad day for the employee or maybe he wasn’t trained on how to actually scoop and make a cone… Over all good ice cream, bad customer service and scooping….
Denai C — Google review
Nestled right on the pier in Boothbay Harbor, the Downeast Ice Cream Factory has been scooping up smiles since 1979. Its classic facade—bright white clapboards, a colorful cone mural, and hand-painted sign—welcomes visitors into one of Maine’s most beloved ice cream spots. Inside, more than 65 homemade flavors await on rotating menus: think Maine Blueberry, Peanut Butter Fantasy, Whoopie Pie, and sugar-free or vegan sorbet options. Everything is super-premium—rich, creamy, and made in small batches. Coolers are stocked with soft serve, frozen yogurt, frappes, and more so every craving is covered. Whether you’re grabbing a cone before strolling the docks or settling into the parlor for a treat with a view, this is one of those coastal Maine rituals. Visiting the Ice Cream Factory feels like tasting the sweetness of summer, any time you stop by. #DowneastIceCream #BoothbayHarbor #MaineMade #IceCreamLovers #CoastalMaine

Located at the Boothbay Harbor Oceanside Golf Resort, Coastal Prime is a seasonal waterfront restaurant offering seafood and steaks. The restaurant provides stylish accommodations and a deck for guests to enjoy. With indoor and heated outdoor seating, the establishment offers menus featuring locally-sourced ingredients. Diners can savor stunning harbor views from every seat in the dining room while enjoying a variety of options such as chilled shellfish platters, including oysters, shrimp cocktail, and lobster.
I can’t say enough good things! Emre (the sweetest man! got us multiple propane tanks for the heaters and got us a dessert!) the host/ manager, Samantha our server and Alyssa, another server who helped get our drinks started, were all top notch, professional and kind! They seated us outside with two warmers, blankets and continued to check on us throughout our meal to make sure we were ok! The Lobster was fresh and delicious, the lobster ravioli was perfect and the clam chowder was to die for. The bread muffins were also the best thing I’ve ever had (not kidding) Shoutout to the bar team as well my kiwi cocktail was perfect for the occasion! Will be back next time we are in town!

Very good food and service and a great location make Coastal Prime a great choice. Their menu includes seafood and steak as well as other options. The new owners are very friendly.

I stopped in after a nice kayak paddle around the harbor. I ordered a blueberry mojito (yes this is Maine!) and it was so good. What wasn't that good was the lobster bisque, it was supposed to come with grilled garlic bread. That came much later, as I was finishing the cup. Granted I was there after the lunch crowd, but still please get the order right.

We had dinner at Coastal Prime during our visit in Boothbay Harbor. It’s a beautiful restaurant located in the Boothbay Harbor Oceanside Inn. They have outdoor seating right on the harbor with heaters for the cooler nights. The view is beautiful although it was foggy the night we were there. Our server was very friendly and the food was fantastic. I had the lobster ravioli, which may have been the best meal I had in our entire time in Maine. My husband had the Paella which he said was fantastic.
Carol W — Google review
The waterfront location provides breathtaking views, especially as the sun sets over the harbor. Every dish was a testament to fresh, local ingredients prepared with incredible skill, offering a delightful culinary journey. Combined with attentive service and a wonderful ambiance, it's an unforgettable dining destination that I wholeheartedly recommend for anyone seeking a premium experience in Boothbay Harbor.
Batuhan A — Google review
Unfortunately the new owners have turned this beautiful restaurant into a below average place to dine. The Seared Tuna last night was inedible. The scallop dish with a teaspoon of potato and half of a carrot was disappointing. The tablecloths are nonexistent leaving placemats on the chipped tables. No gas heaters, no gas lanterns on the deck. ( according to them the heaters remain broken - since June?) All the ambience has been lost Premier location that the Lafayette group will turn into nothing more than the Tugboat. So sad to see. Having dined there for the last 8 years- we will never go back. The management team and the kitchen should have stayed at the Harborside 1901. They are not skilled or equipped to handle this type of restaurant. Don’t bother to spend your money at this restaurant- so very disappointing.
Jerilynn B — Google review
My husband and I went here for our anniversary and were not disappointed. I was surprised my husband suggested this place where he doesn’t like seafood but there was plenty on the menu for him to choose. I started with a blueberry salad and got the haddock with little neck clams for my main meal. The sauce was to die for! I would put that on everything. Hubby got the chicken and pasta in vodka sauce and cleaned his plate. The atmosphere was very romantic and they seated us near a window so we could look out at the harbor. My only complaint is I didn’t save enough room for dessert, the skillet cookie sounded amazing.

Burnt Island Light is an 1800s lighthouse located on a 5-acre island with coastal and wooded hiking trails. Visitors can rent kayaks from Tidal Transit Kayak Company to paddle out to the historic lighthouse, which offers living history tours. Alternatively, they can take a cruise on Balmy Days Cruises Novelty to Squirrel Island. The lighthouse keeper and family provide insight into the island's heritage, flora, fauna, and fisheries.
We kayaked to this island from Boothbay Harbor and it was one of the best experiences from our trip. While we weren’t able to tour the lighthouse and surrounding buildings (only open on certain days), we walked around the lighthouse and surrounding field. There were a public restroom and picnic tables as well.

Beautiful island and views! We kayaked to the lighthouse through a kayak rental location in Boothbay Harbor. It took about 45 minutes to get out there and the same on the way back. We got there to see the grounds open to the public. However, the keepers buildings are ONLY open on Saturdays and Sundays for two hours each day. It would’ve been nice to know beforehand since the website didn’t disclose that info. Either way, we did enjoy our time on the island.

Shannon's Unshelled Express BBH is a charming little shack that emerged from a simple question about where to find a quick lobster roll in Boothbay Harbor. This delightful spot has become a favorite among locals and visitors alike, known for its succulent lobster rolls served on perfectly grilled, buttered buns accompanied by rich, garlicky drawn butter. While the menu is straightforward, the quality of the fresh lobster shines through in every bite.
The lobster grill cheese was out of this world! For $20 we expected less lobster but were overjoyed with the quality and quantity of lobster plus the bread is crispy and delicious-grilled to perfection. The owner was super friendly-fast service and GF options. A must try 🦞🦞🦞🦞🦞

Reasonably priced lobster roll right in downtown so ease of access. Fresh, made right there and fast. Seating available in the little park right next to it!

Great food and friendly people! Crab grilled cheese was great! I wish the cheese was melted more. But overall, still delicious!
Sam G — Google review
We brought some out-of-town guests to Shannon's Express for lobster rolls this week. The lobster was excellent - meat fresh and delicious, rolls nicely grilled, and warm, drawn butter on the side. The reason for the 4 star review is related to pricing. A huge outdoor sign and chalkboard advertised a $22 lobster roll. When we paid, staff pointed out an interior sign where the price was overwritten to $24. Although we felt this price was still fair and probably a management oversight, it still made us feel like they were more concerned with their profits than treating customers with respect.
Margaret — Google review
This review has nothing to do with their food - because we weren't able to get any since they closed early. Stated hours said closing at 4pm, and I even called earlier in the day to verify. But when we arrived at 3:19 (after a long drive to get there) the employee told me they were closed...and apparently had been closed for a while, since she was walking out the door and locking up at that point. We were going there based on great reviews. I wish I could base this review on food and service; but that's impossible. But I didn't feel I could not address this closing early issue.
Chuck D — Google review
This is a small corner shop with a simple menu. I bought a lobster roll for $24. If was a fair price and had a good amount of straight fresh lobster, not frozen, on a warm buttered roll with a side of hot butter. Frankly this was better than the worthless $35 dollar one I bought from McSeagals 1/2 a block away that was full of shells, same portions, and a long wait behind tourists. I would definitely come back here and avoid the hassle of dealing with the other options in the area if you want a sinple grab and go experience. It was a nice warm fall day and there are benches right outside by the public docks you can sit at. Thank you!

Super friendly, definitely get the blueberry coleslaw! Amazing haddock sandwich! Loved this place
Colette N — Google review
This location does 1 thing, and it does it very well. The lobster roll was tasty, perfect proportions and beautiful. Just as important to note was the wonderful service. Owner Shannon and her mom were behind the counter and were the sweetest people, so welcoming. In fact my own mom was with me and was not planning to get anything, but Shannon overheard her talking about having different preferences and enthusiastically said they could totally do that, even offering extra butter and some other ideas to zhuzh it up. This place was such a wonderful, tasty, and quick find!

Incredible selection of balsamic and olive oils — sampling encouraged. Sandwiches and great freshly baked breads. A gem of a shop. Very friendly and knowledgeable people.

Amazing selection of interesting items and freshly baked goods--something sweet, bread, a hand pie for lunch... Always helpful staff. Perfect place to grab a food-based or hostess gift. Can level up your cooking with the large selection of flavored olive oils, too.
Tonia B — Google review
My husband and I happened upon this truly extraordinary shop a few years ago while visiting Boothbay Harbor. I cannot begin to say how amazing this shop is. Their selection of delicious and unique products is unsurpassed. I could easily spend a day just sampling their incredible oils and vinegars, which make excellent gifts BTW. This trip I bought a case of different vinegars for myself and family. We also treated ourselves to the most delicious scones. I am already looking forward to our next visit. They have beautiful cookware and bake ware. They have a very nice selection of wines, cheeses and tea towels. There is so much high praise for all of their incredible and unique products that it is very difficult to find anything that could match or surpass them...but I have not yet mentioned the wonderfully welcoming and warmly friendly staff. You walk in and are greeted with sincer smiles and a level of customer service which is unmatched. If you visit Boothbay Harbor, and I believe everyone should, do not miss this extraordinary shop. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

Eventide Specialties is absolutely superb! Kim is a creative genius who puts love, attention and expertise into everything she makes or sells! Want a high-end bottle of wine? Eventide! Want homemade chocolates? Eventide! Want a special gift for the cook in your life? Eventide! The list goes on and on! I could write a dissertation on her shop. She has everything from beautiful charcuterie boards ingredients and rated Italian pasta sauces and pastas to olive oils and vingegars. But don't forget the cheese case!! I dreeeeam about the cheese case :) The most unique cheeses from all over the world that you cannot find but at her place. You arrive as a stranger, leave as a friend and a bonus... a freshly baked baguette, fig jam, soppressata and brillat-savarin cheese!! I send all of my friends, family and guests to her and they always return again and again. Trust me - go to Eventide, you will not be disappointed. :)

Schooner Lazy Jack Cruises offers a delightful sailing experience in Maine, with the Schooner Eastwind and the Lazy Jack being popular choices. The pier is easy to find, and check-in is smooth before embarking on a sailing adventure. Passengers can enjoy the fresh breeze and coastline views during the 2-hour trip, with opportunities to participate in raising the sails. The cruise provides a relaxing way to explore Boothbay area, passing by historic lighthouses and picturesque island scenery.
A beautiful afternoon adventure with my wonderful fiance. The Captain and Crew were very hospitable and friendly. I would definitely recommend this trip for anyone who enjoys the ocean.

An awesome experience! Did not feel like a tourist trap excursion where the captain is preaching over a microphone. Sarah and Bryan were incredibly friendly and personable. They genuinely seemed to love what they do and were a blast to be around.

This boat trip was amazing. The captain, Gus, was incredibly skilled and very welcoming for just having stepped off a plane just two hours prior. He had a great sense of humor and made the trip a lot of fun. It was a gentle cruise, nice winds, beautiful views. 10 out of 10, we will be back.
David Z — Google review
During our road trip from Boston to Arcadia National Park we made a break at Boothbay and spontaneous decided to go on a sailing trip with Lazy Jack - one of the best decisions on our tour! The time during the sailing (2hr trip) went by so quickly. Passengers are even allowed to help to raise the rails. We thoroughly enjoyed the fresh breeze and views of the coastline. For us travelling is not only about landscapes and sights; it's about the people you meet on the way. Jessi and Capt. Inky are just wonderful, open-minded people, who made this short sailing trip a memorable one. Many thanks :)
C. S — Google review
We spent a lovely late afternoon on the Lazy Jack. Captain Inky and 1st mate John did a fantastic job sailing this beautiful sailboat and we felt safe in their capable hands. Inky has a good sense of humor and is a good story teller on this laid back good vibe tour. It did not feel touristy and was a great way to take in the scenes of beautiful mid coast Maine. You can byob and snacks.

What a fantastic way to relax and tour the Boothbay area. Family and friends took this great cruise with Captain Bob and First Mate Michael (Captain Joe and his beloved dog Dexter minded the ticket booth). While my friends in VT were cooking in the heat I was out sailing in Maine with a real nice breeze (Take a light jacket along). We got to see many historic light houses and great island scenery. With the amount of Lobster boats and other cruise boats all rushing around - none of them seemed as comfortable as we were. We learned quite a bit of history and even were blessed with an appearance from a Harbor Seal. Myself and everyone aboard plan on doing this again on our next visit- Highly Recommended ! Don't hesitate to relax for two hours - it's what life is all about.

The Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library is located in a historic building constructed in the Greek Revival architecture style in 1842. It serves as both the public library for Boothbay Harbor and a memorial to local soldiers who served in World War I. The library hosts various events and activities for all ages throughout the year, including summer reading programs for kids.
I had never gone here until I had a toddler and I will tell you it is LIFE SAVING! Story time with Ms Jen is every Friday at 10:30-11 with games and activities after. They have summer Reading challenges for all ages and the events are so cool!! Great job!!!

Great library with excellent librarians. They plan community activities for all ages, but my kids in particular like the events and summer reading. Librarians go to a lot of trouble to encourage a love of reading. All the volunteers and librarians are friendly. I love that I can check out a park pass, museum pass, or garden pass with my library card too. This is a huge savings! I see that you can also rent things like a telescope, but I haven’t done that just yet. They’ve got a regular chess night on Wednesdays and there are some very good players as well as beginners. The library is part of what makes this a great small town.

My other sister and I thought it would be fun for her to go to the store and be handed our gift as we live in Florida and Idaho. Faye was so kind she went out of her way giving me suggestions and sending me pictures of items that I could choose from. Eileen too was so helpful and she wrapped the gift for my sister to pick up! I will be in Boothbay Harbor next August for my nephew’s wedding and I look forward to visiting and shopping at Sweet Bay Shop! Thank you Faye and Eileen!

Canoe & kayak rental service
Maine Kayak Boothbay Harbor Shop is a popular spot that has replaced Tidal Transit, offering a similar experience. Visitors can enjoy various activities such as tandem kayak rides and shopping for shirts. The shop provides different pricing, time frame minimums, and equipment compared to its predecessor. Additionally, the shop welcomes boat builders to showcase their creations at the Belfast Harbor Fest in August 2024.
Highly recommend, will be using their services again! The rental process was very easy. The delivery driver brought it right to our cabin on a remote island with a single lane wooden bridge. He gave great instructions and was very friendly! Pickup was just as simple and easy as delivery. Zero complaints, if you’re in Boothbay Maine Kayak is the way to go!

We joined a group tour to the lighthouse on Burnt Island. Great gear and great guides. The trip was about 4 hours start to finish and included harbor paddling and open water paddling. This is a great trip for novice and intermediate paddlers.

My parents and I loved going on the Lighthouse Tour to Burnt Island with Al! Al knew so much about the area, from history of the nearby fort to osprey hunting patterns to edible flora, and it was so fun to hear his thoughts on every area we passed through. He also was very knowledgeable and helpful about the actual kayaking process — my dad had a broken toe that limited his mobility getting in and out of the kayaks, so it was especially nice to feel like we were in competent hands. One of the best guided tours I've ever been on; we'll definitely be back for a different one next time we're in the area!

We loved using Maine Kayak! It was so easy and simple. We rented and went out on our own. Sean was amazing! Super friendly and helpful. Gave us a map and told us the best places to go. Got us on the water quickly and safely. We will 100% go back!!

Phenomenal Labor Day weekend tour to Burnt Island Lighthouse! Al did a great job navigating, identifying wildlife sightings and describing some of the history of the area. Great for both novices and advanced kayakers. Highly recommended!

While I was surprised to see that Maine Kayak replaced Tidal Transit, I am happy that a similar business is in its place. I have been going to Tidal Transit since 2012 and I don’t know what I would do if this wasn’t here! I recently took my dog for a tandem kayak ride. We had a great time. I went back again with my sister and brother-in-law to buy some shirts. We talked to Nick for a bit who worked at Tidal Transit as well. The pricing, time frame minimums, and equipment are somewhat different but we will see what evolves. I wish I would have had time to get a paddle in the harbor is as well. Hopefully some day this season!

Went on a Saturday in July and it wasn’t all that busy. My kids had so much fun riding the train and the buildings with all of the historical exhibits were really interesting!

A great, affordable railway heritage museum in Boothbay. Train rides on the narrow gauge, coal-fired steam locomotive hauled train run every hour around the short loop. They do two complete laps (roughly 15-20min ride) each hour and you can hop off at the Thorndike station and check out the really cool model train layout! (huge hit for the kids). The antique auto museum was also very cool and worth the visit in its self. The staff is super friendly and always willing to answer any questions. Highly recommended for anyone (young and old alike) looking for a great time and a nice relaxing train ride.

As an avid Maine hiker I can’t say enough about these beautiful coastal trails! The Boothbay Region Land Trust (BRLT) maintains about 20 of these preserves located in Boothbay, Southport, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb, and includes preserves on three small islands. These trails are well marked, easy to follow, and provide free public parking. Very few of these trails provide restrooms. Trail navigation by foot ranges from easy to moderate. I love the blue green colors of the ocean water in this region; viewed from many of these trails. Scenery throughout these trails offer a wide variety of landscape including evergreen and deciduous forests, fields of wildflowers, marshes, beaches, rocky hills and cliffs, gorges, historical structures, etc. BRLT trails are teeming with wildlife including deer, waterfowl, seals. Overnight camping is not permitted. Tons of fishing opportunities accessible from many trails. Most of the footbridges and boardwalks are in excellent condition. Trailhead kiosks offer maps. Trail views of the Sheepscot, Ovens Mouth, and Damariscotta Rivers are gorgeous.

One of the cool things about Oak Point Farm is that when the pond freezes over in the early winter, its a great place to go skating. And there are several other things about the Oak Point Farm preserve that deserve attention. The walking paths are mild and easy. It also includes various dining options such as Coastal Prime restaurant and Grille 19. Additionally, the owner has purchased nearby properties to accommodate employees for the growing roster of restaurants associated with the club.
One of the greatest golf experiences of my life. I can’t find one flaw at this club. I have played hundreds of courses and this is the best on all accounts. Bucket list golf course. Hats off to Paul and his team.

We booked a 3 night stay and play package in January of '25 for June of '25. When we arrived we were treated like we were members for years! Every staff member we encountered at BHCC was excellent! Course was in excellent shape, and not a flat lie on any green. A real test for the first time playing the course. Our accomodations were superb as well! Nothing lacking in any way! We are now planning a return visit.
Kelly F — Google review
So fine. Was a guest of family here. Played 5 days (in a row). The course is gorgeous, conditions perfect. Staff is all pro- friendly, helpful, good manners (eye contact, handshake). Very classy all around. Walked the course carrying my bag. It’s a great walk, a couple of humps (to 11 and 13 tees) but very comfortable. Chilled water bottles at the restroom/lightning shelters every 4 or 5 holes.

First class experience from the moment you drive in the gate. The amenities are second to none. Then you hit the course, only two words are immaculate and challenging! Hands down worth the trip and the best golf experience in Maine.

Boothbay Country Club is on another level. The course is beautiful — super well-maintained with amazing views on every hole. Staff was professional and welcoming, and the whole place just has a classy, relaxed vibe. The clubhouse and restaurant were also top notch. One of the best golf experiences I’ve had in Maine. Probably one of the most beautiful country clubs in the entire Northeast. The flowers, greens, the fairways are on Absolutely beautiful. The service is actually impeccable, and the food is always delicious. The staff are always accommodating. They hosted my daughter‘s rehearsal dinner last year at the Coastal Prime restaurant location (which is under the same ownership as the country club) , and it was absolutely amazing. We rented out the entire bar, deck and restaurant area, and it could’ve been any classier! I highly highly recommend this country club , if you’re thinking of joining or just thinking of coming “staying and playing” !! It’s ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 STAR

Dolphin Mini Golf is a popular and well-maintained mini-golf course that offers a traditional yet enjoyable experience for families. In addition to its attractive gardens, pools, and streams, the venue features an ice cream hut, arcade, and a covered bridge housing a fascinating shell museum. The course itself is simple but charming with coastal touches and is mostly shaded. Visitors can also enjoy delicious ice cream on-site.
This is such a cute spot with lovely owners! Nancy was so nice to chat with before our game of mini golf. The course is simple, but well-maintained with cute coastal touches. It’s mostly in the shade too, which was nice on a hot day! And the shell museum is so cool! We enjoyed some ice cream after the game as well. It’s cash only, with an ATM on site if needed. Would definitely recommend!

I’ve been to many mini golf courses and this one was very fun. A little older of a course but has way better obstacles than newer fancier courses. 100% would come back and play again.

I loved visiting this mini golf course when we used to visit Maine for summer vacation. I miss the Boothbay and Southport regions very much. I'm not able to travel now. So very sorry to hear about Lee's passing 🙏

This is our favorite mini golf course in Maine. It’s shaded and has a fun theme. We love the shell bridge and ice cream located on the property.
Lacy K — Google review
Nice little putt putt, actually with some shade on a hot day, with a nice ice cream stand right next door.
Robert H — Google review
Fun, simple, and inexpensive, but still challenging. Plus second game is half price if you demand an immediate rematch with your no-good-cheatin'-varmint family and friends, lol. Plus ice cream and other goodies on the premises.
Patrick M — Google review
This is a cute golf course - 3 stars because they shouldn't advertise open on weekdays if when you get there sign says "by chance"! So guessing whenever they feel like it??

Nestled in the charming Boothbay Harbor, Ed Brown’s Wharfside Gallery is a must-visit destination for art lovers. This delightful gallery showcases an array of stunning watercolor prints and original artworks, making it a treasure trove for those seeking unique pieces. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, thanks to Ed's friendly demeanor; he truly enjoys connecting with visitors. Many patrons have found themselves captivated by his breathtaking artwork, often leaving with multiple pieces that spark joy and conversation long after their visit.
You shouldn't leave Boothbay Harbor without a visit to Ed Brown's Wharfside Gallery!! I cant imagine not stopping back next time I am in the area! We stumbled into Ed's gallery and he immediately made us feel like we had known him forever. Not only is Ed a fantastic artist but he enjoys people! He has a wonderful sense of humor and two very comfy shop chairs. Everyone entering is greeted with a smile and if you are a local he will introduce you to everyone in the store. But regardless of Ed's gregarious personality, his Maine prints and paintings are beautifully detailed, colorful and capture the essence of Maine. He is a very talented artist! And Ed will tell you all about each piece of art ..giving the art some meaning to both of you. In my experience, most artists are not personable like Ed. On Sat. we perused the artwork and talked to Ed. Then we went back on Sunday and literally waited hoping he would open which he eventually did. We bought one painting and 2 prints. That day, we met his charming wife Susan..an artist as well ..and clearly the more focused one of the pair. You will see Eds work sold throughout Maine but here in Boothbay Harbor is where you can find him..in the Ed Brown Wharfside Gallery across from Fishermans Wharf. It was a lovely end to our mother daughter my 60th bday trip. Thank you Ed! Hope to see you and Susan again next year!

Made my first-ever visit to the Ed Brown Wharfside Gallery in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, today and I can't say how very awesome his work is. I purchased a print of a lighthouse that he had painted and it caught my eye immediately from the street. Being that I wanted to capture not only a New England lighthouse, but also the landscape of Boothbay and the surrounding area, it was the perfect print. Not only is it a beautiful piece, but his wife was truly awesome to talk too. Great place. Definitely a great spot to visit.

We've purchased beautiful, custom art from Ed Brown and his wife the past few years we've visited Boothbay Harbor and consider it a highlight of each trip. Ed is so thoughtful and generous! We look forward to going back next time we're in the area.

Ed's art is beautiful and I'm so excited to take some home with me! The prints are perfect and come matted. Ed was extremely friendly and we felt so welcomed in the store. If I ever find my way back to Boothbay Harbor, I will be stopping in again.

My boyfriend and I loved stopping into to Ed’s gallery this weekend! We NEVER buy art but wound up walking out with 4 prints and debating who gets to take them home first since we don’t live together 😂 his artwork is simply breathtaking. Ed was so friendly and we really appreciated talking with him. The next morning we were still talking about the art. Oh and he gave us great suggestions on where to check out in the area that we were able to visit which were also breathtaking!! Thank you Ed!
Jade D — Google review
Every time we come to Boothbay Harbor we visit Ed Brown's Wharfside Gallery to pick up a print or two. There's so many beautiful choices, and you can frame them easily at home with standard sized frames. Ed is great to work with, and he even doodled on the mat which made the gift even more special. Be sure to check him out next time you're in town.

We went to Ed’s after seeing some of the watercolors she had around her house. My wife and I went there and bought a few for ourselves. They are amazing! We found one that is a boat with the name of my wife’s skincare company “Sandpiper” (sandpiper.biz) It was perfect to hang in her office. Ed was great to chat with which made it fun to shop there with him and his wife. Highly recommend going in!

Ed’s shop was a delight! His images are simply perfect! I stopped in because I love nautical art and almost every piece that was for sale was just that! If you are looking for that special piece to add to your collection, make sure you stop in! Especially if you are a baseball fan! I look forward to stopping in on my next trip to Boothbay! Such a beautiful preserve with changing scenery. Wetland, woodland trail and old apple orchard plus lots of interesting history. You can just do the perimeter of the pond or make it a big hike and connect with Appalachee preserve.

This preserve has woods, wetlands including a large lake and fields with birds and wildflowers. The southern tip has a dam where ice was harvested in the 1800s. You can make the hike longer by using the Indian Trail to access Appalachee Preserve - all really beautiful.
Robin J — Google review
Very nice for a small area. Mix of smooth, open trails (old road, meadow) and typically rocky, rooty tight maine woods trails (ridge, indian, apalachee). Dog friendly. Big plus to have off road option that's local.

Now a Boothbay Harbor staple, the space has grown into a gorgeous gallery with photography, pastels and other art along with beautifully curated pieces of local charm, like cozy blankets, french lavender pillows, framed sea glass art and many other lovely and Maine inspired collections. It's a comfortable place to walk in, shop and meet the owners, Sue and Catherine who are just terrific and friendly. You might love their work the most! I know I do. Open until Christmas!

This is by far the best gallery in Maine!! The owners are wonderful people and very welcoming. They have beautiful artwork and many unique gifts. My wife and I have purchased several items here and love visiting this shop whenever we are in Boothbay Harbor. Stop in and look around even if you don’t leave with a new piece of art they have plenty of amazing items at all price points such as tableware, candles, and many other unique items.

The Black River Gallery is one of the cutest shops in Boothbay Harbor. The moment we stepped in, we were greeted by one of the owners and she took the time to explain who the artists were that painted the artwork in the shop. They had so many unique gifts to choose from. I purchased a beautiful octopus travel cup and the owner wrapped it up so pretty as if I were giving it as a gift. We will definitely visit again!

Great little gallery, beautiful items and artwork. The aesthetics are wonderful and comforting as you enter to meet two fabulous owners. Don't walk on by, make sure you stop by to get a piece of Maine! I got a large lobster blanket that has been perfect for winter. Make this gallery a stop on your trip to the harbor.

My husband and I have been frequenting the Boothbay area for over 10 years. The Black River Gallery is by far our favorite art gallery. The gallery itself is very warm and inviting as are the owners. They have more than just art pieces in there, as well--they carry unique coastal tableware (napkin rings, plates/sets), candles, lotions, cozy quality blankets, etc. We have bought several items from the wonderful ladies at Black River Gallery over the years and will continue to. We highly recommend this shop--it is well worth the visit!

Black River Gallery is one of the nicest, quaintest galleries I have ever been in! The ladies who own it are quite lovely and always happy to help pick the perfect gift when I'm in need! I have been lucky enough to get one of Catherine's beautiful pieces of art for Valentine's Day this year! I have bought several bracelets and also the most amazing lamp with a lobster shade on it! If you are lucky enough to get to Boothbay Harbor, this place is a must!

Little Critters Playroom is an exceptional playgroup that offers excellent communication and provides regular updates throughout the day, including pictures, meals, diaper changes, potty training progress, incidents, and naps. The children enjoy frequent outings to various places such as the library, Boothbay Botanical Gardens, playgrounds, and museums. Their curriculum not only teaches colors, letters, shapes, and counting but also emphasizes important values like sharing, kindness, listening skills, and hygiene.
Our son Max has attended Little Critters since they opened and we couldn't be happier! Crystal and her staff are so caring and attentive to our sons needs. They schedule of daily activities are both educational and entertaining for all age groups. He gets so excited to go to "school" and doesn't want to leave! If you are looking for a daycare that is spotless, caring and genuine, this is it!
Matt H — Google review
I wish I could give a million stars! Communication is amazing. We get updates throughout the day (pictures, meals, diaper changes, potty successes and failures, incidents, naps....etc). We love that the kids go on outings all the time. The library, Boothbay Botanical Gardens, playgrounds, museums. Not only does the curriculum teach colors, letters, shapes, counting, but also sharing, kindness, listening, hygiene. As a parent, not only is my child thriving, but I feel like Little Critters has been an amazing resource for me to be a better parent. Making the transition from diapers to potty training so smooth. Providing tips and guidance on issues we struggle with a home. Thrilled that in a small community to have my child in such a robust daycare.
Nicole C — Google review
I can’t say enough how much I love this daycare. My daughter has been here since Crystal opened her doors. Crystal and her team are dedicated to the safety and learning of each child. Each day (based on the kids age group) the kids go over colors and letters and sings positive songs. My daughter will be two in a couple weeks and she knows her colors, shapes, letters, numbers and is currently working on English, Spanish and sign language. Thank you little critters for being such a positive addition to our daughters life.
Joey H — Google review
The Brightwheel app Little Critters uses is great. When I'm missing my little man a quick video or picture posted by their staff always puts a smile on my face. I also love the daily field trips and experiences they offer my son, such as the nature preserves, library, botanical gardens and the variety local playgrounds. Thank you Crystal King
Gregory J — Google review
I trust them with my child. He has learned so much since he started going. His social skills have grown exponentially. He loves going to "school" everyday and absolutely adores the staff. Their dedication to getting the children outside and learning in nature can not be applauded enough. In a time where good child care is so hard to find, they are a true shining example of what other care centers should strive to be. They are an asset to our comminity and if you need child care services, look no further than Little Critters.
