Portland Head Light is a historic lighthouse that has been in operation since 1791 and now serves as a navigation museum. It is located on the rocky and picturesque coastline within Ft. Williams Park. Visitors can enjoy scenic views of the surrounding area and explore the lighthouse's rich history. Additionally, nearby attractions such as Two Lights State Park offer further opportunities for exploration and enjoyment.
We really enjoyed visiting Portland Head Light, even though it was quite busy when we went. The lighthouse is absolutely stunning — one of the most photographed in the U.S. — and it’s easy to see why. The view over the rocky coastline is just breathtaking. The walking paths around Fort Williams Park are great for exploring and give you plenty of chances to enjoy the landscape and ocean views. There are picnic areas, a small museum in the keeper’s house, and even a couple of food trucks nearby for a quick bite. It’s a place you can easily spend a few hours just walking, taking photos, and soaking in the scenery. Definitely worth the visit if you’re in the Portland area!

The view is just breathtaking. Such a picture perfect place. We got some amazing pictures. Lots of place around for the kids to play. Paid parking We visited first week of October. Make sure to go around sunset and you get amazing photos when the light hits the water.

I visited the Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth on a beautiful Friday evening, and it truly lived up to its reputation as one of Maine’s most breathtaking landmarks. The panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean with waves crashing against the rugged cliffs was absolutely stunning, a perfect spot for photos, quiet reflection, or simply taking in the coastal beauty. Parking was very reasonable at $6 for 2 hours, and there was plenty of space when I arrived. The park closes sharply at 5 PM, so it’s best to plan your visit earlier in the afternoon if you want enough time to explore and enjoy the scenery. Despite being a popular attraction, it wasn’t crowded during my visit, which made it even more peaceful. The historical significance of this lighthouse adds so much character. Built in 1791, it’s the oldest lighthouse in Maine, and you can feel that sense of heritage as you walk around the surrounding Fort Williams Park. The nearby museum gives a quick but insightful peek into its past, from guiding early ships to serving as a symbol of maritime resilience. Overall, Portland Head Light is a must-visit serene, scenic, and rich with history. I walked away feeling both relaxed and inspired, watching the sunset cast a golden glow across the lighthouse and the sea.

Such a wonderful lighthouse with BEAUTIFUL views. There is a small museum with admission only being a couple dollars per person and it is very worth it. So much history there, it’s fascinating. The trails were maintained and plenty of parking. Several food and coffee trucks scattered throughout the grounds as well.
Achlee B — Google review
Beautiful views! Parking is plenty, but the light house area is quite a walk from parking - BUT this little spot in the world is so beautiful!! There are food trucks in several areas in this park - we tried the blueberry pie ice cream and the black raspberry ice cream truck near the light house and it was AMAZING! There is a small fee for parking, but the parking meters are easily accessible. There are porta-potties near the parking area.

Iconic, Essential, and Breathtaking Portland Head Light is not just a lighthouse; it is the definitive, iconic experience you must have when visiting Portland. As the "first lighthouse" in the area, its historical significance is palpable, but the real magic is in the sheer, breathtaking beauty of the location. We spent a wonderful afternoon here exploring the grounds, taking photographs, and simply soaking in the atmosphere. The park offers plenty of space to walk around and find the perfect vantage point. If you want to capture the true spirit of coastal Maine and tick off an essential Portland activity, this is the place. It's truly a must-do landmark that lives up to all the hype.

This is a lovely light House outside of Portland in Cape Elizabeth. If you have a car you can drive there and pay for parking. There is a public bus that will take you half way but you will have to walk 45 minutes the rest of the way. Your best bet would be Uber or Lyft. Its not much going ($15) but double the price ($41) returning. It takes about 15 minutes. Reception is very bad there also so it'll take a while for a signal. You may want to reserve an Uber back. It's worth it for the views. There is also a cliff walk and Fort Williams. The Lighthouse museum is $2 located in the Lighthouse keeper's house. They also have a short tour conducted by a park ranger at 11:00am. They have three food trucks located in the park. It should take about 4-5 hours.

We really enjoyed the Portland Head Light. We did go after it was closed but it was still really nice. Even after hours there were a lot of visitors. Honestly, The only constructive criticism I could give would be to extend the hours even another hour to accommodate more people because as I said, there were still a great many coming and going. I had to take pictures looking up, or to avoid the crowds because there were so many people enjoying it. Other than the people, it was very well kept up. Very enjoyable!

Fort Williams Park, situated in Cape Elizabeth just off Route 77, is a town-operated state park offering free access with some paid parking. The park features stunning views of the rocky shoreline and the iconic Portland Head Light. Visitors can explore the remnants of the late-19th-century artillery base, including WWII bunkers and gun emplacements. The park also provides ample picnic areas and panoramic vistas.
My friends and I were so excited to see some Maine things and because of the weather it was pretty impossible to happen. We actually ended up calling a lift and her driver took us to this place as a surprise and we were so excited that we were able to see this place. It was so beautiful and definitely a good place to go to if you want to see some real Maine nature. I would definitely say check this place. It'll take lots of pictures. You can do family photos here. You can do visiting photos here. There's so much to do in this big part. It is huge! They did also have a ice cream place but it was closed probably because it was like 40° and then they also had a lobster roll place. But we didn't go check that out. But at least there is some spots there that you can have snacks and lunch.

This was my first time visiting this park and Portland Head Light! Had a great time walking around and photographing the lighthouse through the smoke and fog on a beautiful 80° morning. Also enjoyed a great Caprese Sandwich and a Maine Blueberry Soda from the Bite Into Maine Food Cart! I was very okay with the $6 parking fee for the minimum 2 hours. Downtown parking was $20 more for the same two hours or $25 for all day parking where available.
Robert G — Google review
Wonderful spot to spend some time, go for a walk, admire the ocean views, and of course visit Portland Head Light. The park is pretty big and I wish we had time to explore more of it, especially the coastal cliff walk and the fort itself. Portland Head Light is a must-see though. Minus one star for forcing everyone out of the park before sunset was over, it was literally one of the most incredible sunsets we've seen and the ranger kicked everyone out before we could really enjoy it and see how the light was hitting the lighthouse. Be careful because the ranger let people linger a little bit but then he really started confronting people.
Christopher R — Google review
We came to this park specifically to see the lighthouse, but we parked in a lot near an old mansion and Fort, and walked around. The views were beautiful and it was a nice walk. We then drove up to the parking lot, close to the lighthouse and enjoyed walking around and getting as many different angles of pictures as we could. You do have to pay for parking, but it is not pricey. This is definitely a must visit if you are in the Portland area.

Very well maintained park in Cape Elizabeth, ME with a beautiful rocky coastline and an iconic Maine lighthouse. The views are outstanding. The city park is fairly large, beautifully landscaped and maintained by the town of Cape Elizabeth. Be prepared to walk up and down hills (wear good walking shoes). The park gets very crowded on weekends and parking can be hard to find. There is a fee for parking that you need to pay at a kiosk. The park is dog friendly so bring fido! Be sure to bring water for your pup in the hot weather, and for yourself. Toilets consist of porta potties (ick) but at least they are there!
Eve Z — Google review
Gorgeous, breathtaking, stunning, amazing…..no word in the English language can describe the views! Very dog friendly as well. We went off season but even for our reactive dog, there was plenty of space to pull off and keep everyone safe.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon in mid-June 2025. Finding parking was a little rough. There were a number of extra spots on grass and in the Fort William Parade Grounds field with sun and no shade. But if you wanted a decent spot closer to water or on more compact surface it was difficult to find. We did find a great spot up on hill by the public bathroom (porta johns). It was a great spot because there is a pavilion right up top that's great for picnicking. We started by visiting the Portland Head Light. We just walked down straight across the field. There is actually a great photo spot right before the steps as you walk down. We noticed a number of people stopped here to take a photo. Because you're so high up, there are no other people in your shot. The actual light house was nice. There is a small museum underneath it but there was a cost to go in. $2/ adult and $1/child. The sign specifically says NO TOWER TOURS, NO FOOD OR DRINK, NO RESTROOMS. We decided on the time that we had here that it wasn't worth it to pay to go in. There is also a small giftshop in an adjacent building. It was about the size of a large shed or small garage. It was also very crowded in and outside of there near the light house. As you walk further away there is less and less people which was nice. We decided to do the Cliff Walk towards the North Viewpoint because we wanted to also explore the abandoned bunker and Goddard Mansion. There are multiple stops heading north on the cliff walk that you can turn around and get a great photo of the headlight. Only issue we had was that it was mid-day and the sun lighting was harsh on the photos. Best to come earlier in the morning and later in the afternoon/evening. We hoped to also explore the Fort Williams Mine Casement but from up above trying to hike down, there was a ton of erosion and we were not sure if we went down, we could get back up. We knew there was possibly another entrance below but to get there from the rocks would've taken a significant portion of our limited time at the park. So we went as far as we could safely and decided to turn around. There were a couple of small signs that pointed out the structure. If you weren't specifically looking for it, you'd easily miss it. We arrived at the Abandoned Fort William Bunker with maybe 2 other groups there. We did climb up on the right side and explored all the way around. The kids really enjoyed it and you can get some cool pictures on top of the bunker. The kids also did the dark tunnel underneath. They said it was very dark and mostly trash and some graffiti in there. We explored here for maybe 20 mins. Lastly we hiked to the Goddard Mansion. The lighting was perfect through the trees. We entered from the back side coming from the Abandoned Fort Williams Bunker. There are trails back here and it looked so cool with the light. We took a number of photos and most people didn't really care it looked like and hiked on the paved asphalt trail to the other side. The mansion interior is fenced off but it was still really cool. I think we timed it just right for photos here. Also there weren't very many people interested in it. Looks like most wanted to see the bunker and then headed back. Overall this was a great afternoon we spent at Fort Williams Park. There were many other things here that we wanted to explore and hike but we only had about 2 hrs. If we were in Portland again we would totally put this on the top of our list to return. However we came in mid-June. I would be a little scared of the crowds later in the summer like July.

An iconic Maine site and a must see when passing through Portland, ME. Portland Head light situated on the rocky Maine coast is stunning. Additionally, the park features open space, picnic areas and walking trails along the coast. The one downside of the visit was the large crowd and significant traffic. We went on a beautiful Saturday in October and so did many others. We had to slowly cruise the parking lots for 20 minutes before a parking spot opened up. The visit was worth this minor inconvenience, but if possible you should try to visit during less crowded times.

Nature & Parks
Two Lights State Park, located in Cape Elizabeth, spans 41 acres of rocky headlands and offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. The park is home to twin lighthouses that have inspired famous artworks. Visitors can enjoy shoreline trails for biking, strolling, or hiking while taking in the picturesque ocean views. Picnicking with loved ones across the hills is a popular activity here. Nearby Crescent Beach State Park provides opportunities for swimming, boating, and fishing along its mile-long beach.
Beautiful spot with a park and stunning ocean views. The rocky shoreline at the intersection adds a unique charm, and you’ll often see people taking a dip. It’s a perfect place to relax — whether you’re up for a picnic, a swim, or just a peaceful walk by the water. Highly recommend for a laid-back day out.

We had our annual State of Maine Staff Day here. The parking lot is a decent size, they have bathrooms right next to it and a nice size playground as well. We walked up a little incline to a shelter with a fairly large grassy area. It was really nice and completely surrounded by trees so other people coming in couldn’t really see us. It helped that the day was beautiful and we had clear skies with a strong breeze. The shelter had plenty of outlets and lighting. The grassy area was relaxing to sit out on. They have a bunch of picnic areas out asking the ocean. There’s no beach here with water access which is kind of a bummer as we love to get in after our activities, but the views were breathtaking. We climbed the little hill by the parking lot and you can see forever. This was a really nice place overall and we may be coming back at some point.
Brigitte G — Google review
This state park was a once in a lifetime experience for our family while on vacation from VA! My three boys were in heaven climbing the rocks, exploring tidal pools, and even catching a glimpse of a seal in the water! It was so peaceful and beautiful. Even on an overcast day with some fog, it was spectacular. There are several picnic tables and sitting areas to just enjoy the view. There is a playground and bathroom facilities. If you are looking for an amazing Maine coastline location for an engagement event or family photos (or even senior photos), this is it! Cost for non-Maine residents was $7 per person. Less for Maine residents. (***This is NOT the location to see the two lighthouses that Two-Lights road leads to. For that, continue to the left on the road instead of entering the park and visit the Lobster Shack down the road.)
Christopher M — Google review
Free, but limited parking. Cool plants and rocks. People were collecting seashells on the sandy beach. View of 2 nearby lighthouses. Well rated seafood restaurant with great view.
Patricia H — Google review
A beautiful little park on the Maine coastline with easy hiking paths that loop around and throughout the area, weaving you through lightly wooded areas and along the rocky coast. Plenty of places to sit and enjoy the sounds of the waves crashing against the rock formations, which we took advantage of! It’s humbling and calming to really sit and just enjoy the power and beauty of the ocean in a spot like this.
Julian L — Google review
Beautiful veiws with rocky shore. Tide pools are neat to explore at low tide. Love bringing our dog here to walk along the paths. The park is very well maintained. They have shelters to rent for large gatherings or free first come, first serve picnic table areas, most with charcoal BBQ stands. The picnic areas are well spread out with different settings. Some in sun, some in shade. Some have space for fun and games.
Sarah — Google review
Great view of the Atlantic. Some history behind the site can be read on a notice board across from the parking lot. Plenty of parking, but it is pay to enter. Several short walking trails, and several picnic sites with tables.

$6 after labor day still. Lots of trails and ocean view and plenty of picnic no lighthouse. I have been here many years ago. This time has my lunch on the bench and took a short walk.

Crescent Beach State Park in Cape Elizabeth, Maine is a picturesque oceanside park featuring a mile-long crescent-shaped beach. It's known for its fine sand, ideal for sunbathing and leisurely walks along the shore. The park offers various amenities such as picnic areas, grills, a snack bar, and a children's playground making it perfect for families and friends to enjoy a day out.
There was plenty of parking, and access to the beach was easy. We went in the middle of a sunny Saturday, so it was quite packed, but that's to be expected. We had a great time, and we also enjoyed the picnic in the shade to get out of the sun for a bit. There's also a nice little half mile trail where you can take a nature walk

Loved our beach walk! A visually interesting beach as there are trees and rocky outcroppings that break the ocean views. It’s really quite nice and the beach is very walkable.

Absolutely beautiful spot through the woods , under the bridge, past some beach pines and onto the beach ..nice 56⁰ fall day, beach was empty and the atmosphere was perfect for a walk and some vitamin sea!! Saw some beautiful shells 🐚 most had sealife still in them but cool to see. And the houses along the beach are pretty interesting too. I definitely wouldn't be unhappy with that view. Will visit again soon.
Ashley M — Google review
This is a great State Park! I love the paths and all the little cubbies to have private space to relax in. This ocean beach is a bit more protected than others, and tends to be warmer due to being a cove vs open ocean.
Laura R — Google review
Beautiful beach, nice for sitting in the sun, taking a stroll, or a quick dip. We loved the L.L. Bean barrow box and the wash facilities were nice with showers. Wonderful state park and worth the fee to enter. It wasn’t too crowded in the morning time on a week day, with a big parking lot.
Brittany G — Google review
Another epically beautiful day at the beach! Plenty of space to sit and low tide is perfect for shell and small rock scavaging (leaving them there, of course!)

One of my favorite beaches to play at in the state of maine. Some seaweed on the south shore, but the kids enjoyed running around in it searching for hermit crabs and for jellyfish, we found a couple that were the size of a dessert plate!

Beautiful beach. Kids laughing and playing. People walking along the shore collecting shells and getting exercise. Swimming in the refreshing water was my favorite activity! Yes some seaweed along the shoreline and in the water but that’s to be expected. No jellyfish when we were there in August. Busy beach this time of year but always space for new arrivals.

The Portland Museum of Art, designed by I.M. Pei, is a renowned institution featuring an extensive collection of over 18,000 artworks dating from the 18th century to the present day. The museum boasts specific collections dedicated to American and European art, including paintings by iconic artists such as Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth, and Edward Hopper. Visitors can also explore contemporary art exhibitions showcasing works by celebrated artists like Alex Katz and Maine-based artist Aaron T Stephan.
Love this museum. Absolutely gorgeous collection of art pieces spread throughout several indoor galleries. Easy to navigate. Staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. There’s a nearby parking garage about 10 minutes walking distance from this museum. We arrived when museum opened at 10:00 and went through entire museum in about 1.5 to 2 hours. Highly recommend this gem! This museum is very clean and well-maintained. There are public restrooms here as well as a store and cafe. Prices are reasonable; we paid $20 per adult.

A nice place to spend a morning or afternoon in the city. Super cool exhibits along with a historic home. The building itself is quite stunning as well! Could easily spend 1-2 hours here. They have discounts for students, youth, and seniors!

I really enjoyed the Portland Museum of Art. It’s a manageable size, which makes it perfect for a casual visit without getting museum fatigue. The first floor has some real gems, including an impressive Whistler and a few stunning works by Sargent. There are also a few Monets that kind of sneak up on you with how peaceful and luminous they are. The whole space feels welcoming, thoughtfully arranged, and not too crowded. It’s a great little cultural break if you’re spending time in Portland.

This museum is in the heart of beautiful downtown Portland Maine. Great adventures short walk through the city to get there. The staff is just wonderful and very informative. Fabulous works of art. 1 of My favorite was the marble statue of our 18th president Ulysses S Grant. It's a must see for all art lovers. I'm looking forward to going back.
Melissa C — Google review
A classic modern build US art museum, architecturally pleasant and well thought out. Cafe and shop. Not cheap to enter. Art is mainly contemporary or modern. None of it great but little is poor. Some I would call folk art. Much of it is interesting. All labelling is achingly woke, and certainly not objective, as befits Portland's status. Beware of large quantities of street sleepers in the area throughout the day. The locals just pretend they are not there since it conflicts with their perception of the place as a liberal heaven.
Mike S — Google review
The real deal- I had a rainy afternoon before a flight, and finally decided to check this museum out, I had passed by several times before. It's surprisingly well-curated, small enough if you wanted to linger over every display in the place you could, but also something you could enjoy in an hour without feeling like you skipped too much. The surprise for me was that museums in smaller cities can be hit or miss, but this one is easily on par with big city collections (just on a small scale). There's public spaces to linger, a variety of art including some loaned masterworks, fun gallery designs that separate the people moving through so it doesn't feel crowded. Regional artists and themes are also well represented. The museum was founded in the late 1800s, so it's not a newcomer- adding to the pedigree is an affiliated art school, and for us visitors, that also means a cool cafe culture in the immediate area- be sure to get your caffeine fix in the area.
Omar S — Google review
We visited on a late Saturday afternoon in mid-June 2025. We arrived with only about 2 hrs before the museum closed. Parking was a bit tricky but we found street parking about a block away. We were prepared to use our NARM (North American Reciprocal Museum) Membership discount which included 2 free adults and kids under 21 are free. BUT It was the Pride Portland Open House. Free Admission All Day 10-6PM. There had a bunch of decorations inside and outside. They had free candies and other merch too. It was cool and very rainbow. When you walk in there was a security guard and a info table to the left. The museum gift shop was just further back on the left. The gift shop was a fairly large size and had some really cool items for sale. The layout was a little confusing but I've been to way more complicated art museums. This one was actually a little bigger than I thought. We started on the main floor we entered in and went all the way to the back of the museum. There were a number of themed rooms back here. I did get scolded by a staff member about taking photos in a section that didn't allow photos. To be fair the no photography signs were TINY and a little symbol on the info plaques for those pieces. I did complain that no one would see that. They told me it was because those pieces were on loan to the museum and with specific instructions that they are not to be photographed as it would decrease their value. Sounds dumb to me but I'm not the owner. There is a large outdoor sculpture area but you have to enter it from the outside of the museum. The front desk lady said we could walk outside afterwards to visit it but that came to bite us in the butt because with 15 mins before closing we decided to head outside to see it and the gate was locked. We went back inside and the lady said oh, the staff must've locked it up early. Sorry... big eye roll... Anyways we went upstairs and there were 3 floors up and a basement I well I think. The other floors were great with art of all type. There were a ton of very colorful pieces which I thought was very fitting for pride month. There are some awesome sculptures on the top floor included what the kids dubbed "seal torpedo". Also the diamond stag like Harry Potter's Patronus. We did take the elevator up and then the stairs back down which were hilarious as there were tons of birds and seagulls hanging from the ceiling and there was a giant window covered in bird poop. I don't know if that was on purpose or not. All the way in the basement there is a small cafe shop. There was no one there and we were not sure if they were open or not. The bathrooms and water fountains are also in the basement. There weren't very many people in the museum honestly. We only saw 5 or 6 groups the ENTIRE time. Overall it was a great visit and we'd definitely visit again. Especially if the price is FREE. It was nice to have the museum mostly to ourselves. Most the other ones we visited on our road trip was SUPER packed. We sort of saw everything in those 2 hrs we were there (minus the outside sculptures) and had time to shop the gift shop. We did run through pretty quickly. I think 3 hrs would've been perfect and we have 3 kids. One of which is ADHD and we survived.
David L — Google review
If you have 2 hrs to spare, why not stroll through the halls of this museum of art. My favorite painting is one of tattered boats overcoming the elements in the aftermath of the storm. I don't understand the contemporary arts but I guess I don't have the eyes for them.

Located in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, the Spurwink Congregational Church is a historic architectural gem that dates back to 1802. As the oldest public building in town, it has undergone renovations and now serves as a community center. The church's original appearance has been carefully preserved through recent restoration efforts. I was in the area and noticed the Spurwink Congregational Church. So I stopped my vehicle and proceeded to take a few photos 📸 It's a Beautiful Church, set in Country side ❤ of Maine. I felt Peace🙏 while visiting.

C Salt Gourmet Market is a cafe located in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. It offers lunch and dinner from Monday to Sunday, with a break for winter from March 13th through March 21st. The market provides a variety of dishes and celebrates the best of New England with events like the New England Clambake. Visitors can enjoy traditional New England cuisine while taking in scenic coastal Maine views.
The double decker ring ding is amazing, but be warned it is easily enough for two (or three) to enjoy! The cheeses were also fantastic, we got the 2 year aged cheddar and the maple cheddar. Definitely worth the trip over to C Salt if you are in the Portland area.

Ordered a sandwich and not only was it cold, the bread was moldy! Of course I only noticed this after I had taken a few bites. They did remake the sandwich, but you'd think for the price of the food here they wouldn't be serving moldy bread. The food in general is overpriced for the portion sizes and service was slow. Would not recommend.
Nathaniel R — Google review
Great atmosphere, inside and on the patio. Baked goods are great, but pricey. However, the deal-breaker for our book club was that NO ONE liked ANY of the coffee choices. How about one good medium-roast, unflavored, locally- roasted coffee? We’d come back!
Susan C — Google review
Decent pastries, expensive, ok coffee, unfriendly staff. Politely asked if they could remake one of our coffees, and was denied saying “that’s what you ordered, you’ll have to pay for another”… can’t say I’ve ever had that happen.
Nicole D — Google review
The food is just not great. After multiple visits to try a variety of food options we will not be purchasing food from here again. Its overpriced, bland and sloppy. The grilled cheese was bland with just american cheese on bread for $8.50, good enough for a kids taste buds, but terrible for an adult meal. Does not come with fries or a side. The quesadilla was incredibly sloppy and fell apart. They didn't even dice the tomatoes, there were several whole slices of tomato in the quesadilla. The chicken was $4 dollars to add to the quesadilla, it had no seasoning on it. Its $1 extra to add caramelized onion, $1 for peppers and $1 tomatoes, and we didn't find any peppers in the mix. It was the worst quesadilla we've ever had and we paid a total of $17 for it. The buffalo chicken wrap was average, but does not come with cheese on it and does not come with fries or a side. The wrap also had entire slices of tomatoes on it rather than diced. The chili did not seem freshly made for the day, looked and tasted like it was reheated from the previous day. Overall, its terribly overpriced for mediocre food in a cute cafe setting.

Such a great local find on our lighthouse adventures! It's a super cute market with gluten free and vegan treat options. I got a vegan and gluten free raspberry thumbprint and some coffee grounds. A tad pricey but I do enjoy supporting local shops. Great coffee and hot chocolate, a must visit if you are also making the trek around outer Portland!
Kayla H — Google review
We thought the food and atmosphere of C Salt Gourmet Market was very good. They have gluten-free options to include bread, tortillas, and bagels. They were able to also look into the ingredients of those items to check for other allergens present in our group. Other than making a mistake on our order (which wasn’t a big deal, but still happened) we were only disappointed by how many things they were out of. They were out of GF bread, a smoothie flavor, and a type of sandwich. Lastly, the lobster rolls seemed exorbitantly expensive. Would have loved to have been able to have one.

Goddard Mansion, located on Shore Road, was constructed in 1858 for John Goddard, a wealthy lumberman from Bangor, Maine. The mansion has a rich history and was acquired by the U.S. military in 1900, witnessing significant events such as World War I, World War II, and the Cold War.
Fantastic old building, a great piece of history. You can't go inside, there is a fence around the entrances, but windows and doors are missing, so you can see inside and feel how huge the mansion was. It's hard to imagine! Loved wandering around the area and standing in the ocean nearby.

We hiked to the Goddard Mansion last after exploring everything else. The lighting was perfect through the trees in the late afternoon. We entered from the back side coming from the Abandoned Fort Williams Bunker. There are trails back there and it looked so cool with the light. We took a number of photos and most people didn't really care. It looked like most hiked on the more formal trail to the front side. The mansion interior is fenced off but it was still really cool. I think we timed it just right for photos here. Also there weren't very many people interested in it. Looks like most wanted to see the abandoned bunker and then headed back. We would definitely come back to visit this mansion to explore it a bit more and see how it looks in other lighting conditions. We had a lot of fun doing photography here.

Incredible old building. The inside has been blocked off so you can't enter the building itself, but you can see through the windows ans doorways. Remnants of the old fore places are still present and the stone work is amazing. Incredible to walk around and think about how many lives came and went from here back in the day.

Cool old mansion you can walk up to through the woods or from the front. Kids would have fun exploring, although you can actually go inside the house

Super cool historic location! The mansion is visible from the parking lot and easy to walk to. The mansion is fenced in, but you can still get pretty close safely. (Although walking up and around the back is a bit more challenging than waking up to the front) The park is clean and there are port-a-pottys available.
Sam L — Google review
If you visit the lighthouse be sure to check out this end of the park as well. The mansion is beautiful; take some time to read the history and look up a few photos of the building back in its day. There are also plenty of WWII implacments to explore.

The Portland Observatory, built in 1807 by Captain Lemuel Moody, is the only remaining wooden maritime signal tower in the U.S. It served as a vital communication tower for ships approaching the Portland docks. The 86-foot-tall building provided shipowners with advance warning of their ships' arrival using a powerful telescope. Visitors can take seasonal tours to learn about its historical significance and enjoy panoramic views of the harbor and even New Hampshire's White Mountains on clear days.
History is important! Highly recommend visiting and hearing about the signal house. It's neat to hear what they had to do back then. It's not a lighthouse, it served a completely different purpose. The tours are guided during the day, and self-guided after 430pm. There is a family discount. 2 parents, up to 4 kids is $30.

360 views of Portland and the surprise was learning about the man who built and ran it and the relationship to Portland's maritime industry; both fascinating and fun. The staff are helpful! The lady at the top was full of insights that I appreciated and made the experience more wonderful.

If you're interested in local history, I can't recommend stopping here enough! Group tours are capped at 10 people, running every 30 minutes and last about 45 minutes. I recommend double-checking the website or calling in advance to make sure about times when they have guided tours versus not. Additionally the observatory is not handicap accessible. Our docent was very knowledgeable and had done these tours for 7 years. The views from the top are also amazing! Highly recommend!

Very nice tour! Our guide was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor! Thank you for a pleasant experience ❤️ Amazing views and history!!! A unique and important landmark in the history of Portland, ME. We took the 30 minute guided tour up the observatory. The guide provided excellent info on the history, function and operation of the observatory as well as info on Portland's maritime history. A great first stop/orientation to Portland. We had no wait for our tour. Very enjoyable and informative.

Very interesting historical place. Worth the cost to find out about this building. Didn't have time to take the tour, but do want to come back to take it to get more info.
Michael S — Google review
Lovely visit to the Portland Observatory. We had intended on a self-tour but were told that self tours would start at 4:30pm…and that before that time, you would have to take a toured guide up the tower. As there was a scheduled guide about to start soon…we opted to take the guided tour. At that time (mid-week in late August around 12pm) there were only four of us on that tour. Our tour guide, an older woman, was wonderful. As we ascended the tower during the 45-minute tour, we stopped off at each floor and she explained a bit about the tower and its history. Lots of interesting facts! We made it to the top to take in some amazing views of the area. Tours are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6-16 and free for those 5 and under. The stairs (there are about 100) throughout the tower are spiral-ish…so be careful of your foot placement on the narrowed parts of each step while ascending and descending. Street parking signs can be a bit tricky in the area reading “…no parking on the 1st/2nd/3rd/4th ___day of the month…” Be sure to properly read those signs and park accordingly.
Jemlnlx — Google review
I'm from out of town and this is a must-do activity. Highly recommend doing a tour with the docent. They give a great explanation of the history and structure of the tower and you stop at each of the 7 floors so you have time to catch your breath! Also the views from the top are awesome!! It's $10 per adult, $8 for seniors, $5 for residents.

Visitors can explore Maine's ecosystem along a 20-foot waterway in the Nature Trails exhibit or immerse themselves in the world of music at Sounds Abound.
Lovely little place! Staff is always super friendly and there is enough to do for a few hours with kids of all ages. If you’re going to go more than a couple times a year, I highly recommend the membership! 👶🏼: It’s great for all ages but babies and toddlers specifically will love the second floor. There is a soft play area & on the third floor, a light room and water play area! 🅿️: is a PITA. If you get there early enough or go on a not busy day, it’s fine BUT most days, the parking lot is pretty full in front. However, there is plenty of parking behind/close by. Parking is extra $$ though. I think it’s like $2/hr or something. It’s way easier with the Passport app. They will ticket you if you don’t pay! 🛝: There is a nice little outdoor playground with benches, a sand pit, slides, and climbing structure.
Erica V — Google review
This children’s museum offers a ray of make believe, fun crafts and ways to get energy out. They have area for kids under the age of 8 and an area the lighthouse which is for 2yo and younger (meant for non crawlers). They have a small aquarium and huge water table area. Great place to go to in the winter. Downfalls, kids get soaked at the water table area even with apron on. Bring a change of clothes. The space is very tight so when busy no strollers can fit and you are on top of one another. Wish there was more space as it’s defiantly tight inside. Another downfall is you must pay to park. Communal area to put jackets and bags but no lockers. Very easy to steal belongings. Also no food or drink allowed so makes it difficult for the bottle kiddos.

Great place to bring your young ones to enjoy many different areas of play. Outside play area with sand, jungle gym, and music. Inside so much to explore! Water play area, interactive learning, and theater. They are all about STEM! And it is amazing! Check out their website for more information. They have an elevator and stairs. They have picnic tables outside near the outdoor play area. Many benches to sit on for parents to relax as they watch their children. Restrooms on each floor.

Really love the top floor where kids can interact with different elements, air, light, and water. The light exhibit is especially fun and includes a giant camera obscura. The staff in the fish area are really friendly and knowledgeable. They're always engage my kids in conversations about fish and the environment. We've seen shows there too and the staff are very patient and accommodating of my kids, who are in constant motion. They introduced a gift shop this year and that has been challenging. It's unavoidable on the way out and has ruined otherwise lovely visits

If you’ve got the money, this place will keep your kid busy for literally HOURS. We took our 1 year old and he loved the light play, water play, air play, and the fish tanks. It was too expensive for us to afford, but we happened to have a free ticket.

An incredible experience. Made for hands on learning and imaginative play! My child could have stayed there all day and never got bored because there were so many activities and opportunities to be creative. A great place for multi aged children too. The baby area was conveniently next to the imaginative play area for toddlers and kids. Be sure to check out the arts and crafts section too!

Brought our grandchildren here on a lazy Sunday. Thinking we were going to spend $20 per person (which would have been well worth it) we only spent $4. It was "Dollar Day". The museum provided some snacks and juice for the kids. They had a story reading in a movie theater setting with a big screen. The kids loved it!!. After the reading they went to town just playing and interacting with other children. They especially liked the water activities, dress play, the light room, and hours of entertainment with each floor. Great place for safe and family fun!!
Jennifer F — Google review
We had a great time with our 2 and 4 year old, spending about 2 hours at the museum. Plenty of activities for the kids. They especially liked the dress up activities like fireman and doctor. The water play was super engaging and fun as well! We ended watching a theater show about making chowder. They had each kid in the audience participate in making the chowder. Thank you for the great experience!

Recently, I invested in a share as their fish, seafood, and produce are consistently fresh and reasonably priced. The convenience of their curbside service is wonderful.

We have bought from Alewives for the 40 years we’ve lived here. They only get better. Now, in isolation, we buy from them even more. We bought a share. The Fish, Seafood & Produce are so fresh, the prices are very reasonable, the curbside service is great. There’s no big “food supply chain”; the products are just handled by the Jordan family. Support our local farm. You’ll love it. Let kids “see” and learn where their food comes from.

Victoria Mansion, also known as the Morse-Libby House or Morse-Libby Mansion, is a stunning 19th-century Italian villa-style home located in downtown Portland. Built in 1860 as a summer retreat for a wealthy hotelier, it was designed by architect Henry Austin and boasts an asymmetrical structure with a four-story tower, overhanging eaves, inviting verandas, and ornate windows.
Absolutely go see this gem! Lovingly restored and kept, the workmanship is incredible. The decor is lavish. The docents were all so knowledgeable and friendly; and shared so much interesting information that really brought our visit over the top. We spent about an hour here. Be sure to ask about the restoration of the smoking room; specifically the fabrics. It’s an amazing story.

Nice little historical home in Portland. House was been renovated when we arrived so the front was largely in construction. The inside was well maintained and the docents were very knowledgeable and friendly. It is walkable from most of the hotels downtown and by the harbor which was good as there was only street parking. There is a nice little gift shop as well. 2 friendly mainecoons prowl the ground.

Must do a tour! An eye opening view into the rich history of a home built by true craftsmanship and finished by artists. Each wall is hand painted with exquisitely detail. House is completely furnished with all furnishings original to the house - not the era - original to the home when built. With the price of admission to see the home as well as the furnishings. A very knowledgeable volunteer staff provides in depth information on each room and explains the history of the families which owned it and artistry of the build. Home was built in two years!

Victoria Mansion blew me away with its incredible Italianate design and rich details. The soaring tower, intricate woodwork, and stained-glass skylight are just breathtaking. Inside, nearly everything is original—furnishings, artwork, and even the heating system! Our guide, Tom, was fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the mansion’s history. He really brought each room to life. If you're into historic architecture or interior design, this place is a must-see. Truly inspiring.

When searching for things to do in Portland, we came across this. It is definitely worth a visit, as it is a Victorian mansion that you can view almost all of. All of the workers were very knowledgeable and friendly, and it was really neat to be able to see the main floor and the upstairs. The third floor was closed due to fire codes, but we saw a lot more than what you usually get to when you see an old house.

Fantastic experience with a guided tour. Victorian Maine is encapsulated in this mansion where you can learn about the families who lived here and see some beautiful woodwork, plaster work and Victorian housewares and furnishings. The gift shop is well-curated with whimsical gifts. A show stopper is seeing Roofie, one of the loveable mascots 🐈 They are renovating the exterior but it does not affect the tour inside. The Good Table is a long-standing restaurant in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, established in 1986. It's known for being a beloved neighborhood spot that serves a variety of dishes including seafood, American classics, and some Greek specialties. The restaurant offers breakfast on weekends, brunch on Sundays, lunch from Wednesday to Saturday, and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday as well. They have limited reservations available for dinner service and Sunday breakfast/brunch.
After reading a beautifully written feature on The Good Table in Down East Magazine, we finally felt inspired to go. This spot had been on our list since moving to Maine, and it felt like the perfect time. We booked same-day reservations for brunch and ended up having one of the best brunches we’ve ever had in Maine. From the food to the service and the cozy ambiance, everything was perfect; so much so that I bought a gift card before we left because I knew we’d want to come back soon. The brunch menu isn’t huge, but it had just the right amount of variety. I ordered the croissant French toast, and my husband went for the burger. Both were incredible. After my first bite, I turned to him and said, “I don’t think I’ve had French toast until now”—it was that good. The cranberry compote on top was *chef’s kiss*. My husband’s burger was cooked to perfection l. The coffee was amazing, served in the cutest little cup that made me feel like I was at a cabin-themed restaurant tucked in the mountains. The staff kept refilling it without us ever needing to ask. Our Bloody Marys were just as impressive. Everything about the experience; from the warm, attentive service to the inviting, homey vibe of the restaurant; made it feel extra special, especially on a chilly day. I can’t believe it took us this long to visit The Good Table. I already can’t wait to go back.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take a picture before I was halfway through it. Hope to try to replicate it back home. Great service, friendly, very classy, and clean. Highly recommend it!

The vibes are cute; the food is decent, but not amazing; we got the peccori dish and the broccoli was bitter (maybe that’s how it is supposed to taste(?)) anyhow, we were expecting more based on how the place looks and the price. The service was beyond amazing.

Had the fish chowder, a house salad and the chicken. The chowder is superb, the salad was generous and the chicken was very good.

Everything was very good. My scallops were a bit overcooked but nothing tragic. Service is great, menu is limited but nothing was not worth having. I took 5 guys here for a business dinner and I was very happy with the value. Everyone enjoyed their meal.

Our favorite place for a nice cozy meal. Appreciate large portions appropriate for price. Staff is very professional and friendly. We have sat in dining room and the bar. Really enjoy the cocktail menu, shepherd's pie, and chocolate pie. Only con is the dining room can be very noisy when busy.

The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad, located in Portland, offers a unique and charming coastal train ride with stunning ocean views. The museum features a collection of restored steam and diesel locomotives that once operated on the two-foot gauge railway across the state. Visitors can enjoy informative commentary from docents while taking in the historical significance of this unusual railway system.
We had a delightful family outing at the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad and Museum last Sunday with my niece, her husband, and their three young children. Our experience started well at the gift shop, which offered a fun selection of souvenirs and drinks perfect for our upcoming ride (though perhaps the term "museum" is a bit generous, as it seemed limited to a single case of artifacts). The train conductor was absolutely charming, fully embracing an "old-timey" vibe that added to the fun for everyone. The ride itself is perfectly suited for little ones – just long enough to hold their attention, but not so long that they get restless. While the kids loved taking in the views of the beautiful Maine coastline from the windows, the adults truly appreciated the historical insights and information shared over the loudspeaker. The halfway stop was a pleasant bonus, allowing us all to stretch our legs and enjoy seeing boats out on the ocean. We wholeheartedly recommend the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad and Museum for anyone seeking a unique and enjoyable experience, especially if you're traveling with small children. It's a charming step back in time along the Maine coast!

Unique ride on one of the few remaining narrow Guage railroads! The ride takes about 45 minutes with narration about local spots you are passing, and the history of the narrow Guage railroad! It was a good time and we bought tickets at the station for our ride 10 minutes later.

Fun experience and a great way to enjoy a sunny September day. Staff is super friendly. Cute gift shop, too. Grab a water or soda for the ride or book the first class car and get a drink and snack included!

What a fun experience! We bought first class tickets so we got a little snack and drink for the ride. The staff was very friendly and even took pictures with us! The ride had beautiful views and was very informational!

An excellent trip on this railroad! Easy to book online in advance ( or you can book in the shop on the day ) very close to the cruise terminal. You can chose to sit in first class or standard. Both are lovely! Great views! Try and sit on the right side of the train for gorgeous bay views. If you buy first class online, head into the shop for your drink and snack. We had a whoopie cake, delicious! A short ride along the bay, beautiful views. Would be great for any train loving kids or big kids! A visit takes about an hour.
Lois C — Google review
It's short but fun for cruise boaters who haven't got the stamina for long walks. You get to see the shore line and hear the history of the trains. Plus the staff were super helpful and accommodating for mobility challenged people.
Mary S — Google review
Round trip, it's a 40 minute ride. The cost is fairly inexpensive. Check out their website. Can add snacks and water for pretty cheap. Restrooms here. Along with a gift shop and snacks. My only reason for four stars is it's just so short. But my kids enjoyed it.
Slim S — Google review
We wanted to tour the area and see the train, perhaps go for a ride, yet we could not find nearby parking. Found what I first thought was an open space but it was for taxis only. The cruise terminal was very busy with people everywhere. Wife is mobility challenged so no way we could park blocks away and then walk back to it. Looked like a fun excursion and maybe on another trip to the area we can revisit.

The Maine Historical Society and the Wadsworth-Longfellow House offer a glimpse into the history of Maine. The house, once home to poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, is filled with estate furnishings and features a charming garden for visitors to explore. Meanwhile, the Maine Historical Society Museum showcases changing exhibitions and programs that span over five centuries of Maine life. With original exhibits featuring art, artifacts, and documents from their extensive collections, visitors can vividly experience Maine's rich history.
Been walking by this place just about every day for two months and every time I walk by, I say one of these days I've GOT to go in. History is cool and Maine History is Super Cool. I've heard nothing but good things about the Maine Historical Society and I'm a big fan of Longfellow's work, going next week and plan on doing a FULL review after I tour both locations.

The Maine Historical Society Museum in Portland offers a quirky and engaging experience—perfect for a quick escape from the rain. The current exhibits include Best Friends: Mainers and Their Pets, Maine’s Untold Vegetarian History, and Notorious: Maine Crime in the Public Eye, 1690–1940. While you won’t come away with a deep understanding of Portland’s history, the museum’s charm lies in its offbeat, thoughtfully curated displays. It’s a fun, low-key stop for anyone interested in Maine’s more unexpected historical threads. Overall, it’s a brief but enjoyable visit that highlights some of the state’s lesser-known stories.
Michael B — Google review
Had a wonderful conversation with an employee who stopped by the mural we were painting around the corner. He shared a lot of knowledge about the imagery we chose to feature in the piece. Little did we know Longfellow’s house was right around the corner! Thank you!!
Greetings T — Google review
Fun experience. My initial reaction was that the museum felt small and like it would test my patience as there was a lot of reading placards vs "stuff" to look at. Boy was I in for a pleasant surprise. The information was gripping. I found myself looking forward to the next story. I left thinking I learned an awful lot and had a nice base if I wanted to pursue further on my own. Tour of the Wadsworth Longfellow house was also a fun adventure. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly and encouraged a thoughtful experience. It was a little cramped with 10 participants but not horribly so. I definitely recommend.
Melissa H — Google review
We really enjoyed our visit. It is a gorgeous place. Kudos to the staff who put their hilarious spin on the "do not touch" signs! I pretty much went on a treasure hunt, looking for one in each room! Our guide was wonderful, too.
Natosha M — Google review
The two main Wadsworth-Longfellow houses (this and the house in Boston) are unusual in the sheer volume of original artifacts. What distinguishes this house is the rather professorial mien of the guides. Taken in total, it is easy to gain a deeper appreciation for America's most popular poet during the 19th century.
Jason M — Google review
We like to visit a historical society whenever we get a chance because we like learning about the community's history. There's a great food exhibit in the gallery that was really interesting and informative. You can even turn into a Portland Italian sandwich which is obviously for kids, but naturally I couldn't resist. You can also visit the Wadsworth-Longfellow House next door.
Melinda G — Google review
We wanted to visit a museum in Portland that is focused on local history and this was the only one that fit the bill. It was small but quite interesting. It gave us a glimpse of Maine’s past and present through two exhibitions. The first, called “Trade Banners and the Crafts That Built Maine” presented the various trade associations from the mid-1800s, whose collective output was vital to the state’s economy. The second, called “Spark! Maine ART Stories”, showcased the work of contemporary local artists and what Maine means to them. The museum has a nice gift shop offering coffee table books and souvenirs. We stayed for an hour.

The International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland is a small but fascinating attraction dedicated to the study of legendary creatures such as Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, and mermaids. It's a unique place that appeals to both believers and skeptics alike. The museum features specimens, models, artistic impressions, documents, and personal accounts related to these mysterious animals. While adults may approach with skepticism, kids will be captivated by the collection of photos and life-size replicas of these spooky creatures.
There is a lot going on in this museum. If you like monsters, cryptids, mythical creatures, legends etc I would say its worth it. I am not necessarily a believer in many of these things but am very interested in them as well folklore and this place was a joy to explore. Bigfoot, mermaids, Jersey Devil, aliens, mothman, they are all here! It's two floors has statues, toys, artifacts, and recreations of stuff. It's actually pretty well-organized chaos once you get used to it, every cabinet area has a different cryptid with a card description of the creature. My wife and I actually really liked the old fashion 'cabinet of curiosities' feel of the place. I love that they allow photos (no videos) since there is so much to read a look at you might miss something. It's a really fun museum with a different flavor than most other museums.
Tim W — Google review
Quite the collection of cryptid related items! Not a museum in a traditional sense but definitely a museum worth visiting nonetheless. Had a bit of everything and avoided the repetitive factor one feels from looking at the same genre of things over and over. Definitely worth a visit for the price!
Tori — Google review
You could spend a couple days here if you really wanted to take in all the information. We did a "quick" look and read some of the info and it took us about 1.5 hours. The museum is well laid out, displays are easy to see, and I'm sure anyone could find something of interest here. If you're looking for definitive proof that one of these elusive entities exists, this is not the place. Loren Coleman, the founder, was a scientist and in an effort to prove or disprove a theory, he scrutinized evidence presented. (I found the mummified mermaid very interesting!) The museum had a lot more to offer than just bits of suspiciously found data and sensationalized testimony.
BL — Google review
What a fun museum! Super interesting to learn about different creatures from around the country and the world. The information accompanying everything was the perfect amount to inform but not overwhelm. You can see the care that was used to create this museum in each exhibit. Super cool and would definitely recommend! Could Easily spend over an hour here.
Hailey — Google review
Good for kids in that it might get them interested about biology and zoology, but less a museum and more someone's collection of memorabilia and curiosities. A proper exhibition of a subject like Bigfoot or one of the many unexplained creatures could go a long way to elevating the experience.
Jeffrey G — Google review
We had gone to the Mothman museum in Point Pleasant WV. And we're underwhelmed. So we were hesitant on visiting this museum. We are so glad we visited it. A lot of info, foot print casts, and science fiction movie references. We were here almost a hour and loved it.

The International Cryptozoology Museum is a memorable museum located in Portland, Maine. It is home to a large collection of mysterious objects. It is easy to locate the museum from the parking lot, all you have to do is spot the statue of Bigfoot. Once you’re inside the museum you can wander through several rooms spread over two stories. The museum has all sorts of displays about different “animals” or “monsters” from all around the world. The largest and most memorable displays are of Bigfoot. The casts of Bigfoot’s footprints are definitely interesting. There is also an interesting display on the coelacanth. The coelacanth is a fish which was thought to be extinct until it was rediscovered in 1938. Other catchy displays include the Mothman, Loch Ness Monster, New Jersey Devil, and Mermaids. The time you spend in here varies. If you’re interested in it, you could be here for hours, if you’re not, then an hour or less. The gift shop is full of books about cryptozoology, and some of the books are written and autographed by the founder of the museum. It’s definitely an interesting and memorable museum.

Shack is a popular restaurant in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, known for its award-winning status and local landmark since the 1920s. Perched above the rocks, it offers a menu featuring lobster dinners, clam plates, fisherman's plates, and shrimp. Additionally, Kettle Cove Ice Cream and Shack is recommended for those seeking delicious ice cream with unique flavors like Two Lights, Caper Swirl, and Crescent Beach.
Classic New England summer ice cream and burger shack. Not a bad stop for either. One suggestion… fry the hot dogs. It will take you next level and make you stick out from the others. No one will be disappointed either. You are welcome. 😎

Staff was really nice. Quick service. We beat the crowd once again. I got my usual Oreos cookies and cream and bae continued his Maine blueberry ice cream tour. It was delicious and did the job.

My son and I have always loved their ice cream! So we decided to try the Shack for lunch. My son got the chicken tender basket and loved it. I got the single patty smash burger. OMG! It was the best burger I’ve had in decades. Their fries and onion rings are amazing. I suggest getting lunch to go and eating it at Kettle Cove SP.
Kathy G — Google review
We’ve read the positive reviews for Kettle Cove Ice Cream and Shack and decided to try their ice cream. I ordered their strawberry ice cream. It was okay ice cream. It was not as creamy from an ice cream shop and tasted more like ice cream bought from the supermarket. This was back in 2016. I never went back until last night when my daughter wanted ice cream. Our usual ice cream shop sold their business and so we figured we give Kettle Cove Ice Cream another shot. She ordered Birthday Cake Batter hard serve. After her first taste, she said the texture and consistency was weird, runny, gummy and grainy...more like soft serve than hard. And as it melted, consistency was similar to chunky glue. My daughter couldn’t finish her ice cream. She has had birthday cake batter from various ice cream shops through the years. It is one of her favorite flavors. Ice cream tends to melt with a consistency that is very runny and smooth not chunky and gummy. It was disappointing because my daughter was really looking forward to just having some ice cream. We brought the ice cream back to the shack, which was less than half unfinished, to let them know that the birthday cake batter tasted weird in texture and consistency. We were told that’s just how the birthday cake batter is suppose to be and was offered another scoop of ONLY the same flavor. If we didn't like it, why would we want more of the same flavor...at least let us choose something else? We declined and threw away the rest. Unfortunately, we do not plan to buy ice cream here again. I can’t justify paying a lot for runny/gummy ice cream.

Kettle Cove Ice Cream is a classic!! Very good ice cream, lots of Flavors for both kids and adults! Old fashioned dirt lot near 2 great beaches- you can smell the salt air. It is run very efficiently- the staff moves the line and servings are generous! HONESTLY the shack is not so efficient- waited over an hour for a hot dog!!! And was told 10 minutes. Sorry to say but it wasn’t worth it. Bring the IceCream team over there to manage the crowds! It’s not rocket science and it’s a much needed good affordable option in this area.

Went with my client after sitting at the beach. Wonderful place, very family friendly, and great atmosphere. Prices were appropriate for his budget and the size was too. Many homemade flavors to choose from, and some soft serve as well. You can also buy T-shirts from them!! Will definitely be going back.

Twice we have driven here after checking the sign in their window that indicates new hours 12-8… closed. Apparently as delicious as their ice cream is they open when they feel like it. Suggestion, update your hours online to save your customers unnecessary traveling.

Fantastic. I get to try a few out of the ordinary flavors (ginger and pumpkin pie) and they were both delicious. I had peanut butter cup (peanut butter ice cream with large chunks of peanut butter cup mixed in) and it too was delicious. Ice cream apparently made on site.

Kettle Cove State Park offers a tranquil experience for visitors, especially during the off-season when it's closed to vehicles. The park features a secluded sandy beach adjacent to Crescent Beach, providing ample space and its own parking lot. During low tide, kids can explore the tide pools while adults can enjoy the beautiful scenery. In addition to the beach, there are walking trails and a small grassy area suitable for picnics.
Such a great spot with its trails and beach and cliff views. Be mindful of some poison ivy up in the trails. They do have bathrooms which is great. Know that on a beautiful day it can get packed real fast with parking. Forcing you to circle around or park at crescent beach and make the walk - which I’ve seen done.

Great place! There is plenty of parking, a couple of port-a-potties plus showers. A place to rent kayaks & several benches before heading down to the beach. The park is kept clean and has several easy walking trails. There are also swings for the kids to play on and tucked up amongst the walking trails are little areas that have a feel of seclusion with basic grills and picnic tables if you plan to make a day at the beach.

The charter provides all necessary fishing equipment and the chance to catch various fish species such as cod, bass, pollock, and mackerel during the right season. Customers have praised the knowledgeable and friendly staff who ensure an engaging experience for both adults and children.
Captain Hugh and his mate Nick gave us memories to last a lifetime! What an experience! We went on the deep sea fishing trip for an 8 hour day on the ocean. They made sure our lines always had bate, and we caught so many fish! Nick took care of the fish for us so that when we got home all we had to do was divide them and put them in freezer bags. They were very personable and attentive to ensure that we were having a great time. My son is already talking about next years trip!

A group of friends and I booked a fishing trip with Live Liner Charters. If your looking for a fun experience check them out. We caught fish and got to take home the lobsters that were in the traps that were legal to take home. Captain Hugh and Nick were friendly and talked with us about the history of the lighthouses we saw while out on the trip. A cooler with water and ginger ale was available if anyone wanted something to drink. Very professional. They made everything just feel like we were out on a boat with good friends having a great time. Very helpful with baiting the fishing lines and casting for anyone that needed help. Definitely hoping to check out another of their fishing trips next year either with the tuna or shark fishing trips. Don't miss out. Go out and have some fun deep sea fishing. Thanks for being so kind and accommodating taking pictures of our group for us. You are much appreciated.

We did 2 half-day trips back to back. We caught enough for us to have an excellent dinner the first night. We had 4 kids with us. They were very accommodating with the kids. They were willing to teach us all. They showed us around the area. We got to see and take pictures of seals! We saw some porpoises! I wish we could have gotten closer to them but I understand. On day 1 we caught a bunch of striped bass. On day 2 we caught a few striped bass and got the chance to catch a bunch of mackerel for bait. This was my first time on a charter. I can't recommend highly enough!!!!! They were so cool! It was FUN and relaxed!!!! If you ever get the chance you should call them up and go out!!! Thank you, Captain Hough, and Mate, Nick!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to share our experience with Liveline charter service out of South Portland Maine. Captain Hugh and his first mate Nick went above and beyond to insure we had an amazing fishing trip. Experience and knowledgeable they took us to a spot where we immediately begin catching fish we fished until we ran out of bait! But we weren’t done yet. After a quick stop for photos in front of Portland head light, we moved to new spot and began to catch mackerel by the barrel full. Bait yes bait for the strippers back to fishing again! I can’t say enough about these two amazing gentleman and their boat. Looking for a good time fishing these guys are your tickets! Ps we found them on Facebook

Ram Island Ledge Light Station, situated about a mile offshore in Casco Bay, serves as a crucial aid to navigation. The lighthouse is built on a series of stone ledges forming the tiny Ram Island and designates the northern end of Portland's harbor main channel. Although not open to the public and accessible only by private boat, it can be viewed and photographed from Portland Head Light.
Had a 6 hr free time before a meeting so I rented a car and drove along the coast of Maine. Saw many beautiful sights, including this light house. We’ll worth the drive

How beautiful it was. The waves crashing in on the rock formations was breath taking I always thought the PCH was the most photographic coast line. I was wrong... This was every bit as awe inspiring as the Grand Canyon IMHO.

Ram Island Ledge Lighthouse Not to much to say about this Lighthouse. Its on a Island out in the middle of the Casco Bay. Only way to get to this Lighthouse is on a boat. It looks like its in rough shape and soon will need some improvements done to it. This 1905 Lighthouse is still in use as of today. Its 77 feet tall to the light. The total height is 90 Feet to the top. The Lighthouse is privately owned but the US Coast Guard operates it. You can get some decent pictures from the Fort Williams Park Elizabath Maine. I will give this Lighthouse a 4 out of 5 because its so hard to get to. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Follow Me On FB For More Reviews & Fun Gulf Coast Terry

According to fellow reviewer Roby Ventures, Google Maps takes you to the wrong location. I guess the other Google Maps review has the correct location. New England Eco Adventures brought us as close as they could. There are reefs around the lighthouse. The people who maintain the lighthouse have access with a small boat that was left anchored nearby. You can also observe it from Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. I heard it is for sale. The lighthouse is still needed because of the reefs.

Beautiful lighthouse, this location really takes you back to a time where things were very different. These photos I was able to capture from the shore with my telephoto lens. Stopping at the portland head light is really a one stop kind of spot if you're looking for pictures of amazing landscape and beautiful lighthouses. Can't wait to come back again to see these majestic sights again. Completely worth the trip!

Once an army fort, this park now features popular attractions such as the iconic Portland Head Light and the charming Children's Garden. The garden offers a festive atmosphere during the holiday season with wreaths and bows adorning the surroundings.
A lot of effort went into creating this park 🏞️ for kids and adults. I enjoyed walking the trails that went through the planted areas, a pond, not named Amy, and past a small stream. There were a few tunnels for the kids as well as a slide. A heads up for grandmas, you can go rather fast down the slide! I heard a grandma yell "😱 OMG!" as she sped down the slide! Last night in Portland so wanted to end the vacation with a bang — this did not disappoint! Eating on a boat with a fantastic ambiance and very light music in the background (but still able to hold a convo) helped create this experience even better! One of the best Loaded Wedge Salads I’ve had with the perfect amount of toppings (I always request dressing on the side as from previous experiences it can be overpowering); the Mixed Seafood Broil was perfectly cooked with the right amount of seasoned crumb toppings — the steamed asparagus side was very well-proportioned and worth the extra $ Would eat here again when in town and try more options from the menu! This should be a “must try” on your list of restaurants to hit up in Portland!

We did not have reservations, so we went to the bar area which had seats available. Within two minutes we were greeted and asked if we wanted any drinks. We got our drinks and she took our order. Within twenty minutes we received our food. Our food was delicious, I highly recommend ordering the cold lobster roll. I suggest calling in to make a reservation. Make sure you validate your parking ticket. Restrooms were clean.

We enjoyed our meal & the atmosphere. We made reservations for the patio & were seated immediately. Haddock was amazing & tasted fresh. Service was great & our waitress checked in on us just enough times! Our only complaint were the side choices— side options were limited & hard to pair with their menu options.

I would say you’re definitely going here for the ambiance and the experience of dining somewhere unique. The decor was very nice and the views are excellent. Our server was very kind, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was just okay. We came in around 4:30 and did appetizers, drinks and dessert. Steamed clams were very gritty. Not your normal, occasional grain of sand, but very much could’ve been cleaned better. Crab cakes were a hit with our party. Great variety of drinks. Desserts were very good- we did the blueberry cobbler and the mud pie.

Friendly all around. The bartender was quite helpful reviving my cell phone. The food was delicious all around too! The bowl of lobster mac was amazing albeit a bit pricey $50 for the portion received however the amount of lobster in the mix was really good.

I recently visited this place during my day visit to Portland,ME and I loved coming here for dinner after a long day of city exploration. Their food is quite tasty and both the quality/quantity of food is satifying. One must try their Bacon-Wrapped scallops ,they are sooo good. Their fried fish sampler is also delicious and their lobster rolls too are amazing. Pricing seems fair and could be little expensive, but thats standard for a restaurant well known for seafood. I highly recommend coming here for dinner, worth the 2 hr drive from Boston!

Brilliant! One of the best meals! Ignore the rebiew about bell Peppers in the crab cakes. They were superb, so meaty, mostly crab and little potato. The tuna tartar was one of the best I have tasted on my travels. I also had the pecan crusted haddock- excellent! A sweetness in the sauce, the fish was well cooked and moist. Will return as soon as I can. Thank you Lilly.

I don't think you can go very wrong at DiMillo's. We had good drinks, and some amazing food. Why only 4 - Stars, ..?.. Well, their lobster stew is to die for, ... the onion rings - do NOT order for just one person, and I do not "like" onion rings, but these are great! The wedge salad was among the very best we've had, ... the 4-stars, ... I am a crab cake aficionado, .. their crab cakes were taken over by the flavor of bell peppers. FAIL!! Bell peppers have little to no business in a crab cake. Crab is a relatively delicate flavor granting people a lovely sweetness that interweaves with other delicate flavors that meld in a wonderful blend of deliciousness. Bell peppers are appropriate to cover up unwelcome flavors in all sorts of foods and should not be the salient flavor in such an expensive offering as crab cakes. Service was very good. Even the owner, Mr. DiMillo stopped by. You will enjoy your experience at DiMillo's. [Avoid the crab cakes].

Seafood restaurant
The Lobster Shack at Two Lights is a renowned restaurant that has been a local favorite since the 1920s. It offers stunning views of the ocean and lighthouse while serving delicious lobster and fried seafood. The menu features a variety of seafood options, including lobster dinner, clam plate, fisherman's plate, and shrimp. Located in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, this award-winning restaurant promises an unforgettable culinary experience with its fresh and inspiring cuisine.
We were looking for a quick bite to eat and stumbled upon this spot, which had been recommended by our family in South Portland, Maine. When we arrived, we were greeted by a stunning view from the outdoor seating area. We ordered a variety of dishes to sample, and everything was absolutely delicious. Since it was a bit warm outside, we chose to eat indoors, where the atmosphere was cool and comfortable. It provided a perfect place to sit back and relax for a few minutes before heading to our next destination. We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great food and a relaxing environment.

Super cool experience, you are right on the water. The food is good, the service is fast if you get there before the lunch rush. The portion size is good for what you pay. The inside the building is cute. Has a lot of fun little decor. The blueberry pie crumble is delicious. I did get it with Cool Whip but I think it would be better without it.

The Lobster Shack at Two Lights is an iconic spot where everything comes together beautifully — flavor, history, and scenery. The lobster rolls are exquisite: super fresh, tender, and bursting with flavor. Service is quick and friendly. Beyond the food, what makes this place special is its evocative atmosphere. You can dine indoors, surrounded by relics from a steamship wrecked off this very coast in the early 1900s, which transport you into tales of the sea — or outdoors, at the classic red picnic tables that descend from a grassy bluff toward the ocean. It’s a multi-layered experience: you can stop at the pure pleasure of the taste, let your eyes rest on the view, or let your mind drift away into maritime stories carried by the wind and waves.

The smallest/ cutest lobster roll I have ever seen! Hard to tell from the pictures but it is sized more like a mini lobster roll. It was good but not filling at all. did not expect it to be so small for the price-($30). Loved the atmosphere. The outdoor seating views are breathtaking and very relaxing. Had to move indoors since there was a lot of mosquitoes out in the evening.

lovely dinner with the family. enjoyed every second of it! sat out at the tables where we overlooked the ocean with amazing lobster rolls, lobster, and all sorts of fried food. the wait in line went semi quickly and was well worth the wait. we also got whoopie pies and boy, were they special. excellent! will come back when we come to Maine again. :)

We loved it! Prices are similar all around. Impressive ocean views. Can walk on rocks. Food excellent, quick wait in line, very efficient, great home made pies, small gift shop. Picturesque place. Glad I live in Maine and can visit often

We had a great meal here while sitting outside watching the ocean waves. We had the lobster boat with fries and coleslaw and the cheeseburger boat with fries and coleslaw. Both were excellent. Great atmosphere and short wait for the food. A definite place to stop if visiting the lighthouses in the area.

The lobster rolls were delicious (we had for lunch/dinner) and bought two steamed lobsters 🦞 to bring home for dinner the next night! It’s right on the ocean with boulders and you have a beautiful view of the Two Lights Lighthouse. Typical scenery for Maine.

There’s something magical about Portland’s Commercial Street and Wharf Street at night. The cobblestone paths, bathed in the warm glow of string lights, make you feel like you’ve stepped into another era. Music drifts softly from tucked-away cafes, mingling with the scent of fresh espresso and the occasional note of cannabis from quirky little spots like Higher Grounds. It’s the kind of place where you wander without a plan—pausing for creamy gelato, lingering over a glass of wine, or settling into a corner to watch the world pass by. The brick buildings hold the city’s maritime history, the flowers spill color over wrought-iron railings, and every bend reveals a cozy nook. Commercial Street and Wharf Street aren’t just places—they’re a vibe. A little romantic, a little bohemian, and absolutely perfect for a night of slow strolling, easy conversation, and making memories you’ll want to relive again and again.

Plenty of options for eating and souvenir shopping. We were expecting a more scenic experience of an actual port .. our bad on that. Basically it's walking up the street and down the street. So we were a little disappointed.

A great spot to walk around while enjoying views from the bay, and it’s very dog friendly which is a big bonus. There are often times food trucks parked, with a good selection of cuisines. There’s basketball courts and a playground for kids, truly something for everyone.

This place is so beautiful. There are a lot of benches and also children playground and tennis courts. It's located in nicer part of Portland. Sitting on the grass and looking at the sea with friends, family or even alone would be relaxing. This place is clean, scenic and lively. I would come back here again.

Great place, always draws a big crowd. Even today when the wind was biting cold. One can just imagine the history that has played at this location over the decades past. A fort, a lighthouse, several islands, an old bean factory all visible. Not mention the awe of the ocean. I’m going to keep this review going with repeat visits in the future.

Great views. Lovely staff. And let me say... the best burgers we have had in many many years in a range of many many places. Everything we had was delicious. Hubby loved his soup and I really enjoyed my eggplant appetizer.

A beautifully located restaurant with lovely pcean-fscing patio. The food is really good, although not outstanding enough to change your route to drop in. The fish stew is solid, although I'd expect a slightly more filling meal. The swordfish is interesting, I recommend it (unless you hate cumin). Eggs Benedict are done on a great bun, although mine were overcooked (I asked for medium, they were hard boiled). Blueberry pancakes are very tasty, I only wish they had some fresh fruit on the side.

This place is AMAZING! We stayed at the Inn for three nights and ended up eating breakfast there every day and dinner there every night. Paula was so helpful with securing reservations for us and we enjoyed chatting with her before and after meals. Bella was our server in the morning and she was such a joy! Abby was our server at night and she was amazing! She was so helpful with recommendations and we really enjoyed getting to know her! The first night she recommended the Charred Elote Bisque and my mom and I both decided it was the best soup we've EVER had. We ordered it again both nights. The Ceaser Salad was also the best I've ever had. All of the food was top notch, the service was great, the presentation was exceptional. We are dying to return to Maine to have the Bisque before the menu changes again! Can't say enough good things about Sea Glass. All my compliments to the chefs and staff for making these meals so memorable!

Excellent original cocktails. We went out in Portland to Blyth and Burrows and Central Provisions and the Buoy was our favorite cocktail of the weekend. Came back from Portland early for a second night at the bar, which was well-attended both days by Edwin. Breakfast was fantastic - locally sourced ingredients, well-presented with an excellent view. Mushroom and mozzarella frittata was delicious and the crispy potatoes were amazing. All around great dining experience during our stay at the hotel.

Staying at the Inn and had two great breakfasts. Friendly, fast & considerate service. Update: another great breakfast. My experts said they changed the pancake recipe and it's even better than last time. Substituted chocolate chips for blueberries for one of the orders, to his delight. Berries and crispy potatoes stood out. Before closing, we ordered a lobster roll (great, even at $32) and gnocchi (just ok).

Perched atop The Westin Portland Harborview hotel, Top of the East offers a modern and chic setting for sipping craft cocktails and indulging in locally-sourced small plates while taking in breathtaking panoramic views of Portland. The lounge exudes a Maine-meets-NYC vibe, making it an ideal spot for both newcomers and locals to appreciate the city's sights.
I had such a great experience here! Claire, the manager, truly stands out. She’s incredibly nice, very professional, and you can tell she works hard to make sure everything runs smoothly. She has a great way of making guests feel welcome and taken care of. The rest of the staff is also friendly, attentive, and always ready with a smile, which really adds to the warm atmosphere. The bar itself has an amazing view of both the harbor and the city. I also love that they have live music, which creates such a fun and inviting vibe. Between the great service, the beautiful location, and the lively atmosphere, this place is an absolute gem. Highly recommend!

I was there for a work trip. And, us guys sat at the bar, obviously. I really just want to shout out to Claire for being the most spectacular bartender/mixologist! She was amazing! I forget the name, but this blue cheese martini! The way she made it, absolutely fantastic and unique, to me at least. Instead of blue cheese stuffed in the olive, it was infused in the vodka. Other, than being able to handle us at the bar, she was truly amazing! Prompt and she knew what she was talking about. Amazing. The Top of the East vibe was also fantastic with city views and sunset views. Just absolutely gorgeous! I would definitely recommend having a drink with Claire and just watch the sunset.

DON'T COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR NIGHT UTTERLY DESTROYED BY THE SHREW AT THE DOOR. We arrived at 11pm on Saturday evening for a nightcap on my 40th birthday celebration. Immediately upon the elevator opening, the god awful woman who was stationed at the host stand tried to tell my cousin "we close at 11:30" (a lie as we were told MULTIPLE times, by different people at the hotel, that they close at midnight). As I was the last out of the elevator, laughing and enjoying my birthday party with my arm around my aunt, enjoying the moment as she had JUST received news her daughter was in labor, I watched this woman RUN to the bartender for what looked like a solid "tattling" session. I'll never get this image out of my head. I stopped to ask what I thought would be a "joke" of a question - "Are we in trouble? Did we do something wrong? haha" and she looks me square in the eye and says "I'm just telling him not to serve YOU, specifically" (and she proceeds to point right at my face, like an evil big sister). When I asked why, she told me that she saw me "trip going up the stairs" (to which I very much do not remember... I only remember seeing her running to the bartender before I even got to the stairs but maybe? I was walking with my arm around my aunt after all). That said, I'm not a child, I'm not inexperienced and I never black out. It was clear she just had it out for us. Needless to say, we turned right back around and aborted the mission, ending the evening in my lovely suite downstairs in tears at how awful she was. It's unfortunate the bar lost out on probably $200-300 plus tips for the people who worked here by turning down 11 people in a mostly empty bar an hour before closing. I am not a hateful or spiteful person. This will hopefully be the only negative review or commentary I ever leave in life. This woman is clearly miserable. Management should be embarrassed to employ someone like her. I have quite literally never, EVER in my life been treated this way. Not even as a dumb 20-something. This woman deserves nothing more than to lose her job for acting so horribly... especially on someone's birthday. There are MUCH nicer ways to treat people trying to spend money in your establishment, even if you do perceive they shouldn't be served. The view was nice, sure, but I will literally never step foot in this place again and will do everything in my power to ensure everyone I know in, and who ever goes to, Portland never do either.

I came here in 2021 and back then they had these amazing brioche lobster sandwiches. Bring it back!!! But a great place for a view in Portland.

Absolutely stunning location, friendly service. However food came straight out of the sysco truck lol. The corn dip tasted of nothing, just cream. & the iceberg lettuce used for my wedge salad was riddled w red spots & was clearly spoiled, had some slimy spots etc. Wings seemed as tho they’d been microwaved. Would not recommend this place for FOOD, but absolutely yes for drinks & the location!

Our bartender Lexy was kind and attentive, our glasses were kept full but not in an annoying hovering way. =) She made recommendations when we asked, we took her advice, got the bruschetta and loved it! Made for a very pleasant date night. Glad we came, will be back.

Peaks Island, located in Casco Bay, offers a relaxed and charming atmosphere with various activities to enjoy. The 720-acre island is home to a small population of around 1,000 residents, which swells to 3,000 during the summer months. Visitors can take a short 15-minute ferry ride from Portland to reach the island. Once there, they can explore the area by renting bikes or kayaks and visit museums and historic sites.
Fun place for a few hours adventure. We took the ferry over and were able to rent a golf cart to drive around the island twice in 2 hour rental. (Try to book ahead) Lots of options for food. Can also rent bikes to get around island. To save money there is a grocery store to buy food and drinks for cheaper than restaurants.

Excellent day Trip. My husband and I escaped Southern NH for the weekend and made our way to Peaks Island ( sept 12 ) it was a gorgeous day so let me tell you it was still very busy even after the summer season wind down. The island is beautiful clean and offers a few shops some Trails a few restaurants and overall a nice day out. The ferry is $14 per adult ( round Trip) we rented a golf cart on the island to scoot us around.

To get to Peak Island, go to Casco Bay Pier. There you will buy your tickets to and back. It's about $7.50 for an adult round trip. Senior citizens are free. It's about a 15-minute ferry. The ferry is pretty smooth rides. Once you arrive at Peak Island. I would recommend renting a bicycle to bike the island. The island is not that big. Pretty do it in an hour. Go to this place called Brad's Recycle Bike Shop. It's about 2 bucks for 1 to 2 hours rental. It's well worth it. Right now, he doesn't have credit card payments. So we filled out the form and dropped the money. It's an honor system. Don't rent a golf cart. 100 bucks for 2 hrs. I feel that riding a bicycle, you get to enjoy it more. The east side of the island is much better with the ocean view. Definitely bring sunblock, water, and some snacks. The public bathroom is next Brad Recycle Bike shop. Peak Island is worth a day trip.
Calvin N — Google review
The ferry ride was exhilarating and I was blessed to catch it during sunset on the way back. Small little island easy to explore in an hour or so depending on whether you rent a golf cart or choose to walk. My first time touching the waters of the Atlantic.

Willard Beach in South Portland, Maine is a charming and dog-friendly destination that offers a mix of sand and pebbles, making it popular for dog walking and leisurely strolls. The dogs are by far the best reason to come to this beach. There is a nice little playground, a picnic area, and bathrooms. The sand is great. The water is cold. Beautiful little beach. Well protected and not very busy most days. Dogs allowed (limited hours) most mornings which is a treat to watch.

I love this beach. Even when there is alot of people there is still enough room for every one. The only reason this isn't a 5 for me is because the beach is open until 9 but the bathroom is closed the min the lifeguard leaves. This isn't ideal for when we have kids. If they don't want to leave the bathrooms open then maybe a port a poty would be nice. Instead of us having to leave completely

I cannot rate the tour because, as with much of what we have tried to see on this trip, it's closed for the season. It's a pet-friendly destination where dogs can play in the waves and sand while you soak in stunning ocean views. Families can enjoy picnics on the grassy hillside, fly kites, or play frisbee. The area also offers a playground for children, basketball and tennis courts nearby. Visitors can rent kayaks or take tours along the waterfront and enjoy activities like paddleboarding.
Dog friendly beach in Portland! We love coming to this beach whenever we visit Portland to walk our dog. It’s a nice walk from Old Portland and dogs can be off leash. Note that dogs are only allowed early morning and after 5pm (or 4?) though between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Stella L — Google review
I did not attend the beach but did go to the area to the northwest with the boat launch and Rocky area. The boat launch looks to be in very good condition and an easy place to launch a boat. Minimal parking right close but there is a trailer parking place close. The dock looks to be fairly large once you do launch your boat you should be good. 1 hour parking for cars right beside it also.
Musclecarlvr — Google review
Small beach 🏖️ with many amenities. Public restrooms, boat ⛵ launch, kayak, canoe 🛶 and paddle board rentals and duck 🦆 boat access. You can visit via the Eastern Promenade Trail or by vehicle. The beach is a mixture of sand and rocks but you should be able to enter the surf without water shoes.
Stephen P — Google review
The reviews online said dogs were allowed, but it's more complicated than that: according to the sign posted when we went, dogs were NOT allowed on the beach from 9-5 between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Apparently they are allowed other times? The beach itself is small, part sandy and part rocky. Fairly clean. Water is cold, as you'd expect. Shallow water and low waves make it good for wading.

Great beach. Dog friendly. There are kayak rental and tours, a great running/multipurpose trail that runs along the waterfront. There is a small train that drives along the shore line. Great parking and accessibility.

June 2023 - with so much rain this Spring, we had to get out and walk on the rare occasion of a nice evening. Even with a heavy haze the views are still spectacular. We enjoy sitting and watching the dogs play after 5 PM. BEACH? No, don't come looking for a huge stretch of sandy beach and swimming. It's a small beach area. People come here for the views, the trail, the activities (kayak, boarding, train ride, food trucks). If you're looking for a beach to lounge on all day, head for Old Orchard Beach or Willard Beach or any of the options nearby. 2021 - Each time I walk or ride the Eastern Prom trail and visit East End Beach, I am reminded why so many people come to visit Maine.

Our Airbnb host recommend that we park here and walk the Eastern Promenande trail. It's a beautiful trail that leads into Portland. Definitely worth the stop
Nichole C — Google review
What a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the sea. There is something for everyone whether you want to watch the sail boats, walk the beach and surrounding area or want to take your dog for a walk. There are nearby hills which make the views even better. You will find plenty of room to space out.

From astronomy shows and educational lectures to evening courses, visitors can enjoy a diverse selection of planetarium presentations suitable for all ages. The dome theater provides an immersive setting for traditional stargazing shows as well as thrilling adventures that transport viewers to distant planets and beyond.
I loved this so much. I brought my 10 month old for something to do. Barely did research and knew what we were in for. I’m excited to go back next week now. I loved the retro feel personally. I know some have written about it being old but that was appealing to me. John was awesome and super knowledgeable. We honestly had the best time.

Had an awesome time, went to see The Cowboy Astronomer. Staff was very friendly, and informitive. We showed up abit before our reserved show time, and got to talk with the host for a bit. Even started a little eariler because there wasn't a show before us. Kids had a blast, and you can't take your family out to the movies for $85. They also have some very well done art in the lobby area as well.
Vexxiel W — Google review
My kids had a stellar experience at the planetarium educational seminar! They were thrilled from start to finish. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging, making complex space concepts easy to understand for all ages. 🌌🔭 The interactive exhibits and hands-on activities had my children captivated and eager to learn more about the stars and planets. 🌠🪐 They especially loved the stunning visuals in the dome theater – they said it felt like we were actually traveling through space! A big shoutout to John for creating such an inspiring and educational environment. My kids are already asking when we can go back! 🚀🪐🌌

Such a hidden gem! Literally in the basement of one of the university buildings. I highly recommend seeing a show here! I loved the little tidbits of personal love for the cosmos our show guide shared with us. This really got my mind whirring with questions about the solar system. Very educational and entertaining shows!

A huge shout out to John! What a kind person you have working there. You took your time with us, gave us extra experiences and answered all of my son’s questions. We felt extremely lucky to have had you run our show! Thank so much for making sure we had a great time while we were there, It meant a lot to my family!

Friendly staff, fun show for the kids. I didn’t know what to expect and thought there would be more exhibits there, which was fine.
Bethany B — Google review
The dinosaur film that was shown when we went was old and corny. The latter portion of the show about stars was more entertaining. Best to check ahead the sked of showings so you can time your arrival. The guides were very friendly and helpful.
Rina S — Google review
The staff deserve 5 stars. The staff were super friendly and supportive. Everything else was 😳 yikes. The planetarium is located in the basement on the campus of USM. The show we watched was a spooky weird low quality laser show. The rest of the planetarium is a smelly hallway with some posters and a telescope.

Fort Allen Park is a 10-acre urban park with a rich historical background, offering stunning water views of Casco Bay and Fort Gorges. Originally built as a fort during the Revolution in 1775, it now provides seating areas, a gazebo, and various historical monuments. Visitors can enjoy walking trails, picnics, and summer concerts at the bandstand.
A fantastic place to walk, picnic, fly a kite, and/or enjoy the bay. A lot of warm weekends have food trucks and this is the only dog friendly beach in the area. There's a mini train that you can ride on for a ticket fee. Plenty of parking and a view no matter where you are. Like history? Read all the plaques. Great info!

Gorgeous views over to the islands and of Fort gorges. Lots of spots to sit, relax and admire the views! Walk down to the waterfront and admire the Maine Narrow gauge train. Walk down the waterfront and to left and you’ll find some food trucks. A lovely place to wander in the beautiful weather. Very close to the cruise terminal

When in Portland, a must-do activity is the Lucky Catch Cruises. Embark on an exciting journey in Casco Bay and witness firsthand how lobstermen catch your dinner. The experience includes setting and pulling up a lobster trap, as well as learning about the area's history from the captain. Onboard experts like Greg and Caroline provide insights into lobster fishing while allowing guests to participate in various activities, including holding a live lobster.
Our tour was absolutely fantastic! The guide was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing not only the ins and outs of lobstering but also fascinating insights into the history of Maine and the various islands we passed along the way. The crew made sure everyone felt included and had a chance to participate in each activity, which made the experience even more special. I’ll definitely be recommending this to family and friends visiting Maine! 🦞
Rachel F — Google review
This is our first time to visit Main, so of course we wanted to experience catching lobster! We signed up with Lucky Catch, but 2 people took our spot on the boat and it left without us. That evening the captain called us and explained the mix up and offered us a lobster outing the next day and refunded our expense. I was very happy with the customer service. So we went the next day and had so much fun! We learned about lobsters, some history of the area and participated in setting and hauling in the traps. Our cruise didn't catch any lobsters of size, but they did have them available at a special boat price and deal with Portland Lobster Company to cook them for us. Don't miss this experience! Thank you Captain Peter and Suzanne!!!!
Karen W — Google review
This was an absolutely fantastic tour! We loved every minute of it and learned so much about lobsters — from their life cycle and habits to how they’re caught. It was such a hands-on experience getting to bait the traps, toss them into the water, and then see what came up! The tour guides were incredibly knowledgeable and engaging — one of them was even a former teacher, and you could tell by how well they explained everything and made it fun for everyone. At the end of the tour, we were able to buy lobsters we caught and then carry them to a local restaurant that steamed them and provided side dishes for a small fee. They were delicious! Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking for a fun, educational, and truly authentic coastal experience!
Jennifer G — Google review
HIGHLY recommend booking their lobster cruise! It was the highlight of our entire trip out to Maine! We learned so much about the lobstering process and got to be part of all of it! Plus, we were able to buy lobsters off the boat and take them to a local restaurant where they cooked them for us!
Michelle D — Google review
We had a phenomenal experience, catching lobsters, crabs, & a baby sculpin. Learned so much about the catching & release process. We were extremely lucky to have seen seals 🦭 & sea birds as well. Our guides were knowledgeable about the forts we passed as well. We got hands on experience with baiting, releasing crates & banding their claws.
Shan Y — Google review
This was by far my groups favorite thing we did on our trip. The weather was rainy but we still had so much fun. We walked away with knowledge of lobsters, a huge smile on our faces and soaking wet shoes. We had so much fun. The staff is amazing and make the experience what it is. We got to help bait traps, push traps back in the water, band lobsters and hold them. What a fun experience. We highly recommend this to anyone, rain or shine!!
Rikki M — Google review
We had a great time on our lobstering excursion with Lucky Catch Cruises. Captain Brian and Greg were very knowledgeable on the geography and wildlife in the area. They also were very friendly and professional. We got pull traps up, bait traps, and hold live lobsters. The hands on learning experience was memorable. On the way to the traps we saw light houses and seals. The staff made sure everyone on the boat was included in the excursion without pressuring anyone. I highly recommend joining Lucky Catch Cruises for a trip on the water if you are in Portland.

Lucky Catch Lobstering Cruise was an amazing experience! This was our first time in Maine. When you think of Maine, you also think LOBSTER! So after some research we found this. We had my grandmother who is in her 70s and two small children, and everyone had a blast! The captain and guide were very friendly, informative, and interactive. We felt safe the entire time, caught some lobster, saw all the sights, and had learned a lot about lobsters and other sea life. It was 10/10 experience and recommend!

Mailboat cruise was so beautiful and neat to see. Crew very nice. Smooth ride. Great way to spend a gorgeous day on the water for a great price. 3 1/2 hours!!! We stopped at 6 islands. Loved it.

We took a frigid trip across the bay to Peak's Island, we saw some great views along the way! As far as touring the water in the winter, this is your only option but it's cheap and runs frequently.

The Casco Bay Ferry to Peak’s Island was a delightful experience. We went during the off-peak so we were able to drive on board with no issues. The car ferry in April holds 20 cars so it is necessary to be mindful of the time when trying to make this trek. The staff are super courteous and have treats available for your furry friends. If you decide to park your car, everyone including pets with need a ticket. Driving all human passengers in the car will need a ticket.

Battery Blair, once the largest of all batteries, is a historic site with a rich military history. It housed two Breechloading Rifles on Disappearing Carriage Mounts and offered stunning views of the ocean. Although now reduced to a semi-maintained area, it still provides an interesting journey through its well-preserved concrete structure and historical markings. Visitors can walk around the site and learn about its past glory through posted history.
I might be a bit partial since we share a name, but this was an excellent informational journey while at the lighthouse. I had no idea how well fortified this part of the ocean was during both world wars. Very interesting read on the walls at Battery Blair! So crazy to think just how much larger the battery was before they filled it in with dirt and grass. Wish we had more time to visit more of the battery’s while we were there, but apparently this one is the largest anyways. Beautiful view from here! Recommend a stop off to read more about it!

Showing signs of its age, you can still walk on 🔝 top and around the site. History is posted which is great because I am a fan of history. I can only imagine (not 🐲 dragons) the 12" disappearing guns) that were kept here.

This picturesque reserve is home to charming ponds and diverse wildlife, making it an ideal spot for peaceful strolls. Nearby, the Stonegate Trails offer an expansive network of paths across over 100 acres of preserved forest and wetland, easily accessible from various points including Dyer Pond Road and Rockcrest Drive.
This place is gorgeous. We went for a 45 minute walk on a beautiful sunny winter day — the day after a snowstorm. So snow was clinging to nearly every branch of every tree. It was magical.

Good variety of woods, fields, and pond. Small rocky ocean access across the street. Small parking lot but sually not too busy. Dogs welcome (on leash mid day).

Cute little trail! Wear protection against ticks/mosquitos/biting flies though. It wasn't terrible, but any ticks are bad ticks. That caveat given, most hiking trails in Maine will have them, so not a surprise. Most of what I hiked was pretty well maintained. And it's always nice to see informative signs around trails, and especially important to see trail maps that tell you your location! I'll definitely be back.
Timothy D — Google review
Great hiking and birds, turtles , great blue herons, at the pond. My only concern is the dog owners who don't leash their dogs at the times they should. Some leave behind the gift of poop in a bag. No enforcement of leash laws at this time.

The hiking trail is very easy - great for people who can’t hike long distances or steep mountains. Not too much Wildlife occasionally a squirrel here or there. The trail is very easy to follow there are a lot of white signs marking where you are going. The trail runs in the loop from the parking lot so you can easily find your way back to your car. There are maps throughout the trail so you can easily find your way out. Beware - this area has a great amount of ticks so make sure to check yourself carefully after you get off of the trail.
