Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, spanning 9,125 acres along the border of Kennebunk and Wells, is a natural sanctuary dedicated to preserving the salt marshes and estuaries of the Seacoast Region. With eleven divisions between Kittery and Cape Elizabeth, it provides habitats for over 250 bird species. The refuge offers hiking trails through diverse ecosystems, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts to observe wildlife in their natural habitats.
This was a great place to stretch your legs and see nature. The path was clear and some was boardwalk. The fall is a beautiful time to go. We went the full loop and took us less than an hour. Flat, easy walk. And did you know Rachel Carson is on a 17cent US postage stamp?

4.20.25 This is a very easy walking trail that's great for small children and older folks. You can't get lost as you follow the enclosed walking path. The views are very pretty. Sneakers are perfect for this stroll. There are bathrooms on the premises. That is, 2 rooms with toilets, no sinks. Parking is tight on busy days.
Margaret H — Google review
Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge is a great place to enjoy scenic views, hiking, wildlife, and the outdoors. It was established in 1966 to protect salt marshes and estuaries for migratory birds. There is a visitor center and a hiking trail here for all to enjoy for fee. The Carson trail is an easy one-mile hike with 11 interpretive sites. The trail is mostly flat, is wide, and is easy to follow. It's pretty much good for everyone. Along the route you will enjoy scenic views of the surrounding area. It's a very beautiful spot. There is a small visitor center here as well. It offers a few displays and panels about the life of environmentalist Rachel Carson. An expanded visitor center with interactive displays would be a great idea for this spot. Rachel Carson did a lot to improve the environment and there should more information presented about her life here. Take some time to enjoy this beautiful wildlife refuge.

Really lovely and easy walking path. It's well maintained and a good distance and makes a full loop. There are some facilities near the parking lot. We were here in June and we're able to get a decent amount of birding in. The back half of the Interpretive Trail has a nice viewing area that's worth sitting and watching for a bit.
April N — Google review
It’s a great walking spot with well defined trail and scenic overlooks. It’s also an easy trail and maybe wheelchair accessible also. I can’t say for sure but the trail is wide and is not rocky. If you are looking for a quick trail with nice scenery this is the perfect spot.
Evelyn C — Google review
This short boardwalk is a nice respite. You can see the ocean in the distance and walk along the estuary. The facilities and signs are a bit outdated but the trail is in good condition.
Maria M — Google review
This is a lovely, easy walk with great views. I’ve returned on most of my annual visits. It’s dog friendly and there are always pleasant people on the trail. I highly recommend if you are just looking for an easy stroll. Also, it’s free!

Absolutely, love this walk. It's not very long, but it is very cute. And the photos you can take our amazing there

Wells Reserve at Laudholm is a conservation center that offers a variety of outdoor experiences. With seven miles of hiking trails, visitors can explore woodlands, wetlands, and saltwater marshes while enjoying birdwatching and beach walks. The reserve is open year-round, allowing for activities such as walking, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Although some facilities may be closed due to the pandemic, the diverse flora and fauna make it an excellent destination for a day trip.
Outstanding area of natural beauty with well-maintained trails. The beach area was worth skipping, as the nice sandy area is private land, but the woodland walks were great and there was plenty of wildlife to see. Beware of mosquitoes (even with bug spray, I still got quite a few bites) and bring some snacks. The lobster art exhibit is well worth seeing too.

Drakes Island Beach is a family-friendly destination with seasonal lifeguards, public parking, and stunning sunset views. It's a popular spot for surfing, body boarding, and exploring tidal pools during low tide. The Wells Beach area also includes Moody Beach, Crescent Beach, and Footbridge Beach. Visitors can enjoy miles of sand dunes, sea grass, tidal inlets, and salt marshes.
First time visiting this beach. We got here while the tide was mostly low and beach front was wide and expansive. Its a sandy beach, tightly packed and lovely for swimming. Water today was amazingly warm for the Maine coast! Municipal parking was plentiful and costs 5.00 an hour by pay by plate kiosk. Parking area also has a bathroom with a flush toilet and running sink. Short walk to the beach. Beach chairs recommended as sand is wet even when tide is out. Beach front at high tide is very minimal. Life guard on duty. A clean beautiful public beach.

When wife and I are in Wells Maine, we go to Drakes island beach! Great beach, plenty of space, we just love it!

A very nice area for sure however not the greatest beach. Looks like a good area to fish from shore.

Beautiful beach. Dogs allowed now to walk off leash. Not crowed.
Creda B — Google review
Gorgeous scenic beach with a pretty jetty that you can walk on (just be careful obviously) we enjoyed spending time here for a couple days on our vacation to Wells Beach. Water was too cold for me even in end of August, but still lots of people swimming. Definitely check it out!
L G — Google review
This is such a beautiful, radical, and jazzy place to visit! I happened to come at the perfect time right before it got to busy, but not too cold either👌. Wow this beach is so clean compared to those of the West Coast, and even some on the East Coast too. I spent an entire day here, and I could spend many more. Without a doubt my new favorite beach spot! 😌
Ethan U — Google review
The freezing weather only contributed to this places beauty. I was amazed!!! Out of season was probably the best time to see it all.
Regina K — Google review
Get there early if you want to find parking. The parking ticket machine always maxes the time to 5pm and cost $20. They really jam pack the cars, so make sure park in ana area to get out easily. The kids love finding crabs under the rocks. The water is way too cold for swimming but some brave folks go deep into the water. We will be back!

Miniature golf course
Wonder Mountain Fun Park is a popular amusement park located just minutes from Wells in Moody. It offers a variety of family-friendly attractions, including two 18-hole mini-golf courses with water features and caverns, a giant maze, go-karts, and an indoor arcade with numerous games. The go-karts provide an exhilarating experience as they are electric and noiseless but still fast. Families can enjoy the thrill of racing on the go-karts or embark on a treasure hunt in the maze.
Cool place, with so much to do! The mini golf course was challenging and fun, many of the holes had an optional game where you spin for an additional possible challenge on that hole (putt behind your back, etc…) it made for a really fun game. You can buy a package and also do the maze and go karts, we did all the three and had a blast. There’s a pretty large arcade room inside with clean bathrooms and outside has a rock mining machine where you can sift through sand and water to get some beautiful rocks.
Christina M — Google review
We looked around the arcade room, and watched kids on the go cart track (looked like the kids had fun)... We however, played mini golf on both of the 18 holes courses multiple times during our stay in Wells. This was the nicest part of our vacation.
Randall H — Google review
Had an absolute blast and we went without the kids! We loved the options to do all 3 of the attractions the go karts really get up and go!!!
Gabby D — Google review
Mini golf at it's best! Two long courses plus tons of other games, go carts and more. Ignore the high prices...you're on vacation!
Scott W — Google review
Giving 4 stars only because not all attractions were open to us to experience. However what we did experience was charming. A fun stop for kids of all ages!
Cynthia M — Google review
Two 18-hole mini golf courses wrapped around an artificial mountain with a cave and waterfalls, pretty cool. Outdoor maze, they rearrange the walls every month or two so you might not get the same route next time. Go-kart track. And you can buy bags of dirt for a chance to find a gemstone once you soft it through their outdoor sieves. Supposedly there is also an indoor arcade but it was closed when we went there for the last weekend of the season. They close in mid October, reopen sometime in the Spring.
David M — Google review
We booked online for 7 of us, including 3 adults, 2 seniors, one junior and a toddler along with a cabana near the wave pool. We were initially very disappointed that the wave pool was closed, we were told because of a pipe break that occurred a week ago, and no notice of it being closed was posted on their website and we were really looking forward to that feature. Nonetheless, we went down a bunch of slides and went around the Lazy River several times. The lines were reasonably short so we got to go as many times as we wanted. We ordered food while in the cabana and we were very glad we booked it because one of us was able to bring the toddler there for a nap and we had privacy to change and eat our food in comfort and peace. All in all a very positive experience.
David E — Google review
Very beautiful golf course. The holes are simple but yet challenging. It is great for families who are looking for something to do in the Ogunquit/Wells area. There are two different courses you can choose from. Both of them are pretty much the same, but they have different views. They also have different attractions besides golf but I didn't go to any of them.

Moody Beach, located in the Wells Beach area of Maine, is a popular spot for sunbathing and water activities. The mile-long stretch features mostly private homes with limited facilities. The beach connects to neighboring areas like Ogunquit's North Beach and Footbridge Beach. Visitors can enjoy walking along the sandy shore, although it can get crowded near public parking areas. Despite some private property restrictions, there are sections open to the public for a fee.
One of the best beaches in southern Maine! We've been coming here for decades. Last winter's storms did beat the shoreline, but the beach was the flattest it's been in years.
Kindred W — Google review
Easy to park, clean restrooms, super nice beach. Great location, and the sand and water were perfect. Loved it...
T B — Google review
Loved the beach. Visited 1 hour before low tide, approx 9am. Beach was surprisingly as wide as Florida gulf coast beaches. Great walking beach - no shells or rocks. Paid parking. Water was crystal clear - I only went in up to my knees. Dog friendly (last week of September).
Gina T — Google review
Since it was a beautiful sunny day on Sunday, Oct 1st, 2023, I went to Moody Beach in Maine. I paid $6 an hour to park there, and we enjoyed the outdoor foot shower and bathrooms at the parking lot. When we walked up to the beach, we saw the large sign that said dogs were prohibited. So we were really surprised by how many dogs we saw, including at least 5 dogs off leash running up to me as well as children. The owners just sat in their beach chairs watching. Even the owners with leashed dogs were overwhelming! I was just trying to walk towards Footbridge Beach, and I kept having to slow down and wait for groups of owners with 5 to 8 dogs to disband since they were congregating and making it awkward to pass. I dont like being that close to groups of dogs getting hyper meeting each other, sometimes growling. It's scary for some of us! So apparently there's another small sign on a different post that says Dogs Allowed September 9 to March 31st, but we didn't see it. I asked someone with a leashed dog why so many dogs, especially unleashed dogs, were on the beach? He said dogs were allowed on the beach as of September 9th. He said, "Why don't you find another beach?" If I have to pay parking until the end of October, I don't think dogs should be allowed during that time. Then if dogs are allowed off season, they should do a better job posting that AT THE PARKING LOT. And have a sign saying they have to be leashed! And why not have a separate dogs only beach that is clearly marked and enables all of us to enjoy the beaches comfortably?
Helen V — Google review
Well it was nice to see the ocean, but ... I felt like we were under surveillance if I picked up a shell or something. The beach should belong to everyone.
Kenneth S — Google review
One of my favorite beaches! Moody beach is a private beach but there’s a section for the public. Parking lot is at the end of Ocean Ave. Parking is $4 hourly or $25 for the day.

Spiller Farm, located in Wells, Maine and run by the Spiller family since 1894, offers a delightful U-pick experience. In the summer, visitors can pick raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, and an array of vegetables like eggplant, peppers, and summer squash. As fall sets in, the farm becomes abundant with ripe apples and pumpkins for picking.
Great place to visit during a beautiful Fall afternoon. Apple picking was fantastic (lots of delicious ripe apples). Stopped by in mid September expecting scant fruit and instead they already had trees brimming with 3 to 4 varieties of apple as well as a few end-of-season peaches and plums. They prefer cash but do accept venmo. You pay apples by the peck and the rest by weight. The woman working the farm stand was very kind and overall we had a great time. Highly recommend a stop!

Incredible pick your own produce! We spent 2 hours gathering fruits and veggies and it was so fun. Highly highly highly recommend. SUPER affordable too!!!! Will be back!
Daniele A — Google review
We are visiting Maine and decided we wanted to support a local farm, looked online and hours said they were open. Showed up around 11:30am when we got in and parked there were many employees driving around on golf carts. Many drove by us, but no one said anything. Before we started doing anything my husband approached an older man to ask if they were open or what we needed to do. And the older employee was very rude and said they do not open until 1pm (which I guess was posted on a small piece of paper somewhere at the front). I understand online hours being wrong, but I do not understand why the employees have to be rude to customers. Kindly saying they aren’t open when they passed us when we got there could have been a better way to approach that or when a customer asks maybe change the attitude could also be a way to improve customer service.
Corrine W — Google review
Such a fun place! Tons of rotating fruit and vegetables, lovely owner, and family vibes all around. Got some great recipes for the beet greens we got.

Great strawberry picking today. In 20 yards I filled a flat of berries! I was there from 10-10:45 lots of good berries!

Completely unreliable !!!! Awful service for customers! Planned our whole day today after looking on their website ! Hours change that is understandable, however , not changing same day! we arrived at 11 and the sign said U pick 1-5 ! we return again from york at 1:22 and the sign says NOT TODAY , apparently it was changed. we frequent this establishment and they do not care about a car full of pickers on a beautiful day! will not return !!

A really awesome experience. I never knew so many apples could grow on one tree! Right when I thought I had finished walking the orchard, I realized I had only done the smallest portion. This is a great and cheap adventure. It would be a great thing to do with or without kids.

Beautiful area to kayak, hike, sunbathe, and get a meal at one of the restaurants on this peninsula. There is a dog and kid friendly beach on the marsh as well as small boardwalk, a playground, charcoal grills and open roofed areas and pick nick tables. It would be a great location for a child's birthday party. They do host community events on the stage and in the gazebo. I attended a native american pow wow there once. We visit often when our dog.

Old Marsh Country Club, situated in Wells, Maine, is an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Brian Silva as a tribute to the classic stylings of C.B. Macdonald and Seth Raynor. GOLF Magazine has recognized it as one of the Top 10 Best in America. The course offers a great layout and is well-maintained, with friendly staff and excellent practice facilities.
The Atlantic Pines Golf Club at Old Marsh is now open and better than before. Within the Wells/Kennebunk area, golf is limited to 2 highly overpriced golf courses that are traditional, unassuming and not very challenging. The Atlantic Pines Golf Club is different. It’s beautiful, and challenging with plenty of water and marshes. Playing the course is far from routine as it has target landing areas, beautiful distant views, and some holes with 90 degree dog legs. Most of all, it’s fairly priced without over the top greens fees. As I’m from Philly, Maine has some of the most expensive greens fees (must be the short season). I had the pleasure of being checked in by Jack, a family member of the new owners. He explained the course has change hands and is now owned by his family who have deep roots locally. He sounded excited to bring the course to its full prime potential and to serve the local community. We saw vast amounts of crew working on improving the golf course and club house. I definitely believe they will hit it out of the park. As the golf course is in great condition now, I can only expect this golf course will become the premier club in the Wells / Kennebunk area. Definitely give the course a try and ask for Jack. It’s a great story. You won’t be disappointed.

Played here 7/10/24, this was the nicest course in the area last year, I was very excited to come back and play it again this year and it was very disappointing. 120$ a person and every fairway and green was either burn and dead, there were huge divot marks in 2 of the greens as if someone hit an iron shot off the green, a different 4 greens had rough patches and they were very slow. bunkers were full of grass and rocks and tee boxes were terrible as well. pro shop had very little to offer and beverage cart only accepts cash. very underwhelming and will not be returning. called the pro shop after i returned home and all they had to say was “okay thanks”

This course is a joke… first of all we were told 60$ on the phone with cart included. Clearly that was just to get us there. Show up at 7 am and it’s 85$ to play on this dog track!! Fairways are dry and rock hard…. sand traps … well can’t even tell if it’s a sand trap or not… greens are carpet… most are decent but there’s definitely a handful that are completely garbage. Cart are clunky and outdated… brake wouldn’t work on mine… that was fun… one good thing.. they had many outhouses on the course. Only problem with them…. Is there was about 135 flies in the top buzzing around your head. This place is highly under renovations which I get it.. but 85$ is the biggest rip off in golf… I mean the pro shop didn’t even have their shelves full. Like they are moving in… this is one course I’ll never return to. Edit update…. Thank you for responding to my review but your comments are only valid if you aren’t charging top rate prices for a course that isn’t as good as South Portland municipal which you pay 18$ to play. 85$ is biggest rip off in the state…. You admitted all the renovations and stop charge more than Willowdale which was in better condition April!!

9/30/25 First time playing this course and will 110% be playing here again! Amazing owners, great employees and even better grounds crew. New ownership is working extremely hard to get this course to its highest potential! I was told fairways were a C-, however after getting there I can say they were a solid B- and didn’t upset me or my group! A great round of 18 holes was played and I will definitely recommend this course to people in the future. Can’t wait to see how awesome it’ll look next year! Ignore all these negative reviews, this place is awesome!
Conor B — Google review
First, I like the layout. Several unique holes for sure! The greens were in good shape-some burnt out areas but generally not in play with careful pin position. Fairways not so good. I know you are working hard on them and should be quite good when they recover. Biggest complaint is the excessive number of traps, and the difficulty we had entering and exiting them. The steep borders were tough on those with bad knees. Long stretches with no breaks in those steep borders. Overall we had a good day and will be back.
Bob C — Google review
Course is in great condition! Played today 10/2. Greens are perfect, traps awesome, fairways real good considering drought and previous maintenance issues in last few years, but overall a great track and getting back to a premier track in southern Maine. Great value.
Michael L — Google review
I understand that it’s under new ownership and perhaps they will turn it around but - it’s the worst golf course I have ever played in my life. I have never seen tee boxes or fairways on that poor of shape. Somehow the greens were in decent shape and quite challenging but man- I’m not exaggerating when I say that if your drive lands in the middle of the fairway you are more likely to be lying in dirt than grass.
John W — Google review
We played here on 7/13/2024 with high hopes as one in our group played here last year and raved about it. However, it was extremely disappointing. Every. Single. Hole was brown/had dead grass through the majority of the fairway and greens. These photos do not clearly illustrate how poorly kept the course was as I decided to take these when we were 3/4 done with our round because I was so frustrated with the state of things. For a course that is charging $90 (plus cart) on a Saturday, I expected WAY more. In comparison, this year we have played Samoset, Spring Meadow, Sunday River, Dunegrass and Bridgton-Highlands to name a few. None of the courses we played this year were anywhere close to the condition that Old Marsh was. Not to mention, we played in 88+ degree heat with 70% humidity and there was no water on the course and no cart girl. I don’t think I’ll be returning any time soon which is too bad because I can see the potential that the course could have.

returned to the park recently for the first time in many months, pouring rain, counted on having the place to ourselves, and we did. bullie happily recovered a sadly weathered ballie she lost one of the last times we were there, so we played mudball in the rain, walked the circuit, then headed back up the road a ways to the little observation platform across from the catch to scout marsh birds. saw none (we egret to inform that no herons were dumb enough to be out in the rain…), then circled back to the waterfront. there’s a little ship’s bell there, mounted on a granite pillar overlooking the beach, placed in remembrance of those whose lives were taken on 9/11. you're invited to honor your own remembrances, and i do. we make our ritual visit to the bell before leaving the park. bullie waits while i offer up the same simple prayer as always because i’m not original--a prayer for the planet and the ones i love, for the ones who’ve hurt me, for the ones i’ve lost. sound the bell one, two, three times, ring good intentions into the world. may they find a hardened heart and soften it to kindness. love this little park * * * i haven't been since midsummer, but this is such a pretty little harbor. i miss visiting it. bullie loves the park. this is one of the last photos i took there, just before sunset, panning towards the head of the harbor. maps' file compression will ruin it but you get the idea. so peaceful

Congdon's Doughnuts is a family-owned establishment that has been serving delicious breakfast and fresh doughnuts since 1955. Their menu features a variety of mouthwatering flavors, including apple fritters, maple bacon fritters, chocolate twists, Bavarian creme, and honey dip. In addition to their delectable pastries, they also offer breakfast fare and brunch cocktails.
THE BEST DONUTS!!! Worth the hype. Truly loved with filling, especially the chocolate, maple and powder filled donuts. So so so good. Long line but moves quick! Friendly service. Reasonable prices. The dough is incredible too. Worth the hype. Even got dog donuts!! Went to the food trucks at Congdon’s after dark as well and had the best chicken wrap with live music. 10/10 recommend

Ordered online the evening before for 0700 pick up. Arrived and walked past the line inside to the pick up counter. Employee searched for order but could not find them on the shelf. She ended up just grabbing a box and getting the donuts for me. Not a very efficient system in my opinion. The fritters (blueberry and maple bacon) were both good. The raspberry filled donut was a bit disappointing. Not much jelly inside, and it seemed more compote like than actual. The actual donut itself was really good. I think next time I would skip the fancier donuts and go with the basics. Actually stopped back by 10 minutes before they closed because it was so busy in the morning I didn’t actually get to see the donuts and other pastry options. My order from the morning was sitting on the shelf all by itself. I did inform the employee that they had already been picked up earlier that morning.

We used the drive through. We got an orange cranberry scone, blueberry fritter and a maple square( this was the most decadent maple thing we have ever eaten! The biscuit sandwich and a bagel with egg, bacon and cheese. All of it was amazingly delicious!!! Way more than expected! Best breakfast sandwiches we have ever had in fact! Thank you for the deliciousness!
Trish O — Google review
I always review things based on the price I pay! At $2.79 per donut and $34 for a bakers dozen (13), they needed to be close to perfect. Donuts (raised and filled) were standard, nothing to be too excited about, but the fritters were excellent (they were sold out of their signature donut, the blueberry fritter, when I ordered at 10:30 AM so I can’t speak to that). Apple was fantastic. There’s also a nice shaded seating area to enjoy. They had a sweet employee who came by to offer complimentary donut holes. Overall I’d recommend it but if you’re more cost conscious you might not think so.

I still am thinking about these donuts a week later. Almost convinced my husband to stop off the highway on our ride back to NYC from Portland just to pick up these donuts. Best donut I’ve ever had. My husband arrived around 8AM on a Saturday morning and waited in line for about 30 minutes. Go early!! Favorite donut was the white cream chocolate frosted. Homemade and delicious, fresh — highly recommend.

Big fans of these donuts! We’re from out of town, and this unassuming shop blew us away. Very fast, even though there was a line when we got there. And the rise on the yeast donuts was incredible—I ate mine before I could get a photo!

Steak house
Restaurant
The Steakhouse, located at 205 Post Rd in Wells, is a long-standing favorite for traditional steak dinners and surf 'n' turf options. Despite past concerns about long waits and a noisy atmosphere, recent visitors have found it to be a great choice for satisfying carnivorous cravings.
Well worth the wait. We waited about 90 minutes on a Saturday night but grabbed a drink at the bar and sat outside. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. The food was really good I got 2 of the crab stuffed lobster tails which were incredible and a great price. I also recommend the white sangria as you wait!
Miranda D — Google review
I once read a review of a Manhattan restaurant where the reviewer said it was too loud. The owner said if you want a quiet place to eat go to Maine. He obviously wasn’t referring to The Steakhouse. The decibel level in this place would rival the old Boston Garden. It’s just awful, especially if you have some drunken hillbillies sitting near you. This restaurant is popular for sure. The food, we had two petite filets, is fine but nothing to write home about. The service is very good but the servers are so busy you feel rushed just ordering your meal. I know you can’t eat atmosphere but the noise level is so high it gave me ajita just sitting there. Would never go back. More like eating in a steak factory.
J W — Google review
We were looking forward to a delicious steak dinner. The wife's tenderloin with stuffed lobster tail was cooked as ordered, and she enjoyed her meal. Unfortunately, my dinner was very disappointing. I started with a cup of beef barley soup, and it was delicious. It was the best beef barley soup I have ever eaten! I then ordered a 14 oz ribeye steak (MEDIUM) with broiled scallops, beans, and house potato. When our server put my plate in front of me, my wife and I both looked at each other and said how thin the ribeye was, and we both said I bet it is well done. We were right. The ribeye was well done, as you can see into the picture. I ordered it medium. When our server, who was excellent, I showed her my well-done ribeye. She transferred the ribeye to another plate to take to the kitchen and have a new one cooked. While waiting for the new steak, I ate my beans, which were excellent! My broiled scallops were overdone and a bit chewy. My new ribeye arrived, and it was much thicker than the previous one and was a good-looking cut. Unfortunately, it was cooked rare. I ordered my ribeye medium. Our server came back and said she would have them cook it some more. At this point, I said to the server that I did not want it cooked more. I said they had 2 opportunities to get it right, and I did not want to continue to wait, and my wife had finished eating her meal for quite some time now. Our server said she would have the ribeye removed from our bill. We decided to try the blueberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. It was not very good and I would not recommend it. In closing, our server Tristan was excellent, my wife's meal was excellent, the beef barley soup and baked beans also excellent. Unfortunately, with 2 opportunities, my ribeye was not cooked to the right temp either time. Ordered medium, first try was well done, second try was rare. I expected better temping from a Steakhouse. Even though my ribeye was taken off the bill after trying to get it cooked medium twice and not cooked to right temp twice, I left only eating my side dishes. Very disappointed.

Pretty expensive but "when you want to be good to yourself," give The Steakhouse a shot! The venue itself is pretty nice. We ended up with about a 40 minute wait but they had a bar upstairs and a waiting area so you could enjoy some drinks while you wait, which is a great idea for patrons AND for the restaurant to make money. One of the bartenders has worked there more than TWENTY years, and she's great at what she does. We were able to try out various cocktails like the Rhubarb Refresher, Painkiller, and Pink Drink, all of which were pretty damn good and not too cloyingly sweet. Everything we had was pretty darn good here! Enjoyed the appetizers and entrees... everything had so much flavor! We had mussels, French onion soup, filet mignon, the signature Wagyu cut, sirloin, scallops, boneless wings (surprisingly good even plain, as they actually did something with the batter I can't put my finger on), applesauce (not normal, it was more of a cobbler filling which was great!), creme brulee, and chocolate and peanut butter pie! Strangely enough, small gripe, but the Wagyu cut was not as seasoned as the filet mignon which I found weird, but it was still an enjoyable, juicy steak. It is a bit loud and crowded in here but that's to be expected. Lots of older folks of affluence. Staff was excellent and super friendly! Definitely worth the splurge at least once!

We picked this restaurant for the lobster dinner and they did not disappoint! There was a wait time for our group of 9, but they had a nice waiting area set up for people. The food was delicious, and our waiter was top tier!!

Went here for our Anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. The wait was not to long as we came during the off season. I did like how they have a waiting area and you can order a drink and watch sports while waiting. We both got the surf and turf hubby got his with 2 crab cakes and chili and fries for the sides. The crab cakes were the best he has ever had. I had the scallops with chili and baked potato. Lets just say this is one restaurant we will be coming back to.
Bianca L — Google review
My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner here. Throughout our time on our three week vacation, this was the best meal that we had, we both agreed! We were pretty indecisive on where we wanted to eat, as "The Lost Fire" restaurant was also a place we wanted to stop. We settled on The Steakhouse instead. Definitely was a great pick. As soon as we pulled up, being a Thursday, the parking lot was pretty full with only a couple spots open. For me, a good sign that the food won't disappoint! The Steakhouse was a barn at one point which makes it a three story building!! When you get the menu, there's a brief history of how this restaurant came to be and why it's in a Barn. Trust me, it's a pretty nice barn inside!! Lots of character. Of course, it being a steakhouse that's what I ordered. That being a 24 oz Ribeye (Which was the chefs cut for the day) along with onion, peppers and mushrooms. My sides were rice pilaf and pasta with meat sauce. My wife got a surf and turf. Petite filet with lazy lobster. And she loved both of them. Her side being Cottage Cheese with a pear and BBQ baked beans. She really loved the beans!!! Oh boy. Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of the French Onion Soup that I had ordered before my steak but that too was very delicious. The steaks, in my opinion, we're of great quality! Because of this, they were not salted too much but I think just enough to allow all that great, natural, beefy flavor! Very impressed. Thank you very much to "The Steakhouse" for a wonderful evening for my wife and I.
Antonio R — Google review
I enjoy the food here but beware of the lobster stew scam. At over $10 for a cup, you would expect a full pour. This is how my “cup” of stew came out to my table. I immediately asked the waiter about it and he claimed he would discuss with the manager. He never did discuss with the manager so I asked the manager myself about it and she was flippant. I am a regular but feel slighted after this visit. I understand premium pricing but fill the damn cup!

The attentive and friendly service adds to the overall appeal of this exquisite establishment. This was such an incredible discovery. The atmosphere is so classy and cozy. Every dish was out of this world. We had the duck and chicken dishes followed by crème brûlée and key lime pie and a couple of pomegranate cosmos. Just spectacular, every dish. They have their own homemade organic bread. The Best of the Best. We visited Joshua's for the first time on July 28th during Covid-19. It was a hot evening, but their outside tent was perfect. Carpeting on the floor, lights, flowers, mosquito netting, and fans made the space elegant and romantic. The tables were spaced out so it felt very private. The waitress, Savannah, was outstanding...professional, friendly and efficient. Cocktails were served and then our food began to arrive. From the incredible bread basket to the appetizers of chicken skewers and the most amazing tomato salad with buratta and their own farm fresh tomatoes, we knew we were in the right place. We had the lamb and salmon for entrees and both were presented and cooked to perfection. The flavors were exquisite. We finished the meal with creme brulee and homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream in which you could taste the fresh mint used to make it. Joshua's was truly one of the best meals we had ever eaten and will definitely be a must to do when in Wells, Maine. This is a special place.

Joshua's is the best restaurant we've eaten at in Maine. We try to get there twice during our short visit each spring. I order the fish special; my husband gets a meat dish. Both are always delicious. Tonight, we added salad and dessert. Wait staff were, as always, friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself takes you back to a time when things were made to last and quality in everything mattered. Thank you, Joshua's!! 10. 28.20 Came back for more! Everything as superb as ever - and in a socially distant environment. Perfection. 5.26.21 Eating at Joshua's really makes our vacation. I called a week in advance to get reservations for two nights. I had salmon and haddock; my husband had the filet and rack of lamb. Salad and mushrooms before the entres, and the first night, we treated ourselves to the key lime pie for dessert. The wait staff, as always, was delightful. I will dream about these meals until we return next year. Totally divine - every last morsel! Thank you, Joshua's! 10.21.21 Yes, we happily returned to Wells and Joshua's. Tonight, my husband had the filet and I had the salmon. Aren't they stunning? I had to restrain myself long enough to take photos before diving in. Unfortunately, neither one of us had that discipline when the Caesar salad and shrimp appetizer arrived. Everything, right up to the keylime pie and coffee, was once again out of this world. Thank you, Lily, for your great service and wonderful memory!!

My wife and I had an exemplary dining experience last evening at Joshua's. Due to a shortage of staff, the restaurant is operating at less than half capacity. We were lucky to be able to score a reservation when we called more than two weeks ago. We were warmly greeted at the door by one of the owners. Heather, our server, was exceptional and added much to the pleasure of the experience. She was attentive and efficient without being overbearing. Her smile was infectious. Heather was very knowledgeable about the menu items and about the restaurant itself, offering us interesting tidbits of information over the course of the evening. Oh yes, the food!! Gormet and exceptional do not adequately describe the delicious appetizer and entrees. My wife savored the Vegetarian, while I relished the delectable Swordfish dish. The fresh vegetable medley could have been an entree in itself! The restaurant is not inexpensive, but it's a treat well worth the cost.

Nestled at the intersection of Route One and the access road to Moody Beach, Spinnakers Seafood Restaurant is a delightful seasonal spot that caters to seafood lovers and families alike. Known for its mouthwatering lobster rolls, guests can indulge in generous portions of chilled lobster meat served on a toasted roll, with options for warm butter or zesty aioli dips. The menu boasts an array of fresh seafood dishes alongside Maine craft beers and wines, making it a perfect stop after a day at the beach.
My spouse and I thoroughly enjoyed dining at Spinnaker's, especially since they offered a dedicated gluten free menu. It is very hard to find a restaurant with dedicated fryers and prep stations for gluten free diners. The majority of food on the menu can be made gluten free, which is a huge plus!!! When we went to order, they asked immediately if anyone in our party was gluten intolerant and it made ordering much smoother. The food and service was delicious. The gluten free chicken tenders were to die for and perfectly made. The fried shrimp were plump and well made. The service was fast and friendly. We would certainly go back. 😁

Best fries for miles hands down. Fresh cut!!! Ordered a large and it was huge! Outside tables were very busy. Inside was very clean. They have red gold ketchup which is very disappointing so minus 1 star. (Terrible off brand ketchup that's cheaper then Heinz 57). Other then that place was nice.

Found this restaurant on a FB ad, and decided to make the drive out from our trip to Boston because their Gluten Free specialties. Out of our family of four, only the $40 Lobster roll which was thoroughly enjoyed. The crab roll had an off taste. The gluten-free shrimp platter was bland, the breading was soft and found hair on my shrimp. The chicken nuggets were basic, and nothing was seasoned at all. Best thing was the fries which were gluten free and fried separately.

This is not the same lobster roll I ate and reviewed two years ago. Two years ago it was good. This one was fantastic! A true gasm in your mouth. Fresh lobster obviously just caught and it was like John the fisherman himself delivered it to me fresh off the boat. I was worried about the lemon on top cause that’s normally to cover up sub par frozen lobster meat. This was not the case. Didn’t need the butter or teeth to eat. Was amazing! I will be back! Thanks fam for a fantastic lobster role experience I will not be soon to forget!

After waiting patiently for 25 minutes just to place my order, and another 15 to receive my order, i was stunned to receive my Caesar salad without any croutons and a packet of Ken’s dressing… $13 for lettuce and a few shavings of parm. When I went to management to inquire where my croutons were, I was treated very rudely and told that they don't serve croutons. When I said so, I paid $13 for essentially lettuce?? The response I received was, you didn’t even ask for croutons did you? I informed her that a Caesar salad always has croutons so no, I didn’t ask. She argued with me - very rude… My entire dinner Came to $66: lettuce, a side of coleslaw, whole clam bellies with nothing else and two lemonades. Do yourself a favor and skip this joke of a restaurant.

I have frequented Bo-Mar Hall since I was a young child. My father, an avid antique collector, still has a strong affinity for this establishment. Even now, as I bring my daughter along, it feels just as it did 30 years ago. The variety of merchandise is ever-changing, and the prices are typically fair. The thrill of stumbling upon that one sought-after collectible or hidden gem adds to the allure of visiting Bo-Mar.

I've been to this place many a time with my boyfriend. This is a multi-vendor store with everything from antiques, candles, trading cards, dvds, books, artwork, and more. You never know what you might find so it is hit or miss. We have encountered some unpleasant staff in the past, but also some great ones as well. Definitely worth a stop in to browse around.
Catherine P — Google review
A kind old man gave me a 5$ discount for this 1960s matchbox lesney unimog. I recommend going here as it's large and has a lot to chose from.
Jerome R — Google review
You can always find something here. Some booths are stocked full to the point you give up looking, but most are clean and organized. They also have some local products for sale. We always stop here on our Rt1 antique trip.
Heather G — Google review
What a nice place and it will bring you back. So much memorabilia. You can be there a while. A fun stop.

Very nice staff. A lot of the dealers went up in price even the smaller lot sellers. Second time we have been there and we're not able to buy. But lots of assortment best for collectors not so much for antique dealers

Good selection of things you saw at your Great Aunt Tilly's house. The memories are heartwarming. Good prices and a huge selection of blow molds to top it all off

Severely overpriced! Couldn't find anyone to help. Was interested in old vinyl but most are placed on the floor making it impossible to browse through a box.

Footbridge Beach is a picturesque and serene destination located in Ogunquit, New England. It features three miles of wide sandy beach that stretches from Main Beach to Footbridge Beach and North Beach. While it is smaller than the main Ogunquit Beach, it offers equally pristine white sand and gorgeous views. The beach is less crowded than its counterpart, making it an ideal spot for a calm and relaxing day by the shore.
An absolutely beautiful beach with a really cool wooden footbridge walkway to get to the beach. A good amount of paved parking also!
Cynthia F — Google review
Footbridge Beach is hands down one of the top beach destinations in Maine. With its long, wide stretch of soft sand and pristine cleanliness, it’s the perfect spot to relax, sunbathe, or take a scenic stroll. The beach is accessible by a short, picturesque walk across the self-titled footbridge, which opens up to a truly stunning coastal landscape. There’s ample paid parking nearby and while restroom facilities are on the smaller side, they get the job done. No dogs allowed. The only real downside? Navigating Route 1 traffic during peak “summah” can be a pain. But honestly, that’s a small price to pay for this beautiful, peaceful slice of Maine coast. Plan ahead, get there early, and enjoy one of the cleanest, most beautiful beaches in the state.
Ashton W — Google review
One of the better beaches besides old orchard the sand was really soft really just lacking a foot wash station otherwise perfect beach
Chris M — Google review
Off season this was the perfect place to take our dog! We met some lovely, very respectful people along the bridge as well. The views were fantastic (stunning really) and it was nice and quiet for a relaxing afternoon walk.

Great beach very clean beautiful sunset photo ops when I visited. Pay to park until 9pm

This is my favorite beach in Maine. The waves are great to ride, the sand is nice and soft and great to just lay down in, but I recommend going either early in the morning like around 9:00-9:30 AM, or late in the day like after 4:00-5:00 pm, or else you may not find a parking spot.

Movie theater
Flagship Premium Cinemas in Wells offers a top-notch movie experience with stadium seating and rewards for frequent visitors. The cinema provides super comfortable accommodations, including power recliners that can be reserved in advance. It showcases first-run movies and rotating films using high-quality digital projection technology and surround sound. Guests can also enjoy drinks, snacks, wine, or beer from the concession stand or on-site bar.
Clean, great staff, nice selection of movies and concessions! Pricey, like all cinemas with recliners, but we enjoyed our afternoon there.
Elizabeth Z — Google review
Attended a matinee on 9/13/25. Good: comfy chairs; theater was clean/tidy. Bad: movie previews WAY TOO LOUD!!! Complained to the girls behind the counter and was told there’s nothing they can do about it. Shocking how loud it was, I had to cover my ears with my hands, as did the person I was with. The movie itself was fine.
KportBroker — Google review
Clean, good sized theaters with fair pricing on concessions and tickets, as well as helpful staff.
Sean H — Google review
While small, this movie theater has great prices and comfy chairs. Great place to go when you need a break from the beach.
Joseph B — Google review
The seats were awesome! The matinee was virtually empty but the facility was top notch!
Robin F — Google review
The strip mall that it's located in is not the best. The actual theater itself is pretty clean. Seats are great! Definitely still has a older style screen in sound system but the recliners are some of the better that I've seen in theaters and I like how they have the layout of the theater
Matt ( — Google review
Comfortable seating and cozy theater to see Part 3 of Downton Abbey movie!
Cheryl L — Google review
I haven't been in a theater in several years and what a welcome and pleasant surprise this place was. I was expecting the old small seats all crammed together with little leg room, not too unlike economy airline seats. The seats are extremely comfortable, and adjustable with power controls- wow! And plenty of room on each side and in front as well. The theater was very clean, small with maybe 100 seats, so the screen was a great view for any one of them. The sound wasn't deafening like some I've been to. Concession was fully stocked and average prices for popcorn, drinks, etc. Good parking outside for everyone, and easily handicapped accessible.

The Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve in Maine covers 2,250 acres and includes the Webhannet River, Little River, and Ogunquit River estuaries. It boasts diverse landscapes such as salt marshes, beaches, wetlands, grasslands, and dense foliage. Visitors can explore historic 19th-century farm buildings that now house an auditorium, library, visitors center with exhibits, and research labs.
Great to view a range of marsh-dwelling birds such as Heron, Snowy and Great Egret, Plovers, and also see Harriers, Kingfishers and if very lucky a local Eagle.
Simon C — Google review
Great for sight seeing, photography, running, walking, even a little hidden beach!
Ashlee J — Google review
Beautiful path to the beach. Or if you want more than just beach views there are plenty of other trails around. A nice walk in the woods turns into a meadow filled with a good amount of butterflies and bees. No other place in southern Maine like it. I'm so grateful for it's preservation for everyone to enjoy.
Sarah K — Google review
This was great! This was one of my favorite places. We walked and explored each morning we were there. Saw different things each day. The beach was small and rocky but it was also interesting and beautiful. Off season is the time to venture here because it is probably so busy in the summer! Glad we got to see this amazing place. There is a lot to see.

We were in town for something unrelated, we just wanted somewhere to eat, and this place looked pretty and had picnic tables. There was a pumpkin scavenger hunt, and they offered us free hot cider 10/10 would come back again
Ben A — Google review
Parking is $6 per adult and $1 for children. Try to bring exact change as sometimes they don’t have change to give. There are a few walking trails here. Be sure to bring big spray for the really wooded area. The straight beach path is not very buggy and is just a 10 min walk to the beach!
Dan P — Google review
A great place to get out and enjoy nature. With a few trails to explore, including a nice walk along Drake's Island. The nature trails that take you into the woods are well marked and easy to follow but BEWARE OF TICKS. Make sure you check yourself during and after your walk. Plenty of great opportunities for bird watching along the trail as well as an abundance of chipmunks.

Coast Encounters in Maine offers a unique opportunity to explore the state's rocky coastline and its rich ecology. Visitors of all ages can enjoy tidepooling without leaving shore, getting hands-on with local creatures and habitats. Carol, a knowledgeable guide, provides water shoes and gear for a safe and educational experience. Families with kids appreciate her patience in teaching them how to navigate the rocks and handle marine life gently. It's an unforgettable adventure that leaves visitors grateful for the experience.
Our family had a wonderful adventure with Carol. Reserve in advance, ages 7+. She meets you at the coast where it is best to tidepool for the day, pending weather and low tide time. High quality water shoes are provided. She gives great instructions on safety, answers children's questions, very knowledgeable of marine life and how to handle the animals mindfully. You need to be able to walk over uneven surfaces to participate. The tour was about 3 hours from start (filling out waiver) to finish (clean up, water & snacks). My kids say: "five stars!!!" And "it's good. I liked it. I found a lobster!"
Alison B — Google review
We had the absolute BEST time with Carol at Coast Encounters! She made tide pooling an unforgettable adventure for our whole family. From holding crabs and lobsters to finding giant pieces of seaweed, every moment was hands-on and full of fun and learning. Carol was incredibly knowledgeable and patient, making sure everyone—from the brave to the squeamish—felt comfortable exploring and discovering. The kids were completely engaged, and we all walked away having seen and learned so much about the amazing creatures living right at our feet. This experience was one of the absolute highlights of our trip — we highly recommend Coast Encounters to anyone looking for a unique and interactive way to experience the Maine coast. Thank you, Carol, for such a memorable day!
Jennifer S — Google review
We booked a tide-pool adventure with Carol for the first morning of our Maine vacation - the kids spent the next 10 days looking for “tickle-size” crabs under any rock they could lift. We had a great and unique experience with Coastal Carol and could not recommend this excursion enough for the nature or marine-life enthusiast! Carol was informative, personable, and provided clear directions during booking and the day of the tide-pooling trip. It was a highlight of our trip to Maine!
Jed K — Google review
We went out with Carol last weekend and had an amazing tidepool adventure while visiting Kennebunk. We had so much fun exploring and learned a lot during the 3 hour trip. Thanks to Carol's expertise, we were able to find many sea urchins, a sea star, lots of crabs, and so many other interesting things. Great experience for both adults and children. We will definitely go out with Carol again next time we are in town.
Jessica H — Google review
We went on a trip with Carol early/mid September and it was absolutely incredible. We will never forget the experience we had and, if we come back to Maine, we will definitely pay to do another trip with her. Firstly, she was so friendly, warm, and open. She also had so much knowledge about the ecosystem we were in and the creatures we were seeing. Being able to learn about what we were feeling and seeing made the experience so much more interesting. She also gave us a ride to the exact spot with her van, gave us swim shoes to wear (I can't imagine going tidepooling without those, Made it much easier to walk and climb) gave us a laminated chart of all the creatures, snacks, towels to dry off at the end. Just the fact that she does all the planning for you - the best places to go and when the tide will be low and high and when you should be there etc. Takes all the stress out of it. Truly we had an incredible experience and the services through Coastal Encounters are 100% worth the money. We will definitely be doing it again if we ever make it back up to Maine!
Carly B — Google review
This was the highlight of our trip to Maine! Carol communicated very well with us from when we inquired up to our excursion date. Upon arrival, she explained our plan for the day and provided water shoes, fanny packs, and sunscreen. Once we were tide-pooling, Carol was extremely knowledgeable on the ecology and biodiversity of the pools we were in (which was AWESOME). Her dedication and passion to her work was so inspiring. Along with catching and holding lobsters, crabs, and plants we also had many photo opportunities curated by Carol. I couldn't say enough good things about Coast Encounters and Carol. It felt like a very personalized experience and we definitely want to do this again. :)
Corrine C — Google review
Our family has done two coastal encounters with Carol, once in 2021 and once in 2024, and had an amazing time both times! This is an incredible experience for people of any age! Carol is informative and friendly, and the experience is safe and wildlife conscious. I highly recommend it for anyone in the area who has the time to do this!
Matt K — Google review
Today, our 10yo mentioned Coastal Carol by name--this is notable because our tidepool tour was more than a week ago and she still remembers Carol! We spent a whirlwind week in Montreal and Maine, and we did some amazing things, yet our tidepool experience with Carol was the highlight of an awesome trip. I cannot say enough good things about Coast Encounters! I and my hubs were nervous about walking in the tidepool area, which is understandably slippery. Thank goodness Carol loaned us some nonslip shoes, and she even helped us put them on so they were properly adjusted. We felt totally safe and free to enjoy the tidepool flora and fauna. We saw animals we never would have found on our own, and Carol was incredibly knowledgable about everything we found. She very patiently answered our kiddo's million questions. We will 100% patronize Coast Encounters again when we visit the area! Wonderful memories and worth every penny. Thank you, Carol, for a truly magical experience and for showing us the real Maine Coast!

Wells Beach Mini Golf is a fantastic destination for an enjoyable and stimulating round of mini-golf. Situated along the Maine coastline, this course offers breathtaking views of the ocean. It's an ideal spot for mini-golf enthusiasts seeking adventure and excitement. The reasonable pricing makes it accessible to all, while the coastal-themed waterfalls and backdrops add a fun element to the experience. Families with young children will find it to be a perfect choice, even after Labor Day.
We considered the course at Wonder Mountain but really glad we did this one instead! Very good quality but quieter and less costly. There were other families there but we were unhurried even with our little kids. The staff person was friendly and even treated our kids to a prize for getting a hole-in-one. Would definitely recommend.
Benjamin W — Google review
$12 per person felt very expensive for this basic mini golf course. There weren't any interesting obstacles and there was very little shade. It was too hard for our kids, I wouldn't go back.

Great value. Great mini golf. We played nine holes before getting raised out. The proprietor gave us a voucher to come back for free. Highly recommended.

Place needs to change their hours; showed up at 8:40 on a July night and me & my son were told they were closed even though posted hours are until 9pm. Staff was very rude as well. MUCH better mini golf just down the street.

Why bother having your posted hours of 10am-7pm daily if you're going to be closed during these hours? Not sure if it's associated with the small campground behind it but don't bother going out of the way to get here because they might not be open.

We visited the Wells Branch Fire Station Museum today with the whole family and were pleasantly surprised by this local treasure. What truly sets this museum apart are the dedicated volunteers who bring the history of the fire station and the surrounding area to life. Their passion and knowledge made our visit both fun and educational. The museum itself offers a great collection of vintage fire trucks, uniforms, and equipment that were once used right here in the community. You can easily spend 30–45 minutes exploring and learning, making it a perfect outing for families with kids. I highly recommend stopping by during their open hours—Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM and Wednesdays from 12 PM to 3 PM. Don’t forget to leave a donation to help support this wonderful piece of local history. It’s well worth it! 🚒🔥
