Geologic Formations
The Glacial Grooves, located on Kelleys Island in Ohio, are a remarkable geological feature that bear witness to the powerful forces of nature. Carved into limestone bedrock around 18,000 years ago by a glacier from Canada, these grooves measure an impressive 400 feet long, 35 feet wide, and 15 feet deep.
This was a very well laid out and built park on the island. It was a great stop on our visit and would absolutely recommend it as a point of interest if you were visiting. There was a very nice hiking trail that ran alongside the park near the entrance that we only had the chance to partially explore.
Ron W — Google review
These grooves are ridiculous, they alone make a trip to the island worth it. The walk-way/stairs around the grooves blend in so well with the natural scenery. This is a must see in Ohio and I don’t know how anyone could give this less than five stars.
Thirteendays — Google review
The grooves were carved by glaciers dragging boulders over the rock. The sign said they were almost 400 feet long, the longest example of glacial grooves that can be visited. There are some informative displays and a path around the grooves. It's a neat reminder of the size of the glaciers that once covered the area and geological time scales as those glaciers were able to slowly carve the grooves into the rock.
John M — Google review
I thought it was awesome!! They had very interesting facts located around the area. Learned a lot!! The surrounding landscape was absolutely beautiful!!! Trees everywhere!! ❤️❤️
Aimee B — Google review
This is a free historical site that contains the remains of huge boulders of limestone that were carved out by glaciers hundreds of millions of years ago. It is amazing that ice could cut through rock with such force. Nature is powerful beyond the imagination. The state has done a wonderful job in building the walkway and picnic area around this site. There are also fossils embedded in the rock, that are visible with the naked eye, once you know that to look for. They have informative plaques that describe the history and what this site contains. We were thrilled to be there. Thank you.
Sharon D — Google review
For fellow nature nerds and others! It's a bit of a trek to get to these grooves, but it is totally worth it. Amazing piece of natural history!
Jess S — Google review
These glacial grooves are pretty amazing. (Being a believer in the creation theory, I don't they this event took place as long ago as they think it did) But they sure are cool to look at a take a few photos of.
Jeff G — Google review
Very beautiful area. a full walk around where you get to see all views of the glacier & the quarry that is still there.

State park
Nature & Parks
Park
Kelleys Island State Park, accessible by ferry, is a 677-acre preserve offering various outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, boating, hiking, and bird watching. The park features a sandy beach with Lake Erie views and a stone pier for fishing. It adjoins the North Shore Alvar State Nature Preserve and the North Pond State Nature Preserve.
This is my favorite of the 3 islands. The grooves alone are ridiculous. However, I do think this island has the best nature preserves and a good amount of food options without feeling too touristy.
Thirteendays — Google review
This is my opinion and should be taken as such. What an awesome place this was to stay at with a camper. Plus, taking it on a ferry was a first. We traveled with a friend and the ferry captain got us both on the same ferry to and from. The views was spectacular, we were on site 94. The lake was incredible. The island was not totally open as we went prior to their season started. But the businesses that were open were pretty great. We hung out at the Sand Bar one day and Kaz made it an awesome time.
Jody B — Google review
The Island itself is great for those that love nature or wine. Not a party island so take your alcoholism elsewhere. The State park is also great if you enjoy true camping with plenty of nature and water access to lake Erie. Trails and a beach highlight the access. The Glacial grooves are definitely worth seeing and makes you feel like you are taken back to a different time seeing all of the layers of rock.
Brandon F — Google review
Campground and beach are well kept. Looking forward to newer bathrooms some day. Mgr Chris does a great job with the funds he has. Bring bug spray for occasional flies at the beach. Or just stay in the water.
Buckeye B — Google review
Pretty nice camping spot. The female bathrooms/ showers were clean, hubby said the men's were not so much. The prices were nice for a water and electric hook up spot. Quiet, and peaceful, kid friendly. If youre looking to use your phone, you won't be able to, at least not with Verizon lol. We only got service near town or at the ranger station at the entrance where they had wifi. To be honest though, I loved being unplugged. You're walking distance from the glacial grooves and the swimming beach. We will definitely be going back sometime.

BEWARE OF BUGS! My family and I rented out the Sherman Cabin 101 in Mid-July. We checked in and went on with our day until it was dinner time. That’s when the current occupants came out, Earwigs. How did I know? One CRAWLED across the microwave as I was heating something up, BARF. Then another one appeared from under our Air frier, I lost my appetite. As the night went on they seemed to multiply, I looked them up and they are nocturnal. There was an infestation. I took my kids and we slept in our Mini-Van, it was hell on Earth. The next day the cleaning staff were very apologetic, offered solutions and cleaning supplies but insisted they were not allowed to spray anything. I went to the office and management was not there, the office was closed for the whole day. Then Thursday I spoke with an office rep and they said they didn’t know when the manager would be back. He took my name and I never heard back. The next day (after looking for him again) the manager said he couldn’t do anything but would come by to check it out, he never did. I got a hotel for two nights (almost 1,000.00 total) with my children because bugs crawling on the bed was enough for them to see. It ruined our vacation. There was no assistance offered from management nor a mention of a money back. They do not care. It’s pretty much “deal with it.” The last day I had a few items left in the cabin and they were actively crawling out of shoes, bags and the Heavy cooler! We came home and they came home with us. It took me over three hours to shake out all of our things because they were still alive. This place should be condemned, this park should be ashamed of themselves. What a waste of money and time off to spend buying our own bug defense. If you are ready to have claws bite you, bugs in your food and sleeping next to you, then this is your vacation spot. The feeling of being there made me want to throw up so the pictures were taken in a hurry. You have been warned.

This state island campground is more than expected! worth the ferry travel, a paradise kept secret. We stumbled upon this island by accident along our travels after Labor Day and we totally fell in love. The water front camping, swimming, boating, kayaking, historic sites, attractions and facilities are superb. Everything you need and more than you expect. We traveled in with our 34’ trailer. The ferry cost was a bit high, around $200 round trip for us, truck and camper….but it was worth it!! The campground is immaculate, quiet during the week especially after Labor Day, the weekend brings a larger crowd. Walking trails, sites, boating and swimming all available from campground. Sandy shallow beach with beautiful view. Ice, firewood and a store conveniently located at campground. The campground is small and sites a bit tight but spaced accordingly and comfortable. Two waterfront cabins and two yurts available for rent as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the island overall. The glacial grooves, limestone crusher, north loop trail, beach and boat launch all withing walking distance. We rented bikes downtown to explore rest of island, including winery, cantina and local bars. Counting the days to go back.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Inscription Rock, located on the south shore of Kelleys Island, is a historic site featuring Indigenous symbols carved into the rock. Discovered in 1833, this landmark showcases petroglyphs believed to have been created by the Erie Tribe three to four hundred years ago. Despite the wear and tear over time, Inscription Rock remains a must-see attraction on the island.
Although a lot of the original inscription has weathered off, you can look at the model and pick out some of the patterns near the edges. Also, we took a walk on the beach by there and found quite a bit of pieces of sea glass
Eric C — Google review
A neat little stop while visiting Kelly's Island. The inscription was carved by indigenous inhabitants long ago. The inscription itself is worn and weathered, so it is hard to make out, but they have depictions of the original carvings that show you the detail. This is an Ohio History Connection site. You can take a rubbing off the marker to fulfill your passport book.
Steve K — Google review
Interesting historical rock with petroglyphs. Unfortunately, the petroglyphs are mostly worn away and illegible.
John M — Google review
Interesting piece of history. Sad that the petroglyphs have not been protected and the weather has worn them down to almost nothing. There is a sketch of what the markings looked like when they were first discovered. But it is very hard to make out the images now. The rock is under a roof. But not much else to protect it. You can wander around the rocks and walk along the pebble beach. But that is about it. There is no parking lot, but most people just park along the road. We walked from the nearby shops. Not a must see attraction, but it is only a short walk from the shopping area. So at least worth the short walk.
Michael H — Google review
This was a huge boulder with petroglyphs carved in it by ancient Native Americans, several hundred years ago. Unfortunately, most of the carvings were barely visible due to the weather over time. I was a nice historical site though and I am glad we stopped there.
Sharon D — Google review
Love viewing history in my home state
Raina S — Google review
You really can't see the inscriptions any more except for random, lines and grooves. It is neat to be connected to history. Just don't expect perfect inscriptions. It's worth taking a look at if you are at Kelly's Island already.
James B — Google review
I was so happy to finally get the visit this historic landmark. However I was disappointed to find that the petroglyphs have been mostly eroded away. Some petroglyphs could be made out faintly. I am so sad that the preservation of this history has not been taken very seriously. Surly it is a fine example of Native American culture slipping away from us. The building around the inscription rock is very exposed to the outside elements. I was grateful to see the plaque had the original petroglyphs drawn out.

Winery
Kelleys Island Wine Co. is a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts looking to savor locally produced wines in a serene and natural setting. Located just a short bike or golf-cart ride from downtown, this winery has been delighting visitors with its island-made wines since the 1980s. The vineyard's outdoor eating area provides a picturesque backdrop for enjoying their selection of wines alongside delectable cheeses and other culinary delights.
The food was great. I had the daily specials of the Italian toasted cheese sandwich and the potato soup. Both were excellent. My wife chose the pork belly banh mi. Good, but her pork belly was a little over charred. Service was friendly and efficient. They have inside and outside seating.
Steve K — Google review
We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch with a large group. It was amazing. Nancy was so helpful and patient with all of us. The food was great, the atmosphere was great, the staff were amazing, the kids enjoyed the outside space; we will definitely be back!
Michael W — Google review
This was the first time I've been to Kelley's Island Wine Co and I went with my daughter and her boyfriend. It was a Saturday and it was busy so we did self service where you order inside and get a pager that alerts you when your food is done. We had no wait to be seated when arriving however it started getting busy quickly. The food was good and they had gluten free options for my daughter which is a huge plus! Bonus points for that! The wine was good for local wine. What my daughter chose was sweeter than I'd normally drink so I can't speak to the wine although my daughter and her boyfriend really enjoyed it. It's a nice atmosphere and friendly employees.

Worth the trip! Take the boat ride over to Kelly’s Island, jump on a golf and enjoy. We had Nick as our server, who was friendly, hard working and top notch customer service! The grounds are cool…Goats, chickens, ice cream and a kids playground. The food was great…Fresh, delicious and tasty. The kids loved the chips and fresh fruit. The pizza was perfect for the kids. The burger and salmon sandwich was solid! The ocean flatbread comes crab and lobster(loved it). The berry salad is so delicious with blue berries and strawberries. The drinks were okay-Cheers! Very cool chill location, will be back.
Sam H — Google review
Big beer selection and good tea. The burgers are probably 1 of top 5 burgers so far that we've tried. Delicious meaty blend and perfect grease to burger ratio. Highly recommend!

Feels like you’re on a family farm. Great food and wine. We had the King of the Ocean flatbread, which had lobster, shrimp, with a buttery topping. We also had a wine flight; the Coyote White was our favorite. Server was very kind. Dog friendly.

My family and I have been coming here for years and it never disappoints. The sangria and food is always delicious and consistently really good quality. The property is gorgeous and we look forward to visiting each time we’re on the island.

The Charles Herndon Gallery and Sculpture Garden is a unique cultural destination located on the east side of the island. Visitors can explore the artist's studio, galleries, and roam through the outdoor sculpture garden featuring different phases of the artist's work including metal, cement, and rock sculptures. The garden is tucked away in a peaceful area with trails that lead to various art installations, making it a hidden gem for art enthusiasts.
The gallery was amazing! We hopped off our bikes and walked through the grounds enjoying the beautiful artwork all around. Truly fabulous!
Paige C — Google review
Interesting outdoor display of the artist's work. Clearly different phases of the artist's journey - metal, cement, rock. I especially liked the rock pieces - clearly a significant effort to use natural glacial erratics and sculpt them into interesting and beautiful representations. The garden is way out on the back roads of the east edge of the island but a nice addition to our day on Kelley's Island.
Beth H — Google review
When the female form is embraced to this level, you have to wonder about the drive of the artist. Absolute quality, interest, artistry, texture, balance in the art pieces, especially the granite in my opinion. Definitely worth stopping by when visiting the island.
Ithaca C — Google review
A cute little walk through path with concrete & steel sculptures..Glass blowing on Thursdays.
Christy M — Google review
Sculptures galore at the beautiful Scenic spot on the water. Most of the Arts is done by Charles but there are some other artists on display including some amazing art glass blown on site. I'll be back someday for the chess set.
Ie N — Google review
One of my favorite places on Kelly's island for a nice refreshing stroll through a lifetime of fine artworks, Bring the family over here for an adventure through the strange and unusual mama mind of Charles Herndon And enjoy his garden and take it all in, Don't forget to say Hi to his dog very friendly little critter if I do say so myself
Aerial A — Google review
We came upon the garden by pure luck while riding our bikes on a day trip to the island. It was a nice spot to get off and rest a bit. We walked through many of the little trails admiring the sculptures. I'm sure we even probably missed a few, as they were tucked into many different areas of the property. We will certainly make it a point to come back and enjoy the garden again.

The Village Pump, a beloved establishment since the 1960s, is a must-visit watering hole on the island of Kelley's Island. This nostalgic favorite offers indoor seating and is known for its delectable fried perch and walleye dishes. Visitors can also indulge in the iconic Brandy Alexander cocktail or enjoy homemade lobster chowder. Don't forget to grab some Village Pump merchandise as a souvenir for Lake Erie island enthusiasts.
Had a turkey club and brandy Alexander for lunch. Service was great, food delicious and plentiful. The Brandy Alexander was delicious and a bit stronger than it tasted!
Mark S — Google review
We were on the island and decided to get dinner before heading back to the mainland. We sat at the bar the bartender was nice and friendly and had a good sense of humor. The food was good. We got the Pearch Platter and Chilli and the Chicken Salad Sandwich. The Pearch was 100% on point and delicious !! And the amount of fries that came with it could have fed half of Ethiopia. Even though it's a long swim we will be back to try some of your other delicious-looking plates. Thanks again!!
Vinny C — Google review
The village pump has some decent food, the prices are okay, and the customer service is above average. The food at the pump isn’t anything to get excited for. It feels like the portions are larger to make up for the okay food. I didn’t dislike my meal, but I truly feel like I could’ve made a better medium well burger at home with basic ingredients from a local supermarket. The pretzel I had was awesome, portions were huge, beer cheese was great, and the pretzel was piping hot. I really felt like I got my moneys worth and then some with the pretzel. I paid $12.20 for the Angus burger, and $9.95 for the pretzel. Something that I noticed was a credit card fee of 2.5%. Wasn’t charged it with a debit card, but could be something to look out for. Plus an additional 1.5% Kelly’s Island Resort Tax. The server I had was very persistent, reliable, and friendly. It wasn’t long between me finishing my drink and him filling it. The food was brought to me at a relatively decent speed, about 5 minutes for the pretzel, and 12 minutes for the medium well burger. Wasn’t busy at the time, but appreciated the speedy service. Food Quality: 7/10 Food Portions: 9/10 Prices: 8/10 Service: 9/10 Overall: 8.5/10
Mike G — Google review
We were very satisfied with the food, although the atmosphere lacked. We enjoyed the perch dinner, slaw, fries, hamburger, lobster chowder, and deep-fried Oreos. I've had better Lava cakes. The styrofoam plates and cheap decor turned me off, but my granddaughter was dying for the deep-fried Oreos. The service was very good, although a little lagging on beverage refills. All in all, I'd recommend for a casual dinner.

order the pump burger ITS AMAZING, I got the quesadilla and the Homemade Chicken Noodle soup it was amazing I would definitely come back again theree a perfect view of lake Erie out the window.
Sharleen K — Google review
Pretty decent restaurant. Enjoyed the burger and onion rings, the fries were a little odd but otherwise. Got there when it wasn't busy so was able to choose our seats, last time we were seated by the bathrooms. Great service, got our food pretty fast. Overall had a pretty decent meal.
Alexander K — Google review
Hillary is absolutely top notch, it was my first time at Kelly’s island and I heard how it was boring. We walked into the pump and she made it the best experience at a bar ever! Hannah who wasn’t our server still was very involved with with all the customers and made it even more fun and enjoyable for me and my group. All around an amazing experience because of the amazing service!
Ethan H — Google review
I so wish I would have grabbed some pictures of the drinks and food! We gobbled it up too fast. We had the perch by the pound as a shareable. I think this may have been the best perch we have had in the area. Light, flaky the breading is excellent. Onion rings are fabulous. You have to try a pitcher of the brandy alexanders! Perfect sweet drink to share with your table. Not overly sweet, but just right and so refreshing. Our server was excellent as well.

OK...Let me start by saying, we totally understand it was island fest, and the island was busy but this place was by far the biggest disappointment of the weekend. We ordered food and waited almost 2 hours for sandwiches! We were told by the TERRIBLY RUDE kitchen staff that we could not cancel our orders because they were in oven. After waiting an additional 30 minutes, we tried to cancel again because we had to get our golf cart back and catch the Ferry. These employee were unbelievably mean and lied to us nonstop! We weren't the only ones having this issue. So many customers were complaining 🙄 Just unreal!
T J — Google review
Worried about the putt putt course. Right downtown in the action and such a fun option, but each year the condition gets a little more sad. This summer, no water, broken features, missing features, etc. Set expectations reasonably.
Candice C — Google review
Garbage. Less than 1 star if Google would let me. Make sure that you understand their NO REFUND policy. Bad weather rolled into Kelleys and the ferries stopped running. Needless to say, we had to cut things a day short to get off the island. Caddy Shack couldn’t care less and offered no refund.

Do not rent golf carts from them !!!! They were sold out when we got there, we were put on a waitlist (never received a text from them all day) after hanging around the area for a hour we came back to see how close we were on the waitlist and were told to make a reservation online which we ended up doing. They could have told us the first time they took reservations online. Came back a hour later at our reservation time and were told we didn’t have a reservation. Extremely rude and did nothing to help they basically told us to just go away that our name wasn’t on there, wasted half the day waiting around for a golf cart from them. Walked down the street to a different rental place and luckily they had one cart , very nice people who were very helpful and we got to enjoy the rest of the day. Don’t waste your time/ day waiting around on them !!! Terrible service
Allison R — Google review
Shady wouldn’t rent golf carts from these guys. Rented a 6 seater golf cart which for starters the parking brake didn’t work and then the employee showed us that you have to get out of the cart and then use your hand to push the pedal down really how safe is that and then today in the afternoon basically a week later calls and says the golf cart tires are messed up which didn’t tell me how and now I owe him $200. Not exactly hot rodding a six seat golf with 2 autistic boys and a young child and also when we returned the golf cart it was inspected thoroughly tires, brakes, and etc. and I also told them to not forget that the parking wasn’t working properly and they acknowledged that and one more note it took them roughly an hour to find my paperwork and credit card I’d give these guys a zero if I could
Michael B — Google review
Sell out of everything VERY fast. If you don't make reservations online, don't bother.
Charles M — Google review
The service was easy. The golf cart was in good condition and the Caddy Shack was located close to the Jet Express drop off. All of this made it easy for my mother, whose mobility is not the best, to enjoy her day on Kelleys Island. We explored every nook. The price was fair and comparable to others across the islands.

The Kelleys Island Historical Association Museum offers a glimpse into the island's past through its local history exhibits. The museum covers various topics, including medical care, the introduction of electricity to the remote town, Native American history, and stories about early settlers Datus and Irad Kelley. Visitors can also explore a small gift shop offering books, cards, and unique gifts. Additionally, there is a thrift store supporting local people in need on the premises.
These people love what they do, and it shows. Everyone we met here was full of information about the island and its people. I was looking for information about my mother, who graduated from the school there in 1943., and was thrilled to find her name in one of the school annuals. I was also able to visit her former home. The Historical society put me in touch with a woman who had lived next door to mom as a small child. My visit was successful on many levels. Kelleys Island is a beautiful retreat and we had a wonderful time.

This was a nice area. The church has a original house that belongs to the church set up as a little thrift store that supports local people in need. Stop buy I'm sure they will have something you will like plus you can read the history of the church and the house. They are both historical land marks. They have a big sign that tells the history of both. The lady that was running the store was very friendly.

Scheele Preserve is a nature preserve on Kelleys Island, part of The Cleveland Museum of Natural History. It offers a half-mile trail that leads to a beautiful white sandy beach, making it a favorite spot for visitors. Hiking is permitted from sunrise to sunset, and the trail features shady areas and some muddy spots with added stepping stones. The path ends at a picturesque small sandy/rocky beach where visitors can wade into Lake Erie or take a swim.
A must see nature preserve for the sole reason the trail ends at a beautiful white sandy beach! The trail is about 1/2 mile and you return on the same path. There are some muddy areas, but volunteers have added stepping stones along the path. There is plenty to see along the path and most of the path is shady. At the end of the path is a very pretty small sandy/rocky beach. You can take a moment to wade into Lake Erie or take a swim. It is nice to walk along the beach and see the stone "artwork" others have done. I was not expecting to see the beach when I set out. There is a bench provided and when we went out it was very secluded!

My favorite place on Kelley's Island! The trail here is about a half mile long and very easy to walk. We took a stroller with our 14 month old and our dog as well. The trail opens to a beautiful and secluded beach. Highly recommend if going to the island. The day we went we were the only ones there! Absolutely loved it!

I finally found a hiking trail that leads to a white sandy beach! No, but really, it's a nice easy hike through a variety of landscapes. A few muddy spots, but people have put down stepping stones. Nice prairie, nice trees, beautiful beach. The lake was calm when I was there.

Definitely the best beach on the island. It's small because of private property but it's empty and pristine. Easy, short walk. There is a bench on the beach, perfect for a snack or a small picnic. This was my dog's favorite beach too.

West Bay Inn is a popular dining spot on Kelleys Island, known for its delicious peel and eat shrimp. The Village Pump is another must-visit, famous for its perch and walleye. For a refreshing drink, head to The Kelley's Island Wine Co & KI Cantina for a perfect margarita.
We typically come for drinks and good vibes. Their specialty drinks are pretty tasty and the beer is always cold! The atmosphere is awesome and the bartenders/ servers a great. They have cornhole and volleyball. Pull tabs if you're feeling lucky! Always a party here.

We stopped by while bike riding around the island to grab a beer and a bite. We ordered the nachos and were blasted back to 9th grade lunchtime nachos in the school cafeteria... Definitely not foodie nachos... And the can of beer I was served could have been allot colder... Oh well. The view from the bar was spectacular, though.

Great view. Many different table options, even a counter facing the lake, shaded outdoor patio w view… lots of good options to pick from, blackened walleye was great and big portion, flat breads were yummy.

Super cute place. Service was great but a little slow due to short staffed and a ton of people. Did not eat, only had a couple of drinks. Reasonably priced cocktails and beers. Bathrooms are located outside, along with an outdoor bar. Didn't go inside. There's volleyball and bags toss outside. I really liked this place!

We went there to watch the sunset, and that was easily the highlight of our visit. We had walleye and the Pork Sunday. Expectations were “mid” for the food (expectations met) but it came out in to-go containers so that was kind of bizarre. Drinks were decent and fairly priced, service was fine but nothing special. Loved the cannon shot at sunset! Definitely a great venue for the view.

North Pond State Nature Preserve is a 51-acre wetland area located on the Lake Erie coast, offering a diverse range of natural attractions. The preserve features a boardwalk leading to a pond observation tower, providing an excellent vantage point for birdwatching and observing waterfowl. It is also part of the Lake Erie Birding Trail, making it a popular spot for bird enthusiasts.
Another well maintained and enjoyable nature hike on Kelleys Island! The trail from the parking lot is a very nicely shaded trail that drops in elevation down to the water line. As you get closer to the lake, the trail becomes a very nice boardwalk allowing you to walk over the marshy area. There is a short extension that branches to the lake with a very nice sandy beach. The beach is part of the Kelley's Island State Park. Along the boardwalk is an observation deck providing a great view of the surrounding marsh. The trail is not very long and it would only take about 20 to 30 minutes if you simply walked it. Be prepared for the heat and the bugs! There is parking near the entrance. Also, many people use this parking lot and trail as an easy access to the beach! This side of the beach is harder to get to from the state park So this trail is an easy access without hiking through the park.

This is an amazing nature preserve. There is a large boardwalk that loops through the marsh. There is a wooden lookout tower. There is also a beach section along the lake. There is native vegetation. There are many different species of birds. There is no parking or restroom facilities.

We only went half way around. We went over the boardwalk and ended up on a beach with a bunch of boats anchored near the shore. Looks like a popular place. We had to turn back as a member of our group can't do sand. Plan on coming back and finishing the trail.

Short walking trail that leads through woods, then along a boardwalk over a marsh to the beach. There's a small observation tower that gives a nice view of the small pond. We saw turtles, but unfortunately no snakes. Parking for cars is just to the east on the opposite side of the road, and golf carts can probably just pull off right at the trail entrance. There was a bike rack available too.

The North Shore Loop Hiking Trail on Kelleys Island is a scenic and easy one-mile trail that offers stunning views of Lake Erie. It leads to the rare alvar habitat along the island's northern shore, providing unique opportunities for exploration. The East Quarry Trails, a five-mile network, wind around an abandoned limestone quarry and offer additional hiking and biking options. Visitors can enjoy well-maintained paths with optional spots to access beautiful lake views.
A very nice loop trail that provides some fantastic views of Lake Erie. Across the lake you can see Pelee Island which is part of Canada. The trail is well worn down, so no problem knowing where to hike! And along the shore we can explore the "alvord" section which provided the best views of the lake! There were not many visitors when we hiked it... so plenty of opportunities to take photos with no one in them! The trail wanders through an old quarry that was part of the Kelley's Island Lime and Transport company. Along the way you will see ruins of the rock crusher and a few old vehicles and other machinery. In the back is a brick building that was used to store explosives. Plenty to see and explore. The hike was not very long. But be prepared for mosquitos!
Michael H — Google review
Pleasant trail near the old quarry. You can get close to the rare lakeside daisies in the spring.
Thirteendays — Google review
Nice well maintained trail. Lots of cool paths out to the rocks and cliffs. Careful as the rocks can be very slippery. But that's not part of the trail, it is very safe.
Nathan H — Google review
Nice hike with fairly level terrain on the path. Optional spots to get out to the water provide beautiful views. Trails are well-worn and cleared.

This is a nice hiking trail. I went here and was satisfied with my experience. This is an approximately mile long loop trail that goes near the shore, where there are access points to an alvar and a rocky beach. This trail is a flat, wide dirt trail. The beginning of this trail has some ruins, but I accessed this trail from a different trail coming from the glacial grooves, so I didn’t see this. I gave this trail five stars because it has nice views and because it was an enjoyable hike.

North Shore Alvar State Nature Preserve is a unique and beautiful natural area located on Kelleys Island, adjoining the Kelleys Island State Park and North Pond State Nature Preserve. The preserve features barren limestone and dolomite formations, known as alvars, which are rare and harsh habitats with very little vegetation due to extreme winter conditions.
A beautiful and fantastic area to explore! I saw the reference on Google maps... but had to look up what an"alvar" is. The alvar is a large rocky shore that has very little vegetation on it due to the very harsh winter conditions that cover it in ice that scrapes away most of the vegetation every year. The view is absolutely fantastic! Across the water you can see the southernmost tip of Canada and Pelee Island. In fact, I received a "Welcome to Canada" text message! The hike to get here is not very long and there are plenty of paths to the shore to let you explore! Alvars are not common... so definitely worth the visit... if for one reason... come out for the view!
Michael H — Google review
Nice little hike. Start at the trailhead that is near the waters edge passed the old building. Going the other direction is confusing, especially with the service road.
Tod S — Google review
This is a nice nature preserve. I went here and was satisfied with my experience. This nature preserve has a loop hiking trail that goes along through a forest along the lakeshore. There’s a path from this trail to a large alvar by the lake, which had beautiful views of South Bass and Pelee islands. There’s another path branching off this trail to a small rocky beach. The loop trail is a wide, flat dirt trail, the path to the alvar is a small, somewhat steep path, and the path to the beach is a steep path, and walking down it requires moving tree branches out of the way. I gave this nature preserve five stars because it has some beautiful views of Lake Erie.
Qwerty — Google review
Beautiful walk along the coast, then the trail darts inland. You can make the hike shorter or longer depending on which route you take. Would be good to do on a bike if you can lift your bike over a few fallen trees along the trail.
Mindy B — Google review
Sweeping views across Lake Erie to the north. The nearest island is the southern most point in Canada. The habitat is of interest to botanical minded visitors. It’s a narrow strip of rock that is scraped by ice each winter which removes much of the vegetation except for plants that have adapted to the extreme conditions. This is an alvar.

Seat yourself. View is beautiful. Servers were attentive & friendly. We ordered crab cakes ($19.5) best I've had personally. Light w a slight crisp. Mostly crab. Lobster bisque ($8) was pretty good. Could have used alittle more flavor. The bread served w it tasted stale. Split the Cajun pasta w salmon ($23.5) The salmon was cooked perfectly & well seasoned. The pasta itself was cooked just right. Sauce was creamy. The sauce wasn't Cajun at all though. I added a ton of pepper & salt to give the pasta some flavor other than cream. I felt the portion of pasta was lacking. We were still hungry.

Food was great, I had the salmon with pierogis and the quinoa/rice blend, fantastic. My parents both had the crab cake dinner and they loved it. Prices are good for what you get, except the drinks lol. 9 dollars for a mule and 9 dollars for a high noon, 4.50 for a coke! But, very good nonetheless. Our server was Kale, she was awesome haha! Love the outdoor seating by the bay, fun environment. Might have to come back for dessert later!

The food was okay considering we got sandwiches which was about all they offer on a Sunday afternoon. It came with chips not french fries. Still a good sandwich. Yesterday we were here for the entertainment which was excellent. They had a guitar player and singer who was excellent and did a really good guitar solo. He sang some really great songs and was entertaining as well. He had been here for many years and knew a lot of the folks stopping by. It was my first time, and it won't be the last. Saturday this place was packed and as you can see the view is very good.

We love coming to Dockers. Steve Brownell’s music brought us down on a Friday evening. We had a group of 10 and ordered drinks and dinner. Food was good, our waiter couldn’t care less about our service or was just a really bad waiter. We had to ask multiple times for refills, he was very inefficient as he continued to walk back and forth across the seating area with nothing in his hands. We ordered a dish without cheese and it came heavily coated in cheese. When I mentioned it to him, his reply was “well I told the kitchen”. That may be true, but you brought the dish out with the cheese on it, didn’t check, left it on the table and quickly walked away. He seemed surprised we’d actually want the dish served correctly when asked. His reply was, you want me to send it back? 🙄 He also left all our plates and food baskets sitting on the table even after everyone was done for ages. The breeze kept blowing the paper from the baskets and the napkins around, and birds started coming to get leftover crumbs off the plates. I guess good help is hard to find, but with a large, non-needy party, he still got a really nice tip, for really poor service. It just doesn’t take that much to take care of a friendly table who’s there to enjoy themselves. It’s mid-j July, he should be well-versed at taking care of tables at this point in the summer. So basically, if you can deal with the possibility of poor service, or can get a different server, you will have a great time. Lots of food options for everyone!
Amanda W — Google review

I got the cheeseburger because the menu says fresh meat, not frozen. When it came out the cheese wasn't even melted and it was a premade frozen patty. Captains Corner in downtown Kelleys Island is a popular breakfast spot that also serves as a pub. It's one of the few places where you can dine indoors on the island. The menu includes delicious Greek salads, fresh and not too heavy, leaving room for dessert. The shareable Mac and Cheese and Spaghetti are highly recommended entrees. The service is quick, even during lunch rush hours in August.
Today was my first time eating here. The food was wonderful. I had the baked crab Cakes and I can honestly say they were the BEST I have ever had. I also loved the fact that the music was loud enough to hear but you could still have table conversation and hear what was being said. Kudos. Our Servers were excellent. Thank you!
Marvin D — Google review
Captains Corner was one of our favorite places to eat during a recent visit to Kelleys Island. We had dinner on our first night and later returned for breakfast. The breakfast was solid, but I think I enjoyed the dinner more. I love a good buffalo chicken sandwich, and theirs was really good. A buttermilk fried chicken breast tossed in Buffalo sauce, topped with bleu cheese crumbles, lettuce, tomato, and onion served on a toasted bun ($12.99). The sauce was just spicy enough and I always enjoy having fresh bleu cheese crumbles on the sandwich! My wife enjoyed the cranberry pecan salad ($12.99 add chicken for $3). This combined fresh mixed greens, dried cranberries, crushed pecans, red onion, and feta cheese with a raspberry vinaigrette. The chicken was a nice addition, though probably not necessary for this tasty salad. Large chunks of feta added a nice creamy flavor to compliment the sweet flavors of the cranberry and raspberry dressing. Truthfully there aren't a ton of options on Kelleys Island, but Captains Corner was among the best we experienced.

This place was wonderful! We enjoyed the atmosphere and ambience. The bartenders were attentive and prompt, the Margaritas were tasty, and the Mediterranean platter was yummy.

$19.99 walleye dinner consisted of one piece of FROZEN(not from Lake Erie) fish fillet and a whole bunch of fries. The server explained the fish comes in frozen and they get cooked. I asked why it's not zippered, what's with the skin on it, and there's a ton of bone in it because no one zippered the fillet, how come? She had no idea what I was talking about. For an establishment that is on an Island out in Lake Erie to not be serving fresh Lake Erie Walleye and on top of it to not be preparing it correctly is mind-blowing. Plus one fillet? I could have gone to Jolly Rodgers instead. Back to my review. 6 of us including 3 hungry kids showed up at 2:45pm. No one took our order until 3:10ish. Food never arrived until 3:47 and it was cold. The Philly Cheesesteak had hair in it. And when asked for my receipt, the waitress had thrown it away. That's when I asked for the manager and told them this is really bad customer service and the food was not good. We never said anything the entire time we were there because that's just not how we are when we go out to eat. Treat us like bad guests and toss my receipt, well, that's when enough was enough. Waste of time, money, and food wasn't the standard I would have expected even for a quick bite to eat let alone a sitdown restaurant.
Babs — Google review
Restaurant was dusty with multiple visible cobwebs. Bathrooms were decent. Took 45 minutes to get our food, which I realize lots of places are short staffed so possibly not their fault. Chips are thick and just taste fried, wasn’t impressed. Perch sandwich was good. Overall a mediocre experience.
Katelynn S — Google review
Got the perch sandwich and fries special came with cold perch and potato chips not fries. I didnt even think about it untill i saw the sign on the way out. Our waitress came by a blond lady and I told her the coleslaw was not good she made a smart remark and took off. I told her she was rude. Actually the coleslaw was wilted and spoiled and the tarter sauce was just mayo. Never been treated like that ever. She acted like she owned it. Eating here was my mistake it was the villiage pump next door where I went 10 years ago their perch was awesome. I thought it was on the corner. My bad, my wife was hungry. Yes I did leave the 20 percent tip but this place will never get my money again.

Located in downtown Kelleys Island, the Original Island Fudge Shoppe is a must-visit for those with a sweet tooth. This old-school shop offers a variety of homemade fudge flavors that are highly praised by visitors. The creamy and not overly sweet fudge is considered some of the best in America, making it worth the visit. While the shop only accepts cash, its delectable treats make it a popular stop for both locals and tourists alike.
After having different flavors of fudge all across the country, I believe Original Island Fudge Shoppe may be the best in America. I had the peanut butter fudge and my wife had the dark chocolate fudge. Both were very creamy, not too sweet, and none of the waxy / plastic taste you get from commercial places. I highly recommend it.

The winery is known for its colorful ambiance and specializes in wine slushies, featuring a variety of sweet fruit wines that can be sampled in a wine slushie flight. Visitors can explore the retail store and then enjoy their slushies on the front porch or in the lush enclosed garden.
This is my favorite winery here on the island. The new blueberry flavors are delicious, both the wine and the specialty soda. The clothes in the shop are made to last and the slushies are so refreshing to sip on while walking through the greenhouse garden.

We stopped on a hot summer afternoon. The place is small. They only had fruit wines available during our visit. Tried the wine shushies. My wife had the wild cherry, and I had the lemon blueberry. They were good, but I experienced a bit of sticker shock at the price. Was charged $32 for two large slushies, which seemed awfully high for mostly pulverized ice. Still, they were good, and the outside seating was comfortable.

This winery is pretty small considering. And it only has fruity drinks. No dry wines which I prefer. We enjoyed trying some options and the frozen options were tasty. The lady running it was sweet. I'd go back. But just don't expect a huge menu or dry wines.

Always a nice stop when we visit Kelly's Island. Their fruit wine is typical, midwest fruit forward and delicious. Rent a bike or cart and visit. Just south of the State park.

Very cool place to check out! Love the greenhouse and atmosphere. The employees were super nice and welcoming. I will say I wasn’t thoroughly impressed with the wines but they were ok. The wine slushies were good though. Seems like they have live entertainment at times too. Worth checking out!

Looking for a great little place that's less hectic than the main drag? Monarch Winery serves good wine and awesome wine smoothies, along with a small selection of meats, cheese and crackers. Also, they have a great lawn to spread out, let the kids play and the dog run. Did I mention the delicious wine smoothies??

Best wine slushees we’ve every had. The person who worked there was very friendly. Dog friendly.

They've really put in some work on this place since the opening during COVID. The butterflies are officially gone, it turns out they're kind of a pain to take care of lol. Either way, the wine bar is operational and there's also some snacks for you to munch on while you enjoy the wines. Definitely recommend stopping by.

Gem shop on Kelly’s island. It was closed so we could not go in.

Righteous and rocktastical rocks and stones and such to make good gifts for friends that weren't cool enough to come to Kelley's Island with you. Xavier was a super nice and helpful dude to chat with and made our rock shopping experience even more rocking than I might have guessed. Rock on

Almost didn't stop in when I saw the previous reviews, but after finding out it was just due to the store not being open...we decided to try. IT WAS PRETTY COOL! for 12 bucks the kids got to shift for gems from these bags in the shop. We really enjoyed it and definitely worth a stop if you have kids. Ours are 6 & 8.

Memorial park
Memorial Park is a charming public space located in the heart of Kelleys Island, offering a peaceful retreat and various amenities for visitors. The park features a touching memorial dedicated to the island's fallen veterans, adorned with flowers and American flags. Additionally, there is a playground with swings and slides for younger children to enjoy.
Very nice green space/park located right next to the shopping district. Several benches to sit at and a nice playground that is great for smaller children. You have a great view of Lake Erie and can watch the Jet Express come in to port. Or just simply look out at the lake! The war memorial is a very nice tribute to the men and women who gave it all. There are a few picnic tables available and a few trees to provide some shade. Great place to take a break and let the kids run around.

This is a nice, peaceful park. It’s located in downtown and has a view of the Jet Express dock, lake, and Marblehead. The park’s green space is quite well maintained, and there’s a memorial with flowers and American flags to fallen veterans from Kelley’s Island. In addition to that, there’s also a playground with swings and a twisting slide.

Decent green space in downtown Kelleys Island. The park hosts most of the island community gatherings. Impressive veterans memorial. Also tucked into the back corner is a small playground for younger kids

Quaint little park right downtown that hosts a lot of events as well. Playground is alright but could stand to be replaced.

The Kelleys Island Parsonage Resale Shop is not just a historic building, but also a treasure trove of vintage treasures. Housed in a charming circa 1888 structure, every room is filled with an array of by-gone gems waiting to be discovered. Visitors who enjoy browsing for antiques will find plenty to explore and admire within its walls.
Owners were super sweet and funny! grabbed a wonderful vintage cardigan to match my grandma’s :)
