Japanese-style business hotel
Hotel
La'gent Stay Hakodate Ekimae is a charming hot spring inn located in Hakodate, offering warmly decorated rooms and a range of amenities including a bathhouse, sauna, and bar. Situated near popular attractions like Goryokaku Park and Hakodate Goryokaku, the hotel provides comfortable air-conditioned rooms with modern facilities.
Love this hotel and highly recommended. It is located just next to the Hakodate JR Station. The room size was sufficient for 3 of us. It was reasonably priced and cone with free access to onsen with nice bath robes provided. The reception speaks good English, so communication was a brisk. Also, there is a Lawson convenience store, shop, and restaurants connected to it.
Lawrence W — Google review
2 night stay, the room is comfortable, clean, silent and the location is excellent. 1 min walk to JR station and 2-3 mins to city train station (Hakodate Eki Mae. Breakfast is good with a lot of choice. Onsen area is large with gear atmosphere. But there is no hair rubber, face cleanse lotion provide. Will come back to stay again and recommend to all of you.
Wilson C — Google review
Great location right next to JR Hakodate station. Our room was comfortable and spacious for two people. The onsen was well-maintained but can be too crowded on busy hours. The front desk and cleaning staff were awesome. Price was expensive during the high season.
Vassie O — Google review
Great service. We love here.Due to the tsunami warning, we had to make some last-minute changes over the phone. Although the staff didn’t speak much English, everyone patiently used translation devices to assist us.The issue was eventually resolved well. We’re truly grateful. On the day of check-in, a staff member at the front desk who spoke Chinese provided excellent service and recommendation of shops where we could find items we were looking for . We felt very warm and welcomed. The room wasn’t large, but it was clean and comfortable, and the kids loved the cute penguin plush toy. We’ll definitely choose this place again the next time we visit Hakodate.
Ding D — Google review
Coming from a very small Tokyo hotel, this room seems relatively much bigger and a lot more comfortable. There was space to walk around the room without having to keep only to the sides of the bed. Even had a one seater sofa apart from a desk chair. Location was excellent right next to the Hakodate train station, 3 mins walk.
George K — Google review
Shared onsen with a gym. Honestly feels like a scam as it is not Stated on the booking site. It’s more busy than only hotel guests. The onsen is not large and not design for many people . The worst, the gym will still cost you 2700 yen. So in all honesty.. the guy who made this deal with gym has zero to none business skills
Patrick L — Google review
Great hotel that's new, clean, big enough rooms and conveniently located. If you are lucky enough, you get to see the great night view of the Bay from your room window There's a little food street right down stairs and a convenient store.

the room is nice and clean and comfortable, there is laundry, the restaurant is nice and clean.. every window facing out has an amazing view

La Vista Hakodate Bay is a refined hot spring hotel located just a short walk from the Uoichiba-dori streetcar and JR Hakodate Station. The hotel offers warm accommodations with a blend of Japanese and Western styles, including tatami mat spaces and the option to rent baby beds for added convenience. Guests can enjoy multiple dining options, spa facilities, and a sauna on-site.
Great stay! The rooms were very well cleaned and the cleaner even fixed our room clock without us reporting. The restaurant waitress, Kizu, was very friendly and helpful! She was attentive to our needs, especially my grandma :) Food was good too. Only 1 feedback - can provide more bottles of mineral water in the room!
Jacqueline T — Google review
We stayed in the Deluxe Twin Room for one night, with the breakfast buffet included. The price on the hotel website was about 20% less expensive than the third party travel websites, and I was even able to select a high floor with a view. This hotel is about a 15 minute walk from Hakodate Station, though because the road was slippery from the snow, it took us about 20 minutes. There is also a bus that runs from Hakodate station to the hotel. It is about a five minutes ride, though the bus departs infrequently. The room interior has an intriguing design, which is a mix of Japanese and Western styles. Our room was on the 11th floor and also had a view of Mt. Hakodate. Not much was visible at night, but it was beautiful in the morning. Although I appreciated the interior design, I think the room was quite dark and could’ve been better illuminated. The bed and pillows were not very comfortable, I was tossing and turning all night trying to get comfortable. The linens in the room were a bit old and worn out, these need to be replaced. There are various free beverage machines throughout the hotel including coffee and nutritional juice. There were also paid vending machines for bottled beverages. They also have free noodles late at night, though I did not take advantage of this amenity. This hotel is supposedly quite famous for their seafood breakfast buffet, but it was a little bit underwhelming for me. Although it is unique to offer seafood, I felt like the quality and variety was disappointing.
Morton G — Google review
Great location. Close to Bay Area or Hakodate station area. Great access to Mt Hakodate as well. If you do not have car and want to spend some time around Bay Area, I’d say this one is the best option. This hotel is known for its breakfast buffet. Seafood bowl was amazing, seafood was fresh, much better than the one I had at morning market. I get that their main thing is the seafood bowl, but there is not much h more to it. Very simple bread and omelet, not many desserts either. Drink selection was also limited. We went there around 6:45 and we got in just past 7am. Inside was pretty chaotic, I wanted to eat more but I gave up due to how many people were in there. Room is ok, it is getting quite old and smelt like moss ball. The double room we stayed had queen size bed, bed was comfortable but there is no space for suitcase. Hot springs on the top floor is very nice, the best thing is that they do not close bath at night so you can take bath literally anytime you want. When I went to the outside bath around 2am, there was no one around and it was really amazing experience. There are many more hotels in Hakodate do similar or maybe better breakfast, this hotel has the best location advantage.

Being a big fan of Dormy Inns for years. Stayed here for the 1st time after La Vista Tokyo Bay earlier this year. Nice surprising quintessential details of British Colonial style in rooms, interiors, amenities, and common bath 👍 Roof-top onsen boasts authentic hot spring ♨️ with marvelous setting and 270’ panoramic view of Hakodate ! However, didn’t feel the restaurant space and numbers of 🛗 elevators are designed proportionally to accommodate such huge numbers of guests. I wish more space on the 2nd floor can be allocated for breakfast serving/dining spaces . Felt like a battleground with all the line-up, coming back from breakfast buffet, felt like needing a shower and literally took one.😂 ( La Vista Hakodate does have an Annex providing more chilled/upscale experience but I wish they would offer one-bed rooms for single travelers😮‍💨)
H E — Google review
The rooms are aging, the Onsen is nice and in the roof with good views. Long waits for the lift because the hotel is so full. My room was hot even though I put the AC on at full blast. At the front they told me they have an issue with the AC and it’s better to open the windows…it’s a 13 floor hotel and they said the AC isn’t working well in any of the rooms. It’s a bit unacceptable I found…. Breakfast is good but not incredible. There are so many people it’s a bit of a mad house and chaotic early. In comparison: LA VISTA BAY ANNEX I stayed here last year and the price is double. But I would say perhaps the experience is twice as good. Less people, better fruits and special drinks at the buffet and the system is much better. Rooms are more spacious and super new and nice. I was expecting the same at the regular La Vista Bay but I guess there was a reason for the price difference. I definitely recommend the Annex instead of this hotel if you can afford the price difference. The service is also much better there, I had a bit of a rude girl with attitude the first day here too but the other people were all nice. But the Annex they were very way more welcoming and kind.

The best place to stay in Hakodate and one of our favorite hotels in the whole world. The onsen on the top floor with outdoor bath is amazing!
Brendan — Google review
Their breakfast is famous, Super and delicious. All you can eat fresh seafood, bread, omelettes to desserts. I’m not hungry at lunch
Heny S — Google review
Bedroom is nice and clean and the room assigned to us face the Hakodate Bay which was a very nice view. The hotel seemed dark everywhere and the lobby is too small to me as I can see it crowded with guests either checking in/out or waiting for friends. The best of the hotel is the breakfast offering. Lots of fresh seafood to make your own Chirashi.

3Bourou Noguchi Hakodate Ryokan

Hotel
Bourou Noguchi Hakodate Ryokan offers contemporary accommodations with Wi-Fi, private soaking tubs, and a shared rooftop tub. The hotel is conveniently located just a 15-minute drive from Mount Hakodate. Guests can enjoy indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths, relax in the sky lounge's massage chairs, or admire the Japanese garden. The JR Hakodate Train Station is also just a 15-minute drive away for easy access to transportation.
Amazing experience and beautiful hotel. We stayed for one night in the Wamodern Room with meals included. The room was spacious, meticulously decorated, comfortable, and relaxing. The hot spring bathtub was very large also, about 2m x 2m size with continuous flow of water. It was also easy to adjust the temperature, and open the window to gaze at the night sky while bathing. Apparently it is possible to stay here without including the meals. Doing that, I think, would be a mistake. The food here is simply outstanding! The ingredients are fresh and delicious, while the menu offers a plentiful variety of kaiseki dishes. The only drawback to this hotel is the location. It is a bit difficult to get to from Hakodate station. Apparently they offer a shuttle service from the nearby airport, though I did not take advantage of this service. There is also nothing to do in the surrounding area, but that isn’t really an issue since you will be spending every second inside the hotel.
Morton G — Google review
What an amazing stay at this wonderful ryokan. The room is luxurious with onsen bath with a view. Plenty of amenities, snacks, tea, coffee to enjoy. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast is delicious with wonderful service. We stayed here for 2 nights mid May 2025, the menu is different every day and both meals are served in a private room overlooking the zen garden. Location is a bit further from downtown Hakodate.
Carl W — Google review
The location is a bit away from most of the tourist spots but is actually perfect because of that, the tram is a block away for easy access. Two-level suite room is awesome, just note the upper level can be hot with the bath there. Public bath is huge. Lounge area makes a good spot to relax with a drink and ice cream.
John Z — Google review
It's going to be hard to summarize how amazing this hotel is but I'll do my best! In short, if you are looking for a luxurious ryokan experience and can afford to stay, or you get a deal like I did, it is so worth staying here for a night or two. From the second you walk into the lobby, you know you are in for a special experience. It is so fancy and luxurious. You are greeted with local desserts and hot tea. The tea room/cafe is spacious, comfortable and has free coffee and tea. There is a library area with books you could read or just where you can bring your own book to read. There's a billiards table as well. The long, spacious bar has excellent drinks, including a seasonal menu when I was there, and is a great place to relax at night. All of this overlooks a beautiful zen garden, and the water features in the lobby give the appearance that all of these spaces are floating. The room is equally impressive as well. My wife and I stayed in the Suite Type A, and I couldn't believe how nice it was. The bathroom upstairs has two sinks, as well as the beautiful private onsen that you can access at any time. This was really convenient, and really lovely to relax in. Down the stairs brings you to the two beds, a tatami mat room, the toilet and a living room area. The mini-fridge is stocked with complementary drinks and snacks, and there's a coffee machine and tea pot to make drinks in your room if you would like. The two types of lounge wear (yukata and the "monk's clothes") were really comfortable. It is a great place to rest, unwind and relax. On the top floor, you can access the Sky Salon, which overlooks the town and has comfortable seats and massage chairs for you to relax in. You can also get complimentary drinks, snacks and ice cream up here. This is also where you can access the open-air onsen, the communal indoor onsens, and the sauna. My wife and I have tattoos so we were not allowed to use these facilities, but I did not mind since we had the one in our suite to use as well. But it is important to note if that is a dealbreaker for you. The service is also top notch, especially when it comes to the dining here. Definitely make sure to eat at this ryokan, it is an incredible 6-course dinner with high-quality ingredients, thoughtful dishes and absolutely delicious food. The breakfast is just as elegant and high quality. And the private dining rooms you get to eat in are absolutely gorgeous. These meals were one of the main highlights of our stay here. The service at Bourou Noguchi, both at dinner and outside of the meals, were top notch. The staff is so wonderful and friendly, very helpful and willing to help with whatever you may need. There's also a complementary taxi service. They picked us up from the airport, and drove us to the train station in the morning. In short, definitely make this hotel a priority if you are coming to Hakodate. You will not regret it
Bobby B — Google review
Even if the price is a bit expensive, it's still worth it. The rooms are massive, with a hot tub full of water always waiting for you. The hotel might look a bit old, but it provides a lot. The check in process is very luxury, while having a very luxurious dining experience. The onsen public bath is massive. There is a lounge with free unlimited acsecc to soft serve, beer. Highball, and champagne. However, some parts are a bit old and the location isn't near downtown.
Kris C — Google review
This hotel is located in the onsen area. We thoroughly enjoyed the private onsen in the room. The hotel is abit dated and old but it is overall a good one. The service quality is good too particularly from Tomode-san. She speaks good English, is knowledgeable and very helpful. Thank you.
Sandra — Google review
Had the most wonderful 3d2n stay at the start of July that I decided to change my hotel when coming back to Hakodate just so that I could stay with them again. Loved it so much again, I booked a 4d3n stay in Feb next year! Great location, lawsons outside (not that you will need it), awesome service (Thank you Motode!!), best food I've had for breakfast and dinner in a hotel/ryokan in Japan and a warm natural onsen in your own room! Massage was great too! (Thank you Ueno!) While I was staying there, I had some unique requests to the hotel such as early breakfast, dinner with friends in another room (different seating arrangements), and sending my luggage from Hakodate. I didn't know the shop handles the luggage delivery so I went pass 8pm (please go before 8pm) but Motode still helped me send all my luggage since I had an early train to catch the next day. Breakfast was also arranged for me earlier than the restaurant opened and since I wanted to book a few rooms for February, Motode even wrote me a card since she was off the next day. (She left work late because of me! So sorry!!!) (Management please acknowledge her hard work!!) Thank you Motode! Went for a massage the first time I was there it was so good that when I went to second time I went again. Ueno is super skilled and I'll love to bring her back with me! hahaha Thank you Ueno! Perfect hotel! You'll never regret your stay here!

I was very looking forward to stay here especially with Private onsen in the room and good size living room 👍🏻 Especially check in staff, she is good, friendly and well Spoken English however I was a little disappointed booking under my name and hotel staff didn’t notice was my actual birthday No action from hotel 🥲 Actually we had an advance dinner reservation the same evening and we have to request restaurant to purchase cake 🎂 for us and charge to room bill. Especially restaurants we did tell them 1 person doesn’t take nuts but we have to remind twice to ensure no nuts in room . To improve!! — > Since wasn’t crowded and off peak period, >The room refrigerator drinks are free but just few cans of beers and green tea, more options. >some parts of the room needs renovation / upgrade to the same standard as hotel lobby. The price paid was nearly US$500 per night. Overall staff are friendly just didn’t notice some details that is important Anyway hotel is nice & quiet.

Nestled just a short stroll from JR Hakodate Train Station, Route Inn Grantia Hakodate Ekimae offers a cozy retreat for travelers seeking both comfort and convenience. This unpretentious hotel features modestly decorated rooms equipped with tea makers and private bathrooms, ensuring a pleasant stay. Guests can unwind in the public hot-spring bath located on the 13th floor, which boasts stunning views of the city skyline.
Didn’t take a room photo — small, Japanese style. Love this hotel near the station. Full facilities: top-floor public bath with sauna and brand DHC, coffee & ice machines, vending. Room has adjustable AC and fridge. Staff are very nice and always smiling. You can leave luggage before check-in and after check-out.
Thitiwan F — Google review
The good thing about this hotel is that it is right by the Hakodate station. The room was super small but the view was good. The window was able to open.. the onsen was very simple and have not much amenities. The view onsen was covered up probably to prevent people to see inside from the outside. Doesn't feel much effect of the hot spring water and I accidentally tasted it.. they are salty. Service, most of the staff are quite polite except for a few breakfast female staff who looks irritated. The breakfast was so so.. nothing much to brag about. No salmon sashimi and salmon roe on my stay which was a shame. If looking for a real onsen experience hotel in Hakodate, then probably you gotta look for other hotel. Only 1 small pool available and sauna. Depends on your budget. This onsen pool are more like communal bath rather than onsen. Oh ya, the massage machines are quite affordable.
Ryan P — Google review
Pretty good clean hotel with nice service. Rooms were a decent size, cleaning available daily unless you put the sign on the door, APA and toyoko inn won't clean rooms everyday, just once every 3-4 days, so route inn has them beat there. Tried the public bath and sauna and both were great. Tip: bring a disposable bath sponge available in room and in lobby to clean yourself in the public bath makes it much faster.
David T — Google review
It's not a super-fancy place - but it is ideally located for train-travelers. They had a very good breakfast buffet (open 6:30-9) There is a pleasant, very clean and very well equipped onsen on the top floor available to hotel clients for free. We had a twin non-smoking room, it was of course small by US standards but perfectly adequate for two of us, we thought it was more spacious and comfy than some of the reviewers had suggested. The staff were friendly, one of them spoke English. They have an excellent espresso maker free in the lobby (limited hours) Overall, we were perfectly content for our 2 night stay...

So helpful; the gentleman was ready to share so have directions with us after going out off his way to find a map of the area for us. Also noticed that they have clear signage saying they offer a safe evacuation zone for people during tsunamis

All about location. Close to main lines of the trams, just across the street to the JR main station. Rooms are basic with japanese aize style, but the batheoom is much smaller than usual. It is OK for a very short atay in a very central place. Be aware that the main entrance moving sensor for the door to opwn is not working in some cases, the staff dont care about it, even if waited for several minutea just to enter the hotel, twice.
Arie P — Google review
Room and Hotspring were very clean. I booked smoking room, but hotel could change my room non-smoking, it was very grad for me. There is free coffee service, so I could enjoy hot coffee in room and outside hotel when travelling. The hotel located very near from station just 2-3 min to walk. Very good place for sightseeing Hakodate.
KAWARASAKI K — Google review
Located right next to the JR train station in Hakodate, this hotel is a prime spot if you want to visit the morning market directly across the street. Lots of seafood Izakayas nearby and convenience shops... You probably won't want to leave the hotel though because they have a hot spring water filled onsen on the top floor, equipped with massage chairs, a laundry room, and plenty of vending machines! The only thing I deducted 1 star for was that the room was a bit small, and placement of their bathroom doors... Maybe it's a Japanese thing but all in all, highly recommend for your travels to Hakodate!

Yunokawa Prince Hotel Nagisatei is a well-established hotel in Hakodate, located in the Yunokawa Onsen area with a great view of the Tsugaru Strait. The hotel offers 186 rooms, with 115 featuring private outdoor onsen hot springs. Guests can enjoy relaxing soaks in hinokiburo Japanese cypress wood baths or iwaburo stone baths at any time.
Loved having our own private onsen facing the ocean. We took 3 or 4 baths a day. Breakfast was also overlooking the ocean and beach. It was a super relaxing stay. They have Netflix on tv so you can sign into your own account and binge Harry Potter when you're not in the onsen 😆
Jessica Z — Google review
This hotel is absolutely amazing. The rooms are spacious. We had a private Onsen on our balcony with a sea view. The breakfast buffet was absolutely delicious, with many selections. The qualities of the food were excellent. I highly recommend this hotel.
Francis L — Google review
Relaxed and comfortable onsen hotel with a private hot spring bath in our room overlooking the ocean — we could even see the Hakodate mountain ropeway from the bathroom! We stayed for two nights in a tatami room, where the futons are packed away each morning and set up again between 7–8pm. The breakfast buffet was lovely, with a great selection of both Japanese and Western options, and the desserts were amazing. The make-your-own kaisendon station was a fun highlight and everything was great quality. Dinner buffet can be added on the day, but we missed out on the teppanyaki as it needs to be booked three days in advance — it would have been helpful if this information was available when we booked. Luckily, we found a great Gengiskan grill nearby instead. There’s free parking for guests, which made it easy to drive to Hakodate’s main attractions (around 10 minutes away). A 7-Eleven is just across the road, with a Lawson a short walk away and a few restaurants nearby. The lobby has self-serve toiletries, tea bags, and lollies, plus a great range of yukata to choose from. You can even rent different types of pillows for free if you prefer posture pillows to the traditional Japanese ones provided. A relaxing and enjoyable stay — would happily come back again.
Sharyn C — Google review
We booked japanese-style room with private onsen in the room. The view is amazing and we took advantage of night baths under the moonlight! The choices of yukata also amazing and our family love them. Location is about 10 mins drive from main city with convenience shop across the road and few choices of restaurants only minutes of walk away.

I reserved room with private onsen and room was spacious and modern. The private onsen was at balcony and had beautiful view of ocean. Loved the bathroom amenities I was able to use Refa blow dryer which I have been excited to try out. Location was close to many places such as tropical garden which had the onsen bathing monkeys and if your able to snag a reservation Sushi-Dokoro Kihara I highly recommend. There also is ramen restaurant nearby that was delicious and Lawson to get and other food you need. Quick drive to station if your taking bullet train back to Tokyo. Staff was friendly and helpful in storing luggage.

Amazing hotel with great services. We had the room with private onsen and thoroughly enjoyed it. It has the view of the ocean and was honestly super calming and comfortable enjoying the bath looking at the sea. We also had the floor mats which were surprisingly comfortable to sleep on. They were prepared by the staff when we went out for dinner. The staff was very attentive and spoke relatively good English. There is an area where you can borrow different types of pillows and various designs of yukatas for the stay which made the experience more personal.

A simple hotel in a quiet town. But was peaceful! Need to take bus 95, 95A or 96 from Hakodate JR station. Must book a room with private onsen! The rest of the rooms did not have sea view or a proper bed. Good breakfast. Friendly staff. Somewhat something was missing due to language barrier. You can select your pillows but I had to tell the lady who was walking me to the elevator. Human touch amiss. The sea view from your room with onsen was nice. A walk on the beach was great with views if sunset. Hotel is near 7 11 and Lawson.

If you love the ocean and onsen this is the hotel for you. It is a bit far from the station but easily accessible by bus only a block away. You can also take a taxi for about 2000 yen. We took a taxi to and from the station upon arrival and departure but took the bus the rest of our time. This is a very large hotel. I don't think English is widely spoken. We speak Japanese and the reservations were made in Japanese but I would still recommend you stay even if you do not speak Japanese. We had two rooms with private onsen overlooking the ocean. I went in the onsen morning, afternoon and night. They also have a lovely public bath but we only went once just to check it out. No need when we had one in our room. We had one western and one Japanese room. The western bed is still basically on the floor. If you have difficulty getting up from the floor it might be difficult. The breakfast buffet was amazing. All Japanese hotels have amazing buffets but I dare say this might be the largest I've seen. It is also a very large hotel so they are accommodating a lot of people. We had the dinner buffet one night and it was impressive as well. A lovely gift shop which we took advantage of. Several other restaurants onsite which we did not take advantage of. I would recommend staying at least two nights to fully relax and enjoy the view and onsen.

ICHINOMATSU Ryokan is a traditional Japanese lodging located in Hakodate, Hokkaido. The cozy hot spring hotel offers simple rooms with tatami mats and free meals. Guests can enjoy the public bath, open-air bath, and garden views. The 5-star ryokan provides full-day security and luggage storage space. It's a great choice for those seeking a traditional Japanese environment with access to a hot spring.
Meals served were fantastic and promptly served. We enjoyed our 2 night stay here. Staff were friendly and helpful. They made our stay here memorable

This is about a ~20 minute bus ride from the Hakodate station, but I loved the aesthetic and service at this ryokan. They take your shoes and luggage at the front so it feels very intimate, and the prepared breakfast and dinner were also excellent. However, I was disappointed that they tried to charge us for early check-in when we were checking out...because we didn't check in early. Thankfully it didn't require an argument but it was very unnecessary...why do that to your customers?
Ted W — Google review
Very well kept ryokan hotel, the room was exactly what we wanted. We were on the second floor but very easy staircase. Didn't eat here but did use the onsen. I'd stay here again at this price.
Jim V — Google review
Great traditional Japanese experience for a fraction of the price of some other ryokans. Amazing detail in the food. Fantastic service and onsen.
Emerina B — Google review
Super stay at this traditional onsen inn! It’s an easy 5 minutes walk from the tram stop and it is a peaceful and hospitable place to stay. We stayed for 2 nights with breakfast included (you have it in your room, the staff come to roll up your tatami 30 mins before - we just went to the onsen during this time) which was traditional Japanese style and delicious. The onsens are not too big but there are outdoor and indoor sections and perfectly adequate. The staff look after you warmly and we loved our experience of traditional Japanese culture here. Oh, and it’s near the Botanical Gardens where we saw monkeys bathing in the onsen.
Ivan Y — Google review
The traditional Japanese ryokan stay is amazing! From walking into the hotel entrance to the room, to dinner, to Onsen, to bedtime and breakfast in our room, to the moment we left feel welcomed and fantastic. We are treated like king and queen. This place is very traditional which at first I thought it might be old and worn out, but it is not! Staff are so nice and police, and the place is very clean and quiet. We will go back!
Cherry C — Google review
Fantastic and authentic onsen. They spoke English and were very helpful in explaining everything. The food presentation was so intense and one incredible experience. I highly recommend going and spoiling yourself. They provide all clothing to wear, including shoes for certain areas and towels etc. Baths are separated from male and female and they didn't mind if you have tattoos.
Critical J — Google review
Perfect authentic Japanese ryokan experience with impeccable service and great food (breakfast and dinner inclusive, alcohol was cheap too) - exactly what we were looking for! Our room was very spacious with a beautiful view of the public park and a bit of the ryokan’s Japanese garden (> 10 tatami living space + bathroom). Everything was spotless clean and the deco was authentic and traditional. Shampoo and lotion were all Shiseido :) Onsen was salt based, with both outdoor and indoor pools (quite small but very relaxing, there were very few others). The staff were definitely the highlight of our stay. We were welcomed by all staff at the ryokan when we arrived (we did not even tell them when we planned to arrive), and although their English was relatively limited we managed to communicate very well with no troubles at all. We even had a lot of conversations with them with my broken Japanese. Highly recommend if you’re after a traditional Japanese ryokan experience. Would definitely stay here again if we visit Hakodate next time!

Mount Hakodate, standing at 1,096 feet tall, is a popular spot for taking in stunning city views. Accessible by cable car or hiking trail, it offers a breathtaking panorama of the city lights below. The area also holds historical significance as a cemetery for foreigners with Western religious beliefs dating back to the late 19th century.
Absolutely breathtaking views. Bought the ticket for the ropeway via online. It is easy and convenient. Went in the afternoon. As I left in the evening more and more people started to flood the area. So going in the afternoon can possibly avoid the large crowds. Of course the skyline would be different. This is a MUST VISIT in Hakodate!
Freckle S — Google review
One of the famous views in Japan, definitely cannot miss this if you visit Hakodate! Recommend coming up here one hour before sunset, and seeing both the daylight and night views of the city, it's absolutely stunning. Just note that if you go during peak season, the queue for the ropeway done can be insanely long, we had to wait over an hour to go down.
Alvin W — Google review
Mount Hakodate offers one of the most stunning views in Hokkaido. The sunset is absolutely breathtaking, and once night falls, the sparkling lights create a magical panorama that’s unforgettable. It’s a must-visit spot, especially for photographers and couples. However, be prepared for strong, chilly winds at the top even in warmer months. Also, it can get quite crowded during peak hours, so arriving early is a good idea if you want the best viewing spot. The frequency of ropeway will increase to every 5 mins during prime time so it’s still fast to get up to and down from top.
Peng C — Google review
Mt. Hakodate is breathtaking panoramic view. A quick ropeway ride takes you to the top where the city spreads beautifully between the bays. I went during the day and enjoyed clear views of Goryōkaku and the coastline. But I regret not staying for the famous night view, which is ranked among the world’s top three. Next time, I won't miss it!
Chalermchon S — Google review
You purchase the ticket because you expect to see the beautiful view, maybe during the sunset, and have a good time... The truth is that the place is overcrowded, and many view points are blocked by construction site materials, or by paid services to have your picture taken with the best view. Things are not well organized and you basically pay a ticket for the sakes of paying a ticket to ride the ropeway 🤷🏻‍♀️ Super disapointing experience, honestly.
Mariana D — Google review
We went there before 4 pm and after 9 pm because we can drive our car top of the mountain with free. Only taxi and bus can be up there between 4-9pm. It was amazing. I was told this place is one of 3 best night view in Japan.
Don L — Google review
This is a must visit, if you are in Hakodate. Take the cable car up and you will be treated with a wonderful view. We timed our visit to see the sunset.
Samvel K — Google review
We came here for the sunset view and the night city scape. There are 3 ways of getting to the summit (350m): ropeway- 3 min, car- 5-10 min (before 17:00) and walk - 45-60 min. We chose to walk up and ride the ropeway down. The trail was well marked and maintained. Many old and big trees pave the way. As we approach, we were treated with nice views of the bay. It took us about 50 min without any rest stop. We highly recommend this short hike, if you have the time.

Fresh food market
Hakodate Morning Market Square is a bustling hub of activity from the early hours, making it an ideal spot for a delightful morning experience. Divided into several sections, this market near Hakodate Station offers a wide array of local breakfast options and takeout meals. Additionally, during the first six days of August, the area around the port comes alive with food stalls and vibrant festivities during the Hakodate port festival.
From a tourist's point of view, this morning market is more than well worth a visit - with a lot to see and a lot to eat; especially if you are a lover of seafood. The morning market here in Hakodate (the latter is also known the Squid Capital of Japan) showcases the freshest of seafood with the eye catching Hokkaido Red King Crab and the "giant" Hokkaido oysters among others - such as other types of seafood and moreish dried snacks made from seafood. And there is a local produce section in the morning market, showcasing Hokkaido's famous fruits such as its Melon and famous crop such as its sweet corn. So do not miss out on this morning market if you are visiting Hakodate.
Edtayjb — Google review
Fancy a morning market walkabout? Visit this morning market that has a food court, multiple small stalls that either have fresh seafood, dry & wet local produce or snacks. Eating area decent size to eat in. Not too crowded unless a bumper bus load of tourists arrives. Tip, if you fancy some crab porridge, look for the stalls outside of this market at the perimeters.
Mervyn P — Google review
Wonderful market that is a must see when visiting Hakodate. A time to experience Japanese culture and cuisine. The market is full of fresh seafood and many restaurants as well as shops for souvenirs. Amazing fresh fruit that is ripe and sweet.
Adam D — Google review
Good place to get fresh seafood and dry seafood as well. There are local tourist and oversea tourist visiting this morning market. It is clean and there is a toilet in the common hall where you can get different types of seafood dishes. Interesting sight to see.

Take your time to go around. If you're hungry you will no doubt get hungrier as you move. Do some research before going in. If you happen to rely on a Google review, look out for this store. You can get really nice king crab, fresh and then cooked to eat at the side. Fresh Oyster are like 3300yen for 8 pcs. (Or 800yen e.a.)

Very well maintained small domestic airport! No long lines, walking to gates, security checkpoints is only a few minutes away! Staff are all very polite & friendly!

Small local domestic airport. It’s really a minimum what an airport should have. A runway, a collection belt and couple of essential shops like convenience store and car rental stores. However there is no customs counters here.

The hotel provides concierge service, a treatment room, and children's menu at a cost of 103US$ per night. Guests can stay in rooms with open-air baths; however, some guests have reported issues with the bath facilities.
Very amazing experience at the Hanabishi Hotel. Customer service was amazing, and I think this may have been the nicest hotel I’ve ever been too. The Onsen was 10/10 and the room was beautiful. If you are staying in Hakodate, you need to stay here. ❤️🇨🇦
Samuel G — Google review
The atmosphere and hotel itself was good, however I think the staff could use a bit more tact. We stayed at the open air bath in room 101 and that was nice. However one major issue that arose was how difficult it is to communicate with them after the stay. One of us forgot a considerable amount of money in the room and only noticed afterwards, and ever since we have tried to contact them via web to no response. Stayed the 23rd of October this year (a week ago from this review) and we still couldn't manage to get in touch up until yesterday when we could finally make a call (due to various other circumstances), however the receptionist couldnt offer us any help from their side at all from what it looks like and even though the situation looks bleak, it would be great if we could get help of any kind while we are still in Japan. Otherwise I'd have to keep the low score for lack of contact options, slow responses and frankly ineptitude when dealing with customers.

I stayed for one night from Sunday to Monday so the price was quite reasonable and included really nice course dinner and a breakfast. Onsen is really nice and has an indoor and outdoor areas with different temperatures including a cold pond.

It was quite nice stay, the room was clean and specious. The food and the onsen were okay, I have experienced better ones, but it was still very nice and relaxing. The staff was polite and helpful, and it's just one bus/tram to get to the hotel from Hakodate Station.
Monika B — Google review
The only reason that I give the hotel this rating instead of five stars is because there are areas in the hotel that are smoking and Im sensitive to the smell. My boyfriend couldn't tellost of the time. Otherwise, the hotel was very nice. Room was clean and the food was delicious. The outdoor hot spring was very nice. I liked that there was a cold pool in the outdoor bath as well as the three hot pools.
Kateryna — Google review
The room and the hotel were quite nice and the staff were very helpful. The meal was also quite good, but it was served in a large banquet hall which where you had to help yourself to things like miso soup and rice. I would have preferred to eat in my room or a private room like many other Ryokan I've visited. However, the private a paid was quite reasonable. If I were to visit again I think I would spend more to get a better plan, if one is available.

Tokyu Stay Hakodate Asaichi Akarinoyu is a relaxed hotel offering breakfast and an ice-cream parlor, as well as a rooftop communal bath with port views. Situated within close proximity to several attractions, including Motomachi Catholic Church and The Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward, the hotel also features a hot spring bath and a 24-hour front desk. Guests have praised the strategic location near the JR Station and Fish Market, with amazing views.
Highly recommend this hotel. Cleanliness and front desk service best! Public bath is available, washing machine with dryer and microwave in room is incredibly useful. Hotel location is nice, just next to the market. Hotel outdoor parking cost ¥1000 per day, just next to the hotel. Lawson and 7-eleven is within walking distance. We are so lucky to get the room with a nice view. Last but not least, we will be back to stay at this hotel again.

Excellent hotel. Hot spring bath on the rooftop, epic views of the area, right next to the station. But the highlight if you are travelling is a washer/dryer combo in your room at no extra charge! I have never seen this anywhere in Japan in my travels. Makes logistics so easy. Very impressive detail that earns the 5 stars. The staff were excellent, room was super clean. This is a great option in this area, especially if you like seafood. The breakfast option provides coupons you can spend at the fish market 3 min walk away. If you don’t like seafood skip the breakfast coupons but if you like seafood this is a home run. Great spot. If you are lucky they will have rooms facing ocean side, really beautiful views. Also on floor 17 there is a beautiful lounge with amazing views as well in case you aren’t facing it from your room.

Great hotel located within a few minutes walking from Hakodate Station. Of course the main appeal of the hotel is having your own laundry machine and mini kitchen inside the room. Even though they provide bottles of water, I enjoyed being able to make more drinking water in the kettle myself. One note about the laundry is that the drying cycle took 3 hours even with just half the drum full! It’s an easy price to pay given the convenience, but something to be aware of. The onsen was nice as well. Overall a great hotel
Jeff — Google review
This hotel is strategically located right across the street from the Morning Market. Can’t be any closer. It has just about everything a value-for-money traveller could want in a city hotel and then some. Main room attraction is the washing machine cum dryer - a real life saver. Room view was lovely especially at night. Free ice machine upstairs. If you book a room with an “onsen” just note it works more like a bathtub. The switch for the “onsen” is located outside the bathroom, so once the onsen is full you need to get out and switch it off manually or the water will overflow. I didn’t see an overflow outlet. Interestingly, this onsen water is cloudy! If you were to run water separately from the 2 taps on the wall, the water filling the onsen is clear! I never got to ask reception about this! Maybe anyone in future can find out and do a review on this. Counter staff try their best but perhaps due to language proficiency, they do have an awkward mannerism if there are queries outside the norm. Since there was a check out crowd, I didn’t get to ask about the onsen water. I might have gotten an awkward reaction again 😆. Carpark is paid. No room for negotiations. I guess for the room rate, another ¥1000/day is ok since not everyone drives. The instructions can be confusing - so the ¥1000/day is for a full day and applies each day from checkin till check out. If you arrive and park earlier before check in time of 3pm, prorata costs for the difference has to be paid at the gantry when leaving on the last day. In between, you exchange your original drive in ticket for a hotel one each time you plan to exit. Overall a good, comfy & reasonably priced hotel. 👍.

Comfortable stay in a great location. My room was a good size and had everything needed for a comfortable stay (including washing machine). The ryokan was a real treat after a long day exploring and the sitting area in the hotel was a nice spot for relaxing. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful! The location made things easy - there is a Kombini nearby, lots to see within walking distance (the market and the warehouse district are nearby) and the train station with the airport shuttle is very close. The only thing I wished for was an in hotel breakfast area, but overall I would absolutely stay there again and will look at this hotel chain in other areas for upcoming travel.

This is a great place to stay. Our room was pretty spacious (by Japanese standards), modern, and spotless. The bed was comfortable. There's no significant work area to speak of, just a small round table. The bathroom was fairly compact, but still had a full-sized bathtub. Water pressure was really good. The shower curtain smelled pretty strongly of mildew, but after mentioning this to the front desk, it was replaced quickly. The in-room washer-dryer was the standout feature -- it's not often you see this in the US. It's perfect for people who like to travel light. Air conditioning was good, and didn't blow excessively onto the bed. Wi-fi was fast and reliable. There's a decent coffee/tea machine (serving both hot and cold) in the lobby that's free for guests, available all day. We also had a night-time drink in the penthouse lounge, which has great views of the water and Mount Hakodate. My wife went to the onsen public bath at the top of the hotel and found it to be very pleasant and relaxing. Location was terrific -- just a 5 minute walk from the train station, and right next door to the amazing morning market. The tram is also a short walk away. Service was good, as expected. The front desk staff was polite and spoke English well.

This review is for the relaxation spa inside the hotel. 5 stars, I wish I could give 10! I just had the best massage of my life with Takemoto. She is incredibly skilled, intuitive, and listens to the body. I feel like I’m walking on a cloud after having a massage with her. The whole environment was also so relaxing inside. Our client stayed in the suite room with private onsen for 3 nights we booked the hotel because the good comment of all the visitor who stayed at this hotel before and because we know the superb quality of their sister in lake toya the nonokaze but surprisingly the hotel was just average even i consider low quality. 1. the staff service was bad upon check in no one is helping our luggage. remember that we are paying big money to stay in this hotel ( suite room for 3 nights) 2. we are asking the extra towel and special size of yukata. but they forgot to delivered 3. the front office staff ( ladies) was poor attitude does not show proper respect or japanese warmest greeting. ( very cold) 4. my client room was warm even the air conditioned was on. and i ask the reception to check the room but the reception lady said the temperature of the ac was at the lowest and they can only bring electric fan. i said to the lady reception that you better ask your manager and send enginering to check the room first instead of arguing with me ( i used to be hotelier my self with long experience in hotel industry) the aircond problem sometimes happened because the dirt blocking the air. finally she agreed to send some one. 5. the room is just standard we can not consider the room as a suite room 6. when we wanted to send our suitecase/bags to the next hotel the staff just said you can send it from their sister hotel on next building at 4 pm ( we come down and bring the luggage at 10 am) the staff should say " we are sorry to inform that you can only send the bags at our sister hotel at 4 pm or she can say like let us help your bags on COD bill if the next hotel able to handle it I will never suggest this hotel again to my client

The air conditioning in the room is totally not working. Only heating with no cooling. Feel so stuffy like sauna. End up opening the windows to let cold 7 Celsius air come in.

This is one of my best onsen resort. Stayed a night before at Hotel Banso, Uminokaze is modern, rooms are huge, nicely renovated and one word: Exquisite. Also, you can use the sister hotel onsen! Details: Transport: Located right beside “sister” hotel: Yumoto Takubokutei and entrance is closer to the sea. The entrance is blackish, won’t miss it. From Hakodate JR, taxi cost $1680-2020 (depending which type taxi, the black big ones are more expensive). By tram, alight at Yunokawaonsen station and walk about 5-10 mins depending on snow conditions. Rooms: 5/5 Huge rooms, sea facing, high floors which lets you see the sea, floor is heated, scent diffuser by your bed! Onsen: 5/5 1. The “Relax” onsen is huge. There is also a standing onsen along with 2 normal type and 3 tubs of sake and another 2 tubs which I don’t know what’s in it. Every well maintain. 2. You can access the sister hotel onsen but I didn’t like it too much as it is a public bath area at 11F and very crowded. For first-timer: wear the yukata or the 2 piece, bring the bag with both big/small towels. Small towels are to wipe dry once you finished before entering the dressing up place. Restaurants: 4/5 Small but exquisite. I only have breakfast buffet. Dinner buffet is $6600. The breakfast spread includes DIY Kaisen Don. Shops: 4/5 Besides it’s own shop which has snacks, the sister hotel shop is almost a 7-eleven. Language: Speaks little English but you get by with pointing. They are more fluent in mandarin. Overall: excellent. The pictures advertised are similar to what you get!

ラビスタ函館ベイ ANNEX is a convenient Hakodate Onsen hotel located just a short walk from the train station. The rooms are clean, bright, and functional, and the staff is always courteous and ready to help. Guests can enjoy a private Onsen on-site. The breakfast buffet is outstanding and abundant. However, some guests have expressed frustration with the breakfast process as they had to wait in line for entrance cards despite vacant tables being available.
The newer of the two la vista hotels. Was relatively quiet during my stay. Booked a suite with the balcony onsen, which was excellent and truly hot spring water. Nice view from the balcony. Hotel staff were polite and helpful. Location was good, a short walk from the jr station, about 15 minutes in the snow, but probably quicker without ice on the sidewalks. Included breakfast was very good as well, quality ingredients and ample tables. Only downside’s were that the bed was very hard, though we were still able to get a good nights rest. Phone in the hotel room does not dial out at all, no local calls or anything only room to room. Price was a bit high for the area all things considered but the room was quite large and the bathroom floors are all heated except for outside. Make note, brown towels in the room are for hot springs water as the water seems to be high in iron and will leave brown residue on the white towels. Would definitely stay here again, dormy brand hotels have been pretty consistent in quality everywhere I’ve stayed in them in Japan.

I think the best of this hotel is the onsen. 3 private and a large public, indoor and outdoor. Breakfast buffet is quite nice. Diner is just average.

Amazing hotel. Great and prompt service. Very good location. Great amenities and amazing breakfast, one of the best i have had in Japan. The spread was so diverse and large! And everything was top notch. Especially the sashimi and freshly grilled scallops. I mean, we weren’t able to try everything even though we wanted to!! I highly recommend staying at this hotel if you plan to visit Hakodate. Mentioning other highlights below: 1. They have public (open to guests only) and 3 private onsen that guests can use. These are amazing and very relaxing after a really cold and long day. You can track if the private onsen is available through a link. It’s very convenient and accurate and we were able to use the private onsen twice in our two night stay 2. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. They also provide clothes and a winter jacket along with slippers that you can wear in the hotel. There are two views that you get from the hotel, view of the mountain range and view of the city. Our room had the city view and you could set the ocean on a day with clear skies. 3. Complimentary ramen daily in the club lounge for all guests, from 9.30pm-10.30pm. Take a dip in the onsen and go grab your ramen 4. Complimentary ice-cream on the lounge floor 5. Multiple vending machines, ice machines and smoking rooms 6. The staff was super helpful and helped send our luggage to Tokyo through Yamato service. They also filled out our form

Very spacious room can sleep 4, the breakfast varieties is awesome, from shashimi to grilled seafood and many varieties of traditional japanses cuisine . Just the timing is a hit early, until 9am for latest sit in and close at 930am sharp . Hot spring onsen not very big and quite crowded. Location is good as easy to walk to main tourist spots, walking distance to many eatery places and also morning market. Walking distance to cable car station as well. Price is reasonable for non peak period .

You will be chargee 150JPY during checkout for each person (not mentioned when check in). This is a tax for hotels with onsen. Otherwise i recommend the Japanese mix western room Can fit in into 5 people. I can bring my parents to sleep on bed, while i sleep on Tatami Hotel have nice view to Hakodateyama A quiet hotel very lovely The staffs are helpful They also have umbrellas if you need to borrow They give you pyjamas (changed new fresh during room cleaning) Not a walking distance from station, i have to order taxi to get to hotel

Specialty Museums
The Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum is a modest yet significant museum dedicated to the historical figure Ryoma Sakamoto. It houses various exhibits and artifacts related to his life and contributions. Notably, Sakamoto played a crucial role in the political landscape of present-day Hakodate, facilitating peaceful negotiations between Choshu and Satsuma. This led to the alliance's efforts in overthrowing the Bakufu, which greatly impacted Japan's history.
In Hakodate, there is the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Hall. Sakamoto Ryoma was a Japanese samurai, a shishi and influential figure of the Bakumatsu, and establishment of the Empire of Japan in the late Edo period. I was confused, Sakamoto Ryoma was born in Shikoku and died in Kyoto, what does it have to do with #Hokkaido? I looked up Wikipedia and couldn't find the answer, so I paid 800 yen 💴 to go to the memorial hall to find out. Sakamoto Ryoma's involvement in Hokkaido colonization began in 1864, but he withdrew from the plan due to the impact of the Ikedaya Incident. After establishing Kaientai, he procured the ship "Wild Wave" for the journey, which tragically sank, taking 12 lives. His subsequent attempts with "Iroha-maru" and "Daigyokumaru" also failed due to unfortunate accidents and payment issues. This series of setbacks ended with Ryoma's assassination, leaving his dream of Hokkaido colonization unfulfilled. Despite these hardships, he retained his passion for Hokkaido's development till his last moments, as revealed in his letters.

(Translated by Google) Visited 2025/04/27 First of all, it was nice that it was open from 8am. I understand Ryoma very well. Ryoma fans in Hokkaido should definitely visit! Also, there are a lot of Japanese swords on display, so it was interesting because I don't get to see them very often. However, it does have a certain Magamaga feel to it. You might say the shine is a bit scary or mysterious, but it's a sword after all. However, ``The sword is not for cutting people, but for cutting your own evil heart.'' Is it because of my own evil heart that I think the sword is scary? That's what I thought when I watched it. The shop sells Ryoma goods and goods of Bakumatsu patriots, so I went shopping there. Also, the director is a very nice person. I came here this time on a motorcycle called Suzuki Katana, and when I mentioned it, he asked, "Can I take a photo?" So we talked for a while (lol) If I come to Hakodate again, I will stop by. Tonetsu is a cozy restaurant with limited seating that offers delicious and generously portioned tonkatsu dishes. The food is simple but expertly prepared, with a nice blend of spices and crispy, non-greasy breading. While the place fills up quickly and there may be a wait for the food, the friendly service and fresh, light flavors make it worth it. English menus are available, and visitors can enjoy a variety of condiments to dip their meats into.
Simple comfort food for alot of people. Their pork here is juicy and tender, their rice is fragrant and nice and their coat is light but your aromatic and crispy.

The Katsudon was the perfect comfort food on a cold and rainy day after visiting Mt. Hakodate. My Japanese is very limited, but the staff was very kind and accommodating 🙂. The tatami mat seating was an excellent setting for a great meal. I hope to visit again on a future trip.

Good traditional Tonkatsu restaurant. There is sufficient seating for up to ~20, with a section for floor seating. Tried the curry, katsu and normal Tonkatsu set and all tasted great with generous portions. Family friendly with kid's meal options and utensils. Staff was friendly to kids as well.

Friendly waitstaff and English menu available. Really well prepared and presented tonkatsu. Their special method of frying kept the pork super tender and moist and was less heavy and oily than other restaurants I've eaten at. Tonkatsu was accompanied by very finely shredded cabbage, rice and miso (with top-ups if requested) and a bowl of sesame seeds with a pestle to grind them. Enjoyable meal.

Went there 2 nights in a row! Really loved the food! If my mum knew how to make these dishes, this is definitely what it would taste like xD! Just a few things to note: 1. The place is rather small and fills pretty fast (only about 7 tables of 4-seats each) 2. Suggest to go early because they have limited supply of meat. 3. They don’t have an English menu I think..? (I didn’t try to ask..) 4. Food takes a while to be served. So be patient, it’s worth it imo!

Nestled in the picturesque city of Hakodate, Hotel Global View Hakodate offers a serene retreat with stunning vistas of the Tsugaru Strait. Just a short stroll from JR Hakodate Train Station, this relaxed hot spring hotel features comfortable accommodations equipped with kitchens and laundry facilities, making it feel like a home away from home. Guests can unwind in the spacious onsen or sauna after exploring the vibrant streets nearby.
This hotel room far exceeded my expectations. We got the king room and it was huge, the size of a studio apartment in California! With a mini kitchen and dining area even. For ~$70 USD for one night it was unbelievable. It was a luxurious stay and great service, I wish I stayed longer!
Katie C — Google review
My stay at Hotel Global View Hakodate was overall balanced. I liked the location, a short walk from the station and from the morning market, and I liked the hot springs, nothing spectacular but a nice feature. The room was clean and modern but a bit small and very hot. They did not have any additional fans so I had to rely on opening the window which provided some relief but was not ideal. Also, the coin laundry was the same machine as I used in other hotels, but was twice as expensive to use! Didn’t wash or dry twice as well as far as I could tell. Would consider staying again, but would likely look around at other hotels first.
Kyle ( — Google review
I had a room in the "premium" building. Room is very spacious, almost like an apartment. Location is good enough. Public bath is also very nice. Staff is friendly and helpful. Only some more amenities would be nice and rooms are a little old but OK for the price.
Fernando A — Google review
Note: If you are in the main tower, you probably won't have a laundry machine in your room as most of the reviews here state. Soundproofing wasn't the best, could hear our neighbours at times. Room itself was quite sizable, bathroom could be a bit cleaner. Onsen was nice, but was quite crowded.
Norman C — Google review
Room was a bit small and made more cramped with all our luggage. Bed sheets and pillow case very hard, need some fabric softer, made so much noise whenever we turned in the bed.
Craig G — Google review
The worst experience of our otherwise amazing trip to Japan. We booked a room as non-smokers, only to find that the entire building allows smoking. Our room was filled with a strong cigarette odor, making it unbearable. When we asked about moving to a non-smoking room, we were told we could “upgrade” — but only if we paid an additional $200 USD, bringing the total to over $350 for a room in what is essentially a 2-star hotel. When we requested to cancel the reservation due to the unacceptable conditions, the front desk staff rudely refused — a shocking experience in a country known for its hospitality. We ended up checking out just 15 minutes later and found a clean, smoke-free hotel near the train station with polite and helpful staff. Do not book here. There are much better options nearby that respect guests and offer far better value for your money.
Ferni E — Google review
The personnel is very nice and helpful but the room smells old and moldy. It is very cramped and uncomfortable. Also charging 75$ for a lost keycard is a racket it's twice a price of the room and you can get new keycard for way less than that. Also not that close to the station or the center. I don't recommend it
Sylvain R — Google review
The location isn’t very convenient — it’s about a 30-minute walk to the Red Brick Warehouse and other major attractions. The room was very small and had a lingering smell of cigarette smoke from previous guests. The front desk lady at check-in wasn’t very friendly, although the two male staff members the next day were much more welcoming and helpful. Parking is available for a fee, but spaces are limited. The breakfast was the highlight of our stay — delicious with a wide variety of options plus sashimi. Unfortunately, the onsen was too crowded, so I ended up skipping it. On the plus side, the airport bus stop is conveniently located right next to the hotel.

One of its standout offerings is the rejuvenating hot-spring bathhouse, perfect for soaking away your cares. Hotel Banso provides well-appointed accommodations with options for both Japanese-style and Western-style rooms, catering to diverse preferences.
This is a fantastic onsen hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the facility, bathing and dining, are everything a westerner in Japan could wish for. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is 20 minutes from the station by taxi, but well worth the trip.

Stayed for two nights. Breakfast and dinner are both buffet style, so you can take what you like and how much you like to eat, it also includes soft drinks. Breakfast and dinner menu are slightly different (personally wanted more local-specialised course dinner, but the buffet was also quite satisfying). The onsen is fine, they have two saunas and three different baths. You don’t have the great nature view because it’s in the city but the experience was great. On top of that, they have free ice candy 🍭, cold water and haskap water after the bath which I really enjoyed:)
K N — Google review
We came in just for the Onsen experience, which was fantastic. Fully equipped and clean showers, changing room. Also has a fairly large relaxation room where you can get a water/iceblocks. There are of course also vending machines for other drinks/alcohol. We arrived at about 1800 and it was very quiet, at one point we had the entire facility to ourselves before the crowd started picking up at around 1930 after dinner. The outdoor onsen was fantastic (especially in cold weather), and there are also individual spas/baths, as well as the standard indoor one as well as a "milk" spa. Highly recommended
K B — Google review
Did not sleep here, but did a day trip to the onsen. Onsen opens 13:30. The price is 1300 yen, includes large and small towel that get returned in a bin in the onsen. You walk into the "pre/after area" (leave your shoes to shoe rack) where there is Water and seasonal Juice + ice cream for free. This space has nice view to outside. Then you get to Onsen there are 2 pools outside, but no real view, but on rainy day it rains through really nicely. 1 "steam" sauna has nice smell and 1 dry sauna, is towards finish sauna, but no throwing water and has tv in it. Cooling pool is about 20c. The milky pool was the best thing here and enjoyed it.
Kalle ( — Google review
I came here to use the onsen for a day and was pleased by what this hotel provided. The price was reasonable and includes towels for you to use. Soap and shampoo are also provided in the initial rinsing area too. There are a few different bath options as well. I came around noon and there was no crowd during this time. You can also use the relaxation area which provides refreshments in a tatami room. There is a parking lot for the hotel which is free to use for customers.

Great for one day hot spring visit. You can use the bath without staying at the hotel by paying 1000 yen per person. Very clean and modern interior. Resting area provides free drinks and ice cream which was a pleasant surprise. Highly recommend if you are visiting Hakodate for the first time.
Young-Jay P — Google review
It was a good hot spring. The hot springs for men and women switch between the evening and the morning. Both dinner and breakfast were buffet. The variety of dishes was very rich. The staff will make sushi, steak, tempura, curry, ramen, soba, etc. It was a pleasant hot spring hotel.
HIROKI ( — Google review
Excellent decor and amenities, room and facilities such as spa and buffet restaurant. A bit far from the common must see sights and the JR station many might take to enter the city. As a result, those staying here can be those participating in your groups. That said, it's only a few short blocks from the tram that will take you to much of where you'll want to go so it isn't necessarily out of the way and arguably not a bad compromise for such well-appointed beautifully designed accommodations.

One of my favourite hotels I have stayed at during my trip to Hokkaido this winter. I love the sea view and that there's a cute lil door near the front desk that leads right out to the beach side. I stayed in the tatami room. It was quite comfy and the different parts of the room were segregated by different flooring instead of steps. The toilet and shower are separated as well. There is a humidifier in the room and you can adjust the Aircon on your own as well. The front desk was helpful when I needed help in refilling the water for the humidifier. There's also a souvenir shop at level 1, as well as a children playing area. This hotel is also right next to the botanical gardens where you can walk over and see monkeys skinny dipping in onsen.

I felt comfortable staying at this resort, the view is very beautiful. There are many chairs to relax while enjoying coffee and looking at the ocean. I also went to the onsen on the 8th floor at night, it was quite crowded. I thought the bathroom was too small so I had to wait quite a long time to use it. When checking out, a middle-aged woman provided warm and cheerful service. She was very enthusiastic about taking pictures of us and gave recommendations for good photo spots. I really appreciated that and felt great warmth. Thank you very much

Hotel locate in Yunokawa area that quiet and much less busier than mid town Hakodate area. beach front view that relaxing. Room is clean and big enough. Onsen is good and they have 2 onsen. Breakfast buffet style is a good as average if it could be some salmon or something(but they have ikura). Dinner buffet is really great for it's price . They heal my disappointment from Date's 5 star hotel dinner the night before. I am very enjoy my meal and room.☺️

It's in Yunokawa onsen district meaning it's a bit away from the CBD. It's not economical (taxi fare) or convenient if you don't have a car. However it's by the ocean and we loved it. The service was amazing. Breakfast with bottomless Ikura (salmon roe) was also fantastic. The room was compact but is new and modern. We loved Hakodate and the accommodation was one of the reasons. It would be fantastic if they offered a shuttle bus service.

This hotel is right next to the sea, which is uncommon as many seaside hotel still have some distance from the sea. This makes the view much prettier, especially if the room is facing the sea. The onsen are facing the sea too, the downside is there are many foreign guests who doesn't respect onsen rules. The hotel might need to increase more educational awareness to such visitors. Dinner is great, serving good food and local seafood.

What I loved the most in this hotel is the sea view from the room. It was refreshing! The breakfast buffet has a variety of seafood and western foods that we also loved. Plus, there’s a rooftop onsen where you can see the beautiful sea and Mount Hakodate (I recommend to enter the onsen early in the morning to watch the sunrise, when it’s not crowded and the view is spectacular!) I highly recommed this hotel especially for families with kids! There’s a garden almost beside the hotel that you can visit, with monkeys dipping in a hot pool (you can feed them if you want). I’m sure your kids will love it!

It is a good value property. It provides corner with unlimited drinks/ice cream. Onsen is small and property is a bit old.

I love this place. The twin room is big and they have an onsen with indoor and outdoor baths. They serve complementary coffee/tea, nice milk soft ice-cream and bubbly....yes bubbly from afternoon thru 10pm daily! Breakfast is a good spread including tuna and octopus sashimi, curry soup, sunny side up and much more. I like their curry soup! A big Aeon supermarket is just about a 300m walk from the hotel. Car park space is big.

Stayed here with my husband and two friends. The rooms were spacious and clean, the hot springs very relaxing, and the food was superb! There was a small corner with unlimited sparkling wine and Hokkaido soft ice cream so we helped ourselves. Coffee was available in the morning. The dinner & breakfast plan we highly recommend. I’d definitely stay here again!

Many had already mentioned this, but, this hotel is Indeed one of the best cost performance hotels you can get. The room was clean and spacious. The onsen is great and fully equipped (incl. saunas), the breakfast was hearty and delicious with many selections of Hokkaido specialties, and of course, free coffee and magnificent Hokkaido soft cream to boost. Will likely be back here when visiting Hakodate again 👍

This is my 7th onsen retreat in Japan and I have visited over 20 ryokans over time. As such, I am quite picky and am used to things. Emi Hakodateya stands out for me as a real 5 star! Its quality is nothing short the most expensive ryokans in Honshu at 300-400 USD per night, but at a fraction of the price. Certain, Hakodate isn't Kyoto or Kobe, but it has still a lot to offer. The breakfast is just amazing. Top quality and buffet. Onsen is simple but great! Well done! Amazing work, keep it up!

After touring around all the day onsens in the Yunokawa area we realised that this is the one we are looking for, so we went back for another 2 days until we pack and leave the city. It's not crowded, always open to day users, good indoor/outdoor pools, very cosy rest area and super nice staff. Perks like free ice cream for hotel guests are available too! Will book a room here next time we visit Hakodate.

We checked in at 8pm on Sep. 7th. The lady at the front desk had a piss poor attitude. There was no greeting or any sense of hospitality. Instead we got a glare like: what are you doing here? We asked for help to bring in the luggage and she pretended to not understand. Once we had everything but one luggage in then they dispensed a courier to bring in the last luggage - without any hospitality as well. I was carrying three luggage’s and the bell boy picked one up and walked off. Check in was equally horrible. At the end of it she didn’t even point us to the direction of our rooms. While this hotel is nice and clean and the person we spoke to on the phone was nice. The front desk lady should not work in hospitality.

Yunohama Hotel is a charming hot spring hotel that offers a delightful experience with its buffet restaurant and scenic views of the strait. The open-air bath facing the sea is a true gem, providing an unforgettable relaxation experience. The hotel's location near various attractions makes it convenient for guests to explore the area. Guests can also enjoy hot-spring baths overlooking the Tsugaru Straits, offering a rejuvenating experience.
Stopped by thanks to the day spa bunting outside and the great Google reviews. Came in on a weekday after 1pm and it wasn't too busy. The onsen is a fantastic price though bath towel and face towel are extra costs. There are several indoor baths and an outdoor bath so although the space is intimate, it didn't feel crowded. The outdoor bath has a great view of the beach, I enjoyed my time in the onsen watching the seagulls dive in the ocean and hang around with their friends.

3.5 out of 5 scale - booked Japanese style room with ocean view, good value with 2 meals on a Saturday night. They have already prepared the futon before check-in, not much room left. Quiet & mainly Japanese staying in this hotel. Dinner buffet has fresh sashimi, salt ramen & grilled lamb in the live kitchen. Less varieties compares to other Ryokan but they prepared the dishes with care and heart. Enjoyed the ocean view in the open-air bath and listen to the sound of waves through the night, relaxing.

This place does day trip baths at a reasonable price with a wonderful view of the beach. It was short but I enjoyed my time here, thank you!

(Translated by Google) I have stayed twice with Seira's collaboration plan. If you are using Hakodate Port or Hakodate Airport, I highly recommend Yunohama Hotel. The rooms are clean and offer views of the Tsugaru Strait. The evening buffet has just the right amount of food, allowing you to eat as much of Hokkaido as you want, and the steamed vegetables served for breakfast, which take advantage of the high salt content of the Yunokawa River, are absolutely delicious. Above all, the open-air bath overlooking the Tsugaru Strait and the quality of its spring water will make you feel like you've come to Hokkaido on the way there, and like you're going home on the way back. It's a very comfortable hotel with just the right amount of everything at a reasonable price.

(Translated by Google) It was a beautiful hotel with a clean impression, which was very nice. The staff were also kind and I was pleased. There were several riddles for small children posted on the first floor of the building, which created a fun atmosphere. My family, who went with me, seemed to think the quality of the hot spring water was average. The dinner and breakfast buffets were enjoyable, but I felt there were a few dishes that were quite tasty.

(Translated by Google) The renovated rooms were nice, but the old ones felt quite old-fashioned, and the refrigerator was on the carpet, making it difficult to take things in and out. Because there is a hot spring, we don't use the unit bath in the room, but it is quite small. The air conditioning is centrally controlled, so you can't adjust the temperature to your liking during the change of seasons. The windows in the room don't have screens, so if you leave them open, insects get in. The hot spring has a great view right in front of the coast. However, the water features buttons, so you can't adjust the temperature or water pressure.

(Translated by Google) First, when I arrived at the parking lot, I was guided by an elderly man. I was guided to a spot at the very edge, with large sheds on the sides and behind me that looked like garbage dumps, and it was clearly not a place to park a car. There was space for one car next to me, so I wondered if it was because I was driving a kei car. If that was the case, I wish he had said something like, "It's a bit cramped." The obi of the yukata robes provided in the room had white stains on it, and there were tea leaves left in the tea strainer, so I couldn't drink my tea. More than anything, the open-air bath had a beautiful view of the ocean, but I could clearly see people walking along the beach. If you can see it from this side, then you can also see it from the other side. It's not a problem that the hotel is old or anything. I don't think I'd want to come back.

City Hall
Nestled in the heart of Hakodate, Hakodate City Hall stands as a striking example of modern architecture. Constructed in 1983, this impressive structure features eight stories above ground and one below, showcasing its grandeur. Located just a short stroll from JR Hakodate Station and surrounded by spacious roads reminiscent of those leading to Japan's National Diet Building, it exudes an air of dignity.

The current city hall is the third generation. It was built in 1983. It is a majestic building with 1 floor underground and 8 floors above ground. Hakodate City has a population about the same size as Minami Ward in Yokohama City. City Hall is smaller than Minami Ward Office. When you enter the building, you'll see the ❬Hakodate Citizen Charter❭ hanging above the ceiling, giving it a retro atmosphere. Hakodate City Hall has always been on my mind. I followed my partner to register the seal. This is my first visit. The family registration department is located at the back of the first floor, and there are two concierges. He explained everything very clearly and thoroughly. Even though it was Monday morning, we and one other person were the only people who came to the office. I can't believe there are so many people... Thanks to this, both seal registration and seal certificate issuance went smoothly. The seal card has a picture of the night view of Hakodate. Thank you very much for your accurate answers to the My Number Card questions. I'm planning on moving in two years. I will take care of you at that time. (Translated by Google) I try to visit as many public facilities as possible in the cities I visit, such as city halls and community centers, so this time I came to Hakodate, I wanted to visit Hakodate City Hall, so I decided to visit. The exterior itself is a magnificent building, but the roads on all sides leading to the city hall are built like the roads in front of the National Diet Building, which adds to the dignity of the city hall. Inside, each department seems to be arranged on all sides of a large floor. Public relations materials and other materials for citizens were located in what appeared to be a rest area at the end. It seems that this day was the retirement day of Mr. Toshiki Kudo, who had served as the mayor until now, and many staff members were gathered in front of the entrance, and although I was an outsider, I was able to meet the staff members and the citizens who had gathered. Together we saw off the mayor, who has been responsible for the administration of this city for nearly ten years. One of the best parts of traveling is witnessing events like these being held for the people living in the area you visit.
