The 23 best art galleries in Charlottetown

I recently visited the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown, and I was genuinely impressed. It’s such a unique place—part cultural hub, part architectural landmark, and full of Canadian history. The building itself really stands out. It was designed in the 1960s by a group of Canadian architects known as ARCOP, and it’s a great example of early Brutalist architecture in Canada. You’ll notice the raw concrete and bold geometric shapes right away, but what’s cool is how well it blends into its surroundings. There’s a big open plaza, and the way the building brings in natural light and connects indoor and outdoor spaces is really thoughtful. The Centre was built to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference, which helped shape the country, so there’s definitely a strong sense of national pride throughout the space. Inside, there’s an art gallery, performance halls, and of course the theatre that hosts Anne of Green Gables – The Musical, which has been running for decades. Whether you’re into architecture, Canadian history, or just want to see a good show or explore some art, this place has something for everyone. I’d definitely recommend a visit—and if you can, take a guided tour to learn more about the design and the story behind it.

Walked into Confederation Centre of the Arts and got the warmest welcome from a lovely lady at the ticket counter—turns out she’s 70 but looks 50! Her positive vibe (and constant hellos to everyone) must be her secret fountain of youth. She even explained each section after I bought my ticket—super helpful! 😄 The Indigenous people’s art exhibition was a highlight. It was captivating! Wished it was bigger—I could’ve lingered longer to soak in more. A gem with room to grow!

Cane here to watch Anne of Green Gables: The Musical. Fantastic show, engaging production. I'm not sure the Brutalist style fits in with Charlottetown but minor detail as the theatre itself has great seating and sound.

This theatre is top notch! Have seen: Anne of Green Gables, Telltale Harbor, Million Dollar Quartet. Their general staff are friendly, their production team creates breathtaking scenes props and effects, and the actors and directors create magic on stage. I am comparing this to the Mirvish production team in Toronto, and they hold up!

We went to go see Anne of Green Gables the musical. It had been a while since i’ve been to a live musical! The performers were amazing and the show was spectacular! However leaving the show was really disorganized and messy as well as during breaks. Everyone was shoving each other and when I was in line to get a drink during break this family butted in front of me, but hey there’s only so much the place can do! Overall, the staff was very friendly and the show is definitely worth to see! 👏🏻👏🏻

This is such a great museum and gallery- it was free admission for us and we got to see many different pieces from the group of seven to contemporary pieces, had so much fun here. If you’re in Charlottetown you must go!

I’ve seen a few shows here. Ticket purchasing was easy. Getting into the theatre was efficient and staff were helpful getting me to my seat. The seats were comfy. The bathrooms were clean. I enjoyed each time I’ve been here.

Still closed down for repairs, scaffolding and metal fencing everywhere. Not much to see here for tourists except for a few monuments until renovations are done..

We visited while the reconstruction is underway. These repairs have been ongoing since 2015. Hopefully, we can visit this historic Canadian landmark when they're done.

Still closed. Apparently it has been closed for 11 years for repairs.

The history and grand architecture is remarkable! Being apart of the team tasked with preserving and renovating this building has been a fortunate opportunity!

It's nice to know that the place has the highest gaps between high tide and low tide.

Closed for repairs and renovations while we were there. A virtual tour booth was available for tourist for free. Local actors in period costume perform historical reenactments in park outside of Province House to mitigate disappointment of tourists who wanted to see historical site.

Amazing how a structure such as the Beaconsfield House could be almost the same age of Canada, erected only 10 years after our country's birth, and still maintain its beauty and presence. This is definitely a testimony to the craftsmanship at the time, and that the house was built using the finest materials. Today, it's old, but back in 1877 it was equipped with the latest conveniences of the day, and stood beautifully with its Victorian architecture.

It's nice to go see if you want to see what a Victoria era house was like, the guide gives a nice story about the house overtime and is honest about what they know and don't. $8 per adult ticket Toddler wasn't too excited about this house

A must visit place in PEI. $20 for a family ticket. Got Daniel as our tour guide. Excellent explanation it was. The house built in 1877.

I did the tour and our guide was knowledgable and kind. I really enjoyed hearing about the history of the house and visiting all the rooms. I would recommend it for anyone interested in history.

Very picturesque. Didn’t go inside (fee required) but grounds are very well maintained and there is seating in the porch. Also, restrooms around back. Worth a visit when you head to park.

First time at this place and it was a thrill to see this live , very impressive thanks to all who are involved in this place.

This casino just gets worse and worse everytime I swing by. Pre-covid it had a such a great culture and lively atmosphere. It seems like management doesn't want to attract anyone to the property anymore. No poker and hardly any table games that really make the room energetic and brings people in. Now its just slots and slot zombies. The resturant is good with good prices which is pretty much the only saving grace at this point.

When we arrived we found a carnival was being setup in the parking lot so there were only about 40 spots available and they were all full. There were no signs directing us to additional parking. We drove around looking for street parking but there is none. We called and were told to park in the race track paddock parking. Once there we had to walk and make our best guess on where to enter the casino as there were no signs again directing you to the casino. Once inside it's a small but nice casino and the staff are friendly.

Very disappointed with the food. The French onion soup was so full of mozzarella that clung to the spoon so thickly that I had to use a knife to cut it off. No tasty provolone cheese as expected. Very little broth or onions and the bread was soggy, not toasted. Post this.

I have been here twice, both were events not relevant to the prime service, casino or races, but I liked the place. I wonder how the races are actually, maybe next season...

Great Museum. Small, but stuffed with very interesting history. A MUST VISIT.

The Haviland Street Charlottetown Prince Edward Island Regiment is a great and fantastic place to join The Army and the staff is friendly and helpful too

Aside from the house and land there's nothing here for the public to see. The same 2 plaques repeat about this house being the epic party place. Everyone ate like royalty and agreements were probably made over oysters and champagne 🍾 Inside is not for the public. It appears to be a Parks Canada office space?? No Explorer books or interpretive center.

It was beautiful, but it was just a yard. There was some nice informative plaques, but aside from that, it was nothing fancy and there is no access to the home. I don’t have pictures because it was literally just grass and bushes.

This is a beautiful property. Well maintained everywhere you look.

Disappointed. Was expecting the advertised “Victorian garden” and to be able to walk around inside the building. No garden and the building is offices and a boardroom. Other than if you want to take a picture of the outside I’d say just skip this

Nice quiet little park. I imagine it will be beautiful when things start coming into bloom. I was impressed there was an electric vehicle charging station in the parking lot.

This is basically a fake parks Canada location. The entrance has a doorbell. Finally someone comes and says the building is just an office. There's lot of grass and trees but no victorian garden.

It's beautiful, full of our Islands own art. And some art from away. You can go in without purchasing anything to look around or you can buy something. Wish the hours for my schedule a bit better

Details Past and Present is open year round and has an extensive selection of original paintings by local and maritime artists as well as glass, jewelry and antiques. The friendly staff is knowledgeable and eager to help.

A nice little shop with a great variety of local artisan work. Very unique and interesting items. However, I can't possibly give this place more than three stars, since the two young ladies working there couldn't possibly muster the strength to say hello, smile, or even acknowledge our existence. Retail is not the place for misanthropes.

Safety wise proper precautions were taken. By facility, watched two shows in a day, it's that fun. The songs of Anne & Gilbert was an mesmerizing performance. It has passion, fun and emotions etc everything.. on the other hand Song Rise was a performance from local songwriters. The songs were just heart touching. Loved every moment of the show.

I love the measures the Guild is taking to still provide quality content safely during Covid times! My family and I loved seeing the Mi'kmaq Heritage actors there last night. Bathrooms are clean, beer service was excellent!

Great venu Saw a play yesterday and found the theater very comfortable and well set up.

Looking past the fact this venue is lacking proper seating and a stage, the production "Amazing Tales of the Atlantic" was disappointing. Lots of signs warning to stay 6ft apart but despite many empty seats, I was seated next to other patrons.

First time to this theatre in 2021. Young staff were friendly and helpful. I noticed they were attentive to guests with mobility issues, helping take the elevator from the street level entry up to the theatre foyer. The "de-gendered" washrooms is an issue causing confusion and, especially more for women, discomfort when sharing the room with men coming in to use urinals. Seating is simple, lighting a bit dim when performances not happening, and sound was good. Overall, a very pleasant night and enjoyable experience.

I am always on the lookout for a cozy sweater. Honestly, this place blew my mind. You can choose the pattern you like, then the size, and then which color yarn you prefer. The sweater I ended up with was knitted in house, by the owner of the shop, and for $295, it feels like an absolute steal. The quality craftsmanship, and the warranty (simply ship back to them and they will fix, for the lifetime of the garment) is unmatched. They also ship globally so I will absolutely be purchasing more in the future.

As a knitter this store is absolutely beautiful!! Everything here is handmade by the staff! (you can see the creation process in the back)! They have a variety of sweaters, balaclavas, mittens, hats, you name it! They also carry lots of yarn such as hand dyed or made locally! The staff is very friendly as well, greeting us kindly and providing us information on materials and store! Definitely a must visit for any crafter!

This unique store is amazing. They make several sweaters hats scarves Etc on site. They have a small yarn selection, as well as all of the Celtic and plaid things you could possibly imagine on the other side. The Staff are super friendly and it's a great stop ant time you are in the area.

A beautiful shop with so many items to offer. There are beautiful knits, great quality wool- Lots to purchase to make your own goods or you can find stunning sweaters, wraps, mitts and socks. They showcase a ton of local artists here- Lots of pottery, wood working, soaps... Its a great shop with tons to offer. I also love that its open year round!

Great store where they make the knitwear onsite. The store owner was super nice and friendly when we visited early morning on a Saturday. There are so many items. The store makes you just want to buy everything. Knitwear, candles, tea and other items await you!

This store focuses on high quality knitted goods. I have purchased three of their sweaters along with socks, mittens and a hat and have loved all of them. They have many styles and colours available on site and they can make custom sizes and modification if you do not need the product right away. They are a pleasure to work with and all sweaters have a lifetime warranty for any holes or lost buttons.

If you are interested in on site knitted items, this is your store! It is fascinating and educational to watch the few employees using the knitting machines, and seeing the shelves lined with the knitted items. Beautiful and high quality items.

Love visiting Moon Snail while on the island for soap and other fun gifts. Love the children’s offerings in particular as they carry French stuffies that are just darling. Great place for gifts and souvenirs.

Absolutely wonderful place and staff! I always enjoyed cooking in here cause you'll never know what you'll find. From crystals to homemade jewelry and flashy little knick knacks. This place has it all, it's a bit of a shop of curiosities you wouldn't really find anywhere else.

Absolute favorite store on the island! From meditation pillows to soap made in store, what more could you want 😍 They have crystals, Affirmation decks, oracle decks, tarot decks and so much more! Not only that, we took our one year old in here with us, and the girl working at the counter was absolutely amazing with her. Usually most people would be nervous having a child that small in a store like this, but they made us feel like it was 10000% okay that she was walking around with her daddy pointing to things while I shopped! Our daughter even wanted to go behind the counter with the girl working! It was an extremely amazing experience. Also, I didn't have a mask when I first went in, and they were so polite about it when we asked if they had extras! They even seemed excited that we asked! Such a great store and even more amazing people that work there 💕 Keep up the awesome work guys!

Beautiful shop!. Wonderfully smelling homemade soaps and deodorants and other body products as well as a variety of homemade items. The mugs are cute and I wanted them all.

Just purchased a bat from them. I couldn't get my free bat shipping to work, called them and they fixed my issue within 5 mins. 2 hours later my bat has been shipped and will be receiving it within 3 days?!?! More than happy with the service received would recommend!

This is by far one the best little shops to buy local art and pottery in Charlottetown. They have one of the most diverse selections of different potters and art pieces. A must stop for anyone looking for local gifts and souvenirs.

Good selection of multiple local craft styles from all backgrounds (indigenous, colonial, contemporary PEI, European Canadian, African Canadian). Prices are fair and reasonable for craftmanship and location, local tourist market, present economy. Unsure of how money is distributed to local artists or commission, etc. But was my favorite local craft/ art store visited. Genuine PEI.

This is a shop with lots of tourist toys and gifts to buy focused on a PEI theme. Some of it was a bit tacky, but some of it was genuinely cool stuff! Lots of cool art and even some local creations. Some Christmas ornaments, but overall the theme was PEI in summer. There were many cool things in this shop. Worth a stop if you're into shopping! Easy to access, and reasonably large inside. Easy to walk around and look at everything.

Just looking at my Christmas ornaments handmade by Nellie, and remembering what a great conversation we had with her this summer. Wish all gift shops had a soul, and all souvenirs had a story as fun as the one we got at Nellie’s. Nellie—thank you! Your ornaments are going to give us joy for years to come!

I am curious why an art shoppe that ostensibly promotes east coast art, images and culture in such a public and high profile location also sells greeting cards with the words F#$K and B@LL$ emblazoned in bold letters? A rather conflicting marketing strategy; Primm and Profane???
