History Museums
Museum Flehite is a captivating local history museum located in the heart of Amersfoort, Netherlands. Housed in three medieval buildings, it offers a unique glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region. The museum features themed art and artifacts, along with engaging temporary exhibitions that cover various aspects of history and art. One notable permanent exhibition showcases eye-witness accounts from WWII, providing poignant insights into the past.
Very nice historical museum, the route was clear at most points and gets you past everything there. Especially nice was the miniature town depicting the town as it was a while ago, minus the random car and moped that were rather out of place. It's fun to see the different angles within the paintings throughout the museum that with the help of the miniature allows you to figure out where the painter was viewing the town from. Which makes it possible for you to go there yourself and see the difference; it's a great way for engagement even outside of the museum. Overall a very fun, historical experience that I can recommend.

Unexpected great museum for museumkaart holders! Staff were helpful, and gave me a guide with descriptions of the rooms in english, as most text is written only in dutch. I liked it more than the mondriaanhuis, so I highly recommend it! It takes 45-60 min to visit.
Tyler W — Google review
It's ok but not that exciting or interesting. It's just nice for a visit if nothing better has come up and you took the boat tour that gives you 50% or have a Museumkaart.

Pretty nice museum. Had some great history about Amersfoort. Enjoyed some of the exhibitions and paintings very much, especially the exhibition about water.

I visited the museum in May, 2025, when a very substantial show of paintings by Wessel Huisman was presented across the entire museum. The building is gorgeous and well located. Huisman's work consists of a re-reading of Classical perspective laws through a modern sensitivity. I found the work beautiful, thought-provoking, and made with tremendous skill.
Pedro A — Google review
Although me and my gf only had about 45 minutes to explore the museum, we still found a lot of interesting things and it was a great experience, would like to come back later with more time to explore the museum!

All about Mathias Withoos, something new from me. The only problem was that there were no explanations in English only in Dutch. Thanks God,a visitor who was kind explained me about the family Withoos and their way of seeing the nature then in 17 th centery and later by Hans ,1962. Nature as an unit, life is ours only temporary, all you have today tomorrow could be dust,,,themes of painting. The video from the end it's interesting also,to see how technology today, can change the reality in art.

Koppelpoort, a medieval landmark crafted in the 14th and 15th centuries, is a picturesque gate that traverses both land and water. This well-preserved fortress emanates an enchanting fairytale vibe. It embodies the charm of Amersfoort, a city steeped in history. The gate's design is truly remarkable, and walking by its canals is an unforgettable experience.
The Koppelpoor medieval gate it's a well-preserved structure from the city's old defense wall. You can admire its impressive brickwork, towers, and the scenic surroundings along the canal 🏰✨
Chiara C — Google review
Well preserved piece of medieval architecture serving as both a land and water port. There's a bridge right opposite to it that provides a great view of the gate. Kind of odd how they built a railway line right next to it. The Amersfoort Centraal Station itself is a bit of a walk away.
Rasikanand H — Google review
A lovely landmark. Benches around so if you get tired from walking, you could always sit down and admire the view or see people in their bicycles around.
Quincy Q — Google review
Must-see historical gem! The Koppelpoort is absolutely worth visiting - it’s the only combined land-water gate in the Netherlands and dates back to around 1425. Time your visit for summer and you might catch the cannon demonstrations by De Stadskanonniers - quite a spectacle! Fun fact: if you were caught drunk and fighting in medieval times, your punishment was operating the water gate mechanism, literally running like a rat in a wheel. This is where the Dutch term “raddraaier” (troublemaker) comes from! Beautiful medieval architecture, perfect for photos, and great for history buffs. Definitely add this to your Amersfoort itinerary!
Bram O — Google review
There is a lovely walk between the 2 gates.

I passed by and sat in the park nearby. As far as I know, there are NO tours here. But it's beautiful, so who cares? Take a bunch of pictures from the bridge. Come back at different times of the day and take the same pictures. Then decide which one you love best. Mine is late twilight.
Jenn ( — Google review
Very pretty. Too bad the Three Rings craft brewery had taken an unscheduled holiday when I visited. It would have been great to sit by the water and sip a beer.
Jonathan M — Google review
The main gate of the medieval city of Amersfoort is an impressive sight. Sadly, the access to the fortification's interior is restricted. I'm giving only three stars because the overall experience was marred by the unpleasant smell emanating from the dirty water.

Art museum
Musiom, located in Amersfoort, is a small museum that offers a diverse and interesting collection of paintings and bronze statues. The museum, originally a church and then a family-owned home, now showcases moving art collections with the aim of highlighting lesser-known artists. Visitors can expect to see various artworks from different artists that provide new perspectives on themes like stillness. The friendly volunteers are open to answering questions and even offer free walkthroughs of the art pieces and the exhibit itself.
Small museum but it has some very interesting paintings and artworks. Artists from which I had never heard of which only made it better. It’s a small place so you’ll be able to see everything within an hour but it’s worth the visit if you are in Amersfoort.

The volunteers gave us a free walkthrough of the art pieces and the exhibit itself. It's amazing to see the curation itself. History : originally a church, a family owned home, now a museum. They try to highlight lesser known artists with moving art collections. So this might change even you visit next.

Now a beautiful multifunctional place, where many small businesses are located with the necessary catering in the buildings of this former factory. Definitely worth a visit. For example, there is an excellent bicycle repair shop and also a very small printing company with special cards and screen prints. The buildings are industrial heritage and very beautiful. It is very good that the municipality of Amersfoort has left this industrial site standing and has given it a beautiful new destination.

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
DierenPark Amersfoort is a delightful destination for animal lovers and families alike, nestled in the picturesque city of Amersfoort, Netherlands. This well-established zoo boasts an impressive collection of over 150 species, including majestic tigers, playful monkeys, and graceful giraffes. Visitors can wander through seven themed zones that showcase diverse habitats—from the lush African savannah to the enchanting Dinopark featuring life-sized replicas of prehistoric creatures like Brachiosaurus.
Fantastic Zoo with loads of slides and climbing frames for the kids to see the animals along with a big park area and and small train you can ride on. We went mid week in sunny weather and it was spot on. We saw loads of the animals up close which really surprised me, it took the whole day to really see and participate in everything. The only negative which is such a shame is the quality of the food there. They could really benefit from something like La Place coming in and offering healthy options as everything is just deep fried. We took a packed lunch because of this.
Rachel L — Google review
(August 2025) One of the best zoos that I have visited. All the animals looked content and happy, the housing settlements looked fun, with plenty of food and no pacing, or balding spots on the animals. Lots of fun little things for the kids, like slides, and tunnels, plus little activities throughout. The park was clean and had a lovely vibe 💜 I highly recommend this place (Cost me 30 euros to get in) and I spent 5 hours here - there were also suncream dispensers! some little rides and a boating activity as well to do, including walking over a rope bridge to see the bears which was cool. I had a very pleasant visit 💜
Victoria F — Google review
Beautiful park, especially the Japanese garden, Roman colosseum themed lions cage and Indian Palace themed tigers cage. We got lost all the time though, the sneak through adventure paths (some of these the only way to see all the animals) made us easily loose all sense of direction. The free map was invaluable, therefore. Delicious sandwiches and snacks in the large restaurant halfway in the park, and when something ran out they immediately made new fresh ones. A peek in the animals kitchen was very interesting too! We were exhausted from all the extra walks to find the route again but overall had a lovely day.
Wendelart Z — Google review
We had a great time in the park. Specially I have never seen myself lion, giraffe in real. And that was something special to me and of course my kids. Very spacious place. All those rats and monkeys were so funny. Just Amazing Time.
Raju T — Google review
This is a very nice zoo. It is not too big and feels sort of cozy, but there is really lots to see and do. We loved the new chimpanzee quarters! The kids enjoyed the playgrounds and the Dino Forrest!
Richard M — Google review
We go to DierenPark Amersfoort regularly (we live in Amsterdam but it's worth the drive) and it never disappoints. The park is beautifully laid out, with lots of green areas and enclosures that make you feel really close to the animals. What makes it extra special for us is how kid-friendly it is — there are slides, tunnels, and special walkways throughout the park that turn the visit into a real adventure for children. On top of that, there are two really big playgrounds where the kids can run, climb, and play for ages, as well as a fun carousel and even a little train that drives through the zoo. It means there’s always something exciting to do in between visiting the animals, and it keeps the whole day varied and fun. The variety of animals is fantastic and there is also a really big dinosaur section with 1:1 sized dinosaurs, which is something not every zoo offers. It’s a place my kids are always excited to come back to. Highly recommended for families or anyone looking for a fun and unique day out.
Joshua D — Google review
Underneath a canopy you can admire a large selection of the animal kingdom. The zoo offers a great mix of experiences for families, dog owners, animal lovers and even dino enthusiasts. My family loves it every time. Many animal pens have add on activities, like a climbing track at the bear pen. The experience of being surrounded by howling wolves is second to none. The playgrounds could use some love, but they are safe and fun. The food could be more nutritious. The theme integration is fun too, like a gladiator at the lions.
Vincent H — Google review
A very beautiful zoo in the center of The Netherlands. Enough parkingspace, on ground level as in the parking garage. It's situated on the outer ring of Amersfoort. The entree fee is medium priced, yet there are options to get a discount from stores or simply by searching in Google. The park itself is very beautiful, lots of space and really close to the animals. You can even interact with small mammels like Meercats who are walking beside the visitors. Food and drinks are also medium priced but the portions are good. You'll find the spots throughout the whole park. Smoking prohibited except a few spots. A very nice park to have a day out with your kids too. They were awarded different prices, also because childfriendly is their power and you will not be dissapointed! The small railway and waterboats are payed with Zoo-coins, you'll find the machines near the attractions (waterboat €5,-, total). Have fun!

Train station
Amersfoort Central Train Station is a modern and easily accessible railway hub in the Netherlands, with direct connections to major cities like Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Rotterdam. While it may seem less busy than before due to changes in rail traffic, the station offers good facilities including ample cycle parking and links to buses. However, there are limited seating and dining options on weekends. The platform setup is easy to understand, but some travelers find it unclear where to board the trains.
A well equipped station and passage of almost all local and international trains.
Samia J — Google review
Visited Amersfoort Central Station today, a striking modern hub with distinctive glass architecture and bulging pillars. It is excellently connected with frequent trains to major cities and undergoing a major makeover including a large underground bike parking and greener public spaces. The vibrant nearby city center complements the station’s smooth and convenient travel experience. Loved the blend of style and functionality.

Ammar A — Google review
A nice station modern and seems less busy than when I first came to Amersfoort in early 2000s. I am told a new railway line has taken some rail traffic that used to come via Amersfoort. There are limited places inside to sit eat and drink especially on a weekend. The big bug Bear for me is the lack of a destination board where you come onto the concourse before the gates. But nice all the same plenty of cycle parking and links to busses.

Very nice place for kids to play. It stands out with a lasergame area! Also easy ordering systems so no lines at the register!

I do not recommend having a party there AT ALL for your children. My husband arrived and they asked him what time they could give the snacks to the children, he replied 16:15. After 2 minutes I arrived and my husband told me that he had asked for the snacks for 16:15 but maybe it was better before. I agreed with him and went to make the change. It hadn't even been 5 minutes since he asked (I'm not exaggerating LESS than 5 minutes). And the staff told me that there were no changes. I was very surprised and I told them: but my husband just left... it hasn't even been 5'. But at all times they told me no, even a brunette guy (who apparently wanted to fight) started to raise his voice... the only thing I did was leave. I should have read the reviews in regards the staff . This is the only thing that is terrible in this place. For the rest, no complaints
Adita F — Google review
A really big play arena but compared to the other Monkey Town in Amersfoort this is way worse. In general the place is dirty everywhere, no one is looking after to keep things clean. When we visited, the heating was broken, no discount or no free cup of tea was offered. It was quite cold for parents to sit there. In the buffet they only put sweet things on display, everything but something healthy. It is strange to see such a network being so poorly managed.
Zoltan B — Google review
The place is suitable for children aged from 4 to 11 years. There is fast food inside the place. Free parking, The best offer is to buy 10 tickets for 65 euros instead of buying one entry ticket for 10 euros, free entry for parents .

We usually go to the Nieuwland one but tried this one for a change. This location is a lot smaller than expected unfortunately. The ordering of food is a lot better at this location and a lot more choices. Our daughter of 2 enjoyed the trampoline a lot but the upstairs trampolines were a bit difficult for her to reach. The slides were nice but the blue on is a hassle to climb up with a 2 yo.

Kids love this place because they get to play a lot and have fun with other kids too. The food options are good. Well maintained toilets. A safe play zone for kids 0-4 years. And the parents get to enter for free, use the free WiFi too. I could take my kids even on a work-from-home day. But sometimes I have seen young kids (especially boys) leave all the taps turned on, in the toilet, till water overflows out on the floor and make it wet and dangerous. And I also saw kids of 10 come and play carelessly in 0-4 zone. I think this is something the parents should take care with their kids.

Stayed here two times now. Once in summer and once in winter. Both times were amazing. Thank you for the great times.

I stayed here 6 years ago, still it’s so refreshing when I remember the stay I had here. Well maintained cottages, friendly and easily approachable😍

House was spacious for 5 people and had all necessary amenities. Easy drive to Soest and Amersfoort and short walk to forest area.

Be carefull the principal rooms are in the basement. They are very dark and with poor ventilation. I think anyone can fell depress living there.

We have travelled to The Netherlands 5 times and stayed at Eekhoornnest every time. It is an absolutely fabulous place to stay, tucked away amongst the trees it’s a peaceful and quiet place to relax. Piers and Ineke and their family are amazing hosts and we always feel like family when we’re there. The bungalows have everything you need for a comfortable stay and the location lends itself for driving in any direction to go on adventures. For young families there’s lots to do at the Park with a great playground, pathways for adventures and a soccer pitch! We look forward to going there again next year.

A real gem! We stayed in a beautiful house with wellness, close to the sand dunes. Our friends stayed in a house overlooking the meadows. The park is lovely and the staff very friendly. We had an amazing time and we will definitely come back to this fairytale of a place :)

The accommodation we stayed in - the B7 was good with a nice downstairs living area. Upstairs was OK but perhaps a little tired (I think is in the process of being updated). The staff are great and the entertainment for kids was excellent. It's a great location in a beautiful woodland setting and lots to see and do in the surrounding area.

Embark on a delightful journey aboard the Inspiration Boat, especially enjoyable in good weather as you relax on the deck and take in the stunning surroundings. Richard, the friendly host, ensures that guests are well taken care of with food and drinks. With ample space both on deck and inside, there's room for everyone to unwind. Whether it's celebrating a wedding anniversary or a birthday with friends and family, the accommodating team of Richard, Rutger, and Laurens ensure a memorable experience for all ages.
We had our marriage party at De Inspiratieboot. It is a wonderful boat to host party. We and the guests enjoyed so much. The view was beautiful while sailing, the room (inside and the deck) is specious for hosting around 90-100 people. There are sufficient facilities, professional and relaxing crew members. Laurens is flexible and helpful. We highly recommend this place if you look for a venue for a unique party. Frank&Jing

I just don’t know where to start. Such a fabulous location for our wedding. The staff made sure the service was second to none from start to end. Relaxed and stress free party location during the preparation phase, warm and welcoming and extremely well organized on the day itself. Thank you for making our first hours as husband and wife so perfect and memorable. With warm regards, The Diawaras.

(Translated by Google) On June 3, I celebrated my 70th birthday with 70 people on Laurens and Richard's inspiration boat. What a day and what a party. You will be received warmly and festively by a team that works together. Femke, who was so nice with the helping children. Very well catered for with cakes, snacks and drinks, which were really delicious. And the atmosphere on the boat was great, partly thanks to you. Dear people... Book that boat!! Lieve mensen… Boeken die boot!!

(Translated by Google) Our company had a fantastic experience on the inspiration boat! From the preparation to the execution, everything was perfectly arranged. The hospitality felt warm and personal, as if we were having a party in our own living room, but with a beautiful tour of the Eem River as the backdrop. The freedom we were given to plan the event gave us the freedom to truly make it our own. The catering was excellent and perfectly matched the relaxed and festive atmosphere. In short: a unique combination of professionalism and a homely atmosphere, where everyone felt welcome. Highly recommended for companies that want to experience something special together!
