Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Naruto Whirlpools, located near the city of Tokushima in Shikoku, are a natural wonder that can be observed from boats or nearby viewpoints. These large tidal whirlpools occur below the Onaruto Bridge and are most prominent in the morning and afternoon when there is a significant volume of water moving through the strait connecting the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean. They can reach up to 20 meters across during spring and summer.
What a beautiful place! Must check the tides and boat schedules to know the best times to experience the whirlpools. Highly recommend a boat trip and then a trip up to the visitors center and you can walk under the bridge on an enclosed catwalk. There are lots of informational pictures and narratives in Japanese and English. You can also view the whirlpools from the glass windows in the floor of the bridge. Then go up to the viewpoint on the cliff where the feudal lords used to enjoy the whirlpools during Edo period. For the boat trip we didn’t have reservations in advance and were able to purchase tickets about 30 minutes before departure from the ticket office on the larger boat. The smaller boat with glass bottom requires advance ticket reservations. Definitely going back with advance reservations for a glass bottom boat ride.

Visited the Naruto Whirlpools and enjoyed the views from the hilltop observation area. The whirlpools were fascinating to watch as the tides created those powerful swirling currents below. It’s a great spot for photos and to appreciate nature’s force from a safe distance. The viewing area is well maintained with clear signage and facilities. Even without taking a boat tour, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby.
Eric — Google review
The Naruto Whirlpools only appear during high or low tide. Be sure to check the tide times to catch the whirlpools at their best. We paid the ticket price to walk under the bridge to catch the whirlpools from above. Sadly we missed the peak of the ebb tide. We did see the whirlpools from the bridge surface a few days before and found them to be a spectacular sight. Take the time to walk the observation areas on and off the Onaruto Bridge to get a true sense of just how huge the tidal surge can be. At the southern observatory there are cafes and snack stands to enjoy as well.
Rob L — Google review
One of the amazing experiences I’ve ever had. They offer like a Uzushio forecast that expects how possible it is to see whirlpool each hour. When I visited it showed the level would be not so high, but it was pretty sunny so I took the next boat. There are 2 types of boats you could take, one with an underwater view and the other that is bigger and not necessary to book in advance. I took the one with an underwater view and was amazing!! The whirlpool was not big just as the forecast said but I was so excited to see small whirlpools. The staff told me that the diameter of it would be about 20 meters if it’s the perfect time. Just seeing a big bridge was nice. I highly recommend this activity.
Toraneko — Google review
Was looking forward to seeing this amazing natural phenomenon. On hols from Oz. Travelled a couple of hours to get there. Paid a fee to access the observation deck from the bridge. My advice is do your homework before you go, its crucial otherwise in my opinion it's a waste of time going. Read that the whirlpools are best viewed at high and low tides and at certain times of the year. We didn't tick any of those boxes and it was very apparent. Was still a pleasant outing looking at the Naruto Strait.
Julia M — Google review
A must see. located in the Naruto Strait near Awaji Island in Japan, which have speeds of 26 km/h (16 mph). A whirlpool is a body of rotating water produced by opposing currents or a current running into an obstacle.
Lee — Google review
Very exciting whirlpool view. The museum where I have learnt a lot. Good place to go. Buy one ticket so you will visit the museum and see the whirlpool closely.

Lookouts
Awaji Hanasajiki is a breathtaking park located on Awaji Island, celebrated for its stunning seasonal floral displays and panoramic views. Spanning 15 hectares and perched at an elevation of about 298 meters, this vibrant garden showcases a kaleidoscope of flowers throughout the year. Visitors can revel in the beauty of tulips and daffodils in spring, sunflowers and cosmos during summer, followed by autumn's rich salvia hues.
The scenery is still beautiful even though there weren't a lot of blooming flowers when we visited. I also love how the paddy/ flower art was designed by children! It's free admission but you can patronise the souvenir shop and purchase local specialties. P.s. the public toilets here were spotless.
YJ K — Google review
The view here is beautiful, with flower fields spread across a hill overlooking the sea and the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge in the distance. It is not a full sea of blooms and not large in scale, but it has its own charm. I visited in late July and literally melted walking under the scorching sun, even with an umbrella. Parking costs 200 yen, and admission is free. There is also a restaurant and a souvenir shop selling Awaji produce and local specialties.
Leh P — Google review
After a quick stop at the Aikashi-Kaikyo Bridge, we decided to visit this flower park. The park was well-maintained and wonderfully peaceful. The flowers were beautiful. We spent an hour in the park. Parking was cheap (200 yen) and the restrooms were very clean. The park itself wasn't expensive, but the bridge toll made it a short and expensive visit (2,410 yen times 2).
Yuna L — Google review
I love the view of this place. Beautiful scenery and they have a restaurant and museum located in this place! The park is huge and the view is spectacular! I have seen lots of tourists coming by bus. And you need a car to get here but the entrance is free!

Lovely place to visit. Beautifully kept flower gardens, easy to park and relaxing place to walk around and just enjoy the view and the wonderful atmsphere. The cafe has some nice choices of food and the omiyage shop can tempt you with some of my favourite onion soup packs and other nice offerings.
David — Google review
Such a beautiful spot. You only need to pay for parking as the gardens are free. The views are amazing and the flowers seasonal. We always go during the himawari (sunflowers) blossoming.

Nijigen no Mori, located on Awaji Island, offers an immersive anime theme park experience that combines popular series like Naruto and Boruto with the grandeur of the Godzilla franchise. The Naruto and Boruto area provides interactive ninja-themed activities for fans to test their skills in a world reminiscent of the anime. A major highlight is the Godzilla Interception Operation Awaji, catering to enthusiasts of the iconic monster.
Staff were super friendly and helpful. Lots of gift shops with all sorts of souvenirs. Godzilla, Zipline, and museum were particularly fun and had small lines.

Holy Hannah was this place an expensive tourist trap!!! Okay, the premise is cool with the themes (Dragon Quest, Godzilla, Crayon Shinchan, Monster Hunter, Demon Slayer, and Naruto), but everything was super expensive (even compared to the US). Our food alone in the Dragon Quest-themed pub was around $100 (Disney prices)! In the end, with the pricing of each park, we skipped the attractions fully and decided to drive back to Kobe and enjoy our time there. At least parking was free!
Sam W — Google review
A great place to visit if you are interested in anime such as Naruto Shiipuden, Demon Slayer, Sin-chan and so on. Waiting for you to explore. Sorry no inside park photo sharing. You got to self explore as it will a great place after all.

Fantastic! Great full day outing from Osaka. Multiple places available to visit. Completed the Naruto adventure during the day and finished up with a Deamon slayer night walk. Would recommend but be sure to book well in advance we used Klook. + Be sure not to miss out on the delicious Ramen while at Naruto YUM!!!🤤🍜
Amelianicola — Google review
Went here for the first time only did the dragon quest which was very fun but we could not complete since the last bit was a 90min wait time. It’s said to last 2 hours but including the 90min wait it’s about 3:30 which no one told anyone. The attractions looked very fun but everything is very over priced. Would be a good place for a special occasion but not somewhere you can go regularly. The cafe is so overpriced, the food looks so much smaller than what it shows on the menu and the cafe also was overpriced considering the amount of food you get. Nice area and is a fun day out.
Jude — Google review
Anime, game, and kaijyu fan will not regret visiting this place. However, it is very costly since each attractions are aeparate fee from 4,500 to 13,000 yen per person. Although expensive, you will be enteryained for at least 2 hours for each attraction, and there are some sense of accomplishment too. Its a nice place to visit to say 'been there, done that'.
Sachiko H — Google review
I love monster hunter, found Monster hunter: the field by chance and absolutely loved the experience. A short but very fun romp around the park followed by an arcadey fight against a monster. The food was also quite nice as well. I got the nergigante burger Would’ve done the godzilla ride if we had time

Was a fun experience, Naruto area was a little small but fun. If you’re tall watch out for the tents and door frames, I got my head quite a few times

The Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge is a remarkable suspension bridge that connects Kobe City and Awaji Island, spanning the scenic Akashi Strait. It holds the distinction of being one of the world's longest suspension bridges, offering tours to its exhibition center and top. Opened in 1998, it was once the longest suspension bridge globally at 3,911m.
I have visited Akashi Kaikyo Bridge on multiple occasions. I vividly recall the thrill I experienced during my initial crossing through the glass platform situated underneath the bridge. From this vantage point, we were able to observe the sea below, with boats passing directly underneath. Additionally, we witnessed engineers conducting their inspection shifts, driving through the lower stage of the bridge. The experience was truly remarkable.
Hanhey H — Google review
The Akashi Kaikyō Bridge also called the Pearl Bridge, is one of Japan’s greatest engineering marvels. It Connects Kobe (Honshu) with Awaji Island, spanning the Akashi Strait in Hyōgo Prefecture. the Total length 3,911 meters (3.9 km). The main span is 1,991 meters, making it the longest suspension bridge span in the world (a record it still holds). Height: Bridge towers rise 283 meters above sea level. Opened: April 5, 1998. Before the bridge, ferries carried cars across the Akashi Strait — a dangerous waterway with strong currents and storms. In 1955, two ferries sank in a typhoon, killing 168 children and adults. This tragedy pushed Japan to build a safer permanent crossing. Construction took 10 years (1988–1998) and used advanced earthquake- and typhoon-resistant technology. The 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake struck during construction, shifting the towers apart by 1 meter — engineers adjusted, and the bridge was completed successfully.

I have visted Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, i am so happy that i visited there, i was very impressed that i am not scare of the water becuase it is 43 thousand feet above the sea level. the bridge was super tall and it was the best view forever of the entire life

Very impressive. Nice to go up and see the landscape. During the evening it lights up multiple colors like a rainbow. I am so happy that I visited there.
Weeraratna C — Google review
A very interesting tour of this impressive bridge. The tours are run by former engineers and crew of the design and build of the bridge so they are very knowledgeable. Your trip will start with an orientation and safety briefing. All items you will bring with must be secured by lanyards to you. They will provide you with everything that you will need before heading out on the tour. Once your orientation is completed, you will head down to the bridge construction exhibition on the main floor. Following your tour of the exhibitions you will make your way out to the bridge promenade. From the promenade you will enter into the maintenance area beneath the traffic surface. The walk from the promenade to the support tower is approximately 1.4kms. Once you arrive at the support tower, you will head up by way of a maintenance elevator built into the core of the tower (from floor 17 to floor 98). Making your way through the support tower core and onto the observation deck on top of the tower will require moderate mobility. They do confirm that you will be able to navigate this portion of the tour before allowing you to proceed during the safety briefing. The views from the observation area on top of the tower is amazing to say the least. The view is well worth all the work to get up there and well worth the cost of the ticket.

Such a fabulous place to visit on Awaji Island! Incredibly picturesque, with pond, flowering plants, multiple structures, tea ceremony. Tickets for tea ceremony. Hello Kitty Smile is a large entertainment complex that is entirely Hello Kitty-themed. It features restaurants serving fresh island-caught food and offers Hello Kitty afternoon tea with views of the Seto Inland Sea. Visitors can enjoy a projection mapping hologram theater showcasing 15 minutes of Hello Kitty cuteness and have the opportunity to meet the special princess Hello Kitty, exclusive to this park. The facility includes a visually stunning restaurant, an adorable souvenir shop, and opportunities for photos with Hello Kitty.
Our family had an amazing time at Hello Kitty Smile, Awaji Island! My wife, our two kids, and I truly enjoyed the variety of activities available—everything was fun, interactive, and perfectly suited for children. Parents can also participate and help their kids complete tasks, making it a great bonding experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, always ensuring that visitors had the best experience. The place itself is beautifully designed, making it a dream destination for Hello Kitty fans! The only thing that could be improved is the food options to better cater to Muslim visitors. It would be great to see more halal-friendly choices in the future. Overall, it was a fantastic visit, and we highly recommend it to families looking for a fun and memorable experience!

We did the Hello Kitty Smile and Apple House experiences because the wife is a huge Sanrio fan. Buying tickets in advance, we thought we would breeze though - proved not to be the case. Plenty of parking, but you may have to walk (8 min for us). There were no separate cues for those who prepaid versus those still requiring payment which was honestly annoying and opposite of every other site/activity we took part in during our stay in Kansai. Inside was pretty awesome, but again the queuing was pretty bad and was quite stuffy. The unfortunate part was due to this, we were unable to take pictures with the hime Hello Kitty. Moving on to the Apple House, it seemed more coordinated and quick overall. Honestly, it's the epitome of a tourist trap and something to do if you want to burn time.

So cute! I wish I had more time to explore, but the bit that I did see was so cute! Meeting hello kitty was also fun! She was so kind and expressive! Our service was also exemplary! We ate at the cafe there and our waiter was so kind and helpful. They even helped us and made sure we got at the bus safely. I would definitely come back again.

One of the places for girls and women alike... If you are a huge hello kitty fan. Do visit, there are things to see and photos to be taken. One of the best thing here is the photo taking session with the hello kitty which wasn't that long queue. About 5 minutes or so. The only bad part is the shuttle busses and public bus are limited here. There is also a restaurant at the side of the museum. I find the food 7/10 for my taste.. not the best but it's fine
Soh Y — Google review
The ticket pricing is high, considering what you are paying for. The only offerings inside are rhinestones displays, kitty wall art, mirrors, and digital art. Hello Kitty does make an appearance, which is a plus! As an adult and a fan, I was underwhelmed. However, my 5 year old daughter was thrilled by the experience. You can get a parent and child ticket for 3,000. I personally feel that it’s a money trap! It’s a place to buy overly priced food and ridiculously priced Hello Kitty merchandise.

Nestled atop Mt. Mikuma, the Sumoto Castle Ruins offer a fascinating glimpse into Japan's storied past. This partially restored stone castle complex dates back to the 16th century and served as a strategic base during the tumultuous Sengoku period through to the Edo period. The impressive castle walls showcase traditional Sengoku architecture and are remarkably well-preserved, earning it recognition as a national historic site.
Great location for a day drive from Kobe. Good views of the sea and plenty of tasty places to eat nearby.

A good place for sunset with the castle as background. We fortunate went there before sunset and accidentally discovered the beautiful sunset moment by the castle. Albeit the castle was rather small yet the ruins would tell it was used to be a large castle oversee the area. The old stone foundations around did tell. Trees were lovely and the entire area were worth visit and, with the lovely sunset, become a perfect moment for memory.

A memorable place to visit. Little bit of walking to get to the highest point but you can see a beautiful view of the island. The castle itself is not big and you are not allowed to get in. You can observe from the outside and under the castle. It is well maintained. Good place to go if you want some quiet time and just enjoy the fresh air. A very peaceful place.

Lovely place! We only spent around 2 hours but you should definitely dedicate a whole day and see everything! Even though it was a weekend, it was not crowded at all! We were able to ride the horse with no waiting time! Although it's a very short lap. It's very family and child friendly.

A lovely place for a whole day visit with kids 💕 It's vast and mostly open - too hot for summer and ideal from Autumn to Spring. Under roof: workshops, Koala, rabbits and guinea pigs, green house with 🦎🐢🌴, shuttle train, food. Good for walking, running, playing outside 🏃‍♀️. Perfect place for special occasions. A bit of everything everywhere: animals 🐎 🐑 🐹 🐇 🐨 🦘 🐢 🦎 and flowers here and there, beautiful views and scenery, workshops: making bread, candles, woolen toys; harvesting 🍓🍅🍆🥔, Swan boats 🦢 (roof protects from sun/ rain), go-karts 🚘 for 2 people (140cm and above can drive themselves, below 140 are passengers only), other amusement activities for little ones and adults; food, drink vending machins, toilets everywhere. Connecting cute shuttle train. The prices are reasonable as it goes to taking care of animals and a vast territory, you can just pick up and pay for what you are interested the most 👍.

Very wide area, and relaxing atmosphere. I had fun meeting with many cute friends, even the funny ones that lay in the bathtub for hours (Kappibara) it's a place to go and enjoy once in a while away from the big cities.

If you're Australian, you can visit some expat koalas & kangaroos, but I recommend visiting Awaji's Farm Park in the springtime when the abundance of various fields of flowers is in bloom.

The place is conveniently located near tourist spots. The toilets are spacious and clean. The food area is nice. It gives you the view of the sea and Kobe skyline. It's also refreshing because of the tables and chairs in the garden.

A decent pit stop with two restaurants, a mini food court with 4 or 5 stalls, and a popular cafe that sells soft serve ice cream, sandwiches, coffee and tea. Most come here to buy the local souvenirs and produce such as instant onion soup, and everything to do with onions.

Great photo spot of Awaji Kaikyo bridge. If you are near by, it is atrongly suggested to visit there at least once. Have access fromJR Maiko station to catch highway bus that takes uou to this Service Area. Having Starbucks coffee while feeling ocean breeze was a treat.

Rest areas on toll roads, with a small play area and ferris wheel. There we can enjoy the sea with a view of the awaji island bridge, there are binoculars that can be used with ¥100. There are coffee shops, restaurants and gift shops.

The park also features a playground called Yumekko Land, making it an ideal destination for families with children.
It was great and cool . A lot to walk and a few sakura was in bloom too. Were lot of tulips. There was this event and we got a rose plant each one of us.

Huge park space with endless walkways. If you like nature you can enjoy a long time here with the whole family. Many people having picnic or running about here on the weekend. As it’s a natural environment there’s many insects!! In autumn I saw so many spiders! Freaky for me but maybe interesting for some people. It’s good to immerse yourself in fgs vast nature. As compared to Japanese city areas, this place is a wide space and soothing atmosphere.

Large park maybe 1.5 kilometers wide with a huge number of flower displays, paths, bridges, play areas. There are lots of stairs for those who are able but the park is also fully accessible for wheelchairs. Also very child friendly and dog friendly.

Akashi Kaikyo National Government Park is a beautiful park set on the mountain on Awaji island in Japan. It is built of concrete and has tiered boxes of planters in cubes terraced up the mountain side with different varieties of flowers and plants in each cube. There are also tiered, water fountains and reflection pools clad in thousands of shells at the bottom. There are many stairs, but you can take several of the elevators up to the top. It wasn’t very busy when our bus tour came there in the morning. Tropical plants and pampas grass was swaying in the breeze from the nearby ocean. The elevators do not go to the very top of the garden, but there are stairs if you want to see it from the very top. I liked the curved, mirrored animal wall with its white and gold creatures in flight inside one section. At the very top it is certainly breathtaking and had lovely views of the ocean. I have definitely never seen a place like this in my life before! The flowers were still in bloom in October as well. A very peaceful, pleasant experience and there is also another large park at the bottom that, unfortunately we didn’t have time to see, but it did look lovely from above!

This park is BEAUTIFUL and was one of our favorite places we visited in Japan. This is a two ish hour bus ride from Osaka. If you need a break from the business of Osaka, I highly recommend visiting here. Even if you don’t need a break, I recommend it. It is fairly easy to get to (just use Google Maps for transportation) and you could spend the entire day here. The pedal boats were especially fun, and you can feed the koi fish.
Emma B — Google review
Very very pretty flowers for about a month in April-May. The fields aren’t actually as big as they appear in photos though. In reality it’s just slightly disappointing. Not a lot of places to sit or much shade and just kind of an old park. It was a nice visit overall though

By far the most amazing flower/landscape park in Japan I visited and I visited many! Huge territory very well maintained, exquisite landscaping, lots of various flowers and plans (of course Spring and Fall are the best seasons), lots of benches and spots to admire, wide sea panorama, low price, nice not expensive hotel nearby for a overnight stay, which is recommended. Excellent!🌟

The Awaji Puppet Theater, with a history of over 500 years, is dedicated to preserving the traditional art of the Awaji Puppet Narrative. This important intangible folk cultural property is showcased through performances where puppeteers manipulate puppets while a gidayu-bushi narrator skillfully changes voices for each character. The unique music from Japan's futozao shamisen adds to the storytelling experience.
This is a traditional Awaji Puppet show performance. The puppets exhibit vivid human-like expressions and movements through the puppeteers. We watched the 11am puppet show and it was voiced by a middle-aged male actor in Japanese. Through his singing and dialogue, his performance was immerssive and captivating. We are given a synopsis in English prior the show and we managed to follow the plot.
Larry K — Google review
It was closed on Wednesdays generally and also for A&A works when we were there mid October 2024. That’s a shame. There’s many show times from morning until late afternoon. We didn’t get to see anything due to the closure. They only had the closure information at the theater door. We only found out when we wanted to buy tickets. Maybe next time.
ML — Google review
We are surprised not many tourism site are introducing this theater. Small but well organized theater with knowledgeable staffs. We enjoyed the puppets show with live vocal story telling and “shamisen”; traditional Japanese banjo. We would like to recommend to any ages who can appreciate music and entertainment. We loved the way we can involve the show with tossing tip “ohineri” and nice to take a picture with puppet and puppet master after the show. Admission fees are reasonable. Free parking. Gift shop.

The puppet moved like alive. The drum and narrator were great, too. Good place to visit.
Rika S — Google review
In the entertainment industry, where ups and downs are common, it seemed like a pioneering initiative to not only explain each role and what goes on behind the scenes before the show, but also to have the audience stand on stage and experience the opening scene facing the audience seats. It's also wonderful that they're making their core fans fall even more in love with the Awaji Puppet Theatre by having hometown taxpayers stand on stage and play roles.
Tachibana K — Google review
Great opportunity to experience traditional puppet theatre in Japan. They provide an English translation of the play for you to follow along with. No photography or videography is allowed during the play. Shows are short sections of an entire play and all the narration is done by one person sitting to the side. It’s fascinating to see the vocal range of the narrator and how realistic the puppets movements look! The only downfall is the shows are a little short so I would recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!
Georgia N — Google review
Very interesting. They obviously did not have foreign groups visit much but they were very enthusiastic and clearly tried their best to get information across and make it fun for us. I do not think watching bunraku (Japanese puppet theatre) is for everyone. But if you are interested in Japanese culture or drama or puppets, I recommend it. Note that when we were there, the first show of the day was a backstage tour--my friends who speak no Japanese did that backstage tour as well as watching a performance (second show of the day) and still had a great time. As a note, the town overall is not very foreigner friendly, so were very happy to have a great experience at the puppet theatre.

Set against beautiful Fukura Bay, Awaji Ningyo Za offers a magical entrance into the captivating tradition of Japanese puppetry. The beautiful one-of-a-kind theater offers daily performances with skillfully manipulated puppets, stunning sets, and a mesmerizing fusuma karakuri show. This was the highlight for my trip, with large hand painted sets that move in and out to create stunning pictorial vignettes. There’s nothing like it. The shows are also short and great for families and children. If you have the opportunity to go, don’t miss diving into this special home for Japanese puppetry and Awaji’s rich performance history. English audio guides are available for guests!

This stunning beach stretches approximately 2,500 meters and is adorned with over 50,000 pine trees that create a picturesque backdrop against the clear waters and soft white sands.
Had this spontaneous idea of exploring today . Fell in Love with beach obviously definitely comming back for another set of photos and memories soon ❤️

It's a beautiful beach with a small pier with rock pools and clear water. If you take a photo in the right place it looks like the canaries. This place also has the most majestic sunsets which are extremely beautiful. Only issue is some parts of the beach are quite dirty with lots of rubbish 😔. But it's not a large part so don't worry. For swimming id recommend you go May-September. you could go April but it's a little cold. Overall a 4/5 beach

May 19, 2025 A very ordinary local beach with not much to write home about. Since my friend and I had some spare time we dropped by to go northbound from the southern end of the island. Maybe it’s more spectacular during sunset since it’s on the west side of the island?

It's so beautiful ☺🥰 it's also free parking when i went there this Saturday in summer. The marbles are so pretty colorful and the scenery is just so beautiful. It's not sand but i really enjoyed it! 💛 very beautiful for sunset spot! 🌅 I will give 5 stars if there's a convenient store nearby or cafe or something but there's nothing. But they do have vending machines for drinks only. And small toilet to clean up. But there are cafe in a distance walk and hotels.

Awaji Monkey Center is a spacious facility that houses monkeys in their natural habitat. It serves as a research project for the Japanese monkey, and visitors can observe them freely roaming around the area. The center also features a gift shop and feeding area where tourists can get up close to these cute animals. The monkeys are well-fed by the staff, making it unnecessary for them to leave.
I had a great experience here! What I like most is that the monkeys are wild and are free to come and go as they please. It's not like a zoo where the animals are kept in cages, the monkeys are free to go wherever they like. At the moment there are many baby monkeys which is very cute. The views are wonderful and the staff are friendly. You can feed the monkeys nuts and vegetables for an extra charge of ¥200
Darren M — Google review
Tons of monkeys and a few deer. You can feed the monkeys only once but it's a cool area to hang out with them.
Reyn Y — Google review
First time I’ve ever interacted with monkey so closely. I was surprised how many monkeys there were and the babies were so cute. It definitely is worth the trip though I think you need a car to get there. For $2 you can feed the monkeys some dried fruit.
William O — Google review
The Awaji Island Monkey Center is my favorite place on earth!!! If you are visiting Japan and want a very special experience enjoying nature and animals, you must see this monkey center. My boyfriend and I flew from Los Angeles to Japan specifically to see these monkeys, and it was worth every penny! These are wild Japanese macaques who are provisioned with food. They come down to the monkey center for snacks and to hang out, and it’s clear that they love being there. Awaji monkeys are an especially friendly and harmonious group of Japanese macaques; they are very special to see! You can come up close to them to observe them and take photos, but you cannot touch them (for their safety and yours.) You can also buy a cup of monkey food, then you go inside a little gated area and feed them with a gloved hand. It’s so funny to watch them stick their little hands out in hopes of getting a treat! The staff is absolutely wonderful and so helpful. They know all about the monkeys, and they know all the monkeys’ names. You can follow the monkey center on Instagram to get acquainted with the different monkeys before you go, and there are lots of great Instagram pages dedicated to these monkeys as well! We spent two days visiting the monkeys, but wish we could have stayed forever. It’s just so peaceful, and the monkeys are so cute, you will fall in love with them! It’s also a great place for kids, we saw lots of families visiting. The little kids’ excitement at seeing the monkeys was adorable. I hope you have the chance to visit and enjoy it as much as we did! Travel tips: If you are flying in from another country/the U.S., you can fly into Kansai Airport in Osaka (KIX). There is an “airport limousine” bus (basically a nice bus, not an actual limo) that goes directly from KIX airport to Sumoto, which is a nice city on Awaji Island near the monkey center. We stayed in Sumoto, and it was lovely. There is a local bus that goes between the Sumoto Interchange (the main Sumoto bus center) and the monkey center. You can also take a taxi from Sumoto to the center, but be advised that it may be difficult to get a taxi back, so try to catch the bus! There is also a restaurant right next to the center that has delicious curry and udon noodles, so you can have a food break if you are planning to spend a full day there. Lastly, be sure to check the monkey center’s website to see which months have more monkeys visiting the center, so you can get the full experience. Some seasons, the monkeys prefer to be up in the mountains, so try to go when there’s a high likelihood of monkeys visiting!
Erika S — Google review
It was a brief stop. But if you dont have any free time to spare, just dont go.
Elon T — Google review
I expected that animals here could bebtraeted badly as in adventure world but I'm quite surprised that they are free. They can leave the center any time they want. It's not allowed to touch monkeys which is bad because it limits the fun of contact with them but on the other hand let them stay wild-like. Overall positive 🙂
Robson — Google review
This was a priceless experience. Being able to walk and sit around these beautiful primates was incredible. They are gentle creatures and the little ones are so much smaller and cuter in reality. The staff is very nice and very loving toward the monkeys. Now I think of these little primates as little people. This is what this experience has taught me.
May L — Google review

Dragon Quest Island is a real-life rendition of the beloved Japanese RPG game, Dragon Quest. Visitors can embark on an adventure through medieval landscapes, encountering monsters and exploring castle towns and forests. The attraction offers an English version of the adventure for non-Japanese speakers and provides assistance from a fortune teller if needed. With cute monsters to interact with and immersive town settings, it's an enjoyable experience for fans of the game or those new to it.
It was so much fun!!! You walk around the city looking for clues, fight various Dragon Quest monsters and try to save the day. There is also a side quest available if you’re looking to expand/prolong your visit. I highly recommend coming here - English translations are available for the game play. The gift shop is also fantastic. If you’re a big fan of Dragon Quest, then you definitely need to check it out. Enjoy

The nostalgic music and spell sounds brought back so many memories—hearing "Begirama" again was such a thrill! Time flew by as I explored the world of Dragon Quest for nearly two hours. A must-visit for any fan, with plenty of great photo spots and immersive experiences for both kids and adults.

Don't want to say too much or post too many photos because I don't want to spoil it, but if you love Dragon Quest, even a percentage of how much I love it, you will have to make time in your life to come here. I planned a 2 week trip to Japan and made sure to set a day aside for this, and all I can say is that this is the best theme park I've ever been to. It's such an amazing experience. The staff are all super friendly and helpful in both English and 日本語. I will have to come back here next time I visit Japan.
Sin — Google review
My child asked me to come here - and what a great experience. So many elements like the Dragon Quest / Dragon Warrior games. The areas were setup and run much like one might expect in DQ3 and there were many nice areas for one to pose for photos. The statues were quite good and the game and side quest quite enjoyable. The gift shop at the end was also quite nice. Getting here involved taking a train from Osaka to Maiko followed by a bus. I was fairly easy to do. There is a lot of walking during the game, but that was fine. They also have water for sale on site. Sunscreen is a good idea since there are a many open areas (though one can find shade). The area also has many other theme parks (though we didn’t visit them). For kids, there are also arts and crafts where one can paint on plaster slimes and other characters (we might have done this if time permitted). It was a fun place to visit

If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly adventure, Dragon Quest Island on Awaji Island is a must-visit! Even if you’ve never played Dragon Quest, it’s an incredible experience where you can embark on a real-life quest, solve puzzles, and explore fantastical worlds. And that’s not all—there are other exciting attractions too! You can learn about the legendary Godzilla and even zipline straight through his giant mouth (yes, really!). It’s a day full of fun, creativity, and unique adventures that everyone in the family will love. Perfect for gamers, thrill-seekers, or anyone looking for something out of the ordinary!

Best day ever. It's so immersive and loads of fun! The staff are very friendly and enthusiastic about their jobs! The food at Luida's Bar is tasty and quirky. I went on a weekday and it was quiet which was quite lucky! If you're a Dragon Quest fan, you definitely won't be disappointed. Even if you're not a fan, if you're in the area, I think you would still enjoy it! The quests take 1-4 hours, depending on how quickly you try and do them and if you get the side quests but I would reccomend taking your time and enjoying the experience rather than rush it! 10/10
Timmy T — Google review
In you first hour here you will swear you walked into a Dragon Quest game (first timers: some spoiler-free tips for you at the end). Characters speak to you through chittering, gold-framed text boxes and Sugiyama-sans music beckons you on to adventure. There is a town to explore, chests to open, monsters to defeat (and make friends with), you really are living out dragon quest! Getting to meet your cute monster friends is probably the real treat of it all. You'll want to hug them and scratch their ears. Fighting them is a blast too, as the game asks you to strike a pose each time it's your turn--helping you get into the moment despite using the simplest interaction (touching your adventurer's medallion to the sensor at each terminal) to do everything. Just like any DQ game, you'll be pressing your "action button" a lot, criss crossing your path (between town, the woods, and the hill) a lot, and really trying to loot everything you can come across. So let's talk a few tips to make your day more fun: - Don't bother trying to open the chests before it's time. The story dictates when you can loot them, and you only get to open around two different sets out of many more. Don't worry about how to do it or which ones to do, the main path of the game will guide you there. - You get a map that details every building in town with your welcome pamphlet. Take a pen and don't be afraid to mark it up. As you go searching for and collecting various things, you'll save a lot of time if you know where you've been already! - Time? Expect to spend 3 hours here minimum, more if you try to explore every corner like we do. The side quest (part of the premium ticket) adds another hour minimum, but it's cute and totally worth it! - That's 3+ hours you'll be criss-crossing town, which has next to no shade or air conditioning. Wear your sun block, bring two bottles of water. - Pack your bug spray while you're at it. Japanese mosquitos love tourists, and that goes double in the North Woods. - Take a break ANY TIME YOU LIKE. Once you can leave town, you don't have to cross into the woods. You can go to Ludia's bar to have lunch and something cold to drink. - Ludia's Bar is the place to go for expensive themed food, but there's a general cafe right up the hill by the godzilla park. It's open to everyone and has a much broader selection of food and drinks to enjoy. - Finally, pack some patience. You will see plenty of tourists in the day, and plenty of their kids will think they can be as loud and privileged as they want to be. In the end remember to have fun. Several hours later we were exhausted, and sweaty, but also really happy we got to meet some of our favourite creatures and take part in a genuine DQ story for a few hours!
GB C — Google review
This place was so much fun!! There are buses from kobe-sannomiya which we took to get to Awaji. The game is very reminiscent of classic dragon quest and the atmosphere of the town and surrounding areas really has to be experienced in person to get the full effect. I really appreciated that the experience was fully playable in English too. The food at Ruida's/Luida's Bar was great too! They had a hamburger steak with Awaji beef and Awaji onions that was really really good, though everything we ordered (pancake slime souffle, a rice curry dish, and a few drinks) was all really tasty. Highly recommend this to anybody who's a Dragon Quest fan!

Godzilla Interception Operation Awaji is the world's first Godzilla theme park, featuring a life-size 120-meter-long Godzilla on Awaji Island. Visitors can participate in missions as members of the National Godzilla Awaji Island Research Center and enjoy ziplining into the beast's mouth with two available courses. Accessible via a beautiful bridge from Kobe, the park offers various attractions such as a museum and film experience.
A zipline through (or past) godzilla's mouth. The cheapest ticket gets you on the zipline and includes a little shooting gallery type game as well. Very good value for what you get. The higher tier tickets include more immersion like the museum and a puzzle/clue hunting type game you play around the park. We went during the week so there was no lineup. The staff are great too, prioritising safety for the zipline.

Amazing Godzilla experience in multiple ways! The zip line was an amazing, one of a kind experience but the museum was also incredible! On top of that the merchandise store rivaled the Godzilla store in Tokyo

What a fun time! If you're a fan of Godzilla, here's the place for you. The zip line was a lot of fun - what a huge noggin to zip through. The museum was very cool, I loved going through and pointing out the different Kaiju from each era - and the little movie/picture op at the end was actually way more hilarious than I thought it'd be. At the end of the day, it's a theme park. If you like the theme, you'll like the park! Also, bonus - the mothra curry was delightful. Only difficult to eat because it was so cute!!

Absolutely had a blast. A must for any Godzilla fan. I quite enjoyed the museum too.
Nathan N — Google review
I was a bit concerned that it was a bit far from Osaka to make a trip, but we have absolutely no doubt now it was worth the trip, truly memorable experience and something we will remember for the rest of our lives. The food (while mine was monster hunter themed) was some of the nicest theme park food we had eated. Not only that, we had some issue (we misplaced our memento photo/video from the Godzilla museum), we contacted them and Irie was able to find the digital copies and send them to me, great service and experience. A highlight from our trip to Japan, highly recommended.
Cygnus R — Google review
Great time! Godzilla zipline is fun. The shooting game is also great. The monster hunter experience was our favorite. Very interactive and let's you see most of the park.
Square A — Google review
We went to the park from Osaka, and it took us quite a while to get here. Godzilla is just part of the activity but it’s the reason we came here. Overall we do really love it and enjoy the experience. Do hope that it can expand to include more activities n merchandise.
Jo K — Google review
Me and two friends had a great time with this, staff were fantastic and explained everything very well considering we only know very basic Japanese. They were very enthusiastic despite it being a quiet day. The zip line was awesome and the movie beforehand setting it up as well as the museum was great. The shooting part was a slight let down but overall the whole experience was very enjoyable!

Located on Awaji Island, Hello Kitty Show Box is a unique theater shaped like Hello Kitty's head. The venue offers the Hello Kitty Dream Entertainment Show, featuring a blend of live performances and hologram media art. Nearby, visitors can also find the Hello Kitty Smile resort and attraction. Guests recommend making advance reservations for the cafe plan, especially during peak times. Despite its distance from Osaka, visitors find it worth the trip due to ample parking and friendly staff at this cozy restaurant with limited seating.
-Visited on a Monday and it was not that crowded. -Drove from Osaka and it was a little far but it was worth it. There is enough parking space. -Bought tickets in advance through KKday but the staff had difficulty finding the record so she took some time. Staff was friendly. -Cozy restaurant. Limited seats available so they will assign a table and time slot when you get the tickets. -The hello kitty show was interesting -The tea time set was nice and worth it (1 dessert & 1 drink) -Some parts of the menu requires additional cost. -The shop is located in the building with the restaurant. -One photo taking after the show

I and my daughter had a lot of fun here and we took the free shuttle bus from Awaji IC. Note that the shuttle stop is located at the roadside parking lot a few steps from the entrance to this theme park. Kind of confusing to new visitors. We had an excellent lunch, watched the show and celebrated my daughter’s birthday thanks to the nice and free option. Definitely recommended if you get an opportunity to visit any nearby cities such as Kobe or Osaka. Afternoon we continued to the Hello Kitty Smile

Hello kitty showbox is a fun place for the whole family to enjoy. It’s very instagram friendly and the shop has lots of limited edition sanrio items to offer. Be sure to check out the restaurant/show as well. You can watch a show and eat at the same time just make sure to check the show times online before going. The food and the show was excellent and I’ll definitely recommend it.
HapiTravels — Google review
If you love hello kitty, you must visit there. You can buy the combo set for hello kitty show box with hello kitty museum. As I eat the burger, it is not really so good. But the dessert is nice. Overall, the decoration is so good and the show is really nice with nice performance.
Happy H — Google review
I don’t think I can recommend going here to anyone. The main reason is that getting there, and navigating around the island between hello kitty smile and hello kitty show box is really difficult. It took me 3+ hours from Osaka station, and I took an extremely expensive taxi when I missed the bus by a little bit. I was at smile box 5 minutes before my reservation, was told to go back and wait in the huge line by Apple house, waited there for 20 min, then the line was moved to smile box. I thought they were going to turn me away, but I just sat down right before the show started. Honestly it’s not really worth the price or hassle it’s legitimately only like 10 minutes long. The food is good, but also not worth the hassle.
Shawn T — Google review
I’m from America and this was the best burger I’ve ever eaten. The apple juice was also incredible. I want to visit again! 🐱🍎❤️

The Uzu no Oka Onaruto Bridge Memorial Museum is a hilltop complex that offers stunning views of the Naruto Strait and features a large onion sculpture. Due to renovation work, the Michi no Eki Uzushio has temporarily moved to a nearby hilltop and operates as Michi no Eki Uzushio in Uzumachi Terrace, offering various island specialties.
20250324 A small stop but I love this place probably because I like onion! Got great view, a few nice onions to take photo with and a lot of onion goods to buy. It was our third stop with these kind of goods but it was the biggest.

If you drive and have enough time then can consider to come here. It is very far and at the end of the awaji island. View is good but no need to purposely come here. Many local visited here and queued for the overpriced onion burger. Many cars over the weekend and jam to enter the car park

A must if you are in Awajishima. The view on Shikoku is beautiful and the restaurant on the 2nd floor is very good with a very nice view (I advise you to directly go there and register yourself, you can then follow the waiting time on your phone). As for the activities, it is mainly just pictures and a nice crane game that cost 500yen, which you will still receive onion whether yo win or not. I STRONGLY advise you to go there at the opening as it is just too crowded starting 10:00.
Alexandre N — Google review
May 19, 2025 A must-visit on Awaji Island with spectacular views of Shikoku and several giant onions as photo ops. So many quirky onion goods to buy as souvenirs!
Andromeda T — Google review
A hilltop where can oversee the bridge from a distance. Free parking. The souvenir shop sells lots of “awaji onion” related products. Onions planted in this area are more sweet and less spicy. The hamburger booth next to the parking lot is famous in Japan, so I had to wait in a line for 20 mins to enjoy this gourmet. Overall it’s worth to spend few hours at here if you never came before.

Awaji World Park Onokoro is a delightful amusement park that offers an enchanting experience for visitors of all ages. Here, you can explore miniature replicas of 18 world heritage sites, making it feel like a global adventure in one location. Thrill-seekers will love the zip line that lets you soar through the air, while those looking for hands-on fun can engage with authentic air guns and participate in various workshops to create unique souvenirs like incense and candles—local specialties from Awaji Island.
Nice place from outside with a sea view. It opens up to 5:00 PM. There is a shop outside the park where you can buy Onions, garlic and Japanese Sake in cheap price. To visit the park it costs 1600 yen for adult and 800 yen for little one. If you go in group the cost may be below.
Bidip D — Google review
VERY NOT WORTH THE PRICE BETTER NOT GOING CAUSE ITS ONLY A WATSE FOR TIME AND MONEY the ticket is only for admission, and all of the others cost you 400¥ above for each
Maru T — Google review
The rating reflects having zero kids while visiting. The day pass is the best bang for your buck because of the unlimited rides for most attractions. Regular admission is not worth it even with a lot of opportunities to take photos of model buildings or characters. The shooting range is outdated and expensive at 1000Y but is fun regardless. The maze is actually difficult. For parents with young kids, this place is definitely 5/5 with the day pass.

I went with my mother to the "Kanetaka Kaoru Travel Museum". "Kanetaka Kaoru Travel Museum" will be closed in February 2020. I was able to learn about cultures around the world and her greatness. I was able to feel the history from her photos taken with Albert Schweitzer. Folk costumes range from very beautiful to simple. I saw the Masai`s shield for the first time. I was very impressed with her achievements that introduced the cultures and customs of the world. Right now, we can get information about the world. But she released the information 60 years ago. The Japanese were able to learn valuable foreign cultures, albeit slightly. By the way, the quality of ONOKORO`s attractions is too low.😭😭😭

Step into the vibrant world of the beloved anime series at Crayon Shin-chan Adventure Park. This colorful amusement park is a paradise for fans, featuring zip lines, giant athletic equipment for kids, and an immersive experience with manga characters. The park's design mirrors the whimsical world of Crayon Shin-chan, making it a treat for the eyes. Visitors can also explore a merch shop and take photos with their favorite Shin-chan figures.
I am a fan of shin chan so absolutely adored the park. It’s free to enter and full of shin-Chan character figures to take pics with! There is a merch shop too! It’s the same entrance as Naruto and Godzilla park. U have to pay separately for the activities in there. Otherwise, entrance is free and parking is free. There are 2 parts of the shin chan park. The “horror house” part is slightly further down the hill on opposite side. There are a lot of shin chan figures here at “horror house” part and also showcases a partial nursery from the anime.

All personalized, there is a free bus (hello kitty, Godzilla... )to get to the park. There is missions at the naruto área. Beautiful place.
Maria C — Google review
I went here a day before my birthday. Since October is Naruto’s birthday, if your birthday falls on Sept or Oct, you can request for a birthday sticker and stick it on your shirt and the staffs will wish you. As a Naruto fan since childhood, this place is the only place I really wanted to visit when I came to Japan and it didn’t disappoint at all. I bought the tickets from Klook and the process was very direct. To get there, just follow google map but once you reach to the station and it’s walking distance to the Naruto park, better take Uber to cover the walking distance. There were no clear signs where to go and stuff and Uber was reasonable priced and go to parking lot F. And vice versa when you getting back, just use Uber to the bus station. Everything was so good here, I really enjoyed my time. Truly made me so happy. The missions and attractions. It was small but it’s very nice. And the Ichiraku ramen, you MUST eat it here. It was so yummy, just wow. Overall if you’re a Naruto fan, you’ll really enjoy it. I really loved my time here.

Gorgeous island with so many attractions to see. Not too hard to enjoy as a great day trip out from Osaka with access via a giant suspension bridge.

A kid friendly #theme park for anime lovers. It is a huge park with lots of activities. Some of the parks are quite expensive. However, even if you do not join these activities it is still a nice place to visit and enjoy nature since it is a huge green park with a nice playground. It has a small pond for kids to play and enjoy hot summer days. For parents, l recommend you to bring a small tent or chairs with parasol. Although vending machines are available, l suggest for you to bring your own drinks. There was not an entrance fee, and there was plenty of parking space. Also, you can access there by complimentary shuttle service.

Took 2 hours from Osaka to there , the bus from Sannomiya station to Awaji island, the bus stopped us somewhere and we need to walk about 30mins uphill to reach the park (guided by Google map) and apparently, only 1 direct bus in the morning & afternoon around 4.30pm from Sannomiya staion - Park - Sannomiya staion. We only covered Naruto Park and finished around 3.30pm, we didn't want to wait, so i have to get the souvenir shop assistant to call a taxi to take us to Sannomiya station (30mins ride) cost me Yen150000. The overall experience was nice, but beware of buying the ticket, the only different of the VIP ticket is come with a Bag, they should have told us, we ended up have to carry 2 extra. bag with us.

Eshima, located at the northern tip of Awaji Island, is a picturesque observation point with mythological significance. It is associated with the creation myths of Japan and has been likened to Onokoro Island due to its sculptural beauty shaped by winds and waves. The island offers stunning views of the Akashi Strait and has been a popular subject in Japanese poetry. Visitors can walk to Eshima Island from Iwaya town, where they can enjoy a nice beach and rent bicycles.
Very small tiny but I really liked it. The gate was close so no chance to go on to that rocky area though there were some sitting bench. The view is photogenic and the reflection on water was really really great.

Pretty cool little place at the edge of Awaji Island. A lot of hawks or maybe eagles flying around going for fish. Eshima is right next to Iwaya Port Building, deserves a quick stop if just out of convenience. A shrine is also near by, 3 minute walk at most.

Since a couple years ago, this little island has been protected by local authority So you can't land this place Because this place is made of very fragile sand stone and been getting corrosion by sea Now only thing that you can do is just to see from the bridge

Located at the northern tip of Awaji Island, it is one of the legendary sites associated with the creation myths of Japan called "Onokoro Island." It is believed that the sculptural beauty, shaped by the long-standing winds and waves against the backdrop of the Akashi Strait, where the Ama divers played an active role, was likened to Onokoro Island. It has long been known as a scenic spot and has been the subject of numerous Japanese poems (waka).

Under the expert guidance of Chef Masayuki Okuda, guests are treated to authentic Italian dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients like fresh vegetables and succulent Awaji beef.
One of my favorite bakerys on the island. Their onion cheese bread is out of this world! Whenever I am on Awaji, I have to stop here for this bread. They also have two restaurants here which I have not tried yet, but they look nice with outdoor seating.

Buffet of vegetables and some side dishes included in the price. There’s also a shop inside with Awaji Onion products and a bakery section
Tamás Z — Google review
I guess if you have no where else to go, you can go here. I expected a bit more the website descriptions but actually it’s just a small eatery, farm local goods shopping space, small bakery, big carpark, some dog run spaces and a very tiny animal area which they charge 300 yen entry as a zoo, can’t really call it a zoo, maybe like a pet area. The food is alright, the salads are fresh but the buffet part of the meal is really cold, I think there should be proper warmers for hot foods to make them tastier. Price is alright over 2000yen if you consider it’s like a half buffet. The shuttle bus from Iwaya port to this place was really erratic and not following the timetable on the sheet issued by the hotel, it was so difficult to arrange our time and we felt so trapped by the situation as this place is really quite out of the way, there’s no bus no taxi, unless the shuttle bus comes or you drive, you’re pretty much trapped. Haven’t been there before so we checked it out, but one time is enough.

We visited in January, and the place was empty. There were hardly any staff around to consult. We had a look around on our own, there was signage in English. We were interested in a perfume activity but had not booked in and couldn't find a reception office or staff to ask about this. The shop is interesting and we brought some essential oils. The cafe and plant shop were good we enjoyed the burgers. This place caters to an older cliental, I would take my parents and in-laws there. It was cloudy, so we didn't see the view. The scent garden was well laid out and labeled but dormant due to winter. It's possibly a better place to visit in peck season.

Nestled next to the beach, the Awajishima Museum serves as a treasure trove of Awaji Island's rich history and culture. This main museum invites visitors on an enlightening journey through time, showcasing artifacts from mythical eras to modern times. It's particularly fascinating for those interested in local railroads and lesser-known historical sites. The museum is housed within the remnants of a former castle, offering stunning views from its elevated position on Mt. Mikuma.
3 floors and many things to watch. It is a nice place for a small city. Worth the visit.

Naruto x Boruto park Nijigen no mori is a unique theme park on Awajishima that seamlessly blends anime, technology, and nature. Visitors can immerse themselves in the worlds of popular Japanese anime like Dragon Quest, Godzilla, and Naruto through various attractions such as ziplines and shooting games.
I was so excited about this experience, and I was not disappointed one bit, if you are a fan of the show you are in for a treat, very fun, much bigger than expected, very worthy of the premium experience because it gets you cool bags and secret missions across the park. The food is delicious, everything is so Naruto accurate that you will feel like a Shinobi yourself. I wish I could rate this higher than 5 stars, I had a great time and will leave with great memories. It's a little hard to get there but totally worth it!

Fun challenges. Staff was friendly especially the bald guy😅. I got the cheapest ticket and I already have tons of fun solving the challenges with my gf. Recommend to bring 1 or 2 friends. However the food there can be improved as well as the place to eat was not very good.

Nice place for theme. Daughters loved it. Came by taxi. Was difficult to go home as we did not know shuttle schedules or bus stations. Was raining when we came and not busy. Nice area to visit other parks.
HECTOR M — Google review
This was one of my bucket list places in Japan, it was fun but you can tell it needs some repairs here and there. I don’t recommend going in August as the main attractions are an outdoor 4 floor wooden maze and with no AC and a outdoor path and puzzle. With all the kids and people … it was a lot in +35 weather. I got the basic tickets which allowed us in to the two main attractions with in the park and the restaurant. If you take the Naruto Bus and get dropped off at the parks main entrance, be prepared for a 15 min walk to the Naruto Park. Bring an umbrella for sun coverage ! And make sure you have your way back planned out, the bus system leaving isn’t as easy.
Danica S — Google review
Really cool experience for fans of the anime and kid friendly. The maze is kid friendly (and probably made for kids) but the adults had a lot of fun on this one. Ichiraku's ramen shop at the top of the hill was pretty good too! Whole experience really fed my childhood.

Road station Uzushio, also known as Michi-no-Eki Uzushio, is a popular stop for travelers looking to experience the local flavors and culture of Awaji Island. Situated on Naruto-misaki (Cape Naruto), it offers stunning views of O-Naruto Bridge and the possibility to witness the powerful eddying current in the strait. The station is renowned for its original award-winning hamburger, made with ingredients that showcase the region's culinary prowess.
Nice views from Awaji Shima across to tokushima, Shikoku. You can see the uzushio whirlpool from a distance. It’s quite amazing. The toilets in the rest stop are modern and clean. There’s a lot of wide parking space. There’s a gift shop there with local products and produce like the famous onions from Awajishima. There’s a lot of local stuff for dogs too which is great for dog lovers to buy a gift or let your dogs enjoy. Did not see Awaji dog products after this. A nice pit stop on the journey from Shikoku to Awaji.

Spectacular view with restaurants, a museum and souvenir shops. Great place to hang out and to dine in with the perfect scenery! This place is a must visit if you are in Awaji!!
M ( — Google review
A small roadside station, but it offers an amazing view of the Naruto Bridge and the Naruto whirlpool in the distance. The Awaji beef burger and onion burger are a must-try, though I did not get the chance to try the onion ice cream. The souvenir shop sells plenty of Awaji products, including a variety of Awaji onions, and even offers free self-service tastings of onion soup. The interior is narrow and can feel very crowded on a weekday, probably due to the start of school holiday. We had planned to visit Uzu no Oka Onaruto Bridge Memorial Museum, which also serves onion burgers (same brand), but the traffic jam there was terrible, so we ended up here instead, with a smaller crowd. I would love to return in cooler weather if I have the chance.

Very beautiful place. Nice to get the view of the Naruto (thus is a little far away) and buy some souvenirs. Loses a star because the ice cream does not have any taste at all.

Wakoudonohiroba Park is an impressive location offering a panoramic vista of 360 degrees. The architectural marvel, crafted by the same individual responsible for Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building's design, adds to its allure. The exquisite cherry blossoms further enhance its beauty. Notably, the tower's design resembles the tip of a fountain pen, symbolizing youthfulness. This park also features a scenic mountain road and a splendid stone building that captures attention and sparks curiosity among visitors.

There aren't many exhibits, so I honestly think it's hard to understand. However, I think about the 200,000 young people who crossed this scenic Nakaumi to go to war and dispersed. Some of them are students, and some of them are students, and when you look at their photos, you're surprised at how young they are. Speaking of Kenzo Tange, it is Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park. This youth plaza park has a similar structure, but it is different from the Hiroshima that Tange wanted to create. To put it simply, the wartime competition for the Greater East Asia Construction Memorial Building Project was grand. Hiroshima Memorial Park and Young People's Square Park were created with Tange's own reflections. (Translated by Google) In addition to being able to enjoy the spectacular view and see buildings designed by famous architects, I was also drawn to the fact that it was a facility dedicated to memorializing the lives of young students who lost their lives while going to war during the Pacific War. Visited with people. It was a Friday afternoon and there were no other visitors. Enter the building and enter the control room? When I asked through the window where the toilet was, an elderly man who appeared to be the manager came out and showed me the location with a smile. As I looked at the photos of the students who died in the war, their upbringings and final moments, as well as their handwritten diaries and letters, my heart tightened and I felt like I was about to burst into tears. On the way, it made a noise! The glass door opened by itself with a loud sound, and then closed after a while. I've heard stories of people feeling the presence of heroic spirits when they visited the Kamikaze Peace Hall in Chiran and the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, but for a moment I too wondered if there were still wandering spirits. However, I thought it was just a trick of the wind. Later, my wife went to the bathroom and was sitting alone watching the bidet. I noticed a jumping spider on my hand. The spider moved to the palm of my hand, looked up at me, and repeated its hurrah over and over again. When my wife came back, I asked her to take a video of it with her smartphone. However, once my wife started taking videos, I stopped wishing I had a chance. When I researched the jumping spider after returning home, I found that it did behave in a manner similar to that of ``Banzai.'' But why on earth does a tiny spider keep repeating hurrahs while looking up at the face of a gigantic opponent that could crush it? Maybe the souls of the boys and girls who lost their lives in the war are still there, and I was happy to see the man holding back tears when he saw the proof that they lived, and I borrowed the body of a small insect to express my gratitude. Was it an expression of joy? I suddenly stopped feeling so bold. It felt rude to think that it was just a coincidence. By the way, even when the door opened and closed on its own, I didn't feel scared at all. We must not forget that our current happy daily lives have been made possible through the sacrifices of many people, including these students. It was a pity that there were no other visitors, even though it was a weekday, and I wish more people would come here. I am embarrassed to say that I only recently learned of the existence of this facility, but I hope that many children will come and visit it on field trips. This facility, which was once closed and in ruins, was apparently visited by young people late at night as a haunted spot, and posted what they called haunted videos and pictures on social media. However, I would like to add that this is not a place to go and do silly things just for fun. I also tried to upload a video of the spider, but I couldn't upload it, so I could only take a screenshot. I did a lot of research and tried it, but unfortunately I couldn't do it! (Translated by Google) “Minamiawaji City: Youth Plaza Park” I stopped by on a motorcycle tour in September 2022. Although I went early in the morning and before the park opened, I was able to see some of the distinctive buildings and monuments. The scenery from the parking lot was also nice. The park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., every day of the year, and admission is free. The official name is ``War Memorial Youth Plaza.'' It was built in 1967 as a memorial facility for the male and female students who died during the last war when they were mobilized to work in various munitions factories during the middle of their studies. Including the students who went to the battlefield, the number reached approximately 4 million, of which approximately 200,000 students died. It is a facility that conveys to future generations the thoughts of these young students who gave their precious lives and the tragedy of war, and hopes for lasting peace. In the past, it was closed in 1994 due to a significant decrease in the number of visitors, and it was further damaged by the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, and has been abandoned for over 10 years since then. In 2004, the artifacts that had been on display in museums were donated to the Ritsumeikan University International Peace Museum. In August 2005, there were efforts to restore and light up the "Eternal Light" at the base of the cenotaph, but the facility remained in disrepair as entry was prohibited, and ruins-related books and websites no longer appear. It was about to be published. However, after that, Minami-Awaji City purchased the land and redeveloped it as a city park, ``Young People's Square Park,'' and reopened it in March 2015. I'm glad that this facility has become a living space. There is enough parking space. -Bought tickets in advance through KKday but the staff had difficulty finding the record so she took some time. -The observatory was great and you can choose to go up by the spiral stairs or by lift.

Going to Hello Kitty Apple House wasn’t really planned for my trip but since it was on the way to Hello Kitty smile we decided to stopover there first. The shuttle bus from Iwaya Port will bring you to the carpark below the Apple House. You need to walk up the hill yourself. Note there is no “bus stop” so it was kind of a run to where ever the shuttle bus stopped even though we were already waiting for the bus on our departure from Apple House. I forgot the ticket price but there’s a few options. We took the one with the tea time set meal snack & show since we happened to be there in time. I think it was 2:30pm. Of course, if you’re a hello kitty fan like me, everything would be cute and magical. But I feel that the sparkle was dampened by the rather curt staff who were manning the photo taking. They kept insisting One Group One Photo. But it’s just me & my friend. Literally if we chose to sit separately we wouldn’t be a group. We came from overseas. Fly all the way and travel there for hello kitty. The majority of everyone else was local Japanese. They refused to let each of us take photos with hello kitty. It HAD to be in a group. And they chased us away. Pretty upsetting. Literally they could just give us 10 seconds and individual photos would be snapped. Nobody is asking hello kitty for 10 minutes. Not even 5 minutes. Even 1 minute isn’t too long to ask for since we flew and traveled hours to see Hello Kitty. We really felt disrespected as guests. We also went to Hello Kitty smile & hello Kitty universal studios. The staff were all very kind and understanding. They allowed us to snap quick individual photos. Those were precious photos to us. Frankly, the food - all vegan desserts , and drinks were so-so. We didn’t come for the food. We came for Hello Kitty but we felt our purpose was badly disrespected. The rest of hello Kitty Apple house is just merchandise selling (mainly made in China) and photo spots only. The show when we went was the autumn hello kitty piano show for autumn. It was ok, mainly music played by the musicians, hello kitty only came out at the end for 2-3 songs and photo taking. Not very long. Less than 20 min. Even as a huge fan of hello kitty, I’m not so sure about this spot. I’d like to see hello kitty here again in different seasons. But I wish the staff would be kinder and more respectful to guests who made good effort and paid good money to come see hello kitty.

Pretty decent add-on to the Hello Kitty Smile experience. The family enjoyed it for the short time there and plenty of parking. Honestly, a tourist trap though so I would only recommend it if you are burning time or have a huge Sanrio fan in the family.

Very nice seashore after Natoura bridge, but the attraction ofbig apple and Hello Kitty House is not good enough for a designated trip

This is a little known place but a go to for die hard Hello Kitty fans in a great seafront. But admittedly you ideally should travel by car so this is a place locals go to. They have lunch and cafe ticket packages. After the show you can explore the Hyogo area.
Wilheim E — Google review
Caught a beautiful sunset here at the observatory! There is also a kitty show in the cafe, and we missed the last show which prolly started around 4pm. We purchased onsite, the ticket package that included this attraction and Hello kitty smile. It was a weekday so it wasn’t crowded at all! And I suppose it wasn’t summer so it’s not a popular spot

20250324 We didn't come with kids this time so we just have a quick walk around and prepare to come in the future. The car park needs more road sign as the exit is on the other side of the car park entrance. It is one way traffic but people don't realise that.

Iwaya Beach is a charming spot with free parking and minimal crowds, making it an ideal destination for a relaxing day by the sea. While there are locker and shower facilities available for a small fee, visitors can enjoy hot snacks, cold drinks, and even local draft beer from the nearby shop. The beach offers clear waters perfect for swimming, although some guests have noted that the sand could use a bit of cleaning due to scattered debris.
Great rest spot in the morning when you plan to cycle the island. Almost no people during autumn.

Great beach for a swim. The water was a perfect temperature. There are bathrooms but they were closed when I went. There is a port right next to the beach. And if you walk a little further there is a bus stop and a little store. The sand was soft and there was a bit of trash but it was still nice.

Nice beach close to the bridge. A scenic view for sure. There’s paid parking nearby. Only complaint is there a noticeable amount of trash that needs to be cleaned up.

Nice beach! Not too crowded, even though it's Sunday August 14. Free parking,& beach is basically free to use! Lockers & showers can be used for ¥1000 per person/day. (¥500 back when you return the locker key) There's a shop right there that serves hot snacks & cold drinks. Draft beer also. They had a local Awaji lemon beer on tap, it was pretty good! My only complaint would be about the sand. Little too much sharp sticks and garbage in the sand. They could clean it up a bit.

(Translated by Google) It is an artificial beach. At the very least, it doesn't seem like a natural beach that was formed by the accumulation of sand and gravel over many years. Perhaps they just used tax money to tear down a mountain somewhere and scatter the collected soil. Although the beach is unnaturally uniform and full of man-made objects, the scenery is not bad at all. Coconut trees are planted at equal intervals, creating a tropical atmosphere. I think the size is just right for a park. Beyond this point is Akashi Kaikyo National Park and the recently built Aqua Ignis. There are also Awajishima burger shops and seafood bowl shops. It would be great as a background for driving or cycling. Although it doesn't feel like being at the beach. The Otsuka Museum of Art, located in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture, was established by the Otsuka Group to celebrate its 75th anniversary. The museum houses over 1,000 full-size reproductions of famous Western artworks such as the 'Mona Lisa' and 'The Last Supper' by artists like Picasso, Renoir, and da Vinci.
Really enjoyed the museum. We arrived right around lunch time and decided to eat at the restaurant before walking around the museum. Lunch was very tasty and came out quite quickly. The menu is limited though, so if you have dietary preferences, you may want to eat elsewhere first. Lots to see in the museum. We spent about 3 hours looking around, if you’re really into art and analyzing paintings, you’ll need more time to really look at everything.

Visiting the **Otsuka Museum of Art** was such a cool experience! It's not your usual museum—everything is **ceramic reproductions** of famous Western masterpieces, but they're all **life-sized**, so it feels like you're touring the world's best galleries in one place. The **Sistine Chapel replica** was mind-blowing—you can even **take photos** (which you usually can't in real museums!). My favorite was Van Gogh’s *Sunflowers*—so vibrant! The museum is huge (4km of galleries!), so wear comfy shoes. A bit pricey (¥3,300 for adults), but totally worth it for art lovers!
TimBerg — Google review
It has 5 floors of remade art. Its not the real thing. But still fun to observe and see with your own eyes. I appreciate they have arrows on the ground to point which direction you should go. They have many cafes and places to sit and enjoy the view. I appreciate how many chairs were available to sit and relax in. I was there for 5 hours. I would have loved to stay longer. But with time constraints we had to head out. I do appreciate the lighting and the recreation. It makes you want to see the work in person. I hope I can do so one day. I would plan this as a whole day event. But if you are with kids that might not be possible. The Naruto whirlpool tours boat are near by if you want to find something different. Enjoy and take your time.
Grace M — Google review
The Otsuka Museum of Art is a huge Museum that cannot be covered in one day and needs few days to see everything. The collection of reproductions from all periods, starting from ancient history through midevil, Renessainc, Baroque, Impressionist period, expressionist, until modern art is amazing. Highly recommended to any art lover!
Ehud B — Google review
Excellent museum with a lot of interesting painting and presentation. 3300 yen of entrance fees was worth. There were a lot of exhibits and easily 4 hours could be spent here. There is a museum parking located (600m awat) near the naruto sightseeing boat parking. The museum is courteous enough to provide free shuttle vice versa.
Hock T — Google review
This is my favorite museum in Japan. Everything is a reproduction made by transferring ceramic two boards. You can take pictures, you can shoot video, you could even touch them.
L.E. O — Google review
This is a marvellous museum. If you visit Japan, do make an effort to visit this highly unique museum too. It is like this: whilst in Japan, you can tour the most historic and famous tourist destinations of Greece, Italy, Spain and others, all at once. How? They have recreated these places with astonishing technology. The technique of applying every colour to tiles – meaning any colour or image can be depicted on tiles. For instance, the most famous Impressionist paintings appear utterly lifelike, yet they are actually projections onto tiles. Visitors are even encouraged to touch them, revealing they are neither originals nor actual paintings. It is truly astonishing what modern technology can achieve. I repeat, this museum is an absolute must-visit. You will not be disappointed. After all, you can experience famous sights from around the world all in one place.
Max H — Google review
It is a MASSIVE museum with thousands of famous paintings in the world. It would take half a day to explore the entire area. These paintings are not the original ones but very close replicas. They offer some museum tours and it is very helpful for understanding the background of the works. I am not sure if they offer tours in English or other languages, but I think at least they provide an audio tool that explains them. The museum doesn’t just have a great replicas that made from pottery. It also replicates surrounding areas like caves and architecture transporting visitors to different places. Additionally, there is a lovely cafe where you can enjoy some food and drinks related to the arts and the area.

Visitors can enjoy strolling through five exhibition halls showcasing green plants, distinctive flowers, and lovely orchids. The entrance fee is surprisingly affordable considering the beautiful flora on display.
ご迷惑をおかけしますが、このレビューは英語で書かれています。 What a gorgeous place!! The architecture is fascinating! Although there are signs everywhere letting you know where to go, it feels like a maze because of the layout of the facility. Every angle of this place is so cool. The step gardens are beautiful! I must go again on a sunny blue-sky day. And definitely in the spring when I assume all the gardens will be full of bright flowers! The botanical museum was also so interesting! There were SO MANY kinds of flowers and almost every one of them was blooming!! What blew me away the most was their displays of carnivorous flowers! SO COOL!!! HIGHLY recommend making the trip if you can!! You could easily spend 3+ hours wandering this place. Parking is confusing at first because the Google map marker I used for navigation was placed at the stupid street intersection 🤦🏽‍♀️ if you're driving, turn in towards the main facilities (i.e. away from the sea), then go straight into the tunnel-looking entrance. It's a parking garage. There are a couple different exits to above ground so it doesn't really matter where you park in the garage.

The entrance fee was rather cheap (around ¥600) which was surprising because the flora displays were so beautiful! Though the indoor portion of the garden is small, it offered a beautiful selection of flowers arranged in unique ways. There is also a rose garden outside which is a perfect place for children to run around. At the end, we bought some of the onion potato chips at the gift shop, which were very delicious. I strongly recommend trying them!

It's a one-lane road, so it's better not to load and unload luggage if possible (although there is a bus stop nearby). ●Steps → Sandy beach, so it's easy to set up a tent, and the steps mean you don't need a chair. There is also a beach hut. ●The shower only has water, and the old lady at the reception is kind. The fee was 210 yen. It's a small beach, so it's fun for families with small children. They also rent out parasols, so it seems to be quite well-equipped. I didn't use it, so I don't know the details. Tokushima Prefectural Uzu-no-Michi Walkway, also known as Whirlpool Road, is a unique glass-floored walkway located under the Damingmen Bridge in Mingmen Strait, Japan. This nearly 500-meter long walkway offers stunning views of the Naruto Whirlpools in the Naruto Straits.
It's an underway passage/observatory under the bridge so it's possible to look and admire the whirlpools without taking a boat into the see. Nice experience.
Alberto T — Google review
I visited on 21 July and checked the tide schedule on the website in advance, picking the time for the strongest whirlpool that day. The walk to the viewing area was much longer than expected, and the worst part was that we could not even go further in to see the main whirlpool area where the sightseeing ships pass. Part of the bridge was under renovation and scaffolded, and the door to continue further was shut. I am not sure if it is always like this or if we were just unlucky that the bridge was closed halfway. To make things worse, there was an unpleasant toilet-like smell along the way to the viewing point. Overall, it was not worth the admission fee even though it’s inexpensive.
Leh P — Google review
Please note the Google hours mentioned are for summer and for winter they are earlier. Last entry is 4:30 m and it closes at five. It is at least a five maybe 10 minute walk from the top car park to where you buy tickets to go in. Parking cost ¥500 (we actually stayed in our campervan overnight and as long as you leave by 8:15 you won't be charged for the next day. We stayed here overnight because we had dogs and there's a little walk you can do to an observatory and lookout point where you can look down towards the whirlpools so if you arrive out of hours, I suggest you try this. The toilets were open all night while we were there. Great view early morning when the car park is empty before it starts to get busy.
Maria N — Google review
When you buy the tickets (¥510pp), you also receive a beautiful post card! Eventhough it is late May, the walkway was not only windy but cold too! Do bring a thin coat at least. Wow. The views of the swells creating the whirlpools are spectacular indeed. A pity the bridge structure may obstruct views. Improvise to look for the best angles! Best visited in the morning or late afternoon depending on the tide. Check online for the best date/time to coincide with your trip here.

(Translated by Google) This shrine is a representative power spot on Awaji Island. It was a five-minute drive from Izanagi Shrine. There are three entrances, but be careful as it is narrow and dangerous to drive through unless you take the widest road. When you arrive at the shrine, there are several shrines, and flags lined up on the stairs leading to Iwakami Shrine. As there was no one at the shrine, I was able to purchase a goshuin by putting money in the offering box. The 12-meter-tall, 16-meter-circumference Kogoishi (Himorogiishi), a sacred stone, is enshrined in the upper left of the shrine. To get there, go up the stairs from the left side of the shrine. It is an impressive giant rock that is well worth seeing. Even before the shrine was founded, a huge rock called the Shinto rock was worshiped. The shrine grounds, which can be reached by climbing up the stairs, are basically deserted. It has a slightly dim and somber atmosphere. However, the main hall, which is said to have been moved from Tatsuta Shrine in Yamato Province, which is now Nara Prefecture, is small but very colorful and beautiful, and eye-catching. The building is unique in its construction and was designated an Important Cultural Property of the prefecture in 1982, and underwent renovation work in 2003. The Shinto rock tends to attract attention, but the main hall is also worth seeing. The worship hall has various types of purification salt, and there is also a set of piled salt. The proceeds are used to maintain the shrine. It seems to be difficult due to a decrease in parishioners. Goshuin are written in advance. There is a parking lot. Vehicles can enter close to the shrine. We recommend taking the northeast route. The northwest route is shorter, but it is steeper and there is a risk of scraping the bottom of your vehicle when you start to approach. The northeast route is also narrow, but minibuses can pass through. Please note that vehicles, including motorcycles, are prohibited from entering the temple grounds. The Gossakaito Ruins are the remains of a village where ironworks were produced for over 100 years during the Yayoi period, and it was apparently a "blacksmith village" where many blacksmith workshops were discovered. We had lunch at the cafe first, then visited the small exhibition room and watched an explanatory video, before walking around the restored ruins outside. (Translated by Google) The Gossa Kaito Ruins are a late Yayoi period site that was discovered fairly recently during restoration work following a 2004 typhoon. Surprisingly, 12 of the 23 dwellings (half of the original) contain remains of furnaces for making ironware. Furthermore, numerous ironware from the Korean Peninsula have also been unearthed, likely arriving via the shipping route from the Korean Peninsula to Northern Kyushu and the Seto Inland Sea. Interestingly, during the reign of Himiko, after the Great War of Wakoku, or the birth of the Yamato dynasty, Gossa Kaito was deserted for 800 years. Prior to the Great War of Wakoku, the Yamato powers were said to have had a shortage of iron compared to the powers of Northern Kyushu. It's tempting to speculate as to which power the Gossa Kaito ironworks came under, where they were relocated to after the war, or whether they were destroyed and disappeared. This background makes the site all the more fascinating. It's a truly fascinating site. Embark on a unique adventure with the Whirlpools Cruise, sailing through the Naruto Strait to witness the awe-inspiring natural phenomenon of whirlpools. The strait, located between Awaji Island and Shikoku, is renowned for its powerful tides that give rise to some of the most impressive whirlpools in the world. On this retro sailing ship, you'll have an open deck vantage point to marvel at these natural wonders up close.
Wonderful experience of the marvels of nature. Ticket prices are reasonable ¥2500 per adult for this 1 hour cruise excursion. There’s many cruise timings per day but there’s only certain timings that have strong chance of the whirlpool. You can check their website and buy tickets directly online which is better than buying tickets upon arrival since you may not get tickets. Easy to exchange the tickets at the counter with the QR code. The parking area is across the building so it’s a bit confusing but the place is small so you can walk over easily. Descriptions on the cruise is only in Japanese so if you don’t understand Japanese, it could be hard to get deeper information about the phenomenon but it’s still ok to go explore this. Interesting that there’s multiple whirlpools happening simultaneous, as I thought it’s only a big one. There’s a small but well stocked gift shop there with local & regional products. Suggest you guys to shop while waiting for the cruise as you should arrive 30 min before cruise starts. After the cruise many people rush to shop, especially tour bus tourists so it’s crowded.

New experience to see Naruto whirlpool. I checked the forecast on the website , bought tickets in the machine tickets and walk to the pier, got warm welcome from staff , in the boat they had a lot of Japanese, only me is tourist. Used time around 45 minutes, staff speak only Japanese.
Cherry J — Google review
Recommended to book your cruise ticket online 1 day in advance and check the forecast for the visibility/size of whirlpool. You can also purchase at the counter, subjected to availability. Arrive at least 30mins before your cruise departure time. If you have bought your tickets online, exchange for physical tickets at the counter. Ensure your phone/camera has secured straps or they are securely fastened to your selfie sticks. The captain will steer the ship near the whirlpools and there is a narrator speaking in Japanese who will tell you where the whirlpools are. The cruise is about 45mins. Unisex toilet is available. Overall it is an enjoyable cruise and you will get to see Naruto whirlpools (naturally occurring) that is a result of the exchange of warm and cold water currents.

It was a wonderful experience...i had fun...there werwn't a lot of people which is great but maybe because it's winter and price is reasonable...they even have a tatami room below deck...

There are different boats leaving the center. Check the schedule and whether it coincides with the peaks of whirlpool activity. Usually that would be in the morning or late afternoon (impact of tides). The cruise is ~1 hour duration. Thus if the whirlpools start to wane by 11am for example, you would not want to take a 1030h cruise. It takes about 25-30 minutes to sail out of the harbor to Naruto bridge. This is our opinion. There is no doubt that being close to the whirlpools in a large ship is one of the safest option. But with a good camera and timing you can still take great pictures of the swells.
Mel M — Google review
An interesting yet exciting cruise . Cost of the cruise is reasonable and waiting time too was acceptable. Downside was, feeling a little unsafe as no life jackets was compulsory during the cruise but maybe thats just us land lovers . There are two types of cruise....one on a big boat and another on a small one. Each at a different port. We chose here with a smaller boat as its nearer to the looking glass bridge above.
Aryl S — Google review
I have a very good experience in Whirlpools Cruise. I booked a trip marked with a good whirlpool scale in advance. On that day, we went there at around 10 with cold weather and sky started raining. The staff from the cruise immediately prepared hand warmer and raincoat for every visitor. The trip on the cruise was never bored. When we set sail, staff on land pick up some large paper hand to wave and say good luck to us. They even prepared water cannon to salute to the ship. During the trip, they have arranged a guide to introduce the surrounding area and history of the whirlpool. On the upper deck, the ship got a heated room for those who feel cold and wanted to enjoy the view indoor. Others like me can walk around the ship and watch the beautiful scene and amazing waves under the bridge. The tide under the bridge was the cause of those whirlpool. Although it is an amazing view, it is also hard to observe a significant whirlpool like what they have showed in video. Nevertheless the whole trip is very enjoyable and it is a must go activities if you visit Awaji Island.

We followed a day trip with the local travel agency. I'm not sure about the entry fee. The whole trip takes about an hour +, and the cruise guide converse in Japanese. There is no translation or information on board about the whirls pool. You get to see the whirling pools up really close, and the ship will turn around for each side of the passengers to see it. Such a phenomenon cause by 2 different currents, so whirlpools occur. There is queue for public and separate fees to pay for adults and children. There are many timings for cruise ship in a day. There is a small museum about the wildlife, video and photos in basement level inside the cruiseship, same direction as going to the washrooms. Is good to bring children to see the phenomenon.

My mom and I were wearing socks so we were able to play safely and without any slippery surfaces. Jumping in was fun, and although it was hard to pull ourselves back up onto the mat, it was fun too. We promised to come again next year! The staff were always watching over us so we were able to play safely. It's easy to slip and fall into the ocean, but if you wear the special socks, you can easily navigate the equipment without slipping! Personally, I enjoyed sliding around barefoot rather than easily clearing the equipment! It's slippery, so you'll bump into various things and get bruises, but it's especially good to have short nails. Taganohama Beach is a popular spot on Awaji Island known for its beautiful sunsets and family-friendly atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy picnics on the fluffy lawn, free swimming in the calm and shallow waters, and stunning views of the sunset. The beach offers amenities such as a large parking lot, vending machines, and restrooms. While some mentioned cleanliness issues with the restrooms, overall it's considered a great place for beach activities and camping.
Loved the place to rest enroute awaichi course. Large patches of grass...to sit and relax. Vending machines near by. I went around sea day, many people, families, children were enjoying the beach and waters. Lovely place.

I went to camping here, its quite good place. You can do a lot of beach activities except water sports like jet skiing. The beach is clean and the water is little shallow, in other side the water is little bit dirty and but have deep water. It's take 500yen for parking and 1500yen for camping ground. The sun setting is beautiful here, believe me.!

(Translated by Google) I used it in mid-August. I arrived before 9am and the parking lot was empty. The charm of this beach is its shallow waters and lawns. Camping tents are not allowed, but you can set up tarp tents and sunshade tents, which are very comfortable. There isn't much space on the beach hut side, but there is even more grass on the toilet side, so there is more space. It's nice because there's no strange music and you can play quietly amidst the sound of waves. The water was shallow, so no one was doing anything violent, so it was comfortable. It was nice to take a nap on the grass. As expected from Awaji Island, there are lots of fish and hermit crabs, and it's fun just to look through them with underwater glasses. However, there are Gonzuis, so be careful not to touch them. I also saw Gonzuidama, so I think it's a good idea to teach your children about it. The people at the beach house were also very bright and nice. However, I didn't see any lifeguards, so I felt like I needed to take care of myself. The shower room is on the right after entering the toilet. Considering it's free, it's sturdy and you can change clothes. However, there are no drainboards, so be careful where you step. The outside shower is located on the beach house side. You can leave your luggage at the beach house, so you can use it if necessary. This is a recommended coast. Hompukuji Water Temple is a fascinating and peaceful place of worship with a unique design that blends in well with nature. The temple itself is located under a man-made pool, creating an interesting visual effect. Tadao Ando's architecture draws visitors to this circular structure where photography is only allowed outside and there is a fee for entry. While the temple may not offer any surprises beyond its design, it serves as an ideal escape from the rush of the world and provides ample parking for visitors.
Small, but Tadao Ando fans will love it anyway. It's beautiful and serene. Go early to have the whole space to yourself. Admission into the prayer space (a cute granny takes care of it) costs 400yen. Photography not allowed within the prayer space.

Our bus tour travelled to the Buddhist Honpukuji water temple on Awaji island. You climb up a bit of a slope to enter through a beautiful Japanese cemetery, where an older lady was diligently cleaning and tidying it up. The reflection pool with its gorgeous floating lotus plants was next, which are the symbol of the Buddha. The stairs are in the center and lead down deep into the shrine below. Down the steep stairs is the water temple and no pictures are allowed inside. You have to take your shoes off to enter, which is traditional in Japan. There are multiple relics behind metal gates, including the Yakushi Nyorai, the Buddha of medicine and healing. There and benches to sit and reflect or take in the temples sights. A very peaceful and relaxing place to visit and a lovely experience.

Prepare your emotions, animal enthusiasts, for a visit to Nojima Zoo on Awaji Islands. This delightful zoo showcases an array of charming creatures such as alpacas, sheep, and guinea pigs. (Translated by Google) New Review Located in the northern part of Awaji Island, Nojima Zoo is an extremely small zoo located within the grounds of Nojima Scuola, a complex renovated from the former Nojima Elementary School. Due to its size, it's more accurately described as a "contact zoo" than a typical large-scale zoo. Accessible via Sunset Road from Awaji IC or Kita-Awaji IC, it's a convenient stop for a drive. Admission is by purchasing animal food (starting at ¥300), which can be interpreted as a kind of donation that goes toward animal care costs. However, as some visitors have pointed out, I personally found the balance between the amount of food and the price somewhat questionable. Considering the contents of the "vegetable set," in particular, I felt it wasn't very cost-effective. However, its compact size clearly offers the advantage of allowing visitors to get up close and personal with the animals, providing a truly intimate experience. The zoo is primarily home to small animals such as alpacas, goats, ponies, mini pigs, and guinea pigs. The charming alpaca, "Raal," provides visitors with a sense of calm and tranquility. The unique "sky walk" exhibit, in which goats walk on overhead bridges, demonstrates the zoo's ingenious approach to utilizing the limited space within the zoo. During our visit, we also noted some concerns about the careful attention being paid to the animals' living conditions. We hope that the zookeepers will take greater care and improve the environment, especially during hotter months, by ensuring that animals are not exposed to excessive heat and that they have an adequate supply of water. Overall, this facility is best viewed as an "additional activity" to enjoy alongside meals and rest at Nojima Scuola, rather than as a primary destination. It's suitable for those seeking a short, heartwarming interaction with animals or for families with small children, but may be disappointing for those looking for a full-fledged zoo experience. The fact that visitors are allowed to enter the park with their pet dogs is a welcome service for dog lovers.

Awaji Yumebutai is a massive complex that includes a conference center, hotel, and memorial to the 1995 earthquake victims. Designed by Tadao Ando, it sits on the site where land was excavated for Kansai International Airport. The area features stunning gardens and buildings that celebrate water and light, as well as Japan's largest greenhouse. Visitors can admire the fantastic landscape and appreciate the architectural inspiration from Ando Tadao.
Awaji Yumebutai is a truly unique and peaceful place. The stunning architecture and beautifully landscaped gardens blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings, creating a calming atmosphere. Walking around the site, you can’t help but feel inspired by the design and the views of the surrounding landscape. The contrast of modern structures against the lush greenery is striking, and it’s a perfect spot for a quiet stroll or to simply take in the beauty of the area

Fascinating architecture by one of the greatest contemporary architects. Don't miss the greenhouse! It's a miracle in fine gardening. Also nice for kids, there are plenty of beautiful little spaces for them. The other buildings show signs of aging, but that doesn't diminish the perfect blend of landscape gardening and modern architecture on a rehabilitated piece of land.

Worth the trip. The indoor garden is inspiring and the outdoor structure is equally impressive. Heavy use of concrete to form artistic courtyard and fountain and stairs and viewing platform. Even though the weather was humid and hot, we managed.

A rather large but well-maintained complex, great for a stroll if the weather is ideal. Admission to the greenhouse costs 750 yen so we skipped that, but the step terrace (there is a lift) is adorned with beautiful flowers. I'm not an architecture buff but I thought overall this was a meaningful project by Tadao Ando - the land where this complex stands was originally a wasteland, due to the soil excavation needed to fill the artificial island where Kansai airport is built on.
