Gardens
Roses Park in Timisoara is a serene and picturesque park renowned for its vibrant rose gardens, hosting various outdoor concerts, festivals, and events. The park's history dates back to the 1891 Universal Exposition and has undergone several transformations. With over 6000 rose bushes, it boasts one of the largest rose collections in Europe.
A beautiful park spread across more than 6 acres of land on the shore of the Began canal. The park has been an important landmark of the city since its opening in 1819. After being destroyed during the war, the park has been renovated several times, with new roses and new canopies and seating areas being added each time. Throughout the year the park is host for several cultural events while the roses bloom during spring and summer, providing an exceptional view and scent.
Liviu-Cristian M — Google review
Beautiful park. Right next to the river. Roses did not flurish yet, when we visited, but still was very nice. Must see place in Temisoara in my opinion.
Bojana A — Google review
The park is big and was transformed into a huge space for the festival this week 😍 I am so glad we got to experience this beautiful cultural and diverse experience during our 5-day stay in Timişoara 🥰 There were people from all ages, families, and lots of talented artists 🤩 There were also food trucks lined up on the street before going in the park so I am super happy I got to eat more Romanian food too 🥹 The park is clean, well maintained and very relaxing for walks or runs or spending time alone or either family/friends. I highly recommend to visit it and wander around 😊
Elia N — Google review
We visited in early April, which was too early for roses to bloom (but other flowers were in full bloom all across the city). Still, it was obvious that this was well designed park and popular place. The park is located just minutes from the city center, on the beautiful bank of the Bega river. Also, the street leading to the park has beautiful trees which were on full bloom when we visited.
Marija R — Google review
This was one of my favourite mud holes in Romania. Personally, I’m glad they cleared away all the roses because they were likely ruining the view of all the mud. I appreciate Timisoara is known as a garden city but I’d gladly support its transition to the nations favourite building site for 2026.
Lee B — Google review
Very beautiful and modern park of roses with concert hall on air. There is the children trampoline zona. Very good place for relax and cap of coffee. We were on festival of Romania and Ukrainian cultures. it was very good organized by Ukrainian union of Timisoara in Romania.
Viktoriia A — Google review
It's a small park in the city center. There are lots of roses to admire, but most are small, and very few are perfumed. When you're surrounded by roses, you'd expect rose perfume.
Andrei M — Google review
It's a cute park. My friend who lives there mentioned that there were a lot more roses in the past and now the local authorities are putting effort into rehabilitating it so that it can live up to its name again.

Victoriei Square is a popular tourist spot in Timisoara featuring stunning Baroque-era mansions, art nouveau palaces, and an impressive Orthodox cathedral surrounding a bustling cobbled plaza. Currently undergoing renovations, visitors can expect to see improvements in the near future. The area also boasts several restaurants and shops for travelers to explore. Additionally, the square is home to an opera house that should not be missed.
Wide and long square where one can enjoy sitting on the bench looking at the greenery, flowers and beautiful colored facades. Like in a fairytale during all seasons! Both for kids and people of all ages. Everything seems authentic, no shining billboards like in other European cities. I’m sure to visit it again ❤️
Mirjana M — Google review
Fascinating architecture. We were very lucky, it was drizzling and our group was the only one in the square. Impressive place!
Cheresh N — Google review
It's a posh little square. It is lined with flowers and fountains. Benches between the flower beds are lovely to sit and take a small break from walking. It seems like there will be a big event here as there are a lot of vans with heavy equipments are being set on the ground. (Today is September 24 2025)

Built in the early 20th century, Victory Square features impressive architecture from the Secession and Neo-Romanian styles. The facades of the buildings surrounding the square are richly decorated, giving it a charming, old-European atmosphere. The wide promenade through the center is filled with colorful flowers and fountains, making it a favorite place for locals and tourists to walk and relax. It is really a beautiful place.
Milica K — Google review
A really nice square really hard to miss it specially if you live somewhere in the centre. A really nice place to walk have a cup of coffee and shop. It’s it’s most too crowded around the afternoon But I wouldn’t describe it as a busy place. I visited the square in October the weather was really nice.

Short stay in Timisoara after a week long business trip, such a wonderful place to see. Great food, coffee, and historic places to see. And if you like shopping Euro mall / Iulius mall is just 5 minutes drive from victory square.

Victory Square in Timisoara is a stunning and lively central spot. The architecture surrounding the square is impressive, with beautiful historic buildings and vibrant colors. It's perfect for a leisurely stroll, people watching, or enjoying a coffee at one of the nearby caffees. The atmosphere feels both energetic and welcoming, making it a must visit when in the city.

Victory Square in Timișoara is the vibrant heart of the city, blending history with modern life. On one end stands the impressive Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral, and on the other, the Opera House and National Theatre. The wide boulevard is lined with beautiful early 20th-century buildings, cafés, and restaurants, making it an ideal spot for a stroll or a relaxing break. In spring and summer, the square comes alive with terraces and flowers, while in winter it gains a special charm with festive lights and decorations. A must-visit when exploring Timișoara.

Union Square, also known as Piata Unirii, is a stunning Baroque-era plaza located in the heart of Timisoara. The square features a central park with a fountain and is surrounded by vibrant restaurants, pubs, and cafes. What sets Union Square apart is its colorful array of beautiful buildings framing the area, along with Victorian-style street lamps and two cathedrals in different architectural styles on opposite sides.
A beautiful spacious square with garden and a fountain tentatively cared for. Surrounded by historical buildings with with facades that glow with beauty. An Orthodox Church on one and catholic on the other side. Lots of places to take great photos. Just come here and enjoy 😊

Unirii Square is the most beautiful and historic square in Timișoara. Surrounded by colorful Baroque buildings, cafés, and the impressive St. George’s Cathedral, it’s the perfect place to relax, take photos, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of the city. Especially charming at sunset!
Patrizia P — Google review
Union Square (Piața Unirii) is one of the most beautiful and historically rich places in Timișoara, Romania. Surrounded by colorful Baroque buildings, charming cafés, and cultural landmarks, it offers a perfect blend of relaxation and heritage. The square’s centerpiece, the Holy Trinity Monument, adds to its elegance, while the nearby St. George’s Cathedral impresses with its grandeur. Whether you're enjoying a coffee, taking photos, or simply walking around, the atmosphere is lively yet peaceful. It's a must-visit spot for tourists and locals alike, capturing the spirit of the city with its architecture, history, and vibrant public life.
Gábor M — Google review
Piața Unirii is the historic and cultural heart of Timișoara—a grand open space infused with baroque elegance and a surprisingly vibrant atmosphere. Flanked by two imposing cathedrals—the Roman Catholic Cathedral (built between 1736–1774, designed by Fischer von Erlach) and the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral (constructed between 1744–1748)—the square reflects the city’s multicultural soul. At its center stands the Plague Column (Holy Trinity Monument), a baroque sculpture created in Vienna in 1740 and transported to Timișoara via waterway. It commemorates the end of a devastating plague epidemic that struck the region from 1731 to 1738. Surrounding the square are representative buildings like the Baroque Palace (now the Museum of Art), the Brück House with its secession-style architecture, and several colorful, well-preserved facades such as the "Three Hussars House", creating a picturesque and harmonious urban ensemble. Spanning roughly 150 × 110 meters, the square once served as the city's main marketplace and was historically known as Losonczy Square, then Hauptplatz or Domplatz. It received its current name in 1919, commemorating the entry of Romanian troops into the city on August 3rd. Today, following elegant restorations (1988–1989, led by architect Șerban Sturdza), the square features warm stone paving, pastel-colored buildings, and a calm yet lively ambiance. It's a favorite spot for both locals and tourists to enjoy a coffee at one of the terraces, admire the architecture, or take part in open-air events and festivals. Recommended time to visit: in the evening, when the soft lighting highlights the baroque contours, creating a cinematic feel—ideal for stunning photographs.

The "Three Holy Hierarchs" Metropolitan Cathedral is a remarkable Neo-Moldavian Romanian Orthodox cathedral located in its own park on the south side of Piata Victoriei. It is a technical marvel, able to accommodate 5,000 worshippers under its nine towers. The cathedral's design was influenced by Medieval Byzantine churches of Moldavia and features a cavernous interior without columns, made possible through the use of reinforced concrete.
A breathtaking landmark in the heart of Timișoara! The "Three Holy Hierarchs" Metropolitan Cathedral is one of the most stunning architectural gems in Romania. I visited in the evening, and the lighting made the entire structure glow beautifully against the deep blue sky. The peaceful atmosphere and detailed design of the building make it a must-see, whether you're into history, photography, or just peaceful strolls. Highly recommended!
Misha S — Google review
We stopped by the Metropolitan Cathedral on a warm afternoon and were truly touched by its peaceful and majestic presence. The architecture is stunning, both inside and out, but what really took us by surprise was the Cathedral Museum located in the basement. It’s a must-visit – featuring an impressive collection of religious icons on wood, glass, and canvas, beautifully embroidered and sculpted sacred objects, as well as a remarkable selection of old religious books. It adds so much depth to the experience and gives visitors a real appreciation for the spiritual and artistic heritage of the area. Truly a serene and enriching place.

A historical cathedral that enchanted my heart and became a must stop on my short stay 🩵 The cathedral has a different charm at night, majestic and magical with its lights. It has another charm during the day with the sun moving around it. Always radiating with beauty 🙌🏻 We were lucky enough to be there also for the festival parade on 2nd July 🥰

Old city of Timisoara, Romania, first class experience. Nice interesting old buildings reconstructed, clean streets. Everything is in a walking distance, you do not need taxis. Lots of cafes and restaurants not expensive that depends, sorry. We at at traditional Romanian restaurant which Offer Romanian cuisine, very tasty and for 2 big portion it was AUS$ 47. Again Australian $ is very low about 1€=2aus $. We travelled by car and pared it in city centr. We bought SIM card just for a day.

This is the simbol of Timișoara, the beautiful orthodox cathedral. A place that we all love and cherish. Anyways, we cannot, and should not forget that on December 1989 the clergy closed and locked the main doors and the people of Timisoara, were massacred on the stairs of the church!
Rasputin — Google review
The Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral in Timișoara is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks and a true architectural masterpiece. Its imposing Neo-Romanian design, adorned with distinctive mosaics and stained-glass windows, dominates the main boulevard. The interior radiates warmth and spiritual peace, decorated with beautiful icons and frescoes. The cathedral also holds great historical significance, especially during the events of 1989, making it a place of silent tribute. A visit here leaves a lasting impression and offers a glimpse into Romania’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
Ivana I — Google review
Cathedral of the Three Holy Hierarchs made me truly speechless. From the moment I spotted its soaring towers and colourful glazed-roofs, I knew I had entered a place where history, faith and art come together in one magnificent experience. For any traveller to Timişoara, this cathedral isn’t just a landmark to photograph — it’s an experience to feel. I left with a sense of having touched something much greater than just beautiful architecture: a living piece of heritage and heart of the city. You must go there. PLUS - in general Timisoara city is beaitiful and worth visiting - the city center is amazing full of interesting places. Timișoara is a masterpiece, multicultural city with a rich architectural heritage and a forward-looking spirit so if you will have time just go there.

Located in Timisoara, Liberty Square is a historic public square surrounded by stunning 19th and early 20th-century buildings of various architectural styles. Originally a major marketplace, the square has witnessed significant events in Romanian and world history. It was the site of a crucial battle during the Hungarian Revolution in 1849. The area houses several buildings with military functions, including the Garrison Command and the Old Town Hall. Visitors can also admire the Monument of St. Mary and St.
Very nice place. I am just sorry that it was cold. I hope that I will be able to go when in summer.
Ivica M — Google review
Liberty Square is one of the most beautiful and historic spots in Timișoara. As the second-oldest square in the former fortress, it offers a glimpse into the city’s rich past. Surrounded by stunning architecture like the Garrison Command, the Old City Hall, and the impressive Military Casino — which still preserves elements of its original Baroque facade with Rococo touches — the square is a perfect place for a quiet walk or to admire classicist buildings from the 1900s. It’s also an ideal location for large-scale events and performances. However, during heatwaves, the lack of trees and shaded areas can make it uncomfortable, as there’s little refuge from the strong sun.
DAN C — Google review
Liberty Square in Timișoara is the city’s historical and cultural hub, a place where past and present come together. This square exudes an atmosphere of freedom and change, featuring monuments that commemorate important historical events. Surrounded by significant buildings and green spaces, it is a pleasant spot for walking and gathering. Throughout the year, the square hosts numerous events and festivals, adding to its vibrancy and importance for the local community.

Beautiful square with an interesting history 😍 The light bulbs at night are lit and the square becomes a magical place to walk, rest and listen to music 🥰 They were also preparing the square for the jazz festival but I could not be there as I was travelling back the same day it started 🥲 There nice restaurants and bar around so it is well animated and alive during the day and at night 😊

Museums
The Timișoara Art Museum is located in an elegant Baroque palace, showcasing a diverse collection of classic and contemporary artwork. The museum features a notable collection of 20th-century works by portraitist Corneliu Baba, including self-portraits, landscapes from Spain and Venice, and portraits of cultural figures like composer George Enescu. The museum's departments also house decorative arts, European art, and historic paintings from the Banat region.
A huge and beautiful museum to visit as long as you have time to spend! We visited for around one hour and a half and we were not able to finish all the rooms and expositions in the museum (we still had one of the 6 big parts). There are lockers for you to safe keep your bags so that your visit is light. We were lucky that the museum started the summer opening hours and they close at 9pm so we had the chance to take our time as we arrived at 5pm 😊 I really appreciated the underground wine section, I will let you discover it I won’t say a word 🤭 There are beautiful paintings and artists I got to discover and they were inspiring ♥️ Happy visit!
Elia N — Google review
The museum is a beautiful building located in the main square. It was well-maintained and had air conditioning throughout. The paintings were diverse and covered a wide range of art styles. The museum often hosts exhibitions by famous Romanian artists. However, the information about the navigation and the exhibits wasn't very clear, so I got a bit lost trying to follow the themes and timelines. I visited the museum alone that day. The middle-aged man at the ticket booth behaved inappropriately. He was flirting with me and making me uncomfortable. He even offered to sell me a discounted ticket and be my personal guide, as well as having a glass later on. It was disappointing to see someone like him representing such a nice place. The staff seemed to have trouble speaking English. When I tried to ask questions about the paintings, they just pointed me back to that ticket booth.

The Timișoara Art Museum was a really pleasant surprise. The rooms are beautiful, and the exhibitions are interesting and well displayed. The museum is larger than it first seems, so it actually took us a while to go through everything — but it was absolutely worth it. A very enjoyable visit!

I went to the Timișoara Art Museum today and it was definitely better than I expected. I really liked all the paintings and sculptures on display. When I arrived there was no line and if you're a student, it's only 8 lei.

A very interesting museum with original scents "exhibition" and sceny testing in the basement. A genuine view on the sty conservatory work on the upper level. There was a live piano music in the modern art section when i entered it❤️ very well prepared and friendly stuff. Highly reccomend.
Marta H — Google review
The paintings and art are mostly classical and vary from impressionism to still life and realistic portraits... although, to be fair, the art contains only the titles and their painter/sculptor. They could be more elaborate on the origins or the way the painter painted his feelings and or story. Besides the art, the security is not great, they want to see your card then send you somewhere else because you are not permitted to enter a certain area and later they say that you can visit that area, it is just a lack of communication and consistency. Overall experience was okay, improvements could make this place awesome 👌

Maria Theresia Bastion, named after the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa, is a significant piece of the defensive wall from the 18th-century Austrian-Hungarian fortress in Timisoara. This bastion was part of a larger defensive structure built over 300 years ago to counter advancements in military technology. It used to be the largest military fortification in Romania until its walls were demolished due to urban development. Today, it covers about 1.
Beautifully reconditioned and re-purposed 18 century fortifications. The place does, however, need a lot of work in terms of promoting it. Amazingly helpful and friendly staff at the Info booth.

We came across the Maria Theresia Bastion while exploring the old part of the city and ended up spending more time there than we expected! It’s a fascinating blend of history and modern culture – the ancient walls house exhibitions, shops, and cozy little cafes that bring the place to life. There’s a certain charm about walking through its passages and imagining what it must have been like centuries ago. It's also a great spot for photos and occasional events, which add to its cultural appeal. A hidden gem in the heart of the city.

Last remaining bastion of the 18th century fortification. Well preserved, but it could have been used in a much better way.

Peaceful and lots of history

The Bastion used to be part of the old Citadel, being an arrow-shaped space in the North. These walls were all that remains from what surrounded the city in the 19th century as they were taken down under Austro-Hungarian Empire. Right now there is a museum in renovation (hope to see it in 2021) and a delicious restaurant and flowers everywhere.

The Banat Village Museum, also known as the National Village Museum 'Dimitrie Gusti,' is a captivating open-air museum located in Muntenia, Romania. Established in 1936 by folklorists and sociologist Dimitrie Gusti, this expansive museum spans 30 hectares and features over 70 traditional households from various provinces across the country. Visitors can explore authentic homes, a school, a church, and traditional tools such as water mills and oil presses.
The whole museum is surrounded by big trees that make nice shade, so you can visit even on hotter days. Everything is clean, and there are signs in English and even an audio guide in front of every house. Even though not every house is open, I still recommend visiting this place, taking a stroll around, or even making a little picnic on a bench.

The place is amazing and very welcoming! I definitely recommend visiting it during the warmer seasons, you will be able to see the true colors and details without being cold. You can turn up the light in most rooms and houses. The location is a huge park where you can also have a stroll and a snack on the bench. Parking available on the street, low entrance fee and usually no queue. Definitely recommend!

Large museum in the open space with lot of trees, almost in a forest, in the outscirts of Tamisoara. There are a lot of houses brought from all around Banat. It is easy to see and imagine how people lived in 18th, 19th and 20th century. And how much the qualty of living have been improved until today.

Muzeul Consumatorului Comunist, also known as the Communist Consumer Museum, is a fascinating attraction in Timisoara. Housed in an old building's basement within a vintage bar, this museum showcases a diverse array of items and products that were available to consumers during Romania's Communist era. The collection includes household appliances, electronics, toys, clothing, and food items from that time period. Visitors can explore rooms set up to resemble different areas of a typical apartment from the communist era.
Tucked away in a side street, this charming place is actually a bar/pub, where you can grab a beer or a snack. The museum is a private collection of memorabilia from the communist era. The entrance is free, but a donation is appreciated. Staff is welcoming and speaks english.

Lovely place which displays exhibits from the communist era, from antiques to relics. It's small, cozy and has just a few rooms. The museum is right in the basement and access is totally free.
Alejandro — Google review
If you're a child of RSR, this place will take you on a trip down memory lane. You'll find the Turda glassware (the glass fish on everyone's TV), toys that only lasted a day not because they weren't sturdy but because most children would take apart. And many more communist era memorabilia. If you're a history buff, go see it. The entrance is a donation (I encourage you to donate so the museum will expand). The bartender/host is a nice young man that styled himself as "Dracula" There is so much stuff that would look much nicer if it was better organized. Definitely worth a visit.

This is not a museum but rather a very cool themed bar. The basement is the "museum" part where you can look at various items from the communist era while sipping a beer. Very chill place.

One of the best beer bars in town! I wasn't hungry but there's food also. Trendy hipster hangout.

It’s a really nice museum that gives you a look of the past. It’s interesting place that shows how people used to live. You can find a lot of items of the past separated in rooms. The entrance is free, but you can leave a donation. There is also place there for you to see and have a coffee. It’s a nice quiet neighbourhood. I recommend having this quick stop to your journey.

Many memories from our comunist past. My beautiful childhood❤️ Special collection. Don’t miss it when in Timisoara! No fee entry. Relaxing garden with many beer options. Visited May 2024

A very interesting, full-of-memories museum out of the communist life! A 2 rooms apartment (dining room, kids room, kitchen, hallway), with plenty of memorabilia, old traditions and typical decorations. The staff is very nice and they tell you a bit about the place, how it was founded and what they do there. There is also a bar, if you want to chill inside or on the terrace:) P.S. To visit the museum you don’t have to pay an entrance fee but you can make a donation (if you want).

Ion Creangă Children's Park is a sprawling riverside park in Timisoara, Romania, offering shady paths and play areas such as a sand pit and a replica fairy castle. It has always been a great space for families with children, but now it's even more fun with no admission cost and various opportunities for entertainment at a small fee. This park is an ideal place for leisurely strolls with your partner or family along the Bega riverbank.

An entire park full of playgrounds and equipment for children is a dream! Along the Belga River, there are little huts, slides, swings, rope courses, and more for kids. Some of the equipment is closed like the blue slide in the corner and some of it is rundown, but my six-year-old daughter still had a great time! In the middle there’s a woman who lets kids rent small bikes for kids. We paid 10 lei for 20 minutes, which was enough for my daughter. There are also free public restrooms that are well-maintained!

It's big, free, in the middle of the city ... It could be a bit more interesting, more entertaining but I like to go with the kids here anyway (and they also like it).

Cathedral
Saint George’s Cathedral, also known as the Roman Catholic Dome, is a stunning 18th-century landmark in Timisoara. This Baroque architectural gem was commissioned by the Holy Roman Emperor and features ornate Rococo elements created by artists from Vienna. The cathedral hosts frequent organ concerts due to its excellent acoustics and is one of the most valuable buildings of its kind in the region. Visitors can admire its luxurious interior and attend liturgies held in Hungarian, German, and Romanian.
In renovation for the past many, many years, the cathedral is finally open to the public again. Both the interior and the exterior have been beautifully renovated. Visiting is free and the art inside is quite impressive. The organ is played on a regular basis as well and sounds fantastic.

The St. George Cathedral, colloquially known as the Roman Catholic Dome, is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Timișoara and one of the city's landmarks. The cathedral is dedicated to St. George and was built between 1736 and 1774. After the Cathedral Basilica of Oradea, it is the second largest Baroque religious building in Southeastern Europe. Liturgies in Hungarian, German and Romanian are currently held regularly in the cathedral. Due to the remarkable acoustics, organ concerts are also held here.

Visitors can also explore the military exposition, Popa's museum with caricature drawings, Banat Village Museum, and the Art Museum with a unique ticket.

The building is awesome and has so much potential, sadly the art exhibitions are neither well described nor interesting. The story is missing, i have no idea what i am looking at. only the medieval weapon exhibition is kinda interesting. it is called national museum of banat, but i never got the feeling that i would learn anything connected to banat at all sadly

We visited the National Museum of Banat on a Friday morning, and it turned out to be a real highlight of our day out. The museum offers a wide range of exhibitions, from archaeology to natural history and local culture. There are also creative workshops for children and guided tours that make the experience much more interactive. We especially appreciated how well-organized everything was, and the staff were extremely helpful and passionate about their work. It’s a fantastic way to understand the history of this fascinating region. Definitely worth setting aside a few hours for!

The National Museum of Banat is currently housed in a temporary location, since the original home, Huniade Castle, is under renovation. Unfortunately, the new space isn’t very generous, and the exhibitions felt quite short and not particularly engaging. The staff seemed rather uninterested, they didn’t really interact or answer questions, which was a bit disappointing. The history of the city itself is fascinating, but it’s a shame it isn’t presented in a more captivating way.
Anda M — Google review
Very rude man, who took our money for entrance. Not only was he gone getting food and leaving the museum open, but scolded us for not understanding the difference of prices for entrance. Very small exhibition and didn’t feel it was worth the effort and time. If a museum is going to have a person in charge of a tourist attraction, you might want to get someone, who enjoys people!!

The actual museum is undergoing renovation work, which is why parts of the exhibition are in the Bastion. Staff was not very helpful, English was basically non-existent. The Bastion shows the work of a caricaturist and some arms&weapons - there was nobody to sell tickets at the part with the arms&weapons though. I would recommend to wait until the actual museum is open again.

Botanic Park, a 9-hectare green oasis in the heart of the city, offers tranquil walking paths and benches surrounded by diverse trees and flowers. With over 1600 plant species, this park is a delight for nature enthusiasts. The well-maintained trails provide a perfect escape from the city's hustle and bustle, offering visitors a serene environment to walk, run or simply relax. In addition to its natural beauty during the day, the park is also beautifully lit at night.
I spent a peaceful afternoon at Botanic Park in Timișoara, and it honestly felt like stepping into a quiet, green retreat right in the heart of the city. The moment I entered, I was struck by the calm—birds chirping, trees swaying gently, and people strolling or lounging on benches with books. I started off wandering the main paths, and quickly found myself pulled toward the Japanese garden. It’s small but really charming, with arched bridges and neatly trimmed shrubs. There was even a couple taking engagement photos there, which added to the dream-like vibe. I sat nearby for a bit, just soaking it all in. After that, I explored the different thematic sections. The medicinal plants area was especially cool—each one was labeled, so I learned a bit while walking around. I also found the rose garden, although in early spring it wasn’t in full bloom yet, you could still catch hints of color and fragrance. One of my favorite things was just walking under the tall trees along the shaded trails. It’s super quiet, with lots of tucked-away benches, perfect for people-watching or journaling. I even spotted a hedgehog scuttling into a bush—no lie! While a few corners could’ve used some upkeep, overall, it felt really well-loved. If you're in Timișoara and want to escape the rush without leaving the city, this place is a gem. Bring a book or a camera—you’ll want to linger.

The Revolution Memorial Association, also known as Memorialul Revolutiei, is a museum and memorial in Timisoara, Romania dedicated to the events of the 1989 revolution that led to the end of the country's communist regime. The museum offers several exhibitions covering both national and international aspects of the December 1989 events through a collection of photos, films, and stories. Visitors can explore artifacts and interactive exhibits that provide insight into this pivotal moment in Romanian history.
A very interesting and comprehensive repository of experiences, historical context, and art installations that teach you about the Romanian Revolution and at the same time can inspire the person visiting. Has a bit of everything: immersive, documented, visual displays, and what makes it incredible truly is how detailed it is at narrating where Romania was and where it went. 100% recommend!

Олег П — Google review
As a Hungarian, I very highly recommend visiting this place! Whether you were already alive to watch the Revolution on TV or not, this place reminds of what the communist block, and especially Romania was like, and how the people rose up against oppression. Great detail is devoted to all topics before and during the Revolution, both in English and in Romanian. The exhibit is not very interactive, but gives unparalleled insight into a major historical milestone in Eastern Europe. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of lessons to be learned about today's politics. Overall, a very impactful and meaningful exhibition, highly recommended! Without watching the documentary, we spent almost 2 hours walking around here, and I even went back to buy a photo ticket. Oh also the guy at the entrance was really welcoming and helpful, and spoke excellent English! (I'm not sure why I keep highlighting this, we never had any language trouble in Romania during our visit. ;) )

I didn't know what to expect from the museum and it was really hard to find as well (the entrance can be reached from Strada Paul Chinezu) but once I got in and got to meet Michael, who was working there, he really made my visit worthwile. He was very knowledgeable and willing to show me the museum around and answer all my questions. His positive attitide had a positivr effect on my visit. The museum can be done quite quickly but there is also extensive amount of text and info also in English for those interested to dive in the subject. It was cool to see actual items donated from that time and I learned so much about Romanian history and the revolution.

Had the chance to explore the memorial and was genuinely impressed. Got a warm welcome from a super friendly staff member who explained everything clearly in great English. You can tell the team has put amazing work into setting up the place, it’s thoughtful, moving, and informative. It’s a bit tricky to find, tucked away through a strange little path, but definitely worth the effort once you’re there. A meaningful visit.
Amanjot G — Google review
I really enjoyed my visit. It’s a great reminder of what people have had to do to gain freedom, as well as the absurdity of autocracy. They have a mix of informational panels (sometimes heavy on detail), art pieces/installations, and photographs. One of the highlights for me was the photograph collection upstairs. They look like us. And kudos to the guy at the front. He put up with my 20 minutes of questions and, being a historian, he had great answers.
George O — Google review

The Brück House is a historic house in Timișoara's Union Square. It was designed by László Székely and Arnold Merbl in the Secession style and resembles a thin slice of cake. Initially, there was a pharmacy on the site of the building since 1898 and it was called Golden Cross, belonging to the Geml family (or the Zifkovich family according to other sources). It was refurbished and used in the following years by pharmacist Salamon Brück. The pharmacy still works today and much of the original furniture and display cases are still in use. The building, which was originally built in the Viennese Baroque style, was later rebuilt in the Secession style at Brück's request. The reconstruction began in 1910 according to the plans of the chief architect of Timișoara at the time, László Székely, and was completed a year later. He collaborated with the architect Arnold Merbl, who, in order to supervise the works, built a wooden shack in the area where he lived until their completion. Falling into disrepair after 1989, the house was renovated in 2012 by an Italian businessman who bought an apartment in the building in 1999.

Built in 1957, this iconic fountain is situated in Victory Square (Piața Victoriei), surrounded by some of the city's most impressive architecture, including the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Opera House. The fountain itself is modest in size but rich in symbolism. Its central element—stylized bronze fish emerging from the water—offers a gentle, calming presence amid the bustle of the city. The fountain is especially beautiful in the evening, when it is illuminated and the surrounding flowers and benches create a perfect atmosphere for relaxation. Locals and tourists alike often stop here to rest, take photos, or simply enjoy the sound of flowing water. In the heart of Timisoara's Liberty Square stands the Holy Trinity Statue, surrounded by a rich tapestry of historical and cultural landmarks. The square is home to the imposing Old City Hall, which replaced a Turkish Bath in the 18th century, as well as the iconic Saint Mary Statue and the poignant Plague Statue, honoring those lost to the 1738 plague.
This is a review of the historical fountain situated near the statue. CONTEXT During the Austrian-Ottoman war, Eugeniu de Savoya conquered Timişoara in 1716. The city started its evolution from a fortress to an economical and industrial nexus, recording an unprecedented growth in population. The city’s new administration became increasingly preoccupied with the construction of a water sanitation system. The pest epidemics and cholera outbreaks during the 18th century greatly contributed to this decision. In 1732 a hydraulic machinery was built in Fabric district, and was upgraded to a water tower in 1774. Representing a technical masterpiece of the times, this water tower was featured on the city’s first coat-of-arms. From this tower, the water was distributed to the city through a system of wooden conduits which supplied the water to a network of drinking fountains. One such fountain was erected in Unirii Square around 1780. During the siege of 1849 the tower and the water distribution system suffered a high degree of damage, and access to clean water became a big problem. In parallel with trying to find a solution for a new water distribution system, the administration ordered the drilling of fountains in strategical parts of the city. FACTS In 1890 the administration commissioned the drilling of a fountain in Unirii Square to Iulius Seidl from Vrsac, drilling expert. After four years of drilling to a depth of 406 m, in 1894 the fountain was finally ready. The authorities deemed the water “undrinkable”, due to its high temperature and high content of iron and other minerals. Nevertheless, the fountain quickly became a favorite of the people of Timisoara, who believed the water had many medicinal properties, especially in treating heartburn disease. In 1986, a new fountain was drilled at approximately the same location. The depth was 206 m and the water source was a different one. In 2004, due to the decay of the equipment, another fountain was drilled at the same depth. This is the existent fountain; the mineral content is still high, although not as high as the predecessor’s. In 2015, the exterior of the fountain was renovated as we see it today, as part of the renovation process of the whole Unirii Square. A stunning and historic monument in the heart of Timișoara’s Union Square. The Holy Trinity Statue stands as a powerful symbol of faith and resilience, beautifully crafted with impressive detail. Surrounded by charming architecture and colorful buildings, it makes for a perfect photo stop and a great place to pause and admire the city’s rich history.

The whole square is very nice, and it's totally worth visiting during your stay in Timisoara. If you want to sit for a coffee or grab something to eat, you are on the right place as there are many restaurants in this area.

one of the best places in the city, great historical place, a lot to historical buildings including the art museum. also if you want to have a drink , this is the right place the only downside are the trash cans, or the lack of them and as a good citizen you have to walk a good amount of time until you can find one

This is a beautiful spot that gives you a 360 view of the main square. There are a lot of cafe's and shops around the square as well. It is just a short walk to art museums, churches, and other points of interest.

The Old Town of Timișoara, or Centru Timișoara as the locals call it, is a captivating area that lies along the picturesque Bega Canal. This vibrant city center is home to an array of stunning landmarks and attractions, showcasing exquisite Baroque, Art Nouveau, and Secessionist architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries when Timișoara was under Habsburg rule.
Beautiful old town, through the christmas season we found many shops with traditional food and most of the accepted even credit card. At the new years eve the lights were on, the band played everything was magical

The old part of Timisoara is also the most beautiful part of the city with all the sights. Beautiful for a walk with plenty of cafes and restaurants where you can rest. You can walk around the entire city center in a couple of hours with breaks. It is recommended to come in spring or summer.

Probably the most iconic place in Romania’s post communist history, the Victory Square is where people of Timisoara gathered by thousands starting December 17,1989. Declared the first place free of communism in Romania. The Opera House balcony had a pivotal role in gathering the crowds and make them move towards the anti-Ceaușescu uprising. A place where many died shot by the Army and security forces. It is a sacred place of worship and commemoration every December, for the last 35 years.

Timișoara city center, or “Centrum,” is a lively blend of historic charm and modern flair. The area is filled with stunning architecture, including Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings, and it features several key squares like Piața Victoriei and Piața Unirii. It’s a hub for shopping, dining, and cultural activities, with plenty of cafes, restaurants, and boutiques lining the streets. The atmosphere is vibrant, especially in the evenings, making it a great place for a stroll or to soak in the city’s unique vibe. A visit to Timișoara’s centrum is a must to experience the heart of this beautiful city.

The Dicasterial Palace, situated in Timisoara, is a grand federal court building that boasts impressive Italian Renaissance-style architecture. Constructed between 1738 and 1745, this iconic structure stands proudly at the corner of Unirii Square. It served as the residence of Banat's Ministerial Council, governing the city until 1918. As one of the few remaining Baroque-style buildings from its era, it holds significant historical and architectural value in the city.

The Castle of Huniade, located in Timisoara, is a museum set within a historic 15th-century castle. Visitors can explore natural history and science exhibits while immersing themselves in the rich heritage of the region. The city itself boasts stunning parks and significant landmarks such as the Timisoara Orthodox Cathedral and the Baroque-style Palace of Justice. With a typical continental climate, Timisoara experiences hot summers and cold winters, making it an intriguing destination for all seasons.
To be honest, it was nothing to watch there on 29.06.2023. Some small modern exposition inside (5-7 minutes to spend) and almost all building covered with tents outside due to repair works.
Elena K — Google review
The Huniade Castle (Castelul Huniade) is an early 14th century Romantic and Neo-Gothic castle located in the city of Timisoara. The building is considered a Romanian Historical Monument and is documented as the oldest standing structure in the city. The Huniade Castle has served as the living headquarters for some of the greatest kings in the region. The historical castle has been ravaged repeatedly by natural disasters, wars, and various uprisings. Despite the numerous devastations it endured, one thing always remained consistent, the Huniade Castle always went on to be rebuilt. Since 1948 the castle has been used to host the National Museum of Banat. The museum includes departments for archaeology, ethnography, history, and natural sciences. It also contains the largest collection of archaeological objects of Banat. Today, due to ongoing renovations at the Huniade Castle, the museum has been relocated inside the city’s Maria Theresia Bastion.
Abdulkarim A — Google review
It's closed and looks really damaged. They might restore it in the future but right now you cannot visit it.
Adrian M — Google review
Apparently the castle has been under renovation for longer than it took to build There is only one exhibition involving the Prehistoric eras and associated jewelry. Unfortunately, if you happen to speak only Romanian, then you are ducked, as they only have descriptionsnin English, French and German.
Serban G — Google review
Closed for restoration process with no deadline. Empty inside as told by a guard, whatever items were found were moved to the art museum or bastion. Too bad as it was nice to see and a nice attraction.
Gabriela S — Google review
I was really eager to see this castle, having in mind that is one of the oldest structures in the city(if not the oldest even) you would expect it to be one of the biggest tourist attractions in the city, well mentained and clean, to be able to visit it, but the state of neglect in which it is the dirt and garbage around it, made me sad. If somebody from the local government is reading this, you should be ashamed. The building itself is beautiful and deserves more.Above all, the city of Timisoara is supposed to be the European capital of culture in 2021. Is this what you are going to offer?!
Trucic89 — Google review
This is one of the oldest buildings from Timisoara, but is under renovation since 12 years!!! The castle host the History Museum, but unfortunately I am not sure it could be visited in 2021 when Timisoara will be Cultural Capital of Europe. This frustrating situation, to renovate it for more then a dozen years without a clear deadline, is representative for the way of making public works in Romania.
C T — Google review
Sad,sad,sad...Nothing to see,currently...The castle it is closed since way long ago, structural reinforcement needed...Untill all the issues are solved, you can't see any of the museum's collections, most of them dating in the time when the city was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. From time to time, thou, small collections are exhibited in the Theresia Bastion. When I was a kid this was my favorite place to hangout, a lot of rooms filled with exhibitions.Very nice times ,indeed!

It's surrounded by impressive baroque buildings, including the Princely Palace which now houses the National Opera House. Despite its beauty, some of the old buildings are in disrepair and have not been invested in since 1990. However, there is hope for restoration as it becomes a gathering place for the young alternative community.

The Statue of Saint Mary, located in Timisoara, Romania's Victoria Square, is a significant symbol of the city. This majestic bronze statue portrays Mary and baby Jesus with angels on each side. It was erected to commemorate those lost in the plague epidemic that struck the city and reflects scenes from that period at its base. Originally sculpted in 1740 in Vienna, it was later moved to Liberty Square where it stands today.

Sadly, we left disappointed with Energy Kids Family Center. The photos online make it look fun, but even my six-year-old daughter commented, "That wasn't very fun." It's around $8 USD for one hour in the play area and trampoline bit. The trampoline area has many trampolines, a ball pit, and a rock climbing wall. That was my daughter's favorite. The play area is small and a little rundown. It kept my daughter's attention for only a few minutes. None of the other kids were playing in it either. On the lower level is a cafe for caregivers with TV monitors of the play area. There's an arcade and a kid-sized bathroom.
Austin G — Google review
This playground was a disappointing experience. It's on the smaller side, lacking in engaging equipment, and offers little stimulation for young adventurers. Worse yet, the staff seemed to inhibit play rather than encourage it, regularly confiscating toys and instructing children to tidy up. The older women in charge came off as quite harsh and unsympathetic. Additionally, they charge an extra fee for the trampoline, an unexpected cost that I've never encountered elsewhere. Definitely won't be returning.
