The Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site in Laramie is a captivating destination for history enthusiasts and families alike. This restored 1872 prison once held the infamous outlaw Butch Cassidy for 18 months, offering visitors a glimpse into its intriguing past through self-guided and guided tours.
An excellent slice of history has been preserved and renovated to showcase its authenticity. Being presented a "prisoner" at admission added an element of curiosity to the process. The museum has a lot of great information and throughout our 3000 mile trip, we kept learning more about Butch Cassidy but this was the most information in one place (we decided he was an intelligent & charismatic man who was never going to settle down - much to his parents' despair). The broom factory was excellent as the guide provided a great deal of information in addition to a brief demonstration for our questions. Really enjoyed the whole thing and it left a remarkable impression of Wyoming.
Emm D — Google review
Very interesting people have stayed here. The renovations are amazing. They still make brooms. We spent about two hours but had to leave as they were closing.
Melissa G — Google review
Very interesting history. Even better if you enjoy visiting prisons of the past n how they were run. The first with a women's wing (2 cells only, n they never left it). It could appear that the guards were also "prisoners" while working. Butch Cassidy has his own exhibit inside. There's a broom making Factory out back, that still handmakes n sells the brooms. When the prison closed it was turned into a farm. It bk is a tropics town. Definately worth visiting. A thorough visit can take 3-4 hrs.
Karen T — Google review
Stayed overnight waiting to see it. We didn't think it was worth it. The "tour guide" said, let me know if you have any questions. The lady working in the broom making didn't even acknowledge us. It was just ok. Cool to say we went. But not sure I would have stayed overnight to see it.
Jimmy O — Google review
Hubby & I visited this place and took the guided tour. Our guide was very good and told stories of several inmates that were incarcerated there. One of the most famous was Butch Cassidy. Recommend visiting if in the Laramie area.
K. W — Google review
Explored the Wyoming Territorial Prison, once home to the famous outlaw Butch Cassidy. From the old cells to the barns, wagons, and mill work, it was fascinating to see how prisoners lived—creating brooms, building furniture, and caring for animals. A true step back into the Wild West
Jamie S — Google review
Really good historical site. The guide was well versed on everything there. Would highly recommend.
Aaron M — Google review
Really found this to be a neat place to experience and it was interesting to learn about that time period and about some of the male and female prisoners that were held there.

The Wyoming Women's History House in Laramie, Wyoming is a downtown museum that pays tribute to Louisa Swain and 12 other influential women from the state. Louisa Swain made history as the first woman to vote in a general election in 1870, thanks to laws granting equal voting rights to men and women. This free museum showcases the remarkable achievements of women in Wyoming, earning the state its nickname 'the Equality State' for being the first to grant women voting rights.
Wyoming is a historic leader of women’s rights when it comes to the right to vote and sit on juries. Stop in and learn more from the knowledgeable staff and informative displays. There are some neat artifacts and lots of beautiful quilts. It’s free to visit, too!
LS S — Google review
The world needs more places dedicated to the empowerment of women. A cute little museum right across the street from an excellent place to eat. A must for anyone who visits or stays and Laramie.
Electric C — Google review
Very nice collection of memorabilia. Informative guide walked us through the house and gave historical information. Wyoming and specifically Laramie has a lot of important history when it comes to women, lots of "firsts". I enjoyed the visit.
Margaret P — Google review
Sue was so kind and helpful! We learned so much about the amazing and inspiring women of Laramie, Wyoming, starting with the first woman to vote in the world! Also first woman Governor, first Justice of the Peace, first prison Chaplain, first bailiff, and first woman on jury duty! Come stop by and be inspired by the strong women of Laramie!
Leilani N — Google review
We stopped by but because we had our dogs with us, we thought we would have to settle for just a photo with the statue of Louisa in the courtyard. My husband ended up ducking his head in while I stayed outside with the dogs and the tour guide gave him a super interesting mini-tour, then we swapped places and she gave me the same tour. We learned so much and are still talking about it the next day! Highly recommend stopping in here.

Very interesting and unique museum in downtown Laramie. Features a small plaza off of Second Street. The museum contains a lot of resources about women who contributed to settling and building precedent for equal representation in Wyoming, from early territorial history to statehood and the present.

Discover the wonders of prehistoric times at the Geological Museum located at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. The museum offers a fascinating journey through time, featuring a 75-foot Apatosaurus skeleton and other dinosaur exhibits. Laramie itself is surrounded by picturesque landscapes, including the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest and Snowy Range Mountains, providing ample opportunities for outdoor adventures such as rock climbing at Vedauwoo Recreation Area or skiing at Snowy Range Ski Area.
LOVE this museum. We used to come at least once a week when we lived in Laramie over 16 years ago and we were so excited to see all the improvements and changes that have been made since then. While visiting here, hop over to the Insect Museum a few buildings down and check it out too.

Free museum popular with kids and families. Something to do while on campus.
Evgeny N — Google review
Small museum but very good. Less than 45 min to see. Biggest problem is finding parking. Most places on campus are taken and city parking requires permit.
David L — Google review
Really cool , it’s small but don’t judge it by its appearance it has so many cool things and it’s free . It’s on campus which is convenient and it’s very clean . Kiddos really welcome
Erin — Google review
Small, but worthwhile museum in the Geology building. Good for both adults and kids. And it’s free! We parked on the street just bordering campus and it was a pleasant walk there.
Mira N — Google review
From the moment we entered, we were greeted, welcomed and treated like the only visitors, even while it remained busy! Our time was filled with knowledge and experiences we won't forget- especially our exclusive permission to get so close to Big Al!! Special thanks to Dr. Viletti and Steve for making our day so special!
Jane R — Google review
Such a neat little museum for being free! The Apatosaurus (use to be brontosaurus for us kids from the 70's) was huge! The quality of some of their fossils was amazing! And we loved the rock cave with all the rocks that glowed under the black light!
Cynthia L — Google review
I chanced upon this Museum accidentally and boy was I am amazed at what we found. the University of Wyoming does an excellent job of presenting their archaeological finds as well as history of the area around Wyoming. We were very lucky to meet one of the paleontologists who works in the field around Wyoming and was recently involved with discovering fossils during a pipeline dig. We learned so much in such a short time. The museum is a smaller museum with two levels that you will at least spend an hour and a half to two hours walking around looking at and reading all the information. There fossil skeleton collection and displays Rivals some larger museums. People of all ages will appreciate a visit here. It is a free museum and offers sitting areas with story books and video presentations as well as the normal Museum amenities. If you find yourself even near this area plan a visit.

Step into the rich history of American railroads at the Laramie Railroad Depot, a historic train station turned museum in downtown Laramie, Wyoming. This depot is the sole remaining structure from Union Pacific's once expansive presence in Laramie and offers a fascinating collection of railroad memorabilia and tools, with a focus on rail laying and welding. Visitors can explore the pivotal role of railroads in shaping America's economy and history, particularly during Lincoln's presidency.
This is a wonderful place. Lots of great history. I had my wedding there today and it was a hit. So grateful for their staff. Was above and beyond my expectations!

Great place to go and learn about trains. Fun for all ages! The gentleman at the front was so sweet and made sure we know we could ask him about anything if we wanted! Definitely worth going and taking a look
Erica S — Google review
As a Laramie native I was so excited to visit the train depot museum with my family. I have great memories of attending events and parties here while I was growing up and attending college in Laramie. A lot of work has been done to create a welcoming space and educate visitors about this historic building. We signed in and enjoyed the exhibits and model train displays. Unfortunately we had a very negative experience with the volunteer who was staffing the museum during our visit. While we were visiting, she was drinking a beer behind the counter and made some odd comments. After we had returned from a quick walk around the depot park and farmers market we returned to the parking lot to find out car had been keyed. The volunteer was standing outside in front of our car with an odd expression on her face. When we asked if she had seen anything, she said no, and that she was sure the marks would buff out, while smiling strangely. All in all, just a series of strange interactions that made us uncomfortable. Please be sure to screen your volunteers.

An incredible venue run by great people! The Historic Laramie Railroad Depot is a treasure. I've had the pleasure of attending and hosting multiple events here over the past few years and the team is a delight to work with. The team is easy-going, and the venue is affordable, beautiful, and nestled in a wonderful park full of Laramie and railroad history. The board clearly puts a lot of thought, time, and effort into maintaining the space and keeping it beautiful and accessible to the public. My understanding is that it is completely volunteer run, and a true labor of love for all involved! I had the good fortune to work with the 2025 board to restore the caboose in the park and they did such a wonderful job on the project, along with all of the teams that completed the work. These folks really care about preserving history for future generations and providing a community gathering space for all kinds of events and groups! Thank you to the folks who work so hard to keep Laramie wonderful!
Kyriessa L — Google review
A historic train station in downtown Laramie that is repurposed as a railroad museum. I am not a train enthusiast, but I had a great time. First greeted by gorgeous blossom followed by a gentleman in the museum, my first railroad museum began with learning the role of railroad played in shaping America's economy and history during Lincon's presidency. What precise calculations it took to build rail tracks from the west and east separately until they merged. In addition to railroad equipment and model trains, the historic structure itself is equally impressive.
Small U — Google review
The gentleman in the museum was full of information and very polite.!
Benjamin T — Google review
Charles was really knowledgeable and made our visit memorable. He is a wonderful guide if you call ahead he will give a short personalized tour. The depot is beautiful and grounds are well kept.

If you are an avid train enthusiast then look no further! The Laramie Railroad Depot has to of great history! There are lots of artifacts from the early days of the Union Pacific Railroad and the Laramie Hahn's Peak and Pacific Railroad. The museum is a great place to rent out for events and parties. I see something new every I stop in. Check it out!

The University of Wyoming Art Museum offers a diverse range of ever-changing art exhibits and hosts various events, including holiday celebrations, artist talks, and drop-in meditation sessions. Families can enjoy monthly workshops where they can explore the exhibits and engage in art activities with their children. Located in Laramie, a city nestled between the Snowy and Laramie Ranges of the Rocky Mountains, this museum provides a rich collection of artwork in a small-town atmosphere.
According to the brochure: “In 1993, the AHC and the UW Art Museum moved into the award-winning Centennial Complex designed by acclaimed architect Antoine Predock.” I find the architecture of the building interesting but I am not fond of how one moves through it. The spaces are awkward and seem jammed at places yet too open at others.
Sara K — Google review
Very fun art museum! Loved the alumni artwork and they had a Picasso when I visited. Connor at the front desk was very welcoming and informative, will definitely revisit!
Ernesto C — Google review
A great university art museum with many rotating exhibits. And it's free with very easy parking. Be sure to visit the galleries of the attached American Heritage center which have many unique historical Western paintings.

I m here for matthew shepard'😭😭😭😭 On October 7, 1998, Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old student at the University of Wyoming, was brutally attacked and tied to a fence in a field outside of Laramie, Wyoming and left to die. On October 12, Matt succumbed to his wounds in a hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Junior S — Google review
it’s free, which is great! and the ladies at the front desk were very nice. but it is very small. half of their current selection just didn’t speak to me (although there were a handful that were lovely), so we only spent 15-20 mins walking around. the stan lee exhibit on the other side had some videos/seating, so we stayed in there a bit longer! but i think that exhibit ends Nov 1. (you can park in certain spots in the lot for free, just go in and get a day pass to put in your dash if you’ll be there more than 2 hours).
Skylar W — Google review
This is my second visit to this sensational university art museum. There are many treasures in the collection—like this selection (the red woodblock print by Faith McManus is exquisite). My favorite part is the exceptional work by student artists.
LS S — Google review
A nice art museum. The collection is rich comparing it's in Laramie. Anytime you go there, you will see some exhibition on the wall from some great artists. The museum is nicely organized, accessible to everyone. Your time there will be memorable.
Ibrahim M — Google review
I’ve read some mixed reviews about this museum: “It’s small and not worth going to,” or “The artwork is beautiful, a must-see!” In my opinion, art is a matter of opinion. For me, it may be small, but it’s something! I come from a region where art is mostly disregarded, cast aside, so museums like this and the Nicolaysen in Casper are a refreshing change from home. The art featured have purposes: visit this beautiful museum to see for yourself! (To the staff, thank you for providing such an environment!)

The American Heritage Center, located within the University of Wyoming's Centennial Complex, is a remarkable educational center and repository of historic documents, manuscripts, and archives. Housed in a structure designed by architect Antoine Predock to resemble a mountain, the center offers access to primary source materials for students and researchers. Visitors can explore artifacts, photographs, and documents showcasing the history of Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain West.
I visited recently and saw the Stan Lee exhibit and it was really nicely done. It’s a small exhibit and free. They had some cool give aways too. My favorite part was how he would write the story line for a movie on small cards. When I went the museum was closed so there weren’t a lot of people. The museum is separate from the exhibit.
Patricia J — Google review
Such a neat place. Always well done exhibits. History, art, WY culture etc. Great place solo or for groups who love to learn and explore. Always interested in what they'll exhibit next. Keep kicking butt UW students/staff.
ASD D — Google review
I spent time on the 4th floor in the document collection. Great service, easy access, easy directions to follow. It appeared that there was a lot the center had to offer that I didn't have time to see. Highly recommend. It is road accessible on UW-Laramie campus with a dedicated parking lot, located behind the stadium. Researchers can get free parking passes inside after 10 am. It opens at 9, so I just paid for parking. There is an app you can pay the $8s for a 9 am - 5 pm parking pass. There is no other office or campus building that amyone needs to visit to pay for parking or access the center.

I called today, and I spoke with an amazing woman on the phone. I was calling about some records from the 1800s I needed for a project. While they did have a long wait line and I wasn't able to get my hands on them, she still assisted me by telling me what she knew and other places I could look. I didn't get her name, but she was so nice, and I am so thankful for her help.
Rhys A — Google review
I called and emailed them to ask for information about an obscure fact about an old film. They found exactly what I needed and emailed it to me, way more quickly than anticipated. To be frank, they didn't even have to do it at all. I am in NYC and can't get to Wyoming at the moment, so I appreciated that they dug through files for me. Also they were super nice. I was just so happy when I get the email from them with the info I needed. THANKS SO MUCH to them. Hope to get to meet them in person one day.
Kristin — Google review
This is a great place to take your kids to learn about Wyoming history. It has an extensive library of documents from many periods of Wyoming. The documents I looked over were about the internment camps during WWII. There is also an extensive collection of Stan Lee's work. Original Comic books and art. This is the place to come if you're a marvel fan.

Undine Park is a spacious neighborhood park offering various amenities for visitors. It features picnic shelters and BBQ facilities, as well as sports facilities for tennis, volleyball, basketball, and pickleball. Families with kids can enjoy the splash pad and wading pool during summer months. The park also boasts a playground with swings and a fitness course. Visitors can relax at the picnic area or hold barbecues at the designated pit with four tables available.
Another gem of a park in Laramie. Water pad and lots of playground equipment for your offspring. Volleyball and Pickleball courts (newly resurfaced) with lights on a timer for evening matches. Plenty of benches and tables, covered shelter with bathrooms, almost completely covered in tree canopy and there is also a designated hammock hanging area.

Great park! Stopped off of I-80 to let the kids run around - I would definitely recommend it. Nice playground with some fun climbing options and slides. Fun zip line as well. Park also has very large grassy area, splash pad, pickle ball courts and sand volleyball. Also has several picnic tables and a pavilion with bathrooms

We stopped on our way from Rock Springs to Cheyenne and needed to walk around a little. Google found this park and it was perfect. I wish we had one in our town. Great place for kids to play with the little "splash pad" and the playground. Grills and covered picnic tables looked great. I was really impressed.
Ken F — Google review
A pretty and large park with plenty of benches and trash cans. A splash park for the kiddies, tennis courts for the oldies, bathrooms and drinking fountains (that get winterized in late August so don’t expect free drinking water if you’re a van lifer). Plenty of grills and normal kids playgrounds as well. Super green well kept grass.
R C — Google review
Great place for the kids. The equipment has been updated in the last few years and there is lots of room to roam.

Very nice park with lots of shade in the middle of town. Nice splash pad too with seating for parents around.

Beautiful, big park with lots of grass for running/playing, a tennis court, playground with swings, and splash pad. We stopped here after a two hour drive through town to eat at a very nice covered, clean picnic table. So glad we did! Would have given 5 full stars, but there was no soap or way to dry hands in the bathroom. Not good after using play equipment or going to the restroom!

All Points West Escape Room and Fun Center is a fantastic destination in Laramie, offering a wide range of activities for all ages. From arcade games to laser tag, virtual playgrounds, inflatables, bumper cars, and escape rooms, there's something for everyone. The escape rooms cater to different tastes and experience levels, providing an exciting challenge for groups. Additionally, the center offers excellent service and a clean environment that's perfect for family outings or group events.
The owner Andrea has been running this place for 10 years apparently. Every time it ran out of tokens or tickets she was happy to replace them. I felt like I was in a cool time capsule at 41 years of age. It was so much fun for our 5 1/2 year-old and our three year old. I would recommend this place for Wyoming because there’s not a whole lot to do in Wyoming for kids ! Husband even liked it. It felt very old-school and you actually get real tickets and real quarters.!!!!
Chelsy B — Google review
Once again we had our daughters birthday party there. There was plenty of things to do for all the kids. I don't think anyone had a bad time. Lots of space for gifts, and food. They had a giant table for everyone to eat from and 2 bathrooms. It's a really nice small businesses to support and the price is reasonable too. Friendly owners and good solid fun. We will be continuing to book more parties there.
Ben E — Google review
Even though their party space was fully booked we were still able to bring our son for last minute birthday fun and Andrea went above and beyond to make the day wonderful for our boys.

What an awesome place to have in Laramie! I did the escape room with coworkers and I highly recommend it. They have three different rooms to suit your taste or experience level. We were able to split into two groups and “race”. There were great jump scares in our spooky room, perfect for Halloween season. The other great part is, if one group finishes early they can play arcade games while they wait. There’s a little something for everybody here. Go check it out! **edit: came back to do the other room, Jungle Quest, and can highly recommend that one for the younger age folks (a five year old in our group had a fantastic time the whole hour!)
Ellen W — Google review
Going in, there's a video game arcade and to the left, the front desk where you can gain access to the laser tag area and escape rooms. We were there for laser tag, so we bought 3 ten minute games for our group of 4. Since this was our first experience with laser tag, we can only say that we had fun, after receiving our equipment and basic instructions. One of us uses a power wheelchair full time, and had access to a central ground level area with various barriers and obstacles to use for cover. Some of the barriers were too close together for a wheelchair to use effectively. There were some ramps and bridges, but these were much too steep for wheelchair use. We felt that one of these could be made accessible to provide more variety for a person using a wheelchair. All in all, it was fun to discover the features of the area and the equipment, and of course I will return! Please note that the street level photo is of the next door gas station, with All Points West on the extreme right edge.

We just had a great birthday party there! So affordable and we all had a great time. Booking the party was done with 1 email and they were very accommodating to all of our needs. The virtual playground was a hit for everyone but especially our toddler. We will definitely be back to beat those winter time blues!

We had our last day of school party there, it was AMAZING. Andrea is so patient with 10 boys begging for every thing at once. We spent 3 hours they were worn out! Everything is so clean, the service is incredible, it's a great place for the whole family. Something for everyone. Definitely our favorite place!

If you're on the lookout for a delightful indoor haven where children can unleash their creativity and energy, look no further than The Nest Indoor Play Space in Laramie! This charming venue welcomes families with its warm ambiance, making it an ideal spot for little ones to explore. With an impressive array of high-quality toys and engaging activities, kids can dress up in costumes, build towering block structures, and enjoy social interactions with peers.
We love The Nest! Rhianna has done a wonderful job creating a space that is fun, safe, inviting, and entertaining for the children of Laramie. Laramie needed an indoor play space, especially in the winter, and she made it happen. My kids love going to The Nest to see which “new to us” toys they get to play with, dress up in costumes, build block towers, and interact with other kids. As a parent, I love seeing them find new ways to be creative and have fun, and as a bonus, I get to chat with Rhianna who is so kind, down to earth, and personable. We are so thankful for The Nest!

We love bringing our kids to The Nest! We have a 2 year old and a 5 year old that can both be entertained for hours in this space. It’s clean and well maintained with high quality toys. There’s also coffee for the parents to enjoy while their kids play. It’s a great place to go when the weather turns bad. The membership and punch card options are super reasonable too. We initially bought a punch card for the flexibility, but just going once a week is enough to make the membership worth it and we’ll be switching over once our punches run out!

My toddler and I absolutely love going to The Nest, we usually go twice a week and rarely do we not go at least once!! my daughter has so much fun with the great toy selection, has made wonderful friendships, and yells "The Nest" every time she sees the Civic Center! I love it because I never feel judged, Rhianna is always willing to listen to me blab, she has coffee to share, and has the best advice on anything parenting and early childhood development!! It is our home away from home and we are so grateful to have this wonderful space to go to!!

We love The Nest. The space is thoughtfully organized, the toys are great fun, and the people are the best. Whether you’re a full time Laramigo or passing through looking for a little kid friendly activity (especially on a cold or windy day!) this is the place. This is a true gem in the Gem City.

We have such a great time every time we visit! Fun for the kids, coffee and adult conversation for me, it's always a great day at The Nest!

My kids absolutely love The Nest. Rhianna is so friendly and welcoming. She rotates toys, so new toys are often there when we come. This summer we took one of her art classes and it was so so fun! All the messy sensory art without me having to clean up the mess at my house! Couldn’t recommend it enough.

Our kids love the Nest! They provide a variety of educational, age- appropriate toys that keep our girls engaged for hours. Rhianna is awesome to work with and always has great ideas for keeping kids engaged and excited. Highly recommend!

My kiddos love The Nest! Rhianna is so intentional with everything she does to make it an amazing experience— from the variety of toys, Fiona, making sure everyone is comfortable, & offering so many new & amazing things! We love The Nest!
