French restaurant
France-Soir is a classic French bistro located in Melbourne, open since 1986. The restaurant offers a cozy and convivial space with menus scribbled on mirrors. It's known for serving traditional French dishes such as snails, steak tartare, escargot, cassoulet, steak frites, and crepes suzette. The extensive wine list of 3000 options is reasonably priced and one of the best in the country.
We visited France-Soir in Melbourne on 02/08/25 after hearing many positive reviews. This place is the perfect restaurant for a “hustle-bustle” atmosphere - but keep in mind it is quite small. Regarding the food, we had already eaten quite a large breakfast so we only ordered a few popular entrees. This is what we ordered: - Steak tartare 100g $30 ✨ - Burgundy snails with garlic $28 - Scallops with saffron sauce $36 ✨ ✨ = Must-have Out of these menu items, we felt the tartare and scallops were the star of the show. France-Soir nails using fresh ingredients and perfecting the texture of our foods. The tartare and scallops were both smooth and soft. The snails were very heavy with the garlic flavour, which we did not enjoy. Overall we would love to visit again to try some of the mains. A great, high energy atmosphere!

Our waiter didn’t take our order correctly, so we missed out on one of the dishes we really wanted to try. We also felt the service was quite rude at times. That said, the steak with mushroom sauce was delicious! The white wine mussels and shredded duck were also really good, but very salty (which, judging by other reviews, might be a recurring issue). The Crème Caramel was a bit average and underwhelming. The atmosphere is lively and the menu is huge — lots of interesting dishes to explore. I’m open to coming back to try more — hopefully with friendlier service and a bit more balanced seasoning.

The true definition of a Melbourne institution. I’ve only ever heard people rave about this place — and after dining here, I completely understand why it’s been thriving for over 40 years. What’s already charming is that bookings are only taken over the phone — no online reservations — which adds to its old-school appeal. The moment you walk in, you can feel the buzz. The atmosphere is electric yet classic — white tablecloths, mirrored walls with menus and specials written across them, and a retro bar greeting you at the entrance. The waiters, dressed in crisp black and white, move gracefully through the space, creating a seamless dining experience. Service was exceptional — attentive, fast, and friendly throughout the night. The food was absolutely exquisite. We started with a dozen oysters, mussels in white wine and cream, and the house-made pork sausage with mustard sauce — all perfection. For mains, we had the Entrecôte, cooked to perfection and served with fries, salad, and our choice of sauce. The portion size was generous, the quality outstanding, and at $53, incredible value. We paired our meal with cocktails followed by a bottle of rosé — the perfect match. France-Soir is one of those restaurants that stays with you long after you’ve left. A place I’ll always come back to and dream about returning to. It’s fun, timeless, and everything you want from a classic French dining experience. I hope it continues to shine in Melbourne for decades to come.

A hidden gem serving French cuisine. Its quite packed and always crowded, best to make a booking. Friendly staff. Food was served quick. The escargot was delicious. They serve excellent bread as well. Duck was cooked nicely. Chips were crispy. Steak was good, wished it was a bigger portion. The dessert was exceptional. Pear tart was amazing, chocolate mousse was rich.

I had an absolute fantastic night, no words can describe the time I had at France soir, Milan our waiter was caring and took time to make our night so special! John, Cedric, Justin and Gaspard did their part beautifully! Can’t wait to come back to our own little France here in Melbourne!
Emma B — Google review
There is a reason that this is a beloved Melbourne institution, the food is delicious. The service is quick, attentive and friendly, the wine list is extensive. I love the steak tartare its perfect, the escargot is tender and packed with garlic, sopping up that butter with the fresh warm bread a delight. I had the rabbit special which was rich and moreish and the profiteroles were an obscenely generous serving.

Have been coming here for more than 30 years. Never ever been disappointed. It's a classic French bistro with bluntly a very extensive menu. There are moderately priced wines and shall we say more expensive ones so if you think the wine is overpriced choose something lesser.. What to order? Anything! But I need the steak au pouivre at least once a year. Been coming so long never had a disappointment. And the rude staff thing is something I have never experienced. It's just so good

Takeout Restaurant
Cafe Di Stasio is a long-standing Italian restaurant known for its contemporary cuisine and elegant ambiance adorned with art-filled walls. The dining experience has evolved to be less formal, blurring the lines between upscale restaurants and casual cafes. The restaurant offers a variety of house specialties such as linguine with prawns and homemade pasta with tomato, mozzarella, and basil. With its faithful clientele, Cafe Di Stasio is renowned for its impeccable cooking and exceptional service provided by long-serving waiters.
We went here for dinner as we were staying near by. The meal was beautiful and the staff were delightful. Just nice touches taking my coat napkin placed on your lap...just the little things to add to a lovely dining experience.

We dined at Cafe Di Stasio this evening for my husband’s birthday. Such faultless food and service, with an understated elegance. The service was exemplary, the food absolutely exquisite. After having visited Melbourne several times over the years, this was truly an exceptional dining experience.

We celebrated you anniversary at Cafe Di Stasio in St Kilda and it was brilliant. Staff were fantastic, ambiance was perfect and the food was amazing! Can't wait to go back and try more from the menu!
Valeriana V — Google review
We went for a special occasion and had no trouble making a booking using the online system. The restaurant is quite intimate, very dark inside with only small windows and no view of the street at all. Really we could have been anywhere. The menu is authentic Italian and everything we ordered was fabulous! The angel hair pasta on the specials menu had a mushroom ragout sauce and was to die for. We ordered baked oysters, plus the slow cooked lamb and the beef - which was served rare, sliced and truly melted in my mouth. The roasted veggies were also delicious. We shared two desserts and can recommend the tiramisu. It was quite cosy seating wise and with so many hard surfaces (concrete walls and floring) it's a very noisy space. I could barely hear our conversation when the restaurant was full. Nevertheless I would still say it was a romantic environment. Our lunch for two without excessive drinks came to $350 however they do offer a set menu with two courses and a glass of wine for around $39pp. Great place for a special occasion or a truly authentic Italian fine dining experience.

Exceptional food, service and atmosphere A modern Italian fine dining experience from start to finish. A perfect evening. Not cheap but totally worth it.

Remains one of the best restaurants in Melbourne after all these years. Yes, the food is fabulous, but for once, genuinely, the waiting staff make the key difference. Professional and knowledgeable, ask them to help with food and the wine list, you really won't be sorry.
Paul I — Google review
PRICES INCONGRUENT WITH QUALITY AND SERVICE Cafe Di Stasio has the makings of a good restaurant but falls down on both service and quality. We dropped in for lunch on a weekend - set menu of either 3 or 5 courses. We opted for the 3 course - a scallop entree, pasta or chicken main and a slice of tiramisu. $230 all up with water is way over the top for what you get. The waiter was efficient but in that cool, stuffy way that doesn't gel with the Fitzroy al fresco dining vibe (we sat outside). People with mobility issues will struggle if they need to use the bathroom as it is located up a set of narrow stairs. the entrance has a small step to negotiate but otherwise the dining room is all on one level. Al fresco is an obvious option in beachside St Kilda but the outdoor tables feel very exposed to the passing parade on busy Fitzroy Street so I'd recommend indoor dining. As a lunch destination I think you would be better trying one of the numerous restaurants actually on the foreshore - cheaper and more menu options. If you are after a serious evening dining experience its probably an OK option. Street parking is fairly fierce but the tram line runs right past the door.
Ian W — Google review
Amazing Italian food done right. No fuss, just the traditional way. Probably the closest you can get to Italy now due to Covid travel restrictions! However, this place is not your everyday eatery. The price is a bit steep, so it's definitely a place to go to for a special occasion. Not to mention, service was also great.

Elwood Bathers is a stylish all-day diner located on Elwood beach, offering modern seafood platters and an array of Australian wines in a chic dining room with an outdoor terrace. The restaurant boasts the best views in the area, allowing guests to step from the sand to their table. The seasonal menu features locally-sourced, sustainable produce with favorites such as fresh market fish and Southern Ranges eye fillet steak.
Beautiful sunny day, and perfect weather for outdoor dining at Elwood Bathers. The outdoor area is well-shaded and protected from any wind behind glass, which provides the perfect spot for outdoor dining, coffee, drink or whatever, while looking out to the water and beach activities. Service was excellent and attentive, and restaurant both indoors and outdoors were very busy. Might pay to book if travelling to Elwood to reserve a table especially when the beaches are busy. Pets are welcome and family friendly. Great beach atmosphere. Every element of our three courses was very very good, including wines by the glass and coffee to finish. Very happy and will be back. Many thanks.

Possibly one of the best restaurant experiences we have had in quite a while. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The service, from the moment we arrived, till our leaving the restaurant was exceptional. The wait staff managed A perfect balance of being attentive and engaging, but giving us space and not being intrusive. Each meal came out in a timely fashion, with a sensible time frame offered between courses. Will happily return to this venue.

Modern Australian cuisine right on the beach! The seafood here is absolutely worth it — super fresh and beautifully cooked. The menu is seasonal, and honestly, just ask the manager for recommendations — you can’t go wrong. Definitely a hidden gem worth a second (or third!) visit!

As a floral studio, we had the pleasure of working with Elwood Bathers for a client's engagement party on September 20, 2025, and the experience was exceptional. From the initial planning with their Events Coordinator to the seamless execution on the day, every member of the team was incredibly professional and friendly. They provided tremendous help during our bump-in and ensured everything ran smoothly throughout the event. What truly stood out was how supportive and responsive the entire staff was. This collaborative atmosphere allowed us to do our best work, and ultimately, let the clients simply relax and enjoy their special night. We highly recommend Elwood Bathers to any couple and vendor looking for a top-tier event experience❤️🩵

Restaurant
Grill Americano offers a romantic Venetian experience with delectable desserts like tiramisu with hidden chocolate layers and classic vanilla meringue cake. The restaurant's retro-glam ambiance features terrazzo floors, royal blue leather seats, and a white marble bar. The menu includes the indulgent profiterole con nocciole. Despite the higher prices, visitors appreciate the elegant atmosphere and delicious Italian cuisine, making it a delightful dining experience.
This was 2 years in the making to FINALLY tasting that viral tiramisu that keeps popping up on my TikTok page. (I only come down to Melbourne once a year to see family and friends thats why it took a while) But I must say my experience for the first time (and my family's second experience) was phenomenal! Could not fault one thing whilst dining for lunch. Greeted warm and friendly at the door, the staff setting up plates, cutlery and refilling table water at our table and the quality and taste of the food was delicious! Definitely will be coming back again to try out the other dishes and of course desserts when im down again next year or even your Sydney store which is closee to home (to be opened soon at time of this review)!
Jason R — Google review
We recently dined at Grill Americano to celebrate our anniversary and, while the food was absolutely delicious, the overall experience fell short of expectations—especially for what is positioned as a high-end dining venue. From the moment we arrived, there was a noticeable lack of warmth. We weren’t greeted at the door, and it wasn’t until the barman briefly acknowledged us that someone asked if we had been served—despite us only just walking in. It felt a bit disorganised and impersonal. The service throughout the evening was quite average. Our server was friendly enough, but each time he filled our water glasses, he spilled some on the table. It wasn’t a major issue, but it’s the kind of detail you’d expect to be avoided in a premium dining setting. As foodies who love celebrating special occasions with memorable experiences, we were disappointed that nothing was done to acknowledge our anniversary. Most fine dining restaurants we’ve been to usually offer something small—a dessert, a greeting, or even just a note—to mark the occasion. Sadly, there was none of that here. The highlight was certainly the food, which was beautifully presented and full of flavour. If the service matched the standard of the kitchen, this would have been a much more memorable night. We’d consider returning for the food alone, but hope the service and guest experience see some improvements in the future.
G S — Google review
Based on the prices at Grill Americano, expectations were high and it's clear the concept an intent is high, but alas it does miss the mark by some way. The arrival experience was cold and uninviting, a chap in a suit showed no interest in extending any form of greeting, just waited to be told what we were there for! The restaurant is stunning in terms of design and layout, and seating is comfortable even if tables are fairly close together. We started with 2 Sydney Rock oysters and 2 Tasmanian Pacific oysters, all very good, we liked the Tassie ones best. We ordered mixed bread which was OK as it should be for $16.50. For starters we shared the Salumi misti with some lovely bresaola, San Danielle and Mortadella and a piece of mozzarella, it came garnished with pickled green peppers and olives. The duck croquettes were lacking any real flavour and the aioli did little to add to the dish. For main course we ordered the 600Gr bone in Rib Eye which was cooked to perfection, well rested and tasty, with the rib eye we ordered roast potatoes that unfortunately were more like boiled potatoes flashed through the oven, not at all crispy, the Green beans were undercooked, they did not even reach the "al dente" stage and completely lacking any seasoning. We asked for Bearnaise amd red wine sauces, both served in cheap ugly sauceboats, red wine sauce was just warm and the Bearnaise somewhat runny, disappointing. In terms of the food, the only real star was the warm apple pie which was exceptional, crispy pastry and very very good filling.

The Waiter who served us on Saturday 20th @ 5.15pm booking for Robyn, was absolutely amazing. The food was incredible, we could not fault a thing. Definitely one of our favorite restaurants in Melbourne. Will be back next month, this time bringing some friends to show them this experience and the incredible food/wine.
Robyn C — Google review
We had a reservation, but the waitress initially seated us at a narrow corner table even though plenty of other seats were available. After we asked, she happily moved us to a better spot. We ordered the Bistecca alla Fiorentina (1.2 kg) — it was decent, but honestly, Victor Churchill does a much better steak. The Tiramisù was the highlight of the meal. Overall, just an average experience. $200 ppl
G — Google review
An elegant dining space for Italian cuisine, cocktails and people watching Although a "vibey" ambiance with dark walls, commanding chandeliers, jacketed waitperson and patrons that dressed up to the nines, I find the seatings too close to each other and the noise level a touch too high for private conversations. I don't normally go to Italian restaurant because I prefer to cook Italian at home - fresh pasta, bolognese, carborana, putanesca, pesto, ragu, osso buco, risotto, lasagne, ravioli, agnolotti, gnocchi, pizza, focaccia, tiramisu, panna cotta etc - these are simpler to make (than Asian meals), and often, taste much more delicious and generous home cooked. At a recent special $30 lunch deal at Grill Americano, I saw an item on the menu that brings back lots of memories - bistecca alla fiorentina that we had during our very first holiday in Italy. We started with a plate of mozzarella and bresaola ($48.50). Then the Florentine steak (1.2kg $185) from somewhere in New South Wales (we could not get the origin from the waitperson), cooked medium rare. The char is very nice - something that you can't get in a typical home stove. The meat itself was tender with very minimal grit, cooked with varying degree of doneness (more rare for the meat closest to the bone and more cooked furthest from the bone). A simple plate of green beans (not overcooked and still with a satisfying "snap") completes the meal. Service is professional.

I had been wanting to try Grill Americano for a long time, and went last night for a second date. Inside the restaurant is very nice, perfect lighting and nice decor however the seating is incredibly cramped, I could not get to my seat without apologising for bumping the couples' table next to me as I squeezed between their table and mine, and I'm fit, good luck to anyone who isn't. The waiter who took our drink orders was good, polite and helpful with wine selection. The waitress who took our food order was also very polite and friendly, but unfortunately this is where the praise for the service staff ends. After ordering our dishes, the antipasto arrived reasonably quickly. But 90 minutes after ordering we were still waiting for a pasta dish. We got the attention of a waiter, which wasn't easy as not one waiter had come to top up water or ask if we'd like to order more drinks, and politely asked if our food would be coming out soon. After checking, the waiter returned to tell us that they'd get it started and it should only be 5 minutes. 10 minutes later it arrived, and while the flavours of the spanner crab linguini were ok, albeit with very little crab meat, the dish was barely warm. Our steak and sides arrived a bit later, and again none of them were hot. The steak was again barely warm, and the beans were almost cold. I'd say the food is ok, definitely not worth the hype, but nice enough, and probably even better if it was served hot, but the service leaves A LOT to be desired here. Not even in the ball park for the price point. Add to that having to pay a 10% surcharge for a Sunday, and it's a bit of a slap in the face. Definitely my first and last time dining here.

finally tried out grill americano during their 30 year lucas group celebrations! $30 lunch set panino americano - steak, lettuce, tomato, aioli, sourdough - 7.5/10 - the steak was flavoured really well, but the steak was very hard to chew like im not too sure how well done they cooked the steak bc it did look medium rare? but it was just hard to eat like i would bite down on the sandwich, expect a bit of tussle with the meat cos its steak, but not like fully rip out the entire steak from the sandwich because i just couldn’t bite down on it - the sourdough itself and rest of the sandwich components were amazing, the bread was so crispy throughout and like never lost its crunch, the aioli rly complemented the sandwich well mini tiramisu americano - DELICIOUS - 10/10 experience - i can see why people love coming here for the tiramisu now - it’s got such a lovely coffee flavour to it that’s not overpowering at all - the chocolate layer in the middle was amazing like more tiramisus need to do that insalata mista salad - $18.5, 8/10 - ur standard salad, lovely dressing, a bit too much maybe because my whole mouth just got slathered by sauce - fresh greens though! overall, would love to come back and try their standard/ dinner menu! and get a FULL slice of that tiramisu

Southeast Asian restaurant
Aru is a restaurant with understated decor in Melbourne, offering snacks, cocktails and innovative meals. Chef Khanh Nguyen's skillfully blends Southeast Asian flavours with native Australian ingredients and ancient techniques to create modern classics that never feel gimmicky. The roast duck is especially good, but the food may not be unique enough for some guests.
We had a wonderful evening. Every dish was both familiar and creative, perfectly blending Chinese and Western elements in both flavor and presentation. Each course came with delightful surprises. The dessert is especially worth recommending—the chocolate mousse was exceptional. It combined the rich, velvety texture of chocolate mousse with creamy ice cream, perfectly balanced with a layer of crisp chocolate and crunchy nuts. It was, without a doubt, the best dessert I’ve had this year. The service was warm and courteous. Between courses, the staff promptly cleared the table, ensuring a clean and refreshing dining experience as we moved on to the next culinary delight. We ordered the signature butter bread, oysters, crab tart, aged roast duck, clay pot pork neck rice, and roasted cauliflower. Every single dish was outstanding and comes highly recommended! Thank you again for an unforgettable dining experience!

We went to this restaurant for a birthday celebration and enjoyed every single dish from the set menu we had. The highlight of the menu was the duck, which was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. Overall, it was a modern and refreshing experience. I was looking for a set menu where steak wasn’t the main course and there was a touch of creativity — and this place delivered it perfectly.

Love this place! Nice modern cuisine and focus more to modern asian cuisine. Love the raw beef tartare. The sriracha added a nice taste to the beef. Their spanner crab toast taste fresh, crunchy & creamy. Their cheesecake desserts not only pretty but also delicious. Love it! On the pricey side, but still worth the value.

Every bite was full of surprises! The dishes captured Southeast Asian flavours perfectly, authentic yet creative, with great depth and richness. Highly recommend the Wagyu tongue and bone marrow, simply outstanding! The atmosphere was lively but comfortable, and the staff were super friendly and accommodating, they even helped us store our belongings. It was a busy day, yet we never felt rushed. A truly enjoyable dining experience!

By far the best restaurant we’ve visited in Melbourne ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ we opted for the tasting menu and it did not disappoint. Each course was packed with great texture and delicious flavors. My partner and I dined here last night and, while our waitress was absolutely delightful and attentive throughout the evening, the overall experience fell short of expectations. There was an unusually long interval — close to an hour between our entrées and main courses, which was surprising given that the restaurant did not appear particularly busy at the time. Although the food itself was quite enjoyable, the duck, oysters, and spring rolls were all well-executed, the service lacked the same level of polish. When the bill was presented by one of the tall men who worked there, it was followed almost immediately by the EFTPOS machine, without allowing us the opportunity to review the charges first. We also didn’t understand a word he said, he spoke so fast and almost without care that we didn’t catch a word he had said to us when he would sometimes serve us. This interaction felt rushed and very uncomfortable. My partner even got up to pay, yet the staff member still returned to the table with the machine, whilst we had got up to walk towards him, which only added to the awkwardness. (Just rude tbh). Overall, while the food and one member of the service team were commendable (the little lady) , pacing and manner of service would benefit from a more considered and measured approach.

Australian restaurant
Diner
Vue de Monde is an upscale dining spot located in the Rialto building, offering sweeping city views from its 55th-floor location. The restaurant provides a luxurious experience with modern Australian cuisine and an impressive 18-course feast using the finest native ingredients. The elegant ambiance features black walls, celestial lighting, and twinkling city lights below, creating a unique dining atmosphere.
Can’t believe this was my first time here! Wonderful service, with really attentive staff, even the chef team say hi! Felt like there were servers flitting around us the whole time we were there. Generous portions, you’ll definitely not leave hungry, and good wine pairings (I got the most basic one). The cheese course was wonderful! Loved the theatre, and interactions with staff and tour of the kitchen and some hands on activities. The view is of course, wonderful, seating and atmosphere is very comfortable, and I can’t wait to come back again!

Superlative food n fantastic service. They are very attentive n on hand to anticipate any of your needs. Will recommend this as a bucket list item. The only reason why I gave 4 stars for atmosphere was: by the time it was our turn to tour the kitchen, most of the food preparation had finished so there's nothing much to observe. The schedule should be more flexible
K W — Google review
The set menu is coherent, celebrating native ingredients. Very innovative. Enjoyed most of the savoury but love the desserts most, especially the soufflé. Probably the best i have ever tasted. Was told the recipe was kept since restaurant opening. Definitely the signature dish! The little tour to open kitchen is a bonus. It is a bit pricey but worthwhile given good food, great ambience and night view.

My partner and I had dinner at Vue de Monde to celebrate our 5th anniversary, and the entire experience was absolutely exceptional from start to finish. It was clear that the team is passionate about every single detail. The food was extraordinary. Each course was a work of art, showcasing innovative combinations and visually stunning presentations that truly highlighted the quality of the ingredients. But what made the evening truly unforgettable was the personal and attentive service. The staff made our celebration feel incredibly special by presenting us with a personalized card signed by the team to commemorate our anniversary. A major highlight was the post-meal tour of their kitchen, where a staff member graciously showed us their operations and answered our questions. It was a fascinating look behind the scenes and a perfect end to the meal. It was a experience made memorable by a team that genuinely cares. Highly recommended for any special occasion.

Highly recommend for any special occasions. The experience starts from the moment you enter the foyer at street level where you are greeted and it continues as you take the lift to the 55th floor. The views are spectacular looking out to Melbourne high above the city at sunset. The wait staff were truly amazing and really did everything to break the mold of robot waiters, they added their own personal touch which was well received. The dining area was spacious and left the experience very intiment. The food was a absolute culinary masterpiece. The flavors and the textures and unique paintings of some foods left an orgasmic explosion in your mouth. We celebrated our 40th birthdays at Vue we made the most perfect choice of restaurants for this momentous occasion. The chefs tour of the kitchen added a whole new element to the experience, With Wealth of knowledge and overall experience every section of the kitchen was explaon in great detail by the Sous Chef who was a very funny yet very professional man. We enjoyed a photo with the chefs and the topped out the experience for us it was beautiful. After this we returned to our table to find beautiful personalized birthday cards signed by the staff. It was truly a night and experience that we will remember forever and pass on the message to as many people as possible. Highly recommended

We celebrated my birthday at Vue de Monde (2 Oct 2025), and the experience was exceptional from start to finish. The team (especially Silvia, Barbara, Mia, and Neil) were outstanding, attentive, intuitive, and genuinely kind. They struck the perfect balance between engagement and giving us space, making the evening feel effortless. From the lobby welcome to our farewell, every interaction was thoughtful and polished. They handled complex allergy requirements with remarkable care, never once making us feel like an inconvenience. Each of the 11 or so courses were perfectly portioned and timed. We had to decline the cheese course as we were so full! Every dish flowed into the next with thoughtful precision, each complementing the previous and what was to come. My highlights included; the garlic and leek tart, wagyu and damper, and the ice cream sandwich. The Million Dollar Baby cocktail was a heavenly must from Lui Bar. This paired with the views made the evening even more memorable. At the end, they presented a handwritten birthday card, which was a beautiful personal touch. It’s those small gestures, paired with flawless service and exceptional food, that make the Vue de Monde team truly world class. We are so grateful to the team for making the night unforgettable, and we will definitely be back.

One of the best restaurants if not the best restaurant in the Southern Hemisphere. From the time we got there till the time I left, the entire experience was amazing. The somm team, the wait staff were just exceptional. Explaining every single dish, element of the restaurant and the the inspiration behind. A special shout out to Raj, for being the absolutely lovely host and to the lovely team Barbie, Nicole, Danny, Ben, PJ, Cody, Maite and Fergus and everyone. (I couldn’t remember everyone’s names). The service, the atmosphere and the food were nothing short of exceptional. It was an absolute pleasure to visit this place and I can’t stress enough to visit it again! Much Love!

The food is perfection and every dish is a work of art - so beautiful and creative and the tableware uses gorgeous natural materials. But it’s the team that work there that make it such a special experience! Our fave part of the night was the kitchen tour and the interactive station with the patisserie chef. Shoutout to Andy for the tour - we loved meeting the team that brings it all to life, like Jack, the apprentice, he was all smiles and full of energy!

Rockpool Bar & Grill Melbourne is a luxurious restaurant located in the Crown Entertainment Complex, offering modern Australian dishes with a focus on steak. With sister restaurants in Sydney and Perth, it has gained a reputation for consistency and exceptional taste. The menu features over 80 dishes, with a spotlight on their five dry-aged steaks served with various sauces. The venue boasts high ceilings and moody lighting, providing an upscale ambience for diners to enjoy their meticulously prepared meals.
What a fine dining experience! 😋 It was my first time in Melbourne experiencing true five-star service. The waitstaff were incredibly attentive — always keeping an eye on us, offering thoughtful recommendations, serving drinks right on time, and even, when I mentioned I was from South America, greeting me with a few kind phrases in Spanish. That small gesture made me feel genuinely welcomed, and I really appreciated it. As for the food, I could tell the steak was of excellent quality. One detail I really want to highlight is that the plates were served warm, which helped keep the food at the perfect temperature — honestly, that alone deserves an award. ❤️ The only thing I would improve is the portion size of the “entrées” or “antipasti,” which felt a bit small considering the price and the expectation to satisfy your palate. That’s really the only downside. But I’ll definitely be coming back — the sauce that accompanied my steak was out of this world: creamy, savory, and perfectly salty. Just ideal as a side.

Rockpool Bar &Grill is a beautiful steakhouse restaurant inside the Crown Towers Melbourne. It is offering the best cuts of steak and wine list is incredible. The interior design is lavish and luxurious. I personally love this venue and have had dinner there multiple times as a large or small group. What I noticed over time is that quality of food and service as well as a wait time for meals are a draw of luck, you can leave amazed or disappointed. Atmosphere is always nice. Food is generally cooked with excessive amounts of salt, so ask for a low salt option if it is an issue for you. I would recommend this restaurant for a formal fine dining or business lunch or dinner.

This was our second time dining at Rockpool this year — and somehow, it was even better than the first (and we didn’t think that was possible!). The oysters were fresh and delicious, and the cold flathead dish was an absolute standout — perfectly balanced and full of flavour. The duck fat potatoes were golden and crispy, the mushrooms were rich and comforting, and every cocktail was a work of art. The service was exceptional — warm, attentive, and seamless from start to finish. Rockpool continues to raise the bar. Already planning our next visit!

Grand final day lunch and only 4 tables being used. Just walked in. Had a lovely long lunch. I had the coral trout which was divine. followed by the Apple tart tartin. Hubby had 230g fillet steak which he thoroughly enjoyed followed by the pavlova. Very attentive service. Really lovely wines on offer. Would definitely go again next time we are in Melbourne.

An absolutely fantastic dining experience from start to finish." Our group of eight was thoroughly impressed. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring a seamless experience. My medium-well steak was truly outstanding—incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned. While the prices are certainly premium, they are fully justified by the superb service, refined atmosphere, and the uncompromising quality of the food. Highly recommended for a special occasion.

I have had the pleasure of attending this venue twice now, each time I had the same, yet different, experience. The service, outstanding, the venue atmosphere, spectacular, the meat, mouth watering, however the entré was a little different to last time. Last time I attended this venue I ordered the bone marrow socked toast, which was to die for. However, when I ordered again this time round it was very noticeably smaller and less ‘juicy’. Unsure if I simply catches a bad night, however this was my only downside. For the price and expected experience, it’s why I am providing this a 4/5 stars.

Australian Wagyu. Well marbled. Aged. What more can you ask for. One of the best steaks I've ever had, each bite had the goodness of steak all over it, moist, tender, full of flavor, kudos to the chef too who grilled it to perfection: Medium Rare, on the Rare side. The Grilled Coral Trout Collars with Cafe de Paris butter was a nice way to start the meal too

Update to below: Received a courtesy call from the manager within 2 days of the visit to get more details regarding below experience. From what I gathered it seems genuine and it's great to see they care and sincerely offered apologies for the hat ordeal and kindly offered another visit to showcase what Rockpool has to offer. I think that is very positive for the business, best of luck with future endeavours. Org Review: Extremely disappointed... I had booked for a special celebration and right at the front reception almost 40 seconds into the experience I was told "we have a no hat policy"... On top of the ridiculous nature of what I was being told, it was delivered in a rude and sharp manner as well. I didn't walk out as it was a special occasion for my partner and I didn't want to make it more uncomfortable for her but there are many better ways to waste $500 than have a restaurant tell you what to wear and what not to wear. Under any other circumstances I would not have set foot in this place and never will. You want the best stake in Melbourne? Save yourself from this place and go to San Telmo or any other place that I have reviewed! Check out the picture of the awful $200 rare steak served with a lemon wedge... The presentation of the burnt meat speaks volumes itself. Hopefully you don't make my mistake by going here!

Asian fusion restaurant
Modern Australian restaurant
Supernormal is a trendy Asian-fusion restaurant in St Kilda, known for its vibrant atmosphere and open kitchen. The menu offers a variety of Japanese, Chinese, and Korean flavors, with options like duck and lamb. Guests can also enjoy karaoke in a dedicated booth after their meal. Andrew McConnell's expertise in Asian cuisine shines through dishes like the lobster roll made with local crayfish and Japanese Kewpie mayonnaise.
Visiting this place from a friend’s recommendation. And tbh, it’s beyond what i expect. Nice food and amazing wine list. Really enjoying a whole dinning experience. Since i’m going solo, i’m happy that some of their menu available for half portion. I order szechuan pickled, chicken prawn dumpling, prawn toast, cold cut chicken, tuna and oyster. Everything is beautiful. Their peanut butter & chocolate desserts is to die for. I mean, what can go wrong with those combos? Surely i will comeback for the next visit.

Although wasn’t intended to visit as my son just needed to go to the toilets but the manager was very nice and kind so we stayed for lunch after knowing it’s an Asian fusion restaurant. The dishes were amazing. Very well plated and cooked. We had a pleasant time.

This is my second time at this restaurant, and the food is still just as good. We ordered the lobster burgers and sticky rice cakes again, like last time, and also tried some new dishes. I highly recommend the roast pork—it’s perfectly cooked, soft, juicy, and full of flavor. The dumplings, on the other hand, were a bit too plain and not very impressive. The flounder was an interesting surprise for me. It came with a type of Japanese kombu I hadn’t tried before—it looked grey, turned a little slimy when eaten, and had a very strong taste. Personally, I enjoyed it, but I can see how it might not be

***** Supernormal: My Go-To for a Fantastic Night Out! Supernormal is, quite simply, my favorite spot in the city. After five visits, it remains consistently excellent. Everything, from the moment you walk in, is top-notch. The food is always the star, and I can never go past the lamb, it's always incredible, perfectly cooked, and a dish I look forward to every single time. And let's not forget that amazing little complimentary touch: the soy-roasted pumpkin seeds they bring out at the beginning are addictive! Beyond the food, the ambience is buzzing yet comfortable, the service is always great (attentive but never intrusive), and they truly nail the drinks. Their cocktails are inventive and delicious, and the wine selection is broad and thoughtful. Supernormal delivers a fantastic experience across the board. If you're looking for an unforgettable meal and a great time, this is the place. I can't wait for my sixth visit!

My colleague and I had lunch on Saturday, September 27th. We thought it was a very pleasant venue to get together. The menu is somewhat limited, but we didn't worry about it. The quality was great. We had double portions of the Lobster roll ( 2 each), the Duck leg, and the Scallops. Prepare to pay premium prices. We were seated at the counter which isn't convenient for personal conversations. ( hence 4 stars). The staff were very accommodating ( The manager (?) in the black suit and glasses was a typical and a professional host. Compliments to the Sommelier. Delightful wine list and the Medhurst Chardonnay 2024 ( Yarra Valley) was such a great accompaniment with the lobster rolls.

Friday night 5pm no reservation no problem. Grand Final eve so the vibe was great. Excellent Gin Martini served politely and professionally by Jez I think? Snake Bean side excellent, Prawn Toast and Lobster roll A1…. but what brought me to tears literally with some Umami taste stimulated dopamine hit …was a special dish of a Shark Bay WA Scallops. Seaweed butter torched on shell with some sort of Culinary Voodoo inspired seasoning it became immediately the most delicious thing I’ve eaten in decades. We hastily ordered another serve. Having been reviewed weekly in my own hospitality environment I am not prone to thrashing out reviews for reviews sake. Truly exceptional experience food and service.

My partner and I went to supernormal which is a Melbourne institution for Asian fusion. We sat at the bar/open kitchen and its great to see your food being cooked and plated right in front of you. Service and food where on point but in my opinion the dishes are overly sauces. Personally I just find my pallet in over driver after every dish. Don't get me wrong eveything was delicious! Do give this place a try~

Booked for dinner here for two having been a while back as part of a larger group and wanted to share the experience. I'd originally booked a table for 8:15 but managed to move it to a bar sitting at 7:00 which suited much better and the staff were very flexible with helping with that. It's a buzzing place and the one thing we made comment on was that there was just the incredible sound and atmosphere of people chatting and enjoying themselves, without any heavy overbearing music anywhere. Made it very easy to chat and enjoy and discuss everything we were eating. We went for the set menu option 1 so we could try a little of everything and have to say that overall it was outstanding. The only dish that seemed to lack a little in our opinion was the chicken, which unfortunately was the main course, although the selection of dishes we had been served up to then didn't make this a massive disappointment, and in fact we asked for the chicken to be packed to go with us. Desert was a wonderfully decadent dish and the perfect finish. Will definitely be looking to come here again and try a variety of other dishes.

Came here twice to celebrate my partner’s birthday! We had set menus and paired with amazing wines. Each dish presented very beautifully and tasted absolutely delicious. Oh the tiramisu…omg. It’s THE BEST I have ever had. Not mention the gorgeous luxurious interior you are surrounded while you’re eating. The service was 10 out of 10. Pure profession. Would love to be back again…

The food we had here was alright, felt like the flavours and seasoning weren’t as potent on the night we visited. However it was an unreal dining experience in terms of the quality of service we got here. Excellent team working the floor provided us with great insight on the dishes and made our stay here much more enjoyable. Bread was phenomenal tho.

We visited this restaurant to celebrate a friend's birthday and had a mostly pleasant experience. The entrées and antipasti were absolutely delicious, and the drinks were well-made. We really appreciated how attentive the two male servers were; one of them even noticed I didn’t enjoy my drink and kindly swapped it out for something I'd like better, which was a lovely touch. However, the experience did have some inconsistencies. While the mains were okay, the off-menu tiramisu we ordered for dessert was quite disappointing. It was overly sweet and didn’t have that classic espresso flavor we were hoping for. Additionally, the presentation was a bit messy. When we mentioned this feedback to another server, the response we received felt a bit dismissive, which was a noticeable contrast from the otherwise great service we had earlier in the evening. In the end, it left us a bit disappointed. Overall, we’d say it’s a place with some really good highlights, especially on the appetizer side and thanks to some of the staff who went above and beyond. But there’s definitely room for a bit more consistency in both desserts and service attitude.

I reserved my birthday dinner on 27/06 here seeing the good reviews. However, my experience did not reflect any of the above. First of all, I am not allowed to bring my birthday cake in to share, which if fine and when I asked whether I can bring it in to take a photo, the lady over the phone was very hesitant so I just didn’t bring the cake at all. We were warmly greeted in the beginning and the nightmare begin when we started ordering. The restaurant light was very dim and it made us a bit difficult to see the menu, when the waitress in the black frame glasses, brown hair, ponytail came up was the real nightmare. My parents don’t speak or read English very well. Hence, my brothers and I are translating for them. It was a bit difficult for us to translate as the menu was hard to read with the lighting and with all the Italian words. The waitress came up and she was very impatient she sped read through the menu and the special menu and just took off. The restaurant was not the most quiet and with all the Italian mixed in her spiel it was very hard to follow. She left after she did her spiel we were there left dumbfounded. Afterwards we decided to ask her whether there is any recommendations so we can order according to that. Again she was very impatient and rude. She also asked previously whether there is any allergy and I advised her I was allergic to mango. However, my mum didn’t feel like seafood that day so she advised me before we asked for her recommendation. She was in a very condescending tone stating:” you should’ve told me before this is why I asked you if there is any allergies.” I was too shocked to reply as I felt like I was being scolded like a child. I didn’t know not feeling like seafood and allergic to seafood falls into the same category. However, I continue to let her recommend, she again spoke at a ultra fast speed and said all the none seafood is on the special menu. When I asked where is the special menu she said it’s in her head. I do recommend that there is a physical special menu as I cannot understand a single word coming out of her mouth. She also had quite an unpleasant breath, which really affected the experience. A gentle reminder about personal oral hygiene could really help maintain the restaurant’s excellent standards. After ordering I was left feeling really disgusted by her attitude. I can’t believe this is the service coming from a chef hat award restaurant. The first dish took forever to arrive. A simple lemon lime bitters took 20 minutes to service. The time in between each dish is way too long. The ravioli was quite salty and when I mentioned the food was alright to that same female staff she was unhappy with my response and again very rudely said, “ what’s wrong” I had to say the ravioli was quite salty and she seemed very upset about it. The final wagyu was too raw for my parents. I was never asked how we prefer the wagyu to be cooked. I’m not sure whether we are never asked or there was not preference for how the wagyu is cooked. The duck was quite dry and hard to chew. We were never offered the dessert menu as well. In addition, I personally thought she was just having a bad day hence the attitudes. However, she also served the table behind us and because the tables are very close and she is very loud I can hear her voice. I found out she is capable to being respectable and nice to the two caucasian lady sitting behind her which leaves me wonder why here attitude is like this with us? I do hope it is not because of a racial preference. On the contrary, all the other staff I have encountered in the restaurant are very nice, respectable and patient, that’s why I gave one star for service. Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience and it was the worst birthday dinner I’ve ever had. The service really makes up a big part of the experience. Overall I would not recommend to any of my Asian friends out there or friends who doesn’t understand Italian as it seems like it is a prerequisite to understand Italian to order otherwise you will be looked down by the waitress.

Came here for dinner with a reservation and had the 'Gran Four' tasting menu which included seven dishes as well as some starter snacks, sourdough bread and pre-dessert palate cleanser which was not listed on the menu. Most of the dishes were very tasty; highlights were the scallops encased in a light crispy coating, the lobster risotto which has a condensed seafood and cheesy taste with a few big pieces of lobster to enjoy, and the duck tortellini which was rich and savoury with a nice al dente texture. The strawberry sorbet was also very good with a naturally sweet and refreshing taste. Service was friendly and attentive, each dish was explained in detail and the course took around two and a half hours to finish.

Dinner at Grossi Florentino was such a lovely experience. The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The service was friendly and professional without ever feeling over the top, and every course was full of flavour and care. The pasta was fresh and delicate, and the desserts were just beautiful. Argentinian restaurant
Steak house
San Telmo is an Argentinian restaurant located in the European end of Melbourne's CBD. The restaurant offers a menu focused on chargrilled meats and tapas-style plates, cooked on a traditional 2.5-metre-long parrilla grill. The ambiance is described as dimly-lit yet vibrant, reminiscent of the Argentinian Tango. San Telmo prides itself on its use of local O'Connor beef and offers a variety of seafood and land-based proteins.
Wow, wow, wow! This place was fantastic. Really high quality food and produce and worth every penny. The flavours in every bite were amazing and it was like a party in my mouth! The beef tartare was unmatched. The fresh herbs and silky egg yolk was truly a highlight. The crisps it came with were lightly salted and added just the right amount of flavour to an ideal mouthful. Another highlight was definitely the steak, it was so tender and juicy and just tasted so fresh. It literally melted in my mouth. The dessert was this light flan dressed in some peanut brittle and a caramel like sauce, and although it was rich I kept going back for more. My only tiny improvement would be to the immediacy of the service. As soon as my friend and I sat down, a floor staff member began reeling off specials and the way the menu works, without giving us a second to settle ourselves. Other than that, everything else was perfect.

We booked a couple hours ahead of time, recommend the seating inside on comfortable bar stools by the kitchen or down on the main floor. Service straight off the bat was exceptional and well organised. Atmosphere buzzing. We had a $125 set menu per person. Everything tasted amazing, our highlights were the ceviche, steak and dessert. A special thanks to our waitress, she clearly excels in the hospitality industry. We will definitely return, this is now our new favourite restaurant in Melbourne.

Finally tried San Telmo, after having been to Asado and Palermo (both from the same group) — so expectations were high for this one being the original spot. Starting off with the Solomillo (striploin) — nicely cooked with a solid char on the outside and a juicy interior. Could’ve used a touch more salt to deepen the flavour, but the chimichurri on the side brought a nice herbaceous lift that tied everything together. Texture-wise, it was tender enough, though not the most melt-in-your-mouth cut I’ve had. The Entraña (hanger steak) was where it fell short — unfortunately very chewy, to the point where it was hard to enjoy. Generous portion, but the texture really worked against it. The beef tartare was a solid dish — balanced in seasoning, not overly rich, with a nice freshness to it. Personally would’ve preferred a more vinegar-forward profile like a tataki-style seasoning instead of the slightly sweet dressing they used. Among the smaller plates, the provoleta stood out — bold, strong cheese flavour with that gooey centre and crisp edges, balanced nicely by the red chimichurri. The corn, onion & mozzarella empanada was good too, though it could’ve used a little more cheese filling to round it out. Didn’t love the calamari — texture was on the chewy side, though the dipping sauce helped. The chorizo had a great spice profile and snap, while the black sausage (morcilla) was more subtle and earthy — good to try once for something different. The papas (potatoes) were the weakest side — under-crisped and lacking the punch you’d expect from a parrilla-style grill. I’ve had better versions at Asado and Palermo, both in texture and flavour. Overall, San Telmo still brings that authentic Argentinian grill experience with its smoky meats and rustic feel, but the execution on some cuts and sides was uneven. When it hits, it’s good — but for the price, I’ve had tighter, more consistent dishes across the other venues in the group.

San Telmo feels timeless. The room glows softly, smoke rises from the grill, and the sound of meat hitting heat fills the space. This place doesn’t chase attention; it earns it. I’ve been coming here for years, and the food stays steady every time. The steak is the reason you come. Perfect crust, juicy inside, and seasoned by someone who understands beef. Other restaurants claim to serve Melbourne’s best steak, then fail to deliver. San Telmo never slips. It serves it right every time. The chimichurri cuts through the fat cleanly. The sides fit the meal. The staff keep things sharp and easy. San Telmo is an institution. When you want a proper steak in Melbourne, this is where you go.

📍@santelmomelbourne, Melbourne CBD We had an amazing time celebrating Ricardo's birthday with dinner at San Telmo, a famous Argentinian restaurant in the city that had been on our list to visit for a while 😍 Decided to get one of their set menu options and left super full and so happy with everything we tried. Highly recommend it for any special occasions or a treat yourself meal 🥰 We went with the "La Comilona" set menu and had the chance to try all these beautiful dishes, cooked right in front of us at their open kitchen: 🥟 Empanada Beef, olive, and egg 🐟 Ceviche Yellowfin tuna ceviche, avocado, capsicum tiger’s milk 🧀 Provoleta Fried provolone cheese, red chimichurri 🌭 Chorizo Spiced pork and paprika sausage 🖤 Morcilla Spiced black sausage 🥩 Ojo de Bife O’Connor’s premium pasture-fed rib eye 🥔 Papas Fried Sebago potatoes, Provençal herbs, lemon aioli 🥬 Lechuga Seasonal leaves, herbs, shallot, and merlot vinaigrette 🍮 Flan Dulce de leche crème caramel with salted peanut praline

Our waitress was Helena and she was incredible. Although the food is amazing, she made our experience that much better. She recommended items without being too pushy, she checked in on us for feedback throughout the meal, and was so pleasant to talk to. Overall this was our favorite dinner in Melbourne. Everything we ate was 10/10 (ceviche, fried broccoli, chorizo, wagyu porterhouse, potatoes, and flan)

Australian restaurant
Cutler & Co. is an upscale modern Australian restaurant located in an old metalworks factory, offering a tasting menu and a romantic dining experience. The restaurant features a moody yet sophisticated atmosphere with sleek metal and glass partitions, creating a unique dining space. The menu offers flexibility with options ranging from a five-course degustation to comfort food like dry-aged steak for two, paired with wines from an exemplary list focusing on small producers.
Cutler in Fitzroy is one of Melbourne’s most stylish dining experiences - modern yet warm, with a beautifully designed interior that blends industrial charm and luxe detailing. The clean lines, moody lighting, and leafy marble accents create a welcoming, sophisticated atmosphere. The service lives up to the hype too: warm, professional, attentive but never overbearing - guests are truly looked after . On to the food: Culatello ‘PROSCIUTTO’ with persimmon – an exquisite pairing of salty cured meat and sweet, fragrant persimmon. What a beautiful combination! TUNA on toast – super creative; the crème fraîche, bullhorn peppers and horseradish elevate it to a memorable dish. Burger – fantastic, exactly what you’d hope for in a gourmet setting. Chocolate GÂTEAU – rich and decadent, with dates working beautifully against the dark chocolate. Overall, Cutler offers brilliant food, from innovative small plates to comforting mains, set in a polished yet relaxed space with top-tier hospitality. Highly recommended.

This is my second time dining here and its remains one of my top restaurants in Melbourne. The waitstaff is always amazing, even though our waiter had only been working there for two weeks he was super professional and friendly. My favourite dishes from this visit were the whiting and the apple tart tartin, I would highly recommend getting these two dishes. I also appreciated there were lots of interesting mocktails to try. Would definitely recommend Cutler and Co for a fancy dinner and lovely evening.

My fiancé and I had the pleasure of dining at Cutler back in July. The food, service and ambiance were immaculate. We loved our experience so much that we are returning next month for our post elopement dinner. Special shout out to our server who never rushed us, gave us amazing recommendations (side of fries to dip in the sauce with the fish!) and was all around delightful.

A classic Andrew McConnell restaurant - great quality and consistent food. While the menu is never ground breaking, the consistency of quality and consistent execution is something to be marvelled We dined on the chefs menu which was very generous on portion sizing. Tuna entree was delicious, fresh and clean The main of steak could have had a much better sear. Pavlova for dessert you can’t go wrong. Service was lovely & wine list very good.

It became the best memory of our trip to Melbourne✨ All the staff were so kind and welcoming! Even about me bringing my little plush friend along🐰 One of them even asked for its name, which made me so happy🥹💗 The staff member who served our table had amazing knowledge of the menu, and we followed his recommendations — every dish was absolutely perfect for both me and my partner🍽️😊Especially, the duck we had...It was the bestes...🥰 From the moment we stepped inside to the moment we left, everything was just beyond words. Truly an unforgettable experience💖

Fine but uncomplicated dining, Cutler’s menu is elegant, delicious simplicity. The whiting and venison dishes were both lip-smacking, but our fave was the little bowl of humble anchovy & sage fritters. Like a fancy beer snack, I could’ve easily scoffed 50 of these tasty morsels alone! The space is gorgeous, an old metalworks factory with marbled walls & intimate candlelit booths. Service was seamless and attentive, with table crumbing between courses. Would definitely chomp again when next in Melbourne!

Dining at Cutler was an experience I won’t soon forget. From the moment we arrived, everything was seamless — warm, professional service, a beautifully designed space, and a menu that strikes the perfect balance between creativity and comfort. The ambiance is modern and elegant without feeling pretentious. Soft lighting, thoughtful décor, and just the right level of background music made it ideal for both conversation and relaxation. Now to the food — absolutely phenomenal. Each course was executed with precision and heart. The ingredients were clearly fresh and of high quality, and the flavor combinations were inventive yet familiar. I had the seared duck breast with roasted fig and truffle jus, and was blown away. Every bite was perfectly cooked and balanced. Even the sides and small touches, like the house-made bread and butter, were memorable. The service truly stood out — attentive without being intrusive. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and wine list, offered great pairing suggestions, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Cutler isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a dining experience. Whether you're celebrating something special or simply want a night of exceptional food and atmosphere, this place is a gem. Highly recommended.

Andrew McConnell’s flagship restaurant Cutler since inception 2009 has always been busy and bookings are always essential. Similar menu arrangement as cumulus, small bites to entrees moving on to mains and larger mains accompanied with sides. Degustation menu can be sampled to try his craftsmanship. Time of visiting the seating was quite dark although by the large front window dinning can be enjoyed thoroughly whilst watching the world go by on Gertrude St. Try the house warm donuts chives and salmon roe and sour cream. Mushroom pithivier. From the grill the O’Connor Sirloin cooked perfectly paired with glazed onions and condiments to enjoy with. Dessert the dark chocolate tart with liquorice and fromage Blanc you cannot go past to finish off. Great food but not too sold on half looking serves on the pithivier and tart.

Restaurant
Railway Club Hotel in Port Melbourne is a popular pub known for its casual atmosphere and polished wood decor. It's renowned as the original steak house of Melbourne, offering a range of grass-fed beef cuts such as rib eyes from Tasmania's Cape Grim Beef and dry-aged T-Bones. The menu features unique items not typically found in a bar setting, making it stand out among other pubs in Melbourne.
Had an excellent meal here! The steak was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender. They also offer a great variety of sides to complement the meal. The service was attentive without being overbearing. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing spot with delicious food and great hospitality!

Absolutely great steaks and meats. Cevapcici was full of flavour. Fast and friendly service. Prices $$$ but worth it for good cuts of meat. We sat in the main bistro area. Loud. If you want a quieter area, best to call and ask for advice. Decent wine list, but also $$$

Best steak in town!! They have great selection of wine as well as steak. Caramelize carrot is must try for starter. I ordered rump and they cooked it perfectly and goes great with mustard. I will definitely recommend to anyone visiting Melbourne for a great dinner.

Great steak, perfectly cooked! I had the beef and reef and it was absolutely amazing, the flavors were spot on and the portion was generous. The desserts were also delicious, especially the crème brûlée creamy with the right crunch on top. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the staff were attentive and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. I heard from my friends that they didn’t really enjoy the mocktails, but the beers were ice cold and great. Overall, definitely a place I’d come back to for a nice meal.

Just recently moved to the area and have been trying out all the local pubs. Wednesday steak day and the place was pumping. Restaurant was full, bar area a few seats available yet empty outside. Admittedly it was cool but the sun was out and it's a covered area. For you Melbournites should of been like Summer. Inside the pub was very nice, very pleasant staff but we sat outside. To the food! Orderered the steak, considering it was cheap as chips Steak day. One medium and one medium rare with a mushroom sauce and a brandy peppercorn sauce. The medium rare steak was closer to medium and the medium was closer to medium well, but still nice tasty steak. The sauces were a little on the watery side. The chips/wedges were beautiful but could have been hotter. The salad was well dressed and better than most places that usually just serve green leaves as a salad. Overall for the price ($24), I'd have it again. Definitely will come back to dine in the restaurant section as the Chateaubriand and Fillet Mignon is calling me.

Our final meal in Melbourne last Saturday night was a banger – and a massive shoutout to mate, Tom, for the recommendation (and to me for the hours of obsessive research haha).⁣ ⁣ The Railway Club Hotel @railwayclubhotel was hands down Tom’s best suggestion to date – I’m calling it: the best steak I’ve ever eaten. Full stop.⁣ ⁣ This trip was all about celebrating my birthday with the boys and enjoying one last chill weekend before the big move, and dinner at RCH was the perfect grand finale – especially after catching the absolutely brilliant Beetlejuice musical (seriously, go see it).⁣ ⁣ 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐮𝐧-𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧:⁣ ⁣ 🥩 Tom ordered the Cape Grim Porterhouse ⁣ 🥩 Gary went with the Rissoles and Smoked Bacon⁣ ⁣ 🥩 And I devoured the Bass Strait Eye Fillet with their Brandy Peppercorn Sauce – and I swear, it cut like butter and tasted like heaven.⁣ ⁣ If you’re ever in Melbourne, do yourself a massive favour and dine at the Railway Club Hotel. You can thank me later.⁣

Fine dining restaurant
Restaurant
Attica, located in Australia, is a highly acclaimed restaurant known for its inventive tasting menus and select wines. The dining experience at Attica is far from typical fine dining, with a casual vibe and an eclectic menu featuring unique dishes like emu liver parfait, kelp-wrapped marron, and crocodile ribs. The restaurant underwent a comprehensive renovation in 2017 and now offers a more comfortable atmosphere with new dishes that highlight little-known native Australian ingredients.
Brought my family here for a meal and it was 10/10. The use of local Australian ingredients was nicely imagined. All the dishes had the right flavor and punch. The service here was the highlight. The staff and servers were very welcoming, and when they saw that one of my daughters did not like the dish they came and offered to change up some of the ingredients and served the dish again. The theater of the dining was also nicely incorporated into the three hour meal. At the end of the meal, the chocolate cart was a favorite among my daughters. Congrats to chef Ben and the team for a job well done

Attica was a very special experience. It was more than just a meal, it was more of an experience, where you are taken on a journey through their meals. The service was spot on, allowing ample time to enjoy each meal and rest in between. The meals were impeccable, they took extra care to ask about my dietary requirements, ensuring to clarify each meal was allowed for and I didn't feel I missed out at all as they simply modified the meal so I could still enjoy the full experience. I would highly recommend it you are seeking a special meal out.

First time dining at Attica, loved every minute of it. Love that it was able to accommodate a celiac (not all fine dining even at an equivalent price point do) wait staff very attentive and knowledgeable. Only regret is not remembering to take a photograph of the lasagna dish. If I had to offer a critique (really splitting hairs) it maybe had a bit too many other diners but 1) I dined on a Friday and 2) even so not enough that it impacted my enjoyment that I would not want to come again.

After trying to get a table for a long time, my partner managed to get one for us for my birthday. We could not have had a better experience. The staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable and attentive. The food was amazing and lived up to everything I had heard. I would love to have a bag of the saltbush, while we love everything the stand out dishes were the lasagne and marron. While it is not a cheap dinner, it was definitely worth the price. I look forward to returning in the future.

What an unforgettable experience at @atticamelbourne. Every course felt like a love letter to Australian produce — delicate, deeply considered, and bursting with flavour. The way they hero local ingredients, especially those inspired by and honouring First Nations food traditions, is truly something special. The service was nothing short of impeccable — warm, intuitive, and deeply passionate. You can feel how much heart goes into every plate, every pairing, every story shared across the table. It’s more than just dining; it’s storytelling through food. A celebration of Australia — its land, its people, its spirit. Absolutely world-class.

Recommended by a chef friend from Singapore, I had high expectations — and Attica more than delivered! The opening snacks were exceptional, setting the tone for a meal which is full of surprises — including some adventurous native proteins (I'll keep it a secret!). A highlight was the visit to their kitchen garden, where we enjoyed fresh Tasmanian mushrooms — such a thoughtful and unique touch with apple juice too :) The entire evening lasted around three hours, but it never felt long — each course brought something new and engaging. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere felt both relaxed and refined. If you're in Melbourne, Attica is absolutely worth a stop. You'll leave full, inspired, and with a deeper appreciation for Australian ingredients. Huge thanks to the team!

Venison-like Crocodile fillet, kangaroo meat, ants 🐜 deserts … all these ingredients are original from Australian and hard to find in other counties. Attica is the one must try in Melbourne for foodies and those curious about trying new types of dishes.

3rd time back and Attica did not disappoint. They delivered an unforgettable dining experience that exceeded all expectations. The food was simply phenomenal — creative, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavour in every course. The service was warm, attentive, and seamless throughout the night, striking the perfect balance between professionalism and genuine hospitality. The ambiance was intimate and inviting, creating the ideal setting for a special celebration. We were there to mark a 70th birthday, and the team went above and beyond to make it feel truly personal and memorable. Every detail felt considered, and we couldn't have asked for a better evening.

What a lovely view and restaurant! It was quite beautiful and was so cool to see the beach from our seats. The food was amazing the fish and chips were huge (the size of my hands, my hands are pretty big) Anyways the peanut butter espresso martini was one of the best espresso martinis I’ve ever had so. Also the staff was so nice and wonderful. Please go highly recommend.

I have been going to Republica once a week for over a year now, as they are partners with the Social Volleyball event. I always get the same items from the menu: pepperoni or brisket pizza, fried chicken and chips. The beer is always cold, the service is quick and the casual vibe during summer time is what you want. I should add a mention to the salmon tartare, really good.

Perfect spot by the beach to unwind. The fried chicken was hands-down the best I’ve had in a while — crispy, juicy, and full of flavour. Paired it with fish & chips, which were fresh and satisfying. Cold beer, ocean breeze, and great vibes made it an ideal St Kilda afternoon.

Entrecôte is a lively and stylish restaurant located in South Yarra, near the Royal Botanic Gardens. The bistro features vintage light fittings, potted plants, and burgundy velvet banquettes, creating an approachable and unstuffy atmosphere.
An absolutely wonderful restaurant! I had bookmarked it for a long time and finally got the chance to try it. The prices here are on the higher side, but every bit of it was worth it. I was especially impressed by the server who took care of our table that evening—unfortunately, I forgot to ask for their name. Their service was truly exceptional, full of warmth and enthusiasm. Every dish I ordered was recommended by them, and each one turned out to be fantastic. On top of that, the restaurant also had live music, which made the atmosphere even more delightful. Overall, this place is truly outstanding.

Will be coming back! Absolutely stunning venue that's larger than it looks from the outside! We sat in the courtyard which was definitely the pick, main dining area was extremely loud. Food was delicious, I ordered French Onion Soup and the steak frites. Was extremely full and portions were generous. I really want to try the desserts, they looked amazing!
Natasha C — Google review
The Atmosphere is really fantastic and we had great service for a large group of eight. The food is also good, but competition at this price point is high. Steak was delicious but entrees are nearly all cold dishes, which was unexpected. French fries were excellent. Wine list is strong but priced high.
Tim S — Google review
First impression: the interior decor is fabulous. It feels like stepping into a venue in Paris, with high ceilings, sumptuous textures and finishes, and elegant waiters in suits. The space extends into a beautiful long bar area on the upper level with a charming courtyard-style seating area. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining. Most tables are small and round, paired with classic woven French-style chairs that add to the Parisian charm. The food is good, with the signature dish being the entrecôte (steak and fries). Service is brisk, perhaps a little too brisk for such an intimate setting. With three maitre d’s managing different areas, it felt a bit rushed. No one explained the menu or à la carte options, and they did not ask how many people were sharing desserts- felt we over ordered. A more thoughtful touch would have made the experience feel more personal. Overall, it was a lovely experience. I would definitely come back to try more dishes and entrees. Great place for romantic dates ;)

This resteraunt was gorgeous. We dined in the dining room. With the perfectly dimly lit table, live piano amd exceptional service, this place has to be the best resteraunt we have ever been too. We ordered the signature steak and that was better than we could have imagined. Perfect evening to celebrate my birthday.
Tamara M — Google review
Food was lovely but the service is extremely terrible. Firstly, the table was really small. A table for two can barely fit two plates of steak and one bowl of salad without having to scuffle things each time. After they sat us down, they immediately handed over the drink menu which is a heavy, hard cover book that we can't even put on the table because the cutleries are all set with the plates that filled the whole surface. We haven't even finished reading the drinks menu when they brought us the food menu which is as big as the drink book, when clearly there isn't enough space on the table and we're already struggling flipping over the drinks menu in the thin space between the table and my legs. But the waitstaff didn't care — he just forced the book to us and left us there with 4 books on our hands where we are clearly struggling to hold those and flip at the same time. The menu book handed to us was only the course menu. I expected this but I saw that the table of 4 sitting next to us was also handed over a piece of paper that looks like an a la carte menu, so I asked the waitstaff "what menu is that" in case we're allowed to do a la carte or if thats a 'today's special' type of stuff. The waiter—in a very patronising way—said these word per word: "they are special, just ignore that. You can only choose the course menu." It really came off as rude and dismissive as I'm only asking what menu that is, I didn't even ask him to bring me that piece of paper. I also saw some other people left reviews on here that said they're forced to do courses, and obviously there are some guests being treated as 'special' and didn't even bother to explain to you. When all the courses came out, the waitstaff only stood there slightly extending the plates, clearly waiting for us to take the plates from his hand and settle it on the table ourselves. Again the table is extremely small so we always have to scuffle things while he stares at us, not even helping to put down the plates. I saw that another table near us also needed to take the plates themselves from the waitstaff's hand as she's only standing beside the table and waited until they do so—whether this information is relevant or not, both of our tables are Asian. The whole experience leaves a sour taste that the $260 I spent there is not even worth a thing. Won't be coming here again. It's unfortunate because the food was lovely.
Seukhye K — Google review
I really wanted to love this place 🍽️🇫🇷 The setting is beautiful and the food itself was genuinely delicious with fresh beef tartare & foie gras. Unfortunately, the service completely ruined the experience. During service, the head host was shouting at another staff member in the middle of the dining room about seating arrangements. It was uncomfortable to watch and especially awkward as I was dining alone… she kept looking my way while complaining about how “stupid” it was to seat someone in a particular way??? 🤨 It’s such a shame because the food was beautifully presented and the Le Conservatoire space is stunning, especially on a rainy day. But the unprofessional behaviour from management made it hard to enjoy any of it. Sadly, I wouldn’t come back.
Kaya E — Google review
After hearing mixed reviews about Entrecôte in recent years, I was a bit dubious about dining there again. However after a delightful meal at GiGi's, their sister restaurant, I decided to take the plunge. I was glad to see the quality l'd become accustomed to at their South Yarra location all those years ago was still there. I tried the Mitraillette baguette and it completely exceeded my expectations. The Rangers Valley Black Market beef is incredibly tender and full of flavour, and the crisp frites inside add just the right amount of texture without taking over. The baguette has the perfect balance of chew and crunch and holds everything together beautifully. For those of you who are familiar with Entrecôte, their signature sauce needs no introduction. The Secret Herb Butter Sauce ties everything together with a silky, savoury finish that soaks into the bread just enough to feel indulgent without getting messy. Despite not being the most photogenic of the offerings their refined take on a classic steak sandwich is the perfect way to sample the best of Entrecôte when you've got a tight schedule. Rich, satisfying and a little bit bougie, it's absolutely worth trying.

Very cozy and comfortable family restaurant / pub establishment. Wide selection of beef steaks and cooked really well. Nice fish and tender calamari options. Finally had dinner here and we enjoyed! The oysters and calamari entree were fresh - would definitely order them again. Mains: The burger was good. Nice chips. I ordered the porterhouse with a side of bone marrow and it was tender. Nice tender fat on the steak. Ordered the side of bone marrow, and omg so tasty. Glad we ordered that! The food here is good. I will sit in the bar next time as more of a relaxed vibe and you can order on the app. We dined early so the service was great at the start of the night, but our plates were not cleared and we were not offered any desserts or extra drinks in the dining area. Friendly service, but more clearing/ waiting staff definitely needed. We headed to the bar for a couple of extra drinks. friendly service. Will definitely be back though, had a nice night with fresh food.

Started coming here 4 years ago when my wife and I moved to the West. Station Hotel served as a no frills pub with quality steaks, albeit at a slightly higher price points and has been very consistent over the last 3.5 years. We would come here once every couple of months. However over the last couple of visits, standards have become very inconsistent, particularly with the cook of the steak. Have attached 3 photos in chronological order. 4th September We visited most recently on 4th September where it is very apparent that the steak was not appropriately charred. When feedback was given to the wait staff, they asked what doneness did you ask for (medium rare). Yes it was cooked medium rare but the obvious lack of char is apparent, and the meat might as well have been boiled. Wait staff followed up by asking "would you like it put back on the grill". I said all good, but that was the moment where I decided to stop giving the place a chance. Funnily enough we heard another table complaining about their steak doneness as well. 31st July Steak ordered medium rare but came out blue with steak left unfinished. Feedback was provided online. 13th June Ordered a medium rare rib-eye on the bone but unfortunately the rib cap (best part of the rib eye) was obliterated. Feedback was given on the spot and we were offered complimentary drinks and a small gesture thereafter. Appreciate that my comments might sound like first world problems, but when you're paying 60 to 100 per person for steak, you'd expect to get your money's worth. It's a shame as this placed used to be our go to. A no frills steak spot that was exceptional in quality and worth the premium price. Unfortunately this is no longer the case and we will not be returning.

Ordered a scotch fillet that was unfortunately very chewy and almost inedible. While the meal itself was disappointing, the service was outstanding! Staff handled the situation with genuine care, explained the issue, and went well beyond what we expected to ensure we left satisfied. Their exceptional response transformed what would have been a 2/5 experience into a 4/5 and has earned them another chance.

Great steakhouse in Melbourne! 🥩✨ I really enjoyed the experience here – the atmosphere is cozy, modern, and perfect for a good meal. The bread served as an appetizer was excellent, warm with a nice crust and paired well with the spread. I ordered the 300g steak, grilled beautifully to medium with a juicy pink center. The cut was tender, flavorful, and came with a delicious garlic-based sauce that complemented the meat perfectly. Portion size was just right and satisfying. Considering the quality, the prices are very reasonable for Melbourne. Definitely a place worth visiting if you love good steaks and a relaxed dining vibe.

We were referred to Meat Maiden by a Melbourne resident. Made reservations and were seated promptly. Our server, Ken, explained the ala carte menu as well as the Maiden’s Mood selections, which we ended up ordering. For $100 AUD, we had an amazing selection of 5 servings and 2 sides. We were a party of 3, but it definitely was enough for 4 people. Had a nice selection of wine that Ken recommended along with some smoky old fashioned. Def the best meal we had in Melbourne during our 5 days. Ken was amazing, kept a constant eye on our table. Great conversation with him and we never felt rushed. Hope to go again on our next visit. Pics of food and my shirt after we ate.

We had a great experience and the food was amazing! The atmosphere is very intimate and the service was 10/10. They will always come and check to see if everything was ok and they knew how to make our anniversary special. We ordered Maidens mood which comes with 7 dishes and every dish we had was amazing! Our only regret is that we couldn’t finish everything, it was definitely worth it. I would highly recommend coming here for a date night or with a group. Thank you for having us! We will be back in the future.

I was very excited to visit Meatmaiden and I wish I could say it lived up to expectations but it didn’t. I’ll start with some positives with the food, we had the Maidens mood chefs selection. All pretty good nothing stood out or really grabbed you as amazing. The steak was pretty good but if you can’t get a good scotch fillet in a steak house you are in trouble. Some negatives with the food was a brisket dish, what was it doing there? Not really sure it was not smoked it was more like boiled meat. We would not of even missed it if it wasn’t there it sort of ruined the taste in your mouth with some sort of cheap bbq sauce. As for the staff I’m sorry guys but your managers need to have a good hard look here. We were 10 minutes early and instead of saying no worries guys would you like a drink at the bar or please sit here till we are ready. It was instead looking at us like we had 2 heads. The people serving had no personality at all. The waiter who was bringing our food didn’t say a word, couldn’t tell us what we were eating. It was actually horrible and we have been in 100s of restaurants around Victoria and this is right up there as one of the worst. One lady come over to fill my wine and I said hello how are you and she just looked at me with a frown. Sorry guys you won’t see us again. I think your managers could change all of this pretty easily but till then I won’t be suggesting anyone go here.

Amazing steakhouse in the heat of the CBD... Highly recommended. Steaks were cooked to perfection and the sides complimented the perfectly. Staff were friendly and attentive. Overall venue is perfectly and the ambiance was calming.

Visited Melbourne on my honeymoon and was looking for a good steak restaurant to celebrate. Pleased to say we found the best steak restaurant. Best service we have had in a long time (thanks to our waiter Ken), amazing atmosphere and food that is to die for. Can’t wait for our next trip to Melbourne just so we can visit again. As steak lovers this is a must!
Gabi K — Google review
The steaks are obviously amazing, but the rest of the menu is no slouch either. We've been here twice now and got the beef tartare both times. The bone marrow, though it looked interesting, didn't excite us so much. I'm looking forward to trying the burnt ends next time. The menu can definitely do with some more vegetables to break up the meat, but that might just be a personal preference. I would also love more mocktail/non-alcoholic drink options, as I'm the designated driver 😂 The lighting is a little dark for reading the small text on the menu, so we had to use our phone torches, but otherwise makes for lovely ambience.

I had a fantastic experience at Meatmaiden Melbourne. The food was excellent, the grilled bread with cowboy butter and the wagyu tartare were absolute standouts for me. Every dish was well-prepared and full of flavour. Definitely worth the price point. The space is a little on the tight side, but the overall atmosphere still felt lively and enjoyable. Service was great too, the staff were lovely and attentive. I’ll definitely be coming back for another meal.

One of the Best restaurants in Melbourne! Came here for my birthday 🎂 and I'm so glad I did! Selenia served are table she was very professional and so friendly 😊 Stunning gorgeous views! Food that is cooked and prepared artistically and tastes divine. Specially when paring with the wine combo. Great atmosphere very relaxed and high end.

Honestly one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Melbourne. We started with the caviar oysters, absolutely unreal, and finished with the steak which was cooked to perfection. Every single thing on the plate felt thoughtful and properly done. Our host for the night, Jazzy, honestly made the whole experience even better. The customer service was next-level genuine, funny, and just one of those people who clearly loves what they do. You could tell they cared about making sure everything was perfect, and they really pulled it off. Between the food, the view, and the way we were looked after, it was the kind of night that just feels special from start to finish. If you’re thinking of booking it do it. You’ll get an amazing meal, an even better view, and if you’re lucky enough to get Jazzy as your host, you’ll be looked after better than anywhere else in Melbourne.

Had an incredible dining experience at Eureka 89! We went for the Signature 8-Course Tasting Menu and every single dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious from the first bite of the starter all the way through to dessert. The balance of flavours and creativity in each course made it a memorable evening. The service was just as impressive as the food. The waitresses, Ashley and Ciara, were warm, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect throughout the night. Their professionalism and friendliness really elevated the whole experience. Between the amazing food, outstanding service, and stunning views over Melbourne, Eureka 89 is definitely a must-visit for anyone looking for a fine dining experience to remember.

The food itself was pretty mediocre. Best tasting thing was the coconut mojito. The 360° view is good but the glare from the lighting ruins it. They need to tone down the lights. Don't waste your money here - just go to the skydeck bar on level 88 instead and relax with a few drinks before or after a better dinner somewhere else.

A memorable fine dining experience with breathtaking views of Melbourne. The 6pm seating in October was perfect for the sunset. The Hiramasa Kingfish and Valley Lamb were both exceptional. Attentive, friendly staff and complimentary Skydeck access made the night even more special.

Me and my partner dined here at last Friday. We booked for our anniversary. It was an incredible experience. We had 6 courses. My favourite was cod. The sauce is amazing. Our lovely waitress Zimo was very sweet. The white wine she recommended was so good. Will come back for next anniversary. Thanks for everything

Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Prahran, L'Hotel Gitan is a stylish art deco restaurant and bar that effortlessly blends modern French cuisine with a relaxed atmosphere. Under the guidance of Jacques Reymond and his family, this contemporary gastropub offers an inviting bistro vibe complemented by an open kitchen where culinary magic unfolds. The menu features classic dishes like Cassoulets, steak Frites, and Gratins, all paired beautifully with a curated selection of French wines.
Absolutely loved this place French Bistro! Located in South Yarra in a very quaint old pub. Service was lovely, complete with a French accent, menu was amazing and the wine list was extensive. Nice to see you can order half bottles, particularly when my partner only wanted beer!! Unfortunately my photo of the beef bourguignon didn’t come out.. but it was absolutely delicious. Perfect for a cold night! Atmosphere was lovely, I think the old school setting made it more cozy compared to new sterile restaurants… highly recommend.
Raelene R — Google review
For the Food and Wine Festival they attempted a Yum Cha Á la Française. If you’re looking for value for money, you came to the right place: a large amount of food for $89! It was an amazingly strong start out of the gate with the Beef Tartare XO sauce: honestly the best tartare I’ve ever tasted; the XO flavour combined with the beef and egg yolk was exquisite. The deceptively insignificant looking Prawn Toast was also a standout and an excellent interpretation of the whole concept of a French Yum Cha, well done! (I never choose this at our normal Yum Cha place as I’m not a fan). The French Onion dumplings were nice enough, a bit bland as was the Beef bourguignon bun. The filling was dry and the bun part undercooked. The rotisseried chicken that followed was moist and tender. The salted fish rice with frozen veg had virtually no flavour. Dessert was definitely not for me. We arrived during a busy period and were looking forward to a leisurely meal (I believe we were entitled to a two hour session). However, they just kept pumping the courses out and when I asked if they could Please slow down, the answer was a straight out NO. I even suggested that they give the food to another table; after all, we’re all eating the same thing. The entire 5 course meal was done and dusted within 40 minutes of walking in the door.

Loved this place! Would definitely recommend it. Hubby and I went for his birthday and we will return to try the rest of the menu. Food was incredible as we did try a few things. The lamb was flavoursome and decent portions too. So nice to see classic techniques, dishes, and just all round great cooking. Charlene was amazing…excellent customer service. Thank you.

The classic French bistro run well is alive and well judging by the full house inside and on the terrace! The food is excellent, simple tasty and high quality! Service is friendly, efficient with a French touch! Book well in advance and enjoy a fun night out on the town. Overall value was good, but not sure about the tipping system or are we pushing for an American system? I hope not…..

Attended the inaugural Yum Cha a la Française at L'Hotel Gitan as part of the Melbourne Food & Wine festival and it was great – delicious and innovative with dishes including Duck a l'Orange Wontons and French Onion Xiaolongbao. Some items were so popular, such as the Brioche Prawn Toast, I hear the kitchen will revisit them regularly, c'est bon!

Italian restaurant
Takeout Restaurant
Osteria Ilaria is the ideal spot for a second date, offering a casual yet stylish ambiance where you can bond over wine, shared snacks, and delectable pasta. It's not your typical Italian restaurant; it ventures into modern Italian cuisine with dishes like smoked eel, beef sirloin, and barbeque pork neck. The interior exudes a modernist vibe reminiscent of a wine cellar, making it perfect for those seeking an unexpected dining experience.
My husband and I dined here tonight and had the best experience. The food was amazing with locally sourced ingredients. We were lucky enough to sit at the chefs table and enjoyed watching the them do their thing and chatting to them. It just added to the whole experience, thank you The tortellini and the stracciatella were our favourites ! We will be back :)
Shikha L — Google review
Great service and nice spot but the food was mediocre. Out of all our dishes, the tiny mushroom croquettes were the most flavourful. The desserts were nothing great—with the truffle flavour really offsetting the pumpkin mousse in a bad way.
P G — Google review
We had such a wonderful dining experience at Osteria Ilaria. The wait staff were incredibly accommodating, friendly, and genuinely caring. They took the time to explain the chef’s specials in detail and offered thoughtful recommendations, which made us feel very well looked after. We decided to go with the Chef’s Selection, and it was an excellent choice. The menu offered a generous variety – two entrees, two starters, two mains with a side, and two desserts – all perfectly paced so each dish arrived at just the right moment. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavour, but the standout for us was the Wagyu rump steak. It was cooked to perfection – wonderfully crisp on the outside while staying rare and tender in the centre. Absolutely outstanding. Overall, a fantastic experience from start to finish. Great service, an impressive menu, and food that truly delivers on quality. Highly recommended.
LoveEat L — Google review
My friend took me here for my birthday after hearing good things, but honestly left pretty disappointed. For the price you pay, the food and execution just didn’t deliver. Mushroom Croquette (2.5/5) – Looked promising but was bland. Hardly any mushroom flavour came through, and overall it tasted quite flat. Tuna Crudo (4/5) – This dish had a pleasant salt and citrus balance once mixed properly. At first, eating the top layer alone was too salty, but when combined, it came together quite well. King Prawn Tagliolini (2/5) – Easily the biggest letdown. The prawns were overcooked, tough, and dry, missing that sweet, juicy bite. The pasta was also overdone, lacking that proper al dente texture. The flavour was okay, but that’s about it. Sher Wagyu (4/5) – The saving grace of the night. Nicely cooked with a good beef flavour, and the lemon sauce with a hummus-like texture actually worked well. But serving it with just three stems of broccolini felt lazy for the price point. By the end, we skipped dessert; the prices and limited choices, combined with the underwhelming experience, just didn’t feel worth it. Overall, the dishes looked good but didn’t live up to expectations. For a birthday dinner, it felt more disappointing than special.

We had an absolutely lovely experience our first time here on Wednesday 22nd while our second time left a lot to be desired. On our first visit, Alice was wonderful. Very attentive and explained everything very well. Our water and wine glasses were always full and nothing was missed. I don’t remember the sommelier’s name (I’m sorry for that), but she was wonderful as well. Perfect evening.. The food is good here, an Australian touch on classic Italian dishes. Our second time here on Friday 24th Completely different! Service left a lot to be desired. 1. I was given a dirty plate that seemed like it still has butter and some sauce on it (mistakes happen) 2. We had to ask a waiter if we could have our wine that was on ice in a bucket not far from us after we had finished our cocktails For context : you don’t have your individual ice buckets, but a communal ice bucket. The pouring is done by the server. We’ve seen this at many places in Australia. 3. Empty wine glasses more than once (if the wine was on our table we would’ve poured it ourselves) not being precious at all here. 4. Empty bottle of water with no one replacing it. 5. Pouring wine or water from behind the customer on the right but placing cutlery by crossing the customer in the front! Now it’s one thing if there is no waiter passing by your table and therefore you understand that it’s busy and you’re going to have to wait, but not in our case. The waiter who was serving our table actually passed us more than once on some occasions and didn’t bother until I actually had to ask another waiter if we could have our wine and he alerted our waiter, same for more water. This place is getting a 4 star only because of Alice and our sommelier on Wednesday 22nd October.

Had the set menu, gorgeous restaurant, yummy food, with the set menu it was very well priced. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our time here. The Juniper Meringue, Buffalo Milk and Blackcurrant Gelato was the greatest desert I have ever eaten !! It’s part of the set menu, get it!!

Came here for my friend’s birthday two weeks ago. The food portions were pretty small for the price, and the oysters weren’t that fresh. The total bill was 230 for 4 girls but we weren't full lol. The service was nice though! I’d say this place is better if you just want a cozy spot to grab some drinks and chill with friends after work, not really for a proper dinner.
Tuệ M — Google review
TLDR; Amazing, so give it a try! We went there for dinner and they did not disappoint, atmosphere was great, service was greater and food was amazing. For snacks: Porcini Mushroom Croquette, Crisp Potato, Amaebi Prawn Tart & Beef Tartare. For starters: Salmon Carpaccio, Stracciatella (my fav), Pappa al pomodoro cabbage and an Iberico Pork Dish (amazing) For mains: Tagliolini with King Prawns and Wagyu Rump with Potatoes and Brussels Dessert: Olive oil Ricotta Panna Cotta (i think) and a chocolate mousse. Honestly, everything was great so just go!

Nice vibe, but come back in summer. Lovely outside area in summer but during winter the magic is a little lost as limited menu, most chairs packed away and order inside. Feel like a few patio heaters, being able to order thru the qr code and a bit of music would make it a great sunny winters day spot. Inside area looks lovely. Decent food but snack menu only during winter. Friendly service. Nice view of the beach directly in front.

Had an awesome time at Sebastian Williamstown! The place has such a nice vibe right by the beach. super bright and relaxing, perfect for just hanging out and enjoying the view. We ordered steak, roast chicken, fries, and a couple of sides, and honestly everything tasted great. The steak was juicy, chicken was tender, and even the fries with their dip hit the spot. Service was EXCELLENT and made us feel really welcome. Definitely a spot I’d come back to whenever I'm visiting Melbourne!

In all, food was good! Portions sizes were adequate (although my Spanish bf was a bit sad the croquettes were so small but so flavourful). Fish and steak were good! Patatas bravas were nice but came to us room temperature, otherwise nice and crunchy! Nice atmosphere, bit more mid/upper class right along the beach.

Builders Arms Hotel, located on Fitzroy's iconic Gertrude Street, is a relaxed and perennial landmark offering reimagined local meals and desserts along with a robust wine list. This corner pub has a rich history dating back to 1853 and has been transformed by restaurateur Andrew McConnell into the perfect blend of old and new.
We’ve been to this restaurant a few times now, and every visit has been consistently great. The burgers are absolutely delicious juicy, flavorful, and always paired with quality chips. The Cos salad is my go-to side fresh, crisp, and perfectly dressed. The steak is also impressive, cooked just right and full of flavor. The service really stands out too; the staff are well-trained, friendly, and make you feel welcome every time. Highly recommend!

Everything was good. The standout dishes were definitely the focaccia and the anchovy on toast. The burger was pretty good as well. I was recommended the seafood pie, but it wasn't really to my taste. The steak was alright, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to order it again. The starters are definitely a great choice here.

Half a Chook Tuesday We went along to the special night and were presented with a beautifully cooked chook that was tender and had flavour. Considering the number of people that also rolled up this was a credit to the staff. The service friendly and atmosphere a bit rowdy but thoroughly enjoyable! How else would you like your pub?! It was busy so I suggest you book. Thank you for a lovely experience.

The establishment's interior exudes grandeur while embracing New York hospitality. Known for its wood-fired cooking, Angus & Bon experiments with flavors even in salads and cocktails.

Staff were friendly and helpful, our waitress was so lovely I didn't have the heart to tell her how terrible our 'well done' steak was, it was more like rare. Poor form chef. The rest of the food was nice but not brag worthy.

The Steak Night on Tuesdays is a ripper! The steak was seared to perfection with charred smokiness yet remaining juicy and moist inside. The portion was generous too. The fries were excellent too. Crispy and you can actually taste the goodness of the potato. The salad however could be less salty. The sauce had a delicate flavour and I would have loved to have it a little less runny so it hangs better on the steak. The service was responsive and delightful. The Steak Night is popular and booking is recommended. A warm cosy place that is perfect to enjoy a good steak on a cold rainy night.

Been wanting to find a good steakhouse for a while and stumbled upon Angus & Bon since I’ve heard this restaurant through word of mouth but wasn’t sure whether it was worth the hype till I came to try myself. Gosh this place took my mouth by surprise!!! All the dishes tasted perfect 😭 definitely one of the best restaurants I’ve had in Melbourne for a while. ORDERED: 🥩 Rangers Valley Black Onyx: 250g rump cap 3+, grain fed ($52.00) 🥩 Butcher's steak ($135.00) 🧅 Beer battered onion rings ($14.00) 🥔 Crispy duck fat potatoes: salt & vinegar, dill, ranch ($18.00) 🦞 Creamy lobster mash: lemon, garlic, herb butter ($38.00) 🥬 Iceberg wedge salad: blue cheese dressing, bacon, chives ($16.00) This was $150.00 for my portion here, which included a lemon lime bitter! 🍹 REVIEW: ⭐ My standout points: 1. The service. You're treated well, the people are engaging (especially the waiter who took our order) and the friendly smiles of everyone who serviced our table. 😊 3. Food was great. I liked the savoury crust of the steak and it satiated my meat craving. It was also nice to get 2 sauce options (instead of 1) for the butchers steak, and free mustard service! Hot mustard is my favourite! 🥸 Chimichurri was also my preferred sauce between mushroom sauce & truffle butter. 4. Interior is gorgeous. Intimate vibes, lots of greenery where we sat kept things really vibrant and welcoming. 🪴 ⬆️ The iceberg wedge salad grew on me. At first, the blue cheese was intimidating. However it became an interesting, nice break from the richness of the meat. Then when we got overwhelmed (cue: meat sweats), getting to the 'undressed' parts of the iceberg actually gave a refreshing tone that was much needed. The most questionable side for me is the creamy lobster mash. I understand it is one of the standout favourites. However does it really work if the flavour of lobster is so subtle where the rich creaminess of the mash overwhelms it every time? 🤔 The lobster meat definitely helped bring back some of the sweetness but I'm not entirely convinced if this can go up and tango with the forward taste of meat. 💃

We loved this place! Great service, lovely venue, perfect lighting and atmosphere, nice cocktails and wines and absolutely delicious food. I highly recommend trying the prawn and lobster donuts — they were the highlight of our meal!

Came here for the second time and my partner and I had an exceptionally amazing dinner. Unfortunately couldn’t catch the waiters names but a lovely Dutch lady and a German gentleman were fantastic. Not only great service, but very kind & friendly. Food was delicious as always. The seafood spaghetti was divine!!! The fried chicken is our absolute favourite, best we’ve ever had & we took some to go as well. Been to many fine dining restaurants and have never been amazed by the flavours of a dish as we have at Angus & Bon. Thank you to the Angus & Bon team!

We ordered the oysters, 350g sher Wagyu steak, crab spaghettini, kingfish, sourdough bread, New York cheesecake and onion rings. The steak was no doubt the best dish. The service was excellent. There was a lot of crab in the pasta. (We don't recommend the onion rings though.)

Breakfast restaurant
Nestled within the vibrant QT Melbourne, Pascale Bar & Grill is a sophisticated dining choice offering an array of steak, meat dishes, seafood, and delectable desserts complemented by a selection of cocktails and an extensive wine list. The restaurant's opulent interior exudes designer chic splendor with bold elements such as polished concrete and leather, creating a daring yet alluring ambiance.
Had a great night at Pascale restaurant. The food was amazing and very delicious. The entree was quick and very tasty. We waited for 45mins for our second course but it was worth waiting for. The pasta dishes were perfect, with plenty of flavour. Well done Chef and keep up the excellent cooking. Will definitely be coming back and recommending this place to family and friends 🥰😊

This was our first and definitely last time at this restaurant. By no means do the price and the quality match in this place. First, they tend to add unwarranted items to your bill without informing or obtaining your consent. We were asked if we wanted still or sparkling water when we arrived. Even though we didn't ask for either, they opened a mineral water bottle for us. We were with the first one, but they opened another one without even asking and charged us for it. The staff needs to be mindful of the customer's privacy. When we were there, they came to us every five minutes and asked if we wanted anything, but they kept interrupting our conversation. The food was a disaster. As you can see, the chips were burned together and hard as bricks. I ordered a well-done rib eye, and as you can see, there is a lot of blood on the plate. When we brought these up, they simply said, "Thanks for your feedback." On the positive side, it was a beautiful restaurant with an amazing selection of wines and very polite and friendly staff. By all means, I don't believe paying $200$+ for a table and getting this quality of service and food is worth it when, within walking distance, there are plenty of other restaurants that give you a much better experience at a similar price.

We really enjoyed our night out dining here last night. The ambience was perfect, low light and romantic. The service was exceptional from everyone there. Special mention to Patrick for going above and beyond! He made the night extra memorable. Highly recommended to try the burrata, bunramundi and ragu pasta!

I had the most amazing birthday dinner at Pascale! A big thanks to my friend Gillie for the recommendation—it absolutely did not disappoint. Andrew and Christine took such wonderful care of us, offering top-tier service and fantastic food recommendations. Every dish was beautifully presented, and to top it off, they surprised me with a complimentary glass of moscato perfectly paired with the tiramisu—it was divine! I kept saying how incredible the whole experience was, and honestly, it’ll be hard to top. Highly recommend this restaurant—the food, the service, and the ambiance are all exceptional. Definitely coming back!

Delicious food and lovely staff. We went early, so the place was a bit empty, but it has a nice ambience and you can see into the kitchen which I enjoy. The food portions were a good size, and I'd go back.

The venue and setting is lovely, however it is obscure and slightly difficult to find. The staff were lovely and accomodating. The online booking seemed to go missing which must have been a system error, however they seated us regardless. They charge 12 dollars for still or sparkling water which is quite expensive for one bottle of table water. I wasn’t a fan of the raw snapper entre personally, I felt the flavour combinations were odd. The focaccia was delicious, very good value and warm! I would highly recommend buying. The burrata was just okay for $24. The rigatoni alla vodka was delicious and quite a generous portion size. The steak was also good, very tender and flavourful.

Hotel restaurants can be a bit hit and miss, and this one I think misses, mainly due to the service, but also the prices. Came on a Tuesday night, and they had a “pasta and pinot” special, which my fellow diners enjoyed, but I’m pregnant - and they won’t substitute the wine for anything non alcoholic… bit inflexible!! The serve of pasta was also a bit small, considering the “special” was $36! It was nice though. The service was quite neglectful, couldn’t make eye contact to get drinks or get things cleared. They also didn’t leave tap water on the table, and left glasses empty a long time. When asked for feedback at the end of the meal, I mentioned the wine inflexibility, especially given I’m pregnant, and the manager just insisted wine was great with pasta… so tone deaf….!!!

Pub
Fitzroy Town Hall Hotel is a revitalized classic public house with stylish dining spaces and a traditional yet chic public bar. The restaurant offers European-influenced dishes made with artisan ingredients and a rustic yet refined cooking style by Chef Sean Donovan. The bar features vintage tiling, wood paneling, and an open fire snug for casual dining and craft beverages.
We have eaten here numerous times over the years and it has always exceeded our expectations. The food is absolutely phenomenal. Weekday specials, the Sunday roast, steak night. Always 11/10. Its one of our favourite places to go. (We drive from Essendon so its a good hike but always worth it!) Last night was no exception, a lovely Wednesday steak night. I just have to leave a review this time and praise the restaurant and bar staff. It was incredibly busy, it looked like the wheels were close to falling off and some customers had lost their manners and were clearly being rude and difficult. I must commend the manager Elle and the team for keeping their cool, communicating clearly how things would run and maintaining such a high level of professionalism. We had a lovely evening, drinks and dinner and greatly look forward to the next. Well done team x

Average. I booked 2 weeks earlier on OpenTable but they seemed to not know about that or appear terribly interested. Eventually after milling around they found our table. 15 minutes to come for entree order of warmed olives. 15 more minutes to bring the olives (they were quite tasty). Main course schnitzel with fior di latte cheese. Cheese was cold and hard. Bit disappointing. They said it didn’t come with salad so we ordered one, then it came covered in leaves. Roast of the day half a chicken!! Tasty but too much. The person waiting our table was cheerful but overall the experience was a bit average and the vibe was a bit disinterested.

I’ve made regular visits here and always have a good experience. Ella, the manager, is friendly and really knows her wine — and if she doesn’t, she’ll always take the time to find out. The lamb shoulder for two is a standout, especially with a bottle of red. The food is always tasty and the service is consistent. A relaxed and welcoming place I’m happy to keep coming back to.

I recently visited the Fitzroy Town Hall Hotel and had a mixed dining experience. We started with the 6-oyster special that included a drink, but unfortunately, the oysters tasted off and were quite unpleasant. It was disappointing, especially considering the venue's reputation. On a brighter note, we also ordered the Wednesday Steak Night special, which features a wood-fired sirloin served with fries and salad for $25. The steak was cooked well and offered good value for the price . The ambiance of the venue is warm and inviting, with a rustic decor . The staff were friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Overall, while the steak special was enjoyable, the oyster experience left much to be desired. I hope this was just an isolated incident, as the venue has potential for a great dining experience.

Easily one of the top spots in the country for Sunday Roasts! It consistently impresses, with the chef serving up unique and creative flavors each week, all crafted with exceptional skill. You’d expect to pay $35–$40 elsewhere for something of this quality, but here it’s just $25. Quality definetely exceeds what you would expect from regular pub! It is the first place that comes to mind when going out with family and friends! Highly recommended!

One of the best pubs in Melbourne and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough! A great happy hour (hours!), incredibly friendly staff and amazing food and drinks! Some of the best food specials going, get around the 3 martini and steak lunch on a Friday! The perfect place to park up, enjoy a few pints and a great pub vibe! 10/10 🍻

Called in for a Sunday $25 roast today with the family. We waited patiently for well over an hour and a half after we ordered. The roast was beef. When the roast hit the table I thought they were joking! Red bloody tough meat, really nice mash and boiled spinach. Where was the rest of the veggies? The meat was dry, it was an outside piece, and undercooked. OMGosh, look elsewhere if you want a decent feed. Unfiltered photo.

Went to Fitzroy Town Hall Hotel and holy hell, the food did not stand a chance. Steaks? Gone. Chicken dish? Obliterated. I would’ve taken photos but, yeah… all I’ve got is the evidence of empty plates. If that’s not a review in itself, I don’t know what is. Managed to slow down long enough for dessert and thank god I did, because the crème brûlée was an absolute weapon — cracked perfectly on top, smooth underneath, I basically wanted to lick the ramekin clean. Service was on point, portions were generous, and overall it just felt like one of those nights where everything clicked. Definitely coming back. Maybe next time I’ll snap a pic before inhaling the food… but no promises.

Argentinian restaurant
Bar
Function room facility
Palermo is a chic Argentinian steakhouse in Melbourne, named after the Buenos Aires neighborhood. The restaurant offers charcoal-grilled meats and a robust wine list. The kitchen features traditional Argentine cooking methods, with a whole pig roasted over a fire pit and various meats cooked on a parilla. Palermo brings the passion of Buenos Aires to its contemporary twist on sharing platters, incorporating Australian produce into their menu.
The steaks at Palermo are some of the best I’ve ever had. In particular, the porterhouse steak was really nice. The sides were also very good, including the papas, the bread and the empanadas. The staff were also very nice, particularly our server, who introduced us in and gave us valuable information. The atmosphere was also amazing, with the kitchen being visible, whilst the music also helped the experience. Overall, a great experience at Palermo. Would definitely recommend a visit.

The place is quite huge inside and the food is top quality. Argentinian steak is one of my favourites because you'll get flavours from every part of the meat. The barramundi steak is also of the best quality. The meat is very sweet and is the best barramundi I've ever tried. The complementing sauce is very tasty too. The bluefin tuna entree is super delicious with the green sauce that makes you want to eat more and more. The carrot side dish is also a must order. Overall, the place is highly recommended if you are craving for a good steak place.

A wonderful place for a quiet dinner. The hosts are very hospitable and provide great recommendations. The food is very tasty and tastes fresh - gourmet. The decor transports you to a place that distances you from the crowd outside. Do check on the wines that go well with the food you are planning to order.

Wonderfully greeted upon entrance and shown to our table. Service to begin with was great! The waiter attended to our table with some drink menus, shortly after we sat down as well as the specials. The food itself was delicious! We went for the $99 set menu and it was GREAT value money 👏🏼 All dishes came out in a timely manner, fresh and so tasty. My favourite was the Cheese and onion empanadas (which I forgot to take a photo of😢) and the steak and potato’s, of course. Will definitely go back again! ❤️

Everything was delicious!! I loved the decor, it took me back to Buenos Aires. The beef empanada, croquettes were so good. The rib eye as well. The flan was exquisite - I was so full I couldn’t finish it! But it tasted just like the flans you get in South America.

Visited here for a birthday celebration. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was spot on. This is not a quiet dining place but a loud, lively environment. We ordered several dishes from the menu. What I liked was that the menu was not extensive but big enough to have several options to choose from. We started with oysters, focaccia bread with whipped butter, and blue fine tuna in the most amazing smokey sauce. This was followed by chorizzo sausage and king prawns. The mains were the waygu beef and chicken accompanied by a leafy salad. It was too much for 2 people, so we took away most of the chicken. Super delicious all around.

Absolutely delicious. That charcoal chicken was next level juicy as hell and packed with flavour. The potatoes were crispy with a perfect kick, and those beef skewers? They absolutely nailed it. Everything came out hot, fresh, and actually worth the money. Would 100% come back again, and again.

Fine dining restaurant
Amaru is a highly acclaimed dining spot that offers an intimate setting and a tasting menu showcasing the finest local ingredients. Chef Clinton McIver and his team craft meticulously prepared dishes, such as the popular salted Woodside goats curd with honeycomb, lemon myrtle, and sorrel. The restaurant's dedication to quality extends to its drink pairings, with options like mango kombucha complementing the meal perfectly.
If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! This restaurant offers the best service I have ever experienced. Every staff member was incredibly attentive, thoughtful, and genuinely cared about every detail to make sure we had the perfect dining experience. The food was absolutely delicious—every dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented. What made the night even more special was their unique approach to the menu: they keep it a secret during the meal, introducing each dish individually with so much passion and detail, and then revealing the full menu at the end, which they even hand to you as a keepsake! It’s truly a one-of-a-kind experience that’s 100% worth visiting.

I’ve eaten in some great places, but nothing quite like this. At Amaru, it’s not just one chef hidden away in the kitchen- the whole team comes out to present their creations. Every course is introduced by the person who actually made it, their eyes lighting up as they explain the flavours and techniques. It’s intimate without being awkward, like being let in on a secret each time a plate hits the table. Each dish was a masterpiece, the kind you admire for a moment, almost hesitant to break its perfection, before surrendering to flavours that make you wonder if anything else will ever compare. Service flowed with quiet precision, every element appearing at exactly the right time, as though the staff could read the room’s every need. And the atmosphere… refined yet warm, wrapping the evening in an unmatched charm. They made our anniversary a very special and unforgettable evening. To everyone at Amaru- may your traffic lights always be perfectly green, your pillows forever soft and blissfully cold, and the closest parking spot always waiting just for you. 😇

I went there alone, after my business trip ended. The chefs, waiters/waitresses and sommeliers are friendly, helpful and passionate about what they do. The chefs and waiters also explained each dish and beverage pairing very clearly, highlighting Australian produce, and did it with passion and joy. Go for the chef’s counter, you won’t regret it!

I’ve dined at some of the world’s most renowned restaurants, and Amaru has topped them all. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, the experience was perfect in every way. From the simple yet elegant setting, professional & warm service to the creativity of each dish; we were blown away. Every dish left us genuinely impressed. Each time we thought the food couldn’t get any better, it did. The food was incredibly fresh, with flavours that were so beautifully balanced you could taste the thought and care behind each plate. Nothing felt heavy or overwhelming — just pure creativity and harmony on every level. We walked out feeling not only satisfied but amazed by the entire journey. We came to celebrate a friend’s birthday but left with an amazing dining experience we won’t forget. Thank you to the team for your hospitality.

Crowned the best in Melbourne for a reason. From the moment you walk in you know you are in for a night of amazing food. Every single course is well thought through, and the choice for wine pairing is exquisite. This is the epitome of culinary art.

Had an amazing dinner at Amaru. The food and non-alcoholic pairing was very thoughtfully and went very well with the beautiful food presented. And the service was impeccable and friendly, everyone took the time to have a chat without interrupting the flow. Love it!!
Annie L — Google review
This restaurant is phenomenal. I went in expecting to be disappointed due to the high price point and rave reviews, but their food, service and attention to detail clearly justifies the prices they are charging. We had 18 courses, with one extra special birthday cake surprise at the end, and each and every one of them was more mind blowing than the last. Highlights included the marron dish served with the potato bread, the beetroot and eel tart, the quail, blue fin tuna, steak and the sorbet and tonka bean ice cream desserts. What makes this place extra special is its commitment to culinary excellence. The kitchen is open and bustling and the food is ran to the table by the chefs themselves, ensuring that we as customers fully understand and appreciate what we’re eating. The service from the FOH was also outstanding, they were very knowledge about wines and friendly and personable throughout. This is the best restaurant in Melbourne, and i imagine if it was located anywhere else in the world it would receive 2 or 3 michelin stars. Save up for amaru, it’s worth it

The vegetarian garden goodness burger was pretty good. It did fall apart quite easily though and I ended up finishing it with a fork. The menu was a bit expensive so I ended up not getting any chips. My friends and I had trouble finding a table when we went in because all the empty ones still had plates on them and they hadn’t been cleaned off. We ended up just moving the dirty plates to another table and wiping it off ourselves. I’m not sure if I would come back. Maybe it’s just this location

I went to Grill'd to try their new Healthy Double Crunch Chicken Tenders which are a lighter take on fried chicken. Super seasoned, they have a nice flavour but are a touch dry solo. They definitely need a dipping sauce and I really liked the creamy cheese one. Like the usual issue with Grill'd, they are on the pricier side but I was impressed that because ours were a little small, they added an extra couple of pieces making it feel like real value for money. And it is a gamble whether the chips are gonna be great or not, unfortunately this time they were not. In the burger department, the Zen Hen is my new obsession (sorry Simon Says) thanks to that satay zing that just hits right. I honestly can't believe I've never tried this burger before now?! And I also love that even to today, they are still more than just burgers with their Local Matters token jars, every meal feels like community + flavour + doing good, all in one. We all know that they aren't the cheapest meal going around, but they do nail the sweet spot of a treat without the guilt — natural ingredients, made to order, and every calorie counted. It's healthy indulgence always and my Fitness Pal thanks me for it!

Me and my husband went here for dinner tonight, my husband ordered the hot bird and added extra toppings, they forgot the toppings and then got annoyed at him when he complained that they had forgotten, they remade it and it was fine. I ordered the bird and Brie my chicken wasn’t cooked properly and parts of it were raw, while we were also trying to enjoy our dinner we saw mice running around under the tablets which completely put us off our food, we won’t be back and we have no idea how it’s still opened.

Came here 4 days ago and had an excellent honeyed hen salad. So good, poppet back for another. First would have had 5 stars for the quality of food. Today's I'd give 0 stars, and that's after the first one got sent back as I was served cold onion rings and poor salad with brown lettuce leaves. The difference is ridiculous. Can't now recommend. Also priority seems to be given to delivery orders, so even though not busy in-store the wait time is long. Shame as our first visit was good. Seemshit and miss.

A delightful experience overall! The cocktails here are definitely a highlight – wonderfully crafted and absolutely delicious. Each drink was a real treat. The food also impressed with its freshness and quality. You can tell they use great ingredients, and everything tasted vibrant. The only slight drawback was the price point, which felt a little higher than average. However, considering the quality of the cocktails and the freshness of the food, it's still a worthwhile spot for a special occasion or when you're looking to indulge a bit. The atmosphere and views are also a definite plus. I'd happily return for those fantastic drinks and fresh bites!

Thank you for being open to listening about our complaints. I still can't believe that you unintentionally or intentionally skiped orders from some people (9 of us) and finaly delivered ll ordered drinks to our tabe after 40 minutes and 3 reminders. What I can't understand is that the order has been taken for food but couple of people have been easily skipped. I personally pointed they still there and they are not invisible. Finally on our satisfaction the staff has been changed and suddenly we have been all visible and acknowledged. Thank you so much to second lady staff who was much more polite, helpful and knowledgeable. Food was ok but nothing from all we have ordered wasn't special to say it was outstanding. Thank you for having us on Australia day, but we shall take time to come back here. Mostly because of the poor ser.

We went to Mesa Verde last night and we were delighted with atmosphere, food and service. Lots of people, nice music, communal space with joint long tables. Very enjoyable and relaxing. Food was excellent, spicy tacos, smoky fries, just to name few. We will go there more often and would recommend everyone to pay a visit. You won't be disappointed definitively!! Jana & Boris

Came here for both Taco Tuesday ($5 tacos) and Steak Night Wednesday ($30), and both were well worth it. The tacos were full of flavour. While the meats could’ve been a bit more tender, the sauces really carried them. Tortillas were standard but held everything together well. Tried all four options on the night: lamb, brussels sprouts, pork carnitas, and fried fish. Ranking them: lamb on top, then brussels, pork, and fish. The brussels sprout sauce was the standout, but the pork and brussels proteins lacked a bit of juicy texture. $5 each (sold in sets of two). Wish they had the ox tongue on – heard that’s a big hit. The homemade hot sauce was absolute fire – added a big punch of flavour and tied everything together. The steak night though… easily a top 3 steak night in Melbourne for me. A 250g O’Connor steak with chips and salad. Steak quality and texture were miles ahead of most other steak nights. One came topped with a chipotle sauce that worked beautifully, and the salad was packed with flavour (honestly one of my favourites). Chips were decent, worked well with the chipotle seasoning to keep the Mexican vibe. Overall, Mesa Verde really shines on the sauce and flavour front, which more than covers the gaps in tenderness here and there. Service was great – a little too eager at times (plates whisked away the second I finished), but no real complaint there. I’d definitely come back to try more of the menu.

Had the steak night at Mesa Verde and its hands down one of the best in Melbourne that I've had! The chips are seasoned and cooked to perfection and theres a smoky tomato sauce that is a fantastic balance of sweet and smoky, the steak was amazing and paired with the red wine jus that complemented the steak without overpowering it! The salad and broccolini were perfect sides to the main and the space was quite intimate with great ambience! Definitely recommend getting a reservation for steak night as they can fill up quick, highly recommend for dinner with friends or date nights! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Food was really delicious, the corn entree was a massive hit. We got there for $10 frozen margaritas and both were very tasty.

We went here for their steak night. It was on a Wednesday night and they had recently changed their menu. The steak, friends and salad were beautiful. Had a beautiful salsa, perfectly cooked they had house red and beer to go with it. Really cost effective and tasty meal for a weeknight if you are inclined to go. This place is inside curtain house. I recommend booking if you plan to go during busy dining hours 6:350-8pm ish. I am keen to go back and try more of the dishes, but I wouldn’t blink twice about going to this place again if catching up with a friend after work or pre show dinner. And definitely will be back during the comedy festival.

food is delicious and service was excellent, my partner and i had a really nice time here. i enjoyed everything we ordered but the saltbush & finger lime oyster was especially great, i highly recommend. horchata was also a highlight. our server was lovely, intuitive and accommodating. i really appreciated being asked about dietaries/allergies after i forgot to mention them myself. we felt well looked after but also relaxed. seating was spacious and comfortable with just the 2 of us in a booth. i will say that it was quite loud but in fairness it was a friday night and a dj was booked.

Loved their Wednesday Steak Night deal ($30 for 250g steak, chips and lettuce) paired with $10 wines all night. The food was beautiful, service was really attentive and super nice staff and the restaurant as a whole is super cosy. The whole menu looks incredible so I’ll definitely be coming back to try more of the menu.

A quick drink before dinner around the corner, I opted for a Paloma (can never go wrong) and my friend ordered the Bananachata, a banana-flavoured horchata cocktail (DELICIOUS). I would really like to go back for food, particularly the $30 Steak Wednesdays.

Fine dining restaurant
Steer Dining Room Restaurant is a spacious and modern steakhouse in South Yarra, Melbourne, known for its use of high-quality wagyu and Angus cuts. The restaurant offers an Asian focus with a wide range of world-class cuts available, all hand-picked by head chef Jeffry Lim from top beef producers and seafood sources in Australia.
No.1 steakhouse in Melbourne in our opinion! The food is absolutely outstanding — the steak was cooked to perfection and paired beautifully with the wine Harold recommended. He really looked after us, suggesting a wonderful steak and wines that matched perfectly for me and my partner. The service was warm, attentive, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Definitely will be coming back again and again!

A stunningly opulent and ambient establishment, offering the most delectable and indulgent steak I have ever had. The wait staff, including the sommelier, were extremely attentive and knowledgeable, elevating our dining experience. This is the perfect venue to attend to commemorate a special occasion, or to treat yourself to brilliant food, drinks, and service.

Superb venue for the non-vegan. Amazing selection of wagyu and more at this new favourite of ours in Melbourne. The restaurant is very well appointed, comfortable and the staff are very attentive and excellent. We could not fault our table service, and the sommelier was also very good. You can choose your protein from the table side cart, which adds some theatre to the dining experience. As you would expect wagyu focussed menu, and this is what you would, and should venture here for. We shared some entrees, and the tartare was excellent, as were the oysters. For the main we selected a 900 gram Stoney Axe full blood wagyu T-bone, to share, cooked medium to rare with sides and some sauces and wagyu butter, and mustards and horseradish. Cooked to perfection, and was a great cut. A very good wine list, including an amazing selection by the glass, and cocktails. We will return and would highly recommend Steer.

Came with high expectations for a birthday celebration. 2 entries 2 Kobe stake 2 side 2 sauce 2 glass of wine 1 mocktail 1 cocktail 1 dessert. Ended up paying over $1000 as the stuff charged us additional 2 glass of wine. Stuff did noticed the error and called us to give the money back. Service was average, it’s just liken any-other restaurant. Oyster was ok, nothing really special. Scallops was good Kobe stake was not how we expected to taste like. Nothing like that melt in mouth experience from other Wagyu Cocktail & mocktail was good Wine was good Side dish onion ring as well as the veggies was better than ok. Desert was quite unique, was great. Overall food taste pretty normal, nothing stands out. Wagyu was definitely a surprise. Overall service was ok, it is at its standard. Do recommend stuff to speak bit louder. Price - after taking back the extra wine cost, we paid around $850+ for 2. Do felt like could have gone to Attica or Churchill for better dining experience for both food, and service.

Came here for my birthday with some girlfriends. Service here was 10/10 ⭐️ the vibe of the restaurant was moody and romantic. The food and cocktails were delish. Wish the steak we got was a little bit more melt in my mouth, but still delicious. Complimentary appetisers and singing happy birthday was really sweet. Would definitely recommend here for a date night or special occasion.

Unforgettable Wagyu Mastery at Steer Dining Room My group of friends and I recently celebrated a special occasion at Steer Dining Room in Melbourne, opting for their Award-Winning Experience menu, and it was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we stepped into the intimate, luxurious dining room with its warm ambiance and sleek design, we knew we were in for a treat. The shared-style format for groups of 8+ truly brought us together, creating that perfect communal vibe while indulging in top-tier cuisine. We started with the snacks, which set an incredibly high bar: the natural oysters with lemon and shallot mignonette were fresh and briny, the puffed beef tendon with miso mayo and pickled cucumber offered a delightful crunch, and the Wagyu steak tartare with zhug, garlic emulsion, and chickpea crisp was a flavor explosion—rich, spicy, and perfectly balanced. Every bite was 5/5 perfection. The shared entrees continued the magic. The Sher F1 Wagyu Tataki with pickled vegetables and ponzu was melt-in-your-mouth tender, highlighting the quality of the beef right away. The Wagyu karubi with butternut pumpkin, kale, and soy glaze brought a sweet-savory harmony, and the Wagyu sukiyaki featuring Ozaki A5 chuck roll with horseradish, chives, and sukiyaki sauce was an absolute standout—juicy, umami-packed, and innovative. But the star of the show was the shared main: the chef's selection of four premium Full Blood Wagyu cuts, sourced from award-winning producers in Australia and Japan. We had the Kumamoto A5 Porterhouse from Japan, Mayura Station Scotch Fillet from VIC, Stone Axe Tenderloin from VIC/NSW, and 2GR Porterhouse from NSW—all carved tableside for that dramatic flair. We requested them cooked to medium rare, and they nailed it: each piece was seared to a beautiful crust with a rosy, juicy interior that showcased the intense marbling and buttery texture. Paired with the sides—hand-cut steak chips that were crispy and fluffy, stir-fried greens for a fresh contrast, cos salad with ranch and shallot, and that velvety Béarnaise sauce—everything complemented the beef without overpowering it. 5/5 on every level; I've never tasted Wagyu this exquisite. Dessert wrapped things up beautifully with the shared options: the S’more tart with chocolate ganache, marshmallow, macadamia praline, and smoked vanilla ice cream was indulgent and playful, while the orange souffle cheesecake with mandarin marmalade, white chocolate ganache, and mandarin frozen yoghurt provided a light, citrusy finish. No complaints here—pure 5/5 bliss. The service was impeccable, with the sommelier helping us pair wines from their extensive list (we went with a couple of bold reds that matched the Wagyu perfectly), and the staff accommodating our group's preferences seamlessly. At $320 per person, it's a splurge, but worth every cent for this level of quality and experience. Steer has earned its reputation as a top steakhouse—highly recommend the Award-Winning Experience for anyone seeking the pinnacle of Wagyu dining. 5/5 stars all around! We'll be back.

It’s very hard to acquire Kobe beef out of Japan and Steer is one of the qualified restaurants in Australia. They offer premium Japanese wagyu and Australian M7 beef but both cooked in western way, which is quite salty and causes the meat to lose its special flavour of Japanese wagyu. the waitress recommended we ordered porterhouse for both Kumamoto A5 wagyu and stone Axe on bones. Yet, the Same processing and cooking method made these two types of beef taste the same. It would be batter to order two different types of cooking way if you wanna compare Japanese and Australian beef. Their waitress are abit cold except Sommelier who recommend good wines go well with the steak. 🥩 Feel very greasy after eating this so can’t take anything else afterwards any more. We felt struggling to finish 800 gram steaks and in total we spent $1000+ for 4pax including tips.

Restaurant
Bar Liberty is a trendy spot that offers an extensive selection of top-notch alcoholic beverages, including wine, cider, cocktails, whisky, vermouth, and housemade soda. The menu is carefully curated to ensure high quality and variety. The food menu features small plates curated by the head chef and executive chef, such as king prawns in miso sauce and snapper fillet with kefir cultured cream.
A thoroughly impressive dinner menu and cocktail/wine range. Bar Liberty is a great venue if you’re looking to have an intimate dinner and drinks. I was really impressed by the quality of the food and flavour profiles of each of the dishes. The wholemeal sourdough was light and fluffy, the coral trout was had a great freshness and acidity to it that you look for in a seafood cerviche, the potato dumplings had such an interesting (good) texture with nice subtle flavours from the cheddar and sauces, the meat dish was seasoned very well and cooked to a perfect medium rare and the polpete has such a rich, juicy flavour profile. This was one of the best wine bar experiences I’ve had in Melbourne. The cocktails were very nice, and included some modern/novel takes on traditional cocktails and the staff were excellent. They were never too far away and took pride in the business’ work. The venue itself was nice and intimate and definitely one to think of if you’re looking to have a solid catch up with friends or family.

This little place serves an amazing food and the list of the wines is pretty great too. We went there on Saturday night and we shared few little things and 2 main in 4 people and it was more than enough. The service was very pleasant, our waitress recommended few things and give us amazing suggestions.

They change their menu weekly, so it’s unique every time you go, which makes it really fun to come back and try new dishes. The set menu is around $65pp, and we added the lamb side and some cocktails, which came to about $80–100pp. Everything was beautifully presented and full of flavour. The entrées were definitely a highlight, and the flatbread with cheese and kumquats was incredible, perfectly balanced and flatbread served warm, yum! The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined, and their staffs are lovely and attentive. Overall, a great dining experience that never feels repetitive.

outstanding food, really! i enjoyed the martini to start, followed by the bread + pate, the zucchini, and the pork with mustard sauce. really really impressive. the bread was to die for, so good that no words could be spoken after i had finished it all up. i needed a moment to collect myself. the pork was wonderful, warm, smokey, tender. the mustard sauce was powerful - star of the dish - but not overpowering. it was smooth and sexy. the highlight of my meal, actually, was the zucchini. it was served with honey and some sort of grain. really it was just so fresh, and cut through the heavier pork dish. i’m so glad i got it. wished i had space for dessert but i didn’t! will be back for it next time :)

Bar Liberty you have to be the coolest kid on the block. When my friend and I walked in we shared a look knowing straight away we had made a good decision to visit. The two servers were personable and made us feel apart of their evening. Good hospitality really makes a dining experience memorable, so thank you. I will be recommending this place to everyone I know. The food was seriously exciting. Everything was so well balanced and plated beautifully. 10/10. So simple but so much depth. How does one make flat bread taste so good. Ps. The potato dumplings changed my life.

Ishizuka is a high-concept Japanese restaurant in Melbourne, offering a seasonal Kaiseki tasting menu in an underground venue with industrial decor. The 16-seat basement space serves delicate and thoughtful food steeped in tradition, with dishes that may seem low-key but are actually luxurious. The menu features themes like transcendental custards and jellies, seafood soup, and sashimi showcasing local fish.
Absolutely flavour and texture was 💯 across all the courses. The ingredients, thought and detail in plating, taste and service was impeccable. I was treated to many seasonal ingredients that were new for me and cooking technique I've never seen before. As someone who enjoys trying new flavours, this was a experience like no other. Worth a visit at least once for a special occasion!

I visited Ishizuka for the Omurice event on March 25, and it was fantastic. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was so inviting. I will definitely be back to try more from their menu. It’s a great place for anyone looking for a unique and memorable dining experience. Highly recommend.
Narissara K — Google review
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful dining experience at Ishizuka. The food was beautifully presented and tasted just as good as it looked. Each dish felt like a thoughtful work of art, with delicate flavors and a beautiful sense of balance. The pacing between courses was perfect, enough time to appreciate each one without feeling rushed. I highly recommend the non-alcoholic drink pairing, it elevated each course and was absolutely worth it. We will definitely be returning!! One small note: we arrived less than 10 minutes early, as did a few others, and it felt a bit awkward having to stand and wait to be seated. It would be great if there were a more welcoming protocol for early arrivals.

A great experience from the moment you walk in. Everything from the food, presentation and service was amazing. The Kaiseki menu was a perfect amount of food with each dish carefully prepared and explained upon serving. Would highly recommend for a special occasion.
Steven W — Google review
Great experience with an exceptionally well-curated collection of dishes. Although I’ve been to fine dining restaurants of different cuisines around the world, I’d still place Ishizuka at the very top after what I experienced last night. If you enjoy Japanese omakase, this is the place you’ll want to visit in Melbourne.

We were here six years ago and were impressed by the experience, this place continues to deliver great food and great service. Their seasonal menu is packed with interesting dishes that includes oyster, Otoro sushi, caviar, tempura, crab meat, A5 wagyu beef from Kumamoto, green lip abalone (for those chose not to have beef), Murray cod, duck and dessert. They have a good wine and sake selection, we went with two types of sake that complement the dishes well. They are using a bit more local ingredients like seafood but still getting some top products from Japan (like beef and blue fin tuna) There’re only 12 counter seats, the chef and team cook right in front of us so it’s really enjoyable to see how it’s all done. The service is attentive and polite, really feel pampered. It’s advisable to be slightly early as to enjoy the whole experience, there’s a nice waiting area. We’ll be back for the next season’s menu.

Had a great family lunch here. The atmosphere was awesome! We loved all the entries, especially the fried chicken, it's a must order!! Then we got a bunch of tacos each. We all rated the fish tacos to be our favourite. The beef taco was a bit too salty for my like. The calamari main dish was ok. Overall, the entries are way better than the tacos! It was still a very good lunch.

Took my partner here for her birthday since she's coeliac so the entire menu being gluten free is AMAZING. She ate completely stress free and had a wonderful time. Entree's were incredible particularly since it is hard to find a gluten free empanada and they almost got it. she loved their take on the chimichurri sauce on the steak but I was less impressed, being a south american I much prefer traditional chimi, so personal taste really! Atmosphere was quite dull but it was also a very cold Tuesday night so kinda to be expected. The venue however had the glass doors open so we were both freezing!!! plastic rainsheets were down but they won't keep in any heat. Come try it the food is interesting but bring a blanket if your coming on a cold night.

Absolutely love this restaurant, I’ve been coming here for years and never been disappointed. Both the service and food are incredible! I’m obsessed with the Baja fish tacos, probably the best fish taco I’ve ever had and you can’t go past the blueberry margaritas too. I’ve came here for my last two birthdays and they do a feed me menu which is great value for money, particularly in groups. The whole menu is also gluten free and so I feel as if the food is guilt free. Couldn’t recommend repeat offender more!

The entrees were delicious. We ordered the fresh oysters, the guacamole, the mushroom croquettes and tiger prawn tostada. The main were good but not as good as the entrees. Smith St Bistrot in Melbourne is a sophisticated and attractive dining spot with a romantic old-world Parisian interior, featuring antique mirrors, plush burgundy banquettes, and lavish chandeliers. The ambiance takes you back to the glitzy 1920s, offering a delightful dining experience. Chef Scott Pickett's culinary expertise shines through the exceptional and perfectly cooked food.
Have a date with my boyfriend tonight, the waitress and waiter here are so nice and well aware of the service details. For food, they are all good and I will highly recommend the chicken liver and smoked salmon. The music and atmosphere is retro and cozy which let the dinner become extra special. ☺️

This was a terrible dining experience! The restaurant informed us that there would be an extra charge for bringing our own cake. We were quite surprised because, in Melbourne, we had never encountered a fee for bringing a birthday cake. However, we still found it understandable—similar to how restaurants charge a corkage fee for bringing your own wine. What shocked us was that when we got the bill, we realized they were charging an additional $40 for the cake! We found this completely unreasonable. After some discussion, the restaurant eventually waived the fee. Our total bill came to $399, and I handed over $400, thinking it would be a happy ending. But instead of giving me $1 in change, they returned five 20-cent coins—clearly an intentional insult. A restaurant of that size, and they don’t have a $1 coin?
Sandy Q — Google review
I only realised after the meal that Smith Street Bistro is a Scott Pickett venue—same guy behind Chancery Lane, which I really liked. This one was… fine. Definitely more affordable, and some of the opening plates felt like nods to Chancery, but the execution wasn’t quite there. The John Dory was nicely flavoured, but the chewy crouton (or whatever it was) threw the texture off. Sauce was solid though. Steak was just that—steak. Nothing wrong, nothing memorable. Chips were a letdown: soggy and cold. Bread was good, anchovies were, well, anchovies. Tartare was alright, tad chewy but fine. Service was attentive and friendly, and the interior was a highlight—really well designed and a great space to dine in. Overall, it was an OK experience, just not on the same level as Chancery Lane but also paying less here.

Al Dente Enoteca Restaurant was born out of a pasta delivery service launched by Italian-born chef Andre Vignalli during the COVID lockdowns. What started as a response to the pandemic's challenges quickly evolved into an upscale modern restaurant in Melbourne. The menu, curated by Vignalli and Bonadimas, showcases seasonal dishes with a focus on local quality produce and regionally inspired Italian flavors.
Wonderful atmosphere and friendly service. I appreciate the waiters knowing a thing or two about their food and how things pair and what to suggest. Is slightly expensive, the quality and portion size of the food is good. Everything was delicious and I liked their homemade dessert creation. That was such a delight. Nice to see different regional Italian cuisine.

Last night we celebrated my mum’s birthday at Al Dente Enoteca on Nicholson Street, Carlton, and the evening was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the service set the tone — coats taken, a stool for my mum’s bag, and staff who clearly cared about every detail. The atmosphere was refined yet welcoming, even down to the artwork and boujee vibe in the amenities. My amaretto sour was one of the best I’ve had — smooth, balanced, and perfectly made. For entrées, we shared the stracciatella insalata and croquettes — both phenomenal — but the standout was the homemade bread and butter. Such a simple touch, yet utterly exquisite; the salted butter on warm bread could have been a dish in itself. For mains, everything looked stunning, but my cacio e pepe tortellini was on another level — rich, perfectly balanced, and finished beautifully with a scarpetta of bread. We wisely saved room for dessert: the latte miele and their signature tiramisu. Now, I’ll never admit anything beats my mum’s tiramisu, but this came incredibly close. Hands down the best I’ve had dining out — generous in portion, bold in flavour, and refreshingly confident in not following social media gimmicks. The chef from Verona clearly brings both passion and pride to the table, and it shows in every dish. Thank you for making my mum’s birthday so memorable. We’ll absolutely be back — especially to try the specials!

Good Ambience, Good Food, Good Wine list but the standout was Elena the manager( if she isn’t she should be!). Our bad that we made a mistake with our booking and booked the wrong day for dinner, but Elena swooped in and saved the day. Instead of just saying bad luck as the restaurant was full and buzzing; She juggled things around and made space for us on the bar. She turned what would have been a disaster as we were visiting from interstate to a really top night! It’s service like that that makes the place stand out. The scallops were lovely with the sauces enhancing its natural flavours. The pasta’s were cooked al dente and the richness of the ragu and sauces were excellent. Finally the duck and beef were done very well. Overall superb! One last word on the wine list, well curated though I would have appreciated a larger selection by the glass, but still good. Well done!
Edwin K — Google review
Excellent service and very welcoming staff. The scallop entree was fresh and delicious, the sauce paired beautifully with the crispy fried shallots. The duck breast was juicy and tender with rich aroma from the duck oil and a nicely crisped skin, very satisfying. The only disappointment was the Wagyu M9. We ordered it medium, but it was served almost well done, which ruined the expected tenderness and texture. It ended up dry and tough to chew. The portion was little small, still had room for dessert after meal!

Each dish is signposted with its place of origin, such as red curry squid cake from Samut Sakhon and crunchy pork lard from Chiang Rai.
Valentine's night at Thai Tide. Opting for the earlier seating before heading to a paint-and-sip session turned out to be a great choice. The set menu started on a high note with two glasses of sparkling wine upon arrival. The crispy school prawns were perfectly crunchy and absolutely delightful. The slow-cooked duck in red curry was another highlight, with its rich, aromatic flavours, chargrilled pork collar has Smoky notes! To finish, the Thai dessert of tropical fruits with jasmine syrup was a refreshing and zesty treat, perfectly balancing the meal with its light and vibrant flavours. The experience was thoroughly enjoyable with a Polaroid photo to take home. I’m already looking forward to returning to explore more of their regional dishes. Highly recommended!

Date: 21 April 2025 Today I tried the ROYAL THAI TIDE FEAST ($88PP) and it was absolutely amazing! I also fell in love with their mocktail—I ordered the Andaman and it was soooo good. I really want to go back just to try more from the mocktail menu.😳😳 My friend had wine, and it paired beautifully with the food. You can even ask the staff for pairing recommendations. Even though I’m Thai, this was my first time trying Thai green curry like this—we had the Charcoal Grilled Chicken with Green Banana Jungle Green Curry. The flavor combination was incredible! (P.S. For my fellow Thais, this dish isn’t spicy, so don’t expect heat here! 🌶️🤭) The atmosphere is also lovely and romantic—perfect for a date night. The staff were super friendly and gave us great recommendations. I met Pink (our waitress) and Chef Ken, and they were both so kind and welcoming. Overall, I had a fantastic experience and will definitely go back again! For more information pls DM my IG @enjoyhappylife.ig Or TikTok @gracegungirlforever เทพเกรซพาเพลิน

Sat upstairs with some friends to enjoy a few dishes. The cocktails were delish and everything we were served was fantastic! If you want to book a drink place for great Thai, this is one of them. The Laarb, mushroom tofu soup, bone-marrow fried rice, papaya salad are a delish option to start. You must also leave room for dessert!!! They were incredible for those that are celiac/GF!

It’s not a place we’d normally eat at, but we had a voucher so went for a nice dinner. We enjoyed the food. It was so good. The peanut sauce with the roti was awesome as was the noodles

This was our first visit to this lovely Thai restaurant. Service, athmosphere, food delicious. We shall come back. P.s.If anything to change it would be morning glory, instead of fried I would like to see steered.

Thai Tide is a gem! The food was absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. I especially loved the bone marrow fried rice—it was rich and so satisfying. The green mango salad with crispy fried fish was super refreshing, with just the right balance of sweet, tangy, and spicy. The grilled squid was tender and paired perfectly with the green dipping sauce. For dessert, I tried their "Tearamisu," which was an interesting twist on the classic. It had a unique flavor profile that rounded out the meal in a fun and unexpected way—definitely worth a try if you’re up for something different. The service was great—friendly and quick without being overbearing. The vibe of the place is cozy yet lively, making it a great spot for a casual dinner or a catch-up with friends. If you're into elevated Thai food or just looking for something new to try, Thai Tide is definitely worth a visit. I’ll be back for sure!

Victor Churchill in Melbourne is a unique blend of a high-end butcher shop and an intimate dining experience. The Melbourne location features a compact bar counter at the rear of the shop, offering some of the best steak in the country. Guests can indulge in take-home favorites like Kurobuta porchetta and rabbit terrine, which can be cooked to order. The exclusive offerings at The Bar are highly recommended.
We had a fantastic experience at Victor Churchill. The food was truly excellent — every dish was beautifully prepared, and the quality of the meat stood out immediately. It was incredibly tender and flavourful, practically melting in our mouths. The service was just as impressive. The staff were not only attentive and professional, but also friendly and fun to chat with, which added a relaxed and enjoyable vibe to the evening. Overall, a memorable meal with great food and great people. We’ll definitely be back.

Pretty good for today’s economy. Definitely high quality food that I could not make at home myself—my general benchmark for good restaurant food. The place itself is nicely designed and decorated and the staff are friendly. Service staff got a bit confused about when our meals were coming out and they forgot to ask if we wanted sauces with our steak, but that wasn’t a major issue to us. Overall, a good Melbourne restaurant for high quality cured meat and steak.

Holy moly! What a way to kick off this review. Victor Churchill is hands down one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The décor is incredible, you cannot help but keep looking around and noticing new details, and the food was just on another level. We had the beef short rib croquettes, scallops, beef tartare, porchetta and the beef zabuton. Every single dish was spot on and cooked perfectly. But the real star? The crème brûlée. Absolute showstopper. Big shoutout to Barney and Kiki as well, the service was flawless. We mentioned in passing that we were celebrating a very overdue birthday, and when dessert came out it had a candle and a birthday message. Such a thoughtful touch and it really made the night. Easily one of my top dining experiences. Highly recommend!

This was hands down the best steak we’ve had in Melbourne. From start to finish, the experience was exceptional. Although each seating is limited to two hours, the waiting staff and kitchen team worked in perfect harmony to ensure customers did not feel rushed. The appetisers were all fantastic—especially the steak tartare, which absolutely lived up to its high reputation in other reviews. But the standout for us was the king prawn: incredibly fresh, and the sauce was so delicious we found ourselves asking for extra bread just to soak up every last drop! We were a party of four, each ordering a different cut of steak. There was a small mix-up with my order, but the team handled it with such professionalism and efficiency that my correct cut was brought out within minutes. Every steak was of superb quality and cooked to perfection. We left a generous tip—not only to cover the extra steak we took home due to the mix-up, but also to show our appreciation for the outstanding service provided by the entire team. Their professionalism and attention to detail truly made the evening memorable. We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in Melbourne. Highly recommended!

Walking into Victor Churchill is cool, but the real fun starts when the food shows up. I can totally say this place has amazing food that's just way better than most. Everything I tried was delicious. You can tell they use really good stuff and know how to cook it. The meat, especially, was amazing and so tender. Seriously, it's the best meat I've ever had in Melbourne. Every bite was awesome, cooked just right, and packed with flavour. And it's not just the main dishes. The appetizers and starters were also really great, getting you ready for a fantastic dining experience. The dessert was truly the cherry on the cake, topping off an already incredible experience. I highly recommend Victor Churchill if you want a fantastic eating experience. Head Chef Lucas and his team do an awesome job, giving you a food adventure that will make you want to come back again and again. If you love food, you gotta check this place out!

I've been around six times & have never been disappointed. VC is very beautiful & is a lovely place to have a meal sitting at the marble bar. The food & service have always been 5 star on every visit - the staff are friendly & professional. Sometimes when passing, I stop in to buy a dessert from the fridge to take home as a treat & they've all been delicious.

The steak is one of the best I’ve ever had. I got the special that was on, can’t remember the exact name of it but it was fantastic. My girlfriend got the eye fillet, it was so tender and tasty. The sides were fantastic, entrees fantastic and the service was really great. Very attentive, our waiter asked if we came for any social occasion and we told him it was for a birthday. He then got us a little chocolate gift with a candle as a surprise. Delightful all the way through. Would go again & highly recommend.

Service was 10/10. The calamari was very fresh, and the steak was cooked perfectly to a medium rare with a beautiful chargrilled flavour. The chips served with the beef tartare were nice and crunchy, though the tartare itself could use a bit more seasoning. The cigar was full of rich beef flavour and cheesy goodness, with a pleasant crunch from the pistachios — a really good appetiser overall.

Yakikami in South Yarra offers a unique dining experience with its Niku Kappo Wagyu Omakase, the only one of its kind in Melbourne. The restaurant features a casual yakitori-style eatery and a fine dining Josper room where guests can enjoy some of the finest wagyu dishes in an intimate setting. With seating for up to 10 guests, diners can indulge in a 12-course degustation menu prepared by master chefs Koji and Soichi.
Had dinner at the newly opened Yakikami in south Yarra. The seafood was incredibly fresh, and the yakitori was grilled to perfection — juicy, flavorful, and beautifully plated. The ambience was elegant yet relaxed, and the service was warm and attentive without being intrusive - kids friendly! A couple of my personal favorites weren’t available at dinner (especially the grilled quail and foie gras rice, which is only on the lunch menu), but everything I did try was excellent. I’ll definitely be back to catch the lunch offerings next time. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates high-quality Japanese cuisine with attention to detail. Overall it was absolutely delightful dinning experience with my family 💯
Candy Z — Google review
Heard about Yakikami from friends and seen it pop up a lot in Melbourne’s dining scene, so finally came to check it out. From my understanding, they mainly focus on Japanese yakitori and meats. Everything was cooked with the refinement you’d expect from a Japanese restaurant, but for me the flavours and the price point didn’t quite match up. To be fair, I had just come back from Japan, so maybe that raised my expectations, but the quality for what you pay here just didn’t feel worth it. The standouts: • Yakitori chicken hamburg-style “sausage dog” – easily one of the highlights, really delicious. • Tempura prawn with cheese-coated sushi – surprisingly well balanced, the cheese wasn’t overpowering and actually worked. • Chawanmushi (Japanese steamed egg) – my personal favourite of the night, silky and full of flavour. The Wagyu meats were good, but again, for the price I didn’t feel they justified the spend. I also ordered a few sushi/sashimi dishes – they were fine, but nothing special and I probably wouldn’t order them again. Service was excellent throughout the night, no complaints there. Overall, Yakikami is good, but for how hyped it is and the premium you pay, I walked away feeling underwhelmed. Glad I tried it, but not somewhere I’d rush back to.

This place is immaculate. This is the second time we’ve been here and I’m still blown away at how good the food tastes, the freshness and the quality. We came here to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. The staff were very attentive - refilling water, asking everyone if they wanted another drink whether it was the same or a different one. The bartender we asked to make a drink executed it perfectly. We gave him a drink profile we were after and he delivered. We also had shots on the house which we asked to take with the bartender. The Zensai was out of this world. The jelly that was paired with it was the perfect mix of tangy and sweet. The Oysters, were also very nice and fresh. I’m personally not the biggest fan of oysters, but the sauce paired with it went well. Sashimi - unbelievable fresh, delicious. The standout pieces were the scallop, The fatty tuna piece which melted in your mouth and the salmom which was immaculate. Snowcrab - as someone who hates crab and has never had an egg cooked this way before, it was very delicious. seasoned well with sauce, the dish was immaculate. Great balance of meat to egg ratio. There wasn’t a lot of meat to take away from the star of the dish; the egg and there wasn’t too little crab pieces to make you feel like you’re getting your moneys worth. I’m an avid Chinese BBQ skewer lover. The skewers ere are very different to Chinese bbq skewers (which are typically street food). Yakikami has a more elegant take on it, the food was extremely soft, it was packed with flavour but at the same time not overpowering the actual dish you were eating. Chicken wing - amazing Shittake mushroom - fresh, juicy Chicken neck - texture wasn’t my partners favourite, it’s definitely a little different, I was able to overlook the texture as the flavour was great. Chicken inner thigh - super tender and flavourful Chicken meatball - I was pleasantly surprised by this as I wasn’t expecting to like it. It paired well with the pasteurised egg. Duck skewer - I’ve never had duck outside of Chinese bbq style duck, so this was nice to try. The flavour is very nice, the leek paired perfectly with it. Chicken soup - the broth was velvety and smooth. Seasoned very well. I will say it tasted very similar to Dari’s chicken soup you a pick up, but there’s some extra stuff that makes all the difference. Dari’s chicken soups flavour is about 70% the same, but there’s texture of this soup and the remaining 30% is very different to Dari’s soup and is well worth it. Chicken was sous vide or cooked similarly. Extremely tender and not something easily replicated. Pork had a Smokey flavour to it (very subtle), but very much had that traditional char siu flavour Dessert was so good. Presentation was nice and was a great way to end the evening. Full disclosure, we did order a couple extra skewers before we got to dessert. An omakase isn’t about making you completely food, but to experience the journey of taste and artistry the chef has put together. We left Yakikami full and were not complaining. 10/10 experience, we’ll 100% be back

Had what I was hoping would be a pleasant dinner, but I was honestly shocked by how rude one of the female staff was — she was wearing a black suit, so I’m guessing she’s a supervisor. First of all, I had a booking but was still asked to wait — even though there were plenty of empty seats available. It wasn’t until I asked, “Can I sit at those empty tables?” that they suddenly realised they could seat me. Not a great start. Then, during the meal, this same supervisor dropped a dish right on top of my chopsticks and didn’t even bother to clean the table afterwards. When I reminded her about these two issues, I expected her to acknowledge it and do something — but instead, she started arguing with me! She actually tried to explain that she didn’t see the dish drop onto my chopsticks. Excuse me? I’m the one sitting there telling you it happened! Her reaction was just to deny it — no apology, no action, just excuses and attitude. Unbelievable. Really disappointing service, especially from someone who’s supposed to set an example. Never coming back.

Love everything we ordered… we particularly enjoyed: - the grilled asparagus with egg yolk & sauce hidden in the stack - snow crab chawamushi was so smooth that it’s a crime lol - chicken wings was crispy & fragrant - the grilled chicken neck caught us by surprise - grilled meatball with egg yolk - their wagyu skewer and accompanying green sauce - unagi temaki - one of the best I’ve eaten The dry sake complements our meal really well. The wait staff who served us was very lovely. We were seated at the counter which was great to see all the actions at the grilling station. Thanks heaps team. We’ll be back :)

Maison Bâtard is a spacious four-level dining spot that encompasses a supper club, terrace bar, and an upscale French restaurant serving contemporary interpretations of traditional French bistro dishes. The venue boasts an incredible ambience with a blend of jazz and Parisian vibes, creating an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere.
Maison Bâtard instantly feels like a European getaway hidden in the CBD. You step in beneath soft lighting, wrapped by warm stone walls and a gentle hum of conversation. Tables are close but cozy, the bartenders move with quiet purpose, and the air carries the faint charm of freshly baked bread and butter by the bar. The menu reads like a love letter to modern bistro fare. Start with a croquette that delivers crispy golden crunch and a creamy, cheese-forward center that hits just right. The steak frites follows with perfectly seared beef and fries so crisp they almost sound like applause on their way to the plate. The house-made mayonnaise offers the right tang, the salad side is simply dressed with subtle herbs, and the whole dish feels balanced, not just rich for richness’s sake. If you go for dessert, the tarte Tatin arrives warm with caramelized apples and puff pastry that layers just enough flake without collapsing. A few details elevate the experience. Plates land at a steady pace, never rushed, never delayed, and the temperature stays spot on until the last bite. Service stays quietly attentive, clearing plates just as you pause and topping up water without interrupting your appetite for conversation. Prices are on the higher side, but fair for the quality, location, and that feeling of being somewhere thoughtfully curated. If you want a moment of refined calm where simple, honest ingredients meet confidence and finesse, this is your kind of place. Go with a relaxed pace, let the flavors speak for themselves, and enjoy a little European calm tucked into the city bustle.

We started with the sourdough and baguette, served fresh and warm. The lobster omelette was rich and flavourful thanks to the crayfish bisque, although the omelette itself was slightly overcooked. The spicy tuna tartare was fresh with a nice kick, a bit of crunch would have elevated the texture. The standout was the rib eye steak, perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The peppercorn sauce was my favourite. I also enjoyed the chocolate cake. It was decadent yet not overly rich or sweet. Maison Bâtard has an extensive wine list with many old and rare bottles. I appreciated the thoughtfully curated short list for those who might find the full selection a little overwhelming. The interior is stunning and the service was friendly. It’s definitely on the pricey side and I’d expect a bit more for this price point. But you’re paying for the whole experience — the food, wine and atmosphere combined.

@maison_batard is a four level French restaurant fittingly at the Paris end of Bourke Street in Melbourne CBD. It is brought to you by @thelucasgrp (@chinchin, @kisume_au, @grillamericano). They were just awarded one of Australia’s Best New Restaurant by @gourmettraveller! We dined in the main restaurant (which spans across the first two floors) on a Saturday night, it’s lively, more formal, with an open kitchen, oyster and caviar bar and smoked mirrors. It also connects to their bar but I wouldn’t recommend booking this section for dinner unless you’re only ordering a couple of things, as the tables are very small. Next level up is Le Club which runs late Thurs-Sat with live performances and a reduced menu, while on the rooftop you’ll find La Terrace, my personal favourite - brings all the Parisian vibes, with its own slightly different menu. ✔️ Crab et Caviar en Brioche Toastée Finger Sandwich - lovely but teeny tiny!
✔️ Chopped Spicy Tuna Tartare, Avocado - a good combination and plenty of tuna!
✔️ Confit Ora King Salmon - perfectly cooked fish
✔️ Entrecôte Scotch Fillet - flavourful, charred, juicy!
➖ Eye Fillet - not as tender as usual for the cut
✔️ Pomme Frites
✔️ Mixed Green Leaves - simple, nice dressing!
🍫 Chocolate Mousse - served tableside for a little extra theatrics! I love this. It’s delicious, very sweet so share! I’d skip the small bites unless you’re happy to splurge - they really are tiny. But overall, we had a really lovely night. It’s not cheap but the food was good, the service was fantastic and the atmosphere was the cherry on top. It is one of the most beautiful restaurants in Melbourne, for sure.

Maison Bâtard offers a truly magnificent view — every angle is picture-perfect and beautifully designed. The ambience is elegant and relaxing. The food was decent, though not particularly outstanding. Service was mixed — one waiter was exceptionally attentive and polite, while another came across a little abrupt when handling payment. Overall, it’s a lovely venue to enjoy the scenery and atmosphere, but the overall experience was just average.
Vivian N — Google review
Maison Bâtard wants to be something. You feel it the moment you walk in. The place hums with energy. Dim light, chatter bouncing off the walls, the right kind of crowd for a Friday night in Melbourne. The room looks good, the vibe hits right. You expect a solid night. The waiter greets us and seats us. He’s polite, eager, but raw. The wine list is long, clearly built by someone who knows what they’re doing. The menu is short, tight, confident, at least on paper. Nobody explains it though. When I asked if the steak was dry aged, the waiter froze, blinked, and confessed he didn’t know what that meant. He ran to the kitchen, came back, and said it wasn’t. You can tell the staff hasn’t been trained deep enough to live and breathe the menu. Starters hit the table all at once, crowding the space. Then a long wait. Then mains. The rhythm was off, like a band that hadn’t rehearsed. The food was fine. You can see what they’re chasing, a bit of Reine & La Rue polish, but they don’t have the same finesse, precision, or soul. Maison Bâtard wants to play in the big leagues, but the small cracks show fast. For the price, you expect more than promise. You expect delivery. Would I go again? No. Not until they figure out who they really are.

Visited for lunch and ordered several bite size snacks and starters, followed by a main dish and a dessert. The snacks came out pretty fast which included: - Spanner crab tart and king prawn crumpet were both fresh, topped with caviar which was a nice bonus as it was not mention on the menu. Crumpet was a bit dry though which was a minor setback - Crab and caviar brioche toasties was savoury, soft and buttery with a bit of sweetness from the brioche - Lobster and leek croquettes has a crispy exterior with finely chopped up lobster filling which was pretty good but the leek sauce was a bit overpowering with the tangy citrus taste The starters were served shortly after I have finished the snacks: - Lobster omelette has a good amount of lobster meat which was soft and springy, not overcooked, and the crayfish sauce has a nice concentrated seafood flavour, though I think some pasta or risotto would pair better than with omelette - Crispy potato omelette consist of crushed salt potato chips wrapped with a thin omelette, drizzled with mayo and topped with caviar; very rich and flavour packed For mains, had the snapper en croute which is a snapper fillet baked with a crispy sweet brioche on top, paired with a buttery beurre blanc sauce. There was a few small pieces of pineapple which was interesting, adding a burst of sweet tartness to the bite. The fish was meaty and tender and paired well with the contrasting texture of the brioche. For dessert, there was quite a lot of choices but I went with their signature chocolate mousse served tableside. It was sweet and decadent, balanced with some chantilly cream, and the chocolate shards added some texture and blends nicely with the mousse. Overall it was a tasty meal with friendly and attentive service from the staffs.

Service: On arrival after booking well in advance we were offered a table in the bar, which I refused. They then wanted us to sit in the walkway near the kitchen, again I refused. We were finally seated at a reasonable table. If staff are allocated tables, these are the tables they should serve. We were served by many staff who asked the same questions. Very poor. Staff stood behind me talking loudly and folding serviettes, such tasks should take place back of house Champagne: Piper by the glass Wine: Henschke Shiraz - vg Food: entree salmon gravlax, this should have an accompaniment of blinis or bread Fromage soufflé, ok, not terribly hot, served with frisée lettuce Eye fillet - medium rare, bernaise sauce, served cold in sauce boat King George Whiting - delicious Bread Frites and Cauliflower with Comte Dessert- passion fruit crème brûlée-vg Overall - there should be a wider selection of Shiraz by the glass Food-check if everything okay during the main course Clearing-be aware of your table and clear appropriately. Cruets should be cleared after mains Music- level needs to be moderated based on talking noise in the restaurant An enjoyable evening, for a busy restaurant should hum. The bar is known for its flame-grilled steaks, featuring top-quality cuts like Wagyu and Black Angus. Visitors have praised the clean atmosphere and friendly service, with particular praise for the flavorful steaks and extensive beer and wine selection.
Fantastic! We came in for dinner on a Friday night, was very busy and we are lucky we booked! I came in during the week to enquire about what can be made gluten free as I was not able to get a response via email/landline. Waitress advised most things can be made gluten free which was great to hear. We ordered oysters and king fish for entrees, both were so fresh and so full of flavour! We then ordered an Eye fillet and scotch fillet and both were 10/10. The lemon dressed greens and massive bowl of Parmesan fries (also gluten free but not coeliac friendly) were also 10/10. We will be returning again very soon and probably mid week when it’s a bit quieter. Highly recommend!

May be pricey for some, but worth it! Perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. My partner and I went here for our anniversary and it was beyond amazing. The staff were friendly and attentive, atmosphere was relaxed and food was phenomenal. We shared a bottle of wine and our glass was continually topped by our waiter. Food was delicious and evenly spaced out. For some, the prices may be a little expensive, but I think the quality of the food is worth it.

Yan Melbourne is an innovative smokehouse that offers a unique twist on traditional Cantonese and Japanese cuisine by infusing dishes with smoky flavors. The menu features favorites like smoked chicken katsu with house-made barbeque sauce, braised winter melon with smoked almond cream, and coconut ice cream. Customers can opt for the 9-course chef selection, allowing them to choose from a variety of starters, smaller plates, mains, and sides.
Firstly a shout out to Sona who attended to us, she was patient, knowledgeable and perceptive to our curiosity. We thought we would try Yan through First Table which meant dining at 5pm. Expecting it to be quiet it was anything but that, diners were all pouring in. The restaurant had a never decor and ambience. The menu is not too complicated and offered variety through starters, big plates, sides and desserts. We opted for the custom banquet selecting our own 9 dishes. Sona suggested a few that were popular. Each item was really tasty and gave the mouth a new adventure. There wasn’t a single dish that was dull but our two standout favourites were the braised winter melon and the cauliflower. Followed by the quail and lamb. The coconut ice cream did not disappoint. From the reviews we knew we had to try it and it was delectable. Overall a nice dining experience and we’ll definitely be back though maybe not to do the banquet.

Had a wonderful dinner here a few months ago. Service was attentive. Food was fantastic. Honestly not a single bad bite. Portions were great. Ice cream was gigantic and filling! Ordered some extras as well such as the duck. Well worth it. Sides actually complimented the mains well. Not a side for the sake of a side. My friends ordered some cocktails and those were fantastic too. Would definitely return with more diners. Fantastic establishment!

The food was really good, and the drinks were nice. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. Asian fusion food like this can't go wrong! The smoked king prawns were amazing, and they came with a dipping sauce that was so tasty. The bass grouper was also delicious, fresh and cooked just right. Would definitely come back again!

Everything was wonderful! The food was delicious, and the staff were incredibly kind and friendly. It was my boyfriend’s birthday, and they even lit a candle to celebrate. Such a small gesture, but it felt so warm and thoughtful. At some restaurants, even when they know it’s a special occasion, they don’t do anything, which can make me feel a bit disappointed, so I was really touched that Yan made the effort for my boyfriend. We ordered the “Feed Me” set, and for only $88, we enjoyed a wide variety of delicious dishes. By the end, we were absolutely full! I even thought, “How is it so cheap for this quality of food and experience?” I especially loved the rice, I’ve never tasted rice like this before. It was so delicious I just couldn’t stop eating it. The lamb was also incredibly tender, with almost none of the strong smell it usually has. I didn’t even need a knife to cut it, just one bite and it melted in my mouth. It’s definitely worth the price for the food, atmosphere, experience, and wonderful service. I’ll be coming back to try other dishes, Yan is now on my list of favorite places in Melbourne! If I could give more than 5 stars, I would give 100 stars for this experience! I really want to try the coconut ice cream here, but it’s a bit too big for two people, so I haven’t had the chance yet. Hopefully Yan will offer a smaller version one day so I can finally try it 🥺.

My recent weekday dinner here was absolutely delightful! Every dish was outstanding, and I particularly adored the cold-smoked prawns – their plump texture and exquisite smoky fragrance were divine. The mocktail, a fantastic recommendation from the staff, was wonderfully refreshing and delicious. The staff were all friendly, striking that ideal balance of attentiveness and discretion, which created a comfortable atmosphere. With other intriguing dishes on the menu, a return visit is definitely a must!

Food was delicious 🤤 service was great. Beef was my favourite! The rice was one of the best I’ve tried. The flavours in everything was very unique. Loved the donut for dessert as well. We left very happy. Love trying new restaurants and leaving satisfied, especially when you can’t make it at home! 💜 only downer I would say is the mocktail I bought for $19, there was hardly anything in the small glass with a huge ice cube

We decided to try the First Table option @5pm and it was buzzing already. We opted for the feed me menu… We had the best date night with fantastic food and fantastic service. The waiters were great to chat with, they made us feel at home and we would definitely recommend it to friends. Everything was so yummy! We rolled out of the restaurant very happy!

This was our first visit to this restaurant and overall a delightful experience. When we arrived we were greeted with the host and were sat at the very end of the restaurant close to the kitchen area which had a lot of traffic and extra noises. The staff were helpful, polite and helped us go through the menu items. The drink menu however was not organized in a standard way and even the servers had a hard time showing us some of the drink items. Overall the menu is not extensive but every item on it has had a lot of thought behind it and they were designed and prepared according to the standards that you expect from a restaurant in this category. However all the main courses- especially the chicken katsu, lack proper seasoning and it was neither offered or placed anywhere to reach for. The MVP of this visit however was the magnificent Coconut ice cream that had a unique taste profile which was something completely different from what we had before. To be fair without this ice cream that I highly recommend to everyone, the experience wouldn't have been rated 4/5. Overall great experience and definitely for a relatively new restaurant in this category, plenty of room for improvement.

Cinder is a hidden gem with an elegant dining room powered by a Josper oven, offering a fantastic selection of steaks, pastas, and desserts. The intimate chef's table experience allows guests to savor the exquisite menu and make special requests. The atmosphere is perfect for a special dinner with excellent service and reasonably priced drinks. The stunning decor and comfortable seating create an inviting ambiance, while the attentive staff ensures that preferences are noted for a personalized dining experience.
We had one of the best dinners we’ve had in a long time at Cinder Restaurant. Everything was super tasty, the atmosphere was amazing, and we had the honour of being served by Chef Raphael Oka, a Michelin-starred chef. Highly recommend!!

Food was mostly great - raw tuna with beetroot was a standout but unfortunately the squid ink cracker was stale. Lamb ribs and steak were cooked well, accompanying sides were wonderful too (the carrots are the $2/bag types but the sauce was lovely). Service was slow and mixed — FOH seemed abrupt, but a new waiter made an effort. Despite arriving early with very few tables seated, our food came out very late. Atmosphere was warm and intimate.

Absolutely mind-blowing! By far one of the best stand houses in Melbourne. Very friendly and polite staff. Outstanding design and atmosphere. Magnificent menus and food options. Everything in the menu indiscriminately ranges from starter to desert taste out of this world. Words can't do justice in describing how amazing this place was and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Atmosphere / ambiance was amazing, service was attentive and the staff was so friendly. My friend had previously hyped this spot up to me and I can definitely see why! We tried the $110 pp chef set menu and every dish was cooked to perfection, you can tell it’s a very carefully curated menu and we loved each bite!

Look... Don't get me wrong, I want to give 5 stars. But given the prices of the menu items, I expected more. The food was amazing. Just a couple of nit-picks.. I ordered a Cube Roll steak, which now I know means 'Scotch Fillet'. However, it was a $62 steak so I expected amazing things. It was certainly a delicious steak which I ordered medium-rare, and it was. However it was very very chewy and under seasoned. I had to ask for salt. We also ordered the medium plate of Calamari. I was shattered that it wasn't a fries calamari, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was delicious! However being a 'medium' plate, I thought it would have been a decent size. Nope! It was tiny...and we ordered it to share! On the topic of Dining Experience, i know this place is 'fine dining' but honestly I think it can do better. We arrived at 7pm and we were starving. The staff don't give you the food menus right off the bat - they come later. By the time we ordered food as a group of 6, it was 8.30pm! Also the waitress just seemed like she couldn't be bothered and also forgot to ask how we wanted our steaks cooked and had to come and ask multiple times. Also the food menus was wayyyy too confusing, especially for a group of 6. Please simplify! So yes, overall slightly underwhelmed but I do think I'd return and try some other food

We had such a wonderful experience here! The food was absolutely delicious and full of flavor, and the staff were so warm and friendly throughout our visit. It was my partner’s birthday and they were kind to decorate desert with candle. Highly recommend this place for both the amazing food and the fantastic service!

I was a little hesitant about coming to Cinder at first. The overall rating was an impressive 4.8, but a few recent reviews had me worried—especially ones mentioning the steak being chewy. I was driving a fair way just to eat steak, and if it disappointing, I genuinely would’ve cried. That’s how much food means to me! 😆 From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Maz, who completely turned the experience around before we even sat down. I mentioned the reviews and asked if she recommended the steak. Not only did she take the time to explain the menu thoroughly, but she also addressed the recent negative feedback with total honesty. She didn’t make excuses—she took accountability as a leader and explained it came down to product knowledge, which they’ve since worked on. That alone already made me feel better. We ended up ordering the focaccia, scallops, lamb ribs, and the wagyu rump cap—and WOW. Every single dish was outstanding. The steak? Cooked to absolute perfection. My foodie heart was very, very happy. To anyone else hesitant after reading those reviews—don’t be. This place is incredible, and Maz’s warm service truly made it unforgettable. She went above and beyond, and honestly, I’ll be coming back just to see her again. To the owner: you’ve got an absolute gem in Maz. Look after her—she’s the perfect face of your restaurant. 10/10 experience. Will be raving about it to everyone!

What an amazing experience here. We went on Wednesday for lunch, and one of us got the Wagyu Wednesday deal, which was a steal. We had the wagyu, ribeye, smoked kohlrabi, fries, potato dauphinoise, and lemon tart dessert. Everything was great and tasted gourmet and unique. I particularly loved the wagyu and both potato sides. Very cool ambience and the waitress was friendly. It’s a gem of a steakhouse tucked away in a corner of Fitzroy. It would be almost impossible to stumble upon it.

Flint is a trendy restaurant in Fitzroy that offers a unique dining experience centered around open flame cooking and fermentation. The dark, incense-scented space features an open kitchen where sous chef Yukio Endo showcases his culinary skills. Guests can also enjoy the private mezzanine dining area with a view of the restaurant below. The menu at Flint focuses on snacks and hearty dinner options, all prepared with smoke and fire for exceptional flavors and textures.
Wow wow wow ! Flint did not disappoint, the food, drinks , service and the atmosphere nothing was left unturned. We had the best wagyu porterhouse we have ever had ! We sang and bopped away to the music which also complimented the whole experience. Thank you for giving us the best seat in the house and for making our Valentine’s Day even better.

Overall, food was delicious and charred perfectly. However, VERY long wait times due to only 1 chef cooking for the entire restaurant. First entree (not pictured) - bread with bone marrow butter. Absolutely delicious, light crispy yet soft bread paired with melt in your mouth butter. 2nd Entree - arrived after 1 HOUR wait. Blue eye tataki - little bit too sour, and for the price, small portion of fish provided. It was good but not worth the price. **Waitress came to ask us how the entrees were, and we asked for an ETA for the mains since we waited one whole hour for the second entree to come out. She very kindly offered to expedite our mains and it indeed did happen.** Pork chop - delicious flavour pairings with the pickled apple, however again it was too overly sour. The pork was a little on the dry side but the char was amazing. Lamb - absolutely divine. Perfectly cooked, soft, tender and flavourful. Favourite dish of the night. Possibly favourite lamb I’ve had anywhere too. Carrots - if I didn’t know the concept of this restaurant I’d think the carrots were burnt. The exterior was completely black. However it tasted great and paired well with the sauce. Although the sauce was again overly sour Overall a decent experience. Props to the one singular chef for busting her ass in the kitchen cooking up delicious food. Though I noticed a common factor of overly sour components in each dish. Needs improved time management to cut down the incredibly long wait time for food to come out. And thanks to the waitress for pushing our mains through, but I can only imagine that meant another table had to wait even longer for theirs. It’s a vibe to see one chef cooking up everything, so if that’s your thing and you have a few hours to wait for your food then it’s fantastic.

We've just gotten home from our five year anniversary at Flint and the whole drive we couldn't stop talking about this experience. From the moment you walk in you are hit with warm candlelight, smooth jazz, laughter and the amazing smell of fire, blessing food! The menu is curated spectacularly, every bite is sensational and to watch the incredible chef move in her kitchen is a show to behold. She's kind, warm and generous with her food and her attitude towards her customers. We had all of the starters and standouts have to be the smoked oysters and the pickles...though everything was incredible! For mains we had the pork chop...just wow and the carrot dish...I love carrots but that was insane, I've never loved carrots so much! The service was prompt, warm, friendly and sassy with great banter and even better cocktails! Thank you again Flint, we cant wait to see you continue to flourish!

Hands down one of my most favourite restaurants in Melbourne. Eccentric owner, amazing staff. Food was sooooooo goooood. That Bone Marrow butter? Outstanding!! Love love the burnt carrots and lettuce so much too ❤️

Went to Flint for my birthday and it was absolutely perfect! The staff were immediately so accommodating and helpful- made adjustments for dietary restrictions and helped us with all our ordering! We started with the smoked oysters and they were MAGICAL. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. The Burnt Lettuce was also incredible I’ve never tasted anything like it. If you like fermentation PLEASE GET THE PICKLES. We got the steak and pork for our mains. Absolutely speechless. Best steak I have ever had. The pork was great as well, but complemented with the Apple and leak- incredible. And I cannot forget the star of the show… the carrots!!!!! Best carrots I’ve ever had- genius dish! Overall I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. From the food that I will DREAM about to the welcoming and kind service- do yourself a favor and see it for yourself!

Known for their charcoal smoked dishes, Flint did not disappoint. Recommended dishes: - The carrot carrot 🥕 🥕 - Lamb rump - Burnt lettuce, yeah I didn’t know this was a thing? - Rainbow trout 🌈 🐟 The servers were great with their wine recommendations and friendly banter. The look of the restaurant had a fancy look but still a casual vibe. Smith St is also a trendy street to have pre or post dinner drinks.

(September 2023 update - Second time here now and still all the comments below apply). We had been recommended this new restaurant and we were super impressed on every level. The concept of creating dishes just with smoke and fire is not new, but the execution of their dishes is simply outstanding. The flavors, textures and overall taste of every dish we ate, were next level. Coupled with excellent friendly service and a great drinks list, Flint is setting a very high benchmark in Melbourne restaurants. An absolute must go.

I had such a great experience at Flint this week. Sitting in front of the kitchen was a real treat. The food was great from the bread, to the main, to dessert. Wonderful service, we were made to feel right at home. The staff demonstrated great wine knowledge, and helped me to select two glasses that I very much enjoyed. The wine list has an excellent selection of local, and international varieties. Highly recommended, and I am looking forward to my next visit.

Nestled in the heart of Melbourne's CBD, Marmelo is a stunning new addition to the city's dining scene, brought to life by the talented duo Ross and Sunny Lusted. This elegant restaurant boasts 90 seats adorned with luxurious banquettes and expansive windows that invite natural light, creating an inviting atmosphere for leisurely lunches.
Arguably Melbourne’s best take on Portuguese food, fine dining style. The spanner crab and croquette entrees were absolutely delicious, very well balanced flavours. The octopus was ever so slightly over-cooked for my liking, though still very tasty and the subtle curry sauce with lime was delightful.

Visited this Portuguese restaurant and it was an absolute delight. Even on a rainy weekday, the place was still bustling — a sure sign of its popularity. The venue has a very unique character: warm, inviting, and full of charm, making it a perfect spot for a memorable meal. As a big oyster lover, I was thrilled to see Sydney Rock oysters on the menu — fresh, briny, and simply perfect. The flavour was beautifully enhanced by their signature sauce, which is an absolute must-try. But the real standout here is the service. The team checked in often, ensuring everything was spot-on without ever feeling intrusive. Their attentiveness made me feel genuinely welcomed and well cared for. Overall: excellent food, outstanding service, and a wonderful atmosphere. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending it to friends.

A Portuguese inspired restaurant in Melbourne CBD! The restaurant has a large space, area for the bar, well spaced tables and seats overseeing the kitchen. Service was professional and was great to interact with the chef's whilst deciding what to pick from the menu. The ingredients and flavours were on point. A few stand outs were the croquette, warm oyster, seafood rice and the cheese cake. The seafood cooked on the wood fire oven was perfect. This restaurant is great for any occasion and has an extensive beverage list. Highly recommend and will come back next time to try their other dishes 😋😋👍👍

My partner and I came here for a birthday dinner. We sat by the kitchen and immediately got to see all the action and the food getting prepped. We ordered the iberico ham, croquettes, sweet bread, chicken, cheesecake and tarts. We got a little surprise treat too (chocolate with cherries) and that was a delight. While the food was smashingly good, what I found excellent was the excellent staff and the energy they brought, along with having some of our dishes brought to us by the head chef who took the time to explain how the meal was prepared. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Well done, Marmelo!

Wed 15/10/25 at 615pm- same day booking. Food was exquisite, service attentive, ambiance lively. Dishes were unique with unusual flavours but really tasty. Highlights: lamb sweetbreads, pork and the tomato rice. The olive oil cheesecake looked unusual but was divine! Had the set menu at $155pp and was very glad I did. Will be back

BRILLIANT.. SERVICE / FOOD / ATMOSPHERE Marmello is a newish Portuguese restaurant on Russell St in Melbourne's CBD. Slick service (without being stuffy or snooty) combines with a great menu for a great dining experience. Start your meal with a cocktail and a few starters.. you can't go wrong from there! You have to try the cheesecake.. it's light, fluffy, reminiscent of those Portuguese egg custard tarts that Hong Kong does so well, and with a salty crust! Not noisy and tables are generously spaced.

There’s just something about Melbourne — the staff at restaurants always seem that little bit warmer and friendlier, and Marmelo was no exception. It was a sharp contrast to my experience at Woodcut in Sydney (by the same owners), and we genuinely loved the welcoming atmosphere and how effortlessly attentive the service was. Our server and the sommelier struck that perfect balance of being knowledgeable without ever feeling overbearing, guiding us through the menu and wine selections with such ease. As for the food, it was a complete delight. Every dish felt vibrant and deeply comforting, with authentic Portuguese flavours that were beautifully balanced — from the fresh seafood to the heartier mains, everything was cooked with obvious care. Letting the sommelier choose regional wines to pair with our meal turned out to be a brilliant decision; he introduced us to some real standouts that complemented the dishes perfectly. Even better, since we were staying right upstairs at Hyde Melbourne Place, we could fully relax and enjoy the evening without having to worry about getting home. It all made for such a memorable experience, and we’d return in a heartbeat.

Nice to finally see the Portuguese cuisine in the upper scale of the Melbourne food and wine scene. With some slight blends of Spanish and Portuguese, the simple refined dishes of the motherland has been cooked and executed well. Salted cod croquette and mild hot (temperature) mustard poured over the waiters carving. Swordfish confit with peppers and salty anchovies drowned in nice olive oil was sublime. A panache of prawns, scallop and vongole sitting beautifully on a breaded sauce of fish stick, prawns and butter. Then there’s the cockerel that has been in a 24 hr brine, charred from the wood fire oven with a nice South African blend of slices and house made crisps which were slightly oily in taste. To finish up the baked olive oil cheesecake with lime zested over the centre was custardy, warm and not so heavily rich but just enough to fall into a food coma. Overall beautifully cooked and executed meals, service needs more attention but atmosphere could well be less quiet although there were only 4 tables occupied during Tuesday lunch.

Reed House is a British-inspired brasserie located near Caretakers Cottage. The owners, Mark Hannell and Rebecca Baker, draw inspiration from their experience in top London restaurants to create a menu featuring classics like Scotch eggs and roasts. Visitors praise the generous portion sizes and friendly staff, with one reviewer highlighting the delicious chicken and perfectly executed scotch egg. The restaurant offers a homey atmosphere and caters to various palates, with a must-try dessert being the Chocolate snap.
Truly lives up to the reputation as one of Melbourne’s best for a traditional Sunday roast. And some amazing martinis with warm and welcoming service. A lovely belated birthday lunch to remember!

Service and Atmosphere were perfect. Cannot fault it at all. The drinks were also stunning and all are highly recommended. Food in most part was super tasty. The only let down was the Porterhouse Steak and Anchovy Butter. While the steak was cooked beautifully, the anchovy butter is incredibly over powering and takes over the entire dish with saltiness. I would not recommend at all as it disturbs the otherwise beautiful food.

Fantastic night, amazing place with superber food and service. The feed me menu was defiantly worth getting with the price tag. Highly recommend the Ramen scotch eggs and defiantly upgrade to the porter house steak. The cocktail menu had a great range and something for everyone.

We are thinking of visiting for a while and few nights ago we made it there. Arrived a bit early (7PM-ish) and there were just few other tables but it got filled up very quickly. We've ordered Mushroom skewers, Pork & Pistachio Brawn, those amazing potato squares (like gratin), Honey Roast Chicken, Porterhouse Steak and Fresh & Pickled Veggies with beautiful Curried Onion dip. All prepared and presented well It does seem a simple dish but that Honey roasted chicken was simply AMAZING!!! as everything else indeed!! Very well presented, tasty to the brink, service was really friendly and attentive, not intrusive - so all in all - We must go there again! We are in out late 50's and what got us also was the music!!!! Blast from the past from probably nicest and safest era that was....80's & 90's Starting from Talking Heads, Morrisey, Joy Division, B52's, you name it!!!!! We were truly entertained and accompanied with few glasses of Sangiovese we were Done!!! We will go there again for sure and would encourage everyone to give it a go, no disappointments available!!! .....Relax and enjoy Reed House hospitality Jana & Boris

Great food but the thing that takes this place to the next level is the hospitality. The lovely lady who runs the place is welcoming and attentive and the chef came out a few times to serve and get feedback. The potato side dish is amazing - I’ll be back many times for that!

This was an interesting experience. As we approached we were very impressed. It looks like a great venue...until we were seated at the bar, despite there being tables available. Despite the beautiful wood of the bar it was not really deep enough to tuck your feet under comfortably... and no where to hang a bag. The music was loud and didn't really match the atmosphere. Was it heavy metal? The service was friendly and knowledgeable, however we never really felt any warmth. The food was OK - unfortunately nothing stood out. The scotch egg, which we were all excited to try, looked like it had been precooked and then just heated up for service. Nothing to write home about. The crumpet Welsh rarebit was disappointing- the crumpet itself appeared was good but where was the flavour and the cheese and mustard etc.? Is our disappointment simply the fact that UK food is nothing to write home about? None of our table was impressed and we agreed we wont be back.
