Very awesome restaurant that has a beautiful setting on the river with a very relaxed welcoming colonial atmosphere. The food and drinks are high standard and reasonably priced. The service is efficient and friendly. This is definitely somewhere you should at least visit once during you stay in Chiangrai

We came here for a relaxed Sunday lunch and sat outside in the garden, which has a lovely, peaceful atmosphere with lots of greenery and a charming old house setting. It felt very chilled and a great spot to linger over a meal. The menu is extensive, with plenty of Thai and Western choices. I went for a burger, which was tasty and well presented with crispy fries, while my friend tried the stew, which was enjoyable but a little on the watery side. The smoothies are also worth trying — there’s a wide selection and mine was refreshing. Service was friendly and unhurried, and it felt like the kind of place you could easily spend a couple of hours. Prices are fair considering the setting and portion sizes. Overall, it’s a beautiful café-restaurant with great ambience, a wide menu, and a nice balance between Western comfort food and local dishes. Would recommend for a laid-back lunch or to simply enjoy the gardens with a drink.

Chivit Thamma Da Coffee House, Bistro & Bar is an absolute gem in Chiang Rai and an essential stop for anyone visiting the area. From the stunning, relaxed riverside setting to the exceptional service, everything about this place is top-notch. ​The food, in particular, was sensational! We were completely blown away by several dishes. The chicken wings were simply delightful—perfectly cooked and seasoned. The fish salad was an absolute highlight; light, fresh, and bursting with amazing flavour. And let me tell you, the slow cooked beef stew is an absolute must order—rich, tender, and deeply satisfying. ​I will absolutely and whole-heartedly recommend this place to all my friends. A must if you are in Chiang Rai!

An impressive menu with an extensive range of foods, drinks and desserts. Excellent food, very attentive and efficient service, and a lovely serene and upmarket setting. We had the Australian beef stew, which was outstanding, the beef khao soi, which was absolutely delicious, bangers and mash (simple but delicious) and an egg white omelette with garlic bread (very tasty). Our server asked about allergies and made a spot-on recommendation about our son’s drink. Definitely worth a visit!

Really nice cafe overlooking the river, the No:1 motorway is fully in view but not really much noise, it’s just ugly and wouldn’t be correct not to mention it. Staff were very attentive, the food and drinks are on the expensive side but not stupid. Beer + coffee + two meals 775thb. Nice wee bits of interesting detail in the bar.

We just arrived in Chiang Rai and this was our first restaurant we visited. Yeap, the khao soi is a must-try! Also tried the pad thai and it was great too ✨

Took us a minute or two to fine this place but we had been given a strong recommendation and the chicken khao soi lived up to the expectations. We also had the Tom yum soup which was strongly flavoured with lemongrass. The lady took the time to talk about what she puts in the sauces and other details that I’m keeping secret 🤐

It wasn’t anything extraordinary, but it did the job well, especially if you're looking for a quick bite near the bustling night market. Per fried rice was around 60THB if I'm correct. The atmosphere was calm despite being close to a busy area, making it a good place to unwind after shopping or exploring the nearby streets. Tip: It's a great spot if you're in the mood for a quiet meal near the night bazaar, but don’t expect luxurious dishes—just simple, homestyle Thai food.

This was the first place we ate when we arrived in Chang Rai. Khao Soi was so delicious that we went back again and again.. so good, and so sad we could not try it before we left since they were closed for renovations.

We ordered a hotpot that came with a generous basket of vegetables and a large plate of meat, prawns, and cuttlefish—all for just 200 baht. It sounded too good to be true, so we asked three times to confirm the price—and yes, it really was that affordable! We also got vegetarian gyoza from another stall and finished our meal with a tasty box of mango sticky rice for 50 baht. There are many stalls offering a good range of local dishes, so it’s easy to find something you’ll enjoy. Highly recommend this place for a casual and budget-friendly dinner. By the way, we had a fabulous massage just a 3-minute walk away at Chiang Rai Nice Massage. Definitely worth checking out while you're in the area!

The Saturday Night Market in Chiang Rai is one of the most impressive and lively markets I’ve ever visited. Stretching for what feels like kilometers, the walk through the market is long and seemingly endless, filled with a vibrant mix of food, culture, and shopping. It’s a true sensory experience that captures the spirit of northern Thailand. The food selection is absolutely massive. You’ll find everything from Lanna-style rice dishes, fried pork and chicken, pad Thai, braised pork rice, to sweet treats like Thai pancakes, fruit desserts, and colorful cakes. I personally tried the fried omelette rice and fried pork—both were cooked perfectly, full of flavor and very satisfying. The tom yum soup I had was also rich and delightfully spicy, a perfect example of authentic Thai cuisine. Beyond food, the market offers rows of clothing stalls, handmade souvenirs, and traditional crafts. While most items are reasonably priced, it's good to stay aware of tourist mark-ups. Must do in Chiang Rai, this little Thailand town is most alive at night. Most of the vendors are sweet and no pressure. But some of the best deals we found on zipperless luggage, and clothes souvenirs were at this market. For example, I purchased a brand new crocodile skin wallet (2 tone), high quality for 950 TB ($29 USD). Crazy! The Thai food is always amazing and please interact with the Thai people, they are the best. Tip - take the Tuk Tuk taxi’s every you can, they are unforgettable! We got the “wild ride of Mr. Toad” more than once! Highly recommend the night bazaar!

Very different from the night markets in the South. Quiet and spread over a couple of streets, it has 2 central venues with a stage, one offering western music and another Thai music, both live. There are eateries surrounding the stage and has a party atmosphere about it. Kids running around and and parents doing their own things. Did so clothes shopping. The bust stand is the landmark if you have to Google maps it.

One of the best parts is the food court area, where you can sample an amazing variety of northern Thai street food—from grilled meats and noodle soups to sweet treats and fresh fruit smoothies. There’s often live music or cultural performances on stage, which adds to the warm, festive vibe while you eat. What makes this night bazaar stand out is its friendly, unhurried energy. Highly recommend stopping by this Bazaar if you are spending the night in Chiang Rai. It is a must! The food, clothes, and souvenirs are MUCH cheaper here than in Bangkok and Ayutthama. The live music is great and the food at Chiang Mai Night Bay is amazing.

Dinner time well spent at Hungry Wolfs Steak & Ale House 🥩🍽️ The food was absolutely delicious — every bite was full of flavor and perfectly cooked to my taste. It’s not only a great place for steak lovers, but also family-friendly, so the kids enjoyed their meal too!

Love this place! The food is really good and the menu is full of options, we also loved the atmosphere of the restaurant - it’s like a true American diner/beerhouse. But what I especially wanted to compliment is the service - the staff was super attentive to our dietary restrictions and we ended up having a great dinner. We ordered delivery from the same restaurant the next day and it was flawless - I especially recommend the Reuben sandwich here, that one is definitely my favorite. Not cheap, but good luck finding another one nearly as good around here (or another one period)

Hungry Wolf is hands down one of the best places to grab Western comfort food in Chiang Rai. Their burgers are juicy and flavorful, cooked to perfection every time. The Pizza Chicken Bacon Ranch is a must-try — cheesy, crispy, and packed with toppings. I also loved their mozzarella sticks — golden, crunchy on the outside and perfectly gooey inside. Portions are generous, and everything is freshly made. Whether you’re craving a classic burger or something cheesy and satisfying, this place hits the spot. Highly recommended!

The service was good and the atmosphere was nice. We ordered three dishes. The appetizer was tasty and enjoyable. The chicken pesto had a great sauce, but unfortunately the chicken had an odd taste and smell — it didn’t seem very fresh. The teriyaki salmon was cooked soggy. Overall, I wasn’t impressed with the main dishes and wouldn’t return.

Best Beef Brisket Burger and Meat pizza! Everything so delicious and very good price for the amount, the portions are so big, I would recommend if you order pizza for 2 with another dish to try, order the small pizza, we ordered large and it was too much, but still very yummy and tasty 😍

The food was delicious, best vegan burger I've had in Thailand. They make their own hot sauces too! The chocolate dessert is not to me missed. Such wonderful experience tasting the vegan burger, the tomato tangy base complement the patty well. Also try the three home-made sauces. There's no description for the sauces, so ask the kind lady chef to explain her wonderful creation.

I had the Karma Burger, which was absolutely fantastic, along with a very tasty drink and an incredibly inspiring conversation with the owner. A small shop along the road, with mother and son working and managing the shop, and with their cute little dog. In contrary to low star reviews, the lady welcomes us with much respect and care. She speaks some English phrases so we understand one another. She also gave welcome fruits and complimentary peanuts. Price is quite expensive over other local food but still reasonable with the serving. We were able to take home our leftovers and even the complimentary fruits. We highly recommend the pad thai in this place.

What a cute little place. The menu is huge and everything looks so good that is hard to make a decision. Food and Desserts are amazing. Beautiful location to stop and have diner after your visits the white and blue temples. Service is great!!!! The chef even came out to explain us questions about a dish. Great meal. Too bad that some guest complained that we were being too loud and asked us to keep it down. We were not being loud at all. Just five people enjoying a good dinner.

We came here twice. They have a nicely decorated European style café & restaurant. The coffee and tea and food are very good. Friendly staff and great river views. It's a quiet and charming place to feel relaxed and at home. The pizza has a thin crispy bottom and the cheese/mozzarella was good quality.

This café used to feel more lively when I last visited in 2021, but it still has a great atmosphere. The service was a bit slow this time, and the food and drinks were average. That said, it’s still a lovely spot for hosting events or private gatherings — the vibe during sunset is especially beautiful. If you haven’t been here before, it’s definitely worth a visit!

Located on the Kok River, this cafe has a lovely English garden setting!!! The menu features a mix of Thai and fusion dishes, and the taste was pretty good!!! You can enjoyed the outdoor seating area with the river views. This is a nice place to relax!!!

Beautiful manor house by the Mae Kok river. The Melt in Your Mouth restaurant & Cafe is the best! The cheese cake is a Japanese version, it was quite chilled when served so wait and let it warm so the cheese softens before eating. 145baht. Coffee expresso 60baht. The salad also looks good.

This is a nice restaurant facility and location. The outdoor seating is wonderful. The food was quite disappointing. The “American” style dishes are off the mark, the Thai inspired dishes lack a complex flavor profile I expect in Thailand. And I’m sure the the corn/carrots/peas were ether frozen or from a can. The “pizza” was absolutely horrible and I believe it was from a frozen pizza.

Chiang Rai Walking Street on Saturday nights is a vibrant feast for the senses! Tons of delicious local food and unique handmade goods from friendly vendors. A must-visit for a taste of local culture. Remember, parking is unavailable, so hop on public transport for easy access!

There was, of course, a wide variety of food vendors. What was different from the night markets I've been to before was that they also sold non-food items like clothes and toys. It was a really huge night market.

What a great market. So much on offer and so much to see. If you are going to come here when they are on don't go eat during the day wait till you get here and stay all evening it's worth it also with live entertainment (weather permitting)

The setting suggests a premium dining experience, and the relatively high prices on the menu reinforce that expectation. Unfortunately, the reality doesn’t live up to the promise. While there are staff present, the basic table setup is missing—no cutlery, no plates, no napkins—leaving guests to wait or ask for essentials that should already be there. The service itself feels unprofessional. During the meal, three waiters stood nearby, staring, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere and a lack of privacy. As for the food, it’s clear that little effort went into its preparation. Despite the high prices, the dishes arrive quickly and taste bland, lacking the quality and care one would expect from a restaurant in this price range. In short, De Lanna Riverfront Café has the look of a great restaurant, but beneath the surface, it falls flat due to poor service, a lack of basic table standards, and uninspired food.

We had a splendid diner in a great environment, romantic view over the river, the portions are bigger as usual. The fried fish northern style was the best ever, made in delicious herbs and served ready to eat. The Thai dessert was at first sight simple but omg this was so mouthwatering we could order a second one. The service was excellent, fast and efficient

They have a variety of khao soi with different proteins aside from your standard chicken and beef. They have sea bass and ribs which is what I ordered plus an order of spring rolls and pork satay. You order by marking on the order sheet and then bring it to the cashier. Then pay after you finish eating. There is a table in the middle of the restaurant to grab your toppings and ice. It was a good portion and tastes good. I do prefer my noodles to have a bite to them and not just soft. I would skip the appetizers and stick with the khao soi. The pork satay was tough and chewy and the fried spring rolls were meatless.

Before we left Chiang Rai, we visited Khao Soi Thao Gae Ek for brunch... We ordered Khao Soi (one is Pressed Pork and another one is Beef), Stir-fried Minced Pork and Holy Basil with Egg and Rice, and Pork Satay which all are delicious. But what I like the most is they have a buffet of Khao Soi's side dishes to provide. Very impressive 😊

Saw this in place in a YouTube video from the Roaming Cook so I thought I would give it a try. The food was pretty decent. The Khao soi had its flavor on point Crispy pork, that's different. Spicy the way I like it. Also had some fried bird of some sort. Was Yummy as well. Was marinated and fried. I also took some food to go for me mum. She had fried rice and pork satay Over all it was a good lunch outing.

The best Khao Soi we had in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai. The broth is super tasty, not so sweet like other places. The pork belly in there was superb, crispy and tender. Also the spring rolls and dumplings were really tasty. The staff is super friendly at all times. If you want a really good Khao Soi you can go there for sure!

Recently visited the shop and overall I had a great experience. The taste of the food is really good, the flavors were satisfying and well seasoned. They served the generous portions. One things I appreciated was the multilingual staff and able to communicate in Thai, English and Burmese. It is solid choice for anyone looking for a healthy meal. Definitely consider to visit again.

This was quite honestly one of the best things I’ve eaten in my life. For 40 baht!! I walked in and a very nice man asked if I eat pork and spicy. I said yes, he asked which noodle. I chose the skinny one and he told me to sit down. They brought out this amazing soup. It’s spicy. I don’t know what they do to the pork, but it’s absolutely amazing. The noodles taste fresh and are so delicious. It comes with a large side of sprouts. The soup also has a lot of blood jelly, which isn’t my favourite so I left most of that behind. It’s very oily, but so so good. I went at 11am on a Saturday in July and it was pretty busy with locals. There is small medium and large. Small was plenty for me. It was 40 baht !!! So well priced.

The soup is very good, the flavor is strong. But the beef I ordered was too tough to chew without effort. I think this shop is overrated. It's not as good as I thought if compared overall. The pork casserole was hard as if it had been there for a long time. People were fussing about it. It wasn't worth waking up early to join the queue to eat the overgrown people.

The taste is same like other shop. A greasy soup, foods over here is quite spicy though. The coconut curry with rice noodles is much better if you don't like oily soup.

The food was very delicious and clean. Prices might be a bit high, but considering the ingredients and quality, it's definitely worth it. I highly recommend the crispy pork – it's truly delicious and crispy. The entrance to the alley might be a little narrow, but the restaurant has ample parking.

The food is excellent and the prices decent! Ate here twice during our short stay in Chiang Rai. We especially liked the crispy pork. Chinese broccoli was good too.

Oh man!! Such amazing food! The place is very simple and hidden on a small street but the food was fantastic. Simple makes perfection sometimes. We ate so much that we had to cancel our other plans and go back to the hotel to lay down. The food was very inexpensive (around 60 baht). The people were great. They don't speak a lot of English but they speak enough to get you everything the way you want it. We were in northern Thailand for 15 days and this is the place we liked the most. We went to fancy restaurants and many street food vendors, but this one hit different. If you are looking for a nicer place with fancy decor, this is definitely not the place. But if you want local food with home made taste, this is the place to go.

It's a bomb - that's basically the definition of a good meal - fried Barramundi fish was amazing, goes perfectly well with the mango salad, my 200 baht side dish portion was huge. Pork bone soup was so good, soft meat, amazing taste. Pork leg was also good. So, discover this local gem to feel rejuvenated and totally satisfied. I would rate it higher, if I could. A must visit. All ingredients are top quality, fresh, cooked to perfection. Don't judge the book by its cover - the dishes are restaurant quality. Menu in English. Chef Keng is not a grandma as was mentioned in a previous comment, it's a handsome man with a mustache 😉

(November 2023) The menu was very extensive but the crab omelette dish immediately caught my eyes and I think it was one of the most delicious & pleasant meals I’ve had in my life so far 🥺 The food here was inexpensive, we paid 200 THB for three dishes. The kitchen was very lively the whole time and the seating was outdoors.

I had the pleasure of eating at Khun Yay by Chef Keng on my recent visit to the area. The restaurant offers some of the tastiest and most reasonably priced Thai food I have ever had. The ingredients are all fresh and expertly prepared. The menu features traditional Thai dishes such as Pad Thai, Tom Yum Soup, and Kai Kaaw. The restaurant also offers a variety of special dishes. I particularly enjoyed their Bang Mank, a Burmese specialty. Other dishes included Stir Fry Chicken, Fried Rice and Mango Sticky Rice. All of these dishes were beautifully presented and incredibly flavorful. The service was friendly, helpful and very attentive. The staff was more than happy to answer all of my questions about the dishes on the menu and offer suggestions. All in all, I am very pleased with my experience of eating at Khun Yay by Chef Keng. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for delicious Thai cuisine at an affordable price.
