Nice location but honestly the empire breakfast I received was 100% not worth the 2800 rupees they charge. Can get better and cheaper in central London and that says a lot. Beans were cold and tiniest portion of spinach/mushrooms. Also the “sausage” was just a hotdog.

We had dinner and breakfast here during our time in Kandy and it was good. A great thali one evening and a nice breakfast. Helpful service too and conveniently located near the lake.

Arrived here after visiting the tooth Relic Temple as it's situated right next to it. 1450 for rice and curry is expected for tourist price and tasted really good. Food arrived quickly. However, kotthu didn't taste very nice and we ordered some cokes that didn't taste nice nor like the branded Coca colas. Drinks are of high price.

Food was OK. But a bottle of sparkling water is more expensive than the dish. Exaggerate. Nonsence

Stopped for drinks in their outside area by the road which is a lovely spot. The vibe is perhaps a little drab but the history of the place is cool where you can clearly see its former hotel layout. Service was good if not a little expensive.

We had to wait a few minutes outside till a table became vacant, as we visited Balaji Dosai during a busy dinner time. As the staff informed that it takes time to prepare Masala Dosai, I ordered a Kara Dosai. It was spicy, tasty & did not disappoint. The vegetable fried rice was good as well.

Dosa are really delicious here! ❤️ You have a whole range of dosa here. We had an Onion dosa (500LKR), Ghee dosa (600LKR) and a Paper dosa (500LKR) which were really tasty.🤤 You have to go to the cashier, pay and order yourself at the beginning. So a tip would be, ask someone to go get a table and the other can straightaway go to the cashier and make the order. Highly Recommended!!🎖️️🍽️ We went to this place few months ago to get the breakfast. The waitors were busy and it took some time to order the food. We ordered a poori set and a papaya 🍹. It took about 10 mins to receive the order. The poori set was very 😋. They maintain a clean environment. We also had tried food from this place several years ago. My favourite was ghee doasi at those times. If you are looking for vegetarian options and a tamil foods, never miss this place.

I had a very unpleasant experience at Hotel Balaji today. While having my meal, I found a worm inside the curry, which was extremely disappointing and unacceptable for any restaurant and the premises management ignored like a it was normal thing.Am writing to this raises serious concerns about hygiene and food safety practices. I hope the management takes immediate action to ensure better cleanliness and food handling standards in the future.

We went to Balaji Dosai in Kandy and had a dosa so crispy it could double as a frisbee 🥞, and the poori? I visited this place recently. The service was good and the food overall was decent. I had the fried rice — it was average, nothing special. However, there were two main issues that stood out. First, the environment was extremely noisy, almost like a marketplace, which made it hard to enjoy the meal peacefully. Second, the cleanliness needs serious improvement — the tables and floor didn’t look well maintained. Also, they don’t accept card payments, which was quite inconvenient. With a few improvements, especially in cleanliness and ambiance, this place could be much better.

went for sunset, stayed for happy hour. good view but unfortunately did not see the sunset as it was cloudy. but the view at night- amazing! servers were very kind! good atmosphere at night when the live music starts. switched to party music a bit later but couldn’t complain when you’re a few drinks in food was really good too. had the nachos and some beef. a good mix of tourists and locals coming in.

I visited Slightly Chilled Lodge in Kandy today with my family for dinner. We tried several dishes including French fries, cashew nuts, chicken fried rice, seafood fried rice, beef fried rice, a sweet and sour beef dish, a sweet and sour chicken dish, tomato and cucumber salad, chicken noodles, a fruit platter, and a few mocktails. The food didn’t taste as I expected. It was okay, but not particularly good, and definitely not memorable for a family dinner. Pork was listed on the menu, but when we requested it, we were told it wasn’t available, which was disappointing. The ambience was fine if you’re there to relax with a beer and enjoy the atmosphere. There was also live music, with a musician playing guitar and singing English songs, which added a nice touch. The lighting was quite low, so the photos I took turned out dark — not really a complaint, more just the mood of the place. On the positive side, they do accept reservations, and when we arrived, our table was already reserved and ready for us. The cost worked out to around 2,700 LKR per person, and I don’t feel it was worth that price for the quality of food we received.

It is really a nice place, atmosphere and food are amazing! Here you can have an amazing view to the big Budha. I had seafood noodles that was really fresh and tasty and my boyfriend had a burger that also was delicious.🥘🍔 But my favourite thing was the Banana milkshake and the mango Juice, please try it!🥤🍺 Also our bill was a bit expensive because we had many drinks 🤭 but here the prices are honesty and the portions are good. There is a Pool table that is really fun to spend some hours playing!( and is free to play)🥳 Even the owner of the place came to join us! We really appreciate all the kindness from the staff and owner...made us feel very welcoming here in Kandy

We had an epic time at Slightly Chilled in Kandy! Sunset views are stunning, the beers were ice-cold, and the vibe was perfect for two spice-crazed adventurers. We started with the Sichuan chicken and spring rolls. The staff warned us the chicken was fiery… and of course we said, “Bring it on!” One bite later, our mouths were on fire, but we were impressed. Then the owner overheard our spice obsession and dropped the Taiwanese spicy sauce bomb—our taste buds screamed, sweat poured, tears flowed, but the beers kept us alive. We ended up chatting with the owner about our love for fiery food and how on earth Sri Lanka became the choice and end up being this amazing, trading laughs and borderline dangerous spice challenges. If you want insane views, friendly staff, and food that will literally set your mouth on fire while making you laugh, this is your spot.

What an unbelievable gem tucked in a hilly corner of Kandy! After a trip through Sri Lanka that was outstanding except for the music on offer (Trax in Ahangama being a notable exception), I chanced upon SCL in Kandy. The owner is a passionate DJ who uses a rare ARS rotary mixer and plays some groovy downtempo and house music. The views from this place are great too. The staff were alert throughout and very keen to make sure everything was fine. Big ups!

If you're going to Kandy, I don't think I could recommend anywhere higher than Slightly Chilled. More than Slightly Chilled beer (excuse the pun) Great Food and host Michael made it special for me with his personalised service. I was lucky to be there on a Saturday with very talented Ranga supplying the tunes. A must go!

Reasonably priced (~100-500 LKR) street side cafe. We forgot to make lunch plans so found this place which is right across the street from the botanic gardens. We only ordered ready to go food and it was good (not great). My veg roti wasn't warm however and the shopkeeper wouldn't heat it for me. Also- to note they wouldn't make change- even for a small bill (500).

I visited The Bakehouse in Kandy and was impressed by the service. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and very attentive. The atmosphere has a very local feel, which made the experience quite authentic. There are plenty of dishes to choose from, and the menu offers a wide range of options. Personally, I found the traditional Sri Lankan food a bit challenging as the strong aromas and spicy curries were new to me, so it wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. However, I really enjoyed the tea they served, which was excellent. The restaurant is conveniently located right opposite the KCC shopping mall, making it easy to find. While the food may not have suited my taste, I would still recommend this place for its service, atmosphere, and authentic local experience.

At the time of this review you can buy String Hoppers breakfast for around Rs.300-400 which includes two different curries and sambol. usually they provide string hoppers with Dried sprat Curry,Coconut sambol and a Dhal curry.You can also select different options with different curries which may change price.

Had the unfortunate privilege of trying one of the worst fried rice I’ve ever tasted. Despite the 5-star pricing but taste and presentation is ewww. 👎. Before charging premium rates, it might be wise to first understand how to properly cook fried rice and what it actually the meaning of fried rice.. Really Disappointed

The place is clean, well-maintained, and offers a wide variety of food options under one roof. For around Rs. 300 per person, you can enjoy a satisfying meal with plenty of different items. They serve Sri Lankan, Tamil, and English-style dishes, so there’s something for everyone. From roti, kiribath, dosa, wada, udu wada, pittu, and idiappa (string hoppers) to rice and curry, sweets, burgers, and fresh drinks — the choices are endless and all freshly made. Excellent choice of top quality local foods in this food court. Make a note/photograph what you like, then pay at the till (cards accepted) and then hand over tickets to collect your choices at the different counters. All the Food is freshly prepared by local women and helps to support their families. The hopper didn’t make the photo as it’s was too delicious.

Great local food! You know its really local quality and super affordable, when the place is filled with hungry sri lankans. After conversion we paid around 2.50€ or 3$ for a meal of two! The cooks were also super nice and friendly and really helpful

Vito Wood Fired Pizza is a true standout! The pizzas come out of the traditional wood-fired oven with a wonderful smoky aroma and flavor. Super speedy service despite the restaurant being busy! We had no wait for a table witjout a reservation I think we got lucky. Lots of delivery orders foing out too. I had a very disappointing experience. The food I ordered was not worth the price at all – the presentation was poor and not appealing. At around 9.30 pm, I was told that the kitchen was already closed, which was very inconvenient. On top of that, I ordered a Coca-Cola and what was served in the glass didn’t even taste like Coke – it was either mixed with water or completely flat. Honestly, the overall experience was very unpleasant.

I recently visited Vito Woodfired Pizza in Kandy, and it was an absolute delight. The pesto pizza was one of the best I’ve ever had, perfectly baked with a rich, aromatic flavor. Came here for lunch from Kandy viewpoint. Walk past Amanda guest inn for 50m, there is a staircase leading down to the street where the restaurant is located. Do not follow Google map as it will lead you to go a big detour. Prices are very reasonable. Had a medium teriyaki chicken pizza which is just nice for 1. Mix of locals and tourists here. Was assigned the outdoor area which was easy, breezy beautiful lol and offers partial view of the lake. Very calm, peaceful and away from the city.

Vito Wood Pizza is a hidden gem! Their wood-fired pizzas are absolutely delicious – crispy base, fresh toppings, and great flavor. It’s located just below Vibe Villa, which makes it super convenient for guests staying there. Parking is limited but manageable. There’s just enough space for a few vehicles right in front of the building, though the road is a bit narrow and on a slope. If you’re coming by car or van, be prepared for a tight fit, but it’s doable. All in all, a great spot for a tasty meal in a cozy setting. Definitely worth a visit!

Found the spot from Trip Advisor and went there cuz of the ratings. It was hard to find the place as the name board was unreadable and washed off. Inside was clean. The service was good. Had the Nutella Rolled Ice-cream and it was nice. If you're going there, make sure you have cash because card payment is not available.

It was a fun outing after a hot afternoon. Loved the fried coconut, and the gentleman who served us was great. Dropping it to 4 stars because at least half the menu items were not available.

Visited this place again after 2 years. Quality has gone down a bit now, most of the items in the list that we wanted were sold out, and then we ordered a milkshake, choco flash and a green tea ice cream. Milk shake was not that good, the choco flash was more like banana flash. It didn't mention it has banana in it. And then the green tea ice cream tastes nothing like green tea. More like vanilla ice cream.. The flavours on the menu's doesn't add up with the taste of them. And cherry on top of the cake, they don't take card payments. Ice cream in general was good just didn't match up to the flavours it was listed.

I waited almost 6 months to get a chance to try the fried ice cream at this place! It was a worthy wait and an awesome experience to remember the last day of 2018! We tried the Banana Split and the Passion Fruit Ice cream. Both were tasting sooo good! Even the prices were reasonable. There is parking for one vehicle but I managed to find a public parking close by. Most of their ingredients are halaal but for one or two ice creams they add some non halaal products which they are Keen in educating us.

The Soy Rotti was flavorful and delicious, the Soy Chinese Rolls were good, and I ended with a Soy Ice Cream that was refreshingly tasty. The prices are also reasonable.

Went because I’d always wanted to go there. We just had a soy rotti, soy cutlet and a soy pattie All 3 were meh. Not exceptional, but good quantity for the price and filling. Then had an ice cream cuz that’s apparently their specialty. It was alright and the amount was huge. But I guess I had unreasonably high expectations for taste Would we come again, yes if in the vicinity. But I won’t go out of my way for the experience again :)

So special to find vegan soft serve ice cream! It’s a little icy compared to what I remember of soft serve, and the flavor is a bit salty (but good!) If you eat milk, it’s probably not an exact replica, but it’s a very tasty cold treat. Also enjoyed the soy ball filled with a well balanced, not too salty savory filling, and a soy bun. Very welcome surprise to find vegan soft serve ice cream on my trip in Sri Lanka! Has a unique slightly salty savoury taste but it looks and feels like ice cream and it's cheap so very nice on a hot day. The soya wrap is also tasty

Unexpected little gem of a restaurant. It was recommended to us by someone we met at our hotel. It’s a very small shack tucked away a little off the beaten track. Downstairs was full so we sat upstairs on low stools. The room was somewhat shabby and sparse. However, we were made very welcome by the staff. The menu is small, but interesting veggie/vegan fare. We chose the two ‘bowl’ dishes along with fruit juices. Our food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Both my wife and I savoured every mouthful. The serving was filling, but so tasty that I could definitely have eaten more. The food is 100% value for money. Overall, a really good place to grab a quick and tasty bite.

This is a hidden gem in Kandy which is great place for vegan food. The approach road is a bit dark at night but it is a safe place. Staff is very attentive. There is outdoor seating, small indoors and then small place upstairs with lots of books, games and low seating. The food is amazing and portion size is generous. We had the noodle salad with tofu but what stood out was the jackfruit burger with sweet potato fries. All in all an excellent place for quiet evening meal! 10% service charge is added to the bill.

After a tiring day we went to have dinner & there are nice vegetarian & vegan options. We just ordered a pumpkin soup & a jackfruit burger. That’s the first time I ever had a jackfruit burger and it was delicious. It comes with some fried sweet potatoes to dip and eat with some ketchup. I do recommend this place to vegetarian & vegan people. If you visit kandy do not miss this place!

The staff were friendly and informative, but the prices were a little high considering what you get. The atmosphere wasn't very cozy. You get more for your money elsewhere. Maybe we missed or didn't order the great food others are talking abouty although it was really okay. It's just the price and atmosphere.

This pub is great! It's right in the middle of Kandy, perfect for evenings. The staff are really nice, and the food is good and cheap. Some drinks are a bit pricey, though. The music on weekends is amazing! The place could use a bit of fixing up, especially the inside seating areas and the bathrooms, but overall, it's a fun place to be.

Very average but the street view of Kandy was nice. The meal potion size was good but the taste was average. The waiter was very polite however got the order wrong. One of the few places in Kandy to get a drink after hours.

Decent food, but it took far too long to get the food. What’s worse is that it arrived one dish at a time. We were five people and by the time the second person’s food arrived, the first person had already finished their meal. The last person had to wait an hour for his dish. They also didn’t have half of the things on the menu.

Despite obviously being designed for Western (mainly British) tourists, we actually had a really good meal here as a group. The Special Kottu, and sizzling dishes, were really good, staff very friendly and helpful to our big group. Not sure about the music and videos - was a mix of Westlife and Sinatra when we were there - but was a good laugh. Very reasonable prices too, and plenty of good beer.

The staff are very professional, attentive, and treat customers with real respect — really adds to the experience. I did miss the two friendly dogs who used to be around, they always made the place feel extra welcoming. We ordered the “For the Love of Bacon” Pizza and “Hideout Loaded Manioc.” The manioc was absolutely delicious — full of flavor and perfectly done. The pizza didn’t have much flavor this time, but that’s okay — next time I’m definitely going for the pork chops, they were amazing before! Had some beer with the food, which is always a good combo here. Unfortunately, we missed the rooftop bar since it opens at 5 p.m., but definitely planning to check it out next time. Overall, one of the best spots in Kandy to relax, enjoy good food and drinks, and take in the beautiful lake view. Highly recommend it!

Absolutely loved the vibe at Hideout Lounge! The atmosphere is stylish yet relaxed, with great music and a creative design that captures the charm of Kandy. We had a lovely dinner with friends at EU41 Lounge. The food was tasty, the service quick, and the atmosphere very pleasant — great design, good vibes, and plenty of space. A funny highlight: as we were leaving, one guy was live-streaming while giving someone a haircut right there outside the lounge! Really cool and unexpected. Overall, a spacious and stylish place that’s definitely worth a visit.

We had a new dish, the Zucchini Carpaggio which was really good and filling. The vegan meatballs was delicious and light and tasted really good! Mithu had some great recommendations on the food and the drinks and was super helpful throughout the evening :)

We went to Hideout a few times during our stay in Kandy and absolutely loved it! The food and drinks were great, and the atmosphere was so welcoming. The staff were all super friendly, we really enjoyed our little chats with them each time we visited. Such a lovely spot to enjoy good vibes. Definitely recommend!

A pleasant place, tastefully decorated and without excessive colorfulness. The food is delicious and the drinks are cold, rich and refreshing. It's a bit of a problem for parking because it has a limited number of places. You need to announce yourself. The terrace above is spacious and nicely decorated and has excellent air circulation, which is very important here. The prices are affordable and you can have a nice lunch for 12-20 euros per person with a drink.

Such a cool place, great atmosphere, food was perfect, could not fault. Exactly what we wanted. Hard to explain what fusion this place is…. But whatever it is it’s great! Good prices. Does need some fans/cooling if I had to picky.

My recent visit to Natural Coffee was quite disappointing. The service was slow, with staff taking an inordinate amount of time to address our needs, including not offering water until we asked. Additionally, the cleanliness was lacking plates were not properly cleaned. The chopsticks were reused and not clean. Even though we felt disgusted we had to try them coz it was our first time that we try those food. And also coz of the price range.These factors combined to create a frustrating dining experience. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant based on my visit.

I visited Cafe Natural in Kandy yesterday, and it was a complete disappointment. The coffee was absolutely terrible—one of the worst I’ve ever had. The place was not clean at all, making it an unpleasant environment to sit in. The service was just as bad. I ordered an almond cake, but it was as hard as a rock—completely inedible. When I asked for water, they did provide it, but by then, my experience was already ruined. Overall, I would never recommend this place to anyone. Definitely not worth the visit!

The coffee and desserts here are really good. The last time we visited, we tried the cheesy ramen, and it was extremely salty, but other than that, everything else was enjoyable.

I recently ordered from Natural Coffee, and here’s what I got. Katsu Don – 1900 LKR Tuna and Corn Sushi (7 pieces) – 1900 LKR 3 Onigiri/Rice Balls – 400 LKR each Katsu Don At 1900 LKR, the portion was very small—only about 3/4 of a small cup. The taste was disappointing, lacking the authentic Japanese flavors you’d expect. Given the portion size and quality, it wasn’t worth the price. Tuna and Corn Sushi This was the most disappointing dish. Although I was assured the tuna would be raw, it arrived cooked—and in a very small amount. Most of the roll was filled with corn and cucumber (which wasn’t even listed on the menu). It felt like cucumber was used to stretch the filling and reduce the amount of tuna. The wasabi provided was tiny and didn’t taste or look authentic. At 1900 LKR, this sushi was a letdown. Onigiri/Rice Balls These were far from traditional onigiri. Made with brown sticky rice, they were flat instead of the usual triangular shape. The menu said they were chicken-filled, but I barely found any chicken. At 400 LKR each, they were more like plain rice patties. Summary While the prices seem reasonable, the small portions and lack of quality make this a poor choice. The food doesn’t deliver on taste or authenticity, leaving you disappointed.

Buono was one of the best cafés I went to in Kandy. The calm and simple design makes you feel at ease as soon as you walk in. The coffee I tried all had a rich smell, a smooth texture, and was made with care. The Coconut Coffee was my favorite. It was creamy, smelled great, and had the perfect mix of coconut sweetness and strong espresso. It's cool and different, which is great for Kandy's tropical weather. You have to try the iced version! The desserts and light snacks are also good and go well with the drinks. Everything they serve tastes fresh. The upstairs area is quiet and peaceful, making it a great place to read, talk, or work. The staff is nice and helpful, but the café can get busy, so service can be slow at times. The staff is friendly and really cares about how you feel, which makes the place feel warm. In general, Buono is a great place to get a good cup of coffee, relax, and unwind. If you love good coffee and are in Kandy, don't miss their famous coconut coffee. It could become your new favorite!

Honestly, we spent a few more hours in here per day than we expected, and came back every day of our trip to Kandy.

We had a very good dinner in this lovely restaurant! The host is a friendly and kind man that serves the food with love. There isn’t really a card to chose your food from. It’s more 1 menu that includes a soup, main dish, dessert and tea. After dinner he played us some songs on the gituar! We enjoyed this evening so much!

We were spontaneously looking for some Sri Lankan food and came across this place offering a Sri Lankan buffet – we thought, why not? From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed. The owner is such a kind and genuine person – he even sat with us and shared stories about Sri Lanka. The buffet was hands down the best we’ve had in the country so far – incredibly flavorful and authentic. After dinner, he played the guitar and sang for us – it turned into one of the most beautiful evenings we’ve had in Sri Lanka. Truly unforgettable! If you plan to go, make sure to give him a quick call to reserve a spot – that way, he can plan how much to cook. Totally worth it!

Went here just for dinner, for just the two of us they cooked a full buffet of delicious vegetarian local food. Host was very friendly and even played some songs for us. Would highly recommend!!

Poor maintenance. Dusty hanger and bath room. I went my elderly mother, they gave us a room at 4th floor. It doesn't have lift. So I asked them to provide a room at ground floor or 1st floor. The rooms were available but those heartless people didn't provide that. My mother with knee pain, had to use stairs. And their customer communication is also rude.

Such a fun night - the food was authentic, generous and made with love. We felt we'd been invited to a family dinner with the crazy, loveable, funny uncle that everyone loves to spend time with. We were there with two other groups- as soon as Faiz got his guitar out, the room little up and the night turned into a sing-along. A night we won't forget, and sure to be a highlight of our 3 week visit to this wonderful country.

Avoid staying here, Raddison hotel a few doors down will be a better choice. Booking was done back in August for a group of us and they were not ready for us. They did not have any rooms ready when we arrived to check in. After being out for almost 4 hrs we returned after they agreed all rooms would be ready for us. Absolute terrible condition rooms with bathrooms not cleaned after previous guests with toilet filthy and shower absolutely disgusting. Our bathroom door has a plastic bag for door handle,very poor appearance. Air conditioning does not work. There is hair and dirt all over the floor. One of the bed covers has mould spores on it,second bed has what looks like blood stains on and I am not uneven going to pull the cover back. Second room has cracks on most walls,looks like it can fall it weight is pushed against it. We are still awaiting for a key for the one room,the manager was coming to see us to bring the key.After 3 hours later,he is still not here. Absolutely terrible service.

This so-called “hotel” is a complete disaster and a total scam. Please, for your own peace of mind, never ever book Sharon Inn, Kandy — no matter what good reviews you see online. I can’t believe how people rated this place high — maybe for the breakfast years ago, because the rooms and service are beyond disgusting now. We booked this dump for two nights. The owner himself did the check-in late at night — an arrogant, rude old man who clearly hates guests. The way he behaved was shocking — zero manners, zero hospitality. He acts like he’s doing you a favor by letting you stay in his filthy property. Now let’s talk about the room — it was an absolute nightmare. Dirty walls, spider webs hanging everywhere, dust in every corner, and a horrible smell. The bathroom looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years — broken tiles, no proper lock (yes, anyone can open it from outside!), and grime all over. It was honestly the most unhygienic place I’ve ever stayed in. The WiFi didn’t work at all. When we politely asked for the password multiple times, this arrogant man snapped back rudely and behaved as if we were bothering him. Imagine being on vacation and having to deal with an old man’s ego every time you ask for basic facilities. And the breakfast — what a joke! We booked this place because reviews said they offered a good breakfast. What we actually got was a piece of watermelon, a slice of papaya, a tiny banana, and one sad omelet. That’s it! It felt like a cheap trick to save money and still claim “breakfast included.” Pure cheating. The only person who had any decency was the poor helper working there. You could clearly see he’s scared and helpless under this rude owner. I’ve traveled a lot, but this is hands down the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The condition of the property, the arrogant owner, the dirty rooms, and the shamelessly poor breakfast — everything was terrible. 💥 This place will ruin your trip. 💥 This man will ruin your mood. 💥 And your money will be wasted. Do yourself a huge favor — don’t trust the old Google reviews. The good comments are misleading and have nothing to do with the current horrible reality of this place. Sharon Inn is a dirty, unhygienic, arrogant-run disaster of a hotel. ❌ Never again. Not worth even a single rupee.

I stayed at Queen’s hotel for a night. As a solo traveler, I booked a superior double room with an en-suite and a balcony from which you can see the Buddha’s statue! The room was clean and came with all the essentials. Love the British style architecture and decor of the hotel. The breakfast was wonderful too! The location is great, right across from the lake and a temple as well as close to the railway station. Also, Michelle was super helpful in answering any questions and recommending local Sri Lankan food to try for me! She also ensured that I reach at the railway station on time by speaking to the driver directly. Thank you! Highly recommend this place to everyone but especially to solo travellers in terms of value, safety and ease of sightseeing!

I had lunch recently at this place. The staff is nice and very welcoming. The food and beverages are excellent. There is English colonial architecture throughout the premises. The upper-level verandah and dining area feature an elegant heritage design, which is hard to find in many places. Next time, I'm going to stay here, and I highly recommend it to anyone who would like to experience old heritage architecture.

Went in for coffee when visiting Kandy for the first time and ended up getting breakfast too. The coffee was great (had a latte and a cappuccino) and the chicken sandwich and brownie were great too. Went in the next day for coffee and another sandwich and some fish and chips and everything was excellent once again. The service was great and the location (especially when sitting outside) is quite nice. The bathrooms were immaculate and had toilet paper, hand-wash and a sanitary bin. Overall a great experience. Highly recommended!

Beautiful old English style hotel in the heart of Kandy, a short walk from the Temple of The Sacred Tooth Relic and the lake. The rooms are old fashioned and a little quirky but comfortable and the staff are terrific. Loved the breakfast on the balcony and English speaking local newspapers. We organised our onward driver through the staff here. I’d definitely stay here again.

Great location. Colonial atmosphere. Reasonable pricing. But Extremely bad attitude. They worship foreigners. We are null and void. Staff is unfriendly. They do not smile at you. They do not treat you with dignity. Such Slapdash behaviour. I don’t like this type of treatment. But you are most welcome to visit the place. May be they will treat you better.

We came to the Royal bar for a drink and I would say it’s a must do in Kandy. Really old building with an interesting picture room that’s worth looking at. Drinks were on the expensive side but that wasn’t unexpected. The standout was the food. We ordered a chicken Dosa thinking it was a snack (given that it was cheaper than a beer) and it fed two of us to the point we cancelled our dinner plans! Really tasty. If you can try and sit downstairs it’s a bit more for the locals and a better experience - for example, they have draft beer downstairs but not offered upstairs. Overall worth the experience, as most places in Sri Lanka, the staff were wonderful!

We stayed in a suite for one night. What we liked: Staff was very friendly. The breakfast was really well arranged. We were in a rush because we had to take a train at 08:13 and the breakfast starts at 07:30. They offered to take our breakfast orders a day before, so they can prepare it in advance. That was very considerate. The facility and atmosphere of this building is very unique and antique. It felt like you traveled back in time. The room did not even have a tv or coffee machine! But they did have an AC which was nice. Great location. 5 min walk to the temple. The bar was open till 11pm but we didn't hear much noise in our room. What we disliked: The doors were tricky... they do belong to the decor but not so practical. We stayed in the suite and it had small windows towards the hallway only, nothing to outside. If you want outside view, you can go to a bar/cafe. Also, be careful with ice cream here, my stomach had trouble with it. In sum, we enjoyed our stay but had a feeling that it was a bit overpriced.

I visited Café Divine Street in Kandy and tried their Cheese Koththu — it was absolutely delicious! The flavors were rich and well-balanced, and the portion was generous. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service made the experience even better. Definitely worth a visit!

The cafe has a pleasant staff that makes you feel welcome, but unfortunately, the food falls short. The dishes lack freshness, which affects the overall experience. On the plus side, the portions are generous. However, the quality of the food needs improvement to match the friendly service.

This was hands down one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had. We ordered a chicken submarine that smelled fishy and rotten. The first bite was so sour and disgusting, it nearly made us vomit on the spot. We immediately told the staff, and instead of showing any concern, the chef arrogantly said it “looked good” — but also admitted he hadn’t tasted it. What kind of chef refuses to taste food that customers say might be spoiled? No apology. No refund. No accountability. Just a smug attitude and the same ridiculous response: “It’s good.” When we asked them to taste it themselves, they flat-out refused — probably because they knew it was inedible. To make things worse, we still had to pay for that garbage. The customer service was nonexistent, and the entire experience was disgusting and unacceptable. This place shouldn’t even be serving food. Avoid it like the plague.

Got a chicken Shawarma and I'm very very disappointed. Tasted like mushroom drowned in mayonnaise. 1000lkr wasted. The 450lkr Shawarma in "Burgers vs Shawarma" is far better with half the price. Not to mention there's no water, sauce or napkins at any table at all. I had to ask water separately. I mean how, from a restaurant at this price level.

Had chicken burgers and submarines here. The buns tasted stale, and there was hardly any chicken in them. They took a considerable amount of time to deliver the food, but the dishes were tasteless and not worth the money. Cannot recommend this place.

Tried a delicious chicken cheese kottu, and the portion was big enough for more than three people, which is great deal compared to other places I’ve tried. The only con was that we had to wait over 20 mins for them to take our order. Other than that the food is really good and recommended!

Everything is perfect here! Delicious food, super nice people and chill atmosphere. We came back the next day to try the pancakes, they were the best thing that could’ve happened to me, eggs on toast super tasty as well :)

The cafe was in a really cool spot with lovely bright decor! The staff were great and the food was so yummy. And the coffee was made with their own blend and real espresso!! Highly recommend

I have tried the banana pancake with ice cream and a home made ginger beer. It was soo delicious . And enjoyed a lot. The service is fast than I thought . The staff is really friendly and always concerned about the foods they serve. The place decorations are amazing abd cozy. love to visit again

Cinnabon roll was below average while prices for food and drink were above average. Good thing is they accept cards, offer friendly service. Inside very clean and cosy. Toilet located outside. You have to climb narrow steps to access this cafe on second floor.

We stopped by here for dinner and it was such a wonderful and quirky experience. Everything about this place is unique and fun….as Madam Helga says. ‘What’s life without a little whimsy’? Definitely visit if you are in Kandy….you will probably want to stay as I did. Will definitely be back! And did I mention the food?? Best coconut soup and Raj fish cakes!

Very awesome 7/6. My family and I had the best time at this anti-hotel. It’s magical and whimsical, super special place with loads to see and experience. Service was excellent. This is certainly not a place for everyone, if you are looking for a unique experience, give it a try. It could use a proper cleaning and upgrade to some areas. That said, we loved our time here.

Not recommended, very run down, way too expensive for what you get. Downstairs really nice just to have a drink, and the staff is very friendly and helpfull. However, the rooms may have been funky 30 years ago, but are dirty dust smelly, windows can’t be opened because of the monkeys, old bedsheets and old towels etc. The rooms really need a renovation!

I had Dosa in Krishna! Dosa quality is good Masala Dosa 500 LKR! But little unhappy with sambar taste is good but seems cold prepared few hours back! Two varieties of Chutney that taste also good ! Over all 4*

The taste was decent, but prices felt a bit high. We ordered one masala tea but received two, which was not what we asked for. Service needs improvement for a better customer experience.

Tried Masala Dosai and Paper Dosai with plain tea. The dosais were delicious. If you do not like too much sugar with plain tea, better tell them. Otherwise, there is too much sugar in the plain tea. Overall the experience was very good. The environment is very calm. There is even a balcony if you wish to sit and enjoy the view outside. Friendly service too.

This restaurant may look unassuming but the food is spectacular! The dosas are so tasty and just the right levels of spice. Highly recommend the cheese masala dosa and crispy kottu. Would 100% eat here again.

We had an awesome brunch here post loitering around the city centre. Had multiple dosas, wadas and idli, and the care behind each dish was good, along with the taste to back it up. The fact that it's opposite a competitor makes it a bit less popular, but having eaten at both places, this is the clear winner. Definitely recommended.

Used to be good now bad. I am frequent visitor. This time me and my wife ordered Masala Dosai & Cheese Dosai. Masala Dosai had remains of a serviat & Cheese Dosai had a lady hair. Since I have change my 5 star review to 1 star. Not recommending this restaurant.

I appreciated the spacious room and the pleasant view from Room No. 308. However, there were several issues that impacted our stay: The mattress was quite uncomfortable, and it felt like the springs were worn out, making it hard to rest properly. The air conditioner made a loud noise whenever turned on, which was quite disturbing, especially at night. The shower head in the bathroom was broken and fell off multiple times while we were showering. Unfortunately, the hotel didn't meet our expectations.

We were in a group tour and visited the handicraft section. The silk section and incidentally, their restaurant to appears to be at the high-end, showing a lot of good variety of different handicrafts. I also experienced carving out a little bit on the wood. The the representative explain different type of woods found in sri lanka and it was a very educational lecture.We were very impressed with all the variety on both the flowers and the entire place appear to be very professionally, managed clean toilets and a lot of parking facilities too available

I recently went there for lunch buffet with my family. They charged rs 4000 per one. But, There were very limited food varieties. Dessert conner was very simple. ( fruits, jelly, ice cream, bread pudding and sago pudding) Because, I had lots of experience with buffet. Sri Lankan food was very delicious. But, overall lunch buffet, it’s not worth. And, I spent one night there. Room was very good and clean. Staff and hotel room were fantastic.

We had a lovely dinner at this restaurant tonight, attended to by the sweetest woman. The food was incredible - we split the variety dish so we got a little taste of everything. The price was shockingly low and the quality top notch. Absolutely recommend visiting the restaurant for amazing vegetarian food and to be graced by the people who work here!

Fabulous little spot with a lovely owner. Got the thail and the mushrooms and jackfruit were standouts. Lime juice (not too sweet) and mango lassi were also great. Don’t be sacred off by the quiet vibe. It’s fantastic food and you won’t be disappointed.

You might have to call and ask when they’re open, but they answer and speak English. If you don’t eat here while in Kandy, that’s on you! Best in town. Wonderful curries with rice, best bread we have had in country (been here a month). Delicious desert, and samosas. We asked for spicy and it was perfect. I suspect the mild would be just as good. Like eating at grandmas house. Don’t miss it.

Visitng the cafe after few years. The menu is updated and I am in love with the new menu. Really Happy they introduced the combo meals of which we ordered the diced chicken meal. It was really an amazing dish. However I must say that the sauce in the chicken was too much tangy and chemically maybe due to too much tomato sauce. The chicken pieces itself tasted really nice and the bellpepper peices complemented it really well. Its just that the sauce is off. Other components were really good. Salad, Bok Choy and Rice complemented well with each other. We also ordered the chocolate bubble tea. The drink tasted amazing but the tapioca pearls were really dissapointing. We found like 10 pearls that are not chewy and disentigrate which is disgusting. Anyway the place is great and there are lots of options to choose from, if we did not order the bubble tea, we would have given a better rating. Kudos to the new changes and hope that you will continue to be the place we wanna visit again and again

This place is trurly a vibe. You can choose from wide range of various meals from local to western, we ended up ordering a chicken and a beef burger with amazing fries. Also, you get free water bottle automatically when you order something. Although we came here during peak hours and the Kandy Esala, the place wasn't too crowded. After all it was super chill and definitely worth a visit.

Cafe The Vibe is a delightful spot to dine in. I've visited 3-4 times, and every visit has been enjoyable. On my last visit, I had ramen, French fries, and a chocolate brownie with ice cream—all were absolutely delicious, with prices that felt fair. During a previous visit, I also tried some fantastic dishes. It's worth noting that they don't allow outside food or beverages, but overall, it's a wonderful cafe with great food and a pleasant atmosphere. Definitely a good choice for a satisfying meal.

We came to drink - but were mesmerized with the taste of the food and kept ordering food - and finished them all to the slice of onion! It’s not the wannabe Western type food you have in other Sri Lankan restaurants - it’s the authentic Sri Lankan food that’s full of flavor! I highly recommend this place for great food and good vibe. I had a terrible experience at Cocoba Bar. I was assaulted by a man inside the venue, and none of the staff did anything to help. When I asked them to check the security cameras, they refused, clearly aware that the incident was real. The way they treated us afterward was shocking and completely unprofessional. This place is unsafe and I absolutely do not recommend it to anyone.

I loved this place! It is two restaurant right above each other so you can sit on the green rooftop or inside which are two different vibes but both very well designed. I am vegetarian so I chose Tranquil Rose Menu over Sunset menu. I had the Mediterranean wrap which was made with homemade vegan mayo made from chickpeas. It was delicious and everything tasted very fresh. The staff and service was also great. This is the first restaurant I have been so far where the staff hasn't been pestering me about leaving a good review and asking me many questions as a traveler which can get overwhelming and old real quick. Here I got some nice peace and quiet and could enjoy my food!

We were recommended this place by our colleagues and we decided to drop in. It was a bit difficult to find the place initially and we didn't expect it to be on the third-fourth floor without a lift. I have a leg injury so climbing up is difficult but nevertheless my aunt and I made it to the top floor. It is a small terrace are with about 5 tables. We were lucky to have got a table quickly. Or maybe this place isn't that we'll known. Veg and vegan are different but here in Sri Lanka they are interchangeable and even include eggs at times. So be careful when you're ordering from anywhere. We ordered both tht veg bowls and a pineapple juice from here. We waited for the order as we were worried for it being totally veg and we were surprised. The food was lovely! We left no crumbs on the bowls. The bowls were fresh, full of vegetables and rice. Quite filling and tasty. Even the vinaigrette was tasty. I would recommend this place to all even the non vegetarians. It's lovely and peaceful...just the climb being difficult for me. You can even view the huge Bahiravakand statue from the rooftop.

I had the Vegan Burrito and it was just filled with a lot of rice and less of the other ingredients. The wedges were not well done. The location is nice, but food tasted made without love. I am here in Sri Lanka for the third week and that was definitely the most unspectacular food I had. Not bad, but too high price for a very middle ranked food.

Tranquil Rose is by far the best restaurant in Kandy! Everything is vegan or vegetarian, and every dish we tried was absolutely delicious. There is so many meals that we would like to eat in this restaurant! From burritos and salads to pasta and rice bowls. Also there is nice gathering on the roof of this restaurant and kind staff. We really recommend for lunch or dinner.

We ordered a large Margherita pizza with 2 mango smoothies, mistakenly they had given an extra medium pizza. They didn't charge for it. They have a friendly staff, good customer service and good varieties of foods. They are delicious and worth the price. And having nice unique interior decorations people can capture nice pictures too

Lovely place with lots of vegan options. We chose to dine on the rooftop, there is a restaurant on the floor below that is nit clearly marked, both serve same food. Make sure to ask for vegan menu. We trued burrito, bowls, falafel, vegan pizza (they make their own cheese and parmesan), scrambled tofu, all was delicious. Great service and reasonably priced

Well this is certainly not your walking hotel as the road is very winding and only a very good driver can get to it. Which our Sri Lankan driver Kuruppu of ESNA Holidays is. The views are magnificent, the food above most hotels and the variety extensive. Simply delicious for dinner and breakfast. Thank you Anthea GSA of ESNA for Australia for organising our stay here. Did I say we changed rooms thrice. The first room a double was nice but the view was a little obstructed. So we had a complimentary change to a Junior Suite. The latter changed us to a 3rd Floor family room. Wow! We had two bathrooms and the master was on an elevated floor via a spiral staircase. Both the junior Suite and family room had amazing views. Keep a look out for the eagle that often flies past and the green parrots. What was even more amazing was when we checked in we immediately sent for our laundry to be done. The next day at 10am our laundry came and the housekeeper gave us back some money she found in our pants. Thank You Amaya Hills for a wonderful stay.

The location is amazing. Away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy city, in a wonderful location where the mountains wake you up. There is a nice walking trail behind the hotel. The architecture of the hotel also accounts for the amazing compositional wood carvings, traditional designs and wide open spaces with natural light. The peaceful surroundings added to the charm. A perfect one-stop-shop in Sri Lanka. Don’t miss this for any reason. From souvenirs, gifts, clothing and a beautiful cafe - Sthree is everything. Sthree is a part of the Women’s Development Centre in Kandy and exhibits amazing items made by women with and without disabilities. Reasonably priced and very artistically made items are available here. Sri Lanka’s art in one store. Ashwini welcomes you with a smile and takes you around the store. The cafe is also open for private cooking sessions. You can contact them and host your group.

Dropped by for lunch and was pleasantly surprised to find this hidden cafe in this building. Was able to enjoy an authentic Sri Lankan Rice and Curry meal. The food was so delicious I naturally forgot to take a photo of it. (Would have also been famished) The Sthree Cafe as the sales assistants explain is frequented by young adults and foreigners.

Nice coffee place in the middle of Kandy! Great variety of cakes, wraps and sandwiches. I especially recommend the coffee cake. Different options of good quality tea. Coffee is one of the best we had in Sri Lanka! Couches and terrace are cozy, however a bit of uniqueness could be added (more colours, more welcoming entrance...) Exceptional service by Asfan, Lakshan and Madu!

Had a wonderful experience at Java Kandy today! I ordered a Café Latte and a Chocolate Lava Cake, and both were absolutely perfect. The latte was rich, smooth, and beautifully balanced — not too strong, not too sweet. The chocolate lava cake was warm, gooey, and heavenly — melts in your mouth with just the right amount of sweetness.

This has become my favorite escape zone out of my distress, and I should say this, except for the cappuccino I ordered when I visited here for the first time, ICED CARAMEL MACCHIATO _ without a second thought, yes that’s my choice!!! As a caffeineholic I fell in love with this with every sip!!! I recently dined at the Oak Ray Restaurant in Kandy and must say it is an excellent place to dine if you are visiting Kandy Temple and City. The restaurant is conveniently located very close to the temple, which makes it the perfect place to refresh after the temple visit. The prices at the Oak Ray restaurant are very reasonable and this made the experience even more enjoyable. You can enjoy great food at affordable prices. The staff was very courteous and welcoming. They were well-versed with the menu and helped us choose our meals. The only small drawback is that the location of the restaurant is not visible much. But, for people who are aware of the locality, it is not an issue. Overall, I had a very positive experience at the Oak Ray Restaurant in Kandy. I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a tasty meal at a reasonable price while on a visit to Kandy. The kindness of the staff and the great food make it a worthwhile dining experience.

very expensive, bad coffee. we ordered iced coffee and got a small cup of cold, regular coffee with an ice cube for 2,600. I do not recommend

I visited there for a dinner party. Not worth for the price. Even food is terrible. Not recommended

It doesn't matter how good the food is if the service is appalling! We arrived with our guide and driver to treat him to lunch. They completely ignored our driver as a guest. My wife and I received menus, but he didn't. We had to ask for one. They "forgot" to bring us water as we watched them serve the European guests. After asking, they brought the water and only poured glasses for my wife and me, neglecting our guest. When we finished eating, our guest wanted to take the rest of his food home as a takeaway. The young, tall and slim waiter gave me a disgusted look when I asked, then he asked someone else to assist me. I don't care if it's just a slice of bread, I'm paying for it, and I should be able to take it away. They spoke to our guest in the Sri Lankan language, and he told them it was okay out of embarrassment. This was saddening, and I truly hate how I felt after this experience. I DON'T RECOMMEND this place to anyone. I don't know if it was racism or colorism, but discrimination has no place in a "professional" environment. I was thoroughly enjoying our day in Kandy, but this disgusting behavior honestly ruined the day.

Great place to have coffee or tea after visiting the tooth remnant temple. After reading several reviews, it sounds like the food isnt so great. However, the atmosphere is so good you can chill and have a decent coffee.
