The Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya, is a historic and expansive botanical garden in Sri Lanka. Established in 1843 during British colonial rule, the gardens boast over 4000 species of plants including a diverse collection of orchids, medicinal plants, spices, and palm trees. With its lush greenery and towering trees, the gardens attract nearly 2 million visitors annually.
The Royal Botanical Garden in Kandy is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever visited. The moment you walk in you feel surrounded by nature in its purest form. The variety of trees, flowers and plants is incredible and you can spend hours just wandering through the paths without getting bored. The orchid house is stunning and the collection of palm trees creates such a unique atmosphere. I really enjoyed the wide open lawns where you can sit down and take in the scenery while watching families, couples and travelers enjoying the same calmness. The garden is very well maintained and it feels like every corner has something different to discover whether it is giant bamboos, bright tropical flowers or ancient trees with roots spreading like art across the ground. It is also a great place to escape the busy city for a few hours. The air feels fresher here and the whole environment is relaxing and refreshing. If you love photography or simply want to connect with nature this is a perfect spot. I would highly recommend visiting the Royal Botanical Garden if you are in Kandy. It is not just a tourist attraction but truly a natural treasure that leaves you feeling inspired and peaceful.

This garden or gardens as the name suggests spans over 146 acres. It's massive and for my injured foot this was a huge task to complete. But I'm proud that I finished half of the garden on my first visit. The entire area is full of trees and birds and monkeys. Ever feel like you need some fresh air, well you'll get a lot of it here. Beautiful scenes, peaceful and clean. The green just gives a sense of immense calmness alimg with the variety of flowers. One must visit this if nearby or if planning to come to Peradeniya.

One needs to walk here and have 5-6 hours to really soak in the green. You can visit this as a point tourist and take the battery Vehicle to see highlighted points. If you are into nature, or need artistic inspiration, don't keep a time target. Just come here and BE.

The Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya are absolutely stunning and exceeded all expectations. The grounds are vast, beautifully landscaped, and immaculately maintained. You can spend hours walking through the different sections – from the impressive orchid collection, to the towering palm avenues, giant bamboo groves, and massive century-old trees. The atmosphere is peaceful and refreshing, making it the perfect escape from the busy city. It’s also a paradise for photography and nature lovers. Every corner feels unique and full of beauty. This was honestly one of the best experiences in Sri Lanka – highly recommended for anyone visiting Kandy.

Just stunning. We saw so many different verities of flowers and trees. There is a nice restaurant. It's not the one which labeled as the rest room. Highly recommend to visit.

Fantastic gardens in Kandy that you should not miss. They are beautifully maintained and feature a wide variety of trees, flowers, and exotic plants from around the world. Walking under the tall palm avenues and visiting the orchid house was a highlight. You will also see a lot of monkeys! It’s perfect for a relaxing day out with family or for anyone who enjoys nature.

Amazing gardens with great variety of plants and very well looked after! You could spend the day and maybe even take a picnic with you. There is a restaurant and 2 or 3 cafes inside the park as well as toilet facilities. It is truly beautiful and worth a visit.

Nestled just four kilometers south of Kandy, the Ceylon Tea Museum is a delightful stop for those exploring the region. Housed in a former tea factory from 1925, this museum offers an intriguing glimpse into Sri Lanka's rich tea heritage. Visitors can discover the legacies of pioneers like James Taylor and Thomas Lipton while viewing historical artifacts related to tea production, such as vintage drying ovens and sorting machines.
As a true tea addict, visiting the Ceylon Tea Museum was an unforgettable experience. The museum beautifully covers everything you need to know about tea — from its rich history in Sri Lanka to the fascinating process of cultivation and production. What impressed me the most was the chance to taste a wide variety of teas, all for less than USD 4. It’s absolutely tremendous value for such a unique and authentic experience. Highly recommended for anyone who loves tea or simply wants to understand why Ceylon tea is celebrated worldwide!
Aya S — Google review
The Ceylon Tea Museum, located near the center of Kandy, is an insightful and well-preserved attraction dedicated to the history and heritage of Sri Lanka’s world-famous tea industry. Housed in the beautifully restored Hantane Tea Factory, the museum provides a comprehensive look at the evolution of tea cultivation in Sri Lanka, from its introduction by James Taylor in the 19th century to modern-day practices. Visitors can explore antique tea-processing machinery, old photographs, documents, and tools that reveal how tea transformed the island’s economy and culture. The museum also features exhibits on famous tea estates, different types of Ceylon tea, and traditional tea-making techniques. One of the highlights is the rooftop tea shop, where visitors can enjoy a fresh cup of authentic Ceylon tea while taking in panoramic views of Kandy and the surrounding hills. The museum is well-organized, informative, and engaging for both adults and children. Knowledgeable staff are available to answer questions and provide additional context about the exhibits. While it is not a large museum, every corner offers something to learn or admire, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts, tea lovers, and anyone curious about Sri Lanka’s tea culture. The museum also offers guided tours for a more immersive experience, adding value to your visit.

Visiting the Ceylon Tea Museum was such a wonderful experience! The staff here are incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and passionate about tea. They took the time to explain the history of Ceylon tea and showed us around with genuine warmth. The museum is well-maintained, with fascinating old machinery, exhibits, and a lovely ambience that brings the story of tea to life. The tea tasting at the end was the perfect finishing touch. Special thanks to the team for making the visit so memorable – your hospitality truly stands out. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kandy!
Yasir S — Google review
Visited the Tea Museum on a quiet morning. Was given a great explanation of the history of the museum and then left to explore on my own. It was low season and there were only two other people there. The museum tells the story of the tea manufacturing industry in a building which housed the factory 100 years ago; it was humble presentation of history and a nice stop away from the bustling centre of Kandy. Ticket price is 1000 Rupees which also gives you a free cup of tea on the top floor, and 10% off any purchases in the shop. Well worth a visit to explore the history of Ceylon Tea.
Hannah E — Google review
Not a great experience for us. It's an old tea factory now restored as a museum. They have all the machines that is being used to make a tea donated by different tea states of Sri Lanka. Location is nearby from the centre, situated on the top of the hill from where you can have an amazing view of tea garden. Entrance fee is 1000 Rs which include group guided tour and a complementary tea at the restaurant. The lady ( in 40s) which was assigned to us for the guidance had absolutely no knowledge about tea or how the process works and why do you go through the process. It seemed she was reading the script to us. We asked her few questions about didn't get any answer. At the restaurant you can order a THALI TEA for RS1000 which comes with 7 different types of tea. Overall you can spend 2-3 hours if you have time
Anant K — Google review
Wonderful Tea Experience! Visiting this tea factory was one of the highlights of my trip! The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable — they explained every step of the tea-making process with such passion. The tour was both educational and fun, and the aroma of freshly processed tea filled the air. The tasting session was amazing — I never knew there were so many distinct flavors and aromas in Ceylon tea. The view from the terrace was breathtaking.

Lovely museum, very friendly staff. Beware there are only stairs to get up the 4 floors, my son and i were okai but i know my old parents would have found it hard. 4th floor has a shop and a tea bar were you are offered a complementary cup of tea
Marika G — Google review
The visit to the Ceylon Tea Museum was a truly wonderful experience. The guide first explained how tea is made, after which I was able to explore the different floors of the museum on my own. A dream destination for any tea enthusiast! The tour included a complimentary cup of black tea, but I highly recommend trying the tea tasting set as well.

The Kandy National Museum, located next to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, is a popular tourist attraction in Sri Lanka. Housed in a building originally constructed for the king's concubines during King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe's reign, it showcases Kandyan architecture and over 5000 museum objects depicting the history, culture, and traditions of Sri Lanka from the Kandyan era. The museum displays weapons, artifacts, and more from this period.
The Kandy National Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in the rich cultural and historical heritage of Sri Lanka. Located near the iconic Temple of the Tooth Relic, the museum provides a deep dive into the Kandyan era and the broader history of the island. The museum is housed in a beautifully preserved building that was once part of the royal palace complex, adding to the authenticity of the experience. Inside, you’ll find an impressive collection of artifacts, including ancient weapons, ceremonial items, traditional Kandyan costumes, and intricately carved objects that reflect the craftsmanship of the time. What I particularly enjoyed was the attention to detail in the displays. Everything is well-organized, with detailed descriptions that explain the significance of each exhibit. The museum offers a thorough look at the culture, history, and artistry of the Kandyan kingdom, as well as Sri Lanka’s colonial period. For anyone exploring Kandy, I highly recommend a visit to the Kandy National Museum. It’s a fantastic way to understand the historical context of the area and appreciate the depth of Sri Lanka’s past. A perfect complement to visiting the Temple of the Tooth Relic!

This museum is conveniently located in the palace area nestled behind the temple of tooth. It was overall informative of the history of Kandy and had some great pieces with simple but informative information in a number of languages (including English). My personal highlight was some great old maps of Sri Lanka. It was very quiet when we went. It is not very large. It definitely provided lots of information however it was not exhaustive. Tickets are 600 rupees for foreign adults
Nicholas T — Google review
The Kandy National Museum is definitely worth visiting if you’re keen on the history and traditions of the Kandyan era. It houses a fascinating range of exhibits, from ancient weapons and ceremonial objects to traditional Kandyan attire and finely crafted items that showcase the artistry of the period. The displays are thoughtfully arranged, with clear explanations that bring context to each artifact. Overall, the museum provides a rich insight into the heritage, culture, and craftsmanship of the Kandyan kingdom, along with glimpses of Sri Lanka’s colonial past.

Hidden Gem in Kandy. Overlooked because most people go to the tooth temple but this is really a must see in Kandy. A lot of people don’t understand the history behind this building This building established during Sri Wickrama Rajasingha era was then known as “Palle Vahala” This was used as the palace where the Queens of the king lived. This building has been built according to the architectural features of Kandy period. This pallevahala building was used to deposit the various items of historical value made by Kandy Art Association established in 1832 and technicians of Matale district. This was opened for the public as a museum 1942. This museum has over 5000 museum objects which are depicting various aspects historical and cultural events of the Kandyan period. (17-19 century A.D.) The staff are amazing. We visited during Tourism Day and it was one of the best experiences I’ve had in Sri Lanka. The staff are amazing. Highly recommended

This museum contains a history of the Kandyan kingdom and the artifacts related to relevant period of Sri Lankan history. There is a bookshop containing books related to archelogy. The ticket price is reasonable and is hundred sri lankan rupees and allows many to learn about the relevant period of sri lankan history.

Visited this museum with kids. We visited by walking to the back of the Kandy temple of Tooth palace along the lake edge. It's a small museum with some 17th to 19th century Kandy kingdom era items. This museum building itself is historic and part of the Kandy palace. The size of walls, doors frames is massive. Next to this museum, is another museum building called "Middle Palace", which was the king and queens bedchambers. It is opened only till 4pm. The museum consists of few large rooms. Took us less than a hour to read descriptions and see the whole.
Aksam Z — Google review
The National Museum of Kandy has over 5000 artifacts. There are 8 galleries and visitors can enjoy a rich culture and traditions of ancient kandyan era.
Dinithi C — Google review
The Kandy National Museum was not on my list but when I asked around for the War Cemetery, I was told that it prohibited visitors now and I could, instead, visit the museum. So, there I was! I bought a ticket to visit and stepped inside. The Kandy National Museum is a treasure trove. It presents a glimpse into the past grandness. The construction itself is a piece of the past. I could see how the Kandy National Museum prominently displayed stories unique to this area. The Kandy National Museum is a knowledge store. It is a conduit through which the prior triumphs and the colonialist rule eras are communicated to groups. The Kandy National Museum though will benefit from getting some cooling/ ventilation installed. All through my visit, I was sweating buckets!

Cemetery
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled just 3 kilometers from the Kandy Railway Station, the British Garrison Cemetery is a poignant piece of history that offers a serene escape in the bustling city of Kandy. Established in 1817 after British forces took control of the area, this cemetery serves as a final resting place for 195 British nationals who passed away during their time in colonial Sri Lanka. The tranquil grounds are adorned with headstones that tell stories of lives lived and lost, some even detailing their causes of death.
Located just a short walk away from The Temple of the Sacred Tooth, entering the British Garrison Cemetery is like entering another world. I don’t mean leaving the world of the living, but a world of calm and quiet. More likely than not, you will be the only visitor and you can walk around the grounds reading the tombstones and discovering what life might have been like for the 195 people buried there. During your time at the cemetery you will in all likelihood meet the young caretaker of the cemetery Harsha. He is very knowledgeable about everything that is there in the cemetery and can guide you through the tombstones sharing information about each. The British Garrison Cemetery in Kandy is maintained by The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC).
Neel M — Google review
British Garrison Cemetery British Garrison Cemetery (also known as the Kandy Garrison Cemetery) is a British cemetery in Kandy, Sri Lanka, for British nationals who died in Ceylon. It was established in 1817 just after British captured the Kandy and closed in 1873 due to a ban on burials within the municipal limits, although special provision was given to allow the burial of relatives of those interred in the cemetery, with last person buried there being Annie Fritz in 1951. The cemetery contains 195 graves of men, women and children. The most common causes of death were tropical diseases such as malaria and cholera. The cemetery was restored in 1998 using financial contributions from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and is currently maintained by a group called 'The Friends of the British Garrison Cemetery in Kandy'. The cemetery is located within the land of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, the cemetery is maintained by the British while the Diyawadana Nilame and the Chief Prelates maintain the land.

We visited there recently on our trip to Kandy. It was well maintained and easy to access. I suggest you to go there before 12 noon on weekdays. If the gates closed ask the nearest building so they will come and show you around. There’s the tombs of then governor’s wife , John Doyle, the founder of Cargills group , the elephant hunter who died from a thunder light and others. There’s tomb from aged three months to elders. There’s approximately 150 tombs and more than 400 people burried there.Such a calm and quiet place.

The garrison cemetery is a small cemetery that holds the graves of many, mainly colonial british, men, women and children. The cemetery is maintained by the UK ministry of defence/the commonwealth war comission through the caretaker, Mr. Charles Carmichael and his assistant, Mr. Harsha Kumara Herath. Both are very happy to provide tours of the cemetery, for free (just enter the chapel/museum near the entrance). If you want, you can donate at the end of the tour, which we did, but we certainly didn't feel pressured. Harsha knows quite a bit about the place and background history and is very enthusiastic about the cemetery. At the same time he seemed saddened that other guides take tourists here that don't know much about the place and even charge money for it.
Simon Z — Google review
We stopped here to have a quick look at the British Garrison Cemetery on our walk around Kandy Lake. The cemetery was very peaceful and beautifully maintained. We were the only people there and the current caretaker Harsha came and greeted us. He then proceeded to give us a guided tour of the cemetery going into the history and stories behind the people buried there. He was very knowledgeable and it was a pleasure to listen to him speak. He then showed us the small little museum which contains newspaper articles and photos. Would highly recommend calling in here and hopefully being able to meet Harsha.

Nestled within the historic Kandy Kachcheri complex, the International Buddhist Museum stands as a testament to the rich tapestry of Buddhist history across the globe. Opened in 2010 to celebrate the 2600th Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanti, this museum is recognized as the world's first dedicated space for Buddhism. It features an impressive array of exhibits spread over 17 sections, each representing countries with deep connections to Buddhism such as India, Japan, Thailand, and many more.
Sri Dalada Maligawa kandy has established the International Buddhist Museum (IBM) to showcase the expand of the Buddhism throughout the Asia and rest of the world. This is the only museum which demonstrates the expanding of Buddhism all around the world. By the 2600th year of the sambuddatva jayanthi, the Buddha dhamma has developed its status from the simple philosophy of the lifestyle of mankind enunciated in early Buddhist thought to highly developed ritualistic religious system. From its birth place, India, Buddhism as a religion, has spread to different parts of Asia, South – East and far East. While the message of the Buddha is currently being perused in the wide context in the modern world. It is interesting to note the different systems followed in the practice of Buddhism, both Theravada and Mahayana, by the respective countries.

The museum offers a great overview of the history, variety, and practice of Buddhism around the world. It's definitely worth a visit, especially when you're in Kandy to see the Temple of the Tooth.

The International Buddhist Museum is a must-see for anyone interested in Buddhism or Asian history. It's housed in a beautiful Victorian-era building that was once the palace of a Kandyan king, and the exhibits cover the history and spread of Buddhism from its origins in India to its present-day practice in countries around the world. The museum is well-organized and easy to navigate, and the exhibits are well-curated and informative. There are artifacts from all over Asia, including statues, paintings, manuscripts, and textiles. There's also a section on the history of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, which is particularly interesting given the country's long and rich Buddhist tradition. I was particularly impressed by the museum's collection of Buddhist art. There are some truly stunning pieces on display, including a large statue of the Buddha from Afghanistan and a collection of beautiful Tibetan thangkas. The museum is open daily from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, and admission is SR 2000. It's located in the heart of Kandy, just a short walk from the Temple of the Tooth Relic. Here are some additional things to keep in mind: The museum can get crowded, especially on weekends and holidays. If you want to avoid the crowds, try to visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon. There is no photography allowed inside the museum. There is a gift shop on the ground floor where you can buy souvenirs (reasonable price). Overall, I highly recommend the International Buddhist Museum to anyone visiting Kandy. It's a great place to learn about Buddhism and its rich history and culture.

Perched atop Rajapihilla Mawatha, Kandy View Point, formerly known as Arthurs Seat, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city. The newly constructed viewing deck provides an unparalleled vantage point to admire the beauty of Kandy. From this elevated position, visitors can marvel at the splendor of Dalada Maligawa and Kandy Lake, especially when illuminated after dark.
A great spot above Kandy offering beautiful panoramic views of the city — especially stunning at sunset or after dark. There are a few souvenir sellers around, but they’re not too pushy if you politely decline. During our visit, it wasn’t too crowded, which made the experience even more enjoyable. A peaceful and scenic place that's well worth a short stop while exploring Kandy.

"Beautiful Viewpoint in Kandy" I recently visited this viewpoint in Kandy, and the scenery was amazing. You can see the whole city with the mountains and greenery all around. It’s a peaceful place to relax, take photos, and enjoy the fresh air. Sometimes it can be a little bit busy here, but it doesn’t disturb the experience. Sunset time is especially nice when the city slowly lights up. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Kandy. 🍃✨️

A few months ago, when I took a short trip to Kandy 📍with friends, we eagerly went to see this viewpoint for the first time, especially at night during rainy weather🌌⛈️🤩. Also, since the road leading to this viewpoint is a small❗️, narrow one, there was a bit of traffic congestion. It was also observed that more people visit this viewpoint at night. That's why I was so happy to have the opportunity to see the entire beauty of Kandy at night😊, illuminated by colorful lights, and the beauty of the clouds.🌩️

It was perahera festival, I didn't want to get into so much crowded. Watching it from the view point. Nice city view behind the lake. Good sunset viewpoint as well. Night reflection also beautiful.

A nice spot for locals and tourists. See big view of Kandy Lake, Temple of the Tooth, and Kandy town. Green mountains all around. Very beautiful! In the evening, lights make it colorful and bright. Great for photos.

If you’re visiting Kandy, the Kandy View Point is an absolute must-see. It’s only a short tuk-tuk ride or a brisk walk from the city centre, yet the change in perspective is amazing. From the top you get a sweeping panorama of the entire lake, the Temple of the Tooth, the lush hillsides, and the red-roofed colonial buildings that give Kandy its timeless charm. On a clear day you can see the mountains fading into layers of mist, which is breathtaking at sunrise and even more romantic at sunset when the city lights start to glow. The viewpoint itself is easy to access—there’s a small parking area and plenty of space to stand or take photos without feeling rushed. It can get busy in the late afternoon, but the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, with locals selling fresh fruit and a few handicrafts. They’re polite and not pushy, which adds to the pleasant experience. What I loved most is how it captures Kandy’s unique character: you can hear the temple drums in the distance, watch the lake shimmer below, and feel a cool breeze even on a warm day. It’s the perfect spot for photographers, couples, families, or anyone who wants to take a quiet break and just soak in the beauty of the hill country. Tips: Best time is early morning or just before sunset for softer light and fewer crowds. Bring a light jacket if you stay for sunset; the breeze can be cool. Don’t forget your camera or a fully charged phone—this is one of Kandy’s most Instagram-worthy locations. Whether you have a few hours or just a quick stop on your itinerary, the Kandy View Point delivers a magical perspective of the city. Highly recommended!

Nestled in the heart of Kandy, Sri Dalada Maligawa, also known as the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, stands as a beacon of spiritual significance and cultural heritage. This magnificent temple is revered by Buddhists worldwide for housing one of Buddhism's most sacred treasures—the canine tooth of Buddha. According to legend, this relic was smuggled from India on a princess's hair after Buddha’s cremation in 483 BC.
The Dalada Maligawa is truly a sacred and peaceful place filled with history and spiritual beauty. The atmosphere is calm and respectful, and the architecture is breathtaking. A must-visit in Kandy to experience Sri Lanka’s deep culture and devotion. Absolutely five stars! 🌸🙏

Place has much more local relevance if you deep dive into history. Great connection with India and how the tooth was brought. Extremely clean and do explore the museums inside because most people skip that. It’s a bit pricey for the location but I guess it all goes into maintenance so worth it.

The Visit to this really shrine is more than a temple. It is very nice to know the history. And also to know how the tooth reached from the Kalinga kingdom to Sri Lanka through ambassadors, the whole place, is laid out very well and very systematically. You have to go through buying the tickets. Handing over your footwear, ensuring the correct dress code is followed. And then The Visit inside the cascade is not seen by us. But the room where it is kept was seen also different offerings of Lars, fruits were kept in front of the room. A lot of footfalls appear to be happening there. And it's a very sacred experience to go through this shrine. It is much more than a temple. And definitely memorable visit. In kandy

The Temple of the Tooth in Kandy is breathtaking! 🏯✨ This sacred Buddhist site is stunning, with intricate carvings and golden embellishments. The atmosphere's serene, and the devotees' devotion is palpable. You can feel the history and significance. Be sure to dress modestly and respect the rules. The temple's a treasure trove of Sri Lankan culture and heritage. Take your time exploring, and soak up the peaceful vibes. A must-visit when in Kandy! 🙏✨ The views of the surrounding area are lovely too. Worth a visit for the history, architecture, and spirituality.

A lovely temple for the Buddhists that is extremely sacred because of the tooth that was recovered from the pure of lord Buddha. That tooth has been preserved here and is worshipped as a part of the lord himself. The tooth bears huge significance for being equivalent to Lord Buddha or as the last remains of him. You must leave your shoes and enter the temple with flowers that can be offered inside. There are two floors, ground and first wherein the chanting and prayer happens. If you get time, you must sit and take in the full experience. There's a museum as well to visit. I would recommend this place to everyone visiting Kandy.

Kandy temple is one of the oldest and has huge historicsl anf spiritual significance especially for Buddhism. Its located just next to the Kandy lake and is a large complex. However, for foreigners, they charge LKR 2000 per adults which we found to be really absurd, given that its a temple. Since we have visited Ladakh, Sikkim, Bhutan and Thailand, where we have seen and heard vast history of Buddhism, we did not buy the tickts and just enjoyed the complex. One can opt for a guide if required. Since its a religious place, we must respect the sanctity and visit to pray.
Nikesh M — Google review
Also known as the Temple of the Tooth it is probably fair to say that this is the principal Buddhist shrine in Sri Lanka and a major tourist draw for the city of Kandy. There is nearly always a fairly large crowd of devotees and tourists at the temple, both day and night. The police can be quite forceful in imposing "decency standards" for female visitors ie no bare shoulders or short skirts so it is best to be aware of this before visiting. There are signs in the interior restricting photography but these don't seem to be enforced with the same enthusiasm.

Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya is a captivating Buddhist temple that offers visitors an enchanting experience as they ascend steep stairs to reach breathtaking hilltop views. This sacred site not only serves as a place of worship but also features a charming souvenir shop, perfect for picking up mementos of your visit.
Amazing place! The view from up top was incredible! They do expect a donation and that's completely fair. Give what you can. We came late in the evening so there were not many people here which was nice. There were bats flying around by Buddha and it was so cool to watch them.

Very nice Buddha statue built on top of a hill. The temple is dedicated to Lord Buddha and people come to pray here and perform their austerities. The views of the lake and Kandy are breathtaking.

A unique and memorable experience! In the temple we received a Buddhist blessing with a red mark on the forehead, a beautiful tradition. Donations are appreciated. From the top, you get a picturesque view of the surroundings, which makes the visit even more special. The entrance fee was around 500 rupees per person (as of August 2025).

Small Buddhist temple atop the hill next to the main city. You have to climb a lot of stairs to reach the top of the temple. There is a huge Buddha statue with stairs at the back which gives breathtaking views of the city and the river. There is a small souvinier shop for buying gifts. The view at sunset is very nice. Be careful while climbing during rains as the floor is very slippery

Nice place to visit and see the Lord sitting in full glory. Also encountered a foreigner who has similar issues about her guide and we got along well. There is a Hindu temple here as well and the priest does some prayer too for you if you obviously give him some money. The walk up is small but very difficult if it's in the morning. I wore black today and became a good crisp at the end of it. A quick visit here and a souvenir store to buy some blessings based things like tali or necklace is a good option. I picked up three for my family and took some pics. Evening would be a better option as it's too hot in the morning. A ticket is required that costed me 500 LKR and please remember to be clothes fully due to religious sentiments. You will have to remove your shoes before you walk up so be mindful.

Another big buddha in Sri Lanka. I liked that there are steps and you can go up till buddhas head. Also don’t miss hidden door where you can go in buddha. Overall nothing much to see. We came here by tuktuk and recommend to take a tuktuk, because there is a hill. I think it would be hard to walk there. Also you have to buy a ticket, not expensive - 300 rupees if i remember correctly.

Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya is one of those spots where the statue does all the talking. It’s huge, striking and dominates the hillside. The real bonus is that you can climb up behind it, which gives you a surprisingly good view over Kandy without elbowing your way through crowds. One practical note: if the sun’s out, the stone pavement turns into a frying pan. Shoes off is the rule, so unless you fancy cooking your feet medium-rare, keep your socks on. Simple trick that saves you a lot of swearing.

This expansive sanctuary offers an array of hiking trails that wind through lush greenery, making it perfect for exploration. Historically significant as part of the Kandyan Kingdom, its name translates to 'upper palace garden,' reflecting its royal heritage.
Udawatta Kele Wildlife Sanctuary is a hidden gem in Kandy! The lush greenery, serene walking trails, and diverse wildlife make it a perfect escape from the city's hustle. I had an amazing experience exploring the peaceful forest, spotting monkeys, birds, and even a few deer along the way. The well-maintained paths lead to breathtaking viewpoints overlooking Kandy. It’s an excellent place for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking tranquillity. Highly recommend visiting early in the morning for the best experience!

A true forest escape in the middle of Kandy! 🌳🌿 Udawatta Kele Sanctuary is a historic national forest reserve that gives you an authentic forest vibe — tall trees, thick greenery, and the sounds of nature all around. Just minutes away from the Temple of the Tooth, yet it feels like you’ve stepped deep into the wilderness. Tickets are very affordable (Rs. 75 for locals) and Rs. 930 for foreigners. The walking trails are shaded and peaceful, with plenty of birds, monkeys, and plants to see. It’s best to visit in the morning or evening for cooler weather. Carry water and wear comfy shoes since some paths are uphill. If you’re a couple, a family, or simply someone who loves nature, this sanctuary is the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with the forest atmosphere. A must-visit in Kandy! 🍃✨

Peaceful and refreshing place with lots of greenery. Ticket for locals is only LKR 75. Nice viewpoint over Kandy city, plus you can spot birds, deer, and monkeys. Great walking routes with benches to relax and enjoy nature.

It is a beautiful rainforest just behind the Temple of Tooth, though the entrance is a little far away. I was amazed that there is such a beautiful and thick forest in the heart of such a city. You have to buy a ticket to go in which is just LKR 75 for the residents of Sri Lanka. There are beautiful paths through the forest and they are just beautiful. Usually there are not many visitors and so you can get a very peaceful nature walk listening only to the sounds of nature. Sometimes I found some monkeys asking the way and so I carried a stick with me. Once I also spotted a few deers. If you go after a rain, you'll find leeches crawling up to you. I tried the Kodimala peak, but it was not worth the climb and there were many leeches. In short, if you are a nature lover, this is one of the best places to visit in Kandy. You can make a round in less than two hours.

930 LKR entry fee. You wouldn’t believe this place is in the busy Kandy centre. It’s so peaceful walking no around surrounded by nature. We saw turtles, pigs(!!!) and monkeys. The view of Kandy is lovely. You could spend hours here strolling around. We were there for about 1.5 hours and still didn’t walk around it all but we were taking photos and walking slow lol. 10/10 recommend this place.
Lauren — Google review
The place is quite big so we did one trail and it was lovely. We heard lots of birds and saw monkeys. The path is easy to walk on and the staff were nice. It would have helped to have more signage because we weren't sure where to go at some points. So, take a picture of the big map at the entrance for support. When you get to the caves, don't go any further along the path outside it because there are dogs on that side and we were chased by them. I'm posting a picture of that area (The caves are on the right). Management needs to make it clearer that we shouldn't be going that way with signs. There is no picnic spot inside the park, so we ate outside it. There's lots of monkeys so probably a good idea not to picnic inside the park anyway. Overall, it was really nice and relaxing. I wish we had had more time to cover more ground.

The Kandy Lake Club is a must-visit for those seeking a cultural dance show in Sri Lanka. The venue showcases traditional Sri Lankan dances, including the rare fire walking performance. Dancers wear elaborate costumes and headdresses while performing to percussion music, depicting animals through song lyrics. The hour-long show features fire dancers, kolam dancers, and other traditional performers, with about a dozen dances on display.
We really enjoyed the show!! Especially impressed by the ‘table service’ - the waiters gave us the menu as soon as we sat down and we had drinks and snacks within minutes, and we could pay by card. It made it super comfortable not having to get up and queue especially in the intermission. The dance was something different and so cool to see the traditions of Sri Lanka. Talented bunch of people and we’d go again! 🥰💃🏼 Tip: book online beforehand to reserve your seat as it gets busy! The seats will say reserved on them when you arrive so they’re super efficient and organised.

We watched a truly beautiful cultural show here — the performances were absolutely incredible! From traditional dances to amazing drumming, every part of the show was full of energy and emotion. And the grand finale? Walking on fire! 😱 A mind-blowing end to an unforgettable evening. Highly recommended if you’re in Kandy and want to experience something authentic and impressive!

Visited with my family and parents ,Show is a captivating showcase of Sri Lanka’s rich traditions. The performances, from graceful dances to powerful drumming, were truly mesmerizing. Vibrant costumes and skilled artistry brought centuries of culture to life on stage. The fire dance finale was breathtaking and left the audience in awe. A must-see experience in Kandy that beautifully captures the soul of Sri Lanka. They serve beer and other drinks ..I wish they keep tea and coffee 😁☕ too

Honestly when we booked the tickets we weren't expecting that the simple theatre we are in will reveal us a stunning show with some really good professional performers! The dancers were reallyyyyyy good and it's something that you'll never watch in any other place. It's a mix of cultures and religions although the time in Srilanka which is marvelous to know. Not to mention the "Walking on emerds show" which was undescripable I'm still amazed till now how they did it! A must do experience don't miss it!
Acile M — Google review
The show is nice but make sure you are well fed before you go, because a pack of chips was 1000lkr. Seats are a bit uncomfortable as well. One of the tourist had an accident and they did not have a first aid. In one of the one the artist walks on the fire pit and there was no fire extinguisher, not close, not close, and I doubt if they even had one at the venue. God bless their artists!!
Arti V — Google review
The dancers were amazing definitely worth it. When we first got there, it’s a big open hall with rows of seats. It kind of felt a bit old but not antique old more like well used old or a bingo hall old. But I think this added to the experience we sat down and there is a small bench in front of every row of chairs. Which is actually kind of useful for your bingo cards or the beers you can order. But to be honest as soon as the performance starts you forget all about this and become amazed at the skill of the dancers, musicians and their costumes. This would be a world class show at any arts festival in the world.
Karl G — Google review
I wouldn’t recommend the Kandy Lake Club. Some of the dances were beautiful, but overall the show felt mostly catered to tourists, which made the experience seem a bit fake. My personal experience was also disappointing. I’m short, and tall people were seated right in front of me. Although many good seats were clearly available, when I asked to move, I was only offered a bad seat in the corner. Even after the show had started and 40 minutes later, no one bothered to re-seat me. Only after insisting again during the intermission did I finally get a decent seat. On top of that, the venue was full of bugs, making it hard to enjoy the performance as I was itchy throughout. Overall, not worth it.

This is NOT the botanical garden you heard about!!!!! Some reviews are not for this park but the very botanical park that is 7 km away from here. Foreign tourists have to pay 500 rupees for nothing. No flowers, toilets are broken, lots of construction going on. Don’t waste your money visiting here. You can not really overlook Kandy lake from here either! However, this is a popular spot for local couples to date here. A small park that you can finish touring in 10 mins have at least 20 couples making out. Super awkward when I visited. But it’s true that this place is quiet.

Hilltop garden, was not worth the walk up a very steep hillside to get to. It took us quite a while to find the path and the weather was hot and traffic was busy. Once inside ( you have to pay to get in, I think it was 500 lkr) it is small and is basically a spot for lovers to hang out in, every seat was taken up with a young couple cuddled up, and some needed to actually get a room! We felt like we were intruding on the couples and they took up a large area of the garden so we only stayed for about 15 minutes, and so for us it was a lot of effort for very little enjoyment.

Asgiri Maha Vihara Pirivena, located in Kandy, is a serene and awe-inspiring Buddhist complex. It offers breathtaking views, beautiful pagodas, and amazing artifacts. The newly constructed stupa is an architectural marvel that shouldn't be missed. Visitors can explore the tranquil vihara with its intricate wooden carvings and find a peaceful space for contemplation and meditation.
What a gem of a place. Meditation hall there for you to stop quieten down and reflect...on your journey thus far, your good fortune to be here, and what is important to you. The hall above is magic. Wooden carvings simple but impactful then drawn up the eye sees frescoes painted of Buddha's life. In the muddle a wooden stup with all the Buddha's of for directions and a centre gold stupa set inside. Another room at lower lever of this great stupa is a history of the sri lankan periods of Dharma and texts written in those periods as well as some artefacts. I heard monks chanting on their morning puju but could not find hall so listened. At the back is a monastic school and living quarters for the monks. Now this place reeks of authenticity as compared to the white Buddha on the opposite side of the hill. This is worth coming to see and feel. I entered on my own from the street, and there's roughly 115 steps, but if you are coming by tuktuk, there is road up. It's free..... unheard of in sri lanka for foreigners. Blessings to them.

Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) I recently visited the Asgiri Maha Viharaya in Kandy, and overall, it was an interesting and peaceful experience, though there were some aspects that could be improved. The temple offers a beautiful and authentic insight into Sri Lanka’s Buddhist traditions. It’s one of the two main monastic orders in Kandy and has significant historical importance. The architecture is traditional and serene, and the quiet atmosphere gives you a moment to reflect and observe. The surroundings are quite peaceful compared to some of the more crowded tourist spots in the area. You can sense the spiritual energy and see how the monks live and practice their faith. However, I would say the experience felt a bit limited for visitors. There wasn’t much information available in English, so unless you come with a guide or do prior research, it’s hard to understand the full historical or religious context. Also, while the place is definitely authentic, it isn’t as well-maintained or welcoming as other temples we visited in Sri Lanka. It’s not a typical tourist attraction – and that’s both a strength and a weakness. If you’re deeply interested in Buddhism or local culture, it’s worth a visit. But for more casual visitors, it might not be very engaging without background knowledge. In summary, Asgiri Maha Viharaya is a quiet and genuine place with cultural value, but it could be improved in terms of accessibility for international visitors. Still, I appreciated the chance to see a different side of Kandy and experience a more spiritual environment.

The best Stupa we have seen in Sri Lanka because it is beautifully decorated INSIDE with many drawings of the story of Buddha. Only 10-15 minutes walk or a short Tuk Tuk ride from the city center and apparently not (yet) discovered by the hordes of tourists that crowd the Temple of the Tooth Relict. Just go and see yourself, it’s really worth it and didn’t even cost entrance fees.

The Sri Dalada Museum is a recent addition to the Dalada Shrine in Kandy. It houses valuable artifacts that have been offered to the Sacred Tooth Relic over the years, including gifts from royalty and heads of state. The museum allows visitors to gain insight into the significance of the temple and its history without needing a guide, as locals are willing to provide explanations.
We happened to be there on a Sunday which was quite to popular day for locals to say their prayers. Make sure you have a sarong or pants to cover legs, if not there are vendors selling them to the right of temple where you can get flower offerings as well. Sarong was about 2k rupees and a whole tray of gorgeous lotus flowers were only 1k. Foreigners must enter to the right of temple , buy a ticket from the machine which only takes cash I think it was 2k per person and then you must check your shoes. All temples are barefoot. If you want to see the tooth it was a mental line up. Temple was nice for a walk around, we gave away some of our flowers and dud a little offering upstairs.

The Temple of the Tooth in Kandy is truly amazing! I had the privilege of attending the evening ceremony, and it was a deeply spiritual and mesmerizing experience. The atmosphere was serene, with the sound of traditional drumming adding to the sacred ambiance. The temple itself is stunning, with intricate architecture and rich cultural significance. A must-visit when in Kandy to witness this beautiful blend of history, tradition, and spirituality!

Entry to the temple and museum is together. You can buy flowers near the entrance (around 100 rupees for 5 stems) if you want to make an offering. Leave your shoes (tip 50 rupees on collection), pay, and in you go. We went at puja time so it was incredibly crowded with tourists and locals. It was organised, and the crowds kept moving. It was fascinating to see this kind of worship, Unfortunately the museum was closed by the time we'd finished, so we didn't see that.

Good to visit. Take a guide along they show you all places properly and explain the history. Clean toilets, big place, lovely ceremony you can see at 9.30 am and 2 other time in early morning and evening.

The Sri Dalada Museum, situated within the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) in Kandy, Sri Lanka, offers a profound insight into the nation's Buddhist heritage and royal history. Located on the first and second floors of the temple complex, the museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts that chronicle the journey of the sacred tooth relic and its significance in Sri Lankan culture. Visitors can explore a variety of exhibits, including ceremonial regalia, historical photographs, and religious items such as caskets and statues. Noteworthy artifacts include a silver water pot offered by King Kirti Sri Rajasimha, a silver hanging lamp from King Rajadhi Rajasimha, and a painted replica of Buddha’s footprint sent by King Borom Kot of Thailand. The museum also displays the attire of King Keerthi Sri Rajasinha, providing a tangible connection to the island's royal past. A visit to the Sri Dalada Museum enriches the experience of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, allowing guests to delve deeper into the spiritual and historical narratives that have shaped Sri Lanka. It's an essential stop for anyone interested in understanding the cultural and religious fabric of the country.

This Buddhist temple in Kandy is a true gem that should be on your list when visiting the city. If you plan your visit for the afternoon, particularly after 6:00pm, you'll have the unique opportunity to witness the mesmerizing evening ceremony, though be prepared for the vibrant and lengthy music that accompanies it. The entrance fee is 2,000 LKR. For Buddhists, this site holds immense historical significance and is a must-visit. Please note that parking options for private vehicles nearby can be limited. To avoid any issues, consider parking in government-paid areas and enjoy a short walk to the temple. Additionally, it's advisable to avoid purchasing flowers at the entrance, as they tend to be quite pricey.

Festival
Every summer, the enchanting city of Kandy comes alive with the vibrant Esala Perahera festival, a grand celebration that has its roots in the fourth century. This 11-day event is nothing short of mesmerizing, featuring a midnight parade filled with an impressive array of over 100 elephants and around 5,000 drummers and dancers. A highlight of this festival is the Tooth Relic Procession, where an elephant majestically carries a replica of Sri Lanka's revered tooth relic.
(Translated by Google) It is spectacular, with dozens and dozens of groups, jugglers and highly decorated elephants. You have to go in advance. It's not worth paying for a seat, the parade is very long and if you want to leave early you're wasting money. After visiting the Imperial Temple, enter the river area, and although it is crowded with people, look for a space and you will find it. Everything can be seen from a strong fence and the neighbors are in the front row, so be patient, and the photos are not very good. It is very long and can get boring, you can leave whenever you want. Once you pass the Buddha Tooth (which is not the authentic one) then the politicians come, and since you have been there for more than 2 hours you can leave. Don't try to park nearby, it's best to stay the night in Kandi, and go to dinner at a restaurant nearby on foot, on the way to your hotel. It's super pretty, you can't miss it.

The Kandy Esala Perahera is one of the most beautiful and cultural events I have ever experienced. The traditional dances, costumes, lights, and the grand procession create an unforgettable atmosphere. It truly shows the rich heritage of Sri Lanka. Sometimes the streets can be a little busy during the event, but it doesn’t disturb the overall experience. A must-visit if you are in Kandy during this season.

This parade abuses elephants. They are chained up and have many scars even visible with the costumes on. Some trembling as they walk, some chewing on their own trunks, they are obviously terrified and stressed. Horrible.
Anna Z — Google review
(Translated by Google) The parade is extremely impressive, with magnificent musical, dance, and artistic contributions. The entire event appears very safe and well-organized. However, numerous elephants, visibly stressed, are part of the four-hour parade, chained and guarded by keepers with hooks. Considerably fewer animals would have been desirable. (Original) Die Parade ist extrem beeindruckend mit großartigen musikalischen, tänzerischen und artistischen Beiträgen. Die gesamte Veranstaltung wirkt sehr sicher und gut organisiert. The Old Royal Palace, built around 1634, served as the residence of the monarch of the Kingdom of Kandy until the early 1800s. It played a significant role in historical events, including the fall of the Kandyan Kingdom to British colonial forces. After undergoing changes during British rule, it was preserved and restored by the Sri Lankan government in the 20th century as a museum to honor its heritage.
The Old Royal Palace, located within the precincts of Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth Relic) in Kandy, is a fascinating historical site that offers a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s royal past. The palace, which once served as the residence of the Kandyan kings, is an integral part of the temple complex and holds significant cultural and historical value. The Old Royal Palace was originally built in the 16th century during the reign of King Vimaladharmasuriya I. It was constructed to accommodate the king and his court, reflecting the grandeur and elegance of the Kandyan era. The palace complex was strategically positioned to be close to the Temple of the Tooth Relic, symbolizing the close relationship between the monarchy and the Buddhist faith.

This remaining part of the kandyan royal palace is well preserved and now houses a museum with a sound collection of kandyan wood and stone artifacts. The staff is very friendly and you can have a good peaceful time here since it doesn't get busy as other parts of the building complex. There are no restrictions on taking photos by the way.

Dating back to 1634, this is the remaining part of the palace of the royal monarch during the era of the Kandyan kingdom. (පැරණි රජ වාසල) Standing in perfectly preserved condition, presently it houses one of several archeological museums of the Sacred City of Kandy.
Sansa D — Google review
The size difference between the old Royal Palace and the Temple of the Tooth Relic might be due to historical changes, including potential destruction or alterations over time. It's possible that sections of the old palace were destroyed or modified during different periods. Additionally, noble leaders' houses may have been expanded or renovated separately, contributing to variations in size and attractiveness. Historical events and architectural decisions could account for these differences in scale and appearance.
Sameera S — Google review
Even more to see in this multi building area the Royal Palace of Kandy is a historical complex that served as the official residence for the monarchs of the Kingdom of Kandy until the advent of British colonial rule in 1815. It is striking with its traditional Kandyan architectural styles, intricate woodwork, finely crafted stone carvings, and ornate wall murals.

Royal Palace of Kandy is one of the most popular places to visit in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is a magnificent structure that will leave you awestruck like never before. Situated near the temple of the tooth, the palace is surrounded by lush greenery which gives it an aura that will make you fall in love with it the first time that you visit it. The palace is visited by many tourists every year and is a great place for a family visit and friends meet. For the people who are history enthusiasts and looking for satiating their curiosity, the palace is a great tourist attraction they must visit once. History of Royal Palace of Kandy The Royal palace of Kandy used to be the royal home of the Sinhalese Monarch. It was built firstly by the King Vickramabahu III who was the king of Gampola kingdom. The last king who lived there was Sri Vikrama Rajasinha. It had been divided into several sections that belonged for different purposes in the royal families. Some of the sections are king’s palace, royal audience hall, kings’ harem’s quarters, queen’s bathing pavilion and the queen’s palace. After being burnt in a fire, a huge part of the palace was lost. So, now you can only see the royal court and the temple of the tooth. A part of the palace has been converted into a museum which is called the National Museum of Kandy. The museum offers a glimpse into the artefacts that belonged to the royalties.

The Red Mosque of Kandy is a historic and stunning landmark located in the old town, near the Lord Kataragama Temple. Its beautiful red facade stands out among the surrounding commercial buildings, making it a popular spot for street photography. The mosque features Indian Islamic architecture and is one of the oldest mosques in Colombo. While visitors may not be dressed appropriately to enter, admiring its unique look from outside is still worthwhile.
Very clean from the outside, despite being on a busy road. The detail is so intricate and eye catching. We didn’t go inside but enjoyed admiring it from the street and is a good place to stop when exploring Kandy centre.

The hotel features an inviting outdoor pool and a cozy bar on the top floor where you can unwind while taking in views of the bustling street below.
This hotel had a very different and special vibe, felt almost royal! The interiors were classic, and the vintage-style lift added a touch of old-world charm. Located right in the main market, everything was close and walkable, yet the place was peaceful and quiet inside. Loved the blend of heritage feel and convenience. A memorable stay for sure!

I travel a lot and I am usually not picky. But this hotel was a BAD EXPERIENCE. It's expensive, it has an aura of pretentiousness....bad start: i arrive at 19.00 , the room isn't ready. There is no hot water in the shower at any time. The breakfast is VERY expensive and consist of 2 pieces of toast and half a banana!!! Very unpleasant experience. Not recommended.
Håkon B — Google review
Located in the heart of Kandy city. Walking distance to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Kandy City Centre and the lake. Easy access to banks, restaurants and supermarkets. This is a quite old hotel but has managed to maintain somewhat. Still running an old elevator which is kinda cool and scary at the same time. We had a pleasant and quick check in with the front office staff being quite prompt. Rooms are spacious and has that rustic look which is cool. They have a lovely swimming pool which is super for a city hotel. Breakfast buffet isn't a big spread but it hit the nail on the head with their excellent combinations. All in all really nice experience, value for money but the only downside is the limited parking. Staff is super very friendly.

Location is perfect. We came for the Perehera , which we could follow from the balcony of our hotel room. Some rooms seems to be a bit older than others and you hear if somebody is paying in the corridor pretty well. Service was great, very friendly people.

The hotel was very disappointing and below avg. Yes the location was great and so was the service, but the rooms were very shoddy, not maintained, and had a wierd smell. We changed the room as well but both had the same thing. The food was bad too, the breakfast had just eggs, breads and juice. Moreover, there was a construction going on in the hotel which started early every morning and we would wake up to the noise of drilling machines. They failed to mention earlier about the constryction and this is not how one would want to wake up on a vacation specially after paying good amounts for a hotel room.

The Kandyan Dance-Red Cross Society Hall offers a captivating one-hour performance showcasing traditional Sri Lankan dance, music, and entertainment. The program includes explanations of each dance and culminates with a mesmerizing fire eating/walking display. It's recommended to arrive early to secure reserved seating. This must-see show provides an amazing display of folklore dances, making it a highlight for visitors in Kandy.
I would definitely recommend coming to this cultural dance club to any tourist coming to Kandy! We initially went to a different dance show but due to the fact it is low season we were transported to this one. There is plenty of seating at ground level as well as up on some tiered seats. The show was an hour which was perfect to get a glimpse of the different types of traditional dancing styles in Sri Lanka. On our way out there were stalls inside selling jewellery and paintings and dancers asking for tips but this was not required. Entry was 2000LKR (£5) which I feel was very reasonable.
Charlotte K — Google review
Visit if you support mediocrity in the name of cultural show. The show was terribale, the drums soulsed like noise, the dance, the costume everything was tough on eye to watch. No coordination in dance, no coordination in drums. Don't fall into the trap just because you want to cover all the places. We were not scammed, this is not me venting out. Recommend - 0/5

We came to Kandy specifically for this experience, having heard such good things — and it did not disappoint! We were absolutely mesmerised by the music and dances. So pleased we went!
Sam D — Google review
I am honestly impressed by all the negativity on other people's reviews. The show was amazing! It depicted local dances and musical instruments. There were 6-7 acts, more than 10 dancers and around 10 different musical instruments displayed. At the end, they did an impressive act with fire. The percussion instruments do make a weird sound. I can see why some people may find it annoying. But at the end, that is their culture! You pay to see that. The show was 2000 LKR / $6.6 / €5.8 / £5.0. Were people expecting a Broadway/Disney show? Pfff. Also, tips are never enforced. They are just there in case you believe the performers deserved more. It was 45 minutes in which the show never ceased to amaze me. Super recommended. The place deserves more than the current 4.0 stars.

On to the left of the temple is the new building which houses the taxidermised remains of the Maligawa Tusker – Raja. This magnificent tusker was captured in the jungles of Eravur in the Batticaloa District 1925. He was purchased by Tikiri Banda Manampitiya Dissawe for Rs 3,300/- in 1937 and was donated to the temple by him. For over 50 years Raja carried the golden casket which carried the tooth relic and in 1984 he was declared as a national treasure by the government. This is only the second time a tusker has been declared a national treasure. Raja died In 1988 after a long illness and then it was decided that he to be taxidermised. This is first time a tusker has been taxidermised.

The Canbuy Gem Museum is a fascinating destination for gem enthusiasts and curious travelers alike. This museum showcases raw and rare gems, minerals, crystals, and fossils that date back to prehistoric times. Visitors can delve into the history of each exhibit and gain insight into the extraction, cutting, and finishing processes through an informative documentary. The owner's profound knowledge and passion for gems add an extra layer of depth to the experience.
The ambience at the reception was nice with Koi fish at the small artificial pond they’ve made and comfortable sofas to sit. There are managers allocated to give you a tour of the place and explain the different grade of gems. It was very lovely to see the section explaining how mine workers mine the minerals and convert them to gems stones. The interiors of this section literally makes you think if you are in a mine for real. They have such a huge collection of gems and also sell these and varieties of jewels with these brilliantly studded gems. They also provide a certificate of quality when you purchase gems from them. In case you are planning to buy any gems from them, it’s better to have a budget allocated for it.

However, Mr. Kanchana, very kindly came and opened the closed gem museum for us, giving us the opportunity to see his collection. He also gave us a very good explanation about the gems.. it was truly insightful. 🥹We were astounded by the collection of gems the museum had. The lake, once adorned with a summer house for the queen, still holds whispers of its regal past. Today, it remains a cherished spot for visitors seeking history, nature, and tranquility. ✨🏞️🇱🇰

What a study in contrasts! Busy, choatic road on one side of path, beautiful serene lake on the opposite side! I almost missed the lake experience in my hunt for the tooth relic. The surrounding hills and scenery exude peace and tranquility, which is a dramatic relief from Kandy's hustle and bustle!

An absolutely breathtaking lake that beautifully complements the charm, serenity, and cultural richness of Kandy. Surrounded by lush greenery, ancient temples, and colonial-era architecture, Kandy Lake is a peaceful retreat right in the heart of the bustling city. It offers a calm and picturesque setting, ideal for those who wish to enjoy a quiet evening stroll, take in the scenic views, or simply reflect in nature’s stillness. One of the best places to experience its full beauty is from the Kandy Lake Viewpoint, The lake itself was constructed in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, the last monarch of the Kandyan Kingdom, as part of a grand vision to enhance the city’s spiritual and royal prestige. Today, it remains not only a historical landmark but also a favorite among both locals and tourists seeking peace, beauty, and a deep connection to Kandy’s royal past. Whether you're a photographer, a nature lover, a spiritual seeker, or simply exploring Sri Lanka, this spot is a must-visit for anyone wanting to witness the timeless elegance and tranquility of Kandy.

Great place to mould your child from the very beginning. The institution offers early childhood development, performing arts, elocution, activity school and so many international exams and preparation classes. Best thing is the higher level of discipline maintained by the directress while giving full of love and care.

The dedicated and compassionate staff at Mystical Rose under the leadership of Aunty Asha are truly exceptional. They understand each child's unique needs and strengths, providing personalized attention and support that has helped my children grow academically, socially, and emotionally. My children have not only excelled in their studies but have also developed a deep love for the arts and a strong sense of self-confidence. I'm immensely grateful for the positive impact Mystical Rose has had on our family. It's a place where children are encouraged to dream big, explore boldly, and develop into well-rounded individuals ready to take on the world. Thank you so much Aunty Asha, Aunty Ann and the Team for shaping the little minds, bringing out the hidden talents and developing their personalities with a can do attitude.

As a Mystical Rose Smart Link Academy student, I owe a debt of gratitude to Ms. Anne Soysa and Ms. Gulian, my wonderful lecturers, whose extraordinary knowledge has propelled me to new heights. I instantly apply what I learn in lectures. As a registered teacher at Mystical Rose International Institution, I observe a sharp rise in my pupils' interest in language and spoken communication as a result. My excellent instruction in the classroom has heightened the interest of the parents too. In particular, thanks to the wealth of knowledge that my lecturers have provided.

Thanks to Mystical Rose International Institute and MS Chintha Dodangoda to give this great opportunity to my kids VIHEN AND SASEN. My kids are so lucky to have an amazing teacher( Chintha Dodangoda) throughout their primary school tenure!! I have always had positive experiences with her in all my interactions! The Chintha dodangoda and her institute Mystical Rose International Institute provide the best foundation for my kids, cultural appreciation, and socialisation. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Mystical Rose Institute and MS Chintha Dodangoda, as my experience, We recently moved to Australia from Sri Lanka(2022 Aug.) After 2 hours of interviews with my boys (Vihen and Sasen), the principal decided to enrol Our boys directly at the school in South Australia (East Adelaide School), Because of their attitude, confidence, presentation skills and participation. I can credit their talent and confidence to the amazing teacher MS Chintha Dodangoda. This is thus far, the best investment we have ever made. We will miss all of you.
