History Museums
Situated just across the river from the city center, Musée Jean-Lurçat et de la tapisserie contemporaine is a well-preserved hospital complex turned museum that showcases an impressive collection of textile art. Housed in a former hospital dating back to 1180, the museum is named after French artist Jean Lurcat, known for his role in reviving contemporary tapestry.
A beautiful tranquil oasis with stunning art and history. Don't overlook the cloisters and the other exhibitions in the museum. It was magnificent.
Monika S — Google review
Very nice museum and interesting tapestry but I really loved the beautiful medieval cloister accessed through the back of the church where the 'Chant du Monde' tapestry is housed. You need to keep your ticket to enter both things, so don't lose it in between. They'll make you check even a small backpack into the locker. Slightly annoyingly I was allowed through and then they changed their mind and made me walk all the way back through the museum to put my bag away), so it's probably easier to check it yourself - under the stairs as you enter the museum.
Emma K — Google review
Go! It’s only €6! Really cool contrast to the Apocalypse Tapestry nearby and there are guides available in multiple languages. Plus you can see the cloisters which are calm and beautiful. Also loved the garden outside.
Cheese M — Google review
Beautiful space, both indoors and outdoors in the gardens. We attended an event here and it was a great space for the 400 people in our party to spread out, enjoy modern art tapestries, and very good food
Randy P — Google review
- friendly staff - nice preserved museum - beautiful collections We love our visit
Julian A — Google review
Great place for abstract art lovers It costs me 6€ for the ticket, but it covers 2 museum within the place. The museum mainly focuses on the art of tapestry. I personally think the art is fascinating, not much disturbing as someone’s review about. The museum has a lovely garden outside, it’s free if you just want to have some shades during the hot weather
My T — Google review
A nice quiet place of contemplation, the tapestries are amazingly crafted and blend strong feelings of postwar angst and hope. The grounds and architecture are worth visiting in and of themselves! They have some great materials to help young ones (and older ones) to understand the messages better.
Courtney S — Google review
Beautiful tapestries in beautiful colours. Displays are attractive. It’s all in French. No English translation. Google translate helped.

The Musée des Beaux-Arts in Angers is a grand 19th-century museum modeled after the Louvre, housing a fine collection of works from various eras. The museum's main collections are preserved in several buildings dating back to the 15th century, including a medieval banker's mansion and a theological seminary. Visitors can explore paintings by French, Dutch, English, German, and Italian artists spanning from the 1300s to the 2000s.
Lovely museum, didn’t understand a lot as I sadly don’t speak much French but still cool to see a lot of the history of Angers and lots of great paintings. Very friendly staff and it wasn’t busy at all. Very affordable price at just €6.

Lovely place to visit at Angers, one of the most memorable museum ive visited.. it has interactions part where by you are actually force unintentionally to remember about that particular painting.. very well thought on the interaction parts wish that alot of museum will do that.. enjoyed strolling around and appreciating the artworks and artifacts
The C — Google review
Nice museum with a collection that is more or less a copy of other museums in this genre. One gallery dedicated to the history of Angers. I was delighted to see a pastel by Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun (1755-1842) that was restored. Unfortunately, the texts in the museum are only in French
Seimen B — Google review
Impressive selection of art and artifacts from hundreds of years ago to the modern era. Impressive selection of attractions for kids scattered throughout. Our kids 7 and 9 enjoyed the various jigsaws, mosaic game, painting-based Guess Who game and the moving, modern exhibitions. Well worth popping in for 6 euros per adult and children free. The games let us take our time to explore.

A must visit museum in ANGERS The staffs are supportive and friendly, he can speak English. The ticket is 4€. They will ask you where you’re from for statistics 😌 The architect is awesome, lots of amazing art inside for you to discover. Highly recommend if you got a chance in Angers

Petit Louvre with great permanent collection of paintings (Boucher, Ingres, etc). 14th century through 21st century. Unexpected. History of Angers with photos. It shows the development of the city of Angers from its origins to contemporary urban development projects. Very interesting.

Cultural landmark
Château d'Angers is a 13th-century castle located on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Maine River. It has been an integral part of France's history, serving as a protective fortress for the kingdom. The castle boasts 17 defensive towers made of schist and sandstone, creating an imposing exterior that contrasts with its inviting interior, including rose and hydrangea gardens.
Excellent! A superb chateau with 800+ years of history, hosting the vast and impressive tapestry of the apocalypse. There is a huge moat with ornate gardens in one part, excellent views of the river and city, superb ramparts and a multilingual audio guide that gives you the details as you walk around. There are internal herb and flower gardens and even a small vineyard within the chateau!
Ian J — Google review
We used the audio guide while visiting which was well worth it for the tapestry. Which is absolutely amazing. The rest of the fortress is worth the visit. The gardens are especially impressive
Carolyn H — Google review
Great château but more of a defended fortress. Well worth the 11 euro entry fee. Coffee shop, bookshop and toilets. Most areas wheelchair friendly. Apocalypse tapestry and exhibition well worth a visit. Parking nearby suspended for resurfacing.
Sarah M — Google review
Lots of things to see: gardens, ramparts, exhibits, the Tapestry of the Apocalypse and a surprisingly nice restaurant. We just got ice cream and ate in the shade, but plenty to do. I recommend the audio guide for the Tapestry of the Apocalypse.
Nate A — Google review
Big discovery - I didn’t know this castle. If you want to see how people leaves 600 years ago this is the place to be. The visit is around 2 hours long and I recommend you see entire place. Nice Apocalypse stamp , nice story , I was impressed by what people can do 600-700 years ago.
George D — Google review
An unexpected gem of a castle! Extensive ramparts. Amazing views. Very well-preserved and presented areas, with interesting historical information. Well worth a visit!

Cathedral
Cathédrale Saint-Maurice d'Angers is a stunning gothic-style cathedral located in the medieval quarter of Angers. The cathedral boasts two grand spires that dominate the city's skyline and a remarkable 16th-century facade adorned with intricate carvings overlooking the river. Inside, visitors can admire the tranquil space adorned with a multitude of exquisite 12th-century stained glass windows, tapestries, gold religious works, and carvings.
The place was under construction when we went a few days ago, but we were still able to go inside. The cathedral is very beautiful and solemn. Marvellous organ as well!
C.J. E — Google review
Large cathedral with beautiful large woodwork inside. The pulpit, the choir stalls, and the support of the organ are all made of beautiful carved wood made in the 19th century. The church itself was constructed between the 12th and 16th centuries. The are beautiful rose windows on the north and south side that were made in the 15th century
Seimen B — Google review
Not one of the great cathedrals of France, but still worth a visit. Some very good stained glass.
William R — Google review
It would have been nice if there were any staff about to collect a stamp for our pilgrimage. Lots of work going on on the outside and a man begging out front puts you off a bit. Lovely cathedral inside and fortunately the walls were thick enough to cut out the workmen's radio. At least it was open, unlike Nates cathedral.
Damian H — Google review

Geoffrey P — Google review
Excellent architecture to admire in this large church. The organ and the vitreau windows are particularly beautiful.
SVC — Google review
Unique and fits perfectly for Angers Everything is this city is harmonic, a great religious place that you feel the greatness of peace, love and faith when you are inside. Lots of history like all other Cathedrals in France, in a huge simplified presentation. God Bless.

Galerie David d'Angers is a must-visit destination for art and history enthusiasts. The museum's permanent collections are divided into two distinct paths: Fine Arts and the History of Angers. The Fine Arts section features a wide range of artworks, from primitive art to modern pieces, including paintings from French and Italian schools, as well as significant 19th-century paintings.
Very beautiful museum Free for young people Pleasant stuff

I spotted this plaque outside the gallery. I loved the beautiful glass roof and you can see art up close.
Wendy L — Google review
Apart from conveniently located close to the train station, many other spots like museum and castle are nearby as well. One can plan the visit of the gallery even if they have couple of free hours in between their trip! Beautiful and detailed sculptures displayed throughout the gallery. Also, few ancient artifacts are kept on display. There's also a viewing point on the mezannine floor where one can sit with pencil and paper and can draw their observance if they like. I'm not sure about one thing though- wheelchair accessibility (though the mezzanine floor has no wheelchair accessibility!). Big and spacious design of the gallery makes it quite comfortable to spend couple of hours inside (There's no restroom though! 😅). All in all, a great experience and would definitely suggest this place to anyone interested in arts and history.
Vivek P — Google review
Stunning gallery in repurposed monastery with glass roof and packed with sculpture. Short walk from the Angels Tourism office.

Nestled in the heart of Angers, the Jardin du Mail is a charming city garden that dates back to the 17th century. Originally designed by André Leroy, it underwent a transformation in 1859 to embrace a more traditional French garden style. This picturesque space features elegant wrought-iron bandstands, delightful fountains, and meticulously arranged flower beds that create an inviting atmosphere for visitors.
Jardin du Mail is a lovely place to go for a morning walk or an evening stroll. It has a large playground for kids and many benches. Overall, it’s a quiet and charming oasis in the middle of the city.

The garden features cascading streams, winding paths, and elegant statues, creating a picturesque English-style landscape perfect for leisurely strolls or peaceful picnics.
Free to enter this very pretty park. April is perfect for the Wisteria, Azaleas, Rhodedrons and handkerchief tree. Great location for the old town.

Very interesting garden in Angers. Honestly it was very refreshing and nice to see some beautiful trees and greenery. Free entry, no tickets or waiting time. I would even say it was the highlight of Angers. There are nice picnic places. In addition to a nice small fountain in the middle of the park. Finally we found some animals like goats and rabbits in a small cage. Very nice place to spend your afternoon or sunset if you like nature.
Al T — Google review
Stunning green oasis in the city with a nice water feature. Lots of trees provide shade on hot days. Benches and grassy areas an ideal place for a picnic or to just sit and connect with nature. A fair bit of birdlife too. Also some interesting signs identifying the trees in the garden.

(Translated by Google) Very pretty church, undergoing repair and renovation, both interior and exterior, scaffolding is a bit in the way for photos! But it's for a good cause... the sun passing through the stained glass windows illuminates them, the vaults are quite high, a church to visit, and once the work is completed it will become magnificent again. Terra Botanica is a unique leisure park that offers interactive experiences with plant life from around the world, along with a 4D cinema. Visitors can enjoy a beautiful walk amidst diverse and abundant vegetation, as well as attractions and shows suitable for all ages. The park provides an ideal setting for a relaxing family day out, although bringing a picnic is recommended due to limited dining options.
A great day out with or without the children. Plenty to see and a good variety of eating places with a number of toilets conveniently located around the park. Great butterfly house and tropical garden. Definitely worth the day out.
Phil D — Google review
Traveling from the UK I visited this place. Absolutely worth the visit with lots of stunning plants from all over the world. Lots to do and see. Good for children with good play areas and animals to see. I did eat there in the main restaurant with no complaints with the quality of the food. It's almost a five star visit but feel like there was just something missing to give it the full five stars with the cost of £49 for 2 adults. Probably will never go back but I'm happy I made the trip.
Graham N — Google review
A hidden gem! After a disappointing day at Puy du Fou, we spent a fantastic time at Terra Botanica with our 4 and 6 year-old children. The park is spacious, peaceful, beautifully maintained, and perfect for both kids and adults. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and even the food was surprisingly good and reasonably priced, much better (and cheaper) than what you’d find at Disney or Parc Astérix. We honestly don’t understand why this park isn’t more well-known. Our kids had an amazing time, and so did we! Only downside: souvenir prices are a bit steep. But overall, an absolute favorite!
C H — Google review
It's pretty, brilliant, engaging. Easy to spend a whole day here. We were fortunate, early summer, not packed out, So no long queues. No food allowed in park, but eating places reasonably priced and a picnic area out side. My one issue, which I'm sure I'll get complaints about is that it's all in French. I know that is probably right, but given the amount of UK registrations in the car park and English speakers we met, I would have thought that to increase tourist traffic more could be done. Still, a wonderful day.
Stephen S — Google review
Very beautiful park. Better than expected. Too bad nothing is available in English . We spent 7 hours here with two boys of 7 and 10 yo. Although we were there July 31st, we didn't have the feeling it was too crowded. Tip : start your visit with the Serre des Papillons.
Dieter B — Google review
Incredible family day. Perfect for our 4 year old and baby in stroller. Loads to see and plenty of hands on experiences for small children. This surpassed our expectations and definitely worth the ticket price.

Great place. Lots of things to see. Very nice place for the children as well. The 2 years old boy loved it. We spent 4 hours there. Was planning of beeing there for one hour.
Trond R — Google review
Terra Botanica is a truly beautiful park designed for both kids and adults, offering a perfect mix of fun and learning. You get to explore plants, botanics, and the history of the region in an engaging and effortless way, making it both educational and highly enjoyable. Pricing is very reasonable, both for admission and services like lockers, strollers, and wheelchairs. One of the best aspects is the lack of queues: most attractions are instantly accessible, and even the few with lines (like the train, boat ride, and shows) move quickly. This alone makes the experience much more relaxed and enjoyable compared to other parks. The park itself is breathtaking, filled with vibrant plants and flowers even in late April. Many attractions are cleverly designed to teach without feeling like lessons, blending entertainment and education seamlessly. We enjoyed "Le Jardin des Légendes," which was both informative and charming, though its screen projection could be better. "À l'épreuve des extrêmes" was less impressive but interestingly paired with greenhouses showcasing different climates. The balloon ride was closed due to weather, but its live status was clearly shown online, which was helpful. On the downside, if you bring your own lunch, you are forced to eat outside the gates in a designated area. This is inconvenient and breaks up the day unnecessarily. The English translations on the website and within the park are also poor and clearly not reviewed by a fluent speaker. Finally, the "Ruée vers l'ambre" amber search was frustrating; despite a long effort, we found nothing, and other visitors seemed equally disappointed. Despite these flaws, our day at Terra Botanica was amazing. Its beauty, smart design, and relaxed pace make it an absolute must-visit.
