Nestled within the lush surroundings of Karura Forest, The River Café offers a unique outdoor dining experience that perfectly complements a day of exploration and adventure. After enjoying activities in the forest like walks or runs, visitors can unwind at this charming restaurant while taking in picturesque views and indulging in a diverse selection of continental cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and beverages. The café's open-air setting allows guests to bask in the natural beauty of the forest while savoring their meals.
After a good hike through Karura forest, I had the chance to grab brunch at the River Café for the pancakes 🥞 😋. The pancakes are soft and delectable. I loved their freshly brewed coffee and would highly recommend you try this place for yourself.

The waitress was unfriendly. We arrived and they said they could not serve a single hot drink except for filter coffee: incidentally I don’t drink coffee. We asked if they could just boil water on a pot so we could have tea because it was cold - the waitress refused saying that boiling water takes too long. Suffice to say the only charm of the restaurant is its location.
Nomsa M — Google review
Delicious food and a truly beautiful atmosphere — calm, green, and perfect for a relaxing meal. Service is generally good, though the staff can sometimes seem a bit rushed. During my last visit, I was accidentally given another guest’s bill, but it was quickly sorted out with a smile. Still, a lovely spot that is worth a visit if you're anyways in Karura Forrest.
Hanna L — Google review
Atmosphere is incredible, great location for a relaxed brunch (any meal for that matter). The food is good, tasty and filling. The services is ok. I went on a Saturday morning for brunch and the place was busy, so had a long wait first between getting seated and order being taken then between placing order and getting the food. Apart from the long wait, the service was good.

The River Cafe has a great location, tucked just inside the park, it’s a lovely spot to sit and relax. However, the food didn’t quite live up to the setting. The chicken burger was disappointing; the chicken was dry and tough. On the bright side, the fries were great. The eggplant parmigiana was better and had a generous portion. Service was a bit slow, but the staff were friendly. Overall, it’s a nice place for the atmosphere, but the food could use some improvement. Also need to pay park entrance fee to be able to go
Alexander — Google review
River Cafe has been my weekend go to eatery over the course of the past 14 months and has felt like a home away from home for myself and my husband. The food is very tasty (steak and egg breakfasts, burgers and bread and butter pudding 😋), the forest surrounding is wonderful and the service is exceptional. I especially wish to commend Virginia on her excellent customer service, kindness and big smile. She and the whole team at River Cafe will be sorely missed as we leave Nairobi. Thank you again so very much!

Amazing restaurant and cafe at the heart of the forest. Great service and very large menu with very enjoyable meals and brunch in great atmosphere

The waiter was quite unfriendly and seemed uninterested in serving us. When we tried to explain our order, he refused to listen and responded with a dismissive expression. His negative attitude and unfriendly gestures made the experience uncomfortable and unwelcoming.

ArtCaffé Restaurant is a high-end coffee house in Kenya, offering excellent coffee served within beautifully decorated establishments located in iconic city spots. The ArtCaffé Grand at Westgate Mall boasts an elegantly decorated space with a sunlit balcony and stylish outside bar area. Meanwhile, the Artcaffe at the Oval offers an inviting cafe setup for a date with breathtaking scenery and an intimate setting.
One of the most beautiful locations in the Artcaffe chain. It’s situated right in the heart of the city, inside the century-old Westminster House. The place is charming, with a pleasant historic atmosphere. Though the dining area is a bit dark and cool, it suits the building’s style. At the center, there’s a great bar—perfect for a drink or two after work. The venue has two indoor balconies, but one is only open on certain days. It’s a shame I couldn’t sit there, but there are plenty of tables in the main area. I love this restaurant chain, and this CBD branch is one of the most striking.

Atmosphere wise, very spacious and got the Manhattan vibe going. Service was decent, server just didn't seem happy for some reason. Food was very good, undercooked on the sweet potato and I also asked for oat milk for my coffee, I got a cup. Why? I don't need a whole cup and they charged a significant amount for it. Overall very pricey for what you get but a good one off visit.

Artcaffé is a lovely spot for lunch. The menu has plenty of options, from light salads to hearty meals, and everything is fresh and well-prepared. The atmosphere is relaxed, service is quick.

What a wholesome experience. Went in for mothers' day. They had good deals for this special day. A meal + drink + a slice of cake at kes 1990. The architectural design was it. The fries were not aesthetically pleasing but they were tasty. The cajun chicken was my favorite.10/10 minus nothing😍 The place was giving old money. I loved every bit of it. Ambiance ✅ Food✅ Price ✅ My heart is full🩷

Absolutely loved my visit to Artcaffe Westminster! The ambience is stunning — an ancient Victorian charm from its 1928 build, blended beautifully with a modern café feel. The service was warm and attentive, and the coffee + food were perfection. A must-visit spot for great vibes, amazing bites, and a timeless atmosphere. 🤍

Artcaffé Restaurant, Kenyatta Avenue, is a wonderful café. It's convenient & well located. It's very accessible to locals & visitors as well. It's located on the first floor (Bristish Reference), second floor (American Reference). The staff members are extremely helpful & very kind as well. They have a resident DJ who plays every single Friday evening. He also doubles up as a Producer & Sound Engineer as well. This iconic Kenyan DJ is none other than, Black Jack. Definitely a place to visit with a friend or two. They have enough clean restrooms as well.

Thorn Tree Cafe, situated on the ground floor of Sarova Stanley Hotel, has a fascinating history dating back to the colonial era. The cafe offers a top-notch dining experience at affordable prices and boasts an open-air bistro design that creates a charming pavement cafe atmosphere, perfect for a memorable romantic evening.
What a great venue. The food selection for the breakfast buffet is worthy of a visit. We enjoyed the combination of local and international cuisines. Everything is fresh. The outdoor area of beautiful with the plants and stained glads-metal decor. Service, as expected with the Stanley, is first class.

The was dish is a delightful balance of flavours and textures. The perfectly grilled chicken boasts a smoky char, complemented by a creamy, rich sauce on the side adds an extra layer of indulgence. The mashed potatoes, topped with crispy onions, offer a comforting contrast. The artistic plating and thoughtful presentation make this meal a feast for both the eyes and the palate. It's a well-executed dish that promises to satisfy.A good place to grab a lunch in town.
Kadeno K — Google review
This is a very interesting and historic hotel and cafe. The food and service were excellent. If you love old hotels with history, this is a must. It was very rainy when I went towards the end of the night, so no one was there, which was a little disappointing. I think you need to go during the day to get the full effect. If it is earlier, you can also walk a bit before and after in the city center.

One of the best meals we’ve had in Nairobi. Chicken Poussin and Point Neuf potatoes were spot on, Mutton Rohan Josh was authentic. Coffees were strong and better than artcaffe/java. Food at moderate prices, but well worth beyond that. Staff and service were top class.

Get the grilled red snapper. !!!!! We stopped by around 6pm to wait out traffic after shopping in the CBD and ordered two cocktails (well priced and strong) along with the snapper. The fish was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. We shared the plate and finished it in under two minutes. We’re visiting East Africa for a while and i dont eat tilapia so i was sooo glad to find red snapper on the menu at a good price. Get the red snapper!!!

Art gallery
The Matbronze cafe is a great place to go for a relaxing weekend. The garden is beautiful, and the cafe has excellent food and prices.
This is a beautiful place for foodies, lovers of serene beautiful spaces with amazing food. Gardens, great food and great bronze art..... Located few minutes from Langata Link, in an easy access road. It is a wonderful and lovely place to enjoy a family date or simply chill and enjoy different pieces of art. The garden is clean and tidy, with beautiful flowers and orchids, and a good place for fresh air and to relax. It's a great historical place, there are these original tusks which are amazing. It closes a little early, so I would recommend visiting early or during the day to enjoy everything this place has to offer. The bronze sculptures are one of a kind. The jewellery is good too. Their items are really one of a kind for both homes and, offices and outdoor pieces. The food we had was delicious as always, from burgers, the lasagne, sandwiches... everything was freshly cooked and really tasty. The best salads...hands down. So so good...open-salad bar you select from with such fresh ingredients. I would recommend everything. Next time, I will try deserts only...with some coffee.
Huzaifa H — Google review
Lorenzo and his team are amazing people. After a walk through the gallery filled with bronze sculptures and jewellery, a sit down to take in a nature, sounds, and sights is necessary. Tha cafe is quiet, hidden, and very accommodating. Their portion sizes are decent and very reasonably priced, given the location. It's a place to go back to to remind oneself of Nairobi's beauty.
Mwaniki N — Google review
With tables set in the grounds, either in the sun dappled shade of the trees or under nice marquees, it's a very peaceful place to grab a bite to eat. It's quiet and well kept. There seems to be construction work taking place which I assume will expand what they have to offer already. The food was tasty and came quickly. We followed it up with a peruse of the gallery and a photo under the giant elephant skull/tusks! We walked from the Giraffe centre to get here without any issues. The road off the main road is a dirt track before it becomes paved again nearer the entrance
Mrandmrsh — Google review
Lovely hidden spot for lunch! The setting is very peaceful with seating dotted around the garden. Food is good too!
Hettie G — Google review
I had an avocado and tomato panini with chips (french fries). The sandwich was bland, but filling. The staff were nice and the grounds were pretty, with both indoor and outdoor seating (in tents with heaters if necessary). There is an art gallery onsite as well, with beautiful pieces.

Beautiful outdoor setting place for breakfast or brunch surrounded by beautiful garden and fresh air, also they have a gallery for bronze which is quite interesting to see! And their food is also fantastic 👏🏽

Nestled in the lively Westlands district of Nairobi, Bao Box Restaurant is a delightful social dining hub that promises more than just a meal; it offers an engaging experience centered around food and community. This unique venue has been uniting people for over five years through an array of activities like board games, comedy shows, quiz nights, and even Dirty Bingo.
From the moment you step into the establishment you are met with warmth and good vibes. Tastefully put together, Baobox's every space is very inviting. The food was amazing! We tried their pork chops and goat curry. Well portioned and reasonably priced as well. The service didn't leave anything to want. There are lots of games to keep you entertained. Will definitely keep coming back!
Michael N — Google review
Great location but not much else to offer. The service was a bit slow and the servers seem disinterested, you can feel something is off with the attitudes but wasn't sure what that was about. The food was average at best. I had grilled chicken which was nicely seasoned but tough and overcooked. The card and board games are always a nice way to socialize. Overall, the experience was a bit underwhelming but definitely has great potential especially with the vast space.
Diana A — Google review
Ambient place and quite spacious. Good food, the platters are quite small compared to other restaurants and spots. Other than that, everything else is superb. Parking spaces with a car wash. All sorts of games and perfect for all sort of age groups and gatherings. I’d suggest you reserved a spot it gets packed quick from the afternoon
Kennedy M — Google review
The place is cool and chill for a group hangout. The services were amazing and the food was great. They also have board games for free which makes it even better. I'd rate it a 8/10
Christine N — Google review
Bao Box has a beautiful environment — the setup, lighting, and overall vibe of the place are really impressive. The food itself is delicious, and the presentation looks great once it finally arrives. That said, the service here really needs improvement. We arrived around 2:40 PM, and it took nearly 20 minutes just to get someone to take our order. I even had to go ask for a drink myself to get things moving. By 4:15 PM, we still hadn’t received our main dishes. It’s unfortunate because this place has so much potential, but the slow service takes away from the whole experience. If management could improve the speed and attentiveness of their staff, Bao Box could easily be a top spot in Nairobi.
Ed L — Google review
A very friendly places for your casual meetings and catchups. Its not always quiet since there are plenty to games and activities there to plan. They are a bit slow in serving but staff are friendly and helpful.

Connect Coffee Roasters is a top-notch coffee joint that not only serves up exceptional coffee but also offers an amazing breakfast and a variety of Korean-style desserts. They are committed to providing high-quality coffee with integrity, ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining connections with coffee farmers. The cafe roasts their own coffee on-site daily, serving only the freshest roasted beans.
Probably the only handful of franchises where you can get a proper punch in the face espresso in Kenya. Sure, this is the place where you do your laptoppy type of work and do those meetings you can probably have online anyway. But I was happy here with a book and enjoying the buzz of the place. The coffee was good and the staff were super duper friendly you'd think you'd know them all your life. Whether this is a good thing or not you tell me. You can also get the beans they roasted. I kind of regret now that having left the country that I didn't buy the beans from here.

Perfect Cup of Coffee, I had V60 . It was well brewed. If you are a coffee lover. You should try this place .Loved everything. However I couldn’t stay for Long, apparently the wifi is not stable. Maybe because it was wrong timing . Otherwise Perfect to enjoy a good cup of coffee ❤️❤️
Paulette N — Google review
Always wanted to try connect coffee and I happened to be in the vicinity so I decided to give it a try. ***Location*** I think the location is accessible, however, unless you know the area, this one is a bit hidden. Half a star for location. ***Atmosphere*** This is clearly for people who like working in coffee shops. I think it is designed with them in mind. If you like getting some work done while having a cup of coffee, you might like it. Strangely, I found the music not conducive for say reading. It is a strange contradiction. Half a star. ***Experience*** I didn't like the service, the menu and it was hard to get a seat unless you sat on the high chairs so I was always on the look out for someone to leave. I got an iced Americano and a pain au chocolat. The coffee comes unsweetened for those who take their coffee sweet. I didn't mind the coffee, but I didn't enjoy the pastry. I spend KES 670. It wasn't a bad experience, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is. I also don't know who I would recommend the place to. I had my own WiFi so I can't speak on how good their is, but seeing that almost everyone had a laptop, it might be good. I would give the service, food, menu, cost all together another star.
Susan A — Google review
I was told they are the best and although I havent been to all the highly rated coffee houses in town but I've been to a good number. So I can confirm Connect Coffee is great. I tried both the medium(chemex) and the dark roast (short latte - a type of coffee I have never heard of). And they were both flavourful and aromatic. This is the place to drink coffee in town
György H — Google review
The service is great, the waiters are soo friendly, hospitable, and helpful. Enjoyed being around the place. The interiors are relaxing, well-lit and modernly designed. Fancied the strawberry waffles but I got a Croissant which was fresh, light, and delicious. I bought Romeo's coffebeans from there and loved them, they also offered to grind them which was ideal. Loved the pink tea cup which they said, they always offer coffee for females in these pink cups.

Cafe
Restaurant
Pallet Cafe is a unique coffee shop located in Nairobi, Kenya. It stands out for its diverse menu of healthy dishes and its commitment to hiring and training members of the deaf community as servers and wait staff. The cafe also features three stores selling African antiques, eco-friendly household products, and locally designed women's fashion. Situated along James Gichuru Road, Pallet Cafe offers a tranquil environment with a spacious garden setting that is ideal for gatherings of friends, families, or remote workers.
Iykyk where it is. Well, it is on Google Maps, but if you're just going across the street you wouldn't even know this place existed. But once you do, you really can't unsee it. This place is an absolute haven all the midst of the chaos outside. Sitting down here really made me well and truly content with life, to the point that I contemplated a life in Nairobi. That's how good it was. The place is run by all deaf employees and there are helpful sign language which help you to communicate with them. It really is a whole different place. The cappuccino I ordered was a bit too milky for me, but I have no hesitations in giving the place five stars just for existing. Come here when the weather is good though. Probably a different story when it rains.
Kit T — Google review
A friend recommended Pallet Café, and I visited on a quiet Sunday afternoon. It’s a lovely garden space — peaceful, welcoming, and perfect for relaxing over coffee. What makes it stand out is their mission: they train and employ deaf staff, creating an inclusive and respectful environment. The service was warm, and the atmosphere genuinely inspiring. More places like this should exist.
Oliver H — Google review
Pallet Café, located along James Gichuru Road, is an inclusive & welcoming Café. The moment you walk in, you can't help but notice the art on the restroom wall. The art mural says interesting things like 'Yoga, Music' and so much more. After the restrooms, you walk through the parking lot, which is a bit limited. It's advised you Uber there. The Café is very well decorated. They have an amazing outdoor sitting area ; a few wooden benches, for the larger groups and a few smaller tables for the smaller groups. Guess what, you have kids/pets? Both are more than welcome at Pallet Café! They have a little playground for your kids, which is super amazing. Come with a poop bag for your pet so that incase they 'Go', you can clear it out. If you can't access a poop bag, you can politely request the staff to help you shovel the deuce. One super amazing thing about this amazing Café is that the waiters & waitresses are deaf. The Menu shows you how to effectively & properly communicate to them. They are extremely kind & attentive. Also, just signal them with your hand and avoid tapping them as that might unintentionally scare them ; just as you would be scared when a random person taps you. I requested for an Iced Dawa & It was really nice. I would like it to have more Ginger though. My friend had their Capuccino and he loved it. The service is top tier. Sometimes it can get crowded and you'll end up sharing a table with someone. This is really interesting because you can meet different people and have engaging conversations with them. The crowd is very diverse. About 92% of the crowd are from different continents and this is very neat. The prices are on the higher side so do come well prepared if you'd like to have a meal & a drink. If you have about KES 2500, you are good to go. Most meals are between KES 1100 and KES 1500. The service is very prompt! I love it! Oscar, my friend's dog had so much fun marking territory and strolling around. Make sure your pet is on a leash, so as not to inconvenience the other patrons. This is an amazing Café. I will definitely be back.

Really attentive friendly staff who create a very warm atmosphere. Lots of variety on the menu with the food being lovely. Nice spot for lunch in a hidden garden!

Fourth time going there. That really accounts for something. I love their service and the way they present their food Nice place for doing your assignments or any online meetings you may have. Love the atmosphere as well, very cool breeze over there. Nice staff, too, and no discrimination happens Try their fresh juices, you'll love them The apple pie dessert should be brought back to the menu, though.

Beautiful dining experience for a great cause!! I love that this company employs the hearing impaired community. Everyone was nice and attentive, the food was great!!! I had the Jane Kado breakfast and my son had the salmon and we loved it. The cafe latte is also really good. The landscape is beautiful and it’s a nice environment to sit and enjoy nature.

Kesh Kesh Coffee Roasters & Cafe is a top coffee shop in Nairobi that stands out for roasting its own beans and offering customers a glimpse of the roasting process with their Buhler roaster placed behind a glass window. The cafe's Eritrean roots are evident in its design, run by an Eritrean owner and featuring decor that celebrates coffee with a traditional Eritrean ceremony.
It’s a very very very tasty place. We tried espresso, capuccino, Eritrean coffee and avocado eggs toast. Everything is delicious and tasty, beautifully made. I definitely recommend this place to everyone

A cute and cozy place! Delicious breakfast and brunch items, along with great coffee. I especially loved the vanilla cake, crepes, and avocado toast! The staff were thoughtful and kind. I’ll definitely visit again if I’m in Nairobi.

Great place for breakfast, coffee or a juice. Also cosy for some reading or tele-working
Gill B — Google review
Kesh Kesh is a superlative experience - I don’t usually give 5 star ratings but this one deserves it - Alan/Sofie’s service was outstanding. The aroma of Eritrean coffee with benzoin resin herbal Incense fragrance on the table takes the experience to the next level. It is a small and cozy place - sit in the upper level. I came for breakfast and had a veg platter ( injera , lentils and veggies) along with scrambled eggs on the side. It was outstanding and a refreshing change from the typical English, Kenyan or Indian breakfast that I am used to having. Highly recommend for those seeking authentic cultural experiences.

I could not recommend this place ENOUGH. The atmosphere is lovely for working during the day, as the music isn’t too loud and there are plenty of charging ports plus strong wifi. It has very cute decor and the staff are so wonderful and friendly. I accidentally spilled my coffee and they gave me another cup free of extra charge. The latte (300 ksh) was amazing, and I also ordered the zignie derho (1,200) which was delicious and very filling! I will definitely be coming back again :)

We are a French couple who stayed 4 nights in Nairobi at the end of October 2025. Simply, we came here every morning for breakfast. The food was fresh, the portions generous, and the staff incredibly welcoming thank you to all of them! The place is quiet, beautifully decorated with lots of plants, and offers a great internet connection, perfect for those who need a spot to work. Note: for Muslim visitors, the food isn’t halal, but there are plenty of good alternatives available. Our absolute favorite part was the traditional Ethiopian coffee honestly, it’s the best coffee I’ve ever had in my life (and I’m not even a coffee drinker!). If you’re lucky, the lady who prepares it might even show you how she makes it if you come at opening time. Thank you to the whole team for giving us the energy to start every morning in Nairobi on such a positive note! ☕🌿

At Café Kaya, you can enjoy great cocktails at a great price. The interior is decorated with nautical themed décor and it's a family-friendly restaurant that is located in Viking House, Westlands. The food here is good too, with fries that are crunchy and sweet. They also have games to play while chilling and books to read.
Absolutely enjoyed dining here. Lovely decor and stellar service. Great portions served so quality and quantity guaranteed. The cocktails are to die for as well. Oh and did I mention that they have free games for guys to play while enjoying their meals?

This place is only good for strong cocktails during happy hour. Remember to make reservations prior. I do not recommend having a meal here. I ordered lamb chops and fries. The fries were basic at best and the lamb chops were full of oily sections. The chicken skewers were cold and bland. In addition, the waitress was slow and uncooperative.
Tracy — Google review
Small space but really cool and vibrant. Definitely have one of the best happy hour deals in town.... 3 cocktails for Kes 1000. Foodwise , had the chicken stir fry which for me was a 3/5 (Could be better). Service was on point... fast and friendly staff. I must note that it was mainly a very young crowd, not sure if it was just the specific day I visited or thats the norm.

Homely and rustic. Cute cafe with good service and lovely drinks. Good spot for a quiet date, board games with friends or you can put your head down for moderate work. The lady servicing was friendly and patient as we delayed with our orders.

If you haven't been here you're missing out! Food is delicious with proper quantities. Cocktails definitely not watered down especially that 3 for 1k happy hour. Service was much better than most 'high end' restaurants I've been to... Ask for Victoria, she's amazing! Won't post the menu since they already have it online, go enjoy and thank me later.
Vincent M — Google review
The service has gone downhill. 30 minutes to make 2 drinks. The mocha tasted like it was missing something. Anne brought the mocha a forget to take my order for my food. 1 hour after ordering an omelet, I was still waiting. Anne was disinterested in helping me. She would tell me to wait when I got her attention. There was only one other customer (I was the only customer for ofet an hour) so she had time to see what was taking so long and to inform me. The lack of care showed.

A lovely quiet place to chill at, the ambiance was so good. They have board games to play there. You can also reserve a table for your group in advance. They have good cocktails, though I didn’t feel alcohol in them as much😅make use of happy hour. Food was good as well and the waitress was very kind to us. It’s a 5star for me.
