The 23 best cheap eats in Gloucester

Short & Main is a standout on the North Shore, serving top-tier wood-fired pizzas, fresh oysters, and craft cocktails in a beautifully crafted space. It’s truly a must-visit—especially if you’re in the mood for a perfect pizza plus oyster pairing and a dash of creative ambiance. Just go in with a reservation, an appetite (maybe order an extra pie!), and a bit of patience during busy nights.

The NYT giving Short & Main “one of the best pizza places in America” does the NYT’s a disservice. They make good pizza but I can think of at least 10 places in MA that do better pizza without charging the prices they do. Right off the bat, the prices alone make Short & Main a tough place to recommend. $14 for two meatballs and a slice of bread, $17 for a cocktail, $13 for a mocktail, and $23 for the base Ricardo pizza - plus another $6 for a tiny portion of sausage- felt steep. If pizza is meant to be the star of the restaurant, it should be unforgettable. Instead, it was just… fine. It’s hard for me to hone in on the special qualities of any of the food because frankly there wasn’t any. Perfectly serviceable, but nowhere near worth the markup.

As I sat down to make this reservation after reading the NYT article mentioning this Gloucester establishment, I was beginning to have high expectations considering I'd have to make the hour drive just to try their pizza, but it was a risk I was willing to take. Pulling in to park near the restaurant, the first thing visible to us was one of the employees chopping wood in the back for their wood fired oven and a line around the corner before they opened. From there I had the inkling that this place was really legit. When they seated us our waiter was incredibly polite and helpful as he gave us his recommendations for pizzas to try. After viewing the menu it was time to order for our table of 3. To start, we ordered a dozen oysters (2 of each oyster offered) which came out cold, fresh, and incredibly delicious. The cocktail sauce accompanying the oysters was an excellent way to elevate the oysters as well. Now for pizza: we ordered the margherita, the ricardo, the funghi, and the louis primo. The pizzas themselves are pretty small so three to four is a good amount especially if your looking to try multiple pizzas. The margherita was very good but compared to the other pizzas the most basic. The freshness of the basil and the sauce elevated the margherita but at the end of the day it was the most simple. The louis primo was a step up with the cheese and sausage and a hint to heat with the peppers and onions and another must have. The ricardo similarly was delicious and the soppressata brought the whole pizza together. While all the pizzas thus far were incredible, the funghi pizza was the bell of the ball. The white pizza with mushrooms, cheese, onion, and a hint of lemon was the showstopper of all showstoppers. I appreciated that they didn't just cut up big mushrooms but instead used smaller mushrooms. The hint of lemon added acidity and zest that truly tied this pizza together. If there is one pizza that has to be ordered it is no doubt the funghi pizza. All in all I think the NYT absolutely nailed this review and frankly it's a shame Massachusetts doesn't have the Michelin Guide because believe me this place deserves more than its flowers, it deserves a star. When you have an italian like my father tell the waiter that this is the best pizza he's had in this country then you know its the real deal. I thought the oyster and pizza combo would be odd but it works so well that now I can't think of pizza without it. The locally sourced produce that they mention on the menu from the local farms adds an additional level of freshness that it hard to beat. I believe that this place might not only have the best pizza in the state but that it's WELL WORTH the drive from wherever you are.

Cute place with great food! We got the rigatoni, oysters, and the louis prima pizza. There was some live music in the corner, great atmosphere.

I sauntered in for dinner this past Sunday having attended the annual St Peters Fiesta. First of, not only were there a lot of people in the city due to the Festival, but this incredible restaurant had just received a nod in a New York Times review as being one of the top 25 Pizza places in the US, the only one in the northeast. Needless to say, I least expected to find even a solo seat, but then I had also not expected to be ushered by a very congenial and amiable host, who I later found out is the co-owner, Matt Cawley. Right from his warm welcome and how he greets and cares to thank each of his patrons, I knew that this place had a special vibe. Having gotten a seat that was amazingly still available at the bar, I couldn’t help but notice the unique custom surface that has a rich veneer filled with Oyster shells patterned in concrete. This is complemented by the very warm ambiance and the friendly service that you will notice all around. Neil and Pat were just the most pleasant folks one could have for a relaxed time at the bar. They made the experience special and inviting. The nice thing is that this place offers smaller portions, so one can try a wider selection from an interesting menu. I started with Oysters that were amazing; see photo with the description. I would say the one from PEI might have had a slight edge over the others, but they were all very flavorful. The next round was a delightful three slice Bruschetta plate which would please any palate; my favorite being the Olive Tapenade. The final course was the acclaimed Pizza, which are all personal sized, and can be shared. I had the Louis Prima, with sausage, red onion, hot peppers, mozzarella and basil. The thin crust is freshly made in the wood fired oven on site, and is as delectable and appetizing as the Times review suggested. From the lean sauce and hardly any grease, to the fresh ingredients you could not ask for a more satisfying taste in a mouth watering pizza bite. Even though I was full, I could not resist finishing the evening with a savory Tiramisu portion. If you are in town, it would be well worth stopping by this restaurant and enjoying the unique set of dishes, and of course the Pizza that catapulted this restaurant to a coveted list in the Times. The ambiance is very cozy and the staff make the place very welcoming. On the way out I could feel the difference when talking to Matt and the pride he takes in running this place, and making sure that everyone leaves satisfied.

Warning! Avoid sitting at one of the two-top tables against the wall of the bar area. The guests who stand there waiting for a table to open up are directly above your head. You will hear each and every word of their conversation projecting directly down onto you. Extremely distracting and loud. It looked like sitting in front of the open kitchen would be the best spot! Anyway, after seeing the nod in NYTimes, we went for the pizza. Fungi was fabulous with that touch of lemon, and a pillowy, semi-charred crust. Could’ve used a touch of salt. Wish we would’ve ordered a second pizza as one feeds one hungry person. Yes it does take 45 mins. Apps: All 3 oyster varietals were extremely fresh and delicious. Beet and peach salad was tasty but needed more pistachios for texture. Overall a top notch spot for pizza & oysters under one roof. I wouldn’t call it mind-blowing as some reviews suggest, unless it’s your first time eating artisanal wood-fired pizza. Lastly and unimportantly, there was an un-well woman in the lobby when we first arrived who clearly wasn’t there as a patron. As my partner and I entered she shared some unsolicited observations with us regarding our physical appearances. Very bizarre and most likely an anomaly.

A great spot for dinner in Gloucester. We went on a Monday at 7 and they were packed - definitely a popular stop! The service was a bit slower but it’s a lovely atmosphere so we didn’t mind. We loved the Spring Buck cocktail, and also ordered the Wellfleet oysters, bruschetta, Louis Prima pizza and Basque cheesecake. Everything was DELICIOUS and fresh with high quality ingredients. We originally came here after reading about it in the NYT and it’s on their list of best pizzas in the US. Don’t miss this one.

Great restaurant with a gorgeous view of the Annisquam river. Fabulous service but limited menu focused on tuna and other seafood. We had seared scallops and roasted duck breast as entrees and topped it off with delicious tiramusu. The menu is somewhat eclectic and pricey, but the location charm compensates for that!

A waterside gem. Excellent service. Delicious shortlist of dishes and drinks. Joined the waitlist two days out and was given a table day-of planned visit.

Truly a fantastic restaurant that we are very fortunate to have in New England. Talise is everything we could hope for: family owned, supports the community, celebrates our fisherman and the seasons, and most importantly- continuously pushes out Michelin quality food that never gets old. Wish them nothing but the best and hope they can be a part of our community for a long time and an institution you just want to root for.

We can walk to this restaurant. We made a reservation and they did not have it in their "system". They sonehow found a table in the outside area with blankets available...ok we are with another couple..lets accept that. No apology offered. Entrees ordered...one was delivered wrong ...chicken instead of halibut...but our friend said ok. he will take it. I asked if the clam sauce was white or red...white..but it was not ...it was a red bisque with lots of broth left over and few clams. We still had a good time but for what Talise pretends to be they need to do better. We have more reliable options with better value in Gloucester.

Was able to get a reservation sort of last minute for my birthday and I’m so glad I was able to! This was probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I love how everything is farm to table and the menu changes daily, such a fun twist. I got the bucatini with lobster and it was unreal, with such a generous portion of fresh lobster. Yes, it is a little pricey but it’s not overpriced for the quality of food & amount that you’re getting. My only slight complaint is that it was a little dark at night and my mom couldn’t see that well, but that didn’t take away from the amazing dining experience we had. I will definitely come back the next time I’m in Gloucester!

It's a fancy new place, very expensive. The salad was good, but too pricey for what it was. The service was great, the view is nice, maybe even nicer at night. It is in a neighborhood though, so I cannot see anyone just discovering that place - it's pretty out of the way. I didn't know what half of the menu was, so definitely a gourmet-like place. The dessert menu looked good and they have a nice wine selection.

Snagged a reservation on opening day and was blown away! My mom and I were so impressed by the seafood centered plates, all very well portioned in my honest opinion. Two entrees & an app (and dessert!) was perfect for two. Crab bucatini had a ton of crab, not greasy at all. Halibut had an amazing parsnip purée that balanced the fish. Friendly service and location made it feel really special, away from the busy downtown areas. Do be aware that parking can get tricky; definitely carpool when you can. Since the menu changes frequently, just go knowing that there will be something you will LOVE on the Talise menu.

Seaport Grille is a famous seafood restaurant right on the coast of downtown Gloucester, overlooking the ocean and docks. The staff were friendly, though it did take a bit to order food, the food came out quite quick beyond that. There was plenty of seating even at prime lunch hours, so we were able to be seated quite quickly. We got an assortment of foods, including their lobster roll. The lobster roll is priced at market value, which was around $30 when we got it. The lobster roll was a good size, with a good amount of lobster to eat. Personal preference is that we like ours hot, but this was served cold, but still pretty enjoyable. It just felt the bread overwhelmed the lobster at times, but was still delicious to eat. The clam chowder was good, consistency was on the watery side rather than thick but had a great flavor. The caesar salad plate was large, and tasted great and fresh. We also got a side of fries, which were like puffed up potato wedges, though we got too much and had to take it home. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal and well deserves its hype.

A 4 star restaurant with partial views of the harbor (if you look beyond the parking lot), outdoor/shaded seating available , good service and decent food. We ordered fried scallops, haddock tacos with flour tortillas and the bacon cheeseburger. The total bill without tip was $76 or about $25 per person. The scallops were delicious whereas the broccoli was saturated in butter. The Haddock tacos were great, and the cheeseburger was decent. The fries are more like slim wedged potatoes and were okay.

My husband and I went here for lunch because it came highly recommended on social media and it was decent! The oysters Rockefeller were my favorite part. We housed our food because we were pretty hungry after a long day of walking but the entrees were definitely a bit Boston market esque. Still tasty, comfort food but nothing extraordinary. We ordered the seafood trio and haddock dishes which came topped with a yummy breadcrumb mixture. They also are super generous with their wine pours :) The water views are nice if you get a window seat but we still enjoyed our booth. The staff is all very pleasant and our waitress was so kind and appropriately attentive. I would be curious to try a different spot next time but still very much enjoyed eating here and would recommend grabbing a reservation.

A tiny wait but that made me excited to give it a try. Packed in a Thursday!!!! Did not disappoint. The clam chowder was excellent as was the fried fish plate. Took my dessert to go but it looks delicious. Will visit again in my return trip to Gloucester.

I really wanted to like this place. I think I might be being a little generous with my stars…Great location, friendly staff. If you love giant portions this might be the place for you. Could not finish our dishes. I wish we’d have known we could have planed our order a little differently. I love ordering Calamari when I’m traveling. This was pretty good. The wedge salad was good, it could have need dressed with a third of the dressing. The tuna salad was enormous and I think they may have served me a whole cucumber.

Great location on the water. Was told it would be 20 minutes for a table. It took an hour. The lobster pie was good. The swordfish was not so good. The picatta sauce was blend and thin. The other entries were just average. Was hoping for something more.

Good food and service. We went for dinner and had the filet mignon and macaroni with pulled pork. Portions are big. For dessert we had the coconut cake which was delicious. Server was really nice. Plenty of parking.

Waiting time: 0min, without reservation, dinner 5pm First dish: 7min The atmosphere here is so warm and welcoming — it truly feels like a family reunion. The portions are huge! If you’re a big eater, go for it solo, but otherwise it’s perfect to share. We tried the linguine with clam sauce, both red and white, and they were excellent. Plenty of clams! The white sauce had a noticeable lemony tang, which made it bright and refreshing. The calamari was great too — crispy, with small, tender squid pieces that still had the skin on. Would definitely come back again. Highly recommend if you’re looking for hearty portions and a cozy, homey vibe!

The food was outstanding I had the fried clams. They were plentiful. Service was excellent and atmosphere was nice. They gave a real good portion . My son had shrimp scampi and said it was delicious.

Bring your own booze! Good food and large portions. Recommend the soups and the causeway combo, large amount of scallops, shrimp and haddock. Bread and butter provided as well. Super chill environment and friendly service. Only compliant is lack of seasoning on the food, with cheese, pepper and salt available on the side. No spice options.

We ended at Causeway after a beautiful day here in Boston. I wanted the lazy man lobster pie and my husband got the scallop plate. So fresh and a lot of food. Always great food, atmosphere and service.

It was pur first time at The Causway. It was PACKED when we went on a Friday night and we were lucky to get bar seats. The restaurant is on the small size and is known for its LARGE portions. We found this to be TRUE. I ordered the grilled lemon pepper salmon with broccoli and asparagus. I've never been given such a HUGE piece of salmon. It was tasty but a bit on the oily side. It was VERY loud but the staff were always attentive. I would not say this is a good place for a date. They do have takeout and sitting at the bar area in front of the kitchen have us a really look on how they operate. Everyone is always moving at moderate to high speed. Overall, it was a good place to get a huge portion of food, but I probably wouldn't dine-in again because it was too loud and it was difficult to hear what my partner was saying. There is the option for take out, to consider.

Strong 4 from my side, propably would be better if id eat at the spot, but had to do pick up and ate after 10minutes. Food was still hot, fries were nice and crunchy but shrimps kinda tasted tasteless and were like a 'gum'. Tartar sauce was amazing.

price was good food was ok, but the staff, YIKES!! the host clearly hates his life, and it shows in his work, slamming the bussing tub down (actually made my mother jump bussing the table next to us) and slamming dishes in to the point he actually broke a wine glass and a bottle of ketchup went flying under the table next to it. Our server was very nice but it was incredibly busy I get it (we already knew what we wanted thankfully) we ordered when we sat down got our food quickly but never saw the server again until we were done and had to flag for the check. nice place but not really a make sure we go back when we go to Gloucester place...... Also side note that coleslaw was sooooo bland needs something for flavor for sure!!

Love this place! The service is always good, the food and drink are generally great (though they lost a star for the quality of a couple of take out meals which were below par - eating in has not failed us however), the location is terrific, and free live music os ALWAYS good!

Minglewood is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Gloucester, with great staff, amazing food, and a unique atmosphere on the harbor. Their sushi is really good, and all the food is brought out super fast as well. My server Joe was incredible! I highly recommend Minglewood for a great harborside meal.

Such a positive experience the moment we entered! the more than pleasant host Lucy welcomed us in and found us the perfect booth. Edward and I couldn’t get enough of Shawna. She not only had like the best suggestions for things on the menu, but made sure we felt taken care of! We also met Caroline. She was super nice! Will be back!

We came at a relatively busy time, but only about half the tables were full. We were told 15 minute wait, but ended up waiting well over 45. Service was extremely slow and food was mediocre, but atmosphere was nice. You couldn’t actually access the dock from the restaurant to look at the water, which was disappointing. Food was also pretty expensive and they even took forever to bring the check.

8/16/25 Hands down best burgers in town! Could possibly be the best burger I've ever had. We had a Minglewood & smash burger which were absolutely phenomenal. Menu has tons of options & we can't wait to try more! Service is excellent. Sushi rolls were top grade We will definitely be back very soon. Fortunate to live so close to a top tier restaurant. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We held our Wedding Afterparty in the Captains Room last Saturday 10/25 from 10:30 pm -12:30pm . They let us stay until about 1pm. Zach the GM helped us set up the event almost a year and a half in advance . Everything went great. The food was out when everyone arrived , multiple people complimented the food . Bartenders were super friendly and accommodating, they let my wife hook up her iPhone to the speakers so she could play her own music . Which was awesome . We had a little over 100 people at the event , there was plenty of tables and chairs , and still a ton of room for people to talk and dance near the bar . Will 100% host another event here .

We used Minglewood’s side room for our wedding after-party, and it was perfect! Communication with Zach was great—he was super easy to work with, very chill, and made sure everything ran smoothly. The sliders and sweet potato fries were a huge hit, our guests loved them! They even provided boxes so we could take leftovers home, which was such a thoughtful great for the next day! We were able to hook up to the aux cord and play our own music, which made the night feel even more personal and fun. Everything was wonderful! Thank you so much, Zach and the Minglewood team!

We had a wonderful breakfast sitting on the outdoor terrace overlooking the Gloucester harbor. It couldn’t have been a more beautiful setting on a Friday late morning! We enjoyed the Fisherman’s breakfast which included a New England touch of baked beans, brown bread, grilled tomatoes, greens and eggs (your way). The Eggs Benedict platter was also so plentiful and plated attractively. The wait staff was attentive and cheerful. It was also interesting to see the artwork in the lobby and the unique gift shop that sells well-priced unique items.

Location & Atmosphere: absolutely perfect. 🌤️ We ate outside, and the weather couldn’t have been better — a little chilly with the sun shining just right. The restaurant’s deck overlooks the beach and offers the most refreshing ocean breeze. The staff was pleasant and welcoming, though I didn’t interact too much, so I can’t recommend anyone specific to sit with. The food, however, was pure chef’s kiss. 👨‍🍳✨ If you order anything here (even though it’s a bit on the pricey side), please make it the lobster roll. It was our first one ever, and wow — buttery, fresh, and prepared to perfection. The roll itself was soft, and the lobster melted in your mouth. Parking was free, which was a nice surprise, and after lunch, the beach walk made for the perfect way to end the meal — whether you’re on a romantic date or, like me, spending the afternoon with family. The only small miss: my dirty martini wasn’t quite as “dirty” as I prefer. The waitress actually mentioned it as she dropped it off and kindly offered to add more olive juice. The bleu cheese olives were delicious, so I didn’t fuss (and yes, I happily drank it). Next time, I’d love if the bar fixed it up before it came out — but that’s a tiny note in an otherwise perfect experience. Bottom line: this place is a must-try! 🌊🍸🦞

Yummy! I’ve been here twice and felt satisfied every time. The food is delicious, and they have beautiful outdoor seating with a view of the beach. I highly recommend it!

great view, great environment, amazing food. the food was so good I can’t even describe it and I’m a very picky person. But that was all overshadowed by the great service. Genuinely kind people, 10/10 service. If you’re visiting Gloucester this is a must because I said so, and you have to trust me. Best anniversary celebration.

Beautiful restaurant on the water with outdoor seating. Amazing views with good eats can’t get any better. Highly recommend getting the burger and the caesar salad

Food is excellent. Local sea food is as fresh as it gets. Special water views makes the entire experience a bit surreal. It does get crowded so orders can back up. Service is very friendly. Also serves the boating community with to go orders. Just a busy place but outstanding food. The atmosphere is very casual and part of the marina culture. Enjoy!

As a regular, I have experienced excellent meals for many years, today was like they were new kitchen staff and new owners that have never been in the restaurant business. My food runner brought out my order of bang bang shrimp, gave it to another table, they said it was not theirs, I said that’s mine and he obviously did not hear me! He brought it back to the kitchen. Then I watched him bring it out to a different table, and again bring it back to the kitchen! The third time when it came out, I said, “where did you go with my shrimp, you ran away?” As a server, his reply was “it wasn’t my fault”. Then, my Girl was craving a beautiful lobster roll, what she got was something other than that for $37. I don’t know what type of bread it was but the lobster was chopped up and looked like it came out of a can. It was supposed to be hot drawn butter on the lobster roll and it came out cold, no butter, about three strands of lettuce and an untoasted, whatever type of bun they put it on! This was not a lobster roll from the Northshore of Massachusetts that I have ever seen, and in Gloucester, you would expect nothing but the best! I got a protein bowl with grilled chicken and I must say it was very good, but the staff were not as friendly as they should be working on tips, but I never tip less than 20% regardless. They all could’ve used a lesson on greeting their customers with a smile and at least acting friendly being in the service industry. I expected much better from the place I have come to love, today was not love in return.. 😵‍💫

A popping restaurant! Busy and high energy. The view of the water & boats was so peaceful though. My sister & I got a variety of appetizers to share; the tuna poke, hummus plate, M1M pizza. The tuna poke was perfection, the hummus plate could’ve had more pita bread but it all tasted great, the M1M pizza said it had a spinach dip base and artichoke but I don’t think ours did unfortunately. Their specialty key lime mojito was absolutely delicious and I’m still thinking about it.

This was our lunch stop while driving along the Essex Scenic Byway (highly recommend). Lobster bruschetta was a creative, yummy dish. Can’t beat the views. We sat at the outside bar and the bartenders were super nice and took great care of us.

I used to love this place! Not sure when it went downhill. We drive here from Boston every summer as a tradition, but this will be the last year! We were sat pretty quickly, which I think was to our detriment. After being seated, we waited about 30 minutes before asking another waitress for help. We finally spoke to our waitress after she stopped by a regular’s table to say hi first, and ordered our food. Between our waitress and the manager on duty, an apology was never given for the wait, just excuses about the bridge being up (something that happens every day?). Felt weird, but they were down 24 people we heard, so tried to give them a break. Food was just okay, drinks that were described as coming with fresh fruit came out bare. The icing on the cake comes when the table next to us went to get their own drinks from the bar because they had been waiting for almost 40 minutes! This time, the manager didn’t even attempt an apology and flippantly told them they were between shifts right now. If you want a stress free lunch with great views, this probably isn’t the place. If you come for a drink at the bar, you’ll probably be okay. Just watch out for rusty salt shakers!!

Service from host to server was lovely as was the location. Sitting by the water watching the boats come and go was beautiful. Food was good but not as good as my last visit. Last time I got chowder and mussels and those were both excellent. This time we got salads and shared fries. Fries were limp and salads were okay. My daughter got the watermelon stack and I had a new crab meat salad. I feel like the watermelon could have had more or missing greens (mint?). The crab salad was good but I’m not a chef so not sure what it was missing. Was just lacking flavor and I added the lemon and dressing. It was all fresh but missing something 🧐

The marina is beautiful. The food was good - we got lobster rolls and lobster grilled cheese. They were great. Got a couple cocktails, also very good. Mine was pricey ($18), but I’ll say they made it strong. Respect. The calamari wasn’t bad, but I think the breading it is fried in is pretty bland.Easy to get to. Service was fantastic. Would definitely recommend.

What an amazing real deal Italian bakery and sandwich shop. Lots of spectacular specialty Italian items too. Olives, olive oil, pasta, sauce, a nice frozen meal section. And the best bakery with all sorts of Italian goodies. Pizza and some spectacular sandwiches. Family owned for many many years. Give them a try, you will be happy you did!

Subs and sandwiches are incredible… Stopped there to grab some lunch with my family on 8/25. Headed over to Stage Fort Park where we found a nice picnic table to eat. Their Steak Bomb Sandwich was so delicious I wanted to go back and grab another for the following day. We can’t wait to return next year.

This place is legit. Best sandwiches and bread I've had in a while. Love the throw back vibes you can tell they have been making these awesome sandwiches for decades. Amazing experience leaning against the brick wall in perfect summer weather with a delicious sandwich with all the fixings in hand. A must stop on travels.

Hands down THE best sandwich spot on the north shore! I’ve been enjoying Virgilio's since I was a kid. Recently I was in town visiting family and I stopped in to see if my memories of those savory sandwiches were accurate or distorted by childhood rosy retrospection. After a careful tasting with my adult tastebuds I can confirm, they are actually THAT good! I highly recommend the chicken Saint Joseph on a roll (add pickles for an extra kick!) The bread makes the sandwich.

Bread and sandwiches always perfect, beyond perfect. Last few times the lobster tails have been a little soggy. Humidity factor maybe, and the piece of tiramisu was frozen in the middle. I'm hoping it wasn't store bought. Again this has only happened once lately. Cant recommend sandwiches enough

Charming country store meets delicious breakfast/lunch spot. Grab yourself a seat outside or inside. The tables are sprinkled in amongst the groceries. Only negative was the temperature. It was very hot and stuffy inside. More fans or AC would be nice!

Great little organic roadside Cafe and store. They have all kinds of organic specialty foods and novelties. This is a must see and try experience!

We stumbled on this gem after Googling for nearby coffee shops on our drive up to Halibut Point State Park. Don’t let the low-key exterior fool you - inside is browsing Heaven for foodies and anyone looking for a well-procured selection of gourmet foods and treats, both packaged and homemade in their on-prem kitchen. Great breakfast and lunch menu too, and super friendly staff. A must-stop if you’re in the area.

This place is just amazing. The staff is great and super friendly. I have a laundry list of allergies and these guys went above and beyond to make sure there was nothing to worry about.

Food is never warm, let alone hot. Mismanagement. Very little chicken. Hard to find. Usually never answer the phone. Tonight, my loss because they answered. Much better years ago. Bummer. We are a family with small children and it was perfect for a casual dinner. The service was great and the food was delicious and both my kids ate everything! We had the steak tacos, chicken enchiladas, and the kids shared a full size chicken quesadilla. It later on got busy with locals which shows that it is popular! The only thing is parking is hard to come by so look around the side streets for one. Highly recommend!

#vegetarian food The food is filling and great for the price. The two of us ordered 3 dishes but we could not finish it. We ordered veggie tacos + crazy veggie burrito + veggie chimichanga. The ambience is simple and clean. There is ample parking on the road right in front of the restaurant.

This is mainly a takeaway place with a few seats. The food is very good, authentic and plentiful. We especially can recommend the chicken chimichangas. Nice and friendly people at the counter too.

Our party ordered multiple times in one sitting. This isn't indicative of the portion sizes (the portion sizes were huge), it's just that we were all hungry and the prices made us feel like we were stealing. You get a lot of food for what you pay. We got crazy burritos and chimichangas, all super filling. The pupusas and tacos were pretty good as well, but I would have liked more.The tortillas they use taste great. Definitely try one of the Tropique drinks from the fridge too. Guanábana was sweet and slightly thick. 8

This place was good. Sauces are spicy. Beans are not refried. There is 1 bathroom inside. 4 stars for service due to fact that we asked for no sour cream for one meal and pico on the side for another meal and they both came on it.

Vegetarian's review: A modest establishment with quite a steal prices for huge portions of authentic Mexican cuisines. We had Veg chimichanga, Crazy Burrito and one Veg tacos. There's just something about a good taco, you feel the harmony of raw ingredients mixed to proportions. I loved my wife's Chimichanga more than mine burrito. Chimichanga felt more like a pizza(I know weird comparison),but hear me out. The fried taco came with lime rice and beans. Inside the fried taco was a generous amount of cheese with sauteed bell pepper and onions. The taste felt like a home made pizza. But hey, maybe it's just me. The portions however are not to be underestimated. One feeds two. Loved the place!

Our waitress (Trinity?) was so great - knowledgeable about the menu, helpful, kind, and even offered us a blanket as the weather turned cooler. The view from the patio is great despite being across the road from the bay. The food was delicious!

Had high hopes because I love a good Greek restaurant but was just ok. They have probably 20 wines by the bottle and only one of them (a rose) was Greek. So many incredible Greek wines, why not have more on the menu!? Mezze platter with 3 small spreads and fried pita was tasty - but seemed pretty overpriced at $26. Burger ordered medium was well done. Shakshouka had only one egg and was way over salted (and I like salt) and needed some more brightness. Just too heavy and salty. Fatoush w chicken also over salted but the grilled chicken was very good. Shirley Temples for the kids at $6.50 each seems pretty crazy. But that’s my fault for ordering the kids a Shirley Temple. Gotta stick with water. Oh well.

Yella is a very nice restaurant conveniently located in Gloucester, MA. It has a nice variety of healthy options. We did not order alcohol, so I cannot comment on that. We ordered a salad and a chicken kebab, and shared both. The food was fresh, flavorful and delicious, portions were generous. Our waitress Stef was attentive and friendly without be being overbearing. Our dining experience at Yella was great, and we would love to come back. Thank you!

spent lunch with family at Yella on the Water and they had really kind and attentive staff. Super welcoming. I ate delicious lamb pita flat bread while the others ordered hamburgers cooked to perfection. We sat outside and enjoyed the view. They offer outdoor seating with umbrella. Overall, both hospitality and restaurant service make a wonderful experience in Gloucester. Thank you!!!

Located on the Gloucester waterside, this was a wonderful place to enjoy a fun and casual dinner! The staff could not have been friendlier or more attentive, including Mike, Jasmine and Sam! We were a large party and they accommodated us perfectly! The Mezza platter was wonderful, as were all of our entrees - even our Vegan diner was immensely pleased!

Bottom line, excellent all around. We are not very familiar with Gloucester restaurants but wanted a bite after watching the Bunker Hill reenactment. The service was spot on from the moment we walked into the stylish, intimate inside of the restaraunt to the moment we left. Our meal was superb. I had the Fisherman’s Catch. Perfectly cooked cod (I assume) rubbed with Za’atar (a spicy but not too spicy Mediterranean mix), corn and pepper relish, marinated olives, a little parsnip purée, and some of the best grilled asparagus I have ever had. My wife had the Shakshouka, which also was excellent. Good size portions. The wine list looked solid, at the usual prices for wine these days. Small but good selection of beer including a very nice N/A beer. Yella’s deck is attractive and has a view of the harbor. (Sadly, a small parking area is directly between the restaurant and the water and the restaurant is next to a large parking lot. Only negatives I can think of.) We would definitely go back.

Everything is delicious! My favorites are the cranberry scones and garlic bread but everything they make is wonderful! It is a pleasure to see Alexander and John, too. We are lucky to have them on Cape Ann!

Alexandra’s Bread makes the best whole wheat bread I have ever tasted, and I have done my share of sampling all over New England and beyond. The owners are warm, lovely, friendly people who run a high quality bakery. Although I am particularly partial to their whole wheat bread, all of their products (scones, cookies, olive bread, brownies, etc. etc.) are excellent and sold at a very reasonable price.

Bakeries are a weakness of mine. You could smell the wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread as you approached the store. We got there at 9 am and many of my favorites were almost sold out! Cranberry scones to die for, wonderful baguettes and crusty little cobbles. Heads up! The store front looks like a gift shop so you might walk right by. Just follow your nose.

Among the best bread I have ever had! Call ahead, a day before to reserve your bread. Ideal for long-term residents but not so much those just passing through. If they delivered across the country their bread would always be my first and only choice.

They are a wonderful couple making sour dough bread by hand. They slow raise their dough like the old fashion way and let it ferment slowly. It’s so delicious they run out quickly So put your order in a few days ahead❤️💜👍🏼😃🍞🥖

I love to come to Alexandra‘s bread. I come early to get them nice and warm fresh out of the oven. Of course they’re baking all morning, so really it’s just timing. I love to get my grandchildren cookies. It’s a family routine now and when my grandchildren are with mom and dad. I send them in the mail For all to enjoy. I especially like the oatmeal raisin cookies just like My mother used to make when I was a kid. Very nice people and also they have nice things to buy gifts and some used items which are wonderful. I got a beautiful rug that will look beautiful gorgeous in my granddaughters room. They have more than just spread. The scones have made many of my ladies very happy for I am a CNA. So wonderful with tea and crumpets for a morning ritual. Thank you, Alexander’s bread happy to support a small business. also, when you walk in there, the smells are incredible. A fresh baked goods made with love. It’s right across from animal crackers on Main Street right after the liquor store.

I can only speak to the Thursday lobster roll special which is totally worth it! $13.99 for large buttered roll with a generous amount of fresh lobster claw meat, served with chips and pickles. Can’t go wrong. Not the best ambience as you’re on the corner of a busy intersection, and it’s counter service only and very no nonsense.

Casual take out location offering your typical Italian Cuisine. Limited parking. Staff not overly friendly. Price of Lobster Roll on road-side sign advertised $19.99 but the menu board inside stated they were $24.99. Food was decent but nothing to rave about. The next door ice cream take out is an added bonus at this location.

One of the best lobster rolls I’ve ever had. I’m usually a hot butter lobster roll person, but the cold mayo lobster roll was absolutely delicious. Sweet, flavorful lobster meat and the right amount of mayonnaise. Bun is toasted with butter to perfection. My heart wants the tiniest bit more lobster meat, but for the price it is a steal and I’m just greedy!! My husband got a delicious Italian sub (and he’s a big sandwich guy so he recognizes a good one). 10000% getting food from here again.

We had two meals out while visiting Gloucester - here and at a pricey waterfront place. This place was better. Lobster rolls the best I have had. This is where the locals go.

My husband said this was his favorite lobster roll out if 5 total places we tried in the northeast. I had a bacon lettuce tomato and it was also delicious.

We loved, loved, loved the food here! The cheese steak was legit and the pizza was the best we had in New England. There isn't seating inside, but there are picnic tables outside and Adirondack chairs in the parking lot. Make sure you save room for ice cream from the Dairy Maid next door.

We were driving around and happened to see this place right around lunch time. We were craving for lobster rolls, so we decided to give it a try. It was a decent lobster roll and I think $27 was a fair price. It had a generous amount of lobster but nothing really special about it.

This place has lunch specials under 10$ but has a 10$ minimum on cards. That's the most contradictive shit I ever heard in my life. So if you want a "2 slice and a coke deal for 7$".but only have a credit card because it's 2025, you'll need to buy an extra 3$ can of soda just so they can charge your card. There's no special there once you got a pay the extra fees. Are people really that gullible? This place isn't a quick stop for one unless you have big pockets and a really large appetite.i gave it 5 stars for atmosphere because I grew up around corner and I used to work there back when it was a tourist attraction.not what it used to be.very VERY expensive pizza stop

Unfortunately I found the staff (all women) quite rude and short with us and other customers. The lady making the pizza was eating while making the pizzas which is a little unhygienic. The pizza was great though so I guess that’s what counts?!

Came here to specifically try a pizza I'd never seen and can't pronounce. Showed her a photo and half an hour later was able to try another pizza that was on my bucket list. Damn good too! I could survive on their rice balls!

This is my fave pizza in Gloucester but I just want to warn people that they no longer heat up individual slices and they are very soggy and not fresh tasting. The slices used to taste great years back with the old owners. Hugely disappointing, so make sure to order fresh.

Ordered a large cheese pizza. Me and my wife love pizza and have eaten from restaurants all over the north east. When I got it, it cost more than the menu price they had on the counter and it felt really light. They gave me the inflation excuse. Recieved what we would consider a medium thin crust pizza. It was decent but would not get again. Especially not for $14.50

One of the best pizza I have eaten in a long time. They only open from 4:00pm and you have to order about 30mn in advance, they only have one size which make about 8 slices. We ordered 3 pies for 5 people, a vegetarian, pepperoni and cheese and the Delaney's Special which pretty much all-dressed and probably 10 000 calories 😉😀 but so tasty and awesome. Sorry for the pics, we couldn't wait to get started.

Delicious pizza and great topping options: even eggplant!

The smell outside the pizza shop is what drew me in, it smells so enticing, and the pizza does a lot of things right. I think the sauce is interesting, not to sweet not too much basil or pepper and not bland. The cheese is great and it's not too greasy. The problem I have is with their crust. It's thin crust which I'm fine with but it didn't have much to write home about. There wasn't much crunch to it and it was just very dull. It definitely would not be my first choice, but if someone offered I wouldn't be a grump about it.

Only gave them 1 star would've given 0 but you can't. Its not good at all and its a pathetic excuse for "pizza". The garlic bread wasn't even garlic bread it was just a pizza covered in cheese. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Come to NY we know how to make pizza.

I order from Mike's place almost every time I order take out and they have the best food in Gloucester. I love the sweet honey steak tip dinner. The only thing I wish they would change about the steak tip dinner is to sell the steak tips as a side order if you don't want the sides. I also love the chicken broccoli ziti Alfredo so creamy and delicious. The pizza with sweet sauce is another one of my favorites from Mike's. I recommend trying Mike's place if you never tried it before they have the best food in Gloucester.

Delivery order took over 2 hours. I called to question what was taking so long and was told to bring it up with the delivery driver. When I pressed him on it he challenged me to a fight. I drove to the restaurant to get answers (not to fight) and I witnessed the kid that challenged me not only handling the customers in line but also the relentless incoming phone calls. Get this kid some support and he wouldn’t have to fight customers. Been ordering from Mike’s for years but this is the second time in 3 days that our delivery order took more than two hours after the expected delivery time.

I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant! The food was fresh, flavorful, and served hot. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was cozy and perfect for a relaxing meal. I especially loved their chicken karahi and naan – absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!

I recently drove out to Gloucester with some friends of mine from out of state. Growing up, Mike’s place had always been a favorite of mine. Upon arrival, I immediately noticed the new extensive menu that was vast in comparison to the one I’d known growing up.

Great place! The ambiance is relaxing and the service is excellent. Definitely worth coming back.

Food was mediocre. Prices are ridiculous. $ 14.00 for a not so good chicken sub. And 3.25 for a 1 Oz bag of chips!!! The can of coke was the only reasonable thing . Never again!!! To many other restaurants in this city that have much better food and are priced alot more reasonable

We eat here pretty often and it's always good. I like the fried fish and shrimp. Their onion rings are good. My wife likes the stuffed peppers and my daughter loves the steak bomb. The staff is always nice.

The smells driving by are what brought me in. Expecting nothing but the best for a seafood place on the water but ended having over cooked lobster. I will return for a second shot.

I eat here a couple of times a week. Their subs are good and you can get half-size subs which is usually enough unless you are very hungry. Their pizza is thick crust--I think Sicilian style. It is a small operation so they can get swamped when it gets busy. Capt. Hooks has a nice patio right on the river. Nice family run place.

Portions are huge and delicious! And the pizza is amazing! No wonder they've been voted best. We come out to Gloucester once or twice a year and always make sure we stop here to eat.

The lobster roll combo was INSANE. Fresh, refreshing & full of flavor. The slaw got me thinking they got kidnapped southerners in the kitchen. Grabbed a pizza for kicks & giggles and it also impressed. I highly recommend!

This has got to be the all time slowest dunkins donuts. The average about one customer every 6 minutes in the drive through. I could be filing orders from scratch made food in the time this place fills orders. I'll drive 20 minutes to go to a dunkins not owned by this family if I have to.

The sandwich they made was visibly burnt and very hard! They should have had the common sense not to serve burnt food to customers!

If and when I can, I love going to this Dunkin Donut's. Here's why, the staff are incredibly nice and eager to help you. It is a very rare chance that they screw up your order. They also get sh*t done in a timely manner... I suggest this location over all others.

Never in my life have I ever ordered My usual Hazelnut coffee and blueberry muffin and the muffin actually come out FRESH AND WARM. Like this was right out the Oven or microwave but either way it was amazing! Gloucester Dunks on Washington street i think it was thank you!

Loved the convenience of the online ordering. Fast from the time of ordering to ready for pickup. I had the pastrami bomb and I thought it was seasoned weird. My friend Hans chicken bomb sub and she enjoyed it. Service was good.

Asked for a steak and cheese calzone extra cheese been ordering from here for years. Picture 1 is what they gave me and picture 2 is the correct way I wanted it after asking for redelivery. Someone finally decided to do there job in picture 2 compared to 1.

Food is really good . We tried the calzone and the pizza which was really fresh. The veggie pizza had good amount of veggies. The calzone was so nicely made. The chicken tenders was also really fresh but could have been crunchier. Looked like a busy place as there were many people taking take out orders.

Been going here since they opened. Not a happy fan today. Got a pizza and Jr beef -which were fine, but the small order of fried portobellos were not up to snuff. Usually they are big crosscut slices breaded and fried to a golden brown. This is different from most places that just have small mushrooms. One of the reasons to order them here is because they are big and juicy. We'll not today. I wouldn't even have considered serving this to someone. I know the pandemic has affected a lot of businesses, but their has to be a standard maintained. Save your money or check your food before you leave. It will be awhile till I come back here...

Ordered a steak bomb minus the onions, it came overdone, burnt and very, very salty, it also had a very unpleasant flavor, tasted nothing like a steak bomb , I couldn't even eat half of the half of the large sub ...it was so horrible and into the trash it went. I've had steak and cheeses from here and never, ever were they like this !!! Never again.

Placed an order. 2 items. Clearly there was a miscommunication on someones part because I got something that I would have never ordered. Couldn't really understand the employee so when I went and picked it up it was wrong. The servers name was ISMAIL and I guess he must be apart of the stores income because when I asked for my order to made correctly it was the biggest struggle of this employees life and did really care at all about anything. Horrible service and outrageous prices for mediocre food

Usually like Firing Up for quick delivery and decent food. Have ordered chicken kabob salads multiple times and requested (and paid) for extra house dressing to no avail. This time I also wrote it in the special comments section to make sure, and of course it’s not there. Just called to complain, was told to hold and then quickly hung up on. I’ll probably keep going here because it’s one of the few options in town, but come on, 1 dressing ain’t enough! 1 dressing = 1 star.

Updated 7/16/24 since been going there for break almost mon through Friday since down road service spot on always have it be a pizza or bits within 15 mins it's ready for store pickup. Cant beat that atm with most.[old -Been showing up for break past couple weeks for the parmesan bits I can say been seeing great improvement on quality an size of the bits to now when got today's was good sized an nicely balanced on parmesan an heat to the point had to do a review before I finished lol]

Not even a mile away from our Airbnb and when we ordered the original delivery time was 8:55. At 9:10 we look at the delivery driver's location and he bypassed us and was 20 minutes away. Driver didn't arrive until 9:35... pizza was barely above Luke warm...

Peter always gives me an issue has major attitude and this time he dropped my pizza and proceeded to scream at me because he went to the wrong apartment. Not ok at all not how you treat customers

We came to pick up something for lunch. We pulled in and saw no one at the front so my husband walks in and there is absolutely no one inside. About 10 minutes later we see a worker walking from down the road and finally walks inside. He then tells my husband that the pizza hadn't even been started yet and we were on time restraints because of the plans we have for the day. I canceled the order after waiting for my food that was never even started.

Absolutely delicious food and ridiculously quick service. The moment I parked my car, the kind woman working walked out and gave me my pizza. It is quite unfortunate that I do not live in the area because I'd constantly be ordering food from this Domino's. Thank you!

We had no expectations going in but decided we had to try it. Lucca is a sweet sauce conasuar and thought it was way too sweet like couldn’t taste the cheese sweet. Soggy bottom and fell right off the bread although we didn’t let it sit long enough😔. Others in the group would go back Ed was a freak for this pizza 😔🤣 and would go back tmr if he could 7.0 from him. 4 from lucca. And me the toughest eater gives it a 2.7 😎😎😎

Honest but Fair Review I don’t like leaving bad reviews, but it wouldn’t feel right not to be honest. The service was okay—no issues there. The pizza, however, reminded me of something you’d get at Chuck E. Cheese. Super thin crust, way too much cheese, barely any sauce, and really greasy. I ordered a slice and was told it would be two slices, but what I got was one slice cut in half. Maybe the pizza is just too small for real slices. The fries were overcooked, not “extra crispy”,they were just hard and dry. I wanted to like this place, but the food didn’t deliver.

Definitely the best 3 way north shore roast beef on the island , normally only get in Beverly . Their chicken fingers fried and grilled are super good too with the sweet chili sauce .

Coming from Buffalo NY, this pizza is mid tier. The taste was good but crust too thin, sauce was light, a lot of cheese. SUPER greasy! I had to use paper towel to soak the grease up.

I ordered the chicken broccoli ziti Alfredo which should have been on special for $10.99 I got charged $14.99 and it was the worst I have ever had the sauce was to thick not creamy at all. I also got a side order of honey BBQ steak tips and they didn't even look like steak tips more like they cut up a big piece of thin steak and passed them off as steak tips they tasted horrible. I threw out over half of each out tsince I couldn't stomach the taste. Will never make that mistake again. I normally always go to Mike's place but since the pasta was on special at Greg's which they charged me full price anyways. From now on I'll be ordering my food from Mike's place cheaper prices and the food tastes a lot better especially the steak tips and the pasta. I will say my uncle ate his buffalo finger dinner and didn't complain but he will eat almost anything lol. It cost around $56.00 for all 3 items we ordered.

I eat here all the time with my girlfriend and her father. We also get delivery. Portions are good size, the food is hot and delicious. Absolute best pizzas in town we get the bacon and pineapple pizza at least once a week. Ive bounced around the menu and had their sandwiches and pasta as well. Service is fast and friendly. Also clean on the inside. Really love the food here my favorite spot in all of Gloucester.

This place is the absolute worst! They left my kids food outside in the rain for 40min. Claimed they called me.. didn’t bother to ring my buzzer or try to knock on the door.. never received a single phone call and when I finally called to find out what was going on they were very rude to me when I asked them to remake it since it was cold and wet they told me no and then refused me a refund.

I'm an old guy who mostly gets his coffee (so I gave the food a neutral rating). What REALLY brings me back is my love of coffee, and the young, energetic and frankly, warm-hearted, welcoming and courteous staff there these young people put a smiling face on a job that's made of long hours and little thanks. But if you stop there frequently. They adopt you as though you were family. This may be a unique feature to the Maplewood Ave store, but there is some reason things there are so customer service and family oriented. And Mc Donald's out to identify and bottle it! Maplewood Ave, Gloucester is the team to match!

The service wasn’t so bad, but they asked my family to go ahead and wait for a Carmel Frappe we had ordered and never gave it to us. The chicken nuggets were not good and my brothers Big Mac had multiple strands of hair. Horrible Mcdonald’s i do not recommend going here.

When my food was ready it was packed for carry-out and I had to come get it myself, I found my dipping sauces were absent, and this place ONLY HAS PAPER STRAWS!!!!!?????? Get out of my life! Never again!

I think they want to close. I’ve been to this McDonald’s out of desperation and always dread having to go. Gloucester has nothing open late so I have to come here and every single time it’s terrible. Like every item is just the worst. Worst fries worst burgers worst everything. I don’t know what’s going on over there but I’ve never been more frustrated with a McDonald’s. Just figure it out??? I’m tried to post a picture of how absolutely disgusting this mcchicken is but I can’t. Just covered in mayo completely and totallly -7 stars

We ordered 5 meals with 5 drinks and 4 fries. We received 4 meals and 5 drinks despite repeating it multiple times at the order box and again at the window. After checking the bag, they refused to give us the last sandwich. I'll never stop here again.

Ok service. There can be language barriers. FYI- they only have the paper straws for drinks and they suck! The texture and taste are off putting.

I drove from Norway Maine to have a beef with cheese and sauce. I was in heaven inhaling that perfect creation. Well worth the trip and the staff made sure I had a great experience. That’s to the crew at Kings ! Cheers guy’s ! Can’t wait to come back.

We just come by to eat something. We ordered chicken gyros and Greek fries. First to say the place is very clean, food is delicious and the stuff is very polite. P.S. I think they're prices are fairly priced.

We accidentally found this little gem. The service was excellent. The young, tall man behind the counter was super friendly and helpful. Everything coming out of the kitchen was fresh and delish.

Ordered the roast beef which was huge and delicious! Got the dinner with fries and rings which was also delicious! Roast beef rare like I like it. Fries and rings were crisp. Very friendly staff. Definitely worth the visit! Will be back to try the pizza and chicken kabob!

First and second time visiting Kings over a few days. Their Jr. 3 way ranks in my top 3 North Shore Beefs. Very consistent between two visits. A nice big stack of fresh rare pink beef, condiments were perfectly proportioned to the rest of the sandwich. Fresh lightly grilled bun. Tasted fantastic. Good variety of the usual fare on the menu, pizza, subs, pasta plus all the sides you’d want. Steak fries were nice and crispy. The people running the show here are (and I cannot stress this enough) *Extremely* pleasant and the place is spotless, which can be a challenge in a restored diner. It’s clear these folks take pride in their work, as well as how it’s presented. Absolutely solid choice if you’re in the area.

Kings Famous Roast beef Pizza & Seafood offers a classic take out experience, known for its generous portion, quick service, and a broad menu covering roast beef sandwiches, pizza and fried seafood. The roast beef is one of the best and the chicken fingers is my favor. The seafood dishes are fresh and the portion size is good for two people. I highly recommend King Famous Roast Beef Pizza.

I grew up in the Essex county area where a good roast beef is apart of the community. Tried over hundreds of beefs all across Massachusetts and this one takes the cake. From the sauce to the buttered bun to the beef it was all outstanding. The new owners know what they’re doing. The service was excellent, food, and location. this place has so much to offer. 10/10 highly recommend
