Where to eat: the 26 best restaurants in Izamal

After a week of traveling through Yucatán, we found one of the best Mexican restaurants, right in the beautiful town of Izamal. The courtyard is picture-perfect, the vegan food is delicious, and the service is very friendly and attentive. You have to try the „Helado de Yaca“! I can highly recommend this restaurant!

Stopped at Los Arcos for lunch on our way to Merida. Great food and fantastic service - the sikilpak with Valladolid sausage was a standout. Alessandro was great at explaining the menu in English, making recommendations and making sure our beers were replenished!

Wow. This yucatecan food is one of the best if’ve ever had. The sikilpak was new for me, definitely worth trying. The queso relleno was definitely our favorite. The yaca ice cream is a must. The waiter, Ivan de Jesus very kind and knows the menu to the detail.

We had a guacamole and a poc chuc to share. The food was good, service was efficient and friendly. The terrace at the back is small and a bit hidden but with fans so it shouldn’t get too hot.

Nice place to eat in. Try to get inside, the surrounding is more beautiful than at the lobby. Guacamole was nice, nachos with pork nice as well, lime soup was so-so. Very nice juice with pineapple and spinach. Good Mexican local food.

We waited about 20 min to be seated. And another 30+ minutes to get our food. This place only have 3 tables at the front door room and another 10 tables at the back, which is a small garden area. I am giving 3 stars for the wait, but I have to say the food was really good, presentation and flavor wise.

Fantastic experience here. We enjoyed drinks and had their nachos. The chef came and shared about his vision for the place and gave local recommendations. The atmosphere was very chill and perfect place to relax after exploring the town.

When I asked for guacamole and they were out of avocados, our server came through with an incredible recommendation: a local pumpkin seed appetizer that was unexpectedly delightful. The marinated pork shoulder was the best I've ever had. I ate it on it's own - that good. The deer was my least favorite, was still kind of gamey for me and didnt think the nuts and plantain changed much. The Vallodolid sausage and apps were also incredible. Highly recommended.

We came here to redeem our visit to Izamal after some of our plans there fell through. From the hostess to our server; I have to say that their service was excellent. The reason for my four stars is because I ordered an appetizer as my main since I don’t eat a lot. Unfortunately, the dish was not for me. Everything on the plate was great except for the longaniza itself was so dry and crumbly, I must’ve had three bites and then I was done with my meal. On the other hand, my partner ordered Poc Chuc and the dish was super good. The pork itself was marinated to perfection and the meat was super tender. I would definitely recommend that dish.

This restaurant has a nice setting and nice building. It is out of the center but if you have a car and have been to some of the other restaurants in town, this can be a good place for Yucatecan dishes. It is only local dishes so if you want something else, you need to go to another restaurant.

This is a great place, beautiful, comfy, the food is absolutely authentic delicious and the service impecable. Alvaro was knowledgeable and warm, our food was ready quickly and we enjoyed ourselves.

We arrived quite late and close to the closing time, after one of those storms, but we were received with care and attention. Cocktails were esquisit and the food was very, very nice, and delivered quickly. We were the only ones at the restaurant and even the music was turned on for us. :D

Wow! We had such an incredible culinary experience in this restaurant. Everyone goes on about the Kinich restaurant, but to be honest Zamna surpassed our expectations. We had the Queso Relleno and Tzic de Venado and both plates were exquisite. The place has a really nice ambience and service was also good. Overall we recommend going to this restaurant if you are in Izamal, better prices, less busy and less touristy.

I tried to have lunch here today. They were 1/2 full when I arrived and 2 other tables who arrived after me were given menus before I was. I finally had to ask for a menu and immediately asked for a drink which took another 10-15 minutes to arrive. In that time, I ordered a guacamole app and pollo asado, nothing earth shattering. The guac was edible but not great. 2 additional tables full of people walked out before anyone came to take their orders. My food FINALLY came out a good 45 min after I arrived and it was all cold. I asked them to reheat it and they warmed the chicken slightly but everything else was still cold. I ate the rice and beans, but the chicken was flavorless and had a gross texture. Worst meal since arriving in Mexico 9 months ago. Absolutely would not recommend.

I have eaten hear before and had the Conchinita Pibil again this time. So the food was 100 pesos but my two coffee's added 60 pesos and my friend's coke another 15 and suddenly the bill is 175.00 pesos. Conchinita was a little on the dry side this time and last time it was melt in your mouth good. Had to keep sweeping the flies off the food... pesky little critters.

A pretty, clean and air conditioned restaurant that serves good Mexican and some Italian dishes. They served us a delicious hibiscus drink and soft cakes for dessert. We love the fajitas. Lasagna was good too. Coffee was great.

It looked so delicious that we forgot to take photos of it and started eating immediately😁 The staff was the nicest and most professional I've ever experienced - they even turned down the music volume when my wife received a phone call. One of my favourite part is the freshly baked bread they give you with your meal, which for me really sealed the deal. Its the best Italian in Izamal and a solid choice if you're about. It's also very well priced, I would go back.

The place is located at the southern area of Izamal a few blocks away from the historic downtown, and at the same street you can find more things to enjoy like smoothies and shakes. Really beautiful town with a lot of colonial style architecture and not too many tourists. We were initially going to grab late lunch at another restaurant which was recommended online. However, the high ranking of La Siempreviva on Google Maps caught our attention so we decided to try it It turned out to be a great choice - prices half of that what you find at touristy restaurants in Izamal, super nice staff (didn’t speak much English but really tried their best to explain what the different dishes are), and the food was great! We had molletes with cheese and soft tacos in mole sauce - both really delicious 😋😋

This place makes no sense being where it is, I've always wanted to eat traditional mexican food when in Mexico and stick to authentic local places, this is not that. What this is however is an expression of warmth through honest cooking, value and hospitality. The staff are so friendly and it's such a pleasure to eat here that you're thankful you got to try something a little bit different and modern and easily made for Instagram. I had the El Toro, they clapped and told me it was a huge meal, it was, but it was delicious and not largesse for the sake of it. The juices were delicious and the service and atmosphere incredible. The only sad thing is that there are manholes nearby, so maybe you see some cucarachas walking and they are pretty disgusting.

Not impressed at all. Coffee was weak and watered down, we had a piece of cake that was dry and packed full of cheap ingredients that made us feel like garbage after eating. Waiter was nice but a bit absent. Owners were present but didn't look at us once, even when we tipped graciously despite the mediocre food they didnt care to look us in the eyes. Definitely wont be returning and would not recommend.
