Buffet restaurant
Buffet da Pepi is a well-established venue in Trieste, known for its traditional Trieste-style boiled meat platters and broths. Located at Via della Cassa di Risparmio, it offers a variety of dishes such as marinated eggplants, lasagna with sea bass and zucchini, and stuffed crepes with artichokes. The menu also includes typical hot pot dishes and a selection of sandwiches filled with ham, smoked pork loin, or cotechino sausage.
This place is a true gem! We loved it. They sprak English, which is quite helpful. Our waitress was pretty amazing explaining details about the food we ordered. The place is 'locale storico', dating back to 1897. Tottaly recommend it. The food is amazing. Local, traditional cuisine.
Sanel J — Google review
For what it is, the food is really tasty but it won't blow your mind or your budget. Their house specialty boiled meat plate gives you so many tasty options and I found their melanzana and zucchini plate to be well seasoned too. Glass of house wine in June 2025 was under 3€. Worth a stop!
Mackers — Google review
Very filling portion! I got the variety plate for one person ( 11€ without sausage, 15€ plus half of a sausage). The big draft beer is at 6€ and quite good as well. I loved it all and can highly recommend it. The bread you get upfront was a bit hard though and not great to eat.
Diego M — Google review
Great Trieste styled buffet, dining solo, service excellent and efficient at 7pm. Ordered the single portion of mix plate of meats and mash (without sausage), a 660ml beer and bread came with it for 'free'. Also had the appel strudel for dessert. All tasty and filling, all that for about €25 is a great deal. I WILL be back!
Jim — Google review
Very yummy food, meat heavy. Cool Italian - Austrian mix of food. Service was fast and super friendly. The strudel seemed like it was made with pie dough though, instead of the multiple layered strudel preparation method. Not sure if thats a local way of preparation.
Jaime — Google review
Boiled meat sounds unappetising but is delicious. Lots of cuts of meat, great texture and different tastes. Not dry at all. Very generous serving. Soup was luke-warm, though they did offer to provide a new one. Potatoes were a great, thick texture. With deep umami flavour from the bacon Toilet was disgusting. I asked them to clean it and it was still disgusting. Quick service as all the food has been pre-prepared. Nice to be able to dine early at 5pm, as a lot of restaurants don't open for dinner until 7/730.
Davina — Google review
Authentic Trieste cuisine. Shareable plates, that are priced just right. This is a non smoking restaurant for those non-smokers. Food came out very quickly, and was delicious.

Ambient is not something what you will enjoy in Pepi buffet but food is perfect! Food is domestic and well prepared, like you are home with your grandmother and she is cooking for you!! Best meal I eat in Trst!!

Nestled on a charming hill street known as Via Comici, Antica Trattoria Suban is a culinary gem that has been delighting visitors since its establishment in 1865. This family-run restaurant, now under the guidance of Mario Suban, offers an inviting atmosphere reminiscent of a cozy Tyrolean chalet with its dark wood decor and folk motifs.
This restaurant screams dedication, tradition, and quality. Excellent customer service and incredible atmosphere too! A must-go.
Lorenzo M — Google review
We had an amazing time at Suban! The food was absolutely delicious, the prices were very reasonable, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff was super friendly and fast. A special highlight was our chat with the owner, Mr. Mario, who gave us great advice on what to order and entertained us with some funny and memorable stories from the restaurant’s rich history. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Boban T — Google review
If I can give 6 stars I would do it. Exceptional food experience, exceptional service, exceptional ambience. All the compliments to the cook, to attentive waiter Eric , and the rest of staff. We have been given even complimentary dishes (pancake with basil and parmesan). By far, best restaurant in Friuli region so far. We will be back definately!!! Vladimir

If you seek authenticity and excellent service this is the place to go in Trieste. It sit up high on the hills above the city. It is considered one of the top restaurants in Trieste and has been the place to go for decades. Our hotel concierge suggested for a meat based restaurant with excellent pasta too. Our taxi driver followed up with how it is the best in Trieste The setting in from on old elegant building from the last 1800s. The owner has run it since the 70s and he has served three Presidents and the Pope. He was present the night of our meal stopping by each table to chat. Such a sweet older gentleman. The servers are attentive and very welcoming. Service is fast but relaxed. Their English was good and they did have English menu. The wine selection is large. The menu is diverse but engage the server in providing recommendations as some of the dishes are unique. The goose breast salad and the poached egg on Polenta with artichoke hearts was excellent and the presentation lovely. Price point is very reasonable, especially for the quality. The meat is cooked behind open glass. The decor is warm and authentic. The space is huge and was very busy on a Monday night. It was mostly locals present during our time there. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the experience as a whole. It makes sense that it has had so many accolades. Highly recommend.
Wanderers B — Google review
High expectations, low outcome. After reading several recommendations online and reviews, we were ready to get amazed by the famous Trattoria Suban. However, it soon turned out to be a more „average“ restaurant near the city. Our appetizers were pre-made, the poached egg had the typical fridge after taste and the appetizer variation was rather cold than warm and sadly not fresh made. Taste wise it was ok, but nothing extra ordinary. We had the T-Bone steak for the main, which was rather chewy as it was undercooked and not medium rare as we ordered - which we also communicated to the waitress, without real feedback sadly. All in all, we would say it was rather average for the meals we had on this day - which made us sad, because Italy/Triest has always great food to offer.
Andreas — Google review
This restaurant is superstar, 10/10. The owner and staffs are very caring and hands-on. They have extremely high quality of service mind. Mario, the owner, very sweet gentleman greeted every table. All dishes served are cooked in the way that it should be, not overly seasoning… very elegant. I had a wonderful experience and would be back again.
Suchada K — Google review
I cannot recommend this place enough. The food we had (one of each course) was amazing (though the beetroot carpaccio be a little bit more salty and sour according to our taste), the staff was very experienced and friendly and the place was beautiful! We had pre-booked a table and told them about our food intolerances and not only did the waiter know upon our arrival and hearing the booking name that we were the table with intolerances but she could also list them and recommended dishes according to what we could eat or could be amended for us. One of the owners greeted every single table and asked whether everything was alright and the staff is multilingual. Overall we had a great time and will definitely go there again.
Selina — Google review
One of the oldest reataurants in Trieste and still superb food. You.can have something from the great selection of tradidional cusine, but also a good steal or even a degustation menu with selection of meals to try as much as possible from the menu. As a bonus owner is checkih your satisfaction with food and service and it must be close to 90 years of age. Only downside is to find a parking in the vicinity of the restautant so it is hihgly recommended to arrive with a taxy.

We were having dinner at a special place, fullfilled with hospitality, delicious food paired with excellent wines. All my respect and love to family Sirk for a such a wonderful experience !
Brane T — Google review
Service was short, rushed and somewhat rude at times. Staff was a bit bothered that we were there. Quite surprising as this was was my 3rd time there. Food was OK, with only 1 dish standing out. Will not return.
Jeffrey T — Google review
La Subida was an experience. Incredible food, knowledgeable and kind staff, gorgeous space, and such care for every detail. We chose a tasting menu and we were treated to a veritable feast for the eyes and palate, with little amuse-bouche in between courses and some truly exceptional wine. Absolutely recommended for special evenings.
Camilla Z — Google review
I've been to many places over the past 40 years but I can say La Subida is the number one, ever, easily. Even before entering the place, you can feel the love they put in everything: decorations, artifacts, lights and of course in the foods and drinks. The place was waiting on my bucket list for many years and it was the best decision to make that note and now to complete it. I ate for dinner a 7 course degustation menu with a special wine selection for each round. Everything was just perfect. Will definitely come back regularly.
Gergely H — Google review
Charming restaurant but the service was brusque and unfriendly. The sommelier was excellent. The food was okay.
Ivy M — Google review
I had been planning this trip to Friuli for several years and a friend recommended La Subida, where he said he always stays. Our stay was amazing: the care, details, uniqueness and beauty of everything they do is truly inspired and inspiring. Our cottage was split-level, backing up to the vinegar house. We ate at both the cafe and the more formal restaurant and were really impressed with each course and the wines offered are superb. Sitting out on our back patio backing up to the trails and vineyards was beautiful and it is so peaceful there. If you go, you will want to stay longer than you booked. It is a very special place. It makes you appreciate everything more to be there. We felt lucky to have had it recommended. A highlight of our trip. It is a little bit magical.
Jenn L — Google review
I had the pleasure to host colleagues from different countries and cultures at Trattoria al Cacciatore, and truly everyone was amazed with each and every serving. Plates are uniquely refined, seasonal and local. Local wine selection is done with the same attention to detail. Grappa selection is best in class. Service is pleasant and attentive. Made me proud to host people in my region of origin.
Alberto B — Google review
This was definitely an outstanding experience! I was brought here by my boyfriend and his friends, and I was really surprised. This place is an oasis in the middle of nature. You can breath tradition and tranquility. The food, service and the decoration is one of the best I've experienced in Italy. Plus, they let our dog eat in the interior part of the restaurant (booking in advance of course). We will be back FOR SURE!

Caffè San Marco is a historic coffee house in Trieste, Italy, known for its literati clientele and timeless atmosphere. With over a century of history, it offers a magical ambiance in its well-kept dining room, outdoor terrace, and library spaces where events and book presentations take place.
Such a hidden gem in the heart of the beautiful city of Trieste. An absolute recommendation for every visitor here. The coffee and the cake are amazing, the stuff are welcoming; i changed the order 2 times and the waiter was cool about it. There was just a delay in delivering the my order but it is explainable because there were too many people. 4 stars 🌟 are well deserved Update: being a person who does not consume alcohol i did really appreciate the fact that at each time i ask the waiters either a cake or a product does contain alcohol they were very clear about it and helping me choosing.
Abdelmouiz C — Google review
It wasn't too busy when we went there and it was a lovely experience. The staff was a nice and fast and the coffee was delicious. But as a person with a sweet tooth the absolute highlight was their signature cake. But caution, if you don't like desserts that are quite sweet, this may not be for you.
Raluca R — Google review
Great cafe with a lot of tradition. It now even has one of the highest rated bookstores in the world inside it. Has a lot of specialty coffee and bakes their own tasty cakes (we had the famous “Capo in B” and Sacher cake).

One of the most charming cafes I've ever been too. Absolutely delicious desserts and cakes that I can't wait to eat again. I appreciate the vegan menu. The gorgeous bookstore adds even more attractivnes to this place. Highly recommended!

• Founded on 3 January 1914 • Art Nouveau style - ornate stuccoes, brass lamps, rich woodwork, marble tables, and vintage caféscape. Caffè San Marco is a historic and literary icon in Trieste. • The interior features painted allegories of rivers, coffee leaves, nude medallions, lion-paw iron table legs, and elaborate stuccoed ceilings—still largely original and preserved • In 1915, Austro-Hungarian soldiers attacked and destroyed parts of the café. However, much of the décor survived. • Literary luminaries like Italo Svevo, James Joyce, & Umberto Saba, have been regulars • Recognized as a Historic Café of Italy since 2005. • Functions as a café, restaurant, pastry shop, enoteca, bookstore, and cultural venue, & event venue. • Cuisine blends Austrian, Slavic, and Italian traditions. • Drinks include a house-blend of Arabica/Robusta roasted locally, fine Eastern European wines, and a strong coffee tradition central to Trieste’s identity. Very nice and vintage atmosphere. I enjoyed my coffee ☕️ and dessert 🍨. There is also a bookstore inside which gives a unique vibe . The service is a little bit slow , inside this the place is really worth a visit.

Offering a variety of dishes from both Triestine and Bavarian cuisine, the Rudy Brewery Buffet is a buffet restaurant that you will love. The portions are large and the waitstaff are very friendly, making it easy to choose the best food to accompany your drink. Highly recommended!
Great place with amazing food. The “Jota” soup is amazing as well as the goulash and any of the meat dishes they have. The apple strudle was also remarkable. I went there everyday I was in Trieste. I recommend doing a reservation in advance as it gets busy.
Patricia D — Google review
I can see why those that didn't get a chance to dine here would be so upset to leave a bad review because local dishes I had here were incredible and my server was very friendly and respectful. I spoke my best Italian and utilized Google translate and that goes a long way especially as a foreigner visiting. I came on a Saturday during lunch right before they closed and had no issues getting a table for 1. I started with the Tartina di Liptauer which had such great flavor and on a freshly toasted piece of bread. I enjoyed the local specialty Jota as a first course and the second course I highly recommend their Goulash. I ended with the Apple Strudel which was a little cold in the center but still delicious. These portions are very generous and filling. I'm glad I came on an empty stomach and even the server was impressed and gave his compliments. If you can call ahead for a reservation do it and try to make an effort speaking really basic Italian when you're there. I went with no expectations as I didn't have a reservation and was willing to take a chance and grateful that I had the opportunity to dine here after doing so! For a full course hearty meal at under 40€ I couldn't recommend this place enough!
Bobby N — Google review
Recommended by our hotel. Incredible Bavarian vibe. We can really suggest you try the sliced ham, the Kaiserfleisch, and the goulash. The portions are enormous, though - one serving would have easily satisfied both of us. Usually packed, so I would really try to make a reservation. Our dinner service was a bit slow - not the fault of the only waiter, I think that they were understaffed that night. Definitely a hidden gem. Do not confuse it with a similarly named bar one street over. The WC is a complete antique - be prepared to squat! Absolutely recommended.
Alasdair M — Google review
Looking for authentic local dishes, this place was a great find. We loved the wholesomeness of this place and how it stayed true to its region with its dishes. I've never tried tongue before, but you know what, I was willing to try something new. Of course I got the boiled meat platter and made my way through most of it myself. Staff were very helpful with explaining the dish to me and attentive whenever I needed more drinks.
Trinh ( — Google review
The food and service were excellent, a great place to try traditional Triestine dishes. The only issue was the air conditioning — one unit didn’t seem to work, so it was a bit hot inside, though it was a very hot day in Trieste overall.
Abdullah R — Google review
Really good service and traditional food! I loved it and as soon as I can I am going again
Ricardo — Google review
At Buffet Birreria da Rudy we were finally able to have truly local Triestine food, based on its Austro-Hungarian roots. Everything was delicious: gnocchi with cinghiale (wild boar), stinco di maiale (pork shank) and a sausage/sauerkraut platter. It’s a charming, old-world environment and the service is fantastic!

Ristorante Al Bagatto is a classic Italian dining spot in Trieste, known for its focus on local fish and seafood. Established near Piazza Unita d'Italia in 1966, this warm and sophisticated restaurant offers exquisite dishes that honor the traditions of the Mancussi family. The culinary ethos revolves around integrating nouvelle ingredients without overshadowing the freshness of locally sourced fish from the morning market.
What a wonderful spot. The hostess made us feel as if we had come to her home for a pleasant meal. The food was outstanding!! I would highly recommend.

Came for dinner at 7pm. The place wasn’t very ready when we arrived we waited 5’ to have our table ready and sat down. They offered some sparking wine to apologise. The menu was nice and the staff friendly but a little bit disorganised. The food was very tasty and we picked a nice wine. The staff was ok but not very attentive and knowledgeable so it was a bit of an awkward evening. Overall ok evening but not wow
Olivia M — Google review
It was a disappointing experience. The saving grace was the sense of responsibility and awareness shown by the restaurant manager. The starters came cold. The pasta came also almost cold. Cutlery followed a few minutes later. Our fifth guest got her salad served 10 minutes after the other 4. We made a special order for a birthday fruit cake, but got another one, quite good, but different from our specs. The rim of a water glass was dented. To compensate for the disappointments 5% was taken off our bill. Proper compensation for this expensive restaurant would have been a 30% discount - with that the bill would have come to a more congruous €45 per head for two courses plus a bottle of wine. But the embarrassment of having invited our son and his girlfriend out on his birthday would have remained ours anyway. Perhaps it was just an unfortunate day for the Bagatto team tonight.

A perfect evening at Al Bagatto To the birthday of my girlfriend we travelled to Trieste and I booked a table at Al Bagatto´s “”. The Privée is a whole room for you and perfect for romantic evenings or some private hours. Marco and all the other waiters were extraordinary friendly and polite, so we felt from the first step really much comfortable. The food was absolutely tasteful and really delicious. We took the menu with wine pairing and every course and each sip of wine were great. Thank you for this great evening and all the best from Vienna Florian Visit: 14th April 2022

Really nice restaurant. The service was excellent, the food great and the plates were really big. Pricey, the quality was really high. 150€ for 2, one vegetarian and one that ate fish. We had an appetizer each, a main plate and a dessert. 2 glasses of wine and 2 bottles of sparkling water. Really too expensive. 75€ per person is over priced.

L'Argine a Vencò is an imaginative establishment, showcasing an exquisite single-level edifice adorned with trendy contemporary embellishments. Offering an extensive selection of dishes, boasting up to eleven courses thoughtfully paired with various wines, the waiter's demeanor appeared somewhat lacking in enthusiasm and personalized attention. Utilizing locally sourced ingredients and serving modestly portioned meals alongside complementary wines, patrons can relish in the superb gastronomic offerings provided by Antonia and Romanos' attentive crew.
Michelin Star restaurant that delivers a splendid food experience in beautiful Dolegna del Collio, just 5 kilometers from where we stay when we are in the Collio and Colliorientali area. The owner and chef Antonia Klugmann has a cooking style which is sophisticated and innovative, though true to the region. We had the Life in Motion tasting menu. Very creative. The sommelier Roberto Stella does an excellent wine pairing, and with Life in Motion we went for a local wine experience. And there were some new surprises, the day after we went to one of the vineyards, Katia Toti, to fill our stock of their Friulano wine. Very attentive service. We were a party of 5.
Eva S — Google review
Well, after years of visiting top knotch restaurants (no matter the price), and lately trying to give credit to Michelin guide, this was a complete and total disaster. I don't care what I eat and how much it costs, I appreciate every dish as long as it's prepared right. But this was not worth an euro, and I paid 175 eur! Our lunch and whole day was ruined, it felt like someone is making joke of us with every single plate they put in front of us and we left hungry. After the long menu. I had never left a restaurant hungry. Never. Hungry after eating thick slice of bread no less. Cheap and poor quality ingredients, no understanding of what is the main ingredient and how to support it with the rest of components, small portions. I believe that everything I ate, didn't cost more that 10 eur. We (4 people with the same opinion, so it was not just my feeling or taste) talked to the staff member on several occasions what we think of the each dish, but there was no reaction. I liked peaces of old bread, covered with clear soup. And wine pairing. Not worth it, no way no how. Extremely average cheap wines. Sommelier explained each wine in 2 sentences, he had that arrogant attitude and it felt like it was too much for him to even talk to us. The room was hot as hell, sun was shining on the table and I lost my appetite with every bite I took. When I saw the main course, 3 small peaces of cooked pork belly with few leafs of grilled radicchio I began to laugh loudly. It was all a joke. Joke on us. And it finished gloriously with a simple leaf of parsley, covered with sugar. Bon appetite! The worst lunch in my life and 700 eur lost. I would like to get it back. I swear that if something like this ever happens to me again, I'll stand up in the middle of the meal and just walk away! Lesson learned. The hardest way. Michelin lost all stars in my book. After 2 hours we went for dinner.
Maja K — Google review
Wonderful meals fresh from the farm and the mind of a brilliant Michelin star chef. Bursting with flavors that surprise and delight your palate.
John R — Google review
I just watched the Stanley Tucci episode featuring this restaurant and was quite surprised by the owner's statement claiming that *gulyás* (or *gulas*) is not Hungarian but rather an Austro-Hungarian dish. Let's pause there for a moment. Gulyás is a traditional Hungarian shepherds' stew with documented origins dating as far back as the 10th century, long before the Austro-Hungarian Empire even existed. For historical context: Austria became a sovereign nation in 1804, and Hungary officially joined the Austrian Empire as part of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise on 8 June 1867. I do appreciate that this restaurant serves Hungarian dishes and for that, I’m happy to give 3 stars. But please, let’s not distort well-documented history. Gulyás is, unequivocally, Hungarian.

Fine dining experience where everything worked smoothly: the perfect stylish-minimal ambience, the design of the menu and the sequence in which the dishes were served, the storytelling that accompanied each course, the impeccable but friendly service. A high level culinary experience designed on emotionally true, unassuming yet powerful sensorial choices. Hard to make sense of the negative reviews I have read.

A beautiful 1 story building with modern contemporary decor. We took largest menu, 11 courses wine pairing. The waiter is a bit lack of energy and personal touch. Serving with local produce and wine with a bit small portion.

Fine dining restaurant
Osteria Altran is a charming Italian restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience. The country-style ambiance and impeccable service create a relaxing environment to savor the local flavors, particularly seafood dishes. The menu features elaborate preparations that are as pleasing to the eye as they are to the palate. Guests can choose from tasting menus or opt for an à la carte meal, all complemented by a first-rate wine selection curated by the owner.
Delicious food, perfect service

One Michelin starred restaurant, but I am not sure I would give them one. In the middle of nowhere in a farm house type of place. We had only 3 tables eating which made a place like a funeral home. It was not possible to sit outside althogh weather was good. The food is good but not exeptional. The winelist is very strange not too many Italian wines but larger French selection. Not bad but I would not come again.

(Translated by Google) I visited Osteria Altran with my family over the Christmas holidays, and I must say it was a truly special experience. The setting is extremely comfortable and intimate, making us feel right at home: warm lighting, elegant furnishings, and a welcoming atmosphere conducive to conviviality. The cuisine is excellent, with dishes that showcase Friulian tradition with a modern twist, prepared with great attention to quality and seasonality. Each course was accompanied by a selection of perfectly paired Friulian wines, further enhancing the dining experience (my favorite? Probably the rabbit dish paired with "Bianco della Castellada," an orange wine from Collio—perfect!) One small point: the price, considering the area and the fact that it's a one-star restaurant, can be a bit high. However, the quality of the service and the culinary offerings more than justify it. Highly recommended for those seeking an authentic and refined experience in the heart of Friuli.

(Translated by Google) It's difficult to explain emotions that are already difficult to understand. Eating at a Michelin-starred restaurant exposes you to unfamiliar flavors and combinations, and every bite is a new experience. The menu is rich in dishes that resemble paintings, and alternates fish and meat in a destabilizing way. The meat dishes are excellent, the fish are truly wow-worthy; a special mention goes to the salty miso ice cream, which, with a flavor reminiscent of strong mustard, disappears after a few seconds, leaving a spicy aftertaste that perfectly complements the meat it accompanies. The restaurant is intimate and well-maintained. There are a few minor imperfections in the service, but it's always of the highest standard.

First time in a starred restaurant, wonderful experience Because that's what we're talking about, it's not a lunch, it's not "going for something to eat" but really an experience, from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. We had 2 tastings, and an accompaniment of wines (outside the border) all fantastic. The location is really suggestive, I imagine it was created from an old farmhouse or farm, I don't know.. In any case, it is certainly worth the stop if you are in the area and worth every single euro I won't even say how good and professional the waiter and maitre d' are because I think it's almost obvious in such a place. I will certainly be back! (Original) Pranzo meraviglioso. La Primula, Marco, and the entire staff are truly outstanding. The cuisine takes center stage at this establishment, although it faces tough competition from the front-of-house team. I had the pleasure of trying their tasting menu with wine pairings for each dish, and I am eagerly looking forward to returning. Every plate was expertly presented, appropriately portioned, and thoughtfully matched with a wine selection. This resulted in one of the most remarkable dining experiences I have had in this region.
We stayed for two nights and had a reunion dinner with my landlord from 40 years ago. Room was spacious, clean and modern th restaurant was well worthy of its Michelin star. Staff was warm, friendly, and accommodating. Highest recommendation.

The hospitality left us speechless, thanks especially to our waiter Marko, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Every detail was handled with care and professionalism. First time going to a Michelin star restaurant but I can tell that La Primula has truly earned and deserved their star. The attention to detail at all levels was impeccable. Everything on the plates were delicious and well flavored, even the cabbage and spinach. Everything were so perfectly cooked as well. I normally don't care for scallops but they were so perfect that I may have fallen in love with them. Even the ricotta cheese and olive oil they provided for the bread were extremely delicious. I highly recommend La Primula and I am certainly intrigued to try the osteria side.

Siora Rosa is a charming restaurant located in the bustling area between Piazza Hortis and Via Torino. It offers a down-to-earth dining experience with the opportunity to enjoy Istrian stews, pasta dishes, and boiled ham either indoors or at outdoor tables on the pedestrian street. The menu features specialties such as marinated eggplants, lasagna with sea bass and zucchini, and artichoke-filled crepes.
I would really recommend this charming cafe/bar/restaurant. I only sat in the bar/cafe area rather than the more formal restaurant part. I sat at the bar which I loved, feeling like I was in the bustling heart of the establishment. It is an informal and popular place selling traditional food, Central European stuff mixed with Italian favourites like meatballs, jota, stews, and the sandwiches made with pork, ham and other meats with piquant mustard and horseradish to give an amazing bang to the taste. Delicious. Good value too. Good selection of local wines and beers. The atmosphere was great and the staff were attentive, quick, and very friendly. I very much felt I was getting an experience of the real Trieste. It was full of locals. I will definitely come back here next time I’m in Trieste.

We came here as a big group. We did not want to order the same options for everyone but the waiter insisted on doing so because they said it would make the kitchen easier but shouldn’t the customer have their opinions heard first. In the end we were allowed to order our own food but it was a stressful situation. The food that came was so so and not really worth the wait and the service.

This was one of the two best restaurants of our month long trip from Milan to Trieste. We just happened to walk past and both our funk meters went off! The place just had a good vibe. We could not get a dinner reservation (they book up about 2 weeks out) but we went for lunch twice. Their focus is seafood, with creative variations on traditional dishes. The first day, I started with deep fried sardines, marinated with onions in a sweet vinegar. My partner started with scallops on an asparagus cream. We both had the pasta with stracciatella, bottarga and pistachios, which was a home run. We also had a very nice half bottle of an Istrian Malavasia recommended by the owner. Everything was delicious. The next day, we each started with the linguine with clams, broadbeans and tomato. A total surprise. Rather than a briny, classic spaghetti con vongole, it had a sweeter tomato driven sauce. Very good. My partner had a carpaccio of lightly smoked tuna with mozzarella buffalo and amazing french fried eggplant, while I had the monkfish on mash potato (one of the fish of the day). We had a half bottle of Sauvignon, again recommended by the owner and a nice match for our meal. The space is pleasant and the co-owner is a delight to chat with periodically throughout the meal.

A truly wonderful experience! Do not miss the opportunity to dine at this trattoria. Service is outstanding, the restaurant is clean and welcoming. The chef is extremely gifted. His skill in presenting each dish is refined. We started with a mixed seafood platter, followed by the best seppia risotto I have ever tasted. The finale was was a housemade semifreddo with a carmel sauce and a crunchy cookie topping. It was raining, and we were looking for a restaurant to have dinner. While walking through the centre, we came across this restaurant and decided to give it a try. At first glance, we can tell that the restaurant put extra effort into decorating the dish and ensuring that the food was served deliciously. We had the cheese platter, and each cheese was unique in its own way. Their appetizer shrimp were juicy and crispy. When we had the mains, the pasta was definitely al dente, and the octopus was grilled perfectly, soft on the inside while maintaining a slight charred on the outside. Upon being served, the host was especially welcoming, bringing great hospitality to everyone including us. The staff were professional and very accommodating as well. All in all, this is a restaurant that was worth the dining experience.

We had dinner here and while the restaurant was full, the service was extremely slow. It took 45 minutes to get our appetizer although it was just a plate of prosciutto. The wine was nice and they have a large selection! The food mostly good tasting, especially the meat, but vegetables were too greasy. We were particularly disappointed by the hidden charges, including a charge for a 'complimentary' chef's appetizer which we didn't order and an excessive fee for an extra plate to share a meal. These cheap tourist tricks really detracted from the quality of our visit.

It is evident that the food was crafted with great attention to detail. I also tried their salad, which was fantastic. The only downside was the desserts I ordered; the mango puree in the semifreddo was excessively sweet and acidic, while the tiramisu lacked its expected flavor.

Nestled in the heart of Trieste, Osteria Marise is a delightful gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. This cozy eatery exudes charm with its intimate ambiance, featuring warm lighting and rustic wooden furnishings. The menu strikes a perfect balance between meat and seafood dishes, showcasing seasonal ingredients that reflect the local market's bounty.
This is a very nice neighborhood restaurant frequented by locals, e.g. at lunch time you will see people with their work badges taking a lunch break with coworkers and friends; at dinner time you will see locals accidentally running into their friends from a different table. They are also friendly to visitors, and they speak fluent English. The menu is written on the board in Italian, but the waiter/host is very happy to translate and explain the menu. The restaurant is quite small so I highly recommend making a reservation, because most likely they won’t take walk-ins. You can make a reservation by filling out an online form on their website and they usually get back to you very quickly. The food is very hearty and good. I would say it tastes very comfortable. The portion size is very generous and I would say this restaurant has the highest quality-to-price ratio in Trieste. Unbeatable value. For two people you can get a three-course meal (some dishes to share because the portions are very generous!) for under 50 euros; if you only get a two course dinner you can do it at about 15 euros per person. Great value!

Caffè Tommaseo is an elegant and refined café located in Trieste, Italy. It offers a variety of cocktails, coffee, Viennese-style pastries, pizza, and pasta. The café has a rich history dating back to its opening as Caffe Tomaso by owner Tomaso Marcato from Padova. Over time, it became a favorite meeting place for artists and businessmen due to its sophisticated ambiance.
We had the absolute pleasure of dining at this incredible restaurant during our honeymoon visiting Trieste for the very first time from Ireland and it quickly became one of the standout experiences of our trip. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by maître Loris, whose passion, knowledge, and exceptional recommendations made our evening unforgettable. Loris’s guidance through the menu and wine list was beyond impressive , each dish and pairing elevated our experience to something truly special. We were served by the fantastic Dino- Jo, who were equally attentive, friendly, and professional throughout. The service was flawless warm, genuine, and perfectly paced. The food? Simply the best we’ve had in years. So much so, we came back again during our short stay something we very rarely do on holiday. A top-notch Italian restaurant with fresh ingredients and a cozy atmosphere. The service is excellent, especially Dino, who knows the menu inside out and shared fascinating stories that made the experience even better. The tiramisu was the best I’ve ever had! Highly recommended—we’ll definitely be back!

We came for tiramisu but got inspired to taste octopus salad and seafood risotto too. Don’t have to say one was better than the other. Excellent food, great location and very kind staff. Tiramisu of course exceeded our expectations, so we left very happy. :) Would recommend highly!!

Amazing food. Amazing atmosphere. Amazing service. Food - seafood crudités and cicchetti were very tasty and a good choice to share within a group. Grilled octopus was delicious. Tuna tataki was fabulous and almost melting in mouth (one of the best seafood meals I have ever had). Tiramisu was a great experience. Besides the fact that you can clearly taste the coffee, and hence this dessert being tasty, one of the waiters made it in front of us which delighted our eyes too. Atmosphere - you can feel the history in this place, especially that it is the first café in Trieste and used to be a meeting place for intellectuals. Beautiful historical interior. Service - very professional with big extra (e.g. as mentioned above). The croatian waiter made the whole experience even nicer, he had good suggestions for the food and wine and we had a nice chat (e.g. about the Trieste and the café) thanks to him being well-read. Edit: Visited again - great again!!! Edit 2: Visit again. This time we had San Pietro fish which was one of the best fish meals I have ever had. While all of the waiters were doing great, I want to point out that Dino was excellent - the amount of discussion was on spot (talkative but not too much to be disturbing) and his presentation of tiramisu was amazing.

Italian restaurant
Ristorante Baracca E Burattini Trieste is an excellent Italian restaurant located in the old town of Trieste. The menu changes daily or weekly, depending on the chef's mood, so you're guaranteed to enjoy something delicious every time you visit. There are plenty of seating options, including highchairs and wheelchair accessibility, as well as free wifi and a full bar. They also accept credit cards, so you can easily reserve a table without ever having to speak Italian.
Everything was great: food, service and the restaurant itself. If you are looking for a traditional Italian (not touristic) restaurant this place is for you. We were a group of 9 people (2 families) and the owner managed to accomodate us. Usually it seems to be more like for up to 5 people. It seems like a family run restaurant which I love as it gives this special climate. Honestly recommend!
Qpinski4 — Google review
We choosed this place based on high score while visiting Trieste for short brake to Venice. The place was crowded with locals at noon with last available table for us. Got a good vibe of local family restaurant. For starters, we ordered carpaccio for 4 persons. The meat itself was good, though I had better. For main dishes we ordered a plate of Irish stratagliata (sliced) meat, potato Gnocchi and pork cheek goulasch, 2 plates of duck breast with pears. While stratagliata was a goodin terms of size and tasty portion, we were disappointed by others. Goulasch had a several small pieces of meat. Duck breast was very small and cooked uneven. Actually, you cannot see it under the pears. We also ordered a salat but never got it. Other than that, the waitress was really friendly. I don't know what influenced the bad experience: the fact the we came near the closing and being the last table or the fact that we are not the locals. Nevertheless, we left with a sour feeling.

When you find a restaurant that is only open for lunch on weekdays you know it is doing well. There's usually a reason why it is doing well. In this case it's because absolutely everything - food, ambience, service, hospitality, friendliness and charm - is perfect!

Nice place to have dinner with friends and family. It is an authentic Italian restaurant and does not open at night. Be prepared to queue and wait after you order!
Frederick C — Google review
Extremely rude staff. We asked if they had table for 3, the waitress asked if we had reservation, which we didn't. Then she just ignored us for 10 minutes while waiting to be seated. We called her many times and she wouldn't look at us. Then she asked another man to seat us. We waited for 10 minutes and she couldn't even bring us the menu. So once we saw the waitress walked beside us and didn't even look, we decided to leave. If you don't like your job, just quit. Being kind and human doesn't cost a thing. You don't need to be rude to the clients. We felt like she was doing us a favour. Teach youe staff some manners. What a welcome to Trieste!!!

Very nice place with excellent service and exceptional food. Even though the surrounding is touristic, this restaurant has a very typical look and feel. We shared some of the dishes we ordered and they brought us three plates instead of one - so attentive. Prices are moderate for the outstanding quality We really recommend it!

We visited the restaurant today and ordered Gnocchi in goulash and English cut beef with breaded zucchini. They were both delicious and high quality. The place had old Italian vibe. The menu was presented on a board, which was interesting. The service was also nice. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Trattoria Da Giovanni, located on via San Lazzaro 14, is a historic tavern in the city known for its authentic Triestine cuisine. This long-standing establishment offers outdoor seating and serves homestyle specialties and sandwiches. The menu features a variety of traditional dishes such as creamed cod, whipped cheese cream, mixed fried fish, bread dumplings, jota, tripe, goulash with polenta, and rich mixed boiled meats.
A classic Trieste trattoria like they used to be! The dishes are very tasty and well prepared, with truly delicious flavors! Friendly staff and fair prices. To try

One of the best trattorias in Trieste! If you're looking for authentic Triestino cuisine, this is the place to go. The food was excellent, but when I arrived and stood at the entrance waiting for a staff member, no one seemed to notice or assist me. They weren’t very attentive. Still, I’ll definitely come back to try more of their specialties.

Overrated restaurant. Definitely not worth the hype. The rabbit was cold, so we had to ask to warm it. The pasta were overcooked. Overall food quality is not bad but only average. There are far better options in Trieste. Don't fall into the tourist trap and please don't fall in love with my pictures!

Calimari too salty. Don't take lasagna, it looks like it is reused and tastes like it looks. Everything is mixrowaved and reheated Panini was okay, so plus 1 star.
S T — Google review
Authentic local cuisine in a very popular bar/ restaurant. Helpful staff who explained menu I. English. We had a plate of cooked veggies and the breaded anchovies which were great and the goulash with gnocchi which was not heated properly and disappointing in terms of taste. Cover charge of 2 eur per person. Overall I felt the restaurant was expensive for the fairly simple food on offer. I think getting takeaway or coming for the inexpensive sandwiches at lunch would have been a better options.

Until a few years ago, Ristorante Agli Amici 1887 was considered one of the top Italian restaurants in Udine, known for its provincial charm and status as the capital of a rich region. Despite expanding with successful ventures in Rovinj and Lido di Venezia, Agli Amici has maintained its elite position as the flagship establishment of the Scarello family.
A real moment of pleasure. The restaurant is really smart, but not old-fashioned, really elegant and modern. The personnel is extremely welcoming and nice, they'll make everything to let you be as comfortableas possible. You can have the aperitif in a warm lobby, and then you’ll continue the dinner in a brighter room. The dishes reflect perfectly the philosophy of the chef : no waste, he uses every part of the ingredients (vegetables, fish or meat).

Perfect. We were blown away... I share just a few photos 😊
Vinko Š — Google review
It's a very special place, especially as you aren't looking for it, at the border of an industrial city like Udine. There is a very warm welcome in a special area to get the aperitif and some fingerfood. Afterwards getting to the table and deciding between a vegetarian and normal menu. I would recommend going for the vegetarian option as it's really something new. There are a lot of fermented parts, but also the smockyness is in loads of dishes. With the fish/meat option there there is the squit which is most likely the most outstanding dish of the whole restaurant. Also the sweetbread is exceptional. In my opinion some courses are overloaded with different aromas and tastes, which is especially for the Risotto and the desserts the case.aybe mushrooms in a dessert are something new and fancy which isn't someone else doing but it doesn't fit very well too. For me one of the worst desserts in quite some time, especially as I was expecting something more balanced. It was just too rough. The service was amazing and really helpful and kind. The ambience is okay but after a long menu the air gets rather bad. Overall, a good restaurant to recommend if money doesn't matter but I wouldn't go there again as the menu isn't fine grained enough.

Blindingly good food and service in this Friulian restaurant focused on local seasonal cuisine cooked very well by the talent Emanuele Scarello and his team. Wine pairing is recommended. I would lean a little more towards lunch just to get to the brighter side of the dining room. Leave plenty of room at the beginning for aperitivo!

Pasticceria Cioccolateria Peratoner is a delightful establishment that offers an impressive array of delicious pastries, pralines, and coffee. With a reputation for their proficiency in chocolate craftsmanship and hot chocolate expertise, this classy and slightly traditional cake shop uses premium cocoa beans sourced from Brazil, Ecuador, and Venezuela to create a harmonious blend. The hot chocolate they serve is decadently rich, boasting earthy flavors with just the right amount of sweetness.
The atmosphere inside is really Beautiful, the staff is very pleasant and helpful. We had coffee, a coffee smoothie and ice cream. The coffee cocktail was perfect, espresso coffee with ice cream and cream. I definitely recommend this cocktail on a hot day. The ice cream is perfect, good consistency. The cake was interesting, unusual, but when you leave the café, you can still taste it in your mouth - perfect!

I’ve been here several times and it is always a favorite. Such a unique little cafe with much more to it than meets the eye from the street. It is a great place to buy gifts or simply enjoy a cappuccino! I always feel as though I’m in a little dollhouse tea party whenever I am in the back room.

Fantastic selection of pastries, pralines and coffee! Pasticceria Cioccolateria Peratoner is a classy, somewhat old school pasticceria known for their chocolate skills and hot chocolate. Their harmonious blend is made from cocoa beans from Brazil, Ecuador and Venezuela. The hot chocolate is rich, earthy and just barely sweet. Topped with freshly whipped cream, it’s a dream! Their pastries are also great: soft brioche buns with a generous filling of pastry cream, crisp butter pastry with a velvety pistacchio cream, etc.

Came for lunch, arrived 1350 with no waiting. They have a daily sale from Tues - Sat from 8-14 that includes meal, water, and coffee for a set price (12 euros). By the time the server came over at 1403, he said the sale was over at 14 hours, even though we sat there for 13 minutes before the waiter came to take our orders. I ordered the English breakfast plate and it was good. By 1430, there was a very long line to be seated inside, and the staff was so busy that they never came back and didn't even get the coffee that was also ordered. I tried ordering some chocolate desserts since we couldn't get the waiter to help us while seated, but that did not work either. Never got the nutella cookies i wanted. This place may get a better score when not too busy.

Stopped in for a wine & took a break... A must stop in due to all the chocolate, pastries, coffee, etc. It sooo worth your time. Great attentive staff. The staff doesn't stop working, cleaning, & or setting up for the next guests. And you are treated as VIP guests...
Scott J — Google review
As always with Peratoner, the hot chocolate was perfect. Their cocoa blend adds a special flavor to the chocolate that cannot be found anywhere else. Prepared on a water base, the chocolate has a dark and deep color, followed by just the right density. At Peratoner, they always provide a homely but at the same time professional chocolate ambiance. From the very first step into the bar, you could detect the faint smell of sweets. As always, the staff is extremely friendly, and they go out of their way to make the experience even more pleasant.

Food: The food was phenomenal and very reasonably priced (~ 12-20 euros/ dish). We had the fish of the day, tagliatelle with vegetables and tagliatelle with courgette and shrimps. There's really nothing to complain about, the food is simply great. Compliments to the chef! Service: The service was very friendly. Our waitress showed extraordinary patience and took a lot of time when we had misunderstandings when ordering. In her place, we would have understood very well if she had become impatient and quickly closed the order taking. She explained the food and wine well. A very endeavoured waitress! Atmosphere: The restaurant is located in a side street of a somewhat larger street. You can hear the traffic, but it is by no means disturbing. The guest garden is surrounded by green plants, which creates a very pleasant atmosphere. The table was beautifully laid, and we especially liked the glasses.

Stopped here while visiting Trieste. Small restaurant with few tables inside but, wow, the food was delicious and the service was great!! Their house cabernet was very good. The salad was so fresh! And the fried seafood platter was soooo good!! Every single item on that platter tasted like it had just been caught! Definitely recommend 5 stars all the way. The only regret I have is that we went on our last day so we couldn't enjoy it again.

The food here was really delicious. We took the fried fish coated in pistachio to share as a starter, it’s a main but makes a good starter – if I was getting it as a main I would probably order a side. Then after that we ordered one of the specials which was truffle pasta, which was so delicious and very reasonably priced. I would definitely go here again. All the servers were really friendly and attentive — and spoke good English (but they have the menu available in English and German, so you can just point things out too)

Bad food . They brought a menu in which information about the content of fish in the dish is written in Italian, which we do not know. The waiter did not ask us about allergies and brought a pasta dish with fish, to which my husband is severely allergic. Our comment was answered, according to the law we did everything correctly, we should not write in English, although the main menu is in two languages. There were no apologies, the dish was included in the bill. I ordered sea bass in the oven. In fact, they brought half-cooked, cold fish, which, after trying it, I did not eat - it was not tasty. The dish was taken away, no comments were registered, everything was included in the bill. I do NOT recommend this place as it does not correspond to the stated menu, price level and extremely arrogant service. The empty tables speak for themselves. There are no visitors..

On the plus side, the food was excellent and the staff was very friendly and helpful. But the place is noisy. The standard rooms are located just across the ristorante, and when it happens to be quiet the neighbours may decide to spend the hot evening outside the house to have a friendly chat well into the night. The restaurant's inviting ambiance is enhanced by friendly staff who make you feel right at home amidst beautiful mountain scenery.
Our first meal on the way to Grado. The sweet Restaurant is located in a plateau, surrounded by green mountains. In front of the house are standing two donkeys, eating the grass, breathing the fresh air. The purple blue moonflower greeted us firstly. A small path strengths to the Borgo Poscolle. Waitresses they are very kind, friendly and warm. Inside the renovation is like home. Comfortable and full of paintings on the wall. Menu is written by Italien but it doesn’t disturb gourmet to explore the delicious cuisine. I ordered Tonno di coniglo con verdure in agerodolce as appetizer, but actually the portion is just as huge as a main dish. The pickles provide freshness and make me have more gusto to eat more. As second course I had tagliolini Al Nero con gamberi, zucchini. Since the dish presented in front of me, I smelled the sea! Of course I finished all of them without left any sauce. 😋 The fact is that I am good at picking up dishes. I am totally satisfied with what I ordered. Here also offers good quality ham, bacon, salami…. Top! So if you can’t stand hunger till Udine, just come here to have a nice rest.

It's really so cute in this place it's a perfect family spot or dining for two. We enjoyed the black pasta with shrimp and the steak as well as the cheese plate. It's only 15 min through a small town and well worth the time to avoid gross off the highway places. Grateful for a lovely meal. Thank you! Merci! Grazie!

This was my biggest disappointment from all of my holiday in Carnia. It was suggested as a place that you can eat very nice food and enjoy the county side, but didn't leave in me this impression when i was there. The portions are little, the wine was average and the prices for a portion high. The stuff was not helpful.

The dining experience at Osteria Gostilna Koršič is incredibly positive, with a degustation menu that showcases world-class cuisine. The restaurant takes traditional dishes and adds unique twists, using fresh local ingredients. The orange wines served perfectly complement the food. The quality of the additional dishes on the menu matches that of the tasting menu, making this restaurant worthy of a Michelin star. Despite previous visits to the region, it is surprising that this place hasn't been discovered before.
A super positive gastro experience! The degustation menu was world class, using fresh local ingredients to create new twists to traditional dishes, and creating new. Execellent orange wines that are matching the food in a superb way. With more dishes on the menu keeping the same quality as the tasting menu, this restaurant would deserve a Michelin star. Very surprised I haven’t heard about this place before, despite several visits to the region!

We spontaneously visited Osteria Gostilna Koršič after it was recommended to us by the staff at the winery we were staying at and we’re so glad we did! From the moment we arrived, the service was incredibly friendly, warm, and welcoming. You could really feel the heart in both the hospitality and the food. We had the Biechi and Gnocchi, and the dish called “Franc” with lamb steak. Both the lamb and the Biechi were hands down the best food we’ve had on our entire European road trip. It was so good that we decided to come back for dinner the same day and we were just as impressed! This time we tried the Summer Burrata, Fusilli, and Grilled Beef with rosemary and potatoes. For dessert, we shared the Elderflower sorbet with gin and rosemary, and the crepes with vanilla ice cream and wild berries, all of it delicious. The setting is charming and cosy, especially the garden, and the overall vibe is relaxed and full of warmth. The staff made the whole experience extra special with their genuine hospitality. A true hidden gem. I highly recommend!

Great restaurant at Ital/Slov border, close to Gorizia. Delicious food - my wife and I had pasta and gnocchi - we also took tasty sweets, combined with excellent domestic wine. Good prices, efficient service and lovely huge garden with tables in a shade… Lovely evening spent there!

Quite enjoyed summer dining in the garden of this nice restaurant facing Slovenia. Good food, enjoyable selection of local wines and friendly service. Would have given 5 stars if prices were not slightly above the average.

What a fantastic place just outside San Floriano al Collio! The space is welcoming and in summer tables are set up in the beautiful and peaceful garden outside. The staff is kind and knowledgeable, they even recommended a few hikes nearby. The food is absolutely delicious: we tried Biechi as a first course, followed by two meat dishes - I had the veal and it was perfectly done on the grill. Portions are generous but not excessive, and wine and desserts were great too. And prices are very reasonable. I can't recommend this enough ,- if you're in the area, stop here for lunch or dinner!

Excellent food, fresh fish, lovely atmosphere. Dishes are very special. Outside seating is super pleasant and socially distanced. Wine List was good. Thats about it. Service served VERY warm wine twice (first was undrinkable, second was ok after 15 mins in the ice bag). Starter was an octopus salad that lacked salt and pepper and the polpo was chewy. The tonno (tuna) steaks we had for our main course was grilled simply dead, I dont think I have ever had dryer tuna than this. Sad to handle a fish this way, very disappointed after we had this recommended. Not coming again. 2nd star for the side dish for the main course.

Mimì e Cocotte, located near the Museo Revoltella and Salone degli Incanti in Trieste, offers a delightful dining experience. The chef/owner, Giovanna, brings her Tuscan-Emilian heritage to the forefront with a menu featuring traditional Italian dishes like lasagne, homemade tagliatelle, fried meatballs, and suppli.
We came for dinner on our last night in Trieste and are so glad we found this amazing place! The food was delicious, the pasta was being hand made in the corner of the restaurant by what looked like the restaurant‘s „resident grandparents“, the wines were fantastic and service lovely. It was so nice we would consider a trip just to come back to this place!

Came here on my first night at Trieste back on March 22nd. When I told them that I have a reservation in Italian, they were very welcoming and seated me. What I remember is that I had a Veggie Soup with Chocolate Cake. It was really good and the place inside was beautiful as well.

Definitely a recommendation, staff is very nice and the food was great, went there for breakfast and had to come again on our way to the Airport, because it was so good!

Fantastic quaint restaurant. You have to look for it (off the main drag). Worth the effort! Tagliatelle with beef ragu was fantastic! We had seen the photo from another review, and we knew we wanted it. Rich and delicious beef sauce on homemade pasta. Beautiful presentation. Since it was lunch, this dish and the warm, homemade bread we're all we could eat. The staff talked a lot with us. Very hospitable and welcoming. Fabulous experience!

They were terrific for breakfast even if the options felt a bit UK/US oriented. I liked the vibe and the food was delicious with salmon pancakes (basically bagels and lox, replace the bagel). I came back for dinner and apparently I made an impression (be polite, don't make a mess, clean up after yourself), and it was like walking into a friend's place. Not only recognized, it was as if they pulled out the stops. They hunted down a vermouth as an apertivo (delicious). Tis the season for pumpkin/zucca and with the chestnuts it was better than I even hoped for. Then I get to the Cacio e Pepe, a dish their known for an it wasn't disappointing. Creamy and a kick as if you told the pepper person when and with a smirk gave it about 5 more turns of the grinder. The digestive was also delicious and as far as Amaro's and booze in general, they have many local choices.
Micah W — Google review
The food here is really solid: their cacio e pepe is excellent, their chocolate cake delectable and their seared tuna with seasonal vegetables decent (albeit a little overcooked). The natural wines are also good. Prices are a little on the steeper end for Trieste and the portion size but as a tourist it’s more than reasonable.
YB — Google review
This place is all about keeping it simple and straightforward. If you order pancakes with maple syrup, you’ll get pancakes with maple syrup. If you ask for scrambled eggs with bacon, that’s exactly what you’ll have—no extra garnish or unnecessary decoration. It’s honest food, straight to the point. The atmosphere is really nice, and I also loved that they have a great selection of natural wines for sale. Overall, a very pleasant spot.

This place is a bit off the beaten track and was a recommendation. I am really grateful that I had the chance to experience this little gem. It's a special place not just because of the ambience and atmosphere but also because of the truly amazing food. Food is homemade and very tasty. The menu is written on a chalkboard and you get a great explanation of every dish. With your food you can select from a wide range of wines to accompany your meal. Service is incredibly friendly and prices are more than fair. I will definitely come back and I strongly recommend this place to others. Your taste buds would really miss out on a great experience. My sincere Thanks to the entire team for this very pleasurable moment which was definitely a highlight of my Trieste visit.

La Stella, a delightful gem managed by the dynamic duo Regis and Giuliana Cleva, is nestled within an elegant 19th-century building. This charming restaurant prides itself on its meticulous selection of ingredients and innovative takes on traditional dishes. With a focus on daily specials, guests can savor unique offerings like potato gnocchi with pigeon sauce, Friulian tripe, and tender snails in stew.
I booked this place for bday dinner as I knew from my friend the food was good. It took several weeks to book this restaurant as they work 3 days per week only. The place is big but sittings were outside only on the back of the restaurant The disadvantage is language barrier they don’t speak English at all we were lucky having our Italian friends with. They spoke bit of French. There is no menu. You can choose from the daily menu recited by the owner if you understand. They offer some dishes before appetizers salami, tripes, baked polenta. Overall good restaurant with nice ambient. Not so crazy expensive. We paid 330 euro for 6 people and 2 bottles of wine. Definitely recommend this restaurant. In my opinion the best restaurant in the region so far.

One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Excellent service, a huge selection of wine, extremely friendly staff. A real gem. However, the use of the fire stove was nice for the atmosphere, but it made for an almost unbearable temperature. Apart from that, absolutely perfect! Gran Malabar is a Trieste institution known for its extensive wine selection from Friuli-Venezia Giulia and neighbouring Slovenia. With 600-700 different varieties on offer, the focus is on vintages from these wine-growing regions. The bar has friendly service and refreshing drinks, accompanied by free small snacks. The selection of open wines is highly recommended.
If only we were in Trieste longer so we could sample more of the wine list. A wonderful selection of local and wider Italian wines. Perfect place for aperitivo and extremely good value.

A nice little spot to enjoy a drink. We sat inside, but there was a seating area outside. Our wines were delicious and very reasonably priced. The bar man also gave us a side plate of bread, cheese and prosciutto to pair with your wines. Also a wide variety of wines and other drinks to choose from.

This is a small bar right in the center of the city, on a street that is basically just for taxis and buses: I would be surprise if in this area you will find a parking spot even if you use a moped! We can’t go back to Trieste as much as we’d like, but we do stop here every time we’re there! To order you can go inside, or you can do it through a window on the busy sidewalk. You can enjoy your drink (they offer full bar) inside at the counter (there is no room for tables) or by sitting at one of the few high tables outside: they are a great spot to relax and people watching! They have a great selection of wines, and every drink is accompanied by a few small tapas. The staff is great and prices are decent. I look forward to going back!

Inga B — Google review
It’s a very small bar, but one of my favorite stops in Trieste. Located in Piazza San Giovanni, it is very close to Piazza Goldoni, a main hub for buses and it’s in downtown so easy to walk to from wherever you are in the city. They also have a window you can order wine at (yeah, think Little Havana in Miami, only here you order very good wine instead of empanadas) and some tables outside where you can sit, sip your wine and do a little people watching. Nice place to chill after a long walk in the city; they have very good wines, price are reasonable and they always give you a little complementary food with your glass, a couple of slices of salami or prosciutto or whatever they have. Sometimes when I am back in Trieste, I sit there, outside, enjoy 2 glasses of wine and let memories of my many years spent in my hometown occupy my mind.

On 01/08/2023, I had a pleasant experience at Osteria agli Antenati, a highly acclaimed establishment that deserves all of its five stars. This charming venue offers an excellent selection of traditional Friulian dishes, including the renowned FRICO and other locally sourced delicacies. It is the best restaurant in Italy what i have ever try. Gracie mille.

It is a real osteria that aims - mainly with success - at providing great food and great wines. We enjoyed thoroughly the cjarsons, really excellent. The hare and the chifeletti were really good. The pasta with San Marzano and burrata unfortunately was without salt. The wines were between good and really good. The price absolutely fair. The service was a bit messy but overall friendly. A solid option if you are in the area.
Agostino B — Google review
There are two categories of top-notch restaurants: one that turns cooking into an artistic spectacle with innovative creations and novel food pairings, and another that offers pure, unpretentious cuisine where familiar dishes are cooked to perfection, transforming them into something extraordinary. This exceptional osteria falls into the latter group. It’s a place that celebrates the love of simple, delicious food and provides a genuine taste of Italy’s finest offerings, making the nation truly worthy of its esteemed culinary fame. Here, every dish was meticulously crafted, and the flavours were unlike anything we had experienced before. We fell in love with the rabbit, prepared in a unique and delightful way and the ravioli was simply the best we’ve ever had (not sure if we can eat ravioli again after this because it will always compare badly with this one). Accompanied by delicious wines, lovingly presented by our gracious host, the meal was a complete joy. The staff’s shared passion for good food radiated throughout the restaurant, enhancing our dining experience. The pricing was fair and left us feeling content, unlike the lingering dissatisfaction often found at more mediocre establishments that you unfortunately find too often in this country too. Osteria Agli Antenati stands apart from those places, offering a dining experience that becomes a cherished memory if you truly value great food and wine. Surprisingly the restaurant was not packed during our visit, and seemed slightly short-staffed and so I felt compelled to write this review online, as they truly deserve to be recognized and enjoyed by many more. Our experience at this osteria will be a memory we will savour for years to come!

Chicken restaurant
On May 19, 2021, the restaurant Odio Il Brodo Trieste impressed with its fantastic and perfectly cooked chicken that was never dry. On May 16, 2021, they received praise for their exceptional takeout options which included delicious chicken wings and potato chips. However, a customer mentioned their disappointment with a chicken salad lacking in variety and value for money. Another customer found the ramen to be expensive but acknowledged its freshness and efficient service.
Popped into Odio II Brodo on our trip to Trieste on a whim, the staff were amazing, and the Parmi burger recommended by them from their specials was easily one of the best meals I've had in Trieste and in my top 5 burgers overall, couldn't recommend this place more.

2 Bao and a small glass of beer for 19.5 euro. I’m happy to pay more for great food and service, but sadly, I haven’t seen such things here. First, the table I was sitting at was uncleaned with fried chicken crumbs, I had to clean myself. I haven’t got good service either. An Italian family came later than me got their drinks earlier than me. Moreover, the waitress put food on my table abruptly without saying anything. Cutlery provided on request, and the fork looked dirty, I dared not to use. Food flavour was okay, but the portion is too small compared with the price (8 euro for one). Maybe they provided other good foods, but only Bao was served today.

Best Chicken in North Italy. Sometimes you are just hungry and want to eat something fast. This is not Odio II Brodo! The chicken here is on another level — crispy outside, tender inside, full of flavor. The sides are great too, and the service is quick and very friendly. Pro Tip: if the service offers you some random creation just say Yes and enjoy the awesomeness ;) Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area and craving something satisfying.

Barely edible food, ambient nice looking, very slow and poor service. I ordered some kind of a duck stir-fry that the waiter recimmended and it was way too salty. I only ate it as I was starving and it was raining so we couldn’t leave. The portions are very small and not sized for adults. When I complained about food being horrible salty, they offered a cake, but not complimentwry one nor did they provide any kind of apology when we went to pay. One of the rare places in Trieste that I dont recommend nor would I return.

I was expecting more veggies, some addition, croutons, whatever, but they took it literally :D not really worth 10 or 11 euros, can't remember now. My boyfriend got ramen which had a lot of fatty pieces of bacon or something, for 15 euros. Well. If you've got the money and you're not too fussy then I guess go for it. service is trash, there is one waiter that walks like he needs to go to the toilet reaaal bad. the food is horrible, if i go to a nearby kebab place and eat from the floor it is still going to taste better. i am utterly disappointed. pasta didnt even taste like italian pasta, just plain undercooked macaroni mixed in cheap tasting sauce. anyone at home could make a better pasta. sushi tasted weird too. i asked for sushi sticks and the waiter said ok, i waited for a long time and he still didnt bring them at all, had to eat sushi with bare hands/fork. and i ordered a menu of the day, they didnt bring two dishes from there, had to remind the waiter that im waiting and it took them quite a long time to serve the rest of the food. service is really slow even though it wasnt a lot of people dining. the only good thing about this place was a tyler the creator song.

Has all the ambience, professionalism and mouth-watering fusion food of a high-class restaurant, at a price point I still struggle to believe. If you want an excellent dining experience, going here is just too obvious. You can order either individual dishes (€10-15, completely reasonable sizes) or your choice of two sampling menus (€28-36, a shockingly large variety of only very slightly smaller platters). Two of us shared the bigger menu, and we were in heaven. The ceviche - served on ice - was truly brilliant, the beef was amazingly juicy and tender, the teriyaki salmon was brilliantly rare inside and seared outside, and they were even okay with changing one of the dishes for us when we asked (the menu had a different dessert, but we just had to try the matcha tiramisu). Drinks were also fantastic. We couldn't help but go there again for lunch the next day, and will definitely come again if we're ever in Trieste in the future. Only minus: The music was occasionally very slightly loud, and I am not sure the table booking here on Google works? (But they still seated us with a smile.)

The Savoia Excelsior Palace is a luxurious hotel housed in a magnificent palace dating back to 1911. It offers elegant accommodations, fine dining options, and stunning views of the Trieste Gulf. The hotel's Belle Epoque interiors exude opulence and grandeur, reflecting its history as an accommodation for the Habsburg court and dignitaries.
We had a wonderful stay at the Savoia Excelsior Palace in Trieste. Our room was spacious and elegant, with an incredible view overlooking the sea. The hotel itself is a beautiful grand old-style property, full of charm and character, yet very comfortable. Breakfast was absolutely delicious with plenty of choice, and the location couldn’t be better – right on the seafront and within easy walking distance of the main sights. A truly memorable experience – highly recommended! As an independent travel agent, I would especially recommend asking for a sea-view room to make the most of this stunning hotel.

This is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in in a while and I stay in a lot of hotels. The details/amenities in the room were far superior than many other hotels. It’s also super centrally located in Trieste with a lot of tours picking up right outside. It’s easily walkable to restaurant, the canal and the main square. The staff were all lovely and they have a great lobby bar! Would definitely recommend.

This is a great hotel. It’s luxurious without being pretentious. All of the staff were so kind and friendly and went out of their way to be nice! We had a suite, which was beautiful and comfortable and well thought out regarding layout , in room coffee, comfortable bed and pillows, large closet area, good lighting. It really checked all the boxes! But the staff is what really deserves the 5+ stars. They were genuinely kind and helpful which we really appreciated! Our only negative experience was with the restaurant. The food was okay (but not fantastic) and our server seemed really unhappy to be serving (maybe she was just having a bad day?). There is also not a lot of ambiance to be found in the restaurant (a bit dry and stuffy). But there are great places within a 5 or 10 minute walk so this wasn’t an issue for us (other than we felt like we wasted one dinner opportunity!). Overall, I would love to come back to this hotel and highly recommend it (but skip the restaurant!).

The hotel boasts an exceptional location and combines convenience with a modern, vibrant atmosphere. From the moment we arrived, the staff demonstrated the highest levels of attentiveness and professionalism, ensuring a smooth and welcoming check-in experience. Throughout our stay, they remained consistently accommodating and courteous, anticipating our needs with genuine care. The room was ideally suited to our requirements—immaculately clean, tastefully appointed, and equipped with high-quality bed linens that ensured a restful night’s sleep. Breakfast exceeded expectations, offering a generous and well-prepared selection. Overall, our experience was truly memorable, and we would be delighted to return on a future visit.

We stayed with you the night before we boarded our regents cruise ship. Your concierge dept, Giulio, was very helpful. Arranged car service from the airport and dinner reservations for us. The room was very comfortable and a spectacular location , front and center, with balcony and waterfront views! Breakfast was continental but had everything you could wish for! Great place to stay! Highly recommend!

We had a fabulous stay at the Savior Excelsior Palace. It started at the front door with the bell man. They were incredibly accommodating. Then the front desk was very warm and welcoming, despite our language differences. The concierge gave us wonderful help with the local highlights and dinner suggestions. We ended up going to a locals favorite seafood restaurant and had an amazing dinner. Included Breakfast in the morning was perfect too. But the best part of all was, as we were on a train to Venice, 2hours away, we got a call from the hotel manager, Ricardo, letting us know we left our passports in the safe in our room. He offered to have a taxi drive it to Venice for us. We came to find out the taxi wasn’t willing to do it so Ricardo drove it to Venice himself! 90 minutes away. Talk about being the best and going above and beyond! If you ever have the pleasure to visit Trieste, do yourself a favor and stay at the Savoia Excelsior Palace. You will have no regrets! Thank you SO much Ricardo! You are the best!

Absolutely This hotel is stunning. So comfortable. I felt like I was staying in a castle. Staff very attentive and the rooms and foyers on every floor is beautiful. Love the block out blinds ( grills) if you are cruising the port is right across the road.

Amazing location on the waterfront with nice decor. Rooms are nicely decorated but showing signs of high usage and pet marks, and quite well sound proofed. Breakfast is a bit slow setting up if you arrive at 7am, but a nice selection of foods. Expect to tip for the service experience, otherwise you will be ignored. Valet parking available, but it is about 1km away, so inform in good time when you wish your car to be ready.

What a complete letdown of customer service. I think possibly 15 calls to try and resolve my lost laundry which they admitted they had been given away to another customer in error by their laundry service. They refused to act as a go between, wasted my time again and again. I asked to speak to the manager but apparently because Sonia at the front desk was dealing with it I had to time my calls for when she was in. Still no resolution 12 months on - I bet you were just hoping I would forget. Thanks for the £200 plus of items never to be seen from ever again and it’s just a shame because it’s a lovely hotel, fantastic location, food excellent and normally great service. Stayed here twice and left with a bitter experience.

Big disappointment! A rip-off!! It has the Relais Châteaux recognition but I wonder why. It is outdated, tacky, rather basic and.... charmless. Except the view on the big plazza, the room could be any 3-4 -star- hotel, anywhere in Europe. The entrance/reception is small, dark, not inviting. The last straw was the discovery of the café, and breakfast place. The worst cappuccino ever! Unbelievable. Mediocre taste, presentation, mushy foam (zero cheerful design on top of it). Poor choice of food for breakfast. No spa, no pool, no gym. Corridors neglected, with wires hanging. Nothing, absolutely nothing justifies the price. It is the costliest hotel in town and its standard corresponds merely to a 3 to 4 basic hotel. Kudos to the lady at reception, who managed to change my room at my request, to be on the highest floor. Only good point.

Restaurant
Tavernetta al Molo is a renowned restaurant in Italy known for its delicious food and stunning views. The open-air setting next to the sea provides a peaceful dining experience, especially during these times. The staff is professional, and the portions are generous, offering great value for money. Visitors praise the fresh pasta and seafood dishes, highlighting the homemade pasta and creatively prepared scallops.
I’ve been to this restaurant many times (the first few times in the summer of 2018 before the pandemic, the second batch of visits during the summer of 2021 during the pandemic, and most recently the summer of 2024). I always make sure I come to this restaurant whenever I’m in Trieste; in fact, this restaurant is one of my reasons for returning to Trieste, and I find myself oftentimes thinking about the food at Tavernetta al Molo in the three years between my visits. A few disclaimers: you will see some photos containing sandwiches that are actually food photos from the restaurant next door. This restaurant al Molo does not serve sandwiches, the restaurant next door does. Another disclaimer: this restaurant does not like walk-ins. If you’re a walk-in customer, even if the restaurant is not completely full, they may not take you. This restaurant mainly serves the locals and they have a loyal local customer base, so they do not pander to tourists. If you want authentic Italian homemade style cuisine with superb quality seafood, you should definitely try this place. You might not get a waiter who can even remotely speak English (in fact I’ve never had so much trouble communicating in English with my waiter anywhere else in Trieste, but there you go). The food is definitely worth the language barrier! If you love fresh seafood, you’re gonna love this place. My favorite dishes are: raw mixed marinated seafood (I love this one even more than the best raw seafood mixed appetizer I had in Palermo, Sicily); scallops with pesto pine nuts sauce; warm fish (I think it’s baccala?) salad appetizer; seafood risotto (for 2 people only); octopus carpaccio; zuppe di frutti di mare (seafood soup, this one is so amazingly fresh it’s like drinking the Adriatic). To be fair, their prices in 2024 in perhaps triple their prices in 2018, but I still think this is the best seafood restaurant I found in Trieste and even in Italy outside Sicily. Their cooking style is home style: simple and down to earth, let the ingredients speak for themselves, like how your Italian grandmother/grandfather would make it if they had the freshest ingredients. They have a beautiful terrace right by the pier and you can watch the beautiful Adriatic gently rocking the yachts. This restaurant is about 10-min walk from the beautiful Miramare castle (3-min walk from the castle grounds entrance), which is one of the most beautiful castles in the entire Europe (if you like castles by the sea).

I had the chance to dine here twice during my 2-week stay in Trieste for the ICTP school — once on my very first night, and then again on my last night. Conveniently, the restaurant is located right beside the Adriatico Guesthouse of ICTP, where I stayed, making it an easy and pleasant choice for dinner. On my first night, I ordered the seabass ravioli. The pasta itself was outstanding — clearly handmade, with excellent texture and craftsmanship. The seabass filling, while decent, could have been more flavorful, but overall it was still enjoyable and fair for the price. On my last night, I tried the pappardelle with prawns. Once again, the pasta was superbly made, but this dish stood out even more. The sauce was rich and balanced, the prawns were fresh and well-cooked, and the flavors came together beautifully. I can honestly say it was one of the best dishes I had in Trieste. The portion sizes were just right — satisfying without being overwhelming — and the pairing with a glass of white wine made the experience even better. Overall, this restaurant delivered consistent quality pasta and left me with a very good impression. A wonderful way to bookend my stay in Trieste, and the perfect dining option if you are staying at ICTP’s Adriatico Guesthouse.

Delicious food and excellent service with a beautiful view of the water! This family owned spot is a must do if you’re planning to visit Miramare. The pasta with prawns was delicious and so fresh, and the house wine paired with it perfectly. Highly recommend!

This is one of these places where I don’t know if I want to write a review because the experience was so lovely I don’t want it to be overrun and ruined. What a location; right by the sea. Delicious fresh sea food. Order the house wine. Casual, low key, excellent. And - lovely people working there who went out of their way for us and ran to the boat dock to find out when the next ferry would go. Thank you. This was my birthday lunch and they made it special without knowing. All in a day’s work.

This used to be a good restaurant but it has clearly succumbed to becoming a “tourist trap”. The location is really nice and the people who work there are lovely, but the food is overpriced and mediocre at best, flavourless and bland. The mussels and clams tasted like they were boiled as opposed to sautéed with aromatics and wine, the fried mix was largely composed of little fish and barely anything else. Overpriced drinks too. We were really disappointed as we’ve come here a few times over the years and it used to be better. Pity to see another restaurant fall like this.
Martina — Google review
Not welcoming when your are not Italian (or at least, when you don’t speak Italian). Tables outside will be exclusively given to Italian speakers, you wait to place your order for the grace of a waiter. Food is average, not worth visiting for. Prices are on the higher side, but still ok-ish.

Nestled halfway up the hill towards the historic Castello di San Giusto, Osteria di mare alla Voliga is a charming gem in Trieste's Old City. This cozy eatery boasts a delightful nautical theme, with whitewashed wooden walls adorned with maritime decor that sets a relaxed atmosphere for diners. Specializing in simply prepared seafood, it offers an array of fresh catches like bluefish, sardines, mackerel, mussels, and squid.
AMAZING seafood with simple presentation. It’s not fancy, it’s just simply DELICIOUS, intense flavors. Fairly priced, way less expensive and much better quality/ flavours, etc… than the Croatian kitchen. Just allow the host to order for you. Everything we had was delicious and top quality. You can taste the freshness and truly homemade style of the food. Would recommend to anyone who wants great food in an unpretentious setting.

Lovely seafood restaurant. Great value as well. Very friendly host. We went with his recommendations and weren't dissappointed. We had mixed seafood starter, followed by their famous Seafood soup, and a large Sea Bream to share. All excellent, as was the local white wine. Just be aware, you don't get vegetables. All dishes come with Polenta, cooked in different ways with each course. Its quite small inside, about 20 tables only. So essential to make a reservation. Its a bit out of the way, so expect to build up a good appetite if you walk there as we did. Well worth a visit if you can get in.

Restaurant Review: Rueda Gaucha I had the pleasure of dining at Rueda Gaucha last night, and it was an outstanding experience. The food was excellent, the service was top-notch, and the ambiance was beautiful. We started with a mixed platter of meats, featuring prosciutto and lardo from Mangalica. This appetizer was fantastic, but the highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the Fiorentina steak. It was perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and truly impressive. A single baked potato wrapped in foil was the perfect side dish, providing just the right amount of accompaniment. Additionally, the offering of various pestos and salts in small dishes alongside the steak was a winning touch, allowing us to enhance each bite to our liking. Overall, Rueda Gaucha exceeded our expectations in every way. Excellent food, great service, and a lovely atmosphere make this a restaurant we will definitely return to. Highly recommended!

Worst steakhouse experience I’ve ever had. The food was overpriced for the quality. My beef ribs had more fat than meat, and no side dishes were included. We were told all outside tables were fully booked, so we had to sit inside—right next to the coal grill oven. It was uncomfortably hot, and after 1.5 hours inside, we left smelling strongly of smoke. To make it worse, we could see that outside tables were free the entire time. This is not a child-friendly restaurant. There is no baby chair, no toys, and the staff were not friendly toward kids. Overall, an extremely disappointing experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

La comida es muy buena! Lamentablemente El Servicio es malo la atención muy desinteresada y los meseros no son agradables hacen de este hermoso restaurante un ambiente muy feo…I understand that restaurants can be busy, and the staff may face challenges, but that doesn’t justify the level of mistreatment and lack of interest I experienced in your establishment. As a customer, I expect to receive quality service and be treated with courtesy and respect. Unfortunately, my experience at your restaurant fell far short of meeting these expectations.
Julia M — Google review
In Short: Rude and arrogant staff, poor quality food, and an atmosphere that makes you wonder why you didn’t just stay home. Full Review: We were two adults and two kids (one only 2 years old) spending a week in Lignano. Every night, we tried a new restaurant, happily paying €120–150 for the family. This was the only place where I left thinking, “Well, that was money I’ll never see again.” Staff: Unfriendly and arrogant from the moment we arrived. If you doubt it, just read the manager’s replies to negative Google reviews — they’re a masterclass in how not to handle feedback. Main Dishes: • Filetto di Manzo: Asked for medium. Got something so raw it could have walked off the plate. • Asado: Five ribs. One was 100% fat and bone the rest were better but still a lot of fat and bone. Yes, a little fat is tasty. A lot of fat is just… well, fat. No side dish even a potato with Asado. • Galletto Selvaggio: Half a chicken split in two and presented in the same glamorous style you’d expect at a roadside grill shack. Side Dishes: Salad and vegetables were fine. The French fries? McDonald’s could have done better. For Kids: No baby chairs. No tolerance for children. The unspoken rule here seems to be: Eat quickly, leave quickly. Atmosphere: Dark, hot, and smoky inside. We left smelling like we’d spent the evening in a campfire — only without the fun part. Summary: In my opinion bad food, worse attitude, and no hint of hospitality. My advice to the manager: try eating at Corse du Sud or Atmosphera. You might discover how good food and good manners can actually exist in the same place — sometimes even for less money

Al Tiglio cucina naturale / Ristorante Veg is a top-notch restaurant with an elegant ambiance and exceptional food. BEST VEGAN RESTAURANT WE HAVE EVER BEEN TO! This place is 10/10 - book a table immediately! We have decided we will be coming here at least once a month, more if we can manage! (We are an hour away). My husband and I found this excellent restaurant at the last minute one afternoon. We dropped in and asked if we needed a reservation. They were fully booked, but were able to seat us early (7:15). Food: we had the tasting menu with 1 substitution...my husband wanted to try the lasagna. The entire tasting menu was a 10+. The lasagna was a bit dry and needed more sauce to taste like lasagna, so we gave it a 5. Overall though, this restaurant is truly a 10. You just cannot go wrong with ambiance, food or drink choices. We will return in a heartbeat. Memorable evening!

A hidden gem. We were on our way back to Austria from Italy and on this drive there is unfortunately little options for vegans to eat. My wife found the restaurant on google and we couldn’t believe it there was an all vegan restaurant in a small Italian town. The staff was very friendly and accommodating even though we don’t speak any Italian. The restaurant itself is not only nicely designed but it sits on the top of a mountain and if you eat on the terrace you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the surrounding country side. The food itself if very thoughtful in taste and arrangement. We ordered brunch plates and were able to sample many of the offerings available. While all of the ingredients were simple (rice, lentils, pumpkin, hummus, tofu) they were all put together and arranged as to highlight the natural flavors of each item. I was delighted with the flavor pairings and creative way they were assembled. Everything aired on the side of healthy. No fried food, no heavy sauces and even the desserts did not contain much sugar. I’m very appreciative to have found an all vegan place on our trip. Update 2021: We came here again exactly a year later and it was just as good as the first time. Super good starters and mains, friendly service and a nice view. We will continue to come back anytime we are in the area. Danke!

Offering a variety of beef dishes, Bracerie Venete is an excellent choice for meat lovers visiting Trieste. The front of house staff are incredibly friendly and speak English well, making it easy to communicate with them. The food was delicious - the steak was cooked perfectly and the carpaccio was great. This restaurant is highly recommended!
Lovely atmosphere, outstanding service, and food was both delicious and beautifully presented. Only negative thing I can come up with is that the wine recommendations were a bit off for my taste at least, but wine selection looks great. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys meat focused fine dining! And for me, I'm definitely coming back for more!

I was invited for my birthday to this restaurant. I had so nice experience. They were so attentional and they offered a lot of things by the house. The food was really good and the evening well spent. The desert, on the other hand, was not as much as I expected but the overall dinner was delicious.

I came here for dinner on my birthday with my friends. The entire staff was absolutely fantastic, very observant and very kind, we were absolutely impressed with what an amazing service they provided. The food was absolutely exquisite. Every single thing we ordered was absolutely delicious and the recommended wine was very very good. I cannot praise enough this place that made such a wonderful experience for me.

I had this anniversary dinner and i tried to choose a fancy place in Trieste And bracerie venete is one of them I would have given very easily 5/5 but unfortunately i cant do that. I was disappointed at the meat, i was given recommendations and i was specific about grassfed beef and not fatty cut And i got a fatty cut where there a little to much fat on my opinion, maybe a misunderstanding with the waiter but i tried to tell him in 3 occasions that i dont want a fatty cut. The atmosphere of the place is very nice, a very distinguished restaurant. The staff overall is very well behaved. But ofc i have to judge based on the meat And the meat for my and for my request was a disappointment since i had to pay a good amount of money But my unlucky experience doesnt mean it is a bad restaurant Is a very good one Pricy but ofc not all restaurant are supposed to be for everyone

Great ! Fantastic Steak with people who know what they are talking about. Let them guide you and you will have a great dinner experience ! Very rarely you get this quality for a still reasonable price ! We will come again when in Triest.

Very rude. To confirm this is my review of Bracerie Venete Restaurant in Trieste, unfortunately my real experience of this place. Edited in response to the owner: You're correct, we didn't dine here. Your staff's staggering rudeness at the door made sure of that. Your condescending reply, however, has perfectly confirmed my initial assessment of your establishment's arrogant atmosphere. Thanks for proving my point. We happily spent our money elsewhere.

Delightful restaurant. The staff were immediately welcoming and obviously took pleasure in presenting beautiful food and good wine. The atmosphere is well created, quiet acoustic and low level volume music. This was a great evening

I had an excellent meal here! The steak was perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor — truly one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The house wine was also a pleasant surprise, very smooth and a great pairing with the meal. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service made the evening even better. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quality dining experience.

Consistently friendly service, gastronomically and esthetically pleasing experience. All good and desserts prepared from scratch. Everything exquisitely executed with detail and love - from the decor to the last morsel of dessert.

Service was exceptional, beer was cold, and we couldn't help but get a sausage sandwich which the bread was fresh and the sausage was well seasoned. Love seeing the help dressed Alpin style! We'll be back!

Like to stop by for ice cream with wild fruits. Recommend to see their offer inside on shelf, you will be stunned with so much interesting things to eat. You need to ask for English waiters, they don't know German (at least I noticed that from being there few times) - one star less for the service.

Antica Aquileia ristorante pizzeria is a delightful dining destination that promises an exceptional culinary experience. Guests rave about the delicious pizzas, particularly the unique ten-grain pizza and the standout pistachio pizza, which has quickly become a local favorite. The menu also features fresh seafood options like tender calamari and mussels, alongside refreshing dishes such as caprese salad. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with attentive service from friendly staff who go above and beyond to ensure a memorable visit.
The service was great, the waiter however new did a very good job. I ordered a bottle of wine and even the chef came out and was praising the ordered bottle of wine. Very sweet overall and the food was DELICIOUS i never had pasta THIS good! I can definetly recommend this restaurant and will visit when i am in the area again!

Everything perfect. From the very first moment we felt welcomed in the restaurant, the owner was very kind and recommended us great dishes. We had fried calamari, mussels and caprese salad. Everything was fresh, soft and delicious. Two desserts (tiramisu and pistachio tiramisu) were a part of the great finish of the lunch we had. Highly recommended place!

I would not recommend this place to non Italian, the staff are rude and very stubborn, they don't like foreigners like me, there was in particular a female waitress, which could be even part of the business owners circle. I went there to sit down and have dinner, in the end I just left with a pizza to take away, but I so unless you are German, Austrian, American white, Italian don't even think of getting a table, they will put you aside and wait for a table despite there empty tables. The worse in all this situation when I went and asked why are we waiting that long to get a table at 9 pm a week day with half of the restaurant empty, the lady on the picture said that they are reserved, for one hour we could have ordered ate and on our way. Shame on you Again you dare and comment, I don't want to try your food because of the luck of hospitality of your staff, after all I am not a beggar, I can afford your food, but in a restaurant the staff can make the food taste better by not being racis*t, I still think you should train your staff to be nice and put aside the arrogance, lastly as you mentioned there plenty other beautiful restaurant in Aquileia and I thank god for that
Reda Y — Google review
For me, the pizza pistacchio here is the new benchmark in interpretation and taste, and has replaced my previous number one in Trieste (Di Napoli). Perfect! The atmosphere is cozy, but due to its size, it can get a bit noisy at times. Highly recommended, reservations necessary, as it's very popular with locals.

we stumbled into Antica Aquileia with dreams of devouring divine Italian pizza. Instead, what we got was the equivalent of a wet cardboard box. The pizzas tasted like someone had photocopied a picture of a pizza and then sprinkled sadness on top. Cutting the pizza was like cutting a wet condom. The dough had less soul than a calculator. But the true masterpiece of disappointment was the bill. Prices on the menu seemed like an innocent lie—until the final check came with a random, majestic +20 euros slapped on as if Zeus himself demanded a tribute. If I ever crave the sensation of being tricked while chewing on boredom incarnate, maybe I’ll return. But honestly, I’d rather gnaw on an old shoebox dipped in tomato paste than give Antica Aquileia another cent.

Great place to try the historical cuisine of Trieste spanning from regional Italian dishes to Slovenian and Austrian classics. Great food overall, certainly recommended, also great desserts. Great service, the host is friendly and knows quite a bit. Great wines (but not available by glass, just small bottle). Not inexpensive but certainly worth every cent.

Diego was so helpful and clearly passionate about the food that they serve. wine by the bottle but reasonably priced and I tried two craft beers one IPA which was fruity and delicious and one American lager both sensibly priced. We had beer ham with horseradish as a starter, which was fantastic and then main courses were goulash with potatoes, and dumplings with Gorgonzola cream And walnuts. We went early around 7.30pm so was quiet but was filling up as we left after 9 £80 euros all in. With a pudding to share!! Not bad!!

Trattoria Mara is a family-owned restaurant in Trieste that offers a homely atmosphere and traditional Friulian recipes. The menu features typical dishes from the region, including cjalsons, Friulian frika, potato dumplings with goulash, polenta, pasta, soups, and homemade desserts. The restaurant is known for its informal yet fantastic food served in a friendly and fun environment. It's advisable to make reservations due to its popularity.
Nice local place, with friendly service and good food. We had discovered the dish ‘gnocchi di pane’ 2 nights ago, in a different restaurant and felt like having it again and searched for a restaurant that had that on the menu and we found that in ‘Mara’. The goulash, which came with the gnocchi, was better than in the other restaurant, but we liked the gnocchi itself, more the first time 😉 Because we had a big lunch, we shared the dish, with some vegetables on the side. Those were very overcooked. As dessert we shared a chocolate lava cake, that was very nice. I missed some music, for some extra atmosphere. And again, like we experienced in the afternoon too, somewhere else, they had a hole in the ground as a toilet, really oldskool, not really convenient for elderly guests. Overall a nice place worth going too for the traditional food.

I definitely recommend this spot if you're looking to enjoy some authentic local cuisine while visiting Trieste. Thanks Mara!

On July 25, I ran into this place after reviewing options through google maps. I went in alone and the welcoming and service from each one of the people hosting the place was the best I have had in years. It felt familiar and welcoming in a very authentic way. Food was great, the place has a very unique charm that I cannot describe, but might have been biased by the people managing the place. On top of that, the same night I made a new friend, and I also saw the most beautiful eyes in another table where she was with her family and I did not dare to interrupt, but still added magic to the night

We ordered Jota, Frittata ale erbe, Gnocchi with meat sauce, Frico cheese, one liter of white house wine, Torta alla crema, Tiramisu, Tortino al chocolate and Strudel di mele. Everything was very delicious. ( My favorite was Frittata, Frico, Tiramisu and Tortino). Wine was surprisingly good and very easy to drink.

Bring an appetite - this warm and friendly "down home cooking" place was exactly what we needed after our wine tasting. Excellent meats, delicious cheeses and fire grilled veggies that kept us more than happy. These are the type of places that the real Italy is all about, so if you are in the country-side and want to experience something more authentic than the tourist traps, then start with the place and just keep exploring. The best Prosciutto I've ever had! All the pickled vegetables, salad and selection of cheeses were great. The lard is also a must do! The menu had a vast wine selection and the outside terrace seating area had a good atmosphere. The service was the only thing that was missing. Started off great with a lovely waitress then after the food arrived we were ignored and the clearing of our plates was awkward. The other waitress was pretty much snatching them off our table without a smile and really brought the dining experience down. I hope this improves for future customers as your food is delicious!

Tasting San Daniele's Prosciutto here is one of the best experiences about Italian signature food. Prosciutto is perfectly as it has to be: sweet, light, thin ... and it is going to melt in your mouth... You can also taste 'lardo', some cheeses, and other side dishes perfect with Prosciutto. Place is always busy. We had lunch. You can park just in front of the restaurant: usually during lunch time and dinner time you can park for free. There is an excellent wine list by glass or by bottle. You can also taste some great desserts...but, definitely, you can't miss this fantastic Prosciutto.

I booked a table for our wedding anniversary at this restaurant, which was recommended by a friend who lives nearby. I liked the vibe and the food, but the service was just okay—especially because a bug flew into my glass of wine. My husband asked them to change it, and we assumed they wouldn’t charge us, but in the end, they did. We also overheard that they gave complimentary food to another table for no apparent reason. This made us feel discriminated against.
Christina C — Google review
I have rated the restaurant with four stars for many obvious reasons: location, environment, professional service, quality of the dishes and very adequate prices. Among everything we asked for, what we liked the most was the meat, the pork was very crispy and tasty, it was a very successful idea to accompany it with the lampone cream... but it is true that in general the quantities are too small... I know that this is how it is eaten in restaurants of a certain level but by putting a little more in each dish, I do not think that the quality of the dish or its aesthetics would change at all. Portions are on the small end but flavours are spot on... Anyway, Fantastic place.

Our party of 3 had a nice meal. We arrived at lunchtime on a weekday, and were greeted and seated immediately. Though the restaurant wasn't busy, it felt awkward. We were waited on by multiple people, which was clumsy, inefficient, and pretentious. Though everyone was polite, a lack of streamline took away from the experience and didn't feel natural. Also, I don't recommend the chocolate sampling desert as it was underwhelming. All in all, it was a good experience but could have been a great experience with a little tweaking. I will also admit that the ambience is very charming and rustic.

The staff were very kind and attentive to the various requests (we were a group of about ten people and we spoke with one of the owners in the days before our arrival to organize ourselves). Really good dishes, both as regards the first courses, the second courses and the side dishes and all more than abundant. Really wide choice on the menu; some of the proposals I remember were: tagliatelle with roe deer/duck, multiple versions of lasagna, shin, pork cheeks, goulash, meatballs. The final desserts and liqueurs are also excellent. Everything that wasn't finished, given the large portions, was put in a convenient little box to take home. Note of color: the presence, only at the end of the evening when we were last of four beautiful Maremma people. (Original) Trattoria a gestione familiare dall'ambiente rustico e confortevole. (Translated by Google) I was looking for a place to taste a Wiener Schnitzel and, driven by the excellent positive reviews, I wanted to try this place: I found myself in a family-run restaurant where I felt pampered and where I ate one of the best and sized cutlets in my life. remarkable (see and judge for yourself from the photo), and also, as animal lovers, after dinner we made a pleasant discovery: in a separate annex we met some beautiful four-legged friends that the owners look after and raise with dedication and love, this aspect does not other than confirming their wonderful family and the type of people they are ❤️I've been back several times and will do so again, highly recommended place! 🤩☺️

A little piece of Sardinia in Udine! The place is very small, but warm and cozy . Service is very nice, well-disposed and friendly. The food is superb: menu changes daily according to the unique and fresh ingredients, dishes are elaborate but representative of the true Sardinian spirit. Absolutely recommended

As an Italian food lover, going to Italy for many years and also to Sardegna, I was quite dissapointed by the food and the service in this restaurant. The taste I got was mostly salty and not a hint of all the other tastes in the spectrum. Also the service wasn't really welcoming and helpfull. Maybe we caught them on a bad day or the translation barrier didn't help, I don't know. But when you have eaten so many nice meals in Italy, we almost forgot you can be dissapointed sometimes.

Small place sharing unique experience. We took a lunch there on Sat just before Pasqua. Our confidence in understanding Italian menus was swiftly shattered by menu of which we could hardly catch a hint what they are serving here... But, this place has not only the family touch but also the care. So we were carefully presented with all Sardegna pasta types they are serving and in depth explanation what's on menu. We sampled from each course and were really exited: foam like goat cheese as a starter was a kick off to other planet tasting spectrum. Home made pasta with fish ragú (in green color sauce...) definitely took us by surprise. Octopus carpaccio served on sedano based salad was so fresh and so unexpectedly flavored. As a desert we had cheese (salty taste) fried in pancake like batter, served with Sardena honey coat... All unexpected, mouthwatering, ingenious and very refreshing. Plus it comes with Sardegna wines and caffe :) I have to say that La Nicchia will be one of the main reasons to come back to Udine again.

This is a great osteria. The owners speak seweral languages (Italian, Calabrese, English and Deutch), but the food speak for themseves. Magnifico! Spero, che torneremo prima di Ferragosto.

Great service and good food. Great selection of local and foreign beers. Nice patio that has heating for the winter. Edit 3 years later: They have narrowed down and solidified their menu. The food is very tasty, and the service continues to be top notch.
