Café Simon is a stylish and bright café located in Passau, offering a welcoming atmosphere to enjoy a rich selection of homemade chocolates, fine hot chocolate, and breakfast options. Visitors can indulge in coffee and cake, have a leisurely breakfast, or experience a relaxed brunch. The café provides ample seating, making it an ideal place for meeting up with friends or studying while enjoying complimentary Wi-Fi.
We had 5 different things, and each where stand alone great. Ask them to warm the strudel. Whole other level of good.

Recently, I popped into this café in Passau with my mother, who had her heart set on trying their tantalizingly delicious-looking plum cake. Being the dutiful son, I obliged, and mom confirmed the cake was nothing short of top-notch—truly a pastry chef’s masterpiece. Now, you might wonder why this isn’t a full five-star shout-out. Well, as a coffee aficionado, I found myself slightly let down by my double espresso, which was on the weaker side and lacked the robust crema I was anticipating. It just didn’t live up to the hype. Despite the coffee hiccup, this café is a gem with an impressive array of cakes and chocolates that are worth stopping by for if you find yourself in Passau. It’s a must-visit for a sweet treat, just maybe pair it with something other than the espresso!
Sven O — Google review
The cafe was recommended by our tour guide, I can see why. There's an amazing array of sweet treats to temp you. A lovely atmosphere as well. The rhubarb tart slice is big enough for 2 people, tasted amazing 😍
Dianne B — Google review
We had such a nice afternoon accompanied by coffee and some sweets. The waiter was excellent, we had the menu in English and the portions are BIG! Definitely try the crapes when you go there you'll be impressed. 😍 Everything seemed freshly baked and the coffee was really good, 100% worth it!
But. S — Google review
Beautiful little cafe with lovely treats. One piece of apple strudel would be plenty for two people but we each bought a piece anyway. Delicious. Lovely and friendly staff as well.
Leah P — Google review
Seat at the terrace nice place but on top of a construction so not very nice. Salad was swimming in dressing the bottom of the plate was a soup. Toast was ok not more. Cakes look great bit disappointing.

Cafe
Café Stephan's Cathedral is a charming spot adorned in pink, offering a magical setting for enjoying tea or coffee along with freshly baked pastries, cakes, and strudels. Nestled on the historic grounds of St. Stephen's Church, this café exudes an ambiance reminiscent of Barbie's Dreamhouse. Visitors can savor legendary homemade pralines and gingerbread from Greindl Passau while taking in the picturesque view of the cathedral.
Saturday was market day in front of the beautiful Cathedral and we peeked inside thinking that the prices would rule us out (because of how beautiful it is inside) but we were pleasantly surprised. So we came back for dessert a few hours later and totally enjoyed the ambiance, friendly service, great cake (poppy seed …yum yum!), coffee and beer ! Highly recommend.
Paul D — Google review
Nice atmosphere, indoor & outdoor terrace seating, front terrace has outdoor seating for handicap, toilets located outside front seating area thru unmarked brown door, but several 1 & 2 steps involved, no ramps. Inside is ornate, plenty of seating, a large outdoor patio is accessed from the main inside area, surrounded by the church towers on one side, and can see Mariahilf on the right over the rooftops. Staff were friendly, Coffee was very good, must be clear on your order, they call coffees by different names than USA. The pastries and cakes looked fabulous. Staff spoke English well enough.
Dark S — Google review
Amazing place!!! Relaxing atmosphere nice coffee and cakes. Kindly staff Highly Recommended 👌

I love the chocolate cappuccino and apple strudel! The cafe is famous for their hot chocolate and that alone can be filling. Nice stop to be at from touring the beautiful Passau.

Awsome place to drink tea and eat a delicious piece of cake. The waitress was very nice and came with our order quickly. I recommend to sit outside, find a place on the terrace (if the weather allows it) and enjoy the view of the Dom!
Valentina F — Google review
Bizarre experience. Very slow. Extremely unwilling to try to understand us even when we pointed at exactly what we wanted. I kind of suspect their misunderstandings were intentional. Brought the wrong pastries, but fixing it was clearly not happening. Tried to enjoy what we got, but frankly, it was not very good. Interior is nice at least?

Wish I could give -10 for the service! We visited this place on Halloween night for dinner based on a local friend' recommendation. It was crowded and service was worse. The beer had a fly floating in it and thankfully we noticed it before drinking. Showed this waitress and waited forever to get a replacement. We were three, though the order was noted properly, it was forgotten and messed up. One of the drinks was initially forgotten, we had to ask and wait again. While Kräuter Tee was ordered, they served green tea. Informed this and waited again. One of us received the food promptly, the other 2 waited for 30 minutes for food and the waiters. Finally we caught hold of one passed by us and informed that we haven't received the food yet. She went and came with a embarrassed face. Apparently it was forgotten; she apologized and asked if we are ok to accept a free Espresso for this mistake. We said we will decide later, after the food - didn't know how long it will take for Espresso to arrive and we dint want to spend the entire night waiting at this place! The waitress informed the owner and the lady with him, they never bothered to come and talk to us or anything. Even more colder behaviour! When the food finally came, it was clear that they just managed to serve it with whatever was available by then. Another 15-20mins of waiting to pay the bill! Too bad experience for a Halloween night. They couldn't handle the crowd. They don't give a damn about customer service. Better to avoid this place.
Gayathri T — Google review
All dishes and beer were delicious. Prices were reasonable.
Fatemeh M — Google review
Good place if you can wait 1.5hr for your cheese Sandwich. And at the end she brought it and didn't even apologise. Thanks for ruining my day. Really disappointed
Mahmoud F — Google review
Waited ten minutes to order drinks, then another twenty to get the drinks which were warm by that point. Got another round for some reason and had the same issue. Then had to wait twenty minutes to pay after asking for the check. It looked like it wasn't due to staff shortage or busyness because I could see the waitresses talking amongst each other and standing around. Nice place otherwise but the wait service was so bad I'll never be back.

One of the best brunch spots in Passau! The staff are very friendly, the dishes are nicely presented and delicious! We tried both savory and sweet dishes and they were really good. The view to the river is great!

Delicious food, great service, stunning views. The yummy jams are all home-made, as is their bread. The waitress was genuinely friendly and cheerful. Don't be put off by the entrance which looks like a cocktail bar. Also important: The toilets are new and very clean. Top marks!

We stopped here for a quick lunch during a long drive and we were impressed by the excellent food - the schnitzel was particularly good but we would also recommend the goats cheese gnocchi. The views are great and the staff were very attentive.

Nestled in the picturesque Residenzplatz of Passau, Café & Tagesbar Minoo is a delightful gem that captivates visitors with its unique charm. Run by Dena, originally from Iran, and Gerald, a local from Passau, this café boasts an interior that could easily grace the pages of a premium design magazine. The inviting atmosphere makes it an ideal spot to savor coffee and cake or choose from a diverse menu featuring healthy vegetarian options.
The space is charming and hygge, with several window-side tables overlooking a central square. The staff are young and welcoming. It's clearly popular among tourists
Mai N — Google review
We accidentally found this cool cafe on a Saturday morning while wandering around town. It was super popular with several different indoor spaces, and also a large seating area on the big square across the road. Lovely bustling atmosphere with a very young crowd (this is a university town) but it’s a nice vibe to enjoy the quirky / cool decor and enjoy the lovely coffee and cakes. Large, interesting and varied menu with something for everyone. All the food that was coming out looked amazing (especially the breakfast-for-2 which comes on a 3-tier cake stand!) unfortunately we had already had our included breakfast at the hotel … so we will definitely need to come back here when in Passau again!
Gustav — Google review
Young, friendly staff and we had a wonderful seat at the street where we could see the square. We had a cappuccino & pizza and they were delicious! An enjoyable lunch for sure.
Eeco R — Google review
This is a really good Café with a rustic feel. I loved everything about the place: the decor, the coffee, tea, some really good banana bread and lovely rustic plates n cups. Don't miss this place if you are in Passau.
Shaon J — Google review
The location is central (just behind the dome), the interior (design and furniture) and the atmosphere (quiet and pleasant music plays in the background) is pretty good. Attractive for classy people. The staff is friendly, but on a busy day (like when I was there), they need a bit more waiters/waitresses (that's why the 4 stars) to not to keep the customers wait more than 5-10 minutes. It has big windows facing the street, which makes it really bright (huge plus!). The menu is quite ok, there's breakfast and lunch options, and all other things you'd find in a cafè. As it is central located, parking close to the place might be difficult. I will go here from time to time.
Peter — Google review
Great snacks, pastries and drinks. Service was great (although she was the only one). We definitely come back!

I loved Cafe Minoo. I found it by accident as I was walking through the charming cobbled streets of Passau. The ladies were very lovely, very friendly and helpful. Someone has invested allot of love and care into Cafe Minoo in the food, cakes, beverages, teas and coffee and also into the cosy quirky decoration of the cafe. I loved it here. I could of stayed much much longer enjoying the cakes and coffees and letting the day pass away. They also have free wifi for guests. I loved it and I highly recommend in trying it out. Probably one of the best cafes I have ever been to. Loved it. Thank you Cafe Minoo.

Best coffee in Passau, but you need to cross over the bridge to the other side to discover this lovely Cafè discretely located on a quiet square. Lots of outdoor seating and also indoor seating available, and free fast WiFi. They serve breakfast & lunch, a selection of cakes - delicious cakes! And, the coffee is really excellent.
Gustav — Google review
A nice place to grab a coffee. The staff were nice and the coffee was a little bitter for an espresso, but overall good. The atmosphere and prices were nice too.
Radoslav M — Google review
very, very good flat white and iced latte! the best during our vacation (incl. many placed in Italy, Innsbruck and Salzburg)
Martin B — Google review
The flat White is good ,the place is nice, the toilet is always super cold. If you took a bier they can bring you some snacks but just if you specifically ask for it . Once I took a flat White to take away and the owner probably asked me for Extra money if I wanted a tap on it. I payed more then 7 euros...
Giulia B — Google review
Good caffee is served, plus they have a reasonable selection of gins and tonics (huge plus for me). It's located just by a small square, so during the summer there are chairs, tables and benches outside, so it's pretty good to chill there with friends. The only downside is that the place itself is tiny: during the winter indoors can get easily crowded. Definitely worth having here a drink or two.
Peter — Google review
Best shop in Passau for specialty, third wave coffee ☕️
Bron C — Google review
I have been here a few times. I always love the coffee, however I have gotten mixed responses from customer service. It all depends who is at the front desk. There is a guy that is usually very rude and feels very entitled to open his mouth and criticize everyone, even after he has asked for tip and you have given it to him. Try to ignore him and your experience will go well. Prices a bit high, coffee is served just at the right temperature but I would not consider it a place to work while having some coffee since it is very small.

Food was reasonable, but could have used a bit more spice. All the lunch items were vegetarian and reasonably priced. Great views on the patio and the restaurant has an interesting history. It used to be the toll House for the bridge. Great place to enjoy a drink or two, people watch and relax.
Chris C — Google review
The place is nice, right on the banks of the river. However, it's a bit outdated in regard to the menu, I think. I've asked for a café frapé and the guy looked at me like I was from outer space. He didn't even know what exactly that was. I've explained and said that the best he could do was ice coffee. I thanked him and settled for a cappuccino. The cappuccino was right as it should be, can't complain about that.

Orders always arrive late, though it has been acceptable so far thanks to the nice view; but nowadays you can apparently also hear a "was denn?!" from the employees if you ask a question (was not towards me luckily but it was super disturbing, and I also had my share from the impoliteness in a way). I really hope it gets better. Edit: Thanks a lot for your kind response, I'm happy to hear about the new ordering system and will visit again soon!

An excellent place to eat at in Passau. The portions for me are a bit too small but i didnt mind that because the food tastes amazing! The staff is really friendly and they have a wide variety of dishes. The coffee is excellent and their pastries are delicious. If you have a chance try some if the dishes they offer!
Nermin M — Google review
Because of the stylish interior, I decided to come here for a coffee and a roll. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed when it came to the food. My "Heidi" roll for just under ten euros was absolutely overpriced for the quality it delivered. A normal roll, the chicken was fibrous, not much bacon and the sauce was rather average. Far from a taste experience. The coffee was also not convincing in taste. Service was okay but nothing special. Unfortunately, a wannabe hip shop that doesn't deliver what is expected at all. Definitely overpriced. What a shame!
Sven O — Google review
So many excellent options for lunch, hard to choose! Dishes look really nice and there is something for all tastes and from different cuisines. Vegan, veggy and a few meat options. Fresh salad and a lot of it in a bowl or on your plate. Next to the fountains and a park, with a terras to sit and eat. Juices and lemonade are mostly eco and no coca cola, but the better and healthier stuff. It's not cheap, but worth each euro! We had lunch here at the eighteenth birthday of our oldest daughter and it was a pleasure for all, young and old present.

Hands down, this is one of the best places to eat in Passau. Especially if you are near the university. My wife and I ate lunch here almost every day while we were teaching at the university this summer, and we are so glad we followed another faculty member's advice to check this place out. The staff is super friendly, the service is great, and the food ist total lecker! They have a wide variety of dishes, some of which are vegan or vegetarian friendly (and are clearly noted on their menu). Rotating soups and specials are also a nice touch. The coffee is great, and their pastries are also really good. Cannot wait to be back in Passau and to enjoy some more of this wonderful establishment.

Das Hornsteiner Pension und Café am Dom is a charming and unpretentious hotel located in the historic city of Passau. The hotel offers unique rooms, some with kitchenettes, and a laid-back atmosphere. Guests can enjoy the cozy café and sauna facilities during their stay. The building dates back to the 17th century, adding to its historical charm. While some guests found the rooms small but lovely, others appreciated the fully equipped kitchenettes and unique design of the accommodations.
Visited the buffet, beautiful small atmosphere, with stylish vintage furniture, and very nice not so very sweet cakes and pies, all in all, perfect place to have a coffee in Passau

A very pleasant experience, as the hotel and the rooms are in an old rural style. Beautifully white washed walls and the doorways have a bow shaped top. Everything works and the matress is great. Sturdy yet comfy. Windows facing the Danube have great river view. Windows facing the street have pitoresque classic style architectured street view. Windows of other buildings nearby take some of the privacy but there are cutains and they are all thick beige.. nothing too dark, nor transparent. Everything is tidy and clean. Staff is helpful. People mention the bell chiming as bothering but we thought it added to our holiday charm. At least from suite 5 they sound quite distant and soothing. The floors squeek but that didnt bother us roo much if you consider its dimue to an authentic old building and the rooms look so romantic, light, and charming, yet modrn kitchen, bath, wc, as well as modern sinks with taps. Only the bathroom door, in our opinion, should have had the same linnen covering over its' windiws as the outside door and bedroom door. It was still too transparent to have adjacent to the kids bedroom. And if we had switched bedrooms, the parents would have had 2 x single bed and kids 1x double bed.

Very special location and unique rooms! If you are looking for an unusual, charming place you'll like Das Hornsteiner. The booking process was uncomplicated and so was the late check-in. The room was located in the building and seemed to be the old cellar, renovated for sure. It seems to be a place with a great history. We enjoyed the bathroom and the comfy beds. It was also very nice to have a fully equipped kitchen in the room. The only reason it's a four star review is that - we! Personally! May be different for everyone else - kind of didn't like the dust "snowing" from the ceiling. I do understand that it is a very special place and no plain vanilla hotel room, so I wouldn't complain about it. It's just that if you are a neurotic cleaner, you might be bothered, just wanted to mention it.

In early June 2022, we rocked up here, a group of 5, whilst staying in Passau overnight. We asked for a specific Aperitivo, which was not listed on the menu. The staff duly obliged, and granted us our wish. And it was good. So much so, we ordered a second round. Cheers Cafebar!

(Translated by Google) I was in this café with my wife - the service from the waitress was really nice, hence the one star. What horrified us, however, was the owner's treatment of the staff: in front of all the guests, she loudly and condescendingly reprimanded an employee. The atmosphere was immediately unpleasant and you could really feel the tense climate. That's not how you treat people - we definitely won't be coming back.

Had a late dinner after arriving Passau - they were serving after some other restaurants had closed. Staff were friendly and food was great, with many healthy choices. The Spinatknödel (Spinach Dumpling) was fabulous: so much flavor in the dumplings and oil it was drizzled in. They offer a side of grilled vegetables that were also well seasoned, not just an afterthought. My wife had the Caesar salad with chicken. Too full to try any of the amazing looking tortes. Looks like they have great lunch specials - will have to come back another day. Only downside, which we are quickly learning in Germany, is the number of smokers who make the outdoor seating unpleasant and even drifts into the indoors seating area. Not an issue with the restaurant, just an unfortunate reality in Germany.

(Translated by Google) We were two families and received a warm welcome. The waiter was also very kind about us moving inside because of the heat. Unfortunately, the children waited forever for a scoop of ice cream. It was incredibly small and without a cone, but with currants. It was very quiet shortly after noon, so I have little sympathy for the wait. Anyone with small children will certainly understand. The two club sandwiches we ordered were generally within the acceptable waiting time. However, that had little to do with the dish we ordered. The salad wasn't washed, the toast was whole wheat with a crust, it was ice cold, the meat was tough, and they served bacon later... I don't think I need to say anything more. The photo is descriptive enough. The waiter, however, responded to our complaint very courteously and friendly. He probably knows the problem. Since we sent it back, we weren't charged. What a shame. Because this beautiful place really enhances the pedestrian zone.

(Translated by Google) I was finally able to dine at Rosa, which I've been eyeing for so long, just passing by. The good weather meant we could sit outside. It was a bit of a shame we didn't get a wiped table and even had to move it once because one was too sticky. The second one wasn't much better, but it worked. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and our order was taken promptly. No complaints whatsoever about the staff. Unfortunately, the walk to the restrooms is a bit far due to the building, but everything is clean and nicely done, so all is well! Inside there is a lovely open kitchen where you can even watch the food being prepared and are greeted by two friendly chefs. That gave me a really good feeling. The only dish I can rate was the Caesar salad. My salad was reasonably well presented. Nothing that would make you turn around or say "Wow," but for me, the quality is more important, i.e. the show. What I did like was that the dressing came in a separate jug. This way, you can determine and distribute the dressing yourself. However, the dressing in the jug is very cold and therefore very solid, and it hardly comes out of the container, making it difficult to spread. This is a bit impractical. Perhaps it should not be stored quite so cold. The meat was good, not dry, and sufficient for my taste. There was plenty of Parmesan cheese, and the lettuce was fresh, not too big leaves and pieces. Bite-sized, very good! There were also croutons, and here's my suggestion: don't just let the bread go stale and cut it into pieces. A quick toss in herb butter, garlic oil, or other aromatic oil would have improved the salad considerably. Unfortunately, the croutons are completely tasteless and just hard. A small improvement, a big impact. In my opinion, the prices are in line with those of other restaurants nearby, and therefore neither expensive nor cheap. The interior is cozy and modern all in one. I liked it. Perhaps the small tables are noticeably more for drinks than for eating; you can hardly fit more than two plates on a table. But otherwise, a lovely restaurant and a great addition to Passau's "FuZO." I'd love to come back and try other items on the menu, because I think the chefs, who seemed very motivated to me, would like to show off their talents :-) I hope I can be a guest again soon. Also mundgerecht... sehr gut!!

(Translated by Google) Friendly lunch with room for improvement We had lunch at Bar & Grill Rosa in Passau – and hereby provide a detailed review of the lunch menu. Our first impressions were consistently positive: We received a warm welcome, the table was attractively set, and the service was friendly, attentive, and prompt. There was hardly any wait – the service was absolutely top-notch. We ordered: • Pork neck steak with fries and herb butter The meat was deliciously marinated and cooked to perfection – the taste was absolutely excellent. However, for €15, we would have expected either a larger piece or two smaller ones. The portion seemed a bit small for the price. • Bruschetta with prawns Unfortunately disappointing: The prawns were significantly overseasoned/too salty, the bread was burnt on top, soggy and mushy on the bottom – overall, an unpleasant taste. We politely addressed the issues at the end – the response was respectful and professional: They offered a sincere apology, gratefully accepted our feedback, and said it would be passed on to the kitchen. They explained to us that the chef was new and expressed their gratitude for the open feedback. Conclusion: Service and ambiance are truly top-notch; you feel welcome here. The food still has room for improvement, especially in terms of quality and value for money. With a well-coordinated kitchen team, Rosa could become a real lunchtime favorite.
