Established in 1852, Ekberg 1852 is a historic cafe, bakery, and patisserie nestled in the heart of Helsinki. This family-run establishment has retained its traditional charm and is renowned for its unchanged menu featuring classic pastries and sandwiches. While walking around Helsinki’s city center, we stumbled into a lovely street lined with trees and a tram running through — a very pleasant area. We were looking for a lunch spot and noticed that many places in Helsinki offer lunch menus between 11 and 2. We ended up at this bistro, where for €14.5 we had an all-you-can-eat lunch that included healthy options like chicken, a variety of side dishes, fresh salads, and even guacamole. Coffee and water were also included in the price. The atmosphere inside was warm and inviting, with a charming old bistro feel. And as a nice surprise for us Hungarians, there was even a dessert called “Budapest” on offer.

They can give you an hour if you came without reservation.
I came here sunday 11:30 and it was really bussy inside. But they are saying that your order will be in 15 min. So it is good to be informed.
Very authentic cafe in Helsinki and pastries were nice. Hot chocolate is also tasty. Recommend sitting outside if it’s not too cold. Very nice service from the staffs.
Oldest Bakery in Helsinki. We decided to start our day here for breakfast and experience the oldest cafe. During the week breakfast is a buffet.. a very good buffet at that.
We did also order a cinnamon bun as well and it was awesome.
Staff were so cute and lovely. The atmosphere felt modern but also historic. We enjoyed our breakfast here. I have heard there is long lines for the bakery but we were here really early and not in high season so there were no crowds.
You can make reservations for breakfast.
Staff helped me to choose the cake. I had budapest cake. It was softer and smoother with mandarin inside. Coffee could be improved.I added open buffet pictures as well.
Lovely cafe for brunch, the buffet was popular but I was a bit late. A small error in my order was resolved by the love staff. Highly recommend!

Absolute must-visit if you love cafés. This one has gorgeous interior, amazing staff and the best sweets. The cinnamon bun I had was huge, full of spices and butter. Many people here argue that it is too expensive but we spent 30 euros incl. the tip and I would pay even more for this experience.
Stopped at Cafe Ekberg (est. 1852, the oldest cafe in Helsinki, Finland) for a quick 30-minute coffee and sweets break before catching our ferry back to Tallinn, Estonia. The outside seating by the window was almost full, so we were lucky to grab one small spot. The interior has an interesting, historic vibe that reflects the cafe’s long tradition. As for the taste, I personally didn’t find anything extraordinary in the sweets or coffee we had, but it was still pleasant overall. Worth a visit if you want to experience a piece of Helsinki’s history.

Konditoria Hopia is a cozy café in Helsinki known for its incredible stuffed pies, making it a top spot for lunch. Traditional café a bit of the beaten track, a real Konditori. As I sit sipping my coffee and eating an applebun, the locals pop in for a bread, a sandwich, or a korvapusti on the go. I even see the local shopkeepers getting their breakfast before opening their shops.
Only a couple of tables inside and the same outside, but everything is cosy and genuine. I even got a visit from a "local" who wanted to make a quality check of the bread 😎 And yes, I washed and sanitised my hand afterwards 👍

Went there to pick up a quick breakfast before work, coffee and the croissant were good. I’d give the place a five star if there would be a better pick up coffee cup. Otherwise pretty good I recommend to test the place, at summer it will be nice to sit outside on the chairs.

Absolutely mind-blowing stuffed pies make Hopia one of the best lunch places in Helsinki. The cabbage pie is a must-try!

Very good freshly made ham/cheese/egg sandwitch, korvapuusti and cappuccino.
I really wish the local cafe was better. The first problem comes if you try to actually sit there for your coffee or meal. The place itself is quite nice and cozy, but the ambiance is ruined by a giant, obviously defective soda fridge in the main space. It sounds like a broken lawnmower is in the room and is quite unpleasant. I understand it is probably expensive to replace but this has been going on for years.
My second gripe is with the sandwiches. They are gas station quality, with vegetarians paying the same for a sandwich with the meat removed. Forget avocado, hummus a nice sauce or anything. Its just bread, cheese, lettuce and a pickle if you're lucky.
The sweet stuff is pretty good, I just wish they tried a bit harder. Also they open a bit too late for me to ever have time for breakfast (8.30)
In a world where everything is sushi this and cappuccino that, Hopia offers you original Finnish cafe experience with Finnish food and actual, honest filter brewed coffee. Place is clean and cozy and the products are well made.

St. George Bakery in Helsinki is such a cozy spot! The pastries are fresh and tasty, and the bread is amazing – definitely worth trying. The coffee is great too, perfect with a croissant or pastry. The staff is friendly, even when it gets busy. It’s a lovely place to start the day or take a break while exploring the city. One of the best coffees I have ever had.

The place is very popular, so finding a seat can be challenging. Although the name suggests it’s a bakery, the pastries seem rather ordinary. They look good, but the taste is nothing special.
The savory avocado sandwich was left uneaten because it had a bitter taste. Savory sandwiches would be better if they were grilled—without grilling, the bread is quite dense and not as enjoyable.
The coffee comes with free refills, which is a nice touch.
Overall, I’d rate it a 3.
The place was pretty empty and quiet when we went there. We got two pastries to-go. We didn’t have to wait long in line and the pastry selection was pretty wide. The prices were okay considering it’s in Helsinki. The taste was also quite good.
Don't be fooled from the outside, which looks very sterile and just attached to a fancy hotel. Step through the door, down the steps, through the glass doors and into a little gem. Its constantly busy and has a very vibrant/bustling but relaxed atmosphere. Around the corner you'll find an array of fresh bread sandwiches with allsorts of fillings, pastries (the cinnamon bun is gorgeous😉) and fancy cakes. There are a range of coffees and teas too. You can sit at a table or more comfy sofas. It has a lovely decor.
Had the seasonal bun which had raspberry jam and vanilla cream with cardamom. Just perfect with a silky macchiato enjoyed on the terrace area in front. Peaceful with beautiful views of the park opposite.
Cute bakery with nice atmosphere. The pastries were good and so was the coffee. The price is normal for Helsinki. I just wish they had a few more comfortable seating options. We had to sit in a corner and the table was too low and small
Decent bakery near our hote. The selection was small on the day I visited. I wished the display area was closer to the cashier as I had a hard time checking out what was available while waiting in line.

Great little bakery connected to the St George Hotel. Super comfortable dining area. Great coffee . I also enjoyed a scone - buttery and delicious with homemade jam. My son enjoyed the almond croissant.

fresh bakery.. we had breakfast there we ordered one avocado toast with a hard boiled egg which took five minutes longer than usual. They informed us about that upon ordering also we had two plank croissants, one cappuccino one Americano and when granola whole food was good and excellent service they had cool water bottles with free refills all that for 35€ but it is way hot inside and very sunny outside

I enjoy a great Latte, I am a HUGE espresso lover. The presentation of pastries were very enticing. So we decided to try both sweet and savory, paired with lattes. The prices were moderate, but truthfully just a bit on the pricey side if I were to be totally honest. To balance the price you're paying; the quality of the food was excellent. The bakery is on the smaller side, and was very crowded when we arrived. We found a space near the window and awaited or food. The presentation and taste was divine, and the lattes were PERFECT. The only down side is that it can get very crowded and it is not a spacious vibe, like the beauty of Heritage Cafe, but it is it's own jewel of a quaint spot for a quick latte and top tier pastry.

Cute little cafe! A must-visit if you’re in Helsinki. Coffee was decent, beautiful minimalist interior, and the pastries are serve on a pottery plate. The hazelnut fig cake is delicious 😋 friendly barista too!

Loved the interior. There are several seats inside and plenty more outside, with heaters to keep you warm.
My only feedback is that I wished the pastry of the sausage roll was warmer and crispier. The roll was kind of cold and the pastry was soggy. Perhaps it's just a personal preference.
I still enjoyed it despite that and would come back here to try other things in the future.
Lovely cafe and bakery in the Kallio neighborhood. Beautiful pastries and delicious coffee. We were lucky to visit on a sunny Sunday morning and were able to sit outside. It is a five minute walk from our accommodation at CityBox Helsinki. Highly recommend. Enjoy!
Delicious desserts and excellent service. Beware: They were so good, we ended up ordering another round of desserts! We also had iced coffee (which was so refreshing!) though it’s not shown in the pictures.
The food is mouthwatering 😋 but quite pricey. The location has amazing street view with the Kallio church. We enjoyed our brunch and this place is a must visit when you go to Helsinki. The Customer service is great. It’s queueing so you need to carry a little bit of patience.

Bakery Eatery Levain Töölö is a popular spot in Helsinki, known for its hearty brunch, pastries, and coffee. The café exudes the charm of a Californian brunch joint and the finesse of a Parisian patisserie. Their signature sourdough bread and Portuguese pastel de nata tarts are highly recommended.
My favourite brunch & breakfast in town, both eat in and via food delivery app. The egg sandwich is so rich with flavour and the pancakes are so fluffy. My fave is perhaps the yogurt with homemade granola, a bit too sweet but hits the spot regardless.

Had to pay a visit at lunchtime to test the new Summer menu and as per usual, Levain did not disappoint!
The atmosphere is unique and the menus offer a wide range of both all-day breakfast and lunch dishes along with the sweets and drinks. We ordered two fresh Summer salads, one with cold smoked salmon and one plain, accompanied by an oat cappuccino. Really tasty!
The staff was kind to explain us how the ordering process works the first thing we entered, even without us asking. The customer’s toilet had run out of soap and was not the tidiest I’ve seen, but otherwise an excellent experience! <3

Lovely egg sandwich. Had the menu with egg sandwich, müsli, nuts and yogurt, juice and coffee. 21€. Asked for cappuccino instead of filtered coffee, had to pay an extra euro for that. I total 44€ for two.

Was visiting the rock church, however as the Church did not open until 10am, we decided tk fo in for a quick drink. Ordered the hot chocolate and the matcha latte. The hot chocolate was great and not tok sweet and the matcha latte actually tasted like great quality ceremonial grade matcha. The latte was rich and well balanced. Customer service was wonderful and friendly and this cafe is located just down the street from the rock church (probably a 30 second walk).

The Eromanga bakery is a favourite spot in Helsinki for coffee and freshly baked bread. The producer of the pies has been making them the same way since 1846 and they're definitely worth trying! Kind staff and a cosy atmosphere make this spot a winner.
the salmon soup was exceptional! i loved it. it’s very nice that you have bread to this for free and also drinks, like water tea or coffee. will be back tomorrow to try their xxl cinnamon buns

We went here 3 times during our time in Helsinki!! Loved this bakery that was right around the corner. Amazing service by the same older women who even remembered us and was so nice explaining different items. Recommended local favorite, meat pie. Which was packed full and in a slightly sweet crispy donut like. Amazing! Husband loved the salmon soup. Then the sugar butter buns and coffee were the best. Loved the cozy decor inside and local experience. Highly recommend!! Take your time in the morning to just relax and dine in here
The salmon soup was so good (very underrated compared to other places). I drank it till the last drop. 🥹 In the set (€9) also offer bread and tea/coffee which is considered a very good price. The meat pie was also nice for those who love carbs like me. Plus the lovely aunty was very kind and caring. Will definitely visit again for the salmon soup (and other bakeries too).
Got to try Runeberg (seasonal for a month), laskiaispulla (cream bun) and their famous lahapiirakka (meat pie). All were super delicious and home made feeling.
Store decor is old school and cosy, amongst the modern cafes in town. The lady working at the time was very friendly and helpful, and explaining which items are traditional and history.
Close to the old market and harbour. Highly recommend dropping by.

I found this place when I have transit for my next bus, decided to drop by since my stomach crumble to get a breakfast 😁 I ordered cinnamon bread/roll (forgot what is name on the menu I just pointed at it) and cappuccino. I like the taste and softness on the bread, the taste so yummy and combine with the coffee it’s really unbeatable combination.

Attention to details with candles on the table and cushions, make for a cosy and inviting space.

Such a great, lovely, cute and girlish place with everything pink and adorable, I just love how it looks inside, the aroma of fresh bread and a good selection of cakes and pastry. Was hunting for the Granny Smith's mousse cake there for a while since it was sold out every time I arrived, but finally got it and it was very gentle, may be even too gentle for me, but still good. Next time going there for lunch since I heard super nice comments about the salmon soup there, and definitely going to hunt for their carrot cake.

Overpriced and boring.
Got a takeaway with Passio and Tumma suklaa-kirsikka leivokset. Taken into account size per price ration, I was expecting some unique and mastered flavors. Let’s get one thing straight — the desserts looked absolutely outstanding and delicious. Hence, the expectations were set high.
I preferred chocolate pastry to the Passion one, but none of those tasted delicious enough to make a comeback.
Passio pastry: the acidity of passion fruit did not work well together with the rest of the mousse, and the pastry ended up tasting like spoiled cottage cheese.
Tumma suklaa-kirsikka: everything is in place, but the flavors are just... mediocre? I wish there was more punch from the cherry.
Maybe next time I should just grab the buns :)
A pistachio cheesecake that tastes like lemon. Must change the name to lemon cheeskake. So disappointing, and for that price one would expect raw pistachio...

Traditional Finnish bakery Rönttösrouva Oy specialises in delicacies from the northern region of Kainuu. The bakery sells hand-baked, berry-filled “Rönttönen” pies and savoury pies with smoked salmon and reindeer as well as other traditional treats such as “tar bread” and sourdough bread.
Rönttönen (traditional Finnish pastry with rye crust and filled with berries and sweetened potato) was delicious and their selection seemed varied and yummy. Nice atmosphere and friendly service.

Not satisfying the expectations.
Nice place, well decorated, good atmosphere, however the food is not good at all.
Very basic, simple, trying to mix flavours without any sense at all.
Probably expensive for what you get, fish of the day was just grilled and nothing else.

Our waiter, older lady, was extremely rude and had an attitude like she was better than us customers. My boyfriend requested to have the steak without mushrooms and she told him it was of course possible. When we got our food she served him a plate with mushrooms and didn’t recall him requesting to remove the mushrooms. She explicitly accused him not letting her know in advance! Then the waitress proceeded to “make the dish again” - in reality she just scraped the mushrooms off the plate and served it as new in 2 minutes. He ate the steak but felt disgusted even thinking it had touched mushrooms. Rest assured, we will not be attending again.
Table by the window to look over our beautiful Esplanade. Clean and well kept Finnish-Swedish interior from our golden years. Good traditional food and excellent service. Happy to still have these traditions alive.
We went to celebrate our first time in Helsinki and boy was it an amazing experience! I personally had a Negroni that was just like I love! Than I had the salmon with a poached egg and it was delicious! For the desert, I had a full coconut desert and it was fresh and delicious! This restaurant is a bit pricey but in my opinion it's worth it, the ingredients are such high quality! Plus the waitress was adorable!
Will not return. Found bone in the meatballs, sweaty pork flavor, and a major downgrade in quality.
This used to be my go-to place for Swedish meatballs. They used to be rich, comforting, and made with beef. Now they’ve switched to 100 percent pork, and it shows. The flavor is sweaty and off. I bit into hard chunks of bone and cartilage. One bite nearly chipped my tooth. I’ve attached photos. Yup, that really came out of a meatball. The color was a pale grey beige.
The dish came without lingonberries, which are a standard in any proper Swedish version. Used to always come with the dish. I asked, and was told you now have to request them separately. That makes no sense. It’s like eating fries without ketchup, you just don’t.
This was clearly a cost-cutting move, and it’s lost them a loyal customer. My family and I won’t be back unless they bring back the original all-beef recipe.
If you have come this far thanks you reading, go somewhere else if you’re looking for meatballs. Btw did not get a discount or apologies only ”I will inform the chef”. I gave the waiter my feedback already, this is not news for then. This is for you, the customer.

Beautiful sit-down, full service restaurant upstairs! I enjoyed the planned course menu with prawn starter and chateaubriand entree. The blueberry crumble was a miss--it did not taste right. One friend tried the truffle menu, and shared a taste of each course, which was delightful! I really enjoyed the beautiful decor of the restaurant and the views as the sun set. Would love to return on my next trip!

If you come to Helsinki and have no idea where to go, then I would happily suggest Café Engel ! Close to the Cathedral, it's a lovely little place, with delicious food - and I have gone multiple times with friends. I would also heartily recommend their salmon soup, my personal fave !

I had reindeer meat and mashed potatoes with sparkling water. It was fresh but for first try it has different taste especially red berries. As a desert I had blueberry cake it was so delicious.
We visited Café Engel during a weekday lunch. Although the restaurant was quite busy, we managed to find seats without much difficulty. Orders were placed through the waitress, and I chose the meatballs. The food was served promptly, and the meatballs were decent. However, I wished there had been more sauce to accompany the mashed potatoes for a more satisfying balance of flavours.

Had a short stop here for some Easter pastries on my way to another coffee shop. The pastries here are better than their coffee for sure, I wouldn’t call it a specialty cafe.
The easter pastry with lemon cream I had was quite tasty and if I had space in my stomach I would have ordered more breads or pastries.

Dreaming of their brunch right now. We went in for coffee not really hungry and when I saw the brunch buffet table I couldn’t help myself. For US standards it was a bit pricey but was totally worth it. Loved how fresh the food was. Enjoyed their unique to me way of serving eggs as a sort of crust-less quiche with carrots and herbs. The space was really light, open and modern with plants. Loved the overall experience and highly recommend.

This place’s baristas creates the best looking coffees I have experienced so far. It’s foamy, doesn’t get extremely hot and heated (you can drink right away without burning your throat) and the taste is well balanced, but packs with coffees aromatics and flavours.

Their beans hail from carefully sourced origins, roasted on-site, and baristas handle everything from V60 to Syphon with care.” Locals call it their go-to, micro-roasters and Reddit’s Helsinki coffee guide even names it their personal #1, praising the baristas as among “the best in the city” . If you want coffee that’s both art and craft, served with integrity and just the right level of “I know my beans”, this basement roast temple is worth the pilgrimage.
1 | A roastery café right next to the Telakakatu tram stop. The oat flat white I had was good.
2 | They use beans from their own roastery. What’s in the grinder is written on a board above the counter. During our visit, they had Ethiopia and Kenya, and guests could choose.
3 | For some reason, I didn’t really like the vibe of the café. It wasn’t very cozy — maybe because of the size of the space, the loud music, the lighting, or how the chairs were arranged. Either way, I didn’t feel completely comfortable sitting there. I thought about taking off a star for that, but the staff were kind and made up for it.
4 | The café sells a wide variety of their roasted beans. They even have a takeaway window, so you can pretty much grab a coffee straight from the tram.
5 | To go with the coffee, they offer both sweet and savory pastries.
House blend is a dark roast (not my favourite) and therefore I picked the single origin. Milk is of the right temperature and texture. Tasty.

This is probably my favorite cafe of all time. We stayed in Helsinki for 5 days and went to this cafe 3/5 days. Here’s everything we tried:
Drinks
- Matcha latte, both iced and hot. They definitely use ceremonial matcha here, it’s high quality.
- Hot hojicha latte. Good, but I prefer matcha.
- Flat white. Good, but I still preferred the matcha.
Food
- Matcha tiramisu. My favorite thing from here, so good.
- Basque cheesecake with coffee whipped cream. Super good.
- Scone with strawberry and cream. Also super good.
- Hojicha canele with apricot cream. I prefer normal canele, but this was still tasty and very unique.
- Strawberry daifuku. I usually don’t like daifuku that much, but liked this one a lot.
They change their menu regularly, and everything we tried was extremely high quality. Highly highly recommend this place.

Expectations and reality matched perfectly! The coffee was amazing, the matcha was genuinely delicious, and the toast toppings were so fresh. Everything was just perfect! I’d say the prices are maybe a couple of euros higher than average, but I believe that’s due to the brand Andante is building. If you’re wondering where to go for your midday coffee or breakfast, this is definitely the place to visit. Here you’ll find a tasty and light breakfast, quality drinks, and mouthwatering desserts - and everything looks super Instagrammable, if you know what I mean!
Very nice cafe. Free refill for the filter coffee, which is always very much appreciated. I liked the atmosphere, the pastries looked delicious. The staff were friendly and nice. You can browse through some clothes while queuing for the toilet.
Best coffee I have had in Helsinki (so far, though I doubt anything gets better)! The barista is very knowledgeable and is opening his own roaster soon. Besides the cappuccino I ordered, he made me a special hot pourover which was very smooth.
It is also a good place to work (no wifi though).
And finally, a special mention to the cinnamon roll! Very fresh and again, probably the best I have had in Helsinki!

I've been visiting every bakery in the region looking for good bread, because back where I come from we have great baking traditions. Nothing was even close to the taste that I remember from back home. Until I found this place. It tastes like childhood memories. 10/10 bread.

This small bakery in Helsinki sells delicious Finnish pastries, bread, and coffee. It is only open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and is thus not always open. However, the bakery's sandwiches are some of the best in town and its semla (a custard dessert) is amazing. If you're ever in Helsinki, make sure to stop by Helsinki Homemade Bakery!

Went there 10:30am to queue up and 85% of baked goods was already sold out by then. They bake very small patches of pastries daily, so if not live around the corner or come first thing when they open, don’t expect to get anything - for that I feel very disappointing!
Honestly, you had me at tiramisu croissant! My god they are good. Sadly I bought every variety which means there are no surprises for tomorrow!
My friend bought a croissant and pain au chocolat from here and they were absolutely to die for. However, when I visited today (Saturday, Oct 18) at 14:11, the staff shut the door and gestured that they were closed — even though both the sign on the door and the online listing state they’re open until 15:00 on Saturdays.
Perhaps they had sold out for the day, which is understandable, but it would’ve been courteous to step outside and explain or apologize to waiting customers. They could have still been serving coffee, especially since there were other customers sitting inside at the time.
I rarely say this, but I was genuinely shocked to experience service this dismissive and nonchalant.

Tiny bakery with very good croissants. They are making small batches, so sometimes special croissants are out of sale before lunch time. Tried their plain croissant and baklava one-both were fresh, tasty and perfectly baked. Sadly, bakery offers only coffee, so as a tea lover I had no options. Also a bit of complain about packaging: they sometimes put special croissants into paper bags, so creamy top will be smudged all over the bag insides:(

1 | A very cozy little café with excellent coffee. If I lived in Helsinki, a large part of my paycheck would probably end up here.
2 | The oat flat white was one of the best I’ve had recently. The coffee had a beautifully full flavor. My girlfriend had a filter and she praised it as well.
3 | Looking back, I regret a little that we came right after a meal and didn’t try the cocoa roll or another treat from the counter. All the pastries looked very good.
4 | Prices at the café are fairly high, but they match the quality of the experience. Espresso and americano are €4.50, cappuccino is €5.40, and flat white is €5.20. They also offer nitro cold brew as a specialty. If you’ve never had it, I highly recommend it. Thanks to the nitrogen, it’s creamier.
5 | The café itself is quite small inside and is laptop-free. In nice weather you can sit outside. It’s cozy and a very pleasant place to spend time. Customers were coming and going, and I felt that many were regulars. I can’t blame them, the staff was excellent. All in all, it was an outstanding coffee experience.
Still thinking about this cinnamon roll - a perfect little treat! It’s a little sweet (it has crystallized sugar on the bottom), but definitely worth having it with coffee. They sold out of cardamom buns even right after opening, so I’ll have to try it next time. Would definitely come back!

This was the last cafe we visited on our trip to Helsinki and it was, by far, one of the best. It's small and cozy and the food and coffee were worth the walk. We had cappuccinos and a buttery, lovely almond croissant. Looking forward to coming back on our next visit.

Tasty lunch. There’s a lunch menu that changes daily, 10,4€. Todays lunch was a filled croissant that’s made to order so service can be a bit slow if many people show up at once. Went around 11 and there was not bread loaves or baguette available anymore.

She went back to tell about the meat issue and got it changed to some cheese instead. At this point we were a bit embarrassed so we decided not to complain about the coffees too and just left them without drinking. I am sure that if we went back we would have got tea instead but we didnt feel like bothering the nice people again!

A classic small family bakery since 1955, in a neighborhood from 1930. Perfect for small pastries to have in the park next door. Fresh bread all made on site. The real thing in a very real neighborhood: the local baker your grandmother would have visited as a child!
I've had one of the best pastry ever there, the donut filled with bluebberies and cream, and the staff is wonderful if you're in Helsinki this is the place to go

I’ve been on a hunt for great almond croissant in Helsinki for a while and finding this place close to my neighborhood is such a win. The café is right by the train station and has that cozy welcoming feel to it. Seats are not packed so you can enjoy your own space there, the place is also kids friendly. Small artisanal bakery managed by a indian-finnish couple, in addiction to the usual baked goods they seems to be specialised in samosa and various types of carelian pies.
I tried both a samosa with cauliflower and a karjalanpiirakka with barley.
They also had other kinds of samosas as of karjalanpiirakkas.
I also bought a piece of rhubarb pie, the owner told me that's made according to the co-owner family recipe.
Everything was excellent, great price/quality ratio in my opinion.
Owner was very kind and informative about their products.
Definitely will be back if next time I'll be in Helsinki.
This bakery is a breath away from the Temppeliaukion kirkko and you must visit to taste the local breakfast of Finland! The lady inside is very helpful just trust her in what she says about her delicious snacks!
Both the savory and the sweet stuff are excellent 🤤 our favourites are the Karelian pies, the vegan samosas, and the sweet buns. They also keep well for a while after you buy them - or you can choose the frozen options and bake them later. Would definitely recommend!

I have been eating their treats since their inception in Hakunila and I always get back to them. The flavors are very authentic and the taste of their Karelian pies always makes me come back to them. I would personally recommend all their products but if we get into specifics definitely Karelian pies, samosas (vegan as well as non-veg), twistits and pullas are amazing. The pullas last quite a few days in the fridge and don’t dry up at all. One last thing is their vegan products are equally good and I have not come across many shops or bakeries that make vegan treats taste equally good. Highly recommend!

Last week, I stopped by to get an Americano to go. The girl at the counter immediately suggested adding a second shot. I declined because I just wanted a regular Americano. Besides, the coffee already cost €4.50, which isn’t exactly cheap, and I didn’t want to pay extra for another shot, naively assuming that an Americano would be flavorful and strong enough on its own.
To my surprise, the coffee was very diluted and not strong at all—it clearly needed a second shot, which would have raised the price to around €6.
So, here’s my question: Is it just me, and am I missing something, or should a €4.50 coffee be of decent quality on its own?
Overall, I have to say that the café is quite nice. Last year, I went there for brunch, and the Americano was excellent even without the second shot.

If you buy buffet, you can select 3 pieces at a time, once finished, you come to the counter for the next 3 pieces. They serve each round on a new plate. If you eat 6 cake pieces, you'll already make it worth the buffet price. Definitely recommend if you are a sweet tooth 😋 because you can try so many different cake tastes.
My favourite are lakritsimacaroni, sitruunamerenki, vadelmakermakakku, marmorisuklaa, vege-vadelma-vanilja (the last 3 were a recommendation by an employee, and she was right, delicious cakes)
The tiny minus: a strawberry on the top of the vege cake was spoiled and had mold on it (I informed them), which I noticed after taking a bite unfortunately.

Went for the cake buffet and had 12 slices before I got too full. Did not have lunch, mind you. To be honest, it is up to your luck if the cake you chose is good. 50% of the cakes I chose was not that great but then, you get great-tasting ones too. If you have time and an empty stomach, then come and try them all.
Had some traditional Finnish bakery goods with black coffee. Service was quick, simple and patient. Great atmosphere to wrap it up.

Meli returns as top one of our brunch places in Helsinki. We tried Cevapcici which we recommend so much and next time we will go directly for the 10 pcs one — the sausage was so tasty! If you decide to come in weekend morning, get prepared that the place will be super busy, waiting time is slightly long and you need to get the water by yourself and probably take the napkins from other tables where available. Just feel and enjoy the hustle and bustle.

The bread and pastries looked awesome, the place very cosy and inviting; however, despite my intention to stay in for a coffee and bun, I decided to leave the place before being served.
The young lady at the counter seemed so busy preparing a tray for a customer that couldn't even acknowledge that there were two people wanting in front of her; no "hello", no "just a moment", nothing at all,not even eye contact. At some point there were other people coming out of the kitchen side, but I and the other customer waiting had the same treatment. In the end I left without buying anything. Total lack of basic customer service. And all this on a weekday around 9.30.

As I strolled past its enticing displays, I couldn't resist trying their unique pistachio laskiaispulla—a sweet bread roll filled with creamy pistachio paste and topped with fresh cream and chopped pistachios. It was an absolute treat!
A French-inspired artisan bakery store on the “E” floor of the busy Kamppi shopping centre. Their piirakat resemble the Swiss cheese tartlets (“Chäschüechli”) that I used to enjoy in my childhood.

We picked up breakfast from Gateau and, unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. I had a croissant, a rhubarb quark pastry, and a smoothie—none of which impressed.
The croissant, priced at €4, should have been technically flawless. Instead, the puff pastry lacked the expected lightness and flakiness. The layers were stuck together, resulting in a dense, doughy texture that detracted from both mouthfeel and flavor. The rhubarb quark pastry had similar issues—off texture and a flavor profile that felt unbalanced.
I am not the first customer complaining about the croissants, so there must be something to it.
The smoothie was bland and uninspired. For the same price, you can find a much better one just next door.
Overall, the appearance and pricing at Gateau suggest high quality, but the reality fell short. I won’t be returning.
a few days before visiting helsinki i subscribed to the fazer café loyalty program because i had heard they give discounts and freebies. as soon as i signed up, i got an offer for a free bun at gateau, fazer’s bakery. i couldn’t believe it.
still skeptical, i decided to redeem it and to my surprise it worked! not only that, but the lady who served me was very kind. the offer was simple: buy something, get a bun of your choice for free. i bought a karelian pasty for just over 1€, and got a cardamom bun for free.
it was my first time trying a cardamom bun and i didn’t know what to expect, but it was phenomenal. soft, fragrant, slightly sweet, and spiced in a way that felt both comforting and unique. the karelian pasty was great too, but the bun stole the show.
after that, i was hooked. i became obsessed. even now, a month after returning home, i’m still on the hunt for cardamom spice so i can bake my own buns. i miss them dearly.
I didn't understand why Finnish cinnamon roll is famous. Of course, I know it's a tradition. the tasty was okay. not so special as my experience. But, once I tried Vegan Cinnamon from Gateau I can not stop eating 😍 it melt slowely and lovely sweet. Thesedays, I eat vegan cinnamon roll once or twice a week at Gateau !

I had seen the delicious laskiaispulla on display at Gateau Kamppi in Helsinki quite a few times as I walked from my hotel to the Metro station. I decided I would go against tradition have try to the pistachio laskiaispulla. This was a sweet bread roll, the top removed and a sweet pistachio paste added, fresh cream and chopped pistachio on top. It was rather nice, fresh roll, tasty pistachio, the sweetness offset with the fresh cream. Delicious.

This conditory has really great atmosphere. Most (if not all) of its offerings are vegan. We actually went here to have their vegan macarons but couldn't get any as they didn't make them on Wednesdays, only in the end of the week. We were slightly disappointed by not getting the macarons but were comforted by their awesome pulla with different seasonings inside. I picked one with Nutella and my friend took blueberries. Chai latte was tad too sweet to my tastes.

My wife and I bought two cakes from them for our wedding. And even though one was slightly wrong in its flavors, it was still over-the-top delicious like the second cake.
Their lunch buffet is delicious.
And, well, not to gush too much, but they make The Best Karelian Pies I've had yet in Finland.

Even the music the played was nice. They also seem to have lunch buffets but we didn’t try it. It looked delicious though!

The location is nice, service is great and atmosphere is very lovely. I also really like the tea selection. So it is almost 5, but the food I tried is a bit let down. The foccacia had too much mayonese and cake had a but too much of butter decorations. So if food is a bit improved then it is definitely a 5.

This is a great company, they walked me through the process of ordering a birthday cake for my sister who lives in Helsinki (I am abroad btw) by email and it delivered on time early for her birthday. Its challenging to write a review that praises this bakery enough, their work is exquisite, the cake design is one of the most professional I have ever seen. I have purchased 4 cakes from frangipani and have never been disappointed. The first one was the lemon cake, it was delicious, the second was one with the most gorgeous petit flors the 3rd was a cat cake which was modelled on my russian blue and the 4th was a very scary halloween cake. Oh and the best of all was my wedding cake! Red velvet with the most beautiful flowers. Timo and Adel are such wonderful people and give the best at all times. Their service is amazing. I cannot recommend this bakery enough.
