Nestled on Meridian Street, The Birch Door Cafe is a charming wood cabin serving up delicious homemade breakfast and lunch options all day long. Since its establishment in 2017, this cozy spot has become known for its generous portions of hearty food and quirky interior decor. Visitors rave about the friendly service and mouthwatering dishes like pancakes, omelets, and corned beef hash.
This restaurant is an incredible choice for breakfast! The service is great - they are constantly coming around to refill coffee cups so mine never even had the chance to get empty. The environment is comfortable and welcoming. The menu is huge with any breakfast option you could want. I split the garden scramble with potatoes and the apple pancake and they were both great. The garden scramble was very fresh as it was made with fresh veggies. The apple pancake is HUGE but a must try. It was warm, sweet, and delicious.

I would drive across the border for this place. We were spending a weekend in Semiahmoo and stopped here on the way back. The space itself is warm and welcoming, spacious yet cozy - every seat was full! We had to wait a few minutes for our tables but were able to be order drinks right away. The food was incredible. Everything tasted fresh and each item ordered did not disappoint (we were a large party and ordered quite a few!) our server was so friendly and patient as we debated what to get on their very extensive menu. This place is really just great all around. Hope to go back soon!

I drove over an hour and a half to try the Dutch Pancake and it was worth it. Honestly, I'm not sure where to start. My full experience was amazing. The food, was fast, hot, beautiful and delicious. I've personally tried to make a Dutch pancake "tried" being the key word. Never again I will do the drive just to get one! Next time, I will be trying the corned beef hash! Now the service... attentive (but not overly), helpful, kind and professional. Both the girls that I interacted with genuinely seem to enjoy their jobs. For the restaurant itself, it was naturally lit well, clean and pleasant feeling. The entranceway was inviting and we were seated immediately. There was a wait for the outdoor seating. Completely to be expected on a beautiful, sunny, warm Thursday at noon. With that being said, almost every seat in the restaurant full, with what appeared to be two parties waiting to be sat outside. It was not unreasonable for it to have been a little loud, but still being able to hear what my son was saying. Table, chairs, plates, and silverware, all clean. Nothing on the floor and no sticky table... it was nice. Thank you to my waitress, and to the cook for the amazing experience. Also congratulations to the owner you've got an amazing team. Thank you.

One of the best breakfasts I have had. Lovely atmosphere with great service. A little more pricey then you typical rusty spoon diner but well worth it. It can get busy but the wait is not excessive. Plenty of parking even if towing. The do the basics very well as long as their more gourmet options. You are likely to find something on the menu that is unique.
Nicole W — Google review
We got sat pretty quickly, we got there around 9:20 am. Food was out quickly and our drinks came quick too. The service just was not good. We couldn’t find our server and I asked two separate people to please get us some to-go cups. The first server that we asked said that she has to go around and give coffee to everybody else to find our server. My sister then I got up and went and found somebody else and she said that everybody’s been really busy running around. Instead of just helping us get a to-go cup. It’s very expensive. A cup of tea is 5.50 and a regular cup of brewed coffee was also that much. The French blueberry cobbler was very good. And we eventually had to go up to pay because the server never came back. No one said anything as we left. I will never go back.
Ivy F — Google review
At first glance on the menu I thought dang this is a little overpriced. After receiving the food I can say it's adequately priced. The portions are large and the quality is top notch. The apple pancakes are a souffle layered with apples, cinnamon crunch, and served with delicious apple syrup. It was massive and I could only finish half of it. The biscuits are made from scratch and huge. The gravy is delicious with a strong taste of sage (which I like). My partner ordered his eggs soft scrambled and they cooked them perfectly. Not everywhere can do a good soft scramble but they nailed it. The mocha with homemade espresso whipped cream was fantastic. The service was great despite being super busy and all of the staff were so incredibly sweet. This will certainly be our new breakfast/brunch spot!

If you find yourself in Bellingham, The Birch Door is a must, maybe even a bucket list location. This place is quite possibly the best breakfast place on the west coast. I won’t lie the waits can be long, but you can order craft cocktails or gourmet coffee while you wait. DON’T LEAVE, worth the wait!!! Our group got the baked Ham and Cheese Omelettes, Blueberry Lemon French Toast and the Strawberry Granola Pancakes. We shared, it was amazing… per usual. Please see photo evidence…
R G — Google review
Such a great restaurant! The wait was a bit long but expected at the time I went, but they have a coffee window to order espresso drinks, alcohol, and non-alcoholic beverages. The food is incredible, pancakes come with everything but there are no GF options. The omelettes are cooked in a French style so super fluffy and a bit creamy in the middle still.

Breakfast restaurant
Little Cheerful Cafe is a compact American eatery located in Bellingham, WA. It offers familiar breakfast fare and sandwiches in a relaxed atmosphere. Visitors have praised the cheerful host who efficiently manages the waiting list by taking names and cell numbers to notify when a table becomes available. The menu features interesting options, including a mystery burrito, but also includes classic dishes like bacon and eggs and biscuits with gravy which are described as delicious and plentiful.
Unequivocally the best breakfast we’ve had all year. The wait was relatively short but well worth it. Service was fantastic the whole time and the food was extremely delicious and came out in decent portions. Price was relatively affordable for the quality and quantity of food. And the drinks were delicious, especially the brass monkey.
D M — Google review
Neat little place. The wait was about 40 min. There is self serve coffee available while you wait. I’m from Canada and had never had biscuit and gravy before so thought I’d give it a go. Wasn’t my fave thing in the world but I can see why many Americans like this. The biscuits were fresh and tasty but gravy for breakfast, I can’t figure that out. The servers were really friendly and helpful. My wife had this homemade soup that I tried. It was awesome.
Daniel — Google review
The Little Cheerful Cafe is aptly named for it is little and very cheerful. The decor is quirky and colorful and everyone in the restaurant, both customers and staff seemed to be having a very good time. It's a small restaurant and was very busy when I visited so I was concerned that I might not be able to get my meal in time and still make my appointment but the service prompt and the food was fast, hot and delicious. The hash browns were especially tasty. They were cooked well done with sweet onions and the taste reminded me of the way my mom used to make them. The portions are generous and the price is very competitive. The cafe can't accommodate large parties. Most of the tables seat two or four people and there are a few tables outdoors. There's paid street parking only. I didn't have too much trouble finding a place to park even though it was lunchtime on a weekday. This is a perfect place to have a quick breakfast or lunch when you're downtown. I highly recommend The Little Cheerful Cafe.

I came by little cheerful on a Monday with my toddler and my sister‘s family. She had two kids Of her own as well. We ordered brunch and the food was great, but the service could’ve been better. I think the waitress was a little overwhelmed. We had to order some stuff from a different gentleman. I ordered the pork belly Benedict and it was really great. It was different. The pork belly was soft but crispy? I don’t know how that was possible to be both at the same time. The eggs were great and the sauce on it was scrumptious. My toddler got the kids pancake, and it came out in a very cute teddy bear shape. It was great. I also ordered the whopping sandwich to go for my husband and he really liked that sandwich. Overall, the restaurant was very cute and the food was solid. I wouldn’t mind coming back at some point next time when I’m visiting Bellingham.

It's great to see bellingham growing up! They got menu items here that you cent get anywhere else! I had the pork Verde skillet- YES! Breakfast in the cast iron! I went twice, also had the pork belly Benedict, and it was a dream! Can't dry enough about this place, food on time no matter how busy! Great tasting, unique, and the service was perfect. Did I mention they have house made salsas bottled on the table?
Weldon H — Google review
This place has been banging out a kick butt breakfast from when I was in school at Western , we’ll say a long time ago….. It was even better than I remember. Our group enjoyed an R-rated pancake as an appetizer, hilarious!! We slit the biscuits and gravy( scratch gravy folks, not packaged bs) and a Bacon and Cheese skillet. Great stuff! Sadly we weren’t on top of it with pics so got a shot of the aftermath and a couple “colorful” atmosphere shots! It’s a cozy little diner as the name implies and had to wait a bit. They text you so you can explore downtown while you wait, so didn’t think it was bad at all.
R G — Google review
Crazy to think that my first visit here was yesterday and I have lived here since 1986. I had the eggs Benedict with pork belly, and it was delicious. The customer service was great, and I'll definitely go back.
Jamie D — Google review
One visit only, a bit early on a Monday. Little has nothing to do with their portion sizes. The Cook apparently doesn't want anyone going away hungry. They offer a trio of interesting house made sauces, one berry sweet, one lightly vinegar, one spicy. The biscuits look different, they use ghee (clarified butter). The skillet was nice, but kept egging me on to kill it. The Avocado was perfect, but I ate some beforeI took this photo. I'd come back here and work through their menu, esp. pancakes, but woukd want some serious yardwork or a gym to visit afterwards. Friendly staff, what is not to like??

Harris Avenue Cafe is a cozy breakfast and lunch spot located in Bellingham, WA. The cafe offers a variety of upscale diner dishes as well as vegetarian options in a comfortable setting. Visitors rave about the delicious cornmeal buttermilk pancakes and perfectly seasoned steak and potatoes. Despite an unfortunate fire incident, the cafe remains popular for its friendly service and hot, tasty food.
Reliably good breakfasts and lunches -- good enough to bring visitors! The vibe is really nice and it's always clean. At a recent breakfast, we had a couple of omelettes, French toast, and a traditional breakfast. It was all very good. There's outdoor seating in addition to indoor. Service is pretty good, if just a bit inattentive at times. We had a very pleasant, leisurely breakfast and will definitely return.

The food and drinks were very good! Service was fun and attentive. It was a pretty busy place on a Saturday but they were able to get us in very quickly.
Angela L — Google review
It said they weren't open but to our delight they were! We're late breakfast eaters, closer to noon than morning hours. Sometimes finding a breakfast spot is hard so when we do, we rejoice! Harris Ave is the perfect spot! We were greeted right away by a super friendly gal that seemed genuinely happy to see us, as she was with every customer! She was quick with our drinks, orders, refills and special requests. The food was hot and absolutely delicious! The BBQ sauce they use is spicy and packed with flavor, added to the chew of the ham and the sweetness of the tomatoes, the Chubby Checker hit the spot! Grab a side of bacon too, you won't be sorry! I highly recommend Harris Ave Cafe and we'll surely return when we're in the area!
Cindy P — Google review
Wanted to like this place more than we did. Cute, comfortable setting, ample portions, solid selections. However, we found service was disjointed and slow. Didn't appear short-staffed due to COVID, just felt neglected. Over an hour for easy breakfast of four...empty beverages for duration of meal...elongated service gaps. Hopefully we caught on bad day. Too many good factors.
Mark S — Google review
I was looking for the perfect pancake and found it at Harris Avenue Cafe! Cornmeal buttermilk pancakes were perfectly golden and fluffy, and the side of bacon was perfectly crispy. The steak and potatoes my partner had were seasoned well and also spot on. We came early on a Saturday and watched as the little cafe filled up, quite a popular spot! I can see why, as the food was excellent and my coffee cup was never empty. Will definitely be back!

Small diner with bistro chops. My ground sausage and potato hash came with whole garlic cloves that deepened the taste into something more intense and interesting. Connected to an independent coffee shop, so great coffee.

ALERT - The cafe building burned during the early morning hours of 12/17/2023. So sad!!!!!!!! Harris Ave Cafe holds 2nd place for our family among all the breakfast restaurants in Bellingham/Fairhaven. (First is Mount Bakery Fairhaven, but this cafe is a super-close second.) I had an amazing Polenta Rancheros and husband/son loved their Breakfast Chimichangas. I ordered a cornmeal buttermilk pancake, and even though it wasn't fork-pull-tender (haven't found that quality anywhere in Bham) it was fluffier than anywhere else around, and richly flavorful too - didn't even need syrup (though of course I did add some!). The coffee is a nice medium roast and it's very smooth. Our server did a great job of keeping our mugs topped off and provided the perfect level of service and check-ins to see how we were doing. Highly recommended!
Emily G — Google review
I love this place. This is one of my favorite breakfast/brunch places here in Bellingham. They have an incredibly wide and inventive menu (for Bellingham). They have a gorgeous little outside back patio that is so fun to sit on. Their food is so good that I'm able to eat my whole plate which is a pretty big deal right now! I really do want to thank them somehow for that. Hands down favorite restaurant here in Bellingham.

The Daisy Cafe is a charming breakfast and lunch spot with a cozy atmosphere, featuring large windows and warm tones. The menu offers classic options like eggs, pancakes, and sandwiches, as well as unique dishes such as the Chicken Fried Steak. The staff is known for being accommodating to dietary restrictions. Some popular dishes include the Great Northwest Benedict, Twin Sisters, and Cinnamon Orange French Toast. While some visitors enjoyed their meals and found the prices fair, others noted that certain items were greasy.
Nice place to have breakfast, the food is really good we order veggie omelette, boulevard scramble, California frittata and the box car. All of it is really good. Everyone was nice

Ok cafe in downtown Bellingham; cafe atmosphere with free coffee; salads were good but bothered egg dishes (scrambled) we on the drier side
Monem S — Google review
We visited at 8:15 am on a Friday. First the summary: Prices are reasonable for the quantity of food you get (for vegetarian items at least), and most of the items are good enough that we think Daisy Cafe is a worthwhile breakfast spot to put into the rotation. The quality of the items we ordered today varied from excellent to poor, so just keep that in mind when deciding to give them another try if your first experience isn't ideal. Here are the dishes we ordered and our opinions: Veggie eggs benedict: Excellent. Eggs were cooked well (whites firm, yolks runny), the hollandaise sauce was tasty. Galbraith quesadillas (added vegan sausage and subbed fruit salad instead of potatoes): Excellent. A slight crunch in the tortillas, and the filling/pico were very good. Fruit was good except the oranges were unripe. The Cheesie (with biscuit, subbed vegan sausage for the meat): Very good. Not a huge serving size, but the price is low (only $8.50) so worth it. Nice that the biscuit came with raspberry jam, it was yummy. Cinnamon/orange french toast: 3.5 out of 5. I think it should be a little more eggy, and it wasn't hot. But the flavor was very good. Potatoes: 4 out of 5 IF you prefer your potatoes non-crispy and very salty. I liked them, and they are cooked well (not raw in the middle), but they are not seasoned at all except for salt and oil, and they're not browned/crispy. Pancakes: 1 out of 5. Extremely rubbery/chewy, and not hot. We definitely will not be ordering the pancakes again. Staff were friendly and service was excellent (pay at the counter and then sit). Coffee was very good, and a server offered refills at just the right intervals. Overall I'm giving it a 4 because we enjoyed most of the food and we plan to go back at some point. We're very happy that they have a fake meat on offer as a substitute.

There are a couple tables to accommodate wheelchairs & walkers in the little coffee shop connected. This area is quieter experience whereas the restaurant area of two booths and five maybe more table tops, it is very noisy when only two tables are full & it's impossible to hear! It's beautifully well lit and enjoyed ALL THE STAFF & COOKS, wonderful uplifting personalities all of them!!! I love all personality types loud, quiet, colorful, artistic, philosophical, sweet, edgy, simple, complex and here at Daisy Cafe it's a wonderful mixture of amazing people working here!!!!!! They do need an assigned person to do immediate clean up when there's a rush of customers needing their food and such! But with all their ongoing to go orders there's no time for their staff to provide that personal one on one service anymore! Yet they all still do their best to connect with excellent eye contact smiles and share their humor as well as contagious laughter !!! The food is still EXCELLENT because the whole team of Daisy really LOVE being there!!!! I saw all of them non stop cleaning up as well and they all really a well oiled machine of actual human beings with the best OMELET KING CHEF and he's so friendly, seriously fun and a true master of his grill! With a truly genuine kind heartedness that you can taste in every bite of every dish he creates!!!! His female assistant cook was very talkative animated and supportive.

It was our first time in downtown Bellingham and we didnt know where to go so we drove around and found this place. Ate here for brunch on a Saturday. Chicken fried steak and eggs were great but it was greasy, so was the potatoes it came with. Its not even crisp, its almost like its boiled in oil. The hubby had the BLTTA with potatoes. He liked the sandwich very much but also found the potatoes greasy. It didnt bother us that we couldnt eat it as we arent heavy carb eaters but for what we paid, it was not worth it. The little one had the beef dip and kettle chips and she enjoyed both the sandwich and chips. Atmosphere was nice, it was a quiet and homey cafe. The place was not busy but food took about 25 minutes to make. We were worried our parking meter would expire so we took a few bites and ended up packing the food instead. Huge serving and good place to go if you have enough time but we'd probably try other places next time.

Went in by myself, ordered the “Onesie” and it was exactly what I wanted. Service was quick even though it was busy. You can tell the team works well together, at least the Labor Day team. They were a little short today on staffing but hot food was still cranking out of the kitchen. Everyone helped pick up the slack. Great breakfast joint. I would go back.
Noah B — Google review
Had a perfectly pleasant experience at the Daisy Cafe last weekend when visiting Bellingham. Got the biscuits and gravy, and honestly was very happy with the namesake components of the meal. The sausage gravy was tasty and meaty enough where many others are just soup, and the biscuits were fine. However, the eggs were very bland, and the potato’s uninspired. For the price of my meal (22 for the full order including a small glass of oj and tip), it wasn’t great value. A above average experience, but also an above average price. Nice employees though and a bright sunlit dining area!

Nestled in the vibrant Fountain District, Diamond Jim's Grill is a delightful breakfast and lunch spot that serves up hearty American fare in a spacious diner setting. Once located in a cozy triangle-shaped building, this beloved eatery has expanded to accommodate its generous portions, including their famous 10-inch pancakes that nearly take over your plate! The menu boasts an array of mouthwatering options from corned beef hash and egg scrambles to classic BLTs and inventive breakfast burritos.
Great restaurant for breakfast and brunch! The food is amazing, thr service is friendly and attentive, and it has a great vibe with local art and a cozy feel! We got the BBQ Brisket Browns and the Steak and Eggs plates, but got the eggs on my browns insted and substituted for roasted vegtables! They were super nice about the strange order which we did because of dietary restrictions, didn't miss a beat and fully accommodated us. Definitely recommend this restaurant and I will be back!

My bf and son really liked their food. I was unsure about the Benedict, it had a lot of different veggies and kinda spicy. But it was okay none the less.
Marissa M — Google review
I’ve been here a couple times now. The food is good and tastes fresh. I had the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits had a little crunch to them and were delicious. The gravy was a little spicy for my tastes but I think it also had bacon fat which helped the fact it was a little light on sausage. When we visit this area we will come here again.
Scott N — Google review
This is my local favorite cafe for breakfast/brunch. They have, without a doubt, the best homemade biscuits and gravy in Bellingham! Everything they make is homemade from scratch, and it is all delicious. They even make and bottle their own hot sauces! Their location, in the Fountain District neighborhood, is well placed and easy to find, and there is usually plenty of street parking nearby. The staff are friendly and very nice. The owners showcase local artists' work inside, which I really appreciate, and the artwork changes regularly, so there are always interesting new things to see. Would highly recommend Diamond Jim's!!

I hadn’t been to Diamond Jim’s before today, and I was not disappointed! I had the egg scramble with bacon, cheese, tomato, and avocado with a side of hash browns and an English muffin. I did not come close to finishing! The scramble was delicious and was very bacon heavy! My husband got the steak eggs Benedict which he loved. He also really enjoyed their house made hot sauce and I loved their house made berry jam. Will definitely come again!
Mary B — Google review
Ordered one of my favorite breakfast meals -- eggs Benedict. I enjoyed that everything seemed freshly made, but the hollandaise sauce had a vinegar taste. Not too strong, but definitely there. Came with home fries that had bits of burnt pieces of potato in them. All still edible, but with room for improvement.
AK M — Google review
I went here a little after 9 on a Tuesday because I had 50 minutes for breakfast before an appointment. I ordered immediately after sitting at the bar, and it didn't seem too crowded, maybe half full, so I expected fast service. 20 minutes turned into 30 and then almost into 40 minutes. As soon as I got my food I needed to pay and ask for a box since there was no way I was going to eat in less than 10 minutes. I don't blame any of the employees, since it seemed like only 1 server and 1 cook were working at the time and there is only so much 2 people can do. I do blame management for only staffing 2 individuals on a summer morning. Don't try this place if you're looking for a quick breakfast!
Zach T — Google review
The service was slow. We were told we would need to wait about 15 minutes for a table, more like 30. We got seated and finally ordered. The food took for ever. I had a simple meal of eggs over easy, hash browns and toast. The eggs were under cooked, the toast pale, and the hash browns seasoned in such a way that they were more like onions. My wife had a pancake whose flavor was so weird she left most of it. We watched another couple next to us pick at their food, send some back then finally leave with most of the food still on their plates. All in all it took over an hour and a half to get a marginal meal. The staff were friendly an ice and tried, but the speed and competence of the kitchen undermined their best efforts. We won't be returning.

Our friends took us to Magdalena’s for breakfast and it immediately became one of our favorite restaurants. Truly excellent food. We don’t live in Bellingham and every time we come through town we now make a point of stopping here. Every dish we’ve tried has been good. (The #9, the #1 buckwheat crepe, the Turkish cilbir, and the daily soup are special favorites.) The food is filling without being heavy, and tastes fresh and flavorful. Magdalena herself is a dear, and she is attentive and caring to every customer. Her care shines through the food. Don’t miss this place.

Delicious. Perhaps order using the number system provided next to each selection on the menu otherwise, as I did, you might experience a dish you didn't expect. After reviewing the menu again there are three Italian crepes very similarly worded and unduly repetitious for waitstaff to decipher customer intent. The brie and prosciutto apple honey salad crepe is delicious and lighter than the other Italian crepes but next door is a bakery that more than made up for any resultant hunger pangs. If you order from the pierogi menu you will definitely be content with portion though the crispy fresh and perfectly cooked delights are available for take home as well.

Took a Saturday drive up to Fairhaven and found this little gem of a restaurant, Magdalena’s Creperie. Magdalena, the owner, was lovely. The food was delicious, full of flavor and textures. The homemade pierogi’s are a must try. The French press coffee served in a pretty cup also hit the spot.

Awesome, awesome place! I went through the menu yesterday and found many great options of European food and healthy options overall. It's pretty hard to find options for gluten-free crepes for people with gluten intolerance or just wanting a healthier type of the dish. We were happy to see borscht in the menu, and your coffee cups are awesome, remind us of Slavic culture. As well as sittings / atmosphere - it’s cozy and comfortable to spend time at your place, we did not want to leave :) Thank you for everything! It’s easy to see how much love and attention you’ve put into this place.

This morning, my children and I went to the Iron Rooster bakery next door. My children decided to stop and order some crepes. I had purchased a latte next door before this decision. We sat down outside, while we were sitting they wrote a note on a paper and posted it on the door “NO OUTSIDE DRINKS PLEASE!” and they were angry with me. It was a very unpleasant experience on a beautiful Saturday morning. I think it would be a good idea to let go of that when you have costumers at a restaurant. This isn’t something I would normally do but the situation was unique since we had not planned to come to the restaurant. If I were them I would have let this go. I’m not sure what the purpose of the note was and I wonder if they will take it down once we leave.

The crepe portion seemed a tad small for the price but DANG was it good! The ricotta crepes with lavender blueberry compote, berries, and marscarpone cream cheese was delicious. My partner ordered the Porto sandwich and it was amazing. The chimichurri on it was so good. Bread was perfectly toasted and great quality. Salad could have used some more vinaigrette but that's ok.
Denycia H — Google review
We had a wonderful breakfast at Magdalena. Our order included house special crepes, Shakshuka and vegetarian pierogis, all of which were incredible. My partner ordered #4 Savory Crepe which was a miss for him. Service was great! The reason for 4 stars is because we found the drinks to be overpriced. A small glass of fresh orange juice for $7, a small kids hot chocolate for $6.. our bill was nearly $200. Overall, highly recommend for the food!

My go-to creperie since Magdalena opened her doors. Cool decor, plus other menu items with a Polish flair. Outdoor tables in summer.

Restaurant
Arlis's Restaurant is a cozy and popular breakfast and brunch spot in Bellingham, offering a wide range of American favorites. The place has a comfy and relaxed vibe, making it perfect for enjoying a peaceful meal. One of the must-try dishes at Arliss is "The Beast," which has gained a cult following. Customers rave about the perfectly cooked potatoes, light and fluffy pancakes, flavorful hollandaise sauce, and friendly service.
Always great service. Usually busy on weekends. One of my fav places to go for some greasy diner food.
Lauren S — Google review
I do like to come here cause it’s locally owned; waits are usually long for weekends; we had to wait 30 min for food; ice tea was over brewed Eggs Benedict were good and the country potatoes were really good; portions are large so be ready to take some home
Monem S — Google review
Went by myself for a quick breakfast after some friends around town recommended it. Staff was pleasant and obviously used to regulars. Ordered quickly, but was 30 minutes before I got my order of a single Denver omelette ($15). The omelette was not great. The bell pepper wasn't cooked, the ham was cheap chewy pre-cooked cubes and had zero flavor, and cheese was practically non-existent. The home fries on the side tasted like nothing and required pepper and salt. Asked for peanut butter with the included English muffin, not knowing 2tbsp of it would be an added $1.50. Inside was pretty standard old fashioned diner that hasn't been deep cleaned or updated in 30 years. Definitely the kind of place regulars go because they know your name and order. Overall would not recommend, overpriced for the quality you get and how long it takes. Single person bill w/coffee was $22.
Nick R — Google review
Good breakfast/diner experience ! There was no wait for a Sunday breakfast for 4. The cinnamon bun was great (smothered in melted butter, no icing). The Denver omelette and blueberry pancakes were really good. Otherwise very average experience. My friend did not like the country friend steak burrito. Potatoes were also just ok.

Super bland. Lacked seasoning and flavor. Way overpriced. Server was great tho. We should have gone to the horseshoe for a proper diner breakfast
Katherine G — Google review
This morning's breakfast was the best we've had in the longest time. We've always enjoyed the food in the past, but it seems different now in a good way. The potatoes were cooked perfectly, the pancakes were light and fluffy, and everything cooked perfectly. The hollandaise sauce had great flavor and seasoning, the gravy was good, and even better than the food is the service. In all our years of coming here, we have always had good service. The staff is always friendly and sweet. I gave Arlis' a 5 for ambiance because I love that it is an old diner and has retained its charm and vibe. They aren't a new place decorated to be nostalgic. They're authentic and it feels very comfortable being there.

A big group of us meet here for Sunday breakfast sometimes and everything is amazing! The Belgian waffle is GLORIOUS! I wish I could give this place 10 stars! Great food and very kind, attentive staff!
Allie F — Google review
Pretty average diner experience. POG juice was incredible! The food was good, but not EXCEPTIONAL. I was disappointed in the lack of dairy free alternatives. Overall, I enjoyed my bacon waffle. Not sure if I’d return though considering the price, the wait & average taste.

Breakfast restaurant
Horseshoe Cafe, located in Downtown Bellingham, has been a beloved spot since 1886. This easygoing eatery offers a range of hearty comfort food at affordable prices, with breakfast served all day. The cafe is known for its egg sandwiches, cinnamon French toast, and biscuits and gravy - all under $10. It's also home to the oldest continuously operating cafe & cocktail lounge in Washington.
I was expecting lame diner food, as we were only here cause it's the oldest restaurant. But the food was great. Even the tots have effort in them with some herbs and something else in there. I got the chicken fried chicken with a side biscuit and it was banging. Flavorful moist chicken breast with a crispy crust. Queso is passable, but I grew up in Texas so I am pretty biased.
Chris C — Google review
We came here to see the place. It was very nice. Everyone one was very nice and the food was very good. The bloody Mary was awesome. We had chicken fried chicken and eggs, and one had chicken and waffles. They were busy but took very good care of us. Yes I would recommend this place. The only downside is trying to find parking.
Tamala R — Google review
Ordered the breakfast burrito even if it’s evening. I am always on the hunt for a good breakfast burrito. This one didn’t disappoint. Eggs, sausage, hash brown, and some special sauce with a kick wrapped in a burrito. Ordered a Pepsi too. Not a fan of the paper straws. Interior has a classic old town vibe to it. It is in the middle of downtown Bellingham after all. Cool picture frames and merchandise on the walls. The PRIDE flag might suggest they may be left leaning and might be hostile to law enforcement or religious people. I think businesses should at least pretend to be politically neutral. The server took awhile to get to me. But the food is still worth it.
Blue S — Google review
Delicious food. Trendy venue. Hostess was a little short manored; we were greeted with "how many in your party, just letting you know its going to be over 30 min for your food". Waitress was kind. Food is worth every calorie, so yummy! Will definitely be back
Alicia T — Google review
Wonderful food. Great service. Fun atmosphere. Lots of history on the walls.
Jamie S — Google review
My wife and I come into the Horseshoe occasionally. She loves the Biscuits and Gravy, I like the coffee. In 37yrs I have never once heard a negative word about this cozy little joint. The customer service is on point every time and not bad looking either. The atmosphere is like that old worn sweater that you just can't throw out and why would you when it's so comfortable. So if you find yourself downtown you're hungry, thirsty, cold or lonely come on in, pull up a chair and prepare to leave happy.
Anthony S — Google review
I was so exited to go based off of the pictures. The food was good but the restaurant looks a lot different than pictures. Not very clean smells like cigs and the waitresses look a pretty unclean. Definitely needs a little upgrade/cleaning.

Father and myself had the smash burger and it was in my mind a solid 7.5-10, very good meat and the secret sauce was great. The best part was the Garlic Parm Tator tots, the best thing on the menu in my mind.

Hilltop Restaurant & Catering is a delightful spot that promises an enjoyable dining experience for everyone. With generous portion sizes and friendly service, it’s the perfect place to gather with family or friends. Diners rave about their delicious breakfast options, like fluffy biscuits paired with rich maple syrup and perfectly cooked eggs. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it ideal for a leisurely meal before starting your day.
I love going here, I’ve always gotten their chicken fried steak it’s cooked immaculately every time- today though I got the BLT club with a cup of clam chowder and a cranberry mimosa. I’m picky about my clam chowder and it is so thick and savory oh my god. 😩 This is the perfect place to take your wife and kids, staff is friendly- food comes out promptly, music is good, location is nice for anyone trying to get morning food before taking on the day off the guide.

Good eatery with friendly staff and good food. Selection in menu is pretty standard and food didn’t take long to come out. What took a long time however, was our coffee at the beginning but it’s not that big of a deal. Bathroom was clean too. Overall, I’d recommend this place for breakfast or brunch.
Alika S — Google review
Great meals and very affordable. My eggs are cooked perfectly to its finest. Harsh brown is about the right level of crispiness. My milkshake is very creamy and smoothie.

Love this place! Non pretentious but delightfully good! Great selection of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner! The service is always warm and friendly!
Enoch G — Google review
I've tried to get the crab cake Benedict two times now, each time the eggs were hard as a rock, then by the time the eggs came the cakes were ruined. Their cooks must not care about their culinary skills one bit. This will be my last trip to the hilltop and I've been coming here for decades. Leaving here hungry today again.

I had an omelette here one morning not long ago. I found the food to be fantastic! The atmosphere was pleasant and family friendly. The service was excellent as well. If you decide to eat here don’t forget to see what they have done with the light post out front. You can see it to the left in the photo. It’s sure to please all ages! I hope you have as enjoyable of an experience as I surely did! 😀
Rob B — Google review
Good portion sizes, great service, and a great atmosphere make this place a good experience. I had the biscuits and gravy 2 hard eggs, bacon and a pancake. The biscuits were soft and fresh, the country gravy was good but the sausage in it was basically bland and tasteless it was so mild. The eggs cooked to perfection and the pancake was large and filling. My favorite part was the maple syrup... it was rich and buttery rather than overly sweet like so many maple syrups can be. The server was smiling and energetic though busy. She was attentive and prompt. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful in an open floor plan with a bar in the center. I recommend this place. I want to go back and try the lunch menu next.

I was impressed. This place is lacking on the decor but more than makes up for it with the food and service. When I went they were slow and the service was instant, my breakfast was impressive. I was expecing less but got more. The potatoes were a little heavy on the seasoning but it was in a nice way if you know what I mean. I would go again if I was in the area and I would bring friends.

Average wait time, and delicious food. The small potato pieces were well seasoned and the French toast was tasty.
S S — Google review
I don't usually write negative reviews , but felt led to just due to the extreme waste of time. I waited 42 minutes for my order, and very sadly had to walk out without ever eating. I never got my food, never even saw it. To give them credit, the place was at about 80% when I first walked in, but all the reviews said that they were very good with really fast service, so I thought I'd still give it a try. The staff seemed friendly enough as well. After having waited 30 minutes I was getting antsy and was ready to walk out, and I guess it was noticed because the lady that took my order came up to me and told me that my food would be ready in just a minute. After waiting another 12 minutes that never happened. Add to this the fact that the place was now down to about 20% occupancy. I turned to the guy sitting behind me and asked him if he ate here often and he said yes. Then I asked him if it was normal to wait 42 minutes for your food, and he said absolutely not, that they were usually really fast, so I just chalked it up as a very very bad first visit. Due to having burned up all of my brunch time sitting there I had to leave, and I was extremely bummed to have left VERY hungry. What made things a bit more irritating for me, was that I told whom I "think" was the owner (that took my order), that this was my first time here, and I had read some really good reviews on them, and was looking forward to finding another great Diner to eat at" ....
David K — Google review
Had the corn beef hash and over easy eggs. Huge portion and it was quite delicious. The coffee was great too. Good service. Glad we popped in as we travelled through the area.

This is one of our favorite breakfast spots in Bellingham. This little gem in South Bellingham never disappoints us. Breakfasts prices are fair with big helpings. You never wait long to be addressed by someone once you come in. Very friendly people, excellent service and food all within a mom and pop atmosphere that is pleasant and clean. If you haven't branched out to find this great little eatery....you should.
Sharman B — Google review
My husband and I are getting stationed in Alaska. We wanted to eat but was unsure if we wanted breakfast or wait til lunch. I am glad we chose breakfast although they have more than breakfast. Food was made to order. DELICIOUS!!!! Hot!!! Service was great as well. Environment was clean and friendly. I am sometimes hard to please but this place started me out right! Thank you
Rebecca F — Google review
Feels like you're with family! The folks running this place are really nice and the menu was "just right" for that "diner feel", you know the kind where they serve food they're good at preparing and you can get whatever you want whenever they're open. You don't want to be in a place that has a 10-page menu that they can't do anything often enough to do it really well. Our group had a variety of food. Some had breakfast (a traditional bacon/eggs as well as one order of biscuits/gravy & egg) Very tasty and hot. The rest of us had lunch. The club sandwich with fries had lots of delicious ham and turkey. The "B.A.L.T." (or as it's called in California, "BLAT") is a BLT with added Avocado. If you've never had it this way, you should try it. Avocado is a perfect addition to this sandwich. I had the house potato salad, which I really liked but my wife hates onions in PS, so if you don't like onions, stick with the french fries.
Daniel S — Google review
It's a pretty nice diner for late at night. The food was good, just be cautious around there when you are there late. When we went there there was some guy continuously come back in, and from the sounds of it he wasn't really a customer. Other than that, the staff was nice as well.
