Bar
Located in the heart of Montevideo, Baar Fun Fun is a historic bar that has been operating since 1895. It offers a unique blend of live tango performances, delicious cocktails, and a lively atmosphere. The bar is known for its vintage lighting and soulful tango music that creates an atmosphere of camaraderie and revelry. It's a popular spot for locals and tourists to enjoy uvita shots and experience the classic South American vibe.
Baar Fun Fun is a great place to go for a night out with friends. The atmosphere is fun and lively, and the staff is friendly and attentive. The drinks are also very good, and there is a wide selection to choose from. I would definitely recommend checking this place out if you are looking for a fun and enjoyable night out.

What a fun place! I went on my own as traveling solo, I had a fantastic time. It's a place for locals although there were a lot of tourists too. Singers, tango dancers, live band all top!
Sarita C — Google review
Watched a tango show here and must say it was absolutely great..nice venue and brilliant dancers..thoroughly enjoyed it thank you
Dilberts D — Google review
This is a Must when in Montevideo. Reserve a table and enjoy a wonderful show. I would suggest to have dinner somewhere else. I honestly hated all I ate here. But The show which is why I was there for was wonderful and the staff was great.
Mala R — Google review
Fantastic. The tango trio did a marvelous performance. Of course bought their T- shirt and liquor glasses. They were very hospitable. Tango girls and their partner included the audience and danced with them. If you are in this city, this is a must.
Anil K — Google review
I absolutely love this place. Music might be a bit loud and prices a bit high but the stories behind this bar are endless. Don't forget to try "Uvita", the local drink and enjoy the evening watching Tango.
Patricio R — Google review
So amazing professional tango dancer at Uruguay, so amazing experience in this Fun Fun House . Small restaurant but very great dancer . I am so enjoy to see the tango show there

Tapas bar
Bar
Baker's Bar is a local hotspot located at Pablo de Maria 1198, offering classic and signature cocktails created by the passionate cantinero Santiago Urquhart. The bar also houses Republica Rotiseria, led by chef Mauricio Olivieri and pastry chef Florencia Tassino, serving up delicious sandwiches like the Olimpico and indulgent desserts such as profiteroles with lemon curd and white chocolate.
If you can only visit one cocktail bar in Montevideo, this should be it. Expertly crafted cocktails by Rodrigo and the team. Incredibly warm staff. This is my favorite place in Montevideo.
Bart B — Google review
Delicious cocktails and super friendly staff! Kind enough to let me practice my Spanish, and yet they were ready to move to English when I maxed out my vocabulary. We’ve been in Montevideo for a week and have already gone back :)
Alexia P — Google review
Wow! Been living in Uruguay for 6 months, and this is hands down the best cocktail bar around! The best dirty martinis and some creative drinks indeed. Bartender Dani was awesome! Bar food is good and creative. Loved every bite. Can’t wait for Pulpo-Bar de Pastas to open next door! (Got a sampling tonight and was totally impressed). Thank you Tavis (Wine Explorers Uruguay) for the great recommendation!
Luis R — Google review
Note: this was a fun bar but very average, like any other corner bar. I am shocked this is considered one of the top bars in Latin America. The music was so loud that you couldn't think. The owner kept changing the song every minute, not letting a lot of the songs play all the way through. The bar felt dirty and like it had a tough 2 years. The drinks were fine but not worth what they cost. They had really nice ice for the drinks, that was a great touch. The staff seemed more interested in themselves having a good time than working (which i definitely understand but the drinks weren't cheap and with how subpar the environment already, it made me feel like I was an intrusion as a guest)
Campbell H — Google review
This bar has great drinks, a great atmosphere, and the best staff. My wife and I had a blast here. I will definitely come back. They’re awesome.
Christian C — Google review
The bartenders were amazingly kind, the cocktails were top notch. Would fly back to Montevideo just to center a trip around Baker’s
Steven K — Google review
Sort of a Montevideo staple for creative drinks and yummy tapas. Seems reliably crowded on most evenings, though we got there around 9PM and were able to score a table easily. Gets most crowded around midnight-1AM, which is when they turn up the music inside. Great for a pregame or even as a going out destination.
Bruno R — Google review
Visa debit and credit doesn't work, despite having a visa sticker on the door. We had burgers which were alright but nothing to write home about. Staff were nice but I wouldn't recommend this place to tourists. The food is average and you can't get the 22% foreign tax refund

Bar
Bar Tabaré, originally a general store turned fisherman's bar over a century ago, has become a popular meeting place for Montevideo's creative crowd. The cozy bistro-like space with exposed wood and additional seating on a mezzanine level offers an intimate setting to enjoy their innovative regional cuisine.
A Time Capsule for the days when this neighborhood has a jail and people had no idea how much it could change in 100 years. That, and super delicious food. I loved that I got to read the Chef’s name in the menu. Hats off to her, Elsa Paulet. We order fish miniatures, a table of ham, cheese and olives and Tabaré’s Provolone. Plus we had a drink with tonic, lime and mint and daiquiri. All incredible, tasty and enough for us 4. Finally we order a “Mango Package”. A super intriguing dessert that ended up being out-of-this-world. Very original, tasty and not to sweet so I could have asked for 5 of the same. Incredible. The show we went to listen to we loved, two great singers taking us back in time with CCR, Queen, and much more. The staff was super polite, fast and very attentive. And the hosts very welcoming and loved sharing the place’s story with us in vivid detail. Prices weren’t cheap but not too expensive considering the neighborhood. We’ll be definitely coming back when there’s another show!
Emilia G — Google review
We only had drinks here, but it was a very nice little spot. The service was wonderful and it seemed like people were regulars there and gave off a very friendly neighbourhood vibe.
Heidi R — Google review
Classy old-time establishment in Punta Carretas Montevideo with a real local vibe. Excellent drink and wine selection coupled with friendly service.
E. F — Google review
Excellent cuisine in a very popular and busy restaurant. Attentive service. Reservations are a must. Great ambiance.
Phil — Google review
Great food, lovely staff, and charming ambiance. We really liked this place and my pork steak with fried leeks and sweet potatoes was one of the best meals I’ve had. Rich flavorful sauce and everything was cooked to perfection. A go-to in Montevideo.
K B — Google review
I loved this place! It's a small and comfortable place, the food was delicious and the wine chosen by the attendant was wonderful. The service was affectionate and familiar. I recommend it and for sure will return to this place! Thank you guys! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Helen Z — Google review
I was there for dinner with friends, and we were rushed all the time by an impatient, arrogant server. We were paying top prices for our dishes but we were treated much worse than at a fast food place. In other words, atrocious service. The food? I wanted my steak rare but they overcooked it and it was dry and chewy, the rest just mediocre. There are much better dining options in the Punta Carretas area.
Eytán S — Google review
Great bar, food and atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and fed us a bit earlier because our baby was hungry. Don’t forget to try their delicious beer: Cream Ale from Cafe Tabare.

Bar
La Ronda is a popular spot among the locals in Montevideo, known for its hip atmosphere and waterfront views. The bar features outdoor seating perfect for people-watching, while inside, the walls adorned with old album covers create a unique ambiance. The Mexican food served here is highly recommended, and the music adds to the nostalgic vibe with dated tunes matching the LPs on display. Visitors praise the Hungarian goulash and pork skewers as delicious options from their menu.
We had the goulash and pork skewers they were delicious. The staff was really friendly.
Christine B — Google review
La Ronda is the kind of small, unpretentious gem that Anthony Bourdain would’ve stumbled into on a slow afternoon—and never wanted to leave. It hums with a mellow, retro-cool vibe that’s accessible and welcoming to all. The music (easily the best in Montevideo and top 5 for any dive worldwide) is thoughtfully chosen by an actual person who knows better. The food is tasty, unfussy, and thankfully offers selections that branch beyond the ubiquitous Montevideo menu. The drink selection is wieldy with 3 beers on draft backed by a well-curated set of bottles and mixed drinks. The staff? The kind of people who treat you like a regular before you’ve finished your first beverage. All of this at a price as refreshing and unpretentious as the place itself.
Blake F — Google review
beautiful patio near the square. the servers were very friendly, and I had a delicious Hungarian goulash.
Brandon Z — Google review
The best hungarian goulash I ever had. And I grew up in Hungary! My daugher had cheese and ham. Simple, but perfect! Great Mojito. Nice service, beautiful at sunset. And very pleasant music too. Good value for money in Montevideo!
Julia P — Google review
Great bar, good vibe, live music sometimes and cheap drinks.

Bar
Jackson Bar, more of a club than a traditional bar, is known for its lack of a queue system. Instead, there's usually a crowd of people vying for the attention of an arrogant bouncer who seems to play favorites when letting people in. Despite this, the place offers late-night junk food like 'Gramajo' and transforms into a dance club with two different atmospheres on each floor. It's recommended to arrive by 1 am to avoid long queues later in the night.
Quite nice place to crave some late night junk foods (we loved "Gramajo"!) and this place conveniently turn into a dance club. It got 2 floors and each with different environment. We were lucky we entered at 12:30am with no queue at all, because by the time we left at 4am there's was a looong queue to get in! So I'd suggest you to get in by 1am.
Misaki — Google review
I have a deep dissatisfaction with my recent experience at Jackson bar. Despite your claims that entry is reserved for those with prior reservations, I was denied access for reasons that were both unprofessional and discriminatory. To my dismay, the doorman’s behavior was rude and unhelpful. He failed to communicate effectively, and his conduct appeared unprofessional—possibly influenced by intoxication. Worse still, I was under the impression that I was not allow to enter due to being from the United States, which I find deeply troubling and unacceptable. I hope that you take this feedback seriously and address the issues related to both customer service and discriminatory behavior.
Abraham M — Google review
This bar doesn’t deserve even a star! I had a disappointing experience at this bar. Despite claiming to operate on reservations only, they denied entry because we were foreigners. We live in Miami and two girls alone are allowed to entry at any bar or disco everyone but Uruguay!
Dali L — Google review
A fun night out, and you can reserve a table for your group of friends and start the night with dinner, then drinks and then dance club. As a bar I don't think it's a good option, and the food is not that great. The drinks are OK. The installations are good for a dance club, and it's an option in Montevideo if you want nightlife... But don't have high hopes, expect an OK, mildly fun night out.
Federico H — Google review
Over all a big place, good music with different ambients, good drink, fair prices but I was not a fan, at 2 am the server started picking everything up, even the plates that still had food, without asking... So I asked, why are you taking my plates? She said kitchen is closing. Apparently it. Doesn't matter if your are. Finish with your appetizers or not.
Hugo P — Google review
This is the worst Bar I have seen. They just want to steal money from customers. We were 15 friends entered 10 PM in bar, we waited for 4 hours to dance. When we started dancing some of our friends just came out to smoke and they did not allow us to enter back saying we are drunk. Don't waste your money to go in Jackson Bar
Mrigendra R — Google review
Right at the entrance, the security stoped me for wearing shorts (what year is this?). After checking out that it is ok to entry with shorts (!), they required me to take out my ear reamer before entering. I've never experienced that before any other place I have been to in my entire life, I really don't recommend Jackson and I surely won't ever return
Darlan F — Google review
There are racist . If you are not from Uruguay, you can not enter. I stayed 1 hour waiting and they don't let enter tourist girl or man . We dressed very good and not drunk . Very bad image of Uruguay

Restaurant
Café Misterio, located in Montevideo, has been a pioneer in the area for its innovative culinary offerings. It was the first to introduce a sushi bar back in 1994, which has now become a permanent fixture on their menu. The café prides itself on maintaining traditional flavors while also incorporating new influences such as Peruvian tiraditos.
My wife and I ate at Cafe Misterio tonight for our final meal in Uruguay before traveling back to the United States. It was also our wedding anniversary that we were celebrating. The service was absolutely wonderful. Even though our Spanish was very limited, everyone was kind, welcoming, and made our dinner experience most memorable. Thank you Cafe Misterio and thank you to our lovely waitress. 5 stars all the way!!!

Andrew M — Google review
Interesting and creative food, just not overly well executed. Nothing bad, but nothing impressed.
Dan P — Google review
The Misterio Ribeye was cooked to a perfect medium, and the first bite revealed a burst of smoky and robust flavors. The seasoning was unique, with a blend of herbs and spices that added a layer of complexity to the steak. The meat itself was tender and juicy, offering a delightful dining experience that kept me engaged with every bite.

The restaurant Expreso Pocitos is a classic and beloved diner-style establishment that has been around for more than a century. The food is good, and it is convenient because it is close to many locations.
Food was excellent and quite affordable. Server was patient given our limited language proficiency. Nice, casual atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Good neighborhood diner offering Uruguayan classics with reasonable prices. The Chivito Canadiense sandwich came with a mountain of french fries that can feed two or three. The sandwich itself is nothing special. Will probably return to try other food on the menu.
Pierre M — Google review
My husband and I stopped in here for breakfast early on a Saturday morning. The service was prompt and friendly. The menu includes a few vegetarian options. We both had sandwiches and coffee drinks. The atmosphere was lovely and quiet.
Robbin D — Google review
Service was slow, the civito meat tasted good, the fries were cold, the potato salad was tasteless. Worst part was when we paid the server added a tip without asking or telling us, or showing us the total on the machine. Seems dishonest and unethical to do that
Ansar A — Google review
Have had hot chocolate a couple of times here. Yesterday the service was slow and this can be improved .We were served hot chocolate without the chocolate and had to wait about 15-20 mins for them to provide the chocolate to be added to the milk . The fish starter is good and worth trying .
Christine P — Google review
Fulfilling breakfast. Nice staff. just wished the orange juice portion was a bit larger.
Altaf R — Google review
Just terrible and I wish I could give 0 stars. Here is why: 1. They don’t respect the line. Apparently the line is only for the main section, not the side 2. Our server did not know the menu or clean the tables. People sat in dirty tables for at least 15 minutes. 3. We ordered the chicken milanesa and got “meat.” When I mentioned it, he simply said “yeah it’s meat,” and walked away. No apology or anything. 4. The other server that seemed decent at the job, would scold our server about tending to his tables but not help. 5. Overpriced for flavorless, garbage food. The only positive was that we got a free coffee (which wasn’t that great anyways) but the man at the register did apologize.

Montevideo al Sur Bar is a historic fish restaurant in Montevideo, Uruguay, owned by chef Roberto Connio. Despite its meat-centric culture, the restaurant offers a unique seafood dining experience. The cozy and relaxed atmosphere with outdoor seating and live jazz music on Mondays makes it a popular spot. While some visitors found the food to be just okay, others praised the variety of drinks and excellent service. It's recommended to make reservations for Jazz Mondays due to limited space.
What a great find! Super friendly and courteous staff, attention to detail (we saw one of the staff inspecting each washed glass to check it was fully clean) and great cocktails! What more can one ask for?!

Perfect little neighborhood place. I stopped in for a quick lunch and had the best hot ham and cheese I've ever had. No, seriously. The bread was like French toast. The cheesy was gooey and the ham filled the bread from edge to edge. The servers were friendly, and the atmosphere was chill. And to update...I went back a second time and everything was just as good.

Place was recommended but did not live up to cost or hype. I thought it would have a unique menu according to the travel book but it was just your standard UY food and c the drinks were nothing special. The place was completely empty. I ordered a poke bowl which came with no sauce (described with sauce). It was plain and very expensive. I was there at 8pm so there should have been other people. I laughed when I was asked if I had reservations.

Slow service. The waiter almost left without taking my order. If I hadn’t spoken up, they would’ve. The chivito wasn’t very good, the milanesa was okay, and the fish was fine. Prices should be lower based on quality and service.

its not so bad but far away from good. It has a good location and friendly waitress. Food wasnt so special but the portions are big. The meat was harder and I would say older. Prices are higher like in all restaurants in Montevideo. I probably wont choose it again.

The legacy of this place is gone. No matter how beautiful the interior may be, it cannot make up for the poor service. The waiters are painfully slow and spend most of their time chatting with one another instead of attending to guests. The barista is completely incompetent — he cannot make a proper coffee, and by the time it is finally served, it’s already cold. It’s truly sad to see that the oldest coffee shop in town has been ruined by such an unprofessional and indifferent staff

We can’t say anything about the food as we only dropped by for a coffee and to enjoy the ambiance which was as expected very enjoyable. The coffee was good and strong. The service was friendly. Some clients were eating and they appeared to be enjoying their meals. Yes we would return and would recommend.

This is probably the cafe anyone has to visit when in Montevideo. It is the oldest cafe in Montevideo with at least a century's worth of history. You be amazed by the interior decor when you walk into the cafe, it feels like a time machine which has brought you back in time. I was actually there wanting to try some mains but was there too early they only served the breakfast menu. Ordered a toast and a lemon pie with tea. The toast portion is a little small thought glad I had a pie and it was delicious. Enjoyed my brunch slowly while taking my time chilling in the cafe and looking out the glass panes watching the world go by. Food is good and prices are relatively reasonable. Recommended.

Negroni is a restaurant and cocktail bar that embodies the fusion of Italian and New York spirits, located in Buenos Aires. The establishment offers a diverse menu featuring bistro-style dishes such as gourmet burgers, salads, and an array of sushi options. The sushi selection stands out for its emphasis on enhancing the natural flavors of the ingredients with various dressings, resulting in bold and harmonious combinations.
Best restaurant around the area! The servers are super nice and attentive, the food is delicious and the dessert are amazing (we tried the chocolate mousse and the Dulce de Leche Volcano). Their drinks taste really good, they have the autentic Peruvian Pisco Sour (which we love) and the specialty drinks were my favorites! We went back three nights in a row! 100% worth it! Ps: our servers were Santiago and Marcelo and they’re 10 out of 10!

Very pretty spot. Sushi is good but not amazing. The nigiri i definitely recommend, but a lot of the rolls have a lot of additives like sauce and cream cheese which distracts.

Service and atmosphere were really nice. Was a big negative to watch the sushi cook cough into his hands several times without washing them. If you like salmon this is the place. If you don’t like salmon, well, for sushi there are no other choices really.

The place is cool but the food is even better, The first time I tried scallops and it was so tasty. Everything was Great.
EVERALDO A — Google review
This restaurant is good but the service was lacking. I have been to the location in Miami, USA and so I was excited to come try this one out. The atmosphere and food lived up to the reputation as to what I had enjoyed in the Miami location but the service needed to be much better. The waitress didn't come to our table for probably 20 mins after we were seated, she took our order and someone else would bring our food and she would not check on us. I had to ask for more water from other waiters 2-3 times because I couldn't find our waitress even though it is a small restaurant. The other waiters also could see that I was trying to find my waitress but they didn't ask if I needed help. Overall, the food was really good, the presentation of the food was great, the cocktails were good and the atmosphere was great as well. I hope I can go back and the service is better but it is disappointing to have everything be so good and to have poor, slow service from the entire staff make the experience not great.

If you want really bad would like to be Japanese food paired with lame service, then this is the place to go to. The soya seemed to be a black sauce that from the tase was more like balsamic vinegar than the real thing. One of the roles had cream cheese in it, this might be local, but it sure ain’t Japanese. The best thing we had was the salmon sashimi - guess you can’t not do much wrong here. I will not go there again.

The glass they offered me was dirty and smelled like mold. Also? I accidentally went to Men’s room and saw the cook use the bathroom and walk out without washing his hands. We’re so glad we found Baco Vino y Bistro on Christmas Eve when nearly everywhere else was closed for the holiday. Their wine selection is absolutely fantastic, and while the food was decent overall, there’s some room for improvement, especially with the chicken dish. Came here for dinner with a couple of friends, and were unfortunately very very disappointed! Asides from the extremely small and low quality portions of food, most things didn’t even come as described.. We ordered the duck (which with the cost of 1500, came with maybe half a breast.. ridiculous!), the Sea bass (3 little bites, not the filet we were expecting), the steak tartare was just ground up beef, and the Ravioli (which was actually nice seasoned) was so over cooked that it was like eating mashed potatoes.. I would’ve gladly rated it a 1 star, but the Creme brule at the end was tasty :) In short, you don’t get what you paid for. food is mediocre and overpriced, it’s a big restaurant that had next to no atmosphere, service was fair.

If there’s one spot you need to eat at in the city - this is it. No disrespect to Montevideo, but why are you anti seasoning? When I tell you, every spot we ate at had bland food as nothing had salt or pepper or any other spice for that matter. After 2 days of having disappointing meals, we ended up here hoping to the powers that be that we would finally have good food. Hallelujah First off, the service was stupendous. Everything we ordered were recs from the women working who were all super chill and friendly. I got the omelette which ironically was the best meal I had in the city. We loved our meal here so much we went inside to buy swag. My only souvenir from Montevideo were the goodies I got from here. Vamos arriba

The café was overall a pleasant experience. I really enjoyed the Vietnamese coffee, which was well-prepared and flavorful. However, the matcha was not up to the mark. My friend tried the brisket sandwich and found it very good. I ordered the Shakshuka, but it turned out to be quite average. On the positive side, the location is excellent—right by the port—making it a convenient and nice spot for tourists to stop by.

The Living Bar in Montevideo, Uruguay is a popular spot for expats seeking an urban lifestyle with a variety of dining, entertainment, and cultural experiences. The city's 77 square miles and 62 neighborhoods offer diverse options for residents. The bar itself offers a great atmosphere indoors and charming outdoor seating on the sidewalk. While it features what seems to be a dance floor, it may not always be open.
This place really caters for everybody. They have a restaurant and pub upstairs that stays open till 5am. People were dancing and singing along to the music in the pub, it was a great atmosphere. After 10pm the tables become limited for those who want to eat. There is an EDM/ Techno Dance-floor that opens at 1am and stays open till around 6am. You pay for entry to the underground dance-floor, 300uyu$ if you pay per card. Special shoutout to Christian and Johanna, the best bartenders! They have great characters and make the bar a special place. Thanks guys!

According to their Google profile, they were open when we checked at 19:00. When we arrived, they were not open. Then, according to their website, they're opening at 21:00 currently because of covid, so we waited around and did other things until 21:00, and they were still not open. So we waited around until their normal opening time, 23:00, walked over at 23:15, and were stopped from entering, and told to wait another 5 minutes. It's not difficult to update your hours on your website or on Google. You made us waste our time, and miss one of the things we most wanted to do on our trip to Montevideo.
Laddie W — Google review
I had a very weird experience. We went in and they gave us a form that you need to use for drinks and return as proof of payment on your way out (which is typical in some countries of Latin america) upon entering we realized the club was not up to our expectations and decided to leave within 1 minute. The front door would not let us leave until we paid, but the cashier would not charge us for the "minimum consumption" because she didn´t have the register open yet. We were willing to pay for the minimum consumption even though we didn´t consume and stayed less than a minute, but they would not collect. We went back and forth between the door people and the cashiers (and coat check who was holding our coast hostage). They were incredibly rude and tried to force us to stay until they opened the register but had no ETA. I asked to either charge us or let us go and one of the door men opened his chest in clear threat of physical violence. I grabbed my phone and threatened to call the police as they cannot deprive us of our physical freedom and they finally let us go. I regret not calling the police anyway as their minimum charge to get out is technically a form of ransom which I´m sure it has to be illegal. In any case, I just wanted to pay and get out. Note: I´m a native Spanish speaker. There was no confusion on what was going on.

Great outdoor stop. Great experience. Some reviewers said its expensive and they dont speak English. Excellent food and, for the area, at a very reasonable price. Apparently the menu changes daily. I enjoyed the baguette with smoked salmon. If I went again, I'd definitely order something from the stovetop, since the entire seating area is just the bar and they cook everything right behind it. It was interesting to watch them cook just meters away, and I was a bit envious that I hadn't ordered something that I'd get to see cooked. I also ordered the creme brulee dessert, which was not my all-time favorite but was still very good and also prepared in view. Definitely recommend this place.

Couldn’t find this place - may be closed. Copacobana next door had to suffice… Update: OK, so in spite of the snarky reply I decided to swing by and see what I missed. Indeed, Estrecho is there - pretty close to where Google maps has it. Best I can tell it was boarded up when I was looking for it the other day (Google indicated it should be open) due to “Tourism Week”. As such I decided to give it a try wondering if the service was going to be as edgy as the owners reply and was pleasantly surprised by the friendly service, good food, and nice ambience. Los Leños is a popular dining spot in Montevideo known for its local fare, wood-burning oven specialties, and limited bar offerings. The restaurant features a relaxed setting with brick walls and art, creating a trendy atmosphere. The menu offers carefully prepared meat, seafood, pasta, risotto dishes, and a variety of gnocchi options to cater to different tastes. Additionally, the busy bar serves an extensive cocktail list and a selection of local and Argentine wines.
A typical 'parrilla' with a twist of thinking in modern gastronomy: sweetbread with a Dijon mustard sauce, a tender feed lot asado, the greens salad with a good assortment. Above all, service is above standard, either for table, plates and wines. Nice warm decoration. Good prices. Commends for our waiter, Brian!

I went because the photos of the restaurant were beautiful, but I was underwhelmed. Went for a business meeting after a colleague recommended this place. Was not disappointed at all! Appetizers were delicious. Especially the spinach fritters and lamb empinadas. The pizza was tasty and the crust baked perfectly in the brick oven. While the waiter didn't ask us how we wanted our steaks cooked, they were done to perfection. The side salad was fresh, delicious and plenty to share. We didn't have any room for dessert but I'm sure they are great as well. Definitely a great place for dinner.

We absolutely loved this restaurant. Located not far away from Montevideo main square it is cosy, nicely styled and has a bit of a tropical feel to it thanks to big plants and wickeres chairs. The place also has a small bar area and there are several cocktails on the drink menu. The food is really very delicious, every meal we ordered was a success, especially the octopus starter and the steak from the mains. Attention: portions are huge! Highly recommended! We would love to be back again and try some other dishes from the menu.

My fiancé and I took a trip to South America and couldn't believe our luck when we walked in to Los Leños. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the overall ambience of the place was inviting and aesthetically beautiful. Whether you spring for a glass of wine or an original cocktail (or maybe both!) you can't go wrong as their bartenders are always on point. Highly recommend the octopus entree (pulpo), and the ribeye steak! Both expertly cooked with gorgeous presentation. Funny story, I actually left my phone at the bar after dinner (wine + a cocktail, whoops), and Emmanuel went above and beyond to find us on Facebook to return it to me. When we came back the next day to pick it up, we stayed at the bar (naturally) for a drink, and Nicolas provided us with stellar service and great recommendations for house-crafted drinks and other activities around the city. This lively establishment hosts live music performances every night, featuring an eclectic mix of genres such as Celtic music, jazz, funk, soul instrumental, blues, and rock. The pub offers an extensive selection of both national and imported beers, including artisanal varieties, along with a range of cocktails and whiskeys.
One of the best Irish Bars in Montevideo. It always has the best music. The prices are really affordable and the service is spectacular, all the people that work there make you feel at home.
Helu G — Google review
I didn’t find this place particularly friendly & welcoming. It felt like it was a bit of a hassle for them to serve me, so I left after just one beer. I was charged £11.50…£8.50 for the beer, and £3 cover charge for the musician...so very expensive! I’d expected an Irish bar to be a bit more welcoming…maybe I caught it on an off-night…
Stuart M — Google review
Cool irish pub in downtown Montevideo, good food selection and heaps of beer to choose from, live music as well some nights
Bruce W — Google review
Extremely unfriendly owner/staff. Also, the Uruguayan stout was ok, but you can’t claim “Irish Pub” status and not have Guiness on draft. Thats blasphemous!
Milad J — Google review
Atmosphere was nice, staff was friendly and food was OK. If you're going to replicate an Irish pub and serve fish & chips, it would be nice to have malt vinegar.
Kyle B — Google review
Considering how far this place is from Ireland they had a fantastic amount if decoration and memorabilia. We went in on a quiet night but the ambience was still there. Not entirely sure what it was we were given pints of due to language barrier but it was decent nonetheless.

Great music! Great service! Great People!
Mary L — Google review
It has some good options of craft beers, both bottled and on tap. As many things in the old city, it's pricey. Because of that, we didn't have the opportunity to try any food. Anyway, the pub seems like a nice place for happy hours and to listen some live music.

Nestled in the vibrant Palermo neighborhood, CandyBar is a charming corner bar that has transformed from a quaint local store into a trendy hotspot. With its eclectic decor featuring mismatched lampshades and movie memorabilia, this cozy spot exudes an indie film vibe. Although it has limited seating and doesn’t take reservations, arriving early ensures you can savor their renowned potato omelette and other delightful dishes.
The best value for money that I’ve seen in Uruguay. They have various “dish of the day” options at around 700 or 800 UYU, it’s an appetizer and entree like what you’d get at maybe a four star restaurant. Friendly staff, shady and delightful outdoor dining (weather permitting). I suppose the portion sizes could be slightly larger but it’s very filling and really what you’re getting is the subtle recipes, this is a big surprise if you thought it was just a diner or a coffee shop (although it’s on some lists of “best coffeehouses of Montevideo.” I’m told they do tapas in the evenings.

The neighbourhood needs more places like this. Not just places that are open (haha!) but cute, health conscious, trendy places that boost the overall aesthetic of the community. Got the hummus and a veggie toasty thing which were both yummy. My date enjoyed the meat lovers deluxe burger with the best roasted potatoes I’ve had in a long time. Had a lovely glass of wine and a delicious banana pie crumble (Banofee) for dessert. I fell in love a little bit this evening and CandyBar sure did make it sweet.

The best Gin & Tonic I have had since leaving the UK five months ago! What a great little find. Adorable bar/restaurant in a quiet area; excellent service (thank you Maria!) and the most delicious burger (definitely home made, and all the better for it). Keep up the good work 😎

Came here after it was suggested in our Lonely Planets guide and it didn’t disappoint! We were served by the lovely Grummie who was super attentive and super helpful with translating in English for us. The ambience and decor is so lovely and relaxing and very cosy. There are only 6 tables inside and the rest are outside, but we arrived at 20:00 on a Thursday evening and managed to get a table, but it soon filled up. The place is also clean including the toilets. I had the Candy burger which I have to admit was probably one of the best burgers I have ever had and we come from London! I knew it was good from the moment the waitress asked how I would like my burger cooked (medium). There was plenty enough of burger and home cooked chips. My husband had the bagel with egg and prawns. Lovely flavours only criticism he had was that the prawns were cold and not enough spice. Suggestion would be to marinate the prawns in a chilli sauce and cook to order so they are nice and hot in the bagel. Lots of drinks to cater for all tastes and they give complimentary olives when you sit down which is a lovely touch. Craft beers available are delicious and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend this gorgeous restaurant for burgers, taps or cocktails. Thinking of planning a brunch for the weekend here!

Small place, but open earlier than most, though the earlier menu is limited to burgers, we ate and enjoyed tremendously the flavor and quality of the food. The lemonade is served with a slice of ginger and several pomegranate seeds, which added color and beauty, but also ginger helps with digestion and is an anti-inflammatory food, so it was a beautiful and a health booster. My kids ordered their burgers super plain, but the young man who took orders and prepared the burgers was quite pleasant about the few changes we requested. My burger was delicious, juicy and flavorful and with egg and delicious arugula and sweet carmelized onions adding flavor and depth. The evening menu is even more varied and we wished we had discovered this place sooner so we could come back for dinner. Recommend!

I was strolling around Durazno Road with my friend and found this cosy looking cafe. Staffs are really good and welcoming. We ordered : 1. Cafe con leche (4/5) 2. Burger Vegetarina con papa ruaticas (pure veg burger) (Vegetarian burger with potato wedges) (4.5/5) I like this place. Food is good. I have not tried other things. Food quality is really good , but need to increase portion a bit. You might feel hungry after one meal. They have good Beverage options. Please visit, enjoy the food and ambience 👍.

Simple and austere in appearance, this makes the discovery of this gem of a tiny little resto-bar in Palermo neighborhood into much more than rewarding experience. The honest food menu is small but comprehensive with gourmet twists that elevate the otherwise traditional courses to unexpected level of unpretentious quality. The original cocktails and drinks add nicely and the service is casual but knowledgeable and very kind. Great for a quiet lunch during the week or for a nice dinner or after office drinks. Place is very small so come early to avoid disappointment.

The bar Bar Americano provides an enjoyable dining experience with delectable cuisine and top-notch service. The dishes, such as the wok and grilled chicken salad, are of high quality and come in satisfying portions at reasonable prices. This establishment also offers a delightful selection of local IPAs that are highly enjoyable. It is highly recommended by many patrons. While the ambiance on a Monday evening was only average, it remains an excellent spot to relax and unwind.
We went for dinner to watch the Peñarol vs. Flamengo soccer match and Bar Americano had it on the TV. Our hamburgers and fries were good and the service (which responded quickly when we made eye contact and left us alone while we watched the match) was great! If you are looking for a quiet restaurant (with an English-speaking waiter) with the possibility of watching an important game, I recommend Bar Americano. The chocolate and vanilla ice creams were also quite good.

Impeccable place with great music, very well trained attendants and formidable food. A very good place for lunch, afternoon coffee and supper. Price is average when compared to the other places around. Very comfortable and clean. Attendants speak Portuguese and English as well. Makes everything easier and the experience much better. PS for those who bring kids: they bring some paper and highlights to the table for them to entertain themselves.

Food was really good, not too expensive! We really like the citrus salmon! Cocktails and wine were also good. The waiters speak english and were very friendly. Totally recommend it!
Christina S — Google review
Worst burger I have ever had in my life, neither myself nor my partner ate our burgers, the waitress looked at our untouched plates repeatedly and didn't even ask, just took my money and went on with her night. She never checked back at all to see how the food was, just dumped the inedible burgers in front of us and nothing more. We came last Friday around 23:00. The burgers were mashed together with nasty scrapings of gristle, char, bits of food from the scraping trays from the grill - if you've ever worked in a restaurant before you'll know exactly what I mean. Unforgivably bad - we are long term guests in the Smart Hotel where this restaurant is located - this was our first time visiting the restaurant, and will definitely be the last. You literally couldn't PAY ME to eat here.

Toledo Bar de Tapas is a charming spot located in Ciudad Vieja, offering a mix of Spanish-influenced dishes and small plates that have become a citywide trend. The restaurant stands out for its stellar renditions of classic Spanish dishes like tortilla espanola and slow-cooked egg with mushrooms and truffles. For the best experience, visitors can grab a seat at the bar overlooking the open kitchen.
This is a fantastic restaurant, stumbled upon it while walking around and was greatly pleased. Everything we tried was amazing, from the avocado gazpacho, to the zucchini ravioli. Each dish boasting a modern spin to traditional Spanish tapas. I would highly recommend anyone in the area to try this place.

This was the best restaurant that we went to in Montevideo. Ordered the Tortilla de papa, Polenta, and the Risotto, and would definitely recommend all of them again. A unique take on Spanish tapas, with excellent quality and refined flavors. The service was great and the ambiance was perfect for a date night or night out with friends. Not the best place for little kids- just because the vibe is more adult and they don’t have high chairs.

In the heart of Pocitos it’s a semi open bar with craft beer brewed inhouse. The beer is exceptional, you have a very large seleccion of equally delicious craft beers. The food however was a big letdown, no vegetarian options at all. Bleh, something to work on no doubt. (Translated by Google) Located inside Mercado Ferrando, this wine warehouse is a must-see stop for wine lovers. They offer a wide variety of Uruguayan wines at an excellent price. The attention is outstanding, since they have a sommelier who helps choose the best wine depending on what you want. A few months ago they also offered delicious cheeses to accompany them. You can't miss it!

The Wine Experience - Pioneer of Wine Tourism in Uruguay is a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts exploring Montevideo. Established in 2015, this contemporary wine bar has quickly become a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Located conveniently near the Mercado del Puerto, it is managed by passionate wine aficionados Nicolas Cappellini and Liber Pisciottano, who are dedicated to showcasing innovative and lesser-known Uruguayan wines.
This is by far the best wine tour in Montevideo! You visit a small winery with the option of lunch paired with wines. Highly recommended!

If I could give 6 stars, I would! My husband and I enjoyed two wine tours with The Wine Experience and both were incredibly special days. Both tours were intimate and informative. The wine is delightful too! Ryan is incredibly giving and went above and beyond to make sure we had a fabulous trip in Uruguay. 💯 Percent recommend!
