Parco Urbano Monte Orlando is a stunning natural reserve nestled in the picturesque landscape of Gaeta, offering visitors an escape into nature. This park is part of the protected area surrounding the cape that shares its name and boasts numerous hiking trails perfect for leisurely strolls or invigorating bike rides. As you explore, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the sea that stretch as far as the eye can see.
My Italian mate said we should visit. It was a decent walk Great views Amazing history

Worth the walk up from eastern side of Gaeta. Great views of the castle and the weaponry stores are interesting to walk through.
Tomas D — Google review
A must visit place if you are into walks and photography. Superb view over the beautiful town of Gaeta.
Dragos L — Google review
This is a good recreation park for active people. A bit up and down. Some parts not in maintenance. A lot of nice views. Also on the southwest side. Spectacular cliff you can watch clear blue water. Churches and chapel. Big parking. Also a lighthouse on the top. People use it for trekking, running and dog walking

Excellent park. Great views. But take a training shoes and water - climbing to tomb is not easy. Beware of a snakes.

A must-see for all the tourists visiting Gaeta. Breathtaking panorama and enjoyable walking trail for a romantic stroll or brisk walking. This trail will lead you to other important tourist spots of Gaeta. It is definitely worth your time.

One of my favorite places in the world. Surrounded by the busy tourism of Italy, Monte Orlando is an oasis of peace. Whether you're interested in nature, exercise, history, destressing, the amazing views of Gaeta from every angle, or all of the above, you will find it all here. Can't recommend enough!

Caverns & Caves
In the beautiful surroundings of Gaeta, Italy, lies the Grotta del Turco, a natural cave with a rich history and stunning geological formations. This cave is part of the Montagna Spaccata area, which also includes the Santuario della Montagna Spaccata. Legend has it that this split mountain occurred during the crucifixion of Jesus, adding a mystical element to its natural beauty.
Great place for visit. Actually there are two places here. 1 is most popular, but 2 also remarkable near the see light. To reach the place take straight after main entrance, left side, go to small chapel, and on the left side there is stairway down. You will find another great place!
Andrey G — Google review
It will be open all the way down to the sea from August 15th, 2025
Metalpsyche82 — Google review
It is really nice but also very steep. Its basically going downhill and climbing up the hill again. The view is worth it. Its said jesus cry split the mountain.
Amrutha P — Google review
It’s an amazing place but the fact you can only go 60 steps is a bit of a let down. Unless your in Gaeta it’s not worth the travel. I remember I went when I was a kid and being able to go the whole way down. So as you can see from my pic it’s just a rail and a bit of a view
Jason R — Google review
Place is impressive but you should check opening times as it is closed couple of hours also during day time.
Edith Z — Google review
A very scenic spot indeed! Unfortunately, it was not possible to go all the way down due to seasonal closure.

Outdoor Activities
Serapo is a popular summer destination along the Gulf of Gaeta, offering a long sandy stretch and stunning vistas. It is the most equipped beach in the town, located between the promontory of Monte Orlando and Fontania. The area offers numerous services and free spaces, as well as a park for children to play in. Additionally, there are various events in July near Serapo, making it an ideal location for holidaymakers.
this is by far one of the best beaches. beautiful clear water! so refreshing, but not whatsoever cold. it’s amazing! you have this beautiful rock area on your left side and the beach full of sand and a nice view on the right. This beach is good to surf too when you have the right conditions with left waves punchy and ordered. The water is very clean and cool. Certainly a very Italian sea concept with the beaches that follow one another to the point of making it seem like they want to hide this beauty from non-paying people. This location is home to a vast beach with light sand and crystal clear water. Crowded in the summer period and enjoyable . There are also a few places where the beach is free and you don't have to pay, but it is more crowded there.
Jitendra P — Google review
Gaeta is so amazing just for its natural attractions because for the other it’s not convenient come to visit this small town full of corruption, everything so expensive, the attitude of the peoples is so rude and no touristic attractions. Along the years this small town is changed so much as the tourism completely will stop for the future.
Dreaming P — Google review
this is by far one of the best beaches, i have ever visited in my life!! it is one of the top of my list! Tons of lidi but you can find your way, at the begginging of the beach, the “free beach” where you can just lay your towel and just enjoy! we did just that. we parked our car, walked down and layed the towel. once that was done, all you do is dive right into this beautiful clear water! so refreshing, but not whatsoever cold. it’s amazing! you have this beautiful rock area on your left side and the beach full of sand and a nice view on the right! oh the best part about this, is when you go in the water, you have to walk a bit to be more deep cuz the water is so shallow - so you can enjoy your time in the water but also be not fully in yet!!
Luigi N — Google review
The best beach in Lazio for sure
Assem N — Google review
Very good beach, in summer it could be very crowdy and the sea as well, but walk in winter there on a sunny day and you will be very pleased. This beach is good to surf too when you have the right conditions with left waves punchy and ordered. The water is very clean and cool, there are a lot of structure where to rent a chair or where to take a beer. The boardwalk is very beautiful.

The Mausoleum of Lucius Plancus Munazio is a significant historical site in Gaeta, offering visitors a glimpse into the past dating back to 3 A.D. Located within Montagna Spaccata, it is part of the Sanctuary which also includes churches, chapels, and the entrance to the Grotta del Turco sea cave. The mausoleum is well-maintained and open to the public every morning until 1 PM without any charge.
Wicked mausoleum of one of Caesar’s officers in very good condition.

This monument is such a great historical heritage for Gaeta and has added a large amount of value to it. We're talking about a real glimpse of the past dating back to year 3 A.D. It is noteworthy to mention how this city's beautiful asset had been maintained and well taken care of. It is indeed a pleasure watching it inside and out. Maybe most people don't know, it's open for public every morning until 1PM and it's free of charge.

The Cathedral Basilica of Gaeta is a historic site with significant religious and cultural importance. It houses the Annunziata, built in 1931, and the well-known Chapel of Gold, which has attracted the attention of several popes throughout history. Visitors can also explore the Palazzo De Vio, home to the Diocesan Museum featuring artifacts such as the Standard of Lepanto.
Located in the center of the old city of Gaeta, it is one of the monuments not to be missed. Beautiful and charming as a whole. It is possible to see the old structure of the naves entering on the right and admire the old narrower form of the Church. The crypt is splendid, as are the columns, slightly ruined to have been covered during the second half of the 18th century, but intact and beautifully preserved. Excellent conservative restoration and not excessively devastating. Not to be missed. Excelente restauración conservadora y no excesivamente devastadora.

Serapo Beach is hailed as the most beautiful beach on the Latium coast, boasting soft golden sands and crystal-clear waters. Visitors can also explore Pozzo del Diavolo, a captivating water cave. A trip to Gaeta offers sightseeing along the coast, with views of medieval buildings and historical insights from a knowledgeable skipper. The beach is easily accessible from Porto Antico Gaeta Santamria, with both paid and free parking options available nearby.
Beautiful beach, wonderful sea. Definitely worth visiting if you are into both sea and mountain.

M S — Google review
I totally agree with a previous comment, if you are a tourist, don’t mind going there. I am from Canada and paid a lot to be here and I never felt so unwelcome in a place before. I tought Italien people were nice but… They act like you kill there cat or something because you speak English. Don’t recommend at all.
Marie-Lau D — Google review
Extremely crowded beach, also very commercialized. The entire beach front is consumed by beach clubs that demand you pay to enter the beach front even if you aren’t using their facilities. If you long to rent a beach chair and umbrella, you best have at least 30-40 euro in your pocket to be able to stay just a couple hours. The water is fair , but the chairs and umbrellas are right on top of one another and most people smoke cigarettes or weed so be prepared for misery if you’re a nonsmoker. Picture taken after hours, the only peaceful time at this beach.
James M — Google review
Very clean sand and water. Very nice beach. We like it so much. In early October water is quite warm and not many people.
Katarina L — Google review
If you're not the type of tourist who can handle being packed in like sardines, this place isn't for you. Almost the entire beach is owned by private hotels, and the remaining small spots are crowded with locals. Even these public sections of the beach are managed by vendors who offer sunbeds for €30/day. You won't find public showers on the beach, and everything comes with a hefty price tag. On the other hand, the beach is really clean, and the water is crystal clear. Simply beautiful

Small beach very busy in summer season, unfortunately covered by small Hill and exposed opposite to the sun so it's the first beach shadowed at sunset. Close to this beach it's possible to enjoy a private garden with small bar and sunbed to take the sun. It's a little bit expensive but privacy and relax are warrantee. Also is near to a restaurant so no problem to have meal. The beach itself doesn't offer services like bar, rent sunbed, etc..

The Sanctuary of Montagna Spaccata, also known as the Split Mountain, is a dramatic cliff face with steps leading down to a seaside chapel dedicated to a 16th-century saint. It is considered one of the wonders of Gaeta and is surrounded by fanciful legends. The area is also known as the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea and has strong connections to classical mythology.
The Sanctuary of the Holy Trinity at Montagna Spaccata, located in Gaeta, is a place of extraordinary beauty and spirituality. The sanctuary is about a 10-minute walk from the nearest parking lot, located on Via Santissima Trinità. Admission is free, allowing everyone to explore this sacred place without additional costs. It is advisable to have coins available for a free offering for the maintenance of the sanctuary. An architectural masterpiece nestled between the rocks of the mountain, the sanctuary offers a breathtaking view of the sea and an atmosphere of peace and devotion. The vertical cracks in the rock, which give Montagna Spaccata its name, create a unique and evocative environment. Inside, the frescoes and works of sacred art tell stories of faith and miracles, transporting visitors on a spiritual journey through the centuries.

A must if you are ever in Gaeta! Beautiful views and an incredible story behind it. If you are staying in Gaeta Medievale it is a worthwhile hike with amazing old ruins along the way. Make sure to take cash as it is free entry, but it is customary to leave an offering/donation.

what a place! as you follow this street down, you encounter some stairs, a path, rocks everywhere and you just going forwards to see what else is there for you to see! you find these imprints of some big hands on the wall where this Turk has opened the mountain and literally broken it as the legend says. you then encounter a little tiny church, a church maybe with 8-10 seats , so small but yet so cool to then walking up the stairs you find yourself located on top of this tiny church and you look down and all you see is blue! a blue so nice and clear but yet so deep to where it is completely incredible and a mesmerizing! completely suggest to go here to anyone if they can!!

The Castello Angioino-Aragonese is a must-see attraction in Gaeta, Italy. It is considered one of the city's symbols and has a rich history dating back to either the 6th or 12th century. Some sources claim it was built during the war against the Goths, while others attribute its construction to Frederick II of Swabia during the Guelphs and Ghibellines conflict.
An extraordinary experience! The history of the place is very important and represents an opportunity for reflection on the present time. The view is breathtaking. When you walk to the castle there are very interesting and easy paths to walk. I suggest you to visit the mountain ‘Spaccata’ and the Sanctuary of the SS. Trinity of Gaeta, you will find Father Daniel to welcome the pilgrims!
Alessandra S — Google review
I recently visited Castel Angioino, and my impressions are mixed. Unfortunately, the castle is not in the best condition, but it clearly has a rich history. The guided tour lasts about an hour and is really interesting – an English-speaking guide costs €20, while a regular ticket is €10. The highlight for me was the stunning view of the city from the walls – definitely worth seeing! Overall, if you enjoy history and architecture, it’s worth a visit, but don’t expect any modern attractions.

Being there has made me really perceive how prisoners should have felt, and what have been history in Italy and its relationship with penitentiaries. Really cool. Then also the views are amazing on the gulf.

Awesome castle turned into a prison around the 19th century. Visitable only through a guided tour, where the guide was competent, clear, and entertaining all the way. Unmissable.

A very cool experience with a lot of history. The tour is short and quite expensive (20 euro per person) BUT if you have the cash to spare I would highly recommend. The tour guides are well prepared and informed.

We had the most unexpectedly lovely trip to Castello Angioino today with our five young children ages 9, 7, 5, 3, and 1 largely due to our amazing tour guide, Stefano. He was engaging and knew what to teach the kids to keep them interested and asking questions, while also learning the history of the castle. The view from the top is spectacular, but it was the little tales on the tour that made this stop really stand out to us. I won’t spoil the surprises, but it was fascinating to hear about some of the prisoners and tales from the castles time as a prison. Highly recommend making this a stop if you’re in the Gaeta area! Much different from so many of the other castles we have visited and a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. Gaeta is a hidden gem!

The Church of Saint Francis of Assisi in Gaeta, Italy, may not boast ornate decorations like other nearby places of worship, but its strategic hilltop location makes it a must-visit. The Neo-gothic church offers breathtaking panoramic views over the medieval part of the city and the Gulf of Gaeta. Climbing the steps to reach the church is an experience in itself, and from its facade, visitors can capture stunning photographs of the old town.
Access to the church was closed, came here on Saturday at 16:30. The opening hours on Google are not correct (15:30-17:30). Luckily, you do not need to enter through the gates, you can get a beautiful view of Gaeta and the church through the side street at the top.

The Santuario della Santissima Annunziata, located in Via Annunziata, 21, was established in 1320 outside the city walls of Gaeta. Although it was largely demolished due to the city's fortification, it was rebuilt with baroque decorations. The sanctuary features a double order facade with a beautiful wooden portal and a high relief of an angel with spread wings inside.

(Translated by Google) I haven't found any opening hours but outside the tourist season I believe it is normally closed to the public with the exception of mass times (currently 2 on Sunday and 2 on other days) and the transit of organized tourist groups. In 1321 it was decided to build a complex with a hospital, a convent and a church. This was opened in 1354 and the following year the hospital began its activity but two centuries later it hindered the construction of the new city walls wanted by Charles V. For this reason in 1536 the church was almost completely demolished, in 1621 it was rebuilt changing its orientation which became parallel to the walls, in 1700 the clock was added to the façade.

(Translated by Google) I spent the Easter weekend in Gaeta. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, both in the morning and in the afternoon, I tried to visit the church, as suggested by the tourist sites. I have always found the door strictly locked. At the umpteenth bounce, I perhaps naively asked a couple of natives for clarification. Among the embarrassed and resigned responses received, I was struck by the excuse "in this period S. Annunziata does not have its own parish priest". As if to allow a tourist to visit there was a need for a parish priest in vestments. Or as if, on the occasion of the passing of a pope (the good Francis passed away in recent days), St. Peter's closed its doors until the outcome of the next conclave. Ah, sad Gaeta, city of a hundred churches and as many locked doors! :-(

So, this place is a small food/beach rental shack. It is impossible to see the sign and entrance from the road. I parked in front of the nearby hotel and followed the path to the beach. Umbrella rental is about 5 Euro and chair is 2 Euro. My children were offered some beach toys to play with, which was an absolute joy! The beach rental part of this was 5 Stars all the way. However, everything went down when we decided to eat there. I desperately wanted to like it. But, the wait to order was horrendous. The foods took forever. We noticed about two customers leave without finishing. The food was subpar. I was truly disappointed. My children wanted mozzarella sticks. Ours was very soggy with oil and some parts were cold! The shrimp in my seafood spaghetti was not fresh. It tastes pretty old. As I previously suggested, they are an excellent umbrella and chair rental service. They are located right on the beach and at the end of the beach.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful small deserted beach. You can get there by boat. We swam on a supboard to this beach. Very beautiful place. We spent there almost the whole day.

(Translated by Google) It is a little jewel to reach by boat or canoe. A true.paradise.Spring water that mixes with that of the sea. Reachable by canoe, pedalo or boat from Ariana beach, following it to the left after the promontory. Worth visiting.

(Translated by Google) Small treasures that can only be discovered by coming from the sea, perhaps by sailing canoe. Small oases where you can catch your breath during a walk between the various coves, a dip in crystal clear waters away from the summer crowds; It's a shame that too many boats anchor away from the dominant west, which takes away the intimate and wild flavor of this place.

Museum
Museum Ferdinand II is a hidden gem located within the Monte Orlando Park in Gaeta. The museum features an exhibition on local geology and beyond, showcasing the area's rich history. Visitors can explore ruins within the park and discover the fascinating history of Gaeta beautifully exhibited in this seemingly insignificant building. Although it may not be heavily advertised, this museum is definitely worth a visit for those interested in delving into the region's geological and historical heritage.
A seemingly insignificant building that reveals a valuable gem 💎. I was completely caught by surprise upon entering this building to discover the history of Gaeta and how beautifully it is being exhibited.

(Translated by Google) Congratulations to those who curated the exhibition on local geology (and beyond) at the museum. To be advertised because it deserves and instead you get there "almost by chance" (Original) Complimenti a chi ha curato la mostra sulla geologia del posto (e non solo) al museo.

(Translated by Google) The beach would also be very beautiful, if it weren't for the fact that there isn't a single cm2 available even in June. Furthermore, there are no free beach areas, everything is occupied by the lidos, even illegally. Not to mention the prices: last Saturday in June 1 umbrella and 2 sunbeds €50. (Ariana establishment). Curre curre guagliò, curre curre guagliò ooo UPDATE: After 6:30 pm the free beach areas illegally occupied by the neighboring lidos are completely cleared!!! (Stabilimento ariana).
