Located along Durban's Golden Mile, uShaka Marine World is a top tourist attraction offering a variety of activities for the whole family. The complex includes Wet n Wild waterpark with thrilling rides, Sea World boasting the largest aquarium in the Southern Hemisphere, and Ushaka Kids World for younger visitors. Additionally, there are attractions such as a seal stadium, penguin exhibit, and scheduled dolphin shows.
This place is truly one of Durban’s gems and a must-visit for anyone looking to combine fun, adventure, and a touch of education. From the moment I walked through the vibrant uShaka Village Walk, I felt immersed in the atmosphere. The seal show was entertaining and full of charm, while the dolphin show was nothing short of magical; seeing these intelligent creatures up close was unforgettable. The aquarium is breathtaking, with its wide variety of marine life and incredible underwater displays. I also explored the Dangerous Animals and Reptiles exhibit, which added an exciting edge to the day - it was fascinating and a little thrilling to see these creatures so closely. Every section was well thought out, interactive, and engaging. What really stood out for me was how well the park blends education with entertainment. It’s not just about having fun; you also walk away learning more about marine life, conservation, and the beauty of the ocean. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the facilities were clean and well-maintained. Overall, uShaka Marine World elevated my experience in Durban - it’s the kind of place where families, couples, or even solo adventurers can all find something special. I left with great memories, plenty of photos, and the desire to come back again! Highly recommended. 🌊🐬🐠🐊

uShaka is always a lovely place to visit when coming to Durban. I hadn’t been here since before Covid and was worried when I saw all the negative reviews, however it’s not bad at all. There are staff everywhere to assist, the spaces are kept clean, and the shows, aquarium and slides are all very enjoyable. We were here during off peak season so it was not busy at all. The parking has attendants on the inside and you have to pay at the gate too. The payment at the gate was R21 for about 6 hours, which isn’t too bad. I recommend having some cash as well. It’s important to check the website before planning your trip so you know when is the best time to visit based on what’s available.

🌊 1. Sea World Home to one of the largest aquariums in the Southern Hemisphere. You can walk through underwater tunnels and view sharks, rays, turtles, dolphins, and colorful fish up close. There are dolphin and seal shows scheduled daily — both entertaining and educational. 💦 2. Wet ‘n Wild Water Park Features water slides, lazy rivers, splash pools, and high-speed rides. Great for families and thrill-seekers. Lifeguards are stationed throughout, and facilities are well maintained. 🏖️ 3. uShaka Beach and Village Walk Located right next to the ocean, with easy beach access. Village Walk offers shops, restaurants, and cafés — from fast food to seafood dining with ocean views. You can also find souvenirs, surfwear, and local crafts. 🧭 4. Animal Encounters Optional experiences like snorkeling in lagoons, shark cage dives, or meeting dolphins (book in advance). Great for adventure seekers or photography lovers. 🎭 5. Cultural and Family Vibes Themed around King Shaka Zulu — you’ll see touches of Zulu culture and storytelling throughout. The staff are generally friendly, and it’s a very family-friendly and educational space. ⭐ Overall Experience 🌟 Fun level: 9/10 🧒 Family friendliness: Excellent 💰 Value for money: Good (combo tickets often save you money) 🍽️ Food & facilities: Varied and clean 🐠 Highlight: The massive aquarium and dolphin show
Lwandiso Q — Google review
uShaka is a beautiful big place to do alot of things, inreally think they did an outstanding job with the layout. The only thing I'd recommend is to improve on the seal show, it's was a little bit of a waist of time, they only have a short briefing then select soemone from the audience to meet a seal, and that's it show is over, I feel they can do a little more than a 5mint show, for me it was a waist the kids could hardly enjoy, the dolphin show was so amazing, got to give it tobthe staff that handles the dolphin show now that definitely worth to see, some areas where closed, and some restaurants are closed, so it's a little bit sad, I'd prefer to go early morning, as midday is extremely busy if you not someone for large groups of people. To view the marine life. They definitely are doing a great job and that you have an opportunity to meet the dolphins personally, but you would need to book ahead of time with them to personally have an experience with the dolphins. But the show you don't need booking.
Scholtz B — Google review
uShaka Marine World is an incredible place to visit! The aquarium is one of the best I’ve seen, with an amazing variety of marine life and beautifully designed exhibits. The water park adds even more fun, especially for families with children. The atmosphere is vibrant and safe, with plenty of food and entertainment options around. I highly recommend booking tickets in advance, especially during weekends and holidays, as it gets very busy. A must-see attraction in Durban!
Yasser D — Google review
Best place to visit around Durban. There are Marine Aquarium, Dolphin and seal shows, Dangerous creature show, water adventures, rope adventure and water parks. Everything totally worth. You can also take seperate tickets for each events, but it's better to take combo tickets. Go for water park if u gonna spend the whole day there. Ticket prices are also not high, but affordable. We really enjoyed it
Churchill J — Google review
I've been wanting to go there for ages. I was not disappointed. The staff are really working hard to make it an amazing experience. The exhibits are well maintained. There are lots of shops and more than enough to eat and drink. I will certainly go back and can definitely recommend it.
Mari S — Google review
I had good time in uShaka marine world. It have seal show and dolphins show. I think if you have kids you can enjoy with your family. Aquarium was also good. Near to marine world, there is restaurant named Cargo Hold and it is also good. You can enjoy lunch or dinner with aquarium(aquarium side need reservation, but other seat don't need reservation)

Stadium
Sights & Landmarks
Arenas & Stadiums
Moses Mabhida Stadium is a modern 56,000-seat venue in South Africa that has gained popularity for its state-of-the-art facilities and versatile usage. It hosted seven FIFA World Cup matches, including a star-studded semi-final in 2010. The stadium offers more than just sports events; it also hosts concerts and even features bungee jumping.
Review: Moses Mabhida Stadium – A Stunning Landmark, But Currently Under Repairs Moses Mabhida Stadium is undeniably one of Durban’s most iconic landmarks, with its breathtaking architecture and panoramic views of the city. The surrounding area is vibrant, full of greenery, and offers a great atmosphere for visitors. However, if you're planning a visit anytime soon, be aware that the stadium is currently undergoing repairs. As seen in the images, scaffolding covers a significant portion of the structure, and access to the stadium itself appears to be restricted. It's a bit disappointing not being able to explore the interior or experience some of the attractions, but it’s still worth visiting for the views and photo opportunities from the outside. If you’re in Durban, it's still a must-see spot, but check ahead to see when it reopens fully!
Daniel R — Google review
Moses Mabhida Stadium is one of the greatest Stadium in the World, a World Class Piece of Art. Access control to the Stadium should be improved. The one thing that this infrastructure lacks, is network or connection signal. As soon as one gets into the Stadium, one loses network connection for the period of being in that Stadium. This is a serious inconvenience and a detach to the world when one is a place where wants to connect with the world.
Errol P — Google review
I was really impressed by how well-maintained and organised everything is. The stadium has a great atmosphere, whether you're there for a match or just a visit. What stood out for me is the convenience 🌸there are restaurants on-site, making it easy to grab a meal or a quick bite without having to leave the venue. There's also a gym inside, which is perfect for fitness lovers or athletes in training. Clean facilities, ample parking, and a professional vibe throughout.
Onthatile R — Google review
We took the SkyCar up the arch just before sunset and the view over Durban stopped us in our tracks, ocean on one side, city stretching on the other. We took a few photos, then just leaned on the rail and watched the light slide across the roof. Even on a breezy evening it felt calm up there, like the city noise was on mute. Back at ground level we wandered the plaza, grabbed something to drink, and sat people-watching while the lights came on around the stadium. It’s one of those places that makes a simple hour feel like an occasion, easy, memorable, and worth the detour.
Warren L — Google review
stunning landmark with breathtaking architecture and panoramic views . The SkyCar and arch walk, when functional, offer spectacular sunset vistas over Durban and the ocean . Adrenaline activities & events Andrenalin junkies gather here but it now currently under renovations
Luyanda F — Google review
We went up in the SkyCar for a proper postcard view of Durban’s coastline, then lingered on the arch just to watch the city breathe. It’s clean, well-run, and surprisingly calming up there. If you’ve got nerves, the Big Swing is a rush; if not, the café and plaza still make it worth the stop. Sunset light on the arch is magic, photos do half the work for you.
Adrian T — Google review
We went up late afternoon and the views were exactly what we hoped for—ocean on one side, city on the other, and a steady breeze that makes you pause. Staff were calm and friendly, and the whole process felt smooth from ticketing to the ride down. It’s one of those “show your visitors this first” places because it sets the tone for Durban. Back at ground level we lingered on the plaza, grabbed something cold to drink, and watched people cycle past. It’s easy to pair with a walk toward the beachfront, so the outing turns into a simple, happy couple of hours.

The Kings Park Stadium, also known as the "Shark Tank," is a rugby ground located close to The Riverside Hotel in Durban. It's about a 5-minute drive from the hotel and 20 minutes from King Shaka International Airport. This stadium is primarily used for rugby union and is the home ground of the Natal Sharks team. The stadium has a seating capacity of 52,000 and has hosted several international rugby matches, including the 1995 Rugby World Cup ¹ ². Address: Jacko Jackson Dr, Stamford Hill, Durban, 4025.

Durban Botanic Gardens, Africa's oldest botanical garden, is a vibrant mix of indigenous and exotic plants surrounded by majestic trees. The gardens feature a diverse range of flora including orchids, palms, and rare cycads. Visitors can stroll along walking paths, admire fountains and ponds, or relax in the Garden of the Senses designed for the visually impaired. The gardens also offer educational experiences in partnership with the University of Technology's Horticulture department.
The park and birds there well taken care of clean and quiet. A lot of sitting areas also accessible to cater as a venue for photo shoot for wedding, anniversary and family parties. Quiet spot to read a book during the week.

Strolling through the Durban Botanical Gardens in winter 🍃❄️ feels like stepping into a calm, green sanctuary. The crisp air fills your lungs as tall trees sway gently overhead 🌳 and soft sunlight filters through the branches ☀️. With birds calling 🐦, leaves crunching underfoot 🍂, and pops of color from winter blooms 🌼, every step feels like a peaceful escape—a little dose of nature’s magic right in the heart of the city 💚.
Cristina F — Google review
We slipped off for an hour between family visits and the city noise just melted, cool shade, giant trees, and easy paths you can wander without thinking. We found the lake, watched moorhens fussing around the lilies, and took a few photos before putting the phones away. It felt like a small breather in the middle of a busy family weekend. We grabbed cold drinks, sat under a big fig, and chatted about nothing important while the kids rolled down the lawn. Couples strolled past, a wedding shoot drifted by the orchids, and the whole place just moved at a gentler pace. Simple, calm, and exactly the reset we needed before heading back to the cousins.
Warren L — Google review
Botanic Garden is beautiful, peace and quiet. I went on Saturday it was full yet so spacious as there was a wedding ceremony in the hall. People who were visiting the garden were able to access it. I would really recommend it 👌 if you want to relax, enjoy the view and nature.

We’ve had a visiting this place with my bestie and boyfriend! It’s totally free for everyone, and if you’re feeling generous, you can always donate a little something. Plus, there’s a great coffee spot and some books for super cheap. And don’t forget the cute little shop with all sorts of nice stuff and souvenirs!
Aleksandr F — Google review
Beautiful and peaceful space in the heart of Durban. The educational signs make it a great spot for plant lovers, and the garden is perfect for a picnic or a romantic walk. There's also an affordable coffee shop on-site. Parking can be a bit difficult on busy days, but overall a lovely place to visit!
Lindo G — Google review
One of the oldest botanical gardens in Africa and a serene oasis in the heart of Durban. Gorgeous collection of cycads, orchids, and palm trees. Ideal for picnics, birdwatching, or quiet walks. The gardens are well maintained with clean facilities and ample benches. There’s often live music or events on weekends. Entry is free, though donations are welcome.

Umgeni River Bird Park, situated in the Riverside area on the north bank of Umgeni River, is a haven for bird enthusiasts. With over 200 species of birds, including some exclusive to Africa, visitors can explore lush landscapes and waterfalls while observing indigenous and exotic birds from Southeast Asia and Australia. The park's bird show offers an educational experience as exotic species showcase their talents. Once a quarry, this sanctuary was transformed into a vibrant avian paradise by Dr.
My kids loved this place. The lady at the entrance spent time explaining to us about different types of birds. The tuck shop man and the gogo there were very friendly. unfortunately we didn't get on time for the show. I deeply love this place
Nokhuthula ( — Google review
It was a great experience, especially for kids! They seemed to enjoy it even more than the adults. Although the variety of birds wasn't extensive, the kids had a blast. I didn't feel like it was crowded, but I can imagine it would be busier during school holidays. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit!
Jinto J — Google review
This is a difficult review for me but I still give it 5 stars. Any less and they may not be featured in recommendations of things to do in Durban. And you should definitely visit the bird park! The park showed some signs of deterioration from a previous vidit, but the birds looked well cared for despite this. You have educational boards up at every exhibit, so thinking school excursions would be a wonderful boost for young minds and support this park. We did not see the bird show, hosted twice daily - but i remember it being such a wonderful experience. And if for no other reason, there are 2 birds in the park that stole my heart many years ago: a yellow crested cockatoo - who is the friendliest little thing ever. I don't think we should scratch their heads through the wires, but this one allows me to and actually throws a little tantrum when you stop or move on. The other us a another parrot who learned how to say "hello" and just repeats it non-stop while you are visiting his home. So cute!!!
Chantelle W — Google review
Please go support the bird park so they can keep the interesting park going. There’s a coffee and tea place too. Some birds are really unique. Stay for the 11am or 2pm for the fly show.
Luc H — Google review
What a welcoming and beautiful experience. The birds are very social and interactive. The park is run down but at least the animals looks healthy. Feel free to order something to snack! The food is good and the peacocks love the leftover bread and chips.
Stefan C — Google review
Place is clean, birds are caged (some) and well taken care of. I had a great time with my girlfriends Linda 🫠. Laughing kookaburra took the crown
Ayanda G — Google review

History Museums
Kwa Muhle Museum, located in the former premises of Durban's Native Affairs Department, offers a poignant look into the history and struggles of the city and its people. The museum features exhibits on life in Durban during apartheid, including photographs of township life and displays honoring those who contributed to the city's development. The building itself was once a symbol of oppressive apartheid policies but has been transformed into an elegant museum showcasing important portraits, documents, and memorabilia from that era.
There is no entry fee, It’s a helpful museum if you want to have an idea about the history of Durban as a city.
Sphamandla L — Google review
Great museum featuring some great exhibitions on Durbans history. The staff were welcoming and helpful! A little small, so hoping it could showcase more in the future but the historical photographs were incredible. Amazing quality for their time and showcasing an important time in South Africa’s history in foregrounding families and real people affected by apartheid forced removals. The HIV/AIDS showcase is one of the most thorough and expressive medical histories I’ve ever attended.
JBinedell — Google review
Great little Museum! In less than an hour you’ll get a good feeling for what life would have been like in Durban for people discriminated against during apartheid. The fact that this is the actual pass office makes it really tangible! The buildings are well kept and entrance is indeed free.

A very good place to learn about Durban history, even living here for years I learnt new information. It was free entry and extremely well maintained museum, I am very impressed by the quality of information and having interactive parts in the museum as well.

A small museum. Free entrance. I learned history.
Billy N — Google review
The first thing that stood out as I walked into the old Native Administration Building was how clean and well preserved it was. Staff at reception were extremely helpful and kind. It was refreshing to experience good service from government employees. The museum itself is small with only 4 main display rooms. One of which has most of Durbans history in the form of story boards and sculptures depicting life at the time. There is a large room where an HIV AIDS gallery is held. There was too much writing on the walls. Literally. Another room showcased stories and paraphernalia of the Durban Old Boys, men who fought in World War 1. Although the information and faculties were relevant and informative, I expected more. Toilet facilities available. Ample parking. Safe.

Free entry. Insightful and painful history, even if only a snapshot. You can cover everything in 20 - 30 minutes. Staff, Fiikile was patient and pleasant, although I arrived at 12noon on Saturday and they closed at 12:30p.

Fantastic place where to stay even for the whole day. It could look at the first moment as a bit overcrowded but that's the magic of this place. People here are just sharing their joy and funny time. A lot of options were to grab some snacks or some different beach food such as ice cream or soft drinks. There is also plenty of restaurants or coffee shops so here is everything for the while day. Park
Mitchell Park Zoo, located in the Morningside suburb of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, offers a delightful family outing with its diverse collection of animals and rich history. Originally an ostrich farm dating back to 1910, this zoo now houses a variety of small animals from around the world, including giant tortoises, crocodiles, raccoons, wallabies, monkeys and numerous bird species in the walk-through aviary.
I visited this place for the first time and was honestly astonished! It’s so well-maintained and absolutely lovely. I enjoyed seeing all the animals, but I was really on a mission —to make sure the kitties were well-fed! I absolutely love the initiative of the cat feedings. The cats are so well taken care of, and it truly warms my heart to see them getting the love and care they deserve.
Shauneez B — Google review
Small zoos, not many big attractions it's basically like a bird park. There are beautiful peacocks that walk freely around the area and nice small well maintained enclosures. Would recommend for kids who love animals
Kaelin K — Google review
It was Okay . I've been going there from the time I was small , the park has changed alot . I wish there was a restaurant in the Zoo so you can eat in there cause there's no restaurants anywhere else . The park was kind of unkept , flower gardens were good , it was a Quiet day for a Saturday. The entrance fees were really low under R20 per person . Some of the enclosures were empty and there's only bushes. The reptile house was dirty and I think it was closed but there's still spiders in it , hope they are taken care of . Some of the enclosures seem small for the animals. Like so many birds in a small cage . I feel like they need more space . Overall I love the park and will be back
Shweta B — Google review
Well kept and maintained. A better job can be done and a revamp is required. Lovely place to go with family for a picnic and visit the zoo. Lots of birds and animals to see. Fabulous memories are made here. On weekends come before 12pm for a good spot

what an exciting surprise....the Alpaca's....oh my word....absolutely amazing. Sadly the Zoo is not as i remember it....lots of empty and broken enclosures.... Still worth a visit. Hopefully it will be restored soon. The play area/jungle gym is closed,my son was extremely disappointed.

Beautiful upon entrance into the picnic gardens, Zoo is run down and unkempt, overgrown cages filled with weeds, workers were chopping down cycads and flowers , instead of weeding and trimming. Pity there is no more restaurant, but still an enjoyable outing for families
Trudy B — Google review
Beautiful kept gardens and plenty picnic space. Mitchell Park has changed their variety of animals but it's still worth the visit. There are no longer 🐇🐰 bunny rabbits and different species of monkeys and they have added new animals since we were last there. My suggestion for improvement would be to add a light in the dark room so the fishtank with the turtle is visible as the animals in the tanks in the dark room can barely be seen even by shining a cellph light. There were quite a few empty cages. Toilets were clean and staff onsite friendly and polite. All in all a lovely day, will be back ☺️

The Durban Natural Science Museum, located in the heart of the city at the City Hall, is a popular destination for visitors. Despite its small size, it offers an excellent introduction to Africa's diverse wildlife, featuring exhibits on past and present life on Earth. The museum showcases a variety of stuffed animals including elephants, leopards, wild dogs, and vervet monkeys. Additionally, there are displays of plants, birds, reptiles, and insects.
Great for an afternoon visit. All exhibits are amazing and very lifelike. Had a great time and learned a-lot about all the different wildlife we have in Southern Africa. Wasn’t crowded or busy at all and the staff were very helpful. Definitely a worthwhile experience.

The Natural Science Museum has a wonderful array of bird, animal and insect life native to Southern Africa. The exhibits are well kept and the murals are stunning! Definitely lots to enjoy and learn as you wonder through at your own pace.

Very impressive natural history museum in downtown Durban. This museum rivals the fauna diorama displays at the New York Natural Science Museum. Special highlights include an almost complete skeleton of a non extinct Dodo bird. There are full size taxidermy animals for just about every species you would expect to see on a safari game drive including a small giraffe, white and black rhinos and even an elephant! The bird gallery was amazing. I wish we had come here before going to Kruger NP. Don't loiter outside the building for too long (although it is beautiful to look at) as the neighbourhood is sketchy.

A fascinating museum with a wide range of exhibits that make science and history come alive. The displays are educational, engaging, and perfect for both adults and children. I particularly enjoyed the dinosaur and wildlife sections, which are impressive and very well presented. Entry was smooth and quick, and the visit was definitely worth it. A great place to learn and explore in Durban!

Great small museum with some classic Sth African displays. Includes an effort to educate on climate change and conservation as well. It was great to see plenty of locals coming through when we were there. No cost except the "parking attendants"...

The Golden Mile in Durban is a vibrant stretch of beachfront promenade that offers a variety of activities and attractions. Visitors can enjoy sunbathing, swimming, and surfing at the uninterrupted 4km-long beach, which is lined with craft stalls, fishing spots, and pavement cafes. The area also features 5-star hotels, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs along the promenade.
Beautiful promenade. Could have a walk there any day of the week! Lots of places to stop for an early morning coffee or a meal/drink later in the day. Everything is mostly well kept and relatively clean. The point promenade is a great addition, so a round trip can be close to 15km now.
Thomas M — Google review
If the weather is great, the Golden Mile is one of the best places to take a leisurely walk solo or with some company. There are also enough piers for one to be overcrowded. It's also a great place for cycling or learning to cycle/skate/rollerblade... I found it long enough from one end to the other for cycling. There are parts of the mile that aren't well kept though, which is sad.

MINITOWN is a nonprofit park that has been open since 1969 and offers miniature replicas of city landmarks at a 1:24 scale. Located on Durban's beachfront, it provides an enjoyable outing for families and kids with moving models of planes, trains, a circus with animals, and even a movable bridge for passing ships. The attraction also includes several of Durban's landmark buildings and a tug boat navigating its own miniature dock.
The kids love it, for the first time they feel like real giants in this Mini town... The town is well kept and it was a great outing for the morning... So much creativity by the artists...

Mini Town is a hidden gem! The miniature city is impressive and very well designed, making it fun for both kids and adults. Walking around the small-scale models gives a different perspective and makes the visit truly enjoyable. It’s a perfect stop for families, school trips, or anyone curious to see Durban in a unique way. Definitely worth a visit!

It was cute and a nice little stop for foreign visitors to Durban. As a Durbanite, i expected a little more, but still thought it worth the price. The detail in some of the set ups were pretty impressive and you can walk through the different 'exhibits' for a closer look. There is a facility to buy snacks and drinks. We've were there for about 30 minutes. Saw a school trip at mini town with a guide talking about some of the structures that represented building in Durban from a couple of years ago. That was a nice touch.

With its warm waters and skilled lifeguards on duty year-round, Addington Beach is great for swimming, scuba diving, and surfing.
Superb Sunday 10am swim. Yes, it's hot, yes, the sand can burn But the water was calm and awesome with playful waves and little crowd. Excellent pre-brunch activity with promenade walkway.

Amazing beach, lovely water and great atmosphere, however lifeguard on duty claiming to be a senior lifeguard had a lot of attitude sitting for shade by lifeguard duty stand. The privately developed section features open-air restaurants on an expansive wooden deck, providing a pleasant atmosphere to admire the harbor view while enjoying a meal or drink.
Was a fantastic outing. We had breakfast at Spur and then went on a harbour cruise and thankfully weather was good and went out the harbour. Wow, loved every minute.

Wilson's Wharf is a charming spot in Durban, on the KwaZulu-Natal east coast, offering a delightful mix of relaxation, entertainment, and scenic beauty. Whether you're a local or a visitor, this waterfront destination has something for everyone. Visitors can expect scenic views, boat rides, restaurants and cafes, shopping and other fun activities. The wharf offers stunning views of the Durban harbour, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll or a relaxing meal. One of the highlights is the boat rides available at the wharf. Whether you're looking for a short harbour cruise or a more adventurous speed boat ride, there's an option for every thrill-seeker. Wilson's Wharf is home to several eateries, including great seafood restaurants, known for its delicious seafood and pizza. The ambiance is perfect for a family meal or a romantic dinner. The wharf also features various activities, especially the boat rides, picnics, and cultural tours. It's a great place to spend a day with family or friends. There are a few shops and boutiques where you can find souvenirs, local crafts, and more. Its family-friendly,  with activities for all ages. It offers a variety of options, from dining to entertainment, there's something for everyone. Most of all, it offers a beautiful setting and the waterfront location provides a picturesque backdrop for photos and relaxation. The downside is that during peak times, the wharf can get quite crowded, which might affect the overall experience and certain areas could benefit from better upkeep, especially in terms of cleanliness and maintenance.

One of my favorite places to be, with so many food choices to eat at, to the beautiful view of the bay. With many activities like boat rides, fishing or just relaxing listening to music. Some of the restaurants you can eat at are spur, mozambik, julios, John dory's, house of curry's. Perfect place to spend the afternoon of a sunny day
Stephanie U — Google review
It's been years since I've been to Wilson's Wharf. There a few restaurants that include Spur, Mozambique and John Dory's on the peer side. The main entrance has 1 restaurant that serves drinks too. However the many stalls and little shops that use to be inside are quite sparse. Only boat trips seem to make this area an attraction and if people are within the area looking for something to eat, go to these restaurants. A landmark in Durban that truly needs to be revamped. For myself and the many older people that once came to this bustling full of life spot, it is a sad decline. 🥺
Natasha V — Google review
10/10 for the boat cruise. The food at Spur was delicious. The staff is very friendly. However, the fact that its absolutely filthy is concerning. You can literally take 5 guys, 5 net scoops and plastic bags and they'll have it cleaned within a few hours. There's trash everywhere. Between the boats, in ramps, floating all over the place. This really is sad to see that's there's no respect for the ocean and the wharf. What does management even do? It's a big eye sore and would look beautiful if the bottles and plastic would just be picked up. There were a lot of people from over seas and their remarks alone wasn't great due to the filth scattered about. Please do something about this ASAP.

The zen oriental garden boasts Japanese water features and wooden bridges, attracting various water birds to its ponds.
Japanese Garden : 6 Prospect Hall Rd, Prospect Hall, Durban North, 4051 This is a very beautiful, peaceful Garden. It is an ideal picnic spot for family gatherings, parties and events. It includes braai areas, swings, toilets and safe parking. It's free to visit. Enjoy a fun day with family and friends. The most important elements in a Japanese Garden is this: Stone; which symbolizes longevity, the omnipresence of natural forces. Water is the second: As it makes its way through the Garden, the water undergoes a number of changes of pace. It flows along in winding streams or accumulates in the pond. The third is Plants: The choice of plants for a Japanese garden is based on their value or significance throughout the seasons. Each season offers its unique atmosphere.

A great park to have in an ideal location. This park has been around for a long time and is much needed for the surrounding folk and even neighboring communities Sufficient well spaced parking under great shaded trees. The area is a safe place to travel to and easily accessible. The whole that surrounds the park is well kept with high level maintenance. The facilities at the park is in need of some attention, especially the toilet. There can be an addition to the present and also greater upkeep and repairs. The Pick & Pay Hypermarket is close by and provides for an ideal opportunity to shop for all the necessary. Great to see the park still well supported. Also ample play areas for kids and adults. Would highly recommend for a wonderful experience

It has a vintage feel to it, very clean. Quite a few monkey's there, that made me so uncomfortable. The monkey's didnt bother us though. It was fairly clean, I'd say the upkeep is as good as it could possibly considering the municipality as a whole never takes care of anything, but its much better than most parks.

Entrance is free and there are lots of volunteer park rangers walking around interacting and educating the public. We had a very nice hike there. However, they don't have any printed maps to give you at the gate, and the large map is so faded that you can't clearly see the different hikes and lengths of each hike. We went with 2 small children, and although the hike itself was good, we did take a few wrong turns, as it's not clearly marked. The map situation and markers need to be upgraded urgently.

Thanks to this centre many talented artists have received international acclaim for their work.

So if you are looking for that perfect, uniquely African gift for anyone and you haven't been down to the uShaka World Village Walk retail area - you should do yourself a favour and head down there. You will find a relaxed retail atmosphere with an assortment of shops - with flip flops fitting right in on this walk! I discovered a true little gem of Durban along the route - The African Art Centre. It is a fitting example of a truly spectacular collection of Local Artists' work - on display for sale. The old nik-naks found on the Durban beachfronts - aimed at the tourists which frequent Durban in the School Holidays, have no place in this art & craft gallery. Instead, there are intricately carved and brandished wooden African animal characters such as Peacocks, Owls & Rhinos - each with their own unique touches - with no two pieces being alike. You will also find brightly coloured intricate beadwork, fantastically complex basket weaving and exquisite jewellery in the form of beaded necklaces and bangles - displaying a rich tapestry of vibrant colours and geometric patterns. Not only are you supporting an indigenous 'cultural experience' which gives struggling artists a backbone for survival, but you will be warmed by the distinctively African feel of your affordable purchase. There is a larger selection of arts & crafts available at the headquarters - the Phansi Museum, situated at 500 Esther Roberts Road in Glenwood. A definite two thumbs up for adding to quality Durban Tourism!! Local is Lekker.

They have the largest selection of handmade wooden animals where the colors and expressions are burnt into the wood. Huge selection of jewelry and holiday ornaments. They also have one of the best selections of telephone wire work in South Africa. Prices are less than you will find at most places in Durban and elsewhere in South Africa. Definitely worth checking the AAC out. It is a quick Uber or Taxi ride from downtown and elsewhere in the Durban area.

It was so good to to be there, brought back memories. It was also good to see so many people, it was a great time sad for the last time. A big heart felt thank you to Mr. Stain for the Fun World may God bless him. Thanks

A little bit let go but I can imagine a whole lot of kids enjoying themselves here. Having been existing for quite a number of years, kids grow up and bring their children here. We did the cableway and although our hearts raced at the height, it was worth the beautiful view of funland and the ocean. We got a beautiful photo of ourselves on the ride for only R30

I know it's closing in May 2023 but I can see why. The stench of urine on the walls, the leaking ablutions on the roadside and the vomit on the stairs is enough to chase any possible holiday maker. It's sad that the pools in the front haven't been filled in more than 6 years, probably because they would be used as toilets or laundry facilities. Durban is in a very sad state.

It needed revamping .Painting Will make it look more appealing but kids still enjoy to be around there

For only 50 rands you will do on a fun ride with an amazing view of the waterfront! Yes it is 100% worth it. Just buy a ticket at the ticket booth and a guy will take a picture of you in a professional camera. When you come back down, he will already have it printed out in three different paper. 90 rand for the three of them, he can even send you the pictures by WhatsApp. Great experience!
Myriam S — Google review
Its a nice place to be at with the kids, the rides are fun and they have rides for both kids and adults but it can be so crowded and i wish they can add more exhilàrating rides

Very bland and uneventful. It feels like you are in an abandoned theme park with some random music playing in the background. They should renovate the place.

The Chairman is a stylish jazz bar located in downtown Durban, designed by local architects DGIT. The venue offers a unique experience with its quirky and eclectic furnishings, including soft leather couches, chandeliers, and artworks on exposed-brick walls. It's open from Thursday to Saturday and features live music and DJs. The sophisticated environment provides an ideal setting for enjoying cocktails, whiskies, cigars, as well as bar snacks like pizza and tapas.
Now I knw what most would say if you’re from Durban or if you google this area it’s dodge and well one has to drive or uber pass the rougher end of downtown to get here but once you enter the waterfront precinct: on street cameras , point patrol cars and street points men add some sense of safety - not 100% but some … Now for the Chairman: Long over due revival of this needed iconic jazz club… with its cozy nook spots scattered throughout the floor plan , antique pieces of furniture, icon pictures on the walls , oh and clean toilet facilities /powder area …always a plus at an evening establishment

I’ve gone to a few jazz nights here & I absolutely love what they’re doing for the culture, especially for jazz music and just music as a whole. Their DJ also plays really cool music to listen and vibe to. The atmosphere & decor is really cool & it’s really a cool space. The food is a little limited but going there for the music is worth it. Love their alcoholic drinks as well.

Peaceful during the day and an absolute vibe during live music sessions. Mellow. The ambience here is amazing, and the art, pieces of furniture, and other features are just breathtaking. Loved this.little gem of a place. The waitress was very friendly and accommodating. They didn't have a certain veggies for a meal I ordered so I suggested they tailor it ro what was on hand...meal turned out absolutely scrumptious...was the cous cous salad..loved it will definitely go back . The art was intriguing and I enjoyed the set up and different styles of creativity...an art lovers paradise. I recommend it as a laid-back place where education meets fun on a beautiful level. A must to go see.

The space is brilliant for art exhibitors. The gallery is small wil some fine pieces. There is plenty of seating space for patrons and even a stage area. On the other hand the Cafe is average at most. The food is freshly prepared, but the portions and are miserly plated. Don't let the sent of coffee brewing fool you, the coffee is substandard. Visit to support the art movement and a quick nibble.

A beautifully curated space that lets the art breathe. Clean lines, great light, and a thoughtful mix of emerging and established KZN artists. The shop and cafe make it easy to linger. A true anchor for Durban’s creative community.

Always love coming here not only for the art but the cafe and shop. Lovely space.
Nosipho N — Google review
KZNSA (KwaZulu-Natal Society of Arts) blends crisp, subtropical modernism with a relaxed, community feel. The street face is pared back—whitewashed brick, slim steel frames, big glass—and along the garden edge deep louvered screens and a light canopy cast patterned shade, creating that easy inside–outside flow. Inside, the tall white-cube gallery is calm and flexible; the shop stacks up like a creative loft with a steel mezzanine; and the café runs through a long, high space with stepped brick flooring and beautiful, filtered daylight. I went specifically to get some work done and it delivered. The Wi-Fi was solid and there were plenty of people on laptops, which gave the place a focused, productive energy. The outdoor terrace is shaded and easy-going—perfect for catching up with friends between tasks. I had a light meal (pretty good) and the chocolate cake was excellent. Service was friendly and attentive; the waiters were great. Verdict: As a café/art centre combo, it’s welcoming, unpretentious, and well designed—good shade, good air, good sightlines. I’m giving it 3/5 for now, not as a knock on the venue, but because I haven’t sampled enough of the menu to make a full five-star call yet. I’ll update after a few more visits.
Nhlalonhle M — Google review
A beautiful gallery to visit with new exhibits regularly on display. The accompanying shop has an excellent variety and range of truly African craft on offer and you’re guaranteed to find something to take home. The cafe and restaurant serves a lovely offering well presented and priced with vegetarian options. Definitely worth a visit.

uShaka Sea World, located in Durban, South Africa, is a vibrant marine life center and the fifth largest aquarium globally. It boasts 32 tanks with a total of 17,500 cubic meters of water and is home to an array of sea creatures including various shark species, large rays, moray eels, gamefish, and other large fish species. Visitors can enjoy entertaining dolphin shows, seal shows, penguin presentations, shark-tank dives and ray feeds.
🏖️ 3. uShaka Beach and Village Walk Located right next to the ocean, with easy beach access. uShaka is always a lovely place to visit when coming to Durban.

uShaka Marine World is an incredible place to visit!

What a great experience at uShaka Marine World! We wandered through the aquarium and honestly lost track of time—quiet walkways, huge viewing windows, and that lovely hush when a turtle glides past. Even the “non-fish people” in our group ended up pointing things out and taking way too many photos. Outside had a fun, holiday feel. We grabbed an easy lunch, drifted between shops, and caught a dolphin show without planning to—perfect little break for our feet. Salty air, friendly staff, and plenty of shady spots made it an effortless day out. We left sun-tired, smiling, and already talking about coming back.
Warren L — Google review
uShaka is a beautiful big place to do alot of things, inreally think they did an outstanding job with the layout.

It's very disappointing. Beach isn't clean , and it needs a very big clean. The grass island is also dirty. There is so much potential at this Beach. Expect random to come up to asking for money for their shelter, generally just for money and cigarettes if they see you smoking. No fishermen in site, used to normal to see people fishing. Durban Cruise Boat offers a variety of boat rides to explore the Indian Ocean, including sailing boats, yachts, cruise boats, and speed boats. You can also enjoy activities like scuba diving and ocean swimming while spotting marine animals such as dolphins, whales, and sharks. The educational cruise at Wilson's Wharf provides informative commentary from the driver while offering a calm and relaxing experience on the water. Additionally, visitors can appreciate the good views and affordable boat ride options available.
Wow... what a fantastic trip ... felt like a school kid again, loved the wave bobbing. ... learnt it's better to be at the helm or front of the cruiser than at the back (personally) ... felt turning back at the Harbour entrance was a but too short a ride... but I guess there's rules. Pilot gave the passengers some good insight in terms of certain activities and scenes within the Harbour. Views of the esplanade and promenade are awesome. It's good to see so many folks using these cruises to enhance good family time and to chill out friends. Photographer prior to boarding, printed, and ready for collection on your return (for a fee), optional to purchase or not. Restaurants close on hand to dine ... beautiful atmosphere 👌 Highly recommended

It was a good trip. The boat was a bit full with people for a party 🥳 🎉. So a person did not really want to sit and invade their space. Also sea was a bit rough so we did not go out of the harbor althou other boats were passing us to go out.
Le N — Google review
Beautiful experience if you haven’t had a ride please make time 😝 Highly recommend it.
Nondumiso M — Google review
Took a boat ride at Wilson's Wharf, was my first educational cruise😁. Our driver was informative in a nice way. It was a nice cruise, expected some waves but there really wasn't any adrenaline rush. Only there was were small waves (the ones without any foam). Up side to this place is you can order whiles you wait for your cruise time.
Phumla M — Google review
A beautiful boating experience indeed. R130 per person for 1 hour and there are photos taken just before you board and they only cost R50 for a print out. You are allowed to bring your drinks for entertainment and children are also allowed.

Also showers are change are available and secured. Quite peaceful.

I'm so happy that they cater for doggies and they allow them to run free and enjoy themselves on the beach. Durban needs more of this. Very clean and safe and worth going to. I love Ushaka beach.

The Heart Market, previously located at Moses Mabhida Stadium, has recently moved to Northlands Primary School. This market is dedicated to supporting local artisans and the community by offering a wide range of products such as baked goods, cured meats, food from diverse food trucks, hand-crafted jewelry, natural skin care products, clothing, leather goods, ceramics and more. The market also hosts festive events with Christmas decorations and gift ideas.
Fantastic market, that is truly a craft market. All the things sold are made by the stall holders. Here one can get things that is not sold in shops. From, candles, soaps, organic food, healing remedies, cheese and cutting boards to the most beautiful plants. A wonderful stall with fragrant, colorful beautiful candles is a favorite of mine. At this stall you get something for as little R20 to beautiful gift boxes that will melt the heart of any mother. The market is held to support Heart Health and the premises is oh, so clean safe and efficiently run. It is held on the 1st Saturday of each month. It is must event on your calendar.
Jason C — Google review
Best high end market to support local. No imported, cheap and nasty things on sale. Lovely aircon hall for hot summer days. Something for everyone. Definitely worth a visit.
Jo R — Google review
This was my first time going to the I Heart Market and I was so excited to go but when we got there I was a little disappointed. I expected more stalls to be present, especially food stalls which is the reason I love going to markets😁 I think it will be lovely once there's a variety of stalls present especially in terms of food and snacks where as now its very limited in my opinion. The location however is awesome, great place to spend the day with family or friends and amazing for kids. I would definitely visit again once there's more stalls.
Marshni P — Google review
Vibrant, entertaining, relaxing, a lovely spot to spent ones Saturday mornjng - even if it is just to sit under the beautiful huge trees or on the grassy area and just observe the surroundings. Lots of interesting items available for sale especially the home made items - arts and crafts etc. Plenty food stalls to choose a snack or light meal. Good spot for the enter family.
Kasthurie G — Google review
An awesome way to start your Saturday morning. There are different stalls to buy food and clothes amongst other things. It’s a safe place to bring your children and pets.
26Nhlanhla — Google review
Nice outdoor seating. Still prefer the lawns and trees for shade of the other venue. But still a good hangout spot for a Saturday morning. Fresh food, local trade.
Taryn M — Google review
Trendy market hosted on the first Saturday of every month. I've been a few times and on one occasion I enjoyed a delicious chicken spicy chow mein. It was divine. And a fresh juice which was so yummm. There's plenty to do, eat and enjoy. From local made clothing and accessories to home industry food, beer and delicious desserts that get sold out in a flash. There's live music and henna artists. It's a bustling market jam packed with the best of local everything!

New Pier Beach, also referred to as Dairy Beach, is situated on Durban's Golden Mile and serves as a popular surf location in the city due to its consistent beach break. Optimal surfing conditions are achieved when there is a southwesterly breeze, which generates an ideal eastern swell angle. This wave can be effectively ridden both to the right and the left.
Ah, it’s so nice to see a pier that’s clean and tidy, safe for family and friend to take a long walk, run, cycle or just hangout. There are boards signs for your location information so you’ll know where everything is around you. The beaches are full of awesome people having fun. Plenty of food vendors around so you’ll always have chow. There are a lot of really nice restaurants if you and your family would like to sit down for lunch or simply have a nice cold drink. Love this new pier!

Nice place to be! Brilliant views of the Durban beachfront. Saw quite a lot of large fish swimming past below us, and it was cool to watch the learner surfers doing their stuff right next to us, as the pier goes right out to backline. The pier is nice and spacious so there's no problem with walking along there. We were also able to push a wheelchair along there quite easily, so access is great. Enjoyed my time there.

It's New Pier or Pier 1, Health and Safety is 1 priority and thereafter rules entering premise is followed, tight security process. Thereafter, Transnet officials like a site supervisor are there to guide trucks entering or waiting for the time of their pick-up appointment, truck have to follow the guidelines to of lanes too follow, in order to pick-up their freight container.

Access to the beach was easy, with the casino side having a lot of restaurants. Wifi good, plenty parking areas. Breakfast had a variety of options. Value for money Ask for room on the upper floor to take advantage of the ocean views.

Revisiting the ice rink after many years I was impressed with the service. On the ice were marshalls to assist the skaters. Hiring a seal was worthwhile for the kids, it allowed them to manoeuvre on the ice.The toilets were clean & the ice cafe is halaal with plenty of seating.
Firdos H — Google review
There is no longer an ice rink here, it has been fully converted to a events/function venue. A very under rated one which not many ppl know about. There are many options for functions of different capacities. The owner himself offered us a tour. The problem tho is that there is no parking available for guests attending a function -u are offers to use a parking lot down the road, but to walk that way esp at night in durban is def not safe, then to do that is perhaps fancy clothes/heels is a no no.

Hoy Park in Durban is a popular venue for various sports such as netball, softball, baseball, and soccer. It is particularly known as a training ground for netball players. The park offers ample parking space and attentive security guards. However, the facilities are in need of maintenance, especially the toilets and drainage system. Despite its popularity among sports enthusiasts, there are concerns about its standard not being suitable for major tournaments and leagues.
