The Castillo de San Marcos National Monument is a historic fort that offers self-guided tours, allowing visitors to explore from the drawbridge to the gun deck while enjoying views of Matanzas Bay. Situated in St. Augustine, it was built from 1672-1695 and served as a Spanish Empire post. Made from coquina, a locally sourced stone-like compound, the fort was never taken in battle.
This historic fort and museum is a must-visit! The grounds are beautifully maintained, and the staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sharing the area's rich history. We enjoyed exploring the exterior, where we spotted sea turtles, dolphins, and even a manatee at 6 p.m. The views of the sea are stunning, and the architecture is impressive. While we didn't take the tour, the self-guided walk around the grounds was enjoyable and informative. Parking is convenient, although it's best to arrive early to secure a spot and take great photos. Don't forget sunscreen, as the sun can be strong. The fort offers a fascinating glimpse into Spanish history and its significance in the United States. Overall, it's a humbling experience that's perfect for history buffs and families alike.

Very cool fort with great views. It was an extremely hot day so I highly recommend bringing a bottle of water with you and maybe even a small towel. 🥵There were 2 main levels and you could self guide yourself through it although they had a guided tour option. There was zero shade when you’re up on the top but you were able to see where they had the old firing cannons which was super cool. As you walk through each room they had plenty of artifacts and information which was helpful to understand. I felt that it was very well maintained and full of rich history! They do offer bathrooms inside as well.

In the heart of St. Augustine, Florida, a city steeped in history, the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument rises as a beacon of the past. Completed in 1695 after 23 years of painstaking labor that began in 1672, this breathtaking structure stands as a testament to Spanish ingenuity and determination. Originally conceived as a fortress to safeguard their treasures and secrets, its immaculate architecture commands attention, overlooking one of St. Augustine's most picturesque vistas. Though tours offer an immersive experience within its walls, even a glimpse from the exterior reveals the monument's unparalleled grandeur. Constructed from unique Coquina stone, the walls exhibit a mesmerizing mosaic of tiny shells, a strategic choice that proved impervious to English sieges. Today, the Castillo stands resolute, each piece of Coquina holding echoes of the past, while the land upon which it rests cradles everlasting memories along the bay. As visitors approach, they are transported back in time, captivated by the stories etched into every stone. The Castillo de San Marcos not only stands as a physical structure but also as a living narrative, preserving the legacy of those who built and defended it. Its enduring presence ensures that the tales of courage, strategy, and cultural heritage will continue to captivate and inspire generations to come.

This was an amazing experience, I enjoyed visiting the Castillo de San Marcos. The history here is incredible — it really feels like stepping back in time. The fort itself is beautiful, and the views of the water are awesome. The cannons were definitely my favorite part. It’s just one of those places that makes you appreciate how much history St. Augustine has to offer. Highly recommend it, go during the day and at night.
Sergio C — Google review
Very cool historic castle to tour! The top offers a great view of the water and surrounding area, plus old cannons you can check out. On the ground level there are multiple rooms to explore, each with interesting displays and information about the history of the fort. You can also see step-by-step demonstrations of how soldiers would load and fire the cannons as well as their muskets, which is really fascinating. The staff dressed in Spanish army costumes brought the place to life and made the whole experience feel even more authentic. Definitely worth visiting if you’re interested in history or just want to see something unique.
Carson S — Google review
The people who work there are kind and thoughtful. The restrooms are clean, and stalls are plentiful. It's a good place to relax, learn about the area and city, take a few pictures, and even shop for bargains. Because of the government shutdown, not everything is availablem

The Castillo de San Marcos is always well worth the visit. The structure alone clearly articulates its history and its various functions from the 17th through the 20th centuries The grounds are well-maintained by the NPS and are excellent for walking. This fort is one of the many treasures that makes Saint Augustine the beautiful city that it is. To see the ancient walls lit up at night is breathtaking.
Edward B — Google review
Very cool to see and great read about the history of the fortress that was built by the Spanish over 450 years ago. It was built to defend Florida and the Atlantic trade route. My family and I were on a family vacation and visited the historic fortress on a Tuesday morning, so it wasn’t crowed. Parking spots were available because we got there before it opened (9:00am eastern time). There’s a parking meter in the parking lot. There were 22 of us going to see the fort and only paid $50 for everyone! My mother/father in law got in for free because they’re seniors. I think each senior can have up to four grandchildren that can center for free; there were a total of 12 grandchildren. My mother in law also has an annual park pass so that gave her additional discounts! If you have it, ask them about any discount. If you’re in the area, stop by and see the history and the view. It would have been more enjoyable for me if the weather was a little cooler 😅. They have cannons and many rooms you can enter. Each door you enter, there’s a history you can read about it. There’s also a theater room you can enter and watch a documentary about how the fortress came about. Of course, before you leave the fortress- stop by the gift shop!

Nestled in the heart of St. Augustine, the Lightner Museum is a treasure trove of Victorian-era artifacts and 19th-century decorative arts, all housed within the stunning former Alcazar Hotel, built by Henry Flagler in 1888. This architectural gem showcases an eclectic collection that ranges from exquisite Tiffany glass and fine furniture to peculiar curiosities like shrunken heads and human hair art.
Really enjoyed visiting the Lightner Museum in St. Augustine. Admission was $20 and ends at 4pm and they close at 5pm, I see a lot of people mix up the times. The building itself is beautiful and full of history, and the exhibits have a nice mix of art, antiques, and interesting old items. The old swimming pool area turned into a display space. It’s a relaxing place to wander through at your own pace. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re exploring the area. Bathrooms available through out the building.
Carson S — Google review
The Lightner Museum is definitely worth a visit, with a beautiful historic building and an impressive collection of art and antiques. The architecture alone makes it a special stop, and there’s a lot to see throughout the different floors. That said, it leans more toward being an art gallery than a traditional museum, which might not be what everyone expects. Still, it’s a great place to spend a couple of hours, and I’d give it 4 stars for the atmosphere, history, and variety on display.
Mike M — Google review
I am a wedding photographer and I hosted my wedding in the courtyard at the Lightner Museum, my team photographed our wedding and it was everything I hoped for! Despite the work they were doing on the courtyard, everything turned out amazing!!! Staff was amazing, the venue is gorgeous and so much history. I loved every moment. As a wedding photographer, we have photographed weddings at the Lightner Museum and just like my very own wedding day, it is beautiful and everything every bride dreams of. If you are looking for a ceremony venue, this is it!

If you like historic, unique and beautiful museums then you will enjoy this. You have the option of being self guided or with a guide so I opted for self. While I’m not a history buff I did enjoy walking around to the different levels to see how they sectioned off each rooms and area. A couple of my favorite rooms were the stained glass, timeline of the evolution of bicycles, and the crystal and glass room. Each room had its own story and when you get to the end there’s a beautiful courtyard looking down of where you can enjoy lunch at their cafe! It took me about 30 minutes to complete at a quicker pace but it could take up to 45 mins or longer. There were a handful of beautiful pockets to take pictures at outside as well and a cute little gift shop on your way out.
Nina C — Google review
Step into another world perhaps a better world. Beauty and thoughtfulness surround you. What a brilliant contrast to the throw away culture we now inhabit. Imagine a world where people are proud to put their names on things without hiding behind pseudonyms and handles. Imagine making things that can be resold and work long after their creators have collected their eternal reward.
James B — Google review
Lightner museum is a beautiful museum inside and out with beautiful architecture and beautiful artwork, musical instruments, furniture pieces, and many other different collections from the Guilded age! Definitely a must see!

We really enjoyed the beautifully curated selection. The mummy and lion were impressive and unexpected. Nice use of negative space. Felt full without being cluttered. The docents were knowledgeable and effective at directing and educating us. The scavenger hunts were fun and the prize at the end was very nice. Will come again every time in St Augustine.

The Lightner Museum in St. Augustine is stunning. I loved the mix of art, history, and architecture — every room felt like stepping back into the Gilded Age. The building is a masterpiece with its Spanish Renaissance design, beautiful courtyard, and incredible details throughout. From antique instruments and glasswork to fine art and historic artifacts, everything was thoughtfully displayed.

The Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park in Florida is a fascinating destination for history enthusiasts and families alike. This expansive park features a 16th-century Spanish settlement, complete with historic village sites and cannons. Visitors can embark on an educational journey through St. Augustine's Spanish Colonial times and Native American culture, making it an ideal spot for kids to learn about human history while having fun.
What a fantastic place to visit! It was definitely a highlight of my vacation! The people working there are amazing! Friendly..professional..extremely knowledgeable. The young woman telling about the fountain was amazing. I could have listened to her all day. The blacksmith demonstration was great. I learned quite a bit there and then the cannon demonstration along with the rifle demonstration was very interesting. I recommend this to everyone. I will definitely be coming back to tour again.

This is the second time I've visit and it still amazes me. 😁 I'm hoping 🤞that drinking the water will keep me young! There are several things to explore. If you have a good stomach, it could be an experience drinking 🍸 the water. It has a mild sulfur taste to it. I would recommend this place. Happy exploring! If this was helpful to you, please send me a 🙏👍 or ❤️... Have fun!!!

The Fountain of Youth is without a doubt one of the top attractions you have to see when visiting St. Augustine. There’s so much to do here—it can easily take 2–3 hours to see everything, and if you stop to watch all the shows, you could easily spend the entire day. I especially enjoyed the firearm and cannon demonstrations, which were both fascinating and impressive when they were fired. The staff really make the experience even better—everyone I met was friendly and very knowledgeable. A special shout-out to the gentleman by the boat, who patiently answered all my questions and shared so much interesting information. This is definitely a must-visit spot!
Mike M — Google review
This the oldest continuous American settlement in the country and a super cool place to visit if your in striking distance of the St Augustine area. I mean come one, how could you not want to have a drink from the fountain of youth?! All jokes aside, for $22 this is a very neat experience.
A R — Google review
This place was super cool, mainly for me because of the peacocks! They were everywhere and so beautiful. They were also planning a wedding there which I can imagine would be beautiful. Oh and a pigeon landed on my hand when I was feeding the birds which was the coolest thing ever.
Caroline M — Google review
This had meticulously maintained grounds. Loved the peacocks, the history, drinking from the fountain. The whole group stayed very engaged from 10 years old up until mid 80's. We cannot wait to come back and continue exploring.
Elena I — Google review
I would give it 5 stars because it was a great experience, so many fun history lessons/ sights however... the "fountain of youth" was NOT ground water. It was replaced with city water. That was the only disappointment. Feeding the birds and squirrels was so much fun!
Dusti E — Google review
We took a trolley tour to get here and got to enjoy the beautiful trees with Spanish Moss hanging from the branches as we entered the Historic Fountain of Youth park. You can buy your tickets at the entrance and either take the guided tour or do a self-tour with the map they give you. We did the self tour and were there for about 3 hours in order to see everything. I watched as my daughter climbed up to the top of the water tower to see the beautiful views and photo ops. We also checked out the Fountain of Youth and drank from it. However, we have not become younger looking. Oh well. We also watched the cannon shooting demonstrations. The tour was worth going on. Tickets were $23 per adult. The gift shop was great with all kinds of cool items about Ponce de Leon and the Fountain of Youth. I loved the Southern BBQ restaurant on premises. Delicious BBQ sandwiches and more. You gotta try it! There is a large parking lot for free parking.

The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum offers a unique historical adventure with its 1874 black-and-white striped lighthouse, museum, and shipyard playground. Visitors can explore the National Historic Landmark and discover centuries-old artifacts while immersing themselves in the stories of local fishermen and shipwrecked sailors. The museum also showcases over 300 years of St.
The St. Augustine Lighthouse is a pretty cool place to check out if you’re in the area. Admission is a little over $17 per adult, which is on the higher side, but it does give you access to the lighthouse, the museum, and the grounds. The lighthouse climb itself is 219 steps, but it’s really not too bad and the view at the top is beautiful, you get a great look at the coastal front and surrounding area. On a hot day, the museum is a big relief with air conditioning and has some interesting history and artifacts to browse through. The gift shop is also nice, with a big selection of souvenirs ranging from smaller keepsakes to more detailed items. Overall, it’s a neat experience if you want to see one of St. Augustine’s landmarks up close.
Carson S — Google review
Cool place to check out if you’re in the area. The lighthouse was the main attraction of course and it has signs to let you know how far up and how much further you have left as you climbed it. Once you get to the top the views and breeze are nice. The stairs are very narrow so you have to stop and wait or let people go by sometimes. But it’s not a bad hike at all! The rest of the sites are self guided and in old buildings but are maintained. Most have AC which is where you found the most people with it being so hot. There’s plenty of information and artifacts in each part you entered. Unless you’re stopping to read everything, the tour goes by pretty quickly. I highly suggest bringing water with you if you’re going during the summer months.
Nina C — Google review
The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum is an absolute must-visit. The property is full of rich history, and the view from the top of the lighthouse is truly breathtaking. While the climb does involve a lot of steps, it is well worth the effort. Beyond the lighthouse itself, there’s so much to explore—from learning how boats were built to seeing how recovered artifacts are carefully cleaned and preserved. This site offers a wonderful mix of history, hands-on learning, and stunning scenery. Definitely worth a stop when visiting St. Augustine.

My wife and I went to the special event at the top of the beautiful historic lighthouse. The event is held once a month to watch the sunset and the full Moon rise. We were rewarded with a beautiful sunset and the full moon rise over the ocean was awesome. Our experience was seriously diminished by the male volunteer that was supposed to be pouring champagne for all the guests but seemed totally focused in looking after two younger women whose glass were always full while we had to ask several times for a second half glass. The volunteer attitude changed a five star experience to barely a three stars. In future please have the volunteer treat all guests equally. At the opposite end we wish to commend Tammy as very pleasant and helpful with information about the lighthouse and in passing food around.
Patrick L — Google review
This is a beautiful place set back in some trees, not far from water. There's plenty of history to learn and over 200 steps to reach the top, which has some beautiful views of the area. This is a worthwhile place to explore. The staff are very friendly and eager to answer questions or help.
Brian S — Google review
Wonderful place that is worth visiting if you are in Anastasia and Saint Augustine area. My kids and I had such a fun time climbing the stairs to reach the top of the Lighthouse, I was surprised how windy it can be! Just a great place to enjoy good time with the family and Learn a thing or two about how lighthouse used to work 150 years ago and how it works now. Highly recommended!

Lovely place to visit! Be prepared for the climb but once you get to the top, it is so worth it for the view. There was so many different buildings with a bunch of cool items and rich history. Villa Zorayda Museum is a historic home-turned-museum in St. Augustine, originally built in 1883 as the winter home of Franklin Webster Smith. The architecture is inspired by the Alhambra Palace in Spain and showcases Moorish Revival-style design, incorporating concrete and coquina shell construction. The museum features an eclectic collection of Victorian-era antiques and art, offering visitors a glimpse into 138 years of villa history.
One of the best things I saw in St Augustine. So beautiful and unusual. The items and furniture are original. Many unique and beautiful artworks. Renee at the entry desk was very helpful and knowledgeable.

I LOVE the aesthetic of this place! The decor & architecture are gorgeous! And the collection is fascinating. From cigar cutters to stained glass light fixtures and a princess staircase... who would have known from the outside? I also love the fact that this location served as a speakeasy during prohibition. Kind of puts things into perspective... you really feel the environment the cast of characters played in back then.
Emily H — Google review
Was very interesting and historical. Not sure how I feel about Egyptian artifacts as part of the Spanish settlement. Seems more like a display of what a rich and wealthy person might put together to demonstrate how exotic they could be at the turn of the last century.
Matt S — Google review
An exceptional peek into the gilded age of the late 19th century. The artifacts collected by the family are unusual and fascinating, reflecting the collector's love of antiquities and Moorish architecture. A helpful, self-guided audio tour is provided with the admission fee.
Merry S — Google review
This is a top-tier attraction, and perhaps my favorite thing I've ever done in St. Augustine. Every inch of this place is stunning, and there is so much omnipotent detail that you basically crawl through the residence at a snails pace to drink it in. You are given a device that gives you a tour as you walk through each room. The collections in this home and the home itself are truly treasure, and instead of describing what's inside, you can look at the pictures. There is a single room with a mind-blowing ancient Egyptian artifact that you are not allowed to photograph. The artifact itself looks cool, but the history behind it is what makes it wild and valuable. I'll save its identity for you to discover.

Wonderful museum! lots of history about the 1883 villa inspired by the 12th-century Moorish castle Alhambra in Spain. The home showcases amazing antiques from around the world.

Perfect — here’s a revised version of your raving review written in a warm, personal, and college-level tone, reflecting your visit with your partner: --- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My partner and I had an unforgettable experience at the Villa Zorayda Museum. From the moment we stepped inside, we were captivated by the intricate architecture and the sense of history that fills every corner. The Moorish-inspired design, with its colorful tiles, carved woodwork, and detailed ornamentation, felt like stepping into a storybook from another world. The self-guided audio tour was engaging and beautifully narrated, offering the perfect balance of history, art, and storytelling. We learned not only about the villa’s fascinating past and its visionary owner but also about how the collection came together over time. Each room revealed something new and unexpected, and we found ourselves marveling at the craftsmanship and the attention to detail throughout. Visiting together made the experience even more special—it’s one of those rare places that sparks both wonder and conversation. The staff were kind and welcoming, and the atmosphere was peaceful, almost enchanting. Villa Zorayda isn’t just a museum; it’s a cultural treasure that makes you appreciate art, history, and architecture in a deeper way. We left completely inspired and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting St. Augustine!

This was a new visit for me. It's a marvelous example of how influential architectural styles and differing cultures can be! This building's composition influenced Flagler in more ways than one. You move throughout the two-story space viewing rooms and listening to the history of certain pieces in a room or the room itself. It's all very stunning. Privately owned and kept in the same founding family, it's a must see stop on your St. Augustine tour.

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine is a stately and historic 18th-century cathedral with a grand interior, events, and a gift shop. It holds the distinction of being the oldest Christian congregation in the U.S., with its roots dating back to 1565. The current structure features a Spanish-style facade and a spectacular vaulted interior completed in 1797.
What a beautiful building! The day we visited the historic district, we were able to go in and self tour. Everything about this building is exquisite. Floor to ceiling, everything is worth viewing. It makes you wonder just how they were able to create this back in the time when there weren't power tools and everything was brought in off boats, trains, horse and buggy. There is a small gift shop also worth visiting on the back side with religious items. Entrance to the church was free and there were volunteers on site to assist with questions. This was an unexpected surprise to be able to see during our visit to St. Augustine.

We attended a 7AM mass on a Sunday. It was divine. One if the best full of wisdom homilies I have ever heard. I would attend mass almost everyday. It gives me peace of mind and yes, I rest in the Lord. The priest noticed my disability and prayed over me. It was such a blessing. We stayed a little bit to take pictures of this beautiful 18th century Cathedeal Basilica. I would comeback here given the chance again.

Whether you’re religious or not, this cathedral is definitely worth a visit. The outside is cool, but the inside is breathtaking. It’s filled with stained glass, figurines, and decor that are absolutely stunning, and there’s a solemn aura throughout the place. I would highly recommend sitting in a pew and taking a few moments to reflect while admiring the interior.

The oldest Catholic parish in the United States — just look at their website! — the Cathedral Basilica is a spectacular if not huge church that one would expect to see in Europe, not Florida. I felt like I was transported several thousand miles in just a few moments. This is a must visit regardless of your religion if you were visiting Saint Augustine.

I recently visited the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine for Sunday mass while on vacation, and it was an unforgettable memory! The moment I stepped inside, I was struck by the breathtaking beauty of the architecture—ornate stained glass windows casting colorful light across the pews, and intricate details in every corner that tell a story of history and the Catholic faith. The peaceful ambiance invited reflection, yet the vibrant murals and gilded accents sparked awe, which brought to life the cathedral’s role as America’s first parish, founded in 1565. The blend of Spanish colonial heritage and sacred serenity is unmatched. God bless!

Beautiful Basilica, we were visiting and attended the 11:00am mass. The Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine (Spanish: Catedral basílica de San Agustín) is a historic cathedral in St. Augustine, Florida, and the seat of the Catholic Bishop of St. Augustine. Constructed over five years (1793–1797), it was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark on April 15, 1970. Its congregation, established in 1565, is the oldest Christian congregation in the contiguous United States. It was a blessing to attend the Sunday mass.

The Memorial Presbyterian Church, located at 32 Sevilla Street in St. Augustine, is a must-see for travel and architectural enthusiasts. It has been recognized as one of the most beautiful churches in the United States. The church offers two stunning viewpoints, with the eastern facing side best photographed in the morning and the southern entrance suitable for morning or evening photography depending on the season.
I had a wonderful experience at Memorial Presbyterian Church. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it a great place for worship and community. The services are meaningful, and the pastors deliver thoughtful and inspiring messages. The congregation is friendly, and it truly feels like a place where everyone can come together in faith. The church itself is beautiful, with a peaceful and serene environment.

St. Augustine had no Protestant church when it became an American town in 1821. At first a united Protestant church was favored. Many denominations sent missionaries such as Presbyterian Eleazer Lathrop, who first arrived in 1821. By October, 1823, the few resident Presbyterians had decided to build their own church. Rev. Wm. McWhir arrived to organize the congregation. In 1824, the First Presbyterian Church was constituted and a cornerstone was laid for a structure. That church, which was located on St. George Street, housed Florida's first formally constituted Presbyterian congregation until 1890. Henry M. Flagler, whose efforts greatly aided the opening of the east Florida coast for development, built the Memorial Presbyterian Church in memory of his daughter, Jennie Flagler Benedict, who died tragically in 1889. He presented the magnificent Venetian Renaissance style structure to the First Presbyterian Church. Upon moving in to the new building in 1890, the congregation took the name Memorial Presbyterian Church in honor of their benefactor. The remains of Henry Flagler lie beside those of his first wife, Mary, and his daughter in the mausoleum.

Beautiful church! I proposed to my wife here back in 2015, and we visit here every time we vacation in Saint Augustine.

Didn’t go inside, but the architecture is gorgeous with a beautiful flower garden around the church that you can walk through.

The church is nice but it looks more interesting from the outside than it actually is. The structure is beautiful but it isn't an impressive church by any means. It is nice to admire some of the relics and religious artifacts inside (especially the organ), however, it lacks detail. It was just ok. Free admission, $5 suggested donation

A beautiful church built by Henry Flagler in honor of his daughter, it's definitely worth a visit. The guides are knowledgeable and while the self-guided tour is free, I recommend donating a few dollars to help pay for renovations. Flagler, his wife and daughter and also buried here.

This is a beautiful church in the heart of St. Augustine’s old town! On our tour, we learned Henry Flagler built this church in honor of his daughter. Despite this church being over 100 years old, it took less than a year to complete! Definitely worth walking a few minutes from the main street to get some photos!

The Old Jail Museum, constructed in 1890 and now serving as a museum, provides visitors with a unique experience through exhibits and guided tours of its historic cells. The passionate tour guides dressed in period attire offer an immersive journey through the hanging square, punishment hall, and the most dismal jail cell reserved for the worst offenders. This landmark backed by Henry Flagler holds significance as it represents a crucial era in St. Augustine's captivating history.
I've been here twice before so this would be my third time. Our tour guide was so much fun as she explained all the details with expression. You have to make it a point to also go inside and tour the extra stuff. The gift shop had so much to choose from as far as souvenirs to buy. The staff all over the place was nice. There is a restroom that talks to you while you're using it. That was interesting. Make sure you bring quarters with you so that you can play the machines inside the museum. There is plenty of parking.

We had an absolutely amazing time at the Old Jail in St. Augustine, FL! The experience was not only fun but also deeply emotional and memorable. Lizzie is truly on another level—she’s a master at bringing history to life through storytelling and making you feel like you’re part of the story yourself. Thank you so much for everything. We loved every moment and truly love this place.

The Old Jail Museum is a fantastic and engaging tour that brings history to life in a truly memorable way. The experience was both educational and entertaining, giving a vivid look into what life was like back in 1908. A special thank you goes to Viola, who made the tour exceptional—she stayed in character the entire time and played her role so convincingly that it felt as though she was truly a prisoner of that era. Her performance added an authentic and fun element that elevated the entire visit. Thank you, Viola, for making our experience unforgettable!

Excellent tour. Our "inmate", Louie was great, very informative and stayed in character the whole tour. Really interesting to learn the history and what conditions would have been like. A bit spooky and might disturb some people but we really enjoyed it

We Absolutely LOVE St Augustine! The old jail is fun and educational. The staff are great and preform a role as if they are the inmates and staff. They make the whole experience unique and more fun. They walk you through and tell you the history. You can look, touch and smell, Lots of sensory going on. Its air-conditioned and there is also a gift shop too. Parking on site and bathrooms too. We recommend the trolley tours or just the hop on and off day passes.

So glad we opted to take this tour! Our guide was Ed, and he was a character! He was extremely knowledgeable and charismatic- kept us engaged the entire time. Loved the 'inmates' that sit out front and engage with passers by. Enjoyed learning the history of this place.

Lizzie was absolutely amazing!! We've been visiting Old Town trolley tours in St. Augustine since the beginning (2003), and Lizzie is one of the very best!! Not only was she a wonderful tour guide, but in the days we were down here she went out of her way to interact with all of the guests at the jail!! You can tell she really loves what she's doing here! I really hope Old Town Trolley recognizes their great employees and does their very best for them to keep them! By the way, Happy 22nd Anniversary!

The Colonial Quarter in St. Augustine, Florida is a two-acre living history attraction that offers visitors an immersive experience of the city's 300-year-old port history. The re-creation of a colonial Spanish village features costumed craftsmen demonstrating old-world skills, musket drills, and a 35-foot watchtower for lookout. Visitors can take a Historic Adventure Tour with a costumed guide to explore the different historical periods of St.
Climb the watch tower for a great view of town then hope Cooper leads your tour. Cooper can perform pirate shanties on concertina (vintage accordion), blacksmith among flames and hot coals, even set off a cannon, while making all ages chuckle at his jokes. The price was worth the history lesson from Spanish to Colonial times. Walking by, I always thought the complex was larger, but the signage was informative. The ship was a nice surprise. There was one interactive video exhibit, and some pulleys with blocks for children to try their strength.
M. D — Google review
I am sure I can not be the only one that enjoyed Coopers presentation of this experience! He was hilarious and extreamly engaging! We were not sure what we would do while in the area and I’m so glad we choose this. You def want to do this with a tour which are done a certain times but well worth the planning. My 9yr old loved it and was answering and asking all the questions he could think of.

Nestled within the ancient cobblestone streets of America's oldest city lies a treasure I stumbled upon with my family last summer—the Colonial Quarter of St. Augustine. What a revelation it was! June 30th, 2023 marked our first visit, though certainly not our last. The Quarter doesn't merely display history; it breathes life into it. Blacksmiths hammer red-hot metal into submission while musket fire cracks through the air unexpectedly—startling my daughter into fits of delighted squeals! Time bends here. One moment you're wandering through a 16th-century Spanish garrison, the next you're examining British military tactics that once dominated these very grounds. We devoured authentic colonial-inspired cuisine that burst with flavors forgotten by modern palates. Heavenly! The maritime exhibits particularly captivated my husband, who lost himself for nearly an hour examining shipbuilding techniques. St. Augustine has captured my heart so completely that I dream of making it my forever home. The Colonial Quarter stands as testament to why—it's where education becomes adventure, where history isn't just remembered but experienced viscerally through all five senses. You'll leave changed, carrying pieces of centuries past within you, already planning your return before you've even departed. Trust me, this living museum deserves every accolade it receives—and then some!
Bethany S — Google review
Colonial Quarter is one of the best live music venues in downtown St. Augustine. The atmosphere is unbeatable—right in the heart of the historic district with a unique open-air setting that makes every show feel special. The sound quality was excellent, and the stage setup allowed for great views no matter where you were standing. The venue has a fun, lively vibe but still feels relaxed, making it a perfect place to enjoy music with friends. Being surrounded by history while watching talented performers created a one-of-a-kind experience. If you’re looking for a great night out in St. Augustine, Colonial Quarter should be at the top of your list.

Always love being a tourist in our own city! We came back in January and had an amazing time! From roaming the property to the informative tour from the actor. The live canon demonstration was awesome! The view of the fort from the tower is amazing as well. Highly recommend stopping by and enjoying the history!
Andy — Google review
Our tour guide was super friendly and wonderful, however we were very disappointed to see that most of the experience appeared to be under renovation. There were people working everywhere, packing the ground down and doing construction. The ship you are supposed to see wasnt there, there were vehicles parked and benches randomly in the courtyard where it was supposed to be. Benches were stacked everywhere, and not even properly spaced and set up for the tour stops. People were working everywhere, not in colonial clothing. The house wasnt set up or historically accurate (hand sanitizer machine in one of the rooms, furniture scattered..). The actual tour also seemed to be lacking the demonstrations i thought we would see- we got shown a few pieces of leather, played some music, got a very very basic blacksmith demonstration (where some of the equipment was broken, so not functioning properly). Overall, not worth the price.

Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine, Florida is a beach-filled paradise spanning 1,600 acres of unspoiled natural beauty. With 4 miles of pristine beachline and campgrounds nearby, it offers a range of activities including swimming, fishing, hiking, birdwatching, and picnicking.
This state park is a jewel. The campgrounds are surrounded by hammocks and water. Brings FL nature right to your doorstep. Some sites sit in lower pockets that may retain water during heavier rain, but the sandy soil provides excellent drainage. The beach is awesome with ample parking and concessions with great beach food and supplies. Close to downtown St. Augustine.

I solo tent camped here for one night in September. The campsites were large, shaded, and surrounded by beautiful trees. It was quiet, peaceful and I felt very safe as a solo female traveller. The boardwalk to the beach was absolutely stunning at sunset and the park itself was very clean and spacious. The bathroom facilities were also clean and well maintained. I highly recommend this park for camping or other activities.

Wonderful park for camping and resting. Due to my lovely Irish Norwegian fair skin, I have to avoid the hot sun. This is a difficult balance for a Floridian. The camping spots at ASP are well shaded and the proximity to the beach is perfect!! Sunrises are absolutely breathtaking and the park is well cared for. We enjoyed bird watching in the mornings and swimming in the early evenings. The added bonus is the proximity to downtown Old St. Augustine.

Camping at its best with accommodations for RVs. Power at water at most sites along with picnic table and fire ring. Bathouse (Angel Wing Loop) is 3/5 showing much age and in dire need of updating. Pet friendly. Not all sites are level. Great nights stay with space in between neighbors. Plenty of woods and natural atmosphere.

This is an exceptional state park. The sites are private and level with water and 30-amp electricity at every site. (50 amp available also) The restrooms are well maintained, there are laundry services, recycling, and a dump station. We didn't use the trails due to mosquitoes, but the beach is beautiful!

A bird watchers beach! Love this beautiful stretch of beach. No hotels, restaurants, or loud bars, just untouched dunes and gentle waves. Perfect place for a morning walk. The volunteers that you can find along the beach are so kind, helpful, and informative. Sue took probably an hour showing my daughter and I this amazing, extensive, catalog of the wonderful sea life she had collected over a year. That sort of knowledge and enthusiasm to share science is something I both love and admire. It helps spark conversations and a love for conservation. 🫶🏽

The Ximenez-Fatio House Museum, built in 1798, offers a glimpse into the history and heritage of Florida. This well-preserved coquina house provides an immersive experience, allowing visitors to step back in time and understand the daily life of early Americans. Originally constructed by Don Andres Ximenez for his beloved Juana Pellicer, the house has witnessed centuries of change and served as a sanctuary for those affected by various challenges.
It was a fantastic experience! Each room is beautifully preserved and filled with period-appropriate furniture which along with the interesting stories provided by the audio guide make it very easy to imagine what life was like in those times. It’s clear a lot of care and effort has gone into maintaining this historic place. We visited during Night of Lights so the Christmas decorations were a huge bonus.

Very historic house museum that dates back to the 1700’s. You check in at the gift shop and during the hot summer that’s about the only room that has AC. They sell waters there but I recommend bringing your own water bottle because it gets hot. The house is 2 levels and you can scan a QR code or use one of their devices to do a self guided tour with a narration through each room. It was a very hot day so I went through the site pretty quickly. It was amazing to see very old things that have been preserved and just how they utilized what they had way back then. Each room was staged with many layers and cool pieces. If you follow the audio it can go by slower but you can read through it instead. It was quite fascinating and not very busy on that particular day.

What a wonderful museum. This is also a very elegant location for a small wedding ceremony. I loved the garden and I leaned a lot while talking to the caretakers. I touched the oldest fig tree that I have ever seen and I sat under an orange tree smelling orange blossoms for the first time in my life. It was a wonderful day and I look forward to visiting the museum again the next time that I am in town.

This is the best museum I have been to in St. Augustine and maybe in Florida itself. The staff were so attentive and caring, you could tell that talking about the history of the museum was their passion. The historic boarding house was beautiful and clean, the antiques were all accurate and suited everything perfectly. I can't wait to go back in the future as I was told about new tours happening soon. My husband even talked about getting a membership there! Good for the kids too, my preteens were fascinated!

We had a wonderful tour of the property. There is a rich history of the homes here. Beautiful antique pieces bring history alive. We visited on the morning after a paranormal investigation took place so we received a little extra information. It was so fun if you like this kind of thing! Our guide was lovely and knowledgeable about the area.

If you have ever wanted to step back in time Saint Augustine is the place to do it, and the Ximenez-Fatio house is one of the very best places to get a real sense of how the times were back then. We took the audio guide tour and loved walking through all the rooms at our (myself, 70 year old mother and 7 year old daughter) own pace. Note that there is no AC in the house, they do have fans set up and the breezes made it tolerable. I learned so much and really enjoyed the experience. They also had a fun "scavenger" hunt for my daughter which kept her engaged, and a wonderful selection of prizes to choose from at the end.

The Saint Augustine Distillery is a working distillery located in a restored ice plant dating back to the early 1900s. Visitors can take free guided tours to learn about the art of distilling and the history of Old Florida, with exhibits showcasing artifacts from the past. The distillery produces award-winning spirits such as whiskey, rum, gin, and vodka using age-old techniques in copper pot stills. The tour also includes information about the building's former life as an ice manufacturing plant.
St. Augustine Distillery Review This was my third time visiting the St. Augustine Distillery, and it continues to be an enjoyable and worthwhile stop—and best of all, it’s free! The self-guided tour includes four tasting stations. I didn’t grab photos of all of them and can’t recall every name, but I do remember sampling a Mule, an Old Fashioned mix, and what I believe was a Grapefruit Hibiscus blend. All four were delicious. The tour is short, informative, and fun. The staff is friendly, and the overall vibe is welcoming. While the free tasting doesn’t include their gin, I highly recommend trying it at the bar—it’s remarkably smooth. There’s also a full bar on site where you can purchase cocktails, and a restaurant attached to the building that I haven’t tried yet, but maybe next time. If you're in the area, this place is absolutely worth a visit—whether it's your first time or your third.

Best Distillery Experience in Florida! Yep another non-food review! What a blast! From the first sip to the last, this place knows how to deliver an experience. The rum, gin, and vodka samples were great — but the bourbon? Absolute favorite. And The Saint… wow. Hands-down the star of the show. Dominick was our guide and he crushed it — friendly, funny, and clearly loves what he does. He made the whole tour feel like we were hanging out with a friend who just happens to know everything about spirits. The classroom is gorgeous and super organized, which made learning as fun as the tasting. I’m already planning my next trip — certification, here I come! You're in the St Augustine area, stop by and as always, tell them we sent you!

This distillery is known for its famous bourbon. We stopped by and took a FREE self-guided tour which includes 4 cocktail samples. It took us about 45min-an hour to get thru with reading info provided. The staff were friendly and obviously love their jobs. They were fun to talk to about the history. After you done you could go for more tasting. The parking are on the side of the building sharing with the restaurant.

My son and I toured the distillery while traveling through Saint Augustine and had a fantastic time! The tour was extremely engaging and informative, we learned a lot, all the employees were extremely friendly in each room had a different tasting. It was a lot of fun. We actually wind up buying several pieces of merchandise in the shop before leaving. If you are in the area, it is a free tour and a lot of fun. Definitely add it to your list!

Awesome experience where we complete the self guided tour. I was surprised to find it was really free, including the free sample taste of 4 of their house made cocktails. These included a Florida Mule, Essential Tonic, Old Fashion, and Tropical Tiki Mix. These were all made with their own brand Vodka, Gin, Rum and Bourbon usiung thier very own, in house made, all natural Mixers respectively. At the end of the tour, I was surprised that the final taste station provides a taste of each spirit straight up. Also, you may choose to purchase a taste of their premier Bourbon Whiskey for $10. It's worth mentioning these are all 1/2 ounce serving but enough to help you make up your mind on your favorites.

St George St is a bustling pedestrian thoroughfare in St. Augustine, featuring a mix of eateries, retailers, and historic sites. Visitors can explore the area's charming streets lined with antiques stores, galleries, and shops offering original paintings, sculptures, and fine furnishings. The street is also home to numerous candy shops where tourists can indulge in treats like fudge and saltwater taffy.
Nice historical street with plenty of shops and restaurants. Everything walkable and located on the street. I definitely recommend checking it out. It is hard to find parking so I recommend doing the old town trolley tour with multiple drop off and pick up spots. This charming historical street is packed with shops and restaurants, all conveniently located on the same street. It’s a great place to explore on foot. Just be prepared for limited parking options, so consider taking the old town trolley tour for multiple drop-off and pick-up spots. Trust me, it’s a must-see!

The Oldest House Museum Complex, located in St. Augustine, is a landmark museum that offers guided tours through the oldest surviving Spanish Colonial house in Florida. The complex includes a small museum, gallery, colonial garden and kitchen house, as well as the main attraction - the Gonzalez-Alvarez House. This historic site dates back to the early 1700s and has been remarkably well-preserved, showcasing 500 years worth of artifacts from the region. Operated by the St.
This is a very interesting and worthwhile visit. Be sure to see all the houses and grounds. The staff are awesome.

This was an interesting excursion. There are actually three houses and a small museum on the property. When the guide talked about the surf museum, I pictured "serf" with an "e"... It's actually a "surf" museum with "u". The oldest house was very interesting. Worth the stop.

Great place to learn a little bit about history. Children of all ages should visit; it may make them more appreciative of the things they have! Did an event honoring the fallen. Good turnout, good fun!

It was a nice experience to go see the oldest house in Saint Augustine. There is furniture from back then, and it's staged like in the 1700s and older. There are restrooms in case you need to stop by them. I'm uploading pictures from the outside, the inside downstairs and upstairs. Also, the kitchen was kept outside of the house because they were scared that the house might go on fire.

Such an interesting place with a lot of history, and our tour guide did a great job. I wish I could remember his name! Check out the old maps while you're here, too. And there's a surfers museum on the grounds as well (we didn't go in there).

The Oldest House Museum Complex in St. Augustine, FL is a fascinating destination that provides visitors with a glimpse into the rich history of the city. The complex includes several buildings, including the oldest surviving house in St. Augustine, which dates back to the 1700s. The buildings have been carefully restored and preserved, and are now filled with interesting exhibits and artifacts that showcase the daily life of the city's earliest residents. In addition to the historic buildings, the museum complex also features beautiful gardens and outdoor spaces, providing visitors with a peaceful and relaxing environment to explore. Overall, the Oldest House Museum Complex is a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in the history and culture of St. Augustine, and is a wonderful destination for visitors of all ages.

Your trip to St Augustine won’t be complete if you don’t visit this historic spot. The oldest house has a museum and a house tour.Front desk staff are friendly and they have a small gift store at the entrance. There isn’t much to check around except for the house and the maps gallery. But they have got enough history to keep anyone occupied for at least an hour. Good spot to stop by for a short historic tour.

The Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse is a fascinating piece of history that offers a unique insight into the roots of education in the United States. Stepping inside this historical institution feels like a journey through time, with well-preserved artifacts and quaint classrooms showcasing the evolution of teaching. The school is set up exactly as it was for its last graduating class, providing an authentic experience for visitors. Leashed dogs are welcome at this attraction, making it accessible to all travelers exploring St. Augustine's rich heritage.
Visiting the Old School House was such an amazing experience! It was fascinating to see how children used to learn and what schools looked like in the past. The building itself is so old and full of history—it really feels like stepping back in time. Walking through the garden and exploring how everything was set up gave us a glimpse into life from another era. The care and effort that went into preserving this historical site is truly admirable. Whoever is responsible for maintaining it has done an incredible job. I highly recommend visiting, especially with kids—it’s both educational and fun. Such a beautiful and unique place to explore!

I didn’t expect to see such an old school building in this area. I was truly surprised that it’s still standing, especially since it’s made of wood. It’s amazing how well it has been preserved over the years. The structure carries a lot of history and character, and it really stands out against the more modern surroundings. It’s a rare and charming reminder of the past.

Walkin Tours Ghost Tour – Midnight Chills and Thrills Purchased this self-guided ghost tour on Eventbrite for just $7—definitely worth it. The app allows access on two devices, which made it super convenient for our family setup: my wife had it on her phone, and I paired one earbud with my son so we could enjoy it together. The tour itself took about an hour and was a perfect way to stretch our legs while passing through the city at midnight. St. Augustine's eerie charm really comes alive in the quiet hours, and the app’s narration added the perfect spooky touch without going over the top. Whether you're a skeptic or a thrill-seeker, this tour is a fun, budget-friendly way to explore some haunted history at your own pace. Would totally recommend it for night owls wanting a unique experience.

Cool experience. You're not allowed to take video but it's okay to take pictures. I've been here before and rules have changed but it was all good. I loved getting my diploma at the end of my little visit.
Alice R — Google review
It doesn't take very long at all to visit this place. Not a whole lot to see but I like to see what an old schoolhouse looks like. There's a robot presentation where the teacher and a dunce cap-wearing student explain what education was like back then. There's also an outhouse, which provides for some funny photos. At the end of your visit, you get a diploma.
Michael K — Google review
Fun, quirky, and educational. This is the oldest wooden school house in Florida. I was impressed that it was still original. The automaton teacher and dunce kid were hilarious.
Joel H — Google review
Pretty cool window into the school system of the past. Yeah, I'd be the mannequin with the dunce cap no doubt. They've got an amusing animatronic setup with a teacher and some students that bring an informative presentation about the old days of school in St. Augustine, and a nice courtyard you can explore with statues and an old outhouse as well (non functional of course.)
Rob — Google review
We liked it, we visited it on Monday, and the welcome was very nice, when you get to the main building you push a button to have an explanation about how the school and the students were in those days! It has a nice garden and you can learn, walk around and relax, recommended!

The Spanish Military Hospital Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the medical practices of the late 18th century. Located on Aviles Street, the oldest street in the United States, this museum is a faithful reconstruction of a military hospital from 1791. Visitors can explore displays of antique surgical instruments and medical equipment while learning about authentic period surgical procedures and the creation of medicines by apothecaries.
Went with 4th grade field trip and had a great time learning about the history of the military hospital, apothecary, and surgical suite. Our tour guide did a good job engaging with the kids 👏

Day two of family fun summer vacation kicked off bright and early with breakfast and a boat ride. Following some typical Florida weather of scattered showers every few minutes, we ventured into the St. Augustine Hospital Museum. My family and I were welcomed by very personable individuals, and had a stellar tour guide, Katie. Katie is very knowledgeable of the hospital’s history, tools/instruments, and surgical procedures. As well as, Katie is great with children and making sure everyone is having a blast. She also informed us of many different surgical cases, as well as the medicine and operation of pharmacy. All in all, this tour is well worth it and there’s a cute garden and gift shop at the end. Much history, laughs, and all in all a great time. Thank you and much appreciation!

Ponce De Leon Hall is a Spanish-mission-style cathedral located in the historic downtown area, dating back to the late 1800s. It now serves as a private liberal arts college and offers tours twice a day by reservation only. The building features unique historical elements, including a rare collection of Tiffany glass and meticulously preserved gilded era architecture and courtyard. Visitors can expect an informative tour led by knowledgeable guides, such as senior history majors from the college.
This place is absolutely gorgeous. I had a weekend free on a two week business trip and drove down here at the suggestion of my boss and was blown away. The architecture and the aesthetics of this building is like nothing else. It is ornate and well kept. The walk-through is free and it doesn’t take too long to take in the sites and see the inside. I highly recommend the beautiful ceilings on the interior of the building and also some of the historical information is interesting as well.

Nestled just a few blocks from The Ice Plant, San Sebastian Winery is a delightful local gem that invites visitors to explore the art of winemaking in St. Augustine. This vibrant winery offers complimentary tastings and guided tours, showcasing their impressive selection of wines crafted from grapes sourced in northern and central Florida. Among their offerings are classic varietals like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside unique blends made from Muscadine grapes—an iconic Southern variety known for its rich flavor profile.
Great atmosphere, loved the setting. The employee was knowledgeable and very informative. We tasted 5 different wines, all very good, and we found our favorite. All the sweet wine is made with grapes from Florida. We ended up buying 4 bottles of wine. My husband and I had a great time there and if you have guests from out of town I definitely recommend as well.

One of my faves in all of FL; I love the sister winery in Clermont as well. Made the drive to pick up our fave bourbon - infused wine from San Sebastián. We arrived pretty late and were thankful the folks let us shop for our wine! To make the drive from Jax worth the while we checked out the restaurant upstairs and it did not disappoint at all. Food was excellent. Wonderful and welcoming service, our waiter was friendly and offered great conversation.

I love this place! I have wanted to visit them for a while because I knew some of the grapes were grown right here in Florida. I'm so glad I finally had the opportunity. The tasting assistants are very knowledgeable & ready to answer any question. For instance, during my tasting experience, I learned the Ruby Port is aged in whiskey barrels the come from the distillery up the road. How cool is that?

San Sebastian Winery Review – St. Augustine, FL This was my second visit to San Sebastian Winery, and it did not disappoint. For just a $5 tasting fee, this is absolutely a must-stop when in St. Augustine. During this visit, I sampled several wines: the Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, Rosa, Vintner's White, Vintner's Red, and the Ruby Port. While I typically lean toward dry reds, the Rosa was the standout for me. Made from native Floridian Muscadine grapes, it far exceeded my expectations. These grapes often get a bad rap, but I was pleasantly surprised—this wasn’t just good “for a sweet wine,” it was genuinely enjoyable and ended up being my favorite of the bunch. Fun fact: the incredibly popular Erie, Pennsylvania band Ruby Port took their name from San Sebastian’s very own Ruby Port wine. Although we didn’t get the chance to check out the upstairs restaurant, the outdoor seating area looked very inviting and relaxing. I’ll definitely plan to explore more on my next visit. Highly recommend!

Not my first time at a winery, but my first time to San Sebastian and it was great. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. It was a nice mix of wine tasting, history lesson, and camaraderie. On-site wine available for purchase or shipping. They had discounts on buying 4 bottles, 6 bottles, and cases. (20% discount on a case is fantastic.) My girlfriend and I drove from Lake City (about 2 hours away) to come here and we were not disappointed. We drank delicious wine, learned about Florida wine and muscadine grapes, we talked with people on the tour with us, and we chatted up the sommelier-level staff and just had a wonderful time. Highly recommend, great for a date night, or a night out with friend.
Michael D — Google review
The tour is a cheap price; however, I didn’t complete it. You first watch a video about 20 minutes that’s like a time share video. Once we were about 10 minutes into the video, a gaggle of people with 2 noisy kids were let it. Next, we went into the barrel tasting room. The children were shrieking and yelling they didn’t want to be there (why would they?) When I said I couldn’t hear the tour guide explaining what we were drinking, the mom started cursing me out. Rather than engage, I left. I was annoyed that kids were let into the tasting rooms without supervision.

The Bridge of Lions, built in 1927, is a picturesque drawbridge featuring two white marble lion statues modeled after originals in Italy. Connecting the mainland with Anastasia Island, it provides a breathtaking view of the St. Augustine skyline and historic downtown as you cross over the Intracoastal Waterway. The evening offers a particularly romantic experience with city lights casting a captivating glow over the skyline. Just a short drive away from sun and surf, visitors can explore St.
This bridge offers two strikingly different views—one side opens up to vast, shimmering waters, while the other reveals a charming waterfront neighborhood. 🌊🏡 I personally love the latter, where the laid-back atmosphere invites you to slow down and take it all in. At the entrance, a majestic lion statue stands tall, as if silently guarding the city’s rich history and untold stories. 🦁✨ Walking across feels like stepping into a place where past and present intertwine, making it more than just a bridge—it’s a journey.
GSTonyTseng — Google review
Very cool drawbridge. We walked across it, had beautiful views of the harbor, and lots of boats were cruising. As we were crossing, the bells went off warning that the bridge was going to raise. So we had to quickly get on the other side of the barrier gates, and then we stood and watched the bridge, go up-and-down. It was pretty cool waiting and watching a couple of large boats go under the bridge while we were on it. St Augustine was a great place to visit, and I'd recommend seeing the bridge as well.
Shelly L — Google review
The drawbridge is pretty cool. Gorgeous lion statues at the feet, and the top offers a great view of the harbor. On our way back, we actually got to watch the drawbridge in action. Luckily we weren’t in a rush so we just sat back and watched the boat pass through.

Churches & Cathedrals
Grace United Methodist Church, located in St. Augustine, Florida, was built in 1887 by Henry Flagler, who employed the same artisans that constructed his Ponce De Leon Hotel to create this Spanish Renaissance Revival-style sanctuary. The church's terracotta spire and moldings serve as a lasting testament to the city's Spanish influence. It replaced the wood-frame Olivet Methodist Church after negotiations with Flagler, who wanted the land for his Alcazar Hotel.
This beautiful building also has beautiful souls attending services and they actively consider how to make the world a better place. Lot of love in that place.

Grace UMC Church is a welcoming church for all. The Pastors greet the parishioners each service as they come into church. And, the sermons are always a great message to apply to your week. The children's and youth programs are a great learning and social environment for our community kids. Martha Yamnitz, Children's Director and Jessica Chaulk, Youth Director, ensure all children and youth have great experiences with all of the different projects they do together. And, they learn and experience spiritual growth as well as how to care for the planet as well as the community in the things they do. There are many different programs to choose to join at Grace UMC as well. It's a great family atmosphere!!!

Cuban restaurant
Columbia Restaurant in St. Augustine offers a taste of traditional Spanish and Cuban cuisine within a charming two-story Spanish-style atrium. The restaurant is part of a long-standing local chain with roots dating back to 1905. Guests can savor Cuban sandwiches, the family's century-old paella recipe, fresh Gulf of Mexico catch, and the signature 1905 salad prepared tableside.
The Columbia Restaurant is a must-stop whenever I’m in Florida. As usual, I kicked off the meal with their signature 1905 Salad, prepared tableside—fresh, flavorful, and always a highlight. I also tried the Empanadas de Picadillo for the first time, and they were excellent—crisp, savory, and perfectly seasoned. To drink, I had a freshly made mojito (pro tip: if you're ordering several, go for the pitcher—it’s made tableside). I ordered four for the table, but unfortunately, they arrived pre-mixed. Still refreshing, just not quite the same experience. For the main course, I shared the Paella a la Valenciana. It was a generous portion and quite tasty overall, but the chicken, mussels, and clams were slightly overcooked and a bit tough. That said, the flavor was there. Our dining companions had the stuffed shrimp and a mahi-mahi dish—both were very pleased with their meals. To top things off, we were served a complimentary flan for dessert—my first time trying it, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Despite the few minor critiques, The Columbia remains one of my favorite places to visit. The atmosphere, history, and overall dining experience are consistently memorable.

Excellent food. It's hard to beat Columbia for good food. Great atmosphere. Plenty of selections on the menu to choose. The seafood paella made it to my plate. And the crab cakes are a must have if you are a fan of crab cakes. Everything was made to perfection. Our server was super friendly and helpful. She knew her way around the menu and had some great suggestions.
E. B — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ First visit to The Columbia in St. Augustine, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The atmosphere alone makes it worth the stop — historic building, beautiful tile work, and that old-Florida feel you just don’t get anywhere else. The place was busy, but everything ran smoothly. I had the 1905 Salad, made tableside — super fresh, crisp, and packed with flavor. The ropa vieja and flank steak was perfectly pressed, with just the right mix of crunch and melt. Everything tasted authentic and made with care, not rushed. Shoutout to Jason, who made the whole experience even better. His professionalism, patience, and attention to detail stood out. He checked in at the right times, knew the menu inside out, and genuinely made us feel welcome — that kind of service makes all the difference. Overall, The Columbia is one of those places that reminds you why St. Augustine’s food scene is so special — great food, great people, and real pride in what they do. Highly recommend.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Consistently Amazing Dining Experience 🍽️ No matter which Columbia Restaurant location I visit—Ybor City, St. Armands Circle, or St. Augustine—the experience is always exceptional 🌟. The atmosphere, service, and food are top-notch 👌. Must-try items include the refreshing sangria 🍷, warm Cuban bread 🥖, and the iconic 1905 Salad 🥗. For entrees, you can’t go wrong, but my personal favorite is the Cannelloni de Langosta 🦞—absolutely delicious! This is a must-enjoy dining experience wherever you find one. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates flavorful Cuban-Spanish cuisine 🇨🇺🇪🇸 and great hospitality 💛.

We stopped into The Columbia Restaurant in St. Augustine for lunch after a hot morning of sightseeing, and it turned out to be the perfect place to take refuge from the heat. We sat upstairs on the second floor, which was fairly busy and a bit lively — not quiet, but not uncomfortably loud either. It actually added to the atmosphere and energy of the place. Our server was excellent — very polite, attentive, and genuinely helpful with recommendations. We kept things light and ordered sandwiches and plantains, and both were very pleasant. The sandwiches were flavorful and fresh, and the plantains were perfectly sweet and well-prepared. There’s no dedicated parking, so you’ll need to walk from wherever you can find a spot nearby, but it’s worth it. Between the beautiful historic setting, great service, and flavorful food, The Columbia is definitely a place I’d love to return to — next time for dinner.

They first brought the freshly baked bread to the table then lunch We had the 1/2 1905 salad with 1/2 a Cuban and it was a large portion. Along with a piece of the famous key lime pie ( to die for) to go. Plenty of parking and it is free with validation. Placed right off of St George street and it was busy. The shrine is beautiful, it feels like walking in a real orthodox church. It is free to visit and there is a well stocked gift shop - from icons, incense, prayer books, bracelets, necklaces to products from Greece. We love the smell of the incense we purchased here and the kids love their bracelets. It's worth visiting.

One of the best spots to visit. Doesn’t cost a thing! Beautiful! Right in the historic downtown area. Beautiful!

Incredible Experience, Peaceful, and Informative The St. Photios National Shrine is the site of the first Greek Orthodox Church in America. There is a courtyard where you can sit and take a break from the downtown tourist crowds, a small chapel to light a candle, and two rooms with exhibits on Greek-American history. The last room is a small gift shop, with Greek chocolate, herbal mountain tea, olive oil, icons, books, incense, and other items. Worth stopping in, if you’re on St. George Street. There is even a monthly Paraklesis service.

Tucked away on a busy tourist street, this historic shrine is a peaceful and spiritual oasis for travelers of any faith. It includes written and pictorial descriptions of fascinating aspects of the history of Saint Augustine. My college age son loves this place. (Me too!)
Frank L — Google review
On a beautiful, excellent day just after a light rain shower, we embarked on a soul-stirring journey to St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine in Saint Augustine, Florida. As we entered the shrine, we were warmly greeted by a young man who exuded a youthful spirit and a genuine sense of hospitality. Dressed in the attire of a Greek Orthodox monk, he attended the gift shop and graciously offered us full access to the shrine. His words dripped with reverence as he shared with us a glimpse into the rich history and significance of the shrine. We listened intently, soaking in every detail of the past Greek Orthodox customs and religious traditions that adorned the shrine’s sacred halls. Walking through the sanctuary area, a profound sense of calm enveloped us, as if the very air was imbued with the presence of the Almighty. The serenity of the space washed over us, and we felt a deep connection to something greater than ourselves. Amidst the artifacts and religious items that spoke volumes of faith and devotion, we couldn’t help but feel humbled by the depth of spirituality that permeated every corner of the shrine. Leaving the shrine, our hearts were full, and our spirits uplifted. We knew in that moment that this would not be our last visit. We vowed to return on our next trip to Saint Augustine, eager to immerse ourselves once again in the tranquility and reverence of St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine. As we left, we couldn’t help but feel compelled to share our experience with others. We knew that we would be recommending this sacred sanctuary to friends and family, urging them to partake in the profound beauty and spiritual nourishment that awaits within the hallowed walls of St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine. https://youtu.be/o9CbvOrY8WQ?si=6xTwdS3jRzRIjWjQ

Very nice place with pictures of local and southern state clergy. Also pictures and artifacts from Greece. The shrine area is like a tunnel area with painted icons on the walls and ceiling like in the Greek Orthodox Churches. These murals are absolutely beautiful! I visited while they were doing some renovations so I was told there is usually videos playing, but it was closed. If you're in the area, this is a great place to stop and learn some history. The gift shop was open and prices of items were very reasonable! The staff was extremely helpful and friendly! Although it's small, it's very beautiful. I'll definitely stop in again when I'm in the area.

If you are or are going to St Augustine, independently of your religion; I think that you should go to this beautiful and sacred place. There is too much history inside this walls, it’s a great opportunity to learn about religion, faith and the history of this beautiful city and its founders. The Shrine is perfectly preserved and has been visited by many important leaders and personalities around the year (like the President John F Kennedy for example) The paintings on the walls and each chambers are also amazing. We loved the experience and will define tot come back 🙏

The Governor's House Cultural Center and Museum in St. Augustine offers an immersive educational experience, showcasing the city's 450-year history from the Spanish colonial era to the present day. The museum features interactive exhibits highlighting various aspects of St. Augustine's history, including its civil rights movement and the adventures of Mediterranean seamen in the 16th century.
Nice little museum with interesting exhibits on the production of chocolate and the history of the house. However the highlight is the gorgeous collection of lots of art masterpieces from different artists in the region.

We found the Governor’s House Cultural Center and Museum very interesting. There a small number of items from the early days of Saint Augustine and a fairly extensive collection of local art. The building itself is quite noteworthy and has been well restored.

Looking for a free activity in St. Augustine? Check out the Governor’s House. It gives you a glimpse into the history of America’s oldest. The center houses tools and materials brought by the Spaniards. The plus is that it is less crowded than the Castillo museum.

The Governor’s House offers impressively clean public restrooms, a welcome convenience for visitors exploring St. Augustine. While I haven’t toured the full museum, the free sneak peek provided an intriguing glimpse of its historical exhibits, sparking curiosity about the collections.

First Colony: Our Spanish Origins Exhibit at Government House Museum is a wonderful and informative space that showcases the local colonial history of St. Augustine. The exhibit provides a detailed account of the challenges faced by the Spanish settlers, including their interactions with Native Americans and slaves, offering a unique perspective on early Florida history. With interactive displays and a collection of artifacts, it's an engaging experience for both adults and children. Plus, it's free to visit!
A wonderful museum! The exhibit space isn't vast but does comprise a large portion of the ground floor, you can easily spend an hour or more here and there is plenty of great information about local colonial history as well as a nice collection of artifacts and some interactive stuff for the kids to enjoy. Also the exhibit space is free!
Joe C — Google review
It's free, so that's good. If you want to learn a lot about early Florida history, it is full of information. Although there are some interactive displays, there is LOTS of reading, so elementary kids will be bored after about 20 minutes.

Nestled at the corner of St. George and King Streets, Trinity Parish Church stands as a testament to history and architectural beauty. Established in 1821, it is recognized as Florida's oldest Protestant congregation. The church has undergone several renovations over the years, with its original coquina structure dating back to 1830 being expanded in the early 1900s into a stunning neo-Gothic design.
Stunning church with beautifully done stained glass windows and lovely bells that chime.

Visited this church while I was staying in town. I wanted to check out this Episcopalian church and see how their service went. Beautiful church with so much character with the stained glass windows. Service promptly started at 11:15. Beautiful music and worship service. I loved the traditional elements and their emphasis on sacraments. The pastor was a great communicator and had a good sense of humor which I loved! The only thing it lacked was diversity, but I enjoyed my time there and felt welcome.
Nina C — Google review
I visited this church while on vacation. The congregation was very friendly and welcoming for being such a large church. The priest gave a very powerful Gospel message during his homily and the service was orderly. I would recommend it to those who were in town.

We just moved from Daytona to St Augustine and are life long Lutherans, but the elca Lutheran church in the area seemed elderly and not welcoming at all so we decided to try this episcopal Parrish. Boy we are sure glad we did. Very welcoming, very beautiful service much like the Lutheran service we know and love, a lot of ministry opportunities to get involved with and mostly great preaching. We would recommend this church if you want to find Jesus and get involved with his teachings and ministry.

I was 18 when I was married in this church. I was also pregnant... The people here were so kind . I moved shortly after marrying so I never really attended the church service but can atttest to the beauty . The little boy I was carrying that sunny Valentine Day is a tall man now , a sweet physician who lives in Dallas Texas! I would definitely recommend ANYONE visit this church.

The Llambias House Garden is a small, historic spot in St. Augustine that is known for its wooden balcony and fairytale gardens. Today, it is a popular wedding venue.
Had an absolute blast shooting a wedding at The Llambias House in St. Augustine Florida. The backdrop was absolutely stunning for my couples big day. The folks that helped work the event with The Oldest House were so professional and had everything we needed to do our jobs. Hope you enjoy these images. Flagler College, located in St. Augustine, FL, is a stunning campus known for its Spanish Renaissance architecture. The centerpiece of the campus is the former Hotel Ponce de Leon, built by Henry M. Flagler in 1888 and now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The college's beautiful surroundings make it a popular choice for engagement photos due to its architectural masterpiece and historic significance.
I toured Flagler College and downtown along with my brother. Architecture of this college is fabulous. Some of the detail is absolutely remarkable. Nice tour available without ever stepping foot on the property. Plenty of photo opportunities. I’d like to see the inside of some of the buildings at some point on a later more in-depth tour.

The Flagler College area is absolutely beautiful. The Spanish architecture is breathtaking. From the terracotta roofs to the red iron gaits and railings, this place is eye candy. Walked around and looked at the various hotels and other various buildings, all the same style and flair. When you tour the downtown Saint Augustine area, venture a little further down to see these sites.

Taking the free architectural tour at Flagler College was absolutely fascinating and beautiful! It was like time traveling back to the Gilded Age where conspicuous luxury and customized environs and decor knew no bounds. Learning the history of the visionary team behind the project and the short amount of time this hotel was completed yielded many surprises for us!

Visited for the afternoon historic tour. This facility is simply stunning. It’s very existence is pivotal to what we now know as modern day Florida. The tour was interesting and hosted by one of the attending college students. While she did get a bit “tour-guidey”, she had some great insight into the main building’s history. The tour itself is just over an hour and takes you into some rooms you wouldn’t be able to see otherwise. A small portion of the tour is outdoors, so weather could be a factor. Our tour guide did a fantastic job picking a nice, comfortable, shady spot for our outside stop. If you’re in the area, and looking for brief afternoon activity, then you can’t go wrong with a historic tour of this campus.

My family and I love the Florida Cracker Cafe. Everytime we are in Florida, we are going to St. Augustine to go to this restaurant. Good size plates for the high price. The soup is pretty spicy, if you like that. The new England clam chowder is medium thick but taste good. The shrimp wrap is filled with simp and veggies but the dill dressing really doesn't go well. It makes it bland. Excellent service. Great fries!!

Historic Downtown St. Augustine, located on East King Street and Aviles Street, is a haven for art enthusiasts and history buffs alike. The area boasts an array of art galleries around the Plaza, offering visitors a chance to explore unique home decor and artistic creations. As the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the US, this downtown area exudes old-world charm with its cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and iconic landmarks.
May 2025 One of my favorite places to go especially during the Christmas season. I use to work in the historic district and come here every day. Seeing St Augustine again was like a little dream. We went to the town square & South of Philly for cheesesteak sandwiches. We went to the little shops and walked by the oldest mapped street in the United States. Definitely a go see city and the oldest city in the nation. I recommend parking in the parking garage when visiting the city during tourist season. Parking is scarce and it is worth it to pay for parking at the parking garage.

Oliver was attentive and accommodating. Very pleasant. Jenny the chef, provided great service and great food. The presentation was excellent and the taste better. They were able to accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences of our group. Jenny offered recipes. She greater each guest to ensure our needs were met.

We eloped this past weekend at Casa de Solana and it exceeded our expectations tenfold. We had already booked an airbnb for our 5 year anniversary but we decided to elope last minute. So we found Casa de Solana with a quick google search. The have a ton of different packages available and don't require you to also book a room. Many of the places we looked at required a stay of at least 2 nights to elope there. If we hadn't already had the airbnb booked and passed the cancellation period, we would have gone that route. Jonathan was so accommodating and even threw in a small cake (which wasn't included in the package we picked). They decorated the area so perfectly. It was so intimate and special. The officiant was AMAZING. Her vows were SO good and not religious or spiritual, although I'm sure she could make them so if you wish. They were perfect for us. We also read our own vows and she let us be a little unorthodox. It was just all so perfect and unique to our relationship. We've already decided we're coming back to Casa de Solana for our 1 year wedding anniversary. Absolutely recommend this beautiful, historic bed and breakfast <3

Great overall experience staying in the Kirby Smith room. If you are looking for a comfy and charming stay this is a great spot. Oliver will accommodate any special needs you have whether they be dietary or just a glass of wine. The price for what you get is incredible. Central location with easy access to many downtown places.

We stayed at Casa de Solana for our honeymoon and had a wonderful time! The room was beautiful, the food was delicious, we really appreciated the 24/7 access to a variety of cold beverages and hot coffee during the day, and it was a super easy check in/check out process. The location was also top notch. We will definitely be back. Thank you to the owners and staff for such a perfect honeymoon experience!

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon, and we already can’t wait to go back! The food was delicious, the rooms were clean and cozy, and it is located within walking distance of so many shops and restaurants! The owner was so friendly and accommodating! Highly recommend!

A Wonderful First B&B Experience at Casa De Solona! This was our first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast, and Casa De Solona set the bar high! We stayed in the Minorcan Suite on the first floor, and it was surprisingly quiet and peaceful. The room was clean, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable. Breakfast was absolutely delicious each morning and prepared with such care. The location is perfect: tucked away and quiet, yet close to everything we wanted to explore. Parking was off-site about three blocks away, but it was close, validated, and easy to manage. The unloading/loading zone right in front of the inn was convenient and made arrival & departure simple. The hosts went above and beyond to make our visit memorable. Their kindness and attention to detail made all the difference. We highly recommend Casa De Solona to anyone visiting the area and look forward to coming back!

Historical landmark
The Old City Gates in St. Augustine are a significant historical landmark, dating back to the 1700s when they served as the main entrance and defense mechanism for the walled city. These coquina stone pillars stand as a reminder of the city's rich history and are located at the northern part of St. George Street.
Wonderful place full of fundamental information and historical content. It's like a cultural pot I highly recommend walking all around the old city gates each place is amazing.

I absolutely love old city! This is the first place adventure to once visiting Saint Augustine! Each time I’m in the area I make sure that I go there ! So beautiful and a wonderful piece of history!
Kerrie P — Google review
They’re the original entrance to the city, built in the 1700s, and are right by St. George Street, which is a great area to walk around. The gates are pretty small, but they have a lot of history behind them.
Bao N — Google review
Beautiful city! U can feel the history and just try to imagine how people lived and survived back then! If you are a history lover and don’t have the means to go to overseas or put the country you should go there and experience the life! A lot of old buildings and history! Oldest wooden school, Forts, and I plan on going once a year atleast and experience a little more every time. Beautiful beaches also! Spent a lot of time on St Augustine’s beaches! Water a little strong at that time for the little ones but good waves.

These are the remains of the city gates to the fortified town. The Spanish built these gates in 1808 after they took possession of the region back from the British. The area outside of the city were where crops were grown. During an attack the people living outside the city could enter through these gates with their valuables.

The Old Spanish Trail Zero Milestone is a monument marking the very beginning of the auto highway that once linked San Diego to St. Augustine, Florida. Completed in 1929, this historic road was built to link the south with the southwest and played an important role in connecting America's cultures. Today, this monument is located in a lovely park setting and is one of three markers along the Old Spanish Trail.
This could be easily missed if you aren't paying attention. I like finding old markers like this.

I feel like this area is easily missed because of all of the shops but this small trail is definitely a small gem worth exploring.

I'm a wedding photographer and recently had the honor of photographing a wedding at Markland House. It is an incredibly beautiful venue like no other. Each room is so unique and elegant for so many parts of the wedding day. The staff was very accommodating and welcoming to all of us.

Well it is not so much that I dislike it it's just that they have this big metal gate launch shut that keeps me from actually going up to it. But it is a beautiful piece of property I'll give it that much. I would like to have a look around inside but that is not an option unless maybe you can do it by appointment but there's no phone number advertised to make an appointment so I don't know
