Historic Sites
Itsukushima Jinja, a venerable 16th-century Shinto shrine, is renowned for its iconic orange gate that appears to 'float' at high tide. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has a rich history dating back to the 6th century and features a unique architectural style that allows it to coexist with the sea's tidal movements. The shrine complex includes notable features such as a Noh theater stage and beautifully connected boardwalks above the sea.
Really beautiful, impressive and huge. The red colour stands in an amazing contrast to the greenery of the mountain and the blue of the sea and the sky. If you go with a guide, she/he will also explain you the meaning of the statues at the entrance and inside the shrine (one has the mouth open and the other one the mouth closed, based on Sanskrit sound of the first and last letter, and meaning the beginning and the end), how to go through the tori gate (bow before passing through and leave the centre free for the deities to pass), how to pray and make a wish, etc, so it’s worth to hire a guide. Also, beautiful place for memorable photos ❤️

Really nice area and in general beautiful shrine. I was there in a week day in September 2025 where the tide was low. The prices was okay - The ferry it was around 200 Yen for an adult ticket. - The entrance to shrine Itsukushima Jinja it was 300 Yen for an adult. It's not because it was really expensive, but personally I was a bit disappointed about the shrine it self. It's very similar to other big shrines (where a lot of places you don't need to pay entrance) so it was not so out standing it self, as I have expected. There was good sight to the red gate, there maybe the most popular by this shrine. But beside this it was in general really lovely area. If the tide is low, as when I was there, I personally will recommend to go down on beach, instead of pay to go in to shrine. I think that it at least as beautiful, of not more, to be down around the gate than in the shrine.

🏯 Itsukushima Shrine Great Torii (Miyajima, Hiroshima) Review When I visited Itsukushima Shrine, the tide was low, and the water around the famous red Torii gate had receded. Even though it wasn’t surrounded by the sea at that moment, seeing this World Heritage Site up close was still a deeply moving experience. Standing before such a historically and spiritually significant place filled me with admiration and peace. Many visitors from around the world were there, all captivated by the shrine’s atmosphere and beauty. I also took a boat tour around the area, which offered a lovely view of the island and the Torii gate from the water. The nearby resort area was a wonderful place to relax — the air was fresh, the environment was clean, and the food was organic and delicious. The staff were very kind and welcoming, making the stay even more enjoyable. Overall, visiting the Itsukushima Shrine and its Great Torii was an unforgettable experience. Even during low tide, the site’s spiritual energy and natural beauty left a lasting impression. It’s a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Hiroshima who wishes to connect with Japan’s culture, history, and nature in a peaceful setting.

Miyajima Island - what a fantastic place. We went there with our private tour guide which we took for a whole day in Hiroshima. You can get from Hiroshima to Miyajima Island by train ( JR ) and a ferry from the Harbor or if you are in a hurry you can get also a taxi to the Harbor , a little bit more pricey but more convenient. The trip with the ferry is quite a short one , maybe 10 - 12 min. By the way we paid also for the ferry with our Suica Card. So it was very convenient. Once we arrived to the Island a lot of deers welcomed us. Very nice creatures and they are considered sacred and are protected and they’re believed to be messengers of the Shinto Gods. We saw the main sites on the Island and it took us almost a half a day. Itsukushima Shrine is a wonderful one and also Daisho-in worth definitely a visit. We went just under the iconic giant Torii to take some lovely pictures. By the way the giant Toriiin the sea on Miyajima Island is called Otorii of Itsukushima , and this is the famous floating Torii which is in the water when high tides are in. We visited in the morning and it was a low tide , so we could walk underneath ant to take pictures with it also from the other side. We highly recommend to go early in the morning , low tide and less crowded. The Torii’s legs are not buried in the sand and he’s standing there by his own huge weight. Bottom line Miyajima Island is a very nice place to visit , beautiful landscape , many small shops on the narrow streets , great street food & restaurants. A highly recommended place for a half day trip from Hiroshima. Just bring comfortable walking shoes and hit the road.

Visiting Itsukushima Jinja Temple in Hiroshima was an unforgettable experience! As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the temple is absolutely stunning — especially the iconic “floating” torii gate over the water. The atmosphere is peaceful yet full of life. I loved meeting and gently petting the friendly deer that roam the island — such a unique experience! I also tried the pull-bicycle (rickshaw) service, and the driver was incredibly nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. He explained the history of the temple and made the whole visit even more special. A must-see spot in Japan for its beauty, culture, and amazing hospitality!

Itsukushima Shrine is one of the most famous Shinto shrines of Japan, famous for its floating torii gate. The torii gate was built on water as the island is considered sacred. Apparently the place is from twelfth century but the current structure dates back to nineteenth century. The shrine is peaceful and beautiful and looks out over the sea. There are many deers on the street, but feeding them is not allowed.
Chhanda B — Google review
This was a trip worth taking. The island of Miyajima was a short trip away from Hiroshima. There are many ways you can get there, we went from Peace park, a 45 min boat ride. When we got there, we got greeted by deer and after 10-12 minute walk we arrived to Itsukushima shrine. Perfect weather with calm sea. We were lucky to witness part of something we think was a weeding ceremony of a lovely couple. Took couple pictures on the side of the shrine because we didn't feel like waiting for the one social media photo.
Adam ( — Google review
Awe-inspiring! We arrived in the late afternoon (4pm ish) and were able to get some great initial pictures. We then entered the shrine area and waited in line to get pictures from out on the pier closer to sunset. We ended up walking down after dinner as well to see how the torii gate was lit up and to see all the walkway lanterns. The next morning, we could see lines of tourists forming that were triple the amount we had to get through the day previously. Morning seemed to be the most chaotic.

Buddhist temple

Sacred & Religious Sites
Daishoin is a significant Buddhist temple complex located at the base of Mount Misen on Miyajima. Established in the 12th century, it features various halls and carved stone images, including the Kannon-do and Maniden halls. The temple is just a short walk from Itsukushima Shrine and offers daily access to visitors.
I must confess, this was one of my favorite place to visit. It offers a lot and it is free entrance. Let’s start: 1. The entrance start with some rocky stairs surrounded by a very beautiful nature. Every step allows you to see like small shrine, some small statues where the people left coins and the main entrance of the temple. 2. Just before the main entrance, you can ring a bell (for free, we did the same in Kyoto and we paid like ¥200/$1.40 aprox) 3. The entrance, before going into the stairs, were protected by 2 statues that are pretty nice. 4. Inside you will see like shrines or temple (sorry my ignorance, do your homework to avoid this type of confusions) mixed by a lot of nature. 5. My fav vid from today is one that the temple is surrounded by a fog, it is not always on, you will have to wait for the correct moment. Because I do not know how to express with the corrects words what I witness, I will give you my pics and vids Disclosure: Every time I read that photos and vids were not allowed I obeyed, DO the same. There are some people who believe they are geniuses because the got the vid, they are not…

I honestly loved this place! The temples are absolutely stunning—peaceful, beautifully preserved, and full of history. There’s such a rich sense of culture everywhere you look, from the intricate statues to the sacred rituals happening quietly in the background. It’s a spiritual and serene experience that really stays with you. Definitely one of the most meaningful stops on my trip to Japan!

Beautiful Buddhist temple, 100% worth the stairs! It is built on the mountain where you can have a great view of the town and sea. It's so great to walk around the garden, next to a clear beautiful stream. The 500 rakans with red beanies are interesting to look at. There's a temple stamp that you can collect as well. You can spend 1 to 2 hours here.
Linh T — Google review
This temple was really awesome. It has a little of everything and in a beautiful setting. There are a lot of stairs though so be prepared for that. One of the temples blows a bunch of mist out of the bottom that makes for a very cool picture. I wasn't expecting it so I didn't get a very good shot. There is also an underground path in one of the temples that is completely dark and you have to navigate with your hands on walls. I think it is supposed to represent rebirth or something.
Brett B — Google review
Beautiful temple with many well kept statues. You should hit the bell (it’s a way to get rid of bad desires in Buddhism according to the guide who went with me) and also go through the dark tunnel (it’s ok, the floor is even, there’s no risk of tripping, and the corridor is rather short). There are some steps but totally doable.

An absolutely beautiful shrine on Miayajima / Itsukushima Island. Would recommend going early to avoid crowds that begin around 9 am. Be sure to wear socks as you need to remove your shoes to enter one of the buildings on site.

One of the best temples we visited yet! So unique due to its location up at the base of Mt. Misen. We loved all the red hat Rakan, the beautiful Henjokutsu Cave and how everything seemed to blend beautifully into nature.

This was my favorite temple during my trip. So many things to see inside, make sure you walk all the way up, take a look to the waterfall, walk all the mini temples, small buddhas with hats. This was the highlight of my visit to Mijayima

Shopping mall
Shopping
Alpark East is a lively and stylish shopping mall located near the JR Shin-Inouku hi station in Hiroshima. It offers a diverse range of boutiques, restaurants, and services, along with entertainment options such as a game arcade and cinema. The mall is conveniently connected to the JR station by a pedestrian bridge, making it easily accessible for shoppers.
Easy to get to from the Outlets Shopping Mall. We ate dinner there. Wide selection of restaurants to choose from. Each of us ate from a different restaurant.
Daniel O — Google review
The mall is big with wide open spaces. It has the basic necessities you need in everyday life. A big Muji store is also located here. Upon observation, circa 2021-2024 the mall seems to lost its glory. Many merchants on the west side building got closed. Most people only visit the mall during the weekends, old age people are also the majority residents near the area, and busy work/ school schedule affects the amount of people sightseeing the mall during weekdays. GU (a sister company of Uniqlo) once have a store here. Reminiscing the old days of its glory it was one of the major malls in the city before The Outlets Hiroshima was established. In addition, if the current above mentioned conditions will continue, I think the mall could be close in the next 5-10 years due to bankruptcy if they don’t renovate and lower it’s operational costs.
Dione L — Google review
Decent selection of stores. Food court on the lowest level. Large electronics store on the 3rd level.

Indoor and open air styled shopping mall with Muji, The Gap, a food court, grocery store, movie theater and Starbucks. There are several specialty shops and restaurants. Great parking about a 2 minute walk from the facility that is free for the 1st 4 hours. Covered parking for the walk to Inokuchi Station.
David C — Google review
I enjoy shopping here on occasion. There is not a huge variety of stores, but it is clean and feels new.

There is a great animal farm there, kind of big too. But the parking is a bit confusing.

The mall is located near the JR station Shin-Inouku hi, which is 3 stops away from Hiroshima. There is a pedestrian overbridge which connects the mall to the station, ao it is a 5 min easy walk from the station. Walk past the Coco'a restaurant along the bridge. The mall is divided into 2 buildings, on two sides of street. Lots of branded stores. Several of them have a good collection of jackets and other branded clothes, bags, kitchenware, shoes, I ended up buying one jacket from "polar bear".
Avik P — Google review
Decent selection of shops separated into 3 malls connected by walkways, kids play park in between. Movie theatre multiplex in most recent of the buildings mountain side. Only vegetarian-friendly or vegan-friendly options are at Subway in food court or ordering off-menu by request for no-meat (Niku-nashi) or no-fish (sakana-nashi). Free parking for up to 4 hours. No traditional Japanese handcrafted item shops which would add more interest & appeal. Would also be great to see pop-up shops for local jam, honey, fruits & vegetables in a weekend farmers market. At moment same selection of shops found in every other mall in Hiroshima. Needs a little more high-quality, unique, local style to attract more customers. As Hatsukaichi is home to Kendama, how about a fun shop where people can design their own, paint & decorate & learn from expert shop staff for new tricks.

It's renowned as one of the best malls in Hiroshima, offering an unforgettable experience for visitors. Was in need of new pants and found what I needed at Levi and Gap. As an American living in Japan, shopping for clothes can be tricky. Since I slimmed down, I was able to comfortably fit into the largest size available which was encouraging. Just like the outlets in the US. Every brand imaginable can be found here.

It was ok but not easy to find each shop, I would recommend to add more directions and signs especially for foreigners
Seafriend S — Google review
Depending on what you what and how much you want to spend, The Outleocan be good. It gets very busy for parking late morning, early afternoon especially on Sundays. The food court area is big with some good priced delicious food. The large mountain restaurant is my favourite with a stack of fried chicken and rice. Not tried so many of the restaurants. Big game Center, and bowling and virtual reality areas. Quite expensive. Not tried the trampoline and ice skating but also looked reasonably expensive. Good number of stores, the sports shops in particular Reebok and Nike have decent bargains on trainers. There are a variety of designer shops but not shopped at them. GAP is big, and there's enough to keep you busy all day.

Wow, this is completely different. The first floor is a humongous food court, I'am not sure, but I think are around 100 different restaurants, cafes, even McDonald's including a supermarket. Second floor is retail stores, big names on bags, Michael Kolls, Under Armor clothing, and many more. Parking is free and has the choice of open or covered.

The Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima is a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of the atomic bomb during World War II. Originally known as the Hiroshima Prefectural Industry Promotion Hall, it was struck by the first atomic bomb on August 6, 1945. The building's unique European-style architecture and riverside location made it a prominent landmark in Hiroshima before its destruction.
This was my first time to come see this place and I was very excited. Knowing my grandparents were all impacted by WW2 this was a very interesting site. The done building was a good reminder of bad things in history. It was well preserved and had a lot of information to help tourists. The park was beautifully kept up and it was well respected. I recommend stopping at this place if you are in Hiroshima.

🕊️ Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome Review Visiting the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome was a deeply moving experience. It stands as a powerful reminder of the tragic events that took place in Hiroshima and serves as undeniable proof of the devastating impact of nuclear weapons. The museum exhibits and photographs vividly portray the horror, suffering, and human cost of the atomic bombing. They leave a lasting impression and convey an important message about peace and the value of life. This site teaches a painful but essential lesson for all of humanity. It is a place everyone should visit at least once — to remember the past and to reflect on the importance of preventing such tragedies in the future
さくら大山 — Google review
Seeing the Atomic Bomb Dome in person was a surreal and sobering experience. Once the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, it now stands as a preserved ruin - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the few buildings that survived near the bomb’s hypocenter. Walking around the site, there are signs and displays that tell its story, each one deepening the sense of history and loss. Nearby, the remnants of a fountain still filled with rubble serve as another haunting reminder of what happened here. Yet, even amid the ruins, spring blossoms lined the path. It is also easily visible across the river from Peace Memorial Park, a stark reminder of the dark history here.

This place is so renowned I believe I don’t have to explain more. A must visit if you’re here in Hiroshima. In fact, it might even be worth it to plan your entire Japan trip around this. I feel that everyone deserves to learn from the past and do not take peace for granted Visited on 27 January 2023, Monday.

A place that stirs such mixed emotions. A day to reflect , The Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Genbaku Dome) was the only structure left standing in the area where the first atomic bomb exploded on 6 August 1945. Through the efforts of many people, including those of the city of Hiroshima, it has been preserved in the same state as immediately after the bombing. Not only is it a stark and powerful symbol of the most destructive force ever created by humankind; it also expresses the hope for world peace and the ultimate elimination of all nuclear weapons. We can only hope that humanity never allows something like this to happen again.

Historical place, and also a nice park. Located in the central of Hiroshima, so you can visit here by riding a streetcar. The Atomic Bomb Dome itself has a very significant outlook, so you won't miss it. 😉

Excellent site along with the museum and park reflecting on the effects that the A Bomb had on Japanese people's lives during and after the bombing. The most important message that the Japanese are correctly making is that Nuclear weaponry should be completed eliminated worldwide, decommissioned, and to never ever be used again.

Saizeriya is a popular dining spot in Japan and Okinawa, known for its affordable and quick meals. The restaurant offers a digital ordering system that requires a smartphone. Customers can enjoy a variety of Italian dishes, hamburgers, steaks, escargot, and lamb at budget-friendly prices. Additionally, the establishment is praised for its inexpensive wine selection. Despite some challenges with the digital ordering process, Saizeriya is highly recommended for backpackers seeking delicious yet affordable dining options.
Absolutely! Here's a 500-word, 5-star review explaining why Saizeriya is the best place to eat: --- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Saizeriya: The Underrated Culinary Gem of Japan If you're searching for an affordable, satisfying, and unexpectedly charming dining experience in Japan, look no further than Saizeriya. Often mistaken as just another budget eatery, Saizeriya is actually one of Japan’s best-kept secrets—a perfect blend of Italian-inspired comfort food, Japanese efficiency, and unbeatable value. After numerous visits, I can confidently say this chain restaurant deserves a solid 5-star rating, and here’s why: 1. Unbeatable Prices Without Sacrificing Quality Let’s start with what grabs everyone’s attention first—the price. Saizeriya is shockingly affordable. We're talking full meals for under 1,000 yen, with many dishes priced between 300-500 yen. And this isn’t cheap filler food—portions are generous, the ingredients are fresh, and the flavors are surprisingly well-balanced. Whether you're a broke college student or a salaryman trying to stretch your yen, this place delivers gourmet vibes without the gourmet price tag. 2. Efficient, Fast, and Consistent Service Consistency is where many restaurants falter, but not Saizeriya. No matter where you go—Tokyo, Osaka, or Fukuoka—you’ll find quick service, clean tables, and a streamlined menu system. Ordering is easy, and your food typically arrives within minutes. The staff is courteous, and while you won’t get luxury fine-dining pampering, you will get exactly what you need: fast, friendly, efficient service that respects your time and comfort. 3. Shockingly Good Food for a Chain People joke about "Italian food in Japan," but Saizeriya actually delivers a unique Japanese-Italian fusion that hits the spot. The baked cheesy doria, spaghetti with meat sauce, and grilled escargot are cult favorites for a reason. Everything is designed to be accessible, comforting, and full of flavor. The menu is surprisingly broad—pastas, steaks, pizzas, and even healthy sides like salad and soups—all cooked consistently well across locations. 4. Relaxed, No-Pressure Dining Atmosphere There’s a reason why families, students, and solo diners all flock to Saizeriya: it’s casual, laid-back, and unpretentious. There's no pressure to order drinks, and no one’s rushing you out the door. It’s the kind of place where you can linger over a meal, catch up with friends, or read a book while sipping on unlimited drinks from the all-you-can-drink bar (for a small extra fee). The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between cozy and functional. 5. A Staple of Daily Life in Japan What makes Saizeriya truly special isn’t just the food or prices—it’s that it plays a real part in people’s lives. It's the after-school hangout, the quick lunch spot between classes, the quiet place for an affordable dinner alone. It’s part of Japan’s modern cultural fabric—a reminder that great food doesn’t have to come with white tablecloths or sky-high bills. --- In conclusion, Saizeriya isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a humble, dependable gem. Whether you’re a tourist discovering it for the first time or a local who grew up eating here, Saizeriya offers warmth, flavor, and affordability like few others can. Five stars, no hesitation.

A very nice and super cheap Italian restaurant! They serve a good amount of food here so be careful not to order too much! Drink bar is available and lots of parking space! Totally recommend this place if you’re on a budget!

It's not just saying reasonable price, but have to say, really cheap and delicious. Highly recommend for backpackers.

Always great

(Translated by Google) The food was reasonably priced but delicious. You can use your smartphone to read the QR code on the corner of the table, access the restaurant's system, and place your order. I was confused at first, but it was easy. I want to go there again because I can eat pizza and gratin really easily.

(Translated by Google) The pizza, corn soup, hamburger steak, and pasta were all delicious! I also appreciate that parking is free, and the seats are spacious, so it's great for families and large groups to relax. However, the air conditioning in the restaurant was a little too strong, so it felt a little cold. I was also bothered by the fact that there was some dirt on the bottom of the plates that looked like leftover food from the previous customer. Other than that, I was satisfied, so I'd definitely like to come back!

(Translated by Google) I ordered the new menu item, the cod roe and popcorn shrimp doria, and the cheese foccaccio. The doria was very delicious. As for the cheese foccaccio, I thought, "Hmm?" Would regular foccaccio be fine?" But as always, it's amazing that they can offer this quality on all the menu items at that price! And Saizeriya's tiramisu is really tasty, so I order it every time. (Original) 新メニューのタラコとポップコーンシュリンプのドリア、チーズフォッカチオを頼んでみました。 ドリアはとても美味しかったです。 チーズフォッカチオは、うーん?普通のフォッカチオでいいかな? と思いました。 しかし全メニューあの値段でこのクオリティー出せるのは毎度ながら凄い! そしてサイゼリヤのティラミスはかなり美味しくて毎回頼みます。

(Translated by Google) A delicious and affordable restaurant. Of course, it's a local-only restaurant, not designed for foreigners. If you can speak Japanese, it might be fun to grab a meal here. A pizza costs only 3,000 won, but it's delicious. A glass of wine costs 1,000 won, and all-you-can-drink soda is about 1,500 won. A family of four can dine out for around 20,000 won.
