Fuefukigawa Fruit Park is a popular destination in Yamanashi, known for its gardens, play equipment, and glass domes housing a fruit museum and greenhouse. The region is renowned for producing delectable fruits like peaches, grapes, and strawberries. Visitors can enjoy fruit picking at local farms from summer to autumn. At the park, guests can savor fresh fruits straight from the trees and explore various activities such as fruit workshops and orchard experiences.
Fuefukigawa is a huge establishment with many buildings, play areas, and planted green spaces. Very walk-able, but bring an umbrella during sunny days. The indoor domes get hot, so keep water with you. There is a cafe and a restaurant, and if you have the time the restaurant is very good with AC and reasonable prices.
Anthony R — Google review
Nice park where you can enjoy the scenario from the hill to the city. There is fish catching activity, and you can grill the fish after catching. It’s fun for kids.
Thang V — Google review
Beautiful place! There are all kind of fruit trees here. You can see how the gorgeous fruits are growing beautifully. Remember to be respectful and don’t pick the fruit! They have plenty of places around the area where you can buy all kinds of fruits. Also there are lots of areas where kids can play! There is the outdoor playground, aqua park, indoor playground in the dome, underground museum with interactive activities, and more. There are couple options for lunch time, fish grilling at the aqua park area, that’s seasonal. Bbq, restaurant, snacks, and the delicious seasonal parfait. I got to try the muscat one and it was amazing! Come early to enjoy as much as you can! Have lunch in the area, get some souvenirs and delicious treats and at the end enjoy at their onsen! A perfect day!
Miroslava I — Google review
Fuefukigawa is an excellent scenic spot. Many spacious parking lots, attractive views. Spend pleasant moments with your family, children, friends, and loved ones. Make memories of happy moments, but renew love in the best atmosphere. Refresh your mood with your favorite snacks, meals, barbeque, ice cream and soft drinks. A beautiful antique railway train is waiting for you to take you around the park. Water Park is a very enjoyable place for children. Where children fulfill their wishes. And with it the freshest fruits from the orchards are eager to accompany you. However, no matter how much we talk about the charm of this park, it is less.
Asif W — Google review
A huge facility. We could not explore everywhere as my kids were only interested in the water area. This was the highlight of our trip. The kids enjoyed playing in the water. Bring swimsuit and all the gears. the kids will enjoy it.
NanaAkua ( — Google review
Amazing place with beautiful views, with lots of fruits. Huge place with play areas for kids, lots of stores around to buy the fruits. Can spend and entire day with a bunch activities to do. By dusk the place looks very different with the breathtaking views it offers.
Sam L — Google review
Awesome place to spend the day. Non car access: bus from Yamanashi-shi. (I used electric bike along Fruits Line road from Isawa. Would recommend.) Space for kids, dog run, great views, an underground fruit archaeology museum, restaurants, shops, this place has something for everyone.

Super pretty, and I've heard the ice cream is great as well!! Featured in the hit anime and manga Yuru Camp! A must visit if you're a fan or near the area!!

Yamanashi Prefectural Science Museum, located in Kofu, offers a range of interactive educational activities and features a planetarium. Despite its small size, the museum is a must-visit for science enthusiasts. Originally housed in Maizuru Castle, it was relocated to its current location in 1998. Visitors can explore exhibitions on astronomy and technology.
I am not go in, but there are a lot of kid that play in here and park near this place. Eventhough not coming in, I go to the deck and get a very nice view of Fuji mountain. I think this is a good place to take Fuji mountain photograph on the clear day

small but a lot of things to try and experience, there s a big playground outside
Yo Y — Google review
The Science Museum covers many different topics, and the workers are wonderful with children. The overlook is an excellent place to view Kofu and Mount Fuji.
Anthony R — Google review
Excellent for kids at a young age. Quite a few of interesting activities indoors which are fun and educational. You can check the website to find out the dates and time the planetarium open for visiting. There is also a large outdoor playground suitable for kids at all ages. There is a sign showing that you can walk to Kofu JR station but the fallen leaves covered the track and became quite slippery if unprepared.
Nelson L — Google review
The kids have fun, but it’s really a shame that so many of the attractions are so old and outdated or broken. There are a bunch of fun looking spots shut down to the kids as well. Please update all the attractions!!! Please open up all the climbing areas!!
James C — Google review
Great place to take kids. They have an incredible park outside with an obstacle course that goes all the way up the hill. Go to the very top to try out two zip lines.

Visited on 26th March. Better know quite some Japanese, since they don’t provide other language version. The planetarium is very interesting. The most astonishing thing is the observation point. The whole city is almost viewable if the weather good.

萌木の村 is a charming village that offers visitors a tranquil and idyllic retreat amidst lush green forests. The village boasts of cozy accommodations within a peaceful forest resort, where guests can unwind and relax. Visitors can take leisurely walks around the village, exploring its quaint shops and restaurants without having to pay any administration fees. Additionally, during August 2021, a grand ballet stage was being constructed in the vicinity adding to the attraction of this beautiful destination.
It’s autumn season and I love the halloween themed park! Pumpkins are decorated, there is a spot in the center of the park where you can get a really good pumpkin photo in aerial view lookout, and it was a bit cold so we had some S'mores outside! Coffee and cocoa were also available. Great place to get photo taken and if you love to go on a nature walk.
V M — Google review
Free entry, no need to pay Place is huge and there’s plenty of parking. The shops and cafés are pretty decent too. Inside, there’s a super famous restaurant and another one called Rock. I went during lunchtime and had to wait almost an hour! Weirdly, there were still lots of empty seats inside, but they still kept us waiting in line. I guess only they know how the system works. 😅 Anyway, I ordered their most popular dish and it was honestly so good! Big portions and seriously delicious. You order using a QR code on your phone, which is pretty convenient. Oh, and there are so many photo spots with gorgeous flowers around! Perfect for taking cute pictures and capturing the whole vibe. 🌸✨

This place is very nice. Got a few pretty gardens, many smaller shops with cool things to buy (including a deer head and its horns) and overall just a nice place to spend a couple of hours.

A pleasant walk-around with some restaurants and craft shops. The soft ice cream and the merry-go-round are the popular stuff here.

Scenic Walking Areas
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled in the heart of Yamanashi, Sun Meadows Kiyosato Ski Area is a year-round destination that promises stunning views and a variety of activities. Perched at an impressive altitude of 1,900 meters, visitors are treated to breathtaking panoramas of Mt. Fuji, the Yatsugatake Mountains, and the Southern Alps. This hidden gem offers numerous seating options perfect for capturing those Instagram-worthy moments.
This is a really friendly and efficient resort with well maintained slopes. Incredible views and great food right up the top. The bottom station has rental, ski school, equipment shop, food options. Short walk from the car park. It is ideal for beginners making the transition up to intermediate - this mountain allows you/your kids to do more white and sense of security. If you are already intermediate there is part of one slope that allows you to become comfortable with the idea of skiing black runs with confidence. If you are an advanced skier, the views of the mountains rising above you could be frustrating; if only I could reach up there; or there; or there! You may need to re-orient your expectations to working on improving your style or enjoying the forest on the chair or gazing at Mt Fuji. BEST FOOD AND VIEWS ARE UP THE WOODEN STAIRS TO THROW DECK UP ABOVE THE TOP LIFT. Soup is my pick; pizza was my bf’s. This is a lovely spot in the world.
Nicolas T — Google review
This place was recommended by our hotel. We rented the whole gear and took lessons from 10-12 and 1:30-3:30. The staff was so friendly and patient. They spoke enough English. Our kids did snowboarding and we tried skiing. Limited vegetarian options for food but we had a nice fried pizza and fries with truffle and hot chocolate and chamomile tea. Getting a taxi from there to your hotel could be a challenge. Arrange a pickup beforehand or rent a car. It’s good to have a SIM card with calling options. The snow was artificial but alright for a novice. Afternoon hours are less busy as the kids ski school is done by then.
Manuela G — Google review
The main attractions (outside the ski season) are the kiyosato terrace at the top of the mountain and the go kart track. There is a souvenir store as well as a lounge and a restaurant. They do have tables set up outside to hang out. There's a huge free parking lot. Plenty of lockers available in the main lobby.
Guillaume7372 — Google review
Great little hidden gem in the middle of yamanashi. The main reason people come here is for the breathtaking view from the top and the numerous seating options that make it more instagrammable. Pricing is not bad, I cant remember the exact price but it's pretty standard pricing for using a gondola. There are couple of food options. There's a cafeteria with two shops at the bottom. One sells sandwiches and the other sells more restaurant style food like grilled chicken and pasta. Price are a little expensive but not too bad. At the top, there are 2 cafes. I didnt check one of them put but the one I did had only drinks and sweets. View is amazing you'll never get bored of it. There a couple of seating options. There the main beds which anyone can use, there's an hourglass next to each bed once the time is up then you should honor it and let the next people jump on. Some beds have 30mins and some have an hour I think. There are also reservation beds which you do through the site I believe. And there also bench and table options as well. The place was surprisingly relatively crowded especially on a Monday and no buses that reach the place as they have been suspended due to COVID19. Which brings us to accessibility. It's almost impossible to get to without a car. Usually there's a bus that takes you there, but that are suspended so the only way to reach it is by taxi or bicycle. Problem is there aren't many taxis in the area and the bicycle rental place also have very few bicycles available if you didn't make prior reservations. We almost didn't make it back to the station on time to catch our train, we had to get staff to call a taxi and had to wait about 40mins for one to arrive. All in all, great place that I highly recommend if you have the means to get there. Also it's doable for a day trip from Tokyo, it takes roughly 3 hours by train to Kiyosato Station.
Gordon M — Google review
A nice ski resort where there are rich courses for every skill level. You can rent ski equipment for every age. The ski school is great, there are even English speaking teacher to teach foreigner. The staffs are helpful, although not all of them speak English, they will try their best with body language to let you understand. There choice of food is very limited but the quality is good. There are not many skiers or snowboarders, so there is no waiting for the lift. The mid-cafe is a nice get away from the waiting parents down at the main building. There are some ticket combo to save you some money. I find it amazing that there are only little asian tourists in the resort.
Ric C — Google review
I think any ski resort it nice when you love to ski. I could only say that if you own some gears and suit less rent😊 no entrance fee just the ticket for the cable you desire. I went this place too early last dec. the snow is not yet thick but still i got the best experience i love it
MK M — Google review
Nice, but small place, but if you are beginner or just like a nice glide down a hill without any hard places, this one is great. Went there for only an afternoon and had a very good time.. Ski rental was 4000 yen (boots, skis), lift card was 4200 yen, so normal price..

It's a panoramic place especially at the top when you get off the cable car. It's the Kyosato Terrace. You get unobstructed wide views of the plateau and the mountain ranges including Mount Fuji.

The landscape unfolds before you, a breathtaking vista of nature's artistry. A gentle breeze whispers through the air, carrying the scent of wildflowers and freshly tilled earth. A sense of peace permeates the surroundings, a tranquil escape from the everyday clamor. Animals graze peacefully in the distance, adding to the idyllic charm. Local culinary traditions tantalize the palate with fresh, seasonal ingredients. The region's wines, crafted with care, complement the cuisine perfectly. Every element harmonizes creating an unforgettable experience. This is a destination that nourishes the physical and mental....

Marcie H — Google review
Very, very large place. You can enter the goat and sheep pen and play with the animals. But, if you want a good hike, the path takes you around the farm. Bring good walking shoes that aren’t afraid of getting a bit off the paved walkway. I took my dogs with me, they loved it but after hours of hiking they were calling it a day.

Yes, it's free but despite the amount of property this farm/ park has, there just aren't enough animals. Lots of empty areas with no animals within the fences.....We saw sheeps, goats, and ponies. Might be nice for a walk buy if you have baby strollers, be warned that it's uphill going back to the parking lot!

(Translated by Google) Not only is it located in a high-altitude area, but it's also very cool in the summer as you take a cable car up about 100 meters. With views of the Yatsugatake Mountains and the Southern Alps, the scenery is impeccable. The pizza-making experience is a very reasonable price of 1,650 yen per person, and yet it's a very satisfying experience, as you can stretch the pizza dough, top it with local vegetables and cheese, and have it baked in an authentic oven. You even get a free gift of freshly squeezed tomato juice or barley tea, or miso cucumber. Recommended for families. I visited in autumn, so there weren't many flowers, but the park was beautifully maintained and I was happy to see some rare species. Minami Kiyosato Roadside Station is a spacious, open, and pleasant place that makes the most of the terrain, but I feel like the traffic flow is a bit awkward... However, the lift at Minami Yatsugatake Hana no Mori Park and the open feeling of the park seem to make up for it. The stone-baked pizza I had at the food court was quite delicious. I'd like to come back next time when the early summer flowers are in full bloom. Nestled in the foothills of the Nagano mountains, Misogi Shrine is a serene and beautiful place to visit. The shrine is well-known for its connection with the famous Japanese pair singer Yuzu, who reportedly hold outdoor live performances there annually. Visitors can admire the stately design of the shrine and enjoy a peaceful walk around its well-kept grounds, which include a picturesque coy carp pond.

Visited on June 2nd 2019. This shrine (jinjya) is well known for the relation with the famous Japanese pair singer “Yuzu”. Local people say the pair singer hold outdoor live every year there. Besides, the design of the shrine is quite stately. And the desert the provided by the staff in the small Japanese restaurant are local and delicious. Parking lot attached. Great place for taking a walk and enjoy the Japanese culture.

It felt like visiting a cult HQ and there were strange fanatics with looks of contented confusion on their faces. No doubt it is a beautiful place but with a unusual vibe. Nice place for a picnic. Toilet is luxurious with air conditioning inside. Looks very well funded compared to most shrines in Japan.

The place is said to be purchased by a Japanese pop group called "Yuzu" to his mother which is member of a different cult. So Im not sure if is really a Shinto temple. Is also known as concert venue for different kind of music. The place is beautiful. Regardless whoever is the owner.

Restaurant
ROCK is a well-established restaurant and brewery that has been a favorite spot for many, with some patrons having visited since childhood. The place is known for its delicious beef curry served with rice and salad, as well as their grilled meats. While it may be a bit pricey, the staff are friendly and provide great service. Customers rave about the tasty beef curry and beer, along with the cozy ambiance created by the fire stove in the center of the store.
Shoutout to the Nepalese staff that was so attentive and polite. Had the regular rock curry with bacon, fries fritters and a pizza. The beef curry was something similar to rendang, but all was good. Food was served promptly too.

The food is sooo good! Honestly, I could come here every day. The staff are really friendly too—always greeting everyone and super quick to help out. I went for lunch on a Sunday, so of course there was a line. I waited almost an hour, but it was totally worth it because the food was just that good! I ordered the most famous dish here, and it did not disappoint. They also have beer that’s supposed to be really popular too. The toilets are super clean, which is always a plus. Oh, and it’s not just a restaurant—there’s also a shop inside where you can buy different kinds of sausages. While waiting in line, you can check out the menu by scanning the QR code, and when you finally get a seat, you also order through a QR code on your phone. Super easy!

The atmosphere and the beer are fantastic. The curry on the other hand was just okay. The portion size is quite large for Japan.

est. 1971, The Rock was a part of my central Japan vacation experience. I kept the details Top Secret to my family, yet my kids were wondering why we needed to drive over an hour from Kurizawa, Nagano for dinner. My entire family was impressed. I started with the beer sampler, which I would recommend. I found a wiener sampler on the Hors d'oeuvre menu, and upon inquiry found out The Rock makes its own wieners, and the three on the menu are not inclusive to all the wieners they make. I recommend ordering all five wieners, which come with spicy true mustard, and sauerkraut, which is amazing for remote Japan. My Cub Scouts and Boy Scout expertly roasted marshmallows over the fire, and we had Japanese customers spying on our technique, which is really open source. 30' Christmas Tree fully decorated topped off the night thank you for a fantastic memory.

Ice cream shop
Seisen-ryo Jersey Hut, a dairy store in Kiyosato, has undergone renovations since February 2018. The pathways have been revamped and the porch has been redesigned to create an open space with comfortable viewing benches. Inside, the area is now a continuous enclosed space that offers a picturesque view through its large windows. One of the most exciting additions is an ashiyu leg/foot bath, allowing visitors to enjoy ice cream while soaking their feet.
The ice cream is sooo niceee 😋 the burger also very delicious. Not to forget the bread. Everything looks and tastes very good. They also have a souvenir shop where they sell their local products and their self made dairies like cheese, milk, yogurt and cake.

Whoever comes here, us to taste their delicious homemade ice cream. On site, there's also a souvenir store, a bakery (bread made on site) and a Cafe selling burgers ( With delicious homemade buns). The signature Burger is Very tasty. Seats available inside as well as on the deck or grass area on the side. Big free parking is available across the street. Also, there's a foot bath on the deck. Nice view of the mountain from the outside deck. Usually they keep some cows in the grass field in front of the building too.

The milk is so good! I got hot chocolate, yakipurin (toasted pudding?) and a small package of milk that we used in our room to make milk tea. They also have an ashionsen to dip your feet in.

Great view of mt fuji and the surrounding moutains on a clear day. Had the Y900 premium milk ice cream, very subtle difference from the normal Y500 one, so take your pick.

They've renovated since I visited last February 2018. They paved the way ways and redid the porch so it's nice and open with viewing benches. The inside is a continuous enclosed space with big windows to look outside. The most exciting thing is they added an ashiyu leg/foot bath! I'm sure it would be heaven to eat ice cream and soak your feet.

Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant
If you're on the hunt for an authentic Genghis Khan experience, look no further than かつみ食堂. Nestled in a charming locale, this restaurant offers a delightful raw lamb set meal that stands out for its lack of strong odors often associated with Genghis Khan dishes found elsewhere in the Kanto region.
Great local food, great service, decent pricing!

Nothing very special about it TBH. I have heard about this brand a lot but it's just and lamb yakiniku with a simple experience. Maybe in Hokaido the experience is different. But I recommend of you are going first time don't expect too much. It's just a small and regular yakiniku shop in countryside. They have small parking.

(Translated by Google) I've always wanted to come here. It's a Genghis Khan restaurant! Maybe because it was a weekday, we were the only customers... I saw a lot of posts saying it was crowded... The opening hours are until 2pm, and we arrived around 1:30pm, so maybe that's why? I ordered the raw lamb set meal with vegetables It was so good♪ The meat was delicious, but the sauce was also good. I highly recommend it.

(Translated by Google) I had lunch here while staying at a nearby vacation rental. Initially, I had planned to have soba noodles, but when I went to the restaurant on the day, I found out that I had to make a reservation in advance, so I quickly changed my plans and chose this restaurant, which had a good reputation through word of mouth. As soon as I got out of the car, the delicious aroma of Genghis Khan wafted through the air. I ordered a raw lamb set meal, and an unfamiliar iron plate arrived. The depression in the middle seems to be designed for boiling bean sprouts. I prefer to have them fried, but my partner was delighted as if he had been waiting for this. The lamb had no peculiar taste at all, and was as delicious as the raw lamb I had in Hokkaido. The sauce in particular was excellent, and it went down well with the rice, so I had seconds. I would like to visit again if I am in the area. Thank you for the meal 😋 (Original)

(Translated by Google) A restaurant where you can eat authentic Genghis Khan. I visited with an acquaintance and had the raw lamb Genghis Khan set meal. Genghis Khan eaten in the Kanto region tends to have a strong odor, but the Genghis Khan at this restaurant was very delicious and had no odor. The plate for grilling the meat is divided into four areas, with an area for boiling vegetables in the middle. It seems that plates of this shape are used in Nagano and Yamanashi prefectures. Since the areas are separated when multiple people are grilling and eating meat, it is easy to see which meat you are using. We had a set meal, but the Genghis Khan was so delicious that we ordered additional lamb. The menu on the table has a guide on how to eat it deliciously, so even if it's your first time eating Genghis Khan, you can enjoy it without any problems. I would definitely like to stop by this restaurant again when I visit this area.

There were only two types of lamb, fresh and frozen, and I had the fresh lamb. It was soft and delicious! What I liked most about it was that you could boil the vegetables and eat them with it. They were lighter than grilling vegetables in the lamb oil and very tasty. It would have been great if they had one more type of sauce. I'd like to visit again! Unagi restaurant
Itutuya, a charming unagi (grilled eel) eatery in Kobuchizawa, offers a delightful surprise for food enthusiasts. Located conveniently near the train station, this restaurant highly recommends making reservations due to the approximately 30-minute preparation time. The standout feature of Itutuya is their exceptional aged eel dishes, served in small portions on the à la carte menu.
Without a doubt, Itutuya is my favorite Japaanese restaurant specializing in unagi . Every time I visit Kobuchisawacho area in Yamanashi, I will stop by this place. Unlike other unagi (eel) restaurants, they offer “aged unagi”, an unique traditional technique which eliminated the smell of eels and increased their umami. It also created a crispier skin and juicier meat. They offer aged unagi in kabayaki style, shirayaki style or if you like, you can go for half and half. Their non aged unagi is also extremely flavorsome. And let’s not forget their special bamboo sake, is has a refreshing aroma that goes really well with the eel. Itutuya is getting more and more popular nowadays, be prepared to wait in-line even with a reservation. And when you make a reservation for 5 people and above, don't be surprised if they ask you to pre-order a head of time.

Nestled in a picturesque setting, Heidi's Village transports visitors to the enchanting world of the Swiss Alps, inspired by the beloved 1974 anime 'Heidi, Girl of the Alps.' This charming model village features stunning flower gardens and offers breathtaking mountain views. Guests can indulge in delicious fondue at its restaurant while soaking up the serene atmosphere.
An unplanned visit to this area for sunflower fields led us to Heidi's village. One of my fav shows from childhood and this place gave me so much happiness ❤️ The place is a replica of everything in the show - the town, church, tower, Heidi's mountain is a miniature though. You'll need a few hours to spend here walking around the town, mini museum, garden and shop. Very cute set up for Heidi fans. Every character is introduced and you can take pictures. The show's background music plays right from the entrance. The shop offers souvenirs and has a small cafe too. Must visit place is you are crossing this area in Nagano.

Heidi's Village in Nagano, Japan is based on the children's novel Heidi by Johanna Spyri. The park is located in a beautiful mountain setting, and it features a variety of attractions, including a replica of Heidi's house, a playground, and a petting zoo. I recently visited Heidi's Village with my family, and we had a wonderful time. The park is well-maintained and the staff is friendly and helpful. We enjoyed exploring the replica of Heidi's house, playing on the playground, and feeding the animals in the petting zoo. One of the things I liked most about Heidi's Village is that it is a great place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Japan. The park is surrounded by mountains and forests, and there are a number of places where you can sit and enjoy the scenery. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to Heidi's Village if you are looking for a fun and educational experience for the whole family. In Short: Heidi's Village is a charming theme park based on the children's novel Heidi. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Japan, and it features a variety of attractions for the whole family.

This curious tourist spot is lovely under the right conditions. Too hot for us and the flowers during our visit, but perhaps spring or fall would've been more pleasant and colorful. The areas around the actual village are gorgeous and well maintained, but the grounds can get a bit unkempt further out. The goats and rabbits seemed a bit cramped in their pens and cages (a big negative mark in our minds). Not bad for the entrance fee of ~700 yen for adults, but timing is important. Obviously, if you are familiar with the Heidi anime of old, this is a spot to definitely visit, though merch was lighter than expected.

A Swiss in Japan. Romantic venue for a western-style garden weddings or simply at a grand chapel . Flowers are everywhere. Thanks to the highly-trained caretakers who carefully tend the vast gardens. Summer is pretty hot so bring umbrellas and wear hats or wear comfy clothes and shoes too. There are souvenir shops, museum of Heidi, the little girl of Alps. There are also coffee shops and restaurants for your convenience. The observation tower has a lift/elevator for the olds and physically challenged. Excellent for adults on dates. There is a kid's park for families to have quality time. Goats, some rabbits and school of Koi can be fed. Excellent for all ages!

Nestled in the picturesque Hokuto area, the Akeno Sunflower Field is a breathtaking sight that comes alive during the annual Akeno Sunflower Festival, held from late July to mid-August. With over 600,000 vibrant sunflowers stretching across vast fields against a stunning mountain backdrop, this festival offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike.
A weekend visit by car to the famous sunflower field. There was a congestion on road leading to the car park, and it took us around 30 minutes to cover the last few hundred meters. The fields have multiple divisions and they are grown with periodic gap so that one or two lots are always in full bloom in the season it’s open. Lots of food stalls are setup for enjoying the day out.
Naresh D — Google review
A beautiful place to go during the sunflower season. I think Van Gogh might have his other inspiration for his paintings. During the festival they also have a lot of food and beverage. One that stood out was the sunflower ice cream. That was a sweet yet a bit savory flavour.
Ferdinand W — Google review
It is open for the festival as of 21st July 2024. They do charge entry of 1,000 yen in cash which includes parking.
Irene Y — Google review
It seems that there are 2 sunflower fields along the road that's close to each other, wherein they don't bloom altogether but blooms in batches as to continue the festival for a month. Great strategy! There is also blueberry picking that is very affordable and fun. These fields are close to the Heidi no Mura (Heidi's Village) which is also a must-to-see. Visit the local farmer's market nearby wherein you can buy Beets and other farm produce. Food and drinks flood the parking space so don't worry getting starved. Just keep cool from the scorching sun. Car park costs 500yen.

During the Sunflower Festival (late July to mid August), it’s definitely worth seeing. They have super yummy food stalls, a monkey show at scheduled times, and a blueberry farm where you can harvest and pick your own blueberries! The sunflowers are also gorgeous, and it’s a very photogenic place.

The Akeno area in Hokuto City has the longest period of daylight in Japan, and is the location for several majestic fields with 600,000 sunflowers. There are also cosmos flowers along the circumference of the sunflower fields, and shops on the premises sell local produce and souvenirs.

We were here with a local tour in August. The sunflowers are nice and you could walk down the fields for better pictures. Floors could be slippery and muddy. There are several water points nearby for washing your feet/shoes. I would recommend wearing slippers or sandals for that purpose. There is a little shop which sells ice cream, fresh corn and other produce. The fresh corn was sweet and nice. There are indeed quite a lot of group tourists like us, so you might have to take turns for best pictures.

Great place to experience insect catching as well as observation of oomurasaki butterfly, Japanese national butterfly.

The Hokuto City Omurasaki Center gives an experience where you can enjoy the rich natural environment as it is one of Japan's leading habitats of the national butterfly Omurasaki. The location can be accessed from JR Hinoharu station. This is a wonderful place to spend time with children. Omurasaki butterfly is the main theme of this place and it is spread over 6 hectres. This place includes a small museum, an ecological observation facilty (with an entrance fee 450 JPY) and a nature park with watermill. You shouldn't miss this place if you are interested in insects.

(Translated by Google) You can observe live purple emperors up close. They make a bird-like flapping sound, which is quite impressive. The best time to see them is from mid-June to early July. In addition to the purple emperor, you can also see many other butterfly specimens and rhinoceros beetles collected from all over the world. There is also a wide selection of insect goods. Highly recommended for insect lovers.

(Translated by Google) There was a corner where you could interact with rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles, and we saw a lot of large purple beetles (July). The children were very satisfied with the insect catching experience, catching a variety of insects such as Japanese stag beetles, grasshoppers, dragonflies, and frogs on the premises and had fun all day. For 600 yen, you can win an adult stag beetle by drawing lots (this seems to change depending on the season, but it seems that the best time to do it is from mid-July to mid-August). There are not many places to eat in the area, so if you bring a packed lunch, you can eat it leisurely on the terrace seats of the facility. (Translated by Google) I visited on July 31st, 2025, around 1:00 p.m. on a weekday. The parking lot was about 60% full. I walked down the slope, wrote down the number of people in my group on a slip of paper at the entrance, and paid the entrance fee. Once inside, I was greeted by rows of stuffed animals from the nearby forest, exhibits on the anatomy of the Great Purple Emperor butterfly, and insect specimens. Unfortunately, the specimens weren't in very good condition, giving off a distinctive insect smell, and the interior is a bit dark, making it difficult to see the insects' colors. In the room where the Great Purple Emperor butterflies are kept free-roaming, you can observe many of them sucking nectar at the feeding area. However, I'm not sure if I visited too late or if they had been grabbed by too many people, but their wings were tattered and their scales had peeled off, making it difficult to fully see their beautiful colors. Early July might be the best time to visit. Even so, I would like to express my respect for the efforts of the staff who have created this valuable environment where you can see live Sasakia charonda. There is also a room where you can see rare live rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles, and Hercules beetles, rainbow stag beetles, and Paris stag beetles are all roaming free (though handling is prohibited). For just 100 yen, you can borrow a net and cage to collect insects in the adjacent forest (you then release them; you cannot bring your own net). As the zoo is located in the forest, those who are prone to mosquito bites should apply insect repellent before visiting. The souvenir corner sells rare live rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles, although they are quite expensive. This is a fantastic place for anyone who loves insects, not just giant purple emperors.

(Translated by Google) I visited in mid-June. I stopped by to see a live purple emperor butterfly flapping its wings. I entered the Purple Emperor Observation Facility at the very back of the Purple Emperor Center and walked around slowly, but I couldn't find any adults or even larvae. I pulled myself together and walked around again, and I found one larva. After finding one, I was able to find more and more larvae, and then a pupa. After finding one pupa, I started to see more and more pupae. But I couldn't find any adults. When I asked the staff on my way back, I found that adults can be seen from late June. There was a large insect cage called the Kabuto Kuwagata Fureai no Mori, which people can enter, and I was able to go inside and observe foreign rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles. (Translated by Google) I visited on an evening at the end of August. It was the last weekend of summer vacation, so it was bustling with families with children. I wasn't expecting much, but in addition to the display of Sasakia charonda butterflies, there were several other insect specimens, making it a very enjoyable place for insect lovers. The butterflies had already emerged, so I decided to look for Sasakia charonda larvae. I squinted my eyes in the biological observation garden and finally found the larva. It was very small and had a cute, horn-like shape. Next time, I'd definitely like to visit when the butterflies are emerging! Yamataka Jindai Zakura, located at the Jissoji Temple in Japan's Yamanashi Hokuto region, is a magnificent cherry blossom tree that has been blooming for over 2,000 years. As one of the Three Great Sakura Trees of Japan, it symbolizes longevity and has inspired the planting of its seedlings across Japan and around the world. Despite its age, this massive and gnarled tree continues to bloom each spring.
I visited during a rainy day, but it was still spectacular. The photos cannot reveal the full beauty of it. There's not just one cherry blossom tree but a bunch with my favorite being the space sakura

It's a bit hard to come (by walking), but it's worth it. I come on 28-3-2025, almost all sakura tree is bloom including The Jindai Zakura. I'm very lucky since Tokyo still not mankai 2 days ago.

A magnificent beauty! We spent around an hour there, just to enjoyed the scenery. One could see the southern alps as the background of sakura. Not too crowded even on the weekend. Access by car is best.

Go! Just go! I went in the pouring rain and if I catch a cold and die, it will still have been worth it. This is a beautiful little temple complex, technically open all the time but there are no lights at night. One of Japan's top three famous trees is here - a whopping 1000 years old and still blooming. No picture I take will come close to capturing the beauty of it. Also on site is an offspring of this famous Jindai Zakura, grown from a seed that flew on the International Space Station and then sprouted near its parent. There are other famous trees here, it's a small place, but I walked through twice. During normal hours there are two little shops on site - one sells the regular shrine charms for peace, health, etc. The other sells jewelry and other small items with petals from the Space Cherry inside. Just offsite are food and produce vendors, and there are restrooms on site. Definitely follow the transit directions on the website if you go by train - Google Maps wanted me to take a 5.5 hour route, it's really just under 2 hours if you catch the Limited Express to Matsumoto. This particular Limited Express does require an extra fee even if you don't reserve a seat, so hit up a green ticket machine before you get on. If it's possible to die of beauty, make sure your affairs are in order before you visit!

This definitely does not close at 5pm!!! We almost didn’t go because Google Maps says it’s closed, but other Japanese websites say it’s open 24 hours. We went at 6pm and saw the beauty of this old, gnarly tree against the sunset sky. Well worth it!

It is one of the best Cherry blossoms that we have viewed in Japan . Less touristy , mostly visited by locals . Free entrance Highly recommended !!
Choo H — Google review
Amazing! This 2000 year old sakura tree is a must see. It’s not only beautiful, but also the oldest cherry blossom tree in Japan. 🌸
John E — Google review
A 2000 year-old cherry tree is the big draw here, and it's worth the effort to get out to see it in bloom. Access is not great as it's a trek from the nearest station and buses irregular even at peak season, so a car is useful especially if visiting nearby sites.

(Translated by Google) On my trip to Yamanashi with my best friend from September 6th to 7th, 2024, my best friend told me that there was a restaurant where you could eat delicious egg-cooked rice, and since it was a weekday, we were able to enter without having to wait. The cafeteria is open from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., so it's best to go early on holidays. I ordered the egg-cooked rice set and a large serving of rice. After a while, a large bowl of egg-cooked rice set arrived, along with today's main dish, an egg. During the summer, chickens don't lay large eggs, so this season, the chicken came with 3 small eggs. I immediately cut it open, sprinkled it with soy sauce, poured it all over rice, and ate it, and it was absolutely delicious! First of all, the eggs are very fresh, so they go very well with rice. You won't be able to stop using your chopsticks. If you want to eat delicious egg-cooked rice, we recommend "Opponitei Kokko"! I also ordered simmered chicken wings, but they weren't very good.My best friend said it was too salty for simmered chicken wings, so I gave it 4 stars with a minus of 1. The egg fried rice was exquisite! ! Thank you for the meal. I also ordered egg pudding, which was also very delicious. They let me chain my dog on the terrace. The main dish is egg-cooked rice set meal, along with chicken curry and minced rice bowl. Even the regular size is quite filling, so the large size is suitable for adult men. We only use eggs from free-range chickens, and the raw eggs do not have the characteristic odor of eggs. Refreshing egg-cooked rice. The set meals, miso soup and chicken soup, are all very delicious with lots of toppings. I appreciate that the price is reasonable. You can also purchase delicious eggs as souvenirs. It was lunchtime on a weekday, but most of the seats were occupied. It is said that it is quite crowded on Saturdays and Sundays and there is a waiting time. Kitchen Ohana is a vegetarian restaurant that offers one-plate meals in a renovated old folk house with a great atmosphere. The host's warm personality adds to the experience. The food features locally grown and rare vegetables with strong seasoning, and the husband makes all desserts and special coffee. The staff's dedication to quality is evident, as they even provide recipes for their delicious dressings.
A jewel of a place. Restored kominka (traditional Japanese house), surrounded by mountains & nature. Fantastic vegan food (not easy to find in Japan) & friendly owners. A car is recommended to get here, although there is a local station 1 hour away on foot) but it’s well worth the journey!

(Translated by Google) I only knew the name, so I only learned that it was a vegan restaurant after a friend made a reservation for me lol It was really nice when I went there! The store has a nice balance of warmth from an old folk house, lamps of various shapes, and old items that create a mysterious atmosphere, and it also has a nice, clean feel. I thought the manager seemed really interesting from the beginning, and then another stylish lunch appeared! He explained each thing one by one, and when we naturally said things like ``huh~'' and ``hooah~'', he said, ``It feels good, it feels good,'' and made us laugh❀ The taste was better than I expected, and I tried my best to suppress my desire to eat more and more.◎ We were all moved by the luxurious meal while feeling the gentle taste and the ingredients and flavors explained to us✧ Dessert: black tea pudding, cabbage gelato, and peach compote I received a bite from a friend who ordered it, and it was also delicious ✧ This time we gathered for my birthday party, so I received a joint present from everyone. The wrapping paper was so thin that it was difficult to open, so I was having a hard time opening it, and the next thing I knew, the store manager was standing next to me with scissors and was very attentive and was looking at me closely! ! He's a guy who never runs out of tea, so I wondered why he noticed this so much, but it turns out it had something to do with his previous job. As expected from one word! It was hard to get through on the phone as they seemed busy, so my friend did her best to make a reservation for me. From what I was looking at, it seems that the calm time is around 3:30 pm, so if you want to go, please call around that time ☎︎ (Original)
