This snow/ski resort, is accessible for everyone even you are not doing ski. The ticket price for gondola, not too pricey. But, if you only want to play snow, maybe this is not for you. In fact, you can play snow outside the door near the rental area, with barely no one there. (No need to ride the gondola). There were too many people, and it can be dangerous if you are not aware of the ski-people. Even the parking space was full, and we need to find ourselves a parking spot, 15 minutes walking from the entrance. But still, there are many things to do other than skiing that you can choose. We were so lucky to have a snowfalls! But still, it was a good experience for all of us, especially me, who loves Japan the most.

A very ideal ski resort that is accessible via Tokyo. If you are looking for a nearby ski experience near Tokyo, this is the place. Can get very crowded on some parts but there are also some places here that are not crowded. All in all a good place and would recommend.

If you’re around Tokyo, if you can squeeze it in on your itinerary, please do. This is an amazing place! Winter Wonderland indeed. We went there around February this year. Be prepared with winter clothes. There are rental gears inside, but you can also bring your own. 🤍

Great ski/snowboard resort for beginners to intermediates. Access from Tokyo’s amazing (walk right off the Shinkansen to the resort, pick up your rental gear, then walk to life and go!) Views are beautiful and slopes are not so crowded on weekdays. Try to cafe which is on the edge of the slopes and is a great spot to take a break.

Lots of fun with family. Rent 2 sledges for a family. We spend 3-4 hours over here. If you wanna play snow. You better rent weather proof suit and rubber boots. Train from Ueno to Gala YUZAWA is convenient and easy. Trip start 8am it takes only 1 hr to arrive at Gala YUZAWA. Buy ticket and equipment rental take around 20-30 mins. Gondola will take around 10-12 mins to get the ski mountain. It’s a good place to visit even though you don’t ski. My kid really like to play here.

We had a good experience at Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort. As soon as we arrived at the station, there were people guiding tourists were to buy tickets. On the same floor, there are counters where you get your gondola and lift tickets. If you won’t be skiing, like us, you just need a gondola ticket and you will be able to go up and down as many times as you want during the day. The ride takes just a few minutes. We had big bag packs and left them at the station because it’s the only place where they have big lockers. We rented moon bikes at the top, they give you a helmet with a camera. When the activity ends, they give you a QR code so you can download your video.

GALA is easily accessible via shuttle from Echigo Yuzawa Station at Platform 5 (take the orange line). If you are not a local, don't worry because everything would be available in various languages as well. For example, if you are there to rent anything, forget the fear of being unable to communicate with the staff on what you want including your sizes etc. They have self-selection stations that allows you to pick and choose what you'd like to rent from sets to ala carte if you happen to bring some of your own gear eg. snowboarding wear etc. Prices are very friendly as well, with the snowboarding board, boots and helmet at a friendly 8500 yen, and a half-day, one-day lift ticket at 6500 yen. Be prepared to be greeted by powder snow with a variety of narrow and wide slopes. I was here on a Saturday in January but in the peak afternoon it wasn't that crowded at all on the wide slopes and you could still snowboard comfortably. Be wary though, the slopes may be a little steep for first-timers so do find an area to grasp the basics first. Love the big space, friendly prices and fast services. Cheers GALA!

Night ski was fun. In Yuzawa, I prefer playing snowboard at this snow mountain. The ski track is pretty fun, but needed to go up high to the top. Beautiful view. The snow here isn’t powdery though. It’s quite hard. But overall, I had a good time here.

I would say this is the go-to-resort when you are in Yuzawa. Especially if you are advancing from a beginner to intermediate level. The runs here are diverse, fun and easily accessible. It feels like a neighborhood ski resort and perhaps that’s one of the many charms it has. The family and I enjoyed the various FnB venues it has and there’s sufficient signage (and maps) around to keep you informed. It is also relatively inexpensive and there are also options of different rentals to choose from. I think this is the best ski resort in the Yuzawa area.

Always a favourite, shuttle bus really easy to follow and get to & fro echigo-yuzawa, routes are fun, view is spectacular especially during sunset. Not a huge range of routes, but should keep you busy for a day or two. Loads of rental options. Lots of food options on the slopes Get your passes before hand via kkday e.g. to save quite abit.

I had mixed feelings for this ski resort, some staff were good but some were the worst among Japan in my eyes. It was especially bad when we took a shuttle to the guesthouse near the Hatsukaishi area. When we got off, the shuttle driver stopped us from leaving and said it's the wrong station. Despite being a foreigner, my Japanese level is well enough for all the communication to be in Japanese. I tried to show him the location of our accommodation by using Google map, the driver said "there are so many hotels around the area and I DON'T CARE where you stay" in a really rude way and refused to look at my phone. I was convinced by the driver, what else could you do if a local insisted that you are going the wrong way? So the 9 of us moved our baggage back onto the bus. Later we found out it's the wrong station the driver brought us to, I tried to ask the driver to take us back to the station we initially got off, which was just 5 mins drive away. And he refused to talk to me anymore by saying "I don't understand you" (but I had been talking to him in Japanese like for 5 mins). He just told us to talk to the staff inside the resort centre and ran away with the shuttle. The staff inside told us that we initially got off at the correct stop. And it took us almost another hour to get back to the right place for the waiting time of another shuttle etc. This happened on Jan 23, 2025. Have to say other shuttle drivers and the centre staff were good. But that particular shuttle driver was awful. There are some additional problems with the staff controlling the ski lift. I stayed mostly around the Hatsukaishi area. Most of the time when I or friends fell from the lift while getting off, unlike other Japanese ski resorts, almost all the staff was indifferent to stop or slow down the lift and it was really dangerous. They just made gestures or yelled at you to leave ASAP.

Very nice and beautiful ski resort nearby Gala Yuzawa station. There are so many free shuttle bus to take in every station. You can take the Shinkansen from Tokyo here. Very convenient for transportation. The ski course are so wonderful and huge. People here are not as many as in Gala. And restaurants serves great dishes. So come here and enjoy it!

It is very big ski resort and has many shops and hotels inside or along the line of ski lanes. The lough it self is modern but not as please as Gala. For advance skier is recommend because it more variety and good for tourists as they have many restuarants too.

We will not recommend this hotel. We had 2 missing items during our stay: one Tumi toiletry bag and a pair of Prada sunglasses. The last time we saw the lost items was before we left the hotel to a ski resort nearby. They were put on the table in the room. Therefore, only cleaning staff who came in the room at 10 am or the staff who came in during dinner time (18:00 - 19:00 hrs) to prepare for the futons had access to the room while we were out. We reported the lost items to the hotel management but received no response, not even an apology. This is very disappointing and really changed our good image on Japan and the Japanese. Sadly Japan is not safe any more !!

Loved staying at this ryokan. A great traditional experience and the perfect place to wind down after a long day snowboarding. Shinkansen station was im easy walking distance with heaps of shops nearby. You can purchase ski passes and rent a snowboard here too, with a shuttle bus taking you to the snow resorts. The only fault was that it cost 500 yen per luggage to store them after check out.

Wonderful traditional style ryokan / hotel with the best onsen options. We soaked in the open watching the snow fall around us. The in house dinner and breakfast were delicious. The room was comfortable and service excellent.

Room are well maintained and comes with a separate bath and toilet . My room come with a high capacity aircon so no more stuffy room. Dinner are decent , nothing to shout . Onsen are great as they have 2 different floor Unfortunately they are not linked and you have to get dressed and a “long walk” . Level 6 onsen have a few small little pool with medicated herbs infused . Onsen is swapped in the evening at 7pm Short walk to the train station and hotel also provide feeder bus . Highly recommended

Many sake you can buy at cocolo, but they also do have other food products, I came in as I heard of ponshukan and they are inside cocolo For 500jpy you get 5 coins and a cup to sample sake Very nice experience. This shop is very nice to walk around to wait for Shinkansen

Enjoying walking around the souvenir shops inside JR Echigo-Yuzawa Station. There are a lot of local foods, sweats and Japanese sake as well as local restaurants. Great place to visit and enjoy!

Like everyone in the reviews are saying - definitely a must do when you arrive at the station! I found out about this place via google map reviews and honestly - despite not being a sake fan I enjoyed myself a little too much with the plum flavoured sake. Again - as mentioned, you need to line up and provide a 500 yen that will be broken down into tokens that you can insert to get a tester of the sake you choose. There’s so many and it’s easy to get a little overwhelmed but be like me and stick to the right hand side where the plum sakes are. You don’t be disappointed!

A sake(Japanese rice wine) tasting shop with over 110 sakes available from different local brewers of Niigata. Niigata brewing is renowned for its non-sweeten and mild-dry taste that differs from the famous Harima and Kyoto brewing. Here the local sake are with different sweetness, dryness and even fruit aroma. To begin with, buy some tokens at the entrance and you will get a small cup. Place your cup under the outlet of the sake slot you picked, then insert token (1-2 respectively) required and press the yellow button, the sake will be served. Such a complete collection of local sake is rarely found in other places. It is recommended to start a research to screen out the Niigata sake that you may be interested first before tasting them here. #56 Midorikawa would be my personal favourite that light drinkers from aboard can easily accept its mild yet elegant taste.

Such a great way to sample lots of different kinds of sake! This shop is located in the train station. There are machines with different sakes containing a variety of signage described flavor profiles at varying price points per sample. Tried a small handful of sakes and they were all really solid.

I visited around 6pm on a Tuesday. The place seems to have a crowd all the time. You pay at the front counter and get your coils to use to drink your sake. There's a huge range to select from and you can get more coins if you wish to.

This is the Sake Tasting Room in the Ponshukan Marketplace. All Niigata sakes. The most expensive of them all is numbered 115, Shirataki SEVEN at 10 coins a cup. There are also salt & miso stations to go with chilled cucumber for 150 yen a piece. Pairs well with any warmed, chilled or room temperature sakes.

Great variety of Sake and other liquors to choose from. 130 types in total. ¥500 gives you 5 coins, most of the sakes are 1 coin per cup. The premium ones are 2 coins and above. Definitely worth a visit if you're around the area.

You exchange ¥500 for 5 gold-coin tokens and then use those tokens in the vending machines. There is more than enough sake to choose from. Nearly 100 sake to choose from! You can also choose Shōchū and I believe I saw wine but we were there for the sake. You can also get cucumbers to munch on. You can either have that with various types of salt or miso paste. Water is available to cleanse your pallet. Very enjoyable and heaven if you love sake!

We are first time to be here, and mostly who come to this restaurant are local customers. We are here at 10:40 on Saturday, 20 minutes before the restaurant open. And we wait for getting inside it around 11:25, so you need to prepare around 1 hr to wait in line. But it worths, this is my favorite soba I have ever had in Japan. Me and my friend easily finish the noodle. The soba is tasty andかおり , but 天ぷら are just fine. A little bit too greasy. However, the てんいん are with great attitude, and the vibe is great. Btw, you also can buy the raw soba back to cook at you kitchen!

Assorted tempura Shrimp, Sand borer, green pepper, chrysanthemum, sweet potato, etc. Maitake mushroom tempura We waited for about an hour from checking in to entering the restaurant. After checking in through automatic seat registration, we spent some time by strolling around the souvenir shops inside JR Echigo-Yuzawa Station. We was able to check the progress of our seat reservation status online.

This restaurant is easily spotted right opposite Echigo Yuzawa Station. I came here with my wife and we had an amazing lunch here. We ordered 2 portions of soba and tempura to try. Their portion is super huge and we felt it will be quite a lot if you plan to order other dishes to try as well. They will also serve you hot soba soup to add into your dip which is perfect for the winter weather during my time of visit. It is a little pricy in my opinion. But the experience is worth it. Fun note: The waiting queue is usually quite long so remember to write down your names and walk around before your turn comes.

Amazing soba that keeps you full for a long time. I went with my wife and kids and had the soba for 4 and some tempura. However, it ended up a little too much. I should have gotten soba for 3 with the tempura. The price is a little expensive, but it is worth it. The soba dip is really cold and flavorful. I usually put in wasabi, but to enjoy the soba I only used the dip. At the end they give you the hot soba soup to add to your dip, which always makes things more enjoyable. The tempura was really crunchy and I used the salt. I felt it had enough flavor that I didn't use the tempura dip. It is close to the station so it is really easy to get to. If you go by car they have parking, but only limited space so I would go to the station as they have parking for 3 hours? or 2 hours for free. Enjoy!

Yuzawa's famous soba. Hegi soba. very delicious! The maitake mushroom tempura is also delicious. Please try it. Reservations can be made at the store. If you don't make a reservation, you'll have to wait a long time.

We ordered their udon cooked in a claypot, and it was the best udon we ever had. It is chewy and the miso was not overpowering. A good dish for winter to keep you warm and hearty. Tempura is good as well. Better come early as there was a line during peak hours.

theres not that many runs so it gets boring after skiing here for one day. the runs are all relatively easy and there is only one black run so if you’re more advanced it would be quite boring. the freshly groomed snow is a bit hard and icy but the ungroomed snow is very soft.

I loved the service and location. Very much accessible and easy to get around. Nearby location to have fun ski or snowboarding. Rental service was good. I loved the rental gears too. Very neat and fitting. All very good condition gears. Recommended if you are planning to have fun there.

Unfortunately the snow condition was bad when I went. When I went to the top the vision was unclear making it dangerous Especially the green course on the top, it was so narrow that I had 2 big crash with other people. While I recommend beginners to play at the bottom green zone, I wouldn’t recommend going to the top for beginners

Iwappara Ski Resort is a very beginner-friendly ski resort! The view is incredible.

If you are a beginner, this is a place for you. The terrain is flat and broad. Booked a 2 hour lesson from klook (SGD 190++ for 4 person). Can't believe we know how to ski after the 2 hour lesson!

One of the best skiing areas I have been in Japan. There are a variety of different ski lifts to go for different levels of difficulty. The highest peak closes at around 4:30pm which is a safe thing as during winter it gets dark rather early. However, if you still want to ski during the night there is also a night time area where you could ski well into The night. If you choose to go there be sure to bring plenty of warm clothes and gloves and they tend to freeze, yes, freeze as the snow melts on your gloves and freezes again. You can choose to live in one of the few hotels that are on The mountainside (1/4 up The mountain I think) where they provide Japanese style living quarters with public bathrooms and onsen (little small) as well as catering (small portions for those who are used to western portions). On a good day with clear weather the view is simply stunning. And is worth every penny and minute getting there.

It has a wide slope and good for beginners but the ski and snowboard rental here is not good. It only 2.5 hrs away from Tokyo by car. Good for 1 day trip

I’d give this a 3.5 rating. Was good but nothing that blows my mind. Had the black pork gyoza, tsukemen and extra toping (the broiled chahu pork, egg and menma) Tsukemen soup was good noodles was smooth but a bit thinner than what I would like. The extra topping was good. Definitely recommend you get it together with your tsukemen. The gyoza was nothing special you can just skip it.

So good! Must try the secret vinegar!!!!

This place has the unique distinction of being only the second business that I have ever given a rating below 3 stars among the hundreds of reviews I have written. To start with, the service isn’t great. They had some poor new staff member that was kind of left to fend for himself, meanwhile the more experienced older waiter just kind of ignored his lost puppy looks for help. The main reason for the low rating is that food isn’t good and they have a real problem. I have been here before and there was no anchovies on the marinara in the past. This year they switched to a QR ordering system, I ordered the marinara as I had in the past. When it arrived, it had two bits of cheese in it, so kitchen cross-contamination is definitely a thing here. Additionally, it had anchovies on it even though it’s not listed on the menu. When I pointed this out to the waiter, they remade it but charged me for both pizzas!?! For a pizza with an unlisted potential allergen? When the remade pizza came, it had a bland sauce, like they opened a can of Tomato sauce and sprinkled 7 flakes of oregano in the whole thing, it was over sauced, The dough tasted worst than a frozen pizza. I get that they are in a busy location and maybe have 3-4 busy months out of the year, but I suggest that the owner, staff, and cook take a long hard look at themselves in the down months, because they lost their way. Rest assured, I will never come back to this place, if you do, I really hope the quality improves for your sake.

My goodness- found a gem of an Italian restaurant near the back side of a train station. Starter salad by itself was an adventure. Tons of different veggies, fruits, and meat as well. I got salmon cream pasta, and it was just perfect. A very generous portion with a bit of roasted Parmesan cheese up top. Lost a bit of self control and ordered a pizza as well. Again, how could this place be sooo good and be hidden in the back of this train station!? Pizza was smothered with shiitake and I’m guessing their own sausage meat as well. Again perfect Also price was very reasonable. Too bad I live too far away to visit this more often

Another great spot for lunch or dinner in Echigo-Yuzawa. It is buried behind the souvenir shops, so if you are waiting for your train or just looking for a great meal, give this place a shot. Like Vitzaux, the food is tasty, well-presented and the apple pie dessert pizza...oh my.

Given the convenient location (in the station) and the price point, this is excellent value for money. The food is tasty, the staff are very helpful and would recommend if you are looking for some western food in Yuzawa.

Ate dinner twice here. Was quiet on weekday nights. Both cream and seafood pasta were great and unique. Fresh ingredients. Salad with smoked pork(?) was good too. Fillet Steak was great. Chicken and corn soup were okay. Kids enjoyed their pizzas. Prolly considered pricey relative to other restaurants at the station but worth it imo!

This place was a fortuitous find. Everything else in the centre was full with a line up outside or was taking last orders at 6.30pm. Murano Gozzo was neither of those and our group of 9 were seated quickly across 2 tables by a competent waitress who spoke a little English. We ordered pizza's, pasta and a slow cooked beef dish. I wasn't expecting anything special but I did spy the chef tossing and stretching the pizza base in the kitchen. The food didn't come out altogether at the same time but that's ok because it tasted great. We inhaled all our food - we were impressed with the pizza bases. Warm and toasty, soft and doughy. Just perfect. And the pasta was cooked perfectly to al dente. I couldn't understand why this place wasn't busy like the other restaurants in the centre. It really is a great gem. I'll eat here again next time I'm in the area. It really is excellent food.

Top class Italian with local flavors, at an affordable price. The chef here trained overseas and is contributing his talent back to Yuzawa using fresh, local ingredients and arranging them into his Italian dishes. Everything here is seriously good and perfectly cooked; it's hard to believe it's a mere station restaurant. (Until you visit the Muran Gozzo main restaurant across the street, of course) I can honestly say the pizza here are the best I've had in Japan; even the crust is delicious. Same grade Italian in Tokyo would cost twice or three times and have a long waiting list. Pretty much anything here is good, but they only serve meat dishes for dinner. The venue is cute and clean, and usually there is an English speaking staff. Lines could be long during ski season.

Spacious rooms. We got a private washitsu room for just three of us. We came here for Nodoguro and it was quite good. Not as tender as I remembered but still very nice. Also recommend the deep fried shrimps, edamame and cold soba.

Local Japanese style with a private room . We came 2 people. We got a small room but it was nice. Better to have a reservation. Order foods by QRcode with pictures. So, it is convenient for ordering .

I only came to Kandatsu because Gala was closed, and I was not disappointed. I loved the slopes, which I feel had something for every level. I lost my insta 360 going down a black slope but I managed to find it buried in the snow the 2nd time I descended from the top haha. Unforgettable experience. The resort and rental is very well organised, and the food at the middle of the mountain is nice too. Highly recommended.

Found this place because the ski resort I originally planned to go to was closed. So glad I did because this is a hidden gem! The runs are nice with an awesome view and not too busy which was handy as we had young kids learning to snowboard! Staff were accommodating and helpful

Nice resort next to Echigo Yuzawa. It is a good place for intermediate and beginner skiers. Very popular for snowboarders. It can be crowded during the weekend. The mid level chalet has a few good restaurants. The base chalet caters everything you need to ski. Access from Tokyo is easy with Joetsu Shinkansen. 70 minutes from Tokyo station.

Large and well maintained facility. Has an onsen on the 4th floor for apres ski relaxation. Has only two paths for beginner or low intermediate. But the few for those ability levels are nice and wide with some variety and interesting areas. It was quite empty on the first open day of the year which was really great. And the snow conditions were quite good. Lots of natural snow in the surrounding hills. Beautiful.

The coach was helping me to get up to the hill and the coach is very nice,this is my first time skiing in Japan, the coach was skilled, it is fun interesting and cool. it’s hard to walk with the boots, the coach called me big dock but it was fun. free sandals, warm with thick jacket.the googles was not expensive it is cheap. I fall many times by the way my coach name was Sebastian ,my name is kaaro 8 years old from Indonesia.I will come back for sure,don't be afraid skiing in the first time it is fun I try try and try and it worked well guys, it was scary when I tried it literally worked well. i play snow but it is cold, so I got back to the shop.

My family have been to NASPA twice this year and each time we have really enjoyed ourselves. The rooms are clean, the staff are friendly and the ski area is perfect for children. Rentals are quick and easy. Definitely would recommend this place dor a weekend getaway.

We visited in autumn so no snow yet. I imagined it would have been a great place on winter. Nonetheless there is a spectacular view of the town from a coffee shop there which is very relaxing. Small activites at autumn with the gliding var which my kids enjoyed. The garden would have been great if it was springnor autumn. We still had fun though.

We went at the end of october and the leaves already turned yellow/red, it was beautiful! Perfect for a weekend getaway staying in a ryokan and walking through the woderful alpine routes (they are 3 levels). You can buy the tickets for the ropeway also directly in the ryokan you will stay (it's cheaper). The air is incredibly pure and fresh over there and the views stunning!

I've passed through this station three times now (all in the summer), and while small, it has a lot of stuff to do. There's a huge area with gacha capsule toys, several restaurants, a really long area filled with souvenir shops, and even the sake onsen. Lots of accommodation in the town, and it's really easy to walk around outside on foot (in the summer).

Steam rises from rooftops; snow falls like feathers. Yuzawa hums with laughter and clinking sake cups — the warmth of strangers sharing winter. The train rests here longer, as if to taste the hot spring air. Tourist Tip: Famous ski and onsen town. Station has Sake Museum “Ponshukan” with tasting stations. Excellent overnight for snow or autumn leaves. Try onsen eggs and rice crackers.

Easy access to the snow & ski resorts around. The station has good connectivity through multiple options of bullet trains - Shinkansen, shuttling between Tokyo and Niigata. The station building is accessible for strollers and wheelchairs. Also, there is a beautiful food and souvenirs area inside the station, a convenience store too. Right outside the front of the station is a hot water feet dipping place.

Best places to go see snow if you want to go by Shinkansen. The only snow resort next to a shinkansen station. Only 2 hours from Tokyo and very easy to reach to. Also Genbi Shinkansen starts from here to Niigata which is an amazing art-sy kind of Shinkansen so it is fast but every compartment is designed by a different designer so it makes the ride fun as well. Highly recommended to go there. If you don't want to ski and just see snow conveniently from Tokyo, this is easy and faster way to reach. Also the station has souvenir shops and snow gear for rental of you do plan to go skiing. Lockers are available to keep your stuff if you want to just go out for fun. Food is also extensively available. Great place.

This station is the confluence of Shinkansen train (bullet train) and also the local train network in Niigata. The local train network in Niigata does not have automated gantry for stored value cards, eg seca. Stored value card can be used to purchase single trip tickets at the machine. When entering to the platforms, passengers need to show the ticket at the ticket counter to receive a stamp. Upon arrival, to present the stamped ticket to the ticket counter and will be collected. So it is still manual. The Shinkansen has its own automated gantry for its tickets. The station has a big area of duty free shopping for the local produce in Niigata. There is also a visitor information centre and postal service. There is a cafe with bakes and also a standing noodle bar. A convenient store is also present.

Train station with lots of restaurants and shops selling local produce. The ponshukan (sake shop) with many sake vending machines is a popular novelty though kids are not allowed. Free shuttle busses to various ski hotels and taxis are available just outside. A few restaurants too.

A fun little fishing experience for children. There are small ponds dotted down the length of a river filled with fish. Armed with a bamboo fishing rod and a choice of different baits you try to pull them out of the river. Once you have caught them you can clean and gut them, and then roast them on skewers on a charcoal grill. There is also one pond where you can pay to try to catch the fish by hand. The Fishing Park also has a large BBQ area where you can buy platters of meat, vegetables and noodles and grill them over the flames - no need to bring anything yourself.

I had a wonderful time here. I visited and they took no reservations so I was able to sit and wait. The front staff also took my order so my food was ready five minutes after I sat down. I got the 250 pork cutlet. It wasn’t oily and amazing taste. Service was very good and I enjoyed my time there.

It was limit the time to seats due to the winter season I guess. They allowed us to seat around 1 hour. The staffs were very friendly and helpful. We ordered Margherita, pasta, seasonal green salad and also hot coffee. Everything we ordered was delicious! The price also reasonable. They have a menu to see in mobile as well. Best place in Japan for pizzas. My European friends had been raving about this place for the longest of time and after going there for the first time, I realized how good it was. And as they say, the rest is history! Please call in advance for dinner reservations because it's really popular. They usually don't take reservations for lunch and the line would be really long especially during white season (Winter). But the wait is definitely worth it!!

Probably one the best and most authentic Italian place in Niigata. The atmosphere of the place really reminds of an Italian rifugio (mountain hut) and this is a MUST stop if you are in Yuzawa area. Both pasta and pizza are amazing and the meat is another level. The owner is a big collector of wine and Grappa so definitely go for it. ※P.S: I have been here almost every year, but I think they have recently changed the pizzaiolo. Quality is still good, but the pizza’s size has become a little bit smaller. Still recommend to eat here if you wanna enjoy real Italian food.

Best italian food I’ve had in my life. I’ve been to some italian restaurant in tokyo and some other countries but this is definitely the best italian food I’ve ever had. There’s quite a varietelt of unusual pizzas that are probably all good. The pasta was also amazing. A must try and must eat if you are nearby the area. They also have some pizzas that I’ve never seen being sold in other italian places in Japan.

Naibos ski resort is the biggest and best equipped in the area if not all of Niigata. It has high speed lifts, gondolas, and conveyor belt lifts for beginners. If this is the first time skiing with friends of varied ability or with a family this is probably the best ski resort to go to. It's huge and has a gondola that gets you to the next ski resort over. With it's huge size and variety of terrain it'll satisfy anyone. There is the Prince hotel which is literally at the bottom of the slopes so you have a close place to stay and the prices are a fraction of that in the USA. Single day lift ticket are under 7000 yen or less than $50 for a full Day ticket. Check around as you can get discounts or they have a 5-hour ski pass for 5000 yen. Naeba it's also great to spend several days at as it's so big you cannot ski the entire resort within a single day. It'll take several.

It's a very beginner friendly ski resort, lots of green line with different difficulty, and easy to difficult blue line to practice advance. Dragondola has a pretty view and different style course in Toshiro ski resort. You can get different level of restaurant cross all building. It's also easy to get from public transportation. Recommend for all the beginners especially for the first time skier/snowboarder. For middle/advance player you can choose others like Kagura ski resort.

I like this place for the reason that it has all the planes and altitudes we need for fun with snow. From beginners to advance players can have fun at this resort be it ski or snowboarding. Even we have plenty places to have fun for childrens. There are good enough food restaurants available there to quench your hunger. Rental gears are easily available at the spot or from nearby places around there. Also, this place is accessible by bus 🚌 easily from Yuzawa station which is about 1 hour bus ride.

if you are here in a sunny day, you will see a great lake view up from the mountain top. and you enjoy this view intermittently down the course. the snow here is the best i have very seen in Japan. but this is not for beginners. this snowresort is wild, which i mean, you don't always find there is a course. the whole mountain is your course. so sometimes you might get lost and can find your way. but if you are not a rookie, this will be your paradize. the only thing is that you dont find many restaurants and bars in this area. you also dont find many people here. vast place with few people. this is for hardcore players.

Beautiful mountain with a view of a beautiful lake next to the slope. Doesn’t have very good snow till end of Dec but I would very recommend this slope for anytime after Jan. not too far from Tokyo so that’s a plus as well.

Tashiro is one of three areas at Kagura. Mostly wide open easy slopes. It takes a little time getting across to the Kagura and Mitsumata areas because you keep going more across the mountain rather than up (you'd need to be at least taking 5 lifts). Due to its higher altitude, Kagura has one of the longest season in Japan (Nov-May) and there was still plenty of snow late (photos taken 30 Mar) and not too slushy, whereas at Naeba next door there wasn't much white stuff left. There are two restaurants both not huge (they're packed during lunch hours), with other options over at Kagura or Mitsumata area. Strangely the restaurants offer no view of the lake despite both of them being right next to it! Instead go up lift Y for a spectacular view of the lake.

Very large ski area that very high altitude offering superb snow conditions. Snow Scoots and Snow Moto’s welcome here on 100% of the lifts and slopes!

It's beautiful but if the small lift was too fast and I fell out on the lift. THANK that I wear a helmet and protection body but still hurt I got hit by a fast lift 3 times and my butt bruised so bad. Not going to that area again :(

Nice ski area well set up for beginners. Good quality snow. Ropeway is fast and efficient, around 7km. English signs are pretty rare but it didn't detect much from the resort. Connected to Naeba by a gondola or you can take a shuttle bus. Good place for families who are serious about their skiing.

First the most important chairlift breaks down, so we cannot make it back to Naeba with skis, then they shut down the Kagura Gondola too early. On the Website the operating hours are 3pm, as you can see in the photo, it was closed already 1440. Terrible experience.

Best resort I've visited on Honshu yet! Plenty of back country, both accessible from the lifts and via a hike. Good rental options. Plenty of pistes for beginners. Good parks by Japanese standards. Don't bother with Gala or Naeba which are both more crowded and are lower altitude so have worse snow.

Excellent resort. Piste and off-piste skiing, access to Backcountry gates, and a variety of high speed chairs, gondolas, and tram. The snow here seems more prevalent than other resorts in the area. The mid-station serves up some delicious food at well.

Nice beginner/intermediate areas. A lot of trails with beautiful views of the landscape. The infrastructure is a bit less compared to more famous areas & the wait times at the ski lifts are pretty long. But the beauty of the trails make up for it. Changing area is very small, limited food options. Closes at 4:30. Buses are frequent and multiple buses come at each specified time.

I've snowboarded here many times and the service is always speedy and polite and the access is great. The courses are very long and wide so it never feels crowded even at the ski lifts. There're two types of buses that leave from Echigo Yuzawa: local and rapid so make sure you check the times.

15 mins away by bus ¥380 adult ¥100 for ski bag or large baggage from Echigoyuzawa train station to mitsumata ropeway. It is very big ski resort powder is Kagura very true. But the top lifts close at 14:00 other lifts from kagura area close at 15:30. Other lifts near the base close at 16:15

That’s such an amazing time skiing here last year in. February. We had two days from really really nice weather and great snow with the powder. We were travelling from Canada, I wish that we could be back there right now but Covid has made other plans for you. Please enjoy some photos

Good ski resort for the long covered snow escalator. However getting to and from the slopes is difficult due to oversubscribed buses from Echigo Yuzawa station. We had to wait for an hour each way. Only recommended for absolute first timers requiring the snow escalator.

Had wonderful experience at Yuzawa Nakazato snow. It was our first time experiencing snow and ski, so my children were excited too. We took ski class for 2 hours, most important is the place not too crowded so we can practice skiing well. The price was reasonable too, value for money.

I’ve done snowboarding in some few places in Japan since I’ve started it here but this is one of the nice place and mostly for beginners to intermediate friendly. We went with our lab members and most of them were beginner. But everyone learned how to ski or snowboarding. I’ll recommend you if you’re a beginner or wanna learn. It was actually hot 🥵 though it was snow.

It is great venue to learn or mastered your snowboarding or skiing skills. 1. Have convinience store 2. Have food court 3. Have public toilet 4. Parking lot are big 5. There is rental board 6. Area smoking available 7. Best view both at the bottom or the top 8. Have parking for disability people 9. Accesible by private car or public transportation like Train 10. have many track that suit well from beginner to expert snowboarder.

Not so crowded so very relaxed when skiing. Suitable for both amateur and professional skiers.

The slopes offer variety from beginner to expert level, although it can be a bit crowded on the weekends and holidays. Overall, a good place to visit with your mates.

Hiked Mt. Tanigawa (1977m) and was rewarded with stunning alpine scenery. The trail was rich with summer flowers, busy bees, and colorful butterflies. Though the weather was partly cloudy, the views of the surrounding green mountains were breathtaking. The ropeway ride offered a relaxing start, and the fresh mountain air made the climb refreshing. A beautiful destination for both nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts.

I climbed through Nishiguro ridge. the wind was strong and I can't see the trail path because of the clouds. I almost died. never forget that experience

The location is very good; near the station and bus stop to Gala is right infront of the hotel. The staff is very helpful even thought their English is not the best but they use google translate and tried their best.

Great location. Walkable from the train station even with luggages. Onsen on the ground floor is good sized. The other one, which is open-air, is much smaller. I felt that the temperature were too high for me in both onsens. Breakfast and dinner were good. Services were also good. You can feel that the hotel is a bit dated but well-maintained. There is 7-11 just across the street from the hotel.

The location is excellent, as it only took 5 minutes to get there from the train station. However, the cleanliness could be significantly improved. The table was covered in dust, and the doors of the wardrobe were dirty.

We had a great stay in our Japanese style room at this ryokan. The location is amazing. The staff go out of their way to help and are extremely friendly. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay near Echigo Yuzawa.

Very convenient location. Probably the best outdoor onsen we have been to. Good facilities and amenities. The lobbay area looks lovely in winter. They make guests feel well provided for. They have an instant hot water dispenser in our room, air purifier, clips and hair bands for ladies, hangers and disinfectant spray for coats, welcome japanese sweets, tea set, kimono, extra towels, etc.

Had a room with own onzen, open the window the snow will come in. The room is very big but not so new, food soso. 5 mins walk from station.

Best Ryokan ever. Breakfast and dinner are exceptional. Outdoor onsen is so relaxing. Good decorations in every corner. The hotel pays attention in small details.

The perfect hotel right near the station. Comfortable rooms, friendly service, great food, and a convenient location footsteps from the train station. Very accommodating to our English speaking group with a 2 year old. They have a play room for kids on the first floor. The beds were comfortable and the private onsen (tattoo friendly!) was so relaxing. Our group opted for the breakfast add on and the food was delicious.

This place is beautiful. Amazing traditional japanese rooms, with a very helpful staff. Loved the stay here. It is a 10 min walk from the station so in the snow it is not very fun, but that was the only down side. They keep a portion of the walkway normally clear. Would stay here again!

Bathroom in room was dated but we used onsen to shower anyways so not a huge deal. The room itself was huge. We had dinner and breakfast and both were pretty good. Not the best but I would give it a solid 7.5 / 10. It’s an older hotel but it was kept spotless. Staff was friendly and best part of the hotel was the drying room for those who ski / snowboarded. The hotel has fewer rooms so it feels a lot more tranquil and the onsen was never packed. Few times I even had the whole place to myself. Overall this is a fantastic option for Yuzawa. Definitely would consider staying again next time.

We traveled half way around the world from the States for our vacation to stay at this facility. I think the best and only great thing about this place is its location, as the facility seems dated and the room we stayed in smell like the previous guest smoked in the room. We informed the staff of this and was told that it is not smoke and was suggested that it may be perfume. Unfortunately, instead of being provided the option of moving to a different room, the only solution they provided was to spray a Febreze like product to try and cover the smokey scent. We end up opening the window during the whole time of our stay. I had high expectation for this place because of the high reviews, but I would definitely not stay here again. I am certain not all rooms smell like this, we just got unlucky, and unfortunately the staff does not seem like they want to resolve this issue.

Nice onsen with English speaking staff only a five minute walk from Yuzawa station. Room is big but the bed is a little hard for my liking. Got the option to dine inside the inn for breakfast and dinner and the food is pretty basic but good.

First 30 people of the day gets the special offer, 1000 yen for a sashimi rice bowl. Really crazy deal because their food quality is very good! Highly recommended!

This is 3 mins walk away from Echigo-Yuzawa station. They offer set lunches at 900 yen but limited to 30 sets each day. I opted for the 1300 yen (before tax) nigiri sushi with soba and it was delicious, especially for a cold rainy day. The fish was fresh but the vinegared rice broke off for some pieces. Soba was excellent.

Amazing value - huge chirashi bowl with a good variety of fresh cuts for 1500 jpy. Tried other dishes like tsukune and grilled unagi, which were also really good. Highly recommend!

The restaurant was right outside the hotel we stayed and very near the Yuzawa station. Went to the restaurant twice throughout our stay cause food was good. Seems to be popular among the locals. Quite limited tables available, but the kaisen Don and sushi are good. Soba we find just normal. But overall experience was great. Staff speak very limited English but English menu is made available.

Very near Tokyo via Shinkansen and lots of snow during our visit in January. You need to stay here for 2 to 3 days in order to fully appreciate the place. Tasting authentic Japanese food is on the pricey side but the taste is worth it.

They have a English menu even though the staff didn't speak English. Service was great anyway. We had the set meal with marble Japanese beef which you cook your own meat and veggies on a piece of heated stone. Delicious!

We didn't book in advance but were lucky to get the table. It's not cheap but the food is nice. They don't have English menu so you'll have to rely on Google Translate if you don't know Japanese.

One of the best restaurants around, quite crowded. Best to be early. Price on slightly higher but sashimi was very fresh. Food and service was really good. Chef will assist in selection of wine, sake,etc if you needed assistance.

A total gem of a place. The owners speak some English but they are very welcoming. The food was amazing and the price is very reasonable. We had fresh sashimi, sukiyaki and the lot. Special call out to the salted baked chicken, such a simple dish but so delish. Do make reservation as they get filled up.

It's rare to find a restaurant where everything is just right—that's why I was so happy to find Taruppe. The food is fresh and carefully prepared, the subtle jazz music really fits the atmosphere and the service is warm and friendly! I asked which soy-sauce they used, because it was so delicious, and was gifted a bottle to bring home! Nothing but love for Taruppe, will be definitely be back.

Probably my favorite restaurant I've eaten for as long as I've lived in Japan. The blue-fin tuna sashimi was incredible. The service was above-and-beyond. I felt like I was part of a new little family having dinner. If I were in town longer, I would go back again. I recommend to anyone who likes sushi, or good food, or being happy for that matter.

During summer the entrance is framed with vegetable plants, food is fresh and very delicious, traditional Japanese cuisine, a must in Niigata.

I often go here when snowboarding in snow season. Located in the middle of the mountain and they have nice Japanese style lunch set for about 10 to 15USD self service. Seems to be a mountain hut has rooms for climbers to stay although the room may not be fancy.

Middle of the mountain. Busy here at lunch time, Food are tasty! With traditional dinning table you have to take off your ski boot or snowboard boot to dine.

Coolest looking lodge I've been in. Shame the food was mediocre. Nice details like drying cabinet and backpack room. Would love to stay here which is possible in the dormitory.
