Roadside Station Takuminosato is a charming resort village offering a variety of traditional Japanese cultural crafts and workshops. Visitors can engage in activities such as making washi paper, weaving bamboo, and creating soba noodles from scratch at the rustic craft shops run by local artists. The area also features several orchards and strawberry farms for fruit picking experiences.
Great place to stop and get some kakikore (shaved ice), super fresh local vegetables and something to eat. Walk around the area. Nice thing. It's a really interesting essential oils factory shop. Also, lots of really Japanese restaurants, omiyage stores and ramen shops. Beautiful place. Don't forget to get a photo with the dinosaur made with the rice stems!

Very cute little street lined with small flowery canals. The design of the street is very uncommon and unlikely in Japan: the street is large, and there are no electric wires to be seen around. People living in the neighborhood are very careful about the environment and it shows.

Nestled in the scenic landscape of Gunma Prefecture, the Nagurumi Castle Ruins offer a fascinating glimpse into Japan's feudal past. Originally constructed in 1579 by Lord Sanada Masayuki at the confluence of the Tone and Akaya Rivers, this historic site played a pivotal role during a siege in the 1500s.
(Translated by Google) I quite like visiting castles and have seen a lot of them, but I was so excited to see a castle ruin without a castle tower! It was probably a top-class castle ruin for me. There is also an exhibition room attached, so I wish I had visited with a little more time. The cherry blossoms were also in full bloom and I was very satisfied. Lovely place with a ton of made-by-glass things along the streets. Recommend to visit the glass museum and a day tour/work shop to make glass by yourself. Eventhough, the price of products is quite expensive, it worths for buying some small souvenirs

Norn Minakami is a versatile destination offering wide, tree-lined trails for skiing and snowboarding in the winter, as well as spring narcissus blooms and summer camping opportunities. In the summer, the ski resort transforms into a stylish RV park with glamping options in furnished dome tents and deck barbecues. Guests can enjoy activities such as canoeing, stand-up paddling, rafting, canyoning, hiking up Mt.
Not too crowded and easy access by train and shuttle bus from Tokyo station. Need to reserve a shuttle bus seat though ahead of time

Relatively small local ski resort in Minakami. It’s very humble overall, but they have pretty much everything you’d need from a ski resort. The courses are pretty straightforward and relatively towards experts level. There is not much variety there, compared to other well known places. While the courses are small, they have pretty big food courts and cafes. There are also souvenir/gear shops. Rentals and schools are available. There is a shuttle bus from Minakami station.

A very nice ski resort located in 2 hours derive from Tokyo. Pretty cool courses including for both beginners and pro ski and snowboard lovers! Not so far from the toll road and easy access. Several car parking lots located at a walk distance and isolated as well. All isolated parking lots providing a free shuttle bus. Better to go there as early as possible to avoid shuttle bus in order to have an easy and quick access from the closes parking. Very comfortable facility includes wide eating area and several restaurants inside and outside the building. Rental shops could allow you to get and ride at the same day all you need including wears and ski or boards. For those with kids, there is kids school facility with a very kids friendly instructors. Will allow you to get your kids attended to school and enjoy your free time for adult riding. Nice weather, good mood and friendly staff are always there! Recommended very much!

It’s basically a ski resort but we visited during spring. so my review is based on spring time view and facilities of this place. View is absolutely stunning during daffodil festival and facilities are ok. The only thing that bothers me is the long queue in ground floor restaurant, may be for golden week’s rush but they can manage it easily if they had enough stuffs. only two elderly person tried their best.

It’s a great ski resort which is 2hr drive from Tokyo. They also have shuttle bus service from Minakami station. Advance course is nice 👍🏼 Resort rental options costs are 4500¥ for ski/snowboard, 4500¥ lifts on weekends.

We love the snowpark soo much! It has tubing, snow cycle, sledge for kids and adult. The price is 2000yen for a person for all activities. You can rent shoes too for 1000yen. The park worker also provide a treasure hunt activity so it was so much fun for the kids. We never find any other prk as interesting as this for our kids. The staff are friendly too. We love it soo much will definitwly come again! They open at 9 and close at 16:00

Soba noodle shop
そば処 角彌(かどや) is a popular spot known for its quick service, generous portions, and delicious yet affordable food. The soba servings are notably larger than those at other establishments. In addition to the usual tsuyu dashi soba dipping sauce, they offer various broths such as duck, maitake soup or curry.
Amazing and 100% worth pulling in for a meal! The staff were so patient and helpful. The food was so yummy and the price was on point. Do yourself a favour and drop in.

Fantastic soba, probably one of the best - if not THE best - I’ve had so far. The portions were huge and we even got a couple of gift items to try. We had the soba with duck soup, tempura maitake and shiitake, and everything was absolutely wonderful. The staff were very attentive bot not overbearing, and the atmosphere felt inviting and cozy. If I’m in the area again, I will definitely come back.

Fantastic soba place famous for its taste and very big portions for groups ! You can obviously go from 1 person but I do recommend you to reserve as it gets crowded very fast ! Very good tempura (especially the shrimp is very fresh )! The soba tea is also very good !

so good but beware of portion size! they allow you to order per serve Less than actual PAX.
Tatsapoom U — Google review
Good quality and quantity!! Very satisfied. Since soba is quite much, You can order soba only -1 person less. (3 person can eat enough with soba for 2 person). And half size Tempura is also quite much.

Don’t go - unless you’re opening the restaurant with owner. The place has sold out 2 hours before closing time. On top of that is way far from everything with no nearby restaurant or stop. Once you go there if you are not lucky and is sold out you will have to go back :)

Nestled in the heart of Gunma, Tanigawadake Tenjindaira is a high-altitude ski haven that promises an unforgettable experience for snow enthusiasts. Renowned for its exceptional powder snow and breathtaking views of Mount Tanigawa, this hidden gem offers a variety of terrains perfect for both backcountry skiing and adventurous hikes during the off-season.
This place is cool! Between the ropeway and the excellent high up terrain and the super long run to take you back down to the base. The people that work here are very friendly and exceptionally helpful. I unfortunately got myself stuck at this resort because I drove my camper van on the road past the ropeway station. I thought it was the road to the upper parking lot and I was very wrong. I ended up on an ice covered road with zero traction. I had to get chains for my awd camper with six snow tires. The road was so ice covered that the bulldozer that plows it lost control on the way down and almost crushed my van. See the picture with the snow piled up in front of the van. That's how close it came to crushing the van. No damage done but it took me a long while to dig out. Thankfully, I was able to get chains delivered to the resort via Amazon with help from the resort workers. This is obviously on me as I drove the van. But in my defense I watched numerous cars try this same road because it looks like a plowed road. One was a convertible that had to get dragged out by JAF. There is no signage to indicate this road is actually a closed summer only road and is plowed so well in the beginning it looks like that isn't the case. The resort would be doing it's guests a huge courtesy to mark the road closed in some way. I ended up spending 2 nights and 3 days stuck. Granted it was a peaceful place to be overnight. Also be careful here because they actually close the entire resort to the public two days a week. Which was a total bummer because the morning I got the van out was an amazing bluebird day with tons of fresh snow the public could not access. The 9000 yen price for a lift is really really high. It's more than Lotte Arai.

Fantastic place to visit in the winter. Weather you love ski or just to observe snow covered mountains, this is a perfect place
Tina N — Google review
Formerly known as Tanigawadake Tenjindaira, the ski resort was renamed and rebranded as Mt.T after Hoshino Resorts took over the place. The lift price is one of the highest on mainland Japan, about 9000 JPY for one day for the winter season 24/25. It was less than 5000 JPY in the past. Ski Resort Layout: The ski resort is served by a main gondola from the base to the top and a couple of chairlifts to the upper slopes of varying degrees of difficulty. There is one very long run down to the base that ends at the road leading up to the gondola. Much of the appeal of Mt. T is its side country within the resort and backcountry to the top. Snow: The resort is known for its heavy amount of snowfall it receives and stashes of powder snow could be found in both sidecountry and backcountry terrain. On days with heavy snowfall, expect the chairlifts or even the gondola to be closed due to avalanche risks. Faciltiies: There isn't much facilities around for a Hoshino resort or in comparison to other resorts in the area. There is a day lodge area with an eatery and a base area with a shop and rest area with rental services. That's about it. The resort does try to carry out seasonal campaigns such as snow play or have special gondola cars with dining in it. The resort is popular among people looking for backcountry terrain as well as hikers even in winter. The Hoshino branding also draws more tourists to the resort. However, it is still relatively uncrowded, partly because of the lift prices, compared to Gala Yuzawa or Kandatsu on a holiday or weekend. The resort can be fun place to visit after a fresh snow day with good weather and the view of Tanigawadake is quite impressive. It is also a different creature from the other ski resorts in the area which makes it a nice change of environment.
Lee L — Google review
This mountain is great for a hike and easily accessible via a large gondola. The hiking path is well-marked and maintained, attracting plenty of hikers. However, the trail is quite challenging, often requiring near-climbing efforts. Near the gondola, there's a pleasant area with a very slow lift. Both the gondola and lift operate at a very slow speed, which might be a safety concern.
Zimmj Z — Google review
It’s easy riding the Ropeway and the Lift to get to the top of Tenjin Daira, even after the snow melt in April and probably summer and the fall, until the Snow Ground restart in winter again!!
Yumiko S — Google review
Visited in the middle of September, 2018. It was cold up there! Even raining slightly although the weather forecast said sunny all day. Cost around US$20 two ways, so not so cheap. Parking costs $5 but in the secure building where you buy tickets and find shops, cafes, restaurants and rest rooms. Be prepared for the inclement weather if you stay outside for 10 mins. For hikers and climbers, there are coin lockers, toilets, restaurants, even rooms for change clothing near the rope way station up there. Note that under severe conditions even in May or September, sometimes fatal accident happens every single year here. Listen local guides carefully and read blogs/guidelines by experienced Japanese climber or so.

On one hand, it is beautiful nature, But on the other, it is a hard and unsafe climb in which you can easily slip off the path with no sagety bars as protection. When it is rainy and windy, that is even more dangerous

I came here on 10/21/23 to take photo of mountain Koyo. Because is not clear blue sky day I was lucky to see rainbow. The experience of sitting at cable car alone with colourful autumn leaves around was absolutely amazing !! Then rainbow did a magic touch to the whole landscape !! You can buy set ticket to go up to the top cost 3500yen including cable car and a lift . I was advice not to take lift since it is raining . At the 1319m top I saw many hikers , they told me 4 hours to hike to the top. My ticket cost 2000yen round trip . I should come back in summer to do the hike . If you like colourful autumn leaves 🍁 it is highly recommended. Only 2 hours from tokyo station, easy to do a day trip .

Essentially the ropeway bought and operated by Hoshino Resorts. Everything was fine but there’s no “wow effect” that we’re accustomed to with Hoshino group experiences, basically just a mountain ropeway with a few not so well maintained trails at the summit. Great to escape the tokyo heat though !

Nestled near the historic Meguri Castle along Route 17, 和風レストラン しんりん is a delightful culinary stop that offers an extensive menu sure to please any palate. From comforting bowls of udon and soba to enticing set meals, this restaurant stands out for its family-friendly children's menu—a rarity in the area. Diners can indulge in crispy tempura udon or savor today's special, tomato garlic chicken cutlet, which boasts tender meat and a satisfying crunch.
This is one of the best rest point on the way to Yatru. They have assortment meat from eel, pork, sashimi etc. Yes, I will be back if I ever pass by this place again.

The place reminded me of Japanese version of an American diner. But it’s your standard teishoku place with soba and udon. Got the cold and warm soba. The tempura were plentiful and soba was decent. Not much places around this area so this place would be your best bet for a quick and tasty lunch/dinner!

Local delicacy served by u-turner
NP J — Google review
(Translated by Google) Visited on Wednesday 12:10 in mid-December 2024. Several customers were already eating. It was cold, so I saw quite a few people ordering pot-fried noodles. For weekday lunches, there are more than 10 types of set meals and noodles, so I thought it would be a good lunch for several people with different tastes. I ordered the Waraji cutlet sauce cutlet bowl. What's nice is that you can add a small side of soba or udon for 128 yen. The main dish is rice, but it's good if you want some noodles and soup. There were two large pieces of cutlet on top and it was very filling. Also, the sauce is not applied to the cutlet, and it is served on a separate plate, so you can enjoy a crispy cutlet. Please note that there are no seasonings on the table and they will not be provided unless you ask. I asked for mustard for the cutlet, shichimi for the soba, and soy sauce. If you ask, a kind lady will bring it to you right away. After some heartless people did unsanitary things at sushi restaurants and gyudon restaurants and uploaded them on YouTube, I wondered if they took safety measures like this. I was usually full.

I looked into a few restaurants, but decided to visit this one because it had a children's menu, which is rare for this area. I ordered tempura udon and today's recommendation, tomato garlic chicken cutlet. The chicken cutlet was crispy and the meat was tender, and very delicious. I found a great restaurant. The tempura was also delicious. The udon was chewy and satisfying. In addition to the box seats, they also have private tatami rooms for families, making it easy to use. I'd like to visit this restaurant again next time I'm in the Minakami area. For now, I had a large bowl of tempura soba and a mini tuna bowl! Soba is an easy-to-eat type, and the quantity and taste are satisfying♪ The tempura has a thin coating and is easy to eat, and there are many kinds of tempura that are very filling. Although the tuna bowl is mini, there is quite a lot of rice, so you will be full (lol) It said it was tuna, but the part looked like medium fatty tuna, so the 700 yen price was reasonable! ! There were many other menu items that I was interested in, so I thought it would be a waste to try it just once! ! The delivery time was pretty quick, the staff was friendly, and the prices were low, so it was a restaurant I'd want to visit if it was nearby. I ordered the mixed fry set meal for lunch (1,100 yen including tax) and the tempura soba (1,250 yen including tax). Both were filling and delicious. The tempura in particular was superb, with a thin, crispy batter and a moist, juicy interior! There aren't many good restaurants in the area, so I highly recommend it! Nestled along the scenic Mikuni Kaido, Yamaichiya is a charming soba restaurant that has been delighting visitors since its establishment in 1945. Known for its exquisite wild soba and unique dishes like miso cutlet, this long-standing eatery offers a delightful culinary experience. The highlight here is the Nobotoke soba, featuring four different ingredients that create a medley of flavors with each bite of its chewy noodles.

Japanese inn
Hotel
Japanese regional restaurant
Keisetsu no Yado Syoubun is an affordable Japanese inn with simple rooms and a casual atmosphere. It offers a restaurant as well as a bathhouse that utilizes natural hot spring water. The onsen provides a serene and cozy experience, while the cuisine highlights local flavors, particularly grilled fish. Even during winter, the journey to the onsen is not difficult. Overall, this inn offers value for money without compromising on relaxation and traditional Japanese hospitality.
Really nice Ryokan in an awesome location. We booked a room with a private onsen but also took advantage of one of the other baths that's available to all the other rooms (these baths are still used one at a time). Both baths were relaxing and beautiful in the snow. Dinner and breakfast were both amazing with courses that seemed to just keep coming. We don't speak Japanese but were still able to generally communicate with our hosts, and only had to use Google translate once or twice. The hotel was also able to help us confirm our travel arrangements and even reserved us a taxi to take us back to the train station as we needed to arrive before their shuttle would normally run. We did take the shuttle from Minakami station to Syoubun and it was there right on time. There looks to be good skiing right next door to the inn and I wouldn't hesitate to come back and hit the slopes followed up by a nice warm relaxing bath.

Love this Quiet ryokan . Good that we rented a car so it is accessible . We had many scenic drives around the area. Generous food portions . We chose a room with own private bath .

Full disclosure; I'm a Ryokan newbie so treat these comments with a grain of salt. This is one of the best stays I've ever had. It is a very small Ryokan with only 9 rooms. We booked a room with a private onsen and it was an amazing experience. The room was very large, the size of a one bedroom apartment and exceptionally clean. The onsen was wooden lined and on the open air, covered balcony that proved very convenient and therapeutic to use just before bedtime. The staff were very thoughtful, courteous and detail oriented. Our room included breakfast and dinner. Each meal was worthy of a separate review of their own. The only slight negative is its location off the main road and not within walking distance to some of the conveniences found within onsen towns. A car would be a must have. With that said, if you are looking for a quality lodging and dining experience, I would highly recommend this establishment.

We stayed here for our honeymoon, and we couldn't have chosen a better ryokan. We booked a room with an open-air private bath. The room was very spacious. The outdoor bath area was private, yet not cramped. Service was phenomenal, despite the staff not speaking much English. Above all, we loved the food: everything was fresh, interesting, delicious and beautifully plated. What's more, they offer complimentary snacks, like popsicles, and beverages, including sparkling wine and sake, in a shared space. I highly recommend Syoubun to anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, relax and be pampered.

Loved it! Great for our honeymoon! Even though the staff doesn't speak much English, they made an effort to translate and make us feel at home. The fine cuisine was amazing! There were also popsicles
Mathieu L — Google review
Good experience. I got the room with open-air bath with two beds but we prefer futons(Japanese style bed) instead. The room here quite big compared to normal Japanese inn room in Japan. They have parking just right in the front but need to be careful ,you might drive pass it very easily since it is no sign in English at all. Anyway we made it there. All the staffs are friendly. They could speak a little bit of English but good enough for simple communication. Only wish the food could be better. And they served dinner at the private room downstairs, no in room diner. For breakfast is more into family style nor buffet or Kaiseiki set. Food is mountain cuisine so you can expect mushrooms and wild boar. Check out at 10-11 am.
Naree S — Google review

such a special place, loved every second of our stay here. the staff is professional, friendly, proactively helpful - just the best! our room had a private outdoor bath which was amazing. the tatami floor in both the sleeping and the living area/room were in perfect condition. futon beds were comfy and warming. everything here was so spacious which allowed us to fully relax and enjoy ourselves. the food is so so so good! they use local and seasonal ingredients: mushrooms out of the local woods, fish from the river, marrons from the garden and so on. the quality of every ingredient made the dishes so special for us. also we tried so many things here we never had before! shoubun really is full of thoughtful small details - the most perfect ryokan experience. you can surely create beautiful memories here. thank you so much :)

Nestled in the serene mountains, Sobadokoro Hinoki offers a delightful escape from the bustling Minakami Onsen. Surrounded by picturesque streams and steep hills, this charming soba restaurant embodies the tranquility of rural Japan. Even though it opens at 11:30 AM, you might find yourself waiting a bit longer as they take their time to prepare each dish with care.
Delicious soba and tempura in a friendly atmosphere. Ideal for ending a weekend in the mountains 😋

The soba was excellent and the tempura divine. The tsuyu sauce was somewhat lacking. The room itself is quaint and country, right on the side of a stream that's a fun wade in the summer. But the service is very, very slow. Expect a 30 minute wait or more whether it is busy or not. Otherwise a good meal.

(Translated by Google) ``Soba Restaurant Hinoki'' is located in the mountains, which is completely unimaginable from the hustle and bustle of Minakami Onsen, and is surrounded by streams, fields, and steep mountains. Perhaps because of the location, they were leisurely preparing even after the scheduled opening time of 11:30, and I was like, ``Huh? When are they going to open?'' I guess that's the kind of respect you get from being in the countryside... The main soba is usually delicious. I chose it with maitake mushroom tempura, but there was plenty of seasonal vegetables mixed in as well. Locally grown Maitake mushrooms are thick and delicious. There is also ``soba gaki'', which has a slightly sticky appearance and feels very freshly made. Tambara Lavender Park

Botanical garden
Tambara Lavender Park is a hillside park that boasts over 50,000 lavender shrubs in full bloom from mid-July to mid-August. The park also features a variety of other flowers like sunflowers and hydrangeas, offering visitors a colorful floral display. During winter, the area transforms into a beginners' ski slope. Additionally, the park offers aerial views through a chair lift and is located about 20km from the Numata IC exit.
Our visit to Tambara Lavender Park on August 2 was such a refreshing summer experience! 🌿💜 We took the free shuttle from Numata Station, which made the trip super convenient and stress-free. Upon arrival, we were happy to use the 50% off admission coupon, making the visit even better. We rode the lift going up to the lavender fields, and the view was absolutely beautiful — you can see the mountains, trees, and the soft purple lavender from above. It felt calm and relaxing, like a mini escape from the city. 🚡✨ Even in early August, the lavender was still in bloom, filling the air with a soft fragrance. Walking through the fields was peaceful, and we enjoyed taking lots of photos at the scenic spots. Of course, we didn’t miss the lavender ice cream — subtly floral and perfect for a summer treat! 🍦🪻

Jack the Tart Fantasy is a charming cheese tart shop located in Minakami, along National Route 291. The shop offers a delightful selection of natural-style cheese tarts made with seasonal ingredients. Guests can savor these delectable treats on the outdoor terrace while enjoying beverages such as coffee made with spring water from Mt Tanigawa. The shop's lovely decor and French-inspired theme add to the overall experience.
Fun and delicious! Great tart shop with brilliant branding, check the website out! The cheese tarts are delicious, we tried the apple, mango and chocolate along with coffees and sat on the deck enjoying the weather. If you have time follow the path to the bridge over river, it’s a fun spot to watch the bunny jumping and rafting.

Staff was friendly, the place is whimsical & the cheese tart was amazing! They said chocolate is also number 1 best seller but personally I like the cheese tart more, the chocolate is more like a Nama chocolate tasting inside. It’s okay but if you’re used to dark chocolate/ European chocolate desserts you’ll be disappointed. There’s also a castella cake shop next to it that they also own - they were really good and they gave out samples too!

You can enjoy the baked cheese tart which became famous in Hokkaido in the Minakami Hot Spa area, after taking a walk along the upper-stream Tone River before snow peaked Mt. Tanigawa! They sell coffee and other fruit juice as well but low-priced probably because the eat-in area is only on the terrace.

The incredible branding brought us in, the tarts will keep us stopping by. Did we (me and my cat) need 6 cheese tarts? Probably not. But how could we not??!!

These were AMAZING! We tried 4 and enjoyed them all. Wanted to try all they got to offer. Everything looks amazing. It's definitely a must try if you're around.

Loved this cute shop at Minakami. The decor is lovely with a slight French theme. The tarts are to die for. They look beautiful taste delicious with at leat 10 flavours and they are reasonably priced. Sit on the balcony and enjoy the tarts with a drink or buy and takeaway. Definitely a favourite that I'll visit when I'm in Minakami again.

Nestled in the picturesque Minakami Town of Gunma Prefecture, Okutone Snow Park is a charming ski resort that caters to winter sports enthusiasts of all skill levels. With its impressive 4,000-meter slope and a vertical drop of 600 meters, this destination features ten diverse courses ranging from beginner-friendly to advanced challenges. The resort is easily accessible via roads designed to keep snow at bay, making your journey from the Minakami Interchange smooth and hassle-free.
good for beginners too. this year so many snow. we had lots of fun there
Salinda S — Google review
Even though it snowed about 20 cm the day before, there were patches of ice and packed snow. The powder areas have huge potholes due to low skill snowboarders. The lifts are quite slow but they don’t have lines. The tickets were quite cheap, especially if you have children under 11 years old.

Great ski park!
Ray T — Google review
I am beginner in snowboarding and they advertised on their website that they have school - it was written in English so I assumed they have English speaking instructors, bit they didn't. Apart from that it was great. There are different slopes and different difficulties. There is no slope for beginners but if you are careful enough you can try blue slope. Difficulties are marked with colors-Blue, Yellow, Red and Black. Blue is the easiest , black is the hardest one. Have fun! I did 😊
Chokon C — Google review
Okutone is quite a small resort but good fun none the less. The first lift takes you up to about the half way point. There is a restaurant there and another lift higher up. The runs are reasonably steep and there are usually some good jumps around too. Not too much terrain for beginners but there is a long track that leads from the top of the first lift down to the bottom of the resort.
Rufus S — Google review
When the bottom slope is closed, which is most of the time, you have to take the skilift down. However the exit is not designed for that, so you need to run for your life when you get off, to avoid getting crushed. It almost broke my leg. The staff didn't even bother to stop or slow down the lift.

For a more relaxed experience, the mountains ropeway provides stunning views especially during snowy winters and peak fall foliage. Hiked Mt. Tanigawa (1977m) and was rewarded with stunning alpine scenery. The trail was rich with summer flowers, busy bees, and colorful butterflies. Though the weather was partly cloudy, the views of the surrounding green mountains were breathtaking. The ropeway ride offered a relaxing start, and the fresh mountain air made the climb refreshing. A beautiful destination for both nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts.

The Minakami Fruits Land Mogitore (formerly known as DoleLand) is a highly recommended destination in Gunma. This orchard offers a variety of seasonal fruit picking experiences, including cherries, grapes, and apples. It is conveniently located 30 minutes away by car or 45 minutes by local train and bus from Minakami station. For those traveling from Tokyo, it's easy to reach by dropping off at Gokan station and taking just one bus thereafter.
Orchard farm where you can opt for strawberry/grapes fruits picking, depending on season. There is also a souvenir shop and cafe/restaurant. You can also pay JPY 300 to feed the goats.
QF S — Google review
I had high hopes for a fun outing, but unfortunately, this place did not meet any expectations. The staff was unfriendly and unhelpful. Most of the strawberries were still green and small, not ripe or worth picking at all. When I raised my concerns with the staff, they were dismissive and even laughed at us, which was incredibly rude. It’s clear they don’t care about customer satisfaction. Overall, I would not recommend this farm to anyone. Not worth the time or money. Avoid this place !!!

Must-go place in Gunma. Various Seasonal fruits picking such as cherry, grapes, apples... 30 mins by car or 45 mins by local train + bus from Minakami station. If you depart from Tokyo, drop off at Gokan station and just take 1 bus. However, from bus stop to the farm, you have to across a high slope. Thus, you can consider either to walk or to catch a taxi. There are option for all-you-can-eat in 30 mins or picking an amount and then bringing back home. I would recommend the 2nd option. Besides, you can buy some fruits to eat there, have simple lunch and enjoy beautiful view
LINH — Google review
"Despite our efforts to confirm the closing time by calling multiple times, we were left stranded as nobody bothered to answer the phone. Making a long journey, we relied on the website's information stating closing time at 4 pm, only to arrive and be told that the strawberry hunting activity closed at 3:30 pm. It's disappointing how inaccurate information and unresponsive staff led to wasted time and a sour experience."

Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant
Restaurant
Suehiro is a delightful culinary gem that offers an impressive array of Japanese dishes, making it a must-visit for food enthusiasts. On my first visit, I indulged in the tempura soba and katsudon soba set, which featured seven types of crispy and delicious tempura. The soba noodles paired perfectly with the flavorful soup, and I appreciated the complimentary barley tea refill. To top off the meal, we were treated to refreshing shaved ice—what a lovely surprise!
Very good food for reasonable price. I recommend.

(Translated by Google) I went to Suehiro, a locally popular restaurant, to try Gunma's specialty, miso stewed udon. The exterior of the store is quaint, and the atmosphere is reminiscent of the Showa era. Thoughts on the food The miso stewed udon that came out looked gorgeous! The aroma of miso whets the appetite, and there are plenty of toppings. The most noteworthy thing is the chewy flat noodles! It's chewy and holds the miso soup well. The miso soup was rich but mellow, and the sweetness of the vegetables and fried mochi were a perfect accent. Adding a half-boiled egg to the soup makes it even more mellow. Atmosphere of the shop The interior of the restaurant has a warm Japanese atmosphere, and the table seats are comfortable. Since this is a winter-only menu, the handwritten sign on the wall caught my eye. It's a truly relaxing space where you can feel the local love. summary The texture of the flat noodles and the deep flavor of the miso will melt your heart. It's perfect for the cold season and will definitely warm you from the core. The toppings on the fried mochi are hearty and satisfying! This is a must-try dish for both locals and tourists alike. Got there at opening so no wait. Food was very good, nice selection of sauces. Worth a visit.
M L — Google review
Be aware that this is definitely not an English friendly place. Of course there is no reason why it should be, but you will need a Japanese reader and speaker with you. If you arrive at a busy time you will need to take a number. This is the first trick. The number machine is by the cash register and basically invisible when there are lines for the shop and the diner. It works with a web app but when we were there the number shown on the app was not related to the number on our ticket! You are going to wait for a very very long time. The place has always been popular and since it was on TV it is doubly so. Be prepared to wait well over an hour in a very small space being buffeted by people passing Do, is it worth it? No. The food quality is not up to the hype and it’s expensive, though you do get a lot on the plate. Once you do finally get to a table you are hurried through the order process. Not fun.

GALA Yuzawa Snow Resort is located in Niigata Prefecture, offering a variety of scenic trails for skiing and snowboarding. The resort has its own bullet train station, making it easily accessible from Tokyo Station. With 15 runs and nine lifts, it provides options for skiers of all levels. After a day on the slopes, visitors can relax in the spa area with an onsen and unisex swimming pool.
Went for a day trip from Tokyo during the start-of-spring public holiday. Quite a few trains were nearly complete but could reserve still a place a day in advance. Once at the last stop of Gala, all was very well organised. Bought ski pass in 5 minutes, despite a full train decending just upstairs from the train station. Then ordered online at a kiosk my skis and boots, paid with credit card. Highlighted expert skier but think that related to the settings of the ski bindings, not the skis itself - they were very basic Fischer skis, felt plastic with no stability of edges. Better check for advanced skis if available... Then able to book a cheap locker at another kiosk and drop all stuff and normal shoes. And then take the gondola up, ski sticks you take yourself at exit of top gondola. Very easy all in all! Over 3m of snow, there was a new dump the day before, excellent sun, everything open, the black slopes were not groomed. Very nice for a day!!
Peter C — Google review
This snow/ski resort, is accessible for everyone even you are not doing ski. The ticket price for gondola, not too pricey. But, if you only want to play snow, maybe this is not for you. In fact, you can play snow outside the door near the rental area, with barely no one there. (No need to ride the gondola). There were too many people, and it can be dangerous if you are not aware of the ski-people. Even the parking space was full, and we need to find ourselves a parking spot, 15 minutes walking from the entrance. But still, there are many things to do other than skiing that you can choose. We were so lucky to have a snowfalls! But still, it was a good experience for all of us, especially me, who loves Japan the most.
DIYANA R — Google review
A very ideal ski resort that is accessible via Tokyo. If you are looking for a nearby ski experience near Tokyo, this is the place. Can get very crowded on some parts but there are also some places here that are not crowded. All in all a good place and would recommend.

If you’re around Tokyo, if you can squeeze it in on your itinerary, please do. This is an amazing place! Winter Wonderland indeed. We went there around February this year. Be prepared with winter clothes. There are rental gears inside, but you can also bring your own. 🤍

Great ski/snowboard resort for beginners to intermediates. Access from Tokyo’s amazing (walk right off the Shinkansen to the resort, pick up your rental gear, then walk to life and go!) Views are beautiful and slopes are not so crowded on weekdays. Try to cafe which is on the edge of the slopes and is a great spot to take a break.

Lots of fun with family. Rent 2 sledges for a family. We spend 3-4 hours over here. If you wanna play snow. You better rent weather proof suit and rubber boots. Train from Ueno to Gala YUZAWA is convenient and easy. Trip start 8am it takes only 1 hr to arrive at Gala YUZAWA. Buy ticket and equipment rental take around 20-30 mins. Gondola will take around 10-12 mins to get the ski mountain. It’s a good place to visit even though you don’t ski. My kid really like to play here.
Vorapoj T — Google review
We had a good experience at Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort. As soon as we arrived at the station, there were people guiding tourists were to buy tickets. On the same floor, there are counters where you get your gondola and lift tickets. If you won’t be skiing, like us, you just need a gondola ticket and you will be able to go up and down as many times as you want during the day. The ride takes just a few minutes. We had big bag packs and left them at the station because it’s the only place where they have big lockers. We rented moon bikes at the top, they give you a helmet with a camera. When the activity ends, they give you a QR code so you can download your video.
Diosemil S — Google review
GALA is easily accessible via shuttle from Echigo Yuzawa Station at Platform 5 (take the orange line). If you are not a local, don't worry because everything would be available in various languages as well. For example, if you are there to rent anything, forget the fear of being unable to communicate with the staff on what you want including your sizes etc. They have self-selection stations that allows you to pick and choose what you'd like to rent from sets to ala carte if you happen to bring some of your own gear eg. snowboarding wear etc. Prices are very friendly as well, with the snowboarding board, boots and helmet at a friendly 8500 yen, and a half-day, one-day lift ticket at 6500 yen. Be prepared to be greeted by powder snow with a variety of narrow and wide slopes. I was here on a Saturday in January but in the peak afternoon it wasn't that crowded at all on the wide slopes and you could still snowboard comfortably. Be wary though, the slopes may be a little steep for first-timers so do find an area to grasp the basics first. Love the big space, friendly prices and fast services. Cheers GALA!

Ski & Snowboard Areas
Naeba Ski Resort is a bustling winter sports destination in Japan, known for its diverse terrain catering to skiers and snowboarders of all levels. The resort boasts high-quality powder snow and offers various levels of trails, including a 4-kilometer long downhill route. Additionally, there's a snow amusement park suitable for visitors of all ages. The facilities are comprehensive, and the resort features the world's longest aerial ropeway connecting it to the adjacent Kagura ski resorts.
It’s far from Tokyo but it’s absolutely worth going, I’m an amateur snowboarder but the snow was fluffy and soft which made it easier for me and more enjoyable. The lift ticket was also a fair price and if you’re good at this you could do it as many times as you want, the queue isn’t too bad. The staff are friendly and there was someone needed help which they sent snowmobile asap and managed the situation. Less crowded than Gala so it’s much better. You could rent your ski or snowboard equipment and clothes from nearby shop as on the resort it might be expensive.

Naibos ski resort is the biggest and best equipped in the area if not all of Niigata. It has high speed lifts, gondolas, and conveyor belt lifts for beginners. If this is the first time skiing with friends of varied ability or with a family this is probably the best ski resort to go to. It's huge and has a gondola that gets you to the next ski resort over. With it's huge size and variety of terrain it'll satisfy anyone. There is the Prince hotel which is literally at the bottom of the slopes so you have a close place to stay and the prices are a fraction of that in the USA. Single day lift ticket are under 7000 yen or less than $50 for a full Day ticket. Check around as you can get discounts or they have a 5-hour ski pass for 5000 yen. Naeba it's also great to spend several days at as it's so big you cannot ski the entire resort within a single day. It'll take several.

It's a very beginner friendly ski resort, lots of green line with different difficulty, and easy to difficult blue line to practice advance. Dragondola has a pretty view and different style course in Toshiro ski resort. You can get different level of restaurant cross all building. It's also easy to get from public transportation. Recommend for all the beginners especially for the first time skier/snowboarder. For middle/advance player you can choose others like Kagura ski resort.

The ski resort was a great choice for beginners. It offered plenty of space for me to practice, and there were also areas where I could have fun with my younger brother, who couldn’t ski.The food was also fantastic, with a variety of options that made it easy to refuel during the day. Overall, it was a wonderful trip, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone just starting out or looking for a family-friendly spot.

One of my favorite ski resorts in Japan! About 2 - 3 hours away from Tokyo. Tons of food options between the resort and hotel. Plenty of space for children of all ages. Slopes are more for beginners and advanced skiers and snowboarders with a couple options for experts. Lots of activities and places to visit outside of the resort as well. Let Naeba be your first experience!!

The place was a bit dated but the facilities were good. Slopes available for beginners to experts. Good mountain view at the top. Not much english instructors or signs but everyone is friendly. Food court has plenty of good options

I like this place for the reason that it has all the planes and altitudes we need for fun with snow. From beginners to advance players can have fun at this resort be it ski or snowboarding. Even we have plenty places to have fun for childrens. There are good enough food restaurants available there to quench your hunger. Rental gears are easily available at the spot or from nearby places around there. Also, this place is accessible by bus 🚌 easily from Yuzawa station which is about 1 hour bus ride.

Prince Hotel near the Naeba ski resort offers customers retro furnishings and all the necessary 70s amenities, classic dish choices from the era and staff service that encourages you to be independent and self-reliant. If one wishes to relive or experience the unique charm of the 1970s, Prince Hotel provide their customers with a nostalgic journey at a reasonable price (about $800USD for seven days stay)

Hiking area
Nestled in the heart of Japan, the Ichinokurasawa Trail offers an unforgettable hiking experience with breathtaking views of Mount Tanigawa. Accessible from the base of a ropeway or via an electric bus, this trail showcases stunning scenery that includes remnants of snow even during midsummer. Known for its impressive rock faces, it attracts climbers and nature enthusiasts alike. The hike is relatively easy and takes about 40 minutes from the station, making it perfect for all skill levels.
The hike up the mountain was both beautiful and easy, taking only around 40 minutes from the station. The view during the short hike was incredibly stunning, and we even had the opportunity for some refreshing nature swimming. For those who prefer, there's an option to ride an electric vehicle up to the mountain, and I noticed that many people were making use of this convenient option. Lastly, be sure not to miss out on obtaining a stamp near the gorge as a memento of your visit. It's a wonderful way to capture memories from this experience.

Beautiful and easy hike up the mountain but slightly more tricky if you follow the river. You can just do a circle hike and do boths! Stunning views with not much effort.

Cafe
Garba Cafe バームクーヘン専門店 is a small shop located in Minakami, along the way to Minkami Kogen Resort. While the food choices are limited, the main highlight is their Baumkuchen snacks. The set meal of omu rice and flavorful curry is recommended for lunch, with options like beef, pork, or chicken. Although there might be a wait for your food, it's worth it.
Great desserts and taste lunches. Cappuccino is top notch. Get a seat outside and enjoy the scenery - inside the windows are textured so you can't see any view...

It’s a good spot to drop in after visiting the top of Tenjin Daira among Tanigawa Mountains by Ropeway and lift, as it offers not only its special Baum Cuchen but also Segafredo Coffee and is ranked No. 1 cafe in Minakami according to one chart. Their Baum Cuchen also good to go as souvenirs.
Yumiko S — Google review
A nicely decorated cafe serving Baumkuchen as main cakes, a multi layered cake which is claimed to be favored by German, but none of my German friends agree to it. The interior is modern and relaxing, in contrast with the onsen town of Minakami.

Very nice and cozy restaurant. Pasta and Omelette are great too, as delicious as the baumkuchen!!

Ramen restaurant
谷川ラーメン is a hidden gem that truly shines after a long day of mountain climbing. Nestled in a quiet town, this ramen shop offers a comforting escape with its simple yet satisfying dishes. After an exhausting trek, finding this place open felt like discovering a treasure. The bear char siu noodles are particularly noteworthy; they come generously topped with tender bear meat and accompanied by fresh vegetables and hearty noodles, making for a fulfilling meal.
Really nice owner, after chatting he had us try some dried bear meat. Really nice atmosphere and good food. Bit on the expensive side compared to other places in town but definitely worth it.
Nathamel C — Google review
The food is very delicious! It’s one of the best ramen I’ve ever tasted. The owner was very kind and we talked about various things. I just loved the atmosphere. It was very comfortable. The bear ramen bowl was just ¥1,000 but it’s really massive. I think the price is cheap for the generous amount they are giving. I want to come back here for sure!
YK F — Google review
Is it the most delicious and amazing ramen set in the world? No. But after a mountain climb, cold and tired, and how this was the only place that was open when the rest of the town was dead, it was a god send. As a tourist and traveler this is basically as back to basic as you get with Japanese food. But I would argue it is as close to home cooked as you get. Clean, fresh, and modestly good tasting. The price is good too for the amount of food that you get. The old couple that run it have heart and were willing to entertain and talk to a foreigner who didn't know Japanese. We managed to get by with a bit of broken Japanese on my part and Google translate. Come, sit down, have some food with Grandma and Grandpa and let's talk about daily life.

Locally owned Mom and Pop (literally) ramen restaurant on the way down the hill. Great food, very friendly owner. I couldn't recommend this place any higher. Absolute perfection.

(Translated by Google) I visited here late at around 2pm on my way back from climbing Mt. Hotaka. My goal was to have bear char siu noodles. I've never eaten bear meat before and it was late so there were no other customers, and it took about 10 minutes for me to be presented with the bear char siu noodles. There were a lot of vegetables and noodles, and it was topped with a generous amount of bear char siu. The bear char siu was a little on the tough side, but perhaps because it was char siu, I didn't notice any animal smell. Thank you for the meal, it was delicious.
