Waterfalls
Tad Gneuang Waterfall is a stunning twin waterfall located in a rugged jungle setting. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque sight of the water cascading over rocks from a bridge at the top, and then descend down stairs for an up-close experience of the powerful water drop-off. The site offers amenities such as parking, a cafe, and souvenir shops. While the trail and stairs may be slippery in rainy weather, reaching the base of the waterfall rewards visitors with an incredibly beautiful view.
There are walking trails at the top of the falls with some short bridges to let you access more of the area. While the first bridge seems a bit dodgy, it's quite sturdy. The trail down to the base is steep and you have to duck down as there are trees growing across the trails. It's a beautiful and peaceful place. There are stalls at the top selling all kinds of local wares and foods.

This medium-sized waterfall is a must-visit! You can feel the freshness, beauty, and peace of nature, but unfortunately, you can’t swim in it. There’s a cute little pavilion that makes for a great photo spot. The way down is a bit steep, and you’ll have to bend down a few times because of the trees along the way. Inside the park, you’ll find restaurants, ice cream, and water for sale. The path is beautifully decorated, and there are clean bathrooms. There’s a dirt parking lot. The waterfall is pretty close to the parking lot. There’s a small entrance fee to get into the park.
Prachyan S — Google review
Such an incredible waterfall. The nature around it is breathtaking it feels like you’re in a dream. During the rainy season, the waterfall is full and powerful , making it even more magical. I even saw a fox there it felt like a scene from a fairytale.☀️💦
Za Z — Google review
I finally visited one of Laos’s most famous waterfalls from my bucket list. Going in the rainy season was amazing surrounded by green mountains, water, and fog. The entrance fee was 50,000 Kip, a bit pricey but the view was worth it. I also got to learn some local culture and take lots of beautiful photos. Definitely coming back with my family next time.
Rith P — Google review
Beautiful and huge, so much water power that it is windy and rains from under. Much better than Tad Fane, but still overpriced, with the amount of money they make on entry fees + parking fees the infrastructure should be so much better. Also, the scooters parking area it's all mud.
Federico R — Google review
I really like this place, I like the nature, it's so beautiful, I went and I didn't want to go back and I think I will go again and again.
TH S — Google review
Once again traveling during the rainy season you get to see these waterfalls really flowing. Entrance fees in Laos are reasonable .

Friendship Mall

Shopping mall
Friendship Mall in Pakse is a convenient spot to escape the heat of local markets. You can rent a bicycle and explore the Mekong River, then head to Wat Luang or cross the Japanese friendship bridge for stunning sunset views at Phu Salao. The mall offers shopping at supermarkets and department stores, as well as entertainment like a movie theater and video game arcade. While there are some overpriced fast food options, the food court offers reasonably priced Lao cuisine.
We found everything we need here. Mini so, foodcourt and coffee. We had a satisfied lunch and topped up our daily necessities. Especially the food store and the coffee shop, where the staff were very polite and helpful. Perfect!
Jay L — Google review
We took shelter in that mall to flee from the heat wave outside. The food court offers enough options just like a food market but with air conditioning. Many locals were having lunch there. If you still rather have western food, other restaurants surround the court. The tables are rather clean and the staff is reactive. Not contactless payment card here you pay at the counter and you are served at the table. Espresso is expensive and not that good.
Rémy “ — Google review
They have like street food in the evening start around 16.00 and there are quite many kind of food.
Nang S — Google review
it is a small mall but i believe it is the pride of Pakse. On evening, there is a Food Street just outside the mall. My kids love the amusement centre to play coin operated machine games. not much shops though, very basic rural mall.
Patrick L — Google review
Nice place to spend time and enjoy the quality time with friends and family. Good shopping options available.
Sagar M — Google review
Very nice place to pick up the essentials, as well as has an incredible movie theater at a great price. The mall also acts as a community center, so you can see fashion shows, holiday events (local and western, like Christmas) and the like. I wish they had a cafe or some place offering WiFi, though.
Dan B — Google review
The mall was a shelter in the incredible heat, and also we could change money for very good rate. Also the food in the Japanese Restaurant was perfect.

Restaurant
Sabaidee Pakse Restaurant is a popular dining spot located in a tourist-friendly area of Pakse. It offers a variety of local, Thai, and Western dishes in an open-air setting with a roof at a junction. Visitors have praised the restaurant for its comforting and delicious food, noting that the family-owned establishment provides attentive service with English-speaking staff.
What's with all the bad reviews? Maybe fake reviews? I dined here on a few occasions, and I only had great experiences. The service was prompt and always with huge smiles. The food was super fresh, the portion sizes were generous, and the taste was nice. The prices. They charged me the exact amount on the menu, and there was no confusion or any trickery. Great restaurant. Thanks for the lovely experience.
A G — Google review
We saw this was quite busy each night so decided to give it a go (especially since they do tofu and my partner is vegan). When we arrived, a staff member greeted us and turned the fan on above us leaving us with a good first impression. Once we ordered however, things declined. The friendly staff member we had left and another person came in (worth noting they were both children). Our food took a very long time and they brought it all out together, typically things like spring rolls get brought out as appetizers so I'd recommend asking for an order of food as that for sure contributed to our long wait (note that there was only 1 other table as we ate early circa 5:15pm). Once it arrived, it was very bland. I got Thai basil and it was lacking in spice and flavour (better flavour on the food you get on long bus journeys). My partner said it was completely flavourless and was a difficult eat. The staff at this point also had completely disappeared. The place itself is relatively clean and nice but we would certainly not recommend this place unless you really struggle with food and need something western/basic.
Isaac P — Google review
second time to order in this resto, dine in and the last time was take out but same result of service. For this 4 tiny pieces of fresh rolls it took more than 40mins considering the few guests dining, plus the cold treatment of the servers
Archie M — Google review
Careful... they served big potion. Slightly above average price.... but they compensate you with big portion dishes.
Lim W — Google review
Located next to the Green Paradise bus stop in Pakse, so a good spot for a first beer.
Sander H — Google review
I cannot honestly recommend this restaurant. The staff were a bit ignoring, but the time of the food processing was ok. However, we ordered two fried rice vegetables and they were literally not tasty at all. We've eaten hundreds of fried rice before and this was one of the few without taste except the salt.. The vegetables were also low. When paying at the counter, the woman behind the desk "suddenly made a mistake" about the price. (We only ordered two fried rice vegetables and one beer, so it was not difficult at all). Luckily we had read the reviews before about the same situation that has experienced by several people. (Pro tip: filter them always from low to high). So, we had already counted the correct amount of money. Therefore, please, keep an eye on the right amount of money when paying at the end. We will definitely not visit again!

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! if you want comfort food this is the place . it’s family own have honestly everything feel like it was made with love 🤗❤️ our server seem like he was the owner son. his english was really good. usually when i go to this types of restaurant i would always have to help translate. during our trip we came here like every single day. and we were please every time!! the only thing i just don’t recommend is the hamburger. my stomach had trouble digesting afterwords. their hamburgers are different. they put carrots and cucumbers just to warn y’all. i recommend all the traditional laos food such as the papaya salad, fried rice, tom yum, and the fried fish . and not only is the food good. the prices are sooo cheap!!! 20k-60k kip if i remember. this place attracts many foreigners. it’s definitely what you’re looking for when your in laos. it’s only street parking so i recommend walking or taking a motorcycle.

Wat Luang is a prominent Buddhist temple located in Pakse, Laos, offering stunning views of the Sedone River. The temple is adorned with beautiful murals and houses valuable artifacts, including funerary reliquaries containing the ashes of a former Prime Minister. Visitors can observe monks studying at the nearby school and enjoy sunset views from this popular attraction.
This is a beautiful Buddhist temple where you can see the beautiful architecture, murals, carved doors, statues, and listen to rye chanting of prayers, etc. The monks that we interacted with were all very kind, playful, and happy. You can give a donation and then feed the fish at the river bank. We went right around sunset, noy the greatest for yakinh pictures, but the sunsets in Pakse are gorgeous

Wat Luang – Pakse 🇱🇦🙏 A beautiful and peaceful temple with stunning architecture and a serene atmosphere. 🏯✨ The monks were incredibly kind—they generously offered us food and lots of snacks after learning we were students and travelers. 🍛🥠 Such a heartwarming experience! I've seen a lot of pagodas in my days, and there isn't really anything too special about this one. It overlooks the Xe Don River in the back, making it a good place to view some boat races if it's that time of the year, but otherwise I can't really think of a reason to make an effort to come here.

Dao Hueng Market (main Pakse market)

Market
Pakse Market is a bustling and colorful local market where you can immerse yourself in the authentic daily life of the city. It offers a wide variety of goods, from fresh produce to handicrafts and textiles, providing visitors with a taste of local culture. The market is known for its traditional Lao wet market atmosphere, offering an array of items for sale, including Mekong fish and delicious local foods.
Walking through the vegetable and fresh food areas feels like a feast for the senses. You'll see piles of colorful vegetables and smell the fresh earth and spices. People are busy buying and selling everything from common greens to special herbs and river fish. It's a great place to see how local people shop and live.
Nang S — Google review
The local market offers a diverse array of products, with several businesses being owned by individuals from Cambodia and Vietnam.
Sy S — Google review
It generally seemed quite typical for a market in SE Asia, however I would say much more on the dirtier side. I would be unsure about eating from here (and I love market food). It smelled quite bad but there was a lot of variety of vendors.
Isaac P — Google review
Go to pakse, don't expect it to be like vietnam, it's more reserved and much more calm than saigon or Hanoi, it's even quiet compared to Huế, but you can relax a lot here in pakse and the market is big enough for your day out
Connor M — Google review
Prices at the foodcourt are either not indicated or not abided by. Most restaurants don't display their prices at all. One restaurant displayed 15000 for most dishes, yet charged 45000 after cooking. Another restaurant even asked me 60000 for a simple dish. Another problem at this market is the beggars. There are adult begars but, even more worryingly, child beggars. Yet, there is not a single police officer in sight! I kindly ask Pakse police to pay attention to what is going on at this market.
Anton K — Google review
Big market! Food to eat, meat, fish, dessert, gold, everything that makes Laos Lao is here! Friendly ppl and lots of neat things to check out. I bought a beautiful sarong to wear to Lao festivals. Try to learn basic Laos because it will go a long way.

huge local market where people gathering from early morning to sale different kind of fish and vegetables. you can find most of everything but i would say banded closthes are very simple and it's not a brandy one u would find here so in case if you want to buy a better one go other shopping more. i usually prefer to mekong fish here in the easrly morning because most of them are fresh

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Wat Phousalao is the largest temple in Laos and a top religious attraction. The highlight of the temple is a massive statue of Lord Buddha at the entrance. The traditional Buddhist architecture and serene atmosphere make it a peaceful place to visit. To reach Wat Phousalao, visitors can rent a motorbike, bicycle, or take a tuk-tuk for stunning views over Pakse city and the Mekong River.
To reach the hill with the Buddha Statue and the Temple, you have to climb almost 600 steps, some are vey high and narrow. Also the way is very steep and has not always a hand railing. After you reached the top, you get honoured with a great view over the Mekong River and the city of Pakse. It’s an amazing atmosphere up there. The Phousalao Temple consists of several buildings, Temples and hundreds of small Buddhas. If you cannot climb those stairs, take a car (not a motorcycle with sidecar) and drive up. If you are in the region, it is a must to visit the Temple Phousalao.
Erich A — Google review
Take a look at this massive golden Buddha statue perched on a hill. You can either climb up the 600 steps or drive up the hill for about 4.9 kilometers. From up there, you’ll get a breathtaking view of the serene city of Pakse and the Mekong rivers. And it’s completely free to enter!
Prachyan S — Google review
Temple on the top of a hill, with a 23 meters high Buddha statue, and numerous smaller ones. Good view over Pakse. There's a 250 steps staircase if you feel sporty. But you can also drive up there. It's built around 2011, and it's nice, but nothing special.
Sander H — Google review
There are over 300 steep steps up the hill to reach the golden Buddha. Take your time but make sure you bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Good views of the area from the top of the hill. No tickets required.
Gary T — Google review
Beautiful temple, with a big Buddha sitting on top of mountain as though he is looking after the Pakse area and it's people, again rows of little Buddha statues is something very unique to this temple. Other than that amazing view of Mekong River, Pakse, mountains and one could definitely enjoy the sunset from this temple.
Ajay M — Google review
An absolutely stunning spot with breathtaking views over the river and Pakse. We walked all the way from the city, crossing the bridge on foot and then climbing up the staircase — you’ll see it on your left about 300 meters after the bridge. Yes, it’s a bit of a workout (around 600 steps through the forest), but completely worth it — and honestly, way more fun and rewarding than just taking a tuk-tuk. As you climb, the views start peeking through near the top, but the real payoff is the panoramic view from the summit. It’s truly unforgettable. If you’re able, I highly recommend going on foot. The stairs make for a unique experience and really add to the journey. You can also get there by taxi or tuk-tuk if needed, but the hike makes it feel earned. Overall, this is a must-visit when in Pakse — peaceful, scenic, and memorable.
JOKER'S — Google review

La Terrasse is a charming and nostalgic cafe/restaurant that lacks traditional walls, allowing a gentle breeze to provide natural cooling on hot days. They offer a diverse menu with the flexibility to create personalized dishes upon request. The "Laab Gai" pizza, made to order with minimal spice and no onions, was not only delicious but also impressive in size. The attentive staff speaks enough English to ensure a comfortable dining experience.
Been travelling through Asia and really craved a pizza, I was very pleasantly surprised about how good this pizza was. It came from a proper pizza oven which made it taste much better. Treated myself to a nice glass of red too for a proper ‘home comforts’ dinner. Nice chilli and garlic oils, plenty of veggie options. Lovely owners too. A lot of the reviews say that it’s a takeaway place but I don’t know why because there’s an actual restaurant that can fit plenty of people inside.
Olivia M — Google review
We all 4 of us came for the pizza but did not had the budget for it at the end. We all took Asian food and it was really good, laap, fried noodles and the chicken with cream. Service was good. Beer were fresh and it was overall cheap!

Delicious pizza, well worth a visit. It's not really a sit-down restaurant, but you can put in your order and come back to pick it up for takeaway/take-out. The owner is friendly and provided good service. Good value for the price, too - the pizzas were large and filling.
Johanna C — Google review
Pizza like the ones from your good pizzaria at home. It seems as if the resturant is struggling a bit after covid. The resturant has chanced its name, the menu card has been downsized as well as the resturant it self. In spite of all that the good quality pizza’s are still incredible. Very humble owner who I would recommend supporting if you want takeaway or don’t mind eating a place that’s not fancy. An extra plus was that the portions were so big that I could bring a few slices back to the hostel (note: my boyfriend did finish all of his)

Clean place, good hosts and tasty food. Pizzas as well as the Chicken in French sauce was the best available in Pakse. Pizza was freshly baked then and there !! Very down to earth. Do not expect a pretentious show of hospitality. Genuine warmth of Lao people is there. Must visit place. Only downside was it doesn't have the kind of booze options like some other places.

The restaurant features attractive photos to help customers choose their meals. The food is both cheap and delicious, with properly cooked vegetables that are still crunchy and flavorful. Customers can enjoy options like whole fish prepared to their liking or more modest choices such as fried noodles, chicken wings, braised pork belly, morning glory, and tofu.
Definitely one of the best restaurants in town. It is far and away my favorite. I have a weird diet and am difficult to please, and this place is consistently delicious and has very high quality food. I feel good after eating here, where many other places around town hurt my stomach. It is across the street from the most healthy and active nighttime destination, the stadium. The Daolin has great food, and the location is prime. It is walking distance to the river, the largest market in southern Laos and the Friendship mall. If you ask for no spicy peppers or land meat, it comes as asked with a smile. The seafood is cooked properly and is fresh. There are great vegetarian options, too. The staff are attentive and friendly. The shakes can be ordered without sugar, and they are still tasty. I've eaten at most other restaurants around town, and this is my favorite. Worth the walk from any destination.

Stopped by Dao Lin Restaurant for lunch and was really impressed! From the moment I arrived, the place had a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere — clean, bright, and comfortable, making it a great spot for a midday meal. The staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful, offering quick service with genuine smiles, which made the experience even better. The menu is extensive, with a huge variety of dishes to choose from — something for everyone, whether you’re in the mood for local Lao specialties or something a bit more familiar. I decided on the fried chicken and sticky rice combo along with an order of fried spring rolls. The chicken was perfectly cooked — crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside — and paired really well with the sticky rice. The spring rolls were golden, crunchy, and packed with flavor. Everything came out fresh and hot, and it was clear that care went into the preparation. Dao Lin is a great choice if you’re looking for a solid, well-rounded meal in Pakse. It’s the kind of place you could easily return to more than once and still find new things to try. Definitely worth a visit!

Really nice food, little more expensive but nice place, we had bbq chicken (basically grilled chicken breast), veggies with chicken and spring rolls, shakes are good too

Went there as it was close to our hotel, it was recommended by our guide, while the neighborhood is not great but the food was very good. We ordered several dishes all of which were tasty.

Stopped by for lunch and was really impressed! The menu has a ton of options but I went with the fried chicken legs and papaya salad combo, plus some fried spring rolls. Everything was quite delicious! The staff were friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was clean and pleasant. Definitely worth a try if you’re in the area!

It is a restaurant that I have gone to when I have visited Champasak. It is such a nice restaurant and have a vast variety of food. You can find an authentic taste of Laos cuisine here. The price is acceptable with the amount of food that they provide to us. Highly recommended to come over and have your dinner here.

Amazing and so sweet. Dao Lin means two daughters and it’s family run. Quick service and a large menu selection including vegan and vegetarian. We had lots of fun here and you must try avocado shake with coconut milk.

A/Cs and fans blowing at you in a glass house. Guests coughing. The dragonfruit shake tasted foul, had to "keep it" and pay for it anyway. Food was drowning in black pepper, couldn't taste much behind it. The mushrooms had good texture. Big portion. The meat tasted like it didn't belong in the food, tasteless. This place probably makes good vegetarian foods. I would not come here alone, if again at all.
