Tallinn in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Tallinn, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Tallinn is the medieval capital city of Estonia. There are plenty of things to see here, not least the city’s 13th century Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site where tall spires rise above narrow cobblestone streets. The town is home to markets, festivals, and many beautiful churches, such as St. Nicholas Church, which has a Baroque interior and a striking blue spire. Tourists can also visit Tallinn’s many museums and art galleries, including the Museum of Occupations.
With favorites like Viru Keskus, Restaurant Manna La Roosa, and Kadriorg Art Museum, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like City Grill House and Mon Repos so you can get the best taste of Tallinn while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Ülemiste Centre, the largest shopping mall in Estonia, opened its doors on April 1, 2004, and has since become a beloved destination for both locals and visitors in Tallinn. This expansive shopping haven boasts over 230 stores featuring renowned brands alongside delightful eateries and cafes. Families will appreciate the dedicated kids' play area as well as facilities catering to visitors with special needs.
Massive department store, very clean and spacious, so many different shops and places to eat. Just wish there were more signs and directions, it's a maze and very tricky to locate the main entrance/exit.
L L — Google review
Great shopping centre! It’s modern, bright, not very spacious, no smells, good gents toilets. Plenty of shop. Numerous fast food places. Kids playgrounds. One could actually live in here, man. People speak Estonian, English and Russian around here, so there is no language barrier for some, multicultural society in its glory.
Filf — Google review
The Centre has a modern interior, a spacious and Scandinavian feel and it offers a broad selection of quality and well-known goods and services. Entertainment is also well represented at Ulemiste – there are events that capture the interest of the entire family. This large shopping center is also located relatively close to the center. There are plenty of shops there. Plenty of parking space.
Sayem F — Google review
Quite large shopping mall, with many different shops: shoes (a lot of different stores!), clothing, accessories. It is a bit outside Tallinn centre, but the tram (same that goes to the airport) takes you here in 15-20 minutes.
Henri ( — Google review
You can get lost here! Be careful 😉
Mohammad A — Google review
New parking rules - 5 hours of FREE parking! The largest shopping center in Estonia, where navigation inside the center is quite difficult and it is quite easy to get lost. Over 230 sales and service stores. It is intended for all visitors, mothers and children, visitors with special needs and families. There is a wardrobe for outerwear and lockers for anything else. Possibility to charge your phone and use trolleys.
Anna-Liis A — Google review
A well equipped shopping center where you can easily spend the afternoon without getting bored. Plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from, with adequate public spaces and plenty of free parking space too. Easy to reach by a car or local train.
Ari S — Google review
Easy to get to mall from just outside the gates at Viru. Tram 4 or bus no 15 takes you there (10 minutes). Plenty of shops ( especially shoe shops, never seen so many ) eateries, cafes, bars, cinema. Lovely clean mall, and not one shop front boarded up.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Tallinn, Solaris is a modern shopping haven that beautifully blends retail therapy with cultural experiences. As the largest shopping mall in Estonia, it offers an impressive array of fashion boutiques showcasing local Estonian designers alongside international brands. Visitors can explore trendy clothing and accessories at popular outlets like Pull & Bear and Mango, while beauty aficionados will delight in discovering skincare treasures at The Body Shop.
Solaris is a modern, well-kept shopping centre in the heart of the city. It’s clean, easy to navigate, and has a good mix of shops, cafes, and entertainment options. Great location, especially if you're exploring nearby cultural spots. Not the biggest mall, but convenient and stylish. I particulary like the groceries store inside
Black D — Google review
Just a short distance from the city center, this trade center offers a cozy atmosphere and a decent food court with affordable options. While it provides a few clothing and shoe stores, they're somewhat limited. Visitors should be aware that there's a small fee of 20 cents for restroom use. Overall, it's a convenient spot for a quick bite and some shopping.
Muge B — Google review
A nice shopping centre with a good selection of shops, including a supermarket. Good place to shelter from the rain. There is a food court, though I did not eat there. The downside is that there are not enough seating areas, and you have to pay to use the toilets. The centre is wheelchair accessible. There are lifts to all floors. There are disabled toilets.
Shelley C — Google review
While staying in Kesklinn this shopping centre became our local. For good quality food & choice the supermarket below was excellent. Nice cafes inc Lido & a good cheese store too.
Nick S — Google review
The Solaris is an environmentally friendly shopping centre in the heart of Tallinn. A small shopping mall next to Estonian Drama Theatre. A sparse selection of shops. What was most attractive is a large restaurant Lido on the top floor. Lido is a concept where you can eat both local and Eastern European food, and everything from snacks, main dishes, accessories and desserts. A big supermarket downstairs. The location is central, not far from the Old Town and Viru.
Sayem F — Google review
Nice shopping mall with a few great shops (a lot of them are ones I’ve never been to though😭) and 2 movie theatres (why 2??) also has some great restaurants. The sitting places are always taken and the mall is often crowded overall.

Nice and cozy trade center. Great food court, affordable prices. Location is great, not far from the city center. Also you can buy some clothes and shoes here. However there is not much of such shops. Toilet inside costs 20 cents.

Viru Keskus is a spacious retail complex located in the heart of Tallinn's city center, offering a mix of regional shops and international chains. The mall features over 170 stores, including popular brands like Zara and H&M for fashion enthusiasts, as well as Euronics and iDeal for tech lovers. Additionally, visitors can explore the Food Street area with 16 cafes, restaurants, and bars offering a diverse range of culinary experiences.
Perfect Spot for Shopping and Dining in the Heart of Tallinn! Viru Keskus central location makes it incredibly convenient—right in the heart of the city and easily accessible by foot, public transport, or car. The mall features an impressive selection of top international and local brands, making it a great place for everything from fashion and beauty to electronics and lifestyle essentials. Whether you're looking for luxury labels or more affordable options, you'll find something that suits your style and budget. One of my favorite parts of Viru Keskus is the food court—it’s diverse, modern, and packed with quality choices. From quick bites to gourmet meals, there's something delicious for every craving. The mall is clean, stylish, and well-organized, with friendly staff and a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere. Whether you're shopping, dining, or just meeting up with friends, Viru Keskus delivers a great all-around experience. Highly recommended for both locals and visitors!

A pretty big city mall with half a dozen floors filled with stores. Strangle floor plan, but a pretty good selection of retailers. Clothes, electronics, candy, tea, you name it. The place wasn’t very crowded, but most seating in the open areas were filled with people playing with their phone. Prices are a bit steep. Not sure if this is a place aimed at tourists, but I compared a few things I buy frequently in Sweden, and the prices here were higher. Also, not a lot of local stores. Like in most malls, it’s the big, known brands that take up most of the space. That said, there’s a pretty great bookstore with a coffee shop on the third floor. Nice vibes there.
Robert I — Google review
On a cold and rainy day, this was a great place to stop, to do some window shopping, and to walk around. It’s a quick walk over to the Old Town walls from here. There was also a nice food area where we were able to stop and get a quick bite to eat while the weather cleared up.
Lindsay B — Google review
Right in the heart of Tallinn, next to the old town gates. Super convenient location if you're downtown. It's got pretty much everything you'd expect from a big city mall – tons of shops (clothes, electronics, home stuff, the usual chains), a big supermarket downstairs, and a decent food court upstairs with lots of quick eats. The bus terminal connection is a major plus for getting around or heading to the airport. Solid, practical choice for central shopping or grabbing a bite. Great for basics and people-watching. Don't expect luxury or unique boutiques, but it gets the job done. Worth popping into if you're nearby.

So many shops , food court is awesome. Have Asian corner Georgian corner and many more choices to pick from. The toilet is not free u have to pay 50 each time you enter.

Stayed in Tallinn for 2 nights. The location was great. It was directly connected to the shopping mall and within walking distance to the old town. The rooms are old but well maintained. The beds are not too old, but the view from the rooms is good. The breakfast is delicious and has a wide variety of items. This is a recommended hotel in Tallinn.

Great food hall in the shopping mall , two minutes walk from Estonia bus stop . We ate here 3 times as there was a great selection of different eats , it was a god send .

A wonderful shopping mall! My wife and kids were thrilled, and when my daughter saw the toy in the photo, she absolutely fell in love with it — something that doesn’t happen very often, but it did here. The mall has a huge variety of stores, plenty of options for the whole family, and a lively atmosphere. Whether you’re a tourist or a local, I highly recommend visiting — you’ll definitely find something you enjoy.

Nature & Parks
Kadriorg Park is a historic city park in Tallinn, Estonia, established in the 18th century and home to the impressive Kadriorg Palace. The park features formal gardens, museums, and monuments. Visitors can explore a wide range of museums within the park, including art museums like Kumu Art Museum and unique ones such as the Estonian Health Museum and Soviet Statue Graveyard.
Kadriorg Park is a true gem in the heart of Tallinn. Beautifully maintained, peaceful, and full of history. The flower gardens are stunning in summer, and the autumn colors are magical. Perfect for a relaxing walk, a romantic date, or a family picnic. The Swan Pond, Japanese Garden, and elegant palace architecture make it feel like a fairy tale. Great place to escape the city noise without ever leaving it. One of my favorite spots in Estonia — always worth a visit!
Stiven D — Google review
It’s a nice park, pretty big in total, even if it’s cut up by a road. A few playgrounds for kids, but they looked a bit worn down. The real downside is that they’ve really kept down the number of trees. They’re very sparsely planted, so you almost always see the surrounding city. Never any sense of being in a small forest. Also not a lot of variety overall. It mostly looks the same across the whole park. Except for a small area where there’s a Japanese inspired garden. I’ve for sure seen nicer parks, but this one is fine for a stroll. Not too crowded, even on a nice Sunday afternoon.
Robert I — Google review
A beautiful park in the city center, accessible by tram No. 1. A place to enjoy the scenic views, relax, enjoy the beauty of nature, and gain peace of mind.

Beautiful park and easily reachable with public transportation. It has really nice walkable paths and hosts several museums. It's a must for a several days itinerary in Tallinn. With gloomy weather this park gives Irish/Scottish vibes.

Nice park with well maintained gardens behind the palace art museum. Lots of museums scattered through the park as well! There was a cafe and a few (pay-to-use) bathrooms as well.

Very nice and spacious park area with both Kadriorg castle and the presidential residence. Ran into the president himself by chance. Great place for a run

**"Kadriorg Palace and its gardens are an absolute gem in Tallinn. The palace itself is stunning – a beautiful example of baroque architecture, with elegant halls and ornate details that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Inside, the art collection is well-curated and offers a great glimpse into Estonia’s cultural heritage. The gardens are just as impressive. Perfectly landscaped, with colorful flower beds, fountains, and tree-lined paths, they are a peaceful escape from the city bustle. I visited in summer, and everything was in full bloom – it felt like walking through a living painting. Even if you’re not into art, a stroll through the gardens alone is worth the visit. It’s the kind of place where you can take your time, enjoy a coffee in the nearby café, and simply soak in the beauty. Definitely a must-see when in Tallinn

A must when visiting Tallinn which in turn is a lovely city in a forward looking small country of Estonia. Its people has suffered from Russians for centuries yet they do not give up. The park is beautiful, and the city wall of the old city, are the two of the sights with rich histories.

Kadriorg Art Museum is located in a stunning Baroque palace built by Tsar Peter the Great for his wife Catherine. The museum is dedicated to foreign art and features a permanent collection of around 10,000 works including Dutch, Italian, Russian, and German paintings from the 16th to 20th century. Additionally, visitors can explore special exhibitions and admire sculpture, graphic art, furniture, porcelain, and glass.
Cool palace with nice cafe. We got lucky with the sunny weather when we went there. The palace entry fee is quite hefty however and there isn't too much to see inside for that price. I would recommend just sticking to the outside as well as the surrounding gardens which are all free.

Would definitely recommend everyone to go there. It’s like a heaven inside the city. Both the park and the museum are incredibly beautiful. Most of the museum was closed as of August due to a new installation coming up. The halls, paintings, rooms all depict the gothic style. The sculpture room which can be easily missed has some really important sculptures and if you have time you can listen and learn about their historic background.

Wonderful little chalet with an impressive art exhibition. We were there at the special exhibition about flowers in art, and the paintings were stunning. Lots of Breughels, and dozens of other paintings from old Dutch masters. They also have a very interesting "Wunderkammer", with all kinds of curiosities, like the skeleton of a mermaid, or a two-headed chicken. Also, the architecture of the building itself is quite beautiful, inside and outside. There also is a courtyard in the back, where in summer lots and lots of flowers will bloom. And in front of the chalet, there is an extensive park.

1 | The museum is housed in the Baroque Kadriorg Palace, which was built in the early 18th century by the Russian Tsar Peter I for his wife Catherine I. The museum specializes in European and Russian art from the 16th to the early 20th century, featuring foreign collections that have no equivalent elsewhere in Estonia. 2 | The adjacent garden and park are worth visiting even if you’re not interested in paintings or don’t plan to go inside. The garden in particular is truly beautiful and deserves great admiration. Entrance to it is free. 3 | The museum ticket costs €15 (October 2025), and you can pay by card.
Petr N — Google review
This is one of the best art museums I have visited. There was a lot of good artwork, and the pieces were very well displayed. The building itself is beautiful, so even if I had not enjoyed the art, I would have enjoyed the decoration of the rooms. You must leave bags in the lockers. These are free to use. There is a small cafe. There are toilets. These were in a clean condition. There was a small souvenir shop. My only complaint is that when purchasing one of the beautiful cards, I was not provided with an envelope to go with it. I did query this and was told they do not have any to fit the card, so now I have a card I cannot post. The cashier was also rude. You have to buy tickets to enter. There is a ticket desk or a machine in the main entrance. The last Wednesday of each month has a reduced ticket price. You get free entry with a Tallinn Card. There is partial access for people who use a wheelchair. There is a lift, and portable ramps are used for some steps. The Russian art collection on the third floor is not accessible. There are accessible toilets There were tactile plans in the museum.

It is an amazing historical and beautiful museum with a garden at the front. It is worth visiting, taking photographs, and one can walk to the nearby parks.

Visited in November. Nice colorful castle with a connecting garden and park. Lovely to have a stroll around to get away from the city. Tram Line 1 stops just outside the park for easy access to and from the city. You can also walk straight down to the sea and the Russian monument there.

We live at the hotel and this restaurant is perfect for us with kids and have a lot of space for them to walk around. The food is just perfect and we stayed 3 days in the hotel and every day we will dine in for dinner there. Price is average. The share plate ( both seafood or meat) is just great for 3 persons. Very friendly with kids and allergy options. Highly recommend

Service is great, Ingrid was nice, kind and pleasant. The space is beautiful, but the food…. It’s just ok. It’s far from being great, it’s just ok. We ordered a ribeye steak and the octopus dish. Be aware this is more like a fine dining, meaning it’s well presented, but a small portion. So a side dish would be nice, depending on how hungry you are.

Outstanding Service from Ingrid – Truly Exceptional! From the moment I interacted with Ingrid, I was blown away by her professionalism, warmth, and genuine care. She delivers the kind of customer service that’s rare to find these days – thoughtful, attentive, and completely dedicated to ensuring everything runs smoothly. Ingrid went above and beyond to help me, offering insightful recommendations that were not only helpful but clearly tailored to my needs. She took the time to listen, explained everything clearly, and made sure I felt comfortable every step of the way. Her politeness and calm demeanor made the entire experience feel effortless and enjoyable. You can tell she truly cares about people, not just transactions. Her kindness is matched by her knowledge and efficiency – a perfect combination. If every business had someone like Ingrid, the world would be a much better place. I can’t recommend her highly enough – thank you, Ingrid, for setting the gold standard in customer service!

Tried City Grill House and overall had a pleasant experience. The tacos were definitely the highlight – full of flavor and really well done. The beef burger, on the other hand, was a bit underwhelming – nothing bad, just fairly average. The atmosphere was decent but didn’t particularly stand out. Still, the service was friendly and the food hit the mark enough for a solid 4-star experience. Would return, especially for the tacos!

Mon Repos is a renowned restaurant in Estonia that has been featured in the Michelin Guide 2023. The country's culinary scene offers a diverse range of quality establishments, and Mon Repos stands out as a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts. With its talented chefs blending classic Estonian and international cuisines, the restaurant invites guests to savor delicious delights while taking a genuine break.
The restaurant has a very pleasant atmosphere. The food, in general, was quite good. However, for a Michelin Guide restaurant, I would expect more consistent quality. While some dishes were close to excellent, others were merely good and lacked a standout quality. For instance, the variation of Vitello tonnato was overly salty. The Sablefish, on the other hand, was better than expected. The service, however, was outstanding. The staff was incredibly welcoming, attentive to detail, and maintained a polite demeanor throughout the dining experience.

We had our lunch here, super nice. The duck was so tender; the beef tenderloin was well matched with crispy potato cake; and the fries with truffle sauce was really delicious. The vibe was super nice, with excellent view (especially if one manages to sit next to the windows).

One of the best dining experiences we had during our 5 weeks travel. Staff were amazing since we walked in. She was friendly and very efficient. We came across the venue after a museum visit nearby. We were lucky able to walks in. Food was excellent. The starter popcorn prawns especially the sauce was fresh and tasty. My duck was tender with a creamy truffle potato mash and berry juice. I loved the potato. No wonder they received a Michelin which is well deserved. Overall we enjoyed our dining here and a nice way to celebrate my birthday. Thank you! ☺️

We’ve been occasional visitors of this restaurant for years. In the past, it consistently offered premium food at a reasonable price—higher than average, but worth it—paired with top-notch quality every time. Unfortunately, recently, it’s become hit or miss. The restaurant still has a wonderful atmosphere and exceptional service, but the consistency in the kitchen has declined. During our latest visit, everything was excellent except for the duck, which was overcooked. However, the prawns and everything else on the duck plate were still delicious. In my opinion, given the recent inconsistency, it’s no longer worth the price.

Restaurant Manna La Roosa is a unique cocktail bar and restaurant located in an old wooden house near the Viru Gates. The building, dating back to 1872, has a fascinating history, having served as a Russian Market and later as a pharmacy run by a Sicilian lady selling natural remedies. The bar is named after her. The interior is an eclectic mix of Russian orthodox iconography, street art, anarchist posters, fake flowers, Indian wall hangings, and vintage glamour photos.
Fantastic venue. Very good atmosphere and decorated to perfection. We went very early as we have small children. (1730). We had some drinks a starter and main. The food was very good, definately recommend. Greetings from the Netherlands

We were there on Friday. The food and cocktails were good, but there were no entrance checks, and the lack of security seemed odd for such a venue. Later that night, people started entering with plastic bottles of drinks. The decor was magnificent, and you were confused about which way to look.

We had the Tenderloin Steak, and the accompanying cherry sauce was a unique twist we had never experienced before and was lovely. It is an absolutely beautiful place inside and out. If we ever return to Tallinn, we will be sure to return here again.

I have to say that this restaurant has one of the best interiors in Tallinn. All tables and chairs are different. Each room has each own vibe. Food tase would not leave you unsatisfied either. However I had Butter Chicken and as for a grown man the portion was definitely a bit too small. I didn't try the cocktails, but they looked pretty much tempting. Have to come back one day. Come here if you're looking for a great experience.

Excellent place to drink or eat! The staff has been absolutely great, the location is easy to reach and see and the interior is a real work of art, period! Food quality is very nice, good quantity, pricing is reasonable and in line with the area - maybe a little less than the overcrowded touristic places around! Definitely, definitely, definitely worth a visit!

Atmosphere is incredible! Loved it a lot! Food was even better than atmosphere. Totally recommend to try Gourmet Platter. That's definitely that rare moment when it's not only delicious but also interesting. Thank you so much!

Most cocktails are overpriced and have LOTS of ice. Passion Martini was good though. Music was average both times I’ve been here. Interior design is great! Overall vibe can be described as “desperate” (after 10PM experience). Service was at standard Estonian level. Extremely overrated place.

Cru is a trendy, yet historic restaurant in Tallinn’s Old Town. The menu features both traditional and contemporary dishes from Estonia and France. The building that houses the restaurant dates back to the 1500s, and provides a genuine medieval atmosphere.
Amazing setting for dinner in the historic Cru building. Definitely book to ensure you get a table through the easy to use website. We were greeted by the welcoming and friendly staff. Our visit was on the 26th of December, which is a bank holiday. The reduced menu had ample choice. Our food was served at our own pace, which gave us time to enjoy the experience. The food was to a high standard and very tasty. Thank you to all the team for the efficient and friendly service they provide 🙏

Popped in for a plate of mushroom ravioli. The staff were very pleasant and the service was fast. The ravioli tasted very good but came cold (hence the rating of 3). Unfortunately I was leaving for the airport otherwise I would have returned the dish.

I had seen the menu in my hotel room and wanted to try the carbonara pasta. That was not on the menu we received (see pics). They were able to make the carbonara anyway 🙂 Service was very friendly and welcoming Atmosphere is lovely, especially the outside area with beautiful flowers (but not ideal for people watching) I was a little underwhelmed by the pasta but my son liked it more than I did. I thought it could have used maybe more Parmesan and pepper?

The atmosphere was absolutely lovely. We started with the bruschetta which was amazing, followed by the tiger prawn pasta paired with a glass of Riesling - a truly sensational meal. We hadn’t booked in advance but the staff were kind enough to fit us in, which made the whole experience even better.

Our food was very good. We had the Gnocchi and Eggplant parmigiana, and a shrimp dish as a starter. We had the red house wine and it was delicious! Service was very friendly.

I ordered beef cheeks, and seasonal desert. The main dish was okay, but did not impress me, jus because the colours were sad. Anyway it was high quality, realy tasty. And the seasonal desert was unexpectedly great. I’ve got a recomendation from Anna. Great servise

Really delicious food - we had the carbonara and beef check for mains, and pistachio ice cream and tiramisu for desert. All amazing and the restaurant itself was beautifully decorated. Attentive staff, highly recommend ☺️

Visited Osteria Il Cru and was absolutely delighted! The carpaccio was simply excellent — fresh and tender, and the frutti di mare pasta was perfectly cooked, full of rich seafood flavor. The wine list was a real pleasure — thoughtful and diverse. The atmosphere is cozy, and the staff are incredibly attentive and friendly. A truly wonderful experience — I’ll definitely be back!
