A very nice and trendy cafe with impressive Christmas decor. The place offers good sweet and savoury pastries and pies. It is a good place for breakfast. Beware that the place is very popular and gets crowded, it is often hard to find a table. There can also be a lot of smoke and noise.

Really nice place to go and enjoy your brunch , nice atmosphere and most important of all very tasty food! The ingredients were fresh and our coffee good. Service was fast and the staff very polite. For sure I'll go again

Bankery is a fun place to grab a coffee and sweet treat! It's decorated in a really fun way, and the waiters are also dressed with the theme. The place can get quite loud, so it's not the idea place to work (unless you love loud places), but it's fun to sit and enjoy a coffee or chat with friends. The energy is lively, so it's not a quiet coffee shop. Also, smoking is allowed indoors, which is very typical in Greece.

What a fantastic meal. With a mostly attentive staff. About the only drawback is that the "inside" is really the inside and outside patio as one giant area that you can smoke cigarettes right beside a table in the non smoking area, that part sucked. However we will go back.

My American family of four that included an 11 and 13 year old was craving a big breakfast. We had been hanging out in Old Town every day and hadn't seen anything that would fit the bill. Then we saw photos on Trip Advisor and decided to give The Bankery a try. No, it's not The Bakery. It's Bankery because it used to be a bank, and still has the huge vaulted door downstairs!) It took awhile to get noticed by the wait staff once seated, but then they were so nice and so attentive! The kids had a lovely plate of eggs and bacon, and my husband and I shared the Variety Breakfast Platter for two. It was fabulous! A ton of food with a great selection of Cretan favorites and traditional American/ British choices. It was way too much for two so the kids shared and we brought the rest back to our villa. In addition, I had been craving some "American" style drip or filtered coffee. Couldn't find it anywhere. Here at Bankery I finally found it. Even better, it came in a great big glass mug that I could add all the creamer I wanted. I cried with delight I was so happy. I even ordered a second, it was so good. The manager and wait staff were very friendly and just couldn't do enough for us. We appreciated the free refills of cold clean bottled water as it was a hot day outside. In addition, the setting and decor was really hip and happening with good music. It would be a nice trendy bar if it were in Chicago. Yet there were lots of children present. The only thing that deterred from our enjoyment was that our table was surrounded by heavy smokers, but A) that is the culture, B) as Americans we're just not exposed to that anymore so it takes getting used to, and C) we were seated outside so that helped to dissipate the smoke. Lastly, the bill was incredibly reasonable for all the freshly squeezed juices and food that was ordered. All in all we had a great visit and we are so glad we stopped here.

Very cozy place with great food, coffee and drinks. Very polite staff and the appropriate place to study/work - since there is an abundant provision wall plugs and extremely fast internet.

A good choice for coffee and breakfast for two. Good location, right in the heart of Rethymnos. Although the service is quite friendly, they allow smoking in the cafe, which is quite annoying for the non smoking customers!!!!!!!!

Thank you for a wonderful dinner, starting with homemade garlic bread and sautéed mushrooms, followed by grilled chicken with crispy potatoes and mustard sauce. I had the sauce on the side, which was better, as the potatoes stayed crispy and I could have as much sauce as I wanted with my chicken. They offered us halva and a delicious liquor on the house. The service was 5 stars, with everyone very attentive and helpful. And the food was not only beautifully presented, but very delicious.

Really enjoyed our meal here. 10 of us but didn't phase them, food all brought out very efficiently. Would highly recommend getting dishes and sharing, purely so you can try more of their fabulous cuisine!

Fantastic food in the old town. Wonderful flavors. Nice wine selection. Excellent service. Classic street cafe atmosphere. The mushroom appetizer is delicious (definitely a 2 person app maybe more).

Accidently stumbled on this amazing restaurant. I was out hanging out in the old town and it was lunch hour. Had to eat something to fuel up. 😂From outside, it felt like a well organized restaurant, and I was not disappointed. Had the slow cooked lamb. With puree vegetables. The lamb was so tender, it felt like melting inside my mouth. And the puree had multiple flavors meshed in together. It was really tasty. The service was quite fast and professional. Even the owner came asking for feedback. They even have a good choice of music. Loved the vibe. Finally, like a cherry on top, I was offered a dessert on the house. Definitely looking forward for a second visit.

I had high hopes for Asíkiko, but unfortunately it was not as amazing as I expected. Overall food was adequate, but the main dish lemon pork was served a bit cold and the meat was quite dry (felt like it had been sitting on the counter for a while). Service felt rushed. Overall experience on an average level.

Asikiko – a very pleasant and modern restaurant in Rethymno. You can really feel that this is not just traditional Greek cuisine, but rather Cretan cuisine reimagined in a contemporary way — creative and aiming to surprise you. Atmosphere & service – the service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is wonderful (though keep in mind that people might smoke at nearby tables — but what do you expect from a southern country? Everyone smokes here and it’s generally accepted). About the food – we ordered the black risotto with shrimp, and it truly has a wow effect. We also had the moussaka, which was quite unusual (might not be to everyone’s taste), and the fish, which was nicely done and flavorful.

We have no words! We arrived at Rethymno after a long day of travelling and it was the 1st place we saw and thought to have our lunch. In the old city of Rethymno, we didn't expect too much but we have no words of how GOOD everything tasted. Kudos to the stuff preparing everything and of course to the waiters for the great service! We had the pasta with chicken and cheese, the sausage with "kimchi" cabbage (if you have tried original kimchi you will notice the difference since this one was like a pickled cabbage with something spicy) and if I'm not mistaken a paste of beans and mustard, the AMAZING dakos salad which was refreshing and tastefully, grilled cheese with jam and they bring you in the beginning warm bread with olive oil and tomato and in the end they bring you on the house some halve dessert which is light and delightful!

Picturesque little spot to sip cappuccino freddo and Greek cardamom coffee and enjoy the most wonderful hot and fresh loukoumades - Greek donuts with honey sauce.

Lovely place for a coffee. We came here in February when all the shops and cafes are quiet. The latte we had was very nice. The lady serving was very friendly and this is a lovely welcoming cafe with nice tables and chairs and plenty of seating just inside and outside. Will definitely return.

When I say this ice cream is a delight and food for the gods, when it contains Angels hair it really is! I chose the traditional dish based I ice-cream called Kantaifi which is creamy vanilla, almond, honey and Angels hair this is a delightful mix of crunchy and creamy and the angels hair is a bit like a really sweet shredded wheat without the taste of cardboard. The Ice cream Parlour is quite central in the old town right next to the water fountain. The service is cheerful and quick and the staff are really friendly, you can even have a taste of one of the 40 different flavours! There's even a few chairs to sit and relax outside, this was my second visit made better by the fact that the ice cream is made from goats milk so fabulous for those who have issues with milk. Would recommend any day of the week.

I came to this restaurant and offered to buy anything, as my toddler son desperately needed to use the restroom. The unfriendly owner said no, didn’t realize I spoke Greek and proceeded to tell me to “Get out” in Greek. Do not recommend based on service alone. Plus not everything is homemade.

They offer a variety of desserts based on loukoumades. We tried the traditional version with honey and walnuts: fresh dough, quality honey (not always the case in places serving loukoumades), and just the right balance of everything. A great spot!

Even though the loukoumades were supposedly freshly cooked most of them were very dry and very hard to chew. Of course we ate everything because it's loukoumades but they weren't too "fluffy" or something. Maybe it's the type

Excellent gelato, I tried the lemon, and mango (more of a sorbet), both had great flavour and texture. Not many options compared to other gelato places nearby, but 1 of the best we tried in the town

Don't be tempted with all the ice cream in the area. This is the best ice cream you will ever eat! Creamy, smooth, so tasty! Best ice cream ever. And the workers are soooo nice! No wonder it's still standing from 1950!

Never had the sheep milk ice cream before. It’s wonderful and creamy. Better than even cow’s milk. Had the parfait and chocolate. They also have a pasty shop. Go get some!

The most typical and traditional confectionery of Rethymno (since 1950). You must try the galaktompoureko (Greek custard pie) which is probably the best you can get in the whole country. Not to be missed are the kantaifi, baklava and vieneza (a local speciality) sweets. Ice cream is also really delicious and is made of local sheep milk. The place is mainly to take away and there are a few tables. You must pass by this place if you are in Rethymno, it is a delicious time travel to Cretan confectionery.

This is a nice cake shop. I tried a few of their products.. all good. Especially love the mini tart with jams on top.. nomnomnom.. Chocolate cake was quite ok, it feels like dark chocolate digestives in a cake version. Lol The “galaktoboureko” (sth like that lol) was great! Friendly owner :))

We went there for breakfast and coffee. I really enjoyed that it had TV screens showing football matches. It's an accessible place with very kind staff!

Really nice place in terms of view and location and vibe. But food was absolutely not worth its price. The bread with tomato and cheese was basically stone hard with watery tomato goosh and the portions were a joke. Nothing wrong with the coffee but not worth the price. The waiters felt very amateurish and didnt even say anything to us when we came in.

Honestly, one of the top restaurants in Rethimno. Great food with a wide variaty, nice staff and fair prices. The establishment is very modern with a panoramic vieuw at the sea!

A very nice restaurant with a great athmosphere. We ordered chicken nuggets and a cheeseburger. The fries were very strangely seasoned but very good. I personally liked that they put a lemon in my glass when I ordered a coke. Nice portions and very affordable.

I cannot comment on food as they never came to take our order. First waitress left the menu and never came back to take orders. I wave other 2 waitresses they said ok but they also didn’t come. We had to leave basically.

We visited this patisserie almost every day during our holiday and especially enjoyed the small ice cream and the cheesecake. Both were outstanding, and we can only highly recommend this place!

Exceptional desserts, nice environment and friendly service. The Profiterole was delicious and not too sweet, exactly as I like it. The Vanille with caramelized almonds was creamy and crunchy! We liked it and we recommend it!

Less then 2 hours ago I've bought few chocolate cakes, take away for our hotel room, from the first patisserie I came across in Rethymno, Skartsilakis Patisserie, after an exhausting excursion to Santorini. Before coming in my holiday to Crete I asked my Greek work colleagues if they normally do good chocolate cookies in Greece/Crete and they said not really but they told me they do a lot of other very good sort of food. I can say Skartsilakis Patisserie is a place which brings back the childhood emotions. The cookies bought from there were so delicious. We'll come back to this patisserie in our next visit to Rethymno to try other products too, as we have another few days left from our holiday in Crete. Sorry for not taken any pictures to post it!

Such a lovely spot! Absolutely the best pistachio Basque cheese cake I ever had. Tastes like real pistachio. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the desserts were absolutely delicious. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. It’s the perfect place to relax, enjoy a sweet treat, and spend time with friends. I’ll definitely be coming back for more!

We tried the lemon and had a cup of the pistachio. The pistachio had chunks of pistachio chocolate in it and was absolutely gorgeous. We were sorry we found it so late in the holiday as I could have happily eaten that every day!

Great gelato place also serving good coffee and nice looking cakes. Menu in photos includes gelato smoothies but not tried these. Love the gelato here especially the bitter chocolate non-dairy. Perfect bitter chocolate taste and still smooth and creamy. One of my favourites in Greece. My husband has had a coffee each time I’ve sampled an ice-cream and found them good. Last year when we visited I tried one of their energy bars and these are really tasty.

Fabulous shop. Wonderful atmosphere with such an exciting array of interesting goods on offer. Lots of hers doctors and natural produce in addition to many delicious high quality treats. Bought an assortment of nuts and sweets there including amaxing pistachio balls for my husband's to take to chemo. Really wish we'd bought a whole lot more now as they've run out and are very missed. Fabulously helpful staff in a beautiful shop. I could spend hours there

Follow up: Go on a Sunday morning, when the dough balls are coming out fresh. They are divine. Do not miss. Order them with cinnamon, honey, and sesame seeds or nuts. This family run store has been in exists for decades. They built their reputation on a Greek treat ‘Loucomades’. I have eaten them for 40 years and today was the first time I’ve ever been dissatisfied. The fried dough balls were cake like rather than light and crispy and were covered in honey, sesame, and cinnamon. Maybe someone lost the family recipe??? I hope they were just having a bad day. Ask for fresh fried. The cafe Freddo I had was reallly good, but almost 4 euros. A bit on the pricy side of gourmet coffee in Rethymno

Delicious yogurt with a wide selection of e toppings. We have had both the classic and biscuit flavors, really enjoyed it!

I’m not a fan of the Greek “Italian gelato“ but I love their yogurt. This place is delicious. Got the plain Greek frozen yogurt with dark chocolate chips, and walnuts. They have every imaginable topping from nuts to different kinds of chocolate to various fruit. Plus a few nice tables in the shade. Highly recommend.

Great Coffee. I am lactose intolerant and love my coffee as a Soy Latte. This is my everyday visit when in Rethymno. Best Soy Latte in Europe so far. Right temperature and quality milk. A busy favourite for frozen Greek yogurt. However, also catering for us lactose types with delicious local home made sheep milk ice cream and sorbets. They also have granita which are also vegan. Service with a friendly smile.

Its the best place to eat Frozen Yoghurt and ice cream all around Crete. Very delicious, fresh and with a great variety of toppings including fresh fruit. The owner is always very nice and welcoming. We have been coming to Rethymno for years especially for this frozen yoghurt and will come again next year. See you :)

You can actually taste the difference of frozen Greek Yogurt and any other frozen yogurt spot you’ve had. Soooo good! Right in front of the fountain too to enjoy your dessert in the shade!

Amazing service through our short visit to get ice cream. The staff was much more friendly and welcoming than the other resturants we have been to. Nice cream like any other ice cream but could have had wished for lower price per scoop ( 2€ )

Very disappointed. We were charged 10€ for the sunbed although we left after 15 min. The young lady responsible for the beach service failed to tell us that if overpassing 10 minutes we have to pay the charge for the entire day. Definitely I will not recommend to anyone neither will get back there.

The young girl responsible for the beach service told us we have to pay for the sunbeds (10 euros) and we have to pay for everything else we are ordering. A lot of other beaches offer free sunbeds if you are ordering drinks or food. We ended up staying because my boyfriend had a problem with his foot and he had to seat down. We left after 15 minutes as he didn't feel okay and she still charged us 10 euros without giving us any receipt.BEWARE!! ZERO customer service, so zero stars. We paid for something we did not use (the young girl failed to tell us at the beginning that when overpassing 10 min we have to pay the 10 euros) For us were the most expensive sunbeds we paid for. NOT GETTING BACK THERE FOR SURE NEITHER WOULD RECOMMEND THE PLACE TO ANYBODY.

Bought two ice-creams, both tasted like the lowest quality ice-creams they could find to sell. Pistachio with fake green coloring and no real pistachio flavour. The staff was very welcoming on the other hand. But I would never buy ice cream from here even if they pay for my holiday.

We had a waffle and a Crêpe at this place. The waffle was great, you can customize it with the sauces and toppings you want. The crêpe was only okay because its consistency was weird somehow but still tasty with the Nutella. We wanted to have it takeaway but they lured us in to sit down because it would be “much more comfortable”. They insisted and we gave in only to find out they put a service charge on the bill.

The milkshakes and service are Cremeria Vienna in Rethymno, Crete was excellent, very tasty and friendly staff. The toilets were the cleanest around as well. We would highly recommend here.

Cremeria Vienna Rethymno is an absolutely amazing ice cream shop. Located just by the Rethymno Beach, it's a great spot to cool down from the Cretan sun and is very tasty.

One of the best icecreams I have ever tasted. We found this place on our first day of the trip. We went there everyday after that. The icecream is very tasty and creamy. Portions are big and well priced. I highly recommend this place. Personal favorite flavours are pistachio and strawberry.

Awesome ice-cream. All my life before i hate chocolate ice-cream, but here i got absolutely new experience. It has taste of real dark chocolate! Ate a lot during my vacation. Other tastes are also very yammy for me (not all, but still). Owners are a family. And daughter is a lovely nice looking lady. My all best wishes for them.

We stumbled upon this cute authentic little workshop and had the best baklavas of our lives. Had to go back 30 minutes later to get some more. The owner was so gentle and friendly, too bad we couldn’t participate in a workshop because of our flight.

The «Handmade Traditional Philo Workshop» is a family business that has been making the very elaborate baklava in a traditional way and under the eyes of the visitors since 1960. We happened to pass this beautiful bakery when we were walking through the old center of Rethymnon. The door was open, we saw two men at work and we walked in. Here you also have to buy the delicious, sweet baklava as a tourist and eat it later at home, in the hotel, or in your holiday apartment. If you search a bit on the internet, you will find a nice short documentary of over 7 minutes in which the making process of the filo pastry in this shop is filmed and explained. The owner Giorgos Hatziparaskos and his son Paraskevas proudly show their handiwork in the short documentary. I am afraid that this kind of small-scale crafts will disappear more and more. But before that happens, come and see and taste this. It is heartwarming to see and also incredibly delicious to eat.

I had a great experience here. The best Baklava I've ever eaten. The service was perfect. This was a real treat for me. Did my research before I went and watched many videos of this bakery, so it was a real bucket list check off for me. Bakery is world famous! The owner was really nice. Didn't know what to expect because of some of the negative reviews. This was a very positive experience for me. Definitely recommend this stop to everyone who loves homemade filo pastry. Currently, they make filo on Mondays, so you can watch it being made then. Impressive!

When I saw that they roll out thin dough, I thought that they were making real baklava and I was looking forward to going to this shop, but I was disappointed. So I want to convey my opinion objectively. 1- The baklava dough is very thin and more crispy than normal baklava. It was cooked until brown. 2-baklava and kadayıf left too much syrup. I feel like I bought more syrup. 3-I tasted only syrup in baklava and kadayif. If you want to buy dessert with syrup, yes it is delicious.

We stumbled upon this amazing bakery this morning by chance and so happy we did. Owner was very nice and friendly. Told us croissants were fresh out of the oven and was so accommodating with us and our kids in deciding what we wanted to eat. We chose chocolate and plain croissants, two donuts and two coffee. Everything was perfect!! Thank you for letting us know about the fresh croissants. They were so good. Coffee was also the best I've had so far. We went back in the afternoon for baklava and more treats. Baklava was also the best we've had in Crete so far!! Thank you.

On arrival there was only one other occupied table in this cafe, however we had to wait over half an our for our sandwiches to arrive. even then only four of our family of 6 were served. The remaining 2 had to wait a further 10 minutes and we’re told to be patient. I ordered a simple chicken baguette, however it had been shoved into a panini machine and was hot and flat not light and fresh.It had been cut in half and each half duly skewered together. The first half was reasonably filled while the other was void of any chicken at all. Also the waiting staff should be encouraged to wear deodorant. To end on a positive note, the establishment was clean bright and well set out. Also the toilets were in extremely good order being very clean and modern.
