Book Store Dominicanen, situated in Maastricht, the Netherlands, is a captivating literary destination set within a medieval church dating back to the 13th century. This unique indie bookstore offers an array of Dutch and English titles across various genres and international selections. The stunning architecture of the former Dominican church provides a serene ambiance for book lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
Walking into Dominicanen feels like entering a literary sanctuary. The moment you step inside this former church, you're struck by the incredible atmosphere - centuries-old stone walls, soaring Gothic arches, and thousands of books creating the most inspiring environment for book lovers. I spent hours here just wandering through the different sections, each level offering new perspectives of this architectural marvel. The café is perfect for settling in with a new purchase and soaking in the unique ambiance. What impressed me most was how they've managed to create a fully functional modern bookstore while maintaining the sacred, contemplative feeling of the original space. The staff clearly takes pride in this special place. Whether you buy anything or not, this bookstore offers an experience unlike anywhere else in the world. Pure magic for anyone who loves books, history, or beautiful spaces.

Walking into Bookstore Dominicanen feels like stepping into a dream. The building itself is breathtaking—a stunning blend of history and books that makes you want to slow down and soak it all in. The selection is incredible, from bestsellers to hidden gems, and the atmosphere is pure magic. Whether you’re a book lover or just love beautiful spaces, this is an absolute must-visit in Maastricht. 📚✨

It amazing how the Dutch people repurposed their old church and became a such beautiful bookstore. The title of most beautiful bookstore in the world is second to none! The old church Become a bookstore is much better some of the other churches became a bar and restaurant or some became an apartments if you asked me! You can slap have a cup of coffee or something in the back of the bookstore to admire the old church of the bookstore or the book you just purchased!

Absolutely stunning bookstore inside a historic church. The architecture is breathtaking, the books are well-curated, and the little café adds a cozy touch. A must-visit for book lovers and anyone who appreciates history and design. The most impressive detail was that the figures on the ground were grave lids(ledger stones).
Özgür D — Google review
Boekhandel Dominicanen is truly one of the most beautiful bookstores I have ever visited. Located inside a stunning former church, it offers a magical atmosphere enhanced by colorful lighting that makes the place even more captivating. The book selection is broad and well curated. However, it can get very crowded at times, especially on weekends, likely because many tourists come just to look around, so going up the stairs can feel quite packed and a bit uncomfortable.
Dwi F — Google review
AMAZINNNGGG PLACEEE UGHHHH!! Booksa + nice architecture / interior = perfect combo!!!!! I would spend hours here just taking picture videos while reading some books <3 the collection is also quite complete with a lot of english books 📚 they have also a lot of stationary and souvenirs <3
Mahira P — Google review
Such an amazing place!! It was my first time visiting bookstore that used to be a church. There are murals on the dome and beautiful, calm marble details near the bookshelves. Even though I didn’t find a book I wanted, just sitting in the cafe with a coffee and soaking in the atmosphere was a joy in itself. The café takes last orders at 5:45 PM. It looks like they only serve non-alcoholic drinks at the moment, it’d be perfect if they offer a glass of 🥂 too!
T Z — Google review
Still a bit of an awkward and mix feeling when visiting the bookstore, for sure this IS certainly very intriguing and curiosity prone Quite a success if we count the number of "tourisiting" visitors, hence impacting and a bit contradicting to what usually would be quieter, less frequented book stores Still very intereting setting with the core architectural blend and shelving of books and other amenities Beware of the crowd.

The shopping mall Entre Deux is a great place to visit if you're looking for stylish fashion stores, a brasserie, and a bookstore all in one place. The atmosphere is very modern and the staff are very friendly and polite.
Very welcome sheltered shopping area in the middle of busy Maastricht. The “enclosure” is little more than a glass roof stretched over a narrow shopping street, rather than a true indoor mall, but it suits the neighborhood best as it is. Don’t miss the bookstore in the former church!
Tim R — Google review
It's not your typical shopping centre. It's more like a covered arcade, with a glass roof. It's not particularly big, but it has an interesting selection of shops, including some chain shops. It's also a useful place to go for shelter if it's raining!
Tintin — Google review
There is no good shopping experience if you can't even go to the toilet while you are doing your purchases. Never seen before in a mall that they don't have toilets for their guests, unbelievable. I can understand they don't want everybody using their toilets but they could just make it that in order to use them, you need to present a ticket from any of the shops. There are many acceptable options before not having bathrooms at all.

Nice shops, good range of choices and helpful staff. Cafes were quick with service and portions were good. Street surfaces include cobbles so high heels not recommended. Interesting mix of shops.

Aside from the zara the selection of stores feels sort of random and for those who appreciate fashion we can agree that those brands are kind of no go areas other than that I do love the architecture of the mall and it has a roof which is great for the Dutch weather

I am traveling from overseas and it says my tickets will not be ready for delivery until the night of the concert. This is completely unacceptable as we don't have any advanced notice or time to make any arrangements for travel except to go there and hope to find tickets somewhere at the venue in The Netherlands. How do you make plans? Do you wait until you are out of gas before you begin to search for a gas station. Please be a bit more proactive, don't make me wait until the opening concert performance to then begin to find my seats. I would like to have someone respond to this dilemma of procrastination on the part of this merchant. Do I get dressed at the entrance of the event or should I not even buy an ensemble until I get to my seat and then get dressed? unfortunately I paid $600 USD already for a July 2025 performance. So it take 6 months to arrange a ticket delivery, are they arriving by an ancient Roman messenger on foot to the USA. Be reasonable, I am being reasonable by purchasing tickets 6 months in advance. You should be able to consider my needs to plan a complete travel event including a hotel stay a Mediterranean cruise and some stops in Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Germany, Austria, and The Netherlands. Tickets on the same day as the event, completely unacceptable and a unnecessary standard of practice.

The theater was so so nice, the interior looks stunning and it's right at the main square of Maastricht. I'm luckily secure a seat at the Maastricht Debate that got hosted here, didn't take many picture but the place sure was stunning!

Located in the heart of Vrijthof Square, Theater aan het Vrijthof offers a perfect mix of history, charm, and top-tier performances. Whether it’s a play, concert, or musical, the venue’s cozy atmosphere, excellent acoustics, and friendly staff make every visit memorable. My grandma and my mum attended several events that are highly recommended as in André Rieu’s annual concerts, with art exhibits and Nathalia Milstein. The bar is great for a quick intermission drink, and the surrounding restaurants make it easy to extend your night out. For an unforgettable cultural experience in Maastricht, this theater is unbeatable!

Shopping mall
Mosae Forum is a lively area that seamlessly blends modern and historic architecture, offering an array of shops, restaurants, and grocery markets. The shopping center hosts various musical performances and surprise concerts throughout the city center. It features well-known chain stores like H&M and Sissy Boy, making it a convenient spot for shopping in Maastricht. Additionally, visitors can easily access the market and other attractions within walking distance from Mosae Forum.
A shopping center in the center of Maastricht. Great location, with parking right underneath. A great place for shopping, strolling, or meeting friends at a cafe.
Oleh B — Google review
It’s a decent shopping mall—if you can really call it that. The location is super central, but the opening hours of the jumbo here feel surprisingly short for such a prime spot. That said, there are a few gems inside: the Asian market downstairs is fantastic, and Grenze is great for stumbling upon random, quirky finds. However, the new and spacious Kruidvat is a bit of a letdown. You’d think a bigger store would mean better stock, but it often doesn’t have the items you’d expect to find, which you can easily grab at the smaller city-center locations. Overall, it’s worth a visit for specific spots, but don’t set your expectations too high. city!
Floww — Google review
Like many of the buildings in Maastricht, this is yet another unique one. It's pretty small and it's not exactly a shopping centre in the normal sense, but it is an interesting building and has a good selection of shops, both major chain shops and independent shops. It's right in the main part of the city centre, so definitely worth visiting if you're in the area.
Tintin — Google review
The stores are great and quite substantial. The setting and design of this location is a cultural offense. It should be far more sophisticated because of its river Location and the municipality should do a better job to satisfy the thousands of tourists from Germany and across Europe. This used to be important historically for many reasons. It would be great if Leiden took over the Maastricht jurisdiction. Leiden staff and security have a true Dutch love of cultural and economic vibrancy that makes tourists, residents and students invest in many cherished memories. They also offer much safety and appeal that Mosae forum deserves.
F.H. C — Google review
Nice Asian store with a big selection. Also convenient " 1 Euro" store. This store is selling random items very affordable, like cleaning supply and drug store articles, snacks and so on.

If you get rid of the human trash dealing drugs on every corner and harassing the people just trying to get on with their day, maybe people will excuse the bad architecture, the scandalous prices and the lack of toilets. Avoid this place.

The Basilica of Our Lady, also known as Slevrouwe, is a Romanesque Catholic church located in Maastricht. It was primarily built in the 11th and 12th centuries on the site of an earlier religious building dating back to the 5th century AD. The basilica features stained-glass windows and is a fine example of Mosan architecture.
The Basilica of Our Lady in Maastricht is one of those places that quietly stays with you. Stepping through its heavy Romanesque doors, I felt like I had entered a sanctuary carved out of time itself. The dim light, the scent of candles, and the silence inside the Star of the Sea chapel create a sense of peace that’s almost sacred. It’s not flashy or overwhelming—it’s intimate, timeless, and deeply moving. A quiet corner of the city where history and faith still breathe.

The Basilica of our Lady is a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. It’s one of the oldest churches in the Netherlands and has amazing architecture. The inside is quiet and full of history, with high ceilings, colorful windows, and old religious items.
Lelanie D — Google review
A beacon of faith in Maastricht's historic center, the Basilica of Our Lady ⛪ is a magnificent example of Mosan-Romanesque architecture. Built in the 11th and 12th centuries, its formidable, fortress-like westwork was designed for defense as well as worship. Known locally as Slevrouwe (Star of the Sea), the basilica has been a significant pilgrimage site for centuries, revered for its 15th-century statue of the Virgin Mary. The dark, contemplative interior, with its ancient crypt and valuable treasury, offers a powerful glimpse into the city's deep religious and cultural heritage. The Basilica of Our Lady is a true cornerstone of Maastricht, embodying centuries of history and devotion.

The Basilica of Our Lady in Maastricht is a beautiful old church with a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Many visitors light candles and admire the statue of Our Lady Star of the Sea. The crypts and artwork show its long history, and it’s a quiet place to relax and reflect. It is both a spiritual and historical landmark in the city.

Sint Servaasbrug, also known as the St. Servatius Bridge, is a 13th-century arched stone footbridge that spans the river Meuse in Maastricht, Netherlands. Despite being largely reconstructed after World War II, it is considered the oldest bridge in the country and holds historical significance. The bridge connects pedestrian traffic from the Binnenstad district to the Wyck district and offers picturesque views of both areas.
Such a vivid place! The bridge is surrounded by bars, restaurants, and shops in both of the ends!

The Sint Servaasbrug in Maastricht is an iconic symbol of the city's rich history and architectural beauty. Emma G — Google review
I am no drinker by any stretch of the imagination and never go out drinking in the UK because basically - pubs - which ones are left because a lot of them are closing down, are not the most inviting of places, especially if you are not a local. They can be quite hostile if you are not a local but when walking past Zondag one night during my stay in Maastricht. I saw happy people having a nice time on the outside tables. So, I thought I would take a chance and I ventured inside to have a beer. The bar was staffed by three friendly guys, service was swift and the beer was good. My beer was actually served in an old fashioned British pint glass with a handle - something I hadn't seen for at least 30 years in a British pub. So, I was taken to my environs immediately. So, when it came to payment. Their card reader wouldn't take my card and the friendly barman shrugged and said cheerfully 'We have problems with British debit cards unfortunately' and I said 'well, I have a Chinese debit card, let's try that!' which made him laugh, it made me laugh too as it had less chance of working than my British card but actually, the Chinese debit card kind of works OK in the Netherlands but it is a bit more hit-and-miss than my British bank card as you can imagine (for the record - we tried the Chinese debit card - it didn't work!). The way the bar staff at Zondag dealt with this problem and the solutions they offered impressed me so much that I am on here writing about it and am happy to give them full marks for their service, friendliness and understanding. Thankfully, my British debit card started motoring on the second attempt and I managed to pay for my drinks. What would have happened in the UK if that happened? Maybe death, dirty looks, comments about my dearly missed, deceased mother? More than likely! The chilled out response from my friends in Zondag? Doubtful! So, full marks to all staff at Zondag! Thank you for your understanding and may you have many more happy evenings with your wonderful patrons.
Carlos W — Google review
A nice place to grab a drink and a bite to eat. I really appreciate their wide selection of non-alcoholic drinks - it's not your usual Coke & Sprite. Their kombucha is especially tasty (really sour). The food is also pretty decent, I tried the tortilla de patatas - it was nice but a bit bland and cold. The only thing that really bothers me is their service. I went several times and they barely come to your table once. After that they never come back, even if they are not busy at all. It seems that they do not really care about the customers, which I find annoying. If it weren't for their bad service, the place itself deserves 5 stars. Unfortunately, it ruins the whole experience, so if you don't mind, give it a try.

I recently visited my favorite café, as I always do when I crave a good cup of coffee. They make the best coffee in Maastricht and although I don’t usually drink coffee, when I do, I come here. As usual, I ordered my favorite cappuccino and a piece of cake. While I was waiting, the person behind me in line turned out to be an employee of the café who was visiting her colleagues on her day off. She pointed out to the barista that she had forgotten to place a saucer under my cappuccino and without hesitation, started helping her. I wouldn’t have minded this at all, but what happened next shocked me. Without washing her hands or wearing gloves, she picked up the small biscuit that came with my coffee and moved it to a different saucer—using her bare hands. This completely disgusted me. She had just come in from outside, touching who knows what, and then she handled food meant for a customer. I was so shocked and uncomfortable that I couldn’t eat the biscuit. Generally, the staff isn’t the friendliest, but they do maintain cleanliness. The cakes are always neatly arranged, and the café itself is clean and well-kept. Besides making great coffee, they also serve delicious cakes, which I always enjoy. Despite this unpleasant incident, I’ll continue coming back for my favorite coffee and cakes because they truly are some of the best in town. I just hope they pay more attention to hygiene in the future.

The ambience is great and the food is delicious. However, some points could surely be improved. First, during reservation I indicated that one person does not eat meat. As appetizer we got sliced sausage, nothing else. Not really prepared I wonder? We had reserved at 17.30 but the restaurant first opened at 17.45, a little bit more respect for the customer perhaps? When examining the wine chart, the owner disappeared and the waitress first asked us just before the main course which wine we wanted. A little late perhaps? The food is really good but the greens with the first course where prepared without love and the carrots of the main course were quite uncooked and hard to cut with a knife. The dessert was also in need of some TLC. Price wise it is fine, the courses are very well priced, some wines are however quite expensive when compared to market prices. As said earlier, the food is really good and it was a great experience but it could be excellent when paying attention to some details and some more TLC.

I am currently visiting Maastricht from Den Haag and have just had the 5-course Christmas Day menu at Bouchon d’en Face. It was such a lovely experience and it was nicely decorated for Christmas, with Christmas music playing. I had the pescatarian option, as I do not eat meat and the chef did a fabulous job with making these changes for me. All 5 courses were so tasty and the wine and champagne were great too. I also wanted to say a big ‘thank you’ to the staff; I was dining alone, and they all made me feel comfortable and were attentive to me. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Maastricht.

We visited Bouchon D'en Face with our staff party and had our menus all sorted our. Great job on handling such a massive group so well. I enjoyed my stay (I'm sure we all did) and the food we got served. I had the steak tartare and the codfish as the fish of the day. I hope to visit the restaurant again in my own time with my partner.

Italian restaurant
Store
Vino&Friends offers a delightful experience for wine enthusiasts and those who appreciate the Italian way of life. The restaurant, owned by Fabian Wijering and Bas Lenoire, presents a carefully curated selection of wines accompanied by classic antipasti, homemade pastas, and delicious secondi. With a different three- or four-course menu each month highlighting various Italian regions, guests can embark on a sensory journey in an inviting atmosphere.
The service is probably the friendliest around Maastricht. The entire place is nicely decorated and the winter garden provides great light throughout the day. We took the 3 course menu which starts with a selection of appetizers. We had both the bream and the tagliata as main and we can only recommend both. Finally the dessert offered a cheese platter or homemade ice cream. Thumbs up for both again.

We recently visited a solid Italian restaurant in Maastricht and overall had a pleasant experience. The food was good – nothing groundbreaking, but definitely delicious and well-prepared. Each course offered a nice variation, from antipasti to dessert, which kept the meal interesting. However, the portion sizes were a bit on the small side. That said, the service was excellent. The staff was attentive, friendly, and recognized details without needing to be asked, which added a lot to the dining experience. Their professionalism and warm attitude really made us feel welcome. It's a good spot if you're looking for a cozy atmosphere and solid Italian cuisine with great service.
Alexander S — Google review
Food 3 | Service 5 | Atmosphere 4 Food is mediocre, nothing special or impressive. The dessert is particularly nice though. The beef is a bit over cooked and rough. The ravioli is a rather bland. The time between courses are very long, we spent about 3.5 hours to finish a 4 courses meal!!! Service is great! The servers are attentive and friendly. Atmosphere is rather nice, love the skylight in the sitting area!
James L — Google review
From the moment you walk in you feel the Italian generiosity. The staff speaks Italian amongst each other, joking and bantering, adding to the atmosphere. We chose the 5 course "surprise" edition, after ticking off some dietary/allergen questions (none in our case). Portion size was good for each serving and packed with flavour. Overall the food is of high quality and cooked wel. The recommended winepairing (from the affordable subset of the extensive winelist) matched perfectly with the flavours on the plate and our own preference. We spend our entire evening there, with a decent (slow) pacing of courses. You need to make a downpayment upon making a reservation; about 15€/pp; which is settled with the bill.

Nice little Italian restaurant The antipasti were the nicest : would litteraly only take only that in bigger. Pasta were nice but simple Meat was OK Service a bit too slow : 3hr for a 4 course meal Price : not democratic: 90€/pp with 1 bottle of whine and 1 Aperol Spritz

Best Italian restaurant in Maastricht (and probably NL). Superb staff with a very good knowledge on the amazing collection of wines. Food was incredible. Do try the TAGLIATA DI MANZO CLASSICA (Mibrasa grill)! Atmosphere was great! A-location in city center of Maastricht. Highly recommended!
Titus V — Google review
Was very looking forward in trying out this place due its good rating. Service is excellent & the vibe is nice. However, the food is overrated. Taste is OK like any regular Italian place, nothing special. In my opinion, the price vs portion for antipasta is way overpriced. For the steak, unfortunate only from 1kg order.
Blossom — Google review
Food was great, just the steak was missing flavour. Service was very good. Have some interesting wines and cold cut meat. The design of the restaurant is very nice. Just one thing, we were sitting at the back in the corner of 2 big windows and it was cold there, seems to be some draft. Could not spoil the evening though, will return.

Great experience in a very warm day. Cozy and quiet lunch. Maybe the kitchen can concentrate a bit more on the presentation of the food, but everything was very tasty. Thanks also for the nice compliment :)

disssgustingggg is an understatement for this restraunt. we went with high hopes but left disgusted! food was tragic. taste was off. salad looked as if my nephew was doing an experiment with everything that was left in the pantry. just when we thought that it couldnt get any worse, we got served raw chicken that was clearly pink and undercooked. we addressed the matter immediately, and expected apologies and the matter to be taken seriously. however to our suprise, the waiter who appeared to be a male, had excused this tragedy, claiming that "the chicken is slow cooked", leaving us absolutely stunned with his alarming level of confidence . to the best of our knowledge, we know that properly slowcooked chicken should be fully cooked through, tender and safe to eat! we immediately told the waiter that the state the chicken came in was a "serious health threat" - the last thing we would want on a holiday is salmonella. and he said he'd tell the chef. after coming back again, he once again excused and insisted on this nonsense statement, saying its how its supposed to be due to the cooking method. raw chicken is never how "its supposed to be"

Had a very nice lunch here, I took the 4 menu courses. Unfortunately it was not arranged with starter-main-dessert style, but more like pick any dishes you want, but the dishes are really good, super tasty and strong flavour. The cocktails also very nice. However got a mixed feeling when the wifi is not working at all in where I was seated, I was having LDR anniversary, luckily I had hotspot, we were struggling a bit, but nevertheless the experience and the lunch overall are perfect. The staff are kinda kind, but they are professional 🙌🏻 I got a special dessert cake for my anniversary, and I really appreciate that. Thanks!

Makes sense why everyone loves this place in Maastricht. Food is delicious. Waiters are a bit aggressive by folding the napkins when you stand up, and sometimes felt like they were rushing us compared to older not-student-looking people. The experience was still good.

It is one of the oldest parks in the Netherlands and offers beautiful water views, fountains, and playgrounds. The park extends along the Maas River and towards the southern city wall, providing a peaceful escape from the bustling main shopping area.
Stadspark in Maastricht is wonderful! The park is big and full of green trees and pretty flowers. We went for a walk, and it felt so peaceful. There's a nice pond with loads of ducks in it. We saw people having picnics and even some events. It's a great place to relax and enjoy nature. We loved it and will visit again.

One of places in Maastricht to chill during the summer. So many people there chilling under the sun and with their mattress on the grass. Some also doing bbq there
Wiby P — Google review
Amazing, it was full when I arrivedso I sat under the tree 🤣 it's really clean and neat, full of tourists and also with an amazing bridge which leads to the center on the other side. The park also has some historical stories and explanations which you can visit and hear as well there, see the cannons, the old church. Also they have small river flowing through the park, it is veery, bery clean and fresh looking, perfect for a small break. Many people are also having picnic under the trees, you have ice cream stand and many, many local shops and restaurants immediately at the exit of the park, it'snear the old town, like 5 minutes walking only, even less.

The Helpoort is a well-preserved 13th-century gate that was part of the medieval city walls in Maastricht. It is also known as Jekerpoort, Hoogbruggepoort, Alde Poort op den Ancker, Kruittorenpoort or De Twee Torens.
It is a nice historical port from really old times. Going inside was just an amazing experience, not for port itself, but because of the people that explains you the full history of the place! I learned a lot about Maastricht and history of The Netherlands! I was really impressed by that!
Rodrigo M — Google review
Helpoort – A Timeless Guardian of Maastricht Nestled in the charming Jekerkwartier district, Helpoort is not just a gate — it’s a living fragment of Maastricht’s medieval soul. Built in 1229, it is the oldest surviving city gate in the Netherlands, and the only remaining part of Maastricht’s first city wall. Originally called Hoogbruggepoort, it played a key role in the city’s defense until the 15th century. After losing its military function, the gate was repurposed over the centuries — from a meeting place for cloth workers to a gunpowder store, prison, and even a private residence. Its rich and varied history is a testament to its resilience. Architecturally, Helpoort is striking: two semi-circular towers in stone connected by a central archway. It has been restored several times, most notably in 1881, preserving its medieval character while making it accessible to the public. Today, Helpoort houses the Vestingmuseum Maastricht, a museum dedicated to the city’s fortification history. Visitors can learn about Maastricht’s military past, walk through the old walls, and immerse themselves in the strategic heart of a once-fortified city. While small in size, Helpoort is monumental in significance. A visit here feels like stepping through time — a must-see for history lovers and curious wanderers alike.

We had a great experience in this museum. The guide, Ron, was very knowledgeable about the history of Maastricht and the Helpoort. Made the experience worth the trip considering the relatively small museum. Highly recommend!

What a great place to visit. FABULOUS photo ops!! If you walk through the gates, just off to the right is a little doorway-takes you up into the tower and a small museum. The 2 gentleman there are quite informative!! Great find!!!!

A small museum located on the second level. The entrance is on the right behind the gate house. Entrance fees applies €3 each. The museum is small with limited artefacts on display. But nonetheless interesting. The steps up the museum is narrow and do be cautious when ascending the steps.

De Bisschopsmolen is a historic watermill located just a short walk from the city center, along the Jeker River. Guided tours of the mill are also available for those interested in learning about its millennium-old flour production process.
Must visit. The coffee, sandwiches, people, atmosphere ... Everything is amazing here. Even the locality is right out of an 80s postcard. But, reserve a table. The place is extremely crowded and everyone wants to eat here.

Visited couple times and i won’t be lying when i said: reserve before coming (if possible) because the place is small yet everyone wants to eat vlaai here. Other pastries also available (broodjeworst, also a favorite from this place). Recommended to pack some pieces home for your loved ones because you haven’t visited maastricht without vlaai from their place.
Adinda — Google review
Tucked away in the heart of Maastricht, Bisschopsmolen is a charming bakery that combines local tradition with warm hospitality. Known for its freshly baked sourdough bread, pies, and cookies, the bakery stands out for the remarkable freshness of its products. Pies are baked throughout the day, ensuring that each slice tastes as if it just came out of the oven. Next to the bakery, the inviting cafeteria offers a wide selection of pie slices, sandwiches, and beverages. During multiple visits, I had the pleasure of trying both vegan pies and vegan sandwiches, each one consistently delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The staff are not only knowledgeable about their products but also genuinely helpful and accommodating, which enhances the overall experience. Bisschopsmolen is undeniably popular, so expect a lively and bustling atmosphere. Seating can be limited, but the tradition of table sharing adds to the friendly and communal feel. Just ask politely and you’ll likely find a spot. What makes this place even more special is its setting. Adjacent to and behind the cafeteria lies the Wasserrad, a beautifully preserved watermill that underscores the historical charm of the location. It’s well worth taking a moment to explore. Verdict: Bisschopsmolen is more than a bakery. It’s an authentic Maastricht experience. Come for the pies, stay for the atmosphere, and don’t miss the watermill.

Le Fernand is a charming French bistro located in Maastricht, at the Stenenbrug. Run by Fernand, it offers traditional French dishes like confit de canard and cuisses de grenouilles, along with a great selection of wines. The cozy atmosphere makes it a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The restaurant's small size adds to its intimate ambiance, making it feel like you've been transported to France.
Had such a great experience at this place! The food was amazing and the restaurant is super cozy I really recommend the tuna Although I came with my family, I would say it’s a super nice place for dinner dates :)

We pretty much liked everything about this place. Food was delicious and fairly priced, service was very nice, and the atmosphere is more french than most restaurants we've been to in France. Will come again.
Georg M — Google review
Je ne regrette rien by Edith Piaf was playing in the background. I didn't regret anything at Le Fernand : friendly waiters, good quality food, short waiting times. And above all, a great selection of wines. I had the oysters as appetizer. The grilled tuna as a main. Comes with bread and olive tapenade. Classic style and familiar. But very well executed. Cook looks still young but did well. The only disadvantage : there's a pie bakery shop opposite, window shelve with pastries looks heavenly too. A good lunch. Really enjoyed.

During our Maastricht trip, we've visited Le Fernand for some delicious local cuisine - french inspired. There is outdoor and indoor seating available. The restaurant is located in the old town, so might be busy during peak hours. Definitely worth a trip! Staff are friendly and food comes out quickly.

Lovely cafe style restaurant with excellent food. We enjoy coming here for some little Paris vibe. The menu is not huge but is a nice balance between fish, meat and others and most dishes leave you wanting more because they taste amazing. They have a great variety of drinks besides a, to be expected a bit, good selection of wines. The menu doesn't do justice, do ask the staff or check the boards hanging throughout the place. We were slightly disappointed with the pastries for dessert however which lacked flavor compared to the beautiful dishes served. I'll take the cheese next time 😂 Nice place, nice people, great location 👍

Witloof, located in Maastricht, Belgium, is a unique restaurant known for its specialty beer selection and authentic Belgian cuisine. The interior of the restaurant was designed by Limburg designer Maurice Mentjens, adding to its charm. With nearly 400 beer options to choose from, it's a haven for beer enthusiasts. The menu features delicious offerings beyond mussels and beer, all prepared with passion and authenticity.
Superb Belgian food in Maastricht. Cozy atmosphere, and nice, attentive service. They served the best escargots I ever had, and the mussels were delicious, big, and juicy. They also have a HUGE selection of Belgium beer, including some rare kinds. Highly recommended.

I had a delicious dinner here while I was in Maastricht! All of their food is delicious. The rabbit was very good, a little sweet but it had plums in it so to be expected. My husband enjoyed his steak. They have 300 beers here and you can go inside the cellar to pick one out if you like. The staff are very friendly and nice. The atmosphere is great. It was crowded when I went, so a reservation is helpful. Overall I would highly recommend.

When in Maastricht, eat Belgian food. When looking for an interesting restaurant to have dinner during a visit to Maastricht, we stumbled upon Witloof. I’m happy we did. The restaurant has a unique vibe and interior. Immediately you are greeted by the lovely staff. The menu has a variety of interesting dishes and a huge collection of beers. We started with 2 croquettes and complementary bread. For our mains we had the rabbit and the pork medallions, both cooked perfectly in lovely sauces. They were accompanied by a large portion of fries and a tasty gratin. I had 2 glasses of home-brewed jenever which I highly recommend. The food was delicious, the portions were big and the atmosphere was great. A mist visit when in Maastricht!

Cocktail bar
Restaurant
Perched atop the Eiffel building, Bold Rooftopbar offers stunning views of Maastricht while you savor a delightful meal or sip on cocktails. The bar opens from midday, serving up excellent coffee and lunch options, and transitions into an evening hotspot with a diverse dinner menu and an extensive selection of cocktails. Situated in the developing Sphinxkwartier district, this hidden gem provides a unique experience in a historic industrial setting.
My friend and I had a lovely meal together. We enjoyed fries with truffle, a Caesar salad, and beef carpaccio, accompanied by two glasses of wine. The atmosphere outside was incredibly cozy, making the experience even more enjoyable. It was my friend’s first time trying these dishes, and he absolutely loved them. If you have friends or family visiting Maastricht for the first time, I highly recommend this place!
Duygu Y — Google review
I gave it two additional tries after the first visit in hopes the poor customer service the first time was a one time event. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the fantastic views are not worthy of the very poor customer service. I would pay the high prices for mediocre food for the view, but the way we were “greeted”, and served our drinks and food made me feel frustrated each time we left. It almost feels like they don’t actually want customers coming to their restaurant. There are many places in Maastricht that have beautiful view (on ground level) with fantastic customer service and food.

Food really good, really nice location. However it took them 40 minutes to take our food order at lunchtime. We had to ask them to come and take our order. When the food came it was wrong so they took it away and then had to bring it back correct. The food was very tasty when it did arrive.

This rooftop bar offers a fantastic setting with beautiful views, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed evening. However, I’d recommend avoiding peak hours, as it can be difficult to find a spot then. The drinks are well-made and enjoyable, but they’re a bit on the expensive side. The food is also tasty and nicely presented, though the portions are a little too small for the price. Overall, it’s a great place to unwind, but be prepared for the premium pricing and timing your visit wisely for the best experience.

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Fort Eben-Emael. Not quite as popular as Bonnefanten museum, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Fort Eben-Emael, located in Belgium, was constructed between 1932 and 1935 as a defense against potential German attacks. Despite being considered impregnable, it was captured by German paratroopers in 1940. The fort played a significant role in World War II and now offers guided tours for visitors to explore its history and underground tunnels. The site also features a history museum that recounts the attack and surrender of the fort through documents, movies, and staged scenes.
Amazing bunker in pretty good condition and prepared exhibitions. The building itself is huge but unfortunately not all parts are open for visitors. You can learn more about its history and defence during World War II thanks to a film that's played on one of the exhibitions. Staff is friendly and prepared to answer your questions.

A monumental piece of war structure. We had a good lunch in the Mill restaurant that is on site. Hearty local food with friendly service. Overall, we felt a bit oppressed by the atmosphere and surroundings. It was also a sunny afternoon after a wet morning and neither of us wanted to spend much time underground. Signage was mainly in French and German and was quite old. Given that the fort is a major wartime structure, we thought a lot more could have been done to attract and engage visitors. Large free car park but nowhere to secure bikes or motorcycles.

We did the guided tour (in English) and really enjoyed the experience. Our tour guide (Thomas) was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He explained everything well and answered all additional questions. There are some additional rooms that are not in the guided tour, but you can explore these in your own time afterwards. You can also do an unguided tour but during the guided tour you see some additional areas. Ons top of the fort is also a walking route you can do (approx. 3km). You can buy a map of the walking area with some information about things you see for €2.

Great place to visit in Belgium, very well conserved. You need one full day to visit it entirely if you take the guided visit which I highly recommend! Warning, this site in not fully accessible to person with limited physical abilities, lots of steep stairs and a lot of walk.

Iconic World War 2 Belgian Fort that was the site of several innovative but unfortunate military actions by the Nazis in 1940 in conquering it. Also a hiking trail that provides both historical installations and incredible views of the Meuse River valley.

Thank you Gustavo for the amazing tour of the fort. Your love for history made every story come alive. We learned so much and truly enjoyed every moment!

We had a special tour with a small group with a dedicated guide. It went through unlit corridors all the way though the mountain towards the Albert Canal. This place is just mindblowing and the tour guide was great!

After breakfast we collected the car and drove to Eben Emael, a Belgian fort built in the 1930s that was captured in a spectacular assault by German glider troops in 1940. We had a 2 hour tour of the fort (cost 68 Euros for the 4 of us), led by Sven, that was very interesting. The fort was designed in the most modern way but everything seemed to be based on keeping the enemy at a distance. German innovations in demolitions meant the hollow charge weapons could penetrate the turrets of the fort and within about 30 minutes of landing, most of the observation points and weapons were disabled. The guide explained about the Belgian troops that lost their lives in each position of the fort, mostly conscripts and some as young as 19. The scale of the fort was vast, far larger than I expected and there were 5km of tunnels with electric lights, gas doors on the corridors, ventilators, and everything needed for the 1200 strong garrison to function. The Germans managed to capture it with 72 men as once the guns were disabled the fort served no purpose and the Germans were already able to cross the Albert Canal and Meuse bridges that the fort was built to defend. There were options to do other specific tours to the revolving cupola and the plateau where the gliders landed so I think we'll do that on another visit.

Château Neercanne, located in Maastricht, offers suites that blend modern style with the historic charm of the original building. Each suite features a super king bed, seating area, and en-suite bathroom with luxurious amenities. The property provides free private parking, a shared lounge, and a terrace. After regaining its Michelin star in 2023 under Chef Robert Levels' leadership, the restaurant offers contemporary twists on French classics while staying true to the chateau's character.
The Château is a unique place! Excellent venue as a castle or as a place for garden-dinner but you can also enjoy the mystical dim and events in the cave of the quarry. There are traces of wine culture but I really miss the vineyards on the hillside. The view around is beautiful! The Neercanne Castle, the only terraced castle in the Netherlands. Also, it is home to a renowned, Michelin starred restaurant! The castle is first mentioned in the 14th century; since then it has been rebuilt several times. It owes its current Form to Baron Van Dopff, the military governor of Maastricht, who had a country residence built there in 1698. Behind this castle, marl blocks were quarried, probably to obtain building stone for the castle and its terraces, in an underground marl quarry: the Kasteelgroeve. The castle owner owned the quarry for centuries and had it mined commercially. But the inhabitants of the village of Kanne were also allowed to saw blocks for their own use, such as a new barn or renovation. This resulted in many small-scale clearings that give this corridor system a whimsical appearance.

I ate at L'Auberge and it was one of the best meals I have ever had. I biked from Maastricht and it was the perfect spot for a rest. My waitress was extremely helpful in recommending excellent options. The view was beautiful and then I especially enjoyed walking through the gardens. I highly recommend.

I’d hoped to enjoy a sundowner, but there was a private wedding taking place. Even so, I was in absolute awe of the exterior, the gardens, and the breathtaking views. Definitely would love to visit in the near future.

An exceptional dining experience in every respect. Château Neercanne offers a truly memorable setting – the historic castle, its terraced gardens, and the view over the Jeker Valley create an atmosphere that is both elegant and serene. The ambiance is sophisticated yet inviting, perfectly balanced to make you feel welcome without any formality. Service was flawless: attentive, professional, and genuinely warm. Every member of the team ensured we felt cared for, all without being intrusive or overly formal – a rare and much-appreciated combination. We opted for the fish-based menu, which was nothing short of outstanding. Each course was beautifully presented and perfectly executed, with subtle flavor combinations that reflected real culinary finesse. The chef’s creativity and respect for seasonal ingredients were evident throughout. A place to return to – and to recommend without hesitation.

An absolutely unique location! Château Neercanne stands out not only because of its historic charm and breathtaking views, but especially because of the impressive cave system. Perfect for atmospheric wedding parties. As a DJ, I’ve rarely experienced such a magical setting. The acoustics and lighting in the grotto are phenomenal and create a truly unforgettable experience.

The Maastricht Caves Zonneberg are an attraction in the Netherlands that is well known for its World War II role as a refuge for the people of Maastricht. It is advised to visit these caves with a guided tour, as they provide an interesting glimpse into the history of the city.
It's amazing experience to explore the Maastricht caves! Guided tour was super interesting, with lots of history and unique stories about how the caves were used over the centuries. A must-see point !!!
Blagoja S — Google review
Worth a visit to understand a Little Bit history about the Place. The Tickets can be pre-booked online through a tour group. The temperature rapidly Drops as one Enters the Cave and could go as low as 4 deg C Even in Summers. It is recommended to Carry a jacket to be on the safer side. As for accesibility by public, one needs to hike atleast for 20-25 mins to reach the Spot. There is one good Dutch restaraunt which also Served as a Meeting Point for our group before starting our Guided Tour.

Fun Valley Maastricht, located just south of the city along the Maas River, offers a fantastic day out for families. It's also an ideal spot for business activities, offering fun games and great barbecue facilities. For a fee, visitors can enjoy access to various play areas both indoors and outdoors, including trampolines and classic playgrounds.
Buy ticket for private beach. Worth the money. Water is a bit dirty but the vibe is oke. Also dance party too there

A great place for active kids. Suitable for ages 2+ . There's a large, paid parking and a food court. Great for birthdays. There's an indoor and outdoor activity area. It's a great way to keep kids busy on a rainy day.

Very nice place for outing with kids! It costs 8.50 euros per person (starting from 1 year old) and well worth it! Parking is included. Lots of places for kids to play, indoor as well as outdoor. Picnic place with shades, beach, all sorts of trampolins, classis playgrounds, rope park and more. One thing I would recommend is to bring your own food for picnic. One can easily spend there 6-8 hours, maybe more.

It was better before ! At the beach bar there were large comfortable sofas, they are gone ! There were homemade cocktails, not anymore ! The food area is much smaller. All in all, sad changes, it was better before

Restaurant Danyel, led by Chef Danyel, is a culinary gem in Maastricht that prides itself on using fresh and authentic ingredients to create original dishes with a nod to tradition and classic cuisine. The restaurant offers course-based menus ranging from 5 to 8 courses, showcasing the chef's creativity while promoting sustainability. Guests rave about the excellent food and warm hospitality provided by Danyel and Mariska, creating an intimate and inviting dining experience.

Thank you, Danyel and Mariska we look forward to our next visit!

We came to Danyel as part of our first visit to Maastricht. The city offers a lot for culinary experiences, but Danyel caught our eye fast - and it didn’t disappoint. Restauranteurs Danyel and Mariska are kind, inviting and great at their game. Restaurant offers only course based menus, you can choose form 5 to 8 courses - great for sustainability (no waste) and creativity of the chef. We had a umami style salmon sashimi starter salad, followed by a fish based vegetable soup. After came pan seared cod with saffron pumpkin puree and followed by a second main, a picanha with grilled veggies and a fantastic jus. The jewel of the night is the one pictured: homemade chocolate ganache and melon ice cream with salted caramel nut base. What a finish. All of our meals were paired with great wine thanks to Mariska and service and discussion felt like we visited a friend - and other customers were feeling the same. All and all, a great experience overall - and the food is amazing too! We’ll be back for sure :)

Spent a very pleasant Sunday here with my daughter. The food is delicious and the chef-owner is very warm and friendly.

We went last weekend to celebrate our relationship anniversary to restaurant Danyel. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff was very attentive, starting with Chef Danyel who came frequently to our table to explain the dishes and to know if everything was going well. There is no fixed menu, just just tell the chef at the beginning how many dishes you would like (between 3 and 8) and if you have allergies or food preferences. We opted for fish/seafood options as we dont like meat very much and the 4-course option and everything was exquisite. Danyel worked in the past at some of the best restaurants in France (Paul Bocuse in Lyon and Haeberlin in Alsace) and we felt almost home by eating at his restaurant. A place to recommend.
Guillaume M — Google review
We had a really good time at Danyel's. Super friendly couple, superb food. Really good value for the price! As far as I understand, the courses differ from table to table. I have no idea how the two of them are doing it. Amazing!
Alex D — Google review
For me the best restaurant in town! Next to ‘classics’, Danyel always surprises you with new, tasteful dishes, prepared with high skills and lots of care. Which are then accompanied with a great choice of wines, suggested by Mariska, the wife and sommelier of Danyel. You simply feel that they love what they do there

Fort Sint Pieter is an 18th-century hill fort located in a nature and recreation park between Maastricht and Liege. Originally built to defend against the French, it now offers guided tours and is connected to the famous caves of St. Pietersberg via tunnels. The caves, with a total length of 200 kilometers, feature ancient fossils and remnants from World War II.
This place is well-run. The restrooms are free with your ticket. We booked the Fort Tour and enjoyed it so much that we added on the Mine caves tour. I liked how the guide asked questions and explained the reasoning behind the design of the canon shooting area of the fort’s bunkers, for example.

The Fort and the caves are awesome! Our two tour guides explained very well and they transmit their passion on doing their job. It was a really nice visit.

Lovely afternoon out. Did a combined tour with this and the caves. Our guide Luella was very knowledgeable and friendly, we learned a lot and were entertained throughout.

Really cool place to visit as it is rich in history and you get a nice view of the surrounding areas. You can walk on your own but to be honest the best thing you can do is get a guided tour. We had a very lady guiding us and telling us the purpose of the place and how it was used back in the day. Tour wasn't very long and you can get another tour in the underground exhibit on a different theme. All in all I recommend this experience to enhance your knowledge of Maastricht.
Stefan T — Google review
Our excursion was in English. Although our guide was not a native English speaker, his story was coherent and interesting. It was a please listening to our guide because he was passionate about the fort’s history! I’m sorry I didn’t ask for his name. If you are interested in architecture or engineering, it’s definitely worth visiting. It might amaze you to see how smart those people were so many centuries ago!
Katja S — Google review
Well worth a visit, this place was amazing. Would advise to dress accordingly as it is cool once you are underground. Our tour guide was amazing and extremely knowledgeable. The history behind these tunnels makes them almost magical and with the artwork dotted throughout makes it all the more interesting. Our tour took just under an hour and we'll worth the money. Unfortunately it did not include the vault so if you want to see that check your booking and I believe it is another 40mins.

My visit to Sint Pieter Fort and the North Caves at Maastricht Underground was truly an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the stunning historical site and its fascinating stories. Our tour guide, Ton, was absolutely fantastic. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also passionate about the history and significance of the fort and caves. His engaging storytelling and deep insights made the tour both educational and entertaining. Ton’s ability to bring history to life is commendable, and he ensured that everyone in our group, regardless of age, had a wonderful time. The tour itself was well-organized and offered great value for money. We explored the intriguing tunnels of the North Caves, learning about their historical uses and the various artworks hidden within. The cool, dark caves provided a stark contrast to the sunny fort above, making for a diverse and exciting experience. Sint Pieter Fort, with its impressive structure and panoramic views of Maastricht, was another highlight. Ton’s explanations of the fort’s strategic importance and the events that took place there added depth to our visit. Overall, this tour exceeded our expectations. It was both fun and informative, and we left with a greater appreciation for Maastricht’s rich history. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area. Don’t miss out on this gem of an experience!

We did the fort and cave tours and they are both well worth a visit. Decently priced too, I think we paid 15 euros a head to see both tours! Very interesting local history dating back hundreds of years and our tour guide Frank was fantastic. They offer both English and Dutch tours very regularly throughout the day and the walk in the nearby surroundings is lovely too, offering great views of Maastricht! We would recommend wearing good shoes (stupidly we didn’t ha ha!) as the fort and caves are a bit uneven /steep in places walking wise.

Explore the intriguing North Caves Maastricht Underground, a historical network of tunnels and caves that offer a glimpse into the city's past. These subterranean passageways were used for various purposes over the centuries, from mining to wartime shelter. The Sint Pietersberg is home to some of the most impressive caves in the Netherlands, including North Caves and Zonneberg Caves.
Lovely tour with interesting history. Our tour guide (George) was interesting, funny and made the tour well worth the time. It’s an easy bus ride and short walk from the city center. Great way to spend an afternoon.

Let's talk "accessibility" as I feel like some attractions are a little liberal with the use of the term. These caves are technically accessible in that they are barrier free, however, there are quite a few steep hills that would be very difficult to navigate for someone without help in a manual or electric wheelchair. Signage to buy tickets is slightly confusing - I suggest taking the less steep hill up to the fort, as I took the steeper hill based on the signage and was met with stairs at the top. There is a fairly steep hill going into the caves that you'll have to navigate going in and coming back out. This would be very difficult for someone in a manual wheelchair to navigate without assistance. Inside the caves is hard packed dirt, which is more or less easy to get around aside from some fairly steep hills where my husband did have to push me from behind. For reference, I use a mobility scooter that is very hi-tech and usually does not have issues navigating steep inclines. I did struggle with some of these hills, as I found my wheels slipping on the dirt. I would not recommend attempting to come here alone, as someone will inevitably have to push you uphill at some point, and it will be difficult for them to do so. I found leaving the caves to go back outside the most difficult as quite a few people were standing on the very steep hill, and I needed to wait for them all to leave before navigating the hill. If I had to stop on the hill partway, there is no way I would be able to get moving again and would have to go back down to the bottom and try again. Again, my husband had to push me from behind, even though I was on a powerful mobility scooter. If you have help and if you have a powerful electric wheelchair or scooter, I do recommend the caves as long as you are prepared to navigate these steep hills.

What an amazing place! You need be quite mobile as it's uneven and dark unless you're near a lantern carrier but definitely well worth a visit. The guide was informative with plenty of anecdotes too.

Great tour and very informative. However, 1hr tour in the cave could become slightly cold, therefore a jacket is needed. We visited on Saturday at 15:15. Inside the cave can get a bit crowded.

This was a fun tour. It went a bit longer than planned, but it was enjoyable. The tour guide was entertaining. There’s quite a bit to see and lots to learn about the history these caves. Be sure to bring a light jacket and a little bottle of water.

Awesome experience! Our guide, Paul was really good with our group explaining everything about the area and how it's not technically a "cave" as caves are natural and not man-made ,where this user to be a limestone mine/quarry in the past. A must-visit when you're in Maastricht.
Raina — Google review
We had the chance to visit the underground during a day trip between Christmas and new years. The tour in English is nice but has limited options along the day (check the website in advance to avoid waiting for too long the the next one). They do not allow dogs inside.

Insanely interesting place to get a tour, our guide (forgot her name😢) was very informative and had her way in making the small children feel comfortable during the tour, one small girl was a bit scared but we collectively made it very fun for her, initiated by the guide. There’s really cool history behind these centuries old manmade caves filled with art. Try and spot the oldest year carved into the wall!

Derlon Hotel Maastricht is a stylish and contemporary property located in the heart of the historic center of Maastricht. The hotel offers individually designed suites with unique themes, such as the Sphinx Suite, Rieu Suite with a roof terrace, and Derlon Suite. Each air-conditioned suite features Auping beds, a 40-inch flat-screen TV, Nespresso coffee maker, and a luxurious bathroom with bathrobes, slippers, and Omnisens bath products.
An excellent place to stay if you love history. Unbelievable that some parts of the hotel belong to Roman empire. The rooms have all facilities and the staff is amazingly wonderful. Location is absolutely great as uts in heart of city with everything around. I recommend no other place to stay in Maastricht, except Derlon.

Great location, good food/drinks and friendly staff. Unfortunately the rooms are in need of an update. This is not the cheapest hotel in Maastricht but the rooms don’t reflect this, the rooms ate clean but very outdated. We have stayed several times but are not sure about the next time. Hopefully by then the rooms have renovated.

Absolutely stunning! Unique place, surrounded by beautiful historical buildings, amazing customer service and even better rooms. Delicious food with a bit of ancient history around the entire restaurant. Highly recommend!
Aleksandra S — Google review
Disappointing stay at this hotel. The rooms and especially the bathrooms need desperate updating. The towels were completely worn and had holes in them, only 3(!) tissues in the tissue box, the cleaning staff entering the room without knocking, dusty mirrors, worn carpet and a shower curtain… Hardly things you would expect in a 5star hotel. There are better hotels in the city which are in the same price range but offer a better worth for your money.
Hi W — Google review
Great location and friendly staff, entry/restaurant is nice but dont be fooled by this. The rooms are ancient and the bathrooms date back to the stone age, plain terrible. Hotel is not worthy of 5 stars! Breakfast had diverse choices and was good enough. Save you money and look elsewhere until they redo the rooms and bathrooms in a 21st century style.

I love this hotel. It’s in a great location for walking around, shopping, or enjoying a relaxing meal or drink. The area is not secluded but not crowed either and the hotel faces a nice square with plenty of covered seating and food choices. The staff has been exceptional every time I’ve visited. They offer breakfast with eggs to order with both American and European food choices. And, the hotel sits on some exposed Roman ruins you can view while having breakfast downstairs. It’s one of my favorites places.

Great location but for the premium price you'd expect rooms a little bigger or with a somewhat nice view. The room was very clean and the beds comfortable. All basics necessities as one may expect were provided. From our room we looked at the wall of a neighbouring building, the room was smaller than I expected and the windows and window blinds weren't in great condition. The service overall was good, receptionist was very friendly and helpful the older staff member at breakfast area was too, but the young english speaking girl server at the breakfast was not very helpful or polite just telling me what we have is what you see but after I insisted she go check with her colleague she did reluctantly and I was helped with my request. Maybe its just inexperience but in a reputable hotel like this I expect employees to be cheerful and ready to assist with requests

Museums
The Natural History Museum of Maastricht, situated in the Netherlands, is a small yet captivating destination that boasts extensive collections of fossils, plants, insects, and minerals from the Limburg region. The museum's exhibits offer a journey through time, showcasing the area's rich biodiversity and geological heritage. Visitors can marvel at ancient fossils of prehistoric creatures like the Mosasaurus and explore diverse ecosystems through interactive displays.
Very cute museum and very impressive exhibition of the mosasaurus. Also got a spontaneous exciting tour by the lovely Jacques, who gave us an awesome insight into the museums history as well as the mosasaurus, especially in and around Maastricht. And i think the sticker we bought in the shop speaks for itself :)
Felix — Google review
Dainty little natural museum with an impressive main door. The first room is a cinema with an overview of the history of the area. The following rooms are dedicated to fossils and different collections of stones. The mosasaurus reproduction is well presented. The rest of the mesum is full of staffed animals and other treasures.
Federica V — Google review
A good museum, good explanation, but there is often not enough explanation in the Dutch labels (if there are any labels at all), and no English explanation. The shop is small but nice and the garden nice enough, but otherwise quite a small establishment with an okay collection. I felt the museum deteriorated a bit as it went along, from good explanation and artefacts (mostly fossils) at the beginning, to just a lot of slightly creepy taxidermy at the end. I feel that needs renovating a bit towards the end to be a bit more 21st Century!
Chris L — Google review
The best museum I did in Maastricht during my stay. There are so many things to see and it is really impressive to see traces on the past wildlife here. I loved it. Moreover, the staff crew was very nice.
Julie H — Google review
Beautiful museum, definitely worth a visit. Some parts of the museum are a bit outdated, but from what I've seen is that they're working on renewing it.
Sven L — Google review
If you like ornithology and wanna see the evolution of the animals and their habitat in south of the Netherlands, it is a great place to go to
Fabio V — Google review
Absolutely fantastic with a wide range of subjects that you can spend a good few hours looking round and still need to go back. Also well worth seeing the 3D display as it is awesome. Plenty for adults and children to learn about. The layout is Disability friendly which is great for those who are unsteady on their feet or in a wheelchair
Mark C — Google review
Nice museum, it's a bit small, but definitely worth it. More convenient if you are a student or have some discount.

The Basilica of Saint Servatius, located in Vrijthof square, is a Romanesque cathedral and pilgrimage site. It houses an art-filled treasury containing relics of St. Servatius and other artifacts from ancient times. The church is built on the resting place of the saint and holds religious significance. Vrijthof square was once a Roman and Frankish cemetery but has been transformed into a lively gathering place with outdoor cafes and events.
Absolutely stunning basilica. The entrance fee was €7, which included access to both the basilica and the treasury museum. The treasury houses a remarkable collection of beautiful relics that are definitely worth seeing.
Huip E — Google review
Due to the national holiday, the church was closed on Monday. It is a pity… however, there is a beautiful courtyard in the middle of the building, a definite must visit!
Işıl — Google review
The Basilica of Saint Servatius in Maastricht is a place where history hits you the moment you walk in. Towering Romanesque arches, intricate stone carvings, and a treasury full of medieval relics give it the weight and presence of a cathedral twice its size. Built over the tomb of Saint Servatius—the city’s first bishop—this is the oldest church in the Netherlands, and you can feel every century layered into its stones. Descending into the crypt is like stepping into the pages of a medieval legend. The atmosphere is hushed, reverent, and unmistakably powerful. Upstairs, the vast nave and richly decorated chapels speak of a time when faith and craftsmanship shaped the world. And then there’s the treasury: gilded relics, jeweled busts, and ancient keys that once drew emperors and popes. It’s not just a church—it’s a masterpiece of memory, devotion, and time. If you’re in Maastricht, this basilica is absolutely unmissable. It’s cool, it’s old, and it’s unforgettable.
Felipe B — Google review
Impressive Romanesque basilica with stunning architecture and rich history. The interior is peaceful and beautifully decorated, and the treasury is a must-see for its unique religious artifacts. A highlight of Maastricht for history and culture lovers
Özgür D — Google review
A must-see structure if you are in Maastricht. As impressive as its exterior is, the inside is even more magnificent. A fantastic example of Romanesque architecture. The tranquility and architectural details inside are mesmerizing. Even just sitting in the Vrijthof and looking at this building is a pleasure in itself.
Niho — Google review
Breathtaking architecture and an amazing collection of relics. No audio tour available, but a basic info brochure is available. The tomb and shrine are beautiful.
Victoria N — Google review
Really nice place to visit. Houses one of the largest collections of relics in the Netherlands.

You can freely enter only the first room after the entrance. Tickets are required to tour the interior of the church.

Bistro
Café de Bóbbel is a classic café in Maastricht, known for its delicious food and as the perfect spot to start your evening. The menu may be familiar, but the quality is top-notch. The bar takes center stage in this European-style café, where locals gather to enjoy Dutch classics and a lively atmosphere. It's a popular local spot with a vibrant crowd and an authentic ambiance. Additionally, it's one of the most beloved cafes in Maastricht.
It was very hard to find an unoccupied table here at Maastricht during King’s Day but we managed to get a table at Café de Bóbbel (which was a huge surprise as I questioned how this great place isn’t full during this Saturday evening:) Mussels are the absolute-must-have! Also, you must order their bouillabaisse, which was full of flavours🍲 Additionally, we order an amazing steak tartare and a portion of spaghetti with truffles. Both meals were delicious! If you are looking for a place to have a great lunch or dinner, I highly recommend paying Café de Bóbbel a visit!

Staffs was really friendly and nice. We went during lunch hour and had a sandwiches burger. Tastes are fine and there are other choices too but personally felt the others less interesting. However, didn’t manage to try their mosselen so probably will be returning for another try!

We went in one evening in the recent heatwave, just fancying something lite. We has D a cheese board and a charcuterie board, with wine and beer. It was exactly right and served by a really nice, friendly member of staff. Highly recommended
Andy L — Google review
We had the most amazing cocktails in this cosy pub. The day after we went for lunch, fabulous mussels and nice variation on tuna salad on Swedish wrap. Best service in town!
Marnix W — Google review
Very nice restaurant with great service. Beautiful interior with a central bar location. Nice selection of food and drinks. Main courses were mostly just over 20 Euros, and drink prices were very reasonable. Raymond is an excellent host, and the entire staff is responsive and efficient.
Joel T — Google review
The food was delicious! The main course was amazing, and the soup was incredibly rich and tasty. French fries were just the right amount of salty, definitely will come again!
Yixuan ( — Google review
My partner and I had an utterly scrumptious lunch here today; the service was sharp, food delicious (and took the right amount of time to come to us after ordering), the environment was comfortable and the bill was very reasonable considering everything had been on point. Would recommend and hope to go again! Edit: upon returning once again on another visit to Maastricht, we had a scrumptious feast, enjoyed by several drinks. So glad that the service and quality has been maintained!
Travel T — Google review
We had moules avec de frites which were good. Not great but good. What bothered us was that other people around us ordered later than us and got the food earlier. We waited 30 minutes for the escargots and another 40 minutes for the moules which is too long and not acceptable.

Safar is a hidden gem in the heart of Maastricht, serving up classic Lebanese dishes with a warm atmosphere. The food is delicious and the service is great, making it a 5-star restaurant.
A must visit restaurant in Maastricht! We ordered 3 cold dishes and three main courses and all of them were delicious and well presented. All of the ingredients were fresh and well thought out. We definitely recommend the hummus with lamb and the duck with couscous, although the menu changes every six months. The stuff was very helpful and kind, and the atmosphere elevates the experience!
Hitifan — Google review
A nice and Cozy place but as i found out traveling by myself,it's a restaurant more 4 sharing the different dishes. It's running in the papers if you hv different dishes by yourself. Foodwise it was fantastic I loved it. Definitely would be a place I'll go back to but then as a couple or group. So maybe a tip 4 the Owners to make a dish like a mezze (mixed platter) for solo travelers or customers. Then i would be Perfect ☺️
Salsaphotographer P — Google review
Food was delicious and service was exceptional. I preferred the cold dishes over the warm ones. The dishes that really stood out were the tomato on labneh and the chicken musakhan. Generally I am really not a fan of expensive restaurants that serve small portions as it is not my preferred style of eating but I decided to try something new for my birthday as I heard good things about the food.
Lia V — Google review
This was the best culinary experience we've had in a while and a big one for Maastricht. It is well hidden, but beautifuly simple which only adds to the experience. The menu is small but packed with flavorful dishes that you can tell were made using high quality ingredients. The humus was the best I've ever had and the madeleines are to die for. A must! But be sure to make a reservation as it can get full rather quickly
Chubato — Google review
Has a stellar experience under the guidance of an amazing team, gorgeous wines to complement an even more gorgeous cuisine. Every dish better than the last one, special thanks to our lovely waitress, Danai, and the kitchen team working last night. Can't recommend enough!
Vlad B — Google review
I can’t say enough about our wonderful experience at Safar. I loved the ambience, and the staff was knowledgeable and warm. Definitely get the labneh and pickled fish. They were out of this world. Don’t miss out on dessert either. Also the orange wine from Slovakia is something to try.
Summer H — Google review
Very nice plates, each with their own taste and character: fresh herbs, the expected spices, lovely veggie dishes, slowly cooked meat and a ceviche like dish. Even the gin tonic was different than my usual brands and the selection of wine is also impressive. Service was very pleasant and the restaurant has a lovely spa-esque feeling.
Rik V — Google review
A real hidden gem. Hard to find and cozy with a loungy vibe. We never had Libanese but after this day we certainly will be going for more. Service is great, friendly and there to answer all you questions. The food is amazing and delicious. Only regret I have, is that I wished our stomachs were bigger as we would have loved about everything from the menu! Definitely returning here in the future

Diner
Eetcafe de Preuverij is a charming and popular restaurant located in Maastricht, offering a cozy and inviting atmosphere for visitors. Known for its excellent food at fair prices, this eetcafe serves typical Limburgish and Dutch cuisine, including must-try dishes like the onion soup and Zuurvlees. The friendly staff ensures a pleasant dining experience, while the variety of drinks available adds to the overall enjoyment.
Amazing food!!! Definitely a recommendation if you want to have a great lunch! We ordered a 12 Uurtje. It was our best uurtje EVER!
Ana M — Google review
I'd had onion soup and zuurvlees a couple of times. Since it was good we took our guests there right after the carnaval. However it was a big disappointment. The onions in the onion soup was cut so big and they were not well cooked. Zuurvlees was too sweet and the clove taste was too strong unlike the previous times. I ordered salad with smoked chicken. It was too salty. The food was nothing like the previous times. It's a shame that I gave such a bad experience to my guests.
BURCU Y — Google review
Food was incredibly tasty! The staff was kind and helpful. Prices not too bad, considering the quality. Definitely pay a visit if you want to try some local delicacies.
Dina W — Google review
We were a group of people and we ordered onion soup, hamburger and “lunch trio”. I tried all the dishes. Taste and ingredients were below average. But the service and price was OK. You can try here. But do not have big expectations!
Caner C — Google review
Really nice atmosphere and music. Service is great as well. Whereas the food is good, price quality ratio is really great and the portions are on point. Situated in a very nice area of Maastricht as well. 10/10 recommended
Hady S — Google review
Good place to try the Zuurvlees dish (typical in Maastricht), and all dishes come with fries. Onion soup as entrée was very good, but if you don’t eat a lot then it’s better to share.
Adeline D — Google review
Wonderful little "eetcafe". Atmosphere is great, you can stay for a while, have a drink (coffee, all sorts of beer or softdrinks). The food is very good for good and fair prices. Typical limburgish/netherlands food, especially the onion soup - a must! The staff is allways friendly and fast. So if you like these little restaurants away from the main ones, you will be happy with this. Its worth a visit.

I can’t get enough of the paninis at this bakery café! Each one is bursting with flavor, from the perfectly toasted bread to the rich, savory fillings. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients, and it’s clear that everything is made with care. The coffee is the perfect balance of bold and smooth, with a rich aroma that fills the whole café. Every bite and sip feels like a little moment of pure indulgence. Definitely a place to satisfy your taste bu

Such a great lunch place for students! Great prices and proportions, I can never finish a full sandwich in one sitting. Their bread is the freshest on the block as they get it from bakeries every morning and you can taste the difference from neighboring shops. Very friendly staff and great location.

So you want to have a fresh, delicious lunch that is prepped quick but with care? Something different to treat yourself or just a daily great option to grab a nice bite and lovely coffee? This is where you will go. After a while I got to return to Maastricht and revisiting Make and Take brought me back to memory lane instantly! So delicious. The fresh bread. The beautiful ingredients. The kind and to the point service. Have a try!

Too expensive and just not that good. The coffee is overpriced, so are the pastries.

I love this place. This business has fed me for a long time. The best baked bread I’ve ever had comes from this fine establishment. One of my all time favorite thing about it was it’s really affordable sandwich’s and coffee. Definitely a cozy and all around great place.

Delicious sandwiches for affordable prices. Nice and quiet seating area outside. In my opinion the best Café in Maastricht as it's not crowded by tourists like most of the others
