The owner, Vivian, was so sweet and told me that Korea House is the oldest Korean restaurant in Austin! Because I am Korean myself and a regular at Korea House, I begged the owners to put an end to my search (4+ years) for authentic Soondae Guk (my favorite dish) in Austin by specially preparing it themselves. They were kind enough to prepare a Soondae Guk feast for me and my friends (a group of ten). It was also pretty pricey ($25/serving, which is higher than their usual $16 - $20/serving for their guk dishes on the menu). I also asked if they would put it on the menu, but they told me that it would hurt the business, most likely because less people would get it for its higher price and the profit margin is probably much lower than the dishes they offer, which I totally understand. From the first smell, I knew this was the real deal (oh, how much I had missed this wonderful smell). I always get the bulgogi, side dishes & tonight tried the kimchi mandoo. (It was SO good) I didn’t realize how close it is to my work and home but was pleasantly surprised when I found out that they did free meals once a month. They are a small women ran team and although shortage of staff they flipped all of the tables and kept it going until 8 pm. We recently tested how much food our stomachs could hold at Chodang Tofu House and here’s what we found: the setting is clean and quaint, a bit of a strange interior that’s difficult to explain but it doesn’t really feel like a KBBQ spot inside. Parking was decent so that’s a plus. We ordered the deluxe options and ate a good amount of different meats and here’s what we experienced… a lot of the meat is underwhelming. Specifically, many of the beef cuts don’t have a lot of flavor and taste bland. Not sure what it is but in comparison to other similar spots we’ve been to nothing really stood out except for the beef bulgogi. The sides were so-so, the sweet corn being the best of them and the kimchi just not tasting that good. One thing I noticed was that for some reason the grills here charred very quickly compared to other places which left us needing to get our grill replaced quite often. When it was time to wrap up dinner and pay they took our card and returned the bill to me without my card and when we went up to ask about it we saw it hanging out of the payment machine, not a good look. As a whole the service was decent but when handling people’s cards and personal belongings you just need to be a bit more on top of that. The pricing honestly wasn’t bad, just a letdown for how the food was. The whole experience was okay, we would definitely recommend anyone go for themselves to be the judge of the place and maybe we’ll return one day and give it an upgrade.

The sides were all great, especially the chilled mashed potato. I dunno what they do to make this creamless potato taste so good but it was the first side I gobbled down. Speaking of spicy, I've tried kimchi at several different places and I will say the kimchi here is definitely one of the more spicy ones. The service was also really good here! The server took care of cooking and cutting the meat up and was also great with refilling our water glasses. Overall, I loved the restaurant though and I definitely will be returning! Update- Well I returned for my second and probably final time to Together. Me and my friends were thoroughly disappointed. We were sat down and were waiting a while to get our drink order in. A Korean family came in while we were waiting and not only did Together staff take their drink order first, but they brought them all the side dishes for their food before they even took our drink order. They took their food order first too despite being sat well after my group was sat. Additionally, Together must have gotten popular now because every single table had customers where as the first time there might have been one other table besides ours that had guests there. Together staff was massively understaffed in this second trip and as a result they were terrible at our table. Finally, the spicy wings that we got last time we wanted to get again. For some reason they changed the sauce that was used because the wings were not even spicy anymore. They were actually sweet for some reason. Massively disappointed for the return trip.

I wish I could give more than five stars! Before I even tried the Chi’Lantro B'Bimbap bowl (#1) I was blown away by the kindness and insight that all of the employees showed me. I had questions about the menu and they were happy to tell me anything. Once they knew I was traveling and in town for business they they made sure to let me know about all of the places to go in Austin whether it was restaurants, the library, or other attractions (Barton Springs). The food was delicious, the combination of flavors incredible! I got a side of the customer favorite Magic Sauce and it didn’t disappoint. I was going to try the Verde Ranch, but it wasn’t ready yet which tells me that they make it fresh. I would definitely recommend this place.
