One side is a pay-to-enter swimming hole and there is another hidden free-to-enter entrance that serves as a much smaller swimming hole for the doggies. We had such a great time interacting with the locals and playing with the cute, energetic dogs we didn’t want to leave. Note that the doggie entrance is hidden amongst the trees and down a very steep hill (which is a bit tricky to get up and down). If you are a lover of animals the doggie side is a MUST. We didn’t pay to enter the other side but it is huge and looks soooo cool. If we had our swimming suits we def would’ve gone! What amazed me about the doggie side (and really Austin in general) is how welcome the locals made us. What was also cool is how everyone looked after everyone else’s dogs, taking turns throwing balls for them in the water. Barton Springs in particular runs a tight ship- you have to with thousands of visitors daily during the summer. No food or drink is allowed as they cannot spray for bugs so as not to contaminate the water and grounds. There are two entrances (Southside and the main entrance through Zilker Park) and it does cost money in the summers but it is currently free until March (we're in November now). They also use to offer free swim from like 5-9am and 9-10pm but not sure if that's still a thing. Parking can be difficult but that's to show how popular it is being an oasis in the heart of Austin. You will see ALL different types of people in all different types of dress (including topless & thongs) but everyone is at the Springs to chill and have a good time (I've also heard the water is a great hangover cure). There are living animals in and around the "pool" such as turtles, ducks, cormorants, fish, salamanders, and at one point there was some sort of eel at the spillway end. There is also plenty of algae and plant growth but everything is harmless and visible in the clear refreshing water. The pool starts at zero depth and continues to on to maybe 6-7ft aside from the dicing area which I believe is 12-13+ feet (it's been awhile and I can't remember exactly anymore). You can see downtown Austin from the pool and sunsets are beautiful. It is wheelchair and stroller friendly, you just have to follow the ramp down to the deck. The bathrooms are large and clean (and cleaned regularly by the guards) with lots of changing areas and bathrooms. Barton Springs has a rich history that it strives to upkeep, especially by the S.O.S - Save Our Springs Alliance. I suggest you wear your swimsuit, pack a blanket, a towel, and some water bottles (no coolers allowed), and head on over with your friends to chill on the hill and watch some crazy people doing crazy tricks off the diving board; you won't be disappointed!

The large, spacious and intricate work on each wall was such a blast to explore over the weekend. I greatly enjoyed every piece.. This was my first time to attend a show at the Paramount. I easily parked at a nearby parking garage for a small fee and walked to the venue. There were quite a few people there to assist people in getting to their seats. They were so friendly and helpful! We were short on time so we just explored the Japanese Garden- it was beautiful! Such a fun, calm space to spend time in and walk around - and it has a great view of the Austin skyline. Plenty of parking, tickets are as listed on the website ($8 per person, slightly lower if you are an Austin resident) - you can buy tickets at the entrance prior to parking. This is one of those places that will really make you like the city - not a hidden gem but for sure an essential space to truly liking the city. It is pretty pricey to pay entrance fees and token fees, and it does seem a bit commercialized. I have heard some bad things about the owners though but I'm not sure what is true. The people working there seem nice enough and the place is relatively clean. My kids love coming here for the animals and interactive exhibits, and sometimes they have a mermaid doing face painting and a balloon artist, and caricature artist. Cons: It's not very stroller or wheel chair friendly. No paved walkways. Mostly gravel. The sizes of the animal enclosures are small and animals looked stressed. Due to nature of the park, it may be hot. Parking is free and usually not filled out..if it is you can park on the street. This is amazing place to visit with friends and family because it has two different attractions here. One is actual park with peacocks and garden and other one is multiple trails. Directions are bit loose on Trails so take a picture trail maps. One with white door is the entrance of garden while next to borders or through garden is Trails. Trails are bit hard to follow as there aren't dedicated signs to follow at all times. For example, you can start at one trail however, in the middle the trail, it will split into two ways and you just have to try both and see which one is most utilized or right way to go..however, you will not get lost as people are walking by and trails are short. You will have good view of lake and amazing pictures to take and explore. Bring atleast 3 gallons of water. Rest rooms are actively maintained and water fountain is not available. Portable restrooms are available but as you can guess, they are not that good.

My favorite level is probably the taxidermy animals, they are very well done and are great if you want to do some sketchbook drawing. Wow, where to start!! It was amazing. So much choice of arcade entertainment from pinball, asteroids up to Fast and Furious driving. Food and drinks available to. It was incredibly packed. There was a wait for Mario Kart and the shooting games. We were there for 3 hours and never got to play basketball or the motorcycle games. There is limited seating so if you need to sit, plan to arrive right when they open. The bar is enormous with lots of choices for alcohol but they add 20% to all tabs. On one hand, Antone's is a classic, an historic venue at the heart of Austin blues. It's an intimate venue to see some big names, with a decent size stage and good sound. Tickets are cheap and the staff is friendly. It SHOULD be highly rated. But it's also the only venue I've been to in this town in which the crowd continues to talk during performances. Not just in the bar area, but right up to the stage. Often loud enough that the band can hear them while they're playing. I've seen bands get their energy drained by it. Fans, and sadly, bands, have to ask people to be quiet during the show. Easily 80% of the shows I've seen at Antone's this happens. Even during the headliner people paid to see. I don't know why it happens here so often or why I've only seen it happen here. As a big fan of live music, it damn near ruins the experience. I've actually apologized on behalf of my city to traveling musicians I know after their shows. C'mon Austin, do better.

I loved walking through all the pumpkin lights. Everything, and I mean everything, is made from pumpkins! It’s very impressive. There are a handful of local shop booths to shop from. They have SO many photo opportunities and a couple of activities by the different lights. They have themes you walk through. My favorite was the underwater where you could draw on yourself with a marker that would light up because of all the black light. Fun stuff for the kids to do as well like a sandbox and seesaws! Definitely worth bringing the family! Your shoes will get very dusty, so I recommend shoes you aren’t too worried about getting dusty. Lots of walking.
