Place hasn't changed since the last time I was there. But sadly now needing a bit of TLC, decor, furnishings, seating ladies. etc. Owner has now seemingly sold the pub so perhaps not willing to update before selling. Only £10.75. It's the best gluten free pizza I've had in the ten years I've not been able to eat gluten. Staff are very friendly. The place was cold, dark and nearly empty on a Saturday night. The starters arrived and one of them was cold. The kids meal arrived and the fries looked like they had been cracked black peppered. The fish still had skin on it underneath the batter which was odd in my opinion as I feel this is an acquired taste. As a result the 3 people who ordered it left most of their meal as they were put off. You pay upfront at these type of places so it’s not as if we’ve went ordered food and then ripped everything to bits in hope of a discount or freebie. We just got up and left after this didn’t bother waiting for the kids dessert we paid for. It’s a shame that this is the level (or lack of) care that is taken in delivering the product. Hospitality venues are closing daily so I suspect this one won’t be far off if customer numbers are dwindling. We were at table 16/17 around 8pm.

Aside that, the Seagulls here seems to be friendly as from my observation, they allow locals to eat their meal while walking outside without attack. Four of us booked a table for a meal. The entrance to the hotel looks superb, it was quiet, warm and inviting but strangely no-one about. It wasn't until we went up the stairs to the dining room that we eventually were approached by a server. We were taken to our table and placed our orders for food and drinks. The dining area was really nicely decorated, quiet and comfortable. All the food that was served to the table was excellent, couldn't fault any of it, delicious. The only thing that let the evening down was the service. Don't get me wrong the servers were polite and well presented and interacted with us in a pleasant manner (when they eventually came to the table) but we lost count how many times we had to grab the attention of a server to ask for drinks then wait 15-20 minutes plus before the drinks were brought to the table. Sometimes after asking, we had to ask another member of staff because the first had forgotten to come back. With the cocktails at an average of £17 each that's a lot of revenue the hotel is loosing, we could of happily bought another three or four each during our meal but for the slow service. This is a really nice place to bring someone as a treat or on a special occasion but the service has to be better to justify the higher cost. The toilets were clean and tidy.

Room was nice, clean and initial impressions were positive. At time of check in there was some noise coming from what appeared to be an event in the function suite which was directly below the room. Myself and my wife went out for food and drinks and enjoyed our time in Dundee. However upon return to the room shortly after 11pm there was loud music that could be heard throughout the room which was either coming from the function suite or the bar (not belonging Malmaison) that sits below this section of the building. Due to having unpacked we decided to try and tolerate this... Loud bass noise continued to around 2am. To compound this noise the room we were in was not great as there appeared to be a main drainage pipe for the building located within one of the walls and there was loud and repeated noises coming from it as water and waste moved through them. The location of the room again is not helpful as you are directly at the top of the stairs and as such there was a lot of footfall coming and going throughout the evening causing noise and banging doors. The room in itself was adequate, bed and duvet comfortable but pillows too soft and unsupportive. Staff could have been more supportive as whilst we didn't raise issues throughout the night I did raise them at check out which didn't particularly receive any kind of acknowledgement or apology and instead was solely met with the question... 'otherwise, your stay with us was good?' which I thought was a poor and disinterested response.

The hotel is in a fantastic location. We were 12 golfers and were able to access several courses in the region. The hotel is downtown with several pubs/shops nearby in walking distance. The room was very well equipped. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom excellent. Only issue was with air cooling... The hot breakfasts every morning were fantastic. Our servers were fabulous. Restaurant could use an additional coffee machine to handle peak time. We also enjoyed a private dinner. It was excellent. The steaks were really good... quite surprising high quality food in a hotel... a more than pleasant surprise! I would definitely recommend and look forward to returning.

While the band were amazing, the staff at the bar were awful! To start with there was only 2 people serving during the break. The queue wasn’t bad and people lined along the bar as usual. We waited at the end, for 25 minutes!! Staff only concentrated on the people in the middle of the bar, serving others that had just turned up. The staff had no sense of direction, just wandering about up and down, where’s as normally they are designated an area. Eventually I went to a bouncer to complain and it still took another 10 minutes to be served and then we were given a mouthful of cheek from the bartender. We missed half of the second set waiting for a drink and the prices were ridiculous. One bartender even told us that she was entitled to a break, even though she’d only started working at 7pm And it was 8.15pm! Great venue but staff seriously need to be sorted out.
