I had the pleasure of having this made table side and it just enhanced the experience. All cocktails are around $20 each but to me, the expeeience, atmosphere, service, and overall abv makes this more than a reasonably priced experience. With the setting being so intimate, it’ll never be too loud either, so this is a perfect date night spot or place to end the evening. Elephant Room is a fantastic jazzy escape right on Congress Ave that is one of the greatest examples of Austin’s true love for music. The setting is very intimate with low lighting throughout and a lot of tables aligning the path down to the stage. We were able to snag a table pretty close up but we would recommend getting there early as the place was decently full for a Thursday night (also to beat their cover that begins at 8; cover amount depends on the day of week). The service is friendly and quick with ordering and getting drinks. Obviously with any jazz bar, the music is the main show and the band was great. They performed a few different styles of jazz and it all sounded fantastic with funny little skits in between their sets. It’s very easy to see why Elephant Room is a go to for many music lovers in the city. I will warn however that the drinks were not great. With a limited cocktail menu we went with familiar favorites of ours and none of us were very impressed with what we received. The Manhattan was very strong, even for a bourbon centric cocktail. The espresso martini was just alright but not as good as many other places. And lastly, the jazz juice just wasn’t as sweet and flavorful as other traditional rum punches. They do have a decent wine and beer selection so maybe stick to those. You can’t go wrong with great music and that’s exactly what Elephant Room provides. Paid $15 cover pp, then another $5 for the second act. The acoustics were quite good - not too loud as to deafen, but enough to hear every note. McMurtry (folk singer) was really great - this was a performance by himself - he will appear in the main venue the following week with a band. I enjoyed his clear diction, and from there, appreciated the lyrics and the music itself. The lyrics mostly conveyed disaffection, cynicism, lost love or loneliness. It's a total gem!! Very old school feel, lots of history to see in all of the photos. Definitely not a modern place if that's what youre looking for, but that's what gives it it's charm! Small dance floor so people are constantly running into people, but there's nowhere to grow, so it is what it is, and everyone does just fine. The floor is concrete which is good because it's all even and provides a good dancing surface. I don't feel that there's enough room on the dance floor for some of the people doing tricks and dips with a leg in the air, but that's just me. I was waiting for someone to get a boot to the face/head. One thing I disliked was the people standing around blocking the view if you were sitting at a table like we were. I was watching everyone dance and a group of people came and stood right in front of me. I would definitely come again though and look forward to doing so. I would go super early next time though because parking was very difficult due to being such a small land footprint. Hard because I know there isnt much anyone can do about it, so just go early and enjoy a taste of Texas!!! 😁

Pretty centrally located, parking is easy to find and it’s very accessible. The closest garage will be the red garage. They have both outdoor and indoor options for seating which is a plus. There are a lot of seats inside so you don’t have to worry about a lack of choices and they have a lot of TV options to catch your favorite game at. We’ve personally come a few Sundays and have always had a good time watching a game. We often come here for trivia night on Mondays which is always a blast. They often get a very good turnout on trivia night with about 15-20 teams and it gets highly competitive. If you place top 3 you get little prizes and sometimes they have good ones like gift cards to the bar itself. Trivia typically runs about 1.5 hours and every week it’s been getting better and better. Outside of trivia they also run bingo nights and have a dart board at the back of the bar. The servers are very friendly and they seem to recognize regulars. They have a decent amount of food options here and they’re solid too. We’ve had their jumbo pretzels, chips with queso, burger, etc. and all are pretty good for bar food. The only heads up would be their queso does have peppers in it so if you’re not into that maybe stay away. As for the beer, it’s always fresh on tap and never tastes off and the pours are pretty good as well. The waitresses are pretty attentive and check in often if you’re in their area. We’ve been here day and night and brought our dog a few times as well so we’ve seen this place in all settings. It’s definitely a friendly and fun sit down bar to enjoy with others, we’d recommend stopping by or planning to watch a game with some others, you won’t regret it.

And they have a little kiddie pool outside where you can dip your feet, which is nice, and dogs are allowed, so if you’re just looking for a chill place to hang out, it’s great, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for the food or drinks.

In all seriousness though, Firehouse is a decent speakeasy where half the fun is in taking photos at the sliding bookcase and the other half is after you wait about 20 minutes for your drinks. We ordered the passion fruit daiquiri and old fashioned (they couldn’t make a strawberry daiquiri variation, not sure if they couldn’t or wouldn’t). The drinks are good and strong but in a dimly lit speakeasy with a strange floor plan it never really felt worth the wait. There is sometimes live music which we unfortunately didn’t catch so there’s likely nights where the energy is much higher and you wouldn’t even notice. The speakeasy is on the far more accessible side (definitely not for parking, but it’s 6th so you should Uber anyways) which is good for those who want a casual find and might be fine with waiting for their drinks. It comes across as more of a lounge so be aware of that before expecting a lot of it. But in an area littered with other options, Firehouse feels a bit lacking. We’d recommend it as a warmup bar if you’re going out for a night on 6th but wouldn’t put it down as the highlight.

Turns out there is paid parking, my car was booted after an hour of being a paid customer. While I was able to work something out with the bartender (nice lady, made a great cocktail by the way) to get compensated for it, the whole situation just felt unnecessary. Other than that BS, the drinks are good, but pricey and also mine were like halfway filled? I don’t know if that’s intentional but if I order a $15 drink, I kind of expect it to be close to the brim of the glass. Other craft cocktail places kinda explain the menu a bit, the themes, steer you to something that is a good fit for you. But not here. I guess for $22 for a cocktail I expect an experience on par with other cocktail bars, which are in the $16-$18 range. By the time I tipped and got out of there I paid $60 for two drinks.
