While driving to see the dinosaurs, the sign for Yavis Family Restaurant caught our eye, so we decided to give it a try. The outside sitting area is actually cooler then inside but it was super hot when we visited. On cooler days probably ok to sit inside. We were a group of 6 and had various brisket burger and pulled pork burger, brisket salad and the mash bowl. Everything was good but we did find the brisket a bit dry. Luckily they have hot sauces available which help. The pulled pork however was delicious and so was the salad. The baked beans which is an option instead of fries were actually really good. Had pineapple pieces in it which made it sweet which I really liked.

We got their lunch special which was a soup and sandwich. They loaded the sandwich with ham and the hot peppers and pickles tasted amazing, it was a great combination. The soup was a beef and vegetable soup that was packed with tons of flavour and had me wanting more. We also got a macadamia cookie and a slice of apple pie with vanilla ice cream for dessert. I ordered one combination dinner, (to share with my wife) which included chicken fried rice, chicken chow mein, sweet and sour chicken balls along with 2 spring rolls. When I opened the take-out container, it appeared there was a huge serving of food which I thought was generous. When I began to divide up the food for my wife and I, we realized it was mostly rice. Sadly, the rice was very dry and the same with the chow mein, plus the chow mein had little to no taste and barely any chicken or vegetables. The sweet & sour chicken balls were mostly batter and there was very little sweet & sour sauce so they were too were dry. Upon pick-up we were only given one packet of soy-sauce and asked for more so the lady gave us an extra two. After we started eating the food, (and me almost choking) my wife decided to scurry back to Diana's and ask for more soy-sauce because the meal was so dry. The counter area was very cramped and the server at the counter was friendly. Having said all that, you decide. If you like dry food, (and a bunch or soy-sauce for flavor) then maybe this place is for you. As for us, well, sorry to say, we won't come back. I have to add. Smorgasbord might seem like a good deal for some but I will never go that route again. With all the risk's of people sneezing and coughing over open food, and people with bad cases of dandruff and other dry skin issues falling into the food, no thanks. The tendon had exceptional flavour and was cut in generous slices, the beef balls were huge and tasted homemade. And I had the most crunchy, plump bean sprouts of my life.
