This is hands down the best Italian restaurant in Playa del Carmen. As an Italian myself, I have to say—their pizza is exceptional. We ordered the rucola pizza and it was absolute perfection. The wood-burning oven is clearly top-notch, and the pizzaiolo knows exactly what they’re doing. The crust was perfectly thin yet sturdy enough to hold a slice without it drooping—just the way it should be. I also had the brodo soup, which was rich and comforting. You could tell the tortellini were homemade—so much care goes into their food. My guests ordered the mare e monte pasta, pasta arrabbiata, and truffle ravioli, and everyone was genuinely impressed with their dishes. The wine selection is great, too. There is so much to choose from on their menu. We have had sandwiches, pizzas, salads (the Beatrice is so good), and desserts. We returned two days later to try the pizza (with a reservation this time), and it was well worth the wait. Absolutely delicious pizza, and like no other I've had in Playa. The pizza is deep dish, with a crispy fried bottom, and soft interior. It was loaded with melted cheese and toppings. The sauce was not overly sweet. We had the Hawaiian and the meat lovers, both highly recommend. The pizza is definitely large enough to feed two people. We were both full on just one pizza shared, and we took home one entire pizza for later. The staff were friendly, and they have WhatsApp for reservations and I believe delivery. They definitely do a ton of take away and delivery.

And for those of you searching for a culinary experience like no other, look no further than Mercatto Italian Cuisine. The restaurant is located in a very centric area, the interior it's modern and clean. The decor allows the simplistic beauty of the food to really shine, though beauty isn’t the only thing bringing folks to Mercatto. The restaurant buzzed with excited energy and was comfortably full with seemingly satisfied patrons. I started with Mercatto's delicious medium roast fruity chiapas illy's coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice and home made artisanal breads. For breakfast, I decided to go with Mercatto  make your own  scrambled eggs filled with spinach, mushrooms crowned with mexican vegetables. The flavor of the green salsa balanced the richness of the sinfully tender manchego cheese very well. The dish was executed perfectly, and the bright colors of the ingredients peeking through the eggs was a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. I did find the souce a bit too hot, but I know a lot of people who would be willing to pay top dollar for a dish like that. The servings were big and a bit pricey, but it was well worth it. There were dessert breads, I went for the chocolate croissant Fatale: a dark chocolate. Paired with bittersweet dark chocolate chips it is simply divine. Though I would love to be selfish and keep Mercatto all to myself, the work of Chef is too good to stay hidden for long. There’s no doubt that Mercatto will quickly become the hottest reservation in town.
