The crew doted over us and made us feel like the real deal. As the place filled up they didn’t skip a beat. Families with small children, so called grown ups like us alike, the place was bustling with laughter and good times. The food was classic Italian and done to perfection. I had the carbonara and it was silky smooth and delicious. My wife’s clam spaghetti was fresh and the pasta was cooked perfectly. And the truffle pizza did t disappoint. One main issue is the lack of vegetarian options. Italian pasta and pizza dishes (obviously aside from the actual Carne sections on menus) are famed for having a huge selections that do not revolve around meat and fish in the ingredients. How about Ravioli in Butter and Sage Sauce? Cacio E Pepe (this is always a favourite in any Italian even with meat eaters). Gnocchi four cheeses? A few more options would go a long way. 1 in 4 people in London/Surrey follow a non meat diet so they are really missing a trick here. I am bored of eating the same few options here and as the booker we simply don't come here now because of this menu issue. Shame as the service and ambience is great.

The staff were very welcoming and super clean environment, with lovely little touches around the restaurant. Even the papadum sauces were super fresh tasting and different to the normal had it been an Indian. Very disappointing experience overall. We asked for one teapot but was given two teabags instead, and the lunch menu turned out to only be available from 12–1, which was never indicated anywhere on the menu. On top of that, one staff member was standing behind the bar wearing a headset, which didn’t feel professional, and another even had his wife and child behind the counter before leaving them to go outside. The whole atmosphere felt careless and unbothered. The food was just as bad. The mushroom was burnt, the hash brown tasted bland and odd, and the sausage was completely forgotten until after we had finished eating everything else. When it finally arrived, it tasted terrible and actually made me feel unwell. We had asked to swap one item for extra hash browns, but only received two in total, which wasn’t what we requested. We do go here when we go out for thai food. So much better than giggling squid. The only reason I did not give 5 stars for the food is because the prawns in bettel leaf was only one prawn cut up amongst the 5 parcels. On arrival there only appeared to a single person greeting patrons and seating them. It was at least 10 minutes before we were seated in what was basically an empty restaurant. However once seated, the staff were very attentive and friendly. The long wait was soon forgotten once the food arrived and OMG! For what is basically a "restaurant chain", this was some of the tastiest Thai food that I've eaten; the squid was cooked perfectly and the pork cheek just melted in the mouth. The service is friendly and attentive. The staff are typically knowledgeable about the menu, and the food has always arrived very quickly. That was just the start of this positive experience. We decided to book for our birthday’s and I’m so glad we did. From being greeting so handsomely at the door to being introduced to the waiting staff it was completely flawless and impeccable. To some these little details may well be overlooked but to us we were extremely balled over. We had the pleasure of being looked after by Winnie , Hannah ( who goodness knows how recited the ingredients so eloquently and precise ) and Emily. Winnie ensured that our every need was seen to and was extremely personable . Now the star of the show goes to the gifted chefs who seldom get recognition for the beautiful food they articulately put together. The food was beyond anything my palate has the pleasure of greeting ! I would definitely recommend the taster menu it’s incredible! I just want to take the opportunity to thank everyone involved for making our birthday a truly memorable one. The little touches like the confetti on the table and the personalised menu’s did not go unnoticed. With all this in mind I know this will be the start of many visits and can wholly see why this beautiful little restaurant is as popular as it is. A huge thanks again! Len & Maria.

Great ambiance and the place is not overcrowded with many tables, they have 2 floors but the place is not too big. I asked for extras to be added on our table and in under 30 minutes they delivered. We were very disappointed with the quality of the food. The sauces were all very thick and grainy with coconut chunks and extremely sweet. If you are staying here on foot, would highly recommend not staying out after dark as the walk back will be quite bad.

After the awful food we had we declined desserts, but told our waitress everything that was wrong with the meal. Although when I’d previously mentioned the small amount of edible pork and she just said “sorry about that!” with the bill she did speak to her Manager and we got our main courses refunded so only paid for the drinks we had and my friend did give the waitress a tip for sorting out the refund for us. Check-in was so smooth, and we were even able to have the room earlier than expected, after such a long flight! Thank you very much to Richard for accommodating this, he is an absolute star. Walking into our room, the air conditioning was a lovely treat, along with some classical music. I was pleasantly surprised to see a ‘sweet treat’ on the desk, being homemade cookies. I have intolerances, so it was reassuring to see the ingredients listed on the jar. The room was spotlessly clean and I can’t remember the last time I slept that comfortably - I need to know where they get their mattresses from. Dinner was superb, and again, the team were able to inform me of the gluten free options on the menu and were very knowledgeable. The bar had a lovely wide variety of drinks and non alcoholic options as well, it was very lively but had such a good atmosphere. To end our stay, we thoroughly enjoyed breakfast and even stayed for a light lunch whilst we waited for our friends to fetch us. Overall such a spectacular stay and we cannot wait to come back when we’re in Claygate again. Definitely recommend.

On recieving our food, 2 rump roasts and one pork belly, neither myself or the other guest eating the beef could chew or swallow the half a slice of beef we received, although the pork was superb, given the attitude of the majority of the staff we had dealings with we did not feel raising the issue would have been dealt with either professionally or meaningfully. The hash browns at breakfast are the size of a suit button, approximately. I am yet to receive the £50 refund for the opening of a bar tab. A young Lady whose name I was told was Savannah or similar and a gentleman who helped organise an extended stay given our first night's positive experience deserve recognition for their efforts, I will not comment on others, although there was a Lady manager on the first day, fastidious in here cleaning, who deserves merit. In closing I believe my car, a jaguar has been damaged in the car park as children until after 10 pm were allowed, with the knowledge of Will, to play cricket and run around the vehicles without intervention, the garden is, by signage around it to be cleared by 10 pm as stated, although some members of staff seemed to ignore this themselves and support others not respecting the clearly marked requests.

However, I don’t think the taste of the food was anywhere near as good as it should have been. My pork main was very salty and slightly overcooked and our wine and beer weren’t very cold at all. I eat out in high end restaurants regularly and I think you’re going to have to make sure atleast the basics are done in future like making sure your wines and beers are nice and cold (especially on a boiling hot day!) if you want to keep that Michelin star! Other courses were ok but nothing amazing. Presentation on all courses were better than the actual taste of the food. Disappointed really as had been looking forward to it for some time. I would give it another try though as friends that have also been had a much better experience.

Totally our fault that our pre paid booking had not gone through and our booking was not in the system, it was for the lunchtime set menu. The front of house lady offered us seats at the bar, which we accepted on the basis that there were no tables available. As it turned out there were a few cancelled bookings during our visit but we were never offered the chance to be reseated at them, which is puzzling at best! Credit goes to her for upselling the bar seats as being "unbookable" lol and a chance to witness the chefs at work. The food was excellent, the snack offerings we chose of truffle cheese crumpets and duck pate were delicious. The only minor issue we had was our starter of Pumpkin soup was served almost simultaneously with the snacks. It was noticeable that the soup bowls had not been pre-heated and as such the soup was lukewarm at best, once we started on it. I would expect that to be quite a faux pas for a Michelin star restaurant, admittedly we should have asked for it to be reheated. The restaurant manager was very pleasant and also the somellier was spot on with the wine. Would we visit again? Yes, but the minor details above were disappointing, regardless of how busy the restaurant was.

Our waiter was attentive and efficient, he explained the process of the using BBQ, but I have to admit I did have to prompt him to get the information else we would have had more food stuck to the BBQ grill. He stated that a BBQ serving was suitable for an individual; I would agree to that if you didn't want any starters or side dishes. We also added Gyoza and noodles; I think that it was a little too much, I think that a single platter for one is correct if you haven't eaten for a few days. The food itself was ok but was it great? No. I have had better sushi from the takeaway place near Kingston station. The pinot grigio was a poor example of this type of wine, tempered only by the fact that had been well chilled. Many pieces of my partner's steak were chewy with sinewy fat. The desserts were nice, however: light, fresh and not overly sweet. Such a disappointing evening for us on a rare date night. And when we got back our clothes asolutely reeked of the smell of cooking from the kitchens which was very surrpising to me 1. in this day and age for good aircon units and 2. from eating in a Japanese restaurant. We had one of the BBQ sets and some sushi - it was all delicious! Even the nori rice. The eel sushi was a surprising favourite for my partner who doesn't usually like eel.
