Not a great selection of "dine in" eateries in Newent and this one wasn't an obvious choice to us non-locals as the pub is on the main road before you turn into the town itself. However, we were very pleasantly surprised! Our group of 4 chaps turned up without a booking and the pub dining area was already pretty much full. But after a quick discussion with the lady in charge we were taken to the last free table (under promise of completing before a large group arrived in just over an hour). The staff were all really friendly and helpful, super-efficient and drinks were ordered and served within a very short time! With food orders taken and fulfilled equally efficiently we were impressed with the service. And the food was also very good! A decent variety of options and my pie, mash and gravy was both substantial and really tasty. General atmosphere inside was friendly and chatty with nothing too loud. Huge thanks to all the team there for a great meal experience.

My wife had the Wednesday Roast Beef and I had Faggots and mash, both very tasty and delicious, hidden little gem of a pub grub restaurant.
