Jaisalmer Fort is a massive 12th-century fortified city with ornate Jain temples featuring idols and stone carvings. The fort, established by Rawal Jaisal, offers a glimpse into the history of the city.
Jaisalmer Fort is truly a living wonder — a golden citadel rising from the desert sands! Unlike most forts in India, this one is alive with people, homes, shops, cafés, and temples inside its walls. Walking through its narrow lanes feels like stepping into a different era — full of history, culture, and local life. The fort’s honey-golden sandstone glows beautifully, especially during sunrise and sunset. The intricate carvings on the walls, balconies, and Jain temples are simply mesmerizing. Don’t miss the Raja Ka Mahal, Jain Temples, and the viewpoints overlooking the city — the panoramic view of Jaisalmer from the top is unforgettable. There are many rooftop cafés inside the fort where you can enjoy a cup of chai while watching the desert sunset — it’s pure magic. The locals are friendly, and most shops sell lovely handicrafts and souvenirs.

I visited Jaisalmer Fort last weekend and it was an amazing experience! The fort beautifully showcases the rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture of Rajasthan. Walking through the golden stone pathways felt like traveling back in time. The intricate carvings, ancient structures, and colorful local markets inside the fort are truly fascinating. One of the highlights was the night view — with the fort lit up in golden lighting, it looked absolutely stunning! The illuminated walls create an eye-catching view that’s truly unforgettable. The sunset and night scenes together make this place even more magical. Overall, a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Rajasthan. Highly recommended!

Visited Jaisalmer Fort in the first week of November, and it was an unforgettable experience. The moment you enter, the magnificent built quality and stunning Rajasthani architecture take you back in time. The golden sandstone structure truly lives up to its name—Sonar Quila—glowing beautifully under the desert sun. What makes this fort unique is that it is a “Living Fort”, where thousands of people still reside inside. Walking through its narrow lanes, temples, houses, shops, and historic corners feels like stepping into a vibrant, functioning world preserved within ancient walls. I learned many new things for the first time, especially about how the fort is designed to withstand heat, its smart water storage systems, and the intricate carvings that showcase the brilliance of local craftsmanship. The views from the top are breathtaking, offering a panoramic look at the city of Jaisalmer. A must-visit for anyone interested in history, culture, and architecture. Highly recommended for all travelers exploring Rajasthan!

We visited Jaisalmer Fort and I absolutely loved it. It’s a must-visit place in the city. The whole fort is built with beautiful yellow sandstone, and the carvings inside the lanes are amazing to see. There are lots of small shops, cafés, and local stalls inside, so it feels lively. What makes it more special is that people still live inside the fort, which gives it a unique vibe you feel like you’re walking through a living heritage site. There’s so much to see inside, from temples to viewpoints. A little history: Jaisalmer Fort, also known as Sonar Quila (Golden Fort), was built in 1156 AD by Raja Rawal Jaisal. It’s one of the few living forts in the world and is famous for its Rajput architecture and golden glow during sunrise and sunset. Overall, a vibrant and beautiful fort that you shouldn’t miss in Jaisalmer.

Jaisalmer Fort, also known as Sonar Quila or the Golden Fort, is a magnificent architectural marvel built in 1156 AD by Rawal Jaisal. This fort is a unique blend of Rajput and Mughal styles, constructed with golden-yellow sandstone that gleams spectacularly under the sunlight, giving it the nickname "Golden Fort." The fort's massive 2.5-mile-long defensive walls feature 99 bastions and grand gates like Suraj Pol, designed strategically for protection and warfare, but also ornate to exhibit royal grandeur.Inside the fort, narrow alleys weave through beautifully carved havelis, ancient temples—especially the intricate Jain temples dating from the 12th to 15th centuries—and palaces, each telling stories of the Bhati Rajput legacy and medieval craftsmanship. The fort is not just a fortress but a living town with shops, homes, and cultural heritage sites.Sunrise and sunset from the fort offer especially breathtaking views. As the sun rises or sets, the golden sandstone radiates warm hues, casting a magical glow over the fort and the surrounding desert town. These are prime moments for photography and experiencing the ethereal atmosphere of the fort and the desert together. For visitors, a must-visit spot is Anand Lassi, located right at the beginning of the fort. Anand Lassi is famous for its special Kesar Makhaniya Lassi, a rich and creamy saffron-infused delight considered by many as the best lassi tasted in Jaisalmer. Generously portioned and refreshingly chilled, it is a perfect treat to enjoy while exploring the fort.Overall, Jaisalmer Fort offers a majestic glimpse into Rajasthan's historic splendor, architectural excellence, and cultural vitality, complemented by natural beauty and culinary delights like Anand Lassi. It is an essential destination for any traveler to Jaisalmer .

Kothari’s Patwon Ki Haveli in Jaisalmer is one of the most impressive and beautifully preserved havelis in Rajasthan. The intricate carvings, jharokhas, and grand architecture showcase the richness of old Rajasthani art and design. Inside, visitors can explore rooms filled with antique furniture, paintings, and decor that reflect the lifestyle of the Patwa family. The entry is ticketed, and hiring a local guide helps in understanding its history better. Though it can get crowded during tourist season, the beauty and craftsmanship make it absolutely worth visiting. A true gem of Jaisalmer’s heritage!

Kothari Patwon Ki Haveli in Jaisalmer is a mesmerizing testament to Rajasthan’s golden heritage, renowned for its exquisite architecture and historical significance. Located near the majestic Jaisalmer Fort, this cluster of five havelis is famed for its intricate stone carvings, ornate balconies, and handsome courtyards. Visitors are struck by the beautiful yellow sandstone façade, eye-catching mirror work, and grand rooms adorned with vibrant frescoes and antique furniture. The craftsmanship—mixing Rajputana and Mughal styles—is evident in every detailed motif and delicate latticework, reflecting the affluence of its erstwhile merchant inhabitants. Each floor houses restored sections like the temple, living area, and drawing rooms, allowing tourists to see the opulent lifestyle of the golden age of Jaisalmer. Although navigating the narrow passages and steep steps can be challenging, the atmosphere remains tranquil, especially during early mornings. We visited Patwon Ki Haveli in Jaisalmer and really liked the place. As you walk toward it, you’ll see many beautiful haveli style houses made from yellow sandstone, giving that classic Golden City look. The only downside is that the gali leading to the haveli is a bit dirty, but once you reach the site, it’s worth it. Patwon Ki Haveli is actually a group of five havelis, built in the early 1800s by a wealthy Jain merchant, Guman Chand Patwa, for his sons. It’s known for its detailed carvings, jharokhas, and stunning architecture that shows how rich Jaisalmer’s history and craftsmanship are. Overall, a beautiful place to explore if you’re in Jaisalmer, especially for architecture and photography lovers.

Patwon Ki Haveli is not a single structure but a cluster of five magnificent havelis located in the heart of Jaisalmer, renowned as the "Golden City" of Rajasthan. Commissioned in 1805 by Guman Chand Patwa, an extremely wealthy merchant and trader of gold, silver, and brocade, this colossal mansion complex is the first and largest haveli built in Jaisalmer. Constructed entirely from golden-yellow sandstone, the havelis are celebrated for their breathtaking architecture, which is intricately carved with hundreds of elaborate jharokhas (balconies) and delicate lattice work, showcasing the unparalleled craftsmanship of the era. The sheer opulence and scale of Patwon Ki Haveli stand as a lasting testament to the immense prosperity and influence of Jaisalmer's mercantile community during the 19th century. This haveli has two parts. One is private property another one is controlled by government. Tickets of Government part is 55/- for Indian and private one is 150/- Private one is far far better than government part.
SAIKAT M — Google review
Several separate Patwon Ki Havelis stand adjacent to each other on the left as you enter through the main gate. The first haveli is the most popularly featured online and houses most of the museum collections, though it is privately owned. The last haveli near the entrance is managed and maintained by the government. Overall, the interiors aren't particularly unique and the displays are quite similar to what you see in the fort. However, the exterior façade is truly impressive with stunning and intricate carvings.

Gadsisar Lake is one of Jaisalmer's most beautiful and quiet locations. The lake exudes a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere, ideal for spending time with friends and family. There is also a Shiv Mandir nearby where you can receive blessings and enjoy a spiritual ambiance. Boating facilities are available, and the views from the boat are simply breathtaking, particularly at sunrise and sunset. When I arrived, there was a Teej Mela going on, which made the atmosphere bright and energetic. Due to the fair, the throng was large, but it added to the joyous atmosphere. Nathmal Ki Haveli is a 19th-century privately owned mansion in Jaisalmer, known for its intricate exterior carvings and unique architecture. It was the former residence of Diwan Mohata Nathmal, the prime minister of Jaisalmer. Interestingly, it was designed by two Muslim jeweler brothers instead of traditional builders. Each brother constructed their respective side of the haveli to look similar but with subtle differences upon closer inspection.
It is not open to tourist. Family lives there. We can only enter and see middle passage. Local items shop is established in that passage. Nathmal Ki Haveli is another gem in the heart of Jaisalmer! 🏰 The intricate carvings on yellow sandstone are truly breathtaking — every inch of the haveli showcases amazing craftsmanship. It beautifully blends Rajasthani and Islamic architectural styles. The two brothers who built it created perfectly symmetrical yet slightly different sides, which makes it even more fascinating. The place is well-preserved, and the guides share interesting stories about its history. A must-visit for architecture and history lovers exploring the Golden City! ✨

Nathmal Ki Haveli is undoubtedly beautiful from the outside, with detailed yellow stone carvings that reflect the craftsmanship Jaisalmer is famous for. However, it’s not really open to tourists, the haveli is privately owned and still occupied by a family, and visitors are only allowed to enter the narrow middle passage. That area mainly has small shops selling local items. It was disappointing to learn that the family seems to allow only "specific"(;p) tourists to see the interiors. If you’re short on time, you can easily skip this spot and focus on other havelis or attractions in Jaisalmer that offer a fuller experience

The Thar Heritage Museum, established by local historian Laxmi Narayan Khatri, showcases a diverse collection of artifacts and folk art dedicated to Jaisalmer's desert heritage. The museum features ancient marine fossils, weaponry, manuscripts detailing trade between local merchants and Asian travelers, coins, paintings, utensils, instruments, costumes, and information about customs such as opium consumption and rituals for birth, marriage, and death.
More than a museum, it’s a whisper from the desert’s past. The Thar Heritage Museum isn’t just a place to see—it’s a place to feel. It’s a celebration of desert life, a tribute to forgotten stories, and a reminder that history lives not just in grand palaces but in humble homes and heartfelt tales. A must-visit for anyone seeking the soul of Rajasthan beyond the sand dunes and forts.

This place is a tiny little gem, waiting to be explored by culture enthusiasts. It is a very small museum, an underwhelming room really, of all things Rajasthan! It has been curated out of a personal collection. Entry is free and you will find Mr Shiva there, who will happily guide you through the artifacts and their significance. There are age-old photographs, tools, weapons, utensils and many other local things to aquaint you about Rajasthani culture and village lifestyle. I went there with my wife and 2 young kids, with absolute nil expectations. But we ended up spending about a good 30-35 mins, lost in conversation with Shiva. And each one of us came out completely entertained. Do visit this place if you have 20-30 mins at hand and an appetite for culture and history.

This museum deserves to have more people visit it. The proprietor of the museum gave us a wealth of understanding about how the desert people and city people lived. Because we visited forts and other museums, we've often seen how the wealthy lived, but his explanation and artifacts really helped us get a better understanding of the everyday people in the Jaisalmer / Thar desert region. It's very intimate. And very eclectic. And he does let you handle some of the artifacts, which is a real treat. Both he and the assistant were charming and responsive to our questions. Rough Guide recommended it to us, but I think their description does not do it justice! It's an easy walk from the castle or a tuk tuk ride. From the castle, about it 1.5 km. Visiting this museum and chatting with the proprietor, and getting a better understanding of the people around us, has been one of the high points of our three week visit around Rajasthan.

🏜️ The Thar Heritage Museum – Jaisalmer’s Hidden Treasure of Culture & Stories Tucked away in the golden lanes of Jaisalmer, The Thar Heritage Museum is a tiny gem that packs a big cultural punch! Don’t expect a grand building or shiny displays — instead, step into a cozy, soulful space filled with Rajasthan’s history, pride, and everyday magic. This charming little museum has been lovingly curated from a personal collection of artifacts — from ancient photographs and tools to weapons, utensils, and traditional crafts that whisper stories of desert life. The real highlight, however, is Laxmi Narayan Khatri , the heart and soul of this place. His passion and storytelling bring every object to life. What we thought would be a quick visit turned into a fascinating 30–35 minutes of conversation, laughter, and discovery. Even our kids were completely engaged! Entry is free, but the experience is priceless. 💛 If you love exploring culture, history, and hidden gems, don’t miss this little wonder — it’s like stepping into the living heartbeat of Rajasthan.

The Trio Restaurant is a popular dining spot in Jaisalmer, offering a diverse range of cuisines including North Indian, Rajasthani, Chinese, and continental dishes. The rooftop setting provides charming views of the fort and an opportunity to savor traditional dishes like tandoori thali. This age-old restaurant exudes regal charm with its high ceiling tent and windowed walls that overlook the old bazaar.
A very beautiful place with great food and a rich menu. The atmosphere in the place is good and pleasant, and the service is excellent. Before we arrived, we called to reserve a table, but when we got there, the host claimed he hadn’t approved the reservation (even though he had), and his attitude was unpleasant. However, he eventually seated us at an excellent table, and we had a wonderful time. Overall, aside from the experience of arriving at the place, everything was excellent.

The restaurant is very simple. Interior wise. The service is good. Not very impressive as I had ordered bajra Roti, but they forgot and they got the plain roti when requested and reminded they said that they forgot and made few excuses upon my request. They provided, but overall, the experience was good because the food was just awesome. It is very simply located outside the Mandir Palace Hotel. If you want to have good food, this is definitely the place to visit out again. Love to go for the taste of the food.

This place was on many websites as a must visit and boy did it deliver. The restaurant is located on the first floor about 15 mins from the Jaisalmer fort. The ambiance is lovely and the staff was polite and courteous. We ordered the thar special mutton and it was delicious. The mutton was succulent and well cooked. The flavours of the ghee and spices was coming through beautifully. We ordered the Naan to go with the gravy and it was good too. For desert we got the caramel custard which was nice as it was not too sweet. Definitely a must visit to try some really good food!

Visited Trio Restaurant for the second time, The service was amazing as usual Ordered Peanut masala to start with which looked amazing and tasted good as well, Later ordered for murgh tikka which looked good but the taste was average, and along with murgh tikka asked for tawa roti. Which was good though the basket of roti had an underlined of tissue which was sticking to the roti because of heat. Would highly suggest to use a similar linen as the napkins for the Rotis.

The restaurant is just adjacent to mandir palace (ITC welcome heritage). It was christmas day when we visited, not too full and seating was easily available. Food took some time to arrive. No major complains. We had heard a lot about laal maas, but didn't find anything spl. and also appeared that food colouring has been used. The soups ordered were not upto the mark. Naan & other items were ok. The Christmas cake was complementary, kids liked it. As the main sitting area is not on ground floor, those having knee or other walking issues will have difficulty. That's common issue across Jaisalmer.

Rajasthani restaurant
Desert Boy's Dhani is a charming Indian vegetarian/vegan restaurant in Jaisalmer, offering al fresco terrace dining with traditional decor and cultural performances. The rustic setting resembles a traditional rural village, complete with thatched huts and low seating under starlit skies. Guests can indulge in Rajasthani cuisine while enjoying engaging puppet shows and live folk music and dance performances.
Dal bati and churma is best ...love it .

“A lovely place to enjoy good food, excellent service, and beautiful surroundings. A must-visit spot for anyone exploring the desert.”

The ambiance and traditional Rajasthani setup at Desert Boy’s Dhani were lovely, and the food tasted good overall. However, our experience could have been better. The service was a bit slow, and the portion of dal served with each plate was quite limited. When we requested a little more, we were told it would be charged extra, which was disappointing since dal is a key part of the meal. We had ordered 5 Dal Baati Churma plates but received only 2 papads, and even those were not full pieces as mentioned. It would be nice if the restaurant improved portion sizes and ensured consistency between what’s promised and what’s served. Overall, the food was tasty, but the service and quantity management could definitely be improved.

Vikram Singh served us. We ate one of the best Daal Bati Churma in Desert Boys Dhani. Vikram was very polite and hospitable. We wish him the best in life

I being a pure non vegetarian, if was asked to eat in a pure vegetarian restaurant because the food was good, i would have given them a piece of my mind for i haven't tasted any good food in any vegetarian restaurant. But here i really would recommend it to everyone. The food is satisfying to both the mind and the body. Certain things you need to experience rather than reading so come here and experience good food in an excellent harmony with the nature.

Hi, Today we went to this hotel and we had lovely experience there. They served us food "dal bati churma" and it was very delicious seriously. And the best part of it was those little tiny tables. It was such a wonderful place and chutni was very tasty 😋. Thanks alot!!!

We had lunch few times there. The place has an amazing open sitting area which was super enjoyable during January time. We ordered authentic Rajasthani food like Dal Bati, Ker Sangri, Gatte ki subzi etc... The food had little modern touch we could have been avoided to keep the authenticity. The owner Arvind was an amazing host and they took care of all our needs

This restaurant has very good atmosphere. The interior of Rajasthan is very good sense and can eat on the lovely patio. I ate delicious Indian foods at a reasonable price. The manager is very kind and honest. When I go to Jaisalmer , I go to this restaurant always. He is an important friend. The staffs are friendly and helpful. You can get excellent service. I recommend it highly. I remember happy time at this restaurant.

Additionally, it offers homestyle Rajasthani thalis served in a cozy setting with turban-clad staff and an opportunity to bond with fellow diners.
Nice place..loved the ambience and City view! Food was good too. Jamssed ji served us our food. Nice man. He told us stories of the city and was quick to provide good service. Good hospitality even though it was off season. The Korean menu seems interesting. Is on my list to try the next time I go!

Food quality is awesome. At nominal prices. The behaviour of staff is very polite. Actually this is a hotel and we reached its restaurant around 11pm. Usually the restaurant closes at 11 pm but then also they welcome us and served us food with no compromise in the quality. Their service is really awesome. And our experience in Jaisalmer is great. Local people always ready to help the tourist.

Tasty sushi and fresh Korean food. High quality considering we're on the far side of India! Staff are friendly and not pushy. It's a great spot for the sunset - it was funny to watch the crowd at sunset point right behind us.

Located near Sunset Point, Gaji's Restaurant features a full menu of delicious Korean dishes, which you’ll have a hard time finding elsewhere in most Indian restaurant scenes. . They offer several Chinese and Japanese items as well, along with a few Indian delicacies, but they really shine in their Korean dishes like the famous Sushi, Kimchi and the bibimbap – a signature Korean dish served as a bowl of warm white rice, topped with soy sauce, soybean paste, and any variety of meat, egg, and vegetable ingredients. . Their location also provides an amazing panoramic view of the city, making Gaji’s a go-to for both its rare Korean fare and rarified atmosphere.

Rooftop restaurant with good selection of Continental, Indian and local Rajasthan dishes. Also available healthy dishes. Rajasthan Thali portion is so big, what is better shared with 2 people. Staff is friendly and view to fort is worth to check out.

Italian restaurant
Jaisal Italy Restaurant offers a unique fusion dining experience, blending the flavors of Italy with the essence of Jaisalmer. Located at the base of the majestic Jaisalmer Fort, this charming eatery provides a refreshing twist on traditional Italian cuisine by incorporating local ingredients and spices into classic dishes. The restaurant features a simple yet inviting interior and an open rooftop area for outdoor dining with views of the fort.
Located Very unusual and hidden gem on the entrance of Jesalmer fort main gate. Exterior Both the dining area inside as well as outside with an enjoyable view of the fort while taking sip of cold drinks in the afternoon or taking dinner at night, beautiful view. Interior Very well maintained and amazingly decorated with arts and wall hangings. 2-3 different types of seating area to enjoy the food. Food We have ordered sandwiches, pastas and cold coffees, Sandwich dressing style is very different and very tasty, The pasta is also well cooked and delicious, Cold coffee was very good in taste Service Service was good and staff were humble and very polite. I strongly recommend to enjoy your meals with a great view of the fort.

Place is situated inside the fort, right after entering from the main gate. Location is great but food was not good at all. We ordered white sauce pasta but the pasta had very bad garlic after flavour and was not edible. Its good place to just relax and sip coffee but not recommended for food.

Absolutely loved everything about this place! The food was bursting with authentic Italian flavors, and every dish tasted freshly made with love. The ambience was amazing and inviting, and the staff made us feel so welcome. One of the best Italian dining experiences I’ve had — can’t wait to come back!

I had cannelloni with veg and cheese. It didn't have tomato sauce but was very cheesy with a slight Indian flavour, I really enjoyed it. For dessert I had custard with mixed fruit, delicious. A little pricey but good portions and well worth it.

Totally a fun place to hang out. The pizzas are so well made with perfect texture, freshness and taste! The staff is attentive efficient and very friendly! The view of the fort adds up to the whole experience. So try their coffees, freshly brewed as per your taste buds!

Amazing food ! It's not so easy to find good italian food in India. You can go there with your eyes closed. I took the Lasagna and I am fully satisfied. I truly recommand it !!

This place is the best in Jaisalmer! They cook italian food but also local food! Anything you’ll order will be amazing (as I’ve been in Jaisalmer for a long time and I’ve almost tried all the menu). And they have the best views of the ford from their terrace. Don’t miss it!

The food was quite good—flavorful and well-prepared, with beautifully presented dishes. However, the overall atmosphere left much to be desired. While the entrance was aesthetically pleasing, the outdoor setting didn’t quite match up. The restaurant is located on a rooftop, which could have been charming, but the air felt dusty and unpleasant. As night fell, the dim lighting made it difficult to fully appreciate the food. Unfortunately, the dustiness was quite noticeable, which took away from the experience.
Booska H — Google review
The location and ambience are truly amazing — perfect for Instagram-worthy photos. However, the service and food were a huge letdown. There seemed to be only 2–3 waiters, and they were not only inattentive but also quite rude. We ordered the Jaisalmer Chicken, which unfortunately was served rotten. When we reported it, the waiter didn’t even bother to respond. The cocktail we ordered was also extremely diluted. Overall, a very disappointing experience. Visit only if you’re looking for good pictures, not good food or service.

The Chicken 65 was drenched in black mustard seeds — not just a bit overdone, it was a full-on assault on the taste buds. Absolutely inedible. Whoever thought that was a good idea clearly has no clue how the dish is supposed to be made. As for the nachos — don't insult your customers by dumping tomato ketchup and calling it salsa. That’s not fusion, it’s just laziness and zero effort. This place has officially killed any curiosity I had about their mutton dishes. If you can’t get basic starters right, I’m not risking anything else. Worse than anything I’ve had in Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur — even Jaipur street food joints do better. Avoid unless you're into culinary punishment. #please spare the beer experience #
