I told her I was putting my bags in the car and she would the key in short order. When I came back in, I told her that chasing someone is not good business practice and especially not when there was at least one couple directly outside the door witnessing the whole event. Instead of just admitting fault, she told me there was no one around and people leave with the room key all the time so she was justified in her behavior. I went back and forth with her and her excuse was that they were short staffed...
