Experience Barnsley Museum & Discovery Centre is a charming museum that offers a hands-on experience dedicated to the heritage and culture of the region. The museum features interactive exhibits, films, and a fascinating collection of artifacts donated by the people of Barnsley. Visitors can explore the history of Barnsley from Neolithic times to the modern age through excellent interactive displays. It's a must-visit for those interested in delving into the rich history of this area.
A very welcoming free museum. Wonderful for children with all sorts to look at. Personally I found the local celebrity display case with Charlie Williams original This is Your Life book particularly interesting. It's a small museum and doesn't take long to look around so well worth your time to pop in. There was a nicely stocked gift shop with reasonable prices.

A wonderful place to have a look around and learn about Barnsley. Not just the town, but the people and their stories. There are many fascinating objects to see, some hundreds of years old and some more modern.
Martyn M — Google review
Lovely visit with my toddler, there’s a lovely little play corner where we spent most our visit playing in the car, reading books and playing pretend with the shop stuff. Thank you for a great visit.
M T — Google review
I went to Barnsley museum to see a exhibition about Tutankhamen. It was one small room and most of the artifacts wasn't even real they were fakes. it took no longer than 25 minutes to see the fake artefacts and I was so disappointed and felt like the museum didn't really put enough effort in to the exhibition.

Absolutely blown away by this Museum.. its fabulous!!! Very interactive for kids of all ages.. there's a lego trail at the moment, perfect for toddlers..and some absolutely fascinating ancient artefacts found in and around Barnsley.. Country park
Wentworth Castle Gardens, a stunning National Trust site in Yorkshire, covers 60 acres of beautifully curated gardens and parkland surrounding a grand stately home. The Grade-listed gardens date back to the 18th century and offer varied planting styles to explore. In addition to the Victorian conservatory and Stainborough Castle ruins, visitors can discover follies, monuments, and ancient woodland within the 500-acre estate.
Great place to walk. The park is stunning, the gardens are well kept, and there are lots of easy to walk paths for wheelchairs and buggy. I was disappointed the house wasn't open to exploring. It's only open 1 day a month and has to be booked in advance. They were out of maps when we went thankfully it's quite well signposted. It's a lot of uphill walking. The cafe, however, was pretty poor choices and expensive so would suggest taking your own food and drink. Also, there are no gift shops that I could see.
Zoe L — Google review
Nice visit today. Please note that the main house is only open to the public once a month, see website, but makes for a lovely backdrop. I recommend using the website that contains all of the features. They have a nice cafe and bookshop, also in the long barn. The walks are many. The gardens are lovely. But note, seasonal. The views are tremendous. If you walk up the hill, you will find the castle. It is, in reality, a folly but very impressive. For those who are able, you can climb the steps up one of the towers for excellent views. As said, lovely walks through the gardens and around the estate, where you can see much wildlife roaming around. There are many architectural things to see all around the estate, so if you're able, we would thoroughly recommend them.
Stephen B — Google review
Enjoyable visit here. Husband walked the parklands and found the deer. Parents and i liked the gardens and conservatory. Also the dragon at the top of the castle (if you can do steps). Buggy shuttle was very useful. Lunch at the cafe was nice if a bit pricey. Thank you to the chap on the reception desk too.
Susan K — Google review
This is well worth a return visit. It has ample parking, situated on a fairly steep sloped site, it has a dog friendly cafe, the grand house has only limited viewing dates, has well presented gardens, a deer park with wooded places to walk, has assisted access from the entrance by on site electric courtesy buggy, a mock castle (folly) a play area and scenic views.
Stephen B — Google review
Wether you like this NT place will depend what you want out of it. Great views and walks, tick , an open country house (only once a month or so) nice gardens (badly maintained) castle ( terrible) . This site is hilly , there is transport to help but walking around it may be a challenge if you have walking difficulties. The fact that the house (bow a college) isn't open regularly , is a major drawback. If you want to see it you will need to do some homework on open days. The formal gardens were badly maintained (apart from the fernery) , overgrown and a huge disappointment. The castle which is a folly/fake is of a laughably bad design. There is a tower to climb which again highlights the beautiful scenery. But the whole property left me frustrated and disappointed. There are the usual NT things on site, a reasonable cafe that if you are sitting outside shows off the great views. What you want from this site will determine what you get from it
Kevin M — Google review
A beautiful place. You can spend around two hours here enjoying the large grassland, meeting the sheep and fresh air.

A Hidden Gem in Barnsley – Wentworth Castle Gardens We visited Wentworth Castle Gardens today (Sunday), and it was a brilliant day out – peaceful, scenic, and full of charm for all ages. One important tip before you go: don’t trust your sat nav blindly – it’ll try to take you to a non-used entrance. Instead, follow the brown tourist signs to get to the correct access and car park. Speaking of the car park, it was pretty full when we arrived, but there’s an overflow car park just up a steep-ish grassy field – so be ready for a little hill start if you’re parking up there! There was no queue to get in, and the steady walk up to the grand house was a lovely warm-up. If you or someone in your group has limited mobility, there’s a shuttle bus available to take you up the slope – a thoughtful touch that makes the gardens more accessible. One of the first things you’ll see is the café (very handy for a mid-morning coffee), along with an impressively large adventure play fort that’ll instantly capture the kids’ attention. There’s also a conveniently-placed ice cream van — suspiciously positioned as if it knows exactly when your kids’ legs will stop working. 😄 The café is excellent – the staff are friendly and efficient, and you won’t be waiting long to get your food or drinks. There are plenty of benches outside, so you can relax with a cake and a coffee in the sunshine and take in the surroundings. The walk through the gardens is just beautiful. You pass by the grand house with lovely views over the valley beyond. The landscaping is thoughtfully done, and the winding paths lead you toward the large greenhouse, which was beautifully restored in 2019. Take a few minutes to pop inside – there’s some interesting history about the house and the gardens that’s worth a read. From there, you continue through the hedge-walled gardens, eventually arriving at the Victorian garden, which is undergoing some renovation but remains a peaceful, serene spot to sit and unwind. Further up the gardens, you’ll find a few surprises – like the old stone entryway (now closed off) and, at the top, the old castle ruins. You can even climb up one of the towers – though be warned, it’s a narrow, twisting climb with two-way traffic. Think of it as a polite game of “after you!” with strangers. 😄 If you’re okay with heights, the views from the top are well worth the effort – even if your knees aren’t entirely convinced afterward! There are plenty of places for picnics, whether you’re chasing the sun or looking for a shady retreat. We ended our visit with the woodland walk, a lovely path filled with blooming rhododendrons – the scent in the air this time of year is just gorgeous. If you’ve got a few hours to spare, kids who love to explore, or you simply enjoy a leisurely walk surrounded by nature and history, Wentworth Castle Gardens is a fantastic day out. Highly recommended.
Christian C — Google review
Beautiful place, well worth a visit, especially good on a sunny day. Cafe has lots of seating and a nice playground for the kids. We didn't do the parkland, only the grounds but still plenty of garden, grounds and views to see during the walk around.

Absolutely gorgeous place to visit! Came with my toddler and there was plenty for him to do. The kids corner was so comfortable and made our day. The members of staff are really friendly and came out of their way to come say hello and make us feel welcome. Will definitely be recommending and coming back.

Free to visit but accepts donations. Lovely little gallery in Barnsley. Has shop, café, attractive patio garden and additional upstairs gallery. Friendly staff. When I visited they had an exhibition upstairs by blacksmith, Sam Sherborne, very skilled and humorous pieces. I can highly recommend the café, with its homemade creations, the cakes are totally delicious. There is a seated patio area with an extended garden with a few more exterior sculptures, bird feeding stations and a living wall of plants. Worth a visit.

Barnsley Metrodome Waterpark, also known as Calypso Cove, is a thrilling waterpark in Yorkshire that offers an exciting day out for families. The park features daring flumes, sensational slides, and a pirate-themed play zone where kids can embark on an adventure and search for hidden treasures. With its fun pirate theme, the waterpark provides entertainment for the whole family.
Fantastic day out for the family. Not over priced for the swimming and they limit the amount of people in the pool at any one time so it’s not overly crowded. Great slides, wave machine, children’s pool is real big with lots to do. In the centre there is an arcade and bowling alley we didn’t use them but they looked really good. On site restaurants serving a verity of foot there is a burger restaurant and a fish and chips restaurant. Great day out for all the family.
The G — Google review
We went today to Calypso cove , the last day of the school holidays (1st Sept) expecting it to be brilliant just like the adverts on social media. Well the pool is filthy really filthy, there is rust everywhere! The 3/4 slides were closed! The wave machine was not working so no waves! We still paid full price, and additionally I wanted to go in the sauna but no! £19 they wanted for me to use that, we are not in London, we are in barnsley! I shall not be recommending this place to anyone unfortunately. However if you do want a really good water park sand castles Blackpool is the place to go we was there a few days ago!
Aaron B — Google review
The kids had a brilliant time which is what matters most!! The toddler struggled a little as she got bored of toddler pool quite quickly and was unable to access the other pools without my assistance. Some additional sensory toys and slides for toddlers would be great. The 9 year old had lots of fun and enjoyed the slides. As an adult I felt it was too busy, especially when they closed two of the pools and everyone migrated into the wave pool. The prices are reasonable and 90 minutes was definitely long enough. The showers weren't as clean as I'd like, but to be expected with the high volume of people. Would suggest wearing those water shoes. All in all a good experience and I would visit again.
Neen C — Google review
Only place like it anywhere near Leeds. Been going for many years. Would benefit from a good clean and spruce up. Everything high up - pipework, slides, etc look like they haven't been washed down in too long. Wave pool out of action for the second time - disappointing. Changing rooms were very cold on this visit. However! We still really enjoy the place and this is all just feedback. We'll still keep coming back.
CJ L — Google review
Went on a Sunday. So would expect it to be busy. Changing room were so clean. Staff were really friendly. Plenty of stuff to keep everyone entertained. Didn't have to wait long to get a go on most of the slides. Had an amazing time. Would recommend to all. Booked in advance and would recommend to do so before going.
Will H — Google review
Definitely better than the 4.3 average stars it currently has. It's a touch tired in the changing room area but my daughter and I loved our visit on the whole. Something for everyone and every age group, our 1.5 hour time slot flew by. The three main flumes were fast and thrilling without being terrifying. The diving board area was good fun. Normal main pool with lane swimming section. 4 lane waterslides to race down. Definitely be back and we live an hour away, so I think it's worth the drive over.
Robert B — Google review
Great pool for swimming lanes. Have visited many times with my young kids to come to calypso cove. Its just fantastic fun with lots of things to do. Wave pool, water slides, diving pool amongst many other. One of, if not THE best indoor water park in the country

Great venue, been here for swimming, watch the boxing and watching dance. Never had a problem parking, access to the building and a quick waking distance to the shopping centre.

Nestled within The Glass Works, The Salt House is a vibrant addition to Barnsley's culinary landscape that opened its doors in 2022. This lively venue specializes in creative cocktails and delectable tapas, making it a must-visit this Spring! With operating hours from noon until 9 PM, guests can indulge in an impressive selection of tequila—reportedly the largest in Yorkshire.
Salt House has quickly become my go-to spot, especially for a perfect Sunday dinner! Every visit feels like a treat, thanks to the wonderful food and cocktails that never disappoint. The menu has something for everyone, with dishes that are both comforting and innovative. You can really tell how much care and quality go into every plate. If you’re looking for a place that gets everything right from food and drinks to ambiance, Salt House is the one to try. I’ll definitely be back and can’t recommend it enough. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Visited for bottomless bubbles, basically bottomless brunch without the cocktails but lots of prosecco! Arrived early and sat at our table, the waitresss was good and attentive when it came to drinks but we had to ask to order food and when we did it took an hour for half of it to arrive. After chasing the remainder we got it after 70 minutes so felt very rushed at the end. The food was nice enough but not really worth the long wait. The music was very loud making conversations difficult. Overall, an ok venue but there are better for a similar price point.
Kerry J — Google review
After being shown to our table an hour late, 3/4 main meals came 15 minutes before the starter without sides (chips). After informing the waiter that we didn’t receive what we had ordered he informed Kayleigh the manager on shift at the time. After she was informed, my partner and our friends watched as she shrugged her shoulders and turned her back on the waiter, he never returned to our table. I informed Kayleigh that I had seen her dismiss the waiter and that it was very poor from management to treat their customers in this manner. Please avoid this place if your looking for a memorable meal out.

We went for my daughters 19th birthday.. My daughter was asked for id, which we were fine with, but when we told the waiter that we were there for our daughter’s 19th birthday, he simply ignored this and just checked the id…. As we were there as a family, we would have expected more… We were left waiting for a good while until finally the waiter returned to ask if we wanted drinks.. after waiting another while for our drinks while the staff seemed to chat and joke around, we finally got our drinks.. After waiting another while for a while longer, we were asked if we were ready to order.. we ordered our food and when it finally came we did actually enjoy it… Whilst enjoying our food we were again left waiting for more drinks… we actually managed to order more drinks when the waiter could be bothered to leave his chatting with the rest of the staff.. The food was good but the staff were terrible.. I would return here if it wasn’t for the ignorant and incompetent staff.. If this was my business, I would seriously consider a full change of personnel… The staff are letting you down massively…

Came Saturday evening for bottomless brunch (18:30) Was amazing from start to finish. Was sceptical seeing the reviews. But the cocktails just kept on coming constant. Had 4 drinks at one point, must have had 10 porn stars n tried 2 other drinks as-well i think, so well worth your money, our server was great wish we got her name!
Cheryl D — Google review
Booked a bottomless brunch for £42. First drink arrived after waiting 25 mins, but couldn't order another until we were half way down the drink. After an hour we'd had 2 drinks each (4 between 2 of us). Spoke to the manager who came with a printed receipt challenging what we'd had to drink. Don't waste your money.
Michael G — Google review
Worst bottomless brunch experience i’ve ever had. The whole table had to finish drinks before they even come over to ask for another order. It took 20minutes at a time for a round of drinks to come, in the 90mins of bottomless we got 4 drinks served, it was terrible value for money and I would not be returning for a bottomless brunch. The waiter wasn’t attentive and if you did catch someone’s eye you were often met with ‘your not my table’ even when it came to getting the bill… which they couldn’t even calculate properly. The vibes were there the drinks were not, luckily i had good company so the night wasn’t a total disappointment

Dolly's Desserts Market Kitchen is a family-run sweet haven by Janine Davis and Charlotte Smark, inspired by their successful venture Ice Queens. The menu boasts an array of treats from crepes to pancake stacks, sundaes to waffles, all made with their homemade gelato using ingredients from Sweet Treats downstairs. Visitors rave about the generous portions and reasonable prices, making it worth every penny. The strawberry milkshake has even been hailed as one of the best ever tasted.
Lovely customer service, staff are nice and friendly. We enjoyed our order - cookie dough and vanilla matcha. Shop has very nice decor and lovely range to choose from.

Loved this place! Started following them on Instagram last year, saved it in my maps, and was finally able to make the trip for a visit! My husband and I shared the Banana Split. It was definitely big enough for the both of us. Good size portions and delicious flavors! I was confused about the two different locations, but as it was a Sunday only one was open so that made it easier. Friendly young staff. Place was clean and welcoming. I would definitely go out of my way to visit again. I bought a Blondie on the way out for tomorrow. And would love to order some of their goodies online for this upcoming Christmas season! Extra bits: There was a disabled toilet on the ground floor with step free access into the main park of the shop. Loads of free or cheap parking around the city center area available depending on the day. Sunday the outside lot was free for three hours actually!

We came for the first time yesterday and just wanted to say we were so impressed with Dollys! . The shop is STUNNING! And spotless. Staff were really polite and helpful. Plenty of seating , which is needed as they were very busy and you can see why. The gelato was the best we’ve ever had. 4 flavours between us. Special shout out to the peanut butter brittle. They look amazing and taste even better- such unique flavours compared to any other dessert place. We got baked goodies to take away too ranging from brownies to flapjack for family members, they also said they were second to none! Xx

First visit arrived 45 mins before closing. Tried to order a milkshake to be informed they weren’t serving them as the machines were shut off for cleaning. Spoke with the owner on social media and she was very nice about it. Went again yesterday for the second time. Ordered two deserts. Staff were really unfriendly unfortunately. We went to eat upstairs and it was a mess. Tables were covered in food and when I sat down in the booth my trousers got covered in chocolate sauce. The table was really wobbly and there was no serviettes to clean up. Deserts are nice enough for the price.

Dolly’s Desserts – Barnsley Popped in today with my friend and wow – what a treat! 😍 From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with friendly vibes and a dessert menu that looked like heaven on a plate (and in a cup!). I had a gorgeous banana split loaded with whipped cream, pistachios, blue sauce and a crisp wafer – pure dessert goals 💙🍌 And the matcha and blueberry layered drink. So refreshing and pretty, it almost felt too fancy to sip! 🍵💜 My friend went for a Kinder-loaded hot chocolate that was overflowing with caramel and whipped cream – the kind of drink that deserves its own fan club 🍫🔥 And the pistachio cookie.... Melt-in-your-mouth perfection 💚🍪 The presentation was on point, the flavours were divine, and we left with full bellies and big smiles. Highly recommend if you’re in Barnsley and have a sweet tooth! #DessertDreams #DollysDelight #BarnsleyTreats 🍰✨

Absolutely loved our visit to Dolly’s in Barnsley! The desserts were delicious and beautifully presented, and the atmosphere was so warm and welcoming. The Nuttela brownie and biscoff ice-cream are some of the best we’ve tasted, so delicious! 🤤 A special thank you to Georgiana for making our experience extra lovely – she was so friendly and attentive. Can’t wait to come back!

I had a very long day looking forward to a sweet treat but was met with long queues, 30 minute wait for some cookie dough and dirty tables. The cookie dough was good though and cheap for what you get but sadly the appearances of the table brought down my overall opinion on the place. The customer service could also be improved on as we were stood at the till for ten minutes waiting to be served.
G A — Google review
FINALLY 🤣 I managed to get a photo before devouring into this decadent lot. I always dive straight in before getting the pic but on this occasion I had to. Best desserts by far in BARNSLEY, it's a staple for most and I was in luck to get the dubai style whippy cup. Absolutely loaded with chocolate sauce and krispy pistachio. This is a true must, prob one on the best things on the menu apart from the Bueno cookie dough. This is so decadent, scrumptious and a sweet tooth craving satisfied dessert. Always the one to get when sharing. The Bueno sauce is incredible along with the warm cookie dough and cold whippy ice cream. I want another just writing about it. HONESTLY, if you have a sweet tooth to satisfy then you need to make the effort to stop by. I will always be back and always up for trying the new items. Keep doing what you doing 👌

We managed to get a last minute booking due to a cancellation for my dad’s birthday and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve been trying to get a booking for ages so I was thrilled that we got this! The staff were so accommodating and quick to respond. When we got into the restaurant we were told how it works (we all eat together and what the courses were). The BYOB is such a great idea and we were even given a wine cooler for our bottle. Food was gorgeous, especially the pasta dish and the tiramisu which were to die for! All-in-all we will definitely come back again, I can imagine it’s even better in the summer. Thanks again Secret Italian 💕

Our first time here and what a gem of a restaurant, the Valentine's menu was delicious, 6 starters before the main meal and then the desserts. All the food had so many flavours, we were Absolutely stuffed. You won't be disappointed with this Italian. Margaret and Jana are so welcoming. Many thanks Chris & Allison.

Me and my partner were lucky enough to get a cancellation. I'd heard about it and read the reviews so we were looking forward to it and we were not disappointed! My partner is a vegetarian and it's a set menu so he was a bit apprehensive. However, he enjoyed every single dish and so did I...could not fault anything! The dessert is a Tiramisu and I've never been a fan but I have to say that was one of the best desserts I've ever had! The service was outstanding from start to finish, especially Jana who cooked and spoke to every customer in between...she is amazing!

Absolutely loved our anniversary meal here. Flavours spot on, fantastic food & the "fear" of what are you going to eat as it's a set menu soon dissapated. Good atmostphere, take your own alcohol or whstever you wish to drink, table water provided. 3 hard working ladies looked after us & never stopped! Hats off to the chef - a thoroughly enjoyable night.

Nestled just a mile from Barnsley's bustling town center, Locke Park is a stunning Victorian gem that spans 47 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. This park, recognized for its historical significance, features expansive open lawns and tree-lined paths perfect for leisurely strolls or picnics with family and friends. Children can delight in the dedicated play area equipped with climbing frames, swings, and even a sand pit to spark their imagination.
A chilly unplanned walk around Locke Park. I dropped someone at the hospital for an appointment and was going to find somewhere to park up and read my book, I found myself not far from the park so decided to get a few steps in while I waited. Lovely spacious park with wide pathways. Pushchair and wheelchair friendly. Great children’s play area with cafe. Bandstand. Large areas of grass with mature trees 🌳 perfect for a picnic (when it’s warmer) or ball games. Dedicated area for ball games with goals and basketball hoops. Lots of history to look at on the way around and an information board near the cafe. Fairy garden with stunning art work. Free car park. Plenty of litter bins. Easy to spend an hour or a whole afternoon.

I visited Locke Park for the parkrun. It’s a pretty and well maintained park. There is a bandstand, cafe, a children’s playground, open green areas, and trees. The park is hilly and at the top is a historic tower. The tower is fenced off but opens to the public on certain dates. The highlight of the park, for me, was the fairy garden. It’s a small area but there is so much to see. The artwork is detailed and really well done.

Came across this park by default..the intended place we were planning to visit was full so ended up here, with a very impatient dog! Lovely to see an amazing open space so well looked after and attracting lots of visitors of all ages. Nice to see the carpets of crocusses . Good little cafe for a cuppa and cake. Great for the dog to be off lead and chasing her ball. Free parking too!

A beautiful, peaceful gem in Barnsley! Absolutely love Locke Park – it's one of the best parks around! It’s dog-friendly, which makes it perfect for walks. The park is huge, with loads of space to relax or play – we used to play football here all the time! It also has tennis, basketball, and soccer courts, which are great for staying active. One of my favorite things is the charming old structures scattered around – they look almost ancient and add so much character. Perfect for a photostop or just to admire. Dearne Valley Country Park, located in Barnsley, is a picturesque wildlife haven that stretches for two miles along the River Dearne. The park offers a variety of activities such as hiking, biking, bird-watching, and even features a skate park and playground. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Dearne Valley while exploring 80 hectares of woodland, grassland, ponds and rivers.
❤️ Lovely walk, clean and quiet. There is a fishing pond for those who fish, lots of little paths through woodland areas. Great place for a stroll, very scenic to say its in Barnsley town centre. Enjoyable for dog walkers, there are paths for when its wet, but gets muddy off the beacon track if you dont mind muddy feet. There are picnic benches around the pond, but the downside to this gorgeous place no rest room facilities along the way. There is also a skateboard park and plenty of parking.

Lovely little walk. My girls enjoyed seeing the ducks (including the little ducklings!) and the new paths are great for pushchairs. The only downside was a group of youths smoking drugs near the lake making the whole area smell unpleasant.

Wonderful outdoor space to relax in. Great for family picnics, there are tables provided. Lots of grassy areas for children to fall down on! Feed the ducks with peas or sweetcorn not bread.

A woodland and park reclaimed from the previous canal system. A section of which is available for fishing. Still retains some of the original structures that once took the canal over the valley. Using the path adjacent to the Aldi store, which, by the way, has parking for a few cars, it is only a 10 minute walk to the lake. There is a car park at the lake for many cars and a skateboard lay out. Most paths are wheelchair accessible and others are only accessible by foot. It is only 3 or 4 minutes by car from Barnsley town centre.

The market is renowned for its street food vendors serving up a variety of flavors reflecting the community's diversity. Great lunch at Barnsley Market! 🍱✨ We stopped by Barnsley Market and tried the bento boxes from the food court — absolutely delicious! The beef was tender, the sauce rich and flavourful, and the rice perfectly cooked. Each box came with fresh salad and a tasty side (spring rolls and aubergine – both spot on!). The market itself has a great vibe — modern, clean, and full of tempting food options from different cuisines. Perfect spot for a quick lunch with plenty of seating and a lively yet relaxed atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back for more!

Into the building of Barnsley market (Alhambra shopping centre) you should definitely visit the gorgeous shop “Reenna Jewellers”where you can find various earrings, rings, hear clips and other women’s jewelry. You can buy silver and gold goods as well. There is souvenirs ,man’s jewelry and watches in this small but full of assortment shop. I had bought earrings just for 5 pounds and heard a lots of compliments already because it looks like very expensive brand! I look forward to buy something else there on my next visit.

Great. Have everything you want inside. From meats, fish, fruits, flowers. To carpets, holidays, cafes, phone fixing, sweets, a drink in a bar upstairs. With pizza, Chinese, Japanese, milkshakes. Fresh milk in a bottle top ups, doggy bits, watches everything you ever need

Easy acessable, Moderatly busy weekends, week days quiter. 2 large public paid parking. Lower level inside market various stalls holders. Good selection fruit/veg and butchers and fishmongers. Upper lever have cafe and few small scale restaurant/takeaway food stalls. Not sure the days for outside stalls etc but Barnsley has its own website which details opening hours and upcoming events etc. Barnsley market is part of the Glassworks redesigned Town vision to attract more spending and people to town. It has a Cinema multi screen complex and Boweling, plus various Restaurant and pubs throughout Barnsley Town. I prefer Barnsley to meadow Hall as its not overcrowded and it has outdoor and indoor spaces. I mainly shop online as am disabled housebound most of time but when I need to use a real shop its easier ,quicker. There is free bluebadge parking.

Barnsley market has been refurbished in the last couple of years and what an improvement! It is clean and welcoming with lots of different stalls where plenty of choice is available to peruse and buy from. There is still a very strong smell in the fish and meat market, but not sure that can be avoided with the wares on sale. A vast improvement of what used to be Barnsley markets and now a pleasure to visit

Not recognisable as Barnsley marketm very upbeat, with a fabulous range of shops. Very clean and a lovely atmosphere inside. Part of me missed the old style market, but in terms of moving forward and making the town a better place, it has done this with great success. Car park is not the easiest and beware, the higher you park in the car park the more stairs you will have to climb as the lifts tend to do what they want so it's always quicker to do the stairs, even if your crawling/dragging yourself up them by the end of it.

Barnsley Metrodome is a popular family-friendly destination offering a variety of activities. Additionally, visitors can enjoy tenpin bowling at an eight-lane alley, arcade games, and more. The complex also houses Fitness Flex Metrodome, a modern gym facility.
Adults' swimming lessons and many different fitness classes held here are absolutely great. My brother, who could not swim to save his life after three months, is now a doctor fish in the poole 😆. I had to visit to see him for myself. He visits one a week for his lessons, but I am proud of this facility doing a great job on him. There are visitors toilets 🚻 upon entry and is very clean. This place is ideal for family with children to visit and equally great for individual visitors. The entire premises was clean with active staffs making sure of that. I personally witnessed that on site, which was great.

Visited here on the 2nd October to celebrate our toddlers birthday and the entire family was thoroughly impressed from start to finish. The building is warm and welcoming; the seasonal display in the entrance cafe is adorable and the staff are polite and approachable. The family changing rooms are very convenient and kept to a good standard. When entering the pool, was pleased to know it was a good temperature and the entertaining features in the children’s pool were such a hit. The little one was smiling from ear to ear the entire time and we had a great family swim. To finish off a lovely day out, we had warm drinks (shout out to my amazing oat milk pumpkin spice latte) and food at the cafe. Lola stood out amongst the staff working this day; she was so polite and accommodating of our dietary needs- the little one has multiple food allergies and she went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, and all carried out with a smile. Thank you for an amazing day out!!

Waterpark is brilliant had a great time there. The cafe is reasonably priced and good food. The only issue I have is the changing rooms... the showers are rubbish and you have to keep pushing the buttons down the whole time. No hair dryers in there and hand dryers not working. The changing rooms are very poor and definitely need a re vamp.

Came here today for the Tiny Finns session with my husband and 2 daughters. We had not been in the pool long when we was near the big skull and my 3 year old was playing and they suddenly screamed out loud when I picked her up she had cut her foot in 3 places and was pouring with blood. I quickly got her out and 1st aid arrived however no one went to investigate where this had happened or to tell other swimmers and children to stay away …. Pool was not vacated after blood from my daughter was all in the pool.. I had to basically argue to get a refund or some form of compensation for my daughter which they gifted me a 50% off return which we will not be doing under any circumstances My daughters just started swimming lessons which now I’m worried about her wanting to go back to do at our local baths. The staff seemed very uncaring and not bothered Will not recommend or be returning

I think this is a fab family outing for swimming. I visited this weekend, having not been for a while, theyve added a cafe at the front and refurbishing the bowling alley. The disappointing part of this swimming centre is the lack of showers (under 10), lack of shower cubicles, the fact the showers are on such a short timer which makes it hard for young children and that there are only 4(?) hand driers to use to dry hair for the whole place. With the money poured in for the refurbs its a shame they havent improved the washing facilities.
Rebecca W — Google review
Absolutely shocked at the lack of access to the disabled toilets for the entertainment area at the back of the building, one particular security guard tonight was very rude with my disabled mum, belittling her by telling her it isn’t a disabled toilet, telling her it’s a ‘disabled access toilet’, when it clearly states on the door that it’s a disabled toilet, which my mum has a key for. He had her stand waiting outside the toilet for 15 minutes, lying to her and saying someone was in, to which another security guard stated it had been locked the entire night. Absolutely disgusted, do better for your disabled customers.
Crystal J — Google review
Went swimming and to be honest, wasn't impressed 🤔 Not been for years but saw online over the summer the 'pump' regarding recent investment...They've just made it so you can buy over priced crap food? The swimming area is looking very tired and old and looking up to the roof area, I'm amazed the slides are still standing! All looking very grubby! 😕 Plus the wave machine wasn't working whilst we was there...

No amenities here Now a country park located on the former site of Monkton Colliery, then Royston Drift, which closed in 1989, the transformation is remarkable It is now a home to an array of wildlife, with plenty of paths throughout the area Most paths are of loose stone, so may not be suitable for all abilities and wheelchair users Definitely worth visiting if you are in the area

Nice place visited last week with daughter, during the warm weather. Nice paths and trails through woodland, albeit there are several areas where litter is becoming an issue. Caught sight of a couple of deer near the marshland section. Would be ideal for biking as there are several trails through the woodland and not too busy.

Heart of Handmade is like a treasure trove of handmade pieces from various talented individuals, which you can buy. Parking isn't great here but I am pleased to hear that Emily and her little Heart of Handmade shop will be moving to the Victorian Arcade. I look forward to perhaps experiencing other crafts in the future and keeping up with my crochet.

There’s a good display of ceramics and glasswares. The grounds contain some lively mature trees and a ‘hunt the dragon’ woodland walk which is fun for the little ones. Parking is charged, but at reasonable amount. Highly recommended.

Beautiful gardens and grounds. Excellent exhibition of film and TV costumes. Friendly staff and a lovely wee café serving delicious food and coffee. Free to enter museum, donation if able. Charge for car park.

I have been visiting here for 40 years on and off and out is just a beautiful place to walk around. Plenty of adventure for young kids, very dog friendly and so, so clean and tidy. Sincerely hope this place is still here for my grandchildren to enjoy one day.

Wanted to go in this museum but have always had the dogs with us ( no dogs in the museum.) Free to get in with a donation box if you wish to add a contribution. Lots of lovely original features of the house with bits of more modern houseware thrown in too. We prefer the really old furnishings, so the more modern stuff was a bit overlooked by us but will appear to some. A lot bigger inside than I anticipated with the floor space well utilised. Museum staff were on hand to explain anything people wanted to know and plenty of signs that explained about a lot of the history of the house and its occupants. We spent about 45 minutes in here but could have spent longer if we had read all the information available ( but we were limited on time.) There are toilets in the main house with a disabled toilet, plus a changing area for adults with disabilities and their carers. There are also lifts within the house for wheelchair users. The car park is a few minutes walk, but disabled bays are very close to the house. There is a coffee station with outdoor seating in the courtyard at the back of the house which is a lovely setting to have a snack and a drink. It’s nice to see a museum that has so much on hand for the younger generation to use and explore.

Worsbrough Mill Country Park is a delightful destination that offers a blend of natural beauty and historical charm. Visitors can enjoy ample, affordable parking and well-maintained facilities, including clean restrooms at the main entrance. The park features a stunning working flour mill that stands in pristine condition, providing an intriguing glimpse into history. Nearby, there's an excellent café serving a variety of delicious food and drinks—though it leans towards the pricier side.
I had a lovely run around the reservoir at Worsbrough country park. At one point I was very close to a Heron that was sitting on the railings by the reservoir. There is a cafe, shop and toilets at the Mill. The mill is a beautiful historic building. The cafe sells a range of drinks, cakes, ice creams, and savoury dishes. There is a small playground for children. I cannot comment on parking as I arrived on foot.

We came for an event day, and there some stalls selling local produce by the cafe. There were free guided tours of the mill, and you got to make your own flat breads and gingerbread to try. Walks round the mill pond and reservoir are stunning with lots of ducks to feed.

Beautiful place. Been here many times, but this was the first time we got to tour the historic mill. We had a wonderful day and look forward to coming again.

We brought our Granddaughter for a walk round the Res we haven't been for many years. She absolutely loved it and she saw some goslings. She enjoyed playing in the park and jumping on the stepping stones part way round the res

Nice mix of country side and water good for walking wildlife and fresh air nice in spring and summer gets a little bogie in the autumn months.

Plenty of cheap, safe parking available. Well presented, clean and tidy toilets at the beginning of the Main official entrance. Also there is a wonderful old (working) Flour mill in pristine condition.Near the flour mill is a excellent cafe, food and drinks excellent, but its expensive. The main attraction is the hugh lake,a nice easy walk around the lake, different types of birds can be seen on the water and in the beautiful woodlands.A really nice pleasant experience,we regularly visit here at different times of the year,we highly recommend a visit.🙂🐦🦆🦢🐿🐟🐞🕷🌲🌳🦋🐸( 🍰🍦🥮🥤☕🫖)👍

Elsecar Park is a beloved local park that has garnered recognition for its exceptional features. The well-maintained gardens and clean amenities make it an ideal destination for visitors of all ages. Families can enjoy the playgrounds, while the on-site cafe offers a variety of food options. Additionally, the park provides free parking and features a picturesque lake perfect for leisurely strolls.
Nice walk around the well maintained park, cafe on site with a play park for the little ones. Parking at the bottom of the hill to walk through the gardens is free ans has ample spaces and there is also a mini golf course on site. Toilets could do with cleaning more regularly but at least they're there!

It's my favourite place in the whole world. Feed the ducks every week. Get them proper duck, goose, and Swan food. They love it!
Tracy C — Google review
Lovely park with access to the reservoir. Great little café.
Keef B — Google review
A lovely park to wander around if you are going to Elsecar Heritage centre. There’s a car park opposite the park. Dogs are allowed in all areas, apart from the playground. The gardens are lovely to explore with seats available!

Nice park and has good food tho a bit pricey

Shout out to Barnsley Council. They run an excellent little park, despite the cuts to local authorities budgets in the last fifteen years. It's great for families with kids (probably under 8), and after visiting with my own children, oldest now 32, I'm still visiting with my granddaughter. It has a little cafe, ice cream, a decent play park, big sand pit and loads of space. Love the place 👍
Stuart W — Google review
This is a brilliant place for all ages young or the older generation. The gardens are kept immaculate, and the cafe has a good arrangement of hot and cold foods. Toilets for men and women are clean and available to all no price. There are a couple of child toddlers who play grounds like slides and swings, also climbing frames. I fully indorse this relaxing and stunning beautiful park.
John E — Google review
The park was lovely. It was the first time we had been in it, the steps up to the bridge at one side are too steep to manage a pram but you can get to the reservoir from the other side. We will go again.
