Grand Universe Lucca, Autograph Collection is a charming 18th-century hotel offering free Wi-Fi, parking, and breakfast. It overlooks Piazza del Giglio and Piazza Napoleone and is conveniently located near restaurants, cafes, and boutiques. The hotel has a rich history as it was once a glass-blowing workshop and the residence of an aristocratic family before being transformed into a hotel.
We came here via Tauck touring for one night. Very quiet, pleasant atmosphere. Concierge enthusiastically got us reservation in a small "local" restaurant which readily prepared my food vegan. (Trattoria Canuleia). Room was smallish. Bathroom elegant. AC was QUIET. (One of my most important ranking qualities) Location awesome. City very walkable especially on top of the wall around it.

Grand Universe Lucca is a beautifully restored boutique hotel that blends timeless elegance with modern comfort. Located right in the historic center, it’s the perfect base to explore the city. The rooms are stylish and quiet, many with stunning views over Lucca’s rooftops. Staff are warm, professional, and truly go the extra mile. The breakfast is excellent, and the rooftop terrace is a hidden gem—ideal for a sunset drink. Highly recommended for a refined and relaxing stay in Tuscany.

Fantastic property in a superb location small village between Pisa and Florence. Restaurant was good for dinner or you could venture out into the streets for an amazing assortment of local cuisine. Staff is warm and welcoming and willing to help with information or a dinner reservation. The bar staff in particular seemed to know the guests like friends and listened to their stories and experiences with engagement. Such a delightful experience and the room we had was the perfect mix of old world architecture with modern amenities. My wife especially enjoyed the bath salts!

This is a gorgeous, centrally located, historic hotel. The room was large but as typical with many hotels in Italy, there was a paucity of places to unpack and hang things. It had a small armoire, but it didn't hold much so again we were back to living out of our suitcases for a few days. Still, this was a really marvelous hotel. The service was exceptional. The dining room is also spectacular along with the food!
Susan G — Google review
We didn’t stay in the hotel but took some friends to the rooftop bar for a drink and antipastini.. service was so slow and definitely not 5 star trained employees. We arrived at 19:00 and left after 22:00! For 2 normal cocktails, warm oysters and terrible shrimp tartare at €90 person seemed extremely overpriced. Too bad, it was nice up there but we would never return
Laurie F — Google review
The hotel is beautiful inside and is located in a great area. The view from the top Champagne bar is spectacular. The rooms are designed lovely, comfortable and are well equipped. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. We received recommendations and great advice from Matteo. I highly recommend it.

Great Stay In Lucca Reviewed Jan 18, 2024 via mobile Very good stay at Grand Universe in Lucca, Italy. Hotel located near main gate to town just a short walk from train station. No SNA but upgrades to Jr Suite. The entire staff has been so kind…Mare at Check in and Maria Pia each morning at breakfast. Our Jr Suite overlooked the courtyard and statues. Even with rain, we ventured out each day to stroll the streets. One day we took the train to the coast and strolled the boardwalk at Viareggio. Elite breakfast and a ten dollar f&b credit. Property is very nice with a rooftop bar overlooking the city. We chose Lucca to celebrate my wife’s birthday and couldn’t have made a better choice. The staff had a welcome bottle and also sent up a nice birthday dessert. We have been traveling Europe for over a month and must say that the hospitality we received at Grand Universe has been the best anywhere. Highly recommended for a short or long stay in Lucca. Date of stay: January 2024

Grand Universe Lucca Have you ever fallen in love with a hotel the moment you set eyes on it? After walking for a few minutes, we arrived at the square, where our destination, the Grand Universe Lucca, stood sentinel over the Piazza del Giglio, the Teatro del Giglio, two cafes, and in the center of the piazza, a memorial to General Giuseppe Garibaldi. We quickly entered the hotel and stopped in our tracks. The ambiance was cool, quiet, and very luxurious. The lobby exudes elegance with sophisticated decor. A grand piano reflects ornate chandeliers hanging from the high, arched ceilings. Plush seating areas invite you to relax. Rich fabrics and warm colors create a welcoming atmosphere, complemented by artwork that reflects the charm and history of Lucca. We sat down at the reception desk and began the usual process of documents and credit card registration. We were hours early, so our room was still being prepared. The charming and professional receptionist called a porter to store our bags and invited us to have a complimentary drink in the bar. As we entered the cavernous room, we saw our bags were waiting on luggage stands. At the coffee table sat a bottle of local port and lovely biscotti to enjoy with our coffee. The room was gorgeous! Towering ceilings soared above the hand-textured walls. The ceiling was adorned with rich, dark wood beams that created an impressive architectural frame. Puchinni’s portrait dominated one wall, reminding us that the renowned composer lived and worked in Lucca most of his life. A bathroom can make or break a hotel stay. Grand Universe Lucca’s designers created a spa-like room that the two of us could comfortably use at the same time. The double sinks had individually light-controlled mirrors and lots of surface space to keep our toiletries organized and separated. Lots of hooks and towel bars were available, but our favorite bathroom accessory was the towel warmer. We love it when we see them in a hotel bath. A spacious shower with excellent pressure and an endless supply of hot water featured skin and hair products that we used daily. Soft, oversized towels and plush robes enveloped us in comfort, providing a luxurious feel after an invigorating shower. Indulge in luxurious comforts to enhance your stay. Relax on the rooftop terrace and champagne bar with unforgettable views of the historic city of Lucca. The hotel features a state-of-the-art fitness center, perfect for maintaining your workout routine. For relaxation, a beautiful lounge area is available. The lounge is by the gourmet restaurant serving superb local cuisine. Additionally, complimentary Wi-Fi and a 24-hour concierge service will make your visit a one-of-a-kind indulgence. Staying at Grand Universe Lucca is an unparalleled experience of style, comfort, and luxury in one of Italy’s most enchanting towns. The hotel’s ambiance combines elegant decor with modern amenities, creating a serene retreat. You will be immersed in breathtaking views of the Piazza del Giglio from your room. Indulge in exquisite dining with locally sourced ingredients. You will savor a delightful breakfast buffet and unwind in the opulent lounge, accompanied by local music. The attentive staff ensures a personalized touch, making you feel special throughout your stay. Whether you’re exploring Lucca’s history or relaxing in style, Grand Universe Lucca is the perfect escape.

Albergo alla Corte degli Angeli is a small family-run hotel located within the walled town of Lucca, just a few steps from Piazza Anfiteatro and the main shopping street. The hotel offers warmly decorated rooms, some with whirlpool tubs, each adorned with a floral-themed fresco that extends into the bathroom.
We loved it here. Set on a quiet street near a shopping street and piazza full of restaurants. The rooms are ample and beautifully painted. The bed was comfortable and breakfast spread was great. The staff were kind and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Very cute hotel lots of neat little things in the breakfast room. rooms are cozy. It was quiet sleeping. Bathroom is very nice. The breakfast is very good. The only thing I really didn’t like is if you’re driving a car and you use their parking it’s €18 which is fine but Google maps will take you on a real adventure. Ask the hotel for details on getting to the hotel as they know the easy way. Google is not your friend.

My husband and I spent two nights at this charming hotel. The staff are most helpful and friendly and very attentive at breakfast time. The selection at breakfast was very impressive with fresh coffees made to order. The room was very comfortable with everything available for your comfort. Thank you for making our stay so nice.

A beautiful hotel, we had a clean and spacious room. Service is wonderful and makes you feel at home. Breakfast is generous filled with home made pastries, all presented in beautiful dishes.

This place is the best - staff is beyond helpful and friendly - rooms were big and comfortable with good mattresses- walking distance to everything - and the breakfast was varied, plentiful and delicious. I will make a point of returning to Lucca because of this place -also convenient valet parking

Lovely little hotel, the rooms are tastefully decorated with painted tuscan scenery. The staff were very friendly and gave great tips about where to eat in the evenings.

Loved everything about this hotel, lovely rooms, great breakfast, the kindest staff and perfect location (Lucca is amazing so would recommend to stay at least 2 nights!!). Oh and the winebar that’s part of the hotel is a must too

Hotel
Hotel Palazzo Alexander is a refined and elegant hotel located in the heart of Lucca, housed in an 1100s building. The upscale hotel offers elegant rooms with grand gilt and chintz decor, parquet floors, and some rooms feature private balconies with city views. The historic building provides easy access to Porta San Donato and is complete with amenities such as free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and multilingual staff.
This was a good value for the cost and a charming place to stay. It has a historical feel and graceful rooms with high ceilings and decor just as in the photos. The best part was Roberto, who welcomes guests and runs the breakfast. He is a very kind soul and super accommodating. I also appreciated the Nespresso coffee machine in the room, which was perfect. I think the breakfast could have more items on the buffet (fruit salad, more yogurt/muesli selection) and the room could have more toiletries), but it was otherwise a wonderful stay on a quiet street in a great part of the old town.

I just wanted to share how amazing the staff here is. I am in NY, and I needed last-minute help TWICE, for a guest staying there on scheduling a car for pickup and drop-off. Riccardo, Mario, and Gabriele corresponded with me via WhatsApp and Email to get the job done. Despite the time difference and the language gap, they were exquisite in all arenas. Will recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Lucca. Thank you for all your diligent and professional care and dedication!

Lovely hotel run by extremely friendly staff. Clean, spacious rooms. Old fashioned decor. We stayed in 2 connecting rooms (1 king, 2 twins) which was perfect for the family. Close walk to the center of town. Delicious breakfast. Would definitely stay here again when in Lucca!

We had car (puncture tire) problem. Owner drove with us to two garages to look for repair service which took over two hours. This is ABOVE AND BEYOND service the he provides to guests. Absolutely wonderful people.

The hotel features 19 rooms and suites with contemporary amenities while retaining the building's original charm. Guests can enjoy complimentary WiFi, concierge services, and bike storage. The on-site bar and snack bar/deli provide convenient dining options.
We recently had the pleasure of staying at the beautiful Hotel Dipinto in Lucca, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, the warm and inviting atmosphere made us feel right at home. The hotel itself is a stunning blend of traditional charm and modern comfort, perfectly reflecting the rich history of Lucca. Our room was beautifully decorated, spacious, and equipped with all the amenities we could wish for. The attention to detail was impressive. One of the highlights of our stay was the exceptional service provided by the staff. They were always friendly, accommodating, and eager to assist with any requests or recommendations. Their knowledge about the local area and attractions greatly enhanced our experience. Additionally, the location of Hotel Dipinto is ideal for exploring Lucca. A very modern and stylish hotel in a restored palazzo. We had a room in the roof which was really fabulous! Very central but only a 15 minute walk from the train station, ideal for exploring Lucca. The staff are lovely and the breakfast fantastic!
Andrew — Google review
Quality service from start to finish. Clean and tidy. Lovely breakfast. Overall just a really well-run, stress-free hotel with great attention to detail. By quite a margin the best hotel we stayed at during our trip to Tuscany.
Kristian U — Google review
We popped into this hotel, hoping for a quiet bar that would give us some respite from the heat and noise. Palazzo Dipinto didn’t disappoint. The receptionist Francesco was beyond inviting and competent. Not only did he make us some delicious Limoncello spritzers, he checked in a new hotel guest and parked someone’s car outside, all while being conversational with us at the same time. The bar area seating is elegant and quiet, the hotel is ultra clean and modern, and the location is superb. We look forward to staying here one day when we visit Lucca again.
Monica R — Google review
We stayed here for 3 nights May 2025. The beauty of this hotel is that it is exactly as it describes itself. The staff are friendly and helpful, the location is very central and the rooms are full of character. If you are coming to Lucca you should definitely look at this hotel.
Nigel D — Google review
We were a family of 3 and booked 2 double rooms. The hotel is charming, antique and modern, luxurious and quiet. Great mattress, very kind and friendly personnel, garage onsite, everything in at walking distance, delicious breakfast. We highly recommend this exquisite gem!
Charlotte C — Google review
We stayed in this hotel for two nights. The location is ideal. It's very close to all the sites yet it's in a quiet corner. The rooms are very well appointed and very large. I did find two bugs but otherwise the room was nicely cleaned. There were two small complimentary water bottles the first day. The breakfast was good with fresh fruit, eggs, cheese, bread and lots of other choices. The coffee was delicious! The only thing I would add is a Nespresso in the room. Also, housekeeping should replenish the body gel etc daily
Monica B — Google review
Plus: location, nice breakfast Minus: basic sparsely furnished room, no Nespresso in room, terrible wifi, AC not working well. Summary: a three star hotel priced as a five star.

Villa
Hotel Villa Casanova in Lucca offers a luxurious stay with its polished suites and sophisticated Tuscan villa ambiance. The hotel features an outdoor pool, hot tub, and outdoor dining for a relaxing experience. Guests can enjoy stunning views from the rooftop terrace and garden or take advantage of amenities such as complimentary wireless internet access and tour/ticket assistance. Additionally, the hotel provides room service and is pet-friendly, ensuring a comfortable stay for all guests.
We recently stayed at Hotel Villa Casanova for 3 nights while we looked at wedding venues in Tuscany, we booked a Deluxe Suite with Valley view. The hotel was beautiful - traditionally styled, with modern facilities (the elevator was definitely a bonus!) and immaculately kept. The views over the valley were stunning, the staff were really friendly and accommodating! The breakfast buffets were well catered with a large range of tasty continental choices and also some cooked eggs and omelette options. We only had time to eat one evening in the hotel restaurant, but was really tasty and we both commented on how both our desserts were some of the nicest desserts we've had! We'd definitely recommend and we'll definitely be back for another visit!

Beautiful though a bit run down hotel, which probably has seen better times, but nevertheless delivers. Spacious rooms with nice views over the hills (if you get one not facing the parking), cute little pool and a garden. Very decent food, good service.

Amidst the picturesque scenery outside of Lucca, this hotel provides an idyllic escape from civilization. With its spacious and opulent accommodations and neat service, it offers a wonderful experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this exceptional establishment. The pool in October invites for cold-water swimming. ;)

This was our second visit to Hotel Villa Casanova. We had been there ten years before and loved it. Our hope was that it had not lost it's charm. Luckily it was even better. It is in a lovely green hilly area about a fifteen minute ride from Luca. The former villa has twelve suites each with views, some with balconies. Each has large bathrooms . The small elevator delivers people and luggage quickly to each of the three floors. The decor is lovely and comfortable. Beds sheets and towels are luxurious. In June when we were there, all meals were served by the pool which had a lovely view of the distant mountains and the beautiful gardens around the hotel. The service and food , breakfast, lunch and dinner were excellent. All the Rooms professionally cleaned quietly while we ate or were off in Luca. The staff was very helpful as to directions to places in Luca and they served snacks and drinks by the pool. There is a tennis court and large beautiful gardens to walk in. Inside there are lots of interesting books all around to borrow. It is like being a guest at a private country villa. . We found the quiet relaxed atmosphere a perfect place to rest after the crowds of tourists in Luca. We cannot recommend this small hotel more highly.
Susan D — Google review
The hotel is completely inflexible once your booking is made. Despite giving them six months' notice, they refused to change or modify our dates. Due to a family bereavement, we were no longer able to afford the trip, but the hotel showed no understanding and did not accommodate our cancellation request. We were also unable to speak directly with a manager or supervisor.Be aware of this when you book. We booked through booking.com who were happy to waive any fees to us and the hotel but they still refused to help.

The Hotel is well located for Lucca and Pisa both 23 mins drive, rooms (siutes) are superb with lovely views. Food was excellent and friendly service.

It was amazing! Even we came late rainy evening. We only stayed here one night due to our road trip, and we were so sad to leave, we wish we could have stayed longer! I would like to thank the staff for excellent service, they were so professional and kind. Dinner and breakfast at their hotel were delicious. During both meals the service was incredible. The room was so cozy, charming and very clean. The view from our window was amazing.

Our stay at Albergo Villa Marta was simply wonderful. The place is beautiful. The facilities are carefully maintained and convey a feeling of peace from the very first moment. The service was excellent in every way, but we would especially like to highlight the attention of Roberto. His professionalism, kindness, and warmth made us feel at home from day one. He is a true example of what it means to care for guests, and we wish we could meet more people like him in all our travels

I have very recently returned from staying seven nights this beautiful villa hotel outside of Lucca walled city. It was a splendid stay. Beautiful location and grounds. Lovely, comfortable room. However the highlight for me was the staff - they were very attentive, and always eager to do what they could to help us. A very special mention and thank you to the restaurant staff who went beyond professionalism to ensure your experience was a memorable one with fine food and wine. I cannot recommend Villa Marta highly enough … you won’t be disappointed.

We first visited Albergo Villa Marta back in 2018 and we immediately loved this place. The hospitality of the staff and the beauty of the villa and its surroundings stayed forever in our memories. Villa Marta has a very unique atmosphere and something that you don't easily find in other places. When you are there you can really relax in the lovely rustic rooms or the beautiful gardens. It is a very charming and elegant place that brings you a feeling of serenity and home. For all these reasons we decided to come back and have our wedding there this past summer. We want to thank all the staff who made that day unforgettable with their kindness, attention to detail and dedication. Daniela, Michele, Pasquale, Gian Luca, Roberto, Sara, Jessica and everyone else in the Villa a big thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!! We will be back soon!

Nestled within the enchanting historic walls of Lucca, San Luca Palace Hotel is a refined gem housed in a stunning 16th-century residence. This modern hotel, which opened its doors in 2007, beautifully marries traditional Italian architecture with contemporary comforts. Guests can unwind in spacious and tastefully decorated rooms that offer amenities like satellite television and Wi-Fi.
Excellent location the main attractions just around the corner. Peaceful environment. Good breakfast.  Clean rooms. The junior suit is perfect for 3 guests. Nice staff, special thanks to Roberto. I recommend this hotel to those who are looking for the old italian atmosphere in Lucca, the birthplace of Puccini.

One of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. Shocking experience – no response from hotel after two complaints We stayed at San Luca Hotel (Room 25, 18–21 July 2025) and were appalled by the state of the room and the treatment we received. The room was unbearably hot, the air conditioning only blew warm air, the light above the wardrobe flickered constantly, and the bathroom flooded every time we used the shower. The furniture was old and the whole space felt neglected. We raised these issues immediately with Leonardo at reception, but he showed no interest and told us there were no other rooms available — a lie, as we later discovered. He disconnected the faulty light and left us in darkness near the entrance. The room remained like a sauna. Over the next few days, we noticed a lot of blood spots on the sheets and woke up with bites. On the final morning, we found live bed bugs crawling on the sheets and headboard. The extreme heat in the room, due to the non-functional air conditioning, had brought them out more each night. The blood stains were from bugs feeding on us at night. It was sickening. When we reported this, Leonardo shrugged and accused us of bringing them in ourselves, which was both insulting and absurd. We spoke to another receptionist who confirmed there were spare rooms and couldn't understand why we weren’t moved or why the room wasn’t closed down. We have since sent two detailed emails to the hotel, including photographic evidence, but have received no response at all. Their silence has left us no choice but to inform others about the true condition of this hotel and the way they treat their guests. We had to discard our clothes and luggage to prevent bringing the infestation home. The emotional and financial toll has been significant. This hotel claims to be 4-star — in reality, it's filthy, mismanaged, and completely uncaring. Avoid at all costs.

Horrible mattress…and maintenance issues in bathroom. What once might have been a top rated Hotel is no longer. My wife and I recently spent two night there and both could not sleep due to the old, hard and lumpy mattress! Someone there is not checking on things within the Hotel!

Old room, air conditioning was making a lot of noise, quite dark room, furniture and curtains looked overused. Helpful staff. Nice breakfast. Stayed only for one night. If for longer stay, wouldn't choose it.

Great location and if you book you can also reserve a handy and very secure parking space for your vehicle.

Excellent stay in this 4+ stars hotels in the center of Lucca. The hotel is a 5-10 minute walk to the center (depending on where you want to go as Lucca is relatively small) and a very short walk from the walls. It is also very close to a transport hub where several bus lines stop. The building is a nice old building on a very quiet street (mostly pedestrian). The staff is very courteous and helpful (they suggested restaurants where to eat and they were all very good). The rooms are quite spacious. Our room was a superior double room and was quite large. The bed was quite comfy. What we really liked was the breakfast, the scrambled eggs and the croissants amongst the best but you have a nice choice including cakes, and local cheese as well. We would probably return. Thanks to the entire team of the hotel for the nice stay!

Very nice rooms in a very nice building in a very nice place :) Wonderful breakfast and very nice staff. Handy parking, to which google maps draws a way to convoluted route. The drawbacks are totally overshadowed here, but here goes: The cold water was never cold, the bed cover/blanket is not enough for 2 degrees outside and there were some trucks running their coolers both nights I've been there. But, by all means, I would not hesitate to book again.

Hotel Ilaria And Residenza Dell'Alba is a charming property located in Lucca Historical Center, offering comfortable accommodations with free Wi-Fi and breakfast. The hotel boasts a terrace with a hot tub, perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. Its convenient location near Villa Bottini and Lucca Botanical Gardens makes it an ideal base for exploring the area. Guests can also enjoy amenities such as a spa tub, complimentary wireless internet access, and 24-hour room service.
We stayed at hotel Ilaria for one night and it was wonderful. The welcome was warm and one of the receptionists walked us to our room. We had a Superior Room Annex, which isn't in the main hotel, but just across the street. The room was amazing, huge bed, high ceilings and a beautiful bathroom. The decoration of the room was very stylish and luxurious. After a good night sleep we had a wonderful breakfast. There is plenty to choose from, especially if you like cakes and other sweet things. During the day you can have any coffee free of charge in the hotel lobby, where they also have an happy hour! We also used two bikes for a tour around the city and citywalls. That was fun. We had a great time and it was money well spend. Next time in Lucca I know where I'll be!

This is a wonderful hotel. Staff are welcoming and accommodating. The rooms are well appointed, comfortable and deliver a restful night. The breakfast is quite good, with indoor and outdoor spaces. Snacks and beverages are available in the lobby all day, and €6 self-serve aperativi are a plus. Location is great, as are the bikes for touring. The room folder had an explanation regarding just about everything. We would definitely stay here again.

A good hotel right by the historic centre of Lucca. We were in a room in the tower which was spacious and had a lovely bathroom. The hotel lounge area was comfortable with complimentary snacks and drinks. They provided a good choice for breakfast which could be eaten inside or on the terrace. Friendly and helpful staff.

We (Americans) stayed here in July 2025, at the height of a European heat wave... and Lucca was HOT! Which made staying at Hotel Ilaria so nice. Their A/C works like a charm. Coming back to our room during the afternoon heat was such a nice reprise. Also, the hotel does a great job of putting out cool drinks and snacks in the lobby area - a great way to unwind after walking the streets. One of the highlights of Hotel Ilaria is the staff. They were attentive and very helpful. Their English is perfect and they never blinked when we asked them to help with things like calling a taxi for us. Our room came with breakfast and the hotel offers a pretty good buffet. Not the best you've ever had, but enough options to make everyone happy. The only area for improvement are the bathrooms. The showers are very small and some of the fixtures need updating. The hotel is located near the city wall, and I highly recommend going for a stroll around the city. The train station is walkable but we took taxis (because of the heat).

We spent a week in Lucca and stayed at the Ilaria. The location is perfect, just inside the walls. The street was quiet. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff were lovely. The breakfast, included in our room rate, was good. All in all a great spot from which to enjoy a quiet week in a lovely city.

Hotel Villa La Principessa is an elegant country house located in Lucca, surrounded by a private park. The hotel offers refined rooms and suites with traditional furnishings, some featuring wood-beamed ceilings and luxurious wallpaper. Guests can enjoy the outdoor pool area and dine at the chic Tuscan restaurant on-site. Additional amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi, concierge services, and babysitting options.
We have stayed at Hotel Villa La Principessa for 3 weeks with our guests and we have had the best time. We enjoyed the meeting room which we used for our craft workshops and the pool area. We thought the service by the staff was very good. The bedrooms were very clean and the gardens were always kept clean. The food is very authentic and we have had lunch outside when it was warm enough. They have bedrooms with walk-in showers for guests who have not good mobility. They also allow dogs to stay and the house keeping has very good hovers to clean the rooms. Our dog has white hair and the carpet was royal blue but the housekeeping cleaned the carpet very well. There is free on-side parking and the location is perfect. Just 10 minutes by car outside of Lucca. The reception team has helped us to book taxi's and more. The hotel has a very charming style and we will be back next year in May. Thank you very much, Nadine and Mark

To start, the pictures online are completely misleading and nothing like the actual condition of the hotel. You can see the real state of the room in the photos I’ve uploaded alongside this review (from November 2024) — it’s a huge contrast and feels very deceptive. The room had an incredibly bad smell, by far the worst I’ve ever experienced in any accommodation. It was clear the hotel was trying to mask the odor of what seemed like a rotting building with overpowering scented sticks and large boxes of chemicals, which only made it worse (see pictures). For the price of 207 EUR per night, this was a complete rip-off. The room was dirty, with visible dirt and dust in corners, and the bathroom fixtures were rusty and worn out. The bed was sagging and uncomfortable, showing clear signs of being well past its prime. The staff, including the hotel manager, was well aware of these issues. They apologized and even offered a refund. However, after we left, they completely ignored our refund request, showing a lack of professionalism and follow-through. Overall, this so called "villa" was a massive disappointment. I would not recommend staying here—save your money and find somewhere else that offers better quality for the price.

My stay at Villa Principessa in Lucca, Tuscany, was nothing short of delightful. This hotel exudes an authentic feeling with its historical look and beautifully manicured grounds, making it the perfect retreat for those looking to immerse themselves in the charm of Tuscany. The pool is an excellent bonus as it was a perfect place to relax after a long day of sight seeing. The on-site restaurant serves classic Tuscan cuisine, adding to the overall authentic experience. Each meal was a culinary delight, showcasing the rich flavors and traditions of the region. The service at Villa Principessa was outstanding. The staff were incredibly attentive and went above and beyond to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Their warmth and professionalism truly made a difference. The rooms were spacious and well-appointed, providing a perfect blend of comfort and historical elegance. The mattress was a little too hard for my liking but that is a personal choice. Waking up to the serene views of the well-maintained gardens was a highlight. Overall, Villa Principessa offers an exceptional experience with its beautiful grounds, excellent dining, and top-notch service. It’s a perfect choice for anyone looking to experience the best of Tuscany.

First off I highly recommend getting a car to stay at this hotel. It made our stay so much easier. This hotel is exactly what we thought of when we thought “Tuscany.” We are a family of 3 and the room was very spacious, and unique. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The room and bathroom were very clean and the shower was hot. The room came with its own A/C. And a nice view into the backyard. The staff was very polite and professional. I had asked them to leave a happy birthday note for our daughter and they surprised us with a little wrapped gift for her instead! She loved it. The restaurant at the hotel has Excellent food! So delicious we ate their twice (the menu changed by day). The breakfast they offer in the morning is abundant! They had 4 different types of juice, various pastries, fresh fruit (pears, plums, bananas, grapes, and apples) pancakes, eggs, sausages, cereal, oatmeal, toast with multiple spreads.

We've spent many nights here since first coming in 2011. It's one of our very favourite hotels. You do need a car (though there are buses into Lucca and to Pisa - get the app first - and of course there are taxis) but parking is easy and generous. We have stayed in many.of the rooms and while even the standard ones are nice, we do think it's worth paying a bit extra for the really lovely ones. The pool is great and the catering very good (breakfast at the back near the pool; dinner at the front overlooking the park). The villa itself is very romantic, one of Princess Pauline Borghese's country villas (hence the name) - ideal for a couple.

Nestled in the charming city of Lucca, just 15 km from the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa, Hotel Villa San Michele is a delightful retreat that combines comfort and elegance. This inviting hotel features lush gardens, a refreshing pool, and ample free private parking for guests. With an on-site restaurant and bar, visitors can indulge in delicious meals without venturing far from their cozy accommodations.
Would highly recommend staying a few nights in this gorgeous hotel. The rooms and hotel overall have this charming, antique and romantic atmosphere. The room was clean and everything was taken care of. The pool was amazing and you can order a variety of (alcoholic) drinks while enjoying the peace and quiet poolside. The restaurant was also amazing and I would highly recommend spending at least one night eating in the beautiful conservatory looking out over the beautiful lit garden. Also a little shoutout to the staff, amazing characters that do everything to make your stay pleasant.

A truly wonderful stay! The hotel is incredibly welcoming, with spacious rooms that feel like part of a small Tuscan palace. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking, and the outdoor setting is simply idyllic. The garden is beautifully maintained, and the pool is large, warm, and perfect for relaxing. Breakfast is served under a lovely retractable veranda, which makes for a delightful experience, especially in the summer. We stayed with our children and found the place to be very family-friendly and accommodating. An incredibly peaceful and charming retreat. We would love to come back!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We stayed here with our family for three days and had the most incredible experience. We had the whole hotel, which made it so special, and the staff could not have been more accommodating, kind, and generous. From the moment we arrived, nothing was too much trouble – they went above and beyond in every way. The food was absolutely outstanding, and Pascale and his team did an amazing job throughout our stay. Every detail was perfect, and it honestly felt like a true 5-star experience. We cannot thank the team enough for making our time here so memorable. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for somewhere truly special!

This is a true Tuscan gem, the staff are extremely friendly and attentive, the food in the restaurant is divine and the views and surroundings are just priceless. In a good location but be warned you have to rely on unreliable buses (8min walk from hotel) expensive and infrequent taxi's from Lucca or probably your best bet is to hire a car. All in all a perfect stay though, I'll definitely be staying here again ASAP!

We had an amazing stay here! The staff was so relaxed and kind. The restaurant arranged a special romantic dinner for my girlfriend and me. It was for her birthday, so I asked them if it was possible and even though they had no availability initially, Eduardo, the restaurant manager himself arranged it all with wine tasting for 5 courses, was amazing!

There was mould below the sink; you could smell it, too. However, we did receive compensation. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. It could have been a great stay.
Christian N — Google review
The hotel and facilities are very nice, with a clean and well-kept pool area and a pleasant atmosphere. Breakfast was simple but sufficient. The real disappointment came at the reception. We had booked a 35 sqm room via a 3rd party but were given a much smaller one (around 18 sqm) in the end. Our issue was not the room itself, but how it was handled. The gentleman at the desk (an older man) was unfriendly and dismissive from the start. Instead of listening to our concern, he only kept showing us emails from an agency and insisted that we didn’t believe him, even though we had simply outlined our problem in a calm way. At no point did we feel treated like customers who deserved support or a solution. The lady the next day was way more professional and handled the situation like you would expect it from a 4 start hotel receptionist However, the gentlemen’s attitude was unprofessional and left a lasting negative impression, overshadowing what could have been a pleasant stay. Good facilities cannot make up for poor customer service.

Great hotel we stayed outside of Pisa. The service was great, the room was tidy and clean. The reception lady when we arrived was super friendly and went trough all details, they allowed us a later one hour check in free of charge. The restaurant food was amazing. Parking was good and close. For me the pool was the best, nestled between trees , the pool was clean, tidy and had sun beds and umbrellas. Could not recommend this hotel enough .

To me service says it all. This hotel misses the mark in that regard. As an elderly female traveling alone I tend to ask the front desk for help, as I did twice here when I could not get a taxi from the train station. The clerk refused to help locate a taxi and I walked with 2 heavy suitcases full of art supplies etc. A nice lady helped me up hills and 3 wonderful young Brit men walked me several blocks carrying my gear to the hotel. I stiil dont know why the clerk couldn’t make a simple call to help ( or give me the number to call ).

For a three night stay with the family, I couldn't fault it. Clean rooms, strong AC, lovely front desk staff, and perfect location with everything within a 10 minute walk. Very accommodating at breakfast for gluten free / celiac.

We walked past the restaurant area one evening and we were initially drawn to the subtle lighting and sophisticated looks and thought let's give it a go for a meal. We booked for the following night. First the good points are the setting and atmosphere is great, a little tightly seated but that's me being fussy. The bad points were the service was a little forced rather than advising specials or recommendations once my wife asked if she could have the calamari the waiter instantly tried to force the sea special in a far too pushy style. Anyway, nothing awful has happened yet until the food arrived..... The starter was okay nothing impressive but far too heavily seasoned. We had both made the mistake of ordering carbonara with truffle. This dish considering we are in the heart of Tuscany must have been cooked by an English ex comprehensive school dinner lady (no offence to all the dinner ladies out there x) the dish was as best I can describe was pasta not that fresh soaked in butter with the smallest sprinkle of truffle just in the centre at the top. The only authentic aspect was pork was the correct cut from the cheek of the pig and was cooked well. I cannot comment on the rest of the hotel that sounds and looks very nice but for me the restaurant is letting down the side.

My wife and I spent 4 nights here on our honeymoon. We were extremely happy with the hotel. The location was central within the walled city. Everything was within a short walking distance, including the train station. The restaurant attached to the hotel is great: Antica Osteria. The morning breakfast included a nice spread as well. Stephania, the concierge, was very helpful. She helped us book taxis, introduced us to a fantastic winery called Tenuta Adamo, and referred us to a great thermal spa called Bagni Di Pisa Palace & Thermal Spa, in San Giuliano. The town of Lucca was a pleasant surprise on our Italy honeymoon. This hotel was key to our stay in Lucca.
J. H — Google review
The room was nice, maybe a little small, but everything was well appointed including a very nice shower with great water pressure. The entire staff was excellent and very friendly. The level of attention they give is absolutely appreciated as a tourist. The only downside to our stay was the breakfast experience, which is why this is a 4 star and not a 5. Our entire time in Italy we have had buffet style offerings for breakfast, but this hotel only offers a very limited menu with rather disappointing options. All in all, it was a great location and amazing staff, but breakfast might be better in town...

Excellent hotel, excellent stay. The location is right outside the city walls, 5m walk from an entrance, with easy private parking. The staff was very helpful. It was low season so they upgraded us to the king bed without us asking. No problem with our golden retriever, although they do say they might not accept larger dogs. Good breakfast too.

Just outside the city walls and now I’ve been I can vouch that it’s perfectly positioned. Hotel was a pleasant surprise. Clean, comfortable bed and welcoming professional staff. Breakfast included in the price was lovely. My only gripe is that the shower leaked water which made its way to the carpet just outside which should be looked at else it will cause damage to what was otherwise a lovely well equipped room. Grazie mille!

Lovely little hotel just outside the walls of Lucca. The staff are extremely helpful and polite, there is nothing bad I can say about this place. We didn’t get time to use the spa so I cannot comment and that but I’m sure it would be great. We look forward to visiting again in the future.

My husband and I have stayed at Albergo a handful of times now. We planned a destination wedding in Lucca, and chose Albergo to be the hotel we recommended for our guests coming in from the U.S. They happily accommodated our family and friends, and provided a welcoming stay for us. The staff was incredibly hospitable, especially Matteo at the front desk, as he continued to be incredibly attentive through our planning & welcomed our guests generously and provided excellent hospitality. Rooms are great, pricing is reasonable, and the location is excellent, right outside the Lucca wall. The breakfast is excellent with great service. Thank you Albergo!

This hotel offers an ideal location, just a few hundred meters from Lucca's two main gates, easily accessible via a short stroll across the main road. The staff were friendly and efficient, quickly checking us into a standard room on the first floor. While the room was well-appointed, the lack of space for two chairs in a double room felt like a slight oversight. That said, the modern furniture, exceptionally comfortable bed, and cleverly designed bathroom—making the most of minimal space—more than made up for this minor inconvenience. The spa is a delightful little retreat: cozy, fragrant, and offering a range of relaxing amenities, including a sauna, Turkish bath, two large jacuzzis, a sensorial shower, and complimentary tea, towels, bathrobes, and slippers. It’s small but perfectly designed. Overall, the service was top-notch, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A wonderful choice for those seeking modern comfort just a stone's throw from the charm of Lucca's historic walls.

Guests can indulge in delicious meals at the hotel's traditional regional restaurant or unwind with a drink at the American bar after a day of exploring.
This hotel wasn't my all time favorite. The hallways were hot. The rooms were OK temp wise (April) but I wish the windows had screens and functioned a bit different. It had to be wide open or all the way shut. Electricity for heating and air-conditioning is regulated, so if your comfort level is above or below "normal standard" you might struggle a bit at this location. Staff were very nice and answered all our questions. Check in was easy.

I was disappointed. The room was not level of 4*. Very simple, old and very cold. When I come to the room the heating was not working so I went to reception and they switched the heating on. Unfortunately even with heating was the room very cold (I’m used to have 21°C at home but here was not more than 19). Heating in the bathroom was just hanger for towels. Didn’t work. The 3rd day when I came in the evening, tired from business meetings, I realised the heating is off again and the room is super cold. And I needed to go to reception to ask for switch on the heating. For breakfast was almost no vegetables. Only not washed tomatotes so I had to clear the stains on them by the napkins. Also hotel is very gas away from the city centre. More than 30 min by fast walk.
Jaroslava — Google review
Ok, where to start? All based on the room type and price/night, as this should not have been a 2-star motel. Checkin: Probably the longest checkin I had since 2010. All information were given by directly booking through the website, but it seemed like the staff had to type in all again. Simple payment by card took 5minutes. Not unfriendly, but extremly slow/long. Room: Had the "suite", which was in the style of the 90s (so far so good), but lacked any standards of an average room anywhere else. No coffe machine, "Mini-bar" (yes it was called like this) contained 2 small bottles of water which were actually charged (!!!) and not refilled automatically. So no water at all provided... The shower was badly sealed and so small a normal person could not move in there (again, a suite was booked). Bathroom itself was big though. As it got cold in the night, an extra blanked would have been needed. Extra pillows were available, but no blankets. Service: Beside the long duration, the simple request to order a taxi for a certain time, was only possible with multiple calls. The taxi company does not accept pre-orders? Well then the staff should set a timer to call the company the right time. "Service" would be to make sure the guest get`s the taxi at the wished time, independent of what the taxi company requests. (And not call 3 times that they will order it now, it will arrive in 10min and it is there. Last one fine, but if there is a request, the rest is obvious) Also it would have helped to mention the avialbaility of bicycles to go into the city (not the taxi replacement for a trainstation transfer, but standard use). Weird heating and do-not-disturb system. Heating could not be activated or deactivated by the inhabitant (it got down to 7-degrees celcius at night). Do-not-disturb seemed to be deactivated when outside the room? Gym: No water (and again the basic water in the room was charged, absolute no-go), no towles. Otherwise also very basic, which is ok, the few things avialable worked. Wifi: Not really working in my room, despite claimed full connection. Over all this would have been worth a 2-3 star stay for 1/4 of the price, but not with the existing conditions. Oh and location is not really good, as it is a bit too far outside the old town. After the first night, I discovered the electric, rentable bicycles, which the staff should have recommended. Otherwise one would need a car. The rooms terrace was a +, as well as the requested room placement from my booking.
Moritz B — Google review
There is a strange smell in the room. We tried turning on the air-cond but it doesn’t work. The hotel collects a lot of your personal information for unlocking your room wifi (name, address, email) which is not quite necessary (they said it’s for promotional use / joining their member, but they didn’t include any personal privacy terms). Tried using mobile data, but it’s not strong, do not expect too much. Water is not for free so either you prepare your own water or drink from the tap. In general the room is clean, with around 100 euros for a night, I’d say it’s not really worth the price…
Haruka H — Google review
Hotel fairly modern, but lacked facilities, like a swimming pool with spa and bar to relax in after a hot day in town. Rooms are fairly spartan in terms of decor and comfort. Not much in area to investigate. Probably ok for single night business users, but could do better for holiday makers, which we were.
Phil A — Google review
This hotel is clearly not 4 star has a lousy gym with antiquated equipment no availability of coffee restaurant or bar during normal hours if not 24/7. The kettle cannot be plugged in the location provided. There is no blanket covering sheets. It does not compare to other Best Western. Safe deposit box was broken. No lotion provided for guests.
Meena R — Google review
How this can be advertised as a 4 star hotel is incredible as it is no better than a reasonably priced budget hotel. At first glance the outside of the building and the ground floor reception area looks quite impressive but don't be fooled as the bedrooms, whilst quite large are dingy, dull and very austere with limited space and facilities for clothes storage. Additionally there are no USB points for gadget charging and the location of all the plug sockets means scrambling on the floor on hands and knees to plug anything in. This includes the kettle if a hot drink is required. This constitutes a huge Health and Safety issue and is an accident waiting to happen particularly for the more elderly guest. Other points to note include a lack of any sort of bar facilties till 17.00 which means that when we arrived at 11.30am we could not obtain anything to eat or drink until a few disgusting sandwiches and crisps were reluctantly rustled up by the bar manager. The room we were served breakfast in also leaves much to be desired as it is situated in a basement area and more resembles a works canteen than a comfortable eating environment .The fare on offer itself was less than adequate as it was very basic with an extremely poorchoice of either hot or cold food. All in all we were extremely disappointed with the hotel facilities and we're pleased to move out after 3 nights.

A nice hotel, and we had a good stay, but terrible value for money. If this was £300/£350 for 3 nights, I would have rated 5 stars and said how good the pool and breakfast was. But we were expecting so much more for £530 for 3 nights. The bedrooms are small with not nearly enough space to unpack - not nearly like the bedrooms pictured on booking.com. The bedroom wasn’t particularly clean, lamp broken, typical terrible hotel hairdryer and no ironing board. Breakfast was very basic and all but over when we went down at 9.30 one morning. For £530 I’d expect a couple of cooked breakfasts! The breakfast room itself was loud and with so much noise from the kitchen on top. The beautiful outdoor seating/dining area pictured online is actually part of the attached restaurant next door, not used for breakfast or anything else! Staff friendly and the pool area is fantastic; in the sun from 9.30-5.30pm (sept) and a lovely lady who runs it. The Jacuzzi/hot tub however out of order…. We were looking for 3 nights of (a bit more) luxury to round off our time in Italy and we’re happy to pay for it…. Unfortunately we didn’t find it here.

Was a great little spot until the morning we checked out... Packed our bags and went down to breakfast, and before we had even checked out our room had been cleaned - which wouldn't have been a problem except my partner's new bracelet had been left on the bathroom shelf and was no longer there on our return! We searched through the bedding and bin bag with the housekeepers, who seemed helpful despite the language barrier, and mentioned it to the manager on duty as we left. We've also followed up by email with no response - a very disappointing end to what was an otherwise decent experience.

The hotel is unexpected nice, in the middle of nowhere the hotel entry is signaled and after a nice green tunnel entry you will find the parking in a nice internal garden. Sonic pollution or signs of stress aren’t available. Really friendly personal and a nice garden with pool is the common atmosphere all the day. So why not 5 stars? The room was small and the air conditioning was loud. On the service, the breakfast is ok but there isn’t variety so after 2 days you have taste everything. Scramble eggs or fried eggs are not possible to get.

I just checked in room 115 and I didn't find any of the 4 stars. Dirty floor, bad smell, an elevator mirror bigger than the TV and most of all the bathroom is quite scary. Even my pet refused to stay near.

We stayed at Villa Belvedere - what an amazing hidden gem. Don’t know how to put our experience into words. Incredible, stunning views, surrounded by sound of the crickets. Thanks Andrea and family for being the way you are, such pleasant & friendly hosts.

We had an amazing family vacation at Tenuta San Giovanni! The apartment was spacious and clean, perfect for our family of four. The pool was a highlight, and the location was ideal for exploring Lucca city, beach, and the mountains. The hosts were super helpful and friendly, offering great advice and insider tips. The cherry on top was the pasta cooking class they hosted during our stay - what a fun experience! Highly recommend Tenuta San Giovanni to anyone looking for a wonderful Italian getaway. Thanks for the memories!

We stayed for 8 days in June 2023. What a beautiful place to stay in the Lucca countryside. Our apartment was exceptional. Very clean and spacious with all you could want. It had a beautiful pool area where you could relax and enjoy the sunshine. The host Andrea and his family were very welcoming and always offering a nice espresso in the morning. I would recommend Villa San Giovanni to anyone that wants a nice relaxing holiday close the the centre of Lucca.

We had a great time at Villa Livia! The host service was excellent and the staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable. The location is great, with several outdoor spaces to enjoy a meal or a barbeque. The swimming pool area was fantastic and always clean. Parking was convenient and easily accessible. We would definitely go back and highly recommend this place for families traveling together or for a family renting a single house. Our experiences at other locations with this host over the years have also been great, making this the perfect choice for a fantastic getaway. We also highly recommend to try the host family's own olive oil. It is very good and has been a joy to savor back home.

An amazing place to stay close to the Lucca and Pisa. Andrea and his family are the perfect hosts with a vast knowledge of local places to visit and eat. The (Lavanda) House is very comfortable with a great pool and outside space to dine, cook and relax. Car charger at the house perfect for those with EVs. Thanks for the invite to pasta making, one of the highlights of our trips from the UK to Italy.

We had such an amazing time. Mr. Andrea and his family are amazing people and the perfect host! We truly loved our stay here. We have such a large family, seven in total, and they welcomed us with open arms. Our kids were able to play all over the property and even played with their kids. The hospitality was wonderful and Lucca was easily accessible. Supermarkets and places to eat were close. I recommend Nonno Mariano Pizzeria right down the road. Andrea suggested it and it was spectacular. We did Pisa and Explored Lucca as well. We were able to relax on the property and did a ton of swimming in their HUGE pool. The pool was super clean and maintained to the highest standards. Wifi worked perfectly. We were also able to just rest in the comfort of the apartment. Our room was super comfortable and we cooked and ate well. Cannot wait to comeback! Andrea and his family make their own vino as well and the quality was superb.

Palazzo Tucci is a charming B&B located in the heart of Lucca, offering traditional rooms adorned with antiques. The building itself dates back to the 17th century and was once owned by the influential Moriconi family, known for their involvement in the silk industry. The palace has been meticulously renovated and now features six grand bedrooms, each boasting frescoed ceilings and original furniture.
Stunning ornate palazzo located perfectly in the center of the old walled town. Easy to get to from Lucca station, bus 3+ drops you off out front. Fairytale atmosphere, each ceiling is ornately painted, marble, flooring…the accomodation was certainly a highlight of our stay. Then Lucca... what can I say, a marvel I recommend it to anyone who wants something exclusive in the city High standard residence. Great breakfast, friendly host.

Loved our stay at Palazzo Tucci! The hotel is beautiful and the staff was excellent. Our hotel room was very pretty and spacious and the breakfast was really good. Staying in the hotel made us feel like royalty. If we're ever back in Lucca, we will definitely stay at Palazzo Tucci again. 10/10 definitely will recommend to friends and family.

This is not a place for modern minimalist. It has all the weight and beauty of time that has passed. It is a memory rather than a presence. I loved my stay here in the middle of Lucca, particularly the very spacious rooms and the high ceilings. Breakfast room is special in its modesty and regal feel. It is reasonably priced and offers a lot well attuned with Lucca unique protected centre .

The best place I stayed during my three week European tour. When they call it Palazzo, they’re not kidding! It’s an actual palace. My room was gorgeous, the breakfast room so stunning it made me gasp (and a delicious breakfast as well), and a kind and courteous staff. Special thanks to Sandro (a member of the Tucci family), who greeted me and checked me in. He gave me a map and circled every location I wanted to see, showing the exact path I should take, and made other suggestions of sights of interest along my chosen path.

This is a brilliant place to stay in Lucca. The rooms are elegant and spacious with painted ceilings. A delicious breakfast in a grand palace room. Kind and warm service. Car parking. Ideally located for exploring Lucca. Highly recommended.

Our room was fantastic considering the cost , the shower needs redone at least the grouting , the Palazzo is full of character. The location is fantastic and the chance to park is wonderful. The very best thing , even better than the museum like surroundings were the staff , from our meet and greet by Ilaria ( I hope that's correct name) to the housekeeping , the breakfast service and the young guy at check out , the staff were five star, I hope they are appreciated.

Only a few rooms in a lovely old Palazzo still inhabited by the owner on the ground floor. Big and nice rooms and the breakfast room is an epiphany - high ceilings and full of baroque paintings! It didn't feel posh though, but welcomed and very family style. Would definitely recommend it! It's inside the city walls and you can reach all the attractions by foot.

Very interesting and unusual place to stay - 17th century palazzo. It felt exciting living in that environment. Though it looks a bit old at the first glance, it definitely has its charm. I would stay there again if I have a chance. The staff is nice and helpful, it's a family owned palzzo-hotel. I felt lucky I stayed there, highly recommended. P. S. the breakfast is decent, their espresso is just excellent- probably the best I've ever tried. I was wondering what coffee beans they use for espresso - it had such a fruity taste!

Traveled with my wife and two younger adults girls. Had a wonderful 7 night stay at the villa. The Villa is very private and located a short drive away from the Walls of Lucca and the surrounding areas are easily accessible. Recommend having your own car if interested in leaving the property. The hosts are a wonderful family who live on the property. Would definitely stay there again when visiting beautiful Lucca! 😍

We loved our time with Barbara and Gunther at Villa La Preziosa. The rooms were comfortable and decorated with care. Breakfast with champagne in the beautiful garden started our days off right. We had the most amazing stay at Villa Le Preziosa. The rooms was so beautiful and clean, air condition worked perfectly. The atmosphere around the Villa was so wonderful and the garden was so peaceful. Breakfast was amazing too! The service was as great as everything else.
Yasmin S — Google review
We had a very pleasant stay and we agree with all the positive reviews from previous guests regarding the hosts and the gorgeous villa. Guests however, need to be mindful that this is a bed and breakfast establishment and that due to its location it is beneficial to have a car. The hosts are very happy to offer drinks/light lunches but it obviously depends on them being available. Availability in the evening is very limited. The villa is located in an urban area and as such there are no cafes/bars that you could pop to in the evening. Hiring bikes from the villa to cycle to Lucca is great, but the walk is quite difficult (at least 30 - 40 minutes) due to the location and we struggled with finding taxi's to bring us back from Lucca in the evening.
Carol E — Google review
We've had an amazing 3-night stay at the villa. The hosts went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. The villa is remote and quiet and it has an amazing breakfast buffet. The room itself was extremely comfortable and everything in it and around the villa feels new and premium. There was a lot of effort put into restoring this place, and keeping it running and that is very visible. Great pool area, easy parking on the premises. I will recommend this place to everyone travelling to Lucca.
Mircea S — Google review
Ok…just finished our stay. Every picture and every comment regarding Villa La Preziosa is 100% accurate. The only thing I would add is that the breakfast is extremely good. This place is wonderful. It’s not just the beauty of the gardens, the warm clean building, the beautiful rooms and the comfortable beds; it’s the gracious hosts. The owners are highly engaged and are genuinely wonderful people who do all they can to ensure your stay is amazing and memorable. If traveling through Tuscany, stay here for at least 2 nights (more if you can) and relax and enjoy. Go see Lucca, walk the peaceful town (very safe) with lots of shopping down narrow paths and many good restaurants. We rode bikes to the town from the Villa (about a 10 min ride) and walked the town. We spent the afternoons relaxing in the Villa garden, drinking coffee and wine. Visiting Lucca and staying at the Villa is an experience you will always remember.

Best hotel experience I’ve ever had. If you are visiting Lucca, you have to stay at Villa La Preziosa. The villa is spectacular in all aspects, beautiful grounds, incredible rooms, and top notch service. It is family run, and they make you feel like family during your stay. Barbara, Gunther and Julian are as good as they come! They even went as far to bring me a birthday cake and the whole staff sang me happy birthday after they found out I was celebrating a birthday while staying with them. I cannot say enough amazing things about this place. If there was a 6-star rating, Villa La Preziosa would receive 6-stars from me! Thank you Barbara, Gunther, Julian and staff for lifelong memories.

This villa was a dream. I stayed at 6 different places during my road trip in Tuscany and this was by far my favorite. Though the room itself (oleandro) was not huge, everything was so comfortable. I felt like I could’ve stayed here for at least a few more days/weeks since it felt so homey. The shower, the bed, the pillows were amazing and everything was sparkly clean. Barbara and her team and family were so accommodating. Highly recommend checking into this dreamy villa.

The hotel is almost 30 minutes away from city center therefore the two stars. Otherwise a nice drive from the hotel to the city center if you have a vehicle. We checked in late in the night, but our room was not cleaned from the previous occupants. Used towels on the floor, bed unmade and lots of mosquitoes. We were told to go back down and wait till the room got cleaned at 10 in the night as they could not provide us with an alternative room. Very disappointed. Breakfast was fine. I would have given only one star for the service regarding the room cleaning, but the two stars are for the breakfast staff that helped during breakfast and generally being polite. They can definitely be better if they look at the details.

Rooms were decent, pool was lovely. Restaurant food was the worst meal I have ever had in a restaurant. Avoid this restaurant at all costs. Flys and ants in the dining area, Horrible food and when we reviewed the bill on check out additional items had been added that we didn't order or have.
Barry R — Google review
We arrived earlier than expected after cycling during a very hot day. They made an effort to make our room ready earlier. There are positives, but our experience had many negatives. My daughter had fallen down during the ride and grazed her knee. Despite this being very evident, we were not even asked if she/we needed anything. Yes. We put this within the context of being asked about her knee in several hotels after we left this one. The hotel has a storage room for bicycles and we were never offered to use it. We only saw it existed when we checked out and we saw other guests taking their bicycles out. And they knew we were cycling from the moment we arrived... Let's move on to the restaurant... Due to my daughter's knee issue, we decided to have dinner there. We were the only customers. The dinner was nice, but very over-priced. We had much better quality meals in Lucca for a much better cost. When we finished the meal they were very quick to bring the bill without even asking if we wanted dessert/coffee. We of course ordered dessert, ate, paid and left. Breakfast... Not a bad one, with lots of variety and selection, but we noticed that despite being busy, all their eggs and warm meals were not being kept warm at the buffet. Our eggs were at room temperature when we were served them. The coffee was not great either. The worst amongst several hotel we visited. Many in the same region as this one. The rooms... Ours was spacious with a very large and comfortable balcony. However, the air-conditioning despite working was not cooling the room. Staying cool in the room was for us an act of survival. We thought it was due to high external heat, but yet again... We were in other hotels in the region even during warmer days and the A/C worked like wonders. Lastly, their plugs for charging mobiles and devices were very limited and use non-standard EU plugs. We had to unplug the fridge to charge our mobiles by turns because it was the only plug that worked. Location... About 3 km from Lucca. That is not the center of Lucca as some replies in other reviews seem to emphasize. The taxi from the hotel costs 20-30 euros. That tells you how close to Lucca's centre it actually is. If you do not have your own/rented car and you are expecting to be close to things, then don't stay here. This was not a problem for us even on bicycles, but still worth mentioning it. Marketing of the hotel itself is very misleading. "The peaceful surroundings, filled with fruit trees, vineyards and olive groves" seriously disappoint. They are there, but quite far from the hotel and not accessible from the hotel itself (unless you are keen on jumping fences, invading your neighbour's garden, and things like that). The hotel itself has limited green spaces beyond those that surround the swimming pool. And they have limited fruit trees. The swimming pool however, is very nice and we had a good time using it. More on customer service... Because of my daughter's knee accident, we spent most of our first/second day in the room with the "don't disturb" sign outside the door. Nevertheless, there was ample time without the sign and we were not even asked if we needed a change of towels or our bin emptied. This is something that yet again was done in other hotels that in contrast showed better customer service. Even in hotels for which we paid less. So in summary... We do not recommend this hotel at all. I usually give places a second opportunity. In fact I only tend to write reviews when I have nothing negative to say. Our experience was however, so bad that it would be unfair to future customers not to say it. It is a place to avoid as it stands. Hopefully management can address these issues and make the hotel much better. It certainly has the potential, but check other reviews after this one for improvement before booking.

Great hotel close to the centre of Lucca - slightly outside the city walls but only a short walk away. I stayed here for 3 nights on a business trip. It is a good location, with restaurants and sights close by. The hotel was clean, smelled great in the lobby, and was very fresh and cool inside, which was welcome in a 40 degree heatwave! The rooms was comfortable and spacious, with a good bathroom and plenty of storage. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and prepared my invoice with company details in advance, so check-out was really quick on the final morning. The breakfast was very good, and it was nice to have fresh coffee served to the table instead of a machine. The hotel has a small pool, which looked very relaxing, but unfortunately I didn't get time to try it! I'd definitely return to this hotel next time I am in the area.

A wonderful and cozy hotel where you feel at home from the very first moments! The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive—always ready to help, offer advice, or simply brighten your day. My room was spacious, bright, and impeccably clean, with regular housekeeping and everything needed for a comfortable stay. I especially enjoyed the pool and the on-site restaurant—such a pleasant way to start the day with a delicious and varied breakfast. I came for a music festival and fully immersed myself in the festive and joyful atmosphere. I had an unforgettable time! I’m especially grateful to the hotel staff: on the day of my departure, there was a railway strike, and thanks to their help and care, I managed to continue my journey without stress. This place left me with warm and happy memories. I would love to return again!

Hotel San Marco was a wonderful place to stay in Lucca. The location is great—just a short walk from the beautiful walled city, making it easy to explore. The swimming pool was a nice bonus, perfect for relaxing after sightseeing. Fabio at the front desk was outstanding—friendly, helpful, and even taught us a few phrases in Italian. He also gave us great recommendations for places to eat inside the walled city, which turned out to be some of our favorite meals in Lucca. The lady at the snack bar and breakfast service was equally delightful, always courteous and providing exceptional service that made the morning feel special. Hotel San Marco offered both comfort and genuine hospitality, making our time in Lucca even more memorable.

Not easy to find, but a great location once you have your bearings. It’s on the third floor of an old building, so shares an entranceway and lift with the other residents. It’s charming and comfortable, if a little frayed, but ideal for a short stay. The staff are all family and very friendly and helpful, the breakfast is freshly prepared each morning and changes slightly each day, again the best description is charming. Only problem we encountered, liking to walk down (use the lift up) is that the lights go off halfway down in what is a dark medieval staircase, so potentially awkward, but at least we had phones to light our way. Lucca, again is charming and if we came again, we would happily stay here.

Visitors thinking of using this bed and breakfast (its not a hotel) during the summer months need to be aware some of the rooms do not have air conditioning. When the temperature is 30C+ you will need it and the small ceiling fan provided in some rooms is inadequate. The establishment are also reluctant to turn on the air-con in the reception/breakfast area. The room was advertised as having a mini bar, there wasn't one. The dated bathroom had a tiny shower which was difficult to get into. The TV channels are all in Italian. The advertised hotel shuttle bus didn't exist. Instead we were advised to pay €100 for the 30 minute taxi. Apparently there is a beautiful roof top terrace with views over Lucca, we asked twice as residents if we could have a drink there to be told "No"...due to private parties. I can not recommend this establishment and will not return.

The most wonderful stay to celebrate a special occasion. The rooms are unique, the staff fantastic, the atmosphere perfect, and location unbeatable. Lucca is the most perfect historic city and a stay here is highly recommended. P.S. Breakfast was also delicious!!

What a magical place! To be sure, you will feel as if you have been transported into a fairy tale while staying here. Our already-incredible trip to the gorgeous city of Lucca was only accentuated by a stay in the elegant Palazzo Rocchi. And I must praise the service as well: the staff were unfailingly kind and helpful throughout our stay.

Nice b&b in the heart of the city, one whole floor in a historical building where there are also other family apartments. My room was quiet with a view on Torre dell Orologio, but I give two stars as in the room there was no warm water. There was an old gas heater that did strange noises and switched on/off continuously, alternating a varely cool with ice cold water. I asked the staff to check, and of course, when they came, the water flowed warm. "You see, it works!". As soon as the staff was gone, the water was back ice cold and there stayed. When I checked out, I pointed it out, and all I got was, "Oh, sorry, we need to call a technician then." I left my luggage, and when back for picking it up, I asked whether I could use the restroom, but I was told it was not possible as the rooms had been cleaned for the new guests (still to checkin) and they did not have another bathroom to propose.

Perfect location in the center of Lucca. Homemade breakfasts at the elegant dining room are amazing. The environment is very nice, same as the staff, always willing to help. The bedroom, super cozy and nice. I definitely recommend!

Hotel Villa Volpi is a charming hilltop retreat in Tuscany, offering a unique and delightful experience for hosting weddings or simply enjoying a romantic getaway. The large suite boasts stunning countryside views through floor-to-ceiling windows, while the hotel's peaceful location provides a serene atmosphere. Guests can relax by the swimming pool with panoramic views of the Tuscan landscape. The attentive staff, including the owner, ensures a warm and welcoming stay, accommodating last-minute changes with kindness and providing valuable local recommendations.
We spent 10 days in this absolutely wonderful place. The room was spacious, the food really amazing and the views just impeccable. The whole hotel and its gardens, including infinity pool with views down the hills with Lucca in the distance, is to die for. Above all this the service was really great by all staff and they went above and beyond to accommodate all our special wishes. We highly recommend Hotel Villa Volpi and will definitely be staying here when we are next in the region.

We arrived and went inside the guy took us to the first room and it wasn’t good. It didn’t look like the picture and you could hear some interesting activity’s upstairs, asked for another room and didn’t give us what we paid for once again. He finally showed us to a room far away and we walked in and it was damp and musty. Apparently it was dedicated to the winery but the wine hadn’t been dusted in what looked like over 12 years and I had to sleep on a camp stretcher. Not great. Dinner was nice. I’m fairly sure it was the owners wife who was serving us. Didn’t give us horse. In the listing it said good wifi. It wasn’t good. The view was great but the rooms weren’t.

WARNING!!! This place is extremely deceitful. We booked a room on Booking.com and when we arrived, we were shown to 3 different rooms none of which looked anything like what we booked. We later realised that they use the best photos of multiple different rooms and advertise it as one the manager is extremely rude and refused to help us with anything that we needed. He was also extremely rude to the other staff member on a positive note. The woman who welcomed us was extremely lovely. Marco is not a very nice person 😂. When I spoke to Booking.com, I had found out that Marco lied to them telling them the room was as advertised. We decided not to stay as we felt very uncomfortable by him

From start to finish we loved every moment. We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children, both our girls aged 11/15 had no complaints at all about the villa. We would usually expect to hear ‘I am bored dad/mum’ not a word from them :). The food was lovely, it’s simple and just great. We loved the pasta and meat/vegetarian dishes on offer as well as the deserts. The pool, it was clean, had lots of seating, amazing views and it wasn’t too busy which is what we liked the most. There were guests around but they were all really friendly and nice, talkative and just overall good :) Marco who owns the place, great chap, very helpful, his staff also really nice and helpful. I can’t stress enough how relaxing it is to be here. You really do unplug here, you recharge the batteries :) Food wise Breakfast is 0830 - 0930 or later if you want :) Lunch 1300 - 1400 - lite selections or pasta if the kids want that, what kid doesn’t want pasta ? :). There are options the staff can offer. My kids are fussy eaters, no issue here :). Dinner 2030 - 2230 - pasta dishes, with or without meat, deserts, ice creams etc. All fresh made and simply delicious! Drinks wise, you have a bar here, usual spirits, Prosecco, champagne, wines, soft drinks you name it! :) Rooms wise, we had a lovely spacious set of 2 rooms on the ground floor. We had our own terrace, our own back access to the shared pool. The rooms are clean, and very spacious. Now this is a Villa Hotel, so it’s not a full on hotel with speedy service. Marco and his staff will do their best to assist you. This is actually much better than the hotel service feel you would typically get as it’s much more personal and just overall better ! :) Travel wise, you can order a taxi, it takes about 20 mins to arrive at the villa from Lucca. I would recommend you hire a car if possible, otherwise you can just go to Lucca, and or travel to Pisa by local train from Lucca station. Trains are cheap as they are part subsidised I was told. But overall I would highly recommend this as a place to relax, get your batteries recharged. We will definitely be considering coming back !
Simon F — Google review
The only good thing was the view. Service was way below average, you can compare it to a low budget Hotel, you have to walk around the Hotel area finding someone to serve you. Diner in the evening consisted of a few simple meals, to chose from, but priced as if it was something special. I ordered red wine, and the wine that was served had air temprature, around 35 degrees. The pool was dirty and had some algae coating. Water and soda was overpriced, konsidered there was no other way to get water in the area, in the very hot summer sun.
Ivan K — Google review
The manager Marco is extremely rude and deceitful. He tried to put us in multiple different rooms that we had not booked. We later learnt the room we had booked, does not exist. Marco made us so uncomfortable we decided to leave.

We stayed at Castello di Mammoli, which is a part of the Hotel Villa Volpi. Note: If staying at the Castello, you will check in at the Hotel first! This can be confusing if you are following your phone's GPS directions. Marco checked us in and brought us to our room, which was much appreciated as it was quite late in the night and dark. I highly recommend dining and enjoying the wine at the Hotel--quite reasonably priced considering the awe inducing nature of the surroundings. It is such a beautiful area and they have treated the property and it's history with great care. Enjoy your stay, we should have added another night! It was a perfect addition to our honeymoon. Cheers

Have never had a better experience and have never seen a more beautiful surrounding. Firstly, it is the owner and the staff that made us feel so welcome and so special. They were fine with our last minute cancellation (at mindight , due to transport problems !) And fine with us rescheduling. They were really kind and allowed a later check out at no cost. Also they were very informative and heed find a great restaurant I'm the nearby village. The views are phenomenal and would go back again tomorrow !!!

Villa Pardi is an elegant B&B located in the Tuscan countryside just outside Lucca, near Nozzano Castello village. The 18th-century villa boasts polished rooms and apartments, some with kitchenettes, retaining their original features like frescoes and finishings. The grand entrance hall sets the tone for a luxurious stay, while the manicured gardens offer a swimming pool and scenic hill views. Guests can enjoy delicious breakfasts and friendly staff who are accommodating with requests.
Villa Pardi is such a wonderful place to relax, and to discover the nearby Tuscan/Ligurian towns and surroundings. The hosts are incredible. They're super friendly, and even helped us out when we had car troubles. Couldn't recommend more!

Staff were nice. Nice location for a quiet break if you’re a little older and not looking to go out much. The Amenities are very different from the UK’s standard. If you’re okay with not having towels, proper bed sheets and air con it is fine for a stay. It’s not awful but is over priced for what you get with the rooms. Also breakfast is just meat, juice and yoghurt, again it’s a different standard as to what the money for breakfast would get you in the UK, but fine for some.

Staying at Villa Pardi was definitely a good idea. Our room was clean, breakfast was delicious and we always could count on help and recommendations of Cinzia. In your free time you can relax at the swimming pool and in the beautiful garden area. This place is also dog friendly and we felt here like at home. I can definitely recommend it

Great old rural mansion converted to a hotel. Serene location. Good shower pressure but on the smaller side. Comfortable beds and nice farm views. Not good sound proofing if there are other loud guests; and old houses have creek doors. Staff is great. Included breakfast is average. Pool is amazing.

We came from a really bad experience with another property, and we got welcomed by the most friendly staff of Villa Pardi. After she showed us our loverly room we immediately asked to stay longer. Although it was high season our host made no problem at all, she did some shuffling around and made sure we could stay in our room for three more days! Thanks Cinzia! You are lovely! We will come back next year! WiFi is a bit slow so don’t bring your spoiled kids needing fast WiFi to play games. 😉

The place was super nice. Everything was clean and the hosts were super friendly and helpful. It has AC which was amazing for the hot summer. It has a private and safe parking. It’s 8 minutes walking to the city center, and the neighborhood was super safe. It has air purifiers in every room (even bathrooms) and it is well equipped regarding kitchen appliances. I would really recommend the place.

We did not regret choosing to stay at this place for four days on our trip. First of all, it is right next to the historical city wall, a few minutes and you can already enjoy the historical city with all the entertainment. And also after long walks, it's great to return to quiet and tidy apartments. Extra kudos to the host who offered other apartments without any problems because the air conditioner was not working in the first ones.

We lived in a spacious, new, clean, luxurious apartment and was so well taken care of by the staff. The apartment had 3 bedrooms, each with high hotel standard- so we were really paying for 3 hotelrooms with a living space as a bonus! Breakfast was ordered a day ahead and served fresh on a tray at our desired time the next morning. Its located just a few minutes outside the walls, on a quiet street- with free parking. The price is VERY reasonable. This comes highly recommended and we would definately come there again! Our children would rather stay in the apartment than eat icecream! Hurry up and book now, the prices are bound to go up!!

Le Dimore del Borg Hotel Apartements located just a few minuts outside the city walls of Lucca was a brillant choice. The place opened only recently and is both luxurious, spacious and modern. Each of the apartements are decorated in it's own unique way according to a certain theme. We stayed in The Traveller. It is a very spacious 2-bedroom and 2-bathroom apartement with a complete kitchen and dishwasher, aircondition and luxurious bathrooms, large closets, very tasteful decor and a long small balcony facing a side street. There is free parking in a fenced-in lot on the back of the building, airconditionned reception and elevator in the 3-story building. Code keys come with every apartemen. During reception opening hours check-in and -out is handled most dedicated and politely by the very kind and accommodating staff. Breakfast can be ordered the day before on menues and apart from a minor mistake of our requested no-sugar items everything was freshly made and packed for our order specifically. Pricerange is perhaps towards the high end, but the experience in all was very much worth the cost - we can highly recommend Le Dimore del Borgo and will seriously consider staying there next time we need accomodations in Lucca

Lovely historic and quaint hotel in a very central location. Avoid the front first floor room No. 21 as the windows don't keep the sound out of the character-filled lane outside! Very comfortable and friendly. I broke my ankle and could not stay in previously booked apartment. This resort was the best thing that could have happened. Ground floor, easy access with wheelchair and crutches. Easy to shower. Staff went above and beyond to accommodate. Ist day my husband had to go out, Dana came and checked on me to make sure I was ok or if I needed anything. Amazing staff! Do yourself a favour, if you come to Lucca, book San Marco Holiday. Very close to the old city walls and a lovely walk.. Thank You everyone at San Marco Holiday, you made my stay very comfortable.

Genuenly amazing staff, everyone was super friendly I sprained my ankle during my vacation (had nothing to do with the hotel), the manager (Stefano) did not only help me get an ambulance to the hospital, but he also came and picked me up and drove me back from the hospital, as well as offering us a swap to a room on the ground floor, so i didnt have to limp up the stairs. The rooms were nice and clean, as expected, and the staff were quick to provide us with extra kitchen equipment if we needed it (a kettle, sharper bread knife etc.). The wi-fi is a bit shaky, but it works fine for casual browsing, and you're not there to watch netflix all day anyway. Would definitively consider staying here again if i ever was to visit Lucca another time.

Our room had a lot of a damp so we decided to not to spend the night. The room was filthy , the rug was stained , there was dirt on the bed, the bath had strange brown spots. The place smelled like damp. The pool was not operational even it was mentioned before that it would be operational in June see other reviews. The hotel positions itself as a boutique hotel but there is nothing boutique. The rooms do not have a mini bar nor tea or coffee bar. If you like the ancient way of life in a traditional building then this could be your place. Very curious to see where this so called hotel gets its 5* rating from. To me this is a low end BnB. The parking is very limited. Had to park the car in a weird position up the hill. In the end we refused to stay since also for our little one (10 months old) the damp is not healthy. Pictures say enough. Also the reaction of the host based on our booking review says enough. This Hotel is a scam. Plus I have never asked for a refund anyway since they can use that better to fix up the place.
Tim L — Google review
Beware of this place and its shady owner. I arrived to this old, unkempt villa after a 40 Euro cab ride from Lucca. I went up and down stairs calling for someone to attend to me or anyone else to be on the property. No one ever did and I was convinced that the villa had closed for the season while they were going to undergo repairs, and that they’d forgotten to take down the listing. 100 euro round trip cab ride later and a nearly 40 min cab ride and the proprietor charged my a full two nights stay, even though no one was there to admit me, no human being was at the villa which felt extremely unsafe for a single woman, and he never once responded to my attempts that day and in the days preceding to communicate with him.
Kate B — Google review
I don’t think labelling this as a “luxury boutique hotel” is honest or accurate. There’s no restaurant, bar, or any real facilities. Naz, who works in the property, was very nice and helpful, but generally only reachable by WhatsApp as there really is nobody on the property that we could see. For us, the friendly service unfortunately didn’t overshadow the high price, lack of facilities on site, room (large, but bad smell of damp and little to no water pressure in the shower at times) and location (long drive up a very narrow winding road). Property itself is interesting - this might be what many visitors value over other factors, but would urge guests to do their research before booking. If looking for a B&B in an interesting property, this might be for you. But if looking for a true “luxury boutique hotel” I would not recommend.
Ken R — Google review
It was not a great experience at all. Place is being renovated. There is no water or hot water at times. If someone else in the building is using water, there is nothing coming out of the taps. Electrical issues. Some rooms don't have aircon and if they do they don't work well. You need a car as it is far away, cannot walk to shops or restaurants. Emily, the hostess, was great and tried to make it comfortable. You have to carry your bags a long way.. poor girl did her best to help. Her French boss, the owner, is a real piece of work. He tries to blame and shame guests who complain, without ever admitting or acknowledging the problems. If we didn't book the villa for 10 people, we would have moved out on day 1. Advertised as 5 Star boutique villa but really nothing more than an overpriced B&B. Will never go back again.

I am often having an Italian breakfast there, cappuccino, coffee and a croissant (cornetto in Italian). Cappuccino is made with fresh milk, cornettos are fresh and coffee (espresso) tastes good. A choice of three newspapers (all Italian). Service is friendly, in the Italian/European way, which may appear a bit “unfriendly” to people coming from countries outside Europe. I usually pay around 4 euros for a cappucino, coffee and a cornetto, depending on the type of cornetto I order.

A great place to stay just out of the old historic center of Lucca. The service was great and enjoyed the breakfast which was fully complete. And as a pilgrim a good breakfast is important. Grazie mille

The Hotel Napoleon in Lucca offers uncomplicated accommodations with balconies, as well as amenities such as Wi-Fi, breakfast, a restaurant, and a bar. Located in the Lucca Historical Center district, the hotel is situated within walking distance of Guinigi Medieval Tower and St Martin Cathedral. It is also just a short drive from the Basilica of San Frediano. This 4-star establishment conveniently provides free parking and rooms equipped with air conditioning, television, and minibars.
I'm having a great stay! Despite being on a busy street the windows seal noise well. My room is bright and cosy, but the real shining star of the establishment are the staff. Exceptional from first greeting, with daily smiles guaranteed. Also the quality/variety of the breakfast is the best of my trip - delicioso e grazie mille tutti!!

Our stay was good, the staff was amazing, the hotel is well located (even though the metro station in front of it is closed), and the room was clean. Parking was more complicated than we thought when we read that the hotel had a parking lot (they recommended to either park on the street or in a garage that charges 25 EUR for a one night stay). We really recommend to do everything by metro or walking, since many of the attractions are in a 30 minutes walk distance. Besides that, our reservation at Agoda was showing some sort of small breakfast and when we arrived at the hotel, the staff informed us that the breakfast was not included.

It’s a basic hotel that will be adequate for the price. I wouldn’t say it’s 4 stars. But the staff is friendly and they offer an okay breakfast, nothing fancy. The rooms are clean the view on the top floors are good, no tea or coffee station in the rooms No disability access at the front door
Mostafa I — Google review
I have relayed the following to the hotel and they have given me an apology and explained that the staff member in question was under stress and incapable of managing Lucca Festival guests due to technical issues. Quite rightly, they have acknowledged that this is no excuse for treating guests so badly and she has proved herself unfit for a role demanding stress management and professionalism. I should have received an apology before my departure so I will leave this review in the hope the hotel management will offer the staff member in question some training in management and customer service. I give two stars for the breakfast staff who were so friendly and welcoming it was really lovely going down in the mornings to smiling, happy faces. Unfortunately, I cannot give more due the unprofessional behaviour of an extremely rude woman who greeted me on arrival to the hotel on October 31st 23. Very little information was given on check-in and she was cold and unwelcoming but on entering my room I found it to be stiflingly hot so came down to reception to ask whether the air con could be fixed (it wasn't working) or whether the heating could be turned off. She gave me an insolent look and - to keep the review short - kept telling me it was my problem and there was nothing that could be done. Apparently other guests wanted the rooms like a sauna to dry their clothes after a wet day and there was no individual room control!? An unacceptable situation as the hotel now agrees, and I assume she's used to being rude to guests and frightening people away but of course I told her that wasn't good enough and I needed a resolution. She then rolled her eyes and huffed before proceeding to ridicule me to a pair of Italian guests in Italian, gesticulating at me with a sneer on her face. Her behaviour was petulant, childish, and downright disgusting; as a former travel professional I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I have never, in thousands of hotels, faced such utterly pathetic behaviour, and I strongly suggest the hotel reviews her employment in this role since she is clearly incapable of controlling herself under pressure. The other staff have been friendly, helpful, and polite so she gives the hotel a bad reputation for absolutely no benefit. Clearly, she is unfit for guest relations. This would have been a much better review without her. This is not to mention a young man who stared at me throughout like a constipated sausage dog. The rooms are pretty clean, an okay size, the shower was hot and the bed was turned down daily. I fixed the heat by opening the windows but the hotel is on a very busy, rather ugly road and there was quite a lot of noise. The location is outside the old town and the walk is close but not very nice with a very busy road, bad paths and a general sense you're walking in from no-man's land. As I say, breakfasts are good and the morning staff excellent. For the record, I like to give positive reviews but when there's someone this awful, it has to be said. The hotel should have given me an apology before my departure.

The hotel is next to a busy road that gets quiet after rush hour. My room was clean and comfortable on the quiet back side of the hotel You can reach the old part of Lucca walking via a partly quiet route through one of the gates in the old wall. The breakfast buffet was very good

Unfortunately this was far out the worst hotel we've been so far! During our roadtrip through Tuscany we booked 1 night at this place (July 9-10) and reserved a "comfort room" for a higher price because it actually was my birthday. Well, definitely not a 'comfort' room and I would think they gave us the worst room of the hotel and made us pay 150 EUR! The room was super small, we couldn't even walk behind the bed because there was only 20cm space, and then you had to bend to avoid the tv that was on the wall (but not in front of the bed and could not move). There was mold in the bathroom (!) and the airco didn't work properly. Think it was the only room with no view and no balcony either. When my partner asked if it really was the comfort room we booked, the lady at the front desk was very rude to him and said that it was a comfort because the bathroom was updated (but moldy??? so updated 10 years ago???) and thát was what made it a comfort, not the square meters (which was maybe 15m² incl bathroom), and there were no other rooms available anymore. Maybe she just had a bad day, but she was aweful. Wish we never booked this room, if it wasn't so late and we hadn't paid for it, we would have left! We will end with one positive note: breakfast was great, and the personal working in the morning were very friendly. Too bad our stay was already ruined...

About a five minute drive to the edge of town. The interior of the rooms was quite dated and garish, but everything felt relatively clean and was useable. Breakfast was reasonable. We stayed on a Wednesday night and the club next door played very loud dance music until midnight. I probably wouldn't stay here again.

Nestled within the enchanting walls of Lucca, Albergo San Martino is a charming and intimate hotel that perfectly captures the essence of this historic city. With its warm and inviting rooms, guests can enjoy modern amenities like free Wi-Fi while soaking in the old-world charm that defines Lucca. The hotel features a cozy bar and lounge area, as well as a lovely furnished terrace where you can unwind after exploring the vibrant streets nearby.
We got the last room available ( in the hotel’s dependance), which was compact , but well organized, and immaculate. Location near the Duomo excellent. Front desk mgr is a pleasant dynamo. Breakfast excellent , with good espresso and freshly squeezed OJ. Our car is parked in a non ZTL lot, but I do worry about getting fined for our short trip to the lot.

A great family run hotel in a very good location. Breakfast was outstanding and a very good atmosphere thanks to the friendly and helpful staff. English spoken as well, which was a bonus. Nothing was too much trouble!

The hotel is very good in great location and is wheelchair accessible in the ground floor. It has also a wheelchair accessible room. We parked our rented car in the parking of the hotel and we paid all the appropriate amount to the hotel for the parking. BUT the community of Lucca, after a few months, send us a Fine for parking in the parking of the hotel!!!! We send all the documents and contact the municipality of Lucca and the hotel in order to delete the fine but still nothing. After 2 years we are still trying to get this fine deleted and still nothing. This should not be our problem!!!It is a problem between the municipality of Lucca and the hotel!!! We have done nothing wrong. We paid the appropriate rent for the parking to the hotel as they told us. So everything was ok and legal from our part. DO NOT USE THE PARKING OF THE HOTEL, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE TOURIST AND YOU DONT SPEAK ITALIAN!!!

After shaky start at the Albergo Diana we were moved to the all round better adjacent Hotel san martino. Same management but far superior room. The staff at San Martino are marvellous most especially Fabriscio and Nicola the managers. PROBLEM for older guests is the Albergo Diana entrance steps. 5 steep steps with no handrail, nothing to make it secure for guests. On exiting the doors which are heavy it's easy yo be pushed down as the door closes towards you. RECOMMEND San Martino to avoid this problem

I use the Bounce Luggage storage here. I was recommended by my friend to use Bounce Luggage. It's so easy to use, with lots of available storage locations you can choose. Easily booked and paid in the website. Next day when I went to this hotel I simply showed my booking confirmation and dropped the luggage, then picked my luggage at the later time of the day, very convenient and simple, price is reasonable. The hotel itself is very beautiful, staff were friendly and had easy communication, also the hotel reception closed at a later time than other locations which gave much more flexibility on the time to come back to pick the luggage.

Rooms are a bit dated (not the bathroom though) and walls are thin (could hear everything!), but staff is friendly and breakfast gets 5 stars. Great location as well, close to the railway station as well as the old city.

I highly recommend this lovely hotel that serves a delicious breakfast! The staff is very helpful and friendly. We stayed in an annex room that was spacious and appeared brand new. While it’s inside the city walls it is quiet. Fabbrizzio allowed us to store our bicycles and bike bags in a convenient locked room.

Lucca In Villa Elisa & Gentucca is a charming, well-maintained guesthouse with spacious and airy rooms. A garden is available for guests to enjoy. The property offers free breakfast and free WiFi. Lucca Railway Station is 1 km away.
Charming little villa right next to the walls of Lucca ensured a pleasant stay. High ceilings and tiled floor (might be cold for some in the winter). The breakfast was decent and the coffee good. The host is kind and attentive, the self check.in process is clear. The property is about a 15-min walk from the train station, but there's a bus just next to it, takes you around the walls or to the station. Beds are very comfortable I must say and the bathroom spacious. Very quiet and peaceful here at least in the winter and you'll get a great night's sleep. Great value for price.

This bed and breakfast is perfect for a couple nights’ stay in Lucca. Located right across from the city walls, restaurants and shopping. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful - especially Elizabeth at reception who recommended excellent restaurants and called to make reservations. Nice breakfast included. Rooms are nothing fancy, just basic, but clean and comfortable beds, excellent housekeeping and good a/c! Highly recommend; we thoroughly enjoyed our stay :)

We initially checked in early but the room was not ready so we left our bags with reception. When we returned at 9pm, there was no one at the reception. We were not warned that this would be the case. As travellers from outside of Italy, if we hadn't purchased a phone card in advance, allowing us to call the manager, we'd have been stuck without a room or our luggage for the whole night. The side door was built in a way that if you open it the first time without knowing about it, you were bound to injure your right thumb. They don't have soap or shampoo dispensers in their bathroom, only packets of shampoo/soap (which was not enough). When we asked for more for the 2nd night, they still did not supplement us with enough.

Just had three days in Villa Elisa in Lucca. Lovely welcome, great rooms with marbled floors, quiet air-conditioning (which we needed in high temperatures!). Lovely range of breakfast food too. Highly recommended and also so great to be able to leave the hire car in their car park. Staff are so friendly too. A real find!

An excellent B&B/ hotel in a lovely villa. Lovely and clean room and bathroom, coffee- and tea-making facilities, a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was very good and extensive with fruit, sweet pastries, toast, rolls, cheese, ham etc (so Italian as well as Continental). Excellent service, very friendly and helpful staff that speak Italian as well as English. And all this at a stones throw from the famous Lucca wall. Highly recommend!

A good guest house. Lovely staff. Being here you have a feeling that personal really cares about guests. The only thing to improve -to make anything possible with common walls between bath room of one guest and bed wall of another one. Because in deep night, when someone takes shawer, it's impossible to sleep:(. Special thanks for modern design:)

Our travel agent Frui Vita Travel found us the very best hotels for our trip and this hotel was our last before returning home. Everything about this hotel was amazing, an old villa right on the edge of Lucca centre, they owners could not have been more helpful, they let us check in early, have us free car parking, a map of all the things to see and the best places to eat. The breakfast was wonderful and Elizabeth the owner went out of her way to make our time here so very special, we checked out but they said leave the car here and we will give you a code to get into the villa when you come back to go to use the facilities xx 🩷💙🏡 this is a definite return to hotel xxx

There was a lot we loved about this place, but unfortunately the negatives wouldn’t see us return. The location is amazing, the staff are lovely and the rooms were lovely and clean. But for us the negatives are noisy people above us pushing furniture around (maybe the furniture could have those felt pads attached). As with a lot of older buildings it was quite noisy hearing everyone coming and going into the night. We may have just been unlucky with some noisy neighbors but it wasn’t great for us.

A Charming but Overpriced Stay at the Gates of Lucca This bed and breakfast, set in a charming old mansion right at one of the entrances to the walled town of Lucca, makes a strong first impression. The location is excellent — just steps from the historic center, offering easy access to everything the town has to offer. The common areas are tastefully eclectic, full of personality and character. A particularly nice touch is the permanent buffet available throughout the day, with fruit and cakes on hand for guests to enjoy at any time. The staff were also very friendly and helpful, adding to the overall warm and welcoming atmosphere. However, for the price, the stay didn’t quite live up to expectations. While the room continued the eclectic aesthetic, the quality wasn’t consistent — especially in the bathroom, where fixtures and finishes felt tired and low-grade. The bed was quite uncomfortable due to a very soft mattress that lacked support. Soundproofing was also a significant issue: we could clearly hear other guests moving about and talking, as well as traffic from the street outside, which made restful sleep difficult. The old shutters hadn’t been properly restored and didn’t close fully, allowing in a lot of light both at night and in the early morning. Additionally, our room was on the first floor with no lift access, making it inconvenient for carrying luggage — something to be aware of, particularly for those with mobility challenges. Overall, while the location and charm are undeniable, the comfort and quality of the rooms — especially given the price — leave room for improvement.

Nice little group of hotels. Three different buildings with 8 rooms in each. Good sized rooms. Clean and neat. Comfortable. the breakfast was good and they have on site parking. They also have some grounds which would be nice to relax in in warmer weather than we had. The advantage of being just outside the walls of the city. 200 yards to Porto Elisa. Staff was plesant and helpfull. You are close to the walls which have been turned into a great walking park around the city. A place we will look at returning to if we get back to Lucca.

Excellent location. Just a few minutes walk to Lucca city centre. The room was fantastic. Nicest room we have stayed in during our Italian holiday. Private, safe parking. We had a lovely stay at Villa Lucrezia! The location is perfect, just outside the old city wall. The house is beautiful, there is a lovely terrace and private parking. Nice breakfast too, we would 100% recommend.

Worst three star hotel I have been to. Crummy bedroom with three seperated single beds (wall mounted tables between) instead of a double bed or two singles put together, as requested. The bedroom had dirty walls and hadn’t been cleaned very well (thick layer of dust on top of the tiny fridge). The only positive thing was the shower, which was good. Breakfast was bad and the coffee was cold. Please find another place to stay.

Having a motor cycle tour through Toscane we've decided to stay in the beautiful city Lucca and found the nice comfy hotel La Luna in the center of the town. The receptionists do speak English rather well and communication is very pleasant. The rooms are small having air conditioning and a separate bathroom. It is not a luxury hotel but for a few days it is a very nice stay. The hospitality is great and service is fine. Even a garage (did spent some extra money on that) was available to park my motorcycle in a safe place. A well provisioned nice breakfast was served. A good stay in a nice place! A remark however is that all electricity is shut down as soon the key-card is removed. this includes the minibar and airco..... a bit strange.

Avoid at all cost!!! Stayed here recently and our belongings and car were held to ransom unless we paid additional costs. It felt as we were being blackmailed. The manager was threatening, abusive and very very rude, although he may have some mental health issues as his behavior was very strange . We are now taking action, to prevent this happening again as this is unacceptable. The visit was very upsetting and stressful and was not what we were expecting and we did not feel safe. The rooms were of a poor standard and some of the pictures on the website are very misleading as not even of this hotel.(stairs) If you are looking to stay in this lovely city then please look at other hotels as we are not the first guests to get caught from what we have read. We could not leave fast enough.

The lady who rescued us after a difficult drive through the city was a delight. The suite we had was very comfortable. The recommendation made for a restaurant was superb and the general information given to us was extremely helpful. We both loved Lucca and the hotel’s location was very convenient. I recommend travelling to Lucca by public transport. The city is not car friendly!! Having said that the hotel provides a city permit for the car and has a garage which needs to be precooked. Parking in the garage is a little expensive but worth it. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The place enhanced our stay in a beautiful city.

We stayed for a night ahead of our flight back to Britain the next day. The room was nice and clean. In the morning we couldn’t get a taxi to Pisa airport, so Iacopo (I hope I’ve got the spelling right) came into work early to drive us all there. That’s a level of customer service you don’t get very often! Lovely guy and I hope to return to Lucca. Thank you

No problems with the rooms or service at all, except for only having one card. This limited being able to charge any devices while out but that's understandable (electricity would cost a fair bit). Only downside was the heaters and the Aircon not working. Safe worked perfectly, minibar in immaculate condition, and a beautiful reception and dining room / bar. 10/10 would choose to come here again if I visit Lucca in the future.

Everything was absolutely perfect! My girlfriend and I, as we were leaving Lucca, simply said to each other – we must write the best possible review, Max truly deserves it. From the very first contact, when he greeted us so warmly, to the room itself (which was even better than the one we had booked), the breakfast service, and all the effort he put into explaining what’s worth seeing in Lucca and what’s not… we were just more than satisfied. If we ever come back to Lucca – Max, siamo tuoi ospiti!

Cute place. Don't think we'd go back to Lucca but this B&B was a nice stay. The breakfast set up in the kitchen felt like visiting family.

It was okay. I would not go there again. The room itself was superb, it has everything you need in it. The house is not designed for being a hotel. The doors and all the walls are super thin, so you can hear everything. Also if you open up the window at night, you will not be able to experience silence, but a lot of traffic till the early morning. When we asked for reserving a table at a restaurant we just got a unfriendly:"it's closed". We were also asked to repark our car, even though it was perfectly parked inside the markings.
Franz-Albert B — Google review
For us, this place felt like a disapointment. The day before we arrived, we called ahead in order to confirm that we would arrive around 11 am. The lady on the phone mentioned that this was not a problem and that the room was ready. When we actually arrived, we were received by a lady who said that check-in was not possible until 3 pm and who was clearly annoyed. Not a good start. Which bothered us the most, however, was the noise in the bedroom. Noise from the refrigerator, noise from the air-conditioning system (it was too noisy with the AC switched on and too hot with the AC switched off), and also noise from the other guests. You could hear the footsteps and voices in the hallway as if the people were next to you, not to mention the noise caused by the pipes running through the walls. Apparently, soundproofing was not a priority when the building was renovated. As a result of the noise and the heat, sleeping turned out to be very difficult. A good night's sleep it certainly was not. Finally, the bed was too small for two persons in my opinion. I guess it was only 160 cm wide. Luckily, the breakfast proved to be well made and extensive. Even then, breakfast was made less enjoyable because one of the staff members stood just outside the breakfast room while smoking two cigarettes, bringing the smell of cigarettes into the breakfast room. All in all, the place felt outdated to us and lacked the modern comfort which can be expected from a B&B in this price range. Would not recommend. REPLY TO THE OWNER'S COMMENT: We would suggest that you sincerely take the feedback of your customers into consideration, instead of insulting them (more than a year after the fact).

5 minutes after making a reservation I noticed that I had made it for previous weekend and asked to change or cancel my booking. Villa Anna came back with "No!!!" as a reply. I didn't want to cancel the booking, I just wanted to change the date to the following week but it looks like they are being inflexible and unreasonable. I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. The hosts were very helpful. The room was very big and had a lovely bathroom. The room stayed cool through the night with aircon, the bed was super comfortable. It was very quiet in the area I slept super well. The breakfast was very tasty with foods from Lucca and Italy. It was 5 minute walk from train station but there was no noise from the train. I would 100% recommend staying at Albergo Moderno in Lucca !

Fabulous little hotel in a great location close to city walls and 5 minutes from the railway station for trains to Pisa and Florence. Very comfortable clean room, great value for money. Good simple breakfast and a very friendly helpful host. Would definitely use again when visiting Lucca or even Pisa.

Very nice hotel. Perfect location, just outside the city walls. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The most positive thing was the owner, who really contributed in our stay being comfortable and pleasant. He even prepared breakfast packages for us, although we left at 05.30 in the morning. Overall, a very positive experience.

Small hotel near the station but no rail noise at night that I heard. Be mindful though there is a rail overpass to cross to get there from the station so it can be challenging for somebody with heavy luggage or mobility issues as there is no lift. There is no lift in the hotel either but staff is willing to help. My single room was specious. Sheets and towels clean. Unfortunately the walls showed many scratches and dirt so it was a bit of turn off as a first impression. Although the room looked like on a picture advertised. Very small tv on a wall. Table lamp was broken but still working. Unfortunately, can't say the same about the aircon… It was a hot, summer day and when arrived was assured it was just put on and will cool down. Left it like this and went out. Returning back in a few hours my room still hot and showing 27-28 deg C. However, think it was more like 24-25. Still hot though. When reported the issue to reception I was only told the aircon was just put back on my return (?) and how to use it and not even attempting to check if I did it correct as I expected. Which suspect was the give away there is something wrong with it and they don't want to face it.  Temp hardly dropped throughout the night. And the only ventilation was the open window as no ceiling or standing fans were provided. There was also a bit of misty smell in the room. I guess due to the summer heat and no aircon. Bathroom seemed to be recently renovated.  Sink, bidet and toilet were clean. However, shower already shown visible signs of mould between the tiles. No tea or coffee facilities in the room. Breakfast was basic and not very appealing but in a quite nice indoor room with additional outdoor tables. Wifi was working ok but dropping a few times in the room. Overall it was an average experience. Staff was very nice and helpful though and highlight of my stay there.

Villa Pedone is a charming accommodation located just 8 km from Lucca. The villa offers traditionally furnished rooms with country views, free Wi-Fi, and air conditioning. Guests can enjoy the beautiful garden with a swimming pool. Visitors have praised the spacious and tastefully decorated rooms, delicious food served on-site, and the serene location in the hills outside of Lucca. The owner is known for being sweet and welcoming, making guests feel at home during their stay.
It was a fantastic experience for our family. The house was exactly as shown on the website, maybe more. We stayed there for a night but wish we could extend our stay. The design of villa is bursting with character and design, rooms are typical Tuscan Villa style . It's in a hilltop location with a beautiful garden and spectecular view. Only thing we didn't find great was breakfast, it could be better with more varieties.

We were looking for a romantic and quiet place for our family near Lucca, and this was the perfect choice! The location and the views are stunning. The rooms are clean and spacious, and the service is excellent. We had dinners outside while enjoying the beautiful landscape. Breakfast was included in the price, and dinner also available if you request it. I highly recommend this place for both couples and families.

A very pretty and quaint hotel set in the beautiful hills of Lucca. The venue is very picturesque and the service is excellent. Rooms are spacious with comfortable beds. The only thing I would recommend which was missing is just a bottle of water in the room. It’s a small thing but I think it’s a nice touch to have a bottle of a water when you arrive. The breakfast was a bit meager with prepackaged supermarket ham. Being in the ham capital of the world you should have a few slices of the local stuff, which is out of this world delicious, other than that tiny personal gripe the place is highly recommended!

We spent 3 nights here after Xmas. The rooms are spacious, warm and very comfortable. The whole villa is beautiful with sitting areas you can relax in and read a book. Breakfast is traditional Italian style and coffee and tea are available all day. There is even a bar with n honesty system - we did not use this. Villa Pedone is set in the hills just a short drive out of Lucca. The location is peaceful, pretty and serene. The host was friendly and offered useful advice on visiting Lucca and local restaurants.

Really enjoyed our stay there. A bit far from the city center but we were with a car so it wasn't a problem for us personally (there is a lot of free parking around the building). (Translated by Google) I stayed at the Giada residence for a few days with my children. Apartment A was really huge and very beautiful. The kitchen sink tap needs to be fixed because it has no mixer and limescale and is therefore not usable. Other than that, it was perfect. The swimming pool is usable and cleaned every morning. Presence of wifi with password indicated in the accommodation. The location is really convenient for visiting the city because it is about 1km walk from the walls, there are many supermarkets nearby (Eurospin, Lidl, Conad ...). If you want to travel by car you have to cross the level crossing but it is almost always open. Lucca is beautiful and you can use rickshaws (I don't know if it's written like that) to go around. The cost is around €8.5 for an hour. It was a great choice! Paid parking, dilapidated structure room with damp walls and paint falling off the walls, bathroom without the slightest presence of soap, wardrobe made with plastic cubes where I tried to hang my motorbike jacket collapsed. Furthermore, in practice in an abandoned hotel there is no one at the reception. While I was there some customers who were arriving had to call for someone to come and give them the booked room. Someone booked food through the usual methods here too no one. Whoever brought the food had to call to make sure the customer came down to open. Had a fantastic two week stay here, it's in a brilliant location, with stunning views, and the staff were really helpful, if seemingly overworked! Pool, gym, decent accomodation, and not too terribly priced. Would stay again. That all being said, your specific villa will vary, and prepare to be flexible - we had water and electric cut multiple times, including the A/C! One very important note, public transportation does not get you to Lucca, or to the villa itself, with only two buses a day to other villages. Your own car is a must to be able to explore the beautiful castles, towns, valleys and everything else this area of Tuscany offers, which isn't entirely clear on some of the websites prior to booking. The staff's response to these problems were what really saved the day, being more than happy to sort out a car, taxis, repairs, and any other problems we had whilst being polite and professional. Overall, I had a very memorable stay, and Guinigi was a great base for both exploration and relaxation, regardless of the problems we had.

What a lovely place to stay in Lucca! Rebecka, the manager, has a vision. Her hotels (Inside the Wall and Il Pozzo di Santa Zita) are beautiful, stylish and cosy. Neat, practical and well located. They are also sustainable and eco-friendly, without sacrificing comfort. Rebecka works as much as possible with local materials and products. She is a true hospitality professional, who knows perfectly how to welcome and treat her guests. She also provides valuable tips on places of interest and places to eat. These are by no means tourist traps, but really the better stuff. Rebecka also has a lot of people skills and is a very sweet, helpful and attentive lady with whom it is nice to talk. This hotel is a 16th-century building in the heart of Lucca, and offers en suite rooms with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a minibar, and a satellite flat-screen TV. It also has a buffet breakfast that is served until 11:00.
Great location inside Lucca walls, walking distance to train station, car rental, shops and restaurants. You can always take a taxi but we travel light and prefer to walk. Staff here are great and helpful, breakfast plentiful, and just a cool entrance on an active street, so noisy outside till around midnight after dinner hours. We stayed in the large room which was very spacious and comfortable.
Mr. B — Google review
The star of this show is Ingrid who was our host for two days as well as doing most of the work of caring for us. Her information on access to the hotel before we arrived, the notices she provided for us to display in our car, and the updates when things changed showed a person who is not only well organised but cares! The hotel is part of a very grand old town house accessed through a big heavy door. Then there are stairs to climb! This maybe an issue for people with limited mobility. Everything was very well cared for and clean. The room was a great size with a big bed and a number of chairs, a minibar and wardrobe space for our clobber. The bathroom had a Jacuzzi shower unit that required a degree in engineering to fathom out all it could offer, but it worked brilliantly. The room had unintrusive air-con. Breakfast was a buffet with Ingrid providing hot drinks to order and also baking cakes! (Told you she was a star!) We were provided with keys to the large door onto the street as well as a key to the hotel front door so could come and go as we pleased. There is also paid parking available. This is about 400m from the hotel on a separate street. The only small negative was noise intrusion especially from the street. I feel as much as could have been done to mitigate this had been done. The room had double glazing but with a narrow gap to fit the traditional frames of a very old building. There were also shutters which we discovered for the second night which helped further. Ear plugs have also been provided! But it is a busy street and is cleaned in the early hours of the morning on a daily basis at about 4 am even after the rain had done much of the work. Overall a great place and a most genial and caring host.

This was an old fancy palace right on the main shopping street. The layout is a little crazy, a giant wooden door, a courtyard, hall to a glass door, upstairs to the desk, better have a reservation! Down stairs through halls to a room right over the shopping street which can be noisy. The room is comfortable but amenities a little sparse, no way to make coffee in your room. Nice breakfast available. Nice and helpful staff.

Stayed a night to explore a new city. Booked on short notice after seeing the reviews. Location was very easy to enter the city center. The place is a family run operation and charming. There was one parking place for our vehicle on site. Front door is right on local street, so you must be careful exiting and watch for bikers that might clip you. Reception was business like, not super warm as I would expect. Felt kind of rushed out the next morning as well. Four stars for charming place and location. Maybe 3.5 for hospitality.

An absolutely wonderful place to stay while visiting Lucca. From the moment you arrive, you are in an oasis of calm and the welcome is so friendly. We stayed for 8 nights and would stay again. The house is beautiful and very interesting, and the hosts are gracious and make the stay perfect for all their guests. Breakfast is always outstanding, and every day there was a little surprise or a local specialty. It is quiet and relaxing to stay here. Seeing the garden in the morning under a perfectly blue Tuscan sky was inspirational. The rooms are spotlessly clean, and the beds are comfortable. The walk-in shower is excellent, and there was plenty of storage for a longer stay. The owners and their staff work well together to provide a wonderful experience. They have many tips to make the most of your visit to the area. This is why we love Italy and its people so much. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Francesco and Giovanna are so laid back when we first arrived I was hesitant that I chose the wrong place to stay. Little did I know that they are kind, sweet individuals. The rooms were large and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was outstanding complimented by perfect cappuccinos. The location is perfect if you’re traveling by train just two blocks from the station and a 5 minute walk to a tunnel entrance into beautiful historic Lucca. We did a two hour walking tour the guide met us at our B&B. The nightly Puccini live concert is a ten minute walk. Many amazing restaurants. We also rode the train for a day trip to Monterosso in Cinque Terre. Giovanna advises the train gets very crowded but it was fine in early May.

A family run B&B in Lucca. This place is just beautiful! It's an old house renovated by the couple into a 4 bedroom b&b that is just exquisite. The place has character and is decorated with old antique furniture restored into a château feel. I can honestly say that the mattress is the best one I've slept on( it's a hard mattress, maybe not for everyone). The rooms are quiet and in 3 nights that we stayed we didn't hear other guests even if the rooms are next to each other. There is a parking space in front of the house, a sun room for breakfast and a nice garden to relax. The breakfast is humble but excellent taste! Everything is very flavourful and freshly made. I would recommend this place always!

The B&B was fabulous! Painting, fresh flowers, graved furniture everywhere. They made the breakfast table with porcelains, fresh orange juice, baked specialities, egg, croissent and meat, as in a 5 star hotel. Our room was authentic with a lot of attention to details, for example bedding with brodery. Old style bed, very comfortable. The place has a style. It is clean, comfortable and excellent location. We felt special and recommend the place to everyone who likes the combination of beauty, history and comfort.

This place has a lot of potential and could do with a few improvements. For starters, there could be more than 3 hangers in the bedroom and a small piece of furniture for storing clothes would be welcome. As would a few bars in the bathroom outside the bedroom for drying towels. The shower was unfortunately lukewarm. The accommodation is very well located in the old historic centre and the staff are friendly. Our first two nights were restful, but I was woken up on the last night by other guests who noisily settled into their rooms at 12.30am and roamed the corridors for part of the night. You'll have better luck if the other guests are discreet and their check-in is not done after midnight! I thought it was a bit expensive for the quality of the rooms and the service.

We booked for 2 nights. Check in was awkward. Rooms are clean, furnishings are aged and sparse, but adequate. I reserved a room that was advertised with an in room bath. We were given a room without a bathroom. Claudio, a kind man, made the change for us. Several things in the shower and bath were broken. The bed and room were generally comfortable. The walls are thin. The feel is more hostel than hotel or B&B. When I travel alone I often use hostels to save money and enjoy them very much. However, when traveling with my GF, we prefer accommodations of a slightly higher standard. 2-3 star (European standard) are totally fine with us. For the price paid we expected accommodation similar in standard to what we have had for the previous 2 weeks of our tour. Hotel Sienna in Verona, B&B Hotel in Como, Best Western Hotel Regina Elena in Santa Margherita are examples of places we have stayed, priced within 5-10 euros of each other and what we paid for B&B Violleta. I'd be thrilled for 35- 40 Euros per night, But 75 euros is too much for this place. Look elsewhere.

Location's great, though from some rooms you can hear the neighboring restaurants til midnight which the owner can't do much about. My -1 star is for the poor check-in process: the owner told us to go to the train station and directed us to follow walls and signs and walk 5 minutes at 10 in the evening whereas we could've just driven to the location and parked (which we did afterwards as we couldn't see a thing in the dark), then infront of the main door, he told us to wait whilst he opened it remotely which happened after about 10 minutes of waiting and 2 calls back and forth. The key to the door inside the apartment wasn't too hard to find (for anyone searching, it's behind the Violetta sign) though the owner's directions as to where the keys were hidden, confused us quite a bit. Inside there is a shared cooking area and your room, for which you don't have a key to lock the door, so when leaving the room you have to take all valuables with you. The remote for the AC was poorly taped together and didn't work at all and the second bed for the room was quite hard on your back. Considering the location and price, you can't really complain much but at least some things could've been improved.

Nestled in the heart of Lucca, B&B Arena di Lucca offers an enchanting escape with its stunning views of the historic Roman arena. This charming accommodation features a blend of rustic decor and modern amenities, ensuring guests enjoy both comfort and style. The shared lounge is adorned with terra-cotta floors and oil paintings, creating a warm atmosphere to unwind after exploring the nearby ancient architecture.
Loved Loved Loved this B&B!! We stayed in a pretty and cozy room with a balcony overlooking Piazza dell Anfiteatro (Lucca's main square). Just perfect to walk around this gorgeous town, plenty of really nice shops and restaurants nearby. Check in was impeccable. Fortunately we had dropped the rented car 30 minutes before checking in. Narrow little streets can be tricky to navigate for us foreigners. Thanks Andrea!

I recently stayed at this charming Airbnb overlooking the Roman arena in Lucca, Tuscany, and it was an unforgettable experience. The location was absolutely perfect—just steps away from the historic site, allowing me to soak in the beauty of this ancient architecture right from my window. The apartment itself was cozy and well-appointed, featuring rustic decor that highlighted the building's history while providing all the modern amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The host was incredibly welcoming, offering great local tips and ensuring I had everything I needed. In the evening I enjoyed the views of the arena, which was beautifully lit at night. The vibrant atmosphere of Lucca, combined with the serene surroundings of the Airbnb, made for a perfect getaway. I highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to explore the rich history and stunning scenery of Tuscany!

We stayed at B&B Arena di Lucca for eights nights from April 20-29, 2019. We cannot imagine a better experience! The location is very central for easily walking to all the sights inside the wall. The hospitality provided by Alex and his staff was extremely good without being overly formal. We felt like part of the family! Our room was extremely comfortable. (Nice to take a break from TV.). We highly recommend this B&B. You won’t be disappointed.

Lovely place to stay, great room and host. Only thing which was just ok was you get 10 euro credit for breakfast in an ok cafe. Worth staying for the room though.

Perfect stay in the heart of Lucca! Plenty of restaurants just a few steps from the door! Can be a bit tricky to drive to the b&b for unloading the luggage, and you have to park for the night at Santa Maria square, just 5 min away by foot. We had a room with a small balcony towards thw square. This is a gem in Lucca, and we will definitly stay there again if we’re visiting Lucca again! Superclean room with a small refridgerator, nice comfortable bed.

Had a great stay here. Livia, who runs the b&b, is incredibly accommodating. Made great food and sight/seeing recos. And was careful to point us off the beaten track for the food bit. The bedroom was sweet, well-appointed and clean. French doors opened from the foot of our bed right onto the piazza. And then breakfast was a great -- lots to choose. And very accommodating of my gf's gluten free diet. Highly recommended.
Peter B — Google review
Elegant and modern B&B hidden down a meandering street in Lucca. Half of the B&B faces onto the famous Pizza dell'Anfiteatro - a square that dates back to a Roman amphitheatre. As well as some breathtaking views onto the square, B&B Arena appears to be built into the Roman walls themselves. Saying that the space had been renovated recently and includes high end modern bathrooms and bedrooms. The breakfast included excellent bread, cold cuts and artisanal jams. The proprietor was extremely professional, speaks multiple languages fluently and has local ancestry.
Robert H — Google review
Wonderful B&B in the centre of Lucca, overlooking the Anfiteatro. Newly renovated but with a rustic charm, an inimitable place. You can enjoy the life of the square either from the room balconies or the living room. No better location in town.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 6 lovely nights at Villa La Tuia. Monica and Manuela were exceptional hosts ... kind, warm, helpful and efficient. Inside and out, the property is absolutely incredible, restored to the highest quality in every detail. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful. Optimal location for easy access, spacious and secure parking, and short walking distance to all of Lucca's amazing sights. After living in Italy for 4 years and traveling extensively, Villa La Tuia is the absolute best B&B we have ever experienced!

It’s not just to keep 5/5 rating, we are amazed by the beautiful house, Monica and Manuela are wonderful hosts. The place has a fantastic location, just 2 minutes to the Lucca old town. The breakfast is delicious. So the time in Villa La Tuia was excellent.

Fantastic stay. Best place to stay in Lucca. 5 minute walk to be inside the walled city. Monica and Manuela are wonderful hosts. Service is top notch and rooms are great. Beautiful breakfast included outside in the garden. Stayed at several wonderful places in Lucca but this beats them all.

I've traveled the world and can say with confidence that this villa and its proprietors, Monica and Manuela, are exceptional. They welcomed us personally and warmly upon our arrival. They ushered us to a beautiful room that was incredibly clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. They incorporated an amazing breakfast into the stay - so fresh and full of variety. They went out of their way to help us navigate their city as first-time visitors, making wonderful recommendations and lining up friendly taxis for us. And they ended our time together with a thank you gift. Wow! This is THE place to stay in Lucca, and we can't wait to go back. If we could give this villa an 11 we would! Thank you Monica and Manuela for an unforgettable stay. :)

We had a very good time (6 nights) at Villa La Tuia! Manuela and Monica were very heartly and attentive hosts!!! The rooms were stylish, very clean and super comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and variable. We loved the town of Lucca, which was close to Villa La Tuia, there are many good dining locations and for the region typical shops. You can also visit a lot of different interesting places by car from this B&B. All in all Manuela and Monica made our stay at Lucca unforgettable. We wish them all the best!

This place does not need any further description… it is just like having a second home in Lucca, Tuscany. The restoration of the villa is done the right way, the floors are amazing, marble stairs, facade and all of the small details are perfect! If you want to go and eat, or to the beach, or whatever place you would like, you will get the best places from the two amazing ladies. Breakfast in the garden is amazing… basil and tomatoes from the garden near the table, pastry from the best places in Lucca, better than France! Free and secure parking in the yard, you are at maximum 2 minutes from the walled old town - Mura. You just can’t get better than this - parking, price, location, facilities. Thank you for the amazing stay, P E R F E C T ! Vlad T

I stained at Hotel La Tuia with my husband and my 3 years old son. We all loved it! The owners are two lovely, friendly and helpful ladies. The decor of the hotel and of the room is very elegant and tasteful. The room was spacious (massive bed!) and very clean. Plenty to chose from for breakfast, from fresh fruits to homemade cakes to scramble eggs, cheese and ham. Personally I loved the position. Just outside porta San Iacopo. Every morning before breakfast I went out for a run on Lucca’s wall! Quite area but one step from the busy Lucca! Highly recommend it!

LUCUS Exclusive Bed and Breakfast is a historic accommodation located in the heart of Lucca, offering free WiFi and a charming garden. The property provides serene inner courtyard and quiet street views, just 5 minutes away from St. Michael's Square. It features beautifully renovated old mansion with painted ceilings, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the Renaissance era. The B&B offers elegantly designed rooms with a housekeeping service and a shared lounge for guests to relax in.
Lucca is a very good choice if you want to experience the Italian way of life, the smell of morning espresso coffee, the flavours and atmosphere of delicious lunches and dinners. The best choice is Lucus Exclusive Bed and Breakfast. I found their website by chance and booked directly. Booking is quick and easy, payment by credit card is secure and also fast. Confirmation came immediately and from then on we were taken care of from start to finish. All questions were answered almost immediately, which was very reassuring. Although parking is not available next to the accommodation, all options were offered via email and Whatsapp just in case. We left the car in one of the public but guarded spaces, the price of parking all day was reasonable, the price of an Aperol Spritz. The accommodation is amazing, it includes a huge garden within the city walls. It's worth sitting outside in the evening and reading for a while, it's calming. The rooms are spacious, air conditioned, clean, quiet. The bed linen is fresh and crisp, we slept very well after a tiring full day of hiking and walking. The reception ladies are nice, helpful, their recommendations (meals, sightseeing, etc.) are worth considering and trying. It was a very good decision to stay here, unfortunately we could only stay 4 days.

We had a very great time 3 nights in May. This bed and breakfast is more like a small boutique hotel. It is run by around five woman who are doing a great job. They assist you in any kind of way whatever you need. The breakfast is brilliant. We were sitting in a small garden in the sun and having a fresh orange juice or a delicious prepared scrambled eggs with whatever we like inside. The rooms are very modern. They have brand new windows which cut out totally all noise. We had never been slept so quiet in a place directly downtown. Also the bathrooms are equipped all kind of needed material. We had a small kitchen and a mini bar With some drinks inside. The area is directly downtown. But once you are in, it is totally quiet. And you have a fantastic small garden. It is hard to find any places in Lucca which are not so old. Over here everything is new and very clean. And you can feel that there is a lot of love from older women who run this very nice bed-and-breakfast.

This is a bed and breakfast, however , they can do bottles of wine in the garden in the afternoon. They can do aperol spritzer in the afternoon. They don't do room service, there's no bar. It is what it says on the tin.....Boutique Bed and Breakfast. The staff , from reception, the breakfast room and the housekeeping staff , are patient, very helpful and very knowledgeable about their city. Its a great place to base yourself.

We took over the entirety of the hotel for five days for family and friends on the occasion of a wedding in Lucca. What a great formula! The rooms were impeccable, and the charming garden was a perfect meeting spot for us before heading out for sightseeing and wedding festivities. It truly felt like our private house in Lucca! Serena and Alexia made us feel absolutely at home; they knew every member of our party and they spared no effort to make our time there a success. I highly recommend this lovely hotel!

This luxury B&B is nice tucked away in a side street 5 min away from St. Michael's Square. I think if you want a peaceful retreat this is a great spot. Its an old mansion completely renovated. Still bas the old charm with beautiful painted ceilings and little bits of pieces around the building that remind you fo the renaissance. Personally our room was not so great not because it was shabby the issue was that was right next to reception. So it felt that we had no privacy. I would say avoid room 1 and 4 if you can . The room as small even if beautiful. But yes get another room except those 2.

A little gem. Serina could not be more helpful. Lovely little courtyards and small but elegantly designed rooms of the type expected at the top end of an Italian city apartment.

Situated in Lucca, just a short distance from San Martino cathedral, N°15 Santori Luxury Home is a well-established hotel that offers elegantly furnished rooms. The establishment boasts high ceilings and frescoes in some of its polished accommodations. Housed within an ancient Roman structure, the hotel tastefully combines elements of the past with modern touches such as exposed brick and beams, neon orange chandeliers, and Modernist armchairs.
This is in Lucca. Very homely, friendly staff, comfortable room and centrally located. It's not your usual decorated hotel suit. However was very comfortable. The views from the room was not the best, but cross breeze through the windows allowed us minimum use of the air condition. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Santori Luxury Home. It also poses as an antique store. All the furniture and items on display are for sale. We were very comfortable and felt very safe and secure. Staff were very obliging with booking restaurants for dinners, and taxi to take us to the station on our last day. Will definitely stay there again.

This beautiful residence surrounded by greenery is perfect for a relaxing holiday. The self catering apartments come with all the necessary amenities, including free WiFi and a dishwasher. There's also a private patio and outdoor pool.
If we could give more than 5 stars we would. We have just returned from our second stay in two years at Al Foionco, and we look forward to a third visit some time in the future. This is truly a place that is good for your soul. Alma and Marco are wonderful hosts - great conversationalists and happy to help with whatever you need, including tips about local places to visit, dine, shop etc. The well-appointed kitchen meant that we could enjoy breakfast and dinner on the terrace enjoying fresh local produce, basil from the garden and a bottle of local chianti. The ambience at Al Foionco, with goat bells ringing in the nearby field and church bells striking the hour in the nearby village is stunning. The surrounding scenery is typically Tuscan: pencil pines, lavender, forest and hills. Al Foionco was recommended to us by a friend who had stayed there several times whilst living in the UK, and we will be forever grateful for that recommendation.
Jen W — Google review
From the moment we arrived, it felt like coming home. Carlo and Mareille from Al Foionco put genuine care into making us feel at ease, while preserving the unique charm that defines Al Foionco: peace, beautiful nature, and a sense of simplicity. When we arrived late, they proactively offered us a different apartment that was more suitable for our one-year-old baby. They gave us excellent food recommendations and even contacted a local restaurant on our behalf to help us place our order. You can truly sense how much care and attention they’ve put into the place. There are beautiful personal touches everywhere. From the owner’s own paintings (she’s incredibly talented) to the carefully chosen plants and trees that make the surroundings feel vibrant and peaceful. The swimming pool was also a real highlight: spacious, spotless, and a perfect spot to relax while taking in the views. One evening, they took us outside to show us the fireflies – something I had never seen before. It was absolutely breathtaking and unforgettable. Al Foionco was without a doubt the highlight of our holiday. We will definitely come back. Thank you again!

(Translated by Google) We stayed here 4 nights over the August bank holiday weekend. Location located on the hills 12 minutes from the center of Lucca, very private, quiet and surrounded by nature. Absolute silence both day and night. Our apartment was on the ground floor and consisted of a kitchen, living room, bathroom, corridor and double bedroom. The slightly outdated furnishings need to be revised a bit, also due to the TV and seating area, the location is very uncomfortable. For the rest it is equipped with a nice kitchen, excellent cleanliness and large bedroom. The thick walls of the cottage keep the temperature of the apartment cool without the use of air conditioning. Recommended for those who want to visit Lucca and its surroundings, excellent value for money.

We stayed in the Carmen apartment, which is located on the first floor via a staircase. It features a spacious living room, a well-equipped kitchenette, a nice bathroom, and a bedroom with a comfortable bed. Two more beds are available on the second floor, accessible via a narrow spiral staircase. Several other apartments are also available, sleeping 2 to 6 people. There are plenty of things to do in the surrounding area, but a day at the pool is also very enjoyable. The hosts, both of Dutch descent, are very friendly and do their utmost to ensure you have a pleasant stay. They also speak several other languages. (Original) Wat een rust! (Translated by Google) We absolutely enjoyed our stay and can absolutely recommend the holiday apartment(s). The location is perfect for countless excursions. And quiet enough to simply switch off and enjoy your time out. We had a FW that was accessible via an outside staircase. The size and facilities were (almost) perfect and optimal for us. We only missed an oven and toaster... But that's not really relevant and we're whining at a high level here. By the way, every window had fly protection... We really liked that. We enjoyed using the outdoor area with its many seating options often. Especially in the evenings... and we saw an incredible number of fireflies in the hedges... That was beautiful. The pool is great... Very large, clean and there are plenty of opportunities to lie or sit in the sun or shade. There is also a parking space, it is located below the house or property and can be reached via stairs. But you can drive onto the property for loading and unloading. We would like to thank Alma (host) again... She welcomed us very warmly and explained and showed us everything in detail. In addition, we were provided with useful information. (Reservation for restaurant, parking in Florence) So be sure to rent a holiday apartment at Residence al Foionco... you'll be thrilled too.
