Heard to check this place out by a local who said the food is cheap, tasty and beautiful scenery as it’s under the wall. We came here with some friends we made at a winery and we were all satisfied! Portions couldn’t bigger, but the flavours were good and it was nice. The service was a bit slow, but that’s ok since it was busy. Nothing to really rave about, but we weren’t disappointed.
When we came for lunch all the tables on the terrace were taken. So we were offered a table inside, our waitress Sarah was effervescent and happy to serve, and suggested daily specials. The service was very good. The noise was a bit distracting (a few crying babies), but we could still talk (4 🌟 for atmosphere).

Have to say, really good restaurant with depth in flavor. I ordered the Tortelli al Ragu, the Cotoletta Lucca style (with tomatoes and Capperi) and a Creme Brulee. Honestly very impressed by the flavor and quality of the dishes, Complimenti!
This restaurant is packed with people indoors and outside we were there Saturday night (of course). Foods are phenomenal I ordered the veal its quite salty from the green olive but yummy, hubby ordered the cod we loved it. The night dinner closed with Tiramisu thank you for not making it very sweet. Good quality food!!!
This treasure was recommended by a friend who knows Lucca very well. It was a fabulous choice. We were able to request a table outside in this novel setting. Lovely service, delicious food and house wine. Try it!!

Just steps from Via Fillungo, Trattoria Da Leo offers a genuine Tuscan experience with traditional dishes and a welcoming atmosphere. Open year-round and family-run since 1946 or 1949 (?) the trattoria is known for its home-style cooking, including classics like Zuppa di Farro and Tortelli Casalinghi. Friendly staff, fair prices, and a warm setting make it a great spot to enjoy local cuisine in the center of Lucca. The food was great, but could have been a bit warmer.
If the clientelle are local and range from young families to elderly couples, you know you are eating in a well loved restaurant. This was the case when we ate at the da Leo .
Reminded me of the family run Les Routies of France. Good tasty regional food , well prepared, and generous portions .
We were not disappointed.
The entree was a mixture of hams,cheese, and olives .Fresh and ample for 2 people.
This was followed by spinach Ravioli with a beautiful homemade pumpkin sauce. My wife chose the pasta with rabbit and olives, again made from fresh ingredients and certainly meaty.
Had ordered the ribs and potatoes after seeing the neighbouring tables meal, but at this point, I was full so the waiter kindly cancelled the order.
A tiramisu was the crowning glory to the meal. My wife commented that it was the best she had eaten all week
We had the house red and white, which again was most acceptable .
The waiter spoke perfect English, and the menu came in both languages, which helped the tourist who were there that evening.
Go there or you will miss the chance to eat like a Tuscan does.

Very bad experience. Food below average, meat dry, overcooked. Veal was hard as a rock. Waiter and waitress unfriendly. In the end, he "accidentally" overcharged us. I definitely do not recommend it. They do not deserve the ratings they have online.

A friendly, affordable, and delicious trattoria! The staff is wonderful and the food is excellent. The menu changes occasionally which allows for pleasant variety if you come regularly. Lucchese and Tuscan delicacies on offer.
For those concerned about summer heat, they have air-conditioned indoor seating. The outdoor seating is lovely as well. The restaurant is great for those with children as they have toys and entertainment on hand to keep the kids occupied.

Freshly made pasta, carefully sourced meat, and seasonal vegetables are staples here.
If you’re looking for an upscale traditional Italian restaurant, this place is it. The atmosphere is beautiful, warm and inviting. I had the pumpkin ravioli and the eggplant parmigiana, both were the best I’ve ever had. Definitely recommend making reservations. This was one of my favorite meals of our stay.

In one word—WOW! We stayed in Lucca center and drove 20 minutes to reach the restaurant, set in a beautiful landscape. The restaurant was full of locals, which says a lot. We enjoyed the delicious Bistecca Fiorentina and drank the house wine made by the restaurant owner. The food was perfect, and so was the service. We will definitely come back again!
The best meal during our few days in Lucca’a area. Traditional dishes, well executed, the freshest ingredients and a very nice atmosphere and service.
I guess it's not gourmet, but the bib gourmand is very well deserved. They serve traditional food, but very delicious, almost perfect and with love. The Red Wine by the owner is amazing. The staff is super friendly. The flair is kinda eleganr And the prices are more than fair.
If you are anywhere near Lucca this is a must.
We recently lunchedat this charming restaurant and was thoroughly impressed by the service, which was both good and exceptionally friendly. The 'senatore capelli' spaghetti, while having a very strong cheese flavor, is definitely for those who appreciate a bold taste. The homemade tordelli was delightful, with a well-balanced flavor that left a lasting impression.
A standout dish was the tagliata di manzo, which I highly recommend. It was perfectly seasoned with oil, pepper, and a hint of rosemary, making it a must-try for anyone visiting. Overall, a wonderful dining experience with a few standout dishes that cater to different palates.
Phenomenal dinner the food was great you can taste the love they put into there dishes , staff was great never rushing you helping you with picking out something. And the place made you feel at home. If your in the area you must try.
This was our best meal during our week in Tuscany - exceptional food, excellent value for money for the quality, we found it via the Michelin guide but it feels a step above the usual non-starred entries, with touches such as mixing their carbonara in a wheel of cheese at the table. Also a very good and reasonable wine list - we had a lovely bottle for €22.
Absolutely delicious ! The pasta were insane, the meat delicious and the deserts were also perfect. I recommend if you want a nice lunch or dinner. Prices are also great for the good food quality !

It's hard to describe. I had a pulled pork panini with a delicious sauce and well-seasoned BBQ pulled pork. The other food was great, too! The espresso was great, too!
You have to eat here when you're in Lucca!

Walked past here so many times on our stays in Lucca. Not sure why we left it so long. Popped in for lunch. Delicious sandwich. Will return for a salad (which looked delicious) if we come back to Lucca.

Great spot for tasty paninis, nice outdoor seating and pleasant service. Martina is the best! We enjoyed the Mortadella, gorgonzola dolce, arugula, tomatoes panini and the Porchetta, taleggio, sun-dried tomatoes, arugula panini. Our sandwiches paired well with the Vermentino. They also offered a nice espresso. This restaurant was the perfect first meal upon arriving in Lucca after a long journey. The sandwiches are large, so it is possible to share depending on how hungry you are.
We had such a good experience that we came back the a few more times during our stay in Lucca. We shared the QUELLA AL POLLO (Mixed salad, CBT chicken, cherry tomatoes, celery, steamed onion, boiled potatoes, Taggiasca olives, 24-month-old parmesan cheese, sweet and sour sauce (mustard-based)); the CROSTONE MORTAZZA (Toasted bread, mortadella, stracciatella, pistachio cream and toasted pistachio

Cantabrian anchovies; and Caprese platter. The Crostini hit the spot. The mortadella was perfectly thinly sliced, bread, so tasty. The anchovies with butter on toast was delicious. The chicken salad was bland with very dry chicken and tasteless tomatoes, but the olives were tasty. But other than that, we had a great time!

If you find a small gathering of people waiting to be seated at lunch, it's worth joining the queue. I don't think I've had a better lunchtime sandwich anywhere. Recommend the pastrami, roast beef paninis made with their perfectly crisp bread, and also their beef tartare. Drinks are good too.

Great super thin crust pizza. All with the same margherita base but with option to add salami, salami picante, etc. got the salami picante and loved it. They cut a chunk of pizza for you and weigh it to determine cost. Great option for quick meal or snack.

Pizzeria Da Felice was highly recommend by the host of our apartment, having read the reviews I was a little worried that we wouldn't be welcome as tourists however please ignore the reviews! Nice and simple pizzas. Had a whole margherita and a salami mozzarella focaccia for a total of 15.5euros.
She politely asked that they prefer cash, unfortunately I didn't have any so paid with card. No idea if I got charged extra or not though.
Delicious, quick lunch at an excellent price (15 euro for two of us, including sodas!) Loved that you could add any toppings to the focaccia and the pizza, and the cechina was great too. Staff very helpful.

What a great experience, what a quaint fun, vibey restaurant with really nice genuine food. We ordered the pasta with ricotta and spinach that was incredible, the beef that was okay (not the fiorentine steak but the version on the english menu was not that good) and the orange cake. ORDER THE ORANGE CAKE OH MY GODD. i will be dreaming about the orange cake for centuries to come. A gigantic glass of the house wine which is very nice was 3€, the focaccia brought to the table was awesome. The service was really friendly. All in all a super great experience

Very touristic, but food was still really good. You will find many options of the typical Lucchese and Tuscan dishes. However, service was so so, there seemed to be some drama among staff and owner / manager which affected the way we were served. The space isn’t super cozy either as it seems to be optimized for bigger groups and tourists.
The food is simple and delicious with the freshest and highest quality ingredients. A few blocks from the tourist part of town and you’re in a very Italian place and frame of mind. The staff are friendly and have good recommendations. I hope to return again some day.
The only redeeming qualities were the wine and the selection of cured meats. We were seated outside, and the service was abysmal: 25 minutes just to take our order, another 30 minutes to serve the starter, and an additional 15 minutes for the main course. The main course was an absolute disaster. I ordered the pork loin, which was supposed to be crusted, but the crust was as hard as a brick. We were left with our finished plates for ages, and after chasing the waiter for another 30 minutes, we were finally able to pay and leave. This was, without a doubt, the worst meal we’ve had in Italy (and this is our 13th day here).

The food was incredible. I had nettle and ricotta crepes for mains and cheesecake for dessert.
My partner had the local cheese gnocchi then the orange and chocolate cake for dessert.
The portions were spot on. Not huge but not stingy. Just right.
Although the restaurant inside looked inviting, we were sat out the back in the courtyard which was beautifully lit and magical in every way.
Highly recommend this place.

The homemade gnocchi with tomato, basil, and buffalo mozzarella was a revelation. Each bite was like a warm embrace, the gnocchi's delicate texture paired exquisitely with the rich sauce.
The tortellini au gratin, boasting a hearty Bolognese ragu and creamy besciamella sauce, was similarly impressive. Meanwhile, the roast beef of melino, served with a refreshing salad of potatoes and parsley, was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful.
Vegetarian options shine as well; the grilled eggplant millefeuille with carasau bread, feta cheese, and mint was an intriguing blend of textures and tastes that delighted the palate.
Their desserts are another story altogether. The Panna "poco" cotta, adorned with fragole al balsamico, was creamy yet light, the balsamic strawberries providing a tangy counterpoint. The Sorbetti di frutta fresca di nostra produzione secondo mercato was the perfect palate cleanser, with its refreshing and vibrant fruit flavors.
The meal culminated with an exquisite cappuccino. Perfectly balanced, the bitter notes of the coffee harmoniously blend with the sweetness of the frothed milk, serving as the ideal full stop to a gastronomic journey.

We're quite picky when it comes to a good cuisine. I'm soo glad that the Google reviews helped us pick a place to eat. I didn't mind staying inside as we didn't book a table on a fairly small terrace. Interior has a nice upper class artsy vibe to it. Service is always a big part of a culinary experience. Each and every person who served us tonight was a professional - friendly attitude and ability to advise. The quality of food served was on a high level. Typical Tuscan rabbit cake, pasta with ragu and also wine. Everything did just simply fit...Hence I'm taking the time to post a review. Thanks to the whole team, we enjoyed every bit of this evening!

The Crusted Artichoke was a bit too mushy throughout, although the rabbit pie was pretty good.
For mains, we had the fried sea food and the leek tart.
The leek tart was good for the first 2 bites, but it was so sweet and overwhelming we simply couldn't continue eating it. The fried sea food was very similar - everything, including the veg, was covered in batter and there was no flavour variation. You were being hit with the same strong and overwhelming flavours on repeat. The problem with both dishes is they had nothing to balance them, no sides of any sort - we thought we may have ordered incorrectly (and missed ordering sides) but both dishes were recommended by the staff as-is.
The restaurant itself created a very nice ambiance and the staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. It's a real shame the food was such a let down.

The staff is very professional, the atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and the service very efficient.
It's a little expensive in comparison to some other options in the area, but it is an absolutely amazing dining experience! If you are slightly interested in having dinner here I would suggest making reservations as soon as possible as it seems to be a very desirable restaurant.
My boyfriend and I spent over one week in Italy, and this was one of our top favorite restaurants. The bolognese was incredible, and the pasta with marinated sea bass was so unique and spectacular. Our waitress Francesca was very sweet and welcoming. We loved Lucca and we will come back here the next time we visit!
Immaculate service in a gorgeous setting in the city. There were free refreshing drinks and a "mouth amuser" included, our kids loved the drink. The food was perfectly cooked and the menu imaginative with creative, modern twists on the classics. Highly recommended, it wasn't too pricey either.

Absolutely loved the pizzas here. Have lived in Italy for 8 years and locally I think this has been the tastiest pizza I've eaten. The amount of flavour in the Neapolitan dough is incredible.
As amazing as the pizzas were, the staff were just as incredible. Very friendly, very efficient, and ever so helpful.
Will definitely go back for more, and have already recommended this restaurant to about 8 people.

This is in my opinion the best pizza in Lucca. Good and fluffy crust, many choices of pizza toppings. A little outside the city center but well worth the walk, and the restaurant was full of Italians. That is a sign of quality. Recommended and worth the trip outside the walls.
Best pizza we’ve had. Drooling thinking about it. The crust is fluffy, the sauce is incredible. We had the Donaisabella and a Calaisabella and let me tell you -out of this WORLD-
Delicious! We went to eat at Funiculi with my family (the French family) and were able to taste the BEST pizzas in Italy. Thanks to the whole team for their service and kindness. We'll be back with great pleasure as soon as possible. Go without hesitation!
A cozy, cute and mainly visited by Italians pizza place that serve amazing pizzas and even better fried antipasti pizza/or “bites“.
We had some great Fritos as starters/antipasti and a mixed salad/insalata mista. Important to note is that the salad comes with a focaccia. When you order and estimate the food amount you should take that into consideration.
You have a ton of pizza choices and all possibilities sound great. All pizzas we had tasted great. We also made some substitutions which was easily doable.
The service is great, they even speak English while keeping the Italian flair.

The best pizza I’ve ever had! The place has a very cozy atmosphere, amazingly friendly staff and a great location being not in the walled city with plenty parking spots. We went there multiple times because it was just that good.
The food was good and served Very quickly. The ambiance was also good, but bit crowded so it's really recorded to book early.

Amazing pizzeria in Lucca. We stopped in for a late night bite to eat and it was still busy! They had a table inside for us and the service was great. Pizzas were out of this world
Authentic, neopolitan pizza here that is a crust above the rest. Menu says it's made using 24-48 hr biga ferment and the resulting crust is spot on. Menu options are numerous but each of the pizzas we had were delicious!

My husband and I were drooling when we saw the beautiful pizzas as we strolled by and couldn’t wait to dine here ourselves. Today we were able to have a pleasant lunch and ordered a salsiccia e friarielli pizza and a mortazza, plus a beer and a glass of house white wine. The pizza was the star of the show, truly spectacular. Both pizzas have the chewy, salty crust (not too salty—just right!) that you can only find in Italy. The Mortazza was our favorite. We are not accustomed to finishing a whole pizza each, but we did our best. I noticed other patrons enjoying aperol spritzes, so I asked for one as well and gave my wine to my husband. Everything had been great to that point. What was a bit disappointing however, was not long after my spritz was brought out—I’d taken maybe two sips—the waitress asked me if I wanted a coffee or digestive. I pointed to my drink and smiled, telling her I was just starting on my drink. A few minutes later, she came out and asked me if I was still working on my pizza—and honestly I wasn’t sure, I was just enjoying the atmosphere with my husband and nibbling the pizza. Again, my drink was still half full at that time, so clearly I wasn’t ready to leave. I had the impression she wanted us to hurry up and leave the table. Usually the customer has to ask for additional service or for the check in Italy, don’t they? So, full marks for the food and atmosphere, and one star off for staff pressuring clients to get out, which spoiled our visit to this otherwise stellar pizzeria.
An absolute gem of a place! Fantastic food! Fantastic wine! A stunning location! I sympathize with the staff who have to deal with tourists who don’t pay attention to the rules. I only wished the establishment had explained how to pay at the beginning of the meal, my wife and I had no issue. You need your table number and you pay at the cashier FYI

My family and I adored this little find. We were right at the witching hour (230pm) when we asked if the kitchen was open (after three knock backs) and they were more than welcoming. There is a small outdoor terrace but we ate inside. Classically italian / european interior - tasteful with nothing over the tip. We had a two antipasti (local salumi) and the ceccina and baccala. Then the roasted tuscan chicken and tagliatelle with porcini. My sone had a plate of perfectly cooked spaghetti in ragu (he loved it). Some local red wine and prosecco to start. More than perfect service and All for 100 euros.

Favorite restaurant so far in Lucca! Located inside the walls, around the corner from Hotel Ilaria, the food, service and ambience were all great. Loved the chicken with melt in your mouth roasted potatoes and the branzino. The pear, walnut and Parm salad with a drizzle of honey was the best we've ever eaten! We are sure to return this week! This was the best dinner we had during our stay in Lucca. The food was excellent and they had a great selection of wonderful wines, a lot of them local to the region. We sat outside, which was lovely. It seemed to take them a little while to warm up to us, but the service was quite quick and attentive. Make sure to make a reservation!

We were looking for lunch whilst exploring the city and this stood out among other restaurants at the piazza. We had the 5-course tasting menu for lunch, where the chef selected dishes from the à la carte menu. The staff carefully asked about our allergies and intolerances beforehand to ensure everything was suitable, and each dish was thoughtfully explained when served. The chef, originally from Lucca, has experience working in a Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris before returning here — and it shows. Every dish was perfectly balanced and beautifully executed, completely in tune with our palate. The entire experience was lovely from start to finish and most of all, reasonably priced.

Lovely location looking into the piazza. Excellent service from our waiter and his support team. Excellent wine list with a great recommendation from our waiter - a local red that was smooth and very fruit forward - Valle Bula from Fattoria Sardi. We started with the appetizer Tartare di Manzo - it was outstanding, If not the best I've ever had! All of the meals were excellent but my Maiale Grigio was the stand out of the day! We didn't get to dessert as we were full and had a train to catch. Definitely recommend!

The staff are absolutely lovely. I really really cannot thank them enough. After I finished my dinner, out of nowhere, I suddenly fell ill. I had been feeling under the weather before I came, and it all just hit me at once.
Anyways, they made sure that I got to a toilet ok so I could clean myself up and before I left, made sure that I felt a better before I headed back to my hotel. I cannot thank them enough for making what was a really embarrassing, scary time for me less scary and less embarrassing. They're genuinely good people with hearts of gold, who care about you as a customer and as a person, and want you to have the best dining experience at their restaurant, and most importantly - they're human.
As everything happened so quickly, I unfortunately was unable to tip. The very least I can do now is sing their praises, leave a glowing review and very strongly recommend you give these guys business! It'll be the best meal you have in Lucca! :)

Oh my gosh. The food was divine. All courses. Hand made pasta. Fantastic tastes. Great wine. And oh my god the Panna Cotta with the pistachio sauce. This is the best Panna Cotta we have ever had. If you are in Lucca or even nearby for example in Pisa, this place alone is worth a detour to Lucca old town. And the service last was very lovely. Very attentive, very charming and helpful with selection. 11/10 place
What an absolute gem. We came across this restaurant by chance while looking for shelter from the rain during lunch time.
Staff was very friendly and helpful and we were served almost immediately. The range of pasta dishes was excellent and especially the wild boar ragu was outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and hope to return one day when we’re in Lucca again.
We came here before a concert without a reservation — and as you can imagine, the city was absolutely packed. Our chances of scoring a coveted terrace table seemed pretty low. While we waited in line, we watched in awe as beautifully prepared dishes were brought out to tables, each one delivered with genuine care by the waitstaff.
Within 10 minutes, it became clear that this was a true family-run restaurant — you could feel it in the seamless teamwork, the joyful energy, and the playful jokes exchanged between the staff. There was something special in the air.
Finally, we were seated — and every dish, every glass of wine recommended by the knowledgeable and warm-hearted waitress, was a masterpiece. We’ve been traveling around Italy for a few weeks, but this carbonara (and I consider myself a true fan!) absolutely blew me away. A true work of art!
It’s hard to fully express the joy and appreciation we feel for this cozy, family-run gem. Thank you for your hard work, your warmth, and the unforgettable experience you gave us.

Osteria San Giorgio is a charming Tuscan-style restaurant located on Via San Giorgio in Lucca. The rustic space features brick arches and a shady courtyard, creating a cozy and authentic atmosphere. The outdoor space is beautiful. We sat indoors with the AC and were happy for it. The decor is a bit hodge lodge, and I wouldn’t recommend the place based on the inside ambience- BUT- who cares? It was a good temperature, not too noisy, and both the service and the food were great. I would recommend any go. And great value for the money. My family of four loved everything we got (except the house red wine- next time, we’ll just buy a bottle). The mixed antipasti- so good! The stuffed pasta in a ragu- we had to order a second- the simple grilled steak- tender and flavourful. The contient- spinach and potatoes- yep, perfect. The chicken? Exceeded our expectations. We were too full for dessert but I bet they’re all authentic and tasty and not too heavy, either. (Oh, one last thing, the olive oil they brought to the table was also very good quality and so tasty)

Service - incredible. Food - amazing. Several unique dishes that we have not tasted before - across all 20 days or so around Italy over the last two trips. Go with the recommendations, the menu is difficult to read but the suggestions are spot on.
Don’t skip desserts - specially the complex ice cream / peach filling / sponge cake on top, and the one they referred to as Ferraro Rocher but is immensely more flavorful.

Recommended for couple of friends to have fun, drink. It wasn't good choice for me sadly. But service is fast and very attentive.

Food and service was amazing, lots am of personality, great energy and very entertaining within the eclectic cockville. I would be a regular if we lived here. We loved Trattoria da Nonna Clara so much on our first visit that we ended up going back three times during our stay in Lucca — it’s that good!
From the moment you walk in, the warm, welcoming atmosphere sets the tone. The staff are absolutely lovely, and the chef clearly knows their craft — everything we tried was full of flavour and beautifully presented. It’s a truly authentic spot, tucked away in a fantastic location with the choice of cosy indoor seating or a charming outdoor area that’s perfect for soaking up the Lucca vibe.
The drinks menu is excellent too — I have to give a special mention to their Hugo Spritz, which was honestly one of the best I’ve had anywhere.
Food-wise, the 500g steak is an absolute must — cooked to perfection — and the stuffed zucchini flowers were delicious and delicate. Every meal felt like a treat.

Loved this place! Proper hearty Tuscan food done really well. We had a big meat and cheese board to start — loads of cured meats, a nice variety of cheese, and some pickled veg in the middle which cut through it all nicely. The chestnut pasta with sausage and mushrooms was rich and earthy, super comforting. I had the porchetta with roast potatoes — crispy, juicy, and full of flavour. The wild boar stew was incredible too, really tender and served with creamy polenta. Everything felt super rustic and homemade. This was our second visit in a week!
Beautifully located off the razzle-dazzle around the Anfiteatro. We asked for a table for two in the shade and the amiable staff swiftly arranged a table for us although they had their hands full — the restaurant really was buzzing!

I've just discovered this Ice cream Parlour just off the ancient walls of Lucca, delicious artisan made icecreams with toppings of all kinds, from the classic M&Ms to nurses and granola to delicious fresh fruit. Try the frozen yogurt, it's one of the best I've had.
I don’t recommend for children. The gelati was fine, but they have a display of many toppings and refused to give our children sprinkles, saying there ‘wasn’t enough room’ even when we asked in advance before the next order. I asked what do you put the toppings on if not ice cream? She said ‘nothing’. Okay…

Veneta serves three slightly smaller than average scoops (but represents better value than the normal sized two scoops offered elsewhere). Great if you want to try three different flavours… or just triple up on your favourite!!

Being residents of Lucca, we can say that without a doubt this is an amazing upper end restaurant and do not expect pizza. The service, quality of cuisine and price ratio are excellent. Highly recommend in every way possible. Wonderful dishes included acciughe fritte, polpo, patate, burrata e pomodorino confit, tagliata di manzo con insalata di stagione and artichoke.
outstanding food, good vegetarian options, excellent curated wine list. visited May 2025. my beef diaphragm was excellent; marinated for hours, it was cooked perfectly and nicely seasoned. the pasta dishes were freshly made and also high quality. our table had a view of "the pass" and it was nice to watch the chef inspect the meals prior to departing the kitchen, lots of attention to detail. the staff are multi-lingual with at least italian, english and german spoken very well; reservations are highly suggested. We waited a long time to try this restaurant and it didn't live up to expectations. We ordered the scallop and steak florentine; they told us it was plenty of food but we left hungry. The scallop appetizer was small and uninspired. The steak was tasty and fresh. The wine from Montecarlo was good. The sides weren't great; the salad had no sauce and was just hard bits of the lettuce, and the stir-fried veggies were unimpressive. (They also brought us the salad when we didn't order it.) The service was subpar; they didn't seem to want to serve us and we waited over an hour for the food.

We were very happy to have avoided the tourist traps in Piazza Anfiteatro and found this really good pizzeria. They have an outdoor seating area which while not the most charming was nice to sit in when the weather was good. We didn’t have a reservation, but as we arrived at opening time were able to get a table for a bit more than an hour. Quite a number of options in the menu and we all enjoyed our choices. They were some of the best pizzas we had recently and I think it was largely due to the yummy tomato sauce and the quality of the pizza dough. Highly recommend.

Our group of 6 enjoyed a lovely evening at Osteria Baralla last night to celebrate a birthday. We were welcomed by the friendly Jonathan who was an excellent host. All the food was great, with the highlight being the bistecca florentine steak which was fabulous.
A complimentary dessert for the birthday guest was a nice touch from the lovely and friendly waitress, Aurora. Overall, this Osteria is a fantastic choice if you’re visiting Lucca, highly recommend.

There are so many places to eat in Lucca, and Pan di Strada fits the bill for good food.

The spaghetti was cooked beautifully, and surprisingly the Corona matched well on a warm day.
I also finished off my partners Bruschetta, fresh tomatoes on a toasted bread, that was tasty.

Excellent sandwiches—I had a #12 (truffle spread) and my husband had #28—both were very fresh and delicious, and affordable. The women who helped us were cheerful and friendly, and clearly care about the work they do. It is mostly for take out, so we sat at a bench just outside of the place and enjoyed some beer with our lunch. Highly recommend!

We arrived in Lucca late at night on a weekend, so finding a place to eat was a bit of a challenge. Luckily, Mara Meo was able to fit us in. Our waiter was a great guy who was a lot of fun to talk to. He made us feel welcome. We had some pizza and beer and everything was delicious. They have 1L jugs of beer, which was a fun, and I'd recommend it! This place is a great, relaxed environment where you can get some decent food. There were lots of families here, which was a fun environment. I'd recommend it.

Gluten-free and lactose free options for your pizza. Crisp crust and a little tough to cut, but the taste was very good. The setting is very nice, located on a square in front of an old church. Nice family vibe outside, there is a decent sized indoor dining area as well. Nice service and they spoke English.

2023.10.11 - Tuesday and most restaurants in the area were closed. This one was open. It has a bit of a Pizza Hut vibe. I was quite satisfied with the salad, Ricca (8.50Euro). The wine pours were ridiculously small and the wine gave me a headache later in the evening (5.50Eurox2). I was looking for pizza and I ordered there specialty pizza, Épica Picolla (12Euro), in the small size. It had Burrata on it and arugula and “uncooked” ham. It was spectacular in appearance. The Burrata was new to me and I enjoyed it. The crust and remainder of the pizza was ordinary. I was charged a 1 Euro cover charge to sit in the mostly empty restaurant.

Mostly good sandwiches, I got the famous 42 and a selection of others.
The 42 was tasty and so were the others but the chicken cutlet (37) with salad and mayo wasn't good (too salty and cutlet was small).
As portions I think it's great, plus the service was quick and kind. My only suggestion is perhaps that you must go for the must complex options (which are probably tasty). Otherwise paying around 8 euros just for bread, prosciutto and mozzarella seems too much. I was expecting some sauce or something to make it more tasty but it was just prosciutto and mozzarella.
This is a fantastic little hole in the wall with a menu as large as the whole wall! Their fries are wonderful and the most unusual shape. They are also fast and friendly.
Food was amazing and was just what a person needs to feel full for lunch. The worker there was nice, but I could tell he was stressed from being the only worker there, and was a little snippy at some people. But its understandable. Overall though, this is a place to remember.

We have lived in Lucca for nearly 9 years and have dined at all pizzerias in the Historic Center. I can say without a doubt that Fuori Di Piazza is the very best pizzeria. If you're trolling the streets for somewhere that's bigger than a cafe but smaller than a Michelin Steakhouse, then this place is the right selection.
The food is fine here, there's a variety of choices and the food is very tasty. We had some Focaccia and some entrees (the Focaccia was more like a folded over pizza I'll admit...) and everything tasted fine. Sure, there are fancier places around, but this place is on the square, won't cost you 100€, and the service was polite and helpful.
We were here in the winter and there was an ice skating rink outside. I suspect that there are activities in the square during the summer as well. The large amount of outdoor seating will be something to enjoy in the summer sun.
While they did have some desserts available, we did decide to head out for Gelato so that we could wander while having dessert.
This is a lovely place for lunch on the Piazza Napoleone in the centre of Lucca. Plenty of tables and lots of great choices for lunch. The toasted flatbread was exceptional and service good.

One of the historical pizzerias in Lucca, located on the city centre's main street and loved by generations of Lucchesi, turned out to be a complete fraud!
Differently from the restaurant’s slogan, the pizza is everything but made in the Napolitan way; it’s flat, burned, and poor of condiments.
About the service, well, when they say that apples don’t fall far from the tree, the service is the perfect representation of it. The personnel couldn’t understand what the customers were saying to them.
Last, but not least of importance, the place is overcrowded. We’ve eaten in harm of the other customers. I don’t recommend it even to my worst enemy.
Decent pizza with all the classics on the menu in no frills environment. If your are up for a quick pizza this is the place if you want a romantic pizza dinner for two look further.

After a week in Italy, this was the first restaurant where the food was delicious! Even though the place is next to the tennis courts and out of the center, the atmosphere is pleasant. A small complaint is the direction of the form of the table - you have to download the app to choose.

The best pizza inside the walls! Excellent quality and the perfect crust - crispy on the bottom, chewy on the inside. The pastas are excellent as well - try the lasagne! My family of three decided to have a quick lunch/dinner at Pizzeria Santa Maria after checking the customer reviews here, and I can say that it was a delightful experience. We were not very hungry so we opted for a "light" meal consisting of a bresaola dish and a fresh mozzarella salad, but we were tempted to try one of the focaccias as well. It was absolutely the best focaccia we have ever tasted and quite unique in taste and appearance. My son, who is a very picky eater, said that the ham pizza was one of the best he has ever eaten. The service was very warm and friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Lucca. It is very close to a breathtaking green area of the city.
We keep coming back here every time we are in Lucca. The range and quality of the pizzas is excellent and the service is great. Our dog Oscar particularly likes the nice waitress as well! Ignore the more expensive and tourist-focussed places when you're in Lucca and come here instead.
6.22.18 - ***ORIGINALLY POSTED ON TRIPADVISOR*** this is my first review on TripAdvisor, but I mainly post on GoogleMaps, which is next. This is damn good pizza, but I have nothing to compare it to in Italy because these are our first pies.
The staff/management/owner are welcoming, patient, and thoughtful. I first asked for the Capriccosa and the Quattro Stagioni, but they said it is the same pizza just organized differently. So I ordered the Capriccosa and the Capers&Anchovies. This is some serious eats. Everything was made with fresh quality ingredients; the front of the house (outdoor seating) was packed; the staff smiled at me constantly; no one was gruff or impatient with me after reviewing the menu for 10 minutes; nothing was burnt or overcooked; the pizza pie maker dude said goodbye to me on my way out; amaze-balls.
We ate our pizzas like savages in our room. They didn't cut the pie, but we scavenged knives and forks and the pie cut like butter. This was unreal. In NYC, the pies would probably not cut the same, and I can't say for sure, because it never happens.
Do yourself a favor and support this place when you visit Lucca, if not for the food, then for the people who make the pizza pie and serve you.

The crust was soft and it's all gooey in the center which is one of the characteristics of a pizza Napolitana.
The couple that runs the pizzeria is from Napoli and they only make 300 pizzas a day, so make sure you come in time to catch one of the three hundred!
After paying, the couple gave us Limoncello, too!

This place is good for snacking but there is no quality here. The pizza’s are fine and cheap but not the best. The staff is grumpy and they don’t serve with a smile. Still 3 stars because the bill was on the low side.
One advice for the restaurant, stop with the service cost of 1.5€ for each person.

Stopped in Lucca for lunch for the day and found this hidden surprise. Employees were so courteous and thankfully spoke English very well. They were attentive and friendly. The food was really great. My friends and I had many different foods from the menu and we all left very happy.
Normally, it's really quite nice in here and the food is pretty good. We like our coffee to be really boiling hot, so asked for it to be boiling hot with little foam and an extra pot of hot water. Unfortunately, the coffee was cold and had lots of foam. The "pot" of water was actually a glass which made it really hard to pour into the coffee and it was also only luke warm. We were in a rush so didn't bother to do anything about it. On a more positive note, the pizza slice I had was very nice... although it could have been hotter :)

Probably on the thinner size on ingredients, cheese and sauce as compared to American pizza but the crust is simply one of the best I have had! They do get quite busy and there are only three small tables for 6 available. Most would buy and eat standing outside or find one of the stone benches sticking out of building. Try the zucchini pizza as the dough is probably infused with saffron and it’s uniquely delicious. The black charcoal dough pizza is more of a gimmick and is a bit dry and tasteless. Overall, a good place lunch or snack place! Highly recommended.
Amazingly delicious pizza. Don’t be put off if it’s re-heated for you from the counter…all 4 slices of mine were and they were crispy, flavourful and just divine.
Surprisingly out of the 4, the plain tomato base one with basil was my favourite ❤️

Dante & Gentucca is a charming and intimate pizzeria right in the heart of Lucca. What makes it stand out is not only the warm and welcoming service but also the unique “pizza by the slice” approach, which allows you to taste several varieties in one visit. The crust is perfectly thin and crisp, the toppings fresh and balanced, and every bite is simply bursting with flavor. It’s without a doubt the best pizza I’ve ever eaten, and one of those rare food experiences that make you want to plan a return trip to the city just for another taste. A true hidden gem, and absolutely worth visiting!

This was one of the best pizzas I had in Italy! We had to order some slices to go (they didn’t have Aperol and we wanted one). All of them were amazing - the dough was super fluffy and the ingredients were flavourful.
I really recommend you to try several and different slices so you can experience how amazing it is. And the price is super worthy! One of the cheapest meals we paid.
Would definitely come back!
Exceptional pizza by the slice. Only 3 tables for dine in so very small space but our 20 visit on a Wednesday was delicious discovering a black dough with veggie toppings was very memorable for a light dinner after big lunch.

We stumbled upon this gem during our walk at the city wall in Lucca. In the first evening we had Pizza with the house wine. The wine was very good. The pizza was one of the best we tried here in Italy.
At the end we had some very good coffee!
The second day we tried the focaccia. Thoas focaccia were absolutely delicious! The staff was very kind!

We ordered a focaccia and a pizza from here. The pizza was decent but I definitely ordered poorly! My wife had a tuna focaccia and said it was amazing, so we ordered some more to take home for the rest of our group. She wasn't wrong, great bread, great filling. Order a focaccia!

Fantastic service, very helpful, thoughtful and friendly! Even got a heart shaped pizza for the 10yo joining. The Nutella focaccia is also a great breakfast idea in case you are traveling! Great for kids and adults so highly recommend visiting when in Lucca!
It was the best pizza ever (said my 10 year old). The focaccia are a real discovery...such an array of choices and every single one we tried was scrumptious. We even took some home for picnic the next day and couldn't prevent ourselves from taking the Nutella/nutella mascarpone one home to have for breakfast....decadent in only the best ways. Add to that the incredible, warm, friendly, attentive and thoughtful staff, in particular Giulia who made our visits so special and made us feel at home. Great location just outside the city walls, plenty of seating....a MUST stop for anyone visiting Lucca
