Sombrero Beach in Marathon is a family-friendly destination with a beautiful park and beach area. The beach offers amenities such as picnic pavilions, volleyball courts, restrooms, showers, and full handicap accessibility. From April to October, the beach serves as a nesting ground for Loggerhead turtles. During this time, human activity may be restricted to protect the turtles and their eggs. The area also provides opportunities for snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, and diving.
As professional photographers, we absolutely love shooting at Sombrero Beach in Marathon, FL—especially during sunset. 🌅 The soft golden light, swaying palms, and peaceful shoreline create the perfect setting for romantic, natural, and breathtaking photos. Whether it’s a couples session, engagement, maternity, family shoot, or even a surprise proposal, this location never disappoints. The colors at sunset are unreal—and we know just how to capture them to make your photos truly unforgettable. Planning a session in the Florida Keys? Nice beach to relax and enjoy the water There are bathrooms and spots to wash your feet. They also have a playground, volleyball courts and a spot to launch kayaks. You can bring dogs to walk and they have clean up stations for your dog and to help keep the beach clean. You have to pay to park and other gets crowded so parking fills up.
Mary U — Google review
Amazing children’s park and park is visibility appealing BUT the beach not so much. Sea grass everywhere and the odor is terrible. We were here a few years back and wasn’t this way. Not planning on returning when in the area.
Karen C — Google review
The beach was… decent. Not a Caribbean paradise like Varadero, but it had its charm. The best part? It’s pet-friendly, so I got to bring my husky along for the adventure. The sand wasn’t postcard-perfect, but you could still wade in and enjoy a refreshing swim. They even have a little spot where you can change and rinse off with regular water before heading home—simple, but handy after a salty dip.
Richard R — Google review
Really loved Sombrero Beach! The beach itself is beautiful and perfect for relaxing, with volleyball courts and accessible bathrooms. The only downside was a bit of a smell, but overall it’s a great spot to spend the day.
Nathacha A — Google review
We went twice over a 2 day period at the end of May. I'm not sure if it's the time of year or year-round, but the edge of the water was completely covered in seaweed. The water was warm and pleasant, and there were spickets to wash your feet from sand in the facilities. There's a lot of pavilions, picnic tables, playground equipment, and parking.
Hannah — Google review
This was a very picturesque beach with excellent outdoor foot wash and shower spray. When we were here, there was very little seagrass/seaweed. However, in addition to the smell of sulpher, we were dissapointed to see the posted sign prohibiting swimming due to increased bacteria. Many people were in the water. We went in as well, but didn't put our heads under. If we weren't concerned with the bacteria and there wasn't as unpleasant order, we would give this beach 5 stars. The sandy area was adequate and the beach wasn't crowded. There are very nice picnic areas (not sure if you reserve them in advance for use) and a park for kids with sunshade.
Marilu D — Google review
Sombrero Beach has nice views and a chill vibe, but it didn’t fully match the hype. The scenery’s solid, but the beach itself could use better upkeep and a little more energy. It’s cool for a quick stop, but not the highlight of the Keys trip. #LouieKsUp #RealReviews #FloridaKeys

Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park in Key West is a 54-acre National Historic Landmark that offers a blend of history, nature, and beach activities. The park features a pre-Civil War fortress, beautiful beaches where visitors can enjoy sunrise and sunset views, and diverse wildlife. Nature trails provide opportunities to observe native wildflowers and birdwatching, while snorkeling allows exploration of the underwater ecosystem with colorful coral reefs.
I love visiting state parks, and this was my first time at Fort Zachary Taylor—it did not disappoint! I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it, from the shaded picnic areas to the beautiful beach. Be sure to bring water shoes, as it’s quite rocky when getting into the water. The fort itself was fascinating to explore, with lots of history to take in. It’s also a fantastic spot to watch the sunset. There was plenty of parking and the restrooms were clean and well-maintained. A peaceful, scenic place to spend the day in Key West!
Maria C — Google review
The fort itself is pretty neat. Ocean Breeze making the heat more tolerable. Be careful in the water and be sure to check the color of the flag indicating level of hazard. If you swim next to the Rocks you will see a lot of colorful fish. Several times I would see a dozen go by and sometimes some very large ones as well. Had a pelecan land by me about 3 feet away and chilled next to me. If water is rough though it can push you into the rocks and scratch up so be careful. Lots of shade with picknic tables. 2.50 a person by bike.
Brent J — Google review
In Key West, many people miss visiting this hidden gem — a perfect combination of beach and historic fort! The white sand and peaceful surroundings make it a wonderful place to relax and explore. While the water isn’t ideal for swimming, the scenery and calm atmosphere are worth the visit. If you’re near Miami and want to enjoy a quiet, scenic, and slightly wild beach experience, this is definitely the place to be!”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I visited Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park in Key West and absolutely loved it. It’s a beautiful place where history and nature come together. The fort is fascinating to explore and offers spectacular ocean views. The beach is peaceful, with clear turquoise water perfect for swimming or snorkeling. There are also plenty of shaded areas to relax and enjoy a picnic. It’s the perfect spot to spend the day, learn a bit of history, and take in the natural beauty of Key West. 🌞🏝️📸

Great beach area to relax and enjoy. Chair and umbrella rentals available. Full snack bar serving a multitude of lunch items and drinks. Snorkeling right from the beach on several rock reefs; many great fish swimming on the reefs.
Butt W — Google review
I had a few hours in the afternoon and wanted to get some snorkeling in before sunset. This beach was less than 10 minutes away from my hotel on Duval by bike, and the gear rental crew in the beach had me in the water in no time. I had no idea that such a complete beach experience with fantastic snorkeling was so easily available. The site is complete with beach rentals (chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear, etc), a food stand, picnic tables, souvenirs, bathrooms, and outdoor showers. There a fee for using the park, but it very reasonable ($2.50 for one in a bike). In the water I saw arguably nearly as many fish on the rocks as in did scuba diving in the reef. As a matter of fact I only saw a shark and ray here as opposed to the reef. The bulk of the fish were found in the west rock pile which is close to the edge of the beach and nearer to the boat traffic and possibility of more current, so practice caution if you don’t have much experience in the water. The current can also force you into the rocks if you’re not careful, so better to stay to the east if there is any concern. If you time your day right you can stroll over to the sunset beach when that time arrives, but that the park closes after the sun drops.
Aaron C — Google review
We visited funds that, so the only thing we did was play in the ocean and watched the sunset. So I cannot comment as to the for or other things on the premise. However, this speech was definitely the most beautiful on the entire island of Key West. It was very blue and clear highly highly recommend checking out this beach! It does cost $2.50 per person to enter via a car, and the ticket guards stay there until 8 PM when it closes, so don’t expect to come a little late to get in for free.

Beaches
Smathers Beach, located on the southern shore of Key West, is a popular destination for young people on spring break. It offers amenities such as showers, volleyball courts, and jet ski rentals. The beach is known for its brilliant sunset views and stretches over half a mile along the Atlantic coast. Despite getting crowded during midday, it's possible to find quiet spots for relaxation or even a romantic evening under the night sky after dark.
Nice beach. They were cleaning up the seaweed when we got there. The storms really brought it to shore. Sandy beaches. I think the water would have been prettier if not for the storms. Plenty of parking. There was a rental area for kayaks, tubes, chairs, and loungers. Not really busy. We enjoyed it.
Kathy I — Google review
I love this beach. They have plenty of parking. Most now is pay to park but I'm still grateful they have it. They have showers to rinse off and restrooms. The water is easy to get out of, the sand is firm and easy to walk on.
Sarah M — Google review
Last day adventures in Key West, FL. Went to Smathers Beach. Parking is plentiful, but there maybe some luck involved depending on date/time when you come to the beach. We got lucky today, and it was awesome. The beach is super clean, quiet and family friendly. I was able to get chairs and umbrella rented for 1/2 price since we came after 2:00 p.m. Today was windy, but it was still a great day on a beach. There was food for purchase, and the vendors took credit cards which was perfect. The bathroom was clean, and the beach was just as clean.
John I — Google review
Easy beach access. Lots of parking. Restrooms were closed at the end of the day -early evening hours. Had a few different shower areas at each beach entrance/exit. Did see a lifeguard that was closing up his station - this was around 5pm. There are lots of picnic tables and seating by the parking area. A section of the water that was close to the shore had a dip in the sea level...so be mindful, especially with kids. Can play beach volleyball. Huge long stretch of sand to stretch out between people. Great for kids, families- and everyone.
Shawna L — Google review
One of the best spots to unwind in Key West. The sand was soft, water was clear and calm, there was plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the sun. We loved how peaceful it felt in the evening. Parking was easy to find along the road, and the beach was clean and well kept during our visit.
Rajesh R — Google review
A lot of seaweed & grass both in the water & on shore. Would have preferred city have cleaned up the beach... there's not a terribly lot of it anyway and even less with all the the plant life washed up on shore.
Donna H — Google review
Smathers Beach is one of the largest beaches in Key West and it’s beautiful for a walk, relaxing under the palm trees, or enjoying the sunset. However, during the summer months there is a lot of seaweed, and because of that the smell can be very unpleasant. If you’re visiting outside of summer, it’s a much nicer experience.
Artem P — Google review
Nice area and beach, but make sure you come at the right time. Bad algae right now, and the odor is horrendous. Evidently this time of year it hits here pretty hard. Also, decent amount of homeless find there way around this beach, so just keep an eye out.

Curry Hammock State Park, located in Marathon, FL, spans both sides of Crawl Key in the Florida Keys. The park offers a variety of activities such as camping, fishing, kayaking, and hiking trails amidst wetlands and seagrass beds. It features a 28-site campground with oceanfront views and amenities for both tent and RV campers. Visitors can also enjoy coastal camping and kiteboarding at this 1,000-acre park.
What a lovely place to walk around. We saw some amazing animals & beautiful birds. Some good practical advice would be to make sure you download the map, carry plenty of water & bug spray. Well worth a visit!
Kevin S — Google review
Very nice park with a beach and kayaks/paddle board rentals available. The sand bar is relatively close where all the boats and PWCs stop and you can easily swim to kayak there. The island across from the park is super nice as well with a bunch of palm trees and coconuts.
Joshua L — Google review
They do charge by person and not by car. This park is on the smaller side, but they do have bathroom, one shelter and swings. They beach area I wouldn’t recommend for families with kids as it was hard to go up and down for the dune area. The view was beautiful and we saw a few crabs. Compared to other parks I would recommend for kayaking or to walk in the trails. But not for a beach day.
Yadira — Google review
It's a pretty place to visit. But the beach had a lot of the sargassum grass all over it. We arrived at low tide so getting in the water and walking way out was not an option. We'd tried to rent kayaks but the QR code did not work and there was no attendant available. We watched the surf boarders and sat in the sun w some shade from a clump of small trees.
Kathy N — Google review
Almost 5 star review if they had full hookup. Enjoyed our stay riding bicycles, beach, watching wind surfers, very well maintained central shower facilities, would stay again. Warning the ants are incessant, first park in 2 years invaded our rv after every rain, which was frequent. No see ums bring your bug spray. Love the foliage between most all rv lots, privacy one of best parks we’ve stayed!!!!
H. Y — Google review
Very quiet and a nice retreat from the busy city work life. Park is well-maintained and very clean. Camp grounds are by reservation and gate code is necessary to enter and exit. RVs and tent campers welcomed.

Such an amazing place to relax and refresh. We were fortunate to be there during Hawk Watch 2025 and learned a load of information about migrating raptors.

This park is wonderful to camp in. Well spaced camp sites, clean facilities and a nice beach to relax at. It is really nice for day use as well. Marathon is one of my favorite keys and is easy to explore by bike from this park. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. W

Higgs Beach, located near Downtown Key West, is a family-friendly Atlantic-facing beach spanning 16.5 acres. It offers various attractions such as remnants of the 19th-century West Martello Tower, an old African burial ground, two piers, a restaurant, and a kiddie play area. The beach also features a fenced dog park where pets can roam off-leash in grassy areas with benches for owners to relax.
I recently visited a restaurant bar with my family in Key West with a front view of the beach and was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. The location was truly unbeatable, with a stunning view of the beach and the sound of the waves creating a relaxing ambiance. The outdoor seating allowed for a perfect vantage point to enjoy the beautiful sunset. The menu offered a variety of options, from fresh seafood to classic bar bites. I opted for the fish tacos and they were flavorful and cooked to perfection. The drinks were also well-crafted and refreshing, adding to the tropical vibe of the location. The beer was perfect. The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure that we had everything we needed throughout our visit. The prices were reasonable for the quality of food and the prime beachfront location. In conclusion, this restaurant bar is a must-visit for anyone looking for a delicious meal with a view in Key West. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.

Great beach, soft sand, palm trees, and the old pier blocks the waves so really good for kids. Has a little bar and restaurant, volleyball and bathrooms.
Christy B — Google review
We absolutely loved this beach. it’s one of the clearest and calmest we’ve visited. There’s convenient parking nearby, and plenty of space to walk right into the ocean. It’s perfect for just standing in the water, watching the sunset, or enjoying the beauty of nature. As you can see from the photo, we had a great time here and definitely recommend it!
Monica S — Google review
This was a beautiful place of remembrance for those who have lost their lives. When we learned the story of the African slaves who were brought here to the island, our hearts broke. They created the space for the children to be buried and they wanted to created something else for them across the street just to find 100+ bodies of children buried. This is why there is a patch of untouched land bc they decided not to unearth those bodies. Definitely a must see for tourist and a learning experience for me.
Ermi A — Google review
Haunting and beautiful. Sad memorial but a noteworthy addition to the history of key west. Glad they are telling the story.
Courtney M — Google review
Has a very unique story & past. Learned a lot about this beach on the haunted ghost tour, so if you are curious about what happened here hundreds of years ago, Def look into it! Has tennis & pickelball courts, playgrounds, volleyball, a fitness trail, free parking, and so much more. It's not the beach I would head to for a beach day, but definitely stop by the local garden club as it's simply amazing! This place has something for everyone, especially active people.
Brock G — Google review
Beautiful garden, right by the beach! So beautifully kept. A must stop. Pier right next to it that you can walk too.

Park
John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, also known as the 'Grand Canyon of the Keys,' is an undersea park established in 1963. It covers around 178 nautical square miles and is home to a diverse range of marine life, including fish, lobsters, and colorful living organisms that make up the reef. The park offers opportunities for snorkeling, glass-bottom boat tours, kayaking, and camping along with gear rental for various aquatic activities.
A shorter version suitable for a Google Review could read like this: --- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is absolutely breathtaking! The staff were friendly, professional, and deeply passionate about preserving this beautiful environment. We took the snorkeling tour and were amazed by the colorful coral and sea life. The park is clean, well-organized, and offers so much to explore—from glass-bottom boat rides to peaceful mangrove kayak trails. A true Florida Keys treasure and a must-visit for anyone who loves nature and the ocean!
David ( — Google review
Worth the entrance fee, and a nice shallow beach. You can find much coral in the water and it's enjoyable as long as the water is clean and a good temperature. Very nice and well kept aquarium and daily showings of films. Last minute booking for a snorkeling tour is not very possible, as would be expected, but the employees were very informative and directed us to Sundiver's, who did get us in last minute. Kayak rentals, boat rentals, and a very nice park. Great way to spend a few hours.
Ayden S — Google review
The Park was such a great experience and the perfect start to our Florida Keys road trip. We rented a double kayak and, even without any experience or navigation skills, we were able to follow the recommended route easily on our own. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful, so we felt comfortable and safe the entire time. It’s a wonderful place to explore independently and to enjoy the beautiful nature. Just make sure to bring sunscreen and mosquito spray – there can be quite a few mosquitoes in the mangroves, but luckily the park’s own shop has you covered if you forget anything!
Leonie T — Google review
Very cool place. Trail was closed, which was why we wanted to stop. Breaches were more hard shell shallow waters. But iguanas and other wildlife were everywhere. They have snorkeling, boat rides, great gift shop, dive shop, camping and so much more. We were glad we stopped.
Jeff W — Google review
John Pennekamp State Park is an absolute gem in the Florida Keys! This place is so cool, with stunning natural beauty that's perfect for sightseeing. We loved exploring the trails that wind through the lush mangroves—it's like stepping into a tropical adventure. There's a convenient boat ramp for easy access to the water, plus clean showers and bathrooms that make it super family-friendly. A food truck onsite kept us fueled with tasty bites, and the beach area is ideal for relaxing or dipping your toes in. Kayaking here was a highlight, gliding through the clear waters spotting marine life, and the walking paths are great for a leisurely stroll. It's the perfect spot to spend an entire day immersed in nature—highly recommend! 5 stars!

Kayaking at John Pennekamp State Park was amazing! The mangrove trails were peaceful and beautiful, with clear water and tons of wildlife all around. It felt like an adventure and a relaxing escape at the same time. The park is well-maintained, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

What makes this place special? The "Diving Capital of the World" Key Largo is the first and largest of the Florida Keys, renowned worldwide for its incredible underwater ecosystem. This location is a paradise for marine enthusiasts, home to the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park—the first underwater park in the U.S.—and key dive sites like the Molasses Reef and the impressive USS Spiegel Grove shipwreck. Beyond the water, its unique location offers access to the tropical hardwood forests of Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammocks State Park. It’s the perfect blend of seaside relaxation and serious ocean adventure. Tips for Fellow Local Guides: For Divers/Snorkelers: Mention that the Christ of the Abyss statue is a must-see. The shallow reefs are excellent for beginners and snorkelers, while certified divers can explore the deeper wrecks. Dining: Key Largo is famous for its sunset views. Advise visitors to find a bay-side restaurant (Gulf side) around sunset for the best dining experience. Fresh seafood is a given, especially the local catch-of-the-day. Accessibility: As the closest Key to the mainland, it's easily accessible from Miami (approx. 1-2 hour drive). The Overseas Highway (US-1) is the main route. Note that public beaches are limited, so water activities usually start from marinas or parks.

Dry Tortugas National Park is a remote and secluded destination located 68 miles west of Key West. It encompasses seven islands, including Fort Jefferson, and offers pristine coral reefs, white sandy beaches, abundant marine life, and breeding grounds for tropical birds. Visitors can enjoy activities such as camping, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and birdwatching.
Amazing and beautiful park. We took a seaplane to get there and highly recommend. the Fort's history is fascinating, and it was very cool to walk around. the added danger of no guard rails was a bit different than many of the more crowded parks and was a fun element of adventure for us.
Ava G — Google review
Clear blue water, white sand beach, and the feeling that you've truly reached the end of the earth. Simply put - it's pristine. You can immediately tell this is an area uninhabited by man. It's an excellent way to spend a day, and a must-do if you're already visiting Key West. Yes, the Florida beaches and especially the ones in the Florida Keys are astounding, but the beaches of Dry Tortugas are just one step beyond. If you're a scuba diver, it's unforgettable to scuba dive here, and you'll join the ranks of the select few who have done so. Highly recommend!

Learn from my mistakes! Be prepared to entertain yourself on the ferry ride, 2+ hours each way. Bring food! They provided a cold bagel breakfast, which was ok, but 1/2 a bagel really isn’t enough food. The sandwich lunch was pretty gross by lunch time. They sit for hours, the bread was soggy. I should have printed out the 20 page info on the fort. We didn’t take the guided tour and signs are few so we didn’t really have much info on what we were looking at. We simply were not prepared to visit Ft Jefferson. With all of that being said…. The ride on Yankee Freedom was really nice, well air conditioned! The staff was fantastic, at all times. I enjoyed a bit of snorkeling, and did some walking around. Everything was very clean. There are 2 stalls in the dressing room, I was very uncomfortable sharing them with men in women’s clothing. I absolutely left 2 stars off my review because of this, the NP Service needs to do better for biological women.

Visiting Dry Tortugas National Park was an unforgettable adventure! The crystal-clear water and white sandy beaches looked like something out of a postcard. Exploring Fort Jefferson was fascinating, with so much history and amazing ocean views all around. Snorkeling was the highlight — I saw colorful fish and coral that felt straight out of a dream. The boat ride there was relaxing and offered beautiful scenery along the way. It’s truly a hidden gem and one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to!

We did the half day tour on the sea plane. We were on the island for 2 and 1/2 hours. It was just the right amount of time to tour the fort and get in a quick snorkel. The water was cloudy the day we were there, so we did not snorkel for long, only saw a few fish. But I loved the views from the fort, the history, and the plane ride. If you take the early morning plane ride, you are on the island the entire time before the ferry arrives,

Amazing experience worth every penny! Dry Tortugas national park is a unique experience that will leave you with memories that will last a lifetime. Bahia Honda State Park, located on Big Pine Key in the lower Florida Keys, is a renowned destination for beach lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. With three sandy beaches, including the acclaimed Calusa and Sandspur stretches, visitors can bask in the sun or partake in water activities like snorkeling and kayaking. The park's clear shallow waters make it an ideal spot for snorkeling right off the beach to observe diverse marine life.
Beautiful state park, which will allow you also to walk up onto the old bridge, although it doesn't let you go incredibly far. They have three separate beaches. As in other areas of florida, the water is clear, so you can see the fish in them and there are plenty of conch shells that you could find underwater, although be sure not to remove them! (They are protected.)

This is a great park with a beautiful beach on the Gulf side. The ocean side had a lot of dead smelly grass when we were there. It's the off season so not crowded. It's one of the few beaches in the keys. Snack shop is pricey tho. $10 for 2 ice cream sandwiches.

Nice shallow Loggerhead beach. Small strip though and small amounts of shade. Due to wind couldn't rent umbrella but we did get a chair. Facilities nice and clean. Beautiful view of old bridge.

This is my wife's favorite Campground and park due to three fantastic beaches and shallow water 50 yd + that she can Wade out and hunt for shells. the campsites are well isolated and you feel like you're by yourself. the sites along the beach are excellent. However Beware of the no-see-ums they really like me.

Beautiful state park , the water is really nice and calm too. I would have liked to explore some of the other beaches in the area but this was to be it for this day. The water was really nice and calm and clean . We enjoyed the visit. The changing rooms and showered were such a plus.

Multiple beach fronts and great swimming. Great for kids and adults alike. We went here a couple times, the location was excellent, between marathon and key west. Walk up the bridge, get some history and one of the highest points in the keys with great views in all directions.

Spent a few hours at Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys. The views of the old bridge were impressive and the beach looks great for children and younger families. It’s a nice spot for a short visit—good for a swim or a picnic—but not a standout in the Keys. Worth checking out if you're on a longer drive and need a stop

Anne's Beach, located in Islamorada, is a serene and natural spot dedicated to local environmentalist Anne Eaton. It offers a swim area, picnic tables, and a boardwalk for visitors to enjoy. The beach is often described as a small paradise where you can listen to local wildlife and wade in the shallow tropical waters. It's recommended to visit in the late afternoon, a couple of hours before sunset, bringing along a picnic and maybe even a paddleboard for relaxation.
A lovely place to stop, an accessible wooden path between trees with a descent to tiny beaches, picnic tables with a roof. Perfect.

Very nice private beaches with a long boardwalk. There are covered benches along the boardwalk with stairs leading down to the sand and water. There wasn’t much beach and sand when we got there but the water was warm and we enjoyed seeing the wildlife in the water.

Boardwalk with shaded picnic tables, good views but minimal swimming areas unless you don’t mind seaweed.
Bee S — Google review
We couldn’t find a spot to take a swim, but the place makes up for it in other ways — it’s completely pet-friendly, with clean restrooms and plenty of parking. Honestly, it’s more of a scenic stroll-with-your-dog kind of spot than a swimming destination.
Richard R — Google review
Very small, loud because off the highway, kids were bored, packed dirty sand, water not super clean. But the doc to walk to the “beach” was pretty. They had picnic tables and pavilions. Just not worth the stop.
Karina B — Google review
This is a great REMOTE beach. Good for secluded visits and has a ramp for paddlers to launch. Also bathrooms at the free parking lots. Also picnic pavilions for use (unk if you need to get a permit). There is a nice long boardwalk that joins both lots. There are no other amenities here. This is not a family vacay 'let's hang out at the beach day' as beach areas are super small and not joined together. You need to walk along the boardwalk to get from one to another. If you want a traditional beach experience go to Sombrero in Marathon.
Cathy S — Google review
It's a small beach area, it has a couple of picnic tables in the shade area so it's cooler and you can enjoy your picnic in the scenic view. It has a small parking, so it is limited, and it has a shower to rinse off. Clean park 👌 and it's FREE.
GrimzFamilyTravel — Google review
Great boardwalk with access down to the water in multiple locations. Many covered picknic areas allow for seating off of the not always welcoming "beach" surface. Great place to see wildlife hanging around. It is always a great stop to stretch our legs. Not my favorite place to swim tho.

Harry Harris Beach and Park, located in Tavernier, is a family-friendly destination with a man-made beach and various amenities. The park offers a sheltered swimming area, showers, a boat ramp, barbecue areas, and sports facilities. It features a tidal pool for kids to explore and is protected by a coral reef barrier that prevents large waves from reaching the shore. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling in the area and have picnics while taking in the stunning views.
Beautiful park, there is a small beach. We stopped to see if we wanted to fish there. Parking is $15, the gentleman at the gate allowed us to go in and explore before deciding if we would stay or not. After looking around, we decided to go elsewhere.

Nice park with a good playground for kids and decent bathrooms. Lots of concrete picnic beaches to use too. The "natural" pool area isn't very visually appealing for a swim but the walkway around it is nice.

Harry Harris Beach and Park is an absolute gem! The park is beautifully maintained, with clean facilities, plenty of picnic areas, and a serene atmosphere perfect for a family day out. The beach is stunning, featuring crystal-clear waters and soft sand, ideal for swimming, snorkeling, or just relaxing. There’s even a shallow area that’s perfect for kids to safely play. Nice little beach & park! There are picnic areas, restrooms, & and playground. Service dogs are allowed on sand, all others on grass areas.
Leslie R — Google review
There is no beach, it is just a small area of water surrounded by buoys and rocks, for small children. There are tables, grills (limited) a playground, restrooms, a jetty for fishing and an overpriced boat ramp. The views are nice, for a moment, but there are better and cheaper parks. This is simply not worth paying for (weekdays it's free), in case you're curious to go take a look.
Mariangeles D — Google review
There is a nice, enclosed swimming area that is good for kids. However, when we went today (January 3rd, 2023) there were a TON of little jellyfish in the swimming area. Most were just babies, but their sting can still make you sick especially in kids so that's just something to note. It's very dirty at the moment and needs cleaned up around the waters edge but otherwise is a nice area to take in nature and walk around the water. There is a walk way around the water and a large picnic area. There were two playgrounds and lots of lizards and iguanas running around. My daughter had fun swimming until we noticed all the jellyfish and made her get out of the water. Could just be the time of year, and if it wasn't for that she probably would have enjoyed swimming for awhile. The views are really nice from the walkways and the benches.

Long Key State Park, located in the Florida Keys, was once a luxurious resort destination for the wealthy elite. However, it was devastated by a hurricane and never fully restored to its former opulence. Today, the park offers a range of outdoor activities such as bonefishing, canoeing, and hiking. Nestled between Islamorada and Marathon, this picturesque island is renowned for its excellent fishing and birdwatching opportunities.
Great park, $4.50 for one person $6 for two. Nice parking areas, restrooms , covered areas to sit, and plenty of chairs spread around to use. And scenic views all the way around!!!

My sister and I went camping in August. It was a beautiful experience. We basically got the campground to ourselves since it was a rainy weekend, but still had a great time. The state park rangers were all incredibly kind, informative, and helpful. One of the rangers even helped a lone camper next to us bring her things to her car. Personally gave us great snorkeling spots and advice on bug preventative care. Overall made the trip for us so much better. Not only amazing people, but the showers and bathrooms were also very clean. I would 100% go again. I would recommend Thermacel (bug prevention), small fan for sleeping if you’re also thinking of going during the summer, and a wagon to transport your things to and from your camp. (Not necessary, but helpful!) If you have any questions definitely contact their number. I did a couple times before the trip and each ranger was kind and informative. Please go and support! Even the smallest contribution goes a long way to keeping these state parks lively, well kept, and beautiful.

Went for a hike over labor day weekend. Camp ground was full but the trails were really quiet. Starts with a nice boardwalk and takes you through a range of environments along the loop. Observation deck was closed, but the trails were great and well maintained. Some areas were flooded due to tidal surge. Beaches had lots of sea grass, but it made the bird watching great.

Coco Plum Beach, located on the island of Marathon, offers a completely natural seaside experience with its pristine and untouched surroundings. This spacious beach provides free parking, restrooms, and a nearby general store for picnic supplies. It is a popular spot for kite-boarders and is dog-friendly, making it a great place to meet locals and their pets. The beach's adjacency to wetlands attracts birdwatchers as it serves as a resting ground for various bird species.
Great shelling beach, not crowded, dog friendly, restrooms at entrance and free parking pretty much on the beach. Get out of your vehicle and it's about 15 steps to the sand. Hermit crabs and watch out for the Portuguese Man o' wars

Very secluded beach on the south side (Atlantic) side of Marathon fairly close to the bridge going to Islamorada. A great place to put in a kayak etc since there is a very short walk to the water. The water was very shallow and had no observable wave action the day we were there. Approximately 20 parking spaces which are free including a shower and small restroom facility. Careful as many dog owners use this beach as a bombing range.

There are not many beaches in the Florida Keys. I gave this one 4 stars because if you are there during high tide, there really isn't a beach. Try to go there during low tide. The beach is dog friendly. It has restrooms and a foot and full shower. There are so many crabs to see by the trees and on the beach.

Quiet beach, a little too quiet for us. Good for dog walkers and would imagine a great place to sit, relax and read a book.

This is a nice beautiful beach as part of Marathon city in the keys with free parking access. The beach is almost one mile long total and is made out very nice white powder sand when I was there was absolutely no seaweed in the water : that is because the wind was from the north for the past couple of days. While I was there Greg from Beach Raker: was there with its machine to remove all of the residual seaweed‘s on the beach, and he is doing that three times a week approximately. The beach is Dog friendly! The place is really clean there is approximately 20 parking spaces it is open from sunrise to Sunset and there is two very clean toilets ( with paper) with disabilities compliance, and one external shower plus one covered picnic area with three tables! Also the beach is composed of a very nice widely spread Hammock type vegetation with lots of shade to be naturally found : no need to bring any parasol in there. In all for me this was the perfect beach experience in the keys! If I could I would be here every day of the winter! Boat my wife and I are doing kite serve and this is one of the greatest spot if not the greatest spot in the keys to start a kite by a south component wind! I highly advise people to come and spend the day here!

Here you will find the perfect place to spend a wonderful time with us, the Doggos. Don't complain about sargassum and its particular smell, it's part of nature. If you see glass, or trash, you can do something about it, one at a time, it's always a good day to do something for Mother Nature. There are some old benches put up by the locals, please do not move them, they can break, respect the harmony of the place as it is. You can see some varieties of birds, on one occasion my human and I saw manatees from the shore, the vegetation is wonderful, you will see all kinds of snails and sea shells. The water is sometimes crystal clear, sometimes not, it all depends on the weather, the only thing you need is to have a good attitude to enjoy this peaceful place. Always remember: Beauty is always present, in the right eyes. If you get here, take care of Coco Plum Beach, because this place has a unique essence. “For us, a day here restores our soul, walking on the beach is never a waste of time, Coco Plum Beach is not a place, it is a feeling, it is the definitive cure for a bad day, and to recharge you with positive energy . The beach offers a campground, restrooms, and showers for visitors. It's a popular destination for kayaking, swimming, and snorkeling due to its sheltered and calm Gulf side location. Nice state park with three beaches to choose from. All have lots of sea grass on the shore. Calusa beach had the least amount of sea grass. The water area is full of rocks so water shoes are handy. Can also rent beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear. Concession stand with ice cream is nice. There is a walking path to the old train bridge.
Gayle N — Google review
We visited on a Wednesday in late December 2024 (Christmas Day). They were open. We arrived around 10AM and there were 3 cars waiting in front of us at the gate and plenty of parking in the parking lot by Calusa Beach (facing Florida Bay/to the North). We heard this was the best place to snorkel. We did hike up the bridge and at least see Loggerhead Beach. They weren't wrong about the snorkeling. While we didn't try the other beaches, there were plenty of small fish in the rocks by what I think is a small jetty. Many people were walking on top of it to take pictures but there were enough fish here to keep my kids entertained for the better part of an hour. The water was clear. There were a lot of hermit crabs as well on the rocks. If you went to the end of the jetty you have to be more carful as it gets pretty deep pretty quick 8-10 ft. Also boats and coming in and out of the marina and not all are following the rules. The Calusa Beach was great with great sand and relatively flat. They have a number of picnic benches with pergolas. Some have seen better days however. There was shade available too with trees. We had a great day here. The water was a little colder than we would've liked but the sun was out. Younger kids didn't stay in water long and mostly played on the beach. There were some people throwing around balls which some came pretty close to us when they missed. It wasn't what I call super crowded but I can only imagine what this might be like on a very packed day. I don't think I'd want to be here. The bathrooms were also pretty nice. They had a number of outdoor showers although some worked better than others and access here was all concrete so easier for wheelchairs and strollers. Overall we enjoyed our trip to this beach for the first time. We wish we had more time and would definitely come back. There are other hikes we really wanted to do and also explore the other beaches on the ocean side like Loggerhead Beach and Sandspur Beach.

Love this small beautiful beach in Bahia Honda with a historic view of the broken bridge. Picnics tables with grills are nearby, and you can even take a break from the crystal warm water to go visit the butterfly sanctuary it is located just underneath the broken bridge in which you can also find another path to go to the other side of the area and see a beautiful ⛱️ Beach. The trail is short but rocky, so make sure to put your shoes on. Calusa Beach is a must to visit and enjoy nature. Showers and dressing facilities can be found on the other side of the parking lot. The fee is included in your entrance fee to the Bahia Honda Statepark.

4.3/5 Stars. This is a really nice beach to visit. It use to be an amazing view up on the old bridge but they made it so you can't walk to the edge of the old bridge and look down into the water anymore. I was really disappointed in that. Use to be the coolest thing on that side of the beach. But this beach is very well maintained and has been for many years

This park is really beautiful, there is everything. Picnic tables with grills, some with shade, which you have to get to early, or bring your own umbrella. The beach is large and although there is sargassum, it is still beautiful, bathrooms, showers, everything clean and tidy. You can snorkel, kayak, you can also rent them in the park. There is a nice walk to the old bridge, with panoramic views. It is an ideal place to spend with the family, relax and sunbathe. We paid $8 for the car, being able to come and go freely. Small strip of sand just E of the much larger Higgs Beach. A nice place for a stroll or to look out at the Atlantic Ocean, but not a good swimming beach. Free Florida fun though not exactly the best place to rest unless you count hanging out on the seawall! Not to be unfair, there is one covered picnic area sans table. Anyway, it's a small park. The beach itself is very narrow and not unlike other Keys beaches it's rocky with coral and full of seagrass. You'd have to be pretty ambitious to lay out here. ...but there's a few good parking spots, plenty of shade, and lots of chickens if you're looking for pictures.

Sandspur Beach was a lovely find! We visited at the end of May and the water was warm (warmest I've experienced in the USA, because I'm from Massachusetts) and inviting — plus it was pretty empty, which made it even better. There was plenty of parking available for a small fee. The sand was soft and pleasant to walk on. The only minor issue was some seaweed near the shore, but that clears up once you go a little deeper into the water. Restrooms were available, though they closed about an hour before the park itself, so plan accordingly. The surrounding area also offers beautiful views — perfect for snapping some peaceful nature photos. Overall, a calm, relaxing beach day!

Founders Park is a 45-acre park located in Islamorada, offering a wide range of amenities for visitors. The park features a swimming pool, splash pad, sports facilities, playgrounds, and ocean access. Families can enjoy the palm-lined beach with opportunities for snorkeling, swimming, paddleboarding, and kayaking. Additionally, there are special events and activities available at the park.
Bring picnic table clothes or covers, bug spray, towels. Beach chairs..spf,umbrellas and water shoes.tons of rocks and just soft sand. No big waves just calm waters. Tons of picnic table, some in Shadded areas Great for families .great place to relax! Bathroom is not the best . Showers are outside on the sand area

Very well organized, with lots of activities if you want to do sports and stuff, like beach volleyball, etc. Even has bbq pits. The beach water is very shallow, so the water was hot. Good place considering here there was sand and almost no other spot on key largo has sand.

Nice park, beach, playground and outdoor sports for families. But beware the hords of mosquitoes during sunset - simple sprays will not bother them.

Exceptionally well landscaped 45 acre city park in Islamorada Florida. It has a small beach, Olympic size, pool, Pickleball courts playground, picnic area, marina, and many other recreational facilities. The park puts on festivals events, celebrations and youth activities. We love the miles of walking trails. There is an entry fee, but it is well worth it. Running a large park like this is not cheap and the small price you pay for entry will help maintain its cleanliness and safety. If you are camping at Sun outdoors, the entry is free.

The water is chilled in the summer and heated in the winter. Beautiful area and according to my son the water tastes great a 10 out of 10.

Nice and quiet little beach. It is great for families. You can bring your own coolers and food to grill. They are available for you to use. Bring charcoal. There is a bathroom available, a playground for children and showers. When you pay at the gate, they will tell you you can get out but keep your receipt to go back in, in case you need to get some food or drinks. Absolutely NO Alcohol permitted and no Pets. Bring your own chairs. We didn't know we could cook our own food, so it was a bummer. The mangrove smell is a bit strong. The water is nice. For a key, is good. I'm an islander , so I've seen better waters🤭🤣. You will pay $8 p/p. $5 children and seniors. There is a pool available , but the price is an extra $3 p/ adult and $2 per child and/or senior It is worth it

I had a wonderful experience at Founders Park Beach in Islamorada today. Parking was free in celebration of Thanksgiving, but even on regular days, the fees are very reasonable—$8 for adults and $5 for those under 18. The park itself is incredibly clean and well-maintained, offering a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for everyone. There are plenty of picnic areas that make it easy to enjoy a meal with family or friends while taking in the beautiful surroundings. For families, the playgrounds are a big hit with the kids, and for those looking to stay active, the beach volleyball court is a fantastic addition. It’s the perfect spot for a fun day outdoors, whether you want to relax or stay active. Founders Park Beach truly has something for everyone, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Islamorada!

Founders Park is an Islamorada GEM! 5 Stars to the facility the park, and the staff and team that run the facility! They host events daily from soccer, lacross, baseball, and have visitors going through nature trails, walking and exercising, to swimming at the beach. They have a pavilion that can be rented, and are the host location for the world famous Nautical Market Feb 21-22, 2026. This weekend of the nautical market does cause a traffic slowdown and visitors should plan accordingly. I’ve attached videos and pictures of the event and other things that take place at Founders park. The $8 entrance fee is truly a deal for visitors and they should enjoy the marina, the dog park, the sandy beach and all the park has to offer. Locals show their licensee for access. 5 stars and a big thank you to founders park!

Simonton Beach, the only public beach in downtown Key West, offers a peaceful escape from tourist crowds. Although small and popular among locals, it's advisable to arrive early for a spot on the soft sand. The pet-friendly beach has restroom facilities and a boat ramp for recreational use. It's conveniently located near Duval Street and Mallory Square, making it an ideal stop for a leisurely stroll or spontaneous addition to your day.
Small easy beach access. Plenty of chairs free to use, the lounge chairs are $15 for entire day. The “hut” is Lagerheads, they have broad menu with food and drinks. Sometimes there is live music. A bit crowded when cruise ships are docked nearby.
Chris — Google review
It's a very small beach and I definitely wouldn't want to visit in midday with so many people there. We came for a swim right after sunrise and had the beach to ourselves. As others have mentioned, the water is very clear and the sand is quite nice. The swimming was fantastic. I'd recommend a visit in the early morning or evening, when it isn't crowded.

The locals here were a blast to talk to! They taught us about the local fish and even showed us a barracuda under the dock. Its very small but the people were awesome. There was still plenty of room to swim around.

Water and beach were both very crowded. Fortunately there was a little bar with beverages and snacks. Also the water was nice and cool. It was walking distance from the cruise. It was very nice to be able to get off the cruise and have a quick dip in the water though.

Cannon Beach is a unique and beautiful destination located within Key Largo's John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. The beach features a series of cannons that are said to have come from a nearby shipwreck, adding to its intriguing charm. Visitors can enjoy the calm waters for swimming and snorkeling, with an old Spanish shipwreck just off the coast.
*Located in John Pennekamp State Park* Beautiful park that offers many services! You can go kayaking, paddleboarding, and snorkel/scuba. There's also a store on site incase you need/forgot swim gear. The beach itself is a bit rocky (manageable barefoot or bring some swim shoes). The water is calm, perfect for some light snorkeling activities (great for kids or beginners). We came mid May, so the water wasn't too cold or hot. Spent all mid afternoon there, people come and go but it never got too crowded. The restrooms are kept super clean and there's rinse off stations as well.
Jazz B — Google review
Park was nice and well kept. Beach was incredibly rocky. We had to purchase water shoes at the gift shop to manage the rocks. We tried to take a glass bottom boat tour but it was cancelled due to wind. It didn’t seem super windy, so check ahead of time if they will be running.
Amanda N — Google review
Hung out on the beach after our snorkeling trip. Beach is very rocky and doesn’t smell the greatest. Didn’t go in the water because it looked dirty. We did have lots of fun watching and feeding all the lizards.
Jennifer D — Google review
We visited on a Thursday morning in late December 2024. There was plenty of parking when we arrived around 9:30AM. There were 3 cars in front of us waiting to get in. We drove straight to Cannon Beach and got a pretty nice spot under a tree near the beach. Cannon beach has great snorkeling if don't have the time or want to pay for the snorkeling tour at the park. We brought all our own snorkeling gear. The trick for us was to snorkel near the rocks on the right hand side of the beach. The water was pretty clear for us as long as you don't kick up a lot of the bottom and messing it up for yourself. The rocks go pretty far out. The best spot was behind the mangrove patch at the further out island. The floor is very rocky so water shoes are also a must. The back side of the mangrove had as many and different variety of fish as we saw in Fort Zachary Taylor and Bahia Honda State Park. Possibly slightly more but that is also weather dependent. It was sunny all day when we were here and kind of overcast and cloudy when we visited the other 2 parks. I still think the snorkeling in Biscayne and Dry Tortugas National park was better. But this was a fraction of the cost. There was plenty of space on the beach for those who just wanted to lay out and sun bathe. This was a much more natural beach and I don't think they sweep it like many other public beaches but I find that way more interesting as it's teaming with wildlife. There was plenty of tree shade and shelters at this beach as well at right by the water. When you walk from Cannon Beach over to the bath houses, there is also benches you can sit on and just look out onto the water. The showers were a bit far away from the beach at the bath houses. The showers are located outside and some shower heads were better than others. They also had changing rooms inside. By the time we left around 11:30 the parking lot was almost full. There were like 8 or 9 cars in line to get in. Overall if we were in the area of Key Largo or maybe even as far as Miami, I'd consider doing a drive to John Pennekamp State Park just to do some snorkeling at Cannon Beach. Just realize this is not your typical "beach" when you hear someone say "let's go to the beach". It's not clean beautiful white sand where you jump and frolic in the waves. This is a naturalist's playground and a chance to explore nature in this very specific biome.
David L — Google review
Alright I’m going to be honest, this beach is mediocre at best. As a beach. The state park nearby is phenomenal. This beach is pretty rocky (as all of the beaches in the Keys are) with lots of ants. The water was nice but I found myself yearning to be back in Miami. If you are looking for a comfortable lounging beach, this isn’t it. However I did buy some trinkets from the nearby shop so there is shopping. Oh also there is a cannon! Perhaps that is the draw of the beach? The cannon is cool to look at. It’s just that you can only look at a cannon for so long before it’s not that cool anymore. If you are in the area paddleboarding though it’s worth a stop!
Samantha G — Google review
awesome place with great support buildings, the beaches are more lake type if your wanting a typical beach experience your going to have an open mind. Best way to try snorkeling for cheap as its less than $5 a person to get in and so you don't waste $50 on a tourist snorkel trip and find out you don't want to snorkel. If they would manicure the beach this would be easily the best cheap beach to go to but its a nature park so it would be wrong for them to do that. Have the kids to expect a lake and they wont be disappointed.
Casey H — Google review
In a state park, you must pay to get in, beaches, small and rocky. You can snorkel but many people have said they really can’t see many fish.
Groggy K — Google review

Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Harry Harris Park, which features various family-friendly activities like fishing and snorkeling. Nice small beach, windy on the day we went and the one hiking path is very short due to previous storm damage.

Good place to access the water. Wouldn't call this a beach as much as a water entrance. The area near the water had an odd smell so we avoided it. The trails/boardwalk were damaged and closed. There are some nice bathrooms and outdoor showers available.
Jeff P — Google review
Good for snorkeling, shallow though and rocky don’t try to go in without sandals or some foot protection.

This is not like a real beach, don’t come here unless you want to snorkel or kayak, that’s about it. If you want a real beach drive somewhere else. Also you have to pay 9$ to park…
Swelpone — Google review
Beach was okay overall. It’s super small I wouldn’t really consider it a “beach” per say. We did not see wildlife unfortunately. The mangrove trail was closed since it was destroyed from the hurricane so be prepared. Beach water wasn’t too cold but it did smell a bit near the water. If your coming for a nice walk then I recommend this place otherwise just go to a bigger beach.

Such a pretty place. We went on Monday afternoon and there were like 3 other people there. Parking was empty. Entrance cost $4.50 for one person, $9 for two, $10 for 4. You only pay for adults. Water was clear. There was some leaves on the sand but it didn't bother anyone. Restroom were really clean and had everything you need.

Clarence S. Higgs Memorial Beach, also known as Higgs Beach, is a laid-back and tranquil spot in Key West. It offers a variety of attractions such as a pier, monuments documenting the site of an 1800s African slave cemetery, Civil War-era fort, off-leash dog areas, historical cemetery, and walking trails. The beach park is popular for weddings with rental options including a white gazebo overlooking the ocean and a romantic birdcage room in the tower.
Plenty of parking and convenient facilities, including clean bathrooms and a small restaurant for quick bites. There’s also a pier, which is great if you want to head out over the water without swimming. Overall, it’s a nice spot to relax, though the water isn’t very clear due to some sediment.
Yong C — Google review
It was good to visit it to say we went. But not for anyone with any kind of leg issues. (I use a cane) The beach is steep, due to them needing to ship sand in from The Bahamas. Because you are in a Key (land made from coral and shells) and not an island. And once you get down the beach, you have to get through the shell and coral. Water shoes are a MUST HAVE! What you bring in, you have to take out with you, there are NO trash cans. Plenty of picnic tables, free to use, and you can rent a beach umbrella and chairs. They also have a pavilion you can a sit under as well as a concession stand for munchies and water/soda. But remember, no trash cans, so if you get a hotdog and drink, you’re taking that trash with you. Also, you are not allowed to have adult beverages, at all.

You SHOULD see it. However, we were there in October. It was dirty, it smells and love them or hate them those chickens are everywhere. Saw a homeless man that I pray was sleeping and also had a great bottle of wine at the restaurant there so 50/50 chance you'll love it.

Sunset Park is a cozy beach located in Key Colony Beach, near Marathon, Florida. Despite its small size and limited amenities, such as bathrooms and picnic tables, the beach offers stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. It's a popular spot for watching the sunset and enjoying a relaxing picnic by the water. While not ideal for swimming, the clean and clear waters make it perfect for unwinding or taking leisurely walks with your dog.
A tiny and peaceful park, if you want peace, this is your kind of park. If you don't make it to Key West to see the sunset, this little place has it. You definitely have to see the sunsets here. The sunsets are stunning! You will be surrounded by mostly locals who are quiet and very welcoming. Loved the sound of the water! 🏝

They have even added picnic tables and a cover tiki hut near the water.

Veterans Memorial Beach, located on Little Duck Key near Bahia Honda State Park, is a charming spot that offers a unique beach experience. While it may not resemble the typical sandy shores found elsewhere, this beach features a rocky area with shallow waters perfect for families and picnics. With pavilions and barbecue grills available, it's an ideal location for outdoor gatherings. The park also accommodates camping enthusiasts who wish to immerse themselves in nature.
Very nice beach near 7 mile bridge. Crystal clear and warm water. It’s pretty shallow (up to your knees) from the shore to about a 100 yards so it’s not good for swimming. The beach itself is very clean and well maintained. Nice that there are some shaded picnic tables. Much better than Smathers’s beach in KW which is over run with seaweed and very smelly.

Indian Key Historic State Park, located in Islamorada, is an 11-acre island accessible only by boat or kayak. The park features the ruins of an 1800s town and offers opportunities for snorkeling around its reefs. Despite a damaged main entrance dock due to a severe storm, visitors can still enjoy the serene island filled with lush plants and historic building remnants.
Indian Key can be accessed by kayak. They used to have a dock but looks like it’s been closed since pandemic. When you go in, make sure to bring money for entrance fee. There is a box to put money in. You can learn interesting history of the Florida Keys and Indian keys. The town of Indian Key thrived during the years of 1821-1840. We had a great family outing at Indian key, exploring beautiful trees, plants and nature.
Amy K — Google review
Took our kayaks out and had the island all to ourselves! Well, besides the iguanas, birds, hermit crabs, and a bunny. We launched from Robbie's and it did not take us much time to get there at all. The island is not very well maintained but that is expected since it is an island with access only for kayaks right now while the dock is under construction. I feel that the remote and abandoned feel to the park adds to my enjoyment of it. Not much sea life that we saw, I'm guessing because water temps were at record highs. The ruins aren't much to look at but the history is interesting. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy solitude and exploring hidden, out-of-the-way places.
Matthew B — Google review
Took a kayak to this island and enjoyed about a hour there. Lots of history to read about on plaques throughout the island. Some remains of homes still there. Seen a person relaxing in a hammock hanging over the water. Might try that next time.
Summer L — Google review
What an amazing place! We kayaked over to the island in about 20 or 30 minutes. We walked around the island and snorkeled around the dock. The water was a bit murky but we saw a ton of fish and a lobster! This was one of the best parts of our vacation. Keep an eye out for low tide or you'll have to work your kayak all the way around to the deep water to return. The sand is super suctiony so wear good water shoes.
Jody R — Google review
Nice little gem between Matecombe Key and Islamorada with dirt trails/roads and a lookout tower. A village once inhabited the island and there are still remnants of buildings from 1840. Very beautiful little key with a lot of rich history. Definitely with a kayaking trip to.
Andrew — Google review
The paddle over to Indian Key Historic State Park is short and enjoyable. The island is small and easy to explore. We had a good time snorkeling along the rocky shore. There wasn’t too much to see in the water but it was a good dip in the ocean. There is also more to explore back on the main key. You can paddle through mangroves and watch as fish swim by.
Chad W — Google review
This is a very short canoe or kayak trip from shore. You do have to cross a channel. Watch for low tide it makes your landing a little harder and muddy. The canoe and kayak landing is on the Southeast corner before the dock. The ruins of the town are interesting but not all that interesting don't expect a lot. Snorkeling around the island is best on the side most facing the Atlantic. There's plenty of coral but not crazy beautiful coral not much sea life mostly just sponge formations. But still nice. A little hard to get in and out of because of rocks just beware of that. A great lunch place is near the well there's a huge shaded area with tree limbs laying low to sit on.

We came over from Islamorada during a family vacation in 2004. My late father had trailered his boat all the way down from Tallahassee and the rest of the family flew into Miami. A great memory. Indian Key, and the fate of Dr. Henry Perrine during the Second Seminole War is well known to locals and lovers of Florida history. Nearby Tea Table Key similarly had a character in Jacob Housman. While the beach is beautiful, it's advisable to wear water shoes due to rocky areas near the shore.
My gorgeous girlfriend and I came by for a beach trip. It’s a state park so it was like 7 bucks to bring our car in. The beach is well taken care of and has a stand where you can get drinks and food and whatnot. The water is nice and they have chairs and umbrellas you can rent. All in all a nice spot. Wonderful Experience at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park This was my first time visiting Fort Zachary Taylor, and I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. The beach is beautiful and well-maintained—just be sure to bring water shoes, as the entry is quite rocky. There are plenty of shaded picnic areas, making it a relaxing and comfortable place to spend the day. Watching the sunset here was absolutely breathtaking. Exploring the historic fort was fascinating and added a unique touch to the experience. Clean bathrooms and plenty of parking were a big plus. Highly recommend this spot if you're in Key West!

I LOVE this place!!! We spent four days in Key West, site seeing, tours, sandbar excursions, you name it, and this state park was the highlight of our trip! We got there super early (at opening) equipped with everything we needed for a fun snorkel day, minus food. Claimed one of the many picnic benches and got to snorkeling immediately. Lots and lots of fish in many varieties! We spent about four good hours in the water before it got crowed with sand being churned. Clean beach area. The snack bar was great too. And best of all, it cost us a whole $8 to get in! If I return to Key West, Fort Zach is my number one reason as to why ❤️

Perfect Family Beach Day! Fort Zachary Taylor Beach is a hidden gem in Key West! It’s the perfect spot for a family day out with kids. The beach is clean, the water is calm, and there’s plenty of shade from the trees for picnicking and relaxing. We especially loved the snorkeling –clear water and lots of fish to see right off the shore! There are also picnic tables, restrooms, and a small café nearby, which made the day super convenient. Highly recommend for families looking for a mix of fun, nature, and relaxation in Key West!

Probably the best location if you’re looking for a “beach” in Key West. We always end up here on our trips down this way. The state park has a daily fee. There’s a rental station for chairs and umbrellas that’s reasonable, you can also rent snorkel equipment. They also have a food building to grab something to snack on if your forget anything, prices are reasonable. The beach was just replenished with sand not long ago however, it’s fairly rocky as you wade into the water, which is why the locals call it rocky beach. It starts getting crowded around 10 or 11 and on holiday weekends. So come early and find a spot, then enjoy the water

Visited this spot in Key West and it was very disappointing -a meh experience. The water wasn’t very clear, and the beach was rocky rather than sandy. Definitely not the idyllic spot we were hoping for. Would not recommend or come back sadly.

This beach is okay. The water not as pretty as I thought in July 2025. Need water shoes def because the rocks will hurt your feet. The food is mediocre. Had the burger and Cuban sandwich. There are lockers to store your items in and a beach area you can rent chairs and umbrellas. They have showers to rinse off.
Amberina M — Google review
Here today, July 6, 2025. Most of the Beach is covered by sargassum seaweed. It also extends into the water. The water looks nice if you can make it past the seaweed. We were talking to one of the attendants and they said that yesterday the beach and the water were pretty clear and then the seaweed came in overnight. The beach would be much nicer without the seaweed, of course. There is a café with covered tables for eating. There’s also bathroom facilities. It costs $39 to rent 2 chairs and an umbrella.

Bahia Honda Key is a serene island in the Florida Keys, home to the Bahia Honda State Park. This virtually uninhabited island offers a tranquil escape for nature enthusiasts. The state park, established in 1961, covers most of the island and boasts one of the deepest natural channels in the Florida Keys. Visitors can enjoy activities such as snorkeling, camping, and kayaking at this picturesque destination.
I love this beach, the park is big enough to enjoy. Beautiful views, a lot of parking close to the beach. I recommend make a left on the intersection after you pass the pay station and go straight to the end of the park, for me is the best area.

If you're in the Keys, this is a must see. It's absolutely gorgeous. I was told it's the only natural NON MAN MADE beach in the Keys. Nature trails with plaques to read while you walk.

Beautiful natural park with beaches and waters to snorkel. Trails to hike and walk also. There is a fee to get in, but it is like 9.00 for 2 people. Changing areas and bathrooms are also available. There is a gift shop and concessions.

Hands down, THE best state park in Florida. The water is breathtakingly beautiful. There are 3 distinct beaches, each of which is different from the others. You can pay to go on the park's snorkel trip out to the reef or snorkel and swim on the beaches at the park. If you're into camping, you can camp on a waterfront site and wake up to beauty every day you're lucky enough to be there. I know there are also rental cabins, but they stay booked up nearly a year in advance. Great gift shop where you can buy unique souvenirs like antique bottles found on the different keys, snorkel gear, history books, sunscreen, drinks and snacks. Bathrooms are scattered throughout the park and freshwater showers at all 3 beaches.

Chance of a lifetime 🤞 bathrooms aren't too bad they could actually vacuum the fans or just leave them turned off gets pretty gross. Overall it's a beautiful park lots of fish parrot fish needlefish nice breeze One Star can't come back, Florida really screwed up maybe they'll change their minds and let the other people and come back. Really makes me feel like a second class citizen 😔....

Smathers Beach, the longest beach in Key West, is bordered by palm trees and runs alongside South Roosevelt Boulevard. It's an ideal destination for families and groups seeking diverse activities. The warm, shallow waters are perfect for exploring marine life, making it a great spot for children and beginner snorkelers to acclimate to using snorkeling gear. While you may not encounter as many fish as at offshore reefs, the beach offers a gentle introduction to snorkeling.
beautiful beach 🤩🇺🇸

While the beach is undeniably beautiful with its stunning views and warm waters, our experience during a visit in late spring (May/June) was unfortunately disappointing. At the time, there was a strong unpleasant odor and an overwhelming amount of seaweed covering much of the shoreline. We had to walk approximately 15–20 yards just to reach a clear area where the children could play comfortably. Additionally, both my wife and son developed severe sand bites and rashes after our visit, and my son fell ill shortly afterward. These health concerns were quite distressing. The public restrooms were also in very poor condition and appeared to be poorly maintained. While the beach may look picturesque in photos, I would caution visitors planning a trip during the May–June period. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend visiting during that time of year.

Seaweed there more often than not, and small beachhead, but it's beautiful regardless.

The area is more famous for its coral reefs, making it a prime destination for diving and snorkeling rather than traditional beach activities.

Fort Jefferson is a historic fortress constructed between 1846 and 1875, with a rich history of use during the Civil War as both a defense post and a prison. Situated on Garden Key, it is an impressive hexagonal structure made of brick and one of the largest of its kind in the western world. Visitors can explore its various levels, including the top walkway offering stunning views of neighboring Bush Key.
We took the Yankee Freedom Ferry to visit Dry Tortugas National Park on a Tuesday in late Dec 2024 (Christmas eve). We went to visitor center to get junior ranger booklets and passport cancellation stamps. They had 4 different stamps, Dry Tortugas NP, Underground railroad freedom, Loggerhead Lighthouse and Garden Key Light House. We purchase some merch in the shop. There were a couple small exhibits in 2 adjoining rooms. There was also a tv playing a video with a bunch of chairs but I don't think I ever saw many people in the visitor center let alone watching the video. When we left we did all our pictures by the National Park sign. There was no one there at this point and we didn't have bunch of people in behind our photos. We returned to complete our junior ranger around noon, snorkeling was first. It wasn't very hard. The answer for cisterns are right outside visitor center to the right and bakery was directly across the fort from the visitor center. We did take some time to hike around and fort but we went fast. We noticed a lot of areas closed off due to falling bricks. The place of Dr. Mudds cell did not look like it did on some older youtube videos I watched. It looked like the park service had closed off the area and made a new brick wall to stop people from going any further. But maybe I'm remembering incorrectly or we didn't actually find it because we were running through so fast. We opted to not joint the large group tour with the ferry and instead do a choose your own adventure to avoid the crowds. People aren't lying then they say 4.5 hrs is not long enough on the island to do everything you want to. Walking on top of the fort can be scary for those afraid of heights. There are no railings and you need to watch younger children who like to run or wander off. My favorite was the light house and the view of bush key from the top of the fort. We probably spent no more than an hour total exploring the fort and I'm sure there was much more to see. We just prioritized the beach and snorkeling. If we visited again we would definitely spend more time exploring the fort itself.
David L — Google review
We visited Fort Jefferson today and it was absolutely incredible. The history of the fort combined with the stunning views of the turquoise waters made for an unforgettable experience. Walking the walls, exploring the tunnels, and taking in the sheer scale of the structure was both fascinating and awe-inspiring. The setting is truly unique—you get history, nature, and some of the best scenery in the Keys all in one stop. Highly recommend this as a must-see if you’re visiting Dry Tortugas.

Beautiful National Park. It’s absolutely a treasure in itself. The fort is breathtaking and the history throughout is so cool. The stair cases in the fort were my favorite. The beach and snorkeling access is cool. I didn’t go too far out but followed the wall of the fort and was able to see many fish and sea creatures. If I had more time on vacation I would have planned to camp there and would go back again. Put this on your bucket list, words can’t describe how cool.
Brittany T — Google review
It's worth the day trip. It's 2 1/2hrs each way...so 5hrs on the water...but worth it. It's a remarkable building and considering where it is, it's very impressive. The beaches around it are beautiful and the snorkeling is worth it!
Mike J — Google review
What an amazing trip. The fort is fantastic and offers amazing photographic opportunities. Snorkeling and beach fun is great with white Sandy beaches and great snorkeling around the walls of the fort. Everyone there goes above and beyond to make your visit as comfortable as possible. It’s an all day adventure that is worth every Penny and offers an unforgettable adventure. Can’t wait to return to do the camping.
Mike D — Google review
What an absolutely amazing experience!!!! I highly recommend taking the seaplane too. I was able to snag a last-minute seat on the 2 pm flight and the ferry was leaving right as we got there, so it was like I had the whole place to myself for the most part! The half day was enough time to see the highlights but I could have spent all day roaming around the fort and another day just snorkeling! Whether you get there by air or by sea, just get there!
Erica D — Google review
So amazing. We did the all day trip. Decided to splurge and take the seaplane. So much quicker than the boat. The fort is huge and you can pretty much go anywhere you want. A lot of history there. Snorkeling is incredible. There is not much shade other than the fort. So bring sunscreen and drink lots of water.

It's a popular hangout for locals, providing an excellent selection of food, drinks, and snorkel gear for a day of fun in the sun. The bar is known for its relaxed atmosphere with shaded tables where locals gather to chat about island life.
Cool little private beach joint. Remnants of an old boat ramp under the sand so don't try to dig to China. Of course it's a little pricey since it's in Key West but it was a nice, relaxing visit. The set-up guy, Jimmy chatted with us for a bit. He looks exactly like a guy from home in IL.

The (small but clean) beach and the scenery here was 5 star by far and we checked out so many spots in Key West! Library Beach Park, located in Islamorada, is a hidden gem that offers a secluded and picturesque coastline. Tucked behind the Islamorada Library, this small sandy beach provides excellent views across the water and is perfect for a peaceful picnic. Visitors can enjoy play equipment, shaded tables, and BBQ facilities while taking in the stunning surroundings. The protected waters are suitable for paddleboarding and kayaking, but swimming may not be ideal due to unpredictable water conditions with reef sharks occasionally spotted nearby.
Very nice, clean playground, our kiddos had so much fun in here! It has a small area to swim, but beware of Crocs. It has clean bathrooms and picnic areas. Free of charge, it is behind the public library, so parking is limited. We love the shady area by the swing set. If you do picnics, it is so cool to watch boats passing by.

Contrary to it's name there's really no beach to talk about. It's now essentially a renovated park with a new kids playground with a small part abutting the chanel at the back. Maybe there was a beach years back but trees have taken over the shoreline.

It’s gorgeous!! The only thing I have to say is please be careful. If you’re kayaking you’ll be fine but if you’re going to snorkel make sure you have something to hit or scare away an alligator or a barracuda with. There’s signs up that says swim at your own risk for a reason. Have fun!

I’m surprised this place was not busier than it was on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. There was only one family there when we arrived. The keys aren’t known for their beaches, so this one was a “public beach” google search. It’s a park with a playground, bathrooms and an outdoor rinse off shower, and a grill or two. There is not a beach in the traditional sense. The park butts up to a little mangrove surrounded tidal creek. The water is clear and clean with an easy access and room to play without getting into the current. I did not see a lot of boat traffic either. There is not a sand beach, but there is a good space of nice green grass to lay your towel on less than ten feet from the water.

The park is home to a rare virgin tropical forest with over a thousand lignum vitae trees, known for their dense wood and medicinal blue flowers. The former hideaway of the island's owner serves as the visitor center.
Amazing experience, wonderful rangers, a unique key experience. We spent just as much time standing on the dock viewing fish and wildlife as we did wandering the key. I had a great time visiting this park via kayak. I had a day off from work so I thought I would explore a part of the Keys I’d never been. The other reviews aren’t great, but you can have a really nice time if you plan ahead a bit. First, call the number on the Park’s web site to get the latest information. Leave a message if they don’t pick up. They will call you back. When you talk to a ranger, see if they will give you the number for the on-island ranger. That way, you can call directly to the island before you head out to set up your tour and also as an extra safety. I did this and had a one-on-one guided tour of the house and trail. Bring plenty of mosquito repellent, long sleeved clothes, and a mosquito net/hood. The kayaking was not too hard, but is two miles each way and you should be in decent shape. There’s a dock on the north side of the island you can use.

Anyone wanting to bring their own food and drink in should seriously head straight for a crowded public beach with less friendly or no staff and leave the rest of us to supporting small local businesses!!
Woody H — Google review
The front desk lady must’ve missed the day they taught basic customer service. Her whole vibe screams “I hate tourists” — or maybe just “I hate my job.” Hard to tell. She gave a loud, unnecessary lecture like we were schoolkids: “No smoking or vaping here — are you going to have a problem with that?” Uh, ma’am, relax. I’m not your child, and this isn’t TSA. Your job is to go over a few rules and take an address, not run a boot camp. But she acts like she’s guarding national secrets. Newsflash: it’s a pool. Chill. This cabana isn’t even nice enough for the attitude. It’s hilarious. The only reason it’s still standing is because most properties around are rental owners and it’s a bonus for guests to use it. If it relied on actual customer loyalty, it’d be toast. I’ll be letting our host know, even though I’m sure the owners and staff are fully aware — they just don’t care and that’s a fact jack. Want proof? Read the other 1-star reviews. Instead of fixing anything, they argue with people and act like everyone’s just wrong about their own experience. That says everything. Avoid this place unless you’re 85 or own property here other than that they don’t want you here lol
Brittany J — Google review
I had trouble getting in as a guest. The gentleman was incredibly rude and tried to tell me there was no membership for the address, which isn't correct. After a phone call to the owner of the property, the issues were resolved, and they were able to find the address. The guys attitude improved, and I was able to enter. It wasn't a welcoming environment. As first impressions go, it wasn't an enjoyable start to the day. The bartender was polite, and the pool was clean. Unfortunately, the food is disappointing. I ordered the nachos they consisted of out of a bag round chips, processed yellow cheese, canned chicken, and jarred salsa. Flavorless and overpriced.

This is a really nice park for kids. There is also a nice dog park here with shade if you are traveling and need to let your dogs or kids out for a break this is a great place to stop. The park is thoughtful and nicely designed. I do wish they had built shade over the play equipment as it gets way too hot to touch it. The swings have shade, and so does a pavilion with tables at it. We did a pit stop here for our toddler around 11:30am in July and some of the equipment was already too hot to touch, but there were still things we could do before hitting the road again.

The 'Ultimate Adventure' package combines snorkeling, parasailing, jet skiing, and kayaking into one action-packed trip.
We took the glass bottom boat tour for the sunset cruise. They took us out to the reef and gave a very informative presentation on the reef and it's inhabitants. We rode on the bow of the boat for the ride to the reef. Awesome! Even better was the return trip. The captain slowed the boat and stayed idling until it was almost completely set. The water wasn't the clearest but they had sent a message beforehand so we could change our reservations if we wanted. The crew was great. The other passengers were friendly and talkative. And the views? Spectacular as only mother nature can provide. It's worth the money!

Dolphins and snorkeling tour were perfect. Lisa is a wonderful captain, we saw many dolphins and the ambiance on the boat was really nice. Ivy, our life guard was very efficient too.

My son and I have finished three different activities, dolphin and snorkeling tour, jet ski tour, and the ultimate adventure tour. What an amazing and fun experience. Booking the different trips was very easy from start to finish. All employees of each adventure was very knowledgeable and nice. It all was perfect for our trip. We definitely will be back!!

Had a blast doing the glass bottom tour the sunset hour. The entire process of getting on the boat to the actual tour was very organized, professional and down right fun. The crew were very polite and very knowledgeable about the area, the crew were also very kind at keeping our minds at ease about the weather and how to avoid motion sickness. The boat itself was very clean and the air conditioning was excellent inside the cabin. The sunset time frame is the one we chose due to it being cooler out and seeing the sunset was beautiful. I highly recommend anyone looking for a fun and educational experience to check them out.

Walking down duval street and came across a Fury excursion stand. My friend and I wanted to rent Jet skis. Unfortunately the last group already went out so we were out of luck. Thankfully they said there was a sunset cruise about to set sail in 30 minutes. It was only a quick 2 blocks down the road near Conch Republic seafood restaurant. Paid about the same we would have for the jet skis. The cruise is 2 hours long and is ABSOLUTELY A MUST FOR ANYONE that visits key west. Just know that Fury isn’t responsible for if the sunset is good or not. That’s Mother Nature. I actually asked staff if anyone has gotten mad at them and they said yes. Hilarious. Anyway, enjoy the pictures. Free drinks and food aboard the cruise as well as live music. Breathtaking!!!

We did commotion on the ocean sunset cruise. We had a great time. The band was all island music with steel drum. Dani made sure we had everything we needed and was super friendly.
David S — Google review
Before taking the trip we read the reviews and decided to go for the rum and ragae cruise! There are some not so great reviews about the snorkeling part! Our trip was cut short for the sunset part due to dangerous weather! Captain rushed us back! This was very disappointing but totally understandable! The crew was great! I’m a Florida native and know our weather is bipolar! The crew did their job! They were very nice and respectful! Me and my adult and teenage daughter had a blast! Yes it sucks the second part we lost but at the end of the day they did their part! For those who are wondering yeah the reef wasn’t the greatest I’ve ever seen ( they can’t control what sea life we will see) but was very nice! There was a decent amount of people ( not crazy) but if you are taking a trip like this on a weekend, holiday or during certain events of course it will be crowded and I see the negative reviews are about that! Well do your research because seriously that’s like going to Disney world during peak time! I purposely booked on a weekday for obvious reasons like that and purposely try not to vacay on weekends and holidays! The captain had a great sense of humor if you don’t like that kind of thing… please stay out of Florida altogether because we don’t want you here if you can’t have fun! Also there are rues and we thrive to protect our reefs! Yes they will get mad if. You don’t follow the rules or endanger yourself because even though you sign a waiver your life matters, and they will do what it takes to get you back safe! I’m giving 5 stars because we had a blast and yes the crew was awesome .Mary was the lady who booked our last minute excursion and was very awesome!!! If you want to have fun and enjoy a nice time out i recommend this company! If you want to be miserable and complain that others come and it’s to crowded stay home !!!! Thank you to Mary and all the crew for a fantastic time!

Great beach! Affordable parking. No other amenities are around, so you'll need a car and bring what you need. I wish it had a no-dog policy. Stop bringing big dogs to public beaches and letting them off-leash! It's so rude and GROSS. Not everyone likes or wants your dog around.
Mindlessbuddha — Google review
Peaceful, Clean, and Great for All Ages! Marathon Community Park is a gem in the Keys! It’s super clean, well-maintained, and has something for everyone—basketball and tennis courts, a skate park, baseball fields, and even a shaded playground for kids. There’s a walking path that’s perfect for a light stroll or jog, and plenty of picnic tables and benches to just relax and enjoy the breeze. I loved how quiet and peaceful it felt, even with kids playing nearby. Bathrooms were surprisingly clean (which is rare!), and there’s ample parking. It’s also pet-friendly, which is a huge bonus. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s a great spot to take a break from the touristy stuff and get a little fresh air and sunshine. Definitely worth a visit!

This is a nice pleasant park with restrooms on sight. There is a fair number of homeless individuals there during daylight hours, though. Participates in holiday themes and fun attractions.

A little jealous! We don't have anything like that in CT. Tennis courts, basketball courts, 2 baseball fields, soccer field, play ground, fitness field and a skateboard park. So cool!! During the holidays everything is lit up in lights. If it wasn't 45 degrees in Florida right now, it would have been even more fun.

The park is a great place to watch the sunset. The environment is clean and quiet. There are many different types of vegetation, including palms. You'll also find crabs and songbirds here.
Very serene and relaxing. No noise. Saw a nurse shark here for the first time, just casually swimming under the dock. Loved this stop on our way back.
Soccergirl2301 — Google review
5 stars for the sunset viewing but really there isn’t much here. What you see is what you get however we stopped here twice to get classic Keys sunset pics. But we were staying in grassy key so it was a great public spot to sit and relax. Just don’t expect to do much but watch the sunset. For us? That was all we needed.

The most amazing sunset I’ve ever seen at this park. The mosquitoes were horrible though. But these photos were worth the aggravation.

Place was hit hard by hurricane IRMA along with all the other Keys. Key West didn’t take a hard hit like you would have expected. But if you can imagine standing in your living room and the water level being above your ceilings this was what those people endured. They will be years recovering from the disaster that has taken entire communities bulldozed away.here are just a few pictures from there to see for yourself.
Paul K — Google review
It's a nice location to watch the sunset from, but calling it a park is a stretch. There's hardly a place to sit and the bugs are rampant. Wear bug spray at all times of day. It would have been great if there was a public peer as well. There are peers in the area, but they're all private.

Nice little spot to sit by the water. Cute pier with a little bench and you could wade in the water if you don't mind the seaweed. My kids loved it there. They picked up a lot of shells.

If you're looking for a safe place to let your dog run around off-leash, Marathon's Dog Park is a great option. The park is divided into two sections - small and large dogs - and includes plenty of trees, benches, and potty stations. As always, be sure to clean up after your pup!
We found this beautiful dog park on 98th St. in the city of Marathon. It’s the biggest enclose fence dog park that I’ve ever seen. It’s almost as big as 1/2 a football field and every dog can play together in that park in a friendly matter. Also, there is a water facility to permit the dog to drink and just on the side of the dog park. There is two fully equipped bathroom. Also this park is near the ocean on the Atlantic side and permit to have a very nice walk to see the sunrise and the sunset in the winter with some many Palapas, where you can sit and enjoy the quiet and relax evening

This is a great area to take your pooch. There is the large fenced in area where your dog can be free to meet and play with others. Or if you rather, take a walk around the track and walk the boardwalk that looks onto the ocean. Also looks like a good fishing spot as well. Fun for the whole family.
Roberta P — Google review
Our pups love this dog park. We love the ocean front tiki huts and walking paths. The view is stunning. It is peaceful, clean and well maintained. One of our favorite spots when we visit the Florida Keys
Jodi R — Google review
Just a plain grass dog park with a fence around it. It gets a 4 star because of the area it’s in and the surrounding waters that the dogs can swim in. So as far as dog parks it’s very limited compared to what I am used to. I didn’t even see a hose or any amenities like that. No dog obstacle course, steps or tunnels, just flat grass. My dogs still had a blast at this park because it was new territory for them to run around in and mark.
R C — Google review
An awesome dog park, but be careful. There are very large iguanas here and snakes. The bathrooms were clean and in good working order, quite a few gazebo's to fish from or picnic in. It is one if the beat parks i have been to in the keys that is very dog friendly. Take your furr budfies here if you drive through.

Yankee Freedom- Dry Tortugas National Park Museum is a must-see destination when visiting the Florida Keys. It's located about 70 miles west of Key West and offers stunning natural beauty, including seven islands and beautiful coral reefs. Visitors can explore the 19th-century Fort Jefferson on Garden Key, the lighthouse at Loggerhead Key, and the Windjammer Wreck. The park is perfect for snorkeling, diving, exploring ancient sites, and sunbathing.
Calm small museum, not too much to see but a nice quick stop when visiting Key West. The girl attending the small exhibit was nice, polite and pretty. She also made a nice drawing that has nothing to do with the exhibit.

I would give 100 Stars if I could! The Yankee Freedom cruise to Dry Tortugas National Park Museum was an amazing experience! My wife and I took the Yankee Freedom for a weekend camping trip, the staff was very helpful and attentive and the boat is spacious, clean and well maintained. if this is on your bucket list, be sure to read the instructions on their website thoroughly. There are only 10 campsites on the island and once the boat leaves in the afternoon, you have the whole island to yourself and a handful of campers. (and a couple park rangers) We explored the whole area and hardly ran into the other campers. (Until a wild storm came through and we took cover under the pavillion for 30 minutes.) Be sure to pack everything you need for your entire trip, there are no stores or vending. We bought a small pup tent and packed a cooler, no issues. They will have campers arrive to the ferry early for a brief orientation. Also, be sure to book in advance to secure a spot. Camping on Dry Tortugas was such an amazing experience! We landed a spot just steps from the ocean. I've never been more relaxed or slept better in my life, just laid back, listening to the waves crashing into the shore. (no cell phone and little to no people, Just peace & serenity.) Exploring the island and Fort Jefferson on our own after the ferry left was a phenomenal adventure. we spent a lot of time walking fort, the break wall and the entire shoreline, I've never seen so many jelly fish in my life. we sat on the mound at the top of the fort wall and had a nice picnic each day. the views were just breathtaking. I would definitely recommend the Yankee Freedom (for a day trip or camping trip) and I can't say enough how incredible our camping trip experience was!! #makingmemories

The second trip on the Yankee Freedom! First was a day trip. The second a weekend camping trip. Camping requires early arrival, staff is friendly and helpful. The camping gear was inspected thoroughly. Pay attention to the instructions on the website. Orientation was short but through. The boat is well maintained and clean. Parking is a couple of blocks away from the terminal for extended stays. Right across the street for day trips. The 2 1/2 hr boat ride was comfortable and Informative both coming and going.

I recently visited the Yankee Freedom- Dry Tortugas National Park Museum and it was truly a great place to visit. The stunning beaches in the area are absolutely beautiful, and the fort located on the island holds immense historic value. One of the highlights of this experience is the option to travel here. I have personally tried both methods, and each offers a unique experience. The seaplane ride was absolutely wonderful and provided a scenic journey to the destination. It was a thrilling experience to soar over the crystal-clear waters, observing the natural beauty from above. The seaplane option is definitely a great choice for those looking for a more thrilling and adventurous way to reach the fort. However, for those who prefer a more relaxed and leisurely journey, taking the boat is also a good option. Although it takes a bit longer to reach the fort, the boat ride offers its own charm. It allows you to soak in the surroundings, enjoy the ocean breeze, and appreciate the journey towards your destination. No matter which method of transportation you choose, once you arrive at the fort, you won't be disappointed. The historical significance of the fort is fascinating and adds an extra layer of intrigue to the visit. Exploring its well-preserved grounds offers a glimpse into the past and provides a deeper understanding of the region's history. Overall, the Yankee Freedom- Dry Tortugas National Park Museum is a must-visit destination. With its breathtaking beaches and captivating fort, it offers something for everyone. Whether you opt for the exhilarating seaplane ride or the more relaxed boat journey, you're in for a memorable experience.

Great ferry service to Dry Tortugas. Be warned there is only one ferry per day for 175 passengers. Tickets are booked weeks in advance even during summer slow season. You may try to go standby and try your luck. Sign up list is brought out at 6:30 at level one by electric car rental stand, but people line up before that. Usually 2 tix free up but sometimes many more. They have one maintenance day a month when ferry does not run. The other option is to go by seaplane or private charter but they are also booked up way in advance.

Anne’s Beach is a hidden gem nestled in the Florida Keys, celebrated for its natural sandy shoreline that stands out among the many manmade beaches in the area. This charming spot offers visitors an authentic beach experience, perfect for those looking to escape the crowds. While you may encounter some seaweed or muddy patches depending on the season, it remains a worthwhile stop on your journey to Key West.
Beautiful secluded little hike along the Atlantic side. Gorgeous.

Nice, chill beach, opportunities to see wildlife… Water can be slightly on the hotter side, so be aware. Parking isn’t super available, but it doesn’t tend to get extremely busy but at the same time have to be aware of limited parking and plan around that. Also plan around extreme heat as of late You may want to have a sunshade for your car as well.
Tony D — Google review
The walkway is well done and really wide. Also the beach side cabanas are well done too and really comfy. But the beach had almost no sand, lots of algae. And the water was soooo hot, more than a jacuzzi. Big jellyfish too (only 1). So being in water it wasn't refreshing
Rodd G — Google review
We stopped at Anne’s Beach on our trip to the keys last weekend. There was a walkable area overlooking the beach with plenty of tables. No one was swimming in the beach, and the park was empty, which we thought was strange for a Saturday. We did get into the water and enjoyed our time there. Be aware that this beach is full of grass and mucky areas, where you’ll be shin deep in what feels like slime. We were able to find some areas with solid sandy ground, but not many. We did see a lot of beautiful fish even at one point a small horseshoe crab, a king conch shell with the mussel inside, both of which we looked at and returned to the ocean.

A frankly embarrassing place, promoted as a beach for reasons I ignore. It's basically a series of small, muddy and smelly bays with a swamp-like coastline. We arrived, checked it out, laughed and cursed those who pointed us in this direction - and then we turned the car back.

Nestled in Marathon, Florida, Jesse Hobbs Park is a delightful retreat that opens its gates from 7:30 am until dusk. This charming park features a sandy playground perfect for children to explore and enjoy. For the older kids or adults looking to shoot some hoops, there’s a well-lit basketball court complete with bleachers and restrooms nearby for convenience.
Nice clean little park There are some very old large Seagrape Trees that throw shade over some of the parking area and part of the children's play/picnic area. A picnic table is conveniently placed right in the shade. Yeah❇️ It is a small park, but has restrooms and a chain link fence protecting the kids from running out into any traffic. My dog, Lilly, likes to walk me past the park at least once per day. Because of that, I can tell you in all honesty that this play are is kept up very well. At least during this spring and summer of 2018. There are various slides and climbing apparatus on the ground. Have fun and remember to bring fresh water, fruits, and toilettes to use. STAY HYDRATED. Note:. During the winter months, the park will be closing at dusk.🌴 If you were helped by this review, please "like." Thanks! 😎

I had both good and bad experiences. One is walking over dog feces to in order to get to the playground. I aware that children may accidentally fall in feces if it's not cleaned up. I be in the area this Sunday for church service next door. Hopefully the children will be able to enjoy the playground before leaving. I will update you, enjoy.

Nice little park for kids. There are two playgrounds and a swing set. The larger playground has a lot of shade, which makes it great. The smaller playground needs some sort of shade because it cooks during the day. The swings also need shade.

I reside closely to Jesse Hobbs park. We take our children daily. The sand is so soft & plush. It has basketball for the older kids, & recreation for toddlers as well. Picnic tables and a public bathroom were added recently to improve the quality of your experience.. I was lucky enough to know Mrs. Hobbs personally as my Asst. Principal throughout my high school setting. What an honor to have a park in her honor.

I would've gave5 stars cause I grew up here but all the money the city of marathon has there's no shade trees compared to the community park which is full of shade trees. The maintenance on this on this park isn't daily nor weekly. To get maintenance you have to find Louis Gonzalez to get it cleaned up. It sucks not to be able to sit under some shade and read my book. When u go to park meeting there's people arguing about dirt on the dog parks than the safety of kids on Jessie Hobbs park its a shame. We waited 15 years for a drinking fountain and bathrooms at this park its ridiculous how its treated so differently from the community park

Long Beach in Big Pine Key is a stunning spot with a breathtaking ocean view and soft sand. It features the remnants of a 100,000-year-old coral reef, making it an intriguing destination for nature enthusiasts. As a berm beach, Long Beach showcases various natural elements like grasses, sea beads, shells, and sponges along the shoreline. While not suitable for swimming, it offers opportunities for exploration such as observing tidal pools during low tide and admiring sea lavender and butterflies.
Long Beach is a berm beach, a collection beach where grasses, sea beads, shells, and even sponges can be seen along the shoreline. This is not a swimming beach. This is an exploring beach. Check out the tidal pools during low tide, walk through the sea lavender and watch for skippers and other butterflies. Enhance your life list with sea and shore birds fishing in the shallows offshore, and relax with a picnic at the high tide line on the coral sand. You might be visited by hermit crabs, or little lizards. It does require a bit of finessing to get through the mudflats behind the beach, but if you have the correct footwear, and a bit of patience (and a good eye for poisonwood) you will get there no problem. Use Google satellite view to spot the best paths through the flats. Watch for deer, raccoon, large egret and pelican tracks in the mud and get a good plant guide to spot saltwort, gumbolimbo or porterweed. This is Refuge land, so removing objects from the beach is prohibited. That said, take all the photos you like. It is especially beautiful at sunrise and amazingly, sunset.
Dougjonna E — Google review
Don't visit. It is private, and you can get there only if you are staying in the RV park in the entrance of the street or if you go to the natural reserve and cross the mud at the end of the walk. The beach is not cleaned and therefore you can find all types of stuff. It is dangerous. You can twist or break your leg easily if trying to enter the water as there are large coral rocks with huge holes that are covered with seagrass. Place must be removed from Maps.
