The Göreme Open Air Museum, formerly known as the Goreme Open Air Museum, is a collection of churches and monasteries carved into volcanic rock during the Middle Ages. Located just a short walk from the modern village of Göreme, this site is easily accessible to visitors.
We visited the Göreme Open-Air Museum with a group of 8 people. Since it was midsummer and the temperature was extremely high, we only stayed for about an hour, especially because our group included elderly members. The site itself is marvelous, especially if you enjoy walking and can spend a few hours exploring. However, I would not recommend visiting during the summer, as the heat is intense and there is very little shade.

This unique museum is an amalgamation of Cappadocia's topology and culture. Tickets are required to visit it. Tickets can be purchased online as well at the spot. The museum has churches, residences etc carved out in the hills. A guide is recommended to understand the history and significance of different structures and paintings. Do wear comfortable shoes and hats as outdoor walking and climbing stairs are required.
Alok A — Google review
Walking into the Göreme Open-Air Museum felt like entering a sacred time capsule carved by faith itself. The air was dry and still, yet it carried echoes of centuries — of prayers whispered in the dark, of monks who once painted the walls with devotion and light. The first sight of those ancient cave churches, carved directly into the soft volcanic rock, took my breath away. From the outside, they looked almost humble, blending seamlessly with the landscape. But stepping inside… it was like crossing into another realm. The interiors exploded with color — vivid frescoes of deep reds, blues, and golds still shining after more than a thousand years. Scenes of Christ, angels, and saints seemed to glow in the dim light, each brushstroke a heartbeat from another era. In the Dark Church (Karanlık Kilise), the silence was profound. Only a faint scent of stone and dust filled the air. Looking up at the perfectly preserved paintings on the domed ceiling, I felt time dissolve. The artistry, the patience, the belief — everything about that moment was humbling. Outside, the valley stretched in golden tones under the Cappadocian sun, while swallows danced over the fairy chimneys. I sat for a while, just watching, trying to absorb the stillness that seemed to connect earth and eternity. Visiting Göreme wasn’t just about exploring history — it was about feeling the soul of a civilization that turned rock into faith, silence into prayer, and isolation into beauty.
Paulo V — Google review
This was the most expensive single ticket we had… and we really wished we had bought the 3 day pass. Do this if you are seeing a lot of sites in 3 days. This site is not large and can easily be done in 1-1.5 hrs. Not much to see inside the cave dwellings. A plus of this site over others is that there are signs describing the rooms. There is not much for why this place had such a strong church relationship. It is not a place where lots of people lived. Good if you are only near goreme for ballooning.
Global E — Google review
Must see in Cappadoccia, and Turkey in general. This is an incredible monastry complex, with some part quite old. The Dark Church is impressive and completely worth the extra 6€. It is also walkable distance from Goreme itself. Aim to go there early before groups arrive. It feels a lot more mystical when you’re the only one there :)
Johan S — Google review
€20 for entry to the museum. It was beautiful to walk around the amazing rock cut churches and chapels. The Dark Church was unfortunately not included in the entry fee and was €6 extra which you do not know until you have paid and are already inside. That was the main reason to go inside so it felt very misleading.
Kate F — Google review
Worth visiting! The cave churches with old paintings and frescos are magnificent. I would recommend to come around 9 am when there are no too many tourist groups.
NF — Google review
Another museum, another expense. To top it off you had to pay another €6 to go into the best chapel in the complex. Not impressed. No photos allowed inside churches but lots of people were taking them. Fortunately guards were in the best to control illegal photos. Info was generally good for this complex.

Hiking area
Pigeon Valley Trailhead East is a picturesque spot in Cappadocia, known for its iconic fairy chimneys and mushroom-shaped rock formations. The area is rich in history, with many of these unique structures being used as homes dating back to the 3rd century. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk amidst the stunning natural scenery and explore the cave churches that are scattered along the trail.
A must do trail. We actually started at the top closer to Uchisar and went towards goreme (so technically the opposite direction). This way we ended in town for lunch, and as you walk down you get beautiful views, and probably make the difficulty slightly less.
Tegan C — Google review
Starting point to walk through Pigeon Valley. Easy walkable, partly need hands to step over some bigger rocks. Awesome place to discover nature apart from the main tourism spots. We met maybe 5 people on the whole track. You can walk back the same way or discover Uchisar, and it's castle on the end of the path. Highly recommended
Tim H — Google review
Hiked this alone today and it was completely safe. Met a few hikers going the opposite direction too so the trail gets some decent traffic. Some parts are slippery with loose sand/stones so wear good shoes and carry some plasters or a first aid kit in case you have an accident. The stray dogs are still in a cave at the midway point but they are nothing to worry about from my observations. On my way out they were sleeping in the cave and didn't even flinch with me walking past. On my way back it was nearing sunset and they were out scavenging for things to eat but even then they minded their own business and did not bark or approach me. You will be fine as long as you leave them be and don't provoke them. They did not seem aggressive at all.
Iftekhar A — Google review
This review is from "Goreme to Pigeon Valley Walk" location and relevant to this place as well as it connects. I can read the previous reviews in this location and people have had similar experience. Becareful!!! There is a group of stray dogs living at a viewpoint. 15-20 minutes from the start point of the walk towards the right. A small black pet dog followed us to the walk from the start. We thought it was ok, but don't let him follow you. He kept peeing at different points to mark his territory. Soon after, the stray dogs came and became aggressive because of the small black dog. They barked at us (8-9 dogs). I thought we could move forward, and it'll be alright, but one of them bit my friend in the leg. We were lucky to be in a group of 6, so we carefully returned while protecting ourselves from the stray dogs. There should be a sign to be aware of stray dogs, and representatives should make sure to protect tourists from this. Also, note that if it wasn't for the small black dog following us and marking territory. The stray dogs would not have come.
Saad H — Google review
This charming trail is easy-medium. It is best to start with if you are in Goreme to get used to the surroundings. You can go all the way to Uchisal Caste if you feel up for it.
Lex E — Google review
If you got some time after watching the balloons and before breakfast, then go for a short hike. One way takes about 30 minutes and offers a nice scenery ready to make a picture from. And, if you are lucky, you will find a friendly dog as companion.
Erik W — Google review
Great trail. Did it in the late morning and there were no crowds. If coming by car, you can try to drive all the way to the end of the road. There is a very tiny parking lot at the end which can fit maybe 5 cars. If there’s no space there is plenty of space along the side of the road leading up to it. No entrance fee. We hiked from Goreme to Uchisar, which took about an hour with some photo stops along the way.
Anne — Google review
It is normally a short trek (less than 1 hour 1 way) from Goreme to Uchisar (near the castle). But in late Feb the trek was muddy, icy, slippery, so quite challenging for amateur trekker like myself. Also there were not many clear directions (arrows, signs; unlike in Red Valley) in the Pigeon Valley when trekked it in late winter. Signs were clear only at beginning and end of route. The view was superb.

Red Valley ATV offers a unique and breathtaking experience, especially during the evening when the setting sun transforms the soft red formations into a mesmerizing sea of fire. The ATV tour provides an amazing adventure, with helpful staff who ensure convenience by providing hotel pick-up and drop-off. While some visitors found the tour to be crowded and dusty, others enjoyed driving through the valley despite the rain.
Stunning and an Indiana-Jones type journey if you go.to Red/Rose Valley via the Sword Valley which works for adults but also for children. In thia trail you have to navigate in really narrow and steep wodden and iron stairs in absolutely stunning narrow gorge that you see rarely anybody taking even when you are still in one of the most heavily touristy place in the world! The key to finding thia route is to take the right turn from the exit on the right of Goreme Open Air Museum, from the top of the road. There is a big instruction plate on the right of the asphalt rpad but the plate can hardly be read. We followed an All Trail app trail tp fins this entry to the route and not to get lost - it was absolutely unexpected what we found, a very adventourous journey well worth taking!
Jeta X — Google review
Red Valley ATV: An Adrenaline-Fueled Adventure Through Cappadocia's Otherworldly Landscape Buckle up for an unforgettable adventure! Red Valley ATV in Cappadocia, Turkey, is more than just your typical off-road ride. It's a heart-pounding journey through a landscape sculpted by millions of years of nature's handiwork. Red Hot and Ready to Roll: The star of the show is, of course, the Red Valley itself. The volcanic soil here paints the landscape a fiery red, especially at sunset, creating a truly otherworldly backdrop for your ATV adventure. As you navigate the dusty trails, prepare to be awestruck by the towering fairy chimneys, hoodoos standing sentinel over the valley floor. Thrills with a View: The tour itself is a perfect blend of excitement and sightseeing. You'll get behind the wheel of your own ATV (or share with a friend) and follow a guide on a pre-determined route. The pace keeps things interesting, with sections that allow you to open it up a bit and feel the rush of adrenaline, balanced with slower sections where you can soak in the scenery. Beyond the Red: The beauty of the Red Valley ATV tour is that it takes you beyond just the Red Valley itself. Depending on the tour you choose, you might also wind your way through other Cappadocia gems like the Rose Valley, with its blush-colored cliffs, or Love Valley, famous for its phallic-shaped rock formations (ahem, interesting photo opportunity!). Geared Up for Fun: Safety is a priority here. The tour operators provide helmets, goggles, and any other necessary gear to keep you protected. They'll also give you a quick safety briefing before setting off, ensuring everyone is comfortable and confident on their ATV. Here are some things to keep in mind: Be Adventure Ready: This is an off-road adventure, so expect a bumpy ride and some dust. Dress accordingly in comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes. Experience Matters: While no prior ATV experience is necessary, some tours might be better suited for more experienced riders. Check with the operator beforehand. Capture the Moment: Don't forget your camera! The scenery is begging to be photographed, and you'll definitely want to capture memories of your thrilling ride. Overall, Red Valley ATV is a fantastic way to experience the unique wonders of Cappadocia. It's perfect for adventure seekers, nature lovers, and anyone who wants to add a dose of excitement to their Cappadocia itinerary.

Great place to watch sunset at Red Valley. Went there during ATV tour. It was the last stop of the tour riding ATV. It was just pure grandeur of a scenery at sunset. A must do when going to Cappadocia!
Joash J — Google review
Amazing experience. Don’t forget to bring sunglasses, mask or bandana to cover face, covering clothes and boots instead of sandals. There will be lots of dust and bright sunlight. ATV was quite easy to drive, if you can drive motorcycle or car there will no problem. The staffs were super helpful. They picked us up from hotel and helped throughout the trip and dropped off at the hotel, which was super convenient. Thanks to the team.

Balloon ATV Horse riding Beautiful valley Sunrise is beautiful Winds decide the balloons so keep in touch with the booking person
Fahad S — Google review
Was an ok atv tour. For the trail conditions there were too many atvs in a line kicking up too much dust. It is a cheaper tour so you do get what you pay for. The woman behind us hit the back of our atv 3 separate times instead of stopping with her breaks. Oh and someone got stabbed at the end sunset part where there was just too many people for my liking. I’d suggest a more private tour for sure but for 30 or so euro it was worth it.
Thomas R — Google review
A must do when in cappadocia, and recommend doing at sunset! I didn't get to because of timing but can only imagine the reflection on the valley because without it, it was breathtaking! You see tons of beautiful valleys and cappadocia landscape, a great quick alternative if you don't have time to actually hike.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Dark Church, also known as Karanlik Kilise, is a rock-carved structure located in the Goreme Open Air Museum. It features vibrant frescoes and vaulted ceilings that depict scenes such as The Birth, The Baptism, The Last Supper, and The Crucifixion. This church receives very little light due to its small window in the Narthex part, which has helped preserve the vividness of its frescoes over time.
It's an extra 6 euro on top of the 20 euro admission to the open air museum. However, it has really complete and beautiful frescos. It is not allowed to take pictures inside and there is an attendant who monitors this.
N M — Google review
Beautiful place. Like all other spots in this Open Air Museum. Must see
Grzegorz K — Google review
Amazing place, the frescos inside are so interesting. Definitely worth the extra price, if you are resident you csn get a discount with the museum yearly card
Reyes O — Google review
This review is not about the site, wich is beautiful and of great historical significance. This is about the person guarding the inside of the dark church on the 14th of May 2025 at 2pm He is there mainly not to allow visitors to take pictures, fair enough. The problem is he was talking to a Turkish visitor who, whilst chatting to him was touching the frescos and then looking at his hands to see if they were stained. The guard didn't ask him to stop. He was unfazed by the whole thing. I would like to direct the question directly to this guard, that's why I have indicated the date and time: Is this how you look after a world heritage property? You don't deserve holding that job
Francisco C — Google review
You paid 20€ for the open air museum and an extra 6€ for this “dark church”. It’s nice but small, it took less than a minute to see it. I regretted it.
Ya-Pei L — Google review
Had such a wonderful time in this dark church. The paintings of Jesus were amazing - felt as if I were traveling back in time🙏. And as other reviews mentioned, I also noticed the guard at the door was not friendly toward foreigners.
GK L — Google review
Very disappointed and tourist practices. You pay 30euro a ticket to enter the open air museum assuming you will see everything and then you get to the dark church and it’s hidden by a pay wall, you gotta pay an extra 6euro to enter. Pay to win rubbish.
Ruan O — Google review
Do not pay… keep walking and you will find other stairs with another church which is almost the same so it’s not worth to pay. This should be included in the already 20 euro entrance fee

Hiking area
Love Valley, also known as the Ihlara Valley, is a stunning canyon formed by volcanic activity and erosion over thousands of years. Stretching about 10 km with a depth of 100 meters, it served as a rocky settlement for monasteries from the 4th to 13th centuries. Located in Goreme, its unique rock formations have earned it the nickname 'Love Valley,' featuring phallic-shaped structures that add an element of humor to the natural beauty.
An excellent place to hike. The trail is generally straight forward but there are a few forks that split off and generally meet back. The lower trail has the best grade for walking. Also, you need to watch your footing when walking over loose earth in places. However, it's totally worth the amazing views and a nice break from the crowds (we rarely encountered other hikers).
Eric M — Google review
It was my last day in Goreme and I decided to go on a ATV Tour. This tour generally costs 20 Euros for 2 hours and they cover three valleys - Love Valley, Rose/Red Valley, Sword Valley. I found this tour totally worth it. If you have more time in hand, you can go for a trekking along these valleys as well which can take 6-8 hours. All these valleys are pretty nice and beautiful. On top of that riding ATV through these valleys was a pretty unique and interesting experience. Love valley has unique formations which looks like male reproductive part and hence the name as love valley. Couples do tie up clay pots here as a belief that will make their love stay forever.
VIPUL T — Google review
Impressive walking trail through Love Valley in the area between Uchisar and Goreme. We combined with the trail through Pigeon Valley along with a visit to Uchisar Castle for a long 11.5km loop trail starting and ending at Goreme. Great day out!
Brad — Google review
Amazing spot to see the balloons show. Tip: Get there around 6 am or even early. depending on how the weather is. It's not allowed to fly drones when the balloons are in the air, but it's a great spot for it. Around 7:30, almost all the balloons will be landed or about to land.
Erik L — Google review
Walk from Üçhisar — the view and walking path are amazing. You’ll hardly see any other tourists there, since most of them enter Love Valley from the other side, which is closer and easier. After about a two-hour walk, you’ll reach Love Valley.
Guliaim A — Google review
Amazing rock formations and wonderful views. We hiked through the valley. Good footwear is a must as some parts are uneven. Please take your rubbish home and keep this beautiful area clean for all to enjoy.
Helen M — Google review
It takes around 30 minutes at a slow pace to reach the middle of these 'love' rocks 🫶 The hike is easy as it is mainly flat. This location is at the main entry of the path. Come to it where you see a stone with some writing in Turkish and you're at the right place. You can park for free anywhere around the entry.

Pigeon Valley in Cappadocia offers a less crowded entrance through Goreme, allowing visitors to fully explore the valley without a car or organized tour. The valley provides stunning views of Uchisar Castle and is best experienced from Aza Cave Hotel, offering prime vantage points for watching hot air balloons at sunrise and sunset. While the hiking trip presents some challenges with tricky and slippery paths, it rewards hikers with breathtaking canyon views.
It is a short hike about one to one and half hours. I went at the end of June, the orchards of plum, apricots, cherries, and mulberries were ripe and ready to pluck. The walk was through a quiet valley, the stream was flowing through the path, and there were small tunnels to cross through.
S. Z — Google review
There are still people living in the rock caves, you can meet them. It's perfect for hiking between Goreme and Uchisar. The entire hiking trail extends to the south of Uchisar, so it says it takes 3.5 hours, but if you go to Uchisar Castle, it takes about 1 hour. Goreme is lower, so it's easier to go from Uchisar to Goreme. If you're taking a bus on either the way there or back, I recommend taking the bus from Goreme to Uchisar. The hiking trail is full of spectacular views, so you can enjoy the scenery without being rushed around by a tour.
Sean Y — Google review
Lucky for us to visit in snow fall, what a wonder full of the valley in this condition. We came from small access that does not require ticket.
Nguyen K — Google review
Loved this hike. It was a little hard to initially find the trail from the Uchisar castle. There is a faded sign in Turkish but once you start the hike, it is awesome. Great views and the hike is pretty easy to navigate. 4kms or so and mostly flat. Recommend wearing sneakers or something with grip as the small gravel makes walking slippery.

Turkish restaurant
Dibek Restaurant is a renowned dining establishment situated in the charming town of Goreme, nestled within Turkey's captivating Cappadocia region. This restaurant has garnered acclaim for its superb culinary offerings, inviting ambiance, and traditional embellishments, making it an essential stop for epicureans and explorers alike. The menu at Dibek draws inspiration from authentic Anatolian cuisine, showcasing an array of dishes crafted with locally procured ingredients and time-honored cooking methods.
This was the first restaurant we tried in Goreme and there are plenty! What we loved most about it was how relaxed and comfortable we felt there especially after a length drive from Ankara. We opted for one of the floor tables that was surrounded by cushions to sit on and was comfortable, we probably could of slept there.. lol We like to play cards when we go for dinner and the boys loved sitting on the floor cusions too, was different to the usual.. Menu selection was good, mainly local dishes but a decent variety of them and the price was reasonable, it is a tourist town so a little more expensive then other cities in Turkey. We also got some warm mulled wine which was lovely, could have had plenty more of that! The Staff was attentive and polite. The food came out in a reasonable time and all together (the large peppers are quite spicy!) and the atmosphere in there was lovely too, nice background local music and the general hum of a relaxing restaurant. Went to this restaurant for the Clay Pot (which you have to book on reservation). Very cosy place in an ancient building that used to be a stables. You sit on very comfortable floor cushions. Food was good and efficient service.

Absolutely obsessed with this place! 🇹🇷✨ The food tastes like true homemade Turkish cooking—fresh, authentic, and full of flavor. From the warm bread and meze to the perfectly grilled meats, every dish was a delight. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the hospitality made me feel right at home. A real gem for anyone who loves traditional Turkish food!

We stayed in Gerome for 3 days and choose to come here for dinner twice as the food tasted better than the other restaurants in the town. we came during low season (end October and wasn’t crowded) and didn’t need to make reservation. Although I think it is recommended esp if you want to eat the pottery kebab The food is great (worthwhile mention: pastrami humus, pottery kebab and rice that came with it). service is great. It is pricey but inline with all other restaurants we had in Gerome.
Jack — Google review
We ate the meat and chicken pottery kebabs, and they were tasty, good sized portions. We also got bread with pickled sides. The dessert was yummy too. Great atmosphere and experience.
Lauren C — Google review
The restaurant was recommended by our hotel as being the only one in town where they actually cook the pottery kebab in the clay pot rather than pre-cooking it in a different dish and simply serving it in the clay pot. While I haven't seen them cook the kebab, the fact that you have to pre-order the day before for a specific time makes me trust that claim (in other restaurants the pottery kebab was served 10 minutes after ordering). We really enjoyed the taste of both the vegetarian and the beef kebab and it was definitely better than in some other places. We also got complementary salad, pickled veg, and red cabbage, making the slightly high price more reasonable. I also liked the cave interior with cushions to sit on the floor. I can also recommend the house wine from Cappadocia.

The food was fabulous. Love the Testi Kebab (pottery) The beef was amazing. The service was great. Definitely recommend.
Terry H — Google review
Overall food is good and the experience is authentic. The appetizer was cold inside so not everything is fresh but recommended to try the pottery kebab.

Coffeedocia is a charming breakfast spot conveniently located near the Goreme bus station. The cafe offers a lovely outdoor patio where you can relax and enjoy great wine, excellent service, and delicious baklava. The staff is friendly and accommodating, even offering blankets for a hot air balloon trip. With a nice selection of food, including tasty cheese mushrooms, this cafe is worth trying out. Additionally, it provides WiFi and restroom facilities for added convenience.
From Pakistan. Especially for Pakistani people who visit Cappodocia. Do come here. It is not very expensive as compared to others and food is good also sheesha is very good here. We ordered Alfredo and chicken Quesadilla and everything was very good. Must try. We also ordered Cheesecake, Mojito and Kiwi drink which were also very good. Do visit here.

I ordered a pizza but it was very bland and the toppings didn’t have much taste to it except for the sauce and the cheese. Also the pizza was burned around the sides. I wouldn’t recommend.

Nice selection of food and the cheese mushrooms were so delicious we ordered twice. Close to bus station which is great. Staff is friendly but a bit inattentive sometimes… Wifi and WC is available which is plus. Give this place a try. Hookah also available
PPN — Google review
Average dining experience. Perhaps we just caught them on a bad night but there were only 2 staff and so many things on the menu were not in stock. The sahlep was average. The baklava and kunafa were not very fresh. They have an extremely pretty outdoor seating area but they do not have heaters so in the colder months you can’t even use it.
Imraan M — Google review
Aesthetically pleasant place with good options for food and beverages. I passed this place mistaking it for Just-coffee place previous morning as I was hungry and wanted a full blown meal. Today went for coffee and discovered that there menu has lot more to offer than coffee. And to top it all, they have nice cushioned variety of couches and chairs to choose as per your convenience. Enough indoor and outdoor seating is a bonus.

Just dropping by to this restaurant, having a huge space outside, greenery turf. Ordered one Ayran and Quinoa Hummus, surprised me is huge bowl, cant even finish. Dish is delicious, taste was great 🤤 Later i will recommend this dish to my friend.

It was tasty and service was good too. Prices were decent considering this a tourist area. Probably the best choice for breakfast in Göreme.

Great wine, excellent service, and probably the best baklava I’ve ever had in my life. The staff were so kind and friendly that we went back for breakfast the next morning — really appreciated them offering to lend us blankets for our hot air balloon trip! Cheeses were delicious 🤤 Super cute patio! Thanks!

Göreme Sunset Point offers a breathtaking view of the city, making it an ideal spot to witness the sunset. Whether you choose to drive or hike up, the effort is well worth it as you'll be rewarded with a stunning panoramic view of Göreme and its surroundings. This location is perfect for observing hot air balloon rides at sunrise as well.
Absolutely the best spot in Göreme to watch the hot air balloons rise with the sun. The views are surreal — hundreds of colorful balloons floating over the unique landscape is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Make sure to get there by 5:00 AM at the latest to catch the full spectacle from the start. It’s peaceful, breathtaking, and pure magic. Don’t miss it!
Tareq T — Google review
Nice spot. Have to pay an admission ticket to enter however. It's likely best to visit when the balloons are up. The area isn't that large but expect an uphill walk if you're walking here from the city.
Tarek K — Google review
Definitely visit this spot for a great view of the city during sunrise and the balloons all flying over it. It does get a bit crowded during peak tourist season but there's enough of a view for everyone. As of September 2025, you have to pay a 30TRY entrance fee but expect it to be higher the next time you visit. Still worth a visit, especially since it's pretty much the only closest sunrise point that you can reach by walk.
Vivek M — Google review
It’s a must go place. Come in the morning at least 10 minutes before sunrise. You’ll see magnificent view of the balloons with sunshine. The valley has beautiful color too. Need to pay 30 lira each person to enter in the morning. Evening you can enjoy the light view. The feel is different. We came around 7:30pm and didn’t pay for the ticket.
Shuang — Google review
An incredible view point to witness the balloons at sunrise. Amazing photo opportunities. The sky continued changing for a while after sunrise so I suggest staying until the sun is above the horizon to witness it in its many different beauties.
Kate F — Google review
This spot is one of the high points of the town, perfect for watching hot air balloons as well as sunrise and sunset. There is an entrance fee of 30 TL per person. I’d recommend bringing your own drinks, as the ones sold at the top are extremely overpriced — about 300% more expensive.
Edward D — Google review
You must visit here if you can wake up early! It was mesmerizing view when all hot air balloons were flying. I am jealous that people who live here are able to see this every time haha
Kira — Google review
A unique place to appreciate Gerome at night, entrance fee 30Lr per head. Close to town center, about 10-25 upslope and you are there. For sun rise and balloons, there are many alternatives and this is just one of the options.

Rose Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in Cappadocia, offering great hiking opportunities and stunning views. It features several old churches carved into the tufa rock, accessible to everyone. The valley is known for its unique streaks of orange, red, pink, and white rock formations that compete for attention.
The natural scenery is fantastic combined with the history of the rock dwellings we were blown away. Hiked an AllTrails circuit by hooking up from Kaya Campground maybe 6 miles all in. Besides the $10 orange juice (which we enjoyed) there was nothing bad about this trip. The trail got pretty slippery after the Thunderstorm but we loved it.

Red/Rose valley has unique formations with red color and hence the name as red valley.
VIPUL T — Google review
Rose Valley was a great hike in Cappadocia, not to difficult either. You can choose to climb up rocks and hills to achieve better views and make it more exciting but it’s not essential. It’s amazing to see all the carvings and dwellings in the rocks, some of them are very high and makes you wonder how they managed to create these all them years ago! Most of of the dwellings are off limits but there are some you can get into and have a look around. Amazing to see some that have 2 stories and carved out stairs between the 2 floors, can only imagine how long it must have taken to make them.. It’s a 2/3 hour hike hike so manage your time, we were luck to get it just right and catch the sunset right at the end which was beautiful! We travelled with 2 boys aged 8 and 10 and they enjoyed it very much. There is also a small shop selling refreshments about half way through but I'd still suggest taking your own water, the shop just pops up when you think you are in the middle of nowhere!! (See Pics) We enjoyed this hike, no need to do it again but would recommend if your in Cappadocia! We decided to go it on our own, no tour guide and was reasonably straight forward, there are a few valleys and if you plan to visit more then 1 I’d suggest a guide.
The R — Google review
We did a 2h hike in the rose valley. Beautiful place. There is an immense church on the way that worth to be visited. The 3 cross church is nice as well. The landscape simply beautiful l. Bring good shoes the path is slippery sometimes due to the dust. As well as cash as there is a bar (with WC) half way where you can get refreshments. We did the hike with a guide from our hotel. There is a lot of path to follow, it can be complicated if you don't know your way.

Cappadocia is truly a breathtaking destination in Turkey. The natural landscape is unique and stunning, with valleys, fairy chimneys, and rock formations you won’t find anywhere else. The hot air balloon ride at sunrise is an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience watching the sun rise over Cappadocia from above is simply magical. There are also many historical sites to explore, including underground cities, ancient churches, and open-air museums. The atmosphere is peaceful, the locals are friendly, and the cave hotels offer a unique and cozy stay. Cappadocia is perfect for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a romantic or memorable travel experience. A must-visit in Turkey!
Muhammad F — Google review
Rose Valley is one of several valleys just to the east of Goreme where you can hike through lunar like landscape with unique rock and land formations including the famous Fairy Chimneys of Cappadocia. You will see numerous carved rooms, old homes and churches some of which are very impressive. We particularly enjoyed the Cross (also called Crusader) Church. You can walk through Rose Valley by way of taxi drop off at the main hot-air balloon launch spot or by foot from Goreme. There are numerous hiking trails through the valley, we completed a roughly 15km walk loop trail linking Rose with Red Valley while starting and ending our walk from the Goreme town centre. Hiking leisurely we spent just over 5 hours making our way through the two valleys on the day. There are several make-shift juice stands, particularly in Red Valley, where you can stop for a rest and orange and pomegranate juice break. They sell water as well if you need a top up during your hike. On the whole, we really enjoyed our time spent in Rose Valley and would gladly hike this area of Cappadocia again next time we visit this area in Turkey.

Göreme Panorama View is a must-visit spot in the enchanting town of Göreme, nestled within Turkey's captivating Cappadocia region. This viewpoint offers visitors an incredible opportunity to soak in sweeping vistas of the town and its stunning surroundings, characterized by unique rock formations that define this magical landscape. Easily accessible by foot or car, with convenient parking available at the top, it serves as a perfect starting point for exploring the area.
This was one of the most unforgettable spots in our Türkiye trip. We came here before sunrise and watched dozens of hot air balloons drift above the rock valleys — quiet, timeless, and completely surreal. We also did a personal photoshoot here, bringing a vintage VW camper van and styling the scene with local Turkish rugs. The landscape did the rest — sculpted rocks, wide sky, and a kind of silence that feels cinematic. Even if you're not planning a shoot, this viewpoint is worth the early wake-up. It’s more than a place to take photos — it’s where Cappadocia reveals itself in full. Romantic, raw, and unforgettable.

Goreme, a pleasant village immersed in a surreal landscape. Here the inhabitants still live in fairy chimneys that are increasingly being transformed into hotels, restaurants and places suitable for welcoming the many tourists who visit this charming region. One of the most interesting attractions is undoubtedly the possibility of visiting the valleys by flying in a hot air balloon. The flight is a bit expensive, but it is worth every euro
Gyoza P — Google review
The Göreme Panorama Viewpoint is located on the road to Uchisar just to the west of the town. It is at an elevated position and there is plenty of parking space for tour groups and independent drivers to pullover and enjoy the lovely views of Göreme along with Rose, Red and Sword Valleys in the distance to the west. You can also see Pigeon Valley to the south and Uchisar to the southwest.

Göreme Panorama View in Cappadocia offers one of the most breathtaking vistas in the region. From this vantage point, you can see the fairy chimneys, rock formations, and the town of Göreme spread across the valley below. If Cappadocia had a heartbeat, Göreme Panorama View would be its gentle pulse—steady, surreal, and soul-stirring. Love Valley in Cappadocia is a truly enchanting destination that captures the heart and soul of every visitor. Known for its stunning, surreal rock formations, this valley offers an atmosphere of tranquility that feels almost timeless. The experience is heightened by breathtaking views, especially at sunrise when colorful hot air balloons fill the sky—a sight you won't soon forget. For those who love hiking, Love Valley pairs beautifully with Rose Valley as one of the top trekking spots in the region.
It's hard not to love a place called love valley. I made a solo walk at a time called golden hour. The sun was falling and I was skeptical if this would be the place to talk so close to night. I'm glad I did. It was peaceful. A very flat and easy path to navigate and anyone that appreciates a view and nature walk will feel something special. You can see a city in the distance lit up towards the night and it's very serene. I would bring water and snacks with you if you're a person that likes to take breaks. Good shoes is a must. You'll enjoy the scene. I would rent or take a day trip via a car if you are someone that needs the support.
Deepak S — Google review
🌟🌟🌟🌟 Love Valley – A Dreamlike Place, Full of Emotion and Natural Wonder Love Valley was one of the most magical places I’ve ever been to—and it will forever hold a place in my heart, because it’s where I proposed to the love of my life. The landscape is unlike anywhere else: surreal rock formations, soft evening light, and a quiet sense of peace that makes you feel like time has stopped. We arrived early to catch the sunrise balloons drifting in the sky—a truly unforgettable sight. Seeing the colorful hot air balloons floating silently above the valley adds something out of a fairytale. Later in the day, we watched the sunset, and it felt like the whole sky paused with us in that moment. But, I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5, for one reason: the road leading to the valley is in really poor condition. It’s not paved, it’s dusty, and with the number of tourists visiting in August, it becomes chaotic. They should improve access to such a beautiful and important location. Still, if you’re in Cappadocia—do not miss this place. Whether you're planning a proposal, a romantic walk, or just want to feel the raw beauty of nature, Love Valley is the perfect spot.
Grigorios K — Google review
Love Valley is situated just north of Goreme and can be used to walk between Uchisar and Goreme. You can also combine with visits to Uchisar and Pigeon Valley for a longer loop trail (roughly 11-12km) but best to have hiking map apps to plot your route and manage your overall walking distance as there are many splinter trails and enticing spots to wander around throughout. Love Valley has spectacular landscape and makes for a very nice place to hike through a vegetation rich valley with loads of grape producing plants, trees, shrubs. You will see numerous carved homes and storage rooms in the cliffs and rock formations and nearer to the Goreme end of the trail some of the finest Fairy Chimney rock formations in Cappadocia. These make for incredible photographs when viewed with blue sky conditions in the background. We very much enjoyed our hike through Love Valley. The scenery is very impressive, the trail not particularly difficult although rather long if combining with Pigeon Valley and Uchisar. So prepare with adequate water, snacks, sunscreen, hat and proper footwear if considering the longer 1/2 to 3/4 day hike through both valleys.
Brad — Google review
The first part of the Valley (when you start from the parking near Goreme road and not Uchisar(!)) must be seen through the stone "arrows", then after 2 km towards Uchisar, the Love valley will become The White Valley as the stone phallus will melt in white waves of stone. The main path is like beach sand so be careful what are you wearing in your feet. Cap and water stock are mandatory. No tickets, no parking fees.
Dan C — Google review
Love Valley, together with Rose Valley, is one of the absolute hiking highlights in Cappadocia. From above, you have a fantastic view – although a parking fee is required. This viewpoint is also known as Sunset Point, and early in the morning you can see countless hot air balloons floating over the valley. A truly spectacular sight! We, however, wanted to hike inside the valley itself. At first, this was a bit tricky, since the trails are not well signposted. After some searching, we found the entrance. You simply turn off the main road (more or less by instinct) and drive along a rocky path to reach an improvised parking area in the valley. From there, you can start walking directly. Experiencing the fairy chimneys and the fascinating rock formations up close is absolutely amazing. That’s why my recommendation is: don’t just enjoy the view from above – make sure to go down into the valley and hike. It’s definitely worth it!
Marketa ( — Google review
We visited this valley as part of a tour package arranged by our hotel. It was just okay overall, especially since our hotel already had a very similar view. The area here was a bit cleaner and there were options for horse riding and souvenirs, but nothing particularly unique beyond that.

Sword Valley, located just over 4 km from Goreme in Cappadocia, offers a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding area. The valley is full of cave dwellings and unique rock formations, making it a great spot for hiking and exploring. It's recommended to visit at sunrise to witness the epic golden hour and watch hot air balloons flying overhead.
Absolutely stunning landscape — unique rock formations and peaceful hiking trails. A great place to catch the sunrise or just wander around in nature. Magical atmosphere, especially with hot air balloons in the sky!

Probably the easiest hike in Cappadocia 😊 yet just as beautiful as the other ones! Not 100% sure where exactly is the start, we began the hike where Google pin took us, but it looked like we could have gone in further out to start. 4 out of 5 stars, only because it’s also one of those spots that all the ATV, horses and other tours are going through as well, so depending on the season and a month, and the hour you’re there at, it can get quite loud - especially with the ATVs. Good spot for the sunset pictures though! 📸 with the ATVs creating all the dust around and the sunset - the pictures are coming out quite neat 😍 If you don’t feel or can’t go for a more challenging walk, but you would like to get a better feel and a look at the beautiful rock formation and the Cappadocia landscape, this one would be for you 🙏

Sword valley has unique formations which resembles like a sword and hence the name as sword valley.

We visited Sword Valley in Cappadocia as part of an ATV tour, and it was one of the highlights of our trip! Riding through the rugged trails with the wind in our face and the stunning rock formations around us was unforgettable. The valley itself is beautiful and peaceful, with unique “sword-like” fairy chimneys and hidden cave churches that give you a glimpse into the region’s rich history. It’s less crowded than some of the more famous valleys, which made the experience feel more personal and special. Highly recommend doing this on an ATV for the adventure and views—especially at sunset when the whole valley glows!

This is the valley situated between Rose and Red Valley and the Goreme Open Air Museum. You will find nice examples of the famous Fairy Chimney land formations here as well as church and rooms carved out of the tuff rock inside the valley. We found the ravine in Swords Valley forming into a narrow slot canyon which you can walk through, one at a time for around 100 metres. This was really neat, an unexpected surprise just next to Goreme. Really enjoyed our time exploring Swords Valley and then walking back into town for dinner.

Sword Valley is one of those little known places around Goreme. It isn’t showing up in many of the touristy books or online. It’s me this makes it more interesting and a better place to hike because you avoid the crowds.

Göreme National Park, situated in the volcanic region between Hasan Mountain and Erciyes Mountain, boasts a diverse landscape of plateaus, plains, hills, valleys, and eroded formations. The area is renowned for its rock-hewn sanctuaries showcasing unique Byzantine art from the post-iconoclastic period. Visitors can explore dwellings, troglodyte villages, underground towns dating back to the 4th century, and remnants of traditional human habitats.
Land of beautiful horses. As a local tourist, it was my 4th time visit to cappadocia. You should definitely see goreme national park. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site surrounding the town of Göreme in the region of Cappadocia. In addition to Göreme where you find homes, hotels and restaurants carved into the unique rock and landscape, there are several valleys that you can hike through, seeing ancient cave homes, churches dating back to the Byzantine era and other structures alongside the unique Fairy Chimneys and at times lunar landscapes. Most are free to access and explore in addition to the protected (free entry) Open Air Museum of Goreme. There are numerous viewpoints, endless unique scenery and hot-air balloons that dot the sky first thing each morning. We very much enjoyed several days exploring the Göreme National Park and greatly look forward to returning to spend more time in this unique UNESCO area as well as other locations around Cappadocia in the future.

I was very much interested about early Christians and how Christianity grew till the 3 rd century. I can tell you that it’s just awesome. Anyone interested in church history, it’s a must visit place. The temperature when we visited there was cold but I could go through the various places. It’s a must visit place.

Great place in cappadocia, you cannot miss it when visiting the region. Alongside the road from Göreme to Uchisar there are many cafes with shops and great views to the valley. From Wikipedia: Göreme (Turkish: [ɟœˈɾeme]; Ancient Greek: Κόραμα, romanized: Kòrama), located among the "fairy chimney" rock formations, is a town in Cappadocia, a historical region of Turkey. It is in the Nevşehir Province in Central Anatolia and has a population of around 2,000 people.

you've got these bizarre rock formations, we're talking about towering spires and mushroom-shaped rocks, that look like they're from another planet. It's like nature decided to get artsy and created this masterpiece. Now, the coolest part? People used to live in these rock-cut homes and churches centuries ago. You can explore these ancient wonders, feeling like Indiana Jones on an adventure. It's like stepping back in time while being surrounded by surreal rock sculptures. And don't even get me started on the hot air balloon rides here. They're legendary. Picture yourself floating above this magical landscape at sunrise, with hundreds of colorful balloons all around you.

Beautiful walk, maybe not as spectacular as some other walks in the area but: it was greener than most other places, some trees giving needed shade and a little creek runs close by. I'd recommend walking uphill as it is a little slippery at times.

It seems like the entrance to the pigeon valley is down the hill, not here. Here is the road for cars. We walked for 2 km and decided to go back to Göreme because it was very hot (8 am), no shade and nothing on the way - just the dusty road.

There is a man in a juice stall located at the trail head. The man would not let anyone access the trail saying the trail was closed. Most of the trail marker signs in the area had been vandalized and may now point in the wrong direction. Uchisar Castle is a centuries-old citadel situated on a rock spur, offering stunning panoramic views of Cappadocia. This 200ft-high turret of golden volcanic rock has been shaped by both natural elements and human hands over the years. The ascent to the top takes you through tunnels and caves that were once used as shelters during attacks, showcasing remnants like livestock mangers and pit ovens.
The ticket now is 320TL for tourists, there is no descriptions nor anything, but the panoramic views from the top are absolutely breathtaking — you can see the entire region, fairy chimneys and even the far away mountains in a clear day. It’s a bit of a climb to the top, but totally worth it. The atmosphere is peaceful, romantic, and ideal for couples. We took amazing photos and just soaked in the scenery together — it felt like time stood still. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Cappadocia — especially at sunset. A perfect spot to share a special moment.

Pretty impressive views on top. It makes for such a picturesque skyline. I hiked up here from Love Valley. Take note they don't take the MuseKart for here. You have to pay a separate entrance fee. You could actually explore from the back of the castle as long as you're careful not to fall as the paths around it are a bit precarious
Dalene B — Google review
Uçhisar Castle offers one of the best panoramic views in all of Cappadocia! Climbing to the top might take a bit of effort, but once you’re up there, you’re rewarded with a breathtaking 360° view of fairy chimneys, valleys, and the surrounding villages. It’s especially magical during sunrise or sunset when the landscape glows in golden light. The castle itself is carved right into the rock, and walking through its tunnels and rooms gives a glimpse into how people once lived here. It’s not a huge site, but the scenery makes it absolutely worth the visit. Wear good shoes and bring your camera — every angle is postcard-worthy. A must-see spot for anyone visiting Cappadocia!
Nafiz I — Google review
We visited Uçhisar Kalesi as a group of 8. The visit is mostly from the outside—it’s essentially a series of steps you climb to reach the top, as the inside is not accessible. From the top, you get an amazing view of Uçhisar, the fairy chimneys, and the surrounding landscape. The castle itself also has a very interesting and unique shape, making it well worth the visit.
Ju G — Google review
Uçhisar Castle (Uçhisar Kalesi) offers one of the best panoramic views in all of Kapadokya. The valley, the castle, the "chimneys," and the entire landscape that we can admire make this place unique. Just thinking that all the holes we see were once the doors of people's houses leaves much to imagine and what it would be like to live like that. The good thing is that many of these holes/"doors" are open and can be visited to see what their interior was like. The castle itself is imposing, a rocky castle that sits atop the village. In the landscape we have in the village of Uçhisar, the horizon is endless and beautiful, you can stop for a while or even sit in one of the cafes and admire all the beauty of this place. It's one of the must-see spots in Kapadokya!
Pedro D — Google review
a must go destination but highly recommend going just before sunset, take some pictures and then buy tickets to the cave castle. b if If it’s a hot summer day, going early evening also means far less heat during your cave castle stair climb. Takes only about 10-minutes to the top for people with no physical limitations.. but if you take your time exploring various rooms etc., you might spend 30-60 minutes inside.
Bill B — Google review
This is one of the many panoramic viewpoints Turkey has to offer. Both sunrise and especially sunset offer a breathtaking 360° view. A burst of light and color that fills the heart. The path leading to the summit is beautiful, rich in history. If you're in Turkey, it's a must-see!

Make sure to try the various Borek dishes available, they were great!

Really and truly please make this a stop on your vacation. I’m into authentic experiences and delicious food and this hit every mark. Just walking up to the location was breathtaking. Sultan Cave Suites is a charming hotel located in Goreme, offering medieval stone suites within cave dwellings. Situated on Aydinli Hill, the hotel provides stunning panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, mountains, and the Cappadocia sky filled with hot-air balloons.
From the moment I arrived, the staff were welcoming and attentive, ensuring every detail of our experience was flawless. The rooms were impeccably clean, beautifully decorated, and offered a cozy atmosphere that made me feel right at home. One of the standout highlights was the breakfast! The selection was incredible—freshly baked pastries, a variety of fruits, delicious local specialties, and perfectly brewed coffee to start the day right. Every bite was a treat, and the quality was exceptional. Sibel was very attentive, welcomed us every day and even remembered our orders. The location of the hotel was perfect, making it easy to explore the area, and the amenities truly elevated my stay. I can't recommend Sultan Cave Suite enough for anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. I'll definitely be returning!

Sultan Cave Suites was definitely the more expensive option, but it was totally worth it. The view was magnificent. Waking up at dawn to see balloons floating all around was magical. The hotel is located at the top of a hill overlooking town. The rooms were beautiful and luxurious. They came with a plate of snacks and a bottle of wine. The bar has an outstanding view of the valley. When you get drinks before dinner, it was hard to avoid snapping picture after picture. But the very best part this hotel was Selen the magnificent restaurant. They have a wonderful buffet style breakfast filled with local produce and products, many of which I hadn’t seen before. The dinner was the best meal we had in Cappadocia. In particular, the hummus and the mezzes were incredible, again with a lot of unique regional dishes I hadn’t seen before. For dessert we had a tahini soufflé. It was amazing. I are very glad we sprung for our stay at the Sultan Cave Suites.

Amazing views from this Cave Hotel! The restaurant sits high above the town, giving a beautiful panoramic view. There’s also a bar-style restaurant where you can wait if the main one is busy. Rooms are a bit smaller for the price range, but very solid and well-designed — from the sturdy sofa to the bathroom design. I especially loved the small balcony, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the scenery. Highly recommend!

Great hotel! Definitely a bit pricy but the views of the balloons at dawn were amazing. Breakfast spread was great too and they make you fresh egg dishes at your request. We were helped by Sibal at breakfast multiple times and she was very friendly, calm, courteous, attentive, and remembered our entire order of 6 items. (she didn’t ask us to mention her name or for a review, we voluntarily asked for her name to write this review!).

We stayed at Sultan Caves Hotel and overall had a mixed experience. First, the positives: the staff here are unbelievably kind and helpful, and they arranged a very convenient shuttle to and from Kayseri Airport. The rooftop views are absolutely stunning…truly one of the best in Cappadocia, and the breakfast buffet was delicious. We stayed in a Junior Suite, and the heated bathroom floors were a great touch during the chilly October evenings. Where the experience fell short for us was the room comfort. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and felt more like sleeping on a firm sofa than a proper hotel bed. Additionally, the rooms are not sound-proof at all. We could hear everything (from outside noise to our neighbors) which made it tough to fully relax and get a good night’s sleep. Sultan Caves has so much charm and great staff, but for the price, we expected more comfort and better room insulation.
Sam B — Google review
An unforgettable stay at Sultan Cave Suites – truly iconic Cappadocia experience! Our stay at Sultan Cave Suites was absolutely perfect. The hotel is beautifully designed, carved into the rock with cozy, authentic rooms and breathtaking views over Göreme. Watching the hot air balloons rise at sunrise right from the terrace was simply magical — it’s every bit as amazing as the photos you see online! The staff were incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay, always smiling and making sure everything was perfect. Breakfast was delicious, generous, and beautifully served with a panoramic view. The location is ideal — just a few minutes’ walk from the center of Göreme, yet perfectly quiet and peaceful at night. If you’re coming to Cappadocia, this is the place to stay for the full experience. Everything exceeded our expectations. 🟡 Only note: bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper — that’s the only small downside.

I want to say a particular thank you to Sibel, she is a breath of fresh air and so delightful to talk to. Her customer service is excellent and so professional. We stayed in a junior cave room suite which was a fantastic experience, the rooms are so clean and beds are seriously comfy. Thank for everything Sultan Cave Suites, you have created a memory that me and my wife will truly never forget. Love to all the team.

One of the best local hidden gems, BUT only in terms of food and atmosphere. The grilled chicken (with rice n vegetables) was one of the best if have ever had. A beautiful church to visit. The door is locked, so you have to ask the older gentleman (up in the hill on the right side when facing the entrance door) to let you in. The entrance fee is 120TL per person, only cash is accepted. The man was very nice, and knew a few words in English to tell you about the frescos on the ceiling and walls.

I loved this little church off the road but be ready for a short hike. It will take you 20 minutes at a leisurely stroll to arrive. However, the frescoes are worth the walk. Also, there is a 5-10TL charge per person to go inside the church.

The intact frescoes are amazing. It's a place tucked away from the tourists in the honey valley- opposite Goreme open air museum. It's not much to look at from outside but don't drop it from your list because of that. The walk around the valley may surprise you with little apple and grape orchards in the folds of the dusty and bare mountains. The best part of the church is the remains of the vivid colours of the frescoes.
Kuntal D — Google review
The church is closed, but if you will look on right side from the church, it’s gonna be small room with person who is let you enter inside. His name is Sami and he knows the history, he can explain you what every picture does it mean. His English is very good :) entrance fee is 5 TL, you can give him tips also. Actually, church inside is very small, but pictures are so real, don’t liable to suspicion that colors are fake)

Detail in the painting is amazing. Away from the crowds and our friend Sami was wonderful. He even gave us the key to the hidden church.

Discovery Balloons offers an unforgettable experience in Cappadocia, where you can soar above the stunning landscapes and capture breathtaking views of the valleys and fairy chimneys. The hot air balloon tours are known for creating romantic moments, making them perfect for marriage proposals or honeymoon adventures. The company is praised for its exceptional service, from seamless communication and punctuality to providing snacks during the ride.
We loved this experience, once in a lifetime.. It wasn't cheap, cost 150EUR per person regardless of age but the experience was worth it. There are certain times of year that are better to go then others due to weather so keep that in mind! We decided to go in November which isn't usually the best time of year but we got lucky.. despite the flight being called off 4 days in a row we finally managed to get up on our last day. We would advise going for a few days and booking it for your first day, if it's cancelled you will have more days to get the chance, if the wind is blowing more then 8MPH they will not take off and you never know if your going to take off until your basket has actually left the floor.. We went to Voyager balloons and the service was great, collected from our accomm, everything explained and given a goodie bag or snacks too. It's chilly in the morning so wrap up! The views were sensational, watching the sunrise of the mountains and just seeing hundreds of balloons all taking flight at the same time was breathtaking.. you can also fly over the Red & Rose valley to see where your able to hike too. The pilot was AMAZING! He got so low in the valley we could touch the tress, he even managed to navigate through gaps in rocks which made the heart race but done it with ease.. this was one of our fav experiences, definitely recommended!! We have created a short vide of it all on our youtube channel but added a short snippet to this review too.

Wow! We had an amazing experience going up in the hot air balloon with beautiful views of Cappadocia. Our pilot and the ground team were very skilled, and the pilot pointed out all the sights from the air. We were one of the first in the air and had a smooth comfortable journey. Happy we decided to choose this company!

I took this balloon ride with my 8 year old daughter after thorough research. This company is one of the best. Everything was perfect and as per plan. Best experience of life. They are a little more expensive than the market but you don't do such experiences daily so you should choose good company.

This experience has been on my list for a long time and yet it still exceeded my expectations, incredible! Communication from the team was great and pick-up was on time. We stopped off at the headquarters for breakfast first, with a good selection of light options (fruit, pastries etc.). Once we arrived at the departure point, it was only a short wait before we were off. Insane views and sunrise, we got just over 1hr in the air, which was more than expected. Super smooth, a good mix of high and low level views and I felt completely confident in the pilots at all times (who also had a great sense of humour). All finished with a sweet treat and glass of bubbly (or non alcoholic option) back on the ground. I booked through Viator which was perhaps a bit more expensive, but the booking flexibility is great. I cannot recommend this experience enough, it's worth every dollar!

⸻ Unforgettable Experience with Discovery Air Balloons! Our experience in Cappadocia wouldn’t have been the same without Discovery Air Balloons. The flight was incredibly smooth, and we enjoyed every single minute of it. Our pilot, Ibrahim, was clearly very experienced, and we felt completely safe in his hands. Communication with the organizers via WhatsApp was smooth and responsive, which made the whole process hassle-free. On top of that, the price for the entire experience was very competitive. Highly recommended! PS: We got a lovely breakfast and coffee/tea before the flight.
Simona S — Google review
My experience with Discavory Balloons was incredible! The staff was super friendly, especially Sirpal. Our pilot, Ibrahim, was absolutely fantastic—he made the flight feel safe and comfortable, and our landing was perfect. I highly recommend them!
Noura A — Google review
We booked Discovery Balloons via Klook. Our experience was very good. The pick up from hotel was on time. Breakfast was served after pickup. It is included in the balloon ride price. We then reached the balloon location in a mini bus. The ballon ride was around for 50 mins. Overall ride was amazing. After the rides, complementary drinks and a certificate were given. Price wise balloon rides are expensive, but it is definitely a unique and exhilarating experience!

We went here for our last breakfast before heading back home to Switzerland.. in the breathtaking Cappadocia landscape, hidden in a valley, surrounded by the typical stones, horses, sheep and cats it’s a perfect breakfast place.. perfect service, perfect food.. you could easily walk / hike here from Göreme… I would go there every day again! Don’t miss it when you’re here
Nora M — Google review
Ramazan took care of us and he was a great host. Very polite and courteous. The food is incredible and probably the best breakfast we've had in Turkey. Great value and fresh and delicious food. Not to mention the view is remarkable if you want to escape the city and get a nice meal in the hidden hills.
Ehab M — Google review
Quickly dropped in for a cold drink after some hikes around. The staff’s attitude was fine until I walked up to pay. I asked was card payment ok, suddenly was given attitudes. The dude pretty much sneered to my face and made loud comments something like “ paying card with only one drink?!” to other workers. Then they all laughed at you to your face. Very unpleasant. If you prefer cash just say so. No need to be mean. Never had this problems as other establishments in town were happily taking cards. Two stars only for the nice view.

Delicious breakfast (we had it at 2pm and so worth it). Very friendly staff and a relaxing place away from the touristy center.

The ONE place you must dine at in Cappadocia. The setting is so beautiful, and like all the other reviews, the staff are so friendly, and the food is amazing. Animals running around and fresh produce being delivered and served, gives it a farm breakfast feeling. FIY ~ Only serving Turkish breakfast, with as much tea and water as you like. Each person must order a breakfast, sharing not permitted.

Peri Cafe Cave Man is a must-visit spot located outside of Uchisar, offering a unique experience. The cafe owner, who has been there for 33 years, lives in the summer and warmly welcomes visitors. The renovated stone schoolhouse serves traditional Anatolian dishes prepared by village women.
Very nice place to visit. It is worth stopping by. The owner of the Cafe made from the house (house inside the rock, specific for that region) some type of a museum, so you can visit it and see how people lived once. There is also a jewelery shop at the bottom level of the house. The view is amazing.

If you’re walking between Uchisar and Goreme via the main road, you’ll pass this place. It’s right outside of Uchisar and worth the stop! The cafe owner has been here for 33 years and even lives here in the summer. He is very kind and allowed us to view the other floors where he normally lives and it was a super unique experience. Besides the cafe, there is also a small jewelry shop on the ground floor. His and his cousin’s hospitality made us feel extremely welcome and made the stop worthwhile.

One of my favourite experiences in Capadoccia! The owner (sorry, I can't remember his name) was so friendly and welcoming. He chatted to all of us and then brought us our drinks. Told us his story if being born there in that cave. He encouraged us to go inside and have a look, and I'm very pleased we did! It's 6 stories up, very impressive! Historical place
The Buckle Church, also known as Tokali Church, is one of the rock-carved structures in the Goreme Open Air Museum. It is believed to have been built in the 10th century and consists of four different areas: the old church, the church under the old church, a new church, and a chapel. The frescoes inside depict scenes such as The Birth, The Baptism, The Last Supper and more.
For people passionate about religion and the history of religions , this is a perfect spot. The tour guide will be walking you through different cultural elements. No photos allowed inside. Recently, they have closed a road used daily because they have discovered new remains of the old city.
Nicoleta M — Google review
It is not free entry, you need to get a ticket for the Goreme Open Air museum (€20) and it includes access to this church
Melissa S — Google review
God's creation. Unbelievable place with holes in mountains where this church was made in Cappadocia at Roman rule
Leena R — Google review
Tokall (Buckle) Church is located near the entrance to the Goreme Open Air Museum. It is free to visit and worth a quick stop before buying your entrance ticket and entering the formal open air museum nearby. Give yourself 5 minutes to view the inside of Tokall Church. The church dates back to the early 9th century and like many other structures in the region was carved out of soft tuff rock, creating interior chambers and rooms used for church and related functions for many centuries. There is some basic information posted outside the church entrance if you want to learn about its history as well as the fresco cycles located within. What you see inside are nicely frescoed ceilings and walls, some of the most impressive in the region. Photography isn't allowed so just admire what you are seeing. Note there are presently some restorations taking place inside Tokall Church so part of the frescos are covered (Sept 2025) and unavailable to be seen at this time.

Apparently this is the largest church in Goreme. You can visit here with the tickets for Goreme Open Air Museum as well. The staff is very strict about taking photos. I was marveled by how well-preserved the paintings and frescos are! Many battle scenes from history and many scenes from the holy book are depicted on the walls of this ancient scared structure.

Hotel
Mithra Cave Hotel Cappadocia is a charming and upmarket hotel located on Aydinli Hill in Goreme, offering stunning views of the famous fairy chimneys and colorful hot air balloons. The hotel's polished rooms and suites, some featuring whirlpool tubs, provide a comfortable stay with high-end amenities. Guests can enjoy the panoramic vistas from the terrace, making it an ideal spot to witness the spectacle of hot air balloons rising into the sky.
We stayed in Mithra Cave hotel for three nights this summer during our trip to Cappadocia. The architecture of the hotel is absolutely amazing. You can see the entire Goreme town and hot air balloons from its rooftop and the rooms are comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and fresh. Finally, their service and hospitality was excellent. Hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.
Rehnuma M — Google review
(I'll be back in Göreme, but I won't be staying at this hotel again.) I chose this hotel because it's beautiful and has a lovely rooftop terrace for watching the balloons. It's well-located and well-decorated. It's a very Instagrammable hotel. I didn't feel welcomed upon arrival. The staff didn't give us a warm welcome. I think the reception is the hotel's gateway. They must have friendly staff. In my case, it wasn't. Breakfast leaves something to be desired. The orange juice wasn't fresh 😲 The coffee was so weak it tasted like tea🙄 The room was beautiful; we stayed in room 41, and the decor was really nice. The air conditioning worked well, as did the refrigerator. Except for the fan, which could have been a little more modern. It didn't match the rest of the decor. But it wasn't a big problem. However, I had a bad experience on the last day with the housekeeping staff. I didn't put the sign on the door to avoid cleaning the room, and she rudely explained to me how to do it. I know how to behave in hotels because I've stayed in many. So I know how a room sign works. She didn't speak a word of English, which made communication difficult. My husband reported the incident, and the manager, Emre, kindly came to the room personally to apologize, and then I received a plate of cold, fresh fruit. My reaction was to cry of anger. This had never happened to me before. Staff don't need to speak perfect English, but they should at least know a few words to communicate with guests; after all, English is a universal language. If a person can't speak the language, their body speaks. That's hers, she said rudely. I've never felt so bad. Don't let this happen to more guests, because it makes all the difference when choosing this hotel. It was just a small detail: she could have said, "No problem, back later." If she had, my review would have been completely different. Because of her, the hotel's rating will drop another star. I won't return to this hotel, nor will I recommend it.
Dani D — Google review
My stay at Mithra Cave Hotel was truly unforgettable. The hotel is located in the center of the town so it’s really easy to reach everything by walk. The terrace is the best part, the morning view from there is simply magical, watching the hot air balloons rise at sunrise felt like living in a dream. The breakfast was delicious and rich with local flavors, the rooms were spotless and beautifully unique, carved directly into the rock, giving an authentic full experience since you’re sleeping inside a fairy chimney! The staff was incredibly kind and always ready to help. I couldn’t have wished for a better place to enjoy this special destination. Highly recommended!”
Alessia M — Google review
Everything seemed okay. To be honest hotel have one of the best location in the city. Rooms are very cool and design is perfect. You get best view of baloons in the morning. Breakfast is very nice. Dont expect european much. Like no croissant etc but local and quality. While bell people were very friendly over all only problematic part in our stay was service. I guess hotel got everything but missing smile on people. Simply at the check in and check out. Also i should note that they give you 100 TRY each room voucher but they do their best not to utilize it. I found it a bit cheap and wrong marketing. I hope they can fix that moving forward.
FIRAT K — Google review
We stayed in Mithra Cave to hotel in Cappadocia. The location was great and very convenient for getting around. However, there were several disappointing aspects. First, the booking site mentioned that the room had air conditioning, but it only had a cold air fan — which was far from sufficient in the summer heat. Second, the bathtub had a drainage issue; the water easily overflowed and made the bathroom floor wet. Third, the staff didn’t proactively check or refill toiletries like shampoo or body wash. We had to call and ask for them ourselves, which was inconvenient. Overall, while the stay was okay and the location was excellent, these issues made the experience less comfortable. Please consider them carefully before booking
Chris H — Google review
If you want to get a taste of what it is like to live in a cave in Cappadocia, this hotel fits the bill! Rooms are originally carved from white sandstone which the hotel supports with facing, electricity and running water. The beds are comfortable, the hot water is instantaneous and the restaurant on the roof serves decent food. People are friendly and there are maid services daily.
Gretatude G — Google review
Amazing hotel! Very clean and staff are super friendly. Special thanks to Milis at the front desk who welcomed us with a bright smile and kindness while we waited for our room to be ready. Highly recommend!!
Sheila M — Google review
The place has a beautiful view. I went up to get a drink. I ordered a coke and a virgin mojito. The first time they made it they added Bacardi RIGHT AFTER I told them no alcohol. When they remade it, they added a piece of lemon with dark brown rims, it was nasty, two mint leaves, ice and sprite. That’s it. The coke was about 150TL. When I got the bill I was charged for a full on alcoholic drink. I asked the server if it was cheaper for being non-alcoholic (like anywhere else) and she said no. Then they had the audacity to include tip. I was charged 150TL for a coke, and 550TL for a stuck up sprite. I don’t even like sprite. I left the drink. All in all it was 737TL for 2 sodas. Definitely recommend for the views, not at all for drinks or advice. (Total was $18 USD for two sodas)

Shoestring Cave House Hotel is a unique accommodation carved into volcanic rock in Goreme. The hotel offers clean and spacious rooms with en-suite shower/wc, informal service, and very reasonable rates. It's conveniently located just 5 minutes walk from the bus station, making it a great starting point for exploring the surrounding areas. Guests can enjoy amenities such as an outdoor pool, pool bar, room service, restaurant, and bar.
I visited to celebrate our birthdays with my wife, and they went above and beyond to make the occasion special. The room was beautifully decorated, and the staff was incredibly kind and accommodating in making all the arrangements exactly as we requested. They ensured that our experience was memorable by being very attentive to our needs. The hotel's central location in Goreme made it convenient to access nearby restaurants, shops, and walking trails. The views from the rooftop terrace were breathtaking, especially the hot air balloons at sunrise, creating the perfect atmosphere for photography and relaxation. The cave-style rooms, with their unique rock walls and luxurious amenities, were both cozy and comfortable. The breakfast buffet offered a delightful variety. The assistance provided by the staff in booking tours made our adventure even more seamless. There were a few aspects of the stay that could have been better. During the winter period, some amenities, like the poolside bar, the swimming pool were closed. Additionally, construction noise from renovations was a bit disruptive.

Our stay at Shoestring was absolutely unforgettable! 🌟 The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of Cappadocia, walking distance to everything. Our suite was gorgeous (even if there was a slight humidity smell), but honestly, the whole experience was beyond magical. Watching the hot air balloons rise from the hotel’s rooftop? A total bucket-list moment. 🎈✨ Great drinks, extra kind service (special mention to the charming bartender) he’s an absolute sweetheart! Amazing cocktails (the espresso martini is a must), extra thoughtful service (he even carried our luggage!), and let’s not forget the two adorable dogs running around the property. 🐶🐶 This place stole my hear, no doubt I’ll be coming back. ❤️ xxx

All the reviews on here are accurate, this hotel was STUNNING. The stairs are totally worth it and got us our daily exercise but I agree for young children or elderly it can be difficult. They carried our luggage to our room but on check out we carried it ourselves. The room was clean and beautiful, and the photo spots and upstairs terraces are 10/10. Highly recommend! Breakfast was also wonderful.

The location of this hotel is unbeatable. However, being at the top, you do need a cab to go back up. Going down is not an issue. They have a staircase in the back that leads you right to town. The open roof top is the best for pictures and hot air balloon sightings. LThe staff was amazing. Really tried to make our stay memorable. They arranged our shuttle to and from the airport and were very helpful. Unfortunately, it didn't feel like a cave to us. We had a glass door to get the view, I suppose, but at no time did I feel like I was in a cave. The room jacuzzi was great but the outdoor jacuzzi was out of service. The breakfast buffet was great. I couldn't imagine staying anywhere at the bottom of town and missing out on the amazing views. I highly recommend it! I highly recommend it.

Only thing that was a bit bothersome was the floor got super wet when we showered – the seal wasn't the best but it didn't ruin our time there. The staff were so helpful and kind to us, they helped us coordinate shuttles for our excursions without question and made sure we were safe and informed at all times. There isn't a pool as stated but there is a jacuzzi tub which was right outside our room (room 5) with a little bistro set. The hotel is pretty much at the highest point in the town, so the views are second to none during the day and at night when everything is lit up. We woke up early on our last day to watch the hot air balloons rise in the fields below, it was an incredible sight to see. There are tons of spots they have set up around the property to take memorable vacation photos. A buffet breakfast is included so we were able to save some money on dining out every day in the morning. My boyfriend and I cannot speak more highly of this property. Caution for those who have trouble walking, since the property is up quite high and it is a very warm climate, you may need to consider booking a shuttle to get you there. The village is very hilly where the hotels are so expect to sweat and be tired by the time you reach your accommodation. There is a secret staircase in the village (the staff can tell/show you where it is) that takes you directly up to the property but it's close to 200 stairs up so you're still going to be exerting some energy if you're not good with climbing.

I had a wonderful stay at Traveler's Cave Hotel. The view is absolutely breathtaking — truly one of the best I’ve ever seen. The hotel is located higher up on a hill, so you’ll need to drive up to get there, but it's absolutely worth it once you arrive. The staff were all incredibly kind and helpful, which made the experience even better. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the area!

We loved our stay here - the rooms here are massive and the terrace is a great spot for viewing hot air balloons. Proximity to town is great, maybe a 5min walk. In particular - Ünal deserves all the recognition he receives in these reviews. He was extremely helpful and kind upon our departure, with providing my sick travel companion with orange juice to carrying our bags blocks away to our airport shuttle. Thank you!!

Located in the heart of Goreme, Cappadocia, Grand Elite Cave Suites is a top-rated cave hotel offering excellent facilities for couples. The hotel provides a breakfast buffet with halal, vegetarian, and vegan options and also offers paid airport shuttle service, free parking, and WiFi. Guests can enjoy the seasonal swimming pool while watching hot air balloons at sunrise. The rooms are spacious and suitable for couples or small families with an additional single bed available.
We stayed here for 4 nights and could not fault the hotel. The lady at reception was lovely, helped us organise tours, shuttles etc with no problems. We loved our room, it was very well heated and cleaned daily. The location is perfect, a few minutes walking and you are in the middle of the town. Breakfast was fantastic, so many options, delicious and fresh, easily the best place we have stayed for the price in Turkey. Thank you 👌

Sewer smells: owner needs to invest in the plumbing. We took the top suite to relax in their hot tub after all the tours. We were overwhelmed with sewer smell as we walked in, but figured it was the cave set-up. Our usual solution to the "no p-trap plumbing" is covering all drains and airing out the room, but this time it still left really intense sewer odors after 24 hours. So we asked for help. Staff are in an awkward position when they have to solve a thing that they feel like they need to deny, so it took a while to convince them that they could acknowledge the smells, and that sewer smell exposure can make people deathly sick. They called in a technician and added a working exhaust fan that redirected the open sewer air from all the below floors that had been stagnating in our cave room for an unknown duration. But even as it was being slowly addressed, our systems had taken in too much already, so it was too late to prevent us from getting every stomach illness and assessing whether we needed to go to emergency from 9pm through 2am, during which time we could hardly leave the washroom. They saw me leave sick and feverish. I left a review on Booking pointing out how sick I was from the interaction and spent New Year's Eve being told I was going to make the staff homeless for leaving the review, and I should be a better person. My husband talked me into deleting the comments because they had done what they could after I insisted. But I still haven't been able to eat a meal in days, I am sleeping 14 hours a day with fevers, respiratory problems and weakness while we continue our itinerary in far more humble, remote regions in Turkey. And all of these places have proper plumbing with p-traps. I finally decided that since no concerns were shown about how this room affected us, I should share the review anyway: if staff continue needing to deny that there is a smell, it could get out of hand easily and so this could impact someone else. It is not a staff problem, they have all my sympathy for their situation. It is an owner decision that I hope is made for staff's health as well. Otherwise the place is adorable.

Amazing stay at Grand Elite Cave Suites! Perfect location, spotless rooms, and excellent service. The pool area is stunning, and special thanks to Mr. B — he’s outstanding and made our visit unforgettable. Highly recommend! I am gonna miss him.

An amazing hotel, everything was perfect! The breakfasts were delicious, and my room with a sauna, hammam, and jacuzzi was like a dream — a private cave just for myself. I spent two wonderful nights here. The staff at the reception speaks English and is very friendly — they even served me tea. Highly recommend!

We booked as part of a larger group. The rooms are as great as their website photos. The town is very walkable. Parking was good. Breakfast was quite traditional for a Turkish and was a large spread. Would definitely come back!

Great location. Just outside of town so it’s quiet but close enough so you can walk into town. Breakfast is incredible and really was a great way to start my day. The front desk staff seem a bit confused, so make sure you follow up with them.

Göreme Grand Bazaar, also known as the Spice Bazaar in Istanbul, is a must-visit for food and culture enthusiasts. The stunning building with its arched ceiling and vendors offering samples of lokum (Turkish delight) creates a sensory experience. Additionally, visitors can explore the fascinating history of imperial Istanbul through a privately guided tour that includes stops at the Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern, and Grand Bazaar for haggling for Turkish treasures.
Great place to buy souvenirs, many restaurants also tours offers here. Many ATM also, since mostly paymeny using cash. You can walk around to enjoy the view, also not far from Love Valley. The view is so beautiful.
