The Göreme Open Air Museum, formerly known as the Goreme Open Air Museum, is a collection of churches and monasteries carved into volcanic rock during the Middle Ages. Located just a short walk from the modern village of Göreme, this site is easily accessible to visitors.
We visited the Göreme Open-Air Museum with a group of 8 people. Since it was midsummer and the temperature was extremely high, we only stayed for about an hour, especially because our group included elderly members. The site itself is marvelous, especially if you enjoy walking and can spend a few hours exploring. However, I would not recommend visiting during the summer, as the heat is intense and there is very little shade.

This unique museum is an amalgamation of Cappadocia's topology and culture. Tickets are required to visit it. Tickets can be purchased online as well at the spot. The museum has churches, residences etc carved out in the hills. A guide is recommended to understand the history and significance of different structures and paintings. Do wear comfortable shoes and hats as outdoor walking and climbing stairs are required.
Alok A — Google review
Walking into the Göreme Open-Air Museum felt like entering a sacred time capsule carved by faith itself. The air was dry and still, yet it carried echoes of centuries — of prayers whispered in the dark, of monks who once painted the walls with devotion and light. The first sight of those ancient cave churches, carved directly into the soft volcanic rock, took my breath away. From the outside, they looked almost humble, blending seamlessly with the landscape. But stepping inside… it was like crossing into another realm. The interiors exploded with color — vivid frescoes of deep reds, blues, and golds still shining after more than a thousand years. Scenes of Christ, angels, and saints seemed to glow in the dim light, each brushstroke a heartbeat from another era. In the Dark Church (Karanlık Kilise), the silence was profound. Only a faint scent of stone and dust filled the air. Looking up at the perfectly preserved paintings on the domed ceiling, I felt time dissolve. The artistry, the patience, the belief — everything about that moment was humbling. Outside, the valley stretched in golden tones under the Cappadocian sun, while swallows danced over the fairy chimneys. I sat for a while, just watching, trying to absorb the stillness that seemed to connect earth and eternity. Visiting Göreme wasn’t just about exploring history — it was about feeling the soul of a civilization that turned rock into faith, silence into prayer, and isolation into beauty.
Paulo V — Google review
This was the most expensive single ticket we had… and we really wished we had bought the 3 day pass. Do this if you are seeing a lot of sites in 3 days. This site is not large and can easily be done in 1-1.5 hrs. Not much to see inside the cave dwellings. A plus of this site over others is that there are signs describing the rooms. There is not much for why this place had such a strong church relationship. It is not a place where lots of people lived. Good if you are only near goreme for ballooning.
Global E — Google review
Must see in Cappadoccia, and Turkey in general. This is an incredible monastry complex, with some part quite old. The Dark Church is impressive and completely worth the extra 6€. It is also walkable distance from Goreme itself. Aim to go there early before groups arrive. It feels a lot more mystical when you’re the only one there :)
Johan S — Google review
€20 for entry to the museum. It was beautiful to walk around the amazing rock cut churches and chapels. The Dark Church was unfortunately not included in the entry fee and was €6 extra which you do not know until you have paid and are already inside. That was the main reason to go inside so it felt very misleading.
Kate F — Google review
Worth visiting! The cave churches with old paintings and frescos are magnificent. I would recommend to come around 9 am when there are no too many tourist groups.
NF — Google review
Another museum, another expense. To top it off you had to pay another €6 to go into the best chapel in the complex. Not impressed. No photos allowed inside churches but lots of people were taking them. Fortunately guards were in the best to control illegal photos. Info was generally good for this complex.

Göreme National Park, situated in the volcanic region between Hasan Mountain and Erciyes Mountain, boasts a diverse landscape of plateaus, plains, hills, valleys, and eroded formations. The area is renowned for its rock-hewn sanctuaries showcasing unique Byzantine art from the post-iconoclastic period. Visitors can explore dwellings, troglodyte villages, underground towns dating back to the 4th century, and remnants of traditional human habitats.
Land of beautiful horses. As a local tourist, it was my 4th time visit to cappadocia. You should definitely see goreme national park. One of the oldest the last supper portrayal can be found in “Karanlık Kilise” the dark church. If you don’t have a guide, I strongly suggest to rent a audio guide at the entrance.

This is a UNESCO World Heritage site surrounding the town of Göreme in the region of Cappadocia. In addition to Göreme where you find homes, hotels and restaurants carved into the unique rock and landscape, there are several valleys that you can hike through, seeing ancient cave homes, churches dating back to the Byzantine era and other structures alongside the unique Fairy Chimneys and at times lunar landscapes. Most are free to access and explore in addition to the protected (free entry) Open Air Museum of Goreme. There are numerous viewpoints, endless unique scenery and hot-air balloons that dot the sky first thing each morning. We very much enjoyed several days exploring the Göreme National Park and greatly look forward to returning to spend more time in this unique UNESCO area as well as other locations around Cappadocia in the future.

I went to Göreme National Park, the world heritage site with lots of excitement and it proved to be the best. I was very much interested about early Christians and how Christianity grew till the 3 rd century. I can tell you that it’s just awesome. Anyone interested in church history, it’s a must visit place. The temperature when we visited there was cold but I could go through the various places. It’s a must visit place.

Great place in cappadocia, you cannot miss it when visiting the region. Alongside the road from Göreme to Uchisar there are many cafes with shops and great views to the valley. From Wikipedia: Göreme (Turkish: [ɟœˈɾeme]; Ancient Greek: Κόραμα, romanized: Kòrama), located among the "fairy chimney" rock formations, is a town in Cappadocia, a historical region of Turkey. It is in the Nevşehir Province in Central Anatolia and has a population of around 2,000 people.
Guilherme F — Google review
you've got these bizarre rock formations, we're talking about towering spires and mushroom-shaped rocks, that look like they're from another planet. It's like nature decided to get artsy and created this masterpiece. Now, the coolest part? People used to live in these rock-cut homes and churches centuries ago. You can explore these ancient wonders, feeling like Indiana Jones on an adventure. It's like stepping back in time while being surrounded by surreal rock sculptures. And don't even get me started on the hot air balloon rides here. They're legendary. Picture yourself floating above this magical landscape at sunrise, with hundreds of colorful balloons all around you.

Red Valley ATV offers a unique and breathtaking experience, especially during the evening when the setting sun transforms the soft red formations into a mesmerizing sea of fire. The ATV tour provides an amazing adventure, with helpful staff who ensure convenience by providing hotel pick-up and drop-off. While some visitors found the tour to be crowded and dusty, others enjoyed driving through the valley despite the rain.
Stunning and an Indiana-Jones type journey if you go.to Red/Rose Valley via the Sword Valley which works for adults but also for children. In thia trail you have to navigate in really narrow and steep wodden and iron stairs in absolutely stunning narrow gorge that you see rarely anybody taking even when you are still in one of the most heavily touristy place in the world! The key to finding thia route is to take the right turn from the exit on the right of Goreme Open Air Museum, from the top of the road. There is a big instruction plate on the right of the asphalt rpad but the plate can hardly be read. We followed an All Trail app trail tp fins this entry to the route and not to get lost - it was absolutely unexpected what we found, a very adventourous journey well worth taking!
Jeta X — Google review
Red Valley ATV: An Adrenaline-Fueled Adventure Through Cappadocia's Otherworldly Landscape Buckle up for an unforgettable adventure! Red Valley ATV in Cappadocia, Turkey, is more than just your typical off-road ride. It's a heart-pounding journey through a landscape sculpted by millions of years of nature's handiwork. Red Hot and Ready to Roll: The star of the show is, of course, the Red Valley itself. The volcanic soil here paints the landscape a fiery red, especially at sunset, creating a truly otherworldly backdrop for your ATV adventure. As you navigate the dusty trails, prepare to be awestruck by the towering fairy chimneys, hoodoos standing sentinel over the valley floor. Thrills with a View: The tour itself is a perfect blend of excitement and sightseeing. You'll get behind the wheel of your own ATV (or share with a friend) and follow a guide on a pre-determined route. The pace keeps things interesting, with sections that allow you to open it up a bit and feel the rush of adrenaline, balanced with slower sections where you can soak in the scenery. Beyond the Red: The beauty of the Red Valley ATV tour is that it takes you beyond just the Red Valley itself. Depending on the tour you choose, you might also wind your way through other Cappadocia gems like the Rose Valley, with its blush-colored cliffs, or Love Valley, famous for its phallic-shaped rock formations (ahem, interesting photo opportunity!). Geared Up for Fun: Safety is a priority here. The tour operators provide helmets, goggles, and any other necessary gear to keep you protected. They'll also give you a quick safety briefing before setting off, ensuring everyone is comfortable and confident on their ATV. Here are some things to keep in mind: Be Adventure Ready: This is an off-road adventure, so expect a bumpy ride and some dust. Dress accordingly in comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes. Experience Matters: While no prior ATV experience is necessary, some tours might be better suited for more experienced riders. Check with the operator beforehand. Capture the Moment: Don't forget your camera! The scenery is begging to be photographed, and you'll definitely want to capture memories of your thrilling ride. Overall, Red Valley ATV is a fantastic way to experience the unique wonders of Cappadocia. It's perfect for adventure seekers, nature lovers, and anyone who wants to add a dose of excitement to their Cappadocia itinerary.

Great place to watch sunset at Red Valley. Went there during ATV tour. It was the last stop of the tour riding ATV. It was just pure grandeur of a scenery at sunset. A must do when going to Cappadocia!
Joash J — Google review
Amazing experience. Don’t forget to bring sunglasses, mask or bandana to cover face, covering clothes and boots instead of sandals. There will be lots of dust and bright sunlight. ATV was quite easy to drive, if you can drive motorcycle or car there will no problem. The staffs were super helpful. They picked us up from hotel and helped throughout the trip and dropped off at the hotel, which was super convenient. Thanks to the team.

Fahad S — Google review
Was an ok atv tour. For the trail conditions there were too many atvs in a line kicking up too much dust. It is a cheaper tour so you do get what you pay for. The woman behind us hit the back of our atv 3 separate times instead of stopping with her breaks. Oh and someone got stabbed at the end sunset part where there was just too many people for my liking. I’d suggest a more private tour for sure but for 30 or so euro it was worth it.
Thomas R — Google review
A must do when in cappadocia, and recommend doing at sunset! I didn't get to because of timing but can only imagine the reflection on the valley because without it, it was breathtaking! You see tons of beautiful valleys and cappadocia landscape, a great quick alternative if you don't have time to actually hike.

Hiking area
Pigeon Valley Trailhead East is a picturesque spot in Cappadocia, known for its iconic fairy chimneys and mushroom-shaped rock formations. The area is rich in history, with many of these unique structures being used as homes dating back to the 3rd century. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk amidst the stunning natural scenery and explore the cave churches that are scattered along the trail.
A must do trail. We actually started at the top closer to Uchisar and went towards goreme (so technically the opposite direction). This way we ended in town for lunch, and as you walk down you get beautiful views, and probably make the difficulty slightly less.
Tegan C — Google review
Starting point to walk through Pigeon Valley. Easy walkable, partly need hands to step over some bigger rocks. Awesome place to discover nature apart from the main tourism spots. We met maybe 5 people on the whole track. You can walk back the same way or discover Uchisar, and it's castle on the end of the path. Highly recommended
Tim H — Google review
Hiked this alone today and it was completely safe. Met a few hikers going the opposite direction too so the trail gets some decent traffic. Some parts are slippery with loose sand/stones so wear good shoes and carry some plasters or a first aid kit in case you have an accident. The stray dogs are still in a cave at the midway point but they are nothing to worry about from my observations. On my way out they were sleeping in the cave and didn't even flinch with me walking past. On my way back it was nearing sunset and they were out scavenging for things to eat but even then they minded their own business and did not bark or approach me. You will be fine as long as you leave them be and don't provoke them. They did not seem aggressive at all.
Iftekhar A — Google review
This review is from "Goreme to Pigeon Valley Walk" location and relevant to this place as well as it connects. I can read the previous reviews in this location and people have had similar experience. Becareful!!! There is a group of stray dogs living at a viewpoint. 15-20 minutes from the start point of the walk towards the right. A small black pet dog followed us to the walk from the start. We thought it was ok, but don't let him follow you. He kept peeing at different points to mark his territory. Soon after, the stray dogs came and became aggressive because of the small black dog. They barked at us (8-9 dogs). I thought we could move forward, and it'll be alright, but one of them bit my friend in the leg. We were lucky to be in a group of 6, so we carefully returned while protecting ourselves from the stray dogs. There should be a sign to be aware of stray dogs, and representatives should make sure to protect tourists from this. Also, note that if it wasn't for the small black dog following us and marking territory. The stray dogs would not have come.
Saad H — Google review
This charming trail is easy-medium. It is best to start with if you are in Goreme to get used to the surroundings. You can go all the way to Uchisal Caste if you feel up for it.
Lex E — Google review
If you got some time after watching the balloons and before breakfast, then go for a short hike. One way takes about 30 minutes and offers a nice scenery ready to make a picture from. And, if you are lucky, you will find a friendly dog as companion.
Erik W — Google review
Great trail. Did it in the late morning and there were no crowds. If coming by car, you can try to drive all the way to the end of the road. There is a very tiny parking lot at the end which can fit maybe 5 cars. If there’s no space there is plenty of space along the side of the road leading up to it. No entrance fee. We hiked from Goreme to Uchisar, which took about an hour with some photo stops along the way.
Anne — Google review
It is normally a short trek (less than 1 hour 1 way) from Goreme to Uchisar (near the castle). But in late Feb the trek was muddy, icy, slippery, so quite challenging for amateur trekker like myself. Also there were not many clear directions (arrows, signs; unlike in Red Valley) in the Pigeon Valley when trekked it in late winter. Signs were clear only at beginning and end of route. The view was superb.

Rose Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in Cappadocia, offering great hiking opportunities and stunning views. It features several old churches carved into the tufa rock, accessible to everyone. The valley is known for its unique streaks of orange, red, pink, and white rock formations that compete for attention.
The natural scenery is fantastic combined with the history of the rock dwellings we were blown away. Hiked an AllTrails circuit by hooking up from Kaya Campground maybe 6 miles all in. Besides the $10 orange juice (which we enjoyed) there was nothing bad about this trip. The trail got pretty slippery after the Thunderstorm but we loved it.

It was my last day in Goreme and I decided to go on a ATV Tour. This tour generally costs 20 Euros for 2 hours and they cover three valleys - Love Valley, Rose/Red Valley, Sword Valley. I found this tour totally worth it. If you have more time in hand, you can go for a trekking along these valleys as well which can take 6-8 hours. All these valleys are pretty nice and beautiful. On top of that riding ATV through these valleys was a pretty unique and interesting experience. Red/Rose valley has unique formations with red color and hence the name as red valley.

Rose Valley was a great hike in Cappadocia, not to difficult either. You can choose to climb up rocks and hills to achieve better views and make it more exciting but it’s not essential. It’s amazing to see all the carvings and dwellings in the rocks, some of them are very high and makes you wonder how they managed to create these all them years ago! Most of of the dwellings are off limits but there are some you can get into and have a look around. Amazing to see some that have 2 stories and carved out stairs between the 2 floors, can only imagine how long it must have taken to make them.. It’s a 2/3 hour hike hike so manage your time, we were luck to get it just right and catch the sunset right at the end which was beautiful! We travelled with 2 boys aged 8 and 10 and they enjoyed it very much. There is also a small shop selling refreshments about half way through but I'd still suggest taking your own water, the shop just pops up when you think you are in the middle of nowhere!! (See Pics) We enjoyed this hike, no need to do it again but would recommend if your in Cappadocia! We decided to go it on our own, no tour guide and was reasonably straight forward, there are a few valleys and if you plan to visit more then 1 I’d suggest a guide.

We did a 2h hike in the rose valley. Beautiful place. There is an immense church on the way that worth to be visited. The 3 cross church is nice as well. The landscape simply beautiful l. Bring good shoes the path is slippery sometimes due to the dust. As well as cash as there is a bar (with WC) half way where you can get refreshments. We did the hike with a guide from our hotel. There is a lot of path to follow, it can be complicated if you don't know your way.

Cappadocia is truly a breathtaking destination in Turkey. The natural landscape is unique and stunning, with valleys, fairy chimneys, and rock formations you won’t find anywhere else. The hot air balloon ride at sunrise is an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience watching the sun rise over Cappadocia from above is simply magical. There are also many historical sites to explore, including underground cities, ancient churches, and open-air museums. The atmosphere is peaceful, the locals are friendly, and the cave hotels offer a unique and cozy stay. Cappadocia is perfect for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a romantic or memorable travel experience. A must-visit in Turkey!

Rose Valley is one of several valleys just to the east of Goreme where you can hike through lunar like landscape with unique rock and land formations including the famous Fairy Chimneys of Cappadocia. You will see numerous carved rooms, old homes and churches some of which are very impressive. We particularly enjoyed the Cross (also called Crusader) Church. You can walk through Rose Valley by way of taxi drop off at the main hot-air balloon launch spot or by foot from Goreme. There are numerous hiking trails through the valley, we completed a roughly 15km walk loop trail linking Rose with Red Valley while starting and ending our walk from the Goreme town centre. Hiking leisurely we spent just over 5 hours making our way through the two valleys on the day. There are several make-shift juice stands, particularly in Red Valley, where you can stop for a rest and orange and pomegranate juice break. They sell water as well if you need a top up during your hike. On the whole, we really enjoyed our time spent in Rose Valley and would gladly hike this area of Cappadocia again next time we visit this area in Turkey.

Hiking area
Love Valley, also known as the Ihlara Valley, is a stunning canyon formed by volcanic activity and erosion over thousands of years. Stretching about 10 km with a depth of 100 meters, it served as a rocky settlement for monasteries from the 4th to 13th centuries. Located in Goreme, its unique rock formations have earned it the nickname 'Love Valley,' featuring phallic-shaped structures that add an element of humor to the natural beauty.
An excellent place to hike. The trail is generally straight forward but there are a few forks that split off and generally meet back. The lower trail has the best grade for walking. Also, you need to watch your footing when walking over loose earth in places. However, it's totally worth the amazing views and a nice break from the crowds (we rarely encountered other hikers).

Impressive walking trail through Love Valley in the area between Uchisar and Goreme. We combined with the trail through Pigeon Valley along with a visit to Uchisar Castle for a long 11.5km loop trail starting and ending at Goreme. Great day out!

Amazing spot to see the balloons show. Tip: Get there around 6 am or even early. depending on how the weather is. It's not allowed to fly drones when the balloons are in the air, but it's a great spot for it. Around 7:30, almost all the balloons will be landed or about to land.

Walk from Üçhisar — the view and walking path are amazing. You’ll hardly see any other tourists there, since most of them enter Love Valley from the other side, which is closer and easier. After about a two-hour walk, you’ll reach Love Valley.

Amazing rock formations and wonderful views. We hiked through the valley. Good footwear is a must as some parts are uneven. Please take your rubbish home and keep this beautiful area clean for all to enjoy.

It takes around 30 minutes at a slow pace to reach the middle of these 'love' rocks 🫶 The hike is easy as it is mainly flat. This location is at the main entry of the path. Come to it where you see a stone with some writing in Turkish and you're at the right place. You can park for free anywhere around the entry.

Pigeon Valley in Cappadocia offers a less crowded entrance through Goreme, allowing visitors to fully explore the valley without a car or organized tour. The valley provides stunning views of Uchisar Castle and is best experienced from Aza Cave Hotel, offering prime vantage points for watching hot air balloons at sunrise and sunset. While the hiking trip presents some challenges with tricky and slippery paths, it rewards hikers with breathtaking canyon views.
It is a short hike about one to one and half hours. I went at the end of June, the orchards of plum, apricots, cherries, and mulberries were ripe and ready to pluck. The walk was through a quiet valley, the stream was flowing through the path, and there were small tunnels to cross through.
S. Z — Google review
There are still people living in the rock caves, you can meet them. It's perfect for hiking between Goreme and Uchisar. The entire hiking trail extends to the south of Uchisar, so it says it takes 3.5 hours, but if you go to Uchisar Castle, it takes about 1 hour. Goreme is lower, so it's easier to go from Uchisar to Goreme. If you're taking a bus on either the way there or back, I recommend taking the bus from Goreme to Uchisar. The hiking trail is full of spectacular views, so you can enjoy the scenery without being rushed around by a tour.

Lucky for us to visit in snow fall, what a wonder full of the valley in this condition. We came from small access that does not require ticket.
Nguyen K — Google review
Loved this hike. It was a little hard to initially find the trail from the Uchisar castle. There is a faded sign in Turkish but once you start the hike, it is awesome. Great views and the hike is pretty easy to navigate. 4kms or so and mostly flat. Recommend wearing sneakers or something with grip as the small gravel makes walking slippery.

The Dark Church, also known as Karanlik Kilise, is a rock-carved structure located in the Goreme Open Air Museum. It features vibrant frescoes and vaulted ceilings that depict scenes such as The Birth, The Baptism, The Last Supper, and The Crucifixion. This church receives very little light due to its small window in the Narthex part, which has helped preserve the vividness of its frescoes over time.
It's an extra 6 euro on top of the 20 euro admission to the open air museum. However, it has really complete and beautiful frescos. It is not allowed to take pictures inside and there is an attendant who monitors this.
N M — Google review
Beautiful place. Like all other spots in this Open Air Museum. Must see

Amazing place, the frescos inside are so interesting. Definitely worth the extra price, if you are resident you csn get a discount with the museum yearly card
Reyes O — Google review
This review is not about the site, wich is beautiful and of great historical significance. This is about the person guarding the inside of the dark church on the 14th of May 2025 at 2pm He is there mainly not to allow visitors to take pictures, fair enough. The problem is he was talking to a Turkish visitor who, whilst chatting to him was touching the frescos and then looking at his hands to see if they were stained. The guard didn't ask him to stop. He was unfazed by the whole thing. I would like to direct the question directly to this guard, that's why I have indicated the date and time: Is this how you look after a world heritage property? You don't deserve holding that job
Francisco C — Google review
You paid 20€ for the open air museum and an extra 6€ for this “dark church”. It’s nice but small, it took less than a minute to see it. I regretted it.
Ya-Pei L — Google review
Had such a wonderful time in this dark church. The paintings of Jesus were amazing - felt as if I were traveling back in time🙏. And as other reviews mentioned, I also noticed the guard at the door was not friendly toward foreigners.
GK L — Google review
Very disappointed and tourist practices. You pay 30euro a ticket to enter the open air museum assuming you will see everything and then you get to the dark church and it’s hidden by a pay wall, you gotta pay an extra 6euro to enter. Pay to win rubbish.
Ruan O — Google review
Do not pay… keep walking and you will find other stairs with another church which is almost the same so it’s not worth to pay. This should be included in the already 20 euro entrance fee

Love Valley in Cappadocia is a truly enchanting destination that captures the heart and soul of every visitor. Known for its stunning, surreal rock formations, this valley offers an atmosphere of tranquility that feels almost timeless. The experience is heightened by breathtaking views, especially at sunrise when colorful hot air balloons fill the sky—a sight you won't soon forget. For those who love hiking, Love Valley pairs beautifully with Rose Valley as one of the top trekking spots in the region.
It's hard not to love a place called love valley. I made a solo walk at a time called golden hour. The sun was falling and I was skeptical if this would be the place to talk so close to night. I'm glad I did. It was peaceful. A very flat and easy path to navigate and anyone that appreciates a view and nature walk will feel something special. You can see a city in the distance lit up towards the night and it's very serene. I would bring water and snacks with you if you're a person that likes to take breaks. Good shoes is a must. You'll enjoy the scene. I would rent or take a day trip via a car if you are someone that needs the support.
Deepak S — Google review
🌟🌟🌟🌟 Love Valley – A Dreamlike Place, Full of Emotion and Natural Wonder Love Valley was one of the most magical places I’ve ever been to—and it will forever hold a place in my heart, because it’s where I proposed to the love of my life. The landscape is unlike anywhere else: surreal rock formations, soft evening light, and a quiet sense of peace that makes you feel like time has stopped. We arrived early to catch the sunrise balloons drifting in the sky—a truly unforgettable sight. Seeing the colorful hot air balloons floating silently above the valley adds something out of a fairytale. Later in the day, we watched the sunset, and it felt like the whole sky paused with us in that moment. But, I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5, for one reason: the road leading to the valley is in really poor condition. It’s not paved, it’s dusty, and with the number of tourists visiting in August, it becomes chaotic. They should improve access to such a beautiful and important location. Still, if you’re in Cappadocia—do not miss this place. Whether you're planning a proposal, a romantic walk, or just want to feel the raw beauty of nature, Love Valley is the perfect spot.
Grigorios K — Google review
Love Valley is situated just north of Goreme and can be used to walk between Uchisar and Goreme. You can also combine with visits to Uchisar and Pigeon Valley for a longer loop trail (roughly 11-12km) but best to have hiking map apps to plot your route and manage your overall walking distance as there are many splinter trails and enticing spots to wander around throughout. Love Valley has spectacular landscape and makes for a very nice place to hike through a vegetation rich valley with loads of grape producing plants, trees, shrubs. You will see numerous carved homes and storage rooms in the cliffs and rock formations and nearer to the Goreme end of the trail some of the finest Fairy Chimney rock formations in Cappadocia. These make for incredible photographs when viewed with blue sky conditions in the background. We very much enjoyed our hike through Love Valley. The scenery is very impressive, the trail not particularly difficult although rather long if combining with Pigeon Valley and Uchisar. So prepare with adequate water, snacks, sunscreen, hat and proper footwear if considering the longer 1/2 to 3/4 day hike through both valleys.
Brad — Google review
The first part of the Valley (when you start from the parking near Goreme road and not Uchisar(!)) must be seen through the stone "arrows", then after 2 km towards Uchisar, the Love valley will become The White Valley as the stone phallus will melt in white waves of stone. The main path is like beach sand so be careful what are you wearing in your feet. Cap and water stock are mandatory. No tickets, no parking fees.
Dan C — Google review
Love Valley, together with Rose Valley, is one of the absolute hiking highlights in Cappadocia. From above, you have a fantastic view – although a parking fee is required. This viewpoint is also known as Sunset Point, and early in the morning you can see countless hot air balloons floating over the valley. A truly spectacular sight! We, however, wanted to hike inside the valley itself. At first, this was a bit tricky, since the trails are not well signposted. After some searching, we found the entrance. You simply turn off the main road (more or less by instinct) and drive along a rocky path to reach an improvised parking area in the valley. From there, you can start walking directly. Experiencing the fairy chimneys and the fascinating rock formations up close is absolutely amazing. That’s why my recommendation is: don’t just enjoy the view from above – make sure to go down into the valley and hike. It’s definitely worth it!
Marketa ( — Google review
We visited this valley as part of a tour package arranged by our hotel. It was just okay overall, especially since our hotel already had a very similar view. The area here was a bit cleaner and there were options for horse riding and souvenirs, but nothing particularly unique beyond that.

went here by rental car. Avoided the crowds and buses, it seems. Landscape is super. But you'd probably have to do a hike to get the best views. It's all a bit far from the viewpoint.

Truly a lifetime experience. Excellent, skilful pilot and team, the whole experience was magical. We felt so safe and would 100% recommend Kapadokya Balloons! What a wonderful, glorious way to float into a new day, see night turn to light, the earth turn to see sunrise, and the landing was impeccable - the pilot landed on the trailer ! Pinpoint accuracy, an amazing team creating an amazing time for us all.

Very professional and trustworthy company. Although on the surface it seemed pricey (it seems there are other companies in Goreme offering rides for €45 and the like) as these guys were Rough Guide approved, we decided to go with them and were happy with our decision. The whole team worked like a well-oiled machine and we had a great flight, with a wee soft drink after. The landing was very smooth and though there were around 28 people in our balloon, it did not feel crowded. Fully recommend.

Incredible experience starting carefree pickup, decent snacks, incredible flight and unbelievable landing on the bed of the truck! The pilot and video assistant were very friendly and the pilot made sure to gently spin the balloon around so everyone could see. We had great calm and clear weather and I know there is no guarantee - definitely the experience of a lifetime. Always felt safe and the compartmentalized basket makes the 28 people board not so noticeable - very stable. The celebration at the end was a nice touch! Also did not expect all the people on the ground smiling and waving at us plus photo shoots, wedding ceremonies and more - made the landing even more exciting.

What an amazing and unique experience! The photos and videos do not compare to actually being up in the air! The sky was filled with so many balloons, and it was so beautiful watching the sunrise over the mountains and desert landscape. Our balloon ride was seamless from hotel pick up to landing on the trailer and receiving our flight certificates at the end. Our pilot and his team had mad skills! Truly a remarkable experience I will never forget!

Fantastic hot air balloon ride and service! The staff are super attentive and responsive (thanks, Hulya!), the prices are competitive, and the experience itself was fantastic. The whole operation felt super safe, and the pilot (Cesar) made us feel secure in his hands. Highly recommended! Note that this company owns and operates the balloons, and many "tour operators" and hotels are simply reselling the service for an additional commission. This church has the most bright beautiful frescoes. But photography, alas, is prohibited, and it is dark inside. Reviews say that it takes 10-15 minutes to get to the museum. Don't believe it. We walked uphill, in the heat (it was September 2020), walked and walked, barely got there, for about half an hour for sure. The only plus is that during the pandemic there are no Chinese tourists, and there are few other tourists. But the heat prevented us from enjoying the scenery. Шли мы в гору, по жаре (дело было в сентябре 2020), шли-шли, еле дошли, с полчаса это точно. Единственный плюс, что при пандемии нет китайских туристов, да и других туристов немного. (Translated by Google) Another stop carved into the heart of the rocks, with prayers on its walls: Elmalı Church. This church, thought to have been built in the 11th century, opens up to a completely different world when you enter from its small entrance. One of the most beautiful cross-plan churches in Cappadocia, Elmalı may have taken its name from the figures of angels carrying apples depicted in the frescoes inside or from the apple-patterned motifs that were once inside. 🖌️ Sections from the life of Jesus, miracles and apostles are meticulously depicted on the walls. Although faded over time, these lines still tell a silent story of faith to its visitors. ⸻ “A delicate secret hidden in the heart of a rock, Elmalı Church… How noisy, how big; Just deep. Time stops in its frescoes, You come face to face with a thousand years ago…” ⸻ Getting here takes some effort. You enter through a narrow passage, through a low door, bending low… Just like you humbly pass through the door of faith. And when you step inside, you enter not just a church, but patience, art and tranquility carved into stone. Jodie responded to my inquiry in a travel group on Facebook. I'm an experienced solo traveler who has lived abroad before so this is the first travel agency that I've worked with. I just did not have the bandwidth to do my own research and make my own plans as a new resident to Turkey. I used them three times for trips to Bodrum, Kapadokya, and Istanbul for full trip packages from transport, lodging, and activities. I do wish now that I had made some of the plans over the phone with her though instead of all writing so I could ask more in the moment questions (tour options and other details that would've been helpful to know but I failed to even think to ask about). It was a great first experience nonetheless. It was nice meeting Jodie in person and realizing she's from my favorite Australian state (in spite of what other Aussies think of it). Hopefully I didn't annoy her too much being the chaos agent that I am even when not traveling. THANK YOU AGAIN, JODIE!

We booked the Red and Green mixed tour through the website and I'm really glad we used this company. Prices seem varied across different providers but I felt this one was reasonable as it included all entry fees and lunch. Our group was quite small, with 6 people which was nice as it felt more private. Our guide (Ibrahim I believe) was brilliant, he spoke good English and was very enthusiastic. He gave some interesting insights and was great at answering any questions we had. He gave us around 30-45 minutes free time at each stop and I think if we had wanted a bit more that would have been fine. Lunch was nice, there was a kind of set menu with a choice of two soups and around five main courses. A couple of the stops, at a pottery shop and sweet shop felt a little pressured to buy something but I believe this is standard on most tours. Pick up and drop off at the hotel was included and they also provided water on the trip. I would definitely recommend this company for Tours in Cappadocia.

We had the most amazing time on a green tour with our guide Ali, who was very well versed in the history and geography of the places we visited. He was hospitable and passionate about sharing his love and knowledge. He really took care of everyone on the tour - eg offering water, swapping around the itinerary so we could avoid crowds, offering tidbits. There was also no hard selling involved -while we did visit an onyx shop, it was explicit that we are not obligated to buy and we only spent probably 5-10min there, which we understand to be v rare on such tours. We had such an amazing time that we gave Ali a generous tip which we believed he deserved (the same couldn’t be said abt the other red tour we went on with a separate agency). As fellow travellers, would advise to do thorough research on the agency before booking such tours (esp since they take up almost the full day). We booked the red tour through our hotel (given it was common practice to do so) and really regretted it. Avoid tours that are tourists traps. This tour agency is quite a reputable one and we were glad that at least one of our tours was a good experience.

If I could have one wish, it would be that all Travel Agents were as helpful, friendly and efficient as Jodie and her team at Turkish Heritage Travel. Everything went so smoothly, from the planning stage to being on tour for 21 days. All the things Jodie suggested she was right. Yes we did need a few days break, in the beautiful seaside town of Oledinz, in the middle of touring. The places she suggested we see on the way to Göbeklitepe, added to our experience. Her advice on which segments to do as a private tour to get the most out of our adventure were spot on. All the drivers and tour guides we had were amazing. Also each day Jodie would confirm what was happening the next day. It gave us extra confidence that everything would go as planned and it did. Thank you Jodie and Turkish Heritage Travel you exceeded our expectations.

Yakup is just the best guide ever! We did a Green and Red tour with him, had a detailed plan but he was keen on changing up the schedule so we have more time somewhere or avoid crowds 😎 His stories are like fairytales bringing us back in time to imagine how it all was 🪭 All reccomendations and all the best 💜

Excellent service. Jodie was a master of planning in the short amount of time we had in Cappadocia. Got to see so many wonderful sights. Lots of memories and my camera is full of pics. Wonderful friendly drivers both to and from airport as well as every day on our trip. Guide was excellent and knowledgeable and spoke impeccable English. Would definitely us again!

The best Turkish delight of travel / tour companies in Türkiye ! I’ll try and keep this punchy. You don’t have to look further. These guys get things sorted. Fuss free. Zero hassle. Arrangements made in double quick time. Private transfers were an absolute treat (cost a wee bit, but what a luxury). Drivers were great, always on time, responsible on the road and accommodating. The Tour Guides we had were fantastic. Wonderful hosts and historians, great conversationalist, a sense of humour must be a pre-requisite and felt like friends by the end of the tour. Jodie. What a gem. It’s like she never sleeps, is super responsive and has a solution for almost any challenge. As first time visitors to this magical and mystical land, it cost us a pretty penny for the 19-days we explored Türkiye with Heritage Travel, but we wouldn’t have done it any other way.

I used Turkish Heritage Travel for airport transfer from Nevsehir to Cappadocia. They are very reliable and very helpful. They are kind enough to rebook for next day at last minute without extra cost when my connection flight was delayed & missed the domestic flight. Like mentioned the driver was holding name board and helped with the luggages. I definitely recommend Turkish Heritage Travel for shared airport transfers.

Cappadocia offers a unique experience with its hot air balloon tours, providing breathtaking views of the fairy chimneys and valleys as the balloons rise into the sky during the early morning hours. The tour includes a visit to extraordinary volcanic features and unique cities, making it an unforgettable part of any Cappadocia trip. The hot air balloons are handled by expert controllers and can accommodate around 16 people in one basket, with thorough safety measures explained before takeoff.
We had an amazing tour of Cappadocia thanks to Hados Travel. Our tour guide Utku was very well informed, funny and engaged with us all through the tours. He made sure we enjoyed and stayed safe. Thank you Utku and Hados, you made my sólo trip fun and stress free. I definitely recommend booking with you.

Amazing and unforgettable experience on the Cappadocia balloons. The team were fantastic, arranging transport from our hotel straight to the site, and thereafter transport back to our hotel - this made it a seamless, stress-free experience which was ideal given the balloons leave very early in the morning. This allowed us to have one of the best experiences of our lives. Very thankful to the team.

This has to be on everyone’s bucket list. Arrive at the take off site around 5 a.m. These beautiful balloons are handled by expert controllers. Can hold approximately 16 people in one basket. A lot of safety measures and precautions explained before taking off. It is amazing to see these balloons rise slowly and gracefully up to a height of 1000 feet above sea level. The views of Goreme are spectacular at this height. But when the sun begins to rise form the horizon WOW!!! We soared gently for quite sometime in that. Total flight time was over an hour. We landed in an green empty field close by. The landing was well handled by the team. We received a lovely certificate and some champagne to celebrate our first trip.Professional photographs were available at a nominal price.

Wonderful experience! They flawlessly arranged our trip to Cappadocia along with scoring us tickets for the balloon ride. Tour guides were extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. In short the best service ever from start to end. Thank you for helping us create best memories for a life time!

Nevzat and his crew were amazing, professional and timely. We had amazing fun on our Hot air balloon ride and local tours. On our trip to Konya l, he went out of his way to stop at spots like Caravansarai, which was not a part of the trip. We truly experienced the Turkish hospitality that everyone talks about. We will carry with us his jokes and hospitality.

I couldn’t say enough good things about this company. First of all, the owner of the company Nevzat was extremely responsive and organized absolutely everything for our stay in Cappadocia (from airport transfers, two full day private tours, balloon ride and ultimately our hotel). Suat our guide was extremely knowledgeable, personable and adjusted items on the fly based on our wants / desires. If you are visiting Cappadocia, do not hesitate in using this company and specifically ask for Suat as your English speaking guide.

Görkündere (Rocket) Valley, also known as Ihlara Valley, is a stunning canyon formed by volcanic activity and erosion over hundreds of thousands of years. Stretching about 10 km with a depth of approximately 100 meters, it offers not only natural beauty but also served as a rocky settlement for monastic life from the 4th to 13th centuries.
It was so amazing to look tremendous rocks with those forms 😂 but is so cool how the Earth can be so perfect…. We came from Air open museum and the road was perfect. We come to Turkeye in Nov. today the day was perfect. So sunny!

An easy walk off the main arterial road from Goreme to the Open Air Museum. I anticipate that cafes and stalls will be open during peak tourist season. During our off season visit in March, the walk was nice and peaceful. The classic and magnificent geological structures pepper the walk together with a few cave homes obviously out of reach but with the fading historical print still visible. To get there, walk towards the Little Prince horse riding academy, then follow the path on the left until you see the milestones/ signage for Gorkundere (towards the right).

One of the beautiful valley, walking distance from goreme like 20mins away. This is where people standing at the top of the sunset/sunrise point look down. Now this is the view where you view from ground. Before that you will pass by a horse farm, the view at this valley is spectacular! Took this photo end of January. The road lead to this place is a bit muddy. Sitting there and enjoy the view. Nearby there is one restaurant offer breakfast, but not during the winter.

Rose Valley 2 Trailhead is a charming cafe nestled into a cliff beneath the Church of the Cross, accessible only by hiking. The café boasts a spacious shaded terrace, offering an ideal spot to savor a refreshing pomegranate juice after a warm trek. It's recommended to visit in the afternoon when temperatures are cooler and the rocks emanate a captivating dark pink hue.

There is a man in a juice stall located at the trail head. The man would not let anyone access the trail saying the trail was closed. Most of the trail marker signs in the area had been vandalized and may now point in the wrong direction. Local people have also set up barricades in many locations closing what looks to be the correct, easy trails. I’d recommend exploring another valley.

Pigeon Valley, located near Uchisar town in Cappadocia, is a serene hiking trail offering stunning views of ancient caves and carved pigeon houses. The valley is famous for the thousands of pigeon houses carved into the soft tufa since ancient times, providing a spectacular panoramic view over Cappadocia. Situated between Uchisar and Goreme, this valley is known for its beautiful landscapes and takes its name from the pigeons that inhabit it.
What an enjoyable and beautiful hike through some unique terrain in Cappadocia. Takes about 90 mins to complete so it isn’t too long, however there is a section where you have to use some rope to pass that bit, you can do it easily by sitting on the ground if you are inexperienced. Take water with you! Venture around the path a bit on your way and you’ll get to see some cool cave structures you can go inside (safely).
Aziz A — Google review
We recently spent several days in Cappadocia and walked a trail through Pigeon Valley from Goreme to Uchisar which took around one hour. The trail through the valley is very scenic and moderately challenging at most. There are a few minor ascends, mostly just before arriving at Uchisar and making way up to the village. While in the valley, the main trail takes you pass the tuff topped structures that form into fairy chimneys. There are some fairy chimneys as well, similar to those you spot more frequently in places like Love Valley, Rose Valley and Red Valley which are all fairly close to Goreme as well. Pigeon Valley is known for the pigeon farming that occurred in here centuries past and you will still see notable evidence in that activity in the small carved pigeon homes that you can spot carved into the cliff sides and better formed fairy chimney structures. On the whole, we enjoyed the scenery and simple walking access between Goreme and Uchisar through Pigeon Valley. We were happy to see Pigeon Valley from one of the elevated viewpoints as part of the organised Green Tour with MyTrip Travel agency. Tour guides seem to do a good job explaining the how locals used the pigeon droppings in the past as fertiliser and how people lived in the carved out homes that dot the area landscape in the past.

Pigeon Valley is one of the most scenic and peaceful spots in Cappadocia! The views of the valley are absolutely stunning, with soft rock formations, cave dwellings, and countless pigeon houses carved into the cliffs. It’s a perfect place for a relaxing walk or to take in the beauty of Cappadocia’s landscape. The hiking trail is easy to moderate and offers amazing viewpoints along the way — especially at sunrise or sunset when the valley glows in warm colors. You’ll also find a few local stalls selling juice, souvenirs, and small crafts, adding a nice local touch to the experience. A must-visit for nature lovers and photographers — serene, beautiful, and uniquely Cappadocia!
Nafiz I — Google review
If you drive through the road, you will see the best view and such a mesmerizing view. But one star minus for the high ticket rate just for the same view we see from outside. Its better to capture moments from outside rather than buying expensive tickets… but honestly I hadn’t seen such lovely view anywhere…
Prakriti K — Google review
Unfortunately when we went it was peak tourist hour so you will have to wait for the many tourists to take pictures in order for you to do the same. Our guide really only allowed us a short time to explore as the main attraction was the jewelry store she must earn commission on. Explore this on your own.
Prismeth P — Google review
Pigeon Valley (Güvercinlik Vadisi) is a calm valley where you can hear the wind, the pigeons, and the different rock formations. I went in the morning and it was quite cool, so a jacket is very necessary. It's a place with a very tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. I consider it a must-see before going to Üçhisar.
Pedro D — Google review
Pigeon Valley is a stunning intersection of natural beauty and serenity. The unique rock formations and sweeping landscapes deliver a masterclass in geological artistry. The trail is well-marked, moderately easy, and offers several vantage points for spectacular photos.
Woelly W — Google review
Pigeon Valley is a beautiful and memorable hike in Cappadocia, known for its dramatic rock formations, fairy chimneys, and the historic pigeon houses carved into the cliffs. The trail between Uchisar and Goreme offers incredible views and a peaceful atmosphere, especially in the early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded and cooler. The hike is moderately easy, mostly downhill if you start from Uchisar, but the path can be uneven and poorly marked in some areas, so good footwear and a bit of caution are recommended. While the natural scenery is stunning, there are a few downsides like occasional stray dogs and sections that could be better maintained. Despite that, the overall experience is fantastic and well worth the effort for anyone wanting to explore Cappadocia’s unique landscape on foot.
